The exterior of this restaurant is very unassuming. However, the food is bomb! It was fresh & absolutely delicious The service was great and the price was right. I highly recommend Troy ATX.

Great home made Turkish food

By anton v |

The freshly made Turkish food here is wonderful. I had the Chicken Tantuni and it was delicious. The hummus, sarma and baklava were excellent as well. The staff was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. You can bring your own wine.

Wonderful find! Excellent food.

Visited 2014-11-24 1150 for lunch. This was out first visit to this restaurant in our neighboorhood. Had Chicken Tantuni Plate $9.95, Beef Iskender $11.95, and water $0.95. Plate price included salad, rice, entree, tea and dessert. They also offer sandwich and salad versions of entrees at lower cost. Chicken and beef were delicious. The beed Iskender was beef, yogurt, tomato sauce, and rice. Chicken Tantuni included peppers and spices, green salad, and rice. Hot turkish tea was good. Dessert was excellent and not too sweet. We arrived and there were two others in restaurant. There were 16 patrons when we left, and several people picked up take away orders. Owner provided a sample of another beef entree to patrons around the room. Staff was courteous, friendly, and professional. Restrooms were available and clean. Open for lunch and dinner. We will return.

Nice addition to the Northwest Austin dining scene

I have eaten here a couple times since they opened, I've really enjoyed their plates and kebabs. Troy is a bit hidden on the corner of Mesa and Spicewood Springs, it's tucked back in the corner of a mini strip mall behind a Valero gas station. The space is small but welcoming, and the family style seating makes it easier to find a spot (or spots) when it's crowded. The staff is super friendly, I think it's a family run place and they go out of their way to be accomodating, whether you're dining in or getting a to-go order. Every time I've been, they've given me a tea (not nearly as strong as Turkish coffee), and the last time I did take-out it was crowded and took a while, so they gave me a free dessert. My wife is vegetarian and she really likes their vegetarian plate, and I've had both their beef and chicken prepared a couple different ways. My favorite is the beef kebab, but everything (including the sides) has been very tasty. Nicely seasoned, well-prepared, and balanced taste. I'm not a huge dessert guy, and I have to say I don't love their desserts, but they're far from bad. It's great to have a decently-priced Turkish dining option in town, I hope Troy sticks around as the tastes are excellent and the price is right.

Cozy place ,nice atmosphere Fast service , delicious Mezze and Kebab 👌🏻 A real Turkish restaurant for Mediterranean cuisine lovers

Great food and wonderful service

By Om Maniyar |

Visited recently with family. We have too quite a few Mediterranean restaurants this year. The food here is very distinct and delicious. Meme plate is a great sampler. We licked everything clean! Acura is very delicious. For the main dish we had Falafel plate and Troy mix plate. Both were good. The quantity is a bit smaller compared to other Mediterranean restaurants but it makes up in the taste. The atmosphere is non pretentious and homely. Service is amazing. The server was very pleasant. Highly recommended.

Mouth watering!

I was in Austin for only a day (business meeting), but try to hit a local eatery in that town known for its wonderful cuisine. I found Troy on Yelp, and paid it a visit. Parking can be tough, because it is in a small corner strip mall in a hilly area of town. However, it is worth it! I ordered the combo, included salad and rice with three samples of meat (Turkish meatball, spicy chicken, and beef). The menu describes the chicken as "boiled" but that sells it short. It is simmered in a savory tomato spice concoction and served over rice. I wanted to lick the plate when I was finished! The meal came with hot tea and a dessert (which tasted like tapioca over pumpkin bread - yummy). The reason I gave it 4 stars (not five): 1) I need to visit a place more than once and try other dishes to earn 5 stars, and 2) seating arrangements leaves something to be desired. There are several tables which seat 6 people, a couple which seat 2, and then one humongous table which can seat a large party, or several small ones. I guess the American in me prefers to have a little "space." Visit Troy! The owners (husband/wife and son) are friendly, gracious, and clearly terrific cooks!

Very good but too small

By 4d4l0525 |

Outstanding flavor, considering all dishes are prepared from scratch -as supposed- in fast time. Spotless presentation. Portions are (too) small though: food and beverages.

Homemade Mediterranean food. A Hidden Gem!

By Lucinda M |

Set in a corner of a small shopping center off Mesa. A true family restaurant with a great welcome, menu, and atmosphere. The Mezze are absolutely delicious, and my husband and I have eaten a lot of them in different parts of the world. We haven't yet tried most of the menu but we will since we plan to make this a regular stop for dinner. Many takeout orders during the time we were there. Nice cabaret type mostly French music which is most pleasant. A great experience!

