Low expectations, Excellent meals

By SalMTravels |

Quite frankly wasn't expecting an excellent experience and food. But this Hotel restaurant was Excellent. Food was excellent, service was excellent, and views great.

Service and Food are Excellent

By C R |

We stop in here regularly for lunch or happy hour and the service is always exceptional and the food is great!

Very convenient

By Mlanzalotti |

And good food to boot. Located right in the hotel, so it was very convenient to grab a bite or grab a drink at the end of the day.

Don't bother

By nova5star |

So not good. I was starving when I arrived but even in my I'll-eat-anything state I thought the meal was bland and blah.

Good Food

By Mortgageman9000 |

Close and surprisingly good. I enjoy walking and not spending a lot of time is restaurants The Torreyana Grille was perfect for me.

Great!

By Roam618273 |

Jade at the hotel restaurant is amazing! Jade treated me with the upmost respect and I believe that she is going to do great things in life. I believe y’all should give her a raise because she comes in and gives 100% each day. She is the reason I will be coming back here tomorrow. I rate her skills a 10/10.

Good menu, good food, a bit pricy

By clloydm |

The Chicken Brie sandwich is delicious..lunch and breakfast are more expensive than you would think.

A Hidden Culinary Gem at the Hilton Way Beyond “Just Resort Food”!

By Jon R |

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting much. Paper menus, a standard resort setting... I figured Torreyana would be convenient, decent, and good enough to fill the tank before checkout. What wasn’t I expecting? One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. If you’re staying at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines, don’t make the same mistake I did: go to Torreyana early in your stay. We ordered the sea bass, cioppino, tuna poke, and papas bravas. Every dish was beautifully plated, like edible artwork, and tasted even better than it looked. The tuna poke especially stole the show for me. Super fresh, balanced flavors, and a presentation that made me hesitate to mess it up with a fork (spoiler: I still did, and I regret nothing). The service? Absolutely stellar. Randi, our server, was attentive, warm, and knowledgeable, exactly what you want when you’re navigating a standout menu. To top it off, Chef Niko personally came out to greet us, shared some thoughtful recommendations, and made us feel like VIPs. Huge kudos also to the culinary team behind the scenes: Jordan, Rex, and Alec, you guys crushed it! Every dish that came out of that kitchen was a work of art. The biggest surprise of all was how far this place exceeded my expectations. What I assumed would be a “meh” meal turned into a full-blown dining experience. I just wish I hadn’t waited until the last day of my trip to discover it. Pro tip: Don’t sleep on this place just because it’s inside a resort. Torreyana is the real deal. Come hungry, bring a camera for the presentation, and thank me later.

dinner and breakfast were tops

By SR-1007 |

We had the pleasure of having both dinner and breakfast at Torreyana. Resort casual, so it fits with the guests whatever their attire. Dinner on the patio was perfectly cooked halibut. Donner staff was very competent and friendly.

Decent option when staying at the Hilton

By JF Bordeleau |

We had dinner once and breakfast 4 times ath the Torreyana Grille. My comments are solely for the dinner What I liked: Fairly diverse menu, substitutions allowed, family-friendly service, good quality food and great tasting, nice presentation, decent wine list What could be improved: Service was a little bit on the slow side. Our food was barely warm when it reached our table as we saw our plates staying under the heat lamp for over 10 minutes as they were looking for our waitress (they could have sent someone else...). This is a hotel so things are a little bit on the pricey side

Pretty good breakfast. Good service.

By JCLA |

We had a decent breakfast here on the day we checked out. My husband also ate dinner here and said it was pretty good. The service was good. Our server was very nice and quickly turned our food around because we were in a hurry to hget on the road. It has a nice airy sunny atmosphere. The omelettes were very tasty. That's about it. It was good. It wasn't the best breakfast I've ever had by any estimation but it worked.

Wonderful food.

By SoloTheBest |

I spent some time at the bar. The bartenders were great and the atmosphere was fun. I did not go to the restaurant to have dinner, so I will not comment on the restaurant too much. I did not order the fish tacos from here for room service twice, because it was so good. The best that I have yet to experience.

Best beef tenderloin and celery root gratin

By Joamna S |

I just had best dinner in years. The tenderloin was perfectly seared and still juicy; the roasted peppers and baby onion accentuate the meat flavor. A big pleasant surprise was the celery root gratin. Perfectly balanced unappreciated veggie, crispy and still flavorful with a bit of garlic and nutmeg, butter and Parmesan was very delicious and completed my beef dish! Thumbs up for Chef’s creativity!

Stuck with nowhere to go

By Leeanne65 |

The menu is unappealing and the food is worse. Mexican menu with no where to go once you book in. That’s it. So disappointing that we used uber To escape the rest of the stay There is really nothing of merit in the menu. The staff stand around talking and comparing things on their phones. What a shame this restaurant lets the resort down

Good food, good service within the Hilton

By Leonard S |

Very good selection of meat, poultry and fish in a very pleasant surrounding. Good wine list. Excellent service. Even if you are not staying at the Hilton, this is a place worthy of your visit

Excellent

By Keith2014 |

Was a bit odd as there was only one waiter in the grille do we were advised to go to the bar where there were 3 on. Food exactly the same and the location was pretty much the same too. Excellent service and good food at a reasonable (given it is the Hilton) price

just ahe...

By 3travelmonkeys |

food is average - however i highly recommend the french fries and good happy hour tid bits! the breakfast buffet looks good from afar but most of the goods were dried out (french toast, croissants) but the bagels and coffee good!

Torreyana Restaurant - Raul!

