Wonderful Dinner

By Andre D |

Stopped in for dinner after watching a performance of Hamilton. The ancient grain bowl was wonderful and the service was great. Lots of items to choose from.

Healthy and delicious

By pimplepopperDO |

We enjoyed lunch here - the space is large and fresh, there is outdoor seating as well. I enjoyed a kambucha and the ancient grains bowl with tofu- it's was so delicious! I enjoyed my husband's quinoa bowl as well, both equally flavorful and both left us feeling satisfied! I wish we had this restaurant in Dayton, OH!

Excellent

By _S1278FY |

Excellent restaurant. The food is very tasty. The place is welcoming and excellent service. We ate 2 spinca mushroom pizzas. And a bowl of ancient grains salad with salmon added. The flavors were exquisite. The pizza was with garlic cream, spinach with caramelized onions, ricotta cheese with touches of chili. Highly recommended.

So sick of rude hostesses

By Michelin61 |

Very rude hostess. Looked at us up and down in a disdainful manner. Btw, we were dressed well. Perhaps she had a problem with well- dressed people? Nonetheless, we joked with her but nothing but a scowl on her face remained. Food was good enough but when you are treated poorly from the get-go, it's a no-go.

So many delicious choices

By IowaMusictravel |

We had four people in our party, and we all enjoyed our meals greatly. Additionally, my old fashioned was delicious.

Nice place for a quick lunch.

By Owen G. |

Nice place for a healthy lunch. Like their salad. Food was fresh, service was quick. I liked the ambiance. Servers were kind.

Vegan Bacon!

By Maria S |

The vegan BLT is one of the best things I have eaten since I became vegan. But wait, there's more -- vegan pizzas (yummy), vegan bowls (wonderful), and plenty of other choices. True Food is a great place to go if you are a vegan. It's a really great place if you have meat-eating friends and want everyone to be HAPPY with the choice! Wonderful cocktails too!

Dinner

An excellent place if one want fresh food in a casual place The place is buzzing Excellent service at bar and dining table

Worthy of two visits...in one day!

By Denise W |

I never thought I'd limit my Chicago dining to the same restaurant for lunch and dinner the same day, but I proudly say that I did! True Food Kitchen's menu is varied and vast. It was so hard to decide what to select when my daughter and I enjoyed made our selections for lunch -- the Teriyaki Quinoa Bowl and Moroccan Chicken (as good as dishes I had in Marrakesh) -- we suggested that the entire family scrap our dinner prior reso and head back. Again - everything was delicious. Dinner gave us a chance to try everything from a beet juice cocktail (terrific!) and starters including charred cauliflower and edamame dumplings all the way to a delicious squash pie for dessert. Still so much more to enjoy -- I might even go back to Chicago just to have lunch...and dinner!

Excellent healthy food

Really clean, nice place to eat. Super healthy food choices on the menu. the staff are super nice, friendly and helpful. I wanted to know about a good place to listen to Jazz and they really helped me out.

First visit to True Food Kitchen

By Razorfish |

My wife and I dined at True Food Kitchen one evening during a trip to Chicago for a business conference this past July. She had the lasagna and I had the spicy Panang curry. She enjoyed the lasagna but I didn’t care for the Panang curry. I had narrowed my choices between the curry and the Poke bowl. I should have gone with the Poke bowl. The curry just didn’t suit my taste.

Fresh and yummy

By MinnesotaWT |

We have now visited True Foods in multiple cities and the Chicago very stays true to the original. Pad Thai was spicy and shrimp grilled perfectly (too much to eat), sea bass light and flavorful, with great service. If you are not into healthy eating, not the place for you.

Great Salads, Great Beers and Wine

By Foodange |

Came here for daytime beers whilst shopping and enjoyed it so much that we booked for the evening. Sat outside on the street both times. The evening meal was really yummy. Both had wonderful salads with all sorts of interesting ingredients; dates, cranberries, manchego, shrimp in one and a Cobb with kale, avocado and gorgonzola. Sonoma chardonnay helped things along and we finished with a scoop of real vanilla ice cream and a delicate summer tart with mango, almond, coconut and blueberries. The chefs here clearly don’t settle for just a couple of ingredients when 4 or 5 will do but it all worked brilliantly.

Great food, great atmosphere!

By SacredTrickster |

I am a bit late to the party on this one but I have only just tried True food Kitchen. It really didn't disappoint! The place is really big and atmosphere is great, perfect for meeting friends etc. I had a roasted cauliflower appetiser followed by an arugula pizza. Both were amazing and I would definitely have again. I will be back!

Nope! Felt worse. Not better.

By Jewelsworld |

True Food Kitchen's philosophy is that food should make you feel better, not worse. We ordered the Charred Cauliflower, the Poke Bowl and the Moroccan Chicken. The dishes were creative and beautifully plated and tasted good going down though they seemed very heavy on spices, especially garlic. And that came back to haunt both of us for hours after our dinner. We definitely felt worse. And I'm the spice queen of cooking so that says something about the amount of spices True Food Kitchen uses in their creations. It made us wonder what they're trying to hide. We still had very gassy tummies the next morning. I know - TMI - but I'm being honest. It was not fun. Our server had given us the whole song and dance about how good their food is for setting our gastrointestinal systems right but if that's what it was doing, it was horribly uncomfortable and definitely didn't feel like it was improving anything. Anyway, with all the awesome choices in the area, we probably won't try True Food again. The menu may be good for those wanting a vegan or GF prep and if you're used to getting all your flavor from heavy spices and garlic, your tummy will be okay.

Loved it

By Ravi N |

I walked into the place just because it was close to an appointment I had to kill some time for and found the place to be happy, welcoming and cheerful. Service was exceptionally quick and the food was amazing. The sweet potato hash I got with my sandwich was exceptional - completely unique. The sandwich itself was fresh and tasty. Everything considered - excellent!

Great food, service needs a little help

By peabodymac |

This restaurant has very good food -clean, intelligently sourced, low inflammation foodstuffs and delicious! Healthy great food. Prices are also reasonable and setting is very nice and big space! My complaint is that the hostesses do NOT seem to have a handle on seating people - place was half empty but told group of 4 they had to sit at bar even though during the hour we were there, plenty of tables were available. Also, servers auctioned off food and had NO idea as to who ordered what. We announced we were splitting a dessert 3 ways...and by the way the portion size was Very small... but no one brought plates to,help, with the split...Simple Service things like that need to be smoothed out. But apart from the small dessert, food is good and portions are adequate.

Quality and freshness is the focus

By Calgary_Can_Travel |

We came across this restaurant as we tried to find shelter from the rain. The décor is modern and the food is focused on fresh and healthy. My wife had one of their signature salads and I tried the flat bread pizza - both were appreciated. The place was very busy but we were seated immediately. Servers were very friendly and attentive. Great for anytime you want a healthy meal.

Delicious but pricey

By Harry |

Food is delicious and healthy 5/5. Service is good 5/5 . Ambience is lovely 5/5, bit noisy though . One of the few restaurants I have given a 5/5 . I had the watermelon mojito which could surely have used a bit more rum in it ( felt like there was hardly any rum ) , was very refreshing and tasty though. The inside out quinoa burger is also yummy, they have no bun but a quinoa based patty for the burger . The only thing I dislike is the price , for a two person meal with appetizer , drink and entree cost us $70.

Wonderful healthy lunch

By campbellc44 |

We stumbled upon this exceptional restaurant before grocery shopping. The atmosphere is awesome and very inviting. The food is creative, fresh, and flavorful. We especially enjoyed the lemon chicken soup and the pizzas. It was so good that we decided to go back for lunch 2 days later. One of my favorite healthy meals ever.

Awesome vegan food, great service

By Kapil C |

Awesome vegan food, great ambiance and excellent hospitality - especially appreciate the fantastic service from Luis at the bar! Favorite dishes: Vegan chorizo bowl, Korean noodle with tofu, Quinoa burger, edamame guacamole

It's a five no matter what part of the country you go

By ClintTraveler |

Outstanding as usual. I had the Korean noodle bowl and tomato soup. Excellent. The chicken was a little bit tough and could've been a larger portion. My wife had the grass fed burger and it looked awesome. Emma was our server and she did an outstanding job.

