Go for the dim sum!

By UTLAWgrad |

Go for lunch any day of the week and you can enjoy the best dim sum in the area. Its plentiful and inexpensive. We tried over 7 items and each one was better than the last. There were no bad dishes on that dim sum cart. Attentive service at an affordable price.

World Class Dim Sum

By ClassicaBlue |

I have eaten Dim Sum all over the world including Hong Kong, China & San Francisco and Tropical Chinese was up there with the very best of them. Their prices are lower than many places I've tried even though their quality and preparation is much higher. We went for dinner and had their Peking Duck which was fantastic, served first in delicious little crepe cones with plum sauce, then the rest as part of a stir-fry. Their overall food quality, preparation, presentation, service and pricing is outstanding. Highly Recommended.

No Rice for You!!!

By Jimmy G |

Ordered the pepper steak, it was well cooked. It was accompanied with a small tea cup of rice. When I asled for more rice since that would not be enough for my meal, I was told that repeatedly by several members of staff that little cup was what they served everyone and that I was the only person to ever complain about not having enough rice. It's a shame that after an expensive plate, it should be ruined by a ridiculous amount of rice. It's probably the cheapest and easiest thing to make. Of course I could have bought another tea cup for two dollars. Seems more like nickle and diming you for such a ridiculous thing.

Very large extewnsive menu with certain items extremely expensive

By Rich F |

We drove over an hour to have dinner at Tropical Chinese restaurant in Miami. We were seated immediately and were greeted by a very informative waiter who explained many of the dishes. The selections were vast and we had three appetizers and the Peking Duck. The duck was great and the waiter made ten wraps which we couldn't finish. The food is great but the Peking Duck was $65 which is way out of line compared to other Chinese restaurants. The duck was good but not worth the price. We may visit the restaurant again but we definitely won't have the duck.

This place was packed! Its chaos and rush but food is good

By FlubberW |

We went on a Sunday night like 45min before the kitchen closed. We were served but we were so rushed it felt like we did not even have a say in what we ordered. The service is just so much of a rush that is not the typical restaurant experience, but its American Chinese food so get used to it. The General Tso Chicken was great 9/10 for sure great food. The pork dumplings must not have been the freshest at that moment so 6/10. The pepper steak was fabulous 8/10. We finished a rushed dinner with the chairs on the tables practically a comeback is granted so that we can explore more of the menu. The prices seemed mid-range for us.

Best dimsum in South Florida

By Will K |

High quality cantonese dim sum with wide array of options. They recently redecorated with a wonderful cartoony mural that make a refreshing change from the stereotypical Burgundy-and-rosewood furniture and Chinese warehouse paintings.

Great Food!

By Nadia S. N |

The restaurant had a very nice atmosphere, food tastes great (trust me I'm really picky with chinese food) place and food presentation was spectacular! not your typical Chinese place. The restaurant overall is very clean and pleasant, I thought prices were reasonable for the quality. We had dumplings, fried rice, steak noodles, and pecking duck which were all super good.

Must be Friday

We decided to go out instead of calling for takeout, and we are glad we did. The egg rolls were fresher, the corn soup was tasty with some hot sauce, and both our main dishes, supplemented by the house fried rice, were plentiful.

Wow

A true Asian experience, just order what you see in the tiny cars that stop by the tables, don't be afraid to try thing you doesn't know, go with a few friends to make sure you can try as many dishes as possible

Best Chinese Food in Miami

The drive to tropical Chinese is worth it. Each dish is delicious. We have been here a few times and highly recommend the restaurant.

Disappointed

By 620setht |

Have eaten there many times. The restaurant continues to survive on a reputation that is very overrated. The size of dishes have decreased as has the quality. More important is the price continues to rise The service is as mediocre as the quality of food. The manager should learn professional courtesy The days of our family eating there have ended. Can not recommend the restaurant

Best Dim sum in Miami area

By Wangfox |

Whenever we travel we like to search out Dim Sum on Sundays. We recently were in Coconut Grove. Both friends and Tripadvisor recommended Tropical. We were not disappointed. One of the better selections we have found in south Florida. Push cart style but you could order off menu too. waitresses pushing carts were friendly, spoke english and willing to explain what each items was. Food was all hot and flavorful. Everyone at the table enjoyed all the different selections. Not much was left for leftovers!! Restaurant and bathrooms were also clean. They are moving a lot of people through but restaurant was in good shape and not worn as so many others are. Highly recommend for Dim sum!

The most expensive Dim Sum

By kgiacoman |

Take control of your orders, other wise your bill can be a bad surprise.I told the waitress not to put more fried dim sum, since I prefer steamed dim sum, she was rude and the invoice did not make sense at all. There are better places to enjoy dim sum.

Best Dim Sum in Miami

By GCAlan |

Good old-style Chinese Restaurant, in operation for many years. Well-known to many local residents. Long menu with many unique choices. The menu has pictures of most dishes, so you can pick by description and appearance. There are plenty of vegetarian choices as wells meat and fish.

Overwhelming, in a good way

By Jason |

I went there with my parents while visiting. We sat down and immediately the carts started coming, and they don't stop. Tons of variety. Their menu at the front door may help for first timers. Great service. Sometimes it's difficult to get a description of what they're offering. I've been to Dim Sum restaurants in Chinatown in Philly, and this place fits right in. Loved the sticky rice. They have a traditional menu at dinner. Not sure if it's in addition to, or in lieu of the dim sum.

Lots of choices

By jj1234jane |

Nice and large. Lots of variety of dim sum which is correctly brought around in a cart. Don't see alot of Asians. But very nice.

Da best Dim Sum and More!!!

By Steve X |

Been going here for 20 years and have only been disappointed once (that day they had no hot chili oil). The absolute freshest ingredients make the best food here. Dim Sum is a crazy experience with the tastiest morsels of steamed buns, stickers, pockets filled with shrimp, pork and vegetables. Don't be overwhelmed, point and ask, try something new... Chicken feet? Why not,? Dinner is awesome, with huge menu with absolutely the freshest vegetables, fish and meats prepared in authentic recipes. Try the Duck... Try the pineapple fried rice. You'll thank me later. Side note - we were here for Dim Sum and were next to a table of 13 which included: Chinese, Latin, White, Black, Muslim, Jewish, Indian and others. Gives one Hope to see we can all enjoy a meal together. We love Mai's Place.

The best

Best Chinese in Miami! We eat here often. The Pecking duck is delicious, shrimp wonton soup is the best. And try the Carrotini made by Rafa the bartender, it’s one of his specialties.

Best Chinese Dim Sum Ever! Authentic!

By karyn A |

My title says it all! I’m half Chinese and grew up in a world of good Hong Kong style Chinese food. So, this is my comfort food. We came straight off of a lovely vacation on the Norwegian Getaway to the Western Caribbean, then met with some cousins living in Miami, Fl who frequent this restaurant and know the owner (whom, by the way was very nice and hospitable). Talking to him one could tell he had very high standards and quality was not going to be compromised. His place seemed like in an old shopping strip mall, the name doesn’t stand out but when you see Asians eating in an Asian restaurant you know the food is authentic. The place was packed and we had to make reservations, it was a Sunday - dim sum was until 3pm every day. They had everything one would want from dim sum and more; pork buns, steamed dumplings, bar-b-que spare ribs, orange beef (the best I ever tasted), sticky rice, shrimp/chicken shu mai, bok choy, etc. etc. etc. I was just in my glee and eating as it was being ordered. Service was good with carts filled to the brim. Kitchen could been seen through a glass window... so you know it had to be sparkling clean. I highly recommend this place and would definitely go there again whenever I visit it Florida. I’m finding it and making sure I eat there again.

Excellent food, device needs improvement

By Lillian7536 |

The food was great. We shared the special fried rice which was very tasty and loaded with meat and vegetables, as it should be and a delicious shredded beef dish which unfortunatelymI cannot remember the name. At the end, we asked the young man who was taking away our empty plates to please tell us what they had for dessert. He did not understand what the word dessert meant and did not take the trouble to call somebody to help us. I tried to call someone else, but nobody was paying attention. Finally, I just stood up, asked for the bill, and got out of there. It is a shame, because the foot was excellent.

Darn good Chinese food

By WhereTheLocalsEat |

This is in my girlfriends top 5 places in Miami. Better than average and even better dim sum. The food is always good. The staff is always attentive which makes it even better in my book, plus there is a full bar.