By Lil L |

We had breakfast at the Hilton Torrey Pines. Raul was our waiter. He was WONDERFUL! Interacting with Raul was definitely one of the highlights this trip. Thank you for hiring such a courteous and pleasant employee.

Nice Atmoshere!

By Laurel Y |

Annie and Ty gave us great service for dinner and drinks at bar! This Hotels restaurant offers dining inside or out. They have several outside gas firepits to hang out after dinner with pool, golf course and ocean views.

Held hostage for big $$$

By TheRealAwaxy |

Stayed at the Hilton Torrey Pines for business. Since we didn't have cars, we were "trapped" at the hotel since the next nearest restaurant was about 3 miles away. The food at the Torreyana Grill wasn't bad. It wasn't memorable either. One night I had the shrimp and crab nachos and a side of Swiss chard. Everything was just "OK". The next night I had the flat iron steak. It was cooked properly and was fairly tasty. You'd think they'd put a few veg on the plate for $24! The most egregious practice of this restaurant is the wine pricing. Not that I would drink it, but the Beringer White Zin was listed at $40 for a bottle that would cost $4 in a grocery store. They also priced Nobilo Sauv. Blanc at $59/bottle! I buy this at BJ's for $7.99,

Some good some disappointing

By Mark |

Ate a $19 burger there and it was good. Ate a $16 dollar nacho plate and some of the meat was ice cold and tasted kinda old. Didn't get sick but was worried

Good Thanksgiving Dinner!

By Shirley S |

We enjoyed a four course Thanksgiving Dinner at the Grille during a recent stay! Though I'll say four courses is a lot of food!! The first course was soup, we both chose the Caesar salad for our next course; then the main event.... fresh carved turkey and roast beef; both were very good! The sides were served at our table, more than ample!! Then dessert was a trio of pecan pie, chocolate cheesecake and deconstructed pumpkin pie in a jar (crumble on the top for the crust). Everything was very good!

Good but

By Steve S |

Only 4'tables he should be able to keep up. Food was good though pricey. Service was slow. Not sure where else to go but this should not be your first choice.

Meh...

By TravelBalm |

Just had lunch there... too exhausted from a trip to seek other lunch options so I dived in the lobster roll (average taste), went great with the glass of chardonnay but what ruined the meal was the cotija truffled fries. Not only were they cold but they were stale. I informed the waiter and he offered to bring a different portion which was mixed between fresh fries and stale ones. What a joy to wonder with each bite if you are getting a good one or a bad one?

Very Blah

By Karl K |

Typical hotel food. Not enough variety, slow service. Had the sangria special, what was special about it? Nothing.

Too Expensive

By Bill L |

Food was tasty but too expensive. Wait staff was a little slow. Nice ambiance & nice view of sunset from restaurant.

Very good for an hotel

By DavidMacclesfield |

I eat here a few times on a recent stay and thought food of very good quality. A good selection. You can choose to eat outside by open fires which is great. Breakfast buffet selection was pretty good and friendly service in preparing fresh omelettes with a wide choice of fillings.

Super mediocre!

By David Marino |

First, there is a five dollar charge for valet parking, even with validation. Not the case at the Torrey Pines Lodge next door. The dining room inside is dated with terrible acoustics. Not the case next-door. My guest's hamburgers were terribly over cooked, as was my salmon with my salad, that I ordered medium rare. Doesn't happen next door. The service was slow and barely competent--twice the waitress poured water in my guest's sprite as a refill. Just go to the Torrey Pines Lodge next-door for something elegant, as this place is lame.

Better than I expected for a hotel.

By Christine F |

The steaks were cooked to perfection. The shrimp was big and succulent. Our breakfast buffet was varried, fresh and delicious. Our waiters and waitresses were so friendly.

Out of their way

By BW Petaluma I |

I was looking at the menu and commenting to the bartender that I just felt like a steak and salad and she stated -I can get you just a side steak and salad if that's what you want. That was just a great attitude in todays "Can't Substitute" world.

Above average hotel dining

By cannonater |

Good selection. Great service.. Walk out to outdoor pool. The bar area seemed to have good energy. Good big screens for games

Good Breakfast Buffet.

By AmberA777 |

Cold buffet price includes hot oatmeal. Hot buffet includes omelet station. Adequate. Comfortable dining area.

Great bar food....great brerakfasts

By Marian334 |

I had a club sandwich and it was wonderful with fresh avocados and ciabatta bread. A great way to top off an evening with a cold microbrew!

Lunch and dinner

By Suzette K |

As we are staying in the hotel, I've tried lunch and dinner. I had the avacado mango salad. It was tasty but too much dressing for me. Dinner was salmon, well seasoned and tasty sides, not huge portions. I think it is good food but over priced.

Not impress

By Zaab Zaab |

Not really impress. Soup was very spicy, scallop was so salty and girlicy, shoepastly was very dried and ordered tea was a cup, a teabag and a hot water pot separately. Service was ok.

Mediocre Menu and Mediocre Food

By Ted-620 |

This restaurant is convenient if you are staying in the hotel. There are many better choices in the area.

Nice place to eat at the hotel..

By DSArchitect |

Very classy place to dine yet welcomed our 6 year old. Very friendly staff and very accomodating. Had all meals here and was not disappointed. Very nice atmosphere and well rounded menu. Would definitely return.

Best Mother's Day Brunch in San Diego!

