Love this spot

By Krysta M |

Tope is so great - amazing views, very cute, and the food and drinks were delicious. Tony was awesome! He remembered that I briefly mentioned I was a vegetarian and was attentive and kind. Looking forward to coming back!

Delaney is all

By caleb wilson |

my mother-in-law came to visit so my partner and I ordered tacos and drinks aplenty from Delaney. The tacos were SO lovely: I had the veggie tacos and they were perfect in texture and flavor! so spicy and crispy! The drinks were lovely! They fueled great conversation after some serious jetlag. The entire staff is incredible. We love our bartender (Is it Sam? Tyler? The drinks cause us to forget but boy he is cute with his cueball haircut.) The hostess, August, is so delightful, every single time! Delaney was our server. Perfect energy, great sense of humor, ready to roll wherever the conversation leads. We had so much fun chatting with Delaney, who is VERY smart and VERY funny, full of great recommendations and excellent improvisational skills. All hail Delaney. We've been frequenting Topé for two years and will continue furthermore! Hope to see all of our Topé buddies soon! :)

Wonderful rooftop cocktails

By Skye B-K |

I just went here with my friend for a beautiful afternoon overlooking the city. The view is unmatched and the cocktails are divine. However the service is by far the best part. Katalina is the best host I have ever had, she was kind and honest and gracious. I will be back solely based on her service. Our server, Gladys, was impeccable. She ensured we had the exact drinks we wanted and that our food was spectacular. She was amazing and we were so grateful for her kindness and attention to detail. She knew to come by our table only when we needed her. It was amazing. We will be back!

Trendy & cool but tacos were a flop

By Sasha Warren |

This restaurant has a bar vibe even though you’re allowed to bring children in. Very cool place with good service and views for miles but I really didn’t enjoy my tacos. They were flavourless and the server didn’t know much about the ingredients and had a hard time suggesting anything. I wouldn’t be back but I stayed at the hotel so it was conveniently located.

Great Guacamole and Chicken Tacos and Great Top floor views and an outdoor patio option.

By LMA2214 |

We were staying at the Hoxton and decided to eat at Tope so we did not have to walk around downtown as we heard it was sketchy. Tope was on the top floor of the hotel and nice atmosphere. We ate chips with Guacamole and hot sauce which was great (little spicy). The chicken tacos were amazing. The Rock Fish Ceviche has way too much vinegar and impossible to eat. I would definitely reccomended eating here as the ambiance is great and the food is great.

Delaney rocks!

Great experience at Tope! Delaney is a great waitress. Amazing food, drinks and view! Delaney is attentive and friendly.

Tacos and cocktails

By Mike McKenzie |

I had two fish tacos. They were pretty darn good. This place — on top of the Hoxton Hotel — was busy for a Wednesday night. My friends said weekend nights are nuts here. It’s a nice place. In the summer the deck and view are amazing with big pink (the US Bank Tower standing at attention in the background.

You can't go wrong with great drinks, view and service

By Vitor B |

We went for a quick drink at Tope and ended up staying for 3h. Their margaritas really hit the spot, the sunset is a great background and the service is top notch. We loved Matt, who was very attentive and provided great local recommendations. We will definitely be coming back to Tope.

Great tapas & cocktails on rooftop bar in downtown Portland, OR

By CARhett |

Located on top of Hoxton hotel in downtown Portland, this modern taqueria is a hidden gem. Great tacos and craft cocktails. Nice long bar and indoor seating. Outdoor seating has great views of surrounding area and Mt. Hood. They also have a speakeasy in the basement so try that after your dinner/cocktails. Great for large groups.

20s kinda place

Early evening springtime visit!

By Joshua |

This place is GORGEOUS! From the moment we walked in we knew we were going to be happy, and were not disappointed. Our order was a little messed up, but they bent over backwards to get it right. One thing that left me scratching my head was the fact that there were heaters inside but not outside. It was cold and windy! We asked for first available, but thought for sure there would be heaters out there. Other than that, we cannot complain and will be dining there again during our next stay at The Hoxton.

Highly recommend, service and food was beyond!

