We were first seated inside, at a booth near the restrooms. The smell of urine was over powering! We asked to move across the room. Still smelled bad! Moved outside, to get away from the stench. Our waitress was unsmiling, lethargic, and acted drugged out! Good was just O.K. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Had been recommended to us, and we were very disappointed.

Absolutely packed on a Saturday night. Our party of 12 got a table fairly quickly though. I enjoyed the steak relleno! They did forget part of our order, but comped one of the dishes to make up for it. Nothing blew our minds but decent service and solid meal.

This is a mini-chain in the Austin area. I have eaten here before and always food the food very well tasting, good portions at a moderate price....Great alcoholic drinks..Good selection of items to choose from. It is a cut above the average Mexican fare in Austin. Very popular and busy place..will come again when I am in the area.

The food is good mexican and the mexican martinis are excellent ! Will definitely go back the next time I visit Austin

Midas were awesome! Went on Saturday with my wife and we got 20% off of our bill because we set at the bar. That was a pleasant surprise. Migas were delicious.

Didn't order any food, just a Mexican martini, and it did not disappoint. I shared it with a friend and was perfectly content. Having one by myself would have been a little too much since it was the middle of the day. I highly recommend anyone who is visiting Austin to stop in and order one, it's a fantastic drink. Make sure you pay a little extra to get the top shelf ingredients.

Met a friend here for happy hour and the staff was really friendly....unexpectedly good food.....tasty happy hour specials....I'd go again....

My children and I were looking for a good tex-mex restaurant and Trudy's was recommended by a couple of people who live in Austin. The food was very good and the waiter seemed to be attentive. However, when it came time to pay my bill, I gave $60 in twenties for a $48.17 bill. Initially the waiter acted as if he was just going to take it and not return until I said that I need change. He then brought the change back and I found one 5 and five 1's which does not add up to $11.83. Needless to say, I called the waiter back over and addressed the situation. It was quite clear by his reaction, "I can give you your $2 and I'll have to find the bill" that he deliberately short changed me. Since I could not actually prove his intention, I did not tell management but that definitely left a sour taste in my mouth.

Trudy's is known for their good drinks and Tex Mex food. The drink I had here -- a Bacardi Dragonberry martini -- was quite good and, since it was the day's special, reasonably priced. I thought the food was merely OK. Parking is on the street and quite tight.

We were visiting from the UK and had parked near Trudy's when we realised we needed some lunch on a Sunday. So we gave it a try and to was a great find. We had burgers, chicken caesar salad and a couple of appetisers. Everything was great, really fresh, well cooked and a delight. There was a great atmosphere, the place was buzzing and everyone was laid back in true Austin style. The service was friendly and efficient. Definitely recommend so maybe in a couple of years when we hope to come back to Texas we would love to eat there again.

We shared a chicken with green chile and cheese. The chicken breast was nicely sized and the lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onion, and pickles on the side. Among our group we tried fish tacos which were delicious. The side of pinto beans were spicy good and the rice was good.

Trudy's Texas Star offers a full North American brunch on Sunday mornings. The brunch is self-service and there is good choice of food - almost everything you might expect. The restaurant is comfortable and family-friendly, but I have to say that the breakfast was not the best I have had. nothing really wrong, just didn't stand out. On my visit there was a live C&W acoustic band who were pretty reasonable and added a little extra to the whole experience.

A friend suggested that i go here on my visit to austin. It was absolutely delicious. The "migas" (which is like eggs, cheese, torrillas, peppers, etc all sautéed together) was yum, and i barely like eggs. The red salsa and chips was also great. My friend got a banana margarita, which was surprisingly good. I got a blackberry margarita that was good. The mini stuffed avocados were good. I would definitely visit again.

We love searching out the best Mexican food wherever we travel, and Trudy's was recommended. We were disappointed. We ordered the queso especial, but the standard one was delivered to our table. Once we notified our wait staff, they did deliver the rest of ingredients to our table. Requests for additional salsa did not get filled. Food lacked flavor, tasted very corporate. If you're wanting authentic Mexican flavor, keep looking.

This is UT-area favorite. The bar seemed very busy but the restaurant less so at first. Admittedly I ordered something that did not have the spicy symbol in the menu but the food was exceedingly bland. Even the chips and salsa lacked flavor and kick. Service was flaky, forgetting and confusing the food and drink orders. Nothing special in any aspect. So many dining options in Austin that I would search elsewhere next time.

The atmosphere is intoxicating and the Mexican Martini is an event in itself. I recommend the stuffed avocado. It's a true Austin experience. Avocado stuffed with perfectly seasoned chicken and cheese, breaded and deep-fried!

What a great place to have breakfast - possibly the best Taco's I have ever eaten - and I live in San Antonio. Their Migas Taco's (served with Chorizo) are beyond awesome. Our group tried several different Migas combo's and they were all outstanding. The also prepare an excellent Bloody Mary. The service was good and attentive.

This place was quiet at lunchtime but gets busy in the evenings. A good range of dishes and all served quickly. Our server was really friendly and gave us lots of advice about things to do. And the frozen margaritas? Amazing!

It didn't seem like anyone was really trying to make it a real dining experience. The drinks were ok, the food was ok. The service was ok. There has to be something else if they want me back.

We made it to Trudy's via taxi and hoped to sit outside. There were only seats available at the "bar" outside so we grabbed a couple of stools and had a seat. The service was quick and attentive. The queso we had to start our meal was amazing; the chips were fresh. I had a burrito and my husband had the shrimp tacos - neither of which disappointed. We were very happy with our choice and would go back in a heartbeat.

Great Mexican Martinis - the limit is two. Of course they bring the whole shaker! I love it because the martini stays super cold. The queso with guacamole and pico was delicious as was everything else on the table. Nice atmosphere and fun wait staff.

While in Austin I wanted to try a TexMex place and was recommended this restaurant. I loved it. I am from Canada and when we order a drink we only get one but here they bring you the whole shaker so you keep pouring yourself very delicious martinis (they were on special that day). I would love to go back there again and try their margaritas next time. Food was delicious also

Food is so tasty! The stuffed avocado is my favorite although the fajitas are a close second. We haven't had anything here that was bad.

If you are looking for authentic TexMex with a great atmosphere, this is the place! We sat on the deck and the queso was spectacular and so was the Stuffed Avocado. Mexican Martini a must as well.

I had a choice of Trudy's or Threadgill and chose Trudy's. It was okay, nothing that great or out of the ordinary. Seemed quite popular. The stuffed, fried avocados were good-different, but good! I had chicken enchilada that was good, but not great. Son and daughter in law thought the barbecoa (?) was very good. Seemed to have a large bar. I was not impressed at all with my mojito, maybe their margaritas are better.

I would recommend that you make sure you are very hungry before coming here as the portions seemed huge to my English eyes and stomach. Skip the starter and launch straight into the main course. Prawn fajitas were a big hit with our party, as were the frozen margaritas.