By Molly M |

This was our second time attending the Mother's Day Brunch at the Hilton, and it was an absolutely spectacular experience from top to bottom. From the homemade donuts upon entry, to the meat carving station and seafood towers, fresh pastries and homemade omelets...all the way to the fresh roses and complimentary champagne, it was yet another spectacular Mother's Day with family. I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention that our service was equally phenomenal. Raul took personalized and heartfelt care of our family, and went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we were well taken care of. We look forward to coming back next year!

The best Bartender for the best nightcap

By Isabelle F |

This 5 stars goes straight to our amazing Bartender Jose R! He was extremely attentive and gave exceptional service. Very friendly guy who gave us tips for things to do around San Diego and made the last night cap of our weekend very fun!

Breakfast and lunch- loved them here

By Steve S |

This house restaurant was ideal and delicious. We at breakfast here and the buffet and omellete maker was super. We snacked and lunched on the patio enjoying salads and well crafted cocktails. Great find.

Food and service is excellent, prices are high

By SteveP22 |

Menu is diverse with some unique dinner specials too, Appetizers portions are small. Drinks prices are high too but they have a decent selection of local craft beers. The wine list was disappointing.

part of the hotel

By pearl d |

If you are staying at the hotel, definitely try the breakfast they have. dinner was ok. too less choices. service was great though. just a bit pricey for me.

Excellent Breakfast Buffet

By AMACsMom |

Our Hilton package included the breakfast buffet. From the omelet bar to the cereal bar, everyone was able to find something that they enjoyed. Highly recommend the apple cinnamon muffins.

Great food and service

By Jan M |

This was a beautiful restaurant. I sat outside for breakfast and enjoyed the sights of the beautiful swimming pool. Had dinner inside and enjoyed the sights and sounds of the pretty waterfall. As a Make A Wish Ambassador , it warmed my heart to see that all the money in the fountain for "wishes" went to the San Diego MAW Chapter. Service was wonderful and so was the food.

Fine, not more than that

By LilachKeren |

Food is OK, not good but pretty expensive. The service is good. We came there because it was convenient.

Decent dinner.

By BeakerTX |

Solo dining experience one evening while staying at the hotel. First attempt to dine, I was greeted by an empty greeter station. There was a large conference group occupying the bar, which may have drawn the attention of the host. The restaurant was empty. Second attempt an hour later was more successful. Once seated, service was attentive and quick. Was a little disappointed in the beer selection. They have a few local brews, but most of their ‘craft beer’ is something I can get anywhere in the US. Plenty of nice looking food items. The Kung Pao Caulinin was quite tasty. The mussels were forgettable. Nice clean plump mussels, but zero flavor. Given the lack of dining options in the immediate vicinity, this place will fill the gap. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

The staff are "out to lunch"

By Martha F |

The breakfast buffet is $28 and honestly there is nothing there that justifies that price. The coffee is so bad it tastes like watered down battery acid. God forbid if you order tea, you will need to remind your waiter about 3 times for the next 10 minutes as he will have forgotten about. Did I mention this is when there are only about 5 tables occupied, so not exactly a busy rush hour. For this price, the coffee should be at least decent. I just can't justify the price at all.

gluten-free and kid-friendly options

By Jane |

We ate here more than once. Fresh nutrient-conscious menu items. Very yummy salads and the chef staff seem to care about what they make.

Drinks and Apps

By INTANDEMBIKES |

We enjoyed cocktails and appetizers here. Everything was tasty and the views are great. The service was attentive. The chairs in the bar are not very comfortable. You either sink far down into the chair or feel that you may fall thru the bar stools. Other than that it was terrific. We liked the fish tacos and sliders.

Breakfast atmosphere, food, and service very average

By LagIN |

We had the breakfast buffet here and found the choices to be expensive and average in quality and availability. The atmosphere is fairly dark and the wait staff seemed overworked and/or not very interested in helping the guests. We needed to get going early in the morning so had no choice about where to eat breakfast. Go somewhere else if you can.

EXCELLENT FOOD and SERVICE!

By bakacha |

We loved the breakfast buffet and the service was wonderful. The omelets, waffles, sausage, bacon, potatoes, muffins, banana bread and Greek yogurt were delicious. had many toppings for the fruit and much to put on the omelets. One of the best breakfast buffets I've ever had! Well-managed!

Fried rice made with cauliflower instead of rice??? Was amazing!!!

By David W |

Have a very pleasant meal during our stay. My wife had the crispy skin salmon that she really enjoyed. I had the 5-spiced short rib that was fantastic. The most interesting thing was that it came with a "fried rice" side where they used diced cauliflower instead of rice. Was one of the best things I have ever eaten. Will be staying there again next week when in town and am looking forward to having it again!

awesome food and service

By Mark G |

the salmon with broccolini, baked potato and added mac n cheese was fantastic. Chocolate molten cake for desert was just right. The service was very good. the view was perfect, right by the windows looking at the pacific ocean. well worth it

No complaints here...

By NorthHero |

Service was excellent and accommodating to substitutions. Our meal last Thursday had zero complaints. The Halibut was perfect and everything was hot - had not been sitting around. The atmosphere is a fish bowl with it being downstairs. I wish they would remodel and add some cozy booths as there is nothing cozy about this place. Good thing the food was so good. On our last day we had friends join us for breakfast and again service was very good. Three of us did not order the buffet. Our meals were delicious. This place was by far some of the best hotel food we've eaten. And yes it is not cheap but convenience and location were worth it.

Breakfast is overpriced and under-portioned

By Helen A |

Waiter staff are excellent, friendly and respectful. I'd go somewhere else for breakfast, but this is convenient. Outside tables are best, the inside is dark, and families with noisy children are not what I need with my first coffee and the newspaper. But the view is gorgeous and just outside the door is a walking path that leads you around the golf course for a nice stroll.