Great Dim Sum

By TBSMKS |

Don't let the fact that this restaurant is located in a strip mall deter you - it's a great restaurant. We were here on a Sunday at noon and we loved everything we ate. The dim sum choices were plentiful. The carts come around serving a variety of chicken, poke, vegetable and beef dim sum. We also ordered sticky rice (only thing we didn't love). There were 8 of us having lunch and the bill came to $190 including tip.

Miami's Authentic Dim Sum Restaurant

By DonnaAJ |

I think what I like best about going for dim sum is that you can be eating almost immediately upon being seated. That is, when you get seated. Be prepared to wait 5-15 minutes or more to be seated on the weekends. This is dim sum at it's finest and most authentic, including cart-pushers who don't speak a lick of English. But hey, this is Miami and I think we are accustomed to that phenomenon. If you feel the need to know what you're ordering from the dim sum cart, grab one of the dim sum menus from the front of the restaurant, don't ask the server. Holding up the dim-sum cart with too many questions will garner dirty looks for other diners awaiting the cart's arrival. Not to mention, the variety of dim-sum offerings is quite extensive, with small, medium and large priced dished (small dishes are priced in the region of $4.50). Staff is usually very efficient, which might compensate for any perceived brusqueness. During dim sum - from 11:30 to 3:00 weekdays, 11:00 on Saturdays and 10:30(?) Sundays - the restaurant is extremely busy and you have to ignore the urge to rush the experience. I have not been to Tropical Chinese for dinner so I can only speak about the lunch/brunch dim sum.

Good place

By foodtester214 |

went there with my wife (like always) , had fried rice and few other dishes , there was too much salt in my fried rice , they fixed it by making a new one, i noticed there was ground beef in my fried rice instead of real meat chunks, i guess this is how they make it. price was high for value, but had fun .

Great Chinese

By Humberto F |

This restaurant is always serving a large menu of Chinese food. Very good and fresh quality prepared in an open kitchen.

Early mothers day, wanted authentic. ...that and more.

By Foodiepaul |

And that's exactly what we got, from reservation to greeting to seating staff very pleasant and caring. Food gets a 5 out of 5 , my real rating 4.5 overall. I (we)will be back. Dim sum fantastic, as was Prawn dish and soups. Vibrant! Well worth the write ups I read.

Just As Good As Always

By bnajf |

I had dinner with my family on a Saturday night at around 6:30 PM. We had reservations and got seated immediately had a nice table. This is a restaurant that I frequented when I lived in Miami 30 years ago and it is just as good as I remembered. We started with tofu and seafood soup and spareribs for the table. All were delicious and very much enjoyed. For our main courses we had black bean tofu, special scallops, and delicious duck. All were tasty, fresh and piping hot. We drank Buddha beer which I have not had previously and it was refreshing and quite tasty. I love Tropical Chinese restaurant and it will remain a stop anytime I am in Miami. Highly recommended.

Food is really Great.

Food is really Great. Atmosphere is ok. Highly recommend the Dim Sum. Didn’t have any other dishes but everything else smelled good.

Fantastic!

By mwooduk |

Came here with my boss for a quick lunch earlier this week. I had not been here in 20 years! We got here at noon and the service was fantastic, restaurant was beautiful and the dim sum offerings were just outstanding. It was so hard to pick and choose which ones to have because they all looked good. We tried a few vegetarian options and I also had the hot and sour soup which was fantastic. The dim sum lunch comes with hot tea and water and you can add other drinks as you wish. We had about eight little plates and the bill was $40 so you're looking at about five dollars per plate for dim sum which usually contains three items each. Anyway highly recommended and very fast - we were in and out in 40 minutes which was just what we needed!

So far, by far, the best Chinese restaurant I've been to in Miami

By Spencer D |

I keep searching for great Dim Sum around the Country. I've tried Hong Kong noodles on the north side of town (North Miami Beach), which was very good Dim Sum. This is even better, and the atmosphere at Tropical Chinese is much nicer. They actually do steam carts (pretty rare). The restaurant is clean, fairly modern, and well appointed. Much nicer than most restaurants in Miami that are outside of SoBe or downtown. I can't wait to return for a traditional Chinese meal. Service was friendly, fast, and competent, but everyone is Chinese (as it should be), so there's a little language barrier. It was a tad expensive, but as is often the case, you get what you pay for.

One of the best in Miami

After being in China for a month and having tried real Chinese food there, I can safely say that this restaurant is "the real thing"! Delicious dim sum and great entrees!

Miami dim sum

By RickNamer80 |

Very nice dim sum selection. Not as good as what you would get in New York but pretty damn good for miami. In addition to the push cart they also have a great Peking duck. Took a star away because they charge for soda refills. A table of two and we ended up with $18 worth of soda!

Best Dim Sum Restaurant in Miami

By Stephen M |

This is, and has been, the best dim sum restaurant in Miami for decades. My daughter ate clams in black bean sauce here as part of her dim sum lunch when she was 3 years old, and she is now a mother herself. This restaurant only keeps getting better, as they have made some small physical improvements over the years. During all that time, the dim sum carts have kept on rolling, and I still make the drive to the shopping mall across from Tropical Park for my dim sum lunch several times a month. The food is superb, at dinner as well as at lunch. What a joy.

China in Miami

By TheBestOnly_13 |

This is perhaps the only Chinese restaurant in Miami where you could literally eat weekly or more often and never repeat a dish. Menu is abundant with choices (and pictures) in every category (vegetarian, seafood, chicken, beef or pork) in addittion to appetizers, dim sums, rices and soups. Portions are large so it is a good idea to share entrees or plan to take home.. Restaurant is usually full at peak hours but wait is short. Service is typical of a chinese restaurant but once you order, food is quickly served. Surprisingly for a chinesse restaurant, Tropical Chinese has a great selection of fine wines which are temperature controlled and displayed in floor-to-wall glass wine coolers.

Good Chinese food in Miami

By wanderingel |

After a couple of weeks in Cuba, we were ready for some Chinese food in Miami. While the dim sum menu at dinner was limited, what we had was very good. We also had chow fun (rice noodles) and gai lan (broccoli) with oyster sauce. A very good meal although a lot more expensive than New York or Boston.

They are great again

By sham k |

We had stopped going there for a while as their food had gone down hill. I am glad to say they are back. Really enjoyed our meal there. We went ther for Sunday Dim Sum, but we also had the Pecking Duck, it comes in two servings, the skin in the Doilies which is perfectly crispy & the mat cooked separately, just delicious . We were a group of 10 ,so we re ordered it to end the meal with. The Dim Sum were all great. We also had the Orange Beef, good. Pan fried noodles also good. Will go again. Service was good & the table near their Wine storage unit is a nice place to sit in the restaurant.

Bad service in the afternoon

By dmayoral1 |

Great place for Dim Sum but don’t go between 3 and 4 pm. Changed shift end and menu from dim sum to dinner menu. At first they tried to push us on dim sum (what was left) without taking our drink orders. We had to cancel our order after 40 minutes of waiting. Although the food is good the service is not

Not up to standards

By moparmoe |

Had a reservation for dim sung on Sunday. Service was poor and quality was not up to par. Food was only fair. Staff was overwhelmed . Had to go up to the manager to get the carts to go by our table. Extremely disappointed . Probably will not go back. Too bad.

Great Amazing

Christmas at Tropical - A Tradition

By Debbie D |

We go to Tropical often, mostly for dim sum lunch or on occasion the celebration duck ( sometimes lobster Cantonese). It’s always fabulous but it takes on a special fervor Christmas Day. The restaurant is filled to capacity with happy diners munching on a variety of dim sum served from carts. On Christmas Day the carts come out of the kitchen full and within 2 minutes are emptied; everything is hot and delicious. In addition to the dim sum we ordered the duck in 2 fashions. We knew we would have leftovers and ordered sticky rice to take home with the leftovers. Reservations are a must if you don’t want to wait or if you have a preference of where you want to sit. It’s a great place, and Christmas Day an event in its own right

If you like chinese its a must!!!

By Sherpa778046 |

Lunch there is amazing, they come by with little carts filled with different small plates so you just chose what you fancy, a great way of tasting new flavors!!!

Incredible ... the REAL DEAL!

By Pineapples-a-Plenty |

We had a special occasion, and set out for Tropical Chinese. They delivered, big! The dim sum was fantastic. Shrimp dumpling, roast pork, ginger pork ... all A+ Their entrees are all amazing. We had the shrimp & the beef. Both hit the spot! Service is excellent, and the chemistry inside the restaurant makes for a great setting. Will say that the dessert option (there is only one) is too limited. They offer lychees, and that's it. Otherwise, a great meal, and we look forward to going back!

