T is for Tops

By RAVLOTS |

Tony's has it all: elegance, find food, excellent service, special memories. Tony's is a place for any occasion, because who wants to go out and have something less than extraordinary? There's nothing I can't recommend, and sometimes the best option is to let Tony or his staff create a dish just for you. Can't wait to be back.

Too expensive for its value

By YN49 |

Food was good - not great. Definitely not worthy the price. Waiters were polite but inefficient. The place is busy, not the romantic atmosphere I was expecting.

Best fine dining in Houston for years!

By Nickssupper |

Tony and his incredible staff continue to amaze with the finest food and service in Houston. Annie is doing a great job with the front of the house and Chef Austin is producing excellent food in the kitchen. We keep trying new spots around town (old ones too), but as yet no competition has emerged. Tony's remains the classic Houston restaurant with the perfect mix of new and innovative cuisine and old fashioned service. Delicious!!

Holiday luncheon

By Troy S |

I suggest reservations, this was a very popular place at noon, but tapered off by 2:00. Great place to have a long and leisurely lunch with friends and clients. Brussel sprouts are fantastic, steaks perfect, and lobster bisque. Worth a stop if you have time and a bit of extra cash.

Excellent Food ~ Service OK ~ Atmosphere Incredible

By NMC_12 |

Pluses: Shrimp appetizer was delicious and my Kobe beef was like butter! Service was great UNTIL a table for 12 was seated behind us ~ unfortunately at that point I has to interrupt the staff for even a second cup of tea. The chocolate soufflé was incredible and while it was a bit pricey, sometimes we get what we pay for in life. Negatives: Service deteriorated when larger table was seated. I would return for special occasions.

As good as they come

By Ronald G |

Went to Tony’s end of September. Been over 15 years since I was there. Use to go to Houston all the time. As good of a meal as I have had any where in the world.. Service was outstanding, ambience was magnificent, food was over the top. Tony was there and very friendly. I will be back very soon. If you are in Houston, that is where you want to go. Prices equal to any fine restaurant. Five Star. What an experience.A must

Disappointed in Service and Food

By KUFBH |

Expectations were high, but not fulfilled in what should have been a culinary experience. The ambience was sterile with tables draped only with cloth with nothing on them. Covid-19 has something to do with this, but it would not prevent at least some flowers. A dress code was not enforced. Service was spotty (had to ask for bread at least three times and explanations of the menu items were not provided or requests followed. The entrees were good, but not awesome. My wife's fish was overcooked. When we left it was raining. We asked if someone could escort at least one of us to the garage, but they said umbrellas were not available (at this high end restaurant?), and they made no attempt to accommodate us. We will not be returning.

Wonderful food, great service.

By dk1995 |

Went with a group of 6 people. We had the salt-encrusted snapper for an appetizer. Great presentation, it comes to the table on fire! Delicious...one of the most amazing dishes I've tasted in quite some time. My entree was poached halibut. It couldn't hold a candle to the snapper. The halibut didn't have the same depth of flavor as the snapper..my fault for ordering poached fish. Brussel sprout side dish was delicious. Great service.

Great, as usual!

By Lynne R |

Service was top-notch! Food was fabulous, dining room was quiet enough to hear your table mates without shouting. Kudos!

Always top notch service, and world class food.

By Jason A |

I have been going to Tony's for well over a decade and every time I go, I am more than pleased with the service and the food. They know what table my wife and I love to sit at, they know how we like our Martinis and always come over to visit for a few moments, treating us like famiglia. I try different restaurants, but when it comes down to it, you cannot go wrong with their Truffled steak. It is divine. I have been on four continents, and eaten everywhere from Paris to San Francisco and myriad spots in between. Because I live in Houston, it is always nice to know we have World class dining, just a short drive from the house.

Best restaurant in Houston.

By Santiago F |

Best restaurant in Houston. The place is very relaxing. The service is first class and the food is delicious. The Perigord with black Truffles and the Pan Seared dover are to die for. For a better experience I recommend sharing ;)

60th Birthday Party for 18

By 53designer |

Food was ineatable. Way to salty. Meat on the burger was raw, bloody Steak on steak salad was raw Roasted artichoke entree was mushy with no taste No one at our end of the table ate lunch Waiter offered to replace food, but we didn’t want the entire table to wait. The only pleasant part were the soufflés

Still at the top of their game!

By artnik |

When a restaurant has been around for a very long time but still makes it to the “Top 10 Best” lists, it’s fair to wonder if that may be based a bit on nostalgia. That is NOT the case with Tony’s -- it maintains its stellar reputation for a very good reason: it is still stellar! The room is vibrant, the food delicious, the service superb (and I mean REALLY good). The wine list goes on forever, but there is something for everyone. We especially loved the Pansoti (butternut squash pasta with a Parmesan puff) and the Snapper Francese. I look forward to the next visit.

Terrible service if you want to waste your money

By Maps59996628966 |

Terrible service even though it was a Thursday night and half the restaurant was empty. Had to get the manager to get service. Steak wasn't anything to rave about and souffle was flat! Not the first time we were here but will be our last

Always a treat!

By Jamie P |

Tony's Restaurant is an upscale dining experience everyone should have on their bucket list, without children. To describe the food in one word, perfection! Tony walks around to each table checking on the guests. Such a nice touch!

Great Experience

By hoben57 |

This visit was a great experience from the moment we arrived with warm greetings and valued customer treatment. The menu selection was diverse and the food was delicious. The duck was tender and savory. They happily changed out the vegetable to asparagus with no fuss. The mac and cheese was very good. The wine list is extensive with many bottles at $75 or less. Our selection from that $75 list was excellent. The raspberry souffle was amazing. The service was attentive, respectful, and perhaps some of the best you'll ever experience. The atmosphere had a quiet elegance where you could carry on a quiet conversation. We had a wonderful singer performing that evening who even took requests. A truly wonderful evening.

I had been this location for many years. It was a unacceptable experience!

By Mei J |

Nice restaurant and had been this location for years. However, I would not visit on special occasion as Valentines Day. When we arrived in the restaurant was over 6 pm , it was not busy yet. Their service was ok and asked for order soon when we got a table. Around 7 pm , we have not finished the dinner yet that someone already put the check on our table then a minute later, a waiter bring a to go box for us said our desserts already for take home. Meaning we have to pay and leave with that box , and enjoying the dessert at home. They explained the reason was they have so many reservations starting 7 pm. We are not happy to pay for by treating like this on that special day and celebration of my husband ‘ birthday!! The manager came over to apologizes but no exceptions. So we pay the price with a gratuity 20% add on . We are so disappointed!!

Forget the Food - Watch Your Car

By Greg D |

New to Houston, I attended a group luncheon at Tony's. While the food and service was below average, I understand it is sometimes difficult to maintain quality when serving large groups. What was harder to swallow, however, was the damage done to my car while in possession of the valet. After leaving Tony's and driving home, I discovered several fresh scrapes on the driver's side front bumper and fender. Since the car had not been out of my possession since being detailed 2 days before, it obviously occurred while moving the car in or out of a parking spot at the restaurant. Upon discovering the damage, I immediately called Tony's and at the manager's and valet's request, I returned to the restaurant that same day with the car. They took pictures, took my contact info and said they would be in touch with me in 2 days. At that point, I foolishly believed they were going to do the right thing, but I had to follow up with them several times during the next 2 weeks just to get a return call. When I finally talked with the restaurant manager, he said the valet service is provided by a separate company, (even though under contract to the restaurant), therefore the restaurant had no responsibility for any damage done by the valet service. When I finally heard from the head of the valet service, he said since there was no video, no witnesses and no other proof, they had no intention of paying for the repairs to my car. His final words were, "Go hire an attorney." Very Expensive Lunch!!!!!

It used to be good

By AUSAGUY007 |

Back in the day when Tony owned it it was great there was Virgos and then there was Tony's the quality was really good then they got bought out by some other company and it's just not the same anymore are there they try to provide the same service and same quality food is just not the same and yes you do have to pay for valet

Can you say white truffle?

By TXTravelMD |

Impeccable service Elegant dining room (no jeans ladies and gents! Take this opportunity to break out your gown and suit and tie!) Fantastic crafted pastas - get a small portion as a starter. The bolognese was better than the carbonara but both were fantastic. I am not a dessert person so the praline soufflé was lost on me..too sweet. The cotton candy looked cute but sticky.

Five star food and service

By IoaMS |

One of the top restaurants in Houston.Gourmet cuisine.Great wine list.Relaxing and professional atmosphere.Ideal for all occasions.Expensive but worth all the money.Although we visit often Tony's never gets old.

Good service small menu

By Flávia P |

The service is for sure 5 stars. Very good and gentle. But the menu itself I have some difficulties. I have been here 3 or 4 times and I always struggle to chose something. It seems to include many options but at end it is not so interesting. The portions are very small also.

Superb Dining

By Love2Travel26x2 |

Dined here with clients - superb experience all the way around. Delicious salad selection, top notch service. Great for a special occasion or formal business lunch.

Service and management were terrible.

By rww16 |

We have eatrn here a couple of times. Food and service has always been great. Last night however, was terrible. We were seated at 8 and received our fist course st 10:30. We will not be back.

Superb

By Bob B |

Had not been to Tony's for twenty years, but was in town for a couple days and went back for a lunch. The restaurant is upscale and the service staff is efficient to the point of being fawning. Our lunch was exceptional and the wine selection was one of the most extensive I have seen. Valet parking is free.

Excellent food and the soufflé is a highlight

By Anver Q |

The food here is of the highest quality using the finest ingredients which results in excellent food. The service is prompt, efficient and most importantly unobtrusive. The staff are well informed about the food they serve and their recommendations are always very good. The highlight to any meal is the soufflé - which should be ordered at the start of the meal. The Orange and chocolate soufflé with Grand Marnier cream is probably the best dessert I have ever had.

Starts and ends with excellence!

By Darthguppy |

A great dinner for Hstn Restaurant Weeks and we will definitely go back for regular menu. No wonder Tony's has been around for over 30 years. Many Hstn restaurants came and went but this one stays. Our starter was delectable, melt-in-your-mouth Foie w berry sauce and sweet creme bearnaise. If you like Foie, order this! The outside of the Foie was caramelized and crunchy contrasting the tenderness inside. But the sauces lifted up the dish to a new level w complex flavour of saltiness, tanginess berry sauce, and sweetness of the creme, which consisted of white chocolate! How creative! If only I could lick the plate! Next dishes were buttery escargots, duck breast w Venetian black rice, and fried snapper filets. All delicious and none was over-cooked or salty. Flavorful Black rice was al dente. The duck skin was flash fried contrasting the rawness inside. Although it had a bit of gristle, which was tough to chew, I cut it off making the meat soft and pleasant. The lightly coated fried snapper wasn't oily, nicely presented, and flaky. We perfectly ended the meal w perfectly made panna cotta and a flourless Chocolate cake. These two had some surprise elements. The panna was coated w an interesting hint of flambé. The beautiful shiny glaze choc cake was actually made of fabulously light mousse. Probably w cream and gelatin similar to Bavarian cream. Oh my! Service was attentive and friendly. Very nice staff. The menus weren't presented until after we finished drinks allowing us to pace ourselves. The room was loud especially in the left and middle of the hall. We sat on the quieter area on the right side w less activities.