Food was OK for hotel, but service slow

By NYCTravelPal |

There is only one hotel restaurant and the food was fairly reasonable in taste, but the service was slow and inconsistent. Not a lot for vegetarians, but a few salads as appetizers. I think there might be one fish dish.

very nice lunch in beautiful setting...

By goodtravel T |

We had lunch sitting near the large windows with a view of the pool area. The salmon Caesar salad was very good as well as the hummus. We would definitely eat here again when staying at the Hilton Torrey Pines hotel.

Great breakfast buffet, a little pricey but good

By shellisam2017 |

Great options from muffins to prosciutto to fresh fruit, traditional breakfast meats and potatoes. The omelette station was delicious. Great and courteous service.

Inconsistent food

By happytraveler2010_10 |

One night our dinner was excellent. Another night, I sent back my entree because it was under cooked.

Outdoor seating

By CODoc |

Excellent eggs Benedict for brunch. Great bar and open plan. Lunch and breakfast buffet, I ordered off the menu.

overpriced

By CincyCheerMoM |

overpriced dinner menu.... Had to ask for a menu that included sandwiches because nothing even sounded good. It was a decent value for what we ended up ordering off the lunch menu. They were great with my daughters food allergies special request.

Surprisingly Disappointing

By KLynnB |

I arrive alone to the hostess stand where it states too wait to be seated, receive glances from 3 waitstaff yet have to literally raid my arm and flag someone over to ask to be seated. Yes I'm dining alone, I reply to his question and I would like a seat outside, to this I am handed a menu and pointed to the door to find myself a seat. While I can certainly find my own seat, I would have preferred the sign state to grab a menu and go seat yourself rather than be treated like they could care less. I started with a gin raspberry drink which was the smallest pour (speaking as a former bartender). I proceed with the sushi grade tuna, holy lackluster for the price, it was just not good. I couldn't finish but rather asked for another drink, and if they could make it a double, when told they would have to charge double....(I wouldn't have it any other way twice the drink twice the price) she came out with the same glass and said the bartender said it's wider....I couldn't hold in my laughter, they really thought I was an idiot, she agreed it seemed to be the same as did everyone else at the fire pit who overheard the conversation. She left and returned with the same amount but different glass.... Oh well, my fault for asking for a double. Today while heading past I heard another couple state, "do we seat ourselves? No one had come by".... So sad because it's a nice spot for a hotel guest.

Overpriced bland food, uncaring wait staff

By Michael O |

The wife and I went here for dinner, since it had gotten late, and just didn't want to deal with locating a decent restaurant at 9 o'clock. The place was dead, I think there MIGHT have been one other person in the restaurant actually eating (another person was there, but it was obvious that he was using his assigned table to do work). We were quickly seated, with promise of water, and from here, things just went downhill from there. The water we were promised never showed. We placed our drink order, a WATER for the wife, and a Coke for me, and the waitress gave us the bar menu to look at for additional options, which I was actually grateful for since nothing on the menu looked particularly enticing, this took a good 5 minutes to show up. I would have been OK with this delay if the place was actually busy, and the wait staff were busy, but as I said before, the place was empty... Once our drinks were brought, she took our order, which we ordered from the bar menu, we ordered a nacho as a starter, wife ordered a Turkey BLTA, and I ordered the burger. About 10 minutes later, the nachos get slopped down on our table, wife starts to go to eat it, and realizes that there is shrimp on it (she is highly allergic to shellfish, thankfully only if she eats it, she can touch it), our waitress is nowhere to be found, so I end up eating the nachos, which were fair at best, the shrimp were pure rubber, the chips were limp, and overall, not great. Finally, our waitress shows up, and asks how the nachos are, I tell her that we had wanted the regular nachos, not the shrimp nachos which we didn't even know were offered, and her attitude was well, you got an extra surprise (which we were charged for). Finally the main course arrives, the wife's turkey sandwich was bland, and had VERY little avocado on it. My burger tasted like the seasoning shaker lid had fallen off while they were seasoning it, and the salad was swimming in the dressing to the point that the lettuce was wilted in it.

Pleasant Patio Dining

By CanyonRat |

We had a light dinner at the Torreyana Grill on the patio. The views are wonderful, the ocean breezes pleasant, and the wait staff very friendly. The food, while not overly exquisite was fine, and filling.

Standard hot breakfast

By Kimberly B |

Had option to upgrade breakfast for $5 to a hot breakfast. Would suggest avoiding all options were too greasy including the omelet. Stick with the continental great choice of fruit, yogurt, and bread. Staff & cooks went out of their way to assist me. Thank you staff!

Family visit

By Carol S |

Very limited menu😂 if u don't have transportation it's a long way for food !menu at the Hotel for lunch is a 20 Hamburger and dinner is also very limited and expensive for what u get!!

Breakfast Buffet

By Gregory T |

The $30 buffet has a small selection of breakfast items that all seemed hard or mushy with almost no flavor. For a second helping, I actually walked around in circles trying to think of something I wanted to eat. Best to go with an omelet as at least they are fresh. It is, however, a beautiful area and the service was good. If they could at least get it up to a basic quality standard it would be worth it for the atmosphere and convenience.

convenient meal while at the resort

By Fred B |

Enjoyed lunch here twice and was not disappointed. Creative dishes served by very friendly staff. I liked the open atmosphere here.

Avoid dinner like the plague!