Best Dim Sum in Miami

By Marc L |

If you're looking for an authentic dim sum experience in Miami, Tropical Chinese is your #1 choice. Tucked away in a nondescript strip mall, it is very much a trek to this destination, but you won't be disappointed once you arrive. The staff is friendly, the dim sum carts roll through frequently, and the offerings are always hot and fresh. While plates can stack up in a hurry, a family meal is still very reasonably priced.

Some good selections but some issues

By nycnyuguy |

It's really hard to get good Chinese food in South Florida. I drove from Palm Beach where there are no quality Chinese restaurants just restaurants that cater to elderly and suburban New Yorkers - who believe an egg roll, chop suey and general cho chicken constitutes an authentic dining experience. Combine that with their refusal to pay a fair price that might foster a better quality meal and you have Palm Beach dining. So I was happy when I heard about Tropical Chinese. First the negatives. The tables are awful close to one another. The service is quite indifferent. Some of the food is sub par. The spicy beef dish I had was bearly edible. The shrimp wonton soup was lacking in flavor and watery. The chicken and vegetables was not bad but hardly worth a drive. Now the good news: It is nearly impossible to find good dumplings or dim sum in South Florida so when a restaurant receives accolades for it well I will go. The dim sum was good (though hardly outstanding) and freshly made. We had three different types of shrimp dumplings and all were fine. Not as good as Hakassan in Miami Beach or even Blackbrick but still good. Overall a decent restaurant but from the food selections we had it was hardly outstanding.

Talk about value for money!....

By 791elainee |

This restaurant is well known for its dim sum. Best that I know of in Miam. And the cost of the meal is always surprisingly low. Even a friend of mine who owns a 5-star hotel was impressed by the fare and the price! I always go once in Miami. Highly recommend. My most recent visit was in September 2016.

Great Chinese Food

By FPAdventurer |

I would say that this is the most authentic Chinese food available in Miami that I have tried. The dim sum was great. They also have Szechuan dishes which are not typical of Chinese restaurants. The service is ok, but you are really going there for the food. I would suggest making a reservation if you are a large group or if you are going on a busy day.

New Management equals less quality...

By JustSaying |

I have been going there for years. However, while there were some recent COVID related changes, it was not until my last visit that I also noticed a change in some of their more popular dim sum dishes - and not for the better I might add. I wondered what was up with less pork in the pork buns, less pork in the steamed rice and a paper wrapper instead of leaf. Plus less offerings at lunch. Well, it appears there is new management and some staff changes - including some of the chefs or recipes. Why change what has been successful for decades? Bottom line message to new management - not completely giving up on the place, but will be exploring new dim sum options.

Overpriced with not quite authentic good

By Sam Ho |

We visited this place as tourists. The food tasted ok, though it cannot be considered very authentic. Nevertheless, everything is WAYYYYY OVERPRICED!!! Most of the typical Asian dishes are in the $20 range, while you can get the same thing in other parts of the US like LA, SF or NY for half of the price. The typical Peking duck is $75, while it is anywhere between $25 to $45 in other parts of the country. Typical dim sum dishes are $7-10 a dish, whereas the same thing is $3-$4 in CA. AND they only have like 8 varieties, possibly made from frozen dim sum you can get from any Asian grocery stores. We would not go back for sure.

Classical dim sum

By marujatarre |

Recently Tropical Chinese had problems with sanitation, but now everything seems solved and clean. We had only very classical dim sum for brunch and all of them were excellent. The service was very fast and efficient. Constant supply of hot tea. For those interested there is an excellent Spanish bookshop nearby. One of the best in Miami.

The most bland food I have ever tasted!

By lulis6812 |

My wife and I drove almost an hour to this restaurant and we 100% regret it! The price you pay for the portions you receive is ridiculous, not to mention everything we ordered was blanch. Even the spicy items we ordered were just very mild at best. I spent nearly $70 and we only ordered 4 items!!! The service was okay but when I needed my server I had to stand and wave to get his attention at times. Also good luck finding a place to park there. If you do get parking, the spaces are so that you can barely fit your car into it and you run the risk of getting door dents from the other cars as people open their doors. I will definitely not be going back. Your average Chinese takeout is 1000% more flavorful than this place, plus you won't have to deal with getting dents on your car.

Great Dim Sum

By Hansel S |

So happy I came across this place. It's a hidden gem in a generic strip mall. Food is great, good service. Would recommend it for traditional Dim Sum or Cantonese food.

stick with dim sum only!

By madiestan |

It was my sons graduation, and being a fan of Asian food and not having found much luck with good Chinese food in Miami, I read excitably about the reviews for this place. I was disappointed though. The décor is a bit jaded but I still liked it, bright red hanging paper lanterns and wacky modern cream and black wall paper in a modern design. The place was full so it proves it is popular. I had read it was ALL about the freshly made dim sum that comes out on trollies served by staff. The service was not very good, we had to ask for water, cutler, the menu, and even to order...It seemed most residents in there have been before and knew what to do, we did not as it was our first time, and no one explained anything to us. The staff did not really speak or understand English too which was a shame as we could not understand what to do. It seems after watching people around us, you have to flag a staff member down and order dim sum from the carts and they mark down on a piece of card what you have had etc so it is added to the bill at the end of your visit. We however tried only one dim sum, of chicken which was delicious. We ordered a spare ribs appetizer (seemed to be more steamed with a sweet red sauce than baked) , egg fried special rice, and a beef dish. We also had some crispy duck which was brought out on the cart. The duck was good and crispy, but no sauce as such just floating in a very strong soy sauce which was too salty. I asked for some sauce but they did not understand and nothing arrived. The beef dish was too rich aswell, and the egg fried rice although pleasant was a little tasteless (my husband was not impressed). I would go again but would endeavor to stick to ONLY the dim sum. Everything else we tried was not the best to say the least and I was therefore disappointed. However I think if you go with a large group of say 6 or more and choose various fresh dim sum it would be a wonderful experience. Each dim sum dish had approx. 3 or four pieces, so if you ordered two plates you would be full and that would be your sampling, however with a large group you could sample lots and that would be I am sure a nice experience

Best Chinese food in South Florida me thinks Me girlfriend thinks so too 😎 If you're a cool dude like me, order the chicken w peppers. It makes your tongue go crazy and water will taste sour for an hour. Sunday with the dim sum carts is amazing !!

Sent a post card about the Peking Duck to my daughter!!

Chino Tropical is in a strip mall somewhere behind the airport but the food is worth the trip. It is a destination for Miami's foodies for Dim Sum. Great service and great food. Thank goodness it is in the boonies or you would never get a table!!

Racist and Awful service!

By ride2rhythm |

The service was awful. My friend and I went on Sunday, June 10, 2018 about 7:45 PM. I have had great service and food in the past, but on this night it was a bad experience . The restaurant was not busy, a usual Sunday night, with adequate serving staff. It took 30 minutes for our waiter take our order. While we were asking questions about the menu the waiter's attitude was impatient and not caring. However a party of 5 Persons next table over, who were of Asian (Chinese) were cared for by our same waiter with a smile, the waiter dished their food on each guest plate, he communicated asking questions, and giving the party of 5 the royal treatment. Mean while ignoring my friend and I at the next table as we died of thirst. We just wanted a refill on our water which another waiter finally brought at the end of our meal. I mentioned to the other waiter that we were being neglected by our waiter he stated that our waiter was very busy with the party of 5. I don't often say people are racist nor do I ever feel this often in Miami, but I am African American and my friend is Puerto Rican, we are both carmel complexion. On the way out I notice the hostess said good night to all those leaving except to my friend and I. Another reason why I am giving this racist restaurant one star is because the prices are outrageous now, compared to a few years ago the peaking duck was $40, now it is $75. A small plate of Bok choy is now $16 ( I am sure it's not organic). I will not be supporting this restaurant in the future. Funny I used to know the manager "May" whom I also thought was a warm and genuine person. What happen to this place?

Eat good food and drink lychee martinis! Fear not!

By JenniferNaomi |

Am a frequent diner at Tropical Chinese. I fancy myself a connoisseur of Chinese food, and this is my happy place. Last night, my spouse and I enjoyed an incredible dinner there, but it was only about 1/3 as busy as it normally is during dinner service. As news about Coronavirus abounds, I can only venture to guess that folks are afraid to purchase and consume food from Chinese restaurants, whether in-house or take-out. This is insane. There is more of a chance to contract a virus from an airport, a grocery store, a busy office building, or a shopping mall. The employees at Tropical Chinese don't travel out of the country during their busy season, which is from October through the end of May. Please people, stop your hysterical and racist outlooks and live your lives. Wash your hands no matter where you have been. Go to Tropical Chinese and enjoy the best Chinese food in the country. Bon Appetit.

