Found our new best restaurant in Houston. White tablecloths, charmingly restored home, gracious waiters/hosts totally on the ball, a genuine sommelier, and let me rave about the escargot. Not in a pastry, well-not in the shell either, but in an escargot dish brimming with green sauce. Not the garlicy kind that lingers until morning but delicious and enhancing. The dipping bread: Unlike any I have seen. Real crispy crust and soft center. By the way, anything you order is 'To Die,' but don't use that expression because our European waiter never heard it before and was distressed until enlightened.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Overall cuisine and food creativity, excellent. A must for any occasion, or just simply check it out. It’s worth the experience!

Nice, but a bit stuffy. Probably the best place in Houston to entertain business clients for lunch.

I have experienced a very awkward situation at a hotel today while waiting to be seated for lunch. As it took some minutes before our table was ready and nobody offered us any drinks nor paid any attention to us so we stood up and started looking a little bit around the place. Suddenly, when heading towards the rear of the restaurant, an unknown lady (from the very self confident behavior I assume that it must have been at least an owner, or famous owner) has nervously appeared in front of our faces full of pretense. Our intention was just to take a discrete, glance look at a pool section, without entering the area! We saw people with their swimsuits on there! We just wanted to see how beautiful the pool section was and didn't want to disturb anybody's privacy! Why attack guest for no reason and suspect them of having bad education or manners? Unfortunately, the unfriendly lady, without any courtesy has rudely asked us to move out of the way by pulling nervously the entry chain and by blocking our way through. It mattered nothing to her that we were guests to the restaurant. At this very moment we thought to immediately leave the place, as we were very putt of this lady's aggressive behavior. We honestly have lost our appetites and a pleasure of coming back to this place, what we've planned for weeks ahead. Despite this situation we kept our emotions low and gave it a chance and as always we were very satisfied with the great food and service. Somehow the overall feeling was spoilt though. The lady should learn how to treat guests with a smile and respect!!!!! Even if she is an owner! This place wouldn't be the same without faithful clientele, I have no doubts about.

missed this place in past. historic bldg, wonderful food. excellent place to host a meeting

I checked in just days after the hotel reopened with a bit of trepidation but I didn't have anything to worry about! First, the staff...the staff was wonderful--from Christina and Sabrina, who checked me in, to Dean who brought my breakfast on the patio every morning and stopped to chat about the area, and Connoly, who checked me out and gave me a tour of the second floor of the mansion. Then there's Sergio, the GM, what an incredibly welcoming presence; he greeted my daughter and me in the bar on the first night, in the hall outside my room, on the patio while we drank our coffee, and at checkout to say 'good bye'. To say that he (and everyone else) made me feel welcome is an understatement. The hotel itself is gorgeous. The old mansion sits on the corner of the block and houses a beautiful bar, restaurant, and reception area on the first floor. On the second are several unique suites of rooms, each lovely and welcoming. Exit through the rear of the mansion and you're on a lovely terrace that's a perfect spot for morning coffee, an evening cocktail, or dinner. Cross the terrace, enter the building that houses 'The Residences', and you'll find a number of 'Tower Suites'--modern rooms in cool shades of pale gray and taupe with patios, balconies, large well-appointed bathrooms, and blissfully comfortable beds! My first morning, (again only a few days after the hotel opening), I discovered that the Nespresso coffee maker's cord had been dropped through a discreet hole in the counter next to the bar sink but hadn't been plugged in! the outlet wasn't accessible so I called the front desk and within minutes I had a carafe of hot coffee and you can bet that when I returned that afternoon that Nespresso had been plugged in! The neighborhood that surrounds this hotel is wonderful and is why I chose it. Montrose is a walkable oasis in a driving city. Restaurants, bars, shops and streets that are worth strolling just to look at the wonderful collection of homes--a fascinating mix of craftsmen bungalows and modern houses side-by-side on tree-lined streets. La Colombe d'or is not inexpensive but it is a splurge I plan to invest in each time I return to Houston to visit my daughter.

