Stopped For Lunch

By Katie J |

After running some errands decided to try Tongs Thai for lunch. Very pleased. The restaurant was clean the wait staff friendly and the food was good. Really enjoyed the Cheese Sticks the Thai Bowl and the Lobster Roll.

Thai restaurant

Excellent authentic food. Very good service. Would definitely visit the restaurant again when in San Antonia.

Very Good Dinner!

First time to try Tong's Did a carry out. The egg drop soup was spot on! The Massaman Curry was outstanding. It is a mix of Thai and Indian style curry and is not spicey. Also had the veggie fried rice and it was very good. Very friendly service. Give it a try!

My favorite restaurant

By Rebecca D |

Tongs's is a hidden treasure in Springfield! Tong’s is a Thia restaurant but don’t let that fool you. They serve the best grouper I’ve ever had( and I’ve had a lot). This a locally owned cozy place the kind of place you can have a great dinner and quiet conversation at the same time. Reasonable priced.

Good

Excellent causal Thai food, nice staff and the bubble teas are great! I recommend you get the strawberry short cake my BF got the mango! The satay is good too

Extremely enjoyable

By agworksllc |

The atmosphere is deeply romantic or soft and soothing. I enjoy a pot of hot tea with my appetizer. The menu is sure to have something to your liking. They take hot seriously so please cautious.

Good choice for Thai

By Chipper2012 |

Extensive menu with lots of lunch specials with both Thai and Chinese dishes. I've only been once but I would definitely go back. Parking lot is small, but there is additional parking in the adjacent lot. The Pa-Nang red curry was excellent and the leftovers were great.

Loved this place!

By Flamingojacque |

We had wonderful food and great service. They offer a wide variety of foods! We had deep fried spring rolls, corn/crab soup, and the Thai grilled combo with shrimp and chicken. All were wonderful. Hot green tea was served in case iron pots and cups. We will definitely go back!!

Disappointed

By 501gabriellac |

Looking for some good thia, but ended up with two pea size rocks in the fried spring rolls. The tom yum soup was ok. Had to finish our diner quick because Mosquitos inside restaurant were eating us alive!!! We've been to several thia restaurants and sorry to say we will not be back to this one.

Great lunch specials on a beautiful patio.

By Sofotravels |

A S.A classic and a must try! Please order the cucumber salad you will be a happier person in life! I'm daydreaming about it now. The spring roll and lemon grass chicken were both flavorful and very filling. You can call in your order and just walk in and out if you're in hurry

I do not know why this place is not ranked higher

I have been to San Antonio a couple of times now for work, and every time I make every effort to eat at Tong's Thai at least once. They have wonderful tasting sushi (ranging from simple California rolls to common specialty rolls). All the dishes I have ordered have been delicious and presented nicely. I just had the Thai Basil with chicken, it was amazing. AND as if sushi and thai was not enough, they also serve Bubble Tea... which just makes this place one of my fav places to eat in San Antonio. They have many flavors, and you can mix -n- match. I also do not think it is as pricey as the site suggests. I had bubble tea, and appetizer, and a main course and it came to $25 including tip. If you like Thai, definitely worth the trip out there!

Great food

We have been here about 4 times. We haven’t had anything we did not like. Love their lemon chicken. Their coconut homemade ice cream is to die for!!! Highly recommend this place. The wait staff is off and on but the food is always on.

bland food

By JulieandGeorge2013 |

The ambiance is lovely and the staff are great. However the food is terrible. The Thai spring roll started us off with high hopes it was very good and authentic. When the main courses arrived they were flavorless. The Lad Na had fettucine style noodles not the traditional noodles and was absolutely watery. we will not return

Superb!

By faux8879 |

Went there for lunch-- finally some decent Asian in San Antonio! Soothing outdoor environment with a pond and surrounded with plants. Good service and excellent food. Ordered Panang curry and shrimp fried rice--- 4 star spice as was requested. Thank you for a very good meal!

Friendly Service, Fantastic Food

By Patrick F |

I recently went there with a couple friends, and had a wonderful time. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable, but the food was even better. I love spicy thai food, and Tong's is my new favorite in town!

Great atmosphere. Fairly...

By Justin A |

Great atmosphere. Fairly priced sushi. $50 afforded 2 sushi rolls, 2 crab salads, 1 soup, an appetizer, and 2 glasses of wine to wash it all down with.

Rude and would not place order for downtown hospitals. ..

By hospital78207 |

Very rude. Would not place order for hospital and Refused service without a $55.00 minimal. Truly disappointed.

Many visits 1st review. Tong's has never diappointed regardless of my menu choice. Service missed the mark a few times but I think we all entitled to a bad day sometimes

A review that took 25 years to write....

By Frank |

Let me explain the title; "A review that took 25 years to write!" My previous visit to Tong's Thai was approximately 25 years ago, right around the time it opened. For who knows what reason; It's been that long since my last visit. (I've made up for it in the last 2 weeks; with 2 dinners and 1 lunch) I couldn't tell you why I had never returned in all of those years; but I can happily share why I've gone back repeatedly in the last few weeks. Tong's absolutely ranks among the 3 best Thai restaurants in town. Fresh seafood and other dishes, all presented in an authentic manner; with friendly service are of course the key. The interior of the restaurant feels classy, yet not fussy featuring clean lines and nicely lit spaces. But my favorite part of the restaurant has to be the tropical feeling patio. Tall Banana trees, a koi pond and tasteful decorations make it almost feel like you're no longer in San Antonio. A great spot to have dinner on a rare cool San Antonio evening. A couple of comments for Tong's; consider updating some of the patio furniture (especially as you walk up the steps to the right of the patio), and note a few minor details which can take away from the experience. Things like a ladder and broom leaning against a patio wall, although minor can be distracting from what otherwise could be one of the nicest patios in town. Minor quibbles aside; If you've never visited Tong's, or are on a vacation trip to San Antonio; put it on your list. I know I wont be waiting another 25 years for my next visit; am thinking lunch, today..........