Not so good!

By Jacques R |

Came to this place with office co-workers to have lunch! Service was a notch above average. The place looks somewhat clean… We ordered food that was ok, actually have had better Chinese in many other places in Miami. The Peking duck was average at best and when the crepes came, the only good part is they build the crepe for you, but the actual crepe is “not soft” and not well filled! After this the dick that comes ti the table could be better! The rest of the plates we ordered, Mongolian beef below average, low mein (avoid!) chicken with honey and garlic below average at best! They di have canned diet coke which I liked maybe the most. White rice was good though!! All in all, will not come back!

Decayed on my last two visits

By Dhnelson26 |

I liked so much tropical Chinese restaurant that I drove the 55 miles from where I live in boca raton just to eat the best dim sum and Peking duck in Florida. My last two trips have been a deception though. I don't know if they have changed the chef or is on vacation but the quality of the dim sum have gone down considerably. Shrimp dumpling don't taste like they used to anymore, the pork buns are dry and the filling not as good as before, etc. The dim sum are not bad but they are not as good as it used to be. I hope it is just a temporary situation but in the meantime I won't be driving down an hour just to have the same dim sum I can get in the Fort Lauderdale area. Hope you get your act together soon.

Mmmm

There are so many places like this in San Fran and New York City that this can hold its own with most of them. There's a great selection of dim sum that are wonderful.

Upscale Chinese Restaurant

By Jason Z |

Tropical Chinese Restaurant is an upscale gourmet chinese restaurant. Tired of the usual neighborhood Chinese Restaurant, Try Tropical. From the moment you enter the menus are different, also there is a full bar. The prices are fair do don't be put off by the previous description. They use tablecloths . Everything is a step above the ordinary. The snapper supreme is excellent, as is the Peking Duck. For lunch they have a dim sim restaurant that is very good.

Authentic Chinese Food in Miami

I miss chinese food, so I came to this restaurant with my colleagues for dinner. The serving style and the taste of the food is really authentic. Its like I am dining back in Hong Kong. If you want to try authentic chinese food, I would definitely suggest you to visit this restaurant.

We have been going there for Dim Sum for 10 yrs. now. Just wonderful. We drive From Weston almost every Sunday, very busy but it moves quickly. Sunday is the Busiest day. All the dishes are great, we love orange beef, and Crispy roast duck without their sauce it's too salty. It's amazing. Peking duck is great as well. Just go and you will understand. I'm from NY and this is as good as Chinatown.

Great food

By plonky74 |

First time we go after several recommendations. The food was great. Very rustic and natural flavor. The service excelente. The ambience for a Friday night good and pack. Will go again.

Special Fried Rice was excellent!

By LLLJr |

Special Fried Rice was excellent! It was freshly prepared. The Mongolian Beef was delicious as well.

Different

By Tammara C |

Ladies came around with different trolleys of food to offer which I have never experienced before. I enjoyed this experience and there was lots on offer. Staff were friendly. Food was okay. The only thing that slightly put me off was seeing meat hanging in the kitchen. I know I eat it but I don't really want to see it, if that makes sense. So if your the same sit on the other side or don't face where the chefs prepare

Best dim sum outside Asia!!!!

By tourist1965 |

After living in Asia for almost 10 years and having access to the best foods, it was like coming home when we entered tropical Chinese restaurant! It's noisy, it's a family affair and before you even really get to sit down, they come with carts and thrust food at you!!! Carts with all kinds of steamed dumplings, fried dumplings, carts with all sorts of buns, you name it it's there, just like in the tea houses of Shanghai !!! Great place, don't know why we waited so long to get there!!! But on my next visit to Miami this will be a must eat at place!!!!!!

Go for dinner

By Camilla_Barretto |

I visited Tropical 2x last week - once for dinner and once for lunch (Saturday). Dinner was simply delicious. We had a prawn dumpling (steamed) and the Emperor's Shrimp. Just perfect. The drink was a bit on the sweet side. However, I always go for the dim sum lunch and this Saturday it was below expectations. The quality was not the same as dinner's, we did not finish any of the dumplings we ordered (because they were not good) and the service was below par. The owner/or manager May was there and we told her on the spot. She could not have been nicer and took all of our complaints into consideration, inviting us to come back when we return to Miami to try it one more time!

Visit during Miami trip

By Minghui J |

It's pretty good in general. Some dishes were beyond my expectation, some were just average. They don't have some of my favorite dim sum dishes. But it's alright. Oh, I think they're a little pricier than other dim sum places I have been to. $54 for 2 ppl before tip.

Not your ordinary Chinese Restaurant -- Interesting and Good

By debdg |

You may have to wait and should have a reservation if at all possible, but this place is worth waiting for. Located in a strip mall opposite Tropical Park, this quite authentic feeling Chinese Restaurant features all the dishes you expect plus many special ones including a wide variety of dim sum and great duck dishes. One weekends, this is a popular brunch spot with waiters wheeling carts of small plates and dim sum. The open kitchen (behind glass) is nice too. Highly recommend. (A bit pricier than standard Chinese but worth it)

The best Chinese food in Miami.

By JenniferNaomi32 |

The food at Tropical Chinese is consistently amazing. The Peking Duck never disappoints. All of the dim sum items I have tried are also fantastic- do not miss the shrimp and pork shu mai, crispy roast pork with honey roasted soy beans, fried shrimp roll. The best dish on the menu is the Szechuan peppercorn fish in hot wok (spicy!). Also love the sizzling black bean chicken, ginger scallion steak, and dry saute beef chow fun noodles. Full bar.

Things change

By Anastasia3052018 |

Tonight was our first visit to Tropical Chinese restaurant since the pandemic began. It was a great disappointment. First impression: the tablecloths were gone, as were the cloth napkins. On the table were plates with paper napkins, a set of chopsticks and a commercial bottle of water - not even a glass - for each customer. We were there for dinner, but ordered some dim sum to begin. Both orders tasted like they had been reheated in used oil. The worst offender were the wok fried chicken potstickers - previously a great favorite of ours. They had indeed been fried, just not right before we got them. They were soggy, oily, and the only flavor was of that old oil. They arrived within two minutes of ordering them. The Peking Duck was good - but something odd was in the pancakes - something whitish - yellowish - was it a piece of fat? in every pancake. The second duck course was indeed good. The speed with which the food arrived, the unattractive table service.(the waiters were still very good) and the reheated dumplings led us to feel as if we’d eaten in a diner. A Chinese diner. One of our most favorite restaurants has changed beyond recognition.

terrific

Great chinese tropical restaurant in miami. They had the best food I have had in a long time. Highly recommended

35 years of Excellence

By Larry S |

We have been dining here for 25 of its 35 year history, Our first visit was a few weeks after we returned from a vacation in Hong Kong. The Chinese food (menu and dim sum cart) rivals the best Chinese food anywhere (NY, San Fransisco, Hong Kong). Dim Sum from carts is served at lunch time. This is a real treat. You pick what appeals to you and it is a real treat. Dishes are well prepared and tasty. Peking Duck is a special treat and does not have to be ordered in advance. The restaurant is in a strip mall next to Tropical Park. Well worth a visit.

A wonderful cantonese

We were surprised to found this very nice chinese restaurant. Fried rice with shrimps, egh rolls, sweet&sour meet and chicken. All in the most cantonese ambiance. Really chinese !!!

Amazing!

By Karyna C |

First time here a few days ago and I loved it! Great service as well as of course food! The duck was delicious! Honey chicken and fried was fantastic. Can't wait to go back! Well worth the price.

Better every time!

By Papa G |

Chinese controlled chaos sums up this dim sum Mecca in Miami! Throw Mother’s Day into the equation and you can imagine the bee hive this ordinarily busy place becomes. Either way, the carts of delicacies “keep on truckin’” by and there are surely some dishes that will “truck your blues away”! A Hot Tuna reference in quotes. 1st determine WHO your waiter is and memorize them. 2nd order a Lucky Buddha beer if so inclined 3rd order your preferred sauces and extra napkins western utensils and any special dish you may want off the menu ala carte 4th pick & point at the Chinese tapas paraded before you > devour & repeat. Great dishes include: Duck; Dumplings; Sticky Rice; & Orange Beef. Bon Appetite!