Great Choice for New Year's Eve

By BellaTurista |

My boyfriend and I spent New Year's Eve here. We went to the later seating so we would still be around for the dancing and midnight toast. The atmosphere was lovely, and they had the requisite party hats, tiaras and noisemakers. Even though there was a limited menu there were a lot of choices, and we both really enjoyed our meals. The service was very good -- attentive and just the right pace. After dinner we moved to the bar to enjoy the band and the great singer. We had a great time dancing and watching the other dancers. Confetti/streamer bombs even went off at midnight. I would recommend Tony's for New Year's or a non-holiday meal.

Absolutely perfect

By LBHouston11 |

The atmosphere of fall with incredible flowers on the table and throughout as well as the service just added to the amazing food. A special place for very special occasions.

Highly recommend!

Service was very attentive and efficient; the kitchen was very accommodative. A true gem in the neighborhood! Highly recommend!

High-class dining to the MAX!

By Carolina H |

Wow. Just... Wow! If I could give 10 stars, I would! Every single bite made my eyebrows raise from awe - and there's some Botox in there! I'm just going to keep this simple and say this has become one of my new favorite restaurants in Houston. It's like the American/Italian version of Uchi. It ain't cheap, but there's a reason why. Their course menus (5,7,9 available) include such delectable items such as caviar in sturgeon broth and risotto with black AND white truffles - the seasons overlap sometimes! The soufflé is an absolute MUST. You can get any flavor, but the chocolate is a favorite. Presentation is gorgeous. Service is impeccable. Ambiance is very romantic. Definitely a gem in Houston!

High quality service and food

By Alexis B |

Yes, the prices are quite high, but you get what you pay for. I thought the dishes were simple, but perfectly done. I had the tuna tartare and the sea bass options: I couldn't find a fault in both of these dishes. The chocolate soufflé is something I'll never forget, not only because of their gigantic sizes, but also because I wanted more and more! The service is exceptional. This is a fine dining restaurant and deservedly so. We were a big group in the private dining room and we definitely enjoyed ourselves.

top of the list

By Elayne K |

you pull up into the circle driveway and Nancho and his car attendants are smiling and so happy to have you==orchids and cascading water from the windows and pumpkins galore are overflowing at this time of year. The staff is inside waiting to greet you and usually either Tony himself or Donna his gracious wife are also eagerly awaiting with smiles a handshake and a welcome. Tony's is the best==food so delicious and presented in such style whatever you request==their aim is to accommodate you in each and every way possible. We were a table of 4. Ordered 2 Dover Soles and 2 Snapper entrees...scrumptious. Grand Marnier Souffles the ultimate ending. EK

Supposedly the best in Houston

By RichardUpshall |

Well, I have been here once before, years ago. I thought I would review this time. I am sure this place can be special, if you are over 70 and been going there for 30 years. If you are not though and have not, then really you can do much better. We had to wait for Aperitifs, ask for menus, ask to order and were kind of left to our own devices. The food was OK, but not great and certainly not up to the standard of many other restaurants. They had some kind of truffle promotion on and food that we had with it was way over powering with it. My duck was served on burnt skin and was over cooked, I was not actually asked how I wanted it. The tenderloin a friend had was over cooked also. We ploughed on through to the signature dessert which was a white chocolate and raspberry souffle. It was under done, stodgy and far far too sweet...so, all in all at USD 150 per person, try somewhere else before Tonys, plenty of options in this town.

Wonderful dinner with a good friend

My wife and I had dinner with a very good friend from Las Vegas. We all thought the entire meal and evening was fabulous! Everything was wonderful. Excellent food, service and just a memorable evening.

Lunch at Tony's

Great food lovely setting, piano bar in the evening and you can dance between tables. What more could you ask for?

Girls lunch

Tony’s is still the best of the best! I was spoiled by gal pals on my birthday. I excellent food, wine, service! It was perfect.

Perfection!

By MarylandProfessor |

My husband and I went here for my birthday lunch, and it was the perfect choice! It was elegant without being snobby, and the service was extremely helpful but not intrusive. And the food..... FABULOUS.! I loved my pansoti (squash filled pasta), and my husband is still enjoying his center cut filet because even the smaller cut was so plentiful that he brought some leftovers home. Be sure to order a soufflé for dessert when you order your entree; they are fabulous!

The dishes varied from FAIR to EXCELLENT.

By David L |

Had the five course Tasting menu with wine: HAMACHI - Excellent Roasted Melon Consommé, Swordfish Bone Marrow, Poppy Seeds BLUE CRAB GRANTURCO - AVERAGE Harvest Corn, Jerez Vinegar BLACK TRUFFLE and Risotto - EXCELLENT Fantastic POLPO (Octopus) Warm Cypress Lime Tonnato, Samphire Octopus over cooked and tough. SPEARHEAD RANCH COLORADO LAMB - VERY GOOD Washington Watercress, Cured Heirloom Carrots, Rosemarino BLACKBERRY DREAM - DISAPPOINTING Angel Food Cake, Limoncello Cream Thick VERY sweet icing, could not taste the Limoncello at all. The tasting menu feel short for a up scale restaurant and the price. Next time we will stick to the tried and true menu items.

Best ever fettucini

By dinesh s |

The ambience is very industrial with lots of tables and noise. Not what I expected for a top class restaurant. The staff were very friendly, but I felt rushed through my courses, again not usual for a top class restaurant. I looked forward to the black truffle soufle-but it disappointed. It arrived with the bowl listing badly. But no chance of the soufflé toppling over as it was frankly rubbery! Then I had the iceberg and blue cheese salad-Divine. Followed by the best fettucini which was so fresh and crab meat that tasted as though the crab had just been caught. The blood orange sorbet was very cleansing.

Great service. Average food.

By Robert L |

I came here with my wife for a special occasion. Upon walking in, the smells in the restaurant were wonderful. We started with a glass of wine and a cocktail, and then proceeded to our appetizers and entrees, followed by desserts. We very much enjoyed our soufle dessert, but the appetizers and entrees were fine, but not memorable. After the great smells and ambiance, it was a bit of a let down, but we hope to give it another chance some day.

Amazing Choice for Special Occasions

By TroyB69 |

We recently celebrated our 20th anniversary and wanted to go somewhere special to dinner. We selected Houston institution Tony's--and it didn't disappoint. The numerous dining room staff is friendly and well-versed at giving you that "special treatment" of hospitality. You know, the old-school types who would literally offer you the coat off their back if you said you needed it. Very welcoming. The decor is beautiful and the food was delicious. I will say, if you're looking for a great meal and need to get in and out of there in an hour, Tony's isn't the place for you. The service (time between sitting, getting menus, getting food) is a bit slow, but I think they plan it that way. We had more than a few courses, and were there for a relaxing two hours. My wife ordered the osso buco, which was fabulous, and some of the most tasty garlic potatoes I've had. I went for a 5-course tasting menu. And, unlike many restaurants, Tony's has no problem with some of the table doing tasting menu and others ordering off the traditional menu. Two of the real highlights on the tasting menu included the hamachi crudo with osetra caviar and the red prawn raviolo, which sets atop a seared diver scallop. Simply amazing! One other thing: While Tony's is fairly pricey and certainly high end, they offer a great selection of reasonably priced bottles of wine and champagne and are happy to help you with selections.

Amazing!!

By SMS1628 |

I went to this restaurant for a business dinner and I have never felt so pampered at a dinner. The food was EXCELLENT and the service was the BEST!! Everything from the wine to the steak and the souffle was mouth watering. The bread is fresh and warm. An experience you will not want to miss.

Excellent, though expensive

By Ral W |

We stumbled upon Tony's late one evening after a movie. We were wearing jeans & casual shirts -- when we saw the "proper attire required" sign outside, we thought "uh-oh" we are not dressed appropriately. We were welcomed anyway, though, and escorted to the bar. We enjoyed a lovely though very expensive wine, and had wonderful food. I had two appetizers, and my husband had an entree -- all were presented beautifully and tasted superb. We shared a delicious dessert with some flavor pairings that were unusual and fabulous. Toward the end we were the only ones in the bar, so the piano player let us choose our songs. It was a delightful late evening meal!

Disappointed

By astrosfan08 |

Our group of friends went to Tony’s for a small celebration. The service was excellent but the food was disappointing. I guess that I had higher expectations based on reputation for this restaurant. We all had a variety of things from the menu. The Greenberg salad was delicious. I had Sea Bass that was just ok. The organic veggies with it were the best part of the plate. Brussels sprouts side dish were good as well. One in our party had to have the filet sent back as it was tough and not cooked as requested. The second one that came out was much better. No one at the table raved about any of the food and conversation was more about how it was not all that good. Dessert was on a different plane as the praline cheesecake and tuxedo cake were excellent. Definitely shareable sized as well. Expensive restaurant for not so great food

Excellent: Very Elegant

By Casey Lynn |

Tony's is definitely the best restaurant in Houston. Very elegant, classy and worth every penny. The food is excellent and one of a kind. The service is also outstanding and the waiters are very attentive. The chocolate souffle is exceptional for a dessert. It's huge and will definitely fix any chocolate cravings you have. Tony's is very expensive, (over $540.00 dollars for four people, no alcohol, water only) but is very much worth it. I especially appreciated that they did not bombard me to order wine. He asked if we would like a bottle, I said I could not drink and he was perfectly fine with that, unlike other restaurants that I will not name. I would highly recommend Tony's for any occasion.

consistently superior

By Creosote_Jones |

Is there any flaw here? Superior service, delicious food, outstanding presentation, intimacy, elegance....these are what we expect from Tony's, and we always are pleased.

Tony's is Not The Same! and Not Worth the very high cost any more, sadly.