Delicious

By amylagueux |

My friend and I shared the spring rolls and each had a bowl of beef noodle soup. The spring rolls have a distinctive, crunchy, flavorful breading and are delicious wrapped in lettuce. We added lots of onion, cilantro, fresh basil, lime juice, and bean sprouts to the tender beef soup. The bowl was huge - I took half home. Love the eclectic decor of this San Antonio legend!

Take a glass of water to bed with you!

By Trampus01 |

Nice staff but very average food which had us both gasping for water as the dishes were very heavily laden with salt. Nowhere near the standard of our local Thai restaurant and nothing like the food we ate in Thailand itself, the offerings were bland, devoid of any of the subtleties that make Thai food well done, such a great eating experience. Up at 3am dying for more water!

Spice Up Your Evening Here

By QuintanillaSchmidt |

Tong's Thai Restaurant provides quality Thai and Chinese food at reasonable prices. On a recent visit we enjoyed Yam Ta Lay (seafood marinated in lime juice with Thai spices), delicious white spring rolls, and Kang Keo Wan (vegetables in green curry). Specify your desired level of hot pepper when you order. Full strength is not for the fainthearted. The decor is inviting and the service always personable. We have visited Tong's Thai on many occasions and have always been pleased at the quality of the food and the friendliness of the restaurant staff. Order from the Thai menu and you can't go wrong.

Outstanding Thai Flavours!

By John R |

Went here with six friends for dinner and ordered several Thai dishes. We ordered: White Spring Rolls Tom Kha Kai Soup (incredible flavours!) Chicken Pa-Nang Pad Thai and a few other dishes I can't recall Everything we ate was truly amazing, and special mention has to go to the Soup. The prices were reasonable, with most dishes costing $13 - $14. Highly recommended. God Bless

A MUST EAT. Thank you Joe at Sushi bar, great experience. Had the thai king and it was wonderful. Note: Do not be afraid to ask your chef "what is your freshest fish selection".... Had the Yam Ta Lay salad. OMG, big enough for two. Huge scallops, shrimp, calamari pieces, mussels, and fried fish filet w salad. BEST thai salad ever. Great ambiance, met up with a couple of folks for a conversation dinner. Wonderful A MUST VISIT.

Family dinner

By ChuckLoonz |

Great family environment. Vegan/veg friendly! We usually all order different things and share for variety. Appetizers, entrées and teas are great. I prefer hot tea and they have a nice variety. Not fond of tofu, and they even make it taste good! The food is more traditional than Americanized Thai, that gives extra points for me. It reminds me if being in Thailand, just cleaner. As for price, not uber expensive, more than Panda Express. Personally I feel the charge is appropriate for the food. P.S. Send the nay-sayers next door for burgers!

Good stuff

By JPKeene |

Small out of the way place but don't let that fool you. If you like Thai food, this place is a must. Never had a bad dish.

Best Thai Food

By AaronM1975 |

I have visited 5 Thai restaurants since moving here, over a year ago, and this is the best by far. I tend to order the same thing so I will rave over the Panang curry chicken, and the chicken Pad Sew Ew. They are wonderful and if you have a love of spice and adventure order them triple Thai hot. I used to always order Crab Rangoon however on one visit I ordered the house rolls and the are so very good I get them every time now. There Thai iced tea is also very good. It’s amazing that some places can get such a simple thing wrong. They do deliver in their area and have a parking space just for pick up orders.

Great Northern Thai food

By EricBMG |

I have been enjoying Tongs Thai's food for years now and it is the most authentic Thai food I've had. After having to work near Chiang Mai for several months this is my goto place to for a Thai fix. Try the Chiang Mai noodles or the Northern curry.

Thai Food that you will want to eat.

By charleslmims |

We were invited to a birthday celebration, and the Thai food was new to me. The server helped me find an excellent meal that was very nourishing and good. They have a full menu of all types of food. Good disability access inter font. A very nice repurposing of the Facilities. Located on Austin Highway in a newly revitalized area of San Antonio.

Bes Thai Food in San Antonio

By TallyHoHoHo |

I LOVE this place. I drive 40 miles just to eat here. I've come to know the owner David over the last two years. He's done several catered meals for events for me and everytime the food is spectacular. Try the crab rangoons, they are out of this world, delicate, light and delicious. I also love the curry or the original pad thai, but everything on the menu is good. I've never had a bad meal yet.

"Best curry I've ever had"

By theREALmle |

My title is a direct quote from my husband. He ordered the Kang Keo Wan w/chicken. After he ate all the chicken he was scooping up the curry. I ordered a Thai Bowl with fried tofu. It was kind of bland.

One of my favorite Asain places

By Linkon23 |

I love the Pad Thai! Oh, and the bubble tea is amazing. I have to eat dairy-free, so I thought I would never be able to get bubble tea, but they made me some without milk! Yay! The waiter was really nice and very attentive (patient, too, with our indecisiveness). May seem a bit pricey, but the portions are big and you can easily get two meals out of one trip.

The best place for Bubble Tea.

By DrAnju Rahul |

Love their Bubble tea flavors. My all time favorite is the Litchi flavor. Not a great place for Thai food, have been to far better places. The staff is not very friendly especially the lady at the reception counter who never smiles and is too busy to interact! Go in for the chilly Bubble tea for some refreshing summer days!!