It’s really great food but very pricey

By gemarron |

We ordered the asparagus toast - fantastic. For our entree, my wife had the portobello mushroom soup and I had the curry soup. When the waiter was taking our order he asked what protein do you want implying it came with the meal which was like $11 each. She ordered hers with shrimp and mine with salmon. The food was again fantastic but when the bill came the upchaege was like $25 per soup and the bill like $80 we were expecting a $50 bill and shocked by it. Two days later we had take out and order with no protein and they upchaged us a fee for take out higher than the eat in amount per plate. Very disappointed and too bad since the food is exceptional.

The lead server/manager kept service running smooth

By shy_kitten |

First time we were able to a table (must be good). Good selection of fresh food with incredible flavors - Mediterranean bowl, apple-lemonade.

Nice concept but menu descriptions not right and service variable

By Geodruth |

Interesting menu and ordered a salad for me and the bison pizza for my partner. My partner doesn’t like much onion but thought the description of a tomato base with scallion (spring onion). salsa would be ok. It wasn’t. There was hardly any tomato and it was basically an onion and small bits of meat pizza. Not a disaster but what spoilt it for us was the change of attitude of the server. When she asked if everything was ok I said “mind is lovely but we weren’t expecting so much onion on the pizza. The description doesn’t say that”. She apologised but from then on her smily demeanour changed. We had to ask her to clear our plates away when she brought our coffee. So we wouldn’t return because the food descriptions aren’t right and the service isn’t great.

Great. Healthy. Overpriced

By Mrs_Vivante |

Great tasting- overpriced- healthy food at True food kitchen! The restaurant has a great vibe and very nice ambiance. Their menu has some innovative options to choose from and has a lot of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan items! In spite of the fact that everything we ordered was great tasting and up to the mark, I definitely felt like its slightly overpriced. But if you're not too fussy about spending slightly more and just want to catch up with friends over delicious healthy meals-this is the place to hit!

Good food vibrant atmosphere

By Rebel82 |

We went there due to experiences at other True Foods and was not disappointed. The food was great and healthy and the service was awesome.

Terrible service, not much better food.

By Chris C |

Kinda like a souped up sit down Honey Grow. Lots of options from pizzas to grain and poke bowls to salads and traditional entrees. I had a cucumber cooler (honey lemonade and cucumber) which was very nice. My highly recommended (by Yelpers and the waitress) charred cauliflower disappointed me - flavors were middy and there wasn't a crisp charred thing about it. There was a strong overwhelming taste that resembled peanut butter and everything was very mushy. (The next night i had a similar dish at a different restaurant, and it was night and day.) This was a terribly disappointing dish. My "sustainable sea bass" entree was just OK but this was a little overcooked and dry; although the vegetables are tender crisp like they should be. It was basically a grain bowl with fish. It was very flat flavorless and needed some citrus brightness badly This is how people who don't know how to cook make food - it shouldn't be food coming out of a restaurant kitchen. Timing from the runner was off -- I got my entree when i was half way through my appetizer. Someone should have been watching to make sure that didn't happen, It was "energetic" (read: kinda loud) and the service was really, really terrible. There was a long wait to order, there was the above-mentioned lack of proper expediting, and an unacceptable wait for bill, and another long, long wait to run my card. I was not checked in with at all to make sure things were OK, and my dishes were not cleared between courses. This place either needs to do cafeteria service, or be a full on restaurant. Right now, it's not the latter. I left a terrible tip, for terrible service. I wouldn't ever go back.

Healthy, but not so much...

By PEDROWINE |

I cannot say that I enjoyed a super dinner. Actually I went to have a proper meal but meny was limited to brunch options (it was Sunday), which is not exactly what was looking for. Rather bland food and not as healthy as published. I can find better and more attractive options nearby.

Mixed ...

By Carl Collins-McCarthy |

Not sure it is suited to the solo traveler. Although I had a reservation I felt very rushed. I placed an order for an appetizer and entree and both arrived at the same time ... I had expected a table with a reservation but was told only bar top service was available. Food was excellent, bar service great however I didn’t feel very welcomed ... I will come back on a mid week night ...

Great healthy food, but pay attention to service

By Toret8 |

I really like this place and their food is delicious. The only reason why I rate them as a 4/5 is the service. People at the reception don't even smile to greet you. The waiter brought the dessert menu together with the bill...which we understood as don't even think about it. I understand that you do that if the place is full, but it was empty. Bringing the menu and the bill at the same time is just an invitation to leave as soon as possible. When leaving, the waiter didn't even greet us and the lady at the reception didn't even replied to our polite good byes. The same way you hear "people leave the boss, not the job", people may not return to a great restaurant, just because of bad service. I really like the food, it's very healthy and diverse, but I wanted to write about the service, because it's the second time I experience this. Keep preparing the delicious food you serve, but smile more, enjoy your job at the reception or look for another one that brings you more joy...and please, never bring the dessert menu with the bill.

So good!

By OnslowBath |

We went here twice in our 1 week in Chicago; the first time by accident, for a late lunch, just the 2 of us. I had the Salmon, my son the Moroccan Chicken, with a delicious NZ Sauvignon “The Crossings”. Superb meal, fresh, tasty and lovely flavours. We returned 6 days later for our last dinner in Chicago, this time 4 of us. Again superb meal, we shared starters of Cauliflower and Brussel Sprouts, both really tasty and followed this up with 4 different mains; Salmon, Moroccan Chicken, Penang Curry and Ancient Grain feast, again with the Sauvignon. Place was very full and we were relieved to get a table. Again fresh tasty food, great flavours, lovely atmosphere. If we are ever back in Chicago we will go again. Really good.

Terrible service and unappetizing food

By IM Doe |

On 6/9 around 2pm we went in for brunch. Our experience was mired with poor, low service, confusion, and food quality issues. We were served by Sawyer and she kept disappearing. Making it impossible to address the issues we were happening in a timely and effective manner. Persons 1 & 2 both ordered blueberry pancakes. Whoever brought out the one order gave 1 the pancakes and 2 the order of sausage. After a few minutes of person 2 sitting with just the 1 sausage on the plate, we track down a hostess who goes to find our server. I point out that this lone sausage is now cold and he still hasn’t gotten his pancakes and try to hand her the sausage and she refuses then says she only had 1 order of pancakes (despite confirming the order before walking away.) I correct her after a little back and forth so now we wait for the second order + a new sausage. The rest of the for trickles out. Pancakes come, no syrup & no Sawyer to be seen. Espresso martini comes, tastes like water & no Sawyer to be seen. Two tofu scrambles come and they’re cold. We have no water & still, no Sawyer. Thai peanut noodle bowl comes, missing shrimp but again, Sawyer is no where to be found so we sit waiting to even be able to address the issues and it took forever. The shrimp came (4 cold shrimp in a bowl). Overall, we were thoroughly disappointed in the quality of food and lack of service we received.

Amazing food and very healthy!

By PABLO G |

I could eat here everyday with no guilt. The service was outstanding and every dish was delicious. Get the charred cauliflower, it is amazong! Also the edamame duplings and ancient grain bowl were great. The drink were really good, you have to try the sparkling antioxidant tea was very good. This is on my top 3 of in Chicago!

"Healthy" yes; quality...so-so

By Edge W |

We went for lunch. Vegetarians were quite pleased. Portions were fairly ample, presentation was good. We had six different meals. Wrong order was prepared for one of us and replaced in reasonable time. The food was good, but certainly not memorable, especially for the prices. As with most of the places we ate in Chicago, noise suppression is clearly a no-no. I'm not sure when loud became essential for a restaurant to be considered good, but the noise detracted from my dining experience.

Wonderful! Something for everyones diet!

By Bobbie W |

True Food Kitchen is very welcoming. It’s a bright, clean, spacious restaurant that has a menu filled with items for everyone’s diet; organic is the major plus. But they have gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, etc. Most dishes can add shrimp, salmon, chicken or tofu. There’s so many goodies, you won’t know which to pick. Below are pictures of what we ate. Too full for dessert, however, the desserts looked awesome!

Healthy, tasty food with friendly servers

By Bill B |

We ate at a True Food Kitchen in Texas when visiting there, and happened to see this one in Chicago during a recent visit. My wife had the Moroccan Chicken, which I assisted in eating. I ordered the Spaghetti Squash Casserole and although delicious, I should have added some chicken or salmon, as it was not enough for a filling meal. That is why I ate some of my wife's Moroccan Chicken. We will be going there again when in the area. Good tasting food, and they also have wines. The two meals cost us $39 before tip.

