Poblano enchiladas

By erinbchi |

We went here for dinner and it was great! I had the poblano enchiladas and they were DELICIOUS! There was fajita chicken and peppers in a delicious sauce with plenty of gooey cheese and sliced avocado. Speaking of avocado, the guacamole is also delicious. Definitely recommend.

Good Food even better Margarita's

By Anthony R |

Tony's is like home. If you are looking for upscale and cute this is not the place. Service is always great and the drinks are always on point. I wish they would add a Happy Hour special. Even if anything is remotely off Tony himself has always been there to assist.

Great Food

By Miffsa |

Always friendly service and good, fast hot food. Love the fact that they are closed on Sundays to take time out for family, church, ect. Love the cheese enchiladas. We frequent the Ella Blvd location.

Wow, the fajita steak melted in my mouth!

By Suburban_Planner |

I got a salad for lunch and it was awesome. I am not a salad guy, but this was awesome. It had fajita meat on top of a layer of vegetables with a queso sauce as the dressing. So good.

Food good but Margarita was Disappointing

By Leapgirl |

Enjoyed the food. Well seasoned, served hot. Big disappointment was the frozen margarita. Nothing but slush - no taste at all.

Good Ole Tex Mex, Nothing Fancy

By Bill A |

I visit both Tony's on Ella and Tony's on the Katy Freeway near Barker Cypress, and never had a bad experience. They food is really good Tex Mex without frills or a trendy menu. You can't go wrong with one of their combinations, typical enchiladas, tacos, tamales with rice and beans. You can choose between charro or re-fried beans, go with the charro. You'll need to order a side of jalapenos as most of the dishes are more on the mainstream side to cater to the masses. Fajitas are good, but not the inside skirt you might get a Pappasito's, but about 1/2 the price. Fish tacos are one of my favorites on the lunch menu, topped with a nice cream sauce. BEWARE of their margaritas, they are potent!!! If your driving, limit yourself to ONE, if your riding TWO will probably put you in a happy place.

Fajitas for Two Enough for Four

We had a wonderful family lunch. Great food and atmosphere plus friendly hospitality by all who greeted us and served us. We look forward to returning for breakfast, lunch. or dinner in the future.

Tasty but pricey Mexican food

By Leslie M. Guzmán |

This was my first time eating at Tony's, my husband was a regular there when he worked in the area, but it was a few years ago. He told me that he remembered them as good food and cheap. Well the food was pretty good, but the price was a bit higher than I’m used to for Mexican food. My husband said that the price had gone up a lot since the last time he was there. I It was a little packed and loud for my taste. I could hear the mother at the next table nagging one of her many children. At another time my husband and I were in deep conversation and someone started talking so loud and it sounded rough, several people looked in the direction of the loud voice, and it was a very questionable man who was saying "whats up" to the large table of other loud people. I think they should sit the loud families and big groups in the back of the restaurant, and couples or people not there to yell at each other closer to the entrance. The food was pretty tasty, I ordered their carnitas of the house (pork) and they made them pretty good. Loved their tortilla chips and mild hot sauce, they serve it real warm reminds you of home made hot sauce. Only bummer was them not having horchata or real lemonade. The wait staff is extra friendly and very attentive. They were constantly refilling my iced tea and asking if everything was ok.

YUMMY!

Tony's is a very successful local Tex Mex rest. Good food, great service and family friendly. Enjoy!

bland food

By cindy c |

First and last time. Looks nice but it's super loud, and bright in there and the food is made by armature. Seriously, does this chef even taste the food?? I bet the staff doesn't even eat this bland food! Gave it a 2 star just to be nice. But y'all better off eating somewhere else. Tony's restaurant is not worth the money we spent.

Tortilla Soup

By Hurricane-C |

You cannot get a better tortilla soup anywhere in the Houston area !!! Love all their food items !!! Great Margarita's also !!!

Never Disappoints

By Charles B |

We have eaten at the Ella location since it first opened. Since then it has expanded several times and the biggest problem is finding enough parking. Since moving from Houston, we return on occasion for business in the Katy area and have begun going to the I-10 location when possible. The food and service continue to be great at both locations. While I enjoy hot foods, their mild salsa is nearly addictive. We nearly always get the Tacos al Carbon and they have never been less than perfect. Just as we had grown accustomed to seeing Tony, the owner, at the Ella location, it is strange to see him at the I-10 location. We haven't figured out yet how he can be at both restaurants but believe that his hands on approach helps to maintain the uniform quality at both places.