Have a little integrity

By TH T |

Tong's has consistently good food, albeit at a somewhat high price. And, while I knew ordering on Mothers' Day carried some risk, I thought the 60 minute delivery estimate reflected that. One hour and 20 minutes later I call. Some confusion, they find and recite my order, and state that the driver is on the way. 30 minutes later my order arrived. I measure a restaurant not just by the food, but also the service, including how they handle mistakes. It's pretty clear that they dropped the ball on my order and either refired or fired for the first time when I called. It's 10 minutes away on a slow day. They lied about what happened and offered no compensation for an order taking 1 hour and 50 minutes.

Delicious

By Tammy B |

We had a variety of menu items and shared, every item was superb for flavor and presentation. Good service, nice decor and atmosphere. A place I chose based on reviews while travelling but I would be a frequent customer if this was local to me.

Great thai for the price

By akihc |

Food and service was great. The ambience really added to the experience. They had good music.... reggae and jazz playing at a Thai place how much more crazy than that can you get.

sushi

Family reunion ...

By Aramis S |

First time visit and we fall in love with the place. The environment is great and the service is A+. Food ... OMG !!! is so so good and fresh. Definitely we are coming back. Amazing Thai food and good Chinese food too.

best Thai we've had in the states

By RLS78 |

My husband and I tried Tong's Thai based on other reviews we'd read. This place did not disappoint! We are very picky, and my husband is from Malaysia, and we like authentic ethnic foods. We had the Tom Yam soup, Pa Nang curry with chicken, and baked fish wrapped in a banana leaf. All three dishes were simply amazing. We also tried the coconut ice cream for desert. It was sweet topped with caramel and peanuts, but did have some crystals and wasn't too smooth. Although we didn't try them, they also have a great drink and sushi selection. We would highly recommend this restaurant.

Delightful

By Daniel H |

Many traditional Thai dishes to choose from, served in a very pleasant, casual setting. Good food, good service, fun atmosphere. Thumbs up!

Fresh and fantastic

By Dana S |

The food is always amazing and the owners are friendly. I especially enjoy the green curry. Watch the spice level though. I love spicy food and I still can't do the "Thai hot."

Fantastic Thai food and sushi

By Oasis320 |

Plus, they have boba tea. All the food is delicious. I've tried soups, sushi, dishes with meat and dishes with tofu. The only thing I've noticed is sometimes they're not as quick even if they aren't busy. Food is worth it though.

EXCELLENT

By Irene g |

Needless to say the food was outstanding. We ate on the outsde patio.Very rustic. Complete with lots of plants and a coi (sp) pond.

Excellent Thai Food and Sushi!!

By GGWD |

We had the Hot Pot Thai soup which was great as well as two rolls (yellow tail and spicy tuna). Both were great. I had a Thai Noodle Dish, my wife had Panang Curry and my son had Green Curry. I thought the Panang was a bit sweet and slightly different than I have had at other locations, but it was still good. The other dishes were great, service was great. I would definitely recommend it.

Great Meal

By headduckd |

Great experience. Had the basil fried rice with chicken; huge order that I had to take home. Spicy, as I requested it. Wife had the cashew chicken that she enjoyed though she would have liked a little more heat to it. Great value, service and atmosphere. Don't let the location next to a mini-mart scare you off. Probably the best Thai in the city.

Great lunch deal

By joshua b |

Really enjoyed, the plates were generous. The outdoor patio is really a nice treat. Service is very prompt. Close to the zoo and I-35.

The Best Thai Restaurant...PERIOD!

By Kenneth P |

If you travel to San Antonio, Tong's Thai Restaurant is a must visit! If you love Thai tea as much as I do, you will have no doubt in your mind that Tong's Thai tea is the absolute best, ever! The staff is exceptionally beautiful and friendly! The sushi chef is second to none! The sushi is delicious! The Thai delicacies are well prepared works of art and are exquisitely tasty!

Voted best Thai in town

By Maps662705 |

The reason is because it is the best! I've eaten here for years, it's my favorite restaurant! The pepper seafood or the chicken larb are great. These people know you, treat you like family. House rolls are a delight. I can't go long without my Tong's fix. Prices are good, rice is always cooked properly. Just good eating. I once took 30 friends there for my birthday, the kitchen just kept bringing great food out. We had a memorable meal. Find this place, treat yourself!

Award-winning Thai

By guitarspeak |

Tongs has actually been featured on the Food network and wins best Thai restaurant most every year. That should probably tell you something. Ive been going for 25 years and never get tired of it. They also have a Sushi bar and bubble teas.

Good Food

By MeghanAnnRose |

I would not consider myself a Thai food expert, as my standard for Thai food is based on two restaurants in West Lafayette Indiana. That being said, I thought Tong's was good. I don't believe they make their own bubble tea and their peanut sauce was very thick, but otherwise I enjoyed the food, ambiance, and the service was great and friendly.

Best Thai in town

By David R |

I've never been disappointed. Everything on the menu is great, just the right level of heat and spice. Good value for the money.

Great quality and so reasonable

By Rita K |

Love love love this place! I travel a lot. When I land anywhere first stop Thai Food. Tong’s is in the all time top ten. Emmanuel gave awesome service .

Not Impressed

By Atomicbart |

One plate out of the three was good... The BBQ Chicken with papya salad was good, the mixed BBQ plate was medicore, and the steamed fish was terrible and had a terrible off aroma. Our appetizer, the crab claws, looked nothing like the picture and was fishy... On the positive side our waiter was very nice, professional, and knowledgeable as was the young man who serviced our table with tea and water.

