Terrible Service, Mediocre Food

By SCalCanz |

This started out all wrong when we ordered an appetizer and the waitress said, "that will take about 15 minutes to prepare," which sounded surprising for four shrimp wrapped in bacon and a jalapeno. I said, specifically, that then we would like our main orders to be put in later so that we had time to enjoy the appetizer. Instead, someone brought my wife a taco a few minutes later. They explained that if you order the Tex-Mex platter that the taco always came out first and early. Uh, no, is doesn't--and we sent it back. Then the shrimp came out at the same time as our other main dishes. A manager came by and we explained the situation, but she just asked if we were from Austin. When we said, "No, we're from Colorado," she just walked away and did nothing to help. My beans were cold and the rice bland. Nothing stood out as very good except for the green salsa. No idea why this place is so popular. Avoid. Returned to the hotel and began writing this review right away.

Amazing Customer Service, Even Better Food

By ITravelSun |

I’ve visited twice while in town, each time the wait staff exceeded my customers service expectations. The food was fresh and delicious. I recommend the shrimp enchiladas, guacamole and Mexican Martinis.

Nothing special

By BudgetTravelerMR2 |

We have tried many Tex-Mex places throughout Texas and found Trudy's to be nothing really that special. It seems like a neat place and maybe the drinks are good, but the food was just nothing to write home about. It was bland and yet different. My wife tried the famous Stuffed Avocado and was not impressed. I tried a bite and thought to be a bite of "mushy" yuck. I had the Chicken Taco Dinner that was just average. So I can write that Trudy's has been tried, but just ok. Glad some folks love the place.

Try the Mexican Martini's

By Noodles_travel |

The food was okay for Mexican food. I had a salad. But I've had my share of great Mexican food. But what I thought was amazing is the Mexican martini I wish they had a drink out in California like that!! Limit is only two per person and that's all you need! I must if you eat here!!

Yum!

By Maddie P |

This was a very neat restaurant right next to our hotel in SoCo! Ordered an appetizer and it came out after our food. Waiter said they had some new people in the back. Other than that the service was great and food was awesome!

Enjoyable evening at Trudy's

By corinne p |

Nice evening on the patio at Trudy's South Star in Austin. I had the Stuffed Avocado Chicken Minis. There were 4 on the plate with 3 different sauces. The dish was very good! I would recommend Trudy's.

Day trip to Austin

By August0893 |

Great waiter evening of June 8. Delicious queso. Very good Mexican martini, shaken. It's a bargain! A little loud.

Always an EXCELLENT experience!

By Regan D |

I have eaten here several times and each time, the atmosphere has been relaxing and enjoyable with great drinks and a great variety of mouth-watering food. The Managers are top notch at providing an efficient, reliable service. My boyfriend and I recently ate there and unfortunately the sauce on his dish did not taste quite right. We mentioned it to out waitress, who immediately brought the manager over. The manager was friendly and professional, offering him another dish. His fajitas were literally brought out in 5-7 minutes and they were amazing! The manager wanted to make sure that we had a terrific overall experience and she succeeded! Personal recommendation: Mango Tilapia Quesadilla (in addition to the chips and salsa)

Great Mexican Food Variety

By HiscoxTom |

Had another great meal at Trudy's in Austin. This is not just heavy cheesy items, but Trudy's has a great selection of fine dishes. I particularly like the rellenos which can be stuffed with any kind of meat along with other things. Typical rellenos are only stuffed with cheese. Been there several times now and will definitely go back next trip to Austin.

Mexican Martini's

By 751sharonp |

The drinks the service everything was outstanding The fried adocado with spicy chicken and Mexican Martini you can't go wrong fajitas were great also

Great Food and service

By HiscoxTom |

Had their relleno stuffed with spicy shredded chicken and black beans refried and it was excellent. One of few places north of the border where a chile relleno is stuffed with anything other than cheese. Margerita was also very good. Recommended

Great options for visitors

By 2engineers |

Our party of 10 showed up hoping for quick seating since we wanted to see the bats come out from under the bridge in Austin. The hostess suggested moving tables together on the patio and that is what we did and sat down right away. Michael was our waiter and once he knew of our plans for the evening, he did a great job at getting our food out quickly even though there were two other large parties on either side of us. We loved seeing items on the menu that you may not find outside of Texas or maybe even other than at Trudy's. I got the pork and pineapple fajitas which was delicious. One of us got the Stuffed Avocado and said it was one of the best Mexican style dishes he's ever had. We had never heard of Migas either but the one who got that was very happy with his egg-y dish. Between the 2 mushroom quesadillas that came to the table, the spinach and mushroom was the favorite. The queso was enjoyable as well as the shrimp tacos. My own personal disappointment was that while the tortilla chips were super thin as I like them, they seemed a bit greasy that night. We had a great dinner while on vacation and would go to Trudy's if they ever expanded north in our direction.

Better than average

By Pebble_Daddy |

Stopped in here as it was close to hotel. Sat outside and the place was loud - but there were large groups. The menu was large enough and covered normal Mexican fare. The hotter salsa was very good. The fish tacos were average, the beans and rice typical. They did have a good selection of spirits. Service was good so all in all not a bad spot.

Not Mexican Food

By Shunda R |

Drinks were weak, 40 min wait; food was not appetizing at all! No one took food to go. The patio looked like a fun place to hang out, but its first come first serve. It stayed packed

Trudy's is a star every time!

By Jennifer W |

Trudy's always has great, consistent food! And it's close to home! The stuffed avocado is amazing. And if you want Mexican, you have it. Or go for the down home Texas fare. Can't lose either way!

Food was Good - Better Margarita at Home

By Dare2Live |

The service was horrible. Ignored when 3 of us walked up to hostess stand while 2 staffers talked to themselves. I don't think either one of them even said hello, just eventually asked us how many to be seated. Throughout our meal, we noticed that the staff were not that busy taking care of us or others but they sure were busy talking among themselves. The margarita was clearly from a mix and not original ingredients. I could have made a better margarita at home, even using a mix. Nasty! The food was good but because everything else sucked so much I don't believe it was worth the trip.

Good for a family dinner

By ColumbiaMDPercolate |

We met family members there for dinner and they were quite comfortable dealing with approximately 15 people ranging in age from toddlers to mid-70s. Service was excellent. Serving sizes were generous-in fact, my companion and I split an entree and were quite satisfied. Another person had two appetizers for their meal. The margaritas seemed generously sized and one of the adults appreciated their beer selection. They had some unusual (at least to me) entrees e.g., fried avacatoes.