Was in Austin last week visiting a friend before heading to Dallas. I was set to arrive in Austin around dinner time and my friend and his wife suggested Trudy's. He described it as an "Austin institution where UT kids take their parents to eat when they come visit." We were seated quickly for a Friday night and our server was attentive. All three of us had the stuffed avocado. At first, I was a little hesitant to try it but my friend and his wife both said it was great. I am so glad I listened to them because the stuffed avocado is absolutely amazing. It was one of the best dishes I've had at a Tex-Mex restaurant and I've been to a lot of them over the years. This is a must try when in Austin!

Went with a group of 8 people so there was a wait for seating. Not uncommon for the evening. It was a bit crowded and a fairly small space. The staff were friendly and attentive. Sangria margarita was perfect! The food arrive quickly & correctly. The salsa is spicy. Others were not able to enjoy the food due to the heat from spices. The stuffed avocado was different but delicious. The music selection took me back to younger years and I enjoyed it. Even being crowded we were able to enjoy conversations across the table without being difficult. Glad we hit up this spot.

Delicious dinner and fabulous drinks! We had gread red fish and tilapia. You can't miss this placce in Austin. I wish we had time to return this trip! It's a must do place.

Green chile taco's terrible Experience in general Terrible Andrew's attitude was bad along with the service he provided. Fajitas were mediocre

I really enjoyed this place. The food was fresh and tasty. I had the baked avocado dish which had chicken inside. A really ambitious recipe that was a hit. Their "specialty margarita" was heavy on the tequila and just o.k. I actually liked their house margarita better but I go for the taste over the waste(d). The prices were very fair making the fare very good.

Visited early on a Saturday just before the 4th of July. Large comfortable place, quick attentive service and excellent Margaritas. I enjoyed the beef enchiladas suizas, my wife had the beef fajitas, and my son enjoyed the smoked chicken chimichanga. Very good food with lots of flavor but not overly spicy, or especially pricey. The guacamole was very good also. Bring your appetite because the portions and selections are large and varied. Recommended.

We were visiting friends in Austin and they suggested we try Trudy's. I am glad we did because it was a very good lunch. They make their own salsa and the food was fresh and tasty. The service was friendly and prompt.

A student in UT recommended this place. It is apparently very popular place, especially on a Friday night. Good thing is that the place is big so we got a table easily. They have some unique dish like fried avocado with stuffed chicken. The appetizer dish shrimp diablo is also very good, huge prawns wrapped with bacon. Portion is big and price is fair.

I was visiting Austin and I was this is the place to go. I was sure it wouldn't live up to the hype... it did. Real Tex Mex. The tacos are perfect. Very friendly staff. It's nothing fancy, but a great place for a dinner with friends, family or business. Homestyle Tex Mex.

I have been dining at Trudy’s since the 80's and I’ve never had a bad meal here. The food is delicious and never disappoints. Some of my favorite menu items are the banana margaritas, the chile rellenos, and the stuffed avocado. There is a large variety of sauces and sides to choose from and everything is fresh and natural. Sometimes the room gets a little noisy, but I find myself going back over and over because the food is so delicious and may I add, reasonably priced. Trudy’s Texas Star is the original location, and an Austin tradition. The menu has is a lot of variety, and not just your standard Tex-Mex fare. The other locations are also good. Trudy’s is, and has always been one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Austin.

I came to eat here with family while we stayed in Austin. I chose the burger and I must admit it was one of the best burgers I have eaten in a long time. The rest of the family had Mexican food and they all liked it and it looked delicious. Lots of drink specials and the staff were very friendly and provided good service. We had a large family and the restaurant was busy but they accommodated us the best they could. I would eat here again.

Came here one night after a long day of work. I was in Austin on business for a few days. A co-worker suggested Trudy’s. Food was awesome, staff is friendly and drinks were strong. The stuffed avocado are a MUST!! I hear this place gets crowded on the weekends. We arrived after midnight and were able to get seating right away. That was a plus. Highly recommend.

We were touring the UT campus and asked some undergrads where to eat. So college kids like it. I had the Miya’s and chicken fajita combo. Excellent!

We went hear this past Sunday on our way back home, my wife went to UT and had been to Trudy's multiple times during her time in Austin. I have heard about Trudy's before and it got the usual because it's in Austin it's the best place ever review. I studied the breakfast buffet prior to looking over the menu so I could make an educated decision on my plan of attack. After studying over the breakfast menu I noticed everything offered on the menu was on the buffet, so I decided to get the buffet. I couldn't imagine just because you order it off the menu that it would be made differently than what's put on the buffet line. However I did like their salsa, it had good flavor and nice little kick of heat on the back end. On the buffet line their were some pork empanadas which were awesome. I also liked their queso, but everything else was alright. It seemed like everything I tried was missing something, I couldn't put my finger on what it was missing. Our waitress was pretty terrible, we got there prior to the after church crowd so it wasn't even close to full. It took her about 15 minutes to bring us our drinks, then the next time I saw her was when she brought the checks. I can say I have been to this famous Trudy's for breakfast, I have no urge to go back for it.

Even though my family is from Texas, I had never been to Trudy's before my most recent trip to Austin. After that encounter, I am kicking myself for having missed it on every previous trip. Every dish I tried for dinner was like the best version of that dish. I knew I was in for a good time when just the salsa had my head spinning from good flavor. Stuffed Avacado, Chile Relleno, Enchiladas, Margaritas... all of it so good. The next time I'm in Austin, I don't care what else we're doing, this place is on the itinerary.

I am a margarita snob. I want to taste lime, real lime, not sweet and sour, so Trudy's first won me over with their excellent and reasonably priced margaritas. I am also a spice snob. Bland Tex-Mex displeases me greatly. Trudy's never fails to deliver a punch when their menu items promise spice, and their salsa is fresh and varied, from a hot green sauce to the traditional red. I love their carnitas tacos, and when I want to be healthier, they make awesome veggie tacos too. But then again, the fish is also outstanding. This location can be a little loud in the downstairs bar area, but when in a college town, you just have to embrace that and order another margarita!

Horrible service! Not worth it. We order 2 cocktails and a Sprite and took forever to get cocktails and had to ask for the Sprite twice. Order appetizer of Chili Con Queso and they never refilled the chip basket. When we told her to put on what check she screwed that up. Management really needs to train staff much better! Good thing they have good cooks for the food but service is important as well.

Nice restaurant frequented mainly by university students of UT Austin. Good Mexican food. Fajitas and enchiladas. Martini full shaker for just five dollars as it was happy hour. The Restaurant is true value for money.

We were seated on the patio and it took more than 5 minutes for the waiter to come to get our drink order and about the same to get them. Then he didn't come back for our order. Instead we got a new waiter. He was a little faster and friendlier. The appetizer was the best part of the meal. I can't remember the name but they were like mini chicken TexMex egg rolls. My meal was okay and that's pretty much what we thought of the whole experience. It was just okay.