Good Thai Food in an Interesting Setting

By docwhiteaustin |

About a dozen of our family went on a Sunday evening. Ordered a wide variety of appetizers, soups, and entrees, all of which were very tasty. I was very impressed that we were able to get them to "customize" a soup to omit mushrooms due to my allergy to fungi. I used to always love Tom Yum and other Thai soups before I became allergic to the mushrooms that almost always are included. I really enjoyed it at Tong's, although I cannot now recall the name of the one we had. The fish and seafood items we had were all delicious, and the somewhat "retro" atmosphere enjoyable. Good service and fairly reasonably priced for Thai.

Great Thai

By julptt01 |

My friend's and I wanted Thai and have been wanting to check this place out. We went at lunch time. The place is pretty large on the inside and nicely decorated. We ordered 3 appetizers, white spring rolls which are summer rolls, fried egg rolls and chicken satay. All were good but I felt the white rolls were missing the fresh herbs thus having no flavor. Thank goodness for peanut sauce. I ordered pad Thai and is was very good. My friends ordered Spicy, Pa-Nang and Mongolian. All very flavorful and spicy! Yum!

Good Thai Spot

By Jack H |

Excellent food and atmosphere. I have visited many times and always pleased. Staff is very friendly and they have good service.

Dont do it.

By Jeanne m |

I ordered drucken noodles - medium spice. I love spicy food but always go a level down with a new place. The noodles were so hot my tongue, lips nose and eyes were burning after one bite. I had to throw it out. This was a Door Dash order - when I called to complain - suggest an error in the kitchen they told me to bring it back and it would be remade. I wouldn't have ordered Door Dash if I had a car. Dont do it - not worth it!!

Great Thai food considering where we are

By WBWII |

I have eaten here many times. It is pricey for San Antonio if you order a whole fish. $50.00-$60.00 even by NYC standards is expensive. Other items are more reasonable. Service can be spotty but over all you will be satisfied. It is good food AND YOU CAN TAKE YOUR FAMILY or a business associate. It is not formal by any stretch of the imagination. Enjoy. I keep going back.

Disgustingly filthy

By JettTexas |

A waitress licked a spoon then threw it in the sink then picked it up again to stir bubble tea that she was serving me. Needless to say, I did not take it. I walked out and will NEVER return there again. I'm calling the health department.

Delicious bubble drinks!

By BeckaMG |

Stopped here for a quick lunch before running errands. The bubble drinks were delicious! They offer a variety of unique flavors. The Thai tea was also tasty. I had Thai Pik which was very spicy the way I like it. We also ordered Pad Thai which was just average, and definitely not the best we’ve had. We had the lunch specials which were reasonably priced at $6.99 and $7.99. In my opinion the portions were small, perhaps reflecting the price. The staff was friendly and the service was prompt.

By Kent C |

Good Thai lunch specials, but the Sushi rolls are phenomenal. Personal favorite is the Roll in the Hay. Beautiful presentation, always fresh fish.

Delicious from start to finish

By disgruntledpelican |

YES! This is perfect, through and through. The food is on point, without breaking the bank. $15 will get you classic Thai dishes, packed with flavor. Even the appetizers (spring rolls, and some fried spring rolls) were amazing, and I ate them right up. After a pleasant, delicious meal, where I was really surprised with their selection of boba (bubble) tea. There were tons of flavors, including some local inventions... one called "Thai Grrr" involved mango, papaya, coconut and crushed peanuts - Thailand in a cup! It was the perfect finish to a great meal. Service was outstanding as well.

Day Out With Friends

By Ricardo P |

After a morning of yard work under the hot Texas sun, my friend and I needed a break. Tong's Thai Restaurant provided a well needed escape from the heat. We felt like eating something that was out of the ordinary and that didn't feel like a fast food joint. It's quaint and dim lights created a soothing and relaxing ambience. I tried the Seafood Combination, which was absolutely delicious, and my friend tried Pa-Nang, which turned out to be surprisingly spicy. We were both pleased with the service and the food and it definitely didn't feel like fast food. Although it is about a 20 minute drive from my house, I'll will definitely make the time to visit Tong's in the near future.

Love the Sushi

By Ranchchick |

At this place the Sushi is F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S I live here soi go there a lot. So far it is the best sushi i have had in San Antonio. If you have kids who won't eat sushi or anything else, there is a nice lemon chicken with a great sauce.

excellent thai food

Quite a period piece of architechture which gives it a unique atmosphere. Th menu is varied and the quality is very good. Staff are helpful and friendly. Big problem is lack of parking.

The Absolute Best Thai Food in San Antonio, TX

By Womack |

I have been craving Thai food; it's my favorite. We have eaten Thai food from coast to coast. So my husband took me to Tong's Thai last night; I was not disappointed! It is our first time there; we suffered a bit of a learning curve. They have no menus... lol. Our server was so sweet; pointing out to scan the QR code; even typed in the password to the wifi for me so we could view the menu from the website. My husband and I shared; they had all the favorites I was craving. Tom Kha Kai, Philadelphia Roll (Spicy Mayo Sauce), Spring Rolls, Egg Rolls, & Jasmine Tea. The service was quick; the food was awesome, and we will make this our Thai to go to in San Antonio! They have; Fast delivery; Indoor/Outdoor dining; a Cozy atmosphere; a Large menu; Cheap eats ($50.00 for everything listed above); Great food; Large portions; Romantic atmosphere. Thank you Tong's Thai for a lovely evening.

