Great Pizza

By TravelinJabbo |

We ate here after a few hours in the museum. I suppose we each have different criteria regarding what makes a good pizza. I don't eat pizza often, but when I do I want it to be great; this was great. The crust was thin and slightly chewy, a thin layer of cheese and sauce, and spicy sausage or pepperoni. Sorry to disagree with a recent reviewer, but this pizza was perfect! Unfortunately, the day we were there was too cold to sit outside, but the tables by the river looked lovely. Ceasar salad was excellent also. If you're at the museum, this is a good choice.

Great Location But Missed the Mark

By Brandy g |

Tre Trattoria is known for its Tuscan-inspired dishes, offering everything from house-made pastas to wood-fired pizzas, all in a stylish and modern space at the San Antonio Museum of Art. This was my first time visiting since the restaurant moved from its Broadway location to its home at the museum, and unfortunately, it wasn't quite the seamless dining experience I remembered from before. We arrived on a Tuesday evening with a 7 PM reservation and were seated immediately in a mostly empty dining room--just two other tables inside and three tables out on the patio. Our server, though kind and apologetic, let us know they were short-staffed that evening, with only two servers handling the floor. This led to long waits for drinks, food orders, and the arrival of dishes, making the dinner feel disjointed. Food-wise, we started with the burrata, which was delicious and easily the highlight of the evening. It was creamy and flavorful, a great start while sipping on an Aperol spritz. For my main course, I went with the goat cheese pizza and added pancetta, following the server's recommendation. It was okay--not bad, but nothing standout or memorable. I ended the meal with the Nutella 3x dessert, which used to be my favorite part of the meal back when Tre Trattoria was on Broadway. This time, though, it didn't quite hit the same notes. It was still good, but something about it just felt a little off--maybe the texture, the flavors, or the overall execution. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but it wasn't the show-stopping finish I'd anticipated. While Tre Trattoria has a great reputation and a stunning location at the museum, this visit fell short of what I've experienced in the past. I hope this was just an off night, but I'm not sure I'll be rushing back anytime soon.

Great Potential

By Mike S |

Fantastic location in a previously operated restaurant. Right on the River and within the grounds of the San Antonio Museum of Arts. It has a separate entrance but needs directional signage and better lighting at night. Love the building. The food was typical Jason fare but some of the new items like the bisque was fantastic. Servers were just getting acclimated to the newness of the restaurant and he just hired a Sommelier to assist with wine. I’d give it 5 Stars but it is still a work in progress.

Late evening dinner

By JMayinPA |

The bread with the pulled mozzarella was a bit too salty. Very good entrees, crispy salmon and fettuccine with duck and a very nice Nutella x 3 dessert that was just right to top off the dinner.

Lovely!

By LucyJojo |

This restaurant is charming. The food was delicious. The trout is an enormous portion of perfectly cooked fish. The skin is crispy but suffered from a heavy hand with the salt shaker in the kitchen. Everything else was superb. The artichoke app was enjoyed by all. The Caesar salad was fresh and crisp. The Nutella dessert was extremely rich but heavenly. The service was attentive yet delightfully unimposing. I will definitely return.

Good food, great atmosphere, pesky gnats

By No T |

Dinner with a friend: burrata with fruit and aged Saba, seasonal salad featuring beets, cumin ravioli with short rib, and goat cheese-pistachio-balsamic pizza. Burrata was delicious with perfectly grilled bread, nice fruit-sauce, but no sign of Saba. Salad had a few slices of beet, but truly featured spinach and Meyer lemon dressing. The dressing was the star. Ravioli dish was unusual. Good but wouldn't order again. Pizza was good, but dripping with balsamic. Could have been great with half the balsamic...the plate was soaked under the pie and slices were dripping. Too much of a good thing. Service was good; Paul seemed unsure of himself but he did a good job. Pesky gnats bothered us all night, dive-bombing the wine.

Not as Good as Scuzzi's Itialian

By Dave H |

I really wanted to give Tre Trattoria more than 3 stars, but I just can't do it. We went during restaurant week and ordered from the special menu. We ordered wine and the first faux pas was serving the winer in a short water type glass. I looked around the restaurant and others had wine in stemware. Did someone forget to wash the stemware or do they just not have enough. The beets in the antipasta were very tasty as was the caprese with fresh mozzarella. You would think an Italian restaurant would serve a nice crusty bread with butter or olive oil. Not here? No bread was offered. I has the salmon entree that was good. My wife had the chicken which was nothing special. For dessert I has the vanilla poundcake wirth basil mascarpone. I had high hopes, but this was a dessert that appeared to be made hours ago and left in the refrigerator. The cake was cold and the mascarpone stiff. I would expect more from a Jason Dady restaurant. Maybe he is spread too thin to keep watch on the quality. Scuzzi's Italian is definitely a better choice for Italian in San Antonio.

My husband and I dined at Tre Trattoria based on the recommendation from the concierge at our hotel. We used a coupon from the hotel to get a free appetizer as well. The appetizer (lemon ricotta bruschetta with tomatoes and micro basil) was excellent. I ordered cauliflower ravioli with red onions and sausage, in a brown butter sauce and my husband had the gnocchi with a spicy red sauce. My husbands was delicious, and I would have eaten that happily. My ravioli was served to me without the sausage, which I didn't realize until I was almost done. I really missed that part of it, since the ravioli was very creamy and one note without the spicy and saltiness of the sausage. When I notified the server, he was very apologetic and said he was sorry many, many times. He brought us a complementary dessert to make up for the lack of sausage. Again, it was very one note (chocolate mousse with a chocolate ganache cake). Good for about thee bites, then was too chocolatey and rich. Could have used a fruity gelato or something to pair with the cake instead. In the end, just would have preferred the sausage on the original dish and no dessert. Service was good and attentive, with the server doing the best he could. Meal was very expensive, with the total bill for two of us being over $50. Portions did not reflect the price at all. I got five ravioli and husband got about 15 gnocchi for $15 each entree. Would pass on this and try higher ranked Italian restaurants.

A World Class Dessert Can’t Fix Abysmal Service and Marginal Food

By pina3013 |

We came here for lunch on a Saturday and the location away from downtown but still overlooking the San Antonio River was nice. The dessert we had, a soft shortbread type cake with a lemon ricotta cream filing on top and sweet glaze, was nothing short of phenomenal. One of the best desserts I ever had and surely the best on this trip. That’s the good news. The bad - even that amazing dessert can’t get me to come back here for anything else. Foremost, the service is atrocious. 35 minutes wait to get two drinks. No, not mixed drinks. Just two sodas. Overall lunch took 1 hour and 45 minutes. Lunch. Just lunch. And all we got were two appetizers and one main course. Plus the dessert. My wife ordered coffee. We cancelled it. We had already finished dessert and 20 minutes waiting for coffee after waiting already almost two hours for lunch, you just want to scream. No...it wasn’t too busy. When we left there were two tables. That’s it. No...they weren’t understaffed. These folks just don’t really pay attention and that’s it. Gotta own it. As for food, it’s nothing to write home about. The white beans appetizer was terrible and obviously made by a cook, not a chef and not someone who knows what to do. It was a plate of white beans with spices that someone I guess squeezed a shot of lemon over. Bland, flat, overly basic, it was desperately under-spiced and needed a ridiculous amount of salt and pepper to eat, something the cook/chef should know by now. My burrata was good. Better than most. My wife’s fish was good. Not better than most. Overall, this is an ok place for food, a good place for location and atmosphere and a horrific place for wait and service. It’s right by the art museum. Same property even. If I was at the museum I’d come back here just for that dessert. But I’d never come back for anything else. Too little for too long a wait.

Unfriendly greeter

By Matt W |

We were looking forward to eating at Tre after viewing Art at San Antonio Art Museum, It never surprises me when a place is supposed to have good food but when you start at front door with some young man not smiling or does not greet you and you can tell he is not happy about even being at work. I finally said table for two and he looked at me like i was a alien , he told me is was 30 min wait plenty of tables and not enough staff,Jason Dady you should look at your staff service and food not that good. By pass this place.

Great Lunch

By AaronFWA |

Really a superb lunch with great view of the riverwalk..service a bit disappointing but well worth visiting

Wonderful vegetables

By PurplePaloma |

I wouldn't normally just order vegetables, but today at lunch a group of us did. They were different, and delicious. I especially loved the beets. The bread was excellent and the dipping oil was unusually good. They had a meatball panini that was tempting. They also have a Sunday brunch that I want to try.

Disappointment

By Susan M |

We went with another couple and were very disappointed. I had been many times before but only in the bar for flatbreads before an event. The restaurant is attractive but the service was super slow and for no apparent reason. My husband's fish was inedible and he sent it back. It was very pungent and oversalted. My Osso Bucco pasta was so strong I could only eat a bit. Our friends were happy with their flatbreads. I guess that's a safe bet.

Good food good service

By Honest |

This place was a little hard to find as it is a little 'off the beaten path' but worth the trip. The food was delicious and the service was exceptional. The waiter was obviously trained or at least had good common sense. He did not touch the top of the glass (one of my pet peeves) and was quite knowledgable of the menu. They did add gratuity on our party of six which I did not care for because I always tip better than what they put unless they do this. I did give a little extra but they left money on the table. Pun intended. The location on Alamo is no longer there. I have asked TA to take it off The chicken is a special only on Wednesday's and the spaghetti and meatballs only on Friday. This was a let down after seeing photos on here I really wanted that chicken.

Oustanding home made pasta! Service warm and friendly

By bailfrm |

I am having lunch @ Tre while I write this review! I had a wonderful salad.....then in to the homemade pasta with Bolognese! It was wonderful and I'm from Philly....we know good Italian! I finished my meal with dessert...again a pleasure to my taste buds. Ignore the negative comments ......this is the best meal I've had in San Antonio. Walk away from the river walk and enjoy the true Gem of San Antonio!

Very average

By Tracy B |

Ordered a glass of wine, since we didn't order a bottle we got small whiskey glass to drink from. The beef cheeks were extremely fatty. The service was not great, he did not appear to care about anything we asked him. Won't be Back

Restaurant on the Boardwalk

By Tina P |

Have been to this place a couple of times with a group of 12 or so for lunch. We are always seated in a private area with a huge table. Service is good as is the food although some portions at lunch may be small. I went during Restaurant Week and ordered the 3 course meal. Had a mozzarella and tomato appetizer which was good and the crispy skin trout which was huge and excellent. I opted out of the desert as I do not eat sugar or flour products. Restaurant has gluten free items available as well.

Great Appetizers, Mediocre Entrées

By JenniferNila |

A friend recommended Tre Trattoria so I had high expectations (not to mention I love Italian food!) We ordered bruschetta and the pull off mozzarella and were given bread with oil prior to our appetizers being served. Those three items were extremely flavorful and tasty. Unfortunately our entrees were a different story. My husband ordered the gnocchi which lacked flavor but was recommended by the server. I had the fettuccine with duck confit which was also a recommendation from the server--I was not impressed with the taste. The menu is very small, and I love to have options. We will not be returning to Tre Trattoria nor will we recommend it to anyone. The service was great, but it just couldn't make up for the disappointment we had with our entrées. We would've enjoyed an evening at Olive Garden much more than our experience with this restaurant.

Yummy dinner!

By Terri W |

My daughters and I enjoyed a fabulous meal with incredible service. It was our first visit to Tre Trattoria, but will now be one of many! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, from our cocktails and wine to appetizers, all the way to the several desserts we sampled! Go!