Tex-Mex in a casual atmosphere

By Mommrs |

We were in Austin during Thanksgiving week and wanted some place where could be relaxed and casual, this was the place. We had mixed drinks that came in shakers, that you poured into your own glass, we did enjoy these. The chips and salsa hit the spot. I tried the stuffed avocado, which was more of a patty of chicken mixed with avocado and fried, then covered in a sour cream sauce, pretty good. My husband opted for carnitas taco plate, a huge plate, he could hardly finish. My daughter got crispy fried beef tacos, that looked amazing and she enjoyed them. It was a good casual place, where we were seated quickly and served by a wonderful waitress. The food, was served hot and was plentiful, interesting, but, still pretty average, especially for Austin.

Service With a smile!

By Douglas W |

The food was good. The Mexican Martini's better but the service was the stand-out here. The hostess gave us the choice of outside bar seating but we decided it was too cold and she happily found us a cozy booth. Then our server ( Ellie ) went to work to make sure we always had what we needed and knew the menu like she wrote it herself. Very Well Done Ellie ! I then watched as they had some serving issues with a large birthday party. It was like a Navy seal team going into action to recover. Fantastic to watch and to see in.thageage.ofwhatever" Fa

Great

By GatorNation |

My first visit and I loved it. The stuffed avacado was new to me but it was outstanding. Same with the Refried Borracho Beans. They were a puree and a little off-putting to look at, but they were loaded with bacon flavor and were the best refried beans I've ever had. The rice was average. The restaurant was nice, clean, and the service was excellent. Portion sizes were good and and prices were reasonable. Both red and green salsas come with the basket of chips and they were both very good. I ate at the original Chuy's the next day and I thought Trudy's was much better.

My kind of place!

By SweetestOrange |

We were passing through Austin on a Friday night and I asked for a restaurant with outdoor seating and was directed to Trudy's. It was perfect! We sat on the patio and were surprised and delighted to see that Trudy's offers non GMO corn chips and organic items. For starters we had a wonderful homemade chile con queso. I ordered the ensalada grande with fish and asked that the fish be grilled without salt, not fried; it was perfect! The portion sizes were generous and the prices ever so reasonable. If we lived closer, this would be a restaurant that I would frequent, most definitely!

Not sure why people pack this place

By Sandra Y |

Extremely long wait times on Friday night and certainly not worth it. This was recommended by the hotel. The nachos tasted liked canned beans with a little melted cheese - very bland and nothing special. The chicken enchiladas were some of the worst I have eaten in Texas, and I have lived in this state for 20 years. My husband had the fajitas, Chili's does a better job. The margaritas were weak and watery. There was only 1 white wine selection, and it tasted like wine you buy by the gallon for $5. And the price for that class of wine was quite high considering the quality. Considering the wonderful Tex-Mex food available, I would never return to this restaurant.

Late night drinks

By Heather U |

We met our niece for late night margaritas while in Austin. We did not dine here (although she ordered cheese enchiladas to go), so can't review the food, but our topshelf ritas were average. The place was very busy and the bar was full, so maybe the food is better than the drinks? We would probably give Trudy's a try for dinner next time we were in town.

Tex Mex done right

By Caleb B |

Fried avocado that was stuffed with chicken cheese and sour cream. Who came up with this I do not know but you must order it! It was even better than it sounds.

Best Tex-Mex

By George F |

This place has wonderful Tex-Mex.. Everything on the menu is great. They have the best Mexican Martini's around. No one makes them like they do! Always have great service and great food!!

yummy!!! it is a virtuous mixture between excellent service and exquisite cuisine HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

By josesolisclown |

This newly last Easter visit Austin, Tx, at the invitation of my son and daughter-in-law. . We were rowing to the River, and after eating, after a bad experience at taco more, my family members were afraid to pick a place that should put us the bitter taste in our mouth...We chose to go to Trudy's, the place has ample parking and since that arrived I knew we had made excellent choice., the person who we attended Casey (or KC), was commissioned to favour us with a Regal service, when ordering my drink I say bring me water from fruits made with natural fruit, tells me by bringing me try first if it is not to your liking solve it immediately, then asks me if he can offer us chips and salsa to start chopping... You replied Yes but that brought me extra hot sauce. Not only brought me a bowl of sauce... they were three types different from fresh salsa, freshly made, and chips just like the home made sauce...They melt in your mouth...surprisingly. Immediately followed by an appetizer-based cocktail of seafood and guacamole, then ask for a salad that goes without comment; fresh and delicious. the main dish; Red fish in a rice lining and a mixture of ingredients that taste exquisite, to finish off the last straw; Some sopapillas with taste to cinnamon warm freshly baked on a bed of ice cream...Wow! If it weren't for casey brought me the ticket to pay you would have thought I was at home... I go back to those memorable days when my mother to our food a feast.Concluding; HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE FOOD OF EXCELLENT FLAVOR AND FRESHNESS...THE FIRST SERVICE (GOING MORE FAR FROM 'MAKE THE CUSTOMER FEEL IMPORTANT') MAKE A VIRTUOUS MIXTURE THAT I'M ACTUALLY DESPERATE FOR HAVING A SPACE AND TRAVEL TO AUSTIN TO VISIT TRUDY AGAIN AND AGAIN. Believe me give it the opportunity is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED... both thumbs up of course!

Good fare

By mpd |

No bells or whistles, just good food at reasonable prices. Fajitas and cierro special both delicious. Great and friendly service. Small wine list. Plenty of parking.

How awkward

By dkrobb |

The food and drinks are good. The problem I have with it was we were put in a booth with no room and no way to adjust it. there were no tables with chairs. We were so cramped, my chest was literally resting on the table. No joke, the waiter almost set my food on my chest. We were all miserable and the waitstaff seemed to think it was amusing. I will never darken their door again.

Big Selections and Fine Mexican Food

By CarlSNewBraunfels |

My wife, son, and his wife and sons had very good lunches at Trudy's South Star. Best guacamole I've had in a restaurant. Chili con queso excellent. Big selection of salsas and enchiladas that were great -- some of the best. Compares very favorably with Chuy's, which is also excellent, but their music is too loud. But not quite so loud at Trudy's.

Sad they have gone downhill

By Soo T |

I used to love trudy's. I would go there every week (sometimes even twice a week). When they moved from lamar/cap hwy to 35.. i still followed them. But after about 2 years at the new location. I am officially disappointed. I am continually disappointed in the food quality and some of the same waitors that we recognize just seem to not care. I am forever sad becasue I dont think I will find another fish taco like the ones trudys made, but alas I feel betrayed.