By sk8lady |

We initially ate lunch here. Service was extremely slow but food was good (turkey, bacon, lettuce, and avocado sandwich) so we gave dinner a try. Major mistake. Cost was tripled and food was poor. They brought me beetroot hummus instead of a salad, then brought the salad when we were dobe eating. It was supposed to be shaved beets, goat cheese, and arugala salad and instead was a pile of arugala with bug chunks if beet and two dollops of goat cheese with a very acidic vinaigrette. It was horrible. I also had "potato croquetas" which turned out to be tater tots. Total waste of money. Go to Galaxy Taco instead.

Excellent food and service!

By sarahrenee444 |

I have noticed huge improvements in both quality of food and service from previous years. Frey helped me when I visited for the continental breakfast and she was very friendly and really went above and beyond to take care of me! It's always fun seeing Marco, the manager. He's always so happy and willing to go the extra mile to make our dining experience memorable! The food is great too! I love the fish tacos and the cheese burger, but I usually try to stay healthy and get the superfood salad. I'm so glad they have some healthy options that are still delicious! I highly recommend checking it out if you're staying here, it's better than a lot of hotel food!

Ok- only tried it once

By amandazaharis |

Was not blown away with the quality or the prices here - lunch was ok - and had room service which was much better

A lunch alternative...

By Sergio G |

If you are staying at the Hilton Torrey Pines, this is a good alternative to have lunch... Service was better than average although food was only ok

Gourmet Hotel Food

By pgrant_740076 |

The food is truely gourmet. Not just good food, imaginative food.Big portions, no porcelain deserts here.

Beautiful view!

By Sobeida V |

The Torreyana has a grand view of the pool, golf course and Pacific Ocean. It is a great place to eat wither inside or on the outside patio. The selection of beers is limited, with so many local brewers I expected more, but the food is great!

Part of Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines

By GregMegTurner |

See my review of the hotel please. Best part - service and omelets Worst - price Outdoor, indoor, and bar seating available

Excellent Breakfast

By Christopher G |

If you stay at this Hilton, do yourself a favour and try to get in for the full buffet breakfast. You won't be disappointed.

Bland food

By ServiceMatters86 |

I arrived after 9:00 p.m. and was limited to a "bar menu." The choices were limited and the food was bland and over priced.

Excellent for a hotel restaurant

By roxieontheroad |

While the menu is rather small, the dishes are nicely prepared and reasonably priced. If you were stranded here without a car, you wouldn't mind at all.

Decent Food

By gbulldoger |

I stayed at the Hilton and had the pleasure of eating at Torreyana four times. Every dish was excellent in taste and presentation. The wait staff were also great and very attentive. The only drawback was the dishes were not enough for a guy like me. I left wanting more but all in all the food was outstanding!

relax at the beach bar

By Stuart M |

Great view and food at the hotel the terrace overlooks the pool the golf course and the ocean nice fire pit and bar as well

Great food, relaxing atmosphere!

By Gay N |

We ate outside, overlooking the pool. Lovely sums it up for me. We had a flatbread, beet salad, turkey blt plus plus. Everything was tasty, fresh and pleasant.

Great breakfast, and very nice happy hour too

By Eleanor Wilson |

The breakfast buffet is just right. At $20, it's kind of steep, but I think that's standard these days in hotels. Great omelet chef, some of the best bacon I've had, and their Royal Cup coffee is really good too (and they will give you a to-go cup!). Happy hour is reasonably priced, with delicious sandwiches and sides that don't break the bank.

Succulent Menu

By Donald S |

The menu had great variety, the food was succulent, and the service was five star! There was a beautiful view from our table!

Price was high, the food was low

By Mary D |

The prices for this low grade food were bad even by hotel standards. The breakfast cost us $80 including two kids meals. The fresh fruit included a banana, a plum, and some diced pineapple. Cereals were basic corn flakes and special K. Soggy bacon. And we were supposed to tip the omelette guy on top of what we tip the waiter (to get our own food). We only went once.

Overpriced, low quality, slack service.

By Eric A |

I visited once for dinner during a 19 day stay. The hotel is somewhat isolated, embedded along the shoreline in an area populated by medical facilities and bio-engineering firms. There is no access to any other dining choices within walking distance; you have at least a 15 minute drive to find anything at all. As with virtually everything else at this hotel, the meal was overpriced. Although I was seated immediately and attentively, I was then pretty much ignored by the wait-staff. It took 5 minutes to get a glass of water, and another 5 before I had a menu in hand. My order was taken 10 minutes later, and a basket of bread was brought as an afterthought after the meal had been served. I had a chicken and linguine dish which was bland, nondescript, and basically unappealing. While it may be a pain in the butt to drive somewhere else, you will be better off if you do. Give this one a pass.

Service

By Kim K |

Mandy was great, the food was always very good. The breakfast buffet was amazing and everything is included.

Beware!!! Do not eat here unless you want to become ill!

By gottafly2stsomewhere |

My daughter and I ate at this restaurant twice on 01/01/16 while vacationing at the Hilton Torrey Pines. It was the only food we ate all day. We both became violently ill approximately two hours after eating there that evening. I attempted to speak to a hotel manager and restaurant manager immediately in hopes of identifying the source and preventing other guests from becoming ill, and neither would talk to me. Instead, they sent a security manager to our room the next day to ask us a battery of detailed questions. He also followed up with us after we left the hotel, and suggested we had a stomach virus. We received no apologies or return calls from the hotel and restaurant managers after several more attempts. Still having symptoms three days later, we went to an urgent care center. The physician there told us we had E. Coli. It has now been three weeks, and we are still having symptoms. After reporting the incident to Hilton Honors, we received a token voice mail from the hotel General Manager saying he was sorry my daughter and I were ill. We have not received any reimbursement for our ruined vacation, medical bills, and lost wages. They even charged us for the meals which made us sick. I am a Hilton Diamond member, and have never been treated so poorly by a Hilton property. If you must stay there, eat at the Lodge next door. I regret we didn't follow our initial instincts to do this when we witnessed blatant signs of carelessness and poor management immediately upon entering this restaurant.

