This is the really nice place! Beautiful view, great food and friendly staff. We were with our friends and we really loved this place. And of course, I can recommend this place for all.

For my mother’s 70th birthday, my father wanted to see if we could get Chocolate Clams for her. I saw the reviews for Top fo the Market and decided to call and see if they served them. They do not. However, Cameron was so kind as to speak to Pablo, the market manager, to see if he would be able to procure them. To our great surprise, he was able to. Cameron made the necessary reservation for us. When we arrived, we were seated at a table close to the window with a beautiful view of the Bay and sunset. Our server, Jared, took our beverage order and brought us sourdough bread with their specialty spinach sauce. My daughter absolutely loved it, and we all admitted it was delicious and unique. My mother about cried when she opened the menu and saw that they had printed Happy 70th Birthday! on the menu. That was so exceptionally special and made my mother’s special day even more so. They allowed us to take the menu page. She was disappointed that Chocolate Clams were not the menu, however. We ordered a dozen oysters for our appetizer, and they came out along with the Chocolate Clam Ceviche the chef prepared. The oysters (three varieties) were so fresh and delicious. The Chocolate Clam Ceviche was tangy and had a very nice kick. The ceviche was a different way to have clams and a nice surprise. My mother ordered the Seared East Coast Sea Scallops, and she was not disappointed at all. The scallops were perfectly prepared. We all had a taste of it, and they were amazing. Usually restaurants overcook scallops but not here. The sauce was light and really allowed the scallops to shine. My father and daughter ordered the Linguine with Prawns. They expected a traditional Alfredo sauce but were pleasantly surprised by the tangy bell pepper sauce with a nice kick. The prawns were perfectly cooked. My other daughter ordered the Scottish Isle Salmon. She was expecting the salmon to be over cooked and dry. Nope. The outside layer was so crispy, you could hear the crunch across the table. The center was cooked to perfection. She could not stop smiling as she ate. My son ordered the child’s Linguine with Tiger Prawns in butter sauce. Wow. Even I dipped into his pasta on more than one time. The prawns were crunchy and not soggy. My husband ordered the Oregon Dungeness Crab Cioppino. He has very discerning taste. I watched as he took his first bite, and he lifted his eyebrows. That does not happen very often. He enjoyed the cioppino thoroughly. He said that the broth complimented the pasta and the seafood. He said that the seafood was perfectly cooked, including the Ahi Tuna and the scallops. He was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Pacific Ahi Tuna. I am always wary of doing so because usually chefs tend to overcook it and pick out sinewy cuts. Oh my gosh! The medallions of Ahi Tuna were sashimi grade pieces and were perfectly prepared. The medallions were seared, but the centers were still rare (sashimi). I love that the sauce did not overwhelm the tuna. Impressive! After we were done eating, they brought out a macaron decorated with a piece of chocolate with Happy Birthday on it. The raspberry reduction (we think) was so nice and complimented the macaron. We also ordered the Spiced Carrot Cake, the Key Lime Panna Cotta, and the Creme Brûlée. They were all amazing desserts that were not too sweet at all. My daughter originally wanted the Creme Brûlée but ended up finishing up the Spiced Carrot Cake. The Spiced Carrot Cake was extremely delicious. The Key Lime Panna Cotta was delicious. The tartness of the Key Lime was very refreshing. The Creme Brûlée was perfect. The consistency of the Creme Brûlée was creamy yet solid. It seemed to melt in my mouth. We had such a wonderful evening at the Top of the Market restaurant. The service was excellent. The person refilling our water actually helped us was the Chocolate Clam shells and carefully stacked them in a to-go box at my father’s request. I want to thank Cameron, Pablo, Jared, and everyone at the Top of the Market restaurant for making my mother’s 70th birthday one of the most memorable ones she has ever had. I definitely recommend this restaurant for a regular dinner but definitely would recommend this restaurant for special occasions. Call them ahead of time, and they will do whatever they can to accommodate any requests and will make sure your experience is a memorable one.

If you go to The Fish Market, ask for Leah. She's an outstanding waitress. When I went to this restaurant, 7/12/2020, it was outdoor dining only due to COVID19 mitigations. They did a wonderful job arranging the outdoor area next to the Bob Hope Memorial. There wasn't enough umbrellas to provide shade for the guests. They kept seating people at tables with no shade. The sun was brutal. Leadership forgot to treat people like they would want to be treated. The food was great thank goodness. It was painful to watch patrons endure the sun while eating.

There are good appetizers, then there are the top of the Market appetizers like no others. Then there’s a menu to match any palate better then the best in town.

We were with a group of 9 and service was spot on. Great wine selection but it was the seafood that stood out. I had the oysters and they were very fresh. The grilled sea bass was excellent. Best to go at sunset for the best views.

Fantastic seafood, great views of San Diego Bay. Downstairs is their raw bar, and the chef will cook you an amazing custom seal food dish while you watch. They also have a very nice sushi bar. On top of that there’s a fresh fish counter downstairs as well. We are lucky to live nearby, and dine here several times a year.

I had one of the best seafood meal in a while. Although the oysters has too strong of a sea flavour in my opinion other things we ordered was really amazing. Especially the Cioppino, it comes in the beautiful seafood soup with all the big delicious seafood, big alaskan crab leg, scallop, prawn, mussels. Peter was our server, he did a really good job. Especially when you don't have to queue like downstairs.

The atmosphere is calming. The service is professional and courteous. The food is excellent and delicious. Overall a fantastic experience. Definitely a must for seafood lovers. We had the beet salad and the lobster tail. Both amazing.

This is a great place to celebrate a special occasion! The service was great, the food was good and the ambiance was amazing. We sat outside at the fire pit table and thoroughly enjoyed our entire meal.

We had lunch at the Top of the Market after visiting the USS Midway. It is just a short walk from the ship. The food was great, the service was even better, and the view is lovely. The crab cakes were some of the best we had in San Diego. Overall, highly recommend this lovely restaurant.

It's expensive, but awesome bay views, elegant, excellent service & great food. Need I say more? OK: It's minutes from the airport so coming in or going out it's a perfect pitstop. Also, very close to the Gaslamp quarter (the party spot)

The meal was amazing. View of the bay was breathtaking. The service by Dylan B was great!!!! I highly recommend this restaurant

After we let the staff know that we were celebrating our Anniversary, they went to work. Even the menu was printed out with our Anniversary date, a souvenir menu! The service, the food and the view were all first class.

After we took the Midway Tour and stopped at the unconditional surrender statute, we had an early dinner at Top of the Market. The Tuna Crudo was fabulous with the Chili-lime vinaigrette complimenting the super-fresh tuna. The Salt Spring Black Mussels were plentiful and flavorful. The Grilled Spanish Octopus is the real deal, not breaded calamari. We had a fabulous view overlooking the water.

Was taken to this restaurant by a Supplier and it is a must go to in San Diego. We had the crab cakes for starter and the Halibut for a main course. Both were to die for. Lovely ambience and sea views set alongside one of USA aircraft carriers all lit up

We enjoyed our group lunch from start to finish. Excellent service, delicious food, wonderful view. Variety and quality of the lunch menu was great. Portions were appropriate. Great restaurant.

The atmosphere was very nice. It was six of us for a birthday party. We sat on the balcony over the water with a view of the sunset. The service was excellent. Our waitress was outstanding. The drinks were great and the food was delicious. Everyone we encountered were so pleasant and accommodating. I will definitely return even though the prices are much higher than the restaurant below. It is worth it.