A must visit if you want good chinese food

By Les V |

Excellent food. It is one of the few places that offers true/delicious Chinese food. This restaurant has been in this location for years. Every time we visit we are truly pleased. Must tried.

Best Chinese Food in Miami

By SwampChicken |

Everything they make is great! I would highly recommend this place. I had moved out of the hood several years ago and went to eat there while on a Miami visit. It is still as good as ever. For all those complaining about prices, we have a saying in Spanish... "Lo bueno se paga"...

Best chinese food in Miami!

By Allan M |

Been there several times and never had missed a beat. The duck is its specialty and although is expensive, it is worth it! Very extensive menu but many of its dishes are good as well. To me, is the best Chinese restaurant in Miami, worth trying!

Great and tasty food

By Richard Y |

My friend and I had the Peking duck which was served in a unique manner. The pancakes were wrapped in a cone shape and served in a tray like ice cream cones. We got 6 conical pancakes each and they were tasty. Then we had the secondary dish of pieces of duck (not used in the pancake) with the 2 drum sticks with vegetables and noodles, Chinese Style. We also had the scallops and vegetables, and steamed rice of course. The food was cooked for the American palette but still discernible as genuine Chinese food. Restaurant was buzzing (Friday evening) and that helped the ambiance. Understand they serve a great Dim Sum also. Will revisit if opportunity presents itself. The owner was mixing with the guests which is also a great sign of a friendly establishment.

Bday surprise

By MarieChantal75 |

Excellent restaurant in South Miami, large place extremely busy need reservation for dinner Saturday for sure, ask table by the wine cellar one of the best sitting. Waiters are over skills cutting the Peking duck are amazing to watch. Presentation absolutely great on every dishes, specially the snapper supreme market price. Love the skin of duck wrapped and the way they setting it on the table. We ask for duck with skin because they ask you skin or no skin, fat but love it. I recommend that restaurant 1000%

SOOOOOO GOOD!

By Barbara Z |

The food is hot and so, so good. The service is excellent! Clean and nice ambiance. Busy place! Highly recommend Dim Sum! Go and stuff your face you'll be glad you did.

Food was Different but Very Good, Staff not attentive.

By katewoman612 |

This restaurant is hard to find at night our GPS sent us around in circles a few times . . . it's behind a stand alone building in a strip mall. Also, poor street lighting making it difficult to read street signs at night. Our original waiter was not very helpful . . he was very unhappy when we did not order any cocktails. We decided to stick with Chinese food we know and have enjoyed over the years. So we shared the Hot and Sour Soup for 2 and it was seasoned well, with a lot of veggies, mushrooms and tofu, very delicious. I had Lo Mein with roast pork, chicken, shrimp and veggies; it was disappointing I have never had Lo Mein that it was thin like a thread and mostly veggies very little pork, chicken or shrimp. They say they use fresh ingrediants but the shrimp was not fresh and cooked like rubber. My husband had General Cho's Chicken he said it had very little flavor. Every time we tried to get our waiters attention someone else came over to us and they did not seem to understand us.

Excellent Szechuan and Chinese food

By William D |

We had General Tso's Chicken and Honey Garlic chicken and both were excellent. On prior occasions I had Peking Duck in 2 courses and it was outstanding. Their dim sum is also great with many choices served from carts. They have many vegetarian and vegan choices on the menu.

As close to the real deal as you can get in Miami

By PaulSnood |

Tropical is a Miami institution that compares very well with dozens of other Dim Sum palaces I've checked out around the world. I believe they are the only or one of very few in South Florida that still serves on carts on weekends. Their regular menu is a little more adventurous and exciting than your typical Chinese with some exotic offerings. The tableside Peking Duck presentation is excellent, with the crispy skin hand rolled into pancakes and placed in a special rack for the appetizer, followed by the perfect duck meat stir fried with veggies (ask for chiles if you like it hot!) It serves 2 people, doesn't require advance ordering, and I think is reasonably priced at about $70.00.

Dim Sum Heaven

By Hian C |

Surprised the Dim Sum dishes were very good&authentic! You can actually look into the kitchen, cooks preparing your food through a glass window! Dim Sum dishes were rolled around from table to table like it should be! The only thing I was not satisfied with and got really disturbed was the service! You see.... The real and authentic Dim Sum restaurants are usually run by Hong Kong Chinese in almost all over the world! And they do it very well,But they always tend to be so arrogant in their service! Here,it's the servers&managers, very seldom they'll smile, not friendly at all, very abrupt , they stress you to order, don't clear the table until you stand up to go!(that's almost all restaurants in South Florida) One reason I don't go to both Toa Toa in Sunrise and here so often unless I have a crazy craving for Dim Sum! Sad ! But food can overcome bad behavior sometimes. Not always, especially when there's other competitors! Charm Lessons should be introduce! You're not in Hong Kong!

Great Chinese Choice , worth visit

We were traveling from fort Lauderdale to west Lon , made this great discovery by the edge of row. Surely a spot to be discovered by the brave of the sword. Will surely repeat this fantastic asiatic gastro experience. Rate plus

Delicious dim sum and Cantonese food

By Reginaldo C |

We ate at Tropical twice during our Christmas visit to Miami. Both times were great - the dim sum was fresh and tasty. Go early (before noon) if you are a big group, the place gets packed by noon, and especially on weekends. The selection of dim sum is good, and depending on what and how much you eat, averages about $15 - 20 per person.

Great food

By Carlos E |

We highly recommend this place is you are looking for real Chinese food with good service and a clean room. These guys have the best dim sung in town!

A shadow of it's former self. Crowded.

By wernolabound |

Hadn't been in for a while. We Rrived Friday evening and got a table for four right away. Way too many tables too close together. Wait staff and bus staff were surly and looked unhappy to be there. We ordered fairly standard dishes of General's chicken, Curry beef, Hot and Spicy soup, vegetable spring rolls and pork buns. Nothing was special and we all had stomach aches afterwards. When time came to get the bill it took 25 minutes. The best thing was the pork bun. Maybe the Dim sum is better. We won't be back.

THE dim sum spot in Miami

By Wendy C |

This continues to be my dim sum spot for now over 30 years. Tropical has maintained a standard of excellence and I’m hard pressed to name a dim sum dish that I don’t love . This is THE dim sum spot in Miami

Very Good Dim Sum and very Chinese

By Tom Z |

If you like Chinese food visit this unpretentious but very authentic Chinese restaurant . Large selection Dim Sum and relaxed ambiance. Be patient with the waiters, their English/Spanish still rough.

We Enjoy

By jamesprich |

Have been here a number of times by ourselves and with other couples. Tricky to locate but well worth the effort. Not a lot of Dim Sum places in South Miami. The food is quite good although the atmosphere is pure diner. Very nice people and knowledgeable about what's being served.

Bit chaotic, but great food

By Hansel S |

So the place is busy and has tons of wait staff running around, but the food is good and fresh and comes out quickly. The bad buns are AMAZING as is the Black Bean Chicken. Would come back here again, any day.

Nothing outstanding

By Robin747474 |

I expected more due to all the hype about this restaurant. The food was solid although nothing extraordinary. The staff was good also. Now I’m not sure if this was a one off or this is common practice, warm water bottles on table instead of glasses of ice water, not a fan. The food is also pricey for the portions. It gets pretty packed even during the week and it was warm in the restaurant. Overall a very average experience. I probably would not return when there are so many other outstanding restaurants in that price range in Miami.

China

Be like your in China Amazing Peking Duck and more..... Dim sum carts awesome, love it Airport 🔜 Tropical

Terrible Dim Sum

By Ira S |

This is by far the worst Dim Sum I have eaten. Far better to drive to Gold Marquess in Pembroke Pines. Food was disgusting!!

Good Dim-Sum

By Agostinho G |

Of all the Chinese restaurants in the Miami area, this is the second best for dim-sum -- the first one in Hakassan. I am not sure this is a compliment because all I have tried, except Hakassan, dim-sum are, say, average quality. Service at Tropical is good and all waiters/waitresses speak good English -- compared to poor English you find in most similar places in other U.S. cities. Regular Chinese food is very good.

Delicious Dim Sum

By Digital Nomade |

We had a great experience at tropical Chinese even though they don't take resis we were seated swiftly. We were there last Sunday and knew we had picked the right place as it was packed and buzzing with people from all over. We tried a little bit of everything and loved it all - our fav was orange chicken, broccoli, chicken dumplings and shrimp shumai. Overall great spot for a reasonably priced lunch with quick service. We live in Edgewater and this spot was defiantly worth the drive!