By Monika |

Date night out and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our server Nico was attentive, kind, knowledgeable, and added to the wonderful experience. He made us feel so welcomed, it was refreshing! Food was fantastic. Would recommend the Chile verde. Ambiance was just what we were looking for and the drinks were perfectly balanced. Can’t wait to visit again!

Matt is a gem

By Amy C |

Matt provided attention to detail, offered friendliness and camaraderie to our whole group. I hope Tope appreciates him as much as we did.

Excellent tacos!

By camn21252 |

Had some take-out tacos for dinner and they were really tasty. The taco chips and salsa also looked really good, but we didn't have room for them. Staff was helpful, courteous and attentive.

Great service, drinks & atmosphere. The food, however…

By j_l5549 |

Our server was outstanding, the place itself is gorgeous and the drink are decent, but I can’t recommend the food. I’ve never had refrigerated Mexican street corn and didn’t care for it. The tacos didn’t justify the price. Maybe it was an off day, but I would recommend reevaluating the menu. If you come for just drinks and to chill, then it’s a great place. But, we were pretty disappointed with the food.

Beautiful Rooftop Place

By Lon P |

A very refined space with exceptional service and a very nice view of Portland via the rooftop bar. We enjoyed several drinks and apps and all were very good.

Ask for server Delaney!

By Stephanie Gardner |

So I hate to say this but I never want to go to another Mexican bar and grill ever again after going to Tope! They had the most amazing service, and most importantly my partner and I had the best server Delaney! She’s incredibly sweet and spunky, I loved her energy, she definitely made the whole experience even more enjoyable:) I wouldn’t have asked for someone more unique and outgoing to serve us. Feel free to request her up until Sunday as it is sadly here last day! Plzzzz spoil her she deserves it!

Brief Visit Leaves Pleasant and Lasting Impression

By Mood & Vibe |

The Good: I was fortunate enough to visit Tope a few minutes before they opened and everyone was friendly, accommodating and cute! The vibe from The Hoxton below translated well in this bright, room top space. I grabbed a fancy looking ginger beer and ordered their Carne Asada tacos to go. While I waited I got to enjoy a great view of the city and their playlist was a diverse mix of Lofi to throwback hip hop (back when they had something to say!). The plants, indoor fire pit, prints featuring hop hop artist of the 80's and diverse staff made for a pleasant wait. The next time I'm down in Portland, I will dine in and try more dishes. The Okay: While the Carne Asada was tender and the presentation was nice, the meat lacked seasoning. I still devoured them, but I wish I had a little more flavor. Also, for three corn tortilla sized tacos, I was little put off by the price. I believe this has more to do with the fact that it is part of the hotel and the high quality of the ingredients. I gave this a 5-Star rating because of the staff and atmosphere. I tried one dish that didn't wow my taste buds and that's bound to happen in the restaurant industry. The service was impeccable and warrants 5 Stars.

Best Service Ever!

By Amy |

We went here after a 50th birthday party for my sister-in-law, and found a true gem! The service was great, but I have to compliment Matt! He was so patient, so kind, so engaging. He really is outstanding. He even arranged us for a perfect group picture! The rooftop view at sunset in unbeatable! I am telling you, you have to try it!

Get Their early for the view and expensive tacos

By tfizzle |

This is the latest and hip trendy rooftop bars in Portland. Nice bright space in and out, welcome service. great outside patio. Their chips and salsa at $14 is way overpriced and the queso fundido was just a mess. One taco for $5. Go for the view, not the food. but if you show up at 6 the wait will be a hour.

Rhett and Amanda

By Andrea Veronica Cenon |

This review is specifically for Rhett and Amanda. We loved the chicken tinga tacos the most!! But we especially enjoyed our servers Rhett and Amanda. They did a great job with communicating and serving us. They gave the right amount of attention that wasn’t overbearing. We loved talking to them. The food came out so timely and if there was something missing they did a great job fixing the issue. We love them!!! We hope all servers are like them and that Tope continues to employ such wonderful humans.

Thanks, Delaney!

Delaney was super-attentive and sweet, the Prosecco was refreshing, the music was awesome and the view splendid. Go here!