We had an amazing evening at Top of the Market in San Diego. Our server, Steve, was outstanding—friendly, attentive, and made everything easy and enjoyable. I ordered the ½ crab legs with clam chowder and potatoes, and every bite was delicious! The crab legs were perfectly cooked and easy to eat, the chowder was rich and flavorful, and the potatoes were the perfect side. We stayed just long enough to catch the sunset—no green flash this time, but it was absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful views, excellent food, and fantastic service. A must-do San Diego dining experience! 🦀✨"

The crab cake appetizer was amazing. It must be 100% crab. The sauces were so yummy. Mains ere sea bass and it was cooked perfectly. So moist and flavourful. Excellent wine list and the waitress recommended a beautiful chardonnay from Russian River. Service was quite good. Great views.

After spending a few hours at the USS Midway Museum we were ready for lunch and went to the Top of the Market. It was a beautiful day, so we sat on the patio even though the view is actually better inside the restaurant. The service was top notch all the way through. Our server was polite and attentive and had an engaging personality that was not intrusive at all. My wife ordered the Lobster roll. While it claims to be "New England" style it has a bit of a California touch. This is not bad at all. She very much enjoyed it. It comes with choice of fries or salad and she got the fries. They are perfectly cooked and nicely seasoned. I ordered the fish and chips, The claw was ok, not great. The fries were very good, the same as my wife's. The fish was lightly battered and very tasty. The complimentary bread is served warm and is excellent as is the butter that is brought with it. The view of the bay is wonderful of course as boats, ships, and Naval aircraft come and go.

The view was nice. Our server was amazing. The caesar salad was very bland and didn't taste like a real caesar salad should. That was disappointing. The Cioppino was very good. The bread they serve is excellent. One of the cooks, had a very long beard and that didn't seem appropriate to have someone with a long and full beard to be cooking at a restaurant. Other than the salad, it was a very enjoyable and tasty experience.

We were in San Diego for a Business Convention and found Top of the Market through Trip Advisor. What makes this restaurant a stand out is not only it's exceptional food (many exceptional restaurants in San Diego!) and great service but the beautiful view! The Spanish Octopus was great as was the Shishito Peppers and Artisanal Salad. Most of us went for the special , Alaskan Halibut (very good). The Swordfish and Seared Scallops highly recommended. Another great benefit is that it's in a great location. Wonderful to be able to walk to and from your restaurant along the bay in beautiful San Diego! A great experience!

Was very excited to visit this restaurant, booked weeks in advance to get a table on the top deck reservation was for 7:45pm and after missing a ferry from Coronado I called to inform we would be a little late and spoke to the manager (British guy named Dan i Believe) to which was NO use at all, he was not accommodating or sympathetic at all and said he would only wait a MAX of 5 minutes when clearly we would not have made it on time. we lost our deposit although arriving at 8:30 with them refusing to sit us down and to be honest i found the manage Dan very rude and im surprised he is in such a role....

The food was great and the service was terrific. We were pampered by the staff as we celebrated our anniversary.

Eating outside overlooking the bay was relaxing! Our server was fantastic and helpful! The smoked fish appetizer was simply amazing! Definitely try the swordfish tacos as well and you won’t be disappointed! I’m glad we stumbled upon this gem

A great meal for a company event we had. The soup and halibut were on point. The meal took a long time because we bought out the space, everyone was great. The chicken curry skewer app was awesome. I would recommend for a big group dinner.

Nice place, refined but not demanding environment, top dinner, we came back because it's worth it, correct price

Our team dined at the Top of the Market in San Diego this week. Great food and the service was good. They charged a set up fee of $46 in addition to the 18% tip. There was no setup required. No restaurant has charged me this fee in the past. Talked to a manager about it without results or satisfactory explanation.

Whitout any doubt if you can spend a few $$$ this is a place you should go while visiting San Diego. The Octopus and the Squid pasta were spectacular. Service impeccable. Our server was fantastic. Had a great time am, everything was ready quick and will go back

They made my birthday dinner extra special from start to finish! The food was amazing my crab cakes were to die for and my lobster omg! I would definitely come back when I return to San Diego.

A wonderful dining experience in an upscale environment with beautiful views. Service was exceptional. Save room for the key lime pie!

Hade a great time at thr restaurant. Great birthday dinner with the husband. Drinks were awesome. Highly recommended

This is a fine dining seafood restaurant atop the Fish Market in downtown San Diego. It is located next to the USS midway, and there is a public parking lot with meters (3 hour max). Top of the Market affords great bay and sunset views. Wonderful service and delightful food. I loved the Hamachi crudo app, plus the key lime panna cotta desert, both of which were recommended by our waitress. A perfect setting for a memorable meal.

Lovely view and comfortable sitting in glassed area where view was great and protected from sun. Service was attentive. Crab cakes good, but had excess filler and mayo—presentation nice. Swordfish tacos OK, but I am always disappointed in the messiness of tacos—-not for fine dining. Fish and chips—fish a bit soggy, but fries excellent. This would not be a restaurant for someone who does not like fish. Very busy. I wonder if this would be assume if this restaurant were located in a less busy location. It was good, but I would likely not go back.

Food was wonderful, and service was friendly. Unfortunately, the servers insisted on clearing before the last person had finished their salad. To add insult to injury, the mains arrived while that person was still eating their salad. Apparently, relaxed dining is not a thing at this restaurant. They comped the desserts and salad, but that doesn’t help the person in our group who felt so rushed. We live two blocks away but feel this is no longer on our neighborhood dining list.

We were very satisfied with our meal . This is expensive restaurant, but worth it. This place stays busy for great reason. I will return when back in San Diego!

Went to the Top of the Market with friends. Markus, our waiter was extremely helpful when we were selecting our meals. The food was fresh, well prepared, and seasoned to our liking. Loved the place and will return the next time we're in San Diego.

We got a table next to the window at sunset - the restaurant overlooks the harbor. Being on the coast fresh seafood shouldn't be hard to get & it was excellent - much better than the Midwest where we hail from. Lastly, Brian, our server was truly a cut above the norm & we wanted to acknowledge that. He knew the menu inside & out, made great recommendations, and just made our experience that much more enjoyable. He had a young man working with him & we unfortunately have forgotten his name, but he was very personable as well. The menu is extensive, but if you enjoy seafood you will find multiple choices.

Fantastic food and ambiance! Wait staff was attentive and extremely friendly and helpful. The view from the terrace seating is spectacular.

I had dined here several years ago. This time I was depressed to see the place was so quiet and in fact, the entire area lacked the luster post covid. A staff told me they had a severe staff shortage and the restaurant was only functioning at 50%. The food was good and I am a fan of the cioppino.

We visit San Diego once every year or so, and we make it a point to have dinner here. I always have the Dungeness Crab Cioppino which is served in a bucket (practically) and is delicious. If you make a reservation, ask for a table with a view of the harbor. Even at night it's a lovely setting. This restaurant is above The Fish Market, a less expensive and more casual version of Top of the Market. The menu downstairs is similar and in some cases the items cost less.

Visited Top of the Market with friends on a business trip. Had a good meal and great advise from a very knowledgeable sommelier. We had 8pm reservations and were some of the last patrons finishing around 9:30 when some of the support staff “bus boys” started slamming shut windows banging down silverware etc. clearly they wanted us to leave. To bad such immature behavior. We took the hint and left. Plenty of other good restaurants in San Diego for our next trip.

An absolute gem! Our server Brian was beyond the best server we have ever had. We started off with the smoked fish sampler (it did not last long), cioppino (very generous in size) and swordfish. From the moment we walked in, it was A+ service. The view is one of the best in the city. A must-try! We can’t wait to come back.