Wow! Chinese food you can eat! Who knew?

By Michael P |

Went for the first time. Long ride, but worth it. Outstanding? Not really. But very, very good, considering good Chinese restaurants are becoming so rare. Service was fine if not gracious, all food was hot and well prepared. Every reason to go if you are looking for a Chinese dinner, and no reason not to.

Complete Dining Experience with Great Authentic Chinese Food and Fine Beverages

By SunnyT1969 |

This one is an oldie but a goodie! I visited Miami for the first time after 25 years and pleasantly found Tropical in the same location but twice the original size, with even better and more refined food and beverage choices! Visiting from Southern California and growing up in Asia, I know my good Chinese food. Tropical was the place that satisfied my craving for Chinese food 25 years ago. This time, it not only serves great authentic Chinese food (including some of the more adventurous choices) but also has good wines and liquors to accompany a great meal. I enjoyed the Szechuan peppercorn fish, eggplants in hot pot, funky chicken, leek dumplings, and Chinese anchovy and sausage fried rice. All excellent. I am particularly impressed with the eggplants because I love eggplants but they tend to be overly oily or saucy. But not here. They were flavorful and yet light. This Angeleno is impressed! Not only the food is right on, they have good wines and good whiskey to complement the great food, which makes the whole experience complete.

Guaranteed quality chinese food

By anabellepaulino |

It continues to offer spectacular service- i will alway come back on days where i feel like eating a lot and chinese food. The leek dumplings are a must. The egg rolls are ok. The ginger soup is a must. A buddha beer and the duck are also a must. The hot sauce is even great. If its your first time just order off the carts that move around but if you want something a little speical- get the duck - its the best duck I have had in miami- they keep in simple and managment/ownership hasn't changed in years! I love it and will always go back at least once a month!

Table for eight

By 141Dini |

We had a very good dinner here with a group of 8. We started off with a variety of appetizers, spring rolls, spare ribs, wonton soup and they were all great. Peking duck was delicious and the lobster with ginger was wonderful. We also had beef and chicken sesame but my favorite was chicken with basil. Yum. Service was friendly and efficient. Well worth the drive.

The best chinese food - ever!

By Anastasia3052018 |

Lunch every day is wonderful dim sum, dinner is fabulous - great Peking Duck and it is there and ready to order without pre-ordering. It is a regular special place for us and always a treat!

Avoid this awful Chinese restaurnat

By LondonDds |

We booked a table for 5 for a family supper. We were greeted by ‘Mama San’ who immediately left for another task and we were kept waiting and finally shown to our table (set for 4 not 5) by someone else. We ordered a modest meal which included Peking duck. We expected the whole duck but were served wrapped parcels and later what looked like the remains of someone else’s duck. Rest of the food was only average. We struggled to get the attention of the waiting staff and were served each time by a different waiter, so questions about the lack of a whole duck were met with a shrug. We thought the meal was expensive for what we ate. I decided against a tip because the service was so dire and after the meal tried to have a quiet word with ‘Mama San’ and was met with a barrage of abuse. Avoid.

Excellent Peking duck

By K2308KGfrancescar |

The place is very large and tidy, fast service, excellent Peking duck at decent prices. Ask to eat or take away the legs and wings too. Try the rest.

Best Dim Sum in Miami

By Randy B |

Good food, great variety of items, fair pricing. Make reservations for Sunday Dim Sum. Fills up quick and always a line.

Lots of authentic items

By TravelingFoodie |

I have only been here once so have limited experience but it seemed that they do have mostly authentic Chinese food. The dim sum we've tried were good from chicken to pork and shrimp, but the deep fried squid I was not impressed with. Ordered a peking duck, it was fun to have it partially taken apart at the table and have them make the "cones" for us. The sauce was not as much to my liking and the duck is also average. However this place was full of Chinese and one could have a typical and reasonable Chinese lunch or dinner here.

Extremely Disappointed

By Heavens0815 |

I went with my daughter for my first time to the Tropical Park Chineese Restaurant around 2:30pm and they gave us a table immediately. The server I guess did not understand English. The Dim Sum that we selected we’re good but we had to ask the people there for a menu to order. When the waiter was taken our order I guess he did not understand what I order because my Shrimp fried rice was with white rice, eggs and very little shrimps like small size shrimps. My daughter order Orange Chicken I asked the waiter if that came with white rice and he said yes. I guess he did not understood my question and that is the reason my shrimp fried rice was white and very salty. I really do not recommend this restaurant as the customer service is super poor, the quality of food is terrible and the prices are too high. I lived in New York and by far this is not authentic Chineese food.

Christmas Eve a disaster!!!!!!

By junebug829 |

Made reservations for 11 a week ahead 0f time for our traditional X-Mas eve family Chinese Dinner. Arriver 15 min early and found the place jammed inside and out. We asked several times what was going on, no one seemed to be in charge. It looked like they did not have enough servers and cooks in the kitchen. They were so slammed they did not know what they were doing. After waiting 1 hr 15 min. we left. This is a very popular place to go for X-mas eve dinner and they have been doing it for years. Shame on you Tropical Chinese for for taking too many reservations... not having enough help.. and being so disorganized. We have been loyal customers since they opened and will not be back for a while!!!!

Best Dim Sum in Miami

By daigdude |

The Tropical Chinese is a Miami classic (since 1984). Before you get to enjoy the fabulous Dim Sum though, you do have to park your vehicle... good luck! Its one crammed parking lot with way to few spots for the amount of traffic. Ok - so you are one of the chosen ones and you were able to park... get ready for authentic Chinese dim sum with friendly and efficient service. Dim Sum ends at 3:30pm - they do run low/out on some of the more popular plates towards the day's end. A few tips: 1. Grab a Dim Sum menu as you walk in - got photos of all the little dishes - sometime the Chinese server's explanation is not that clear 2. Once you are seated and the tea is served, you will be swarmed by one cart after another - pace yourself.. its not a race.. that dumpling cart WILL return.. Breathe - order a few plates and take your time. Otherwise you will be out of there in 5 minutes. 3. The table has soy and hot sauce - order some Hoisin sauce to go along Skip the water - drink the hot tea 4. My Fav's: just about all the dumplings(leek, scallop, shrimp..), Roast Pork Bun (McDaddy!), Chinese broccoli ginger pork bun... what am I saying - its all good (maybe I would pass on the chicken feet) 5. Really easy to order too much - good opportunity for a take-home box

Freshly prepared

By karen B |

Worth the hour ride to get there. Food was prepared with care. Not salty, service was great. My son got a dish called Precious Duck. He loved it. What I didn't like was that there were no refills on soda. I would go back again but when I am in the area.

Really Great for a Dim Sum Breakfast!

By Guest150 |

Excellent Dim Sum. They open at 11:00 on the weekends so hold off on an early breakfast at home and have a rewarding tasty feast of hot, freshly prepared dim sum dishes. The servers are all very professional, pleasant and many have been there for over 10 years. The entire facility is extremely clean and the food is great.

Great dim sum

By AnaZad |

I have been going to this restaurant for many years and today as well. I like that their quality of food is always great. Love to stop for dim sum, since I know I will be eating soon and good. In addition there are many thing from the menu that I love, mostly the Pekin Duck.

Best Dim Sum

By Angelo M |

They serve daily "Dim Sum" for lunch. Great dim sum and chinesse food. Fresh and lots of variety. One of the best chinesse Ive ever been and I am a chinesse fan. Enjoy 😊

Great dim sum

By Andrea H |

Overall our experience was good. The dim sum is amazing, by far the best in Miami. The peking duck was okay, personally I thought it lacked flavor. Service has space for vast improvement. It took a while for our server to ask what we wanted to drink. During the whole time we were there he was never around. Go for the Dim Sum...AMAZING

Quite the cultural experience!

By Pineapples-a-Plenty |

We had a fantastic dinner. The service was excellent, atmosphere interesting. Nothing fancy at all, but it works. Lots of good chemistry. The place was packed. Their menu is extensive. The food is outstanding. Pricey, but worth it! Will go back in a flash!

Good Spicy Seafood Dish

By Richard H |

This was a pick-up order for their Spicy Seafood Delicacy for my mother. She said the dish was tasty. Keeping this on my list to purchase again in the future.

Hard To Find; Worth it!

By Jim R |

Have been twice and was very satisfied each time. First time wife and I; second time we invited another couple to join us. Food is well prepared and tasty and the selection vast. Service very efficient, personable and knowledgeable about the menu items. Fine beer and wine offering. Definitely a cut above the usual Oriental restaurant.