Hands down one of my favorite places to eat on the Northeast side of San Antonio. Great staff, Amazing sushi bar, Delicious food and Perfectly refreshing Jasmine and Bubba teas. I think I've tried just about every dish on their menu and have never been disappointed. Their lunch specials are your money's worth!

Lovely Thai place in San Antonio.

By Valerie H |

Lovely Thai place in San Antonio. We heard this was the best Thai in San Antonio and our son - recently graduated from Air Force BMT wanted to try it. Even though it was out of the way for us we didn’t mind. It isn’t far from the base and the atmosphere is relaxed and peaceful. The food here is fresh and delicious. We tried our regulars - pad Thai, lemongrass chicken and red curry along with the Honey Pecan dish. All were tasty. Be warned that the dishes are not large. Good for one person but if you plan family style you might need more. We ordered a second pad Thai and ate everything. The pad Thai is not as peanut-y as we are used to but we enjoyed the fresh flavor.

Wonderful Thai food!

By melcav57 |

A wonderful spot for Thai food! We shared the Ban Xeo (Thai Crepe) to begin our evening, and it was excellent! Stir fried shrimp, chicken, bean sprouts, garlic sauce, folded into a crepe. Although listed in the appetizer section of the menu, I could easily make this my entree. Soooo good! I had the Pad Thai for my main course and it did not disappoint. Some of the best Pad Thai I've tasted! My man friend ordered the Combination Lo Mein, and he said it was excellent, as well. He liked it better than my Pad Thai. I didn't get the chance to taste his, since he finished every morsel on his plate! The portions are generous, too. I finished my meal with a Boba Milk Tea, one of my favorites. The atmosphere of Tong's Thai Restaurant is cozy, yet airy, perfect for adults, families, or large groups. The decor is fun, Oriental chic. The service was excellent, provided by our waitress "Kay" (not sure of the spelling of her name)! We will be back! There are so many things to try, and I especially want to have some of their Sushi.

Below Average Thai

By TimFromTampa |

It may be that this is the best Thai in San Antonio....but if you go to any other city in the U.S. you would find that the Thai served here is really below average. 3 of us, all from different states, ordered 3 different entrees and all agreed that the food was just not that great. Not that it was bad....it just wasn't very good.

Favorite Thai in San Antonio

By awall-210 |

I've been here dozens of time and have never had something I didn't like. Love the lunch specials! Lots of food, very reasonable price and entrée comes with soup! I've had the pad Thai and the Thai bowl. One of my daughters loves the beef and broccoli. The Thai tea is amazing! Food arrives pretty fast and I've never had to wait for a table.

A Great Discovery

By HappyPenny |

Tong's Thai is a very pleasant surprise in this drab part of town. I wasn't expecting much, but I enjoyed a lovely lunch here. The interior of the restaurant is nicely decorated and has great ambience. Our waiter was just right - extremely attentive, without hovering over us. And the food was just scrumptious. If you're looking for fresh Thai food in great surroundings, look no further - head for Tong's Thai.

Good taste, good sizes and good value

By John P |

My wife and I stopped in after a travel day and setting up our rental place in San Antonio. It was Sunday and all the suggested places were either closed or too much of a drive. We were pleasantly surprised by the experience. The green curry was great and the portions were much larger than we have grown to expect. Two dishes were enough for the two of us.

Delicious Thai Food

By Panamatraveler76 |

We have passed right by Tong's for years, but decided to stop in today looking for something different. The food was delicious! We order a chicken Sa-tay appetizer which was grilled perfectly and came with a very delicious peanut sauce and a light, flavorful cucumber sauce. We order Pa-nang and a dish they call "Spicy", and they were both delicious. The Pa-nang was delicious pieces of chicken, zucchini and bell pepper in a mildly spicy sauce with peanuts and coconut milk. The atmosphere was nice and our server was very friendly and helpful. The chef even came out of the kitchen to check on us at one point. We would definitely recommend Tong's for anyone looking for good Thai food. We will definitely be back soon!

Worth the 15 minutes from downtown

By Edward78218 |

This is well worth the trip from downtown hotels. It is about 15 minutes in traffic up Broadway to Austin Hwy. The service is very friendly - it is relaxed and welcoming. The atmosphere is really dated and is probably a left over from some previous incarnation of the restaurant. There is plenty of staff. The place is clean and neat. The food is fresh and delicious. The fried spring rolls - wonderful. One order will feed four. The menu is half-Chinese tradition and half Thai dishes.

Best Thai Food in San Antonio!!!!!!!!

By Lux_Traveler |

My wife and I visited this Thai restaurant with a renowned San Antonio local friend of ours and I have to say it is amazing. My family and I traveled to Thailand in 2014 and the food at this restaurant in Old San Antonio is spot on. The atmosphere is very much Thai. If you want authentic then this is your place when in San Antonio, TX. The portions are very large and I say reasonably priced for what you get so if Thai food is what you are craving then give this place a chance to wow you.

Great food nice atmosphere

By thefixerfixer |

The food was really good love the atmosphere the wait staff was extremely helpful and right on the spot price is very reasonable portions extremely large would definitely recommend

we went there for lunch

By mecoh |

for starters we were brought a wonderful potato soup - delicious - a bit sweet -which at first put me off, but the flavors started to meld and the soup had an addictingly wonderful delicate flavor, blending with the potatoes and onion. Wonderful start to an amazing culinary experience. The appitizers of Spring Rolls were nothing that we had ever experienced - very dense and savory. We (four of us) had different main entrees - the sesame chicken was voted the least interesting. The others were excellent with the top one being the "SPICE". Not too spicy -- just amazing flavors. The second runner-up was the Pad Thai - with Chicken in a red curry sauce. Again the sauce was AMAZING! We will return. (We live in Los Angeles, and have a business interest in San Antonio). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Beautiful ambience. On Austin Hwy.