After walking along the waterfront we ended up here for lunch. We’d been traveling all day and wanted a sit down meal. There is another restaurant downstairs, but the menu at this place looked better. We were seated promptly and even though we may have been underdressed we still received excellent service. The view of the harbor from our table was outstanding, especially as sailboats passed by. My husband had the lobster roll and I had the swordfish taco. It was absolutely the best fish taco I have ever had. The flavor was outstanding. Be sure to order the fries; they are fresh, crisp and fried to order. There’s a reason that this one of the top rated restaurants in the city. Given the flavors, the view, and the service that we received it was worth every penny.

The Top of the Market is very nice and we had the best view from our booth. The meals were fantastic as was the waitstaff. All in all, Outstanding location overlooking the bay with excellent meals.

I had eaten here once before, but this time was memorable. My wife and I went twice, once for an evening meal and once for lunch. The food and service both times were very good, and we plan on returning there to eat again when we are back in San Diego. Of the four highly recommended restaurants at which we dined in the San Diego area, we would rank this number 2 (behind the Marine Room in La Jolla). We especially enjoyed our lunch on the porch, which had a great view.

Had a delightful evening. Every dish was prepared just right. I had swordfish that was fresh, cooked to perfection with side dishes that were yummy. We were there during San Diego Food Week so our party was offered a prix fixe meal with wine, salad/appetizer, and entree. I would recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a special meal. And the service was attentive, not over-bearing.

We had reservations and were seated promptly, but the wait began once we were seated. The service throughout our evening was painfully slow. While the food was very good, the lack of service made the meal disappointing.

It took me almost all week in San Diego to find a restaurant which knew service and food quality but I finally found it. They offer the FUFU food, if you want it, or they can make any of your items as simple as you want them. I am a professional Food Service Consultant and just came from a 4 star restaurant in Quebec, Canada, and they couldn't do nearly as well as this location did. You will need a reservation and a great advantage they have is they have another Fish restaurant downstairs and they can get anything from their dessert menu as well. The Apple Crisp was a perfect ending to a great meal. From someone who is very hard to impress "WELL DONE "

This restaurant came highly recommended and one can see why! Our server ~ Cliff was amazing and friendly and informative. Sitting at the counter offered a bird's eye view of the cooks in action. We had the Alaskan Halibut and Spanish Turbot along with a crab cake, S'mores style dessert with a twist and key lime pie. All very delicious but the stars were the crab cake topped with fresh organic greens and mustard seeds followed by the halibut and turbot each cooked to perfection! The chefs explained to us their methods and were open to questions thus we were educated as well as having eaten 5 star food fresh from local waters for most all the dishes. The desserts were a nice surprise nicely done and not too big as many are often too small or way too big! Combine this with the impeccable service from Cliff and the friendly chefs and you have a "wow" experience!

There was a large group of us, so I had the opportunity to sample a wide selection of fresh seafood. I have to say that it was all good, so it’s hard to pick a favorite. The Octopus appetizer was one of the favorites, and the Halibut and the Dungeness Crab were the top choice entrees. Good wine selections and great service, all with a great view of the bay.

Took my wife here for her birthday, expecting great food to go along with incredible view of the bay. While the view is definitely great, the food and service were average at best, which is troubling given the cost. Definitely not a good value. Would never recommend this restoring anyone.

My friend and I ate at the restaurant after arriving from Europe earlier in the day. We were tired and jet lagged. The taxi driver who took us there told us to sit at the bar and that was very good advice. It isn't a drinks bar, but a counter in front of where all the chefs are working so you can see all the food being prepared. The chefs will also chat away to you while they work. If you are lucky, you might get extras if they have made too much of something. I had the pacific swordfish and it was fantastic. My friend had one of the days specials that was a largish one-person tureen with lots of different sea food in a tomato sauce; he was a very happy man. I would strongly recommend this place, we completely forgot we had jetlag!

Left the booking to the wife, as we were scrambling for somewhere to eat for a party of 10. Thought we booked the top floor restaurant of the ‘Top of the Market’ (the posh one with a fire pit table), she actually booked the main restaurant on the ground floor with the more regular folks......ironically the food and service worked both floors......and our bill was super reasonable. Portions were good, food was great and service was excellent. Yes all fish, but all excellent quality - the sword fish steaks were awesome and the tiramisu was delicious! View of the bay and boats and ships in the bay would be awesome in the day, but we were there 7pm - nighttime :( All in great place to visit and plenty of cheap parking right outside.

This restaurant had great views but they would not seat me at a view table because I was alone -- even though it was after 2pm. I noticed that the table I wanted was never used. No one ever sat there. The crab was shredded and not recognizable as crab. Parking was expensive. I remember this place from 15 years ago, but now I would never return.

Looking for a night out with some great seafood nice place and pleasant ambience, but we were disappointed with the main course.

Wow the service and the food are amazing! Suzanne the front of house made us feel special and welcome. Jonas are server was spectacular! Alfonso was so talented. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday. The menu had a special message for him. We asked for recommendations from Jonas and every one of his recommendations were terrific. The meal was the best we had on our visit to San Diego.

Great meal! Lots of seafood choices, great service, and good food made for a very enjoyable dining experience. Big property gives lots of seating environments to choose from. Patio, bar, interior, roof desk, etc.

We were just out enjoying the day and decided to pop in and see what they might have for lunch. Sure glad we did! Got a lovely table overlooking the bay and had a great lunch of fresh seafood and free entertainment from a passing party boat! 😆

We came for a lunch meeting and I generally have my main meal at lunch. This was a perfect setting with one problem. The food, service and ambience was all 5 star. We had the lobster tails in a booth overlooking the ocean and the Midway next door. Great in all respects. The only problem was the parking. Hopes what a mess. Once you find a spot or pay $10 for valet. It’s all good. We will be back for sure Next to the navy Fleet Museum and statue.

High class restaurant with superb service and delicious food. Excellent wine list. The fish is delicious. We had a beautiful table with a view of the USS Midway. Thanks to all. We loved it!

We ate at Top of the Market one night whilst attending a conference in the city. Everything was really excellent, from the welcome, attentive table service and atmosphere - formal but not too much! The menu was amazing, too many fantastic choices but in the end I chose the John Dory main course which was beautifully cooked and served. Other options were scallops, lobster linguine and the mixed fish stew. Everything so advertising and generous portions. We chose a bottle of New Zealand sauvignin blanc and the prices were very reasonable. Overall, a fabulous meal and definitely recommended for seafood lovers. Great location and views, book for sunset!

Stopped in for a late lunch. Wonderful service. Great food. Enjoyed the Swordfish tacos, Artisanal Greens and Almond Brown Butter Cake. Highly recommended.

I recommend ya all to go best service bartender is super food is good and view is spectacular either lunch or dinner is fabulous

During our stay in San Diego, we viewed the restaurant reviews on Trip Advisor and settled on the "Top of the Market" for one of our dinner choices. Although the name of the restaurant could leave one with the impression that it is located on top of a tall building, such is not the case! The restaurant is merely above a fish market but its location is such that it affords a diner great water views and a breathtaking view of the USS Midway! If you elect to visit this excellent restaurant, stop first at its bar - terrific cocktails with a friendly bartending staff. For dining choices we opted for the sole and it was one of the best fish meals we have ever had. The presentation was excellent and it only added to the views we had of the harbor and the Midway. Try it and I think you will agree that the Top of the Market is a go to choice when visiting San Diego.