I visited this restaurant with my family during my journey from San Antonio to Dallas. We went there in the evening time and the restaurant was almost full. The food and drink variety was good and had lot of options to choose from. The place is a bit noisy as the floor space is less (lot of crowd in a small space obviously creates noise)! The order was delivered a bit late due to crowd... All in all a good place to hang around and enjoy some delicious food!

So there are many good, and also quite a few not-so good, Tex-Mex choices in Austin. We have nearby family and visit fairly frequently. Our experience at Trudy's was excellent for flavor, value, drink choices and ambience. The only negative was somewhat inattentive service, otherwise this would have been a 5 star review. It was a busy night so that may be a reason and we were enjoying the company of good friends so the slowness wasn't particularly objectionable. The stuffed avocado is an interesting, unique and tasty option. I am a big fan of chile rellenos. Here you can get a variety of fillings (10 in all) prepared as enchiladas, burritos, or rellenos! I opted for the carnitas caliente with the rellenos base. It was excellent and the "caliente" label not withstanding it was not that spicy. Each filling is denoted with 1-3 peppers according to spiciness. Next time I'm in Austin I'm going back to try a rellenos with a different filling.

Nice Tex-Mex place. Friendly people, good food. Would return. I was with friends so did not check out the bar, but it was full of people who appeared to be having fun.

Nice breakfast selection on weekends. Inexpensive. Very good Guatemala coffee. Good service. The place needs bigger restrooms.

Management is horrendous..Game night... asked to have channel changed to game.... an hour later.... oops... I was busy... apparently nobody else is allowed to use the remote?????? .. Do not get the House Martini Special.... food was average...... Visiting from out of town for business... will not recommend .....

Stopped at Trudy's as we were heading for the airport to return home to California. I had a featured chicken dish that was really yummy and plentiful. Very friendly server and nice atmosphere.

I remember having coffee and breakfast at this wonderful restaurant in the early 1980s, if memory serves correctly. Always enjoyed this location for the ambience, youthful crowd and great food. And let's not mention the Stellar service over the years. I've seen them come and go, but rarely have I ever experienced poor service. I meet friends regularly on Sunday morning and this is one of our favorites.

Our family of four was staying in Austin for five nights, and on our way out of town, we were looking for someplace else to eat, where we haven't been. What a great find! Very good food..chicken, burgers and tacos all very good! Very clean, friendly staff too!

Patio seating was great! Nice drink specials but wasn’t too impressed with good! Perfect for get together at happy hour!

Good first visit... We had the enchiladas Texana and the pork carnitas tacos. We thought everything was very tasty. The manager Charlie was all about the customer experience. Plus they are open until 2am.

Was in town from Dallas for the weekend and a group of 5 of us stopped in for late night drinks and food. The group had their yummy martinis and we ordered various entrees. I tried the stuffed jalapenos!! WOW, they were so de-lish and so large, I could only finish one of the four. The server, I wish I remembered her name, was so nice and funny! We laughed with her as a large bachelor party made their way in to the restaurant. This place is certainly off the beaten path but a great find and I would return next time I am in Austin! One request: Coors Light on DRAFT!!! thx

Best chicken fried steak and sides i have tasted in a long time good mexican food also and margaritas interesting atmosphere great location

We went here for lunch before a campus tour and enjoyed everything. The queso is amazing. We also had stuffed jalapeños and stuffed avocado. All of it was great.

Trudy’s was delightful. I had the Migas Enchiladas and a bloody Maria for breakfast. Quick tip on the bloody Maria you need to give it a god stir to experience the full flavor. Trudy’s is nice, easy to enjoy and no frills. Also if you’re interested in local art they’ve got some great pieces on the wall you can buy and take home.

The hot sauce at Trudy's is worth the trip alone before you even get to your main course. Fajitas were served with healthy portions of cheese, guacamole, and sour cream. Go during Happy Hour before 7 for best prices on margaritas. I was a little disappointed that we arrived at 6:55 and the server in the bar said he couldn't offer Happy Hour prices because it takes too long to get the order in at that time. Best to sit on the porch/patio as it can be loud inside.

The food was outstanding and the food selection was unique. The waiter took the order right a way, but was a long wait for the food preparation/purchase. The restaurant was full of people, but we waited at least 45-1 hr for a take out. No place to be seated for the long wait. Even folks that called ahead had a long wait also. We went back at a less busy time and was waited on & served in a more timely manner. The food is Very Good.

Visited this restaurant recently. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. The price was great. The Stuffed Avacado dish is highly recommended as is the fried shrimp. Is very popular and consequently can be very busy and crowded. If you ore in Austin, don't miss it.

held a rehearsal dinner for my son's wedding there. Mexican martini's were good. Food was awesome!! Service was fast and we were well taken care of for a party of about 30 people!!

Fantastic option for brunch, lunch, dinner, or late night drinks. During a recent brunch, the manager personally come over to check on us multiple times. The food is great and the mexican martinis are top notch.

Excellent service, but nothing exciting as far as the food goes. The ambient noise is excessive. When I was there no less than 4 TVs were blaring at the same time. Also, the booth seating is ridiculous with no legroom for people sitting across from each other. In short, not up to Austin standards.

Trudy's was our absolute favorite restaurant in Austin, TX. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was to die for. We sat outside, and while the only section that was available was the smoking section, it didn't bother us. When there was a smoker that sat right beside my husband, we could not smell any hint of smoke.. it was great! I got the fish tacos with the handmade corn tortillas and I have to say, they were AHMAZING. The margarita was good, I would have rather had a frozen one though. Definitely will be coming back just for this restaurant (;

Perfect place for Tex-Mex and beverages of the adult variety! My girlfriend and I came late on a rainy night and sat at the bar. We were pleasantly surprised with 20% off of our bill for sitting at the bar! I had carnitas tacos and my girlfriend got a bean burrito. The food wasn't the best tex-mex in Austin, but was still very good. All in all, Trudy's was a perfect place to begin our winter trip to Austin.

We were not sure what we wanted, so we asked our server what she thought was good. She asked us what we liked and then made recommendations. Wow! She got it right. I had the Stuffed Avocado, my husband had the Large Q Especial with beef, and my son had the Tinga Beef Enchilada. Before our meals came we had strawberry margaritas and chips and queso. Everything was delicious and unique. We will definitely go there again on our next visit.

I try to get to one of the Trudy's restaurants at least once a month. I like that it is a local place that has expanded to 4-5 locations. Because I love their Migas so much, I rarely order anything else but my friends have and they also enjoyed their various Mexican plates. Unfortunately the hours are different depending on the location so you have to check before you go. We have been disappointed that some of the restaurants don't open until 4:00 pm.

Very nice food, very good ambience, perfect place to be in when you are really hungry and need some real tex mex food. This is the restaurant with its right size of meals and tasty food offered. Good choices for vegetarian food as well. I will definitely return to eat once again.

Food was really great, everything was fresh and good size portions. Very casual atmosphere and friendly wait staff.