By Hunter T |

The welcome was good, but they had given away the table we were promised. We like to sit by the big kitchen window and watch the cooks. We were offered a nice table, but not the one we requested. No explanation. There was a quick greeting, and water did appear quickly. Quite downhill from then on. First of all, the staff on hand was almost all new. We hardly saw a familiar face, so we were abandoned. It took a 27 minute wait to get a menu, and then - only when I accosted a fast moving waiter and demanded a menu... pretty poor for what was once such a fine restaurant. Neither Tony nor his lovely wife were anywhere to be seen. It was a special dinner for us, a Tuesday evening at 8pm. The room was not totally full, but there were private parties in the Wine Cellar and the west wing... perhaps that took away good staff. The food was acceptable, not superb, the dinner service was very slow, though a new captain did his best to rescue the evening. The tab for 3 was well over $500, and it was simply not worth it. The main dining room is big, bright and beautiful, but the service level was totally unacceptable. The food was OK, but the evening was not worth the very high cost. We went to Arcodoro the next night to try to find something good. It was like a different planet. Warm welcome, constant quiet attention, good table, fine wine and a truly superb filet of Sole, fresh from the UK. Arcodoro gets an A++, sadly, Tony's a C- This was the very worst service we have ever had to endure at Tony's. We do not plan on a return visit any time soon.

One of the top 5 restaurants ive ever ate at.

By Steven H |

just an amazing evening, we had a party and were served drinks best I've ever had, also the food and service was 100% on target. we were served pansoti,di campo salad, prime cut filet mignon, it just melted in your mouth .pot& asparagus, or seared sea bass, with lump crab. all these dishes were perfect to amazing. if you arte paying for this $$$$$. expensive. just a perfect evening.

Top Five

By 1NOLAFAM1 |

What is it with $$$$ restaurants on Trip Advisor? This is absolutely one of the top 5 restaurants in Houston. Everybody knows it. We stumbled in there for a glass of wine and stayed for dinner. They were most gracious and never snooty. The food is reminiscent of the Four Seasons. Dover Sole, etc. They had a shaved black truffle and risotto that was ridiculous. They bring a pile of black truffles to the table and shave decadent amounts of it on your risotto. That is truly memorable. The fish is prepared perfectly. My wife had the one with red wine reduction - oh yea. I had the one with the butter sauce - unforgettable. The service is as good as it gets. If you are looking for fine dining in Houston, this is it. Houstonians consider this to be a special occasion place. It is. Highly recommended.

Houston Icon Doesn't Rest on Laurels

By davemh333 |

The food can be pricey, depending on what you order, and portions can sometimes be a bit smaller than I'd like, but the quality is consistently exceptional. Seafood dishes are fresh and interesting without being overly complex. Service is generally equal to the food. One of the best places for business lunch in Houston.

Such a gracious hostess and wonderful service

By donnavandev |

There is some preface to my story- first I noted that this restaurant was listed for the Houston Restaurant Weeks which proceeds go to the area food bank and then being highly recommended by our hotel my husband and I decided this was the place we should go. I cringed when I saw the "Appropriate attire required" sign because our hotel shuttle dropped us off. We were not dressed up to par ( jeans and boots and nice dress shorts and heels - this is a very upscale dinner jacket and tie place) however we were directed to the hostess (which turned out to be the owners wife) We apologized about our attire and explained that the hotel didn't tell us about the dress code or reservations- she explained that all the tables were booked but we could eat at the bar. She was so incredibly gracious and accommodating. The bar staff was excellent and friendly- and they made our awkward moment more comfortable. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a special evening or occasion (call first, dress up and enjoy the event it is!) I'm sure the rest of the menu was just as wonderful but the staff and owners were what really made this experience wonderful and it seems that is something that can be hard to find these days.

One of Houston's best kept secret

By okidoc808 |

I've been here twice and each time is always an excellent experience. Service is top notch, they are always attentive but never intrusive. Food is just perfect. I had the seared snapper one time and the last I had their special, sea bass. So good to the last bite. The serving is just right you'll have room for their decadent dessert. I highly recommend this place. I'll definitely be back.

Very noisy!

By Aesop |

Expensive restaurant with very good, but not sensational, food. The experience is severely marred by the noise level, which is worsened by the music that is played. Very extensive wine list; many are very expensive, but it is possible to get a decent bottle for $60 or so.

Underwhelming

By Houstonalle4food |

We took advantage of Houston Restaurant Weeks to satisfy our friend's bucket list item and dine at Tony's. Three of us had been before. I was not impressed on my previous visit and was less so this time. Three of us selected from the HRW menu; our friend chose items from the regular menu. I enjoyed the Tuna Crudo, a snapper dish and chocolate cake for dessert. The tuna crude was delicious, the snapper was nicely prepared although a little heavy for my taste and the chocolate cake was good. We enjoyed two good wine selections which were reasonably priced. Overly good, but not great. Service was so-so. For the reputation and prices, I expect to be impressed. Also, when we got our check, it was 3/5 the cost we anticipated. Upon review, we discovered that three charges had been left off bringing the bill from just over $200 to about $365. We alerted one of the wait team. He checked it and thanked us. Somehow that just felt a little empty and ungrateful…and very "un-classy."

Consistently Superb

By Ssaurage |

Greeted beautifully. The place is lovely visually (as always). While selecting our wine, we were fortunate to learn more about the wineries whose products we selected. We received a mini-course on the vineyards that was enlightening and enjoyable (it's one of the characteristics I just love about Tony's). My guest ordered superb Seafood Gumbo while I enjoyed Spring Vegetable brodo, or broth with veggies. Our famous Wyatt Seafood Salads were divine, with considerable steamed, chilled seafood over mesclun with a ginger vinaigrette. Just can't beat Tony's for superb service. Choose for special

Awesome experience

By PaulS15 |

First time in Houston and went to Tony's with family who lived here. Greeting starting with valet was excellent. Seated and had a army of service staff led by Eric that look after our needs. Sommelier suggested an excellent Pinot Noir that accompanied our delicious entrees. Seated directly in front of kitchen which is glassed in and can watch executive chef Kate do her magic. Had to start artichoke salad and was nice and fresh, followed with a pasta with shaved white truffles that we shared -awesome! Had lamb chops which were cooked to perfection but sampled the steak and was very tender. Closing delight was banana foster soufflé. Must have! Overall very good experience

Want to have a blackface party?

By Jason R |

I'll tell you something about Tony's that you never knew did you know that they allow black face parties I worked a party downtown kind of close to someone's house... anyway before preparing for dinner they all Platt passed around black face mask and sat down and got drunk with Obama mask and act like black people I was so sickened by this and Tony's allows this on a regular basis that's just how it runs here in the south

Food was excellent, service was not!

By McNelli |

My husband and I were so looking forward to dinner last night with some dear friends. We arrived before our friends so we enjoyed a cocktail at the bar and the service was very good. It went downhill after this. Once at the table, it took some time to get water and asked about drinks. Then quite a bit of time before we were offered menus. Our food arrived in good time and everyone thoroughly enjoyed each course. No one really paid attention to filling our wine glasses which is not the end of the world but you would expect that at Tonys. Once we finished our bottle we were never offered another one and the empty bottle sat on our table through the duration of our meal and even when they cleared our dinner plates along w a small plate of obviously squeezed limes which were used before we received our meal. The head waiter (or woman who took our order) had terrible timing throughout the evening, often times interrupting conversation. Again, nothing was earth shattering but one would expect more for this caliber of restaurant. There are too many great restaurants in Houston with over the top service to return to Tonys any time in the near future.

An Experience

By Douglas |

Tony's a very upscale Italian, located in a strip Mall, is very, very red! The food is very good, I love the foie gras, the risotto and the fettuccini. There is not a single bad choice on the Carni selections: except the 20 oz. 55 day aged Prime Ribeye, is sliced and I do not like my steak to be served sliced. The wine list, I think frankly is absurd, with 1100 selections, running up to $13,000/bottle. But it's fun to read the book. Desserts are really good, with a heavenly Tuxedo Cake, Italian Cherry Gelato, Banana Pudfing Brûlée and a Praline Cheesecake. The service is really outstanding and I want to tell a story about a visit to Tony's long ago, back in the 80's. It was a business dinner. The night before, we had been to their sister restaurant Anthony's which was white-hot popular at the time. Anyway, soufflés were on offer and we ordered 4. Many cocktails and a couple of bottles of wine later, we were informed that the soufflés had fallen. But, they had put in a fresh batch. Could we get you a complimentary round? So, we ordered the Eau de Vie's, they nodded and brought us something that was undrinkable. After some explaining, they tried again and this time brought the Swedish liquor, Auqavit. Better but no cigar. Now, my Houston cohorts were putting the needle in. You mean to say that the vaunted Tony's has fallen soufflés and $13,000 dollar bottles of wine and you don't know what an Eau de Vie is? Call Anthony's they'll tell you. Well, they did. Then they put a bus boy into a taxi and over to Anthony's to pick up a bottle. Soufflés served, with great pride here came the bottle of Framboise Eau De Vie, not chilled. Eau De Vie, because of hits very high alcohol content. 80 proof, is served chilled. So out came the ice bucket and it was very late now, past midnight. And they said this bottle is on the house, and we're here until you guys are done. No hurry. You do not forget that level of service and dedication. So, go see the gang at Tony's!

HRW - Run Don’t Walk

By ppettyHtown |

Houston Restaurant Week - HRW - started today, August 1. It really runs more than a month. It ends on Labor Day. Walk, don’t run, to Tony’s, one of the best restaurants in Houston - has been for decades, for restaurant week. The pansoti appetizer is a squash pasta item that is amazing! One of the main choices is a short rib and risotto dish that is truly exceptional. Sides can be purchased in addition. The garlic roasted potatoes are some of the most delicious. And of course the desserts! Wow! Great choices, including a chocolate trio choice for HRW dinner. And in these difficult times, your HRW dinner gives a donation to the Houston Food Bank. No downside! Go!

Overpriced, bad service, average food

By k80 |

My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate our promotions and NYE and we were treated so badly. The food was very average (Trulucks, Vic and Anthony's, and The Palm) are way better than this place. The owner and his wife can to each table to chat with a lot of their guests but just said hi to us. The waiter even wrote in his tip like if we couldn't do math. The tables were placed so close to each other too. I came her in 2009 and the experience was amazing so judging by the reviews this place has gone down hill.