We had lunch at this charming bistro, celebrating Houston Restaurant Week 2025. The French onion soup was excellent, as was the crispy, roast chicken. The sauce for the chicken, along with the roasted potatoes, were delicious. The dining room is a part of a wonderful historic mansion on Montrose boulevard. The site itself is beautiful, with incredible architectural details. Dining here gives one the feel of being hosted in a cozy but lovely home. If you would like to give it a try, take advantage of Houston Restaurant Week for lunch or dinner. You will not be disappointed. Please note parking is Valet only. But the gentlemen who handle this, our really welcoming!

Can confirm what others have said. Very lovely ambiance, middle of the road food, friendly but sub par service. It’s a setting great for business meals, or enjoying some quieter conversation time with friends. For appetizers, we got the ceviche, crudo, and Caesar salad to share. The former two, very good. The Caesar was a big disappointment. Tiniest whole heads of Romain, the dressing lacked any punchiness. For the mains, I got the papparadelle with butter sauce. It was just ok. For the table we got the asparagus, wild mushrooms, roasted veggies, and polenta to share. The polenta and asparagus were delicious. The mushrooms had zero flavor at all, and the veggies tasted almost blanched, not roasted. The biggest disappointment was the polarizing service. While everyone was extremely kind and friendly, our waiter interrupted us mid conversation at least 6 times during the evening. We were visibly I. The middle of something and he would come by and just hover. The other weird thing that others have noted…folks came by to clear our plate before we were done. I mean it’s one thing to ask first and THEN grab the plate, but to take it, then midair ask if we were done was just odd. Not sure if the ambience is enough to bring me back, but may try again one day if I see the reviews getting better.

Great menu, great service great view. The drive to Saint Paul de Vence is a must. The village has a lot of art galleries and LA Colombe d'Or is the perfect place for lunch.

Looking for a place to celebrate in a homey atmosphere? I had the good fortune to be invited to my nephew's wedding reception here. My sister's & I were the house party & decorated the tables and space for dinner reception (80+). The manager was very accommodating & very patient- many kudos! The place was magical after the wedding. What I wanted to comment on was the food served via buffet style. We were greeted with passed trays of crab puffs, salmon bites, & spring rolls , wine , & champagne. The open bar served the best (not a mix) Margarita you have ever tasted! The menu included a spring salad, Asian mixed vegetables (so good!), poached salmon (my favorite!), grilled chicken, & roast. All were delicious!! Servers were gracious & attentive. So if planning an event & looking for a special place- here it is. P.S. This is a restaurant & boutique hotel. I have had dinner here in the past- fabulous with old world charm.

Don't walk, run. Book a stay at this incredible hotel, property in Houston. This property created and detailed by the Zimmerman's is outstanding. It will put Houston lodging on its' head. The detail, ambiance, food and accomodations were more than we could have anticipated. The design by Rottett Studios was superb. The condos off of Yoakum, by Jen Design Group were enticiing. We will book a room there next. The city of Houston lodging has just been transformed into a work of art. The staff was plentiful and courteous. Our room was spacious, soothing and over the top inviting. We loved all the art work, precision to detail, lighting, fixtures. I could go on and on. Somebody didn't have a budget nor curtailed by some pre-exisiting notion of hotel accomodations. The inner loop city of Montrose will be forever grateful for this fine addition. Proximity to the Museum district is complimented by this statuesque lodging. We will explore all the room options in our future stays.

We had the pleasure of attending a wedding at this unique venue. The food was very good and wait staff was very attentive. The hotel is located in an older home and the architecture is beautiful.