Not bad - cheeky waitress

By Vicki P |

We were with some family and had a meal here. My family enjoyed their meals, I had chimichanga and found it a little bland. Happy hour cocktails were good. They included 18% tip on the bill, but then the waitress took quite a large cash tip from my husband (who is from England and clearly not used to this tipping thing and didn't think to check the bill), without thinking to tell him they had already taken a tip. I know it's everybody out for themselves, but I thought it was rude not to say anything. Other than that, service was good.

An Austin's classic

By Marzaio |

I go there 3 /4 times a year, usually 'cause I want one of their fantastic Mexican Martini. I also enjoy equally to seat inside and outside. I consider this place a classic in Austin for casual Tex-Mex cuisine. TV screens are everywhere, and makes it a good spot to watch a football game. Last time I had carnitas tacos: the meat was absolutely fantastic with the pork seasoned in the beer, but the portion was surely not Texas size! My wife likes it too for all the vegetarian options, expecially the veggie flautas and migas.

Mexican Martini's , Yes Please !

By travelbrilliantly81 |

Best Chilaquilles to cure the aftermath of late nights, a good happy hour to start the day after work & the best Mexican Martini's to top it all off!!! Easy to get in & out of, patio outside is always happening & the service is friendly & consistent ! Highly recommend stopping in at any time of the day...

Good!

By DubbysMom2 |

Enjoyed the food and the margaritas. Service was great. Really enjoyed the stuffed soapillas (sp?). Texas nacho were also great.

Good food & Atmosphere

By alief86 |

Had the stuffed Avacado. It was very good, as was the service. I would recommend it for business and family.

Good chips and salsa

By Jeff G |

Beef fajitas were good, however portion was quite small, and there was some fat. Spinach enchiladas were very good. Rice was spicy. Charro beans good but tiny portion. Chips and salsa excellent. Nice atmosphere.

Very Average

By Metaksams |

We went there with a group of 8 and was pretty disappointed. It would have gotten a 2 however the service was fabulous. I literally had to get a flash light to see the menu and that was with my glasses. I went to open the blind and there was a wall behind it. Good thing is I now know where to find my flashlight on my phone cuz everyone needed one to see the menu. I ordered a taco salad with avocado and the plate came out with so much lettuce on it, it was falling off the plate. Quite a few bites I took, the fajita meat was burnt and there was very limited meat on the plate. For the most part it was lettuce. The food I would score a 2. I'm trying to figure out how in the world this place got 4 & 5's. I know it's a local kids hang out and they love it but as a 60 yo that is use to eating really good Mexican food, this just didn't cut it. It wasn't noisy but the low light and food would have both been a 2 but I just can't deny the wonderful service. They didn't have a 2.5 so a 3 is a little high. Was great company but wont' go back when in town next time.

Excellent Tex Mex

By Rockdoc7 |

The food is very good We had chicken and beef fajitas as well as pork. All was good and the service was excellent

It used to be good, but this location was not

By surfinginflorida |

I was really looking forward to great Texas Mexican food but this just really fell flat. On the plus side, the salsas were all very good. The margaritas were not -- WAY too much sour (and we ordered premium). The stuffed avocado only tasted of fried breading not avocado. The crunchy taco meat was tasty, but the shell was stale. The beef fajitas were tough and tasteless. Won't return -- everyone in our group of five were disappointed.

Yummy Tex-Mex!

By Nhmejia |

Our server (Vince) was awesome! He was very attentive and kept us laughing. The food was delicious! My mom and I were visiting and we would definitely try it again. Love the chips and salsa. Even the cheese dip was delicious! My only complaint would be the guac had way too much salt...but that's minor to me. Overall we had a great experience. We loved the atmosphere.

Loved the Mexican Martini!

By Cathie Bright Moore |

Not my favorite TexMex, but it was a fun restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. There were a lot of people there enjoying food and drink and it appears to be fairly popular. Our server was excellent and took his time to answer our questions and made sure we were comfortable with our selections. You must try the Mexican Martini - my new favorite!

Disappointing

By HouMSW |

Trudy's somehow takes a quirky vibe and turns it into a blah chain. The food was boring, at best. My husband's hash browns were a rubberized mass, the result of frying still-frozen pre-fab potatoes. Soup was okay, but lukewarm and tasting mostly of salt. Service wa decent except for being rushed when the place wasn't full. Lots of better choices in Austin.

WOW

By txtfa001 |

I have gone to both of th other Trudeau’s and liked them so we were in the south part of Austin and gave this a try. We have been out of the country for a year and there were a lot of changes to the menu. I ordered a mixed plate that was wonderful. Actually, I think I have three meals worth of food. It included a huge piece of jalapeño sausage which I only tasted because I was already full from two fajitas and a cheese enchilada. I took the rest of the fajitas and the sausage home. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I noticed on a review that someone was unhappy with the booths being two tight. None of us experienced that and it seemed like there was plenty of room so I didn’t really think that was a fair complaint. They do have tables and chairs although you might have to wait for one. The wait staff was excellent and our food came out quickly so we had no complaints.

"Good" for a drink and some food

By terithedramaqueen |

First off, remember it's silly to eat here on a Friday and Saturday night and NOT have a long wait! It's very normal to have a 40 minute+ wait during peak hours and the bar, through pretty big, is a first come, first served seating area, so it's possible to be waiting around awhile and being a vulture looking for any table about to get up and leave. There's really no place to "stand around" and drink either. The mexican martini is the most popular drink and they'll only serve you 2 before you're cut off from all other alcohol. They're pretty strong. They have a full bar and full service in the bar area for food too. Overall, a nice place to go. Not a first date type - too loud. There are tvs in the bar area to watch a game. This is probably a better place to go during the weekend daytime. Not a singles joint, but there were plenty of people at the bar alone. But it's loud, lots of people right next to you. The food is fine, but nothing I crave for when I go. Staff has always been pretty nice. Metal chairs on the bar patio are not the most comfortable, but you can expect that. So, I rank this place "good", not "great", but it's probably a little better than average overall.