Health foody, sorta

By Gayle M |

Breakfast/brunch items strive to be healthy; however, the smallest number of calories for any breakfast entree clocked in at about 500 calories. The dishes are flavorful, but have added fats with cheeses, oils, frying, etc. Avocado advertised whole grain toast, smashed avocado, gouda and an egg... without the egg (as I ordered) it came with a thin application of avocado smashed in oil, grated unrecognizable cheese, and gobs of lettuce on top. Espresso wasn't... (some watered down strong coffee in an espresso cup, overflowing. Very busy...lots of special drinks for brunch... Indifferent server, but cheerful hosts.

Great food and celiac friendly

By Doug C |

With a recent celiac diagnosis in my house, we scrambled to find celiac friendly places for our vacation. After some research we found True Food Kitchen and it was great. My kids can be picky but this time it was clean plates all around. I’d definitely recommend for anyone, especially if you need to avoid gluten.

Delicious and healthy in Chicago

By Kelli G |

Had a wonderful lunch at True Food Kitchen today - the coldest day in this city for at least ten years! We were warmly greeted by David and served with a warm smile and great suggestions from Mosha. The food was wonderful and the tea selection was fabulous - the hot Tulsi Tea was amazing, especially on such a cold day! So glad we braved the cold and happened into this wonderful spot today!

Mixed - Food is bland, atmosphere and drinks good

By yellowgnome66 |

Ok so I didn’t know this was a chain (boo) until after I ate there. Overall , the location and atmosphere was nice. Place was clean and service was decent. The bad : the food ! It was boring ! My girlfriend a I got a pesto artichoke flatbread and the had absolutely NO flavor. It tasted fairly fresh but the thing was covered in summer squash and neither of us could pinpoint the pesto or the artichoke . In fact, I think there was only 1 sliver of artichoke on the entire thing. The pesto was a joke- no flavor at all. The color was bad. I needed to apply salt to each bite just to taste something! We felt a little taken because the pizza was literally all summer squash, which is fine - in moderation. We also tried the edamame dumplings which we agreed were better than the flatbread but still very average and texture was poor - at least they had some flavor though. The best part : the drinks !! For some reason the cocktails were actually very tasty and they came after we were done eating even though we ordered right away! We weren’t upset though because at least somebody took the time to do those right. Overall- I would not go back. Very lackluster. You can be healthy and still have flavor. I know it’s cheap but ease up on that summer squash!!

Delicious as always

By Indiana_Traveler |

We were in town for the Chicago Marathon and wanted to eat at True Food Kitchen. We made a reservation for lunch and were seated immediately. The waitress was very helpful and our food came out very quickly. True Food is always so great about accommodating gluten free requests (ask for gluten free pita with the hummus...it is amazing). All of the food was delicious. We even ordered to-go orders for dinner that night since we didn't want to be out late the night before the marathon. The waitress made sure everything was ordered at the right time so we didn't have to wait around for it. I highly suggest making reservations if you don't want to have to wait a long time to get seated. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.

A meal that makes you feel good

By Aimee E |

Went with my family after the theatre. I eat a plant based diet so I knew it was gonna be good. My teenage kids were hesitant. But, they loved everything from their pressed apple soda, hummus, tacos all the way to chocolate cake for dessert. My vegan squash pizza was fabulous. Fresh, real food. I wish they had more locations because it’s my new favorite.

Menu for all diets.

By Frances M |

Thank-you for a fantastic meal! Portions were very generous and they were delicious too. I loved the Vegan options and was so grateful that the menu catered for my meat eater husband as well as my vegan diet. They even cater for Keto (the table next to ours had asked and been served) Go Go Go.

Great place!

By ancient_mummy |

This was another place that was recommended to us by a local. We were not disappointed. Our cocktails and food were delicious and we would have ordered more had it been dinner and not lunch! Everything that went by en route to other tables looked really tempting. It was hard to make a decision. We shared the fig and onion tart, charred cauliflower, and TLT with kale salad. So good!

Stellar on every metric.

By Belfast_Sailorman |

Warm professional welcome to a palace of culinary art practiced by people who really care about the dishes they create and serve. As first time visitors from Ireland we were frankly astounded by the creativity and flavour of the dishes. We have traveled extensively in Spain and France and this place is truly outstanding. Our Server Rubin was the consumate professional; friendly disposition, helpful, attentive, and made everything he did look effortless. We will be back!

Loved it!!!

By Dennis B |

Amazing food and great service! There is something here for everyone. Very fresh and flavorful! Lots of vegan / vegetarian options. Dessert was amazing! Would highly recommend to anyone!

Ok

By L H |

After getting a voicemail threatening to cancel a reservation made only 3 hours prior unless I called to confirm, I had to wade through their phone menu, be on hold for 5 minutes, during which I was transferred twice, only to be hung up on; so they need to rethink their procedures (maybe a text system, where people can reply with one click?). Server nice, but unknowledgeable. Food fresh, overeasy egg whites too runny. Good espresso. Being health-conscious, they don't have cream for coffee, don't routinely serve butter. Spacious place (loud when crowded), outdoor seating.

I am in Love - Yum

By lauritaonvacation |

This restaurant made my trip! I think I ate here 4 or 5 times. I loved the gluten-free and vegan options. The food was delicious. The service was kind and top notch and I would highly recommend it. I did both dine in and take out and the quality was good. Until next time.

great food and restaurant

By Asgard_von_Skopje |

Enjoyed a nice evening here. The service was fast and friendly. The food (starter and main-course) was very fresh and prepared to the point. Some interesting combinations and very tasty. The restaurant is big and without a reservation we would have had to wait. Even it was crowded, the atmosphere was neither to noisy nor hectic. A clear recommendation!

Great health food

By carmen k |

This is a wonderful healthy restaurant. I really like the fact that they have many vegan options. I chose the ancient grains bowl which was amazing with all the different spices.

Wonderful ambience and food

By rpillai494 |

A friend and I dined at this place because we were both looking for healthy options in the land of steak and deep dish pizza. It was sunny and very welcoming. Green as far as the eye could see in keeping with its offerings. I had the inside out quinoa burger which was delicious. The staff were extremely welcoming and made our visit a very pleasant experience.

Great vegetarian

By KomillaS |

We went on a busy Sunday lunch, it was very buzzy and noisy. Food was good, my salad was delicious, service was good. We got place immediately but had to sit on the bars stools. All fiends were vegetarian and it was a great option.

Amazing restaurant with a Fabulous Creative Wonderful Menu!!

By muzique1960 |

I went to this restaurant and was astounded by the menu! So many creative items - most of the menu is gluten free (or can be), or vegan. You can also add Tofu, Chicken, Shrimp or Steak to any item. There are numerous soups, salads, entree items, pizzas - all very creative and delicious. There is also a marvelous selection (all tasty and some for the health conscious) of hot or cold teas! A marvelous find in the city! Close to historic churches, the Driehaus Museum, and many other sites in the city!

True to reputation

By Benjamin S |

Wow. What an amazing selection. The combinations will blow your mind. Organic in that they make sense but I had never thought of things like cauliflower and dates and mint but it works. And it’s refreshing.

Unique concept and great food

By Troou2 |

We've eaten here a few times now since they have opened. The food is really good. We always seem to gravitate to the Ancient Grains bowl which is great. I"m not a vegetarian so I add the chicken. The teas are a little sweet for me but maybe not for someone looking for a sweet drink. This place is deceptively pricey. $50 for lunch for two so if you're looking for cheap eats this is not the place.

Versatile atmosphere, clean/healthy foods

By CrystalEats |

You could have lunch here, a date, a glass of wine out w the girls....I like the casual yet clean and trendy vibe. Plenty of options for just about every diet. I’m vegan and had a wonderful avocado appetizer and a delicious vegan pizza w butternut, kale, onions, a lemon almond ricotta and sundried tomatoes. Big win.

Great Early Dinner

By Sstep23 |

We stopped here since it offered some different menu options. We all enjoyed our meals. Service was excellent. Reasonable prices. Easy walk from our hotel. Would definitely recommend!

Modern dining of high quality

By paulraw12 |

This is a spacious, light and lovely place for a snack or a meal. We had wonderful salads and juices though they serve much more. Staff are hip and charming, possibly not a place for dinner , more of a day place but you can’t be disappointed. So much better than traditional American diners

Tasty and fresh food in busy environment

By Kitn22 |

We had a light evening meal, and then some days later lunch, at this place. Returning just because the food was so good and tasty. Recommend the quinoa bowl (teriyaki). A lot of dishes can be purely vegetarian or with meat/fish added as choice. Be aware that place is very busy, with quite a bit of noise. Service ok, even though lunch outside came with less attentive service.