I planned my visit so that I would see the sunset. I had a table for one on the west patio which was all windows. I could see the bow of the USS Midway from my table. The wait staff was very efficient and attentive. Even though it's advertised as a place to get Seafood I got a filet mignon with asparagus and mashed potatoes. For dessert I had the key lime pie. All done perfectly. I would go back.

We stopped in after the USS Midway. We had drinks and snacks on the happy hour menu. Sean was wonderful! He gave us suggestions of places to go and was very interactive. Great bartender and great place!!

Top notch restaurant with beautiful views. We had a large table for 12 and food and service was impeccable. Had large seafood platter as appetizer which we all liked. I had the halibut with risotto which was delicious. Cioppino that associate had looked amazing. All portions were large, which surprised me.

Great location, Great Ambience, Great service, Great food. Cioppino is Outstanding. Enough said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??

We had outstanding service at the restaurant. Unfortunately, the food was not good. I read reviews prior to making the reservation. I typically don’t write negative reviews but be warned. The great service and beautiful views aren’t enough to compensate for the awful food. Sorry.

Wonderful meal this evening. Thank you to our server Campos for his recommendations and excellent service. A fantastic view and excellent food. Great experience, highly recommend!

We were close to 40 people for dinner , service was timed perfect, food as expected , no big surprises. BTW good bar I will be back

My husband and I had dinner here last weekend and really loved it! We sat on the patio and watched the sunset and boats going by. The service is exceptional! Our server Christian, was probably one of the best waiters we have ever had. He was attentive, informative, and really made our evening special. The food quality was amazing and we really enjoyed the attention to detail. We always Uber to dinner, so parking was not an issue. I would highly recommend!

The menu offered variety. Each of us had a different entree and each was excellent. The wine selections are good and not overpriced, given the location. The bar has a number of top shelf whiskies for after dinner drinks. And the harbor/bay views at sunset are fabulous.

Booked dinner there to celebrate my 25th Wedding Anniversary and was not disappointed. Really friendly greeters and staff throughout. We selected a beautiful table outside and enjoyed fresh fare which was delicious. Everything we ate and drank was top notch and worth every penny. Will certainly make this a regular place for treats.

We visit Top of the Market Restaurant annually when in San Diego for a conference. The food is very good. I will say that I think the experience is best for those who truly enjoy fish/seafood. There is a steak on the menu, but I wouldn’t say it is a great steak—a little tough/chewy and not as flavorful as many I have had, in my opinion. My husband loves the fish entrees he’s eaten there (menu changes—e.g., last year he chose turbot and this year he chose halibut). Atmosphere and service is excellent. Harbor views. We would definitely return.

Four of us were at the fish market for dinner yesterday. It was a delightful evening, with view of the coast and a noisy pleasant atmosphere. Foodwise, it was all very fresh. We had crab and prawn salad and a wonderful rendition of oyster rockefeller. For mains, we had swordfish, butterfish and halibut - all beautifully cooked. But not fine dining. Priced on the high end.

The only reason this isn’t a 5 is because the decor isn’t super updated. The food, service, location, and view were all top notch. We love here in SD and decided to go somewhere different for date night. We knew the view of the harbor and North Island would be beautiful, but we were surprised by the quality and value of the food. The crab cakes and salmon with gnocchi were fantastic! Our server Jared was very attentive, while not trying to rush us. And then there’s always the sunset...😍. We would highly recommend this establishment!

Went there for my sister's 85th birthday dinner. They treated her (and us ) like royalty. The menu was appealing to any taste and my sister's menu was printed up for her with her name in large letters on all of our menu headings! I had a pork cut with bone in and it was excellent. My wife had a halibut dish that was right up there with her best ever. One of our party had a beef cut that was the best he had ever had. Interestingly enough, the carrot cake desert was not the best, but was OK. ( it's hard to beat Costco's carrot cake). Service was exceptional. Definitely a go to place for special occasions.

We had a blast on a rainy day in San Diego. After we left the USS Midway (just “around the corner”) we found this restaurant and had one of the most amazing meals we had in our entire trip. Staff was great and extremely professional. Best fish and chips I ever had and also the best dessert I’ve had in my life! Just 5⭐️! Amazing! Thanks for the memorable good bye lunch! What a great way to remember San Diego!

Had a real treat coming here for a seafood fine dining experience. Dinner was excellent and the service professional and friendly. Highly recommend. Not cheap but worth it.

The restaurant is located on the bay, next to the Nimitz aircraft carrier, now a museum. If you are lucky you might get a window table with a great view. Tables back from the windows have okay views, but not as good. The trick is to reserve early and mention a special occasion with your reservation. The restaurant is on the second floor of the Fish Market restaurant, which also sports a fish market. The menu at the "TOM" is not as extensive as the one on the ground floor and the prices are significantly higher. There are a number of choices, but if you are going for the value and selection rather than the ambiance, go to the "FM" below. Having said that, the Top is much more attractive and the service better. Our server was a professional and delivered first class service throughout our meal. We were celebrating my son and his wife's anniversary and they gave us a tiny complimentary dessert, one teaspoon's worth for each of the four of us. Pretty cheap I thought after an expensive meal.

We had a group of 12 for dinner. Had to sign a contract for minimum $2,000 plus tip and taxes. I usually shy away from contracts for dinner since all you are getting is a nicer view room and some privacy. But, the food was good. Appetizers nice and of good quality. Everyone was happy with their meal. Just one minor thing. I ordered the Wagyu steak and lobster. Wagyu is supposed to be tender. But, they used sirloin cuts vs a filet and it was, quite frankly, tough. Sad but true. So, if you are going to advertise Wagyu Japanese steak as a big deal, they why not use the filet vs a sirloin for tenderness? At about $65, I expected more. Had surf and turf at the Brigantine for less money and the filet was astounding. Anyway, the folks that ate all enjoyed their entrees. I understand the contract but in many cases it winds up being more money vs what you are actually served. If I went back, it would be in a smaller group to avoid a contract. Oh, and they took at $250 deposit, just so you know. May not matter to some, just informational for a larger group.

Food was excellent, but the evening was entirely ruined because the person clearing tables cleared ours before everyone was finished. This is very rude in that it makes the slower person feel rushed. Although we dine here regularly, I think we’ll give it a pass for a while.

Classic bar - tables overlooking the harbor. I had the seared Ahi Tuna --- with black eyed pears and green beans + wasabi .Service was 5 Star.. A must do!!!

Friendly staff and nice restaurant but it was expensive for what ended up being OK food. It's pricey, would definitely not go back.

We have now celebrated 41 wedding anniversaries in pretty amazing restaurants all over the country and in many different locations in the world. But this experience was extraordinary. When they heard it was our wedding anniversary they immediately seated us at one of the best tables in the restaurant, where we would have a great view of the sunset over the San Diego bay. They presented us with a menu that said Happy Anniversary at the top of the menu, and they informed the entire wait staff, including the girl bussing tables that it was our anniversary. From that point on, including the free dessert with the delicious chocolate sign wishing us a happy anniversary, they did whatever they could to make our evening special. The food was incredible. We had the sea scallops (which were the best and most plentiful serving of sea scallops I have had in like 15 years - since our trip to Nova Scotia and the Bay of Fundi). Scallops were large, sweet and I likely had 8-10 on my plate. My husband had the King Crab which they had scored so it was easy to eat, and it was delicious. All in all I would have to rave about this restaurant, the food, the service and the extra steps they took to make a special evening special.