HRW comes to an end and we decided to try Cinq at La Colombe d'Or - a beautique Hotel on Montrose with a 50's style dining room - elegant and classy. For starters 2 of us had the escargot bubbling in rich garlic and parsley butter - delicious. The other had the tasty lobster bisque filled with crab meat. We all decided on the filet mignon with brandy glaze served over purple baby carrots and pearl onions - tender and melted in your mouth. The hot french bread was wonderful. Service was impeccable. One of the dessert options was not available and substituted with a "cheesecake" like offering per the waiter - unflavorful and the texture was unedible. However, the Bread Pudding was terrific - the presentation was artfully done and it came with a scoop of pecan icecream and a poached kiwi - just beautiful. Coffee was delicious too. Fine dining at it's best! Dinner at La Colombe should be on everyone's To Do list! •

Interesting building, nice staff. Food that a child might attempt. For example: I like grilled veggies (think zukes, capsicum...) but was served a charred, yet undercooked selection of veggies including broccoli. If you have ever accidentally let the water run out under steaming broccoli, then you know this is not a veg for the grill. The smell was appalling and the tough, burnt result was inedible. Who is in the kitchen here? The main course was wholly forgetable. I like eating out and easy to please but this was hopeless. I have no clue why this restaurant would rate in the Houston environment. To its credit, however, there was a party of amiable people to-ing and fro-ing the whole evening. Perhaps the real chef was attending to them

Our office staff had our annual Christmas lunch here and it was fabulous. The food, although pricey, was delicious, and the service was impeccable. I would highly recommend it for a special occasion.

We attended a smallish wedding (about 50 guests) at this venue. The venue itself is a beautiful old home with interesting architecture. We were given options for dinner ahead of time - I selected the steak and my husband selected the fish dish. My steak was surprisingly well cooked for a wedding and was actually a nice cut of meat. It was cooked medium rare and had a nice red wine reduction. The side of vegetables were also decent. My husband enjoyed his fish dish and had a large portion - two filets. It's really hard to cook anything decent for a wedding given how many people need to be served at the same time so I give them extra credit as nearly everyone enjoyed the food. It's a little small as a wedding venue and not everyone is necessarily in eyesight of each other given how the house is broken up into rooms but it is a nice option for a smaller wedding. I figure if the food at a wedding was decent the food ordering a la carte in the restaurant setting must be at least as good or better.

Absolutely fabulous. Bold cuisine and outstanding service make for a memorable experience. This is a real find.

Went in on a Saturday night for a 7:15 PM reservation and was a little worried because we were the only people there. What a gem! The food was amazing, the service was impeccable and there was free valet parking. Not sure whey there were no other diners there? I would recommend this place to anyone. Great steaks! The smoked octopus appetizer was amazing also.

I'm just back from valentines lunch with my wife. We both loved the restaurant and hotel. We had a nosey around upstairs and were very impressed by the art and the suites. I highly recommend Restaurant Cinq, it has so much character, very classy and the food is fantastic. Most importantly this place is better value than other high end restaurants in the area. It does have a more limited menu than an ordinary restaurant but what they have is top notch. It's not cheap but worth it. Seriously try this place out before going back to Mark's / DiMarco's etc. nothing against them but Cinq is a better experience.

We stayed here for our anniversary. Lovely room, lovely meal, very intimate hotel. We felt like we were visiting friends in a private estate. It was a wonderful treat.

LCD is one of our very great favorites in Houston. Intimate, quiet, elegant... like stepping back in time - and since it is the restored Fondren Mansion (founder of Exxon) we are talking very special. There are four dining areas, but we prefer the main room, surrounded by original art and dark paneling. The very personable service is special and the menu has been created by one of the finest young Chef's in Houston. The wine list is wonderful, with a full range of wines and prices. You can get a really tasty Red here for around $55! The Bar is wonderful, a great place to meet friends, and the front Library room is another spot to relax with a good drink. The genius behind LCD is Steve Zimmerman, who has run this classic French Intimate hotel (six lovely suites) for more than 30 years, and he knows good food and good wine! They also have a French Chateau grand ballroom attached for your 'little party' of 200 or more! All in all, La Colombe d'Or is one of the finest and most intimate restaurant experiences this side of the South of France! Please do make reservations in advance with Roberto!