The best dim sum and we've eaten a lot!

By RaeKY |

We have eaten dim sum all over the world. The dim sum at Tropical Chinese is as good as it gets! All the items are freshly prepared. The dumplings are light and the fillings are perfectly seasoned. The shrimp "har gow" are filled with delicious shrimp. The pork siu mai were tender, light and perfectly flavored. The shrimp eggrolls are unlike any we've had; the wrappers were very light and the filling so flavorful. The fried calamari with jalapeño slices was over-the-top. The restaurant is very clean and the service impeccable. I wouldn't come back to Miami without making a stop here.

Dim Sum with cart service

By Annette F |

If you want white table cloth with cart service for dim sum, this is the place to go to. We had a delicious lunch of an assortment of dim sums to welcome the New Year. Of course we ate too much ... from chicken feet (not everyone's taste, but you've got to try them), to shrimp dumplings, to steamed buns. The shrimp sui mai were delicious. The sesame balls were freshly made, among the best I've had. It's a pretty, bustling restaurant, but I found where we were sitting to be a bit dark, which I did not enjoy. The cart service was a bit inconsistent. There seemed to be 2 carts with the same items. Finally, we ordered additional dim sums from a waiter.

Chinese Food

By Margot B |

Really the best Chinese food in Miami! At lunch, the dim sum carts keep coming through until 3:30 PM and dinner is À la Carte! Superb food, extremely clean and good service makes one leave thinking about when " am I returning?"

Chinese Dim Sum

By Miamismith305 |

A tradional dim sum (chinese cuisine prepared as small bite-sized portions served in small steamer baskets) not found in many places in Miami. The decoration is Chinese with contemporary accents. The place was packed, I would suggest making a reservation (specially on sundays). They do not offer a happy hour. Don't forget to try the Peking Duck!

Great food - worth the drive from south beach

By Hanif N |

Love the food....the service...truly enjoyed ourselves. The dim sum is very good, hot&sour soup was extremely tasty

Excellent Peking Duck.

By regalo70 |

The Peking duck was very good. The offer a fairly good selection of wines by the bottle. The ambiance was above average for a Chinese food restaurant. The waiter was fair.

Dim sum on parade

By AlexdvRN |

Assorted dim sum carts parade constantly for you to choose from, make sure they are fresh and hot otherwise you can request for new servings. One of the better few Chinese restaurants in Miami that serves authentic dim sum not fusion type dumplings masquerading as dim sum. It is best to come early when they just opened to have the dim sums fresh. Highly recommended.

AWFUL DIRTY ROACHES

By Micolw |

This restaurant was awful! Look up the health inspection before dining here. Had Peking duck which was just crispy skin. They take the meat and charge you for crispy skin! Terrible.

Best Dim Sum in Miami and beyond

By Elizabeth M |

We visit this restaurant every time we are in Miami. Their dim sum rivals any in New York's Chinatown, and portions are large. Each dish is delicious and there is a lot of variety. The ladies who come around with their carts go out of their way to be sure your choices are hot. Everyone is pleasant and service is excellent. We have had dim sum all over the world, and rate this among the best anywhere.

Dim Sum Lunch

By Jacobo O |

Had a great lunch with my wife and son. Great dumplings! Try the leek dumplings and shrimp and pork. Very good egg rolls.

Tropical isn't what it used to be!

By Lianne P |

This used to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in Miami back in the day. I stopped going because I found THE ASIAN KITCHEN on Bird Rd & 58th AVE which I love. There was a fire there this past February and they haven't reopened. Matter of fact they've disappered and not even their phone number works! Anyway, I ordered fried rice for pick-up from Tropical and it was terrible! Didn't taste like anything and didn't have bean sprouts, scallions (green onion) or scrambled egg . Never again!!!

Terrible !!!

By Stephen B |

Quite surprised at last nights meal, at how awful it was, compared to 2years ago and recent take outs. The appetizers came,”Pan fried” chicken dumplings where obviously microwaved? Wet& slimy not crispy , veggie spring rolls dripping in oil, ribs where lukewarm with cold sauce. Note: I was very hungry due to skipping lunch as we were going out that night. It was so far edible ,but not at all up to previous standards or $$$$. Here came the entrees,( fingers crossed). Chicken Tso was unevenly cooked, some pieces were still raw in center, discovered after eating some already, and the Orange Beef(?) was nauseatingly sweet. So much sauce thick as marmalade, was scraped off to try to taste the “ mystery meat” it was stringy & tough, probably flank or skirt steak? Should be NY strip . Needless to say I am very disappointed in that visit and will not recommend eating there to anyone ever. I am almost 60, I am a good cook and know good food , last night was garbage ! It seemed that they were behind and just getting it out ASAP, no quality at all , and for the top $$$ payed inexcusable. I ended getting sick and still feel it today 12 hrs later. In closing never send food back anywhere and eat what comes back, I figured since we did try to eat some we would pay and talk to manager on way out. When I did tell manager how bad the food was, I got blank stare, and it seemed all of a sudden he didn’t understand or speak English…. No sorry, or credit for next time ,?…. Nada, nil, zilch… prior he welcomed and spoke to us perfectly. My suggestion is eat at home cook yourself like I usually do .

Real Chinese Food in Miami

By M1878BSoscarm |

I love Dim sum and they have it every day although not sure about Sundays. When the dim sum carts go by try a plate of a few things and then later you can get more of what you liked most. My son loves the sticky rice and the duck which always has a nice and crispy skin.

Dirty tables, rude waitress, bill not clear.

By jacquie g |

Mediocre service, small portions that are expensive for the poor quality. The waitress put many small portions of fried dim sum in our plates without us asking her too. Like pushing us to take what they sell less.

Dim Sum at it's best in superb atmosphere

By aslanf192 |

We went 2 couples for lunch & the only hard part trying to find a parking space in the strip shopping center where Tropical Chinese was located. I actually would consider using a taxi next time ! The dim sum keeps coming & coming as smiling ladies bring you exotic goodies. I don't know how they do it but in addition to the dim sum you are accustomed to, TROPICAL always has new varieties & the dare devil in you naturally wants to sample the new stuff ! don't know what everything I ate was but it was the best ! Kudos to TROPICAL !

Best Dim Sum In Miami

By Dinorah415 |

Dim sum in Miami! I had given up finding decent Chinese food in Miami, but we have found it! We went for dim sum and it was so good! Everything we selected was authentic. Don't miss the shrimp and tomato dumpling.

Not So Hot

By DDUHCMIJ |

We went for a late dinner (9 pm) on a Tuesday. The food was average, but the temperature was barely warm. We had a few bites, then sent the main dish and fried rice to be reheated. They came back steaming, but quickly lost temperature again. (Tip for the restaurant - serve on hot plates like most competent Chinese restaurants.) Service was less than friendly, almost surly, but prompt. We went based on the #1 rating of Trip Advisor clients for Chinese food in Miami, driving a half hour from North Beach. Disappointing is my most generous rating for the overpriced experience.

Liked it

The restaurant was full at lunch time and mostly with Asian people which is a good sign. Pretty decent dim sum choices, enjoyable peking duck and the typical Chinese efficient and speedy service.

Best Dim Sum in Miami

By 22travelMB |

Tropical Chinese Restaurant has my favorite Dim Sum in Miami. They have a large variety of dishes, all of them delicious, and you can also order off the regular menu, which is a plus. We come often on sundays and it never disappoints. Only funny thing is that the servers sometimes seem to be what we call lost in translation, as they seem to be foreign and sometimes don't quite get what you are ordering.

Significant room for improvement in the quality of food, not what it used to be

By Eduardo F |

It is not what it used to be the quality of food, some items overpriced, you might get same in Chinese take out restaurants.

Dim Sum Heaven!

By Fernando A |

Hands Down the BEST Chinese restaurant in Miami and one of the best in the USA! The service is second to none, the food is amazing and the Dim Sum is the best one in all of Miami. Their Szechuan menu is amazing! Best General Tso's Chicken anywhere!

Always Great!

By 2lifeadventure |

Went here late night with 2 friends, it had been about a year since I had last been here, as it is a bit far from the area I usually frequent for restaurants. I am so glad I went, its as good or better than I remembered it, always great service, the Dim Sum is variety is just outright fantastic, if you're a Dim Sum fanatic, this is THE place! Fried Rice is particularly good. The Peking Duck is to die for. The Lettuce Song of Roast Duck was particularly good. No MSG here, all is fresh ingredients, well made. It is a true high-quality Chinese food place. I strongly suggest you come here with at leat 4 people or more, as there is so much variety to choose from, and its all good, that the more people in your party, the more variety of dishes you can taste. For those that are out of towners, this is a great place if you have the yearning for Chinese food, and the prices are very reasonable.