I booked the Top of The Market to celebrate my parents 60th Wedding Anniversary. From the moment we arrived the service was 1st class. The menu had a ‘Happy Anniversary’ heading which was a simple but elegant touch. Our server was exceptional, upon choosing the wine she stated that it was a very dry wine and gave a suggestion that actually turned out to be cheaper, it was an Austin Hope and perfect. The Clam Chowder was fantastic and the Crab cakes were the most delicate and flavoursome I have every eaten. The mains were cooked to perfection. Expect to pay around $80-120 per head which is not cheap but it is good value when the service and food quality are considered

My husband and I were in San Diego celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary. Top of the Market was wonderful. We were seated out on the terrace to watch the gorgeous sunset. We were also given complimentary champagne for our celebration. Our server, Diane, was so awesome to us. She was very attentive and friendly. We had a great time talking with her. Our food was great as well! The whole experience was 5 star!

Four of us had a wonderful dinner here when visiting for a conference. We had a table by the water and everything was delicious, a truly exceptional dining experience. A truly memorable night.

Met a friend her - great view, attendant server (but not intrusive) and great seafood. I had the octopus salad, which I can't recommend highly enough. She had the sword fish - which she loved. We finished it off with a key lime panna cotta - amazing! The parking is an issue so uber/lyft if you can - you'll be time and money ahead. makea reservations. The place could use a refresh but overall a great experience.

All six of us enjoyed our meals and the wines were great too. Excellent service and fabulous atmosphere. The views of the bay are ideal for this restaurant setting. Right next to the Midway aircraft carrier. This is predominately a seafood restaurant and the seafood was excellent.

The quality of the cuisine is FINE DINING, but the scrimped on staff education is only MEDIOCRE DINING. The chefs delight with incredible creations of top quality ingredients. This is one of my favorite places and is really outstanding. Their fish is so fresh and perfectly prepared with imaginative and very delicious garnishes. I do wish their servers were better trained to reflect the quality. Not replacing used utensils after each course is a HUGE knock down in my book, ESPECIALLY when the used utensils are left on the plate to be removed. Also telling the patron to let them know when enough pepper has been ground over the salad then abruptly moving on after a few twists without giving the patron the option of more just shows additional lack of education of the staff, And utensils dropped on the floor should be immediately replaced, I shouldn't have to ask for them AFTER my meal arrives. It doesn't take that much time to do a staff inservice on fine dining server skills and would add a great deal to the dining experience. Giving the entire package of fine dining instead of feeling like I am getting a great meal at Denny's would go further. I still love this place and will keep eating here but I look forward to witnessing improvements with the staff.

We enjoyed a smoked fish sampler to start, sharing it amongst 4 people: it was excellent. For mains, we had cod, halibut, and tuna, all were pronounced excellent. One regret: no room for dessert! The service was excellent: friendly, helpful, efficient. Excellent view on to the harbour for watching ships.

We always look forward to eating here. Excellent service, delicious lunch: octopus appetizer & crab cakes were superb! Plus it is so lovely to look over the harbour, watching all the boat traffic.

The place is very cozy, and the seafood is fresh and full of flavor. Try their Oysters and Cioppino. For a better experience I recommend sharing ;)

Menu could offer a bit more. Server named Mason extremely arrogant tried to tell us what nutrient we should order additional to our meal, don’t come to dinner to be instructed by a waiter on how I should eat. He also talked on and on, please tell me the specials, if I want more info I will ask. Halibut was very good.

One of our favorites for a fine dining experience. Nice place for a romantic dinner. Service is excellent.

Came here on the advice of our Lyft driver we sat upstairs overlooking the water and was pleasantly surprised we really enjoyed the crabcakes and a bowl of clam chowder everything was five star highly recommend this place if you’re in San Diego

Good view of the harbor. We dined in a nice, quiet environment, in a room off to the side. Service was timely and thorough. The dishes we had were deftly crafted, sophisticated, and delicious. The sea scallops were A-grade and the plate had excellent accompaniments, including a great sauce. The salmon dish was also excellent. We think that this place ought to be rated much higher than the level it is currently at. Highly recommended!

We had a most pleasant evening here. From our table we were able to watch the sun set over the harbor and we could see the USS Midway. Wait person was attentive and let us split salads and entrees...and she brought them on two plates, attractively presented, so we did;t have to split at the table. Clam chowder was a bit thick and pasty, but fish was excellent. Also a nice wine list.

Setting and seating excellent right on the water and adjacent to the USS Midway - wonderful water view at night - we were 15 min late but called and they happily held our table. Food was delicious. Had crab cakes which was just right having arrived from the east coast and didn’t need heavy food after a long travel day. At the end of our meal, we had ringside seats for fireworks in the aircraft carrier next to us ( a private celebration). Would give 5 stars but the wait staff was very slow at the beginning with all the early stuff that should be clockwork. And they were out of beets dish and sea bass. Would go there again.

PEI Oysters were fresh, Caesar Salad almost perfect, (i have a very high standard from the Grant Grill 1971 made table side), Alaskan Halibut and Faroe Inland Salmon, were perfect i especially liked the beet risotto. Snap peas and carrots didn't quit run up our motor, but the VALHRONA CHOCOLATE SEMIFREDDO for desert was over the top ice cream in a dark chocolate ball. MAISON ROCHE DE BELLENE, VIEILLES VIGNES 2017 well worth a try.

Besides beautiful view on protected deck, we dined on an exquisite swordfish, prepared perfectly! Great salmon and pork up too! Desserts were perfectly prepared in taste and presentation! Wonderful birthday dinner!

Top of the Market was was excellent. The crab cake was perfect and the portion was large enough to share. The view of the ocean and sunset was incredible. A lovely place to celebrate any occasion.

This is a top notch, wonderful restaurant. It is quieter than it's sister restaurant downstairs and has wonderful harbor views. We so enjoyed the turbot and their Caesar salad was perfect, a great balance of dressing and cheese. I must admit we managed to share the carrot cake and the key lime pie (four of us); super. Best seafood.

As most have said, this restaurant has a wonderful location with wonderful views. It is considered fine dining and tables are set as such. However, we ended up sitting in a small area which was extremely noisy. They were only three tables. Had we known we probably would’ve asked to be reseated, since it was still quite early. That being said, we did order our meal and our waitress seem to be quite forgetful. I ordered the scallops and my friend the halibut. We both ordered salads and I have provided pictures. Although our dinner was good, I just did not have the sense that I was experiencing fine dining. Good but not exceptional. I would also add that this restaurant is pricey, à la cart.

Love the fresh seafood here, we sat outside and watched the sun set, gorgeous views. Food is fantastic as well!

Though we get to SD a lot my wife and I hadnt been to Top of the Market for years. Next time we wont wait so long. We had a long and lovely European style lunch. Couple of Bloody Mary's to start and then good and reasonably priced wine ($48) with lunch. Shared the smoked fish plate to start. 4-5 different fishes. All delicious. My wife had the artisanal salad and I had the New England Clam chowder. Both hits. Really liked the chowder. Then a large serving of fish and chips and fish tacos. Probably more food than we needed but everything was terrific. Chris our server was great. Friendly, helpful and didnt rush us. $151 for everything. Not the cheapest of lunches but worth the splurge

We tried a variety of the seafood dishes, all were first rate and interesting preparations. The prawns and tuna crudo were perfect starters. Also enjoyed the caesar salad with anchovies. Both the ahiand swordfish were cooked perfectly. Hard to find a restaurant with such great food and a fabulous view.