Wonderful margarita selections! We enjoyed both the House Margs as well as the daily Special (Sangria on our day). Our appetites were all drawn to the Fajita Relleno which was a creative take on both fajitas and chili relleno - excellent! Reasonable prices, friendly service. I would return with pleasure.

From out of town and went here with my aunt and uncle. Drinks are excellent - margaritas and Mexican martinis. My husband had the shrimp tacos and I had the beef. Both were very good. The others had fajitas and they looked excellent. This was our first visit and would go back!

Even though we had to wait for a table because the restaurant has opened setting, the wait was worth it. The waiters let us know when customers were about to leave so that we could be prepared to "grab" a table. Martinis are inexpensive and copious. I ordered the spinach/mushroom quesadillas. They were delicious. The best vegetarian quesadilla I have had in quite a while!

Love this place! Great house margaritas- on the rocks with salt- and the jalapeño poppers appetizer and stuffed avocado are fresh and very filling. Been coming here when in town for many years and never disappointed.

Stopped in for a great dinner last week with friends. I tried the stuffed avocado which was fantastic. It is a fried avocado stuffed with chicken & cheese, and then topped with suiza sauce and more cheese. Washed it down with a Mexican Martini which was out of this world. You really should try it! The service was good and the outdoor patio had a great ambiance. If I am in the area again, I will make sure to stop here.

I had the fajita with chicken and really enjoyed it. My daughter got the beef enchilada and didn't like her choice. We both loved and, highly recommend, the guacamole. It was so smooth and flavorful. Enjoy!!

Trudy's came highly suggested by a friend who's a longhorn alumni. He swore by the tacos and margaritas, which are supposed to be "voted the best in Texas.' PROS: Shrimp tacos/rice/avocado were excellent! Staff was friendly Service and atmosphere were great! CONS: the self proclaimed best margarita in Texas did not even come close to those you will get at your local outback or Fridays. They offer the mythical margarita 50% off if you vote for them online as witnessed by your server---before even having a drop of it. The fish tacos were bland. I was satisfied overall. I will recommend this to a friend, but please do not go here expecting to live longer because of their margarita.

With the many great restaurants in Austin, this is one you can safely skip. The food was average. The server rudely interrupted us in the middle of a conversation, then never returned to the table after I told her that we were talking.

We arrived around five and were seated immediately. They have upstairs seating in air conditioning and also patio seating. Some of the patio seating is air conditioned but also outside options. We were served our drinks within minutes of ordering and our food arrived within 20 minutes. They offer a variety of drinks and food options and our waitress was able to make recommendations with ease. Checkout was at our table and quick and easy. There was a crowd waiting to be seated by 5:30 this Friday night so early is best if you are in a crunch for time. Happy Hour is reasonable with lower priced drinks. Next time we want to go before four for breakfast options.

This is definitely a place to check out if you want local tex mex. I probably ate way too many chips, but the salsa is super good. There's a lot of space both inside and out, but it is a little bit loud (if that bothers you). There isn't really anything special about the interior, but the food is really good. If you plan to drink, we warned you are not allowed to mix your alcohol, so choose wisely! Be warned the Mexican Martini is large and strong. The service we received was just mediocre- our guy was new (not sure why he was given a party of 12) so there was a lot of hiccups with ordering and checks.

I've not had anything yet on the menu that wasn't just great. The beer is cold and the Mexican martinis are the best. Highly recommend the smoked chicken chimichanga. Don't forget their happy hour.

I graduated from UT 25 years ago, and during a recent visit to Austin I had the opportunity to have dinner with some old friends and we chose Trudy's. It was great back then and it was still very good after all these years. I had a Tex Mex Combo plate and enjoyed it very much.

Great place to get a bite to eat with your loved one. They have amazing customer service and wide variety of dishws to choose from.

Last night, I went with a bunch of friends to Trudy's to celebrate my friend's 22nd birthday. All of us are 21+ and when they went to check our IDs they took mine in the back because it was an out of state ID. The manager, Abby, came up to me extremely forceful and said I need to leave immediately or they will call the police because of my "fake" ID. I told them to call the police since I am about to turn 22. Abby was so extremely rude and would not even listen to me she just wanted me to leave even though all of my other friends could stay. Trudy's never ended up calling the police even though I told them to and they made all of my friends and I leave the restaurant. I have NEVER seen such poor service and I hope Abby, the MANAGER, gets fired for the way she handled the situation. It was just awful and I nor any of my friends and family are going back. After, we went to torchy's and they scanned my ID and obviously it was real because I am 21. They never even tried to scan it. Horrible manager and restaurant.

This is something of an institution and when you live near campus you tend to eat here out of habit. I've been going for over a 12 years now and while the migas keep me coming back, the reality is that the old restaurant is losing its quality. One thing to recognize is that this is really several restaurants in one, and I don't mean that in a physical sense, even though there are two different areas, upstairs (main) and downstairs (sort of outside/mixed). Rather, Trudy's takes on different qualities depending on the time you visit. Weekend mornings are solid breakfast crowd, all eggs, pancakes and families. This being Austin, there are also more than a few folks enjoying a morning cocktail too. Gotta love it. Evenings bring out the younger, student crowd and the place is bit more like a pub. The food keeps coming but the beer and margaritas are the real draw. UT Football -- don't bother going. All told, this is as predictable as night following day so choose your time and know what you're getting. I've seen the place get the odd facelift (not much, it still has that worn-in look that some might consider chic, others cheap) and it has its own distinctive smell. The staff turnover is a high so even when you get to know your server, the chances or he or she will not be there at some point when you visit, though perhaps that reveals how long I've been going. I only eat migas in the mornings there but have sampled their chicken fajitas (recommended) and burgers (ok) on occasion. I like the fish tacos too. It used be be that the food was completely predictable - migas with creamy eggs, red potatoes fried in the pan and decent beans of several varieties, all matched with fresh tortillas of your choice. Coffee comes with different options, the standard or an upgraded Kona (usually far superior, and recommended). The skinny fries are also a great option. The trouble comes with the lack of consistency in recent visits. Last week, my coffee came completely cold and when I told the waitress, she took 20 mins to get me a fresh cup. This was not the first time. Yep, she probably had to brew a fresh pot but really, cold coffee? The once-vaunted migas have slipped down a notch or two and, depending on how lucky you are, might be perfect or might be a bit dried up and stale tasting, requiring copious coverage with the consistently good sauces to improve taste. People tell me that at certain times of day, e.g., when quiet, best not to order the migas as they will have been sitting there a while, and thus to order something else that has to be made to order each time. Probably true. A vegetarian friend had meat served in her meal which was really a deal breaker for her, she'll never return. That said, the staff are generally very friendly and the place is such an institution now that you sort of have to put up with it and most of the more transient area residents feel duty bound to act like this is the heart of Austin authenticity. I would not think of it this way but am not sure what is anymore as everything is developing so fast. I'll go back every now and then and will expect sometimes to even have a great meal here but if you want consistency, try Kirby Lane.

