Delicious and well-prepared Italian food

By Old and On the Way |

We have had dinner twice so far at this latest neighborhood BYOB addition. Each time the food has been fresh, delicious and well-prepared. A good mix of some more typical Italian restaurant fare such as Zuppe de Pesce as well as more innovative pastas and antipasti. Service is friendly--it was packed on Saturday night so a teeny bit slow but very pleasant. We will definitely be going back.

Great meal for a special night

By CWBuff |

It was our wedding anniversary and we decided to treat ourselves to a play at the Sedgewick Theater and a dinner at a place close by. After doing some homework we decided on Trattoria Moma and we were not disappointed! We were met by the Chef/Owner Bledar, who confirmed our reservation, promptly seated us and told us the daily specials. An ice bucket for your wine bottle (this is BYOB) appeared fast as well as iced water and a basket of bread. The cannellini beans\olive oil spread which accompanied the latter was surely a good sign of wonderful things to come. For the appetizers the wife chose Caprino - beets, roasted cauliflower, goat cheese & pistachio pesto while I went with Cozze e Vongole “Alla Tarantina” - mussels and clams, chicken sausage in red sauce. Our Main courses were Swordfish steak special served with creamy pollenta and grilled asparagus(wife) and Branzino grilled filet with jumbo shrimp, and calamari over creamy lemon fettuccine (myself). We returned after the play to cap off our wonderful evening with coffee\capucchino and desserts. Truly a WONDEFUL experience and GREAT meal! Thank you Bledar and the staff!!!

Always fresh and delicious - Another great meal

By Dwaine S |

The food and service are top notch. This is our favorite restaurant and I took my wife here for her birthday. We always listen for the specials as they are normally great. This time we got both the appetizer special and the pasta special. Both were perfectly cooked and delicious. And the service remains top notch.

Just delicious

By Patricia D |

Small noisy restaurant, but well worth it. The food was delicious. Started with the mushroom soup, followed by burrata and ending with crab pasta. All was flavorful and well cooked. Desert was the finishing delight of hot lava cake but I did prefer the cream Brule the best!

Excellent food and not expensive, can deal with allergies

By FellowTaveler2 |

This is a gem in terms of quality of the food, willingness to accommodate for allergies including gluten, and reasonable prices. We recently went for a second time, this time on Saturday night, and the acoustics were much too loud -- they need to install baffles. Also, the service was very slow - they had signs looking for more waitstaff. Still, a wonderful dining experience.

Don't miss this great Mt. Airy BYOB!

By abs |

We had a wonderful experience at Trattoria Moma and look forward to the next visit. The food was superb and the service was great, on a very busy and bustling Friday night. Highly recommend trying the specials and the pasta. Our server Sophia was really exceptional, attentive and friendly. Happy to have an excellent BYOB in central Mt. Airy!

Terrific place in Mt. Airy

By Christopher L |

We went here last time we visited Philadelphia and I am delighted to came again this year. The food remains creative and top-rate. We have been to a number of 'highly rated' restaurants in Philly on this trip and Trattoria Moma had better food than them all! The service is also thoughtful and friendly. Will definitely come again next time in town!

Tiny restaurant with big-time food

By Jeff E |

This is a small Italian restaurant in the West Mt. Airy section of the city. There are maybe 10 tables and it can get quite noisy when all are filled. But you come here for the food which is always delicious. Tuesdays and Sundays they have a $35 four course dinner off of the regular menu. The portions are slightly smaller, but the quality is the same. For a main course, my wife and I love the branzino fillet with crabmeat, shrimp, calamari , and fresh tomato. She always gets the squid ink pasta with crabmeat. The grilled calamari is also one of our favorites. All the pasta is freshly made. It's a BYOB which adds to the value. We drive 35 minutes to get there and feel it's worth it.

lovely evening with good friends and good food

By alexandra9007 |

Dined on a Tuesday evening with friends. We sat at the front table, near the window, in a bit of a nook. It was nice and fun to be "away" from the main restaurant. The restaurant, overall, is small, and I suspect it was noisier in the main area. The employees were welcoming, pleasant, and checked in on us just the right amount of times. The food was delicious. On Tuesday nights, you can have a 4-course meal for $35. This was a great value, in my opinion. Everyone in our group liked everything that we tried. The ingredients tasted quite fresh, and everything I had was flavorful (arugula salad, gnocchi, and duck). It is a BYOB, which I like. We will definitely return!