Sad decline of a giant

By jmmhouston |

When Tony Vallone stood guard and was an ever-present source of inspiration within his Houston institution, Tony’s restaurant was truly a stand out. This pains me, because I have wonderful memories of family celebrations at Tony’s. My husband proposed to me there 35 years ago when Tony’s was in its previous location on Post Oak. Tony’s restaurant was a Houston institution. The wine list Is incomparable and it is known for impeccable service and cuisine. After debating whether I should leave this review, I decided it was only right to provide my recent experience to anyone preparing to lay out significant coin at this establishment. As we do almost annually when we are in town, we went to celebrate our anniversary. As we sat perusing the menu and enjoying our cocktails, a not insignificant sized roach scampered across the top of our linen-clad table. The staff didn’t offer any assistance at all. Worried that it had run across our flatware or napkins we had to insist that we move to a different table, and that request was met with a snooty harrumph despite many open tables that evening. One of the items offered that night was an off the menu pressed duck with truffles meant for Two people. The cooked duck was finished in a beautiful flourish table-side using an unusual press for the truffle sauce. As an exceedingly rare dish, we were willing to pay the premium in order to share it. We noted that five truffles were added to the sauce and the cooked duck breast was sizable. Once completed the chef removed the entire assembly, duck and all, to the kitchen for slicing and plating. The plates arrived and we were shocked. Not only were there only two truffles provided to each of us but each of us was provided only two small slices of meat. After having seen what had been prepared right in front of our eyes, we knew without a doubt that some of that specialty had found its way to the staff. Finally, It’s customary to top off our meal at Tony’s with one of their specialty desserts: a soufflé. When ours were brought out the tops had been burnt and were partly black on the top. Looking back on it now, we should have demanded something be done to compensate us for the various disappointments from roach to soufflé. Nothing was offered: not our wine, our cocktails, or our dessert. As a gift for my birthday, my adult children bought us a generous gift certificate to, you guessed it, our sentimental favorite: Tony’s. I don’t have the heart to tell them the gift will go to waste.

Great service and a terrific meal

The wait staff was very professional and accommodating. I started with the Italian chicken soup and it was delicious. The Salmon Tower was a work of art that tasted great as well.

Excellence!

Had a recent business dinner here and sat in the back private room surrounded by wine. All food was amazing. The whipped potatoes and soufflé were great. Highly recommend.

Old School and Amazing

By CloCro |

Surprised to see some not so great reviews- this place was absolutely phenomenal. Yes it is OLD SCHOOL but in the best way. Everything feels very classic and elegant. Don't go in expecting modern decor and hipster food, you're getting amazing quality food in a landmark location. Dress up! All the men were wearing suits and ladies had on dresses or skirts. Valet opens your car doors and staff is right there to pull out your chair for you. One places the napkin on your lap and lays out each piece of cutlery. Wine list is endless and they make sure to help you select the perfect glass or bottle. We saw lots of martinis being shaken so we got those as well and they were perfect. Complimentary bread selection, especially the foccacia, was lovely. Pasta appetizer was exactly what we wanted. The duck and steak were off the charts. Yes they are known for their souffles! I believe our waiter said they have over 40 flavors. It was so exciting to see it presented and served, and of course it was delicious. The late Tony's wife Donna said hello to every table and she took great care of us. We told her we loved our meal so much that she had the chef come and talk to us! Best dining experience we have ever had.

Unforgettable

By GabrielGuerraC |

This place is an absolute must in Houston. I have to say I was surprised to find, in the city of steaks and oil&gas, one of the best Italians you can imagine. My wife and I have taken to going there for special occasions when we visit Houston. We go in the off-hours (3-4 pm), so I can't speak about atmosphere or service when it's really full, but it is a nice change to find a top restaurant that will serve you at any time with the same attention to detail. Service is very good and unobtrusive, a good and fairly priced wine list and good cocktails if you're into that. I tend to go directly into wine, but last time found a fantastic selection of high-end Whiskeys/Bourbons. I gave in to temptation and enjoyed a 20 year old Pappy Van Winkle, a rare find. The food is fantastic and worth a trip. The artichoke salad and the burrata with prosciutto and roasted mushroom were a great way to start and my 55 day aged Tagliatta (prime rib eye) was to die for. A good Amarone to go with that made everything perfect. Expensive? Yes, no doubt. Worth it? Every penny.

Good Food.

By TamuMomx2 |

Great food. Very nice dinner. They need to work on the roof. Several people in our group had drips on them from the roof.

Great food, excellent service

By jill a |

The food at Tony's is perfectly prepared, obviously fresh and delicious. The service is outstanding, staff are friendly, attentive, and extremely knowledgeable about the food and the wine. The décor could be updated, but the food and service are so good that you don't really notice.

Everything Perfect, as always

By momsuptoolate |

Every meal was superb- lamb, beef filets, fish- every detail exquisite. The service was impeccable. For a perfect dinner celebration, you can't beat Tony's.

Underwhelmed & Unimpressed

By HoustonFoodAndWine |

My wife & I have a bad (but delicious) habit of turning happy hour into full-fledged, oftentimes extravagant dinners. The same thing happened during our first visit to Tony's the other day. Since I work just 50 yards from the restaurant we were able to go at 4:30p and sit in the bar area for what would amount to a 3+ hour dinner. We ordered food off of the bar menu, off of the regular dinner menu, off of the tasting menu, and off of the crudi menu. We also ordered cocktails, plenty of wine, and some dessert as well. As such, I think I have a pretty good idea of what Tony's has to offer and I must say: I left unimpressed. From the outside looking in it appears as if Tony's is truly the most upscale, high-caliber restaurant Houston has to offer (and in some regards it is). From the presentation of the food to the potential culinary prowess that the team *tries* to implement, to the solid (if not overpriced) wine list, all of the nails seem ready to be hit right on the head. However, after our dinner I left with the unmistakable feeling that the restaurant is still amateur (at least in regards to what they're trying to do and who they're trying to be). A high percentage of the dishes I tasted were incoherent (Mountain River venison tartar) and rather unpleasant to eat (Bering Sea snow crab, namely because of the pearled barley). Ironically some of the simplest dishes were the best, like the corn raviolini and the dill-dusted chicken. It seemed to me that while the chef has a lovely vision for the food program, the execution was just lacking. Food aside, I found the cocktail that I had (Shinjori's Walk) incredibly bland, which is unfortunate because I love Yamazaki. As I mentioned earlier the wine program is good (in terms of selection) but the markup is horrible, which is par for the course. Regarding service and ambiance, we enjoyed the latter (especially when the piano player showed up) but were pretty "meh" about the former. The service staffed seemed a little discombobulated, as we were being helped by a litany of different people with no sense of hospitality, and the overall professionalism of the staff just seemed very mediocre and run-of-the-mill, which is something you don't expect for Houston's preeminent fine dining establishment. Overall I wouldn't spend my time and money on a return visit, but I think my wife loved the corn raviolini so much (she ordered 5 dishes of it) that I won't be able to escape going back at some point. Alas, I now know to have reduced expectations for whenever we do return, and to keep it simple: caviar toast, dill-dusted chicken, and corn raviolini.

This time it was better but still, this place is inconsistent.

By criticalchristopher |

I have been going to Tony's forever. For the most part I would have to say it has always been in the top five Houston fine dining establishments. Though this trip was a 1000% improvement over my previous trip it is still quite inconsistent. The servers continually screw things up and they are don't appear to be too concerned about paying attention to the tables. My food was great but the waiters and staff just weren't attentive enough. Wine glasses weren't kept filled and instead of asking our table of ten if we needed additional drinks and bottles of wine, we had to hunt them down. Like I said, the food was great this time but it's a hell of a lot of money to spend to get half assed service. You judge for yourself.

Grande Dame still Shines

By DNARNA2014 |

With such controversy surrounding Tony's, we had slight trepidation about going. But we were glad to have gone. Tony himself worked the tables. Service impeccable. Somm knew his stuff. I had the 5 course tasting menu (mostly seafood), all excellent. My mum had the octopus with tuna crudi - very unusual and balanced. Crab pasta - very good.

Houston's best???

By AmbassadeurPrincipal |

After rave reviews from Business associates in Houston - the "best in this city", we expected something special. The service was very good but each course was less than disappointing - the fish was actually inedible and was returned to the kitchen missing only a bite. We have heard from regulars that it can be quite variable and maybe we just chose a bad night. Although we sometimes visit Houston for a few days 7 or 8 times in a year, we will not risk a return.

Amazing

My wife and I went here with some friends and fell in love. We have been back several times. Everything from the food to the service is great. I highly recommend the Duck.

Birthday Dinner

By Dell T |

Great food, great service! Loved birthday cotton candy with sparklers! Always a great meal and attention to detail is first class.

Always at the "cutting edge"

By sunnytraveler2 |

I'm not the stereotypical patron but this is my go to when I want the perfect dining experience. Classy professional waiters. Excellent pours and mixes. Always, creative and delightful menu options that leave you contemplating after your decision is made. Solid amnesia and never a regret when you first see and sample your divine plate. Over the four decades and even after long protracted absences, I find myself asking why I had not been back sooner. Tony keeps it all updated yet keeps the comfort of all past gourmand traditions.

Unbelievable...Tony's goes down the tubes

By criticalchristopher |

Well, I never thought I would be writing this type of review on Tony's. I am so deeply saddened to see one of the last of the great Houston restaurants go absolutely down the drain. With the loss of so many high end white tablecloth fine dining establishments over the past two or three decades, Tony's WAS one of the last you could count on and now it's not worth going to. Money has never been an issue when dining at Tony's. The service and quality, though expensive were always what I considered a value for what was received and experienced. Last night I was dumbfounded! We had a table of eleven and here's how it went. A few of us ordered the highly recommended Halibut. One choice was with truffles and the other without. The "highly recommended" truffle halibut at $31.00 (nothing else included) was literally a one inch square!!! No kidding! That's the entrée and it wasn't even great tasting. The halibut without the truffles was also $31.00 and it was smaller than a pack of cigarettes...much smaller...so what, maybe three to four ounces max? The sauce was absolutely tasteless and the fish itself was unseasoned. My Greenburg salad $12.00 +/-. Nothing special here wasn't even flavorful; way too much cucumber and little else. The snapper (a local wonderful fish which is not expensive here on the Gulf Coast) was about the size of a medium persons palm. The taste was very good. One entrée was three ravioli about 3/4" square and 1/8" deep in a cream sauce. It had a wonderful flavor but they were tiny. The only dish that seemed to have quality and fair quantity was the sea-bass. We had dessert soufflés both Amaretto and Chocolate. The Amaretto was perfect but one of the large chocolates had fallen. But...they served it anyway. It was like eating a chocolate cake pudding. So, Tony...you have lost about eleven customers who have eaten in your establishment(s) for decades...true followers whom you have now alienated. I feel so cheated. If one entrée or desert had been less than par that's acceptable but for ten out of eleven to suck? That's telling us we need to find another place to spend our money...and we will. None of us have any money issues so that's not what this is about. It's about being taken advantage of and we will never stand for this. Time to shut her down if you can't do better than this. The only reason you haven't gone to 1 star is that I have such great memories of what Tony's once was.