Went to Trudy's by myself for a late lunch and the crowd was small. The host told me if I ate at the bar I would get a 20% discount off the food entree. I had the chicken taco salad and had several choices of chicken preparations, which is great. However, although the rest of the salad was excellent the rotisserie chicken I chose was not great. Then the bill did not reflect the offered discount. Because of good meals in the past at Trudy's we will return and hope for a better outcome.

I was tired, it was raining and I hadn't eaten all day. There was a Chili's close to my hotel, and as much as I try to avoid them, sometimes you're stuck. I turned to go in the driveway, and saw the sign for Trudy's. Boy am I glad! The food is very good, the service was great, the prices are very reasonable, and if you go out of there still hungry, you should seek medical attention immediately. The portions are generous, the chips are great and the the salsas are wonderful. Thank you Trudy's ~

OK this is not your average health food meal. But if you go to Austin, you HAVE to go here. My local friends took me since this is their favorite Tex-Mex in a place that is bursting with Tex-Mex. I agree wholeheartedly - best meal in Austin. Loaded Jalapenos for appetizers Stuffed Avocado for an entree And Mexican Martinis all around. Perfectly delicious meal... mmm. Though I suppose I should've gone for a run or something after this :)

This is a place our daughter in law enjoyed going to when she lived in Austin. The place looks a little rough and tumble but the food is fantastic and the portions are huge. We started with some fabulous queso. I had the steak fajitas and my wife had the shrimp. The meals were all brought out together and served piping hot. Everything is fresh and flavorful and I doubt you could wrong ordering anything they have on their extensive menu. Full bar with lots of beers available. The service is very good and helpful and attentive.

Best queso I think I have ever had. The melon margarita was also fabulous. I had migas and hubby had carnitas tacos....both were amazing. We will be coming back !!!!

I went here with friends. I wasn't quite sure what to order but I knew I was hungry and wanted something "bad". So I saw that there was a dish that was chicken stuffed with chorizo and fried and covered in queso. That's basically all my favorite things and I almost didn't get it because it's really naughty, but I got it and didn't regret it. Everyone loved their meal. My server was very friendly and helpful. I ordered a margarita with salt on the rim, but it tasted like they dumped salt in it. I actually sent it back and they gave me another one that was still salty. It was confusing, but anyway, that was the only bad thing. The place is pretty huge so I imagine it would take a lot for it to get packed, but who knows... I was there for lunch on a Monday.

A little bit of Texas dive feel inside (but very clean) with great food. You feel like you are in Texas tex mex restaurant. All of the entrees we had were awesome and the wait staff was knowledgeable about the menu and attentive. SK was a great server.

My wife and I love Trudy's. They are an Austin Texas tradition and for a good reason. The atmosphere is really fun and fits in great with the city of Austin. The food is really good and definitly cant be missed. You have to try to Stuffed Avacado. I have had other dishes at Trudy's and they are all good, but the Stuffed Avacado has them all beat. Top that off with a Mexican Martini and you are all set.

Excellent food, as service. I order the guacamole which is a shareable size for a large group, best ever. And Shrimp enchiladas! The waitress was quick and friendly! Fist time I’ve had real service if this level in a while.

There's not a lot to say about Tex-Mex if you're from Texas. I was born in Austin and have seen restaurants come and go. Quality food, drinks and service is why you come here. I had pork fajitas - they had another name, but they were pork fajitas. Spectacular! Tender, hot, not dried out and had all the trimmings. No way one person can finish this meal by themselves. My wife had green chili chicken tacos, again, she couldn't finish everything, which is awesome. There will be leftovers! Drink menu lives up to the hype. Tasty, not watered down and they give you a choice of liquors up front. If you don't mind rotgut liquors, that's what they tell you. I'm older, no more rotgut nights for me, all premium. Just come here. it's laid back, not too fancy, and no one cares if you spill cheese on your jeans before the night starts...or that's what my wife says.

Trudy's appears to be very popular and is a nice enough place with decent decor. Our meal started a little substandard with chips that were cold, but we overlooked that. My wife ordered a margarita for the two of us, and she thought her's was a bit off in taste. I found them drinkable but not great, and suggested she ask for another. Notifying our waiter he told us he couldn't directly return it but had to follow, "a protocol". We hadn't a clue what he meant, but ten minutes later a manager type stopped by and asked her what the issue was. She just explained it wasn't for her and she was happy to finish it and would like another of a different recipe. After another 10 minutes, nothing arrived and we were revisited by our waiter, who took her order (again) for a new drink. Another 10 minutes went by and the waiter returned to ask if she wanted another, to which she said she reminder him (this makes three times) she'd ordered another ten minutes before. Another ten minutes went by and the manager returned. We told him to forget the drink we were about to leave. This review of course says nothing about food, which we order and ate during this time. We found the food fairly good, a bit over salted and strong but decent. At every point we interacted with our waiter it just got weird though. With all due respect he seemed to have some issue with communication. Overall I'd call the place average, but with the really bizarre service I doubt we would return. This was probably luck of the draw and your milage may vary a lot. But, given the manager was well aware that things weren't going well and they did little to fix it, you should probably expect the same. I should say also, this is very non-standard for Austin. In general if you have an issue with a drink, you'll have a replacement in 2 minutes.

We were visiting UT Austin and heard from a bunch of students that this is a must eat place. Boy were they right! We visited this place on a Saturday night and were lucky to get there at 6;15 pm and got seated pretty much right away (table for 5 adults, 2 kids). Our waiter was extremely helpful and we took his recommendations for food. He suggested the stuffed, fried avocado and the Cholula honey chicken. OMG they were both excellent! The chicken had a light, crispy outside and super moist inside and the sauce it came in was sweet and spicy. All of us raved about it and the stuffed avocado was amazing too. This was definately our best meal in Austin over the 3 days. We will be back every time.

Who doesn't like Trudy's, an Austin institution since 1977, that consistently delivers good food and a great bar experience? We have enjoyed many delicious breakfasts and dinners since 1993 at several of the Austin Trudy's. A recent takeout dinner at Trudy's Texas Star met expectations for tasty food but had a few hiccups in service. We ordered takeout for two adults, chicken fajitas which were nicely prepared, and two vegetarian children's meals. Trudy's got the vegetarian quesadilla order perfect, which was important, but the children's enchilada was not eaten. Service glitches included being charged the wrong amount, having the tortillas hand delivered to us by the manager as we walked out the door, and then having to go back inside to request the two children's lemonades. This was at 6:00 on a Saturday night and the restaurant was not busy. I have shared this only because we have previously had a takeout service problem at this location. We will continue to enjoy Trudy's but we will add a careful component to be sure all is right.

My friends and I always come to Trudy's when we want good texmex and drinks. The stuffed avocado is my personal favorite and arguably the best thing on the menu; everyone talks about it so just go ahead and try it, if you love avocado you WON'T be disappointed! They offer a great deal on Thursdays where margaritas are only $2!! Any other day i'd recommend trying the Mexican Martini, lemme tell ya you'll only need to buy one drink!