Great Thai Restaurant

By Mariela R |

My daughter loves Thai food so we are always searching for great Thai restaurants. This restaurant is without a doubt one of them. We came a little early since we read that it can get full easily. The service was very good. The food was delicious! I didn’t see what I wanted on the menu but I asked and they made it for me without a problem. The restaurant is very close from the McNay Museum. Enjoy!

Great Service!! Exciting menu !! Just had time for small sample: chicken rice soup and white spring roll, and Thai ice tea--all tasty!

We went back twice!

By 512geraldd |

Between the friendly staff and the great food, we decided to go back a second time! The only restaurant in eight days that had this honour. I ate 2 different meals (a green curry and a panang) and was thrilled with both. No canned sauces here. I had tasted the panang on the first visit as someone else had ordered it, and on the second visit it was ever so slightly different - a good indication that someone is hand making it. The wait staff were friendly, and helpful. Make sure you go next door to the diner for a milkshake when you are done dinner! Gluten free and vegetarians delight! And not just boring stuff - real flavourful food.

Great Thai

By Melissa Y |

We live nearby, so we've been to Tong's Thai several times. The food is great and the staff is very friendly and attentive. I love the green curry so much that I have a hard time ordering something different when we visit. You can call ahead for pick up and they have curb side delivery.

Just like Thailand

By Peter F |

I have been to Thailand a couple of times and Thong's Thai is very close to the real thing. Can highly recommend the Tom Kai Gai and the Satay as appetizer. Excellent service from a very friendly staff.

As close to Thailand as you can get in San Antonio

By neuroshrink |

This is probably the most authentic Thai food you can get in San Antonio... I had white spring rolls and the Northern Curry... presentation was good, food was excellent. Outside seating by the waterfall had great ambiance. Highly recommended. Sushi bar as well. A Chinese menu for people who don't do Thai.

Great atmosphere and autentic thai food

By Amaya_t |

Tong's Thai has become the favorite restaurant for my husband and me! Sushis are good.. favorites... sunrise, rainbow, the nigiris, wonton soup ... squid and octopus salad.... ariels special and so many others... My only suggestion is for parking,,, when it's too crowded is not enough!!!

NOT Americanized Thai food

By KimMiesau |

After having experienced good Thai food in Thailand, I'm always on the lookout for it back in the States. This is a surprisingly good restaurant with a variety of hot dishes and sushi that are very well prepared and taste phenomenal. I bring lots of my Filipina friends here when they are in town and they love it as well. Definitely worth trying. They also do take-out.

Best Thai? Seriously SA...

By Elisha8685 |

I had kind of high hopes for the Pad Thai here after a friend told me it was the best in San Antonio. I will give it to them that the establishment has a lot of character and a unique atmosphere. We ordered the fried spring rolls and chicken Pad Thai. The spring rolls were okay. The first thing I noticed about the Pad Thai was the smell was kind of funky. The taste was not good at all. The noodles tasted like caramel coated candy peanuts. The chicken was greasy and had a very cheap texture. If this is the best Pad Thai in San Antonio I will not eat Pad Thai in San Antonio again.

Amazing food and staff!

By SaPadre |

One of my new favorites. Great staff authentic food and lots of variety. Love the Thai Basil Mussels and if you like spice, ask for it and they do a great job. Service and fast and friendly and yet never rushed. Don't let the outside fool you or the look inside. It is well worth the stop, especially if you like spicey food done with flavor not just heat!

INEDIBLE!!

By Kierney |

I asked for NO SPICE on the Papaya Salad and it so hot I couldn’t swallow the first bite! 🥵Completely ruined! Thai Lucky Sushi has much better dish 🙌 The young man that answered my questions on the phone was very nice though.

Excellent food

Great place to eat excellent Thai food! I'm always on the lookout for good Thai food, was not disappointed!

Good atmosphere, ok food.

By BuckGee |

Descent food with a slight shift toward american taste. Location: Off a busy highway in an older part of town. Crowd: Mixed of young and old. Mostly non-asian. Seating: Indoor, Bar and Outdoor rain forest like atmosphere. Indoor seating is dark but cozy. We did not have to wait for seating on a Sat evening. Service: Excellent with a good staff to customers ratio Parking: 2 small lots but can park on the next business lot Food: Descent. We had papaya salad (lao style) but was not made lao style. The yum wunsen was good but the noodle were slight clump together. The tofu/shrimp basil was disappointing. The tofu was hard and dry. There was only one shrimp! I was still hungry so we order the alaska sushi roll which was ok. We selected this restaurant after reading reviews from other websites. I have concluded that there is not really a good selection of good thai food in san antonio. Overall it was ok but will definitely try other thai restaurants next time.

Great Thai!

By EJD135 |

We've been coming here for over 20 years and it's always on point!! I'm typically not a big fan of Asian food, but always make sure I visit here at least once a month...love their "Thai Grilled Combo"!!

Authentic Thai

By Finn1969 |

My wife and I usually stay away from Thai restaurants because she is from Thailand and they usually aren't very authentic; not Tong Thai! I had the beef noodle soup and she had the chicken Lard Na (gai) and they were both delicious!!! The ambiance was very nice and the people working inside were all Thai and lent to that authentic feel. The prices were very reasonable and the people were so friendly. If you want quality Thai food in San Antonio you must go here...it is that good.