LCD is a truly rare and delightful gourmet restaurant and small, intimate boutique hotel - but it is currently closed for extensive upgrading and remodeling, as a multi-million luxury high rise has been built in its backyard! Hopefully to announce a grand re-opening in the Autumn 2019!

Lovely building, always a comfortable place to eat and drink. In May, we had a small group dinner with several round tables in the front dining room. Have attended many events here and the food is always tasty, with reliably good service, even at larger events staged in Le Grand Salon de la Comtesse at the west entrance - you must see the ornate French wood panels carved in 1715.

Houston has great restaurants and so many of them get a lot of press. It has taken us 3 years to get to La Colombe d'Or and we wish we'd found this long ago. Everything about it is superb: remarkable ambience, fantastic food and service, and something very rare in Houston - relative quiet. You can actually have conversations without shouting at each other. We will be returning - don't wait as long as we did!

Dear foodie readers, want to dine in a glitzy, Art Deco at its finest, not to mention charm and historic restaurant...look no further. La colombe D'or is divine, in the heart of Montrose, it has been wining and dining guests for decades....recently remodeled, it still has the same facade of the mansion it was once in 1923. The restaurant is art itself, from the food, decor and of course art all around the hotel. Now to the food, pure mouth watering wonder, go try it! They change their menu seasonally, so some of the items we tried are no longer there, but honestly everything we had was sheer perfection, and we tried a lot...service was phenomenal, and vibe was fun! Book your date for the holidays!

So much better than previous incarnation. Relaxed time on patio with good service. All around great experience, and look forward to visiting again.

We had a dinner for four at 7:30 p.m. on a Friday night. We were the only guests in the restaurant. We asked about that and the waiter said several tables had come and gone to make it to the rodeo, but that it was a slow night. We ordered a Crab Tower as a shared appetizer...really exceptional...full of juicy lump crab meat and a nice size for the four of us to share. A couple of us also got salads and we all had hot, fresh baked bread while we waited for our entrees. The entrees were excellent. My wife had the sea bass and I had the scallops. Both were nicely seared on the outside and moist on the inside and VERY FRESH. We kept wondering how they could have such fresh seafood with so few guests...we still don't know, but we sure did enjoy it. We also shared a desert since we were all quite full...very nice. Even the wine list was reasonable. We ordered a bottle of red Zinfandel for $40 and it was quite good. Bottom line: Excellent food, excellent service, reasonably priced wine, entrees at similar prices to other fine dining restaurants, and we had the whole place to our selves. Can it get any better? I'd hate to see it close due to lack of patronage. It is truly a marvelous place for a romantic dinner or a special occasion, so give it a try before this gem in the middle of town goes away.

The newly revamped historic Houston icon hotel and restaurant was nothing short of perfection. Feeling transported to France the moment you arrive. The exquisite design, art, food and staff are the most exceptional pleasures to our staycation in Houston. I can not wait to return. Thank you for creating a little piece of France in Houston!

My first and probably only visit here. The group was served the same meal, surf and turf. The steak was cooked too much, the vegetables were soggy and limp. The best part of the dish was the lobster. The wine and chocolate moose dessert were very good.

inspired and innovatinve new chef at Cinq. Wonderful new dishes while preserving the classic favorites. All are beautifully presented. Extraordinary wine list. Attentive service.

Great french cuisine, romantic athmosphere, exquisite turtle soup!!! REcommneded

Ed Bodde and staff did an excellent job for daughter's wedding reception. Delicious appetizers and luncheon, attentive staff, lovely venue. They saw to the needs of our guests and helped us plan from a long distance.

This lovely restaurant deserves all its plaudits. The setting whets your appetite and the fantastically friendly but professional welcome reassures you immediately on arrival. The food was superb - only rivalled by the view! What a shame it is now closed until April...
Grand setting, excellent service, very good food
Went here for lunch. They were not too busy, which was OK. This place is grand. It is actually a hotel. The restaurant is CINQ. Very upscale, great food, great service. I did not enjoy my choice but the food was very good. I would have enjoyed a different entrée, but that is not their fault.