Tony's 3G! Great food, Greater margaritas, Greatest atmosphere!

By Patrice S |

I thought I knew all about Houston's great margaritas but I definitely have to add Tony's to this list! Tony's delivers on great food, greater margaritas and the greatest atmosphere!

Good Tex-Mex and Mexican food, big menu, friendly

By Pepperjackm |

It's in the Heights of Houston where we have family so we have been in the area recently a lot, this is a good and easy to get to and park restaurant, Ella is busy major street, good reasonable priced food.

I Don't Get It

By Rick B |

I see lots of very positive reviews but that was certainly not our experience. We had a large (13 folks) party on a Friday evening. We explicitly told them multiple times to seat us tables of 4 whenever available even if not at same time since we had no expectation of having one table. After everyone else in the waiting area an hour later was seated we asked status. Oh, they said, we couldn't get 3 tables together. Hello, duh, you obviously don't listen. We were then seated immediately at multiple tables as we had originally requested. The food was maybe mediocre. Fajita burritos were overcooked steak fajita meat wrapped in a tortilla and slathered with a cheese sauce a step above melted Velveeta. Worst I've ever had and I grew up in TX. Salsa is poured from a water carafe and mediocre. I get better Mexican food in Ohio than this place yet everyone seems to love it..

Nice

By vasco q |

I love to get the big appetizer and share... Make sure you do not order lunch or dinner because it is a lot of food. At times we just order two big appetizers and no more than two ritas! Hay caramba!

GREAT!!!!

By TravelingDrZ |

What service! What food! This was the BEST meal I had while visiting friends. The "small" soup was the size of my head. And the taste was amazing. Great place for Mexican. Thanks for a great meal.

Good food but kinda disorganized

By Glen S |

So this typical tex mex with many of the usual offerings. The food is good and the prices are ok. The only 4 margaritas run about $10 and up. Some of their other offerings are expensive like the fajitas and other offerings are more expensive. Now when we first walked in it took them 10 minutes to even greet us. I finally said something and they seated us promply. I can never understand why restaurant workers get preoccupied and forget about customers. If want ok Mexican food at reasonable prices then try this place.

Still Excellent

By Jonfo1969 |

I haven't been to Tony's for a while and my client wanted to go. Still fantastic food and great service!!

great Mexican at good prices

By Ian D |

Met up with a couple of colleagues and took them here for Mexican food. restaurant is a little jaded but the food and servers are great. if you like Mexican food then look no further.

Best Mexican food

By fischman44 |

This place is in the middle of a neighborhood and has the most amazing Mexican food. Order the enchilada, but save room because the chips they bring out before you get your food are addictive and so good!

Our Go To Mexican

By Schana C |

We used to love to go to the restaurant on a Friday night along with the rest of Houston, but due to COVID we choose to get food to go! Their Mexican is so yummy and is a Friday night staple.

too crowded for comfort although good food

By KLsWanderlust |

The food was excellent but a bit pricey ... especially when coupled with the cramped seating layout and noise levels so loud as to preclude having a dinner conversation ... perhaps if we went at a less convenient time the crowd /noise would be less so the food could be enjoyed more.

Still Good Mexican Food

By bacrowe |

3/5/2016 I have not been to Tony's in years and this was a first time visit for my mom and daughter. We made a weekend celebration for my mom's birthday and ended the day here at Tony's. Soft drink...........$2.60 1/2 crispy taco...$6.50 cheese enchiladas...$10.75 enchilada Marisco......$13.75...............Total $36.37 We all enjoyed the meal and my daughter and I had left overs that were even good the next day.

Margarita's are excellent

By Jeana R |

Tony's Mexican Restaurant has a small town vibe. Unusual to find in a restaurant in a city the size of Houston. The wait staff was attentive, with drinks and food being served promptly. The food is good, but the margarita's are #delish.