Really good

By McWett |

We ate here twice during our visit to Chicago. Once was for lunch and it was really terrific. We followed our waitresses recommendations and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We came back a second time for dinner and were not disappointed. You can tell by the number of people that are dining here how popular it is. While the menu is full of healthy and fresh ingredients and being inside may make you think you were in a health food store the food is as flavorful as can be. The freshest ingredients on married with unique flavors that will keep you guessing I just how they made such healthy food taste this good.

Nice evening.

By JoseSM |

It was my first time here. Nice decoration, cool ! Good ‘healthy’ food but short choice . A little bit noisy for me as we can’t have a proper conversation with your colleague. Definitely a fashion place at the moment in Chicago . Not sure will comeback ?

Fantastic dinner - For easier conversation ask for a table in the back

By rika65 |

Great organic / sustainable / farm to table food, great service, fun ambience. Interesting menu choices reflecting the season. The portions are not large, but the food is tasteful. I opted for the Moroccan chicken, delicious. My friend order delicious chicken tacos. AND - the flourless chocolate cake is a must! Reasonable prices, no rushing during the meal, overall a place I will come back too (already booked for Dec. 30th).

I like this place!

By MesaSB |

I had dinner here the last time I was in Chicago and thought it was outstanding. I know Chicago is the land of steaks and pizzas but I was not in the mood for for something a little lighter and the True Food Kitchen menu looked perfect. It has a very open floor plan and a good vibe as soon as you walk in. It felt relaxing and comfortable as soon as I walked in. The staff was friendly and the menu was excellent. I love steaks, burgers, pizza and all that but I typically eat really healthy meals and that is what I needed after flying all day. This place did not disappoint. One caveat: I had eaten in a True Food Kitchen in Austin and thought it was great, so I knew what to expect. And it did not disappoint. I had humus and lasagna....and a few beers. The portions are really generous. I couldn't even finish the lasagna because I had eaten so much humus. I highly recommend any True Food Kitchen.

Dinner with friends

Great place ,lovely atmosphere ,good crowd, friendly service. Food was delicious, I had kale guacamole and the albacore poke bowl. Great fun dinner.

True Food integrity...!!

By Mark P |

Bit of a sea change in downtown Chicago in recent years - emphasis on healthy eating done at scale - and what an audience response - West Erie's True Food kitchen full (150 + capacity), lunch and dinner - and a carefully crafted seasonal menu brilliantly delivered by staff who obviously give a damn - well done! Juices and cocktails meet the food challenge, an 'OG' (original ginger) - an absolute stand-out on the palate - well worth a visit...or in my case three...

Healthy never tasted more delicious

By Carla G |

Great place for a delicious clean meal that you will feel really good about. Lots of enticing choices make it hard to chose. We had the Brussels sprouts and shrimp cups to start and a fantastic pizza with pumpkin and dried cranberries and a tasty chewy crust. The Moroccan roasted chicken was sooooo satisfying. Try the Chia pudding or squash pie for dessert. The only downside is that the place is really noisy (has super high ceilings) if that sort of thing bothers you.

Wonderful lunch

By David20130609 |

Enjoyed two different pizzas with very thin crust. Chicken sausage and cheese and arugula were done to perfection. Nice select of drinks with special drinks.

Very dissapointed afefruit martinis

By Yvonne K |

Setting is cavernous and noisy. Ordered 2 grapefruit martinis which were sickly sweet. Was told later by a dimwit manager that " all cocktails have simple syrup". Ummmm, no they don't dear. Edamame dumplings had a baby food consistency purée inside. Good broth. Turkey burger was highly oversalted, boring bun which would have been better toasted. I asked if the burgers came in frozen , they replied no, but I'm not so sure. Pan fried cubed sweet potato contained several almost raw hard pieces. For a restaurant which endorses healthy eating, the sugar and salt use was inexplicable and unacceptable. Not recommended. There's better places around than this chain.

Unique, delicious, trendy place, great vegetarian choices.

We loved this place. Food choices were unique and creative. The atmosphere was ultra modern which the service was old fashioned: warm and friendly. Our only problem was that the some dishes were too spicy after we asked for low spices. You'll be happy you tried this unique place.

So cute.

By Paulina |

This place had the best hospitality, every waitress/waiter we had were just so friendly. The food was also very delicious and had great flavor, the ambiance is also pretty great. Will definitely return whenever we are back in Chicago.

Healthy = Yummy!

By lindsinic |

We very much enjoyed our dinner here. Cinnamon latte was delicious, steak tacos are to die for, and the guacamole appetizer was yummy. Saved the extra guac for the tacos! Tips for improvement: 1) taco entree should really have one more taco (totaling 3). 2) I got the vegetable curry entree and added chicken. It was nearly too spicy to eat, but good flavor profile. Would certainly go back next time we visit Chicago. It’s hard to find healthier food restaurants, and I’m glad we found True Food Kitchen.

It was fine

By Kwill1981 |

It was fine, but certainly not dynamic. Pretty overpriced for what you get, limited drink selection, and slow service. I appreciate what they’re trying to do (honest, sustainable food) but it just wasn’t very well executed. It was pretty empty/not crowded, which may tell you something about how the rest of the city feels about True Food.

Delicious seasonal offerings

By miss_mimi_okc |

Got a recommendation from a fellow ride share passenger, because we were having a hard time finding enticing vegetarian options beyond pizza for my daughter. Glad we took her advice. Thankfully, we made a reservation because it was packed at 7 p.m. on a Wednesday. The service was great, our waitress and ever server we interacted with were lovely. Had the kale guac to start and T.L.T and Moroccan chicken for entrees. It was complex without being overwhelmingly so. My daughter had the honey lemonade and I had the ginger margarita. Both were tangy and refreshing. We finished wirh the flourless chocolate cake. It had a crispy top and rich gooey center. The caramel and vanilla ice cream made it even more decadent.

Tasty and healthy

By YOMONOKO |

I’m not big on the health food craze. I want my food to taste good and fill me up. I stopped in here after traveling mostly because it was close to the hotel. What a treat!! I had a delicious burger that came with sweet potato hash and a kale salad. I figured the burger would fill me up and I’d just leave the rest. Took a couple of nibbles and before I knew- the plate was clean!! I then thought I’d treat myself to dessert since I ate so healthy. I had to google “forbidden black rice” to understand what came with Summer Berries. Delicious!

True food kitchen, truly good

By Flygurl1996 |

Our server made us feel completely at home even though it was our first visit. Sure knew the menu and was totally engaging. It's probably a good idea to make a reservation as your more likely to get a table with more privacy and space around it. Everything is made fresh after it is ordered. Allergies or preferences are not a problem here. We enjoyed the Fig, Onion and Gorgonzola Flathead with our cocktails. And the Panang Curry, that many reviews recommended, did not disappoint.. So velvety smooth and a taste sensation... Seasonal items are a great way to go, my husband has the fall immunity bowl.. Yummy!

Awesome food

By Marie C |

we had a lot of fun there, the staff was very friendly and welcoming. and the food... awwww... well, let's just say: it was perfect... we had an onion soup, Kale Guacamole, Wild Caught Albacore Tataki as starters and I had Seasonal Ingredient with Tuna.. and their Ginger Margharita is so mean... I wish they are in Europe too!!!!

Great food and sevice

By Chris S |

We had a lovely meal. My wife had the Salmon and I had the Spicy Penang Curry Bowl. Both dishes were delicious and our waitress (server), Kat, was great.

Heading down hill

By vox-sf |

Been in here a lot in the past year or so. I was always a little leery since it is a chain, but I liked the fact that they had some vegan items, so it was possible to go here with an omni-crowd. Now, after last night, I think that may will be my last meal. I got the Tuscan Kale Salad and a pizza with sauce and arugula. Simple. How hard could it be? Well, the salad wasn't dressed. It was just slivers of kale. Period. Second, the pizza was, I guess, spritzed with fresh lemon juice before being served, but there were a bunch of lemon seeds dotting the pizza? Are you serious? A quinoa bowl seemed to have very little quinoa. Super disappointed. If this is there new standard, I give them a year, two tops.

Great healthy casual dining

By Mark S |

I stopped here while my wife and daughters we’re shopping on Black Friday. Great open air atmosphere, actively noisey but not too loud. Selection is wide. Server at the counter/bar was very attentive and helpful. When you ask for recommendations and they give you three and none of them are the highest price menu item you usually know you’re getting good choices. Ancient grains with shrimp was excellent. My only real issue is the pricing, and I know it’s Chicago where things in general are a little more expensive, but $32 plus tip for a quick lunch with no alcohol is a little pricey for the portion size which was adequate but small. If I were to do it again I would do it for dinner.