Great food, services and views

By Leiv P |

So, it was maybe the best experience of my life. Okay, of course not - get over yourself. But it was fantastic and 10/10. Delaney was the best, she was so accommodating to food allergies and helpful with the menu. Our chakras aligned under the Swift moon. All too well.

Don't waste your time

By brianmdr9 |

Food was decent but the staff were so obnoxious, service slow that was not worth it. They are over the top with their Covid issues to the point of it being uninviting and not worth it I ended up more comfortable bringing food in then bothering.

Good view and about it

By Steven A |

We went here as we were staying at the hotel. We requested an outside table and were told an hour or more before one would be available. No biggie so we asked if we could sit at an inside table until an outside one became available. The person seating people said no, if you sit inside you cannot be on a wait list for outside. We were told it gets to confusing to know who is what. So we decided to go to the room and they would text me when the outside table came available. Now is it me or could they not have just as easily texted me sitting at a table having a drink as they could sitting in the hotel room? The drink was ok but maybe I am old but $13 for a margarita is a little high and $16 for some old corn chips and a small ramekin of gauc. Way over priced for a decent view if you are outside on a clear day.

Delaney feels like my new best friend!

By Emily S |

Despite the wild temperatures, we loved our time at Tope this weekend! The drink special was delicious and Delaney, our server was so personable and friendly! Great conversations and a lovely time overall!

AMAZING

Tope is the best rooftop bar in Portland, and the staff is AMAZING! Specifically Delaney + Gladys! We will definitely come back to enjoy the food, drinks, and atmosphere.

Drinks and oysters with a view

By jacqline b |

Lovely rooftop bar with excellent drinks and good food. I loved this place. Wait for a table outside, it’s worth it. Matt was very personable and friendly and he really made us feel welcome and always took care of us himself or got our server to come out. I will be coming back here for the great vibes and ambiance.

Come for the food, stay for the waitress

By Jessica S |

The food was great, the views were excellent, the drinks were delicious and Delaney, our waitress was AMAZING!

Great rooftop bar, Mexican restaurant in Hoxton Hotel, downtown Portland, OR

By Rhett L |

Great views, great cocktails, great tacos in this new rooftop bar in the Hoxton Hotel in downtown Portland, OR. It can get crowded outside but there's seating inside around a fire pit and long bar. Great craft cocktails and gourmet tacos. Worth a visit if the weather is good in downtown Portland, OR

Such a beautiful stylish restaurant

By JacqBeNimble |

Had the classic margarita and chips/salsa and guac; all delicious. I wish I could have spent more time hanging around in this restaurant.

Great Mexican bites and drinks

By IowaTraveler76 |

Killer views from this rooftop bar and restaurant in the Hoxton Hotel. Very hip vibe, excellent street tacos, and a chorizo queso fundido that is a meal in itself. Service could be quicker.

Cute rooftop bar atop the Hoxton

By Dawntcheng |

Tope is a fantastic rooftop bar at the Hoxton. Love the views, tacos, and staff here. My husband and I are in Portland for work, and we always stay at the Hoxton. Having Tope on the rooftop is a great perk of staying at this hotel. We especially appreciate the staff who make Tope such a special experience - Rose, Ryan, Caitlyn, and Megan.

Fun spot for date night drinks

By Luke J |

Great view. Wonderful drinks. Try the pozole or the taco plates! Our server Natesa was so funny and kind. We will be back.

Amazing Humans

By Julia |

My friends and I came to Tope and were met with THE MOST exceptional service ever. Rhett is an absolute joy and seriously created a really amazing atmosphere for my friends and I. Two of my friends were from out of town in LA, and they felt so taken care of. Rhett was so sweet and humble and shared with us his amazing journey to Portland. He was hilarious, vulnerable, and authentic. His service was so great and he really made sure that we were taken care of. Amanda was also so sweet. She made sure that our table was always smiling and she was so bubbly and kind. She was working so many other tables and made sure that each of those tables felt special. Both of these amazing humans really made a rooftop bar feel like an oasis from everything else going on in the world. EXCEPTIONAL HUMANS and EXCELLENT SERVICE. We will be back for brunch!

roof top fun!

we had drinks and nibbles on the 4th of July and it rocked! Delaney was our server - she was super accommodating, knowledgeable and fun! Dinner and drinks were delish and the price tag was very reasonable. Lovely ambiance, super staff. Love love loved it!