Surely One of Houston’s Finer Mexican Restaurants

By Jeff S |

This location is the original! On a weekday outing for an hour’s business lunch it was so popular we had to park in an overflow lot. Once inside, we were greeted right away. Our party of three was led to a clean and ready table. The décor tastefully blended contemporary elements with more traditional Mexican motifs. Bilingual service staff dressed smartly and knew the menu. They made us feel right at home. From taking our orders to bringing our check, their service was friendly, swift, and attentive. Most entrées on a special lunch menu were inexpensive for a big-city restaurant. Our appetizer of crispy nachos came with a subtle and cool salsa and a brash and spicy queso. Our shrimp quesadillas, chicken enchiladas, and burrito especial plates were each exactly as we’d requested. Our entrées arrived hot and our drinks cold. Despite a noontime crush, we never had to shout to be heard when we conversed. Dining was leisurely, with no push to clear our table after eating. We’ll be sure to return here for lunch again!

Good tortilla soup..and, yes, their flan is the best..!

By rabuabara |

Please remind the waiter to ask the cook to mix the tortilla soup before serving it.. Otherwise it is too watery..! Chips are fresh as well as all the dishes they serve.... and, yes.. don't miss on their flan.

Once a Great Restaurant but now more interested in Religion than the Food

By genoacowboy |

Tony was once an employee of the Molina Restaurant Family. About 10 years ago I would have recommended this place. But now Tony focuses more on his Church and Religion than his Restaurant. The Food is not fresh, the carpet stinks , it needs remodeling (Not Religion) , the staff is lazy. Tony needs to decide to either be a Preacher in a Church or concentrate on his restaurant. Religion is great but when eating at a restaurant we don't need it jammed down our throats, certainly while you serve us horrible food.

OUR FAVORITE

By Anne |

We love Tony's and my family goes on a regular basis. I get to go when we are in town and have never had a bad meal. Family atmosphere and the food is amazing. You will not be disappointed.

It's above avarage Mexican food at a good price

By OneHonestReviewer |

I live in San Antonio, the home of Tex-Mex so it take a lot to impress me. I have eaten at a few Mexican restaurants around Houston and some were good, some were horrible. Tony's is one of the best I have had in Houston though it does not beat my favorite place in San Antonio. Went on a Friday evening, parking lot and overflow parking were full even at 7pm so a good sign. Wait was one hour but it was Friday, may want to call and see if they take reservations. Started with nachos, warm and fresh. Salsa was warm in temperature and fairly thin, not thick more like taco sauce and it was only slightly hot, not even Taco Cabana hot. I ordered beef nachos to test the ground beef and they were excellent. Nachos were baked perfectly with good amounts of cheese and beef throughout and the ground beef was flavorful but NOT salty, a good thing. Great way to start a meal. Margaritas were fair, a good amount of alcohol in them but could have been a little sweeter or fruity, however after two of these it probably would not matter. Wife had HUGE chimichanga and could only eat half of it. She also had an enchilada and she said it was great. I had the combination fajitas both beef and chicken and it was good. The meat was cooked well and was not fatty but I am used to seasoning on my meat and there was none here so for me it was a little plain. Rice was good and a fair amount of condiments like sour cream, pico, and guacamole. Only three flour tortillas with the order so you should just order some more as I took half my food home and will need more then. Borracho beans were okay, could have used some more heat in them, but a nice change from refried beans. Prices even at dinner are very reasonable, but lunch is the best for value. They have a lot to choose from so everyone should be happy and did I mention the drinks were strong?? So far this the best Mexican place I have found in Houston so I'll be coming back. Service was also pretty good considering the crowd. Leave the kids at home, get a few drinks and make it an evening, you won't regret it.

Consistently Excellent Mexican Food

By QOE |

We've been going to Tony's for years and it is consistently excellent. The food is well prepared and promptly served. The service is always excellent. I think they have some of the best combination plates - and some that don't include rice and beans which are often wasted on me. I appreciate the fact that they serve two different salsas with the chips and both are very tasty. They make a great frozen margarita too! Tony's is always busy and there can be a wait but it is worth it. The place has expanded over the years and still remains packed most of the time. Sometimes it can get a bit loud but you won't care because the food is so good. Tony's is one of our "go to" restaurants when we're looking for excellent authentic Mexican food.

Dinner with family

By osterjo |

The wide variety of choices was perfect for a family of ten to find something we all liked. My son who lives in the Houston area recommended it and it is.now one of my favorites

Maso menos!

By Ashley T |

Good frozen margs and excellent service, but the food was average. I had friends who highly recommended Tony’s so I stopped by while in the area, but wasn’t super impressed. Just your standard Mexican food. If you’re new in fown and looking for GREAT Mexican food, try El Tiempo!