Not worth it

By jetsetfunseeker |

My husband and I dined at Tre Trattoria last Saturday evening. We ordered a bottle of wine and it arrived with about an inch of dust on it. My husband ordered the parmesan chicken. We expected a nice piece of chicken but it was three pieces of dark meat - no breast - deep fried with cheese sprinkled on top. He had indigestion the remainder of the evening. I ordered the goat cheese pizza and I enjoyed it very much. I would not recommend this place for the price. I recommend you dine at one of the many fantastic eateries on the Riverwalk before dining here.

We went to Tre Trattoria with a large group of extended family. It’s a beautiful restaurant with a long bar, and tables in the rear. Sitting at a long table, we ordered lots of different things and shared them family style. My favorite thing were the grilled brussel sprouts.....they were delicious! Some of the other things we ordered were good and some not so good. Being from the South, I know my fried chicken.....theirs was not to my liking. Our waitress was delightful though!

Absolutely perfect

By Leslie N |

The waiter couldn't have been better. He god all of our "Harry met Sally " orders right. He brought out this plate of goodies because the chef said it would take our order longer. The food was all delicious. I have been here several times and it is always good.

Horrible

By Mitch M |

This place is overrated. Snobby with bad food and an average wine list. We waited to be seated in a restuarant that was half full. Our waiter was not available and weak and the food was not fresh and way over salted. This is a restuarant in decline.

ARTFUL EATING

By Marilyn M |

Even if you're not much of a museum person, at least go to this restaurant located behind the museum. The food is gourmet worthy, & yet the staff are anything but stuffy - very friendly & down-to-earth. If you can reserve a table on the River Walk, you'll have a true San Antonio experience. Between the delicious food, friendly service, & unique setting, you're in for quite a treat.

Great Evening and Meal

By BluePlate-Now |

My first visit here and it was great. I will be back. The service was excellent and staff flexible to personal requests. We started with the special charcuterie playe and it was wonderful and enough for the 4 of us to share. All the meals were great. I had the duck confit fetticinni and it was wonderful! We had a side of golden beets and a special of the night of okra. Both were great but the okra was a standout! Wine list is very. The prices are very reasonable! Great place for an eveing meal with friends or as a couple!

Always fun AND delicious

By Roxanne |

This is an all time favorite in San Antonio. A lot of unusual flavor combinations. Great place to go with a group. Pizza always good.

good but used to be better

By Carolina M |

and the service has decreased with the food quality, not sure if they are not getting enough patrons because of all the construction at the Witte, but this restaurant used to be spectacular and it is now at average.

Consistently Delicious Food

By texastraveler108 |

Each of my visits to Tre Trattoria have resulted in consistently delicious meals. We recently tried the Pappardelle Bolognese and the house made warm mozzarella with toasted bread. These items could not have been better, even in Italy! On Fridays they serve wonderful Waygu meatballs with a nicely flavored tomato sauce. The service is also consistently well above average. This is one of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio.

Good, but...

By Kate J |

This restaurant is located outside the San Antonio Museum of Art so is accessible after hours. It is adjacent to a quiet part of the river walk and has great outdoor space. My only criticism is the pasta dish (delicious) called bucatini was not accurate because the pasta was something else. They said the menu needed updating and I agree. Wine by the glass was expensive and they did not serve bread or bread sticks which are standard in true Italian restaurants.

Great Italian in the Middle of 50 Mexican Food restaurants

By xrayMD |

I took several of my employees here for dinner while at a meeting. The specailty drinks were very good. The "Refresher" was a hit with the ladies and the husbands enjoyed the margarita, martini's and Tequela. We had the pulled to order Mozzarella. Awesome. Make sure to ask for extra toast up front, it will go fast. We also shared a spicy Peperoncini pizza. Great choice as well. The other dishes share were the mussel's, Tagliatelle and mushroom pasta, polenta and brussels sprouts. All delicious and all gone! Had to have dessert! Nutella X3 and the Ricotta cake was a great way to finish the night. I would recommend this place anytime you are in San Antonio and are tired of Mexican food.

Great place after browsing the art museum

By ClareBear5532 |

We had decided we wanted to try this restaurant for lunch after seeing the Spanish Art exhibit, and we were not disappointed with the food or the service! Our only complaint is that there is no timing between courses at all! We had ordered an appetizer (the artichoke--delicious, by the way!) and had split an entrée. We had barely had 3 bites of our appetizer when the entrée and salad were presented! What??? And there were plenty of tables available, so it's not like there was a need to rush the patrons to flip the tables...this was the only disappointing part of our visit here. I notice from reading other reviews that we are not alone in having experienced such a rush of food presentation. By all means, visit this place after roaming through the museum...just don't order the entire meal at one time!

Amazing!

By G. B. |

I have traveled significantly for the past 20 years. In 2013, I visited Tre Trattoria in San Antonio, it was incredible and left an impression. Over the years, I have scheduled "customer meetings" just so I could fly back to San Antonio to eat here. My last trip was in 2015. An opportunity came up to attend a conference in San Antonio, and I jumped on it. As soon as we left the airport we headed straight to the restaurant. The new (to me) location was difficult to find (not from here), but well worth the search. From the minute we arrived the staff was attentive and friendly. Drinks were never empty (almond soda... TRY IT!), really enjoyed the staff. The food was better than I remembered. Hand pulled mozzarella, bruschetta, gnocchi (WOW!), and the Nutella dessert were all simply perfect. Thousands of restaurants, thousands of miles, multiple countries... sincerely, this is my favorite restaurant. You will not be disappointed. Only feedback: the prices on the receipt did not match the menu prices. If it was $1-2, no big deal. But one item was listed as $19, but rang up as $25. The other was $18,on menu but rang up as $23. Traveling on an expense account, so this meal may raise an eyebrow. Everything was too wonderful to complain about. BUT, menu prices need updated ASAP. Thank you, Tre Trattoria! I hope it is not another 10 years before I can come back!

Great Risotto

By LAHust |

Such a nice restaurant. Very nice caesar salad, but big! Great risotto which we all shared and enjoyed. Comfortable bar with the game on. Overall, a very nice place. Menu changes. So, keep coming back.

Culinaria at Tre Trattoria

By Bette D |

Culinary week in S.A. brought special recipes. Shredded chicken a mint ragu was a wonderful combination. The Caeser salad first course was full sized. Even though I am a S.A. Museum of Arts member, there was NO expectation of a discount. The previously mentioned food was only $15. Dessert called Nutella x3 was offered for an additional $5 ($9 usually). Everything was exceptionally yummy. Chef Jason Dady is the wiz; he has been on the Food Network competition. Service was good and other wait staff came to help. Would definitely return outside of Culininaria

Best Italian Food in San Antonio

By Laura M |

Great atmosphere, great food, great wine list. If you're looking for the best Italian food in SA, this is your place.

Long time fans quite disappointed

By Carl T |

Four of us who have considered Tre to be our favorite restaurant in SA for years were quite disappointed as a result of dinner last night, 6.29.18. The place is fine. Still centrally located, close to where we live. The setting is beautiful, on the Riverwalk. The building is also beautiful. We are seated in the back, in the corner. Pass dirty dishes on the way to the table. Have windows to look out on the grounds. The table is not covered with a table cloth. It is fake wood, plastic top. I do not have a fork. Instead of fork, a big spoon. Three of us have no knife. Kind of comical. We order four cocktails. Two extra, extra dry martinis. Just a dot of Vermouth. They are not dry. The taste is of Vermouth, not vodka. We send them back and I go to the bar to show the bartender what a dot of Vermouth means. At first I cannot find the bar. I ask the waitress and she shows me the bar. It is tiny, set up on the open kitchen counter. We really liked the bar in the previous location. we order a bottle of red wine and two glasses. Glasses are cloudy and dirty. My wife sends them back and we get replacements. No more Brussels sprouts. No more grilled radicchio salad. No more couscous. No explanation, even though we asked. Wait person read the specials, as if she was learning them for the first time, along with us. No description beyond her notes. My wife orders Calabrian Casarecce with Little Neck clams. No Little Neck clams. Not even chopped Little Neck clams. The menu in the restaurant says with rapini. No rapini. Substitution without notice of broccolini. We order market salad, which is broccolini salad. The broccolini is undercooked. Friend orders roasted chicken, for the first time; never ordered at the old location. Chicken is tough and tasteless. Our friend adds pepperoncino and the olive oil mixture for the bread to give it some flavor. Other friend orders sweet corn and basil risotto as an entrée. Risotto is watery, not creamy. Kind of soupy. Table not cleared for quite awhile. No visit by management so that we could tell them about these problems. We have always ordered dessert. Not tonight.

Reserve a Patio Table

By Alex D |

My wife and I had dinner there last night and the temperature was nice enough to sit outside on the patio. The restaurant is on the banks of the San Antonio River and it is interesting to watch all the people and their children and pets enjoying walks, runs, and rides on the beautiful River Walk. We hadn't seen this urban part of the river before. I had tne caprese with roasted tomatoes and basil oil and fresh basil and the crispy skin trout. The mozzarella is homemade and the trout was fantastic. My wife had wild boar ragu with fresh pasta, also delicious. We each had their excellent Pinot Gris. Also ask for their hot and crispy Italian bread. This was our first time at Tre but there are many more items that we would like to try. Great restaurant.

We went for restaurant week and this place is fabulous !! Once you walk in there is an inviting ambience and an eclectic giant chandelier. I had the best Caprese salad and tasty pasta bolognese, topping it off with a Nutella dessert ! Wonderful lunch !

NYC prices for down home food

By migrider2016 |

We are San Antonio residents who travel quite a bit. Two of us had a glass of Proseco, each had a small salad, and split the steak and added a bowl of squash. With tip, the bill came to $100. No bread. The room was very cold and the service nice but so-so. The meat was pretty tough for what was termed Waygu beef. Nothing special. Inside there is no special view. You are on the River but from inside can only see the balconies of some high end condo. No shirts and gym clothes were out drying and that was good. The chef is much celebrated in San Antonio but the tastes and food were really quite bland. Ok but nothing special.

Truly Italian

By Eddie B |

If in San Antonio for vacation & you are eating all your meals @ restaurants on the River Walk do yourself a favor & leave that scene for a local Italian restaurant w/an exceptional menu. I had squid ink bucatinni w/arugula & octopus. After a very engaging conversation with the wait staff I decided to see if the Chef truly knew how to best use squid ink in pasta. The unequivocal answer is YES! The wine list is very diverse in Italian selections. The wait staff was attentive & engaging. Also shared the home made mozzarella w/my wife & I would recommend it. I would try the Burrata if you the opportunity . Go for a truly good Italian dinner.

Wonderful dinner on the River!

By MTE0907 |

The food, atmosphere and service were perfect. We really enjoyed it! We will definitely be back. Our table was outside on the river and although it was a hot day, it was cool under the balcony. They also had fans. It was a very relaxing place to eat. We enjoyed everything!

A bit disappointed!

By chiefqueen |

Granted, we dined here the last few days of their operation in this location. I understand that they will be in the Hops House at the New Orleans Museum of Art beginning June 1st. The bread with seasoned olive oil was to die for! Caesar salads were just all right--nothing special. I had the grilled trout, and my husband had the pasta with bolognese. The trout was interesting, but the taste was a bit "off" to me. I don't think it will be offered at the new establishment. The bolognese was good, but not outstanding. Service was excellent! We definitely wish them well and will give them another shot in their new digs!

I'll come back! I don't say that often

By Tony4Life |

My son arranged this location for our lunch. He's graduating from college and wanted us to have a nice late lunch before the ceremony at 6pm. It was a perfect choice. The food, wine, and service is exemplary and I will make sure to come back whenever possible. I'm from Fort Worth and I'm pretty picky about restaurants I recommend no matter where I am, this is one that I'll want to come back to whenever I'm back in San Antonio!

Pricey but worth it!!!