When it was time to find a place to eat my daughter suggested that we go to Trudy's. She had visited Austin a few months prior and was brought here by a friend. None of us were disappointed, we were greeted politely at the door, seated quickly and wait staff was right there to take our drink orders. The waiter made some great suggestion for a meal to try and we all walked away very happy. Next time we come back I'm trying that stuffed avocado.

I've eaten at my share of Mexican/TexMex here in Central Austin, but Trudy's has taken the top spot! I recommend their stuffed avocado. Can you say cheese? Lots of ooey gooey goodness packed inside and melted in top. Their strawberry margarita with a side shot on top rounded out this excellent meal. Staff was friendly with a sense of humor, that was refreshing! Try them late at night on the weekend, less crowded. Open until 2!

Came with a large group of friends for dinner. They did a great job of seating our large party without much wait. Our waiter was attentive and provided lots of great recommendations. I had the beef tinga quesadillas - very flavorful and very spicy. Margaritas were perfect on a hot day too!

After a shopping trip a salesperson helping us suggested we pop next door to get a bite here. We weren't expecting much as it was located in a strip mall. We were wrong. Trudys had great service, great (and lethal) cocktails and delicious food. We started with Mexican Martinis and then had the stuffed avocado and the special chicken entree. This isn't health food but it was delicious--prepared perfectly and great for an occasional calorie splurge. Prices were very fair and they have specials and happy hours. A really great option for a fun night or happy hour out.

Visited this location with friends and had a great time. Our waiter was training a staff member and they provided good alcohol suggestions for everyone. We had a good catching up and enjoying good food. The food was everything that my friend said it would be! Visit Trudy's when in Austin...

Found Trudy’s after searching for a nearby BBQ place that went out of business. What a find! Very inexpensive, nightly specials, free queso and salsa bar, even $2 margaritas on the night I visited. The Honey Cholula Chicken was amazing! Served with a tangy spicy sauce and what seemed like pickled red onions. Served with a southwest roasted corn on the cob. Service excellent, seemed like a real Austin experience!

this was recommended to us for Tex-Mex, it was well worth the visit. The food and drinks very good and large portions. The restaurant is right next to the Univ of Texas, thst had to be the only explanantion for having the Longhorn baseball team on TV, a couple of months after the season had ended! But that's OK, they love their 'horns!

Dropped by for their well known martinis. Does not disappoint, very generous portion for the price and tastes good to boot!

I was expecting better so I was a little disappointed. I had the stuffed avocado and was told how great it was. It was good...not great. We went around the table and all thought pretty much the same thing. Sorry. I wanted to like it more.

I think this is a great place to bring the family or hang out with friends on the weekend or after work for dinner and a drink. The atmosphere was fun and energetic but not wild like a bar scene, with great customer service. The menu had tons of choices for reasonable prices and the alcohol beverages were plentiful and fun, great weekly specials too. I met a friend for dinner that I hadnt seen in 4 years and it was great to catch up over good food and drinks.

Go hungry because you will eat everything! And the stuffed avocado is amazing! We got there early and were seated right away but I can see there being a long wait later in the evening.

The food was very good. It was very crowded on a Friday night and everything was great. Staff was super friendly and service was fast for the amount of people that were there. We had the queso eapecial, I had chicken tacos and my husband had the fish tacos. The salsas they bring out are also very tasty. No complaints here. Will definitely come back if ever in Austin again.

Amazing margaritas!! Food was delicious also but Our waitress barely would refill our drinks or check on us and it always felt like we were bothering her.. and salsa came in 2oz cups...but other then that we had a wonderful visit!

Chicken Burrito... Knock out of the park fresh salsa. Service was decent but not outstanding but the food was really really good! I will go back!

This is a great lunch location. I went with two friends today. They both had enchiladas and said they were wonderful. I had pulled pork tacos and they were great too. I like their corn tortillas which are as close as I can come to border tortillas. Great lunch, good service as well. In and out in plenty of time.

Went to Trudy's on a visit to Austin to tour a college with our daughter. It was awesome! My husband had a brisket special, I had carnita enchiladas, and our daughter had carnita tacos. The refried black beans were so good and the Mexican street corn is super. The restaurant is in an old house with a cool laid back vibe and lots of college students. Servers are attentive, know the menu, and offer recommendations on drinks and food specials. Trudy's is not fancy, a little loud, but really great food and drinks at a reasonable price. We enjoyed our dinner so much we came back the next day for lunch! Unfortunately we were only in Austin less than 24 hours. Otherwise we would have gone back again.

I went to college at UT and happily lived a books away. Now, it's always my first day in Austin go to restaurant. Lots of vegetarian choices. And excellent chicken fried steak. Awesome frozen margaritas. And the best Mexican breakfast. I can't write anymore. I'm hungry just thinking about it and live too far away. But if you're in Austin - this is the best Tex-Mex.

Really great food and awesome burgers. Try and get here before 6:30 on the weekend to beat the mad rush. Very loud place but lots of food food for adults n kids n even vegetarian food.

I stopped by after a UT basketball game. The crowd was small because it is usually packed. The service is okay. I ordered the Tex-Mex Combo Platter with a beef taco. The service was not good. My table and chair kept getting bumped into. I was neglected by my server.

Austin is a town for brunching. I've been brunching here for over 30 yrs and am accustomed to hour-long waits. When we arrived around noon, we were seated immediately. We ordered drinks and sides of bacon (part of the brunch experience) and made our way to the buffets. Let me say first off that yes, buffets are usually bottomfeeding, lowest denominator feeding troughs. You've heard of Golden Corral, etc. This is not the case at Trudy's. We grabbed our plates, nice Motown music was playing as we loaded up on french toast, migas, chilaquiles, panko fried catfish, sauteed veggies, bread pudding, spicy cole slaw, lemon bars, tortilla soup, enchiladas, etc. Everything you can imagine. All high quality foods for about $12 per person, which was ridiculously insane only 2 yrs ago, but suddenly $12 seems normal in the food industry. Our server's only job was to refill our tea, and she was mediocre at that, but don't let Austin's weird pierced liberal characters ruin your experience. The food is amazing. The worst part is that my belly never has enough room for two full plates. It always leaves me wishing I were a cow with four stomachs. There is something for everyone here. Nothing disappoints. In fact, when we saw an adjacent table order entrees instead of brunch, I wanted to go shake them and ask if they had just suffered contusions because WHY OH WHY would one ever NOT want Trudy's Buffet?

We got a stuffed avocado, carne guisada and a veggie quesadilla. Food was fine, the stuffed avocado was ok. This restaurant is famous in the area and there are other locations around Austin. We went on a very busy night, we were surrounded by a lively atmosphere. Prices seemed appropriate. Good for groups.

Trust me, order the carnitas mini sopapillas. They're loaded with tender meat, cotija cheese, pickled onions and are served with a jus. Absolutely heavenly. My husband took a bite and regretted he didn't order the same; so he ordered more of them to go.