Poor food, fair service

By Bill M |

I must have hit this place on a bad day, based on the other reviews I've read. I went to this restaurant with a friend for lunch during the week. We arrived about 1:30 or so and were seated immediately, so not bad there. We put in drink orders, soda and water and received them fairly quickly, not bad there. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, and my friend ordered the beef strip taco lunch special and it took a little long to get to us, starting to look a little worse (and it goes downhill). When the food arrived it was luke warm at best, and the waitstaff had all pretty much disappeared. My enchiladas were okay, but I had had better a couple of days before at another restaurant close by. My friends taco meat was as tough as shoe leather, and very bland tasting. The rice was pretty good, though, and the beans were so so. Over all I think that they may do a better dinner, or perhaps if you have enough to drink the food is wonderful. I may try this place again, because not all the reviewers can be wrong, but it seems like they are going more for dinner than lunch - of course the cook could have just been having a bad day, or was out sick so they promoted the busboy...

Good food for cost with average atmosphere and service.

By greenMONST3R7 |

Very good food for a good cost. Service was a team effort type system which was a little off, but not so bad to run me away. Would definitely go back if in the area again.

Best Chicken Enchiladas Mole' in Houston!

By houstongal43 |

My husband is from San Antonio so he knows good mole'. He says that Tony's has the most authentic mole' sauce in town....AND he has made me a fan of the Chicken Enchiladas Mole' as well. I have also had other dishes and they are all good. This place is always very crowded after 6 pm on Friday and Saturday (closed Sunday), so get there early! Now, for the margaritas.....from personal experience, if you drink more than two, you will be crawling on the floor to leave the restaurant. My husband LOVES the margaritas because he "gets more bang for the buck", as he puts it. They are a little strong for me, but the second one ALWAYS tastes better! I've talked to people at the bar who drive all the way across town to eat and drink @ Tony's. You can't lose!

Possibly the best Tex-Mex in town!"

By 82-Ag |

This place, and their other restaurant in Katy, is great! Excellent chips, salsa, good service, and the food is possibly the best Tex-Mex in town! Note they are closed on Sunday. I live in Houston, and have eaten at many Mexican places, and I heartily recommend this one!!

Excellent TO GO orders

By Mark43 |

This was our first visit to Tony's. They had been recommended. We wanted good Mexican food, but needed it to-go. We selected the grilled chicken fajitas with onions, with Mexican rice, refried beans, pico de gallo, guacamole and flour totillas. The servings were surprisingly large. Tony's has a couple of parkings spots at the front door, just for carry-out orders. The cashier staff was friendly and had our carry-out order waiting and ready-to-go, just as promised. They have great packaging for carry-out. It seemed like a family friendly restaurant, fun and able to handle crowds. We will definitely be back. It was delicious!

Very good Tex Mex!

By MaltaBound |

Are you hungry? If so, order the parilla (spelling?). We ordered this dish that served two persons, but three could have partook. First the chips: they are warm, crunchy with good hot sauce. The parilla comes on a sizzling platter. It has two split quail that are grilled, and shrimp that are wrapped in bacon. Of course, chicken and beef fajitas. There was so much to eat. The only downside was that we were a couple and they sat us in the back in a room full of families with noisy kids. Oh well, we should have told the manager and we didn't. Our bad! But, again - the food was delicious. Get there early on a Friday or there is a wait.

Good food and great margaritas

By Missy56163 |

It was the weekend and very crowded so we had to stand and wait for a table for about 20 minutes. The food was very good and the margaritas on. The rocks were great ! Will go back again on a less crowded night.

I miss the old Tony's

By A B |

We live close to Tony's and used to be regulars for more than a decade before the pandemic... twice a week or more. I loved the food, which was fairly priced, and the atmosphere, which was calm and welcoming. Both times we've gone lately, the noise has been absolutely unbearable...not sure if it's the new decor (with more hard surfaces) or the younger crowd. But you can't have a normal conversation in there without yelling. Sorry, but comfort food isn't the same in a loud bar-type setting. And the cost has DOUBLED. I miss Tony, the guy who would personally come to your table and shake your hand, saying "Welcome Home." So very sad about his sudden passing. While the current staff is still lovely and attentive, I'm reluctant to return. Guessing this review won't change the current management practices but leaving it just in case they are willing to listen.