Wonderful Ambiance With Not So Good Food

By Oskarduck |

Okay, the rooftop outdoor eating area and the indoor area are really nice, albeit very trendy. The menu has tacos and a few "snacks" and odds and ends. We labored over the taco menu - what the heck are lengua or arabes or guacachile or patrons? Our server didn't seem particularly interested in deciphering the menu for us so we chose 4 different tacos for 3 of us. I should note that the tacos are on the small side and expensive. I like spicy things, but the lamb sausage taco was somewhat spicier than I care for, spice for spice sake with no other redeeming virtue. The taco with zucchini arabes, whatever they are, tasted like a very spicy dill pickle. Meanwhile, my wife who chose this place was literally reduced to tears (not the emotional kind but rather the "too spicy" kind) from the Al Pastor (I don't know who that might be!) with roasted pineapple. The exception was my daughter, who is quite sensitive to spicy stuff. She thought the zucchini arabes and shrimp asada with pickled patrons were okay. Good thing we weren't particularly hungry since we didn't care to finish what little there was. Bottom line: not a fan in spite of nice views. Probably okay if your thing is to patronize a trendy place.

Great atmosphere

By Skip C |

We stoped in for a cocktail. The hostess was very friendly and attentive. We got a table out on the patio which was very light and breezy. A very pleasant atmosphere. Our was extremely helpful. I ordered an old fashioned that was delicious. I would return for dinner if I have the opportunity

The views are great and good food!

Top of the Night at Tope

By Marcos G |

My wife and I stayed a night at the Hoxton Hotel on our way to our honeymoon in Bali and we spent our evening at Tope. We could not have asked for a better evening. We sat outside at first, taking on the views of Portland. After a day of doing all the standard tourist traps in the area we could not help but we felt incredibly comfortable there. Maybe it has to do with taking our honeymoon near the end of summer on our way to supreme luxury and indulgence but I'd like to think it had more to do with the service. Our server was Daphne, an elegant professional who made us feel like we were the center of the universe. A serious talent. My wife was enamored with her and they chatted it up all night. After some time outside, we moved ourselves indoors to the bar. Our bartender Ash was also a stand out. We probably ordered one of everything throughout the night and she didn't miss a beat, her mix was always right. That evening has inspired me to write about our culinary experiences more often while we travel. My wife and I are big time travelers and we live for places like Tope and the people who work in them.

Fabulous Rooftop Bar

By Cynthia_GigHarborWA |

Beautiful rooftop bar with great view of the city. Fabulous tacos and drinks,(try the Marionberry cocktail)! Exceptional service from our server, Matt. He was so sweet and patient and Efficient! Even arranged us to take a beautiful group photo with the blue night sky behind us! We were visiting from Gig Harbor and will definitely recommend it to others and can’t wait to come back!

Tope rocks...Luke is awesome

By MCF |

Had the very good fortune to visit Tope tonight. Tope is a rooftop bar/tapas spot at Hoxton in downtown Portland...China Town to be exact. We enjoyed killer margaritas by the fireside, great guac and chips. Best of all was Luke. Polite, helpful went above and beyond to make sure we had a perfect guest experience. It was fantastic and I may just go back tomorrow!!

THE (Summer) Spot for Portland!

By Anchor-and-Beam |

This rooftop bar boasts gorgeous views of City and Mt. Hood, and a quaint outdoor space, which is a rarity for affordable eats and drinks. No happy hour menu, but their Taco Tuesday special is a delicious stewed meats steal-of-a-deal. It has the design feel of tropical vintage Florida, and is clean / green with white tile and tons of hanging plants. Our experience was only enhanced by amazing service from Amy! She gave thoughtful suggestions, delighting our tastebuds with drink and food descriptions. Next time, skip the busy happy hour at Portland City Grill and come here for their unique take on Mexican street food. [No pictures of food as it was so delicious we forgot to take photos :)]