Beautiful little restaurant

By Fauxqui |

Valentine's dinner was exceptional. The seafood soup was delicious and full of seafood. My lamb ossobucco was so tender it fell off of the bone. Served on polenta, my only regret was that everything else on the menu looked equally yummy. Service by Jennifer was super!

Neighborhood Excellence

By Stuart R |

Trattoria Moma is in the middle of Mount Airy's business district. It opened about 4 years ago. Since that time it has gotten better and better. Each time we've been there it is still better than the last time. The food is Italian, but not typical red sauce. An eggplant torte and a chicken sausage dish are among the small plates on the menu. The entries change all the time. Usually the specials are worth choosing - they may or may not reappear in the menu. We have been fortunate to dine here many times. It can get noisy because it is small. It is bring your own (BYOB).

I have nothing to complain about

By Albina Y |

Good service. The portions are not very large. The snacks are delicious. Hot meals at a high level. The duck is delicious. I have nothing to complain about. The songs of Eros Ramazzotti sounded all evening, like a piece of Italy. The only negative is not a very beautiful view.

Local Gem

By ritab88 |

My husband and I had dinner at Moma last night with friends and were so happy that this little trattoria was as wonderful as our last visit over 6 months ago. Moma continues to present a small but varied menu. We all ordered different entrees and each was delectable and beautifully presented. My branzino was perfect but everyone said the same about their dishes, which consisted of the lamb osso bucca, pasta bolognese and veal. Perfection for all was the best praise I can bestow on a restaurant! Can't wait to go back.

Feel bad giving it an average

By totallyhonestlady |

Looks like most people loved this place I used their reviews to select it for a recent dinner. Was disappointed, portions were somewhat small, would say the food was good not worth the prices. left a bit hungry. The other 3 diners I was with all concured. Got a bit loud as the tables filled up.

Another Amazing Meal... Moma is our favorite place to eat.

By Dwaine S |

We have been here at least 10 times, and EVERYTHING we have tried has been delicious. The homemade pasta is the best I have had. The Calamari appetizer is delicious, and when he has the Octopus appetizer special, that is the best Octopus I have had, anywhere...

Matches chefs in Italy

By Karen Lee D |

We have come to this small Mt. Airy restaurant three times in the last few months and the food and service has been excellent every time. Last night was the same. This is the first chef I’ve encountered in the U.S. who can make octopus as delicious as they do in Italy. So tender! The same with the Bronzino topped with calamari rings and shrimp. Each tender and perfectly cooked. My dinner companions raved about their food also. One ordered the lamb shank and reported it was tender and falling off the bone. Another had the gluten free pasta fra diablo and practically licked his plate clean. Three of us at the table had multiple food allergies. The server and the chef took that in stride and gave us all a splendid meal. I had the creme brûlée last night and now I will not be able to eat it anywhere else. Forget the rubbery renditions you have eaten - this was a creamy, sweetened cloud in a ramekin. Yummy! The dessert menu included a house-made tiramisu. Wish I could have tried it, but I have gluten issues. I bet it’s fabulous. Best of all, BYO means this restaurant doesn’t break the bank.

What a find! Incredible BYOB

By marvi62 |

My husband, son and i had an incredible dinner here last night. We live about 25 min away but never knew this restaurant existed until we discovered it via OpenTable. Dinner started with fresh, warm bread served with olive oil, a canellini bean dip, and incredibly good balsamic. For appetizers, we tried a layered combination of fresh mozzarella, tomato in balsamic glaze (I think), and portabello mushrooms. Our son loved it and he doesn't even like mushrooms or tomatoes! My husband had an artichoke stuffed with crabmeat that was as elegant to look at as it was good to eat. For main courses, we ordered a branzino filet cooked perfectly with amazing, homemade pasta on the side in some sort of lemony cream sauce; a pasta and mushroom dish; and the best prepared tuna filet we have ever tried (cut into slices, cooked exactly medium rare as requested). Service was just right. Even though it was a Summer week night, which tends to be really quiet in Philadelphia, the restaurant was almost full by 7-7:30 pm. Noise levels were perfectly fine (and we are sensitive to noise). My only (little) complaint is that the chairs really need cushions. The padding is thin and after 90 min or so we were a bit uncomfortable (only time I have ever made this comment in all the years we have been eating out). This would not stop us from going back though. What a gem... and BYOB to boot! We will definitely be going back!