Good food great service :-)

By MWeisensel |

Excellent service at this nice place with an interesting menu. Food was obviously very fresh and tasty. Not a huge fan of paying by q code ... There may have been another option but I did not ask. All in all, thumbs up!

SO good!

By Susan C |

Amazing lunch. Bright space with tons of tables but not overly noisy. Attentive, friendly waitstaff and delicious, healthy food - what's not to love?

Urban Healthy

By Loretta231 |

Fantastic menu, food and flavors. Restaurant is associated with Dr. Andrew Weil who has promoted a common sense diet for years. Food is really clean and super-tasty. They have a nice selection of cocktails and mocktails (the ginger one is very good). Starter appetizer of 3 spreads and dips for the table was perfect beginning. Entrees are accompanied by a lot of veggies. Place that pleases both your taste buds and conscience. Even though you've had a full meal you feel as if you've eaten clean and quasi-healthy food. Flourless chocolate cake is also very good.

A healthy - eating chain who took Chicago by storm

By Phayao13 |

Casual organic, not a bad evening.Varied menu that satisfies ,excellent options for vegetarians, vegans, gluten free. Fresh ,natural and cool.

Even the martinis are healthy

By Cord-69 |

My wife and I had a nice dinner at True Food Kitchen on a Thursday night. The space is open floorpan concept, with a large L shaped room and a central bar surrounded by windows onto the street. It is not very fancy, and reminded my wife of an upscale cafeteria. I didn't have quite the same impression, and thought that the ambience was nice. Fresh produce is visible near the food prep area, which is a nice touch (you can see what you are going to be eating). The atmosphere was quite comfortable and despite the liveliness of the room, the noise level was moderate making it pretty easy to have a normal conversation. The waiter was very pleasant and helpful. The menu has multiple options for those with sensitivities, allergies, and preferences (i.e. gluten-free, vegan, etc). Everything from the cocktails to the entrees and deserts was very healthy. For example, we had martinis made with beet juice. The entrees had ancient grains and wholesome protein options. We both though the dinner was very flavorful and appropriately portioned. Afterwards, you feel like you ate something good for yourself. I would recommend this place for a low-key healthy dinner.

A Wonderful and Healthy Lunch

By kim p |

Yesterday my friend and I went to True Food Kitchen in Chicago. It was the first visit for both of us so we weren't sure what to expect. We were immediately pleased with our choice for lunch. We were greeted by our server, Amber, who was not only delightful and efficient, but also had a very positive spiritual essence about her. She introduced us to the menu and shared her favorites. She offered to let me sample a wine before ordering to be sure it was one I liked. If you are having a bad day, just stop in here because the trendy music and healthy menu will get you feeling better immediately. It is apparent they are passionate about healthy food options here and the menu is diverse enough to please any sophisticated palate. We really loved it.

American Spin on a Brasserie

By Bill L |

The ambience reminds us of a French brasserie. The dining room is large with high ceilings and the din is almost overbearing for mature diners. Of course, we were there on Mother's Day when lots of children were present, including two of our grandchildren, which may explain some of the noise. There is a diverse menu of items with an emphasis on healthy ingredients. There is also a large wine and cocktail menu. We started with a chicken tortilla soup that our 2 year old grandson devoured, as well as a plate of guacamole, olive and hummus spreads; the chips and pita slices were inadequate in number for the size of our group and the amount of the spreads. Some had custom pizzas that were more like flat breads and several had fish tacos that had a very spicy slaw on top. The food and service were both acceptable, but not outstanding. Portion sizes were on the smaller side, perhaps keeping with the healthy eating theme. We won't be rushing back, but our millennial children and grandchildren probably will.

A great place for a healthy and tasty meal

By Maureen_Vancouver |

This is a really nice restaurant to eat at with well-made, healthy options. I walked in on a Wednesday before Thanksgiving and there were plenty of open tables. The server was kind without being overbearing. It was clean, bright and spacious. I would recommend this place for anyone as there were groups, families with young children and couples. I walked there and back from Gold Coast without any issues around 7pm and the window shopping along the way passed the time.

Great-tasting food

By Jmer Go |

The restaurant was walking distance from where we stayed in Chicago. It has a nice ambience, with an open and spacious concept. We were greeted right away as soon as we entered. We had Kale Guacamole, Korean Noodle (with tofu) bowl and TLT (tempeh) burger. Superb customer service and the food was excellent.

Good lunch

By fremont5 |

This was our first visit to this True Food location. Service was good. Chicken and sausage pizza lacked flavor. Chicken salad was decent. The Pesto pizza with shrimp was great, but expensive.

Whole food-focused

By April R |

We were seated in the section with self-ordering using a QR code (because we didn’t make a reservation). After scanning and checking out, we waited about 30 minutes and finally discovered by asking a server that our 3 separately made orders had not processed (glitch with the software they said). The manager kindly stopped by and took our order, which we received after about 25 minutes more. Our group had curry, tofu, shrimp, cauliflower, and a grains dish with chicken added. Our main takeaway was that a visitor would want to know to look through *all parts* of the menu to see option to add protein to the largely vegetarian-appearing selection. The restaurant seemed a bit short-staffed as many tables were not cleared during the 90 minutes we were there. Prices were average.

Best Food and the best service

By Chantel L |

This was one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Dylan our waiter was amazing and gave incredible service. Thank you so much.

Amazing drinks

By Danielle A |

As a healthy place I didn’t even know if they served drinks? Not only is the food so great but the drinks are amazing! The skinny margarita is one of the best I have ever had and order the tuna tataki. The service was so professional the the atmosphere is amazing!

Always the Best Meal

By mlesser1 |

We go to True Food Kitchen in Atlanta, so while travelling to Chicago we went... It was the day the the spring menu was being presented... not many changes from the winter edition, but some interesting new items ... I always recommend the Lasagna Bolognese and my spouse has one of the salads, but changes to Kale. Dr. Andrew Weil is the original founder, but Oprah is now the major shareholder... both food and service are excellent.

Top Chicago Dining Experience

By photowil |

Organic, all scratch-made, clever but unassuming menu, great ambiance and design, and service that sets a standard for any restaurant are just a start for True Food Kitchen. Discovering True Food Kitchen was pure random luck for me; I was walking to another place when the open, well-designed interior and kitchen caught my eye. The menu had me hooked. The food and the service made my week. I'm somewhat disappointed in myself for not finding this place sooner as I stay in Chicago for days at a time, but once I discovered it, I returned for a second visit within a couple days (I had to resist actually going back the next night.) On that second visit, I ordered a lot of food, two glasses of wine, and the bill with generous tip was still pretty reasonable, comparatively. Highlights: Lemon-ginger tea, fig tart, chicken fennel pizza, squash pie. But whatever you get, you'll be re-calibrated on what Chicago has to offer.

Wow what a burger !

By InnActive |

My wife is both gluten and dairy intolerant so we tried this spot and I too ordered from their menu. Wow , was their burger ever good....moist and delicious. My wife enjoyed her lunch too. Would go back if we are ever in the city again. So much choice too.

Plates were left clean

By Elizabeth R |

Food was amazing! Definitely going again! There were plenty of vegan options, love the concept that their menu has seasonal items.

Surprisingly Great

By abroadwithashley |

This is a national chain, but still somehow manages to be a step above. The menu changes seasonally so it’s difficult to make food recommendations, but if you like good food, then you’re likely to enjoy many of the options available. We were pleased with the vegan/vegetarian selection.

Perfect

By _S1278FY |

perfect!! Dishes with delicate flavors. On an equally excellent dish. I would like to eat there every day😄

Maybe healthy but tasteless

By emailuch |

The place is certainly very popular as it was packed. I was drooling over the thought of trying some of their carefully designed dishes. To my disappointment everything looked great but was simply tasteless. I kicked off with edamame dumplings followed by Moroccan chicken. Well, I could possibly forgive them no flavour in dumplings but Moroccan chicken should have it all. Anyone who’s ever tried genuine Moroccan cuisine knows exactly what I’m talking about. This chicken had nothing to do with plethora of Moroccan spices and flavours. Shame on you True Food Kitchen. That flavour was not true. It was flat as Chicago. I’m sorry but I won’t go there again.

