Great spot for a healthy delicious meal.

By Sofia v |

My husband and I had a really delicious lunch. I had a Mediterranean chicken pita, very flavorful with sweet potatoes and kale both were excellent. My husband had a cashew Thai bowl that was also very tasty Our server Ryan H. Was very informative and pleasant, excellent server. Nice atmosphere outside and quiet. This was our first time at this location and we will return.

Delicious Wholesome Food

By truthfultravel |

This was my first time to dine at this restaurant. It is a bright, open restaurant where the kitchen at the back is visible through this glass wall. One can see all the actions going on in the kitchen. The server was very friendly, attentive. We ordered the Vegan BUTTERSQUASH PIZZA with smoked onions, organic kale, vegan almond ricotta & dried cranberry; and the ANCIENT GRAINS bowl with miso glazed sweet potato, tumeric, charred onion, grilled portobello, snow pea, avocado & hemp seed & adding grassfed steak. Wow! Delicious, fresh! The pizza was big enough for two people. We thoroughly enjoyed the food here. Worth coming back!

Another Great True Food Experience

By cja2k1 |

This is around the 7th location we've been to, and we continue to be impressed with the consistency of the True Food brand! The food, the service, the decor are always great and we've never been disappointed with our experience at any of the True Food Kitchens. Can't wait to return!

great lunch

By HB |

Stopped in while shopping with my daughter while were were visiting from PA, and both had a simply delicious lunch. She had never tried anything like what was on the menu, and ended up getting the Korean noodles. She absolutely loved them, and out of our 4 days away this was her favorite meal. I had the tuna poke bowl and it was equally top notch. I'd eat here weekly if I could! Our server was very helpful, too!

Good selection of local flavours

By Explorerpup |

Good selection of local flavours and seasonal offerings. Meals were interesting pairings of flavours - you can order most dishes vegetarian and add proteins (tofu versus meats) which was good. Brussel sprouts were delicious.

Amazing place!

Everything was amazing from start to finish! Maddie, Hugo and Grant gave the most amazing service and make me feel welcome every time! The food is guilt free and amazing! Highly recommend!

MANY MANY COCKROACHES IN PATIO

By OneOrchidLover |

We went here for dinner and sat in the patio. Midway through dinner there were DOZENS of roaches climbing up from the seat back and going into the planter- NEXT TO MY HEAD! I hope someone calls the health department about this. When this happened I told the server who ONLY said “yeah we’re working on it” and walked away. HECK NO! NEEDLESS TO SAY, OUR DINING EXPERIENCE WAS RUINED. We got the heck out of there. Shame on this place for letting this happen and doing nothing for us to make this right.

Our new favorite restaurant in SD

By ppts |

A very healthy choice, great place for vegan, vegetarians, and meat lovers. Very healthy choices. Friend staff. Only complaint is that the place is quite loud. Their edamame potstickers and asparagus appetizers are wonderful. Highly recommend this place for quick lunch. It is located on the new part of UTC Mall, so parking is free for 2 hrs (at least as of now).

RESTAURANT WITH UNUSUAL MENU

By DarylJ552 |

True Food Kitchen is located on the second level of The University Town Center shopping center near Nordstroms. The restaurant is fairly large with seating at tables and a bar inside and on a patio outside. The menu has unusual craft cocktails, starters, soups, salads, bowls, sandwiches, burgers and entrees. This is not your ordinary restaurant however since all of the selections are said to be healthy and make you feel better. The restaurant was founded by Andrew Weil M. D. a professor of medicine at The University of Arizona and the author of many books on healthy living. I had a Juniper Rose gin cocktail which was very small for $12.00 and not really very good. For lunch I ordered the Penang Curry with chicken for $20.50. It also included green beans, sweet potatoes and other vegetables. The curry sauce was good but I didn't care for the mix of vegetables. I have ordered Penang Curry many times in restaurants all over the world and the dishes were all better than the one prepared at True Food Kitchen. If you are interested in some unusual food this is the place to go but I will not be returning.

Amazing Food / Incredible People

By Roniet B |

We ate at True Food Kitchen in La Jolla over the weekend. We'd been evacuated by the Woolsey fires and had headed down South for some calm. We stumbled upon True Food Kitchen in a delirium early that morning and at first, the hostess barely greeted or seated us but we were quickly assisted by other staff including Jeremy Bradford, the General Manager. He came to greet us and before we even knew he was the manager, we were in a great discussion with him about the current fires and then about the healing power of their food. He was so kind and caring and you could tell, truly passionate not about the mission but about the people he served and the benefits and quality of their food. The restaurant quickly filled up and it's not a surprise. Our banana quinoa pancakes were tasty and filling. I can't wait till they open more locations, especially in Ventura County. The woman at the bar was also so kind. I wish I remembered her name but she too kept checking in and had so much to offer in terms of recommendations. They made our morning.

Great food

Another regular haunt for people who enjoy clean, healthy food. For us, it’s the farm fresh eggs, especially on the weekends. I enjoy the avocado -egg scramble. Others also try eggs in a variety of dishes. Everyone agrees that the eggs just taste better at True Foods. I love medecine Man drink.Somehowi always feel better. Setting here is so pretty, servers affable too. I’ll keep com8 g back

Always reliable and consistent!

By yellow1NewJersey |

I am a True Foodie from way back and always seek out a location when traveling. I am never disappointed and always impressed. The meals are fresh, clean and healthy. The venue is always fun, clean and inviting. The staff is always friendly and professional. This location was all that and more. The setting in the Westfield UTC mall is lovely, with ample outdoor dining and wonderful heating lamps. The buzz is exciting. The staff here, from the hosts, to servers to those who brought the great food and drink were talented, friendly and fun. Thanks to all for 4 wonderful meals during our stay in La Jolla!