Super Salsa and Great Margaritas Make an Amazing Duo

By rtmidland |

Met my sister, Aunt Cookie, here for a late lunch. We happened in on "happy hour" which started at 2pm. We ate plenty of chips and green and red salsa before ordering. We always top our margaritas off with a floater of Disarono to kick it up a notch! Relish. She had great enchilada and I had the grilled fish tacos. The only reason I'm giving a 4 star is they fish and tacos were a little dry. The Charro beans were amazing and he even gave us a sample of the 'refried' charro beans which were creamy and perfectly spiced. We hung out for several hours total and the staff was great. Even the manager checked in on us! Oh and we were celebrating Aunt Cookie's birthday so they treated her/us with a dessert, the praline brownie which might have been the best ever; ice cream and all. We will for sure be meeting there again as it is half way between where each of us lives. We ate outside even at 2-4pm and did not ever get hot. The have covered open air seating with fans. There was even a bar where you can sit outside. I don't know their total hours of operation but I suspect they are open till late. They are right off So I35 at the Stasney exit by the movie theater. The menu was large with separate drink and food menus. I'm pretty sure you can find something delicious there to eat. Since we were headed out into 4pm Austin traffic they gave us a glass of ice water to go! Trudy my dear you rock!

Excellent Tex Mex

By AzCat225 |

This became one of my go-to places while on a long term assignment in Austin. First time I went was simply because it was convenient to the hotel I was staying in; every time thereafter was because the food was excellent and the bartenders were always friendly and attentive. Place seemed to always be crowded so I always sat the the bar to avoid the wait. You get full menu there so if you're in a hurry, or just don't want to wait, do the same. Shrimp chipotle cream enchiladas were my favorite; tinga verdes cream enchiladas were a close second. Excellent salsas, good chips. And the clincher, a nice variety of beers on tap. I am normally a Mexican food snob (Tex Mex is usually low on my list---ground beef? really?)---but Trudy's made me a semi-convert.

Worth a trip, but...

By Aurora_Guy |

On a Sunday night I wanted some Tex-Mex, and Trudy's was nearby. It was a quick drive from my hotel, and I just had to be there. The Trip Advisor reviews were really good. In the end, I enjoyed the experience, but it was a bit rough round the edges. When I entered, the classic rock blasted my brain. Being slightly hearing impaired, I asked whether inside or outside was quieter. My seat inside was still noisy, but comfortable. The atmosphere is very festive, and the colors pop. Locals swamped the bar with basketball on the screens. This could be an oasis for a traveler or an anchor for nearby residents. Happy hour is exceptional: 2-7 Monday through Friday. Check for specials. Trudy's is a long-time Austin establishment with several properties around town. For such longevity, the menu explains with some solid, basic dishes. That said, I ordered the Al Pastor Caliente enchiladas, which were vastly under-flavored. I sampled the verdes, which were very flavorful. I am honestly sure other dishes are just as delightful, but mine was a disappointment.

Trudy's

By LFlynn2014 |

Recommended by the hotel, Trudy's was close enough to walk. The food was Mexican and very good. Good selection and helpful wait staff.

Food is good...management not so good

By yvnet |

Went in a group of 7 girls for a bachelorette dinner. The chips and salsa are great!! Loved the green salsa! Our waiter was excellent. I ordered the Vegetarian enchiladas which has mushroom and spinach. The spinach could have been cooked a little more. The suiza sauce on top of the enchiladas was great tasting! The rice is not your typical mexican style, its more of a rice pilaf. THe spicy black beans were also great tasting! The only bad thing I can say about is our experience is this........ 3 of the girls ordered the Mexican Martini's. the bride looked down at her glass and there was a nickle sized hole w/a crack on her glass.Like really..how could the bartendar not see that!! She was lucky she saw it before she took a drink out of it. We informed the waiter and he took our drink. The manager then came over and said he apologized and he would replace the drink. At the end of night when we got our bill, i asked why didnt they take off the martini that had a hole in the glass. THe manager said he replaced it and still going to charge us...To me that is bad customer service, all resturaunts i have been if there has been anything wrong they automatically comp the drink and bring you a new one...but oh well...Trudy's doesnt believe in that motto..

Great place for eats anb\d fun

By Randy P |

We picked this place because it was close to the hotel and recommended by the front desk. We were not disappointed. From the crowd it is obviously a very popular place and the menu and drink selections is obviously why. While they seem to specialize in bar-b-que they also have a nice variety of other menu items. We went for the BBQ and were not disappointed. We would definitely go back if back in Austin.

Great and fun!

By 916beverlyf |

We eat here fairly often. The food is great, service is super and drinks are good! Try their shaker margarita!

Good food!

By ASmith9212 |

Good tex-mex food! The enchiladas are pretty good as well as the especial queso! My husband and I sat outside on a nice day this past weekend and we had a good time.

Good atmosphere, great Tex Mex

By Brandon E |

We went and enjoyed our time on the patio. Although it is designated as smoking, there were few lighting up. Got the stuffed avocado and was not disappointed. Helpful staff. Apparently powerful Mexican martinis

One of my favorite Restaurants on the Planet

By nettielou07 |

Whenever I go home to visit my family in Texas I have to go to Trudy's while I am down. I absolutely love the Cheese enchiladas with Chipotle sauce, it is a flavorful spiciness that just doesn't exist in New England where I live now. I also really like the Frozen Sangria Margarita, for me it is a must have. The atmosphere of the place is also very modern and cool, which I find enjoyable.

so so tex mex and barbeque

By Ron C |

ate there Monday night. chips and cheese dip was okay but meager basket of chips and small amounts of salsa. the pulled barbeque was not pork and not too beefy either and not spicy either. the chicken with green peppers were bland at best.

Horrible Experience

By Jennifer G |

Although the food was average, the poicies of the restuarant were horrible. I don't eat much and asked for an item A-la-carte. I was told that it was policy that they did not serve what I asked for a-la-carte so I needed to order something else. When the bill came, we asked for separate checks. Once again, we were told it was "policy" for better customer service that they do NOT split checks. When we asked to speak to a manager, we recieved a manager in training that told us he would check with another manager on why this was policy and get back to us. We waited and never saw him again. We ended up all putting different amounts on different cards. It would have been easier for the waiter to split the check! The food is okay and even though the Mexican Martini was fabulous, I will never go to the restuarant again. The lack of customer service and the way we were rudely told of their "policies" was enough to deter me from ever going back. Terrible, Terrible customer service!

Very good tex mex

By VeggiegirlMarlow |

Trudys tex mex is a cut above most others, serving reasonably priced, tasty food. I had the chicken stuffed avocado which was unusual and delicious. The service was efficient and friendly without bring over powering. I would definitely reccomend this restaurant.

Amazing TexMex...

By PiratewannaB |

Trudy's is an Austin staple; and now the South location with it's huge palapa covered patio is worthy to get a five star review from me. Food is plentiful, happy hours are SO worth it, staff is super happy and friendly, and the drinks are strong! Love, love, love this place! Get your butt here- cause it's always five o'clock at Trudy's!