After finishing a conference we went to Trudy's for dinner. The food was super delicious and the special home cocktail was so tasty. Nice staff. can't say anything else; it was superb! Really recommend Trudy's.

We love the happy hours, chips and salsa. We added queso and it was really fun with the drinks. The wait staff is very attentive and the taco salad hits the spot. I love the atmosphere. It is not far from campus and a great place to meet up with friends.

From the dangerous strawberry margaritas ( get the floater) , giant tasty wings, to just the taco bar is the bomb! amazing stuffed avocado - out of this world, can't do without the queso, just wow all around!

Both restaurant and plate bursting!! The portion sizes were huge, but with $3 Margaritas there is plenty more to focus on than just the food. Although it gives the impression of being a classic Texas diner, the service is actually really great, friendly staff and tasty food. Very reasonably priced, it's hard to avoid the sports crowd and huge TV monitors, but that's the atmosphere.

Great local food. Everything tasted great and was made with fresh ingredients. Eggs Benedict with fajita meat was outstanding. Salsa had awesome flavor with some heat but not overpowering.

I've been to Trudy's before, so I know what I could expect - tasty food with nice servers in a great atmosphere. Too bad it was so far off last Saturday night. We ate in the downstairs bar in spite of the dirty tables. Waiter was new and screwed up 3 of the 4 orders at the table. Not sure I can recommend Trudy's anymore.

I went here for brunch right before a football game, I had the usual pancakes, bacon, and coffee. One of the best cups of coffee I've had in a while. We sat on n the patio. The view was nice, food was delicious, staff was pleasant, there's nothing I didn't enjoy about this trip!

Our group had dinner here on Tuesday night last week. We sat on the bottom level and were able to spread out a bit. Happy hour drink specials were interesting and the house margarita was very good. Shrimp fajitas were plentiful and done well. Service from Jazmyn was excellent and I had a great time!

We are in Austin and went to Trudy's for lunch. Moment I entered I felt I made a bad choice because of the ambience. But moment we got our appetizer Fried Avocado Bites, I was impressed with the creative offering. Happy hour drinks were great. Food was delicious specially our Chicken Chorizo. Would go back and loved the server- Brandon.

I've lived in the neighborhood of Trudy's Texas Star for 18 years and it was always my go-to place for Tex-Mex. Everybody from out of town, we brought to Trudy's, and they always loved it. My husband and I actually had our first date there. I was something very close to Trudy's Texas Star's #1 fan, until about 8 months ago: something changed. We went in for breakfast and the menu was different; no problem, we ordered what we'd been getting for 17 years, it was still available. But when it came, the glorious spiced chicken enchiladas with "verde sauce" that we knew and loved were sadly changed. It was like a soup, with a couple of rolled and filled tortillas floating in it. A mistake! we thought. Any kitchen can have a bad night! So we've been going back, hopefully, trying anything and everything that we once loved in the hopes that this neighborhood staple is no longer wiped from our mental map--but across the board, everything is inferior. I guess it isn't actively _bad_, but it once was actively great. No more. It feels as if somebody brought in a consultant to cut costs, or something. The service is more or less the same. Today it was friendly but not very professional ("Did you need anything?" said my server to me uncertainly as I sat at an empty table, with no water, menu or anything yet--I mean, yes? Please? A menu is a great start!). I did upscale my Mexican martini to an Espolon top-shelf and I must say that it was excellent, tart and delicious. So that, at least, doesn't seem to have changed. But man--I miss the old Trudy's. For newcomers to Austin, or tourists who have had it recommended and wonder why, trust me: it once was worth your while. I don't think I'll go there any more, though, at least until I forget that it isn't what it used to be.

We had a good time enjoy our time at Trudy's but we were a bit disappointed by the speed of the kitchen on a Friday night. It was a full house so we weren't too upset but it did take longer than we expected. Otherwise the food was a good Tex-mex spot for our trip.

The service was haphazard, though the place wasn't particularly busy. Food was OK. It was mostly classic Tex-Mex, probably the most unique part being the incorporation of the breakfast menu items. Reputation exceeds the food quality here, and the dining experience is just OK if you're not either drunk or planning to get drunk later.

While in Austin visited this local Mexican restaurant. Service was great, food was fantastic. They had a chips and queso bar that was delicious. I had a sangria margarita, it was good but not very potent.

I always make sure to stop at Trudy’s when I’m in Austin. We have plenty of Tex Mex in Dallas but there is just something about this place that pulls me in! I don’t do tequila, so it’s not the Mexican martinis (limit 2).... I think it’s the stuffed avocado. It’s all I’ve ever eaten there!!! Trudy’s is a little seedy and a lot of fun.

This is such a great place to stop and have lunch. I loved it that local artists not only had their paintings displayed on the walls but that they were also available to purchase. I think it's great when restaurants show such support. The atmosphere was relaxed and the fajitas that we ordered simply fantastic! The green verde sauce was just as tasty. I didn't see the cook but a raise is definitely deserved ! Our waiter, Ian, was FABULOUS! He was quick, courteous, and everything that you could hope for. Not once did we need for anything. This may have been our first time at Trudy's but I guaranty that we'll come here again !

Great cocktail and drink selection, plus free chips! We sat outside and were surrounded by shaded trees. Very casual and comfortable place to meet up with friends and laugh!

The food was fresh, well prepared and tasty. The strawberry margarita was one of the best I have ever had. The place was busy but the staff kept everyone supplied with food and drink.

My husband and I went to Trudy's for our first lunch in Austin. The atmosphere is casual and consists of 2 large rooms (one with a bar where you get a discount on food if you eat there) and a small outdoor patio. It set the bar high on Tex Mex food. The chips and salsas to start were excellent and plentiful. We had a margarita and Texas martini which were delicious. We shared the fried shrimp tacos and fried avocado (vegetarian style) - highly recommend both. Parking lot is small with on street parking.

We always eat breakfast at Trudy's when we are in town. The Migas enchiladas with chili con carne sauce are unbeatable. The beef fajitas and eggs are also wonderful. Trudy's offers a wide variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options served by an excellent wait staff on a beautiful patio! Margarita anyone?

We went for lunch at 3pm. So there were only two other tables occupied, which was good as we got served faster. I ordered Veggie Flaquities and stuffed avacado- veggie style. They both were very good. We also tried Spinach and mushroom quesadillas and that was good too. Service was quick as there were very few people there. But I have been to Trudy's once before during evening and I think i waited for at least 45-50 mins before we found a table. It is an expensive place. but i would love to com back

The food and drinks were amazing. You can tell this location gets very busy. If I had one complaint, it would be to have a better seating system during bust times. But BY FAR one of my favorite places to eat when in Austin! GREAT WORK TRUDY'S!