Had a family reunion in town. Had a wonderful meal and very relaxing. Excellent service and good wine selection. Will be back!!

Best food I have ever had.

The food was absolutely the best and most delicious I have ever had. We were there on New Years Eve and it was extremely expensive. Not sure of the everyday prices

Great Service - But...

By shadow17 |

We were celebrating our 48th Wedding Anniversary and have always had excellent meals and service at Jason Dady's restaurants, which include Tre Trattoria in Alamo Heights. We noticed that the restaurant was quite warm and noted it to our outstanding waiter, Eric. He brought a fan near our table, but that only moved already warm air. At the end of the dinner we all had water running down our backs. Our dinners were quite good except for the "Crispy Trout" which my wife ordered (our daughter was in town from Seattle so she joined us). My wife noted that, after tasting the Trout, "her taste buds were really jumping". I tasted the Trout and it was totally over salted plus the pesto or whatever other seasoning that was on the fish was just plain bad. My daughter had the Sea Bass and i had the Parmesan Chicken - both were excellent. Eric provided outstanding service!

Love their crispy trout. Beautiful location on the SA River. Interior is lovely, too. Service could have been a little better, but when we asked for something, it was promptly brought to the table.

A Hidden Gem--a couple miles from the downtown bustle off of Broadway.

By Daniel H |

No, really, it's hidden behind some shops and vacancies of front stores but it's been there for a long time. Find it. Make reservations and get in there! TRE is a real trattoria--look that term up. Everything is homemade to perfection. TRE doesn't really need any more traffic, but if you'r a real "foodie" you need to find this place. There are pasta dishes, pizza and the like. We had four perfectly prepared dishes. I had the lamb " osso bucco" with homemade pasta. If you want steak, go to a steak house.

A Very Good Dinner!

By BluePlate-Now |

Back again for some great food at an early dinner. The smoked pate was excellent and the pasta dishes were excellent as well. We had a great leisurely meal and wine! Highly recommend you enjoy this place for dinner. The wait staff is usually excellent but Heather was definitely not in tune with good service. Never poured our wine, did not bring parmesan cheese for the pasta, did not refill our water glasses or ask how our meal was! Regardless of this one time poor service, the food and wine and ambiance are great! Go and enjoy!

3 out of 4, I Will be Back!!

By sazm42 |

I want to start off by saying I will return. Our group of 7 went during restaurant week and we all chose the Tuscan marinated steak. When I parked I was a little confused where to go as the buildings closest to the street appeared empty. However, we did find the place and it looked very nice inside. They brought out the bread and it was exactly the way I like it, crusty outside yet the inside was soft and flavorful. On small plates they provided a premixed olive oil with cracked pepper and something else and it, too, was flavorful when added to the bread. Some of us ordered Caesar salads and others soup; we all concurred that they were excellent as well. We were really looking forward to our main entrees. When they arrived, the steaks looked nice and juicy. Unfortunately after we all took our first bites, six of seven of us agreed that the chargrilled flavor was overwhelmingly unpleasant. The chargrilled flavor overwhelmed us. That was a great disappointment. We recovered with our desserts. So 3 out of 4 meal items were outstanding. We all took doggy bags with our steaks and it was kind of funny. Out of my sister's pets, the dogs loved the steaks but the cat turned up his nose at it! However, I would like to return one day because I think other entrées might be good.

Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere!

By DrAlliI |

We LOVED our dining experience at Tre Trattoria. We were so impressed by the tasty food and the great service. We loved the atmosphere, too, and if it would have been warmer, sitting outside would have been lovely! We ordered a mixture of salad, appetizers, and entrees off the dinner menu and everything was so delicious! We joked about going back the next night and having the same exact dinner (that's how good it was) and kept referring to our yummy meal throughout our trip. You will not be disappointed, give them a try!

Great atmospere & Fabulous Food

By abigail p |

Very friendly knowledgeable staff answered all of our questions about the wine list and food. The food we order was family style and was a lot for two hungry people. Great side dishes were served with the amazing crispy skin trout. The floor to ceiling windows allow you to look at the lovely greenery that surrounds the place.

The move has paid dividends

By Steve S |

Our 1st visit to the SAMA location. Antipasto consisted of marinated golden beets, canellini beans & a faro salad. The beans were a bit undercooked for my taste but the other 2 were spot on. Entrees of trout, baked chicken & radiators were all delicious. Dessert all around was Nutella & a brownie. Perfect ending. We shall return.

Decline From Broadway Location

By NavyHorn |

We’ve been devotees of Chef Dady’s places since he was a 26 year old wunderkind with The Lodge. “Tre” was a staple for those who live in my near North side community, and with good reason—beautiful space, cool bar, top cuisine, and professional, attentive service. Last night we went to the relatively new home to Tre on the grounds of the San Antonio Museum of Art. After some winding through the grounds, which is pleasant, we came to Tre perched on the high bank of the river—super location, and a really cool, old-San Antonio feel. Had it been cooler out, a table outside would be just the thing. We were seated inside the South dining room in the corner. The room was light and airy, and there were lots of staff on hand for the seemingly few tables, which I took to be a good sign. Our server was nice, but seemed a bit...altered. I had to ask about specials, which were mumbled out such that I had to ask again. I ordered a Campari-soda, which came out as an Italian spritz—no big deal, but it took a while to communicate this to the server. We ordered the fresh, pulled mozzarella with crostini starter, and it was very good—a large portion for three. Before that was half way finished, the salad course was delivered. As I started the salad course the mains (smoke gouda radiatore, gnocchi, spaghetti) were brought out. There was no attempt to time the courses. In our family we loathe being rushed while dining. This was very disappointing. We noticed similar quickness at the tables around us. Either the staff don’t know how to time courses (and to be honest, just remove then prep the next), or they’re turning tables. Either way, unacceptable. We asked for boxes for the largely uneaten main dishes. The served said, “I’ll bring you some boxes.” Collective sigh. Fine dining should not expect diners to box their own food in the dining room. To our surprise the server came and took our plates—relief. He then brought the check...but we were interested in dessert or coffee. It did give us a moment to review the check, which had the ersatz Italian spritz still present. It took some time, but we were able to get his attention, and order dessert (the Nutella dessert was quite good and the lemon ricotta cake was dry). We also asked for check to be corrected. Ultimately when he brought the check we asked after our boxed mains. He went to the kitchen and came back with two very small, rectangular boxes—one with a few gnocchi, one with some spaghetti (no evidence of the remaining meatballs, etc.). We asked about the radiatore. He left and came back with the same type of container that had a piece of cauliflower and about four noodles—seriously, FOUR. It was clear to us at that point our mains had been thrown out, and a few pieces of pasta where thrown into tiny bins to placate us. In the end the service diminished the experience to such a degree, we won’t be returning.

A very attractive restaurant tucked behind stores on Broadway

By Fred N |

While we only had pizza, it was excellent and very similar to what we have enjoyed in Italy. The menu has some excellent selections that we plan to try on future visits.

good pizza

By dwinningham |

The pizza is top quality as well as sides. service is a bit slow and I saw staff placing glasses on table with thumbs inside.

Nice Lunch

By BaeMse |

We took advantage of their very good lunch offerings. My wive had the braised lamb and I had the risotto (vegetarian). Both were flavorful and ample in quantity. Nice wine list and all at a reasonable price. We will come back.

Good Italian Food

By Love2Travel26x2 |

Fresh Italian and a nice variety of your typical Northern Italian fare. Service was very good as was the atmosphere. A bit on the pricey side.

Excellent tastes in a pleasant riverside setting

By hungry2eat |

After taking in the exhibits at the San Antonio Museum of Art (also strongly recommended), we were hungry, and found we could stroll over to a riverfront building on the museum campus to meet our needs. Tre Trattoria exceeded expectations, with its service, delightful tasting lunch and pleasant, relaxing views of the river from our balcony table. The server, Shanee, was gracious and prompt, and we were happy with her suggestion of the Feudi Rose for a refreshing afternoon wine on a summer day. We enjoyed a lunch of small Caesar salads, gnocchi, and spaghetti w/meatballs, and topped it off with coffee for the weary travelers. .

Lovely setting delicious food

By HikerMom58 |

Beautiful setting in an old building by the river... a little challenging to find but well worth it! Risotto and gnocchi were taste sensation! Service impeccable- perfect night out!

Seriously Italian

By BWCville |

We have been going to Tre on Broadway one to two times a year for the last five years or so because it is one of our favorite restaurants in San Antonio, and one of our favorite Italian restaurants anywhere. This time we had the branzino, the kale salad, the eggplant, and the tagliatelle bolognese. All were excellent. The bolognese is authentic, and they do fish just right. The service is intelligent and friendly. It is great for two people or for 25 (we have tried everything in between). Tre has an extensive Italian wine list. We travel 100k/year in Asia and Europe as well as many places in the US, and this is one of the restaurants we look forward to.

On Sunday Night—Just Not up to Par

By FCWall |

Maybe Sunday night is an “off” night. Of a party of five, only one had a very good entree. The Caesar salad was under seasoned, the toast (with melted mozzarella) was so brittle it was painful to bite and the other entrees lacked excitement, just rather bland. One member of the party ordered the market vegetable (squash) which was so physically hot, he not only burned his mouth, but 15 minutes after receiving, it was still inedible. When told to server the only comment was “I will inform the chef” with no apology or offer to remove from tab. There is no doubt the location is great on the San Antonio River, but the menu is very limited and the food just didn’t hit the mark of a highly rated restaurant—but maybe being a Sunday night, it just wasn’t their best.

Great place for lunch while visiting San Antonio Museum of Art

By ClareScottsdale |

We were visiting the San Antonio Museum of Art and it was so nice to be able to walk to a great restaurant with great food. We sat outside and enjoyed the blooming plants and river. I had the potato gnochi with mushroom bisque. It was fantastic! If you love mushroom you will love this entree. I started with the caesar salad which was fresh and tasty. My husband had the Campanelle Bolgnese and he loved the fresh pasta and flavorful sauce. I also ordered the peach Italian soda which was refreshing and sweet. Tre Trattoria made a wonderful luncheon spot while visiting the museum. The service was excellent.

Beautiful place - beautiful food

By gerp_11 |

Tre was recommended by a friend. Not knowing anything about the area, we just said 'OK'. I still don't what what part of town it's in, but get there and experience the place. When someone recommends 'Italian' food to an Italian, it's always iffy because so many restaurants proclaim this heritage and are awful!!

Company Christmas Party Dinner

This restaurant is excellent. The staff was amazing. Friendly and inviting. The atmosphere was really good. Mozzarella is to die for.