Fabulous and Elegant All These Years Later

By FredTravelVa |

Fabulous dinner at Tony's. Enjoyed a delicious light but tasty fish dish and went Grand Marnier Souffle for dessert. Fantastic service level -- really conspicuously better than most restaurants on that count. Very thoughtful staff. They go out of their way to make you at home. Never put you down or on airs. Fabulous experience. Look forward to going back soon.

TONY'S IS BACK! EASILY THE FINEST LUXE RESTAURANT IN HOUSTON! AGAIN!

By Hunter T |

We are delighted to report that one of the truly great dining experiences in Houston is now back up to its old levels of excellence. When we last visited, some months ago... service and attention was off. But now it is all back and better. With the help of a new GM with both international and major Houston restaurant experience, Happy Days are here Again! From a warm greeting upon entering by the charming hostess, to a lovely table with an immediate welcome by the Captain... sparking water was offered instantly, and both the menu and Tony's amazing Wine List were presented! Exceptional food offerings from their very talented Chef, plus an attentive waitstaff... We had the filet of Sole, done in a very special way and started with a - Tour of Pate'... that was a total delight... The talented and attentive wine director can and will offer you a full survey of brilliant wines, literally from $50 to $5,000 a bottle! Now that is Depth. So we are returning to Tony's again soon this time... because Tony's is Back and even Better... so very happy to share this excellent good luxe dining news!!

Superb

By loveumissu |

If you are looking for a location with private dining that truly caters to the diner, this is a perfect location. There are two rooms and we were in the French room surrounded by bottles of wine. The room was very beautiful and the perfect size for our group dinner. The food was as flavorful as it was beautiful. The wine was incredible and almost outdone by the unique decanter. The service was impeccable and so appreciated. I'm confident that if I'm called upon to find a location for private dining in Houston, this will be my first choice (but in the Italian room next time).

Lunch at Tony's

By ppettyHtown |

The day after Valentine's, my partner and I treated a friend to lunch at this legendary spot. Even though we were sure the night before was probably hectic, everything was spot on! Each of us had the very reasonably priced two course lunch for a mere $19! The first course pasta dish was divine. The second course short rib on risotto was incredibly rich and delicious as was the chicken mattone. Two of us splurged and added the tuxedo cake which is a chocolate marvel for dessert. And of course the service was top notch as always. If you have been afraid of Tony's due to cost, try the "express" lunch. You will enjoy the beautiful surroundings, delicious cuisine and impeccable service all at a fraction of what you might spend for dinner. One of the best bargains in Houston, hands down for a superlative culinary experience!

So good your NEVER want to go anywhere else

By Brad_Biondo |

I can't say how impressed I was. From the moment you walk in your taken care of. The food is absolutely incredible. I never knew a restaurant could be so much better than any other I ever experienced. This place is a MUST for Special Occasions ..my trip was on our wedding anniversary.

Wonderful Meal for Business or Pleasure!

By traveler3651 |

Tony's offers a wonderful menu that is both inventive and upscale! I had the pleasure of dining in the private wine cellar for a business dinner and the service was both attentive and balanced. The meal was wonderful and the chef does a wonderful job blending classic american dishes but using italian and european flares to spice up the dishes. A memorable meal and a great local place for a special meal or event!

Terrible service , ok food.

By wke18 |

After hearing so many wonderful things about Tony's we decided to try it tonight . Sadly I was not wowed! I thought it was good but it was definitely not fine dining or in my opinion upscale. Yes Tony's has caviar, truffles, a sommelier , a Maître d and several waiters but that doesn't mean a thing. Our night started off with a hostess who could not locate our reservation even though my husband called 30 minutes prior to indicate that we were going to be late. Once located and Upon being seated we were not welcomed to the restaurant. Our waiter did not greet us, pull my chair or push it in, he just asked if we would like a drink. My husband ordered one but I sat for 10 minutes waiting for someone to return to take my drink order.Someone did but it was not our waiter. Once delivered the drink was good. I mentioned to our waiter that I would like to see the wine list so that I could order a glass of red to have with my meal however , I had to ask a second time when my first course arrived because my request was ignored. Around our table hot bread was being delivered so I found myself asking for some as It was not being delivered to our table . When I did finally ask , I was told "sure you can have some but we usually serve it with your dinner" . Wow... !!! A simple yes of course was the only thing that I should have heard. I am glad I asked because during our dinner the gentleman serving the bread never came by our table nor did our waiter to see how our meal was until we were almost finished . For as many waiters that were standing around not one could be bothered to come over to offer any hospitality. I was also surprised to see that when red wine and pasta were spilt on the table by the waiter when serving that it was not covered up , nor was the table swept of crumbs after the first and second courses. I would agree that the food is good and the portions a very healthy size but my husbands black berry crostata desert left little to be desired as it tasted mildly freezer burnt. So much so that he left a sizable portion on his plate. When one of the servers cleared our deserts , I mentioned to him that it was not very pleasing. He showed little regard if any , smiled and went on his way. In a restaurant where most Entrees are over $40 like they are at Tony's I believe the matra d should have made a short visit to our table to offer an apology for such a poor quality desert. Last but not least the waiters should not be so transparent when picking up the credit cards from the tables. This in and of itself is poor dining etiquette and a lack of professionalism. The service at Tony's was terrible and the food quality was just ok.

Best food ever

By Italytravelgirl77382 |

I cannot say anything bad about this restaurant. Everything was divine. The best salmon I've ever eaten.

Great Choice for Anniversary

By GoSooners77 |

We have lived in Houston for nearly two decades but have never splurged for a dinner at Tony's. Tony's has a great reputation but is no longer considered the best in Houston by food writers which reflects the quality of the competition rather than a fall-off in performance at Tony's. We went with the seven course tasting dinner which was a great choice. Every course was unique and excellent and the service was superb. The wait staff was attentive without being intrusive and the timing of the courses was perfect. We have dined in Michelin 3 star restaurants in London, Munich and Paris and couldn't see much that was lacking at Tony's by comparison. In terms of top-end Houston Italian restaurants, some give Da Marco higher marks for food quality than Tony's but we could not see much difference there either. And while some critics don't like the dining room at Tony's we like the generous spacing between tables that you won't find in many places in Houston and certainly not at Da Marco. The only negative was the noise from a table nearby where the two couples seemed to be in a loud laughter competition. Hard to imagine they mistook Tony's for a boisterous comedy club.

High end restaurant & high end flavors.

By Moderndaytravelette |

Elegant dinning, high end prices but the flavors are worth it, even for a vegetarian. Servers are extremely attentive. Sommelier is readily available. The owner even makes an appearance in her high heels so ladies dress to impress.

If you have to read an online review – you shouldn’t go

By LucyLu_Texas |

Tony’s is the ultimate Houston insider restaurant catering to the River Oaks crowd. It really should be a private club. If you are reading this to decide if you should go there – don’t. You are a nobody. True story – Many years ago, I went to Tony’s for a Big Date Night – an extravagance that we really couldn’t afford. But in those days, Tony’s was THE restaurant in Houston. We were seated in a faraway table next to the kitchen door and treated with indifference. I vowed that I would never again go to Tony’s and I haven’t - until this week. Tony’s is participating in Houston Restaurant Weeks this year for the first time and I decided to loosen my ‘never again’ Tony’s ban. We made reservations for a slow Monday night, and where we seated in the less-than-half-full Tony’s? You guessed it – at the table next to the kitchen door. Siberia for nobodys. Some things never change. But, if you decide to brave it…Restaurant is beautiful with fresh flowers, natural light and a big window into the immaculate kitchen. Food is “high Italian”, well-crafted, but portions are not large & ours wasn’t as hot as it should have been. Excellent wine list – mostly Italian. Dessert soufflés are a treat. Service is attentive and professional, but not friendly. And they helpfully add a 20% gratuity onto your tab – automatically. There are other restaurants in Houston with old-school, highly professional service and excellent food (Brennan’s comes to mind) that warmly welcome all clients and treat everyone with grace. You’ll feel better when you splurge on a nice dinner there than we did at Tony’s.

We won't be back!

By Joy |

Two of us had "the tasting menu" The snow crab slivers were so match stick small it was impossible to taste the crab. The lamb chops were nice but my request for mint went unanswered. Truffle nepolean was brought out after an hour's wait. All four of us were given salad sized plates and forks. The truffle was the size of an Andes mint and inedible. The meal took 3 3/4 hours. The food was average at best, the service was inattentive and very very slow. We all thought Tony's should be embarrassed to serve such a meal!

Avoid Ian for the usual great experience.

By D G |

Fabulous as usual. Great food. Great atmosphere. BUT be sure not to have Ian as your waiter. Inattentive, disappears, make silly promises. Can’t believe he is at such a first class place. Will keep going of course but will just make sure not to sit in his area.

Great for a special occasion

By Cara H |

I was a little nervous given some comments but I thought Tony's was a truely great experience. Really attentive service without being stuffy or overbearing. The food was great, from the bread basket (Parmesan crisps were delicious) right through to the chocolate soufflé. I had the fettuccine with soft shell crab as an appetiser it was really tasty and a nice size (not too big that it would spoil your main). At the waiters recommendation I had the veal chop which was to die for ! Lovely petit fours filled the time as we waited for our soufflé. If more than 2 people have the same flavour the soufflé is huge ! And quite a spectacle. The dining room is a little dated colourwise etc and the scene maybe a little retro but the food and service made up for it for us. The cocktails are strong and large so if you don't want to drink too much I would go straight to sharing a bottle of wine. Lovely evening.

Phenomenal. Feels like luxury 80's in NYC.

By Sue C |

Flawless service. It looks like you've walked into Le Cirque in the 80s (that's a good thing)when fine dining was in its heyday. Its hands down the best Italian cuisine in America. All the Presidents come here to eat but regardless it is stellar. Tony is a gem who still calls every reservation. Chef Kate creates a praisable menu. You don't get service like this anymore either. Millenials arent as keen on it because they hate to dress up and can't appreciate the finer points of fine dining. Best place to celebrate an occasion or a romantic night out.

Delightful lunch! Amazing food!

By ppettyHtown |

Last month I treated a dear friend to lunch at Tony’s. As always, the table was adorned with beautiful roses and a pristine white table cloth. I have NEVER been to this venerable institution for lunch or dinner without my table having beautiful flowers! The soup of the day was an incredible mushroom bisque - some of the best I have ever had anywhere. My guest had the steak salad. The beef tenderloin slices were perfectly prepared on top of the di campo salad which includes goat cheese, lovely greens and glazed pecan halves. Tony’s club was very tasty as were the delicious bruschetta that are offered during the meal. We ended by sharing the dreamy tuxedo cake with wonderful chocolate ganache. The delightfully light chocolate cake is layered with both chocolate and vanilla icing. If you have never tried this legendary restaurant, Houston Restaurant week starts August 1st. Try it then and treat yourself!