Great Chinese for Non-Chinese eaters

By Mark R |

I am not a big Chinese food fan but this was as good as I have ever had. Amazing selection. We ordered family style and everything was great.

Great Dim Sum!!

By Manny A |

Visited on a Sunday during lunch time and this place was packed. We were only two so luckily we were sat right away. Before we knew it the dim sum carts were right there with plenty to chose from. Everything was fresh and tasty. Excellent way to have a quick lunch and try a lot of different things. Will be back!

Bit pricey but more authentic than the rest

By Gemma G |

Very expensive but the vegetables are amazing, the fried rice is sublime and the other dishes remind me of the proper restaurants you get in China Town. They even serve the take-out in the American style boxes. The service is attentive and efficient, the food is delicious and authentic but it is a little more expensive - treat yourself to this restaurant once in a while, its definitely worth it.

good food

By BocaRatonBill |

Fantastic Chinese food and especially the Dim Sum. This is the ONLY place in South Florida with the NY style Dim Sum Carts and the preparations are excellent. I will drive one hour to visit this place and only wish they would open up another restaurant in Broward or Palm Beach County.

Best and Cleanness

Best and Cleanness. You can see your meal prepared. Worth the time and money to experience authentic Chinese food.

Finally found a quality neighborhood Chinese restaurant in Miami

By The-Captain818 |

The staff was very communicative and helpful when ordering. The atmosphere was enhanced with a "wall-of-wine" and white table clothes. Maybe the dish prices reflected those amenities but the food was still the star and worth the extra cost above and beyond your standard Chinese restaurant. The food was creatively prepared and presented on hot plates. We were given new plates with each course change. I was very surprised when I placed our Dim Sum order and the waiter walked away. That was actually very nice. We ate the Dim Sum then placed the rest of our order. It was Father's day weekend, every seat was taken, and we were not being rushed. No one around us seemed to be impatient either. Food kept coming out of the kitchen and showing up at every table. I saw smiles throughout the restaurant.

Too rushed

By mwooduk |

I came here for a business lunch recently and while I appreciate that dim sum is fairly instant, we literally had food being shoved in our face before we'd even taken our seats and down and got our bags under the table! It's one thing to be quick but another thing to be extremely rushed. Also one of the vegetarian dishes we ordered was under cooked and almost impossible to eat. However the rest of the food was good. Also if you come close to the end of the dim sum lunch service, some of the dishes are already gone and your choices are more limited so come early if you're coming.

Not so bad Chinese

By Hansel S |

Was in the mood for some Chinese for lunch, went here based on reviews I found. Service was excellent, the dim sum was ok as was the General Tso's chicken. Now the chicken fried rice, that was excellent. If I were to go back here, I will go back as the service was truly great, hoping this was a one off.

The Worst Pekin Duck Ever

By Marco |

We had the worst dinner experience in our life. We ate the worst Pekin Duck We had ever had. The waitres brought the whole duck to our table (gret) took out the skin (so far so good) and took the duck back to the kitchen. They were suposed to cut the Duck in front of us, as all the good Chinese Restaurants in the world are used to do. More than that they came back with a plate with less than 20% of the duck meat. They gave us the two legs of the duck and no Briest (the best part of the duck). There was not food enought for even one person. Please note that we paid for a full duck. When I asked to manager about that he told me, he laught and told me that it is the way they do that. You know what is crazy? The reataurant offer Duck Briest ( Magrer de Canair) in it menu. What do you think about it? Let’s guess where mu Duck Briest went to!!!!

Mediocre yet expensive dim sum

By Gloabtrotter |

My lunch companion and I had the usual dim sum fare - egg tarts, char siew bao, glutinous rice, siew mai, har gow (shrimp dumplings), lotus paste filled sesame balls, har cheong fun (shrimp in long thick white noodles), and pork and veg potstickers. Most of the items were warm but not hot, and looked like they had been made hours prior to when we got there at 1pm. Small dishes were 4.85 and large dishes 6.55. The bill for 2 of us came to just under $50. Higher quality dum sum meals that I have had in New York, Toronto or London have been about $35.

Best Dim Sum Around

I love this dim sum place. So hard to find good dim sum down in miami. I have never tried the other food they have here just the dim sum.

Everyone likes this place

We have eaten here many times over the years. The food and service have always been very good. On the weekends go for the Dim Sum and enjoy the many choices. I have always enjoyed the baked buns and various dumplings. My wife likes the pan fried noodles with chicken.

The best Chinese in south Florida

By Spartyan |

Totally recommended!! The place is elegant and service is awesome. I have heard that people from West Palm Beach drive south more than an hour to have dinner here. The best is their duck and the rest is also perfect.

Best Chinese Food in Miami

By garnetngolden76 |

Tropical Chinese Restaurant is probably best known for its dim sum lunches... excellent quality, quick service, and many choices. They serve lunch daily until 3:00. I recommend that anyone who is interested in great Chinese food try it for lunch, but also for dinner. The dinner menu also has many choices, but don't expect them to offer you the standard American Chinese food fare. Most of the food is authentic Chinese cooking... ask your waiter if you're not sure what to order. They're a bit more expensive than a typical Chinese restaurant, but the food is not typical and well worth the price.

Revisiting the Tropical Chinese restaurant

By Sarushkaya |

I remember that I had visited this restaurant in the long distance past. I revisited last night with family. They have very strict Covid-19 measures in place in order to enter the restaurant. Each table has an alcohol spray bottle available. We started with some Dim Sum: Shrimp Wonton & Fried Balls. They were good, crispy and enough shrimp filling. The Sweet and Sour sauce was kind of watery and insipid. Young Chow Fried Rice & Dynasty Pork Chop(I know it as Peking Pork Chop) fried pork chops glazed with a sweet sauce, it was ok, but not a hit. The Rice we liked it, although it lacked the Chinese Bean Sprouts that I’m accustomed to see on this kind of stir fried rices. We were in awed seeing the neighboring table being served the Peking Duck, as it was table sided expertly carved and prepared. Attentive service was provided.

Real Cantonese experience

By hectorfrommiami |

The only real Cantonese cuisine restaurant in Miami, offering Dim Sum plus a good assortment of dishes that taste great, in generous portions at prices that go accordingly. For example, the portion of Special Fried Rice is around $12 but a person can eat twice out of a portion. The only drawback is they do offer a variety of desserts, but just bring a peeled orange with a cherry for each per guest, and the customary Fortune Cookie. As in any other restaurant, the alcoholic beverage prices are quite high. We have been celebrating there the Chinese New Year two years in a row

Wise man say “Change is not always good”

By Ken |

This had been our Chinese go to for many years (arguably the best in South Florida) but during our last visit in January 2021 it was clear the manager we had known for so many years was gone, staff was different and most importantly the food was not the same. Many items had changed and most certainly not up to the high quality standard and consistency we had enjoyed for so many years. Not sure why they would change such a successful formula. Previously this restaurant was a 10 out of 10 today I would give it a very average 5 to 6. Unfortunate. Now looking for a better alternative.

The Best

Simply the best dumpling and dinner restaurant! The service is wonderful , the food is even better. Each dish is prepared, so special we are so lucky to have this in South Florida.

An excelent Chinese Restaurant in Miami

By lechilango |

After getting lost driving to this restaurant, the loss was worth it. I took the precaution of reserving a table calling the place, and thanks to that we got seated inmediately. The menu is impresive, pure and real Chinese food, with pictures describing each specialty. As appetizer, we had salt &pepper calamary. As main course, and although we were only a couple, we had the Peking Duck. Absolutely delicious. Chinese beer, Lucky Buddha is perfect to accompany the meal. Service was perfect, with avery dedicated and care-taking personnel. A great place to go if you like Chinese Food.

Fantastic dim sum

By mkd_travelmania |

Great family restaurant: all the dim sum are DELICIOUS! So many to choose from...Yum! the pork soup dumplings are of note. The sweet and sour beef and the salt and pepper shrimp were great entrees. The half duck: super tender inside and crispy outside. The place has been renovated since we were there last and it looks great by comparison: love all the lanterns hanging from ceiling. Nice touch! Service always great. ;) will def go back.