Great food

Lunch/Dinner at an Austin Staple

By DaydreanNation |

Been to Trudys a number of times, but first time at this location and didn't disappoint. Wife got the chicken fajitas, and great as always, while I got their specialty dish the Cholula Honey Chicken, hand breaded chicken covered with a distinctly sweet, yet spicy honey sauce. To me, this dish is so distinct and original, it's a one of a kind must try and every location makes it perfectly every time. The drinks are always top notch and the atmosphere is always buzzing with an Austin vibe regardless of the time of day. A+++

Good food and service.

By wvlivingston |

The atmosphere of this location is not as unique as the original location in the Hyde Park area (one of my favorites when I lived in the area). Went to the south location because visiting a son in south Austin. Food, however, was as good as the original location.

Night out with friends

By punkinbug2001 |

We LOVE Trudys, especially the fried avocado with Tinga, accompanied by the Star of Texas Martini! Service is spot on and they have amazing guacamole!

Tasty

By Jim Mag |

Enjoyable meal. Good, cold beer. Salsas were good as were the chips. It's a chain, so the authenticity suffers a bit, but still pretty solid Mexican food. Had some interesting offerings on the menu and I was pleased with the meal.

Food was good. Service was horrible.

By MaizeRage |

Food was ok, standard Mexican. Service was horrible! Never saw our waiter, didn't get water or soft drink we ordered, didn't get queso we ordered. Recieved flour tortillas twice, but we ordered corn tortillas. Probably will not go back.

Not shabby

This place was a recommendation from a local hotel. The people were very nice and service was better than expected. The taxi driver on the way over said to try the Hatch Green Enchiladas. You can get them mild or hot. Hot it was. Meal was serviced timely and the food was good. I would go back again and again. Austin is luck to have a place like this.

Used to be better

By Kristi R |

Been eating here for years. The queso used to be my favorite and it just wasn’t good. Fajitas were great! Service at the bar on Cinco de Mayo was ok but could be better.

Strawberry Margarita wow

By Rick186411 |

Strawberry never tasted so smooth and cold with a sugar rim ! Sensational The vegetable fajitas were huge (we shared) the food was amazing and fresh . Service was prompt and friendly .

Good food, great drinks

By Claudia A |

Trudy's is a great Mexican restaurant with good service, reasonably priced food and terrific drinks. We went on a Saturday night when strawberry margaritas were the special. We each had one and thoroughly enjoyed them. I highly recommend the broach beans which are a little spice but very flavorful.

Great Breakfast Tacos served until afternoon

By allherfaces |

One taco was enough and you can custom order yours. Second time I went there, though, and orders same thing, they messed up the order. However, they apologized, fixed it, and comped me my taco.

Recent Trip

By bellyfull-jlo |

Now don't get me wrong I love Trudy's! I go all the time to have drinks with friends after a stressful day at work. However, this past time I went the day after my birthday because I am a college student and have evening classes and wasn't able to go on the exact day. Normally this isn't a problem with the restaurant and you get a birthday margarita. For some reason the waitress wouldn't let me have mine because it was a belated birthday...by one day? I thought it was ridiculous and am disappointed in the customer service aspect. Granted I did sit out on the patio where service is lacking compared to the inside of the restaurant anyways. I'm just disappointed Trudy's.

Stuffed avocados are amazing!

By Lisa M |

Date night for the two of us. Sangria swirl margaritas were good. Stuffed avocados were amazing!!! Great service and reasonable price.

All I expected and more

Excellent Service & Food

By bkminter |

My husband and I were on our way to Fredericksburg but along the way stopped in Austin for the night. We went to Gruene for the day and on the way back to our hotel, stopped for dinner. It was New Year's Eve and we really thought everything would be too crowded, but we saw Trudy's and stopped in. The name threw us off a little, it doesn't sound like your traditional Mexican food restaurant, so we were a little apprehensive. There was a wait, but only about half an hour, not bad for New Year's Eve 8 pm ish. The service was excellent and the food couldn't have been better. I love Mexican food and this is probably the best I've ever had. The waiter asked us if we had been there before and we told him no. He asked how we had come to stop there and I told him I'd found a review online, to which he replied that he was very happy about that. It seems the restaurant doesn't "waste" their money on advertisements, they are strictly word of mouth. A few minutes later the manager came to speak with us; the waiter had told him it was our first time there. He gave us a free appetizer and welcomed us to the restaurant. He came back a couple of times to check on us and make sure we were happy with our meal. We were extremely pleased with everything about the restaurant and have recommended it.

Fun at Trudy's

By Departure20003347748 |

Kayla is the best bartender! We had so much fun. She kept us laughing. We lacked for nothing. Wish all bartenders were this fun.

Mexican Martini

By girlzjustwant2 |

a must when you are in Austin! opt for the good tequila also. You won't regret that in the morning. But you can only have 2 and trust me you will not need more :) A good ol happy time. Also their chicken breast is awesome and cilantro dressing :)

good everything

By martyn h |

well advised to go when in Austin, food staff atmosphere second to none, very clean place and the staff are very polite and observant, service is very quick, but the staff will slow it down if you prefer, when the food comes out of the kitchen, wow.

Just another chain store

By bullwinkle63 |

A Saturday lunch. The frozen margaritas were poor. Service was slow and I think the server just walked in off the street. Food was ok, not bad but not great.

Nice Choice

By Jelyka |

A good Tex/Mex eatery. There are numerous menu choices from which to choose. I had the chicken chimi and was informed by the courteous, friendly bartender, cilantro is used freely. That's ok with me. The food arrived quickly and was hot. Prices are reasonable. If ever in the area, I would visit again.

Awesome restaurant.

By Mary G |

This place has such an awesome atmosphere. The food was delicious and the drink was reasonably priced and strong. I ordered a fried avacado and it was a little spicy, so beware if you do not like spicy. The portion was decent. The drink special that night was a coconut mojito jug that was very good. Highly recommend to anyone visiting or living in the area.

Fried avocado is a must!

By Keith T |

We only went here for the fried avocado. Hey t did not disappoint. Wasn’t sure what to expect but it exceeded our expectations. Filled with chicken and cheese and covered with a light white sauce. Wow. And the avocado salsa they had was legit.

Austin Thanksgiving

Great food exceptional service. Good location and some unusual dishes you must try. We had a large party and our waiter went out of his way to serve us quickly and courteously

First time

By Dave J |

Service was good and margaritas were a good value. Food was average. Enchiladas were ok, rice was terrible. Would not go back

Good food after a long day

By BeenThereFromPTY |

Enjoy some yummy Tex Mex in your visit to Austin. Server suggestions were right on the mark. Stuffed Sopapillas for an appetizer and Cholula Honey Chicken for the main course. Very generous portions and couldn't finish it.