Nothing to write home about...

By Jules63 |

Booked a table through Open Table on a Wednesday night. Got there and only one other table was occupied... Ok for a neighbourhood eatery. Our reservation was at 8:15, maybe a little late for some but right on time for us. Felt rushed by the waitress who was obviously looking forward to cashing out. We ordered two pasta dishes, both of which were "ok", nothing more. Dishes we could have made at home, using a Pasta 101 recipe book. Not too impressed. Overall, the meal was affordable, mostly because it's a BYOW. Tried it, won't go back.

The very best

By Harrietlou |

Italian food we've had in a long time. We went twice in one week -- it was that good. From the olive oil / bean dip and bread to dessert, each dish was perfect. We've tried salads, soup, pasta, two entrees and one dessert. Usually restaurants excel at one course, but here it was all spectacular. Service was friendly and caring. It's a new favorite for us.

Delightful experience

By nancydkgarden |

My husband and I joined friends for a wonderful dinner at Trattoria Moma. Our waiter was friendly and offered excellent suggestions. Our calamari appetizer was tender and wonderful. My lobster ravioli was excellent and dessert of orange creme brûlée was wonderful. My husband was very pleased with his lamb entree. We will definitely be returning.

Inventive Italian

By Robert L |

BYOB and lots of good variety on the menu and specials. We had duck and black squid ink linguine. Both excellent. It gets crowded but service is still usually reasonable.

Great food, very accommodating & BYOB

By McN2 |

This was our second visit here, and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time. First, it’s great that you can bring your own wine. Second, and more impressive, is that they are very accommodating with their menu. They offer multiple options within each course option, and because of their willingness to be flexible, they’ll remove unwanted items and/or offer substitutions. For example, I ordered the gnocchi with sweet peas in a cream sauce, but without the speck. And for my main dish, I was able to order the branzino without the shrimp and calamari (as I don’t eat pork, shellfish, etc.). The waiter also asked if I wanted something to replace those items in my main dish, so I had Brussels sprouts added to my dish as well. The dishes were great, especially the pastas...the gnocchi was great and the lemon fettuccine with the branzino was fantastic! The 3 others with me ordered 2 of the eggplant dish and one mushroom ravioli from the Primi section, and then 2 got salmon and one ordered the swordfish special as main dishes. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed every dish. The restaurant is small, but cozy, although it can be a little noisy. But the efforts made by the restaurant to meet requests and still provide great food can’t be beat. Would definitely return again.

Dinner

By Robert L |

This was our first time at this small (obviously) Italian restaurant. Service was efficient and friendly. The smaller menu offered a nice diverse selection. The 5 of us shared several dishes. Most dishes were very good but none were fabulous. Several appetizers and entrees were all consistently in the very good category but most dishes just lacked that extra "pop" in flavor.

Outstanding meal, service and ambiance!

By Marla K |

One of the best meals I have ever had was tonight at Trattoria Moma. The food was fresh, delicious and perfect sizing. Everyone at the table enjoyed each bite. The homemade pastas, sausage and calamari were standouts. Our server Nick was wonderful. Noise level on Saturday night was fine. Intimate, comfortable setting. Can't wait to go back!!

NOT ACCESSIBLE

By Jimwolf19 |

Made a reservation on Open Table stating specifically that we needed access and a table for a person that uses a wheelchair. Made it to the restaurant only to find that the only entrance has multiple stairs. This is not noted on their website and the restaurant, despite having our request and phone number, did not call to let us know of this unforgivable oversight in today's day of age. They are vulnerable to lawsuits for such today, fortunately for them, I do not have the interest in pursuing such matters.