My final night in San Diego was a Sunday so I went to the top, literally, at Top of the Market. My table featured a lovely view, though the sunlight was waning and some clouds had moved in but it was great. I was a solo diner and enjoyed watching the whole atmosphere in this warm and inviting place. I got the bread basket and enjoyed two excellent breads. The Grilled Octopus salad featured a spectacularly succulent octopus--cut and ate like butter--in a nice salad that included some olive tapenade. My entree choice was difficult but the Alaskan Halibut I got was lovely--it was so tender and flaky it was hard to get a big bite onto the fork! The accompany potatoes and the mustard beurre blanc made for one great bite after the next. I splurged on dessert with a great Valhrona Chocolate Semifreddo. The bottom of it was quite thick and I could not get into it until it thawed but the whole thing was wonderful. Highly recommended!

Amazing fresh fish and soups. Great ocean views. Awesome service. This is a great place. It is on the bigger sides. Make reservations. It can be a bit noisy, but the food is awesome. Service was fast and courteous. This is a wonderful restaurant and I am thankful for my friend taking me there and introducing me this seafood delight !!!!

Top of the market has high quality food, a great wine selection and a top notch wait staff. Our meals were very good and our waiter was helpful in helping us make the right choices,

We went to Top of the Market for my birthday dinner. Everything was perfect right from the get go! I received multiple birthday greetings from the staff including the personalized "Happy Birthday" menu. We were seated next to an open window overlooking the ocean with views of the harbor and the city lights. It was beautiful and hearing the lapping water was very relaxing. Our server was friendly, attentive, helpful and accommodating. We started off with a smoked fish appetizer that was delicious and some lovely oysters on the half shell. For our main course, I enjoyed the king crab legs and my companion had the halibut. Both were sensational. We finished off with a complimentary birthday dessert and a slice of the peach cheesecake. Everything was wonderful and paced perfectly. We will definitely be going there again. The only downside was the parking. The restaurant parking is shared by some other attractions; thus, it can be very difficult to find parking. We used the valet which was also quite crowded. Nonetheless, our meal could not have been better.

Can be pricey if you explore the wine list but otherwise good value and properly cooked food in a largely italian style.

Disappointed. My husband and I dined here for our anniversary. After being seated and given menus, the waitress did not return for 10 minutes. There were maybe 8 other tables max and also other servers, so the restaurant was not that busy. We ordered the tuna crudo as an appetizer and it was quite spicy which masked the flavor of the tuna. We had the bread basket too,, which is not worth $5 and should be provided for free as a part of the dining experience. I had the market salad which was overly dressed so that I only tasted the vinaigrette. My main course was the east coast scallops. The scallops themselves were ok, but everything else on the plate tasted terrible. Service between all courses was extremely slow. I had to ask for a water refill three times. The view is nice, but the whole interior looks like it was last redone in 1994. I'll spend my hard earned money elsewhere, thanks.

Wife and I went for our anniversary. My first time to Top of the Market as we usually go to the main restaurant downstairs, The Fish Market. Top of the Market had top notch service, excellent food, and a great view of the bay. We will return again!

A fantastic location with a great view! Wine list was outstanding and our smoked fish appetizer was fantastic! Our group enjoyed halibut, lobster bisque, and the scallops. One of the halibut steaks was overdone but everything else was delicious. The dessert menu varied from rich to light and we enjoyed the gelato, key lime pie and hazelnut chocolate cake. I would dine here again.

One server and more than 10 tables or so. I was embarrassed in front of my clients. i DONT SEE IT as the server fault as I see it more as mgmt issue. Food didnt come at the same time and we constantly has to chase the server for forks, ordering wine and etc...

I am here in San Diego for a week long convention. Four couples went Monday night and we all enjoyed our dinner very much. The service was excellent as was all the dishes, especially the fish dishes. There is also a very good wine list. The restaurant is attractive and comfortable. I returned with my wife and another couple on Thursday night and we all again enjoyed our dinner. This time I tried the cioppino and it was average. While the broth was good, The mussels were very small and tasteless and the remaining seafood in the dish was just okay. Overall, we all enjoyed the restaurant very much & would return

Although we have visited the San Diego Area dozens of times, over the past 39 years of our marriage, this was our first visit, but won't be our last. Exceptional food, service and ambiance. Restaurant was started decades ago buy a group of deep sea fishermen. Naturally know their seafood and it shows. It was my Husband's 70th Birthday and he chose this restaurant, on a Birthday trip to Downtown San Diego. Staff went over and above expectations with personalized Birthday Menu and Birthday Card. It was his 70th Birthday and it was his first experience with fresh Crab Legs. He loved them and the Kitchens preparation, ensured they stayed warm in the evening S.D.Bay air. We were seated on a patio, with clear vinyl drape. If you're a Sefood & Steak lover, don't miss this jewel.

Visited tonight for our wedding anniversary. We were asked in advance if it was a special occasion, so we let them know but there wasn’t any mention of it during our service. Service was generally good and friendly but our server made some basic mistakes. No claw cracker with our crab and then no knives with our cheese board. We had to chase and ask for them. Wine range was extensive and fairly reasonably priced. Clam chowder and oysters were nice appetisers. Kids pasta, swordfish and Dungeness crab were all tasty too. A nice evening but could have been 5* if it improved in a few small areas and it’s quite a pricey place so needs to reflect the prices with their standards.

Above the crowded and noisy The Fish Market is an oasis of calm, upscale dining that is outstanding in every way. The food is gourmet - one of the best meals I’ve ever had (heirloom tomatoes/ crab cakes/ halibut). The dining room is sleek and upscale. The views of the harbor are beautiful- the sunset is amazing.

Not a fan. Service very slow, food not so wonderful. Asked for the outdoor heaters and were told they did not work. Salad over saturated with dressing and salad meant lettuce with a few cucumbers on it, nothing else. Expensive for what you got. I would say a tourist trap. Only positive, the view.

First, the location and view of the harbor makes a dining visit worth the effort. Parking will cost and can be difficult since some spaces are reserved and the restaurant is next to the Midway Museum. We were running a little late so we valet parked ($10). We were seated on the enclosed patio so the view was great but the table for two was small. They printed the menu with a Happy Anniversary heading (nice). I started with an excellent Manhattan and my wife had "Red Smoke" a craft cocktail she enjoyed. Our server Campos was helpful and friendly. We began with Lobster Bisque and a Caesar salad. The salad was good but it did not taste like a Caesar should. The Bisque was average at best. My wife ordered the outstanding Crab Cioppino. It was full of great seafood , linguine and a superb sauce. I had the grilled swordfish and the fish was very good but I did not care for the pickled mustard seed that covered the fish nor the confit Cipollini. We were given a special and tasty desert a gift the the restaurant. A nice evening.

Sunday night dinner upstairs was the best as usual. A couple of drinks before dinner and we were seated with a great bay and Midway view. Great sunset and lobster dinner. Campos our server was very attentive and informative. Not too expensive and good portions. Key lime desert. All good

Highly recommended. Good range of choices - vegetarian, seafood, and meat. Nice views and venue; good service.