COTTON CANDY!!!!!

By Judith M |

I went with some of my friends from Houston and we ordered Tony's Tasting Menu, with the wine pairing. It was equisite; great food, great wine, great UNPRETENTIOUS service, with my favorite -- Cotton Candy!!!! It was a sophisticated restaurant, with a sense of humor. I loved it.

Dependable Elegance with Unparalled Sophistication

Team dinner - great service, decent food and upscale

By Stephen Clarke |

Showed up without a reservation and they were great about getting us a table! Enjoyed great starters and entree with wonderful service throughout! It was convenient to where we were staying but not necessarily located in the hub-bub of Houston.

Birthday dinner

By Ann_Robison |

I was so looking forward to this. I had no been before. The Roman Artichoke Salad was excellent. It is so rare to have great artichokes in a restaurant because they are so labor intensive. My partner ordered the fois gras. Although not French, presented well and tasty. He also had the paperdelle bolognese. The suckling pig was not so much. Overcooked or not really suckling. Not sure but it was not good. Avoid! The chocolate souffle was great but they do a large one and serve about a quarter. I wonder what happened to the rest. And not cheap. I think overpriced for the quality.

Tony's - Extraordinaire!

By Sue S |

Having always wanting to try Tony's, we tried it for HRW - - the experience was exceptional. Leisurely fine dining with superb service. We all tried the piave risotto as the appetizer - creamy, melt in your mouth delight - 2 of us had the Roasted duckling in bing cherries, with almond venetian black rice - - the duck was roasted to perfection and one of the best I've had - the black rice was rich, nutty and great with the duck. The other diner had the seared trout with blood orange emulsion - tasty but I liked the duck better. We all had the side of spinach aglio - fresh with sauteed garlic. For dessert I had the chocolate tuxedo cake - a tower of devil's food cake, mascarpone with chocolate mousse, heath crunch bar and a white chocolate swirl on top - a fine blend of flavors and went well with the strong coffee. The others savored the blackberry tart with praline ice cream - We could have lingered longer and enjoy the people watching, artful food delivery, flammable cherries jubilee, huge souffles. Tony's went above and beyond my expectations - - very enjoyable evening.

Piano Bar

By jsthouston |

Had dinner in the bar area this past weekend and enjoyed the music and the food, the food was very good, the gentleman playing the piano was excellent and the service generally quite good. I had dinner with friends during restaurant weeks at Tony's and had been disappointed but not this time.

Absolutely Delicious -- Get anything with Truffles

Wonderful fine dining experience and food -- the best in Houston. Offers many different small plates for tasting with unique flavors and ingredients. I would recommend anything with White Truffle -- especially one that is basically a cheese donut hole with shaved truffle on top. Also if you are celebrating something they will bring out house made cotton candy and a sparkler (something very unique). Souffles there are also a must!!! They are the largest and fluffiest souffles I have eaten in Houston.

It use to be great

By AUSAGUY007 |

It used to be good I don't know what happened I think after they sold the concept they tried to keep up the consistency in the store but compared to Dolores Metropolis this concept is overrated I think for the price point Dolores Metropolis has way better food around the corner then these guys

Still the Best in Houston

By carolmeas |

We have been going to Tony's for years. We travel all over the world and for every place we go, the benchmark is always Tony's. So far we haven't found any restaurant that compares in food and service and beauty. We have also had many Christmas parties there, and everyone is always excited and impressed. Fine dining at its best. You should dress appropriately.

one of the the most posh (and most expensive) meals we've had

By dramady |

We'd expected to pay more here - it's one of the top restaurants in Houston and other reviews have talked of the price, so we went in with that knowledge. Additionally, we chose the 9-course tasting menu. Each course was very elaborately presented and quite delicious. Multiple meat courses, seafood too and we even went for the souffle at the end- how could we not?! What was interesting is that on top of the 9-course menu, we were charged for truffles and the souffle - I'm not sure that was as clearly marked as it could be, but it definitely put this restaurant on our map as the most expensive meal we've ever had. It's definitely worth going to experience it (one can eat there much less expensively going a la carte). It is very posh and very good food. All in all, Oxheart is more affordable and more intimate, but this was definitely an event.

Corporate Mischief

By goodtogo9 |

This is not a complaint about the food or service at Tony's. It's a complaint about the business end. We purchased a $100 gift card to Ciao Bello, another corporate-run restaurant in Houston. When we decided to make reservations to eat there on August 17, we discovered it was shuttered. We phoned Tony's to inquire whether they would honor the gift card. The person who answered said no because each restaurant was a separate operation. Yes, but it's the same owner. I wonder how many others are out the money they pid for Tony's restaurant gift cards?

Superb

By RAVLOTS |

For your special event or regular dinner date, Tony's never fails to impress my wife and me. The servers are perfectly timed, appropriately attentive, and very polite. The food is without measure. It is a feast for the palette and the eyes. When we leave we're still talking about the food, the presentation and the experience. Don't miss an opportunity to treat yourselves and friends to lunch or dinner at Tony's. Thanks, Tony.

The best in Houston

By EscapingHeat |

You want service, excellent food, ambiance? Go to Tony's! I haven't been in awhile and I was impressed. This is probably the best service I have ever had. The valet even got my coat out of my back seat and held it for me to put on. We would have floor managers, servers, staff at our table constantly. Never annoying, but they would read your mind. Excellent. The food was excellent. My wife and I split two entrees and it was just right, perfectly done, out of this world taste! The food is actually not that expensive. But, the wine list is out of this world. Very little under a hundred dollars, lots over a thousand. If you don't drink, its a bargain.

Outstanding Food, Presentation, and Service

By jswflights |

Tony's has outstanding food, presentation of the dishes, and service. It is high end and has a nice wine list. Tony's has an Italian flare to the cuisine, and you will like it. We had lamb, duck, and branzino with wonderful salads and appetizers--wow! Appropriate dress is required.

Wow!!! Exquisite!!

By Martha K |

We had our latest dinner club outing at Tony's this weekend. It was everything I hoped for. The food was delicious, the service was attentive, the piano music was melodious. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a very special occasion.

A special Houston experience.

By Alan L |

My wife and I visit Tony's almost every Friday evening after work, having drinks and dining at the bar. We enjoy Kate's great cuisine combined with Kennady's and Paco's libations and Louie's smooth piano music. Tony's is a great and special place to enjoy for any occasion.

Outstanding Haute Italian

By GabrielGuerraC |

This is one of my favorite Italians anywhere outside of Italy. Delicate and strong flavors combine, great wine list and careful attentive service. The white truffle soufflé is to die for, and everything else just never fails to please. My wife and I go every time we visit Houston, and have lunch or dinner at the bar, which is slightly less formal. Outstanding.

Best Restuarant

By Paparg |

My wife and I had date night. Decided to go to Tony's. It was the best meal I have ever had. Amazing food. We decided to try to visit everyweek!

Great experience like always

By aphillips61 |

We had dinner at Tony's last weekend and once again confirmed it is still the place in Houston. As good as any fine Italian restaurant in the US, food and service were impeccable. You have to try the Parmesan and black truffle souffle and the filet, which has to be the best I have had. Of course make sure you leave room for the desert since the Grand Marnier souffle is still the best! All of this toped with a great wine list and service in a fine setting

Fantastic in every area

By mmt50 |

Service was impeccable, food superb, atmosphere very enjoyable I cannot find a flaw with Tony's Great wine list just be sure you bring your money it is expensive

Memorable food, service and people

By Alwaysonbusiness53 |

We almost did not go based on a few reviews I read on Tony's. I sometimes wonder what people expect. My wife and I went to the restaurant not know what to expect. EVERYONE was friendly, the wine steward was very gracious, the wait staff very attentive and the food could not have been better. Truly a memorable experience. Tony, the owner came around, thanked us for coming in and was genuinely concerned that our meal was good. We had an appetizer of prosciutto and figs, WOW, The pasta second course was extremely good, not available even in NYC. We had Dover Sole and wild salmon for the main dish. The soufflé was out of this world and extra deserts were brought to the table. I say to you folks, it was expensive, with an excellent wine it was $200 a person with the tip. It was worth every penny, it was a nice evening out, no rush, the waiters were all friendly and the head waiter was extremely personable. a definite regular visit when I am in Houston. A great place to take clients or wife or date. Highly recommended.

Disappointing!!

By ElizaKD |

Tony's Rstaurant has been a favorite of mine for years. Went to a dinner in the wine room last week and found it to be dated, dirty and dark. There was so much dust on the wine shelves I was appalled. The food was not up to par nor was the service. The flowers were exquisite. Very disappointed!

My favorite in Houston - the best

By Harris14 |

Perfect for a business or friends lunch. Dinner very good. I eat there for business, social and special occasions. The best in Houston! Not trendy but upscale with a changing menu that gets better. Accommodating for any special diet.

Best food

By Nazy_Aliyeva |

I was in this restaurant several times. Food is always good. I don't like too much spicy food. The food was little spicy as I wanted.

Inexcusable

By Michaela201 |

My parents frequent Tonys and went during restaurant week while my dad was receiving treatment at MD Anderson. My father has a huge scar on his head and hair loss. He had on a nice hat because he was embarrassed. The Russian hostess was extremely rude and asked him to remove it even after my mom explained the situation to her. I would think since they are in the same city as the largest cancer center they could could make exceptions and be more welcoming to these clients. He was trying to have a nice dinner during a terrible time and is now embarrassed to go out to restaurants.

A must!

By SButler |

Excellent food - entire menu. Consistent. Been here twice in various years. Service is top notch! Also had them cater a Summit for us and they delivered over and beyond our expectations. Summit attendees were blown away at the quality of food and display, as well as the professionalism of the staff.

Over the top in attitude and pretentiousness!

By Linda W |

I picked this restaurant to celebrate a birthday AND our son's graduation from Rice University and called weeks before to make a lunch reservation. We were all so looking forward to a great meal but only made it thru the front door. The hostess' snooty look of disdain at my son's sandals (collared shirt and khakis) was followed by a rude statement about a dress code that was never mentioned on the website nor on the phone when I made the reservation OR when I called to confirm. We come from NYC and are happy to follow a requested dress code at the very few remaining restaurants still left that have this policy. Would have been nice to be told when I made the reservation! We travel a lot and have dined at 4 star restaurants around the world but have never been treated so rudely. And by a lowly hostess! The most gracious person at the place was the car park valet who apologized as soon as he heard the problem. This attitude went by the wayside about 35 years ago when the pseudo poshy places folded! All was not lost, though. Our son wisely guided us to Danton's for one of the best seafood meals (and service) we've ever had. The owner here whisked us to a table (sandals and all) and put our dining experience in the very able hands of Mr.Borowski, the manager. A few hours later promises many return trips to Danton's. Worth a flight from NY for this alone. Bypass Toni's and make your way here.