Mexican food as usual

By GeoTravel49 |

Informal design and atmosphere with standard Mexican dishes on the menu. Quality is average and waiters the same. Probably a good place if you a very much into Mexican food but we don't believe the place will recruit new fans. All in all an average place with average good food, you will not regret it but nothing more either.

Always a crowd

By gay e |

Tony’s serves traditional Texmex food that has very good service and lots of flavor. Parking can be tight, so go early. They have a special each lunch which is very reasonable. Comfortable but busy noise. Casual, recommended.

Muy Bueno!

By Robert W |

This is a very good Tex Mex Restaurant. Excellent sauces and queso. No frills but a solid experience for a reasonable price. Margueritas are STRONG!

Enjoyable Evening w Friends

By Jeff D |

Always reliable for a good evening, Tony's is not where you go for something new or unusual. Reliable food and drinks are always on the menu.

It must of been the margaritas talkin

By Micah H |

Pretty good Mexican food but nothing you can't find at most good tex mex joints in Houston. The salsa is pretty good as well, but I suspect the long lines and wait you will find most evenings at Tony's is for their sneaky strong margaritas. The margaritas are good but if you move past two or three the food will seem less important.

Pricey for what you get!

By Jeff P |

With valet service up front, our expectations were probably set a little high walking in. The atmosphere is very casual and family orientated which we didn't expect with the valet parking. Food was average for a TexMex place but the margaritas were very expensive for the Grande size like $12.95 and $13.95 for a fruit one. For 2 people, 2 drinks each and a meal it was close to $100 with tip. The food and experience wasn't that good to warrant that kind of price!

The best mexican food!

By martini7142003 |

This is by far one of my most favorite Mexican restaurants! Everything is good...the chips are warm...the salsa spicy & delicious...the food is awesome! The service is great!

Really good

By R W |

There are a lot of Merican restaurants in Houston. Add this one to your list of go-to places. Won't be dissapointed. Crowded and somewhat loud, but excellent food and excellent service. They are definitely a notch above the rest.

Tex Mex lunch

By houstonnative47 |

Went here recently with a friend who loves this place. We shared some chile con queso with taco meat which was good. She liked her tortilla soup and I liked my fish tacos. However I thought the rice was rather plain. This place isn't going anywhere as it has been here for years.

Good local Mexican food...

By StAndrew747 |

Good local Mexican food. Killer Margueritas. Family Atmosphere.

Great, authentic Mexican food

By dcrrwall |

If you want Mexican food and you want the real deal, Tony's is a great place to go. The food is always fresh, and the margaritas are among the best in Houston. This is not fast-food or chain restaurant cuisine. It's home-cooked and delicious.

great place!

By john p |

everything was excellent! the food and service were very good. as soon as we walked in the door the hosts greeted us by saying "welcome home". i had never been welcomed like that in a restaurant before, at least in a long time.

Mexican food like mmama made

By Teddybear57 |

Great frozen maragitas. The cheese enchiladas are cheesie and hot. The food is fresh. The fish tacos are crispy with a delicate flavor

Great Food; Good Prices

By cathy0606 |

Love the carnita's. The Height's location is very busy on the weekends. The Katy location is less crowded.

Good Mexican food -north side Houston

By edcmoverman |

Good ol' Tex-Mex. We've eaten here a number of times... it's always good, though sometimes better than others. Occasionally, the food hasn't been hot enough...sometimes the service has been a little off. My wife always orders the Acupulco, substituting an extra cheese enchilada for the tamale, and add onions on top. Point: the regular guacamole served with meals is surprisingly tastier than the made-to-order guacamole served as an appetizer. I always order the quail, it is above average. Ray's did is very good.

Good Mexican food in the Heights

By Mike E |

Good food. Only been once but will go back next time I'm in the mood for Mexican. I especially like the shrimp wrapped in bacon.

Bland Mexican Food

By Tim H |

I appreciate the family atmosphere and being in the neighborhood for 27 years, but this is the most bland, under seasoned and over processed food I have ever eaten. Tony’s management need to cut the menu in half and focus on quality and freshness. Maybe the new Mexican restaurant going in on Ella and 34th will up the ante for Mexican food in the area. Till then I will drive to the bit above average El Tiempo on Washington Ave.