Mother’s Day Brunch

By MerloII |

Mother’s Day Brunch 2019 I must admit I had HIGH expectations for Tre Trattoria given it carried the distinguished Dady name, but I must also admit I was a bit disappointed. I spoke with FOH three times (1st to reserve, 2nd to secure with card, and 3rd to adjust headcount) and made it a point to confirm the Mother’s Day menu - every time I was told lunch was full menu, but dinner had a fixed menu. This was great because we preferred the full menu, so imagine our disappointment when we’re we’re told fixes menu only upon arrival. 100% disconnect with FOH was not a good start. As we began our meal I was just taking in the ambience; GREAT ambience with Chef Dady running the pass himself in an open kitchen. We’re San Antonio natives so Chef Dady is not new to us, but still great to see his expert hands running the show on Mother’s Day! Unfortunately as my eyes turned back to the decor at least half of the chairs looked as though they hadn’t been dusted in at least a year. Normally I could move on, but in Chef Dady’s joint, no way..... it a deal breaker but another disappointment. As for the food, the House Italian salad was absolutely perfect....not over dressed, just right. The Classic Caesar salad was unfortunately VERY over dressed. The Corn Bisque however was absolutely out of this world, rich buttery goodness! The second course (shareable), while certainly Italian to its core, felt like a bit of a “cop out.” Sliced fruit with nuts and prosciutto; yes it was good but I guess I just expected more at Tre (my own fault I guess). The Campanelle Bolognese could have been so good, but unfortunately it was severely over salted. It was hard to get past the salt, but the pasta itself was perfect...the salt level just killed the dish. The Gnocchi with mushroom gravy and a fried egg was, well, the best dish of the day! The gnocchi were perfect little pillows, the gravy was just the right amount of creamy, and the fried egg was the perfect temp/consistency. If I had to nitpick I would only say visibly it was a bit dull; once the egg broke and the gravy coated everything it became a bowl of just “gray.” After the first bit the color didn’t matter anymore....I must say it was a great spin on biscuits and gravy! As for dessert I will be brief since I don’t have much of a sweet tooth. The Lemon Ricotta Cake was slightly on the tart side, but the raspberry jam drizzled in top was WAY too tart. The Nutella x 3 was interesting....the tart/sauce was a bit on the sweet side for me but was good nonetheless, and the ice cream was INCREDIBLE! Chef Dady’s reputation certainly precedes him, so while I was a bit disappointed I am willing to chalk this one up to a fixed menu on a high volume day. The restaurant business is tough and unforgiving, and days like Mother’s Day certainly pose unique challenges. I fully intend to return for a shot at the full menu as I have no doubt it will impress, but unfortunately I cannot recommend the Mother’s Day Brunch.

Office holiday party

Outstanding customer experience with a large party. The staff worked together flawlessly. The menu was varied and authentic!!! Seriously will look to have a romantic date here soon

Loved it

By lalalala41 |

isited this place the other day & fell in love !! The ambience is beautiful. The staff is very sweet , patient & knowledgeable. Got the tomato basil soup as an appetizer. So good . Had pappardelle bolognese . It's not on the menu but they made it for me anyway . One of th best bolognese I've ever tasted . The complimentary bread was to die for . I'll will definitely be back & urge all of you to give this place a try

Great spot.

By Dominic23 |

I eat at Tre at least once a month, it's right up the street from my work. I have never been disappointed. The staff is always nice and knowledgeable and the food is always good. The portions can be on the small side, but it's always filling. I feel bad for the construction work they've had to put up with. Definitely worth it though.

Good lunch

By Denise G |

While visiting San Antonio we had googled Italian restaurants in our area. This restaurant came up with good ratings. We decided to go there for lunch and were very pleased with the service and the food that we had ordered. They were very attentive to my nut allergy while preparing salads and entrees. Slightly disappointed with portion sizes for the money.

Disappointed

By Hualani |

During a workshop held at SAMA, I ate lunch in the restaurant one day and ordered a box lunch the second. Because I was extremely disappointed, I ate off the premises for day three. First day lunch, the corn bisque was actually tasty, however my salad with artichokes and leeks was actually just a large plate filled with lettuce! The first to order I was the last to get served a simple salad! Then there was exactly one tiny piece of artichoke one tiny piece of leek in the whole salad. Afterwards, I paid in cash. My change should have been $9.23, however they have adopted the practice of only giving $ change and no coins. Day two box lunch....bag of chips, two pieces of dry, plain bread with turkey. No mustard, no mayo. No effort!!! Won’t be eating at Mr Dady’s restaurant again!

Great eating place overlooking the River Walk

By LondonLockwood |

Doing a stroll of the Riverwalk when we saw Tre .. It’s in the grounds of SAMA .. great spot .. We sat inside as the terrace was completely full but in no way spoiled our visit. Misty was our server and did us proud. We had salads and homemade pastas .. both were delicious.. A great stop off is Tre on a walk . Could have stayed here all afternoon.. Comes highly recommended.. Enjoy !

Dish wasn’t good

By Beth K |

The restaurant is in an interesting building and some of the food was good but inside was too hot / uncomfortable and the gnocchi was terrible. The gnocchi was charred to the point of almost being burned and the sauce had not Gorgonzola flavor. Disappointing experience.

Accommodating, Full menu and Bar

By ZifaZora |

It was so nice "Welcome" from the staff at Tre Tratorria upon a last minute and late evening visit. We had a cocktail at the bar until our table for 8 was ready and our meals were delicious!

A Favorite!

By Kelly B |

One of our favorite restaurants in San Antonio - delicious food. The hardest part is figuring out if we should try something new or just stick with our tried and true favorites (but there are plenty of those)

Exceptional food and service!

By slf540 |

We came for restaurant week but ended up ordering from the regular menu. My husband and I shared a delicious Cesar Salad. He had the pizza with proscuitto and arugula. The crust was perfect. I had the amazing orrechiette pasta with pork belly and shrimp. I was told that it was spicy. I found it to be extremely flavorful but not spicy. We also shared the milk chocolate budino. Overall, the food and service were excellent. We will come again. We have decided to join the Art Museum so we will be invited to special events at the restaurant!

Wonderful meal with friends!

By Bill S |

Have eaten here a couple of times for lunch, but this was my first time for dinner. It was a wonderful evening, excellent service and very good food. Really enjoyed the menu, which encourages ordering a number of smaller items and sharing them with everyone at the table. We had Gnocchi, Roasted Golden Beets, and the Spaghetti and cheese filled wagyu meatball. Nice atmosphere, reasonable prices. I will definitely be back.

They don't honor the 10% discount for SAMA members

By Zell |

Two of us ate at Tre Trattoria today for the first time after reading the reviews and deciding to try it. The on-line advertising as well news articles AND the menu indicates there is a 10% discount if one is a member of the S.A. Museum of Art. We had on our membership sticker PLUS showed our membership card. We were told at the end of the meal that because we ordered the lunch special at $15 apiece which included a salad, we would only be given the 10% discount on the two drinks we ordered. (tea and soda). Looking at the regular lunch menu options we could have had more choices and still ordered a salad for $4.00 and the overall price would have come out to almost the same thing even if we'd order the less expensive entree. If we'd ordered the more expensive entrees, we would have gotten a bigger discount. Granted one does not go to nice restaurants like Tre Trattoria for the discount, but if a discount is advertised, it should be honored! The food was very good (although we had to guess at where the chicken was in the chicken ragu... it was easy to see the pasta), the service was excellent and even though there was an extremely tiny glass for the $3.00 ice tea, it was refilled on a regular basis. We'd enjoyed the food but left feeling that something was off and just not right. So diners, BEWARE!

Beautiful San Antonio Meal

By Patti G |

Awesome, quiet off the River walk but close enough to all tourist attractions. Great selection of Italian and specials were good. Had appetizer (normally don't, due to too much food) special of the day (beef sorry forgot to write down) Yum. Son ordered Pork with bacon jam - YUMMY, I had Gnocchi -perfect. We all 4 tried the 3-way dessert Nutella mousse, OMG WICKED AWESOME. we are glad we split it, very rich but YUMMY

Disappointed. Food was heavy!

By mkh143ek7 |

Went for Restaurant Week to try out a new place and it started out not so great in that the wine list was very limited. Tried two wines and was not a big fan of either. The antipasti appetizer was not what we expected in that it was Faro and Couscous. Second course dishes were good but not great. Service was outstanding with one exception, we were not asked how we wanted our steak cooked. Desserts were really good but heavy. I guess our biggest complaint was that everything was just so heavy and left us feeling blah. We do not expect to return.

My Visit

By Earla M |

My visit was a little weird. I don't think he meant to insult me by saying he could explain the words on the menu if I didn't understand. I think he meant something different, but it was a little iffy. The crispy trout was wonderful. It comes with soup or salad. That's it. So order a side dish. It has pickled onions on top. Leave them on. It adds a depth of flavor. Bravo for that addition. I had the corn bisque by referral from the waiter. It was good. Overall, the atmosphere is great. If you are by yourself, sit by a window so you can see the activity on the river or in the garden. I was not in the best seat for a solo visit. It would be nice for that extra consideration.

A MUST HAVE dessert!

By IslandDragon |

We stopped off for lunch after a trip to the Zoo & Japanese Gardens, which are only a few mins drive away, and were delighted with the menu. I had the home-made, pan seared gnocchi in a Gorgonzola sauce, and my husband had the PLT sandwich (Prosciutto, Mozzarella, oven roasted tomatoes, and lettuce). Portions were generous but not overfilling, meaning we had room for dessert.....and what a dessert. We both had the Nutella x 3 which was just outrageously more'ish. I won't be able to do it justice by describing it so just go & try it yourself :) Very friendly servers, who once they heard we were from out of town were happy to volunteer other good places to eat or visit.

Wonderful lunch, would absolutely go again.

By Terry DellaVecchia |

The food is excellent, the service really good, plus they gave us a wonderful dessert on the house...what's not to like? The Osso bucco was devine... Loved the grilled radicchio salad and you have to get the pulled mozzarella with crostini - to die for!

Tasty food but portion was small

By allabouthappiness |

Everything we ordered tasted great. Though, our entré were small comparing to other restaurants. I had pasta with clams which was delicious. Drinks were okay. Staffs were nice. The restaurant was clean and had nice ambience.

Valentine's Day Massacre

By Mike S |

Wife booked Valentines Day dinner for us, since we hadn't been in a long time. Had to take a 5:45 booking "because that's all they had available". When we arrived there were two other tables. Set menu with wine pairings option. I chose not to, wife did. First course (ended up being the best) was charcuterie tray. Nice selection but just okay. Second was lobster bisque (more like lobster broth). Not lobster and tasted more like the lobster water they used from the next dish. A good bisque is creamy with chunks of lobster. This was clear broth. Next up was lobster pasta. Dish came out with cold uncooked noodles with soggy lobster pieces. Terrible. Sent it back and they didn't bring out another. (Probably just as well). Next up ... steak. Waitress asked if medium well was okay ... to which I replied "is it ever?" Came out medium+. Anyway ... Wife had fish that was good. Dessert was ... I don't even remember. All in all a terrible Valentines Day dinner with below average service. BTW ... Place was still only 1/2 full when we left. (Maybe others just left midway through). Used to be terrific and maybe it was the set menu that threw them off their game ... but it should be easier.

Over priced

By Elizabeth R |

This place was hard to find. The entrance is very inviting but the atmosphere lacked energy. Appetizer platter was horrible. Pasta gets a strong B and pizza was interesting but not great. Good service. I would not return.

Upscale Italian

By Karen E |

Our family of four made reservations for a Saturday evening at 6 pm. We were ushered right in to a beautiful restaurant that exuded warm tones and crisp white surroundings. Waitstaff was pleasant and informative and menu selections were diverse. This was definitely not the kind of place to expect traditional heavy Italian food. All the items were light, fresh, delicious on taste and appropriate portions (not a huge mound of pasta). The chef even delivered one of our dishes and chatted a few minutes. Chocolate melted dessert with Nutella cream was gone in seconds. We'll be back!

Best bolognese and overall great!

By Kindra Z |

Wow! What a gem! The venue is awesome and the food was simply incredible. We had the pizza bianca , bolognese and burrata. I love that they have recognizable delicious wines and the pricing is great. One weird thing is you can’t add protein to the dishes but we shifted our order and now are extremely happy.

Leave the Riverwalk for a great meal

By KennB57 |

It's walking distance from the Riverwalk, but miles away in terms of ambience, quality, and service. We had an excellent meal: split a salad and pasta dish (great bolegnese). Each had a separate entre: pan seared salmon for her - very good. Pan fried pork chop for me - excellent. The crostini for desert was a great finish. Good bottle of wine for $37. Great food, great value, nice server. Try it!