Couple getaway

By Mary B |

There were no signs or notifications that thr restaurant was open only for breakfast and if you wanted dinner there was a limited menu you could order and eat in the bar. Breakfast was very good and the service was very pleasant..

Great breakfast

By John S |

I have Gold status with Hilton and one of the benefits is free continental breakfast. It varies from hotel to hotel, with some properties offering more than others. When I checked into the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines they asked if I wanted to pay $8 to upgrade to the buffet. Usually the continental is fine but I decided to get the buffet for all 4 of us. Great decision as this buffet was much better than I expected. Huge omelettes, some of the best waffles I have had, and lots of other options. We all agreed the breakfast was amazing and looked forward to it each morning.

Decent continental breakfast, pleasant surroundings

By traveldan21 |

See my review of the Hilton La Jolla Torry Pines Hotel for a paragraph about the breakfast.

Great place for breakfast

Since we were staying at the hotel, the Torreyana Grille was very convenient for breakfast. In addition to Ala Carte items on the menu, there was a choice of either a Continental Buffet or a full Buffet. Nice options among the items offered. We also found the service to be exceptional. What a nice experience to have for a change.

Excellent menu selection

the hummus plate is excellent. The salads are great. Service is excellent. Price is a little on the high side.

Great food for a tired traveler

By Gerald |

The service was good but somewhat standard. Not really enough for the prices. However, the Crab and Shrimp nachos were great, as was the house bread and the Crab Bisque. They had a good selection of scotch and the desert of Apple Pie was nice. Overall a good meal for one day. Might not be a repeat for each trip, but at least once per trip. A good meal for your first night.

No vegetarian options

By J B |

There are basically no vegetarian options here. If you're staying at the hotel then you are going to be hungry. You can have a tiny "salad" (some lettuce with a bottle of dressing gooped on top- more like a starter) for lunch and no main option at all for dinner. I asked the waitress for a vegetarian option and it was suggested I order a sandwich and remove the meat.. that would have left me with bread and lettuce. There are many fine dining and top rated restaurants around the world that manage to produce good quality vegetarian food. I'm not really sure why they can't manage it at this Hilton. I don't believe I am the only vegetarian to have ever stayed here considering it's an international brand and it's in California! The service was also very slow. I had to flag someone down every single lunch time.

Torreyana Grille

By Me8ow |

Food is nice but main menu quite expensive and limited. It would be good to have a few more options available. Kiddies menu nice especially if wanting to have a quiet night in.

Cristian in the Torreyana

By MARIA LUISA G |

Lunch and dinner at the Torreyana bar and restaurant was fabulous. Both times our waiter Cristian gave us superb attention and was very informative and pleasant. He couldn’t be more helpful and was very kind answering all of our questions and queries about the hotel, menu and surrounding area. A very pleasant stay and experience.

Delicious, tasty food

By John M |

Business buffet lunch was tasty and well presented. Breakfast was a wide selection of the usual fare. Staff were prompt and helpful.

Staying in dine in..

By madbeacher2009 |

No issues with the service or the quality of the food and if you are staying there it makes it easy to just have dinner there as well.

Really enjoyed the food

By Tina S |

I stayed at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines and had lunch, dinner and a few drinks at the Grille. Everything was wonderful. Apps included the Braised Short Rib Nachos, Calamari, the mega mezza platter, and other choices. Everything was good. Dinners included steak, salads, fish tacos, and again, all great! Cocktails were really good. And the most important, every single server was great! Friendly, helpful and always around when you needed them. I would definitely go back.

Food is very good and experience was a lovely one

By Deb P |

Located in the hotel, we had dinner recently here. The food was quite good with a good selection of freshly prepared, interesting local dishes. Stella was a wonderful server and we very much enjoyed our experience here.

Typical hotel spot

By NanRichter |

We came in after dinner so had a couple of appetizers. They were delicious. My husband had tuna tortillas and they looked awesome and I had some type of dumpling that was very flavorful. We sat and had cocktails waiting for our other party to arrive. We moved to the bar and struck up a conversation with someone in for the granite/quartz conference. It was a really interesting conversation. I enjoyed meeting that person a lot. All in all, it was a nice experience.

Expensive and just ok, omelette/waffle station took 5 to 10 min each.

By Nikki H |

Highly sensitive to Gluten. Asked for the chef to come out and explain what I can and cannot have on the buffet. He had no idea what he was talking about, at all. I knew more than he did about the foods that were on his buffet being gluten free. Ended up being like a $60 breakfast that really wasn't worth it in my opinion.

Good breakfast buffet on patio while traveling on business

By Brigit-Saule |

Good basic breakfast buffet with made to order omelettes. Fruit, yogurt, breakfast meats, pancakes, etc. Not a whole lot different or special, just good and fresh. Tasty homemade tea breads... lemon, blueberry, etc. Ate there two mornings in a row, on the patio. What endeared me was the service. I was in a rush on the first day and needed my check right away. Server brought me some extra to-go coffee with the check. Then the next day, the server remembered me and brought my check quickly again, along with the extra to-go coffee. Downside...quite pricey. Not sure I would pay the $23 if it was on my own dime.