Homemade corn tortilla!!

By LShafer |

Our server Todd was very friendly and helpful with suggestions from the menu. I loved the homemade corn tortilla. There were several choices for homemade enchilada sauces. Yummy!

TEX MEX - OFF tonight - Stale GREASY Chips

By BJL83 |

Very Disappointing tonight. Chips should NOT have been served. They were stale and greasy. We asked for new ones, we got them...same thing! UGH! Food came and we had cold rice and beans. Fish tacos were so-so, no slaw or dressing on them...only fish and tortilla. I have had much better than this several times before. These were NOT good. Service wasn't up to par tonight. Wait staff didn't understand policy for celebrating birthdays. You get nothing unless it is you exact birthdate. Policies are policies, but staff should know this and not set expectations to customers. In hindsight, we should have talked to management about the chips. Best thing for us tonight was queso! I "may" go again, but it will be a while. As a suggestion to the restaurant....start serving sweet tea - after all this is TEXAS.

Eh...

By Erian G |

Not impressed. The food was just ok. The wait after ordering what seemed to be pretty simple orders was too long. In addition to this the special dietary restriction we asked for were not fulfilled. We were told when we ordered that our request would be an additional charge because of how it was to be entered in the system. Ok...ask for less ingredients...charge more and then don't give the customer what they ordered. Doesn't make much sense to me.

This food, & drinks at this restaurant were awesome. Very generous portions and the Margaritas were very good & they don't skimp on the Tequilia. !!!!

greatplace

By martyn h |

Went to Trudys every other day for a month on my second trip to Austin Texas, from England, and found the staff, and the food was fantastic.

Delicious

By Lindsey R |

The food was delicious. I ordered the fish tacos and I was not disappointed. The fish had a crunchy outside and such great flavor. My husband ordered the shrimp tacos and he thought they were delicious also. We went to dinner with our friends and they both ordered the stuffed avocado (one had veggie and the other had chicken). They loved them. We had two children with us and they also enjoyed their meals. The waitress was great. We will be returning here as often as possible.

Great food and drinks

By sfcengland |

Wait was 30 minutes inside. Went to the patio and immediately found a seat. Ordered the stuffed avocado which the split down the middle and then fry. Also ordered the enchiladas which were very good.

Good spot for dinner, drinks or both.

By homeowner E |

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening out at Trudy's. We started with their famous house margaritas which was the drink special of the day. However, I opted for a swirl when it came time to re-order and it was absolutely delicious (I'm not a big margarita fan). I ordered the stuffed avocado and let me tell you, it rocked my world! it was impossible to finish it all but I certainly tried. The place was busy and the few hiccups in service seem to come from the fact that our waitress was still being trained. Since we had plenty of chips, salsa and good drinks to keep us happy, it wasn't a problem. We'll definitely be back.

Decent food and Service

By Nailcutter |

Came here for dinner. Received cold chips and salsa. Salsa was pretty good. Menu was mostly Tex Mex. the smoked chicken tacos was one the few things I liked on the menu as I did not want anything huge. Tacos were a bit dry but pretty good. Came with beans and rice. The other person got quesadillas and he did not like them as too much breading and not enough filling. The prices were reasonable for this type of restaurant.

Spicy goodness

By M Camille R |

If you don't like or have a tolerance for even slightly spicy food, you will have a hard time finding something to eat here. The pork is amazing on any dish it's served on. They are popular for their fried avocado and margaritas.

never disappointed

By jim d |

Usually go for lunch here every Sunday..great tex mex. Love the queso especial and enchiladas. Blue moon is served ice cold with a orange slice.

Trudy's

By Michael C |

Good enchiladas and overall menu. One of the first places to serve Mexican martinis. Can be crowded on weekends.

Great Tex-Mex

By unpaintedrose |

I could eat here all the time! Excellent tex-mex. We all got the stuffed avocado. Trudy's is known for their Mexican Martini and it was HUGE! I wish we lived closer so I could try some of the other dishes.

Typical tex-mex

By Martha B |

Good drinks, reasonable price, good food, good service...nothing to rave about though. Recommended by the hotel staff...typical tex-mex.

Trudy's is always fun

By Bill S |

The food was wonderful and the staff was very attentive. Fairly easy to get to with plenty of parking and seating available for diners.

Good, but crowded bar scene

By Joel M |

It is a nice bar. Good place for friends, couples and friends who want to be couples. Drinks are well made. Better food than you would expect from a bar. Actually, it is restaurant style food. Good place to end the week.

Always good food and service

By David P |

When near Southside of Austin, this is our go-to for Mex-Tex. Joshua was excellent giving recommendations and kept an eye on our needs without being obtrusive. The staff works together as we interacted with 3 others clearing plates, delivering food if need be, etc. Nice to get hot food when it's ready! The wife's House frozen Margarita was spot on (plus only $2 during set hours). She had tacos al pastor with Chayote grilled squash--excellent, as was my shrimp quesadilla with a mango salsa cooked inside. Just wish this small chain would venture to the NE side of San Antonio!

Quality Mexican Food

By JDSoui |

The salsa and street tacos are worth the visit. The blend of spices in the Adobada tacos (pineapple) and the salsa (cilantro and Serrano peppers) brought memories of street tacos in Mexico. Quality Mexican food.

Good eats!

By MSRDLD |

We went here on a Saturday evening and sat outside. Our waiter was very attentive and we had very good service. We both were very happy with our entrees and our drinks. Our portions were large. A good place to go

Great Tex Mex

By Rockdoc7 |

Had a group of six people and everyone enjoyed the food, WE had Beef Fajitas, Migas, Chile Elleneo and Fried stuffed avocado which was fabulous. Top Shelf Margaritas are awesome Service was great

Amazing Breakfast

By travelfreak903 |

Our group went and ordered Eggs Benedict and it was the best I have ever had. With a Mexican twist on the traditional eggs benedict, I am absolutely speechless with how good it is. The atmosphere is amazing and the menu had a lot of different options!

Great food, great service

By TexasGoldens |

We went for a late lunch/early dinner on a Saturday. It was surprisingly busy. Staff were friendly, our order was taken quickly and the meal came in a reasonable time. The selection was pretty good. There were several meat free options. We ordered the vegetable fajitas. They were delicious. I had the corn tortillas and my husband had flour. The corn tortillas ( and I am guessing the flour tortillas as well) are made in house. We couldn't eat it all and when we got us a to go box, the waiter brought us extra corn tortillas to take home.