New Neigborhood Restaurant

By saramatthews |

Trattoria Momo is new to the old neighborhood that is Mt.Airy and among several new restaurants and businesses recently opened on Germantown Ave. Small, chicly casual, decorated in warm earth tones and local artists' works on the wall, it's perfectly lovely inside. The food is upscale fine Italian - expect risotto not lasagna. And expect to enjoy it. Its only drawback is it's unusually loud for a small quiet neighborhood restaurant. If you prefer quiet dinners, go on a weeknight. On a Saturday night this new restaurant is packed with old customers who've already declared it their favorite restaurant.

Tasty, creative Italian

By Anita B |

Had a great dinner last night (our second time) at Trattoria Moma. Our party had the Fettucine Caprese, pan-seared salmon and orecchiette, all delicious. The pasta is home-made. The appetizers were quite tasty as well -- a special of smoked mozzarella with roasted peppers and spinach, a creamy gazpacho that was cucumber-based, and arugula salad. The restaurant is small and was quite crowded and noisy on a Saturday night, but worth it. Wonderful neighborhood spot.

Another EXCELLENT Trattoria Moma meal!

By Lee B |

We went for my.birthday, which should tell you something about how I feel about this restaurant. Our waiter, Nick, took great care of us (as usual) as did our waitress, always at the ready with fresh ground pepper. But the food... my God, the food! This chef knows his chemistry! Homemade chicken sausage with goat cheese, over broccoli rabe and sprinkled with pomegranate. Homemade fettuccine with pesto, sun dried tomatoes and artichoke hearts. YUM! My husband had the homemade gnocchi and loved it (he’s half Italian, so knows his food)! Love it so much had second (selfish) thoughts about writing a review as I don’t want to have a hard time getting a table!

Perfection on a Plate! And Gluten-free pasta!

By CarolZelda |

I have eaten here three times now and each meal has been delicious using fresh ingredients, good presentation, and innovative food selections. The appetizers are creative and diverse. I love the atmosphere of a small restaurant. The service is excellent and waitstaff friendly. I live almost an hour away but it is worth the drive. Portions are generous and they are very attentive to following Covid guidelines. I needed a gluten-free meal and they have gluten-free pasta which tastes amazing!

First, but not last time at Trattoria Moma

By phillydave1950 |

Had a wonderful meal at Trattoria Moma over the weekend. Nice menu, a bit adventurous, and the food was well prepared and tasty. Attentive service from Adam and some nice chit chat with the manager Nick over a few menu typos were part of the general good spirit at Moma. Warm and comfortable inside, this BYOB offers a nice range of salads and pastas....and some delicious fish as well. looking forward to returning.

Outstanding local restaurant

By John L W |

Have visited twice within 2-3 weeks: a great find, superb high-quality small Italian BYO restaurant. Fairly new in resurgent Mt. Airy neighborhood, excellent menu. Fixed price option @ $35 cash - antipasti, primi, secundi plus dessert. Plan to return soon.

Wonderful Mt Airy restaurant

By Christopher L |

Went with two other couples, all long term friends. They served us excellent food with friendly service and let us just enjoy the evening. Highly recommended!

Like going to my mamas!

By s w |

Greeted by their warm-hearted manager, I know he really wants us to enjoy our visit. And it's not just good food, but the cozy atmosphere, with neighbors at the other tables, everyone savoring a good bottle of BYOB wine and the freshly made pastas and other Italian treats. This isn't a cool professionally-run restaurant enterprise. It's homey, delicious, hand-made, and feels right at home in Mt Airy - there are still kinks they need to work out, but hope they don't work them all out anytime soon, because there'd be no way there'd ever be a table available!

Local, intimate, Italian

By JKL |

A Saturday evening dinner at Trattoria Moma for six (two high school juniors and two couples) was delightful and fun. The server (Thank you, Jen!) was attentive, friendly and helpful in guiding us through the menu and the specials. She was ready to uncork our wine and she brought out champagne glasses when we were ready to make a toast over some champagne. The food came promptly and there was something for everyone, including the three vegetarians and the others. The pasta was done perfectly ("al dente") and the side of broccoli rabé was seasoned with the right amount of garlic. Make your reservation several days in advance as it can be crowded on a Saturday evening; despite the numbers of people, the noise level in that intimate space was reasonable. We'll definitely come back.