Service very slow and food so-so

By mrpdxs_12 |

Service this time around was not good. It took at least 20 minutes to get our champagne ordered- (much less have it arrive) and we did not receive menus for at least 40 minutes. As for the food-my snapper was fabulous, but other members of my party did not fare as well. Though instructions were NO SALT, the veal chop was extremely salty and a new one had to be prepared. The med rare steak was almost raw. All of the plates of hot food arrived at different times, which left some individuals with hot food going cold until everyone received their plate. Three out of four of the desserts were great. All in all, it was a disappointing showing. So far, two strikes this year. Don't know if I want to go back to see if they get the third.

Impeccable service and food

By Michael G |

Tony's is a classic. It boasts excellent service, a relaxed yet dressy ambience, and food prepared to near perfection. It is also a place with its regulars; the warmth and friendliness of the family still shines through.

Amazing attention to detail

By urj2 |

Went to Tony's for the first time in about 15 yrs and was blown away with the preparation and quality meal. The tastes were truly memorable. It does come with a price tag but well worth the splurge.

Dinner at Tony's, Houston

By Robert B |

We had our annual Christmas dinner at Tony's in Houston tonight. We arrived early and were met by the hostess who took us to our table. We had requested our usual table next to the cooking window as we had done the past five years. Sure enough, there was the table open. But the hostess told us that it was not available. We could accept that normally. The problem was the arrogant, snobby, rude behavior of the hostess when she said we had only requested one "in the area" of the window and there would be no compromise, period. So we had a nice dinner but noticed that much later a group arrived and was seated at that table next to the cooking window. We really believe that they even realized that they were at a prime table since they never ever looked at the cooking activities through the window. Otherwise, the food and service was very good, but, I shall make the rating much lower due to the rude behavior of the hostess.

Restaurant month menu

By jsthouston |

Went with friends to Tony's for the restaurant month menu and have to say I was a bit disappointed. We are not regulars at Tony's, might go to dinner there three time a year other than during restaurant month, but I always anticipate a excellent meal and they generally deliver. I certainly know they can do better than the restaurant month meal we had. It started out well with the appetizers, I had the artichoke salad, but main courses, various fish dishes for all were pretty ordinary. The desert was also a bit disappointing, but perhaps that is because they did not have any of my favorites as an option on the special menu. I will certainly return to Tony's but not for the restaurant month menu, last year's was great but this was just so so.

Great Houston Classic

By Tom F |

Tony's is an iconic Houston Classic. The ambiance is excellent, the food superb and the service is outstanding. It's no wonder that Tony's is a favorite of celebrities who visit Houston.

Very good but way over priced

By TAMAN1951 |

My lobster bisque was excellent and my wife's shrimp appetizer was awesome as well. Her Kobe beef was very good but my ribeye was dry and lacked flavor. Soufflé was superb Service was great Only issue was the price

A real destination

By wsdoyle |

Looks like the Texas pavilion at a 1972 world's fair. Huge, crowds coming and going. Unbelievably friendly staff literally going out of their way to please you. Best to book the cozy bar area with a fireplace and piano. Excellent food with some surprisingly small potion control looking servings. Great Bronzino, pasta with truffles, soufflés, disappointing tuna tartar overdone by a steak-like prep. Fun to see so many multi-generational Texans having a good time.

Another great visit

By LRL55 |

A friend and I recently had lunch here. As always the service was impeccable. Seafood gumbo, tuna and a prime steak salad were our choices. Never disappointed at Tony's. Looking forward to our next visit.

Incredible Takeout!

By ppettyHtown |

We are very fortunate that we live across the street from one of Houston’s most famous and wonderful restaurants! Since we are trying to stay safe during these difficult times, we order from Tony’s special “Family Packs” on occasion. For Thanksgiving, we ordered the chateaubriand meal. It is simply amazing! The beef tenderloin was enough to easily feed four and comes with a quart of bordelaise sauce! It also came with di campo salad which consists of spring mix lettuces, sugared/spicy pecan halves, feta cheese - delicious. There was also a specialty potato dish piped into the serving pan with grilled asparagus and portobello mushrooms along with Roma tomatoes stuffed with bread crumbs. The order even includes Tony’s special sour dough and cranberry bread with butter. Since there are just two of us we had food for days. And the highest, most delicious quality at that. You can order on-line and pick up or have food delivered. There are also special items coming up for Christmas and New Year’s. And of course you can go for inside dining Tuesday through Saturday evenings and lunch Tuesday through Friday. Tony’s continues its tradition of only the first and finest. Indulge yourself. You will not regret it!

Happy Hour!

By ppettyHtown |

We live near Tony’s and on occasion walk over for lunch or dinner. Expensive, yes, but always worth it. Recently we saw an ad for their Happy Hour, Monday through Friday. We tried it on a Thursday and it was delightful! Each of us had a glass of wine from a large “by the glass” selection. The “wow” factor though were the happy hour bites. From 4-6 pm one can have incredible corn raviolini pasta, mini wagyu cheese burgers, shrimp fritters with a delicious dipping sauce, fried chicken bites with dill - just the creative and delicious type of fare Tony’s always serves but at a fraction of the cost. Treat yourself because it really is exceptional, especially at very reasonable prices.

Amazing!

This a wonderful place to celebrate someone's birthday. They have a sommelier who can guide you with the right wine for the evening. Everything on the menu is excellent.

Always a pleasure

By Jamie P |

We just celebrated another family birthday at Tony’s. As usual, the ambiance, the food, the staff, and the service was impeccable!!! Many thanks to Tony and his beautiful bride for always having the best of the best working for their restaurant. Never, ever even a bump in the road at Tony’s. Always a truly lovely evening full of perfect food and a wonderful experience had by all.

one of the best restaurants by far

DO a great job on meats, especially Filet Mignon, soft and it melts in your mouth. Bar drinks outstanding. service excellent. sides also very good. fish or snapper okay. very $$$$$

You should go here, but remember why...

By ChristianLundsson |

So running an Italian, fine-dining venue with 11 courses on the tasting menu and additional 20+ courses on the a'la carté menu makes me wonder if your'e a masochist or somewhat crazy. However, being European (and we love those tasting menus) we're so suprised that the majority of the guests order a classic 3 course meal. The reason is simple, the 3 course is most likely fantastic. But... when you do like us, take the tasting menu, selects the dishes carefully (so you'll get them all) and swap plats half way through you realize the breadth of the talent of Kate McLean, the exec. chef running the place. One hour after, I still struggle to pick out my favorite, or even pick out the dish that we could have just not had. Her talent and precision for taste and composition is not to be underestimated. Everything from "classic European discrete and cautious (!) dishes like the swordfish or the pasta or more flamboyant perky ones like the octopus or the papardelle. Each course did get an excellent wine pairing. So an excellent evening, good and prompt service. This friendly Italian atmosphere that we like. So why not a higher rating from my side? Well, compared to the best restaurants in the world (Per Se, Noma, French Laundry, Fat duck etc.) there is a distance to go. But Kate can and will most like be awarded with stars and high ranking San pellegrino listings.

Birthday lunch

By ppettyHtown |

We took our teenage granddaughter to the legendary Tony’s for her 19th birthday lunch. What a treat! The food was fantastic: wild salmon, organic hen with truffle, and seafood fettuccine. But no pun intended, the icing on the cake was the pink cotton candy with a birthday sparkler on a plate with Happy Birthday and her name written in chocolate that was delivered with the wonderful homemade gelato for dessert. We noticed several other lunch time diners also had birthday cotton candy. What an incredible touch! Alison Cook of the Houston Chronicle put Tony’s at #5 of her top 100 restaurants for 2019. Why it doesn’t register higher on Trip Advisor is a mystery because it is, and always has been, that good. Treat yourself!

Food great, Long Meal :(, bad table location

By Mark H |

The food was great, huge variety, very pricey. Dinner took 3 hours about a third longer than expected. With our table location in the corner could not hear other people at the table and had to yell to be heard. They need to add more sound deadening features. Wait staff chose to reach in front of me every time they served the person sitting next to me due to not wanting to walk around and tables to close so no room to get behind me. I don't care for ordering an expensive steak then having to order ala cart (family style) all my sides.

GOOD FOOD AND THAT'S IT

By Omar B |

1) Good food, no doubt; 2) I was wearing short pans and they did not let me sit in the main saloon. while they do not tell you and it is not advertised anywhere, I asked why they sat us in the bar area. That is the reason. Not very nice; 3) Charged us 20% gratuity for a party of 3. A total rip off. When asked, they said that it was because we ordered the HRW menu. More of a rip off. 4) Valet parking charges $5. So with the expensive pricing in food and drinks this place has, can't they afford the parking for their customers?. I wondered. Not coming back ever.

Outstanding meal

By Harry P |

Went for our anniversary. Ambience beautiful, service perfect, and food delicious. The owner visited with us. The food presentation beautiful.

New Years Eve-Amazing Dinner

By Mark H |

We had a group of 18 experience Tony's for the first time on NY Eve and it was incredible. The service was outstanding and the menu had an unbelievable number of great choices that were delicious. We will be back for certain!!

Old school charm and fine dining

By Peter M |

One of the only truly elegant places to dine in Houston. Very fine professional service, excellent kitchen and wine selection and a truly beautiful dining room, bar and lounge.A great restaurant for special occasion, business meeting or romantic dinner. I have never been disappointed here.

Urbane...expensive...soufflé

By GoCrows123 |

Enjoyed dinners in the wine library and main dining room. Group dinner in wine library was a fun spot and the meal was superb. Private dinner in the main dining room went with the nine courses - most delicious, a couple a bit of a miss but a fun albeit expensive and unplanned evening. Bar for pre-dinner drinks is a relaxed way to start the evening.

Good service but way over price

By Monica9080 |

Went with another couple to celebrate New Year Eve. Knew $95.00/pp set menu. Expect the high price but didn't expect drinks to be outrageously high. $12.00 for 3.5 oz moscotti. $14.00 for a Long Island ice tea. I had a 55-day aged rib eye steak. Tasted okay but one piece had strong taste. Not too pleasant. Sampler dessert just okay level. Total bill with tip was $308.00. 😒

Great all round!

By Graham H |

We were there on business for the holidays. However, the food, ambience and service were first rate. Starting with salad, I had snapper for main course, and soufflé for desert. The red wine was just perfect, and champagne to start. What a great evening - sophisticated but not stuffy; tasteful but not conservative. A really nice combination, and very satisfying. We shall be back!