Great Tex-Mex

By CyberJoya |

If you like spicy... the guac was great, our food was served hot and the portions were generous. The flavors were good, but everything was sprinkled with cayenne which created an overwhelming burn as dinner went on. However, that didn't stop me from eating most of my stuffed avocado! So delish!

Special Mexican Food Restaurant

By highrez |

Wonderful food and margaritas. Wait staff was very attentive and helpful. Appetizers are easily large enough for two people. Resonable prices. We loved the atmosphere and location. Will be back

Sunday Brunch

By TheGuys2006 |

So I hate at Trudy's twice while I was in Austin. Once, for dinner and I had the Chicken Fajita Queso Enchiladas. They were to die for! We also had the queso especial with tinga. I have never had queso with guacamole and brisket in it but oh man was it good. It was so good we ordered it again for Breakfast on Sunday morning. You have to go to Trudy's for Sunday Brunch and get the Migas! You will not regret it!

Average Tex Mex

By fldave |

Really not much to say here as not a single one in my party thought enough of their food that we'd ever want to visit it again. My dish(stuffed avocado) was rated one pepper(low heat) but was too hot and had to be redone. The others in my party said the meat was bland and tasted like it came from a can. Wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

Great Breakfast destination

By Doug M |

This should be a must do for a Tex Mex breakfast- great flavors, huge portions, solid value! Try the Migas for sure and the have 3 choices of beans - all winners! We'll be back, perhaps we'll see you there.

Always a good time with great food

By Chris B |

Easily one of my favorite restaurants in all of Austin, especially this little location. It's relatively new (maybe less than 5 years old). The menu hasn't changed much in that time, and really, there is no reason it should. Eclectic staff and a VERY relaxed atmosphere. Divine bruch choices (creme brulee French toast?), and the lunch/dinner menu isn't all Tex-Mex (you should try the chicken sandwich - with or without the green chiles. It's HUGE, but, my oh my...) The bar is well stocked (One of the few places that can make a great Old Fashioned), and the outside covered patio/bar is great when the weather is agreeable. My ONLY complaint is that they will not serve breakfast (other than migas) on the patio. No idea what that's all about, but whatever. This place gets VERY busy on Friday and Saturday nights, especially starting around 6:30pm. Seems like most of the crowd is dressed up and headed for downtown Austin after they have dinner here, so great people watching. Enjoy!

A Great Texan Experience

By Stacy L |

Not only does Trudy's have the full range of expected and delicious Mexican fare from fajitas to chimichangas to enchiladas to burritos they also have some traditional Texan comfort foods like chicken fried steak and fried chicken. In a nod to the healthy diet of many Austinites they also include multiple vegetarian options. Their side dishes include a wide array of choices of which my favorite is the street corn. Many Texans debate their favorite restaurant for chicken fried steak and hands down, Trudy's is mine. They have a different happy hour drink almost every day of the week including their famous Mexican Martini. Recently I had their sangria margarita and all I can say is ooh la la! A word of warning though, unlike many restaurants that are 'light' on their alcohol content Trudy's gives you the full shot so be warned. This restaurant is one of my favorites to take friends who have never visited Texas. Give Trudy's a try, you won't regret it. They even serve breakfast!

Loved it so much....

By Irene R |

I was invited to Trudy's for a friends birthday dinner and loved it so much I invited a friend to dinner there the very next evening. I love the happy hour and the outdoor dining area. Overall the food service and ambiance are excellent.

Not quite the same, but still good...

By Sherida H |

I started eating at Trudy's South Star when it was still located on S. Lamar. I was a faithful customer after the move further south up until I moved from Austin. As much as things have changed in Austin, Trudy's has managed to stay more or less the same. The drinks are still spot on and some of the best I've ever had. My preferred drink is the Cuban Martini with Bacardi Razz. I generally get the Ciro's Special, but went with the mini stuffed sopapillas this visit. The food was fairly greasy and the chips lacked salt. The queso and salsa was just as amazing as ever. My biggest complaint is that it was an absolutely beautiful day and the patio was not open. Overall, it isn't quite the same as it was ten years ago, but it was still worth a visit and I will likely make many more when I'm in town.

Great food

By Saurin |

I used to come here about weekly in 2013 when I used to work in Austin. Was visiting Austin and decided to go back and it was worth it. This place is still as good as used to be. Their chips and salsa is as addictive as it used to be. You just can't stop. And they still have 4 or 5 dollars margaritas on Tuesday(I think, forgot the day I went) and not watered down at all. If you are vegetarian, order their veggie stuffed Avacado. It's amazing. Your I'll not regret it. Make sure to ask which beans are vegetarian as they have about 3 types of them. Will definitely go back when I come back to Austin.

Great tex mex

By Mikey88 |

I can't say I've tried a lot of tex mex but I know good food and this food was good. The tinga verdes (relleno) was very good indeed, the blackened shrimp tacos and fajitas also went down well, heavy on the celantro. Service from Travis was as good as it gets to make a good dining experience.

Cant leave Austin w/out eating at TRUDY's

By Patricia M |

Love it! Tinga Beef Nachos/Texas Star Nachos... N Stuffed Avocados. Try it - you wont regret it! Great everytime. Try to sit outside if you can and order a few differenr items n share!!!!

Solid Texmex

By Jhaggard |

quite good. I was on a business trip and enjoyed a quality relaxing meal. Trudy's has make my contact list for future trips.

Underwhelmed

By OldGuyWanderz |

Wait staff didn't know the menu. Waitress suggested beer choices, but didn't understand what those were (i.e., amber ale, heffeweissen, etc.). Dinner was likewise underwhelming given the hype. Maybe it was an off night.

Walked out

By RodgerMJones50 |

I never thought I’d be the reviewer to complain about rude, indifferent, distracted, socially inept staff. Maybe our barmaid had boyfriend troubles. I could guess why. All we wanted was an afternoon IPA. We felt like parents who just asked their surly teenager to clean her room. Of course we walked out.

After Capital 10K meal

By Rick-Rozzi |

Came up from San Antonio to run the Capital 10K and wanted a meal before heading back home. One of our friend who comes up to Austin a lot , recommended this place. Wanted to sit at the outdoor section as it looked great, but everyone else thought the same. We are inside. Great service from our waiter, took our drink order, filled us up with chips and salsa, then we ordered avocado dip.next we ordered lunch/breakfast. Waiter did well keeping drinks filled, bringing extra chips and cleaning plates. Meal came out with just one error and although we were in no hurry and could wait for one meal to be corrected, it was nice that the manager came out apologize and rushed the order. The actual cost of meal we thought was very reasonable

Seriously, what happened to this place?