Great Food, Gracious Host, Tiny Portions, Outrageously Noisy

By SoupsOn9 |

The food at TM is outstanding and the host is first rate. However, the portions were tiny. Example: Scallops appetizer was only 2 medium scallops for $12. Entree portions were also way below what one might expect, especially in this price range. The noise level is unconscionable. At a table for 2 with faces less than 2 feet apart, we had to almost shout to be heard. Immediate attention must be given to sound absorbing ceilings and other sound-deadening techniques. Also, prices of specials should be given without being asked for, especially when the specials are 40% or more higher than most entrees.

Nice little find

By Don L |

We have eaten here twice - and the food has been quite good. BYOB, fresh pasta, nicely prepared dishes, and willing to consider non-menu requests. Special with clams and red snapper was tasty.

Charming little trattatoria

By Stacia F |

You'd pay double for this quality and artistry in restaurant located in Center City. We loved the Roast Beets & Goat Cheese appetizer, the special Lobster Ravioli with Scallops and Tiramisu. Every course was a WOW in presentation and taste. Congenial service, cozy ambience, a wonderful addition to the community.

What are you waiting for

By Buggy baby |

This was my second visit to Moma and just like the first, everything was perfect. Fresh delicious food, creative presentation, great attentive (handsome) service, romantic cozy atmosphere and reasonable prices. I am very picky and chose Moma for my sweetheart's birthday dinner and we were not disappointed. If I lived in the area I would eat here once a week. Go already

Inventive Italian

By Stuart R |

We have been fortunate to dine here many times. The menu contains many items that are unusual and wonderful. This is a hidden gem, busy on weekends but during the week it is usually not too crowded (Tuesday, Wednesday).

No excuse for bad ingredients

By David S |

The restaurant atmosphere is cozy but noisy. The service is amateurish but kind. We were a table of 6 persons. Two of us had the lamb special. It was special but for all the wrong reasons. The lamb was actually mutton and 75 percent fat. I started with the clams which were extremely sandy. All pastas came with watery sauces. Two people ate the duck which they said was very good. No one liked the eggplant rollatini. I would like this restaurant to be good but for that to happen they need to cook down there sauces, season dishes and use better ingredients.

Great dining as sensible prices; fab BYOB

By ObiePowers |

Two meals which were very well constructed. The lamb special was lovely. Ambience is really nice, just a dozen tables, good accoustics and decor. Service was also great. Free appetizer of fresh bread and olive oil dip really regional and delightful. Fabulous value and we are going back with friends next time.

GREAT NEIGHBORHOOD FIND

By jagman8f |

I typically eat in center city and this place is an outlier in, I believe, Mt. Airy. My dinner partner, who lives in Elkins Park, picked it as being equally convenient for each of us. The room is small and underdecorated but the table spacing is reasonable and, at least on a Tuesday night, not overly noisy. The menu covers a broad range of Italian. My partner had a trout special which she pronounced terrific. I ate mushroom risotto which was creamy, tender, and full of mushroom flavor. Service was friendly and efficient, performed by the very welcoming owner. BYOB. Prices were quite reasonable. Street parking was readily available and the Allen Lane station on the Chestnut Hill West line is perhaps a less than ten minute walk. Altogether, a very pleasant experience.

Amazing dining experience, every time!

By essie55 |

Last night my husband and I took dear friends with us who had never been to Trattoria Moma. We had spoken very highly of the restaurant but they had never had the pleasure of dining there. We had 4 different entrees with each one completely fresh, delicious and great portion sizes. BTW- Very weight watcher friendly. Even though completely satisfied and full, I found myself wanting more. Our appetizers were amazing also. We had followed the chef from a previous establishment near our home. Desserts are light and perfect. The restaurant is SO worth traveling for! Kudos to Chef Istrefi and the entire staff.....Can't wait to go back !