OMG Great

By Michael B |

Been living in San Antonio for 18 months. Struggling to find great Chinese and Thai. Homerun when we found Tong's!!! Had the chicken satay which was perfectly cooked with finger licking great peanut sauce, crispy spring rolls and outrageously great curry dish. Nothing comes close. Trust me, it is fantastic. A must try.

Great food

Always a great meal Food and appetizers wonderful. Good wine list. Will always come back for a good consistent meal

Bad service

By Patrick O |

Good food. Will not be back. Ignored. Had to get up twice to ask for a waiter. Others just walked by.

Very Disappointing

By Tcook8 |

After reading the reviews in TripAdvisor and another site, I went to this restaurant for an order to go. I didn't call ahead and after ordering $38 of food it came in less than five minutes. I ordered spring rolls, soup, and Pad Thai. In that I have eaten Thai food before, I specifically asked that it be mild. It was so hot that I could only eat a very small portion and my parents couldn't eat any. Also, because it came so quickly it couldn't have been made to order! In all the hundreds of reviews I have written I have NEVER given a restaurant a single star. I can't recommended this restaurant at all.

The Best We've Found

By Troy S |

My wife being Thai, she is very picky and since moving here 3 years ago, this is the best Thai food she's had in San Antonio. She enjoyed her food and we will return again.

MMMMMM good!

By Diana H |

This was my second visit to Tong's and I loved it! A bit of an odd location, but the inside and patio are lovely. Try the crispy spring rolls - to die for! We were eating light, but also had a shrimp and pecan dish that was out of this world. Topped the munchies off with Bubble Teas (I tried the cantaloupe and he did the mango - rocked!). I am hooked on those drinks now. Can't wait to go back and try the sushi. The lady at the table next to us kept ooooing and aaaahing over hers and the sushi bar is lovely.

Delicious Thai Food With Caring Customer Service and Dietary Accommodations Welcome

By Our Money Matters |

My first and only experience here so far was for a curb-side order of a customized ginger garlic rice noodle stir-fry with veggies, substituting Shrimp (instead of chicken) and adding egg. Definitely would've been closer to a $10 meal vs. a $20 meal if I stuck to the menu version which comes with chicken, but I was craving shrimp and egg. For the price with the subs/add-ons (including $2 for egg, and a to-go packaging fee) I was really hoping it was going to be worth the upcharges. The man on the phone taking my order was really helpful with it being my first time, kindly answered my questions and made suggestions based on preferences and food sensitivities. I needed to call back after ordering to double check something, and the woman who answered (the owner, I believe) was really warm and helpful and you could tell she wanted to take care of her customers. The curbside experience was flawless. A friendly energetic guy manning his little covered station expediently and getting me the extra utensils and itemized receipt I asked for from inside. He deserved his tip. The parking at the front curbside was tight, so I was thankful there weren't a lot of large vehicles around me when I tried to get back out. First bite once l got back home was absolutely heavenly. They also included a side of a large scoop of white rice, which I wasn't expecting. And the chili sauce they put on the side for me added some pizazz. The shrimp were plump and juicy and overall this was a great, filling food experience and totally satisfied that craving that can only be fixed with a great Thai noodle dish. I haven't been back yet, but based on the customer service, quality of ingredients, and great execution of a to-go meal, I'd happily try more things from their menu. Their building and location looks like a fun place to dine-in as well, as opposed to a strip center or cookie cutter type place.

Business trip

By AdamRosen101 |

Excellent cuisine, service and ambiance for my business dinner (4 guests). Very nice outdoor pavilion for dining. I would recommend and also be sure to ask about spice levels for sensitive dinner guests as one dish came out too spicy for one dinner guest and had to switch. As a side, I tasted the dish and it was great and good spicy for me, however too spicy for my sensitive colleague. I would go back.

Really Good Thai Food in San Antonio ... Who Would have Thunk?!!

By bohste |

We decided to have dinner at Tong's Thai because of the great reviews we read on TripAdvisor, and we weren't disappointed. It a modest, smallesh place that also had outdoor seating. Parking is very limited, so when the place is really crowded it's is probably hard to find a spot. There is a parking attendant there for when those times do come up. My wife ordered the chicken & shrimp pad thai and she said it was very good. I ordered the spicy Seafood combo that had shrimp, squid, scallops and mussels along with thin rice noodles. That dish was outstanding! The service was friendly and competent & the prices were reasonable. This is a real find for those Thai food lovers that are in San Antonio.

So good! Haven't been let done yet.

By fewill |

5th or 6th time here. Service is excellent and very friendly. No complaints with any dishes so far. The different soups are to die for. Try the crispy pork belly and the sushi nachos!

Yum!

Lunch was about $12/entree. It was very very good and reasonably priced. The smoothies are a must get (large size so good for sharing too!)

Best Thai in Town

By Johnny_James82 |

Tong's has a pleasant Southeast Asian atmosphere, a broad selection of Thai and Chinese dishes and a polite knowledgeable staff to complement your evening. I've been there several times and every selection has been delicious. Tonight's selection was Chinese sausage fried rice and boy did it is spot! The portions were generous and flavorful, The prices are a little bit more than other places, but well worth it. It's a nice place for lunch or dinner with friends, a business outing, or a romantic evening. It's on my San Antonio recommended list.

Average Thai in the Midst of Outstanding

By bobemac |

We stopped here early one weekday afternoon. This place is dark and dingy and needs a redo. Our server was friendly but very retiring. The two spring rolls were greasy and cost as much as the entree. The Pad Thai comes with chicken and shrimp with onions, rice noodles, sprouts and chopped peanuts. Tofu can be added as an option. We had one medium spicy version and one mild version and both were tasty. This restaurant is not crowded before noon.