Food is the saving grace

By ZephyrTexas |

Although a good hot plate of cheese enchiladas, rice & beans sounds simple enough, it is amazing how few Mexican restaurants can deliver good simple food anymore. I am happy to report that Tony's provides an excellent helping of Tex-Mex. The religion of the owners is pushed on people, but regulars will become used to the bible verses coverning the walls and menus. One big negative is the restaurant's practice of inconvenient, unnecessary valet parking - the kind that takes away the closest parking spaces for the convenience of the valet parkers, not the patrons.

Average Mexican Food but Slow Service

By avshockey |

Stopped in for lunch and the service was pretty slow. My co-worker said they were usually faster. The enchiladas were ok, nothing spectacular. Not a bad meal, but not a great meal either.

Great mexican food

By Jimma777 |

I was very pleased with the outstanding food, service and atmosphere. The manager and owner stop by my table to make sure I was happy and the server kept my tea

OMG!

By HouTXHeightsGuy |

Food is good, but not the best I've had. I like Teotihaucan better. However, Tony's margaritas are muy muy poderoso (powerful). My guess is that they add Everclear to the mix. Drink one before your food comes and you'll swear you are the prettiest person in the place. Drink two and you will start dancing on the table. I kid you not! I have picked up a lot of friends who can't drive home after 2 margs at Tony's :)

Wow

By Villalva |

did not expect this place to be like this when I found it. the interior reminded me of a topical Californian Mexican restaurant. good was good also. great staff who's very attentive.

Good

By Deborah M |

I haven't been here in over 5 years and I think it was okay, however for 2 house margaritas and 2 entrees should not have cost $45 + tip. A family of 4 would be paying close to $75.00! Not going back for dinner, however when they start seven breakfast I will give it a try!

Standard, Nothing Special

By alfer05 |

I visited Tony's with a group of four for a late Saturday night dinner. This place is always packed so we were quite excited for our dinner. We were promptly greeted by the hostess. When we arrived, there were only 3 tables with people at them. We asked to sit outside but instead we were sat right next to a long table of ~15 people that had likely had too many margaritas. They were very loud! The interior of the restaurant reminded our group of a Denny's (the salsa even comes out of a coffee pitcher). The margaritas were average- not too much lime, somewhat sweet. The food came out pretty fast. We ordered the combo fajitas, street tacos and fajita chimichanga. The fajita meat was thick and juicy, very delicious! But, the serving size of the add-ons was too small. I will likely not come here again. The food was average and the prices were above average.

❤️ Tony’s

By dlbydb1100 |

We loved Tony’s. The restaurant is very nice. Parking in front is all valet, so if you don’t care to valet, there is parking behind the restaurant. The service was excellent. The food was good, but the margs were fantastic. Glad we visited & Tony’s is on our rotation.

Great Mexican in the Heights

By medalguy |

We went to Tony's with a group of about 12 for dinner on a weeknight. We had to wait about ten minutes for a table that would seat all of us but that was no problem. A few ordered margaritas and they seemed to enjoy them. I did not order a drink. We ordered a variety of meals, and everyone remarked that their food was good. I had the Enchiladas Verde and my wife and daughter split the Carne Asada Gringo and they said it was also quite good. They refilled our drink glasses whenever they got low, and kept us in chips and salsa throughout the meal. Prices here are not cheap, but the food is quite good and the ambiance is good. We eat here every time we go to Houston to visit our daughter and can't ever recall a problem.

Perfectly average

By Nicholas |

Service was good. Got the vegetarian special which came with cheese enchiladas, rice and beans and a bean & cheese taco. The taco was really just a tortilla chip with beans and cheese. The enchiladas were okay nothing outstanding. The beans and rice weren't that great. Neither was the chips and salsa. There were a lot of white people there. It's probably a good place for someone who prefers their Tex-mex more on the Tex side but I won't be back.

Never Again

By Mary B |

Tony’s was a special place for my family and I. We went to dinner there after Tony passed away. Food/drinks terrible. My sister’s car was broken into!

Place to go for great Mexican food & Margarita's

By Arthur V |

Tony's has a great menu filled with every combination of tacos, tostadas, enchiladas, fajitas, shrimp, and fish to name a few entres with rice, beans, & grilled veggies. The menu is extensive so I've selected the most common. However, for the more adventuous there are chile rellenos, chicken mole, & carnitas. I've attended large events (retirement & birthday celebrations) and not so large events (business) and solo and never have had one complaint. The staff excels at delivering top shelf service.