Great salad!

By Deb T |

I had my free glass of wine with a wonderful shrimp salad. My server was very attentive but left me alone with my book

Good food, outrageously overpriced

By grzzz |

Overall – So-so. As the title of my review states, the food was pretty good, but it is way overpriced. Food – The continental breakfast was almost twenty bucks and to be honest, on a few occasions I have had free breakfasts that were just as good. You could tell that they cater to business travelers who write off their expenses or people who don’t mind the prices. For an extra eight bucks you can get the omelet bar and more meat items. That part of the meal was really good. They mentioned pancakes too, so I asked for them. They were a few dollars more, but were delicious. Service – About average. Price – Way overpriced for what you get. Atmosphere – Very nice. Cleanliness – The restaurant and bathrooms were extremely clean.

An Amazing Weekday Meal!

By B Guz |

My mother and I stopped by for a nice dinner and were treated to a delicious meal plus some amazing service. We were waited on by Gavin behind the bar, who was cheerful and eager to please. After serving us a couple pints of beer we engaged in a small conversation which added to the experience. When the food came out from the kitchen, the presentation was as impressive as the taste. We started with the Mussels and Street Corn (My Favorite dish) which had plenty of flavor in each bite. Then onto the main course which was the Apricot & Glazed Chicken for myself while my mother enjoyed the Sea Bass (Not pictured as she dug in right away). Both dishes were served hot and like the appetizers had an explosion of different flavors throughout the plates. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious meal!

The BEST halibut I've had in a long time!!

By karen m |

Came here alone on business and decided to eat dinner here as it was too far to drive to any other places. The prices are extremely high so I decided on the local halibut to keep the price down some. It cost 37$ and it came cooked perfect with a crust of perfection and seasoning. It was served on a bed of crab risotto. Pea purée and a Parmesan crisp made this perfect! I was shocked how amazing and tender this fish was cooked and I must admit, I ate it all!! I totally recommend this dish for dinner. The bread was good too!

Very Nice Breakfast

By Kirk F |

Located in the Hilton hotel, this is a very nice option for breakfast. The omelet is $16, but it is one of the best that you will ever have. Great wait staff

Decent food and friendly service

By danetus |

We ate here almost exclusively during our stay at Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines. The breakfast buffet had a good variety (nothing extravagant, though). The service was fast and courteous, regardless of the number of people at the restaurant. Lunches and dinners were equally good. We are pescatarians and had no problem finding a variety of fish and vegetable items on the menu. The kids' menu had the usual staples, such as Mac & Cheese, pizza and chicken nuggets. Everything was prepared well and fresh. Most of all, we appreciated the friendly demeanor of the staff. Our waiters were attentive and easy-going, which always made our meals pleasant.

Solid Breakfast Buffet

By SNoon4056 |

The omelet line got long, but they handled it. It was worth the wait though. Food was great.

OK, but really no other options in hotel

By tlagyn |

Stayed at hotel for business meeting. Ate here twice, both OK but not great. Breakfast buffet was pretty standard fare. Nothing special. Mass cooked eggs, potatoes, meats. There was an omelet chef, which is typical at hotel buffets, who was efficient and good, which was the only plus. The waiter blatantly push the buffet for breakfast. Ate a late lunch at the bar on a Sunday afternoon while watching the football game. OK burger, not memorable or particularly tasty.

Exploring New Levels of Mediocre Hotel Food

By Alyssa L |

I ate here for breakfast twice, and dinner once, because there weren't really any other options. While the breakfast buffet was ok, my dinner experience was terrible. I expect a certain level of mediocrity from hotel restaurants/bars, so I tried to be nice and patient, especially when travelling alone. That said, I sat down in the practically empty lounge and tried one of their mocktails - it was terrible! So aspartame-y and chemical-y I couldn't drink it. I told my server and she took it away, but still charged me at the end. Thanks. Since there weren't a lot of gluten-free options, I ended up ordering the expensive steak. The cut was great, but I ordered it rare and it came out medium. Darn. And the sides? 3 pieces of asparagus and four tater tots. (They called them something else, but don't be fooled.) For that price, I expect at least a half cup of tater tots. Just kidding. I do at least expect to come away from dinner full. And I was not. I took the 10 minute walk to my rental car and went to Trader Joe's and bought snacks. Oh, and when I tried desperately to leave, I had to flag down my server, who was deep in conversation with another server... twice... to get the check.

great burgers

By SDG_142014 |

They have a wonderful angus burger. Done just right and so tasty. You have a choice of a Continental breakfast or a full breakfast with someone that will make your eggs to order. They have fresh fruit, oatmeal, yogurt, and many other foods to choose from.

Gourmet Level Food at extremely reasonable pricing

By 842deem |

What a pleasure to dine at this location; many specials during happy hour. The happy hour specials are gourmet level dishes at 50%! Yes, a person can dine on the specials and consider it dinner...plentiful portions beautifully presented with staff that treat you as you are the one and only in the room. This is what dining on vacation or after a busy business meeting is suppose to be like-excellent food and excellent service. Some examples of the specials during happy hour (4:00-6:00); lobster macaroni (yes real lobster), nachos with top of the line brisket, superb calamari (huge portion), seafood tacos, a board of meats and cheeses.

Happy hour was good deal

By Familytraveler2010 |

Great view. Nice place to relax and half priced food and drinks. Did not expect much from food served, but it was actually very good for bar food.

Thank-you!