Good (not great) food - poorly run

By houston96 |

Visited here on a Friday night. Got there 30 mins before reservation; thought we would grab a cocktail or glass of wine. There is no bar. So we were told to sit outside on coach area and someone would take our drink order. Someone finally came after 20 mins and dropped of menu, but we could tell he’d never come back. Sat at table on time. Took over 15 mins for waitress to show up. They were already out of a few things at 7:45 pm. Waitress was very sweet but really had no clue. Gone for long periods of time. Etc. Caesar salad was “meh.” Bruschetta bread was good but topping bland. Bolognese was fantastic. Mushroom Rissotto was undercooked and very boring/bland. Pizza was pretty good. Just overall disappointing. So many better places in San Antonio.

Beautiful setting by the river and museum with delightful drink and food options

By Anita W |

There were six in our party. We made reservations - a good idea. We were seated on the deck overlooking the river. It's a quiet part of the river that offered some people and dog watching. We ordered from their signature cocktail menu and had some very inventive drinks. My husband and I split the lasagna, which was one of the evening's specials. It was a huge portion of rich, creamy, meaty lasagna. We took home half and made an adequate lunch the next day. The bacon-wrapped asparagus was delicious. The menu changes regularly to take advantage of seasonal and fresh ingredients. Our server, Isaiah B, was attentive and offered several suggestions when we had questions about what to order. It was a special meal in a special setting. I'd recommend it for an intimate dinner or a celebration.

Geared to tourists not locals

By PrairieManIllinois |

Great food but attitude of management through staff bad. Obviously geared to tourist trade. When we arrived for reservation on cool evening we were first told we’d have to dine outside. At 7 on Saturday we had to accept. We ordered two starters (beets excellent and generous portions) and asked meal not to be piled on top of appetizers. Meals came 3/4 of the way through appetizers so they must have wanted to turn table. The waitperson convinced spouse to add daily vegetable to meal; $16 is a lot for mediocre fibery asparagus with some sauce.

Lovely setting, food was pretty good

By Robert F |

The location of this restaurant right on the extension of the Riverwalk is admirable, yet several previous restaurants have come and gone. It seems to me that the location is just too obscure, hidden inside the Art Museum. They have tried to address that by having their own parking lot and separate entrance, at the east side of the museum. You don’t need to be a member, or pay the museum entrance fee. Apparently there have been other iterations of this restaurant, on Broadway and maybe elsewhere. There was an initial confusion as my Open Table reservation mysteriously asked for six places when there were only four of us. We sat out on the terrace and watched the water Taxis go by, along with pedestrians and people riding those little electric scooters. I ordered the gnocchi, which I found very tasty in its mushroom bisque sauce. My wife would have preferred that they had peeled the tomatoes in her gazpacho, as she kept dealing with little annoying pieces of skin. Her main dish had lots of pasta and not much chicken. She reported that it was okay, but not exceptional. Look at the distribution of their ratings, mostly four stars, That's about right, and still better than most. We were dining with friends we hadn’t seen for a while, so I didn’t even notice the long wait for our dessert. The server apologized and took it off the bill. Thanks. She was attentive to our needs. I was surprised to find that they are open for breakfast. I guess with all of the in town housing in the area (including right across the river), they have potential customers. Maybe I’ll try it sometime.

Good to very good, not our favorite, but we would go back

By Vick31 |

We have tried Sunday brunch at Tre Trattoria in the summer of 2013 and dinner in January 2014. Brunch was good, the caprese salad was my favorite of the things we ordered on that visit, but we liked the Bin 555 Sunday brunch menu better. The Tre Trattoria dinner menu is a-la-carte and they offer family sized options which could be great with a big group, but as a couple we were not interested in that quantity. The fresh pulled mozzarella appetizer was great, pretty great wine-by-the-glass selection & full bar, the pan seared gnocchi was great, the nutella x3 dessert was fabulous (as Jason Dady's Nutella desserts always are), but the side salad consisting of mostly lettuce and gourmet pizza were not anything I would recommend or order again. Service was great both times we went. After eating dinner here, I would want to go back on a warmer evening, sit outside and enjoy an assortment of appetizers and wine, no main course.

Great Atmosphere!!!

By Shyra G. |

My better half and I went for drinks midday and had a great time! Jeff, our server/bartender, did an awesome job ensuring that we were comfortable and pleased with our drinks! He made the freshest drinks and provided great service! We plan to visit for dinner in the future!

Great Little Italian Bistro in the Art Museum

By Walter T |

We were not expecting much but were very pleasantly surprised by the food and ambience at this charming Italian bistro in the San Antonio Art Museum. We ate outside on a patio by the river and shared a Spanish gazpacho and Italian house salad with artichokes and hearts of palm for starters-both excellent. For a main course we had campanelle bolognese, which could have come from Italy-very authentic-no tomato sauce. Plus amiable and competent service. Would go back without the Museum!

Wonderful break in a hectic Holiday Season

By kimmykiddo |

This establishment never fails to please! The food is delicious, the service fantastic.. I love the in house made pasta.. the many different selections of traditional meats and cheeses as well as fantastic pizzas. Two of my favorite things on the menu are the golden beets served cold (and with incredible flavor).. and the goat cheese pizza with caramelized onions and pistachios! On a sunny day the patio is really nice, a romantic and relaxing place

Good Friends Good Food

By dmurphyjt2 |

We arrived around 3:30 which is approximately 30 minutes early for the dinner menu but the waiter was very accommodating and friendly . The restaurant is a little difficult to locate hidden in the back but worth the trip. The setting is comfortable and relaxing but sophisticated elegance. Although we weren't the only customers the arrangement of table etc. made us feel as though we were. Prices are around 17.00 a plate and worth it!loved the lamb! Also, if you're looking for an Olive Garden taste this is not the place. The food is authentic. Both places are good but different styles of food and preparation.

Local Favorite. New Location. Great View and atmosphere.

By AlamoBeerGuy |

Located between the San Antonio Museum of Art and the river. The location is beautiful and the building is wonderfully historic. Dine inside the open and inviting historic brick building or outside with a view of the river. Great atmosphere. The food was good on this visit. This is a locally owned restaurant and is a local favorite.

Tre Trattoria I might Try it Again....

By Jacqueline D |

After watching a "nail biting" Marathon of the "Iron Chef Gauntlet" on the Food Network, I prayed that Jason Dady would be the next San Antonio Iron Chef. Unfortunately his meal was not a favorite of Alton's and he was booted before he could make it to the final two.. IMO he definitely should have been in the final two and the winner chosen really didn't wow me.. Guess the judges loved her meals because now Chef Izard is an Iron Chef... and now after eating MRE's and dissecting Mystery meat during my deployment, I was ready to dine at one of his well known establishments. Ahem... I Digress on to my experience... My Bestie treated me out for a meal and met me at Tre Trattoria. Located downtown off of Broadway, the restaurant was tucked into a little shopping center. Be careful when approaching as I passed it due to some neighboring construction. Walking up, I passed some empty establishments and found the restaurant tucked further back. The scene was intimate and created solitude for diners. The outside dining area was empty but several of the tables were peeling like bruised tomatoes and it was a bit muggy outside. I was greeted warmly upon entering and was stunned by an amazing Glass Chandelier. The restaurant was trendy and a bit cool. I was seated at a cozy booth but had to ask for it to be wiped down due to food remaining in the booth. The Meal: When my Bestie arrived we looked over the lunch menu and decided on the lunch pairing of soup and entree and added a pizza as our Appetizer. The Pizza was okay... it had cheese and pesto but just had a little more grease than I wanted. I decided on the corn soup that was bland with little bits of corn. I really wanted to like it but could not as it was flavorless and tasteless. She didn't mention much about hers but asked that she also be brought a Caesar salad... Entree: I ordered the Campanelle Bolognese that from Yelp photos looked amazing (Deceptive).. This could have been awesome if the meat had any type of seasoning (salt). The pasta was fabulous and fresh but I couldn't get over the lack of seasoning in the meat. She ordered pasta with Duck Confit and again it was lacking in salt.. Such a simple seasoning that can do so much for the taste buds. Please believe I'm not heavy handed on the salt but when there is none it's unmistakable. I will try again but during Lunch when the prices are more affordable. I've read reviews where the price has been a topic of discussion. Miss Foodie

Yuck

By amy |

Bad service, bad food. The only redemptive quality is the River Walk view. The location is great but the food was soooo bad. I think Olive Garden would have been better. The service was also really bad which unfortunately seems to be the norm at a Jason Dady restaurant. We hoped for a beautiful lunch overlooking the River. Instead we got inedible food and a frustrating experience

Pricey and salad mediocre

By Judy S |

The atmosphere was great and the food tasted great; however, our waiter rushed in and out and did not fill water glasses often enough. I ordered the chef's market salad with goat cheese -- was difficult to find the two malted milk ball size pieces of cheese -- adding salmon as a protein made the cost of salad $26. In my opinion it was a high price to pay for such a small salad. No bread of any kind was served with the meal. Dessert was delicious but named so that one thought it would serve three but only had two items. Would like to be able to order chicken with salad. Other restaurants in the are provide more food for the money.

Great Italian Tratorria

By dharmabumster |

Just had dinner at TT last night. Our waiter recommended that we eat family style, so for the 4 of us we ordered 2 salads and 2 entrees and shared. Both the grilled radicchio salad and the Caesar salads were fantastic. The trout was grilled to perfection with a crispy skin and the salmon was terrific. the only reason for the Very Good review and not excellent was that our waiter was trying to get us to buy a $80 bottle of wine without telling us the price until we had to ask. Other than the waiter faux pax the atmosphere and food were great.

Very tasty, but small portions

By Capt_Wyatt |

This place has been consistently good for me, but the portions are small and the service is often very bad. The wait staff just hovers around the back while you wander aimlessly for more water. But tasty food so I would say it is very good. Also good for business meetings.

Bellissimo!

By Rocket Rancher |

Beautiful restaurant. Exceptional food, Dined al fresco on lovely patio. Had the heavenly pumpkin soup, salad, orecchiette with duck confit, and finished the meal with the pear+prosecco cocktail. Excellent restaurant tucked away in a small plaza next to the Witte museum. Surprisingly affordable lunch.

Hidden Gem on Broadway St.

Hidden in the back of a nondescript area on Broadway St. is a wonderful Italian inspired place to eat, that is near the zoo. We were a party of four which included a six year old and were seated promptly. We were there for an early lunch around 11:15 on a Saturday. Our wait person was prompt, knowledgeable and very attentive. Food was outstanding with proper seasoning for authentic Italian. We started with the pulled mozzarella, which was quite tasty and fun to eat. I had the trout, which was prepared to perfection. The others had a PLT, which is an Italian twist on the BLT, using prosciutto. We do go out to eat about two to three times per week and would rate this among the top ten. Loved the decor with the massive glass chandelier in the center of the restaurant. Reminded me of the Murano glass of Venice. I do recommend this restaurant for lovers of Italy.

The Best and the Worst

By Lynussi |

Recently, my husband and I had the most delicious dinner. Their Orecchietta, pork belly, shrimp with a spicy tomato sauce was amazing. We then had the worst . We ordered the Soppresetta Pizza to go. We live directly across the street. When we got it home it was cold, had the appearance of a day old out of the fridge pizza. It had little to no sauce or cheese and the crust hard. One time you will get a beautiful salad, another missing all but the lettuce. We always loved eating on their patio, which overlooks the river. I just wish the food was consistently great.

This one is a winner in our book.

Lovely dining outside on the deck for an early dinner. Our waiter, Eber, was excellent. Cuisine is Italian. Chef Cullen prepared a special vegan dinner for my friend, and he reported it was very, very good. Eber recommended excellent starters and entre's. Wine list is very good and reasonably priced. The other three of us had a variety of dishes, and all were excellent. This owner has other restaurants in San Antonio, and I am looking forward to trying all of them.