Excellent Tex Mex

By HTownFan |

Tony's is a great choice for Tex Mex at a very convenient location if you live in the Heights or Oak Forest areas. The beef fajitas are superb and the margaritas are delicious but very strong. Only negative would be it's not very spacious and it can get very crowded on the weekends.

Good Tex-Mex

By houstontraveler1955 |

This place has above average food. A 7 on a scale of 10 compared to other Tex-Mex restaurants in the Houston area. The ambiance of the place is a little lacking but not so bad as to be distracting. Kind of a typical family-owned neighborhood Tex-Mex place in Houston which is of sufficient quality to warrant occasional return visits.

Fresh and Deliscious

By jazzergirl |

I recently found Tony's while in town on a business trip. It was packed with locals which seemed like a good sign. The staff was efficient, friendly, and got us seated in less than 15 minutes on a Friday night. The service was top notch! The wait staff was attentive and professional. The place was busy, but our food arrived promptly. I have to say it was some of the best Mexican food I've had in a long time and very reasonably priced. The tamales were clearly made fresh that day. I highly recommend their homemade guacamole. I could have eaten my weight in that stuff! We also enjoyed tacos, enchiladas, and a chicken quesadilla. Everything was fabulous! If you find yourself in Houston, Tony's is worth a visit.

Average Tex-Mex

By TexTravelerUS |

I went here after reading that it was among the top ten in Houston Mexican food restaurants. The enchiladas were said to be their specialty so I had one of each type (beef, cheese and chicken). I found the food good but not exceptional. I do give kudos for the service however. My tea glass was never empty nor the delicious bowl of warm salsa.

Above Average Mexican Food

By Nucking F |

Good Mexican food. Can get busy after 6pm so get there early. Shrimp cocktail is excellent. Fajita's and Margarita's are tasty. Not open on Sundays.

Dinner

By mistybHouston_Texas |

Excellent margarita's. Food is good, service generally good. Over the years, portions have reduced as well as quality, but only a tad. Place gets crazy busy, especially on Friday nights but is always full.

Excellent Mexican for families

Took my sons and their families to Tony's and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their dinners. Everyone had something different and everyone raved about the food. Service was also excellent. Prices for 10 dinners with adult beverages was less than $17 per person including the tip.

Lost Our Credit Card and Accused Us

By Nola1005 |

I have dined at Tony's 30+ times. It used to be a neighborhood favorite of ours, until tonight. We called ahead to put our name on the list and were told it was a 30 minute wait. When we arrived 20 minutes later we were told it would be another hour. When we finally got a table it was in the bar section with Juan as our server. We didn't want to sit there because Juan is known for being particularly bad at his job (gets orders wrong, forgets drink orders, takes forever to bring out chips, water, salsa, etc.). Since it was a Friday and we didn't want to wait any longer, we risked it and sat in Juan's section anyways....big mistake. Meal was as expected, Juan didn't freshen drinks, bring chips or tortillas even when requested. Then when the check came (after we requested it twice) we handed him two cards and asked him to split it 50/50, he agreed and walked away. When he came back, he had charged all $75 to one card and claimed we only gave him one card. We asked him where the second card went (did he drop it? forget it in his pocket?...tried not to imply he stole it) and he was adamant we only gave him one card despite all four people at the table witnessing otherwise. They eventually found the credit card at the bar because someone found it on the floor and turned it in. They claimed WE dropped it and/or left it at the bar ourselves. We clearly gave it to Juan with multiple people witnessing so and he dropped it. I suppose it's better than him stealing it since we actually got it back but it was infuriating to be accused of misplacing it ourselves and "overreacting" when they lost our credit card and pointed the finger at us. Not to mention humilating that our friends ended up being charged for our meals. The whole situation was handled particularly poorly. I love Tony's but I just don't see how we can go back after such and terrible experience. If this is how they treat incredibly loyal and regular customers I can't even imagine how it would have been for a first timer. Would not recommend.

first meal in Texas ever

TexMex - a famous phrase and with high expectations, i was nervous about being dissapointed. But i wasnt. the only thing i could say was negative, was the lighting - which is a pretty random thing to say, but the light wasnt very ambient and it would have been even better if it had been less strip-lighting, more atmospheric. But hey, the food did the talking, so i dont really care about the light! The food was delcious and the cocktails were even better - strong. very strong! service was friendly, fun and highly effcient. I would love to come back to this place.