Best soup in town

By BoerneBob |

I like their Special Beef plate a lot, but their egg drop soup is the best in town. My wife likes several things on the menu.

Delightful Anomoly

By Joy S |

So ...my friend and I were hungry for Mediterranean or Chinese ...we live in San Antonio where Mexican food reigns supreme. We ended up on Austin Highway at Tong's Thai which is a mixture of Thai and Chinese with a bit of Japanese (sushi and Saki) combined. What a pleasant surprise! I don't have anything negative to report besides having to choose from an enticing and varied menu selection. We had two appetizers ...chicken satay served with both a peanut sauce and a cucumber-onion mixture ...and cream-cheese-filled fried rice paper wraps that looked like little egg rolls but tasted like rangoon served with a plum dipping sauce. I ordered a spicy Thai chicken with veggies and wide rice noodle dish that was very spicy ...which I love (you can order it non-spicy). Large portion which I still have half of in the fridge. My friend ordered a non-spicy chicken dish with less veggies and really enjoyed it. Service was EXCELLENT (our waitress helped me decipher some of the Thai choices on the menu) ...food was reasonably priced for the portion size and quality. The restaurant had some ambiance and was quite comfortable. I'm looking forward to introducing my husband to this unique cuisine experience in San Antone!

Best fried red snapper from coast 2 coast!

By M S |

Having lived bicoastal, we have had the opportunity to eat at San Francisco & Manhattan's finest restaurants. This, by far, was the best fried red snapper from coast to coast! We couldn't pass up the Texas flair, so we ordered brisket fried rice to go. Took a nibble, & we're looking forward to enjoying it tomorrow! The food temperature was outstanding. The wine list would gladly please any wine snob. We're so thrilled to have found this Thai treasure!

The bubble drink was the only great part

By KarrieMac |

Some of my friends and I decided to go to lunch after hearing how great this restaurant was. We arrived at 11:00. The service was slow from the start. We all ordered bubble drinks right away, then we ordered food. We got water while we waited on our drinks. This was my first time drinking bubble tea, apparently it takes a long time to make. We got appetizers before the bubble drinks arrived. I got the Toma Tofu for an appetizer. The tofu was still very wet. I ordered Pad Thai for my meal that was greasy, flavorless and the noodles had been chopped up. We waited 20 minutes for our bill. We finally left at 12:45. It cost $20 for an avocado bubble drink, soggy tofu and greasy pad thai.

Always exceptional

By Maps662705 |

Lunch with my adult sons. They know my favorite eats. Staff is, as usual, superb, and the food is better. We had a mango and shrimp sushi, 5 star. Then several lunch specials. WOW! They have an orange colored hot sauce that is just perfect. Made me sweat. I love this place. If someone wants to complain that it's not like Thailand then they need to catch a plane. The food and service can't be beat. Try the Pepper Seafood or the Chicken Larb for starters, then you'll be back. Always the best.

Not only Thai food

By SophieCW718 |

Was surprisingly impressed by their food, variety on menu and decor. Their drunken noodle dish had just right amount of spice with an authentic kick. Enjoyed their sushi selections and bubble tea. Lavishly furnished and decorated in Thai Asian style. Outdoor seating looked inviting with the greenery and water fountain. Too bad it was too cold to sit out there.

Great Dining Experience

By Paul L |

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Authentic thai, very fresh, great atmosphere and friendly service. We will be back!

OK

By pkmcallen |

the food was fresh, service quick, but none of the food wowed us at all and there were 6 of us. everything was simply only "ok".

Great place!

By andrew_sa1 |

We really like Thai food and hadn't found a good place in San Antonio before dining at Tong's. We ordered the spring roll as an appetizer and had the pad thai for an entree. The spring roll was very tasty, as was the pad thai. I also had the hot & sour soup and a bubble tea, neither of which are particularly Thai - but both were terrific. They also have some great sushi options, which we didn't try this time around. It's a little pricey, but worth a try!

Love this place!

By Karen |

Love the spicey dishes. Started out with 2 "large" spring rolls. Hot and sour soup. Basil bowl is good. Bubble teas are awesome here. Fav: banana, strawberry, mango, almond

Great food with an outdoor pation

By Diana S |

If you're looking for authentic tasting Thai food, this is IT! I've never been to Thailand (yet) but I've eaten my way through most of the Thai restaurants in San Antonio and have found nothing that compares. The food is fresh and served hot. My favorite, the Thai Bowl is a mix between a noodle dish and a salad with vermicelli, fresh carrots, cilantro, cucumbers bean sprouts, crisp lettuce and juicy charbroiled chicken. The accompanying sauces are delicious if you like to spice it up. I ordered their whole fried red snapper with sweet chili sauce which is enough for two and we thought we had died and gone to heaven. Amazing food, friendly service and moderate prices. Love it!

Best Thai food in San Antonio!

By wanderlustb8 |

Eat here! The atmosphere is perfect, not too casual but not too fancy either. We went back twice in one weekend and tried something different. We were happy with everything! :)

Great Thai choices... interesting sushi!

By Heidihoe85 |

The Pad Se-Ew and Pad Khi Mao is amazing. I would also recommend any of the appetizers that they offer, especially the Sa-Tay and Ban Xeo. If you're a sushi snob, I would steer clear of their Sushi menu. They use jasmine rice which creates a very interesting and not so standard flavor to your raw fish. I tried multiple times to give it a chance but can't really recommend it. It seems odd to me that they cater to Thai, Chinese and Japanense offerings. We really need to teach society the difference between the Asian food cultures!