Hurray colour at last

By yogi1958 |

Fantastic service by our server Kayla, great to get some proper food with antioxidants. Vegan choices are great, tasty and satisfying. Colour at last with great flavours.

Healthy Choices

By Kevin B |

My family and I ate at this True Food Kitchen during a vacation trip here and enjoyed our meals on a warm August evening in the Windy City. The portions were fairly reasonably sized, although this varied among the entrees. I really liked the Lasagna Bolognese, which had delicious cheese and fennel chicken, but was the smallest sized portion overall. The Korean noodle dish was very spicy, but this was expected, given the kimchi in it. Surprisingly, the Pad Thai was also quite spicy, something we have not experienced with many other Pad Thai dishes we have ordered elsewhere. My 17 yr old was very happy with her of Teriyaki bowl, which was apparently very mildly seasoned. The Honey Lemonades we ordered were a bit weak on the lemon flavor, however. Prices were not inexpensive, but the place has a very nice ambiance to it, with an open wall that joins up with the outside dining area, in this busy area off of State Street in the River North neighborhood of Chicago. We were seated immediately, despite being walk-ins. Our meals were brought out in a reasonable period of time. The restrooms were very clean and modern. Overall, I can recommend True Food Kitchen to those looking for casual, upscale, healthy food choices (Dr. Andrew Weil, the noted healthy living guru, is co-founder of this chain).

Great concept dining experience

By maintcoder |

First let me warn you... this place is loud. It may have been the day we visited, but it was nigh impossible to have a conversation with the person seated next to you. The service was challenged by the size of our group, so take that into mind as well. But for a fun, people watching, dining experience with a few friends with delicious eats and cocktails - stop on in.

Great Great Food and Service

By globaljoan |

For a healthy food place, you would be amazed at the inventiveness of the dishes and their great flavors. This will become one of my regular haunts in a city known for its food.

Good service & ok food, not worth the price

By Laura Marie |

After enjoying a truly delicious, delightful meal at the True Food Kitchen in Austin, I was excited to try this location in Chicago. Unfortunately, the overall experience left me a bit disappointed. Because I was dining alone, I found a seat at the bar. Despite the dinner rush, I was informed that the wait for a table was only 15 minutes. However, I quickly found an empty seat at the bar without any wait. The service was excellent, and I never felt like I needed to flag down the bartender. Unfortunately, the food was hit-or-miss. The roasted cauliflower was not at all what I expected. While still good, the flavor and consistency were a bit of a throw-off due to the odd tahini sauce, and it was inconsistently cooked, with some pieces charred black and others lightly roasted. The sea bass was a much better dish. It was perfectly prepared, and all of the flavors blended together complimentarily. There were many other dishes on the menu that I didn’t have an opportunity to try. While they looked intriguing, after a mediocre first experience, I don’t think that I will be in a hurry to rush back. However, I do think this restaurant could be worth a second chance.

Great concept restaurant.

By Bermanda |

I had two meals at this location very convenient to the Dana hotel, great food clean ingredients, many healthy options and plenty of choices to choose from. Nice tunes!

Good food and fantastic service

By Sam S |

Ate here solo after stumbling across it. Sat at the bar and the service was 5 star. Food was clean tasting and delicious. Had the Kale Guacamole and the quinoa bowl. Definitely a good pick

VEGETARIAN PLUS DELIGHT

By hemingwayscantina45 |

This vegetarian restaurant was a real real good surprise. My veggie wife thought it was the best she has ever had in Chicago. My non veggie sandwich and kale salad was delicious.Bday cake was complimentary and tasty.[Drinks pricey of course]Service impeccable and atmosphere was exceptional. Will return...

Disappointing 2nd visit

By DEMcC |

I recommended myself and colleagues eat here as there were a couple of vegetarians amongst us and I’d found it pleasant on my visit to Chicago last year. I have to say on this occasion the service was poor and somewhat surly. Our main courses arrived despite me still eating my starter. No apology or comment, the plates were just dumped onto the table and the servers walked away. To add insult to injury I’m now going through my credit cards receipts for the office and have found, despite STILL leaving a healthy tip, that my card has been charged more than my authorisation. I have four more business trips to Chicago this year and unfortunately will no longer go or recommend TFK.

Excellent discovery

Light and healthy

By Lauren R |

We purposely came here the night before the Chicago marathon to get a light and healthy meal for my husband who was running the next morning. It was a Saturday night and understandably very busy. We were sat at the bar and the staff working behind it were very friendly and helpful. We had butternut squash soup, edamame dumplings and grilled salmon. Everything tasted wonderful and was cooked perfectly. Restaurant was buzzing and it was very nice to sit in. There was lots to choose from on the menu and I would like to go back if ever back in Chicago.

Healthy and delicious

By ech_zed |

Love this restaurant for food. They make every dish so delicious and fresh. My husband had the poke bowl and chicken skewers and I had the sausage sandwich which I discovered half way in that it was not gluten free. This was my fault because I didn’t ask. Then we ended off with a key lime dessert. It was ok. Servers were friendly

A Chicago fave

By Jem6 |

This place is so clean and fresh. The staff are very attentive and friendly. The food is delicious. I love that they have plenty of vegan options on the menu and they list calories for everything. You can add tofu as a protein option. They also have the best green tea. One of the best healthy lunch spots in Chicago.

Great tasting fresh food and drink!

By ellen q |

I stopped in while traveling for work and ate at the bar. I loved the food so much I returned the next day with my colleagues. The cocktails were very refreshing and light.

Poor service but has gluten-free

By tnwalkermom |

Ordered RAW veggies with hummus and guacamole and both times they brought us roasted veggies ... rather hard to dip into hummus! Ordered 3 gluten-free pizzas ... got non-GF. (We had to point it out to the waiter.) One person ordered grilled chicken with their salad ... didn't have it. Waiter even argued it was under the lettuce! (Which it was shown it wasn't) Now the food: Pizza had too much tomato paste and very little cheese. Steak in the tacos was tough. "Grilled chicken" that was brought out for the salad was cold. Moroccan chicken entrée was good; however, menu needs to state it has curry spices as some in our party would've hated it. Hummus was good but too spicy for the children. Guacamole was good. Fish tacos were good. Gluten-free pita bread delicious (Like Biaggi's Italian Restaurant.) Actually, the best thing we ate! Great that they use good quality food just wish the server and/or kitchen wouldn't make mistakes.

Not That Great

By Sunshine816155 |

Nice atmosphere but incredibly overpriced. Food was fresh with nice presentation but not really tasty. Bartender did not know how to make a Manhattan but was charged $24 for a subpar drink. Disappointing. Waiter referred to my husband as “boss”. Not sure what that meant. Would not return or recommend but a overall a nice clean place.

Their recipes are all wrong.

By shallow_shoals |

We've had Shrimp Tacos, Beef Tacos, Tuscan Kale Salad, Seasonal Vegetable Salad, the boooooring Chicken Mozzarella Panini with no mozzarella on a "housemade pita" pancake and Korean Noodle Bowl over 2 visits. These people do not know how to use herbs or spices. What should taste Italian has absolutely no flavor, someone spilled the red pepper in the Korean noodles, The Kale Salad dressing was all lemon juice and the Veggie Salad was augmented with mushy yams (we think they were yams). We can't even recommend this to Vegetarians.

Clean, Fresh, Low Cal Food

By William M |

Wow how fresh and low cal was my Teriyaki Quinoa Bowl with an addition of steak. So tasty so fresh. My partner had the Lasagna Bolognese.and it was a real treat.

Repeat customers solidified

By Labelleian |

We recently had an experience at True Foods that was not all that great. I had sent a private note to the location expressing what had happened. The General Manager, Scott Bradley, reached out to me directly to speak about the situation. Scott then reserved a table for myself, my partner, and our two friends and invited us down for dinner to apologize for our poor experience from out previous visit. Scott went above and beyond to cater to us and to make sure that we had a fantastic evening and experience. This type of customer service is hard to come by with larger restaurants, Scott was open to hearing all of our feedback. I would highly recommend coming here for any type of event; dinner, brunch, date night. Also, we keep coming back for the Apple Jack cocktail! Perfect on a cold winter night. Looking forward to our next visit.

Good food, good service, nice atmosphere

By Freja Kidmose K |

A delicious meal, lovelyly needed with food made from scratch. We shared some pizzas that were used some delicious raw materials and which were delivered is incredibly high level of service.