Foodie place... so disappointed

By Ryan F |

I am a very reasonable person and believe places should get the benefit of the doubt. However my experience with a 5 course meal with wine pairings was one of the worst meals. Couscous was their Anti-pasta. Gelatinous and lacking a pleasant flavor is the best way to explain what I ate. It just wasn't palatable in any way. I chose the lobster bisque which was full of shells. I usually can forget about the shells however this was probably one of the worst ones I've eaten. Very weird texture and oily. Next was the pasta dishes which we were excited about. Neither of us was impressed. The pasta dish was..... tough and not a good combination. As a food explorer I love trying new foods and techniques however these dishes were poorly executed and the flavors suffered. Not classical My main course was probably the 3rd worse dish I had eaten anywhere. Gnocchi was VERY tough and flavorless. I love fluffy pillows of the wonderful potato dish however this was more like diced cold potato texture. The brown butter sauce was beyond burned. 2 bites and it had to go back. Wine pairings were not paired.... they were thrown together which is a shame as some were good wines. The flavor clashed in several occasions. Overall... I hate to say it but a complete failure on this night. I'm sure other nights the popular owner/chef does a wonderful job but it is very apparent he was not present anywhere to make this a special night nor to approve the food before it left the kitchen. I will try this again and perhaps not on Valentine's Day. Company was great but the food was not up to a Dady place to eat.

Chicken with olives and celery

By Anne C |

Tre's food seems to be tastier since they moved to the Museum of Art on the Riverwalk. Their menu is full of imaginative flavors: Roasted golden beets with orange (which I've had twice now!), white truffle deviled eggs, chicken roasted with herbs, celery, and olives. The service is good and the food is unfailingly tasty. If it's not horribly humid out, their balcony seating is lovely, with nice recorded music (Sinatra's a favorite here), and there's usually a good breeze. The dining room is smallish but not too loud for conversation. Great for couples, groups of friends, or business meals.

Horrible Experience

By Joe C |

The food and service are really bad. It is way over priced for what you get. The only thing edible on a five course dinner was the bread (good). Three of our courses were wrong. Wine pairings were terrible. Two tables left before they got their food because service was so bad. We stayed and regretted it. Complained to the manager and was offered a $20 gift card toward a future meal (on a $480 bill for two people). We will never go back nor will refer anyone.

Fantastic find for foodies with kids!!

By psychdoc00 |

Foodies with kids!!! I always say that having kids did not suddenly make us love Applebee’s. That said, it’s hard to find places that are kid friendly with really great food. Tre Trattoria was exactly that place!! We started with the gnocchi which was perfectly seared and served with tomato sauce and the most delicious Gorgonzola sauce. Wow!! Then hubby moved on to the trout, which he loved, and I had the ravioli with carrot purée,mascarpone and short ribs. This dish was truly amazing!! The mix of sweet and savory was perfect!! And finally, we ended with the Nutella x 3, which I literally had to fight my 5 year old for! And with this amazing meal, on a beautiful patio, where they were nice to my kid? A FANTASTIC bottle of Barolo. And all this for an incredibly reasonable price (well the Barolo was a splurge, but it was Mother’s’ Day eve after all :)). In closing, I want to say that the reviews I had read were mixed, so we were not sure what to expect. But the experience we had was not mixed at all. The service , the food, the ambiance were all phenomenal. I only wished we had tried it sooner, because we will be back to try all of the other amazing items on the menu!!

A "Kitchen Nightmares" kind of experience.

By Leesa O |

My Husband and I chose to eat at TRE because of all the wonderful reviews we saw. We live in an area in Dallas that affords us the ability to walk to many high end restaurants nightly so were highly disappointed when TRE did not meet our standards. Most of the food was horrible. The only dish that was perfect was the 10.00 "market price" house salad. While that is pricey for a house salad, it was very tasty and the pairing of ingredients complimented each other. The pasta dish was just OK and edible. The problem with this dish is when we received it, it had a warmed over look so either it sat in the window for a while before being served OR it was microwaved. The next couple meals were awful. My Husband ordered meatballs with our plate of pasta and he was not impressed. They were very salty and the red sauce was gross and tangy. I ordered one of their pizzas. I had one slice and it was hands down the worst pizza I have EVER had. It was heavily seasoned with pepper, salt and a spicy seasoning. These dishes were simply inedible. We sent both dishes back. With the pizza, I asked the bartender to have the chef taste it because of how bad it was and was informed that the chef was not in that night. After returning our dinner to the kitchen, the bartender proceeded to question us further on why we did not like our pizza. He was being very condescending to us and made us feel as if because we were just the customers, we did not know what was in our food or how food should taste. He went on to say that there was only an herb that was on the pizza and no salt, pepper or spices were used. He said there is salt in the dough and said something about the juice from the banana peppers. He is so full of crap and was covering for the kitchen. The only reason we tipped him was because he cannot help that the kitchen made him serve crap food. Not once did a manager come to speak with us. However, the bartender did offer us a desert on the house which we declined and thankfully he removed those meals off our tab. I say this was a " kitchen nightmares" kind of experience because the pasta was warmed over, the meatballs and pizza were over seasoned and nasty, the bartenders passive aggressive attitude when asking us what exactly we didn't like about our pizza, the fact that no manager came to speak with us, and the chef was off so I guess our food was just being prepared by a cook. We visited many restaurants while in San Antonio and unfortunately this was the most disappointing experience.

Food that will transport you to the heart of Italy

By Meghan |

GO. JUST GO THERE. Thank me later. This place is just so good, I lack that words to convey how fantastic it is. The service was outstanding, the food made me want to cry with joy, the wine list was diverse, and the property is stellar. Everything about this place is fine dining level, but in a warm- pretense free- environment. We tried an assortment of items off the menu- a few apps, salads, entrees, sides, and desserts- and they were all incredibly. The bolognese in particular was ridiculously good and definitely lived up its reputation as being their signature. *When* you go there (because if you have taste buds that work you must- or resign yourself to a life half lived), try the Cacio y Pepe Devil eggs, the bolognese, and the Nutella x3 for sure. Also i have no pictures because I was utterly enveloped and too busy eating and enjoying the experience. Well done Tre Trattoria- I will be seeing you again soon!

delicious Italian cuisine

food was wonderful. We had mushroom tortallini, gnochi, riscotto. Amount of food was not enough for my husband nor for my nephew.

Beautiful location at the San Antonio Museum of Art on the San Antonio river. The Bread and house pulled mozzarella is an amazing way to start. I strongly recommend a table outside for your visit.

5 STAR on Steroids

By Deb m |

Beyond good Food,Ambience and Service! A little hard to find as it’s behind the museum so I would call this a hidden treasure. We enjoyed almost every appetizer , my personal favorite was the Burrata. I started with the old fashioned which had a cinnamon flavor. Had Pizza and Burrata and the white beans as appetizers and the group also enjoyed the clam appetizer. I personally had the gnocchi and although i was full i ate every last one. There were 7 of us and we all agreed the restaurant was one of the best! We finished it off with dessert and I wish I started with it - the Nutella was one of a kind and will not disappoint!

Great Appetizers - Pizza was just "okay"

By Gerald S |

My husband and I stopped in for an early "light" dinner. We had the deviled eggs for an appetizer which were wonderful. We also had a dinner salad which was very good, but the pizza was lacking sauce and flavor. The service was very good, and we would definitely return if in the area (just wouldn't order the pizza)

Nice location

By stingwr8y |

The restaurant is located behind the art museum. Our Uber drive left off us by the art museum and it wasn't very clear where to go, especially at night. Thankfully, there was a poster for the restaurant further down the path and we just keep walking in on the dim lit path where we found the restaurant. The restaurant is very nice with an awesome patio deck overlooking a quiet stretch of the Riverwalk, very beautiful. Service was very good. The food seemed to be hit or miss. Half of our party said that the food was cold and the other half loved their food. Personally, my Bolognese was lukewarm at best.

Lovely dinner

By Tracy C |

We had the restaurant week menu and thought it was very good. The server was very kind and helpful. The location was perfect with a wonderful view of the Riverwalk.

Hard to find but worth it

By Ann_Robison |

It is tucked around the side of a nondescript strip center and is not handicap accessible. Cute little patio dining area for cooler months. We came for Sunday brunch on our way to the McNay. We have a roasted tomato caprese with basil oil. Tomatoes were so sweet because of the roasting and the restaurant pulls their own mozzerella. Ask for bread to sop up all the basil oil. I had the melanese benedict with safron hollandaise and prosciutto. Heaven. My dining partner had a goat cheese and pistachio pizza with a balsamic reduction and a very thin and crispy crust. Good wine list, priced appropriately. We would come back again tomorrow.

Disappointed

By nancy t |

A neighbor who absolutely loves the restaurant took a group of us. On the positive side the food was pretty good, but they were out of the Prosecco that she loved and only 2 bottles of the only other one in stock. The service was horrendous. Getting bread took 3 tries. It was not busy so I don't know why we had to keep flagging down the waitress to order. Food got cold before we could get Parmesean cheese or red pepper flakes. In the end when another staff member was clearing the table we wanted to ask if she would tell our waitress we changed our mind and wanted 1 dessert but she said the waitress would return and we could tell her. I had plans on returning next week but my last dinner in San Antonio before moving will be someplace I know will be good, with great service. Maybe it was just a bad night for the staff, since the neighbor loves it.

Hello? Anybody here?

By Reno D |

Went here for a late lunch. Beautiful location and the pasta was wonderful! Our waiter was very attentive until our meals had been delivered. Then we sat and waited for more water. Then we waited for the check. And waited Finally went inside looking for our waiter. He was not there. Asked another waiter to settle our bill. He said, where's your waiter? Not here, says I. What's your table number? I have no idea, I say. He fetches the manager and we go through the same routine. She tells me to wait while she goes to check on god knows what. FINALLY she comes back to tell me she's figured it out, while I'm thinking that right now you only have 2 tables open, how hard could this be? Good views and great food or I would have rated this low.

Living Disaster

One birthday dinner here was disastrous so I thought so many people like it maybe it was just an off night. It was not. My second try was a total disaster from start to finish. Never ever again. Fuggetaboutit.

Splendid!

We had lunch here and very much enjoyed it. Their Tuscan-inspired Italian fare is very fresh, delicious and the menu contains many unique choices. We loved it!

An Honest Pour

By tgates5 |

In the Jan/Feb issue of Wine Spectator Kim Marcos, managing editor, writes about one of his pet peeves: the pricing of wine in restaurants: "Also ridiculous is the price of wine by the glass." My wife, daughter and I yesterday had lunch at Jason Dady's trattoria in the Fairmont Hotel downtown San Antonio. To say we were overjoyed by the reasonably priced 12 oz glass of wine would be an understatement. The food we had during our Sunday brunch was so enjoyable. Steak and eggs for my daughter; "green eggs and ham" for my wife and the duck confit and egg for myself. And the coffee (Illy) was superb. Compare this wine experience with those you have had and one in particular I have had recently at a restaurant in the Pearl complex north on Broadway. At this restaurant which I will be able to review again when the month delay is past, I recently discovered the travesty of the 5 oz. pour. "Management is quite rigid on this policy", the bartender said. Indeed. Rigid and greedy. But more on this travesty when the requisite time period for updating reviews is over. For the moment, I will remain focused on Jason Dady's wonderfully honest pour. And we will be back soon to sample the rest of his very interesting menu.

Six people. Six plates. All perfect.