Good Home Style Turkish Food!

By Jay F |

We went to Turkey on a group tour in Jund and met part of our group at Troy for a reunion. The menu is limited to about a dozen items but everything is good to very good. It is all good home cooking! The Beef Iskender is my overall favorite menu item but your waiter will gladly help you decide what to order. This is a very small family run restaurant with the mother as the cook and the sons as waiters. Inexpensive! Great food and quality. Good service. Sometimes a bit slow. Allows BYOB. Highly recommended!

Amazing

By Lance S |

Amazing Better Turkish food than in Turkey. The lamb was perfectly cooked and spiced. The stuffed grape leaves were amazing. I have never had them so good.

Drive slow or you'll miss it

By nbrooks |

Really great food and service with French music in the background. Location is next to gas station but it's well worth the visit

Excellent Turkish food!

By takingtea |

Having lived in Turkey for several years, this was such a wonderful find in Austin! Such great food! Unassuming from the outside, located behind a Valero gas station, the interior will transport you to a cafe in Istanbul. Don’t skip a glass of Turkish tea or Turkish coffee after your meal!

Love this place

By PepperMarsh |

Delicious whole food at a family run restaurant. Service is good in this small restaurant, and a few Turkish grocery items are also for sale. The owner explained to me how she likes to use the red pepper paste I bought. Sometimes they have live music.

Very good discovery

By Antoine D |

I was looking on Yelp or TA for a place to eat (order to go) in the area. I arrived there 15 min before they close. When entering in the restaurant, I had a great welcome from the young guy, he was very polite during all the time I was there, that was really nice. I had the kebab kofte, sandwich version. Not too spicy Food tasted good and I will come back next time I have the chance to try the other dishes on the menu. While waiting, I was also offer to taste some chicken from the chef. They are amazing people, great service, great food.

Tasty food!

By Jen78703 |

My daughter loves Mediterranean food and I like to support family owned businesses so this was a perfect match. It's a small restaurant at the end of a tiny strip center. We had no problem parking but possibly during a rush there might be an issue. (Which applies to most restaurants in Austin these days). It's a small, sparsely decorated space with several small tables and one long one running down the center of the room. Our meals came with delicious hot Turkish tea. We shared a plate of hummus to start. It came with hot pita slices and was creamy, smooth and quite tasty. I had the grilled chicken on a salad and my daughter had the lamb on a salad. Our salads were both the mixed greens with a light tangy lemony dressing. They were perfectly lightly dressed- not drowning! My chicken was delicious. Tender and flavorful and very slightly spicy. My daughters lamb was also quite tasty when it was still hot. But when it cooled it was a little greasy- which is fairly common. It also tasted more like mutton than lamb. The service was prompt and pleasant. I really liked this little place. We had a class to catch or we would have stayed for coffee and dessert. Next time!

One of my favorite restaurants!

By meganroddie |

The food here is spectacular and I never get tired of it. Not only is the food a highlight of the restaurant, but also the atmosphere and owners who make it a welcoming environment.

Small and quaint

Good service-not great Very small restaurant but good food. Chicken k bob and rice, hummus—shrimp dinner-all good.

Real Turkish Food

By Gee2011 |

What a great find! I have been coming to this restaurant since it's open. It's being ran by a real Turkish family, who even do not speak english. Two sons who serves, know great english. Their mom and dad cooks amazingly yummy authentic homemade food. Always a pleasure to go here. Never had a bad meal and it's only getting better. They have daily specials and you never what what it's going to be. Keep up a great work!

Great Food!

I live in this neighborhood and have been wanting to try this place for a while. Wish I had tried it much sooner. The food was so good. I got a meat sampler platter and a couple of salads. One bean and one bulger wheat. Everything was so fresh and delicious. We will be back.

Wonderful, authentic... yum.

By E R L |

After a recent trip to Turkey, we missed the wonderful food (and the people). This is a family operation, originally from Antalya, a delightful seaside resort. The Turks have a tradition of fresh, wonderful tasting food, and these guys are no exception. We'll be back, frequently.

Turkish delights

By TheWanderingJoe |

We took a chance on this little restaurant based on nothing more than a blurb in a local publication. We put ourselves in the hands of a nice young man who brought us plates with a combination of meat (with rice and small salad). Also served was tea and a custard dessert. A pleasant experience all around.

Delightful food and dining experience.