Trudy's is hands down the best Tex-Mex I have eaten in Austin. I had the stuffed chicken empanada, beans, and rice. The empanada was great, the rice was good, and the beans were the best I have ever had. The beans were ground fresh upon ordering and rich in flavor. The restaurant has a unique setup as it is almost like two restaurants in one. Tip: they offer 20% off if you order your food at the bar (at least they did when I was there on a Wednesday)

I heard good things about this place from a co-worker, but honestly wasn't expecting that great of a meal. I was very wrong. We started off with some Mexican Martinis - they are not playing around with those! I ordered the stuffed avocado and MAN was it great! I cant wait to go back there to order it again.

This is a bar/restaurant patronized by mostly college students, with multiple tv sets showing sports and eclectic music, mostly a combination of rock and electronic. The atmosphere, although noise is also cozy. Service is friendly and efficient. Good selection of fresh tex-mex dishes. Complimentary crispy tortilla chips with salsa. Nice selection of beers, including local brews. Large servings. Excellent price-quality for an informal lunch or dinner.

Been coming here since the 80's. I'm glad my kids are enjoying it while they're in college. Food is always really good and reasonably priced.

The food was terrible. The Migas tasted like powdered eggs and the chicken fried chicken was a salt fest. The mashed potatoes were of a foreign substance unidentifiable by the human palate. The wait for service on the patio was long and the chatter of employees complaining about their lack of help heightened the level of "Why am i here"? The water glasses (obviously hit by a shrink ray) remained empty and it took over 15 minutes to get the bill. Nevermind the droppings of our nearby Grackles. Dreadful service, dreadful food, dreadful everything. We literally left and went somewhere else to eat. Don't waste your time and money here...Seriously!!

Hadn't been here for many years, and took my out of town guests here for lunch. They loved their cocktails (Mexican Margarita & Bloody Mary) and the food was very good, with large portions--i couldn't even finish my enchiladas--a rare event. Service was friendly and helpful, as as we were at the tail end of the lunch rush, didn't mind if we lingered and visited with our drinks after eating. There is a small parking lot, also street parking. If you come at a peak time be prepared to wait for a table.

Sat outside at this restaurant and its a nice patio. The menu is so full it makes it difficult to decide. I went with the brunch and the Mexican Eggs Benedict which was amazing. I also tried the Mexican Martini which apparently they only allow two per person. We ordered Caso, chips and salsa, all which was very good. Our group was large and they kept the chips coming the whole time so we never ran out. The servers were very attentive, the restaurant was very busy, even the manager came over and introduced himself and he was very nice and helpful....working just as hard as the servers.

We really enjoyed this place. They had cool art on the walls that were for sale and our waitress was very friendly. It was also a nice place to beat the heat! I loved their queso and would go back just for that!! Overall our food was good and we had no complaints!

I am a novice to Tex Mex and this was a bit too hot for me. The service was fine and the food, if you like this sort of thing, was well liked by my friends. The best part of the meal for me was the Mexican vanilla ice cream with a fried dough. The creme brulee was very good, too.

Called the restaurant to make reservations and no one spoke Spanish...first bad sign. We arrived and decided to sit at the patio. We noticed several people smoking cigarettes so we had to sit in the last table at the end of the patio. We ordered queso which was not bad. But the chips were from a bag and flavorless. The salsas were ok. The waiter took a while to comeback and take the order. He said the corn tortillas were made in house and he recommended the "al pastor" tacos. I ordered 3 tacos. The tortillas were cold and thought. They were made with corn and flour. Tasteless. The al pastor meat was warm not hot and it did not taste to my expectations. Waiter again took his time to bring the bill. Had to call him several times. Trudy's is one Mexican restaurant that puts a bad name to Mexican food. Terrible food!!!!

We enjoyed nice Margaritas (go there during Happy Hour!) and casual Mexican food at Trudy's. The outdoor patio is really nice and offers a great atmosphere. Will go there again, for sure.

Good Happy Hour offerings at Trudy's...tried the Cuban Martini (basically a mojito, this one made with a dragonfruit rum, interesting..) basic frozen swirl margs and their silver patron marg...all just fine. Food is prepared fresh, salsas also good...

While staying in the area we heard the locals recommending Trudy’s. The restaurant was easy to get to with plenty of free parking. We were politely greeted at the door by the hostess staff. Selecting the bar for snacks and drinks we were quickly greeted by the busy bartenders. A order of a flight of flavored vodkas was interesting by flavors turned out to be not to my liking. Mini Stuffed Avocados, four fried, cracker crumb breaded mini avocados stuffed with spiced chicken and cheese, served with three sauces for dipping( $10.50) were mushy and uninspiring. Mini Stuffed Sopapillas, Tinga –style, mesquite cooked chicken cooked slowly in a spicy chipotle and onion sauce with burnt onions and queso ($9.50) was AMAZING!!!! We came back a second night for just this appetizer. Then ordered the Shrimp Diablo, Four shrimp, wrapped in Applewood bacon and stuffed with Jalepeno and served with a habanero Jelly ($12.50) was very good as well. The second night we returned with a party of 12 people and ate outdoors. It was a great night for family and friends. Just recognize that speed in the kitchen on a busy night may cause some to wonder. Once we realized we were relaxing in Austin and not in the NCY/ North East, things went a little better. I would return to this location and would recommend it for food and service.

We went to this restaurant solely based on their trivia night which was fun and a challenge. The Crown and diet in a tall glass I ordered could have been stronger. The sampler appetizer was mediocre at best, and the chicken chimichanga should have been called the cilantro chimichanga with the hint of chicken.... so much cilantro in fact I thought they brought me a spinch dish by mistake! So, fun night, eat light or not at all, your choice.

one of our favorite mexican restaurants is Trudy's...any location. They have the best enchildas and sauces (my faves are suiza sauce and caliente sauce) and I love the beans (black refried or regular refried) and the corn mash there too! of course everyone loves the mexican martinis!

First, how could I not love a place that has a fajita and rita special?!? Those are my two favorite things to order at a mexican restaurant! The queso, margaritas, and fajitas were all delicious.

I was introduced to Trudys while in college. Whenever I am back in Austin, I make a trip back. The queso is delicious! The salsa is spicy, and the Mexican martinis are the best!

Went here for a quick bite--was offered a 20% discount for food at the bar top. Had the Shrimp Diablo app. Large shrimp! Very tasty. Bartenders were great. The place filled up with large parties after 6pm very quickly.

Trudys has great Mexican Martinis. House is fine, but I like choosing my tequila. They have THE BEST stuffed avocados. Every other restaurants is now a disappointment as they do not compare. Also love their tinga tacos. It's a spot we hate to miss when visiting Austin

I've eaten here a couple of times and every time it has been solid TexMex food. And the Mexican Martini is excellent. I'll be back I'm sure.

Our daughter who used to live in Austin told us about this place. It was great! The bartender was our server, and he was on top of it. Great service, and my new favorite food, stuffed avocados, make me want to return soon!
Half-price Appetizers
We met some friends here and enjoyed the food immensely! Our server was excellent and my Texas Nachos and soda came to $7.48 and it was more than I could eat. The cushions on our booth were broken and I had to fight to not slide into a trench.