By Daniel H |

I love to cook. I love great food. When I pay someone to put food in front of me, I'm too often surprised at how much I paid for them to miss executing a fine concept well. TRE never disappoints. I suggested to five friends visiting San Antonio for a seminar, to try TRE. We had six different plates and two appetizers. All perfect. There was some sharing and it was unanimous: all were perfectly executed. Well done Chef!!!

NICE LOCATION, Just OK food

By boxingpam |

The location is lovely with the outdoor patio above the Riverwalk. I believe if you buy tickets you can enter through the San Antonio Art Museum or SAMA that is next door.. Otherwise you have to walk down the street from the museum, enter a parkway and walk the path to the restaurant. Service was EXCELLENT Food was just average or below, nothing special. They want it to sound special by calling it Tuscany style Italian. But do not look for lasagna or ravioli dishes here.

Restaurant with great location

By marian v |

We recently ate at this restaurant, made reservations for outdoor seating. We had the lemon chicken with diced cucumbers, olives. It was tasty & a good serving. The price wasn't bad & the service was good. Can't beat dining on the river.

Decent dinner and view

By Jose H |

My wife and I went here for our anniversary, and the restaurant quality is all right - not great, not terrible. I had the Classic Campanelle Bolognese, which is actually really good, and my wife had a pizza, which was okay. The biggest disappointment was the cocktail. I think Tre Trattoria's specialty is wine, which of course makes sense, so maybe steer clear of their cocktails. The bread was okay, nothing special. A pair of flies were hanging out on the window inside next to us, but they didn't bother us too much.

Wonderful Find!

By Mark B |

I was visiting in San Antonio, and a friend from Austin joined us for brunch. I searched for local places for brunch, and am so glad I found Tre Trattoria! This hidden gem was a small oasis amid the Boardwalks on Broadway. We started off with Mimosas, which were tasty but I was a bit disappointed that the peach part was not a full nectar, as I've had it in other places. We ordered a caprese salad, which came out beautifully--seared tomatoes with house-made mozzarella. Service was prompt and attentive, but maybe just a bit starchy for my taste. The brunch entrees were perfect. The knockout dish was the beef cheeks chilaquiles, which were heavenly. Fork tender and savory, it was an unusual but fantastic take on the dish. We ended the meal with a cheese course--pecorino with a drizzle of honey. I would have liked more honey to contrast the nutty/salty cheese, but it was still good. Overall, we thought this was a great restaurant. Next time I'm in town, I want to try the dinner menu!

Service lacking, food just okay

By Joy R |

My husband and I visited Tre Trattoria on a weekend trip to San Antonio. We saw Chef Jason Dady on Iron Chef Gauntlet and really wanted to check out his restaurants. Our reservation was on a Saturday night at 6:30, and there was a sparse crowd most of the time we were in the restaurant. The place was bright and the service was very friendly, but the service was also extremely slow. The amount of time it took for us to get our food was the reason for the 2.5 star review rounded up to 3. We weren't extremely hungry, so we decided to get a salad and an appetizer and a couple of pastas with no main course. 1 hour and 40 minutes after we had been seated, we had received our Caeser Salad, a bruschetta, and a pizza we did not order. Still no pasta. The Caeser Salad was just OK. I like a more assertive Caeser dressing and this was pretty mild. The Ricotta Bruschetta was fine, but nothing memorable. Would have been a good starter if we didn't have to wait an hour for our next morsel of food. Again, the service was friendly, and reasonably attentive. Our server checked on us often, and often promised the food was close to being on its way. A manager came by and we discussed our wine, and the Jason Dady restaurant empire in San Antonio, again with the promise our food was on the way. My husband and I didn't complain as we were having good conversation, but at some point that conversation turned to the question - "Why is this food taking so long????". Then, out of the blue, our server brings us a Tomato, Soppresetta, and Pepperoncini pizza, saying that the kitchen made an extra pizza so they were giving it to us. Random, but I must admit, the pizza was excellent and the best thing we had to eat that night. Finally our pastas arrived. The Pan Seared Gnocchi with a combination of the tomato and the gorgonzola cheese sauce was excellent, but very rich. Would have been a better side dish to share along with a main course. The bolognese with tagliatelle pasta was very good also. Better than the Gnocchi in my opinion. Bottom line is that we had an excellent pizza that we didn't order, a couple of good but not great pastas, and some less than memorable appetizers in a meal that lasted over 2 hours. 3 stars for some tasty food, and friendly service. No return visit for us.

Not worth the price

By Sunil Pereira |

I had called in on Easter weekend dinner. They asked if it was a special event and i informed it was my wife's birthday. I also took the outdoor patio seating. Parking is opposite the museum for 5 dollars. The menu is very limited and meat options absent. I ordered the Soppresetta pizza and since it looked very bland as described in the menu, i requested them to add onion and jalapenos. It was mentioned the pizza will take time and be ready upwards of 25 mins. However, we were served with what seemed like a luke warm pizza in under 15 mins which was more like a flatbread and was just very dry. It looked like heated in the microwave. The salt levels were off the chart. The Italian bread and Mozella cheese starter was a thorough disappointment. We just ended up eating the bread. The cheese was more like a rubber mass that we could not event cut. We also ordered the half chicken and it lacked any semblance of flavor. Our bill came out to be $90 and we felt like it was a complete ripoff since we did not enjoy any of the food. When i looked at the bill, i noticed we were charged $2 each for onion ( literally 2 strands ) and 3-4 pieces of Jalapeno's. They did not even remember the birthday event and just handed the bill. We just walked out in utter disappointment. We left feeling hungry and angry. All reviews talk about the river and patio seating. We found it very ordinary and nothing exquisite as some of the reviews are stating here. You can find better seating at the restaurant next door with some good options and lively music Overall, you are charged for the location but the quality and taste of food will leave you hungry with a empty wallet and utter disappointment.

What happened??? This place used to be so good

By Rena D |

Bland but expensive food. So terribly disappointing. No comparison to how it was pre-pandemic. Might as well have stayed home and ate saltines for lunch.

Culinaria Restaurant week

By Vic H |

We had a great time, location is great, the greeting was friendly, the greeter came personally to grab us from the bar while we waited (we were early). We choose the 3 course format and opted for the wine pairing. Although the scene was a little loud for "romance" we enjoyed this atmosphere. Service was prompt and upscale, we ordered the steak and trout, although the trout skin was a little more seasoned then expected the meal was great. Overall an awesome time, ambiance was on point and staff very present.

A Modern Take on Italian

By Gail B |

We had lunch inside and wished we’d asked for patio seating overlooking the river. Inside is the rustic remodel of part of the old brewery with brick and high ceilings. Sort of industrial chic, I guess. We were seated by a wall across from a bar/open kitchen. The menu is not expansive but anyone should be able to find something to his or her taste. Service was fine and the food good. We had gazpacho and a caprese salad for appetizers and both were very good—especially the salad. We also had the iron skillet pizza which was unlike any we had ever encountered with it’s almost cracker-like crust but it was very tasty. The food was reasonable but the wine was overpriced.

Terrible Service…the worst in my life

By Roberto A |

I made a reservation with my family..I came from Spain it was at 9pm and we got there at 9pm and they told us that they closed at 9pm and they did not serve us. It never happen to me before…the treatment was the worst one that I ever had before…NOT RECOMMEND no one to go to this restaurant

Excellent service and food

By Tammy1960 |

We stopped here for lunch on our walk because it looked so nice. What a great choice! We ordered several appetizers and cocktails and shared everything. The service was outstanding, there was a great drink menu and the food was fantastic. Already planning to eat here next time we’re in town!

Fabulous Italian Meal

By JAR |

We were a party of six, but everyone found their experience fabulous. The appetizers were delicious, especially pulled mozzarella. I had mushroom risotto, again fabulous. Our waiter was clearly a foodie.

Dissapointing

By saxaxe |

Food extremely salty, pasta undercooked and luke warm...risotto was really salty, mostly rice...both dishes quite small portions. Waited almost 45 minutes until we received the food. We did however enjoyed the patio overlooking the river.

It's Hidden Among the Boardwalk Center Trees

By bobemac |

This place is sort of in the middle of a 40-year-old wooden planked shopping center called the Boardwalk on Broadway St. The restaurant has been here six years and has some colorful paintings which brighten up the bland woody look. Our server was Josh and he's also the barkeep. He was helpful and friendly since this was our first visit. The Caeser salads were just average with an understated flavored dressing. The lunch entrees come all alone with no sides, the sides are A La Carte. The trout was butterflied and tasted good. The fried Gnocchi, one of their featured dishes, came with a mild cheese sauce and was very bland, a big serving of tasteless dumplings was not much at all. This was lunch on a weekday morning and business here was very slow. Our service was OK, but the prices are pretty high for what you receive.

Excellent Italian food just north of downtown San Antonio!

By Cameron Klein |

Excellent Italian food just north of downtown San Antonio! Based on Yelp reviews of Italian restaurants in San Antonio, we decided to give this place a try. We started with two glasses of the Ruffino Chianti Superiore. It's really a glass and a half. This light red wine goes very well with just about any meat dish you order. Very smooth. My wife had a traditional caeser salad and I had the vinagrette salad for appetizers. Both were good, nothing special. Salad was nice and fresh. We both had the Parpadelle Bolognese for our main entree and it was very good. Extra large pasta topped with a season mixture of beef, pork and veal. Very good For dessert, we each had a Green Apple Crostada. Oh my Lord, this was good! One of the best baked pastries we've had in a LONG time. You can really tell they use fresh fruit and spices. Absolutely delicious. We will be back

Tre Trattoria was delicious

By sisi123 |

We had reservations and we were seated promptly. We were supposed to eat outside by the river but the weather was cold and they accommodated us inside. Their menu is very interesting and we all loved our meals. Our waiter was very attentive and personable. When I go back to San Antonio I will definitely go back. As a side note, this restaurant is located at the San Antonio Art Museum, another place to visit when we return.

Mother's Day Brunch

By Jackie A |

Tre's Mother's Day 4 course brunch was amazing. Their menu was perfect and the atmosphere was very nice. This was a very special Mother's day, since we had a fairly large party. The waiter Justin was very attentive and didn't rush us. Compliments to the chefs for a delicious meal.

Top Quality Italian

By Bob S |

We had the pleasure of having a going-away party for my daughter here. There were three totally awesome individuals that made our party something special. Pierce, Tristan, and Julia. Pierce came to speak with me right away and introduced us to Tristan and Julia, whose sole job was to take care of our party. And take care they did. Constantly filling the waters, taking drink orders, picking up our stuff, packing leftovers away. All with lovely smiles and sweet comments the whole night. Pierce was constantly coming to check on us to make sure we were taken care of. And joining in as needed if Tristan and Julia were already with other things. Also with a great smile and continuous thanks for having our party there. We really felt like we were having a Michelin experience. Lastly, let me add that the food was outstanding. The chicken, short rib, and bolognese were all so, so good. I am getting hungry again just thinking about it. Although the place closes at 10, Pierce and company graciously never pushed us to finish up and leave, so we lingered while all three of them chatted with us and felt like new-found friends. This is the kind of service that will keep all of us coming back again and again. And we will.

One of the best Italian Meals of my life!

By smervin |

I cannot describe in words the meal that I had at this restaurant, other than to say it was one of the best meals I have had in my life. This was a business dinner and each course that came out was better than the last which we could not believe. We started with Bruschetta with Lemon Ricotta, Prosciutto di Parma, Tuscan Farro Salad and a signature Caesar. Pasta was next course Orcchietto Bolognese and a Penne Pasta with Lemon Cream and Basil. Entrees was Roasted Pork Loin with Mostrada and Roasted Chicken with Charrel Lemon with Creamy Parmigiano Polenta and Brussels Sprout Hash, Dessert Nutellla X3. OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!! Service was Incredible! Don't miss this one!