The Ahi carpaccio was Very good in terms of flavor. The presentation was wonderful. There were a couple of little chewy slices, that make the dish a four instead of a five. Overall, it was really beautifully flavored, and, again the presentation was excellent. Without those couple of chewy bites, it would’ve been almost a perfect dish. And, it was priced correctly at $22. The Caesar salad was actually quite large for $13. This was also a four instead of a five. I loved the extra anchovies, and I loved the dressings, but the croutons were just… So underwhelming. It’s like they just were little bits of bread, barely toasted. So odd when the rest of the salad was excellent in terms of flavor. I love it when the lettuce is a little bit charred. This would’ve been a very special dish as well, but they need to “up” the crouton game. The crispy potatoes also had a flaw. The sauce that came with them was amazing, and he gave me extra aïoli, because I could’ve bathed in it. But the crispy potatoes were not, in fact, not… Crispy. I had a couple that were as crispy as they need to be, but the rest were simply boiled/baked potatoes. Really crisp them up next time if they’re called crispy potatoes. I could easily cut them with a spoon, no crispy crunch at all, except one or two. But again, that aïoli was so good. This was priced correctly as well at $11, as I received quite a few potatoes! Finally, the price for the Chandon glass of bubbly, at $14 a glass, was quite good as well. The service, was exceptional. It was both unobtrusive and attentive. Both the server, Kayla, and (what I assume was a manager) came to check on me. None of it seemed intrusive. It all seemed Perfectly timed. When I needed a second glass of champagne, Kayla was there. The person I assumed was the manager was quick to bring me a box of leftovers and the extra aïoli. I really liked the sound of one of the drinks that had some peach nectar in it and a little bit of elderflower syrup, but really, I just wanted a splash of pink nectar in my champagne glass. So Kayla brought that. And, appropriately, she did not charge me for that little splash. She shouldn’t have charged me, and she did not. And that was a mark of excellent service as well. This experience would’ve been five stars, if you can up the crouton game, crisp the potatoes a little bit more, and make sure that every bite of the Asahi is nice and malleable.

Truly don't think we could have had a better experience celebrating my wife's big 7.0 birthday. From the service to the room provided, and from the food itself, all exceeding expectations. The meals and apps were all exceptional with the assortment being a few halibut's, a swordfish, a chicken and cioppino meals that were all outstanding in taste and presentation. I will add the crab cakes were the very best I've ever had. We live about 90 miles away, but I know we will be going back to this restaurant sometime down the road. Thanks to Ivan and Jonathan, both were exceptional providing first class courtesy and service!!

We had a late lunch there on a sunny/breezy day. Views from the glassed in patio were great, with sailboats and the USS Midway not far away. Service was outstanding and the food was excellent. Nice wine list as well, good variety and prices.

Damien was our waiter and his advice to try the octopus was perfect. It was excellent. We were also delighted with the halibut and the swordfish. We couldn't have been more pleased with our entire experience.

Wonderful experience. We chose to have dinner early as we had been busy all day so the restaurant was not busy but it soon filled up. We had excellent, attentive service, really good food and wine. We were seated at the window and had a fabulous view of the harbour. Highly recommended

We had a fabulous last night meal here. The food was some of the best we had all trip and the service outstanding. The view over the water and sunset made this really memorable. The restaurant wasn’t very busy which I don’t understand as this is a great place.

We ate at this restaurant for my birthday. As soon as we arrived they handed us menus which said happy birthday and my age which was a wonderful touch. The waitress and the other staff were very good in helping us select what to order. The food was excellent. We will return.

We ate on the outside porch area so we had an excellent view of the bay and Midway Museum. The food here is delicious and prices are reasonable for the quality and portions. Everything is top notch, excellent attention from all the staff. Sergio was our waiter-friendly and most helpful. We will definitely come again.

Quite simply amazing creations! Adding to it the water view, you're left with an excellent quality time. Follow the suggestions, they know what good is to try if you're hesitant. Everything we had was mouthful and tasty. A bit pricey when you add wines to meals. I suppose the rent must have gotten more expensive.

My first time in San Diego & my first experience with fresh sea bass & halibut. It was perfect. What a fun atmosphere. You must try this place.

My wife and I arrived at our dinner at Top of the Market for the only romantic dinner of our trip. The staff was going to originally seat us in the dining room but I asked, if possible if we could sit out on the terrace which has amazing views of the Harbor and the Theodore Roosevelt which is stationed across the way. We volunteered to wait for a bit at the bar and grab a glass of champagne and had just ordered it when the hostess came up and asked us to follow her. They were able to create space for us, a table for two, right on the edge looking out into the harbor. It was amazing. The food was unbelievable and the service impeccable. It made for a great romantic night. Thanks again!

This place was mind-blowing sitting out on the patio looking out on to beautiful scenery topped off by amazing food and such a nice ambience. In addition to that shortly after our dinner was finished the harbor was lighting off fireworks and it was incredible. The server was amazing and he knew the menu inside and out and had fabulous recommendations. I highly recommend you check this place out.

Had dinner here to celebrate a birthday. We were handed a menu that said Happy Birthday across the top, very nice. Brian was our server, and was top notch. The salad and crab cake were delicious, as was the chocolate hazelnut dessert. The turbot was kind of bland and dry around the edges. Overall a very nice evening out.

We have traveled a good bit this year (Florida, Hawaii, New England), and this restaurant was by far the best meal we have had. The setting is a "10" - overlooking San Diego Harbor. Service included customized just for us meal and wine suggestions. And the food was worth the high price.

We had crab cakes, ribeye, prawns and the cioppino and it was amazing! The crab Louiesalad was so excellent - that was my favorite of all!!! Service was superb and the view from the outdoor seating is breathtaking.

Our waiter was excellent and service was lovely. We were greeted and helped right away. We sat outside as you come in and had a nice table directly looking out. The sunset was beautiful and the sun felt great (def take something to wear that is warm once the sun sets- i took a wool shawl which was perfect for summer). Our food was good and the drinks were fine. We had the almond cake also which was lovely. We would easily return for the ambiance and service <3 enjoy!!

I reserved this for a business meeting, and originally thought patio would be nice - but it wasn't conducive to talking so we opted inside, and they provided a great table in a private room, And superb wait staff! Seriously. he was amazing! Consciencious, helpful but not intrusive. Food was superb, and seafood very fresh! Thanks for a great evening!

This restaurant was recommended by several guides in San Diego and they were right about it being good. Service was excellent, the menu is filled with lots of options that are excellent. Fresh seafood, well prepared and priced as expected. The site also sells locally sourced seafood for sale in the market . Reservations are a good idea but, not required . Truly, some of the best.

My husband and I decided to have dinner at TOM after going to the theater downtown. We made reservations for 6pm on a Sunday and were great full for the valet. Parking is a public lot so you are competing with people going to the Midway our other parts of the waterfront. Appetizers, bread with pesto were all delicious. Both our entrees, the swordfish and linguini with lobster were a bit under seasoned. The deserts were great though and service attentive and friendly.

Apparently I made a reservation for the restaurant downstairs online in error and when we arrived at Top Of The Market they acted like they were so full but made accommodations for us but in reality they were not busy, however we waited 10 minutes after we were seated before we were even acknowledged. Our waitress was Ciaran and she was apparently working in another part of the restaurant as we would go periods of time without seeing her but again restaurant was not busy. We asked about the lobster since it was local and she described it to us and when we ordered it a few minutes later she said they were out of it (as a server, shouldn’t you know that) we were highly disappointed but “props” to Ciaran she went downstairs and secured one for us, we also ordered salmon which was very good. For an appetizer we had oysters which were ridiculous, 3 of them were small and the other 3 we needed binoculars to see. I don’t even know what to say about the dessert menu, nothing interesting at all. Both my husband and I said it was our Anniversary when we arrived and when we were seated and after we received our bill and after we watched the couple across from us receive complimentary bubbles AND a cupcake for her Birthday week I asked do you not do anything for Anniversaries and out server said she wasn’t informed it was our Anniversary “would you like some bubbles”, REALLY!? Yes please. We didn’t get a cupcake. One last thing which was the worst, we sat there for 15 minutes with a full table of finished plates and no one cleared the table. We chose this restaurant for our special Anniversary from reviews and they fell extremely short of any expectations we had.