By Adrian S |

I used to come here for the Mexican Martinis and the Tinga tacos...those days are long gone. I haven't visited this location in a while, and as I left this evening, I wondered to myself "what the hell happened to this place"? I ordered the Tinga tacos and they were dry and bland (think left out brisket in BBQ sauce. My wife ordered the Southern Style Chicken, and it was overcooked to the point where slicing the portion resulted in a gummy mess on the knife. She barely ate it and I don't blame here, I tried it and it was pretty nasty. Our waitress really didn't seem to be around a whole lot (three times in the entire dinner), and given our food, I can see why. I also found it extremely rude that the manager, Sheldon, went around to EVERY table in the vicinity to introduce himself by name and ask how the meal was - he skipped our table not once or twice, but SEVEN times. I did notice that he made it a point to pop in and check with the tables with a few ladies sitting and enjoying drinks, and even the ones with a family. He walked right by us and kept on walking, making it perfectly clear that he had ZERO interest in asking my wife and I how things were. Our waitress disappeared for 15 minutes after clearing the table and still managed to get lost running our tab. We paid and left and will not be back.

Fathers day

By Roberto R |

Visiting my son for father's day, we stop to eat at Trudy's. The food was really good, the shrimp diablo was delicious but the Mexican martinis were great, never had them before, definitely having them when I go back to visit my son.

satisfied my Tex-Mex craving

By Kristin S |

Within an hour of landing in Austin, our group was seated at Trudy's. I was the only one who had had Tex Mex before. The atmosphere is not great but the food is amazing and made up for the first impression. Every single thing we ordered was delicious. I got a bowl of tortilla soup and it might be the best I've ever had. Truly homemade.

Decent Tex-Mex on south side

By Jim D |

Trudy's South has decent Tex-Mex food. The meat is already seasoned for all entrees and is a bit spicy. Not great for all tastes. Menu offers only a sampling of Non-Mexican dishes. Service is decent but very slow. Even at 50% occupancy, they are understaffed. Doubtful if would return.

My favorite Trudy's, and the best Tex Mex around

By Paniola |

I have been to four of Trudy's locations and I always have the best experience at this one. I also like the Original Trudy's Texas Star, but Trudy's South Star is my fave. It's a much bigger room, a bigger bar and a different crowd. The clientele and the servers are a little more mature here, than the University location. I have never had a bad meal at Trudy's and I never get tired of it. Some dishes that I loved were taken off the menu, but my all time favorite is their signature Stuffed Avocado. I also love their chile rellenos because they are breaded. I am not a fan of the traditional egg batter that many restaurants make their rellenos with. I like mine slightly crispy and Trudy's is one of the few places in Austin that make them this way. The drinks are also great. I love the frozen banana margarita and the blackberry margarita, both made with real puree. Nothing fake here. The juices are also fresh squeezed. The prices are so reasonable and they give you huge portions of the most delicious Tex Mex. I could eat eat here all the time, and I do!

Wonderful Tex mex food.

By arleneb5900 |

I have frequented this restaurant many times. I love the enchiladas and the southwestern eggrolls. They provide a wide selection of tex mex entrees on their menu. The wait staff was great and very friendly and attentive. It is a family friendly place , also for business clients from out of town and for couples. A great atmosphere. Thank you for a great dining experience.

Lunch w the hubby

By Kimster14 |

The food is delicious. Brunch during the week for lunch is perfection. The service was great too! Plenty of chips and iced tea for me.

Alright overall.

By Langehanna |

As mentioned above the food was pretty good overall. Went on a Sunday night and service was slow. Would go again but only with a large group to hang out... Not for the food.

Worth the trip

By HoggLife1 |

Bartender Mark was in total control by making our visit worth it. Good drink recommendations. Chips and salsa was good giving us a red, green and avocado dips. We order the the stuff avocado and cholulo honey chicken. Good portion and taste makes us wanna come back Thabks

Great food

By TX_Adventure_Girl |

Love the Monday Margarita Martinis. The food is great, but did not care for the cheesecake flan. The migas are incredible and we loved sitting on the patio.

Great Patio! Food? Meh.....

By 223vincec |

Beautiful winter Saturday and looking for a patio spot to have a drink. Trudys nails it. Nice heaters to take the morning chill off and great drinks and craft beer. Food is just ok but not bad when you can hang on the beautiful patio.

Good service, good food, upbeat atmosphere

By Tnoble0 |

Very busy on Friday night. The place is nice, clean, has upbeat music, and many TVs which show sports. Decent food. Stuffed avocados are pretty good.

Happy Hour

By Loni25 |

Trudy’s is one of my favorite places in Austin!! (I have a lot😉) There drink specials are cheap and also add there nacho cheese with beef for a nice way to end a work day.

Just for locals

By IndySevenSeas |

I love this place because it always brings good memories. But, it is quite mediocre overall. The happy hour is good, chips are usually warm and the salsa is tasty. I love the migas but I have to admit, this place is just nice if you are with friends having a great time. Not a destination or a food experience, just a gathering place for a sunny Texas day.

Great martinis. Decent food

By Debthorpe2 |

MEXICAN MARTINIS ARE THE BEST! I heard Trudys invented them and they are all yummy! The food was good yet chain restaurant-ish. The salsas were very good though. My sister couldn't eat as the young waiter Don that waited on us has the grossest dirtiest teeth we have ever seen. His service was good though and he was sweet. The waitstaff seemed cheerful. The bartender, a much older lady than the rest of the staff was a little rude. We could only have to Mexican martinis because Don told us they messed up over serving as an establishment so " there was a limit". Bummer. Next time we will go to Jack Allens!

Best Mexican Martinis

By Ana G |

We visited on a Friday and it was PACKED! Everyone seemed to be having a good time and the staff was awesome. We ordered drinks on the patio and waited for a table to open up inside. Brandon was our server. He was super awesome. Suggested all sorts of things to eat, and we weren't disappointed!

Always enjoy it

By Macanudo |

I always get a little nostalgic when I visit a Trudy's. My first meal ever in Austin was at the North Star location when I was a teenager. And it continues to be one of my favorite Tex-Mex places. The South Star feels a little generic and corporate but the food is still good. We had the smoked chicken abuelas enchiladas and they were as good as anything I have had there in the past. It's an Austin institution that deserves it's accolades.

Nice Place, Great Happy Hour

By WARNINGSHOTBILL |

Went primarily for a cold beer after a day of sightseeing. $1.00 a bottle domestic! That's what I said. Not sure if only on Monday's but great deal. Had the crispy tacos they were great. Heather behind the bar was a Gem. Thanks.