By Ben C |

Chef Nico, Christy, Cordell, Natalia, Emilyi, Juan, Daina, Sandy, Jaun. What a great team, we had such a great time. I really like the flat bread and the truffle fries. Look forward to the next visit to the hilton la jolla. The characters acquired for this comment section. It's too large.

Great Option in the Hotel

By Niblik2010 |

For breakfast I ordered the Eggs Benedict with Bread Pudding (tasty and likely highly caloric!) and the Ahi tuna sandwich for lunch. Both were excellent as was the service.

Nice atmosphere

By Ebirdy |

Typically priced for a hotel so it's not inexpensive. Very good waitstaff both at breakfast, dinner and the bar. I had a Caprese salad which was very good and we split a slice of carrot cake which was huge and perfect for two.

Dinning

By LaSource Spa |

Nothing exciting, service is decent, menu is lacking, breakfast buffet is lacking; although omelettes are perfect. Torreyanna Grille located at Hilton on Torrey Pines Road is a location isolated from restaurant options. We have chosen to have in room dining from another source. Its not what we want. But at this point willing to pay extra for a treat on vacation.

Nice place to eat

By noram2013 |

Great service and delicious food.We had a Easter Brunch and it was delicious definitely beats other highly ranked hotels in the area

Average tasting food

By Fred1021 |

We stayed at the Hilton Torrey Pines for two nights and made a late dinner reservation at the Torreyana Grille on the first day. We ordered the stone fruit and brie flatbread which tasted good especially after an exhausting day at Legoland with my family. For the main entrees we had the rib eye steak, the black cod, seafood pasta and the wild isles Scottish salmon. My grandchildren had the chicken tenders, grilled chicken strips and fries. The food was tasty though not very scrumptious. The clam chowder soup was very good though.

Great Service

Great Service and food!!! the staff really goes out of their way to be helpful

I did forget one thing

By Nassimthedream |

Ate here twice for dinner during my stay. First night got the flat -iron steak ...decent , small portion for price...warm beer. 2nd night...burger buns were burnt...burger over cooked. Didn't really want to complain or wait for another because I had my 2 daughters with me and it was sleepy time.Whoever the cook was , needs to learn how to grill burgers and toast buns.

relaxing weekend

By leanna r |

staying at this hotel for the 1st weekend in october for a wedding and needed a late night snack upon our late friday night arrival. the bar was open (thank goodness!) so we met up with family and enjoyed awesome fish tacos and several craft beers. the next morning, we enjoyed lunch. the crab/lobster nachos were a bit to "watery" & therefore the server took it off our bill which was very nice. the following evening, we decided to eat at the bar for a bunch of appetizers. the server, in my opinion, made a choice to ignore us but wait on another couple who had arrived far after us. the server then proceed to not only take their drink order but then wait around the bar until their drinks were made & then returned to their table to serve them & take their food order. i watched the whole thing play out. not good. my husband had to order our drinks from the bartender while the server was still at their table taking their food order. when the server decided to make her way over to our table, i had to tell her that due to her lack of contact we had already ordered our drinks from the bartender. the server looked shocked. (i mean really?) she never apologized. luckily, the chef and bartender made up for it with the yummy food & drinks!

Relaxing meal

Ate here on arrival very relaxed atmosphere--try the BLAT (Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado, Tomato) The view is great

Waitress

we ate in the restaurant and we were served by a waitress named Joane. She was outstanding, and represents the best of the Hilton hotel chain. she deserves a commendation for the way she treats her customers.

Skip Mother's Day Brunch

By LZA811 |

A Mother's Day Brunch is not a good measurement for a restaurant but it has to count for something. Generally, I find these overpriced holiday events are to be avoided - this one - for sure. But since it was our first visit to this location, I had to comment. First, no brunch is worth $65 per adult. That's absurd. But I guess, that's what the "market" is bearing. For that I expect, great food, service and ambience - none of which Torreyana Grille offers. The food - average, even disappointing. Soggy vegetables, tasteless tri-color potatoes, mundane salads and a lackluster choice of baked breads. Second, the service. Weak. When you have to flag down the wait staff to get a clean fork or another coffee, there's no excuse. Third, ambience. Yes, the dining room overlooks the golf course and ocean vista but you really can't see that unless you are out on the terrace. The dining room is vast, it was more like eating in an airport terminal. When we arrived (we were a party of 5 adults and two children - we were first taken to an awful table overlooking the "kid's brunch." Not exactly where I want to sit on any occasion. Host Elvira was helpful but I got the sense there was no real commitment to pleasing the customers in general. The tab - $450.00 Never again.

Great food and staff

By drjeffers |

The staff is excellent. They are helpful and pleasant. The breakfast buffet offers a variety of choices and the happy hour prices are great. You don't have to sit in the bar to receive the happy hour prices.

Boring, average food

By Candy B |

average food at premium price, service was average. It is the only place to eat except for the hotel next door that is with in walking distance of anything. You need a car to escape but parking is expensive.

Could Have Been Better

By triptakero25 |

Pretty View and Attentive Service but stop there. Salmon undercooked and slimy, $8.00 Fries Cold and $17.00 Wedge Salad very difficult to eat.

Very nice

By 912johannac |

We were here recently for a conference and had most of our meals at the hotel. The food was mostly excellent, if a little pricey. Service was spotty at times, especially outside during the lunch break. Otherwise, it was lovely. Great salads. One very good soup. A nice buffet breakfast. My companion loved the fish tacos. The servers were all kind and helpful.

Buffet breakfast brims with choices

By tinkstraveltime |

We chose the Continental, but you may have omelets made-to-order and other hot items at the full buffet. Or order off the menu. All appetizingly displayed and tasty.