We've eaten here twice (1 year apart) and enjoyed the restaurant both times. It is the only restaurant in the area (that I've found) with abalone (worth a try...even at this price). It is not our favorite in the area, but don't be put off by the location (touristy location), it was very good (and a nice view).

Top of the Market was recommended when we checked into our hotel and it was the best meal and was the best dinner we had in San Diego . Erin our server was outstanding , her recommendation and detailed descriptions of our choices were spot on. Great sunset and view of the bay from the glassed in terrace. Hamachi Crudo was the best I’ve had and entrees of halibut and turbot were cooked perfectly. We didn’t have much room for desert but Erin described the panna cotta and was a perfect end to a memorable dinner.

If you can get a table with the views, then it's a wonderful spot to sit and relax. I personally struggled with the menu as I do not eat seafood, so I think there were only two options available for me. The food was ok, cesar salad, although I am told by my fellow dinners that the seafood was nice. The service was slow, which is understandable given it's a big restaurant. Things arrived at different times, sides were not called off with Mains for example, and we started ordering drinks in multiples of two as they took so long to arrive. Great venue, lovelly environment, ok food, but allow yourself plenty of time.

We had a delicious dinner and a splendid dining experience at the chef’s table. Quite by accident we got a place at the chef’s table tonight. The crab cakes were perfectly delicious and it was so much fun to watch how they are prepared. The Dover sole was the best we have ever had. This restaurant was excellent and I just hope you all accidentally find your way to the chef’s table. Great show guys!!!!

We went here for my birthday and the menu had printed in it Happy birthday and I got a special dessert! The masqest bbq lobster soo good! Very classy and our waiter was impeccable! Highly recommend!

The appetizers (oysters and crab cakes) was so yummy. The scallops were to die for.. the tacos was just ok for me. My boss ordered the tacos and I had a taste. He also had some of my scallops. He also agrees the scallops were the best we’re both had in a while. The drinks was ok. The waiter was awesome. I would definitely eat here again when in town.

Top of the Market exceeded any expectation we could ever dream of. This was our anniversary, and they even pre-printed menues with our names on them. Steve provided perfect service. The view was perfect, the food was perfect, everything was top notch. We could not ask for a more perfect, romantic dinner.

A group of us had dinner here after a long day at sunset to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The view was beautiful, the food was good, and the atmosphere positive. As the lone vegetarian, I was a little worried but it ended up being no problem. I had a pasta dish with fresh vegetables and my choice of sauce. Excellent! At the end of the meal, the birthday girl got a birthday macaroon with a candle. Lovely evening!

The food we had was outstanding. The service was excellent. j The location and venue were great. We were there for our 50th Anniversary Dinner and it could not have been better.

I had a wonderfully prepared salmon dish while my colleagues tried other yummy looking dishes. Service was outstanding and the ambiance was perfect for a business dinner and would be great for a romantic night as well.

We’re so happy we decided to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary dinner here. The wait staff couldn’t have been friendlier and more helpful and the food was excellent. They gave us a menu customized for us and offered a complementary dessert that was a million dollar version of a s’more! They also went out of their way to make sure we were seated near a window with a great view. Top of the Market is tops!

Everything about Top of the Market was superb. We were greeted warmly and taken to our window table with the sun setting over beautiful San Diego Bay. Our waiter, Bill, was friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I had selected a Cabernet wine from Argentina and he brought me a sample tasting along with another wine to try which he recommended. His recommendation was so much better and in the same price range. I ordered his recommendation after tasting confirmed it far superior. There were four of us and we all selected the ciopino which was excellent! We finished off the dinner with a delicious house made key lime pie dessert shared by all as we were stuffed from the ciopino and even had some to take home. It was a beautiful evening complete with impeccable service. It was a wonderful evening. Superb!

Our Concierge at a nearby motel suggested we have dinner here. She spoke pretty highly of Top of the Market, so my wife and I decided to give it a try. We were terribly disappointed. First it appeared we had a waiter in training. Then another took our order. First, we ordered Lobster Bisque. With a perplexed countenance, one small bowl was brought out and ceremoniously deposited in the center of the table by our waiter. This left about a four and a half of white tablecloth of which we would have to spoon the bisque. There were no other, smaller bowls. I guess we could have taken turns, and dragged the bowl to our side of the table, take ca few spoonfuls, then pass it back? Our waiter had immediately turned his back on us and begun having a rather lengthy conversation with the ladies across the aisle. VERY lengthy. My wife called his name - twice. Finally, I tapped him in the shoulder, interrupting his convo, and asked if he could provide us with a solution to the one bowl of bisque. He volunteered to "split it up." So, he left a moment and came back with not one, but two bowls of bisque which were very shallow, and now room-temperature. Next, oysters and grilled prawns: this was by far the best part of our meal. Then, eventually two orders of king-crab legs. These were split by someone in the kitchen. The waiter had suggested these, as they were easier to manage. They were really, really sad when they were finally brought out to our table: cold, damp, dry... Like they'd been soaking in a bath. I imagine they sat awhile before someone got around to using whatever device s pulled out to mechanically split them. And the joints were thrown in for good measure, and there were close to inedible. One, in the wife's plate, was rancid. End result of the evening: a $250.00 tab, and our leaving, feeling we were taken advantage of like this place maybe caters to tourists with the hope the hype will carry it through.... Except we're not tourists, and we travel, and eat out frequently. If you're looking for a place to be treated well, and have good food, this is not it.

We were warmly welcomed into the calm, quiet and well spaced restaurant. The service was attentive, friendly and evenly paced. I was delighted that our server took the time to fact check a comment I made and tell me I was correct. The food was well-presented and absolutely flavourful. The wine list offered interesting options, many not known to us, but we chose well. Kudos to Yvonne and Matt for their part in making the experience so fine. Yes, it is expensive but we thought it well worth it and will likely return at some point in our travels.

Myron and his assistant were two of the best. I would go again because of their service. The food was very good also. The view was great if you get to sit on the patio. They make it extra special if you let them know it is your birthday.

Our server knew his stuff and provided excellent service. The food and drinks were amazing and we can't wait to go back!

Living in Southern California means entertaining friends from out of town. This friend wanted to see the Midway (just few hundred feet away from Top of the Market. The place isn't cheap and you always need to make reservations but if you want fool proof good dinning this is it. There are hundreds of places in the Harbor/Gaslamp area and for the most part they all seem to be pretty good, but in this case one shot one meal to get it right, go here. I shared the cold seafood plate lobster, shrimp, clams, mussels, and it works great as dinner for two. All six people were happy with the food and the staff was great. Just the right amount of attentive but not intrusive. On my reviews I do the good the bad the ugly here it is. Good: Staff, food view and over all location on the harbor. Bad: reservations are a must and you may not get the time you want Ugly: Parking...do the valet, the parking lot is a madhouse.
Wonderful appetizers, great views
We had an absolutely fabulous pre-cruise meal at Top of the Market, complete with tasty food and excellent service. Pre dinner drinks were ok, and quite pricey. The grilled octopus appetizer was nicely done and presented and the smoked fish appetizer was delicious and so plentiful, I could have made it my meal. The kitchen makes great use of their grill and smoke! By the time my tuna arrived, I was pretty well satisfied already and yet it was so delicious I enjoyed nearly all of it even thought he arugula described in the menu turned out to be butter lettuce. Hubby’s bass was locally sourced. He did not care for the grilled vegetables. All was accompanied by a nice wine recommended by our waiter. The pot de creme was divine. Throughout the meal service was superb, just the right amount of attention and privacy. The bill was quite high but it truly was a fine dining experience with a great view.