Perfect experience

By junem22 |

Beautiful upscale restaurant, excellent menu selections, also some reasonably priced wines. We celebrated my daughter's birthday with friends; we like the whole experience. It's our first trip to Tony's since they redecorated; the place is beautiful; we will be returning.

An elegant tradition in Houston, with excellent food and service

By Gabriel H |

Tony's has served Houston for more than 50 years and has remained consistently among the top 10 restaurants in town. The restaurant is tastefully and elegantly furnished; the tables are separated from each other to provide diners with privacy. Service is polite, polished, effective and efficient, without being in your face. The food is consistently excellent Italian food with many International twists. You don't go to Tony's for the latest fad in the culinary world, nor necessarily for incredibly creative "Nouvelle cuisine". You go to have the outstanding and established fine dishes of Italian cuisine that have stood the test of time. You will not be disappointed. The wine list is outstanding and extensive and the wine service, sophisticated. Be prepared for a steep tab.

Very disappointing experience

By priluc |

I took a friend there for her Birthday & our reservations were at 6pm. Initially the service was good & helpful, but as soon as the restaurant filled up, it felt like we did not exist. The snapper, brussel sprouts, & potatoes were very good, but the dessert was terrible. It tasted like burned chocolate, & after trying to get someone's attention for 30 minutes, we sent it back. They didn't charge us for the dessert but no apologies were offered. You can tell who the regulars are there since the staff swarm around them. I'm not sure if we had such bad service because we didn't order wine, or maybe because we were two women. We waited another 30 minutes for the bill. The bill was well over $100.00 which I expected, but I did not expect such poor & snobbish service.

Lunch!

By ppettyHtown |

We live across the street from this legendary restaurant. On occasion we treat ourselves to dinner but there is a delightful, inexpensive way to enjoy the amazing food - simply stop by for lunch on Monday through Friday. For only $20 one can have a luscious appetizer and entry, including short ribs or chicken francese to die for! And the service, as always, is impeccable. And with Houston Restaurant Week starting August 1, treat yourself to a delightful three course meal for only $45 at this Houston landmark!

Cotton Candy, Lemon Souflee, and Wine - what more could a girl want?

By Kellykeys1 |

I am a foodie on a budget. Thus, when Houston Restaurant Weeks comes each August, it makes for my favorite time of year. I have always wanted to try Tony's and why did I wait so long?!? The food and service are well worth the price tag. It is an absolute Houston gem! This place is a culinary dream. As I ate my risotto, it was as if time stood still. Our party of four greatly enjoyed our well made bar drinks. The fish melted in my mouth, and the lemon souflee was perfect. To top it all off, the cotton candy was over the top cute and yummy. This place should not be missed!!!! I will be back soon.

Best of the Best

By KISpe007 |

This is easily one of the top restaurants in the country. I don't say this lightly, and it is only after eating in many fine dining establishments throughout the USA. Everything about Tony's is exceptional. The food, the service, the ambiance are all at the very pinnacle. Their young, talented Executive Chef is terrific and very eager to make your meal at Tony's memorable.

Dated Glam

By Appreciative88 |

Tony’s has always set the bar for fine dining in Houston. I love the lobster bisque and chocolate souffle. Unfortunately, the night our family went to celebrate a special occasion, the place had an eerie quiet vibe with only 2 tables of diners. Despite this, our service was slow and not attentive. The food had also lost its lustre. Nothing remarkable at very very steep prices. We wondered if the restaurant had been recently sold to an absentee owner. A big disappointment for this grand place. Tony’s has been greatly surpassed for fine dining experiences.

Mediocre Houston Restaurant Weeks Dinner experience

By Gene T |

After my wife and her girlfriends had an absolutely terrible lunch experience on a Wednesday, a group of three couples had an HRW dinner at Tony's on Saturday night, and, while there was a drastic improvement, the meal we had was not typical of a meal at Tony's. First, our server apparently decided that, because we asked for the HRW menus, he wasn't going to get a sizable tip, so we didn't see much of him, which resulted in our inability to order as much alcohol and wine as we'd have liked to have ordered. We began with delicious amuse bouches of mushroom(?) ravioli, and then followed with truly excellent appetizers which included Escargots, Roman Artichoke Salad, Rigatoni Bolognese Bianco and Pansoti. Entrees included the Grilled Abalone Mushroom, Niman Short Ribs of Beef, both of which received rave reviews, and the Halibut Prosecco, ordered by all three of the men. This dish was served bare--no decoration of any sort on the plate, so it was visually unappealing; moreover, while it had a wonderful flavor, all three of us agreed it was somewhat tough, meaning it was probably overcooked. The desserts were simply outstanding--the Italian Beauty (for the chocolate lovers), Panna Cotta with blackberry sauce (the best I've ever tasted), and Un Bacio Arancione (if you like a citrusy type dessert). Tony's IMHO is a place you must be a "regular" in order to get top-flight service, and one must order off the regular menu to get their truly excellent food. I do not recommend this place for Houston Restaurant Weeks.

Perfect for a special occasion!

By txtravelbug7 |

Tony's is a real treat! The restaurant is lovely and the experience is outstanding from start to finish. Jonathan, our captain, made sure that service timing was perfect and that we never wanted for anything. Mr. Vallone came by the table twice to check on us and we appreciated that! We also met Mrs. Vallone, and the warmth of their greeting was genuine. The food is beyond excellent. Every course is beautifully presented and the portion sizes generous. We loved the burrata/prosciutto appetizer, the veal chop and the filet "Tony's way". Scott, the sommelier, helped us make a wonderful selection of a Tuscan wine that was a lovely complement to the meal. After our souffles (a must for dessert) we walked to the bar area, where Kennady prepared very nice after dinner drinks and we were able to listen to Louie Carrington on the piano. It was a fantastic end to an evening we'll not soon forget!

Perfect, As Advertised

By SPK1951 |

Business lunch was cancelled but we stayed to eat anyway. Good decision. Extremely well prepared soups to start, main courses delicious, waitstaff as good as one should expect at a location with the name of Tony's. Interesting wine list - one of us did not like the bottle we chose, so the steward was very helpful finding a replacement glass for her. Best part was that prices were not nearly as high as one might have expected. Good deal all around.

Houston Restaurant Week Experience

By Zeke H |

Nice place to have a snoobish dinner. If you enjoy paying top dollar for the finer cuisines you have struck gold. The menu has every thing under the sun but bring your wallet if you want to enjoy a bottle of wine here. Prices range from 55 - 45,000 per bottle at this establishment. I enjoyed everything I ate here but watch out for the hidden fees. Everything comes with a price and this place adds new meaning to the phrase "nothing in life comes free".

Service Over the top

By Textraveler2013 |

Four of us visited Tony’s during Houston restaurant week. The restaurant is elegant-table clause are ironed. We received a delicious lunch for $20. Our appetizer : Egg drop soup and salad were very good and our entrees of steak cooked to perfection well done as we requested and our salmon well done as we requested was perfect. This service was the best I have had anywhere! You have to experience it to understand!

Not just for special occasions!

By Richard J |

The setting is gorgeous....glassed kitchen allows you to view a bit of the behind the scenes magic that takes place there. Everything is fresh....and Tony's only serves the finest aged beef and the tastiest lump crab meat cocktail you will ever experience. An elegant wine room is available for private parties, and the bar is always hopping.

Very poor Houston Restaurant Weeks Lunch experience

By Gene T |

My wife and her girlfriends had an horrible experience at Tony's today for lunch. Six of them arrived, had a beautifully-set table, and ordered either the Pansotti or the Lansagnette, both of which were absolutely wonderful, according to everyone at the table. When it came to the entrees, however, it was a totally different story. The ladies had ordered either the Snapper Francese or the Prime Steak Salad. No one--not one--of the ladies could enjoy their meals, although two did finish their snapper dishes. Two sent it back in favor of the Salmon Tartare. (All had commented the snapper dish did not taste fresh, and also did not taste like real fish, but rather, like it was reconstituted with cracker meal or something similar.) The prime steak was literally burned on the edges, and both ladies were unable to eat it. Unlike Tony's, the restaurant did not comp the meals. We are scheduled to dine there Saturday evening, so another reviews will follow. I sincerely hope it will be a good one.

Really really nice food

By Crazyfoodlover |

Went here for The first time and it was a very nice experience. We started with cocktails and followed with a bottle of wine. We both had the restaurant weeks menu, my favorite was the truffle risotto - this was awesome The mains were good and we also added the Mac n cheese which I could have eaten a bowl of This was a very nice meal and was very happy we went here. Caution you are required to wear a jacket

5 Shining Stars

By Love2Travel26x2 |

Tony's never disappoints. Service is impeccable-and the food is simply the best all around. I loved the Salmon salad and my dessert was an engineering marvel. All this does come at a price so be prepared to pay for it all. Great place for an important business lunch or a special or romantic occasion. Valet parking is offered; proper attire required.

Fabulous food exceptional service

By Michael S |

My wife and I had dinner there tonight. The service was exceptional from everyone. Each was attentive but not overly so. They kept the water glasses filled and the fresh bread plentiful. I had the Greenburg chopped salad and my wife the lobster bisque to start. Both appetizers were excellent. For the main course my wife had red snapper with a red wine reduction sauce. I had Tasmanian salmon. Both dishes were beautifully presented and very very delicious. They were cooked perfectly. We had creamed spinach which was also excellent. All in all one of the finest culinary experiences we ever enjoyed.

I have to say, if you're on an unlimited food budget in Houston, Tony's might be the very best choice in town. The service, food preparation and presentation, and overall ambiance is just great! But you'll pay handsomely for it. Expect $100 per person for a 3 course meal with one drink, tax and tip included (or more if you order off their exceptional wine list). I started with Tonno Crudo, a tuna appetizer of melt-in-your-mouth quality, served in a light lime soy vinaigrette sauce. Delicious! Sensing that my dining partners might order more food than they could actually consume (and we like to share with each other), I went for an appetizer portion of the mushroom risotto -- again perfectly cooked, a reasonable portion for a rich dish, and immediately presented at the table, piping hot. Superb! A side of asparagus wasn't anything special -- fresh of course, steamed perfectly but not very flavorful. OK. As expected, my dining partners were in a sharing mood, and I tried a portion of absolutely exceptional Osso Bucco. It really was an amazing preparation, huge portion, and meat just falling off the bone.....with an extraordinary flavor. Wow! We ended the meal sharing two small chocolate souffles for 3 persons (ordered with dinner because of preparation time). A truly special way to end the meal. it's so rich, even at a small size, we could have been satisfied by sharing just one small portion instead of two. So, when you're ready to enjoy that really special occasion and don't mind dropping a bundle of money for a great experience, Tony's might be the best choice in Houston.