Can be loud

Very busy place and can get quite loud. The service is very good. Margaritas are strong 4/5 We ordered the Chile con queso 3/5, guacamole Mexicano 4.5/5, brisket enchiladas 3.5/5, chicken fajitas 4/5, flautas de birria 4/5, and carnitas street tacos 4/5.

At the top of my list for Mexican food!

I have a friend that lives near the Tony's on Ella so every time I visit, which is often, I insist on having lunch at Tony's. I live on Lake Conroe so it's quite a trip but well worth it. The food is consistently great and the service is always prompt and efficient.

Fantastic Food Fiesta!!!

By Beth7117 |

Our party of eight, traveling from New Orleans to Austin, accidentally stumbled upon this place searching for an emergency bathroom and was very skeptical of a Mexican restaurant named Tony's! However, it proved to be some of the best Mexican food we have eaten in a restaurant. The atmosphere was very pleasant. The dining and restroom areas were very clean. The service was perfect. All the staff were courteous, helpful, and prompt. And the food... The food was excellent! Everyone around our table was impressed. Another item of note was the open display of Christian faith. It was quite refreshing to see a business owner who is not ashamed of their beliefs. Thanks Tony for a great meal and a wholesome experience!

A Very Nice Evening

The restaurant is very large, but it not crowded or noisy. The host, waiters and staff are quite friendly and helpful. Attentive, without being overbearing. The menu is extensive, including Tex-Mex but other options as well. The brochettes de camarones were very good. I recommend them. Drinks were quite nice, too.

Can't come to Houston without eating here!

This is one of my favorite stops when I am home. Great food at a great price! I have never had to wait, even during their rush hour times. According to these other reviews I need to try out the margaritas, next time...

Very Mediocre Tex-mex

By SR2004_1 |

The food here is mediocre at best. The margaritas are too strong and tastes like pure alcohol. It is VERY loud in this place and having conversation with your meal is impossible. There are lots of loud kids and non-sober adults talking as loud as they can. The parking is impossible, but there is a valet service. If the food was delicious I wouldn't mind eating there but is isn't. There are way too many Tex-Mex places in Houston to settle for a place like this.

Great food, high prices, slow service a

Food is very good. Check prices before ordering!!! Margaritas are $12 for normal size ones! "Specials" have a lot of food, but prices are high

Great neighborhood spot

By Katie K |

Tony's is a great spot to enjoy a relaxing evening. The whole place has an easy-going, relaxed feel, despite the quickness of the service and the speediness of the food presentation. The salsa has a refreshing kick to it, and the chips are served hot and fresh. The margaritas are always good, seems like the are always the same so they never disappoint! We like the fajitas, enchiladas, and the shrimp cocktail. The fajitas are served sizzling hot, and with plenty of sides, and the shrimp cocktail sauce is definitely spicy and delicious. The enchilada was not a stand-out, but definitely enough food to fill you up. It's a great neighborhood hang out that always makes you feel welcome! Take advantage of the valet parking as it's hard to find a spot on your own in the area.

Quick, delicious, tasty meals.

Our family's favorite meal is their breakfast. Make sure to order their homemade biscuits and gravy!

Great Food and Service

By TexasMorgans |

We were actually headed to another restaurant, but it was CLOSED! So.... we drove N on Ella and saw a bunch of cars in front of Tony's Mexican Restaurant. Plan B! We went in, and it was delicious😀. I loved their thin corn tortilla fried chicken flautas. We had the Batanus Appetizer Platter which was really too much for two, even as an entree. ALSO. They get their cilantro from CALFORNIA!!! Highly recommend!

Watch out for the margaritas!

By NCTexan2011 |

I like Tony's as a go-to for some good Tex-Mex that has fresh options that aren't as common on all restaurant menus. The frozen margaritas are something to watch out for though. I am told they have Everclear in them, but I didn't ask. They are definitely strong and stronger than the 'on the rocks' version.

Best margaritas

By amccormick50 |

The service is great and by now, the wait staff knows our family and what yo bring us. We love how family friendly it is, but they also know how to make the best margaritas around!