By TexasTincan |

A friend came across this restaurant and mentioned it looked worth investigating. Well, he was right and I am thoroughly impressed. This is a cozy restaurant that seats about 40. This being my first visit, the young man taking our order led us through the menu with joy and alacrity. He is proud of all they serve and rightfully so. I had a plate that included the shaved beef and served like "Alexander would have enjoyed". My husband had a lovely chicken dish with a small salad. Besides being beautifully presented, both dishes were explosions of happy flavors... a real party for our mouths! A lovely light dessert (not too sweet) and hot Turkish tea were included with our meal. We were there for lunch and the place was humming with diners of all ages, most taking a step out from their business day for a pleasant diversion. We will go back with our friend and happily sample more of their menu.

Love this place

I really like this place and have visited twice now on visits from Houston. My daughter speaks a little Turkish and has been here many times which might help! Service is great and food is always fantastic. I have not had anything I don’t like.

Home cooked Turkish Food

By chemtex |

We took friends for lunch and had wraps. They are like burritos, but all tasty meat w/ lettuce. The owner suggested baklava for dessert and also brought us two vanilla/ chocolate puddings that she had made. We're glad we went early, before the lunch rush. It wasn't too crowded, but by being early, we had time to talk to the waitress about which items to order. Next time I'll try the Mezza Plate before dinner. it would also make a good lunch w/ salads and hummus w/ veggies. We want this restaurant to stay.

Authentic Turkish Food in an Unexpected Spot

By Molly R |

While you almost have to go out of your way to find this little place, it's certainly worth going out of your way! The staff here is super friendly, especially the owner who made it a point to welcome us and recommend dishes based on our tastes. His talent and passion for Turkish cuisine is evident. The restaurant itself is a small place with no frills, but the food is authentic and can't be beat! We finished the meal with some hot çay and tavuk göğsü. The portions were very generous. Great experience!

Delicious, authentic Turkish food

This little hole-in-the-wall family-run restaurant is plain, quiet, and serves the most wonderful food! Forget all the fancy foodie places. Troy is just plain tasty.

A taste of Turkey!

By The_Traveling_Harry |

My friend wanted to get some lunch so i pulled up TA and scrubbed the list of places to eat and it dawned on me that why not go for some Turkish food, the native country of my friend. Troy was the top rated Turkish place listed so i decided to give it a shot and surprise my friend who had not been here yet either. The place is as others say, no frills, and a corner spot in a small strip mall so you can be kind of hesitant but we were immediately welcomed by the Turkish owners as Turkish people always do, welcome strangers and family the same. The foods we ordered were the sarma and Iskandar. The food is house made and not pre fabricated from an outside source. The food was fresh and tasty, not much different than you'd find in Turkey. We finished the meal with çay and baklava. I'd definitely recommend this place, if anything to expand your culinary palette. It's an inexpensive spot to try out new foods for lunch or dinner. Take it from me, a Filipino! lol

Good Turkish Food, A Little Warm

By jbdavis99 |

Visited Troy on Saturday night for a Mothers Day dinner. Tasty Turkish beef and chicken dishes. Basic seating which was a little warm when we arrived, but cooled off. Helpful staff. We enjoyed desert and a Turkish coffee too. My mom liked it.

Good Mediterranean Cusine in Pleasant Family Restaurant

By fergrimes-7 |

This is a small, storefront, plain, family run restaurant with good food. The decor is plain with wooden long tables that are a bit sticky, and with metal chairs,There are a few tables for four. The limited menu is printed on plastic with photographs of some of their Turkish offerings. The backside has smaller plates in a kids menu and desserts listed. Unfortunately, the weekday night we were there, no specials that we had read about in reviews were being offered. The Mezze plate for two was more than enough for four and offered an ample sampling of their appetizers. It could have provided a bit more pita triangles to provide a base for these very good assorted dips. The nicely sized four rib lamb chops were modestly priced and served with ample rice and green salad. The shrimp dish was excellent with subtle spicing and while listed as spicy was not unappetizingly so. The sliced gyro style beef was a smaller portion also with rice and salad but very good. The baklava dessert for $3.99 is a serving of two small squares and with a very good honey sauce. We wished there had been a wider choice of their excellent Turkish dishes but perhaps they will expand in their future.

Perfect Turkish food

One of the places that will make a sweet memory for you. The food is very delicious and the place is very warm and friendly. It is a family resturant and all of them (two boys, mom and dad) were very polite and friendly. I strongly recommend it

Hidden Gem

By sazm42 |

Good Turkish food at this restaurant. My daughter lives in nearby apartments and stumbled across this place running errands. It's one of her favorite restaurants and we can say we agree. The five of us sampled some appetizers and entrees as well as Turkish tea and coffee. A nice experience. The owners have limited English knowledge as they are from Turkey but they were very sweet. Fortunately their son (?) was there to assist. I've had the opportunity to eat there twice and highly recommend this restaurant.