Extraordinarily good Italian food in Mt Airy

By AshesToProveIt |

My wife and I and friends have gone to Moma six or seven times in the last three or four months. The food has been wonderful, and has been getting even better as time goes on. The restaurant, a BYOB, is located on the east side of Germantown Ave in Mt. Airy, between Mt. Airy and Mt. Pleasant Streets. It is relatively small - probably seats about 40 people at most. Service has always been prompt and friendly, although on a couple of occasions the food served was not exactly what was ordered - even in that situation, the food was so good we did not care. Items we particularly liked are the grilled calamari salad, the caprino (roasted beet and goat cheese) and the lamb sausage. The pastas are homemade and phenomenal - sausage broccoli rab, wild mushrooms and ragu. We would also recommend the seafood mix and salmon, which are also outstanding, as is their Osso Buco. This Sunday night I had lamb medallions served perfectly with brussels sprout and potatoes in demi glace sauce. We have never had a less than superior meal at Moma. Although small, it is not too loud to be heard, although on busy weekends the noise level climbs but is still OK.

Absolutely our favorite place.

By Dwaine S |

The food is simply amazing. Not only is the home made pasta is so light and delicious, but everything here is perfectly prepared and tastes amazing. We have tried almost everything on the menu, and everything is AMAZING!!!!

Everyone Raved!

By Don L |

Our group of six selected the prix fixe, Sunday evening dinner option, and walked away raving about EVERY dish!! Appetizer, pasta, entree and dessert were all good - and you could pick any item on the menu (no specials). Portions were a tad smaller than if we had ordered regularly, which made for a perfectly filling meal with just enough room for dessert. Flavors were exquisite; meats were perfectly done; sauces were apportioned perfectly.......one of the better meals we've had anywhere, all for a MORE reasonable price. ($35/pp - cash). Loved the squid ink pasta, and the veal was perfect!

WOW

By pbaccash26 |

The food was out of this world and so light and flavorful hard to believe it was Italian so delicate and lovely. There were so many choices on the menu and additional specials I had a hard time making up my mind.

Fabulous food and service twice in 1 week!

By Snarth |

I loved my first dinner at Trattoria Moma so much that I came back with different people a few days later. Everything we ate both times was superb. Grilled eggplant stuffed with mozzarella and all the fish dishes were standouts. All appetizers were wonderful as well. The menu is very imaginative, offering interesting twists on familiar meals. Service was outstanding. Elena made our night the first time by adding all kinds of special touches to a birthday celebration. The young man who served us the second night was also excellent. We will come back here again and again.

Fantastic neighborhood gem

By Jaime1221 |

I loved this restaurant. Quaint and small in the charming Mt Airy neighborhood. I would never have known it was there without open table. Definitely get reservations. A few parties were turned away. I had the pasta Bolognese and it was the best I have ever had. BYOB is an added plus.

Great value in West Mount Airy

By Jeff E |

Tattoria Moma is a small Italian restaurant in the West Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia. My wife and I have eaten there many times and the food is consistently good and the service professional and pleasant. On Wednesdays and Sundays you can have the $35 prix fixe menu which is a real bargain and will not leave you hungry. You get an appetizer, a pasta course, a main course, and dessert. We always need to take home our cannolis. Our favorite entree is the the branzino filet with lemon fettichini. For the pasta course, I like the lamb ragu over papardelli and my wife prefers the squid ink pasta with seafood. We recommend this restaurant constantly to our family and friends.

We had been away for a while so our first stop when we got back to town was Moma. The food is ALWAYS delicious, fresh, and perfectly prepared. And the service is great. This is our favorite place to eat in PA.

AMAZING food, and BYO makes it perfect

By Dwaine S |

Went to Trattoria Moma again, and had the Striper Bass special. It was simply delicious. Cooked perfectly, and just the right amount of fish. And the fennel "sauce" was delicious with the fish

for the pasta's people

Service was very good. food is ok, I did not find anything very special, but all appetizers were good. Pasta was also very good.

Lovely little BYOB with great food

By phillycnm |

Went on a saturday night and it was jammed. Nice neighborhood restaurant with great food. Grilled calamari appetizer and chicken sausage appetizer were fabulous. Grilled Romaine side is a must-have. We had a special pasta with lobster that was delicious. BYOB is a bonus.