Delicious food and fantastic ambiance

By jlbran84 |

I hosted a business dinner here. Our table was tucked away, and the service was excellent. It was easy parking, and the beautiful lit deck was a lovely way to enter the restaurant. The food and drink were delicious, and the service was good without being overbearing. The price was right, too. I can't believe I found this gem!

Beyond Disappointing!

By LeCirque248 |

One of the worst dining experiences I have ever encountered. The $16 salad special was gritty (salad tasted sandy and unwashed) was missing more than half of the components i.e. avocado, pumpkin seeds, strawberries etc. My dining companion ordered the house Italian and received the Caesar salad, yet upon questioning was told it was the correct one. The roasted eggplant (another special of the day) was inedible and completely uncooked. IT was raw with some tomato sauce poured over it. Not one came over to apologize or check up upon us. We did each receive a complimentary glass of wine, but would have appreciated a manager stopping by. While the view was lovely (we sat outdoors) the dining experience was disappointing at best. On my return flight I had dinner at the Atlanta airport at Bobby's Burger Palace which was ten times better!

Lovely Lunch with the Family

By KGuad |

It was a nice lunch for a group of 7. The Lobster Bisque was very good. My entree was the risotto and it was just the right portion and great taste. The majority of the family ordered the bolognese which of course I had to taste and that too was very good and a larger portion than the risotto. My son had the tomato and spiced pepperoni cast iron pizza and that too I tasted and it was very good but it had a spicy kick to it so not for children. The only item that I did not see on the table for lunch was any type of bread, or bread sticks that you see at other italian places.

A real plus for visitors to the San Antonio Museum of Art

By ian_fraser1 |

When we planned our visit to the San Antonio Museum of Art we weren't really thinking about what we would be eating for lunch. We figured there would be the sort of standard cafeteria one finds in many museums. However, SAMA's Tre Trattoria is a real stand out. Lovely setting, a small but interesting and varied menu, nice decor and atmosphere, very good service.

Not breathtaking, but comforting

By WoWoTad |

A good place to mull over the art seen at the museum, although the statement at the top of the restaurant’s website about “breathtaking views of the river” is a far stretch. Let’s be honest, this cement-encased trickle with no visible current does not really deserve to be called a river, and staring at it (and into the windows of the condo towers on the other bank) is not likely to take anyone’s breath away. Unless one chokes on a bite of something. That said, the bites are more than decent. I had the pasta with cauliflower, smoked Gouda, and hazelnuts and the hefty portion was satisfying, if momentarily inducing the brick-in-the-stomach feeling. The cool and tactful waitress was right in suggesting a glass of Chianti to go with the main course. I am tempted to return there to try some of their lighter fare.

Lovely Patio Lunch Overlooking River Walk

By RhondaHTrip |

Being seated at the beginning of the lunch hour may allow you the pleasure of eating outside overlooking the River Walk. After a 5 minute stroll from the Pearl Brewery shops or a morning spent enjoying the wonderful San Antonio Museum of Art, this is a good choice for a meal. I chose to sit outside on the balcony, which I preferred to noisy inside seating. Although they do take reservations for the restaurant, the balcony is first-come first-served. The menu is a bit limited, priced higher because of its location, but there is enough variety. I opted for a house salad, and was disappointed that the lettuces were limp, but the vinaigrette was light and tasty. The iced tea was very strong and only had a small amount of ice, and then my refill had none, resulting in room temperature iced tea. My wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable, but inattentive. She never returned during the meal so I could not order soup or dessert, and I could not ask for ice. Once I had sat too long, I asked for the check. If I had seen a manager, I would have provided some constructive feedback. I ended up leaving it on the comment card, and am surprised that no one has ever reached out to talk about my experience. Still, I heard others exclaiming how delicious the spaghetti and meatballs were, so I'll give it another try!

A very nice spot for an excellent lunch

By NCDoc |

We had lunch at Tre Trattoria on their terrace. The setting is pretty, overlooking the Riverwalk and adjacent to the San Antonio Museum of Art. And although the day was blisteringly hot, the terrace is shaded and the fans work well. All the food we had was excellent. I can particularly recommend the “Sammy” (an Italian sandwich). My wife liked her Caprese salad. And the Italian sodas are great on hot day. Service was friendly if a bit leisurely, but we weren’t in a rush (which was pretty clear). It was one of those places where we could strike up conversations with neighboring tables. Friendly, low key, a good value, and excellent food. What more could you want?

Great setting, so-so food

We knew nothing of this place, but were ready to sit and eat lunch when we finished at the Art Museum, so we headed over. When we were told the dining room was fully reserved on a Wednesday at 1, my hope for a good meal rose, but in the end we were disappointed. Lovely roasted beet & orange appetizer, but my risotto was very boring. My wife's gnocchi with mushroom sauce was better, but not really great. It was cold on the deck, beautiful along the river but cold, and the promised overhead heater was brought, but they couldn't make it work. The excuse given was the night shift doesn't turn them off so they run out of propane overnight. Really? What does that say about the management? The wine selection was OK, but quite pricey for a 6 oz. pour. We've had quite a few what seem to us short pours here, so maybe this is a local standard, unlike most other places in North America we've eaten. Our waiter was attentive until we finished eating and then we sat in the cold what seemed an eternity awaiting someone to tell we wanted the check, which again took a long time to deliver. It came with an apology about the computer being cranky, but again performance trumps excuses IMO. The sun was shining on the RiverWalk, even if we were in the shade on the deck, so we walked back to downtown. Best part of the museum & restaurant visit for us.

Better for lunch

It's not the biggest menu, but there are a lot of shareable options and small plates. Outside area over the river provides great atmosphere but the inside is a bit lacking. Tables are close together and we were sat right by another couple even though there was plenty of empty space. Waiter was excellent but the hostess seemed a bit annoyed and not very happy to be there. Might not be her fault as she seemed to be all by herself. There are better dinner options downtown but I would visit again if I was in the area or spending some time at the museum.

Never Again

If I could give it a lower score I would. We had a horrendous experience. Server ignored us for 25 mins but served couple who just sat down. Mozzarella appetizer came out with charred toast over an hr after we sat down. We missed a show we had tickets to because the server avoided us all evening. 3-4 tables around us got served drinks, appetizers, entrees, dessert and paid before we could even flag down a manager almost 2 hrs after sitting down. Manager gave us every excuse in the book but said she understood our anger. We walked out with our food in to-go containers over 2 hrs after arriving with our ticket comped because of how terrible our experience was. We got home to find incredibly unappetizing looking entrees that it just embarrassing, frustrating and really put the cherry on top of an indefensible evening at Tre Trattoria.

Highly disappointed in service and tact

I loved Tre Enoteca, and was looking forward to a Tre Trattoria visit for over a year. After our visit this past weekend, I was extremely disappointed and doubt we will return. We were not treated well this weekend at Tre Trattoria. We made reservations for 12:45, requesting outside on Saturday. When we arrived, the waitstaff told us there was no room outside although many of the tables outside and inside were empty. They acted like we were an inconvenience and talked back and forth to each other (without talking to us) before deciding to take us to "Table 51." It was highly uncomfortable. Fifteen minutes into our lunch, we were asked if we could move to another area as they were ready to set up the room we were in for a party. We declined and told them the entire experience of the meal so far had been very unenjoyable. They moved tables around us for the remaining 15 minutes we spent there. There was a table next to us with older ladies who were there before us, and still there when we left who were never asked to move. It was highly unprofessional and overall an overpriced-for-the-service, unenjoyable experience.

Nice but somewhat pricey for a serving

This is one of the restaurants that has white table clothes, superb service, and good food. It is hard to criticize it but it left me wanting more than provided by my meal. Two couples had dinner and all enjoyed what was ordered. From bib and caesar salads to pizza and pasta, all was tasty and well-prepared. I had linguini and clams. It too was excellent but so limited in amount. I had about a dozen small clams which was fine but I also had probably a half cup of pasta. Since I had a large salad for lunch I did not order one at the restaurant. If I would have known what was one of there serving I certainly would have had a salad too.

Great food & Happy Hour

We were invited by friends for a happy hour event here. Their happy hour menu was great. He is innovative chef and his restaurants are always good.

Good location on the River

This restaurant is in the Museum of Art complex and offers traditional Italian food. I had a house salad that was very good. I probably won't go back, however, because of the service.

Pleasant night out

After picking up out RV at Iron Horse RVs here in San Antonio after having repairs made in it we decided to spent the night at the local KOA on Gembler. We set up quickly and while the wife cleaned the RV I flew to HEB to pick up ingredients to make dog food for our two Chih Tzus. After mixing up a week's batch and then feeding the dogs I asked the wife "Chinese or Mexican?" She said "Italian". Well after a brief online search I selected the Tre Tratorria at 4003 Broadway in San Antonio. Selecting directions got us there in fourteen minutes. Ice tea for me and an excellent white wine for the wife. Our waiter James brought out two small plates. One covered with olive oil and spices and the other plate held four slices of a crusty bread that turned out to be so delicious that it turned into four plates of bread yum. We ordered a Margherita pizza for both and a Caprise salad (mozzarella cheese, tomato and green basil) for the wife. I thought the bread was good but the pizza was great. I loved it. After recently returning from Italy and Greece I thought it would be difficult to find a quality Margherita pizza but it turned out that the Tre Trattoria makes an excellent Margherita pizza and it honors the original made in Italy many years ago. A simple pizza only three ingredients but wow it is delicious when done well. Good enough Tre Trattoria we will definitely be back. Nice table, quiet and pleasant surroundings, efficient and capable service personnel made this a wonderful evening. Make it one of those places you visit while in San Antonio, Texas.

Great Italian lunch

Three of us had lunch outdoors at the Broadway location on a beautiful day. We had warm bread with olive oil and shared a lentil appetizer and one with cannellini beans. Our entrees were the salmon with orzo, pappardelle bolognese, and tagliatelle with thyme and wild mushrooms. The pasta dishes came with Caesar salads or soup. All were delicious. Desserts of nutella x 3, brown butter butterscotch gelato, and apple crostada were good. Service was excellent. We would definitely go back.

Our most unusual Italian restaurant meal.

Quite an experience. My wife and Dined as visitors. Others reviews encouraged us to try this Medererrian, Northern Italian cuisine restaurant. Two dishes were very good two were bad. I always give the restaurant the benefit if the doubt but after reading "Kitchen Nightmare" back in November 2013 I believe we were correct thinking the food was not just uneven, but badly prepared. The hostess and waiter were great. We do not know what the Kitchen was thinking with the strange two dishes they sent us. I would not take a chance with this restaurant unless you are the assertive type and willing to challenge what may come to your table. (Half good/ half awful).

Good with one exception

By bonefxr |

The outside dining is very nice. Service was excellent....they really succeed in creative quality dining. One one exception was the lemon ricotta cake....which xery dry and hard....overcooked?...the accompanying very compote was superb...Wine offerings, altho limited, were very good. Would I return...of course! They excelled overall! Kudos to staff & management.

Disappointing Dady Establishment

By teachy9 |

We were looking forward to our visit as we had enjoyed the Broadway location, but were soon dismayed when the waiter took 20 minutes to take our drink order on what appeared to be a slow Saturday evening. When our food items began arriving, we all noted the over-salting. My House Market-Price salad would have been good had it not been for copious amounts of salt. One member of our group of six ordered spaghetti and meatballs. When the pasta came out crunchy instead of al dente, he complained to the waiter, who simply explained that it was the way the chef intended it.There was no offer to improve this fairly simple dish. Overall, this place is over-priced for the quality of the food and service. In addition, although the space behind the museum has a charming ambience, the acoustics are so bad that we had a difficult time carrying on a conversation. Jason Dady, what is going on?????