Great Food and Staff

By Aron W |

The first thing you'll notice is the big blow-up dragon out front. Not sure why it's there but it helps add color to the mostly drab location of the restaurant. It's tucked back in the corner of a old strip mall next to an alteration store, a Delaware Subs and a Jack Brown Cleaners which are all in front of a Valero Gas Station. Well, with all that said you'd think this review will sound drab but once you walk into Troy you will definitely be greeted by a young very happy and helpful young man. Since the place is pretty much run by young, happy, helpful young men the chances are high that you'll see one of them. Anyway, after they greet you and become your friend they will help you with the menu which is not too complex yet if you're not from Turkey or have ever had this food you might not be sure what to order. They young happy men will help you and most likely choose something for you which they have done on numerous occasion when I've been there with my family. I really like the beef dishes yet the chicken is great too and I've been told the vegetarian plates are worth getting. It's a very small seating area and you'll most likely sit with some other people if it's crowded. My family was lucky enough the last time we went there to share the table with a couple that brought ample wine which they shared with us (not the kids though). Yes, you can bring your own wine since they don't sell alcohol. I believe the dinner meals come with soup, entree and dessert along with lots of Turkish Tea which isn't all that bad. I had about 5 cups and can't remember if it kept me awake or not. Not sure about the caffeine. Trust me, you'll go and enjoy the meal but you'll want to come back because the staff is so great. They really are straight from Turkey and you'll love them. If you're the outgoing type ask them questions about the restaurant, Turkey, their experience, etc and you'll have a great friend. I believe one of them just came from Turkey a month ago and started High School around the corner from the restaurant. Great food, quirky atmosphere and fun and friendly staff. Check it out.

Amazing Mediterranean and Turkish food!

By John Cooper |

The owners are such a great guys. They are welcoming you with their warm hearts. Food is amazing especially meze plate for two, lamb chops and falafel. Try baklava probably you will not find better one. With Turkish coffee of course!

Should have been here sooner!

By Nytex1130 |

We live literally in walking distance of this restaurant, however, we hadn't been since it opened and it took a couple of friends to get us there for dinner. Somehow, I had never figured out that is was a Turkish restaurant- and what a treat! Delicious food in a family restaurant setting and economical on top of it! I had the beef doner plate which was a wonderful marinated shaved beef over rice, accompanied by a crisp multi-green salad. Husband had a lamb dish with juicy and succulent chunks of lamb. Before hand, we had an appetizer with eggplant, rice, and yogurt which I am sure was homemade. Desert, included in the price of the meal, was a tasty solid pudding on top of a thin crust, with cinnamon spelled on top. Attentive service, kept our hot tea replenished, didn't chase us off after meal was over. This place deserves a lot of business for the quality of food and service and we will be back!

Surprize!

By fww2 |

This was one the most unexpected and surprising finds of our recent restaurant outings. The service was excellent (nay even outstanding) and the food was very very good too. Don't be fooled by the smallish exterior or the non-descript look of the place (on the inside especially), the food is really great and authentic (now if only the people running the place would quit talking amongst themselves and make an effort to talk with the cusomers [some of the staff does] - then this place would be truly fantastic), as of now it is only very very good (not good enough - yet) tat I need something higher than excellent.

Home cooked heaven!

By Jay F |

We a have eaten here many times but not for a year or so, Finally got back. Oh wow! This is such wonderful home cooked food. Sad that we got out of going here. Had the appetizer "medley" for two which featured six mezes. The baba Ganoush and the carrots were exceptional.the very good cucumber and hummus were the base. The other two appetizer spreads were In the middle. The dolmades are OUTSTANDING, well at least very good - I think the best I have had. Then had the Fagiole plate which was very good and finished with a very good lemon curd dessert. All together a wonderful meal at a good price! Highly recommended!

Hidden jewel

By dpstover |

A charming, family run place with delicious food and very attentive service. We're not in Austin often, but will definitely be eating here when we do visit. The portions are perfect, the food is delicious and the family who take care of you are beyond hospitable! Can't say enough about this little treasure!

Outstanding

By waxandgold |

Had a simple lunch and I was completely blown away. This family owned and operated jewel is tucked away in a small strip mall. Parking is fine. For those who long for quality food should definitely add this to there list.