Not Impressed

By Elizabeth D |

The Ancient Grain Bowl with added tofu was a big disappointment. The bowl was swimming in ?2 sauces that overwhelmed the entire dish. Roasted sweet potatoes were not cooked properly and maintained an unwelcome crunch. I don't believe in throwing food out but that's what happened to this dish. Holly, our waitress cheerfully checked in near the end of the meal to see if we wanted any boxes to take our leftovers home. When I told her mine was awful, she replied that it is a "very filling dish"! When I told her is was swimming in sauces and was inedible, she said nothing. No adjustment on bill, no offer to bring something else.

Yummy!

By mlr10c |

This restaurant was very nice. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. I got my food very quickly. I had the Inside Out Quinoa Burger. I made a reservation, it was fairly busy for a Thursday, so I recommend that.

Delicious healthy food!

By Suzanne M |

The day after eating deep dish pizza, we were searching for something a little healthier! True Food Kitchen was the perfect find!! Delicious healthy meals combined with friendly service and great wine! Their salads are absolutely delicious!!

Yummy and Healthy

By Lhaz |

I’ve always enjoyed Dr. Andrew Weil’s articles on living well, aging gracefully, and eating healthy. When I had the opportunity to treat a dear friend who recently became vegan, I took her here, and we’re so very glad we did! We ordered a vegan kale chips appetizer, a vegan pizza, vegan quinoa bowl, and vegan strawberry rhubarb with ice cream for dessert. All were fresh and delicious! The dessert could have used just half of whatever sweetener was mixed into it. Overall, a terrific experience with terrific service from our waiter. Can’t wait to return!

True Food - accurate!

By Anthony |

Great food and service - try the edamame guacamole, cauliflower, chicken sausage pizza, salmon and probably everything else.

Fresh and good food!

By CPCTraveler |

Spacious location, airy and green. Servers were warm and gracious. Food was great; my wife got a good vegan, gluten-free meal and I thoroughly enjoyed the turkey burger. Mocktails were excellent.

Healthy mindful yummy finds

By Alex M |

Tried this place with my mom after working all day. We enjoyed a lovely glass of organic wine, margarita pizza, and the Korean noodle bowl. There’s a wide variety on the menu with vegan/vegetarian friendly options as well. Everything is made in house from scratch and it was delicious. The service took a little while given everything is made in house, but absolutely worth it.

Everything wonderfully good and attractive!

By Joanne B |

I went there twice for dinner in the same week. Both experiences were just perfect. Our servers: Terence and Marcus were helpful with the menu, knowledgeable with wine suggestions and totally adorable! The food is healthy, tasty and beautifully presented. The decor and the ambiance, music and all, were just right. I will definitely go back when I visit Chicago again. Thanks for the great concept!

I think the title says it all, but TA requires me to write a minimum words to be legitimate. If you are a vegan, Heaven. More vegetarian option. Some carnivore meals

Great lunch and cocktails

It was across the street from our hotel and had gluten free options for my husband. There were lots of options for both of us and they had great drink options also.

True foods is a high quality restaurant. Farm to table atmosphere with quality food and a great variety . Love the Dumplings, Chicken salad and bowls... We frequent often as it is close to our home.

Popular place for new tastes

By James T |

Highly rated for a reason. Fantastic refreshers; I had Medicine man - poorly named because it was anything but medicine tasting. I would definitely recommend! My bride had the lemonade - okay. I had the Artisan bowl with tofu. Don't roll your eyes - it had a dozen interesting flavors, textures and a great presentation. Great place for the adventuresome palate. Make your reservation or be prepared to wait a long time.

if you are looking for a nice breakfast or brunch restaurant, this is worth a stop! Everything of this restaurant matches so perfectly! The food, the interior, the staff, the staff's dresscode, the open kitchen, the homemade recipes,... Visiting True food kitchen becomes a total experience. We have had blue berry pancakes, watermelon homemade lemonades, sunrise bowl and a bright eyes juice. It all tasted delicious! You will not regret your visit!

We love True Food so glad it came to Chicago!

By Flavia_travel |

We love True Food. We had been many times in the west coast. So glad it came to Chicago. Favs: bowls - all of them, salads, edamame dumplings and burger. The non-alcoholic drinks are great too. I could go everyday and the space is beautiful and airy.

My Go-To Local Restaurant

By Globaljoan |

If you love to eat incredibly delicious healthy food, then this is the place. The ambiance is wonderful. They have a wonderful variety of dishes that you are not going to find anyplace else. LOVE their salads and cauliflower dishes especially.

Delicious & Well Thought Out Dishes

By CrystalEats |

Delicious food, knowledgeable staff. Ordered a vegan dish and gluten free dish and they were careful to note both allergies. Food was delicious and well presented. Upscale casual, business suits and casual wear are both common, open space w good energy.

At Last!! Fresh and Different

By sydneywanda |

The crowds and buzz says it all!! Food must be good and it is. Tried miso eggplant , Asparagus Toast and fried cauliflower to start. Too much food for two considering mains to come but the asparagus toast was a stand out To follow we had bowls - Pad Thai with side of seared salmon and grain bowl with steak. Very well executed dishes. The pad Thai was better than in a Thai restaurant. We sat at the bar and the entertainment was great. Never seen so many cocktails being made!!

Good and Healthy Food

Service good, atmosphere good. Very much enjoyed the food and the chance to eat healthily. Will return.

Delicious, as always!

By Indiana_Traveler |

We come here every time we're in town. And, as always, the food did not disappoint. The service was excellent as well. We had their chia limeade drink (highly recommend), the hummus (also amazing), and the spaghetti squash casserole (I added chicken sausage to mine and it was amazing). This is by far one of my favorite places to eat. Great atmosphere and amazing food!

My soul needed some REAL food....

By AbbyCorrine |

After being in Chicago for three days, my body needed some real food. Thank goodness we found True Food Kitchen. I walked in and I knew we were in the right place. The Good Earth Kale Cob was exactly what I needed after days of partaking in other Chicago delicacies. Even my husband who can stomach a lot thoroughly enjoyed the Ancient Grains bowl and commented on how much better he felt after eating it then say the deep dish pizza the night before. Right? The restaurant is so beautifully decorated with greens and wood accents. The staff was so welcoming and friendly. A perfect evening spent concluding our vacation in the great city of Chicago. A message to Corporate- when are you coming to Raleigh?!?!?

Good Vegetarian Options

By nessren13 |

Great selection of food and several vegetarian options. The ingredients were fresh and the food was very flavorful. Staff was friendly and helpful in answering questions about the menu. I would certainly dine here again. Prices were reasonable given the quantity, quality, and location.

Fresh, healthy & super good

By AnniK_K |

We came here for lunch and were very impressed with the food. It's all made from scratch and can therefore be adjusted to your wishes. They have tons of great veggie options, as well as vegan and gluten friendly items. The service was great as well.

Pleasant space, great food

By ScienceThriller |

Enjoyed Sunday brunch. We had a reservation but it didn't look like people were waiting. Service was good (hard to find in this immediate post-pandemic environment). If I had someone who could prepare food like this for me all the time, I'd be a vegetarian.

Dining experience

By lulubird487 |

If you're lucky enough to be seated near the kitchen area, you can enjoy watching the staff prepare ingredients and meals. The menu is great for vegetarians and vegans, with a few items for folks that want some other options. Our server was VERY courteous, friendly, and helpful. Our food was very good and the muffin, for dessert no less, was served warm.

Unique and Fresh

By ejandr1 |

The drinks and entres are so original and filling. I had never experienced a toasted mulberry in a salad but that ingredient was just one of an amazing combination of seasonal variety in this marvelous salad. It is such a pleasure to experience the creativity of these healthy choices.

Amazing Vegan Food!

By Olivia C |

Such an amazing spot for vegans with so many options! I had the Vegan Double Cheeseburger which was the best vegan burger I’ve ever had! They make everything in house so the double patties were homemade and they were amazing! They were made from quinoa, beetroot and other vegetables but was so tasty! It had vegan cheese inside which was really nice with a relish and tomato and lettuce! The seeded bun was so nice aswell. It came with either salad or sweet potato and I chose the sweet potato and as someone who doesn’t usually like sweet potato they were delicious! Really chewy and not mushy or too sweet! Everything seemed so fresh and nutritious! The portions were very decent! My mum had the salmon which came with veg and quinoa rice which she loved so if you are a meat eater or non vegan I would also recommend! The only thing that let the meal down was the dessert. I ordered the vegan strawberry cheesecake. I was so excited at first because it was such a big portion but the taste of it was horrible. It wasn’t sweet at all and tasted very bitter with a horrible texture. Would not bother with dessert next time. The vibe of the resturant is great. It’s so cosy yet has a real modern feel. It has a bar and tv so is more relaxed but the resturant also feels more up market. Staff are really friendly too. I love the ethics of this restaurant. Everything is ethically sourced and good for the environment. The other vegan options are stir fry salads and they also had a pizza with mushrooms and spinach which I was tempted to try as it looked delicious! Would love ti return and I’d say is one of the best dinner evening resturants for vegan food in downtown Chicago!

