Best Pizza in NYC!

By Cameron W |

I've eaten pizza at John's of Bleeker Street, Grimaldi's, Di Faro, Rao's, Spumoni Gardens (the original) and many more. Totonno's is the best; dough is properly proofed etc., and the grandfathered 800° F coal oven makes a difference. Whole pies only, so bring a friend or two. Pizza is great right out of the oven but doesn't age well. Try to finish within 12 minutes for the best experience.

Can’t live off their history forever !!!

This very old pizza joint has been in this Coney Island neighborhood in Brooklyn longer than most of us have been alive. And their attitude shows !!! The pizza (all they serve), is pretty good, however, it's not worth the price, the wait time, the off putting service and most importantly, the cash ONLY policy are all obstacles that get in the way. With so many great and definitely more welcoming pizza restaurants in the area, it's impossible to justify this place. Try DiFara on Coney Island Ave and Avenue J. Did I mention Totonno’s is very expensive !!!

Old school pizza

This is the type of Neapolitan pizza I grew up with. It's what a pizza should be. Not filled with junk but the bare ingredients that make you taste a true pizza.

Good Pizza

I went because I had read an article that this was the best pizza in Coney Island (if not New York). The pizza is good, but I would not sure it lives up to the hype. As a general rule, the service was hit or miss, we could not get a second drink because no on ever came back to ask us, but it seemed like it was unclear who was our server as some showed up to work late. Also there was one surly waitress who barks at customers and servers alike. She really ruined the experience and caused the lower rating. A couple of things to keep in mind. We got there right when it opened and it was not during the summer so I would expect there are long lines during the summer. There are only 10 table in the place (each seat between 4 - 6 people). If a solo person comes in, they get an entire table, thus another cause of long lines. They should have a counter for single customers and tables for two. You can only order whole pies (as one customer found out after waiting in line with us for the place to open and then left.) Why no menu on the window outside? Yes it is old school in that the pizzas will remind those over 50 of the type of pizza we got at Italian pizzerias during our childhood, but good customer service is old school too.

The Best Pizza Ever!!

We were told this was the best pizza in the US, and I agree. Our hotel staff told us to get there early that they only make so many pizza's and that's it. We got there just after 11:30 and got the last seat, as a long line began to form outside! The pizza was definitely worth waiting for, it took a little over an hour to get it. They make one pie at a time, so if others are ahead of you, it takes a while. Go early and get to there before a crowd and they you can get to Coney Island before that crowd! Don't miss this great pizza, I liked it more than Grimaldi's in DUMBO