Promised My Daughter I’d Eat Here!

By Terese C |

OMG, I want to eat here every night! My daughter ate at one in Austin and raved about it. When we were here, she insisted we eat here. It’s a very large space and is decorated quite nicely. We sat at the bar as our friend was already there. She & her husband are foodie people, so I was a bit concerned they had not heard of this place let alone eat there! The bar runs a major part of the length and the bartender was quite busy though he waited on us rather quickly. We ordered 4 different plates and shared them all. We ordered the Farmers Market Crudités and loved both dips and the veggies were very fresh! Yum! The Organic Tuscan Kale has superb flavors and went well worth our other dishes. We asked for chicken sausage on our spaghetti squash dish and it was divine! We were quite satisfied and would highly recommend you to eat here if you’re in the area! We’ll be back.

Must Go To Restaurant

By Nathaniel J |

John is a really good server! I truly enjoyed him alot myself and guest. I highly recommend the Brussels sprouts & cauliflower for appetizers or a part of your meal if you like! Very cool restaurant and great service‼ Now what could have been better is that for me, both the cauliflower and Brussels sprouts could've been served hotter even my entree that I love, actually one of my favorite dishes here could've been hotter coming out‼ it was more warm (closer to the lukewarm side frankly) ‼ What made my experience amazing was our server, John please ask to see him when you come and visit‼‼

Delicious

Shared a quick business dinner at this spot. Easy to find something for all types on the menu - tried the Korean bowl and the margarita pizza - both were delicious. Enjoyed a great glass of wine as well. Service was on par. Highly recommend

Secret Ingredients Sugar and Salt.....

By MademoiselleMT |

We came to True Food via recommendation, sadly its nothing special. While the menu and concept advertise and promote healthy eating - organic, vegetarian, GF etc. The sugar and salt laden food and drinks do not!!! We both ordered Thai Basil Grapefruit Martinis which surprisingly had simply syrup added, resulting in a sickly sweet cocktail. This was not listed under ingredient components. Baby food anyone..... please order the Edamame Dumplings since that whats inside. As for the Grass Fed Burger, the bun was not toasted, the meat was undercooked, there was no parmesan, the umani was quite salty and the arugula was wilted. In addition, our table had a view of the kitchen and our food was ready and waiting for pick up for about 5 minutes plus. Obviously no longer hot. Many of the sweet potato cubes for my side dish where either very undercooked or raw since they were extremely hard. Thankfully I didn't break a tooth! The 'green' concept decor was nice, but this place was SO LOUD that you couldn't even think clearly. Lots of staff but none seems to know what is going on, what to do or anything else about the restaurant or menu, (if you have questions), our waiter included. And my goodness, If you ask to speak with a manager...... well let's just say my dog is much smarter! No need to go back, better healthy eating options elsewhere.

Outstanding vegetarian restaurant

By BobAmick1954 |

I had an opportunity to dine here last week based on the recommendation of my hotel's concierge. My waiter was knowledgeable and made a number of excellent recommendations. I began with the Shitake Lettuce Cups and they were excellent and almost a meal onto themselves. I followed this up with the Margherita pizza -- the crust was thin and light and the toppings were good. I enjoyed it but it wasn't the greatest margherita pizza I've ever had. Don't get me wrong... it was good but I though it was slightly light on the toppings. I finished my meal off with the flourless chocolate cake and it was the bomb: rich and firm and delicious. If you are a vegetarian and are looking for interesting meals then True Food Kitchen is a good choice.

Eco conscious, vegan unlike any other!

Impressed with their flavors, and health options. The vegan burger is not beyond or impossible or bean, it’s totally different. Their sides are a breath of fresh air. We also got the pesto pasta, the best I’ve ever had, barely reminiscent of pesto as we all know it. The specialty drinks like the matcha horchata and kale aid were so good, glad they weren’t fountain.

Classy

By Carley O |

This was a truly great dining experience! It was fancy, but relaxed, and we have a 11 year old, a 13 year old, and a five year old and weren’t out of place. There were a lot of professionals and seniors as well. We went on a Saturday night and there was a 30 minute wait, but we enjoyed walking around the mall’s shops. We got an appetizer and each our own meal, they were all impeccably cooked, plated, and served. It is an overall classy place and dining experience.

Good option

Very good option for a healthy lunch, the dishes are cooked at the moment and the quality is good. I appreciated the open kitchen view.

First time and this is already a favorite

Absolutey terrific. Very nice interior decor, clean, delicious food. Our server Conner was so knowledgeable and directed us to his favorite dishes.....roasted cauliflower and Poke bowl....which are now our favorites. Everyone is polite and professional. The food is a smaller portion, but was more than enough for us. It felt like we were eating healthier...no sense that anything was overly salted and everything tasted fresh.

Good Food, Good Ambiance!

I love the menu of True Foods. You can sample many items on the menu and still feel replenished. The food is tasty and healthy for you! I have been to the one in Chicago and Atlanta. Very nice experience!

No service, food not even cooked!

Really really bad service. Entree arrived and had not even been heated up —- Outrageous!! Manager never came by to apologize. Very awkward situation when out on business…will definitely not return here!

Good food, service could be improved

I have eaten at TFK elsewhere and have found the food to be consistently good; this location has a similar menu to that in La Jolla where I had dinner last month. Decor is also very much the same - high ceilings, clean lines, simple furnishings. Service on this evening was quite slow and not well-coordinated. It took a long time to get water, even after I requested it. Our server was pleasant but perhaps overloaded. We split two veg bowls, one with tofu. Both were very tasty. The menu gives information on dietary components, which I find to be helpful. One nice thing about TFK is that a vegetarian or vegan can get a delicious meal but omnivores can have grass-fed beef, (non-organic) chicken, fish and seafood. Prices are reasonable and they have a good selection of wine and beer.

Great selection. Food seems really conscientiously prepared. Kind and patient staff (I heard one of the servers going through painfully minute discussions with another diner. Really amazing.). Great to be able to go somewhere that allows healthy food and drink choices to be a fundamental priority.

Interesting place

Diverse menu, which seems to change seasonally. Lots of options, including vegan and vegetarian dishes. Everything seemed fresh and was well-prepared. Top notch service. Good wine and cocktail selection. Good for large groups.

Tasty Food But....

By Deepti111 |

I popped up at this restaurant as i was waiting for my turn at Chinese consulate across the street. It was Monday and due to chinese new year place was crowded and had long lines. I was hungry and wanted some food that was fresh, fast and fun. I have read the reviews and I have been meaning to come as it is co-founded by Dr. Weil!!!! I sat down and a nice server came to my my table. I was impressed by the server's willingness to help me. I wanted just veggies and nothing else. I ordered Charred Cauliflower. It was delicious but way too small for my appetite. Of course it is Appetizer. I requested the server to make me a stir fry of which ever veggies they could put together and hold back the roots and Kale.... Now I got my previous order super fast I didn't fuss about my urgency to be back before the consulate closes. I called by waiter 10 minutes before the time and requested him to cancel the order as it was over 20 minutes since I had ordered. He went to cancel but the manager brought my order and stood over me and she put the food down in front of me to either eat the food or pack it...Now we all know how veggies taste when they are cooked and cold. I tried to take a few bites but had to pack the food (it did end up with a homeless person that day). Now dear Manager On duty....You saved $15 for your restaurant but I missed the time limit. I had to go back again, Drive long distance, pay for parking, take time off work and home front. I had to then make the third trip to pick up my passport again.... Dear manager your empathy and pushiness costed me one day plus a lot of money. How are you a manger with that energy of empathy at such as great place that serves great food? And this Lunch cost me $30 !!

Incredible Eats!

Incredible menu - amazing food. And to think it’s a chain! Wouldn’t normally even try but this is farm to table at its best! The service - great, atmosphere - warm and friendly. Plenty of gluten-free options and a really diverse, eclectic menu. This was just such a welcome surprise and we will be back!

Delicious and healthy at the same time.