A favorite

By Wanderlustingforlife |

This place is a favorite for us! We love the menu, full of real ingredients with lots of organics. This location in particular is quite large, but it can get very busy and it may be helpful to make a reservation. Staff here is generally very good. They are kid friendly, and I love that they can provide a kid menu that isn't full of chicken nuggets and hot dogs!

Always Good

By Andres B |

Consistent good quality food and service. Edamame Dumplings is my favorite appetizer. Margherita is very tasteful. Seasonal pumpkin cake is delicious.

Food that’s good for you.

By Paulo N |

Great place for health food and drinks. Well trained staff that cares about their product and plenty of options for everyone.

Healthy dining yet delicious!

By Travelsites |

I have been to several locations from This franchise: Newport Beach, Pasadena, San Diego, etc. my family has dietary issues such as gluten free, vegetarian, allergies etc. This place is definitely perfect for our family and the options are all delicious. I always go with their grilled chicken quinoa salad or their soup of the day. The inside out quinoa burger with a side of hash potatoes and kale salad. It’s a great gluten free option. My husband loves ordering the kale aide drink. Service is great and accommodations can be made.

Great Sunday Brunch

By Brian |

Wanted to get to UTC to see what all the hype was about. It had been almost 10 years since my last visit. Much to my surprise, A LOT has changed. Since we hadn’t eaten yet, I wanted to introduce my mom to some healthy options, luckily True Foods has made its mark on UTC. Got a table and quickly examined the menu. I first ordered a Medicine Man, which was absolutely great and refreshing. We shared a Blueberry muffin, and WOW! Super fresh and packed with blueberries. For my meal, I ordered the Inside Out Quinoa Burger. I wanted something vegan. And ordered the sweet potatoes to go with it. Both were just what I needed. Nothing heavy, filling without feeling full, and full of flavor and energy producing nutrients. I tried some of my moms kale scramble with chicken sausage and that was really good too. Sierra was our server and she was friendly and attentive. If you’re looking for fresh, no nonsense options, then stop off at True Foods Kitchen.

Great pizza; a few too many kale & quinoa items

By 2beans2000 |

We were overwhelmed by the number of kale and quinoa items so we chose two pizzas which were both very good: one with chicken sausage and one with spinach, caramelized onions and mushroom. The spinach pizza had lemon-almond ricotta cheese plopped all around the which we chose to remove... it’s flavor didn’t add much from our perspective. Service, location, and decor were delightful.

Amazing, great food!

By RosaCasillas |

Even though we came during rush hour our service was friendly, fast, and efficient. All our entrees , appetizers , and drinks where on point! Fresh, tasty, and full of flavor!

Perfect!

By Mario P |

Absolutely a treat a UTC mall. The food is perfect and so good for you. They have a great selection of craft cocktails and a new happy hour menu.

Overall not a bad experience, but not a perfect one either!

By ledou66 |

Beautiful space, beautiful design, bright and clean! The servers were very attentive with our large group. Well designed menu and wine list. The food did not hit a high note. The Season Vegetable "salad" (warm) was too rich to serve as a main dish, the margarita pizza was nothing special. The dough was not great nor crunchy as I specially requested. We ordered a kale salad to help with the veggy salad but the amount of garlic added to the dressing spoiled the whole thing. I woke up this morning with such garlic breath.... We enjoyed the well priced wine list with some very interesting wines from around the globe. Overall not a bad experience, but not a perfect one either!

Eat healthy!

By Nita3216 |

I'm hoping this is the right location. My daughter and I ate in this restaurant that is inside the mall in La Jolla Village. They stress eating healthy here and the food is all cooked and served up very fresh. nothing is prepared in advance and frozen, But instead made while you wait. Our waiter was wonderful and made a few suggestions, one of which was the chicken tortilla soup as an appetizer. We were allowed to have a sample to try, and of course we ordered it immediately. Chicken tortilla soup is nothing I've ever had in my life but all I can say is it is creamy without the use of cream or any dairy, but instead is made of puréed tortilla chips which give it the thick creamy affect. It also has a slight bite to it so if you're into spicy, but not too bad, try the soup. You'll love it! Their menu was quite extensive and our entrées were fantastic!

Pleasantly surprised !

By DeeAnn M |

True Food is not just healthy food but tasty food. We enjoyed a nice meal out on the patio for an early dinner family gathering. The menu offers many great choices including pizza, salads, veggie dishes, small plates and full meal alternatives, although you won't find any fatty food or French fries here. The turkey burger was delicious and came with a yummy sweet potato hash, which is a healthy alternative to eating French fries. All the choices at our table were good. They do offer an early evening happy hour menu which seems to be served throughout the dining room. Our server was kind and efficient even providing a mini version of a dessert special since we were too full to eat the bigger portion size. Our True Food visit was a great dining experience from start to finish. This is a very good spot to try if you are going to be in the mall and they do take reservations. Eat large and don't feel guilty about it :-)

Wholesome and Emotionally filled mouthgasm

By ziadjureidini |

Casual chic, unpretentious, healthy wholesome food, pretty varied cuisine, I would also add that the menu is well designed in terms of nutrients. I've tried the kale guacamole, the brussel sprouts, the cauliflower with tahini, and the spicy curry, I would give them all a high five! To finish in style, squash pie and flourless Choco cake - to die for 🗣❤️ Worth every penny, I'm surely coming back! They change their menu every year and publish their old recipes in a book (the kind of place that has a high spirit bravo!)

True food is good food

By Phyllis S |

I have visited the new location for true foods twice and have enjoyed both visits. I particularly like the grilled chicken salad and the lasagna. Service was excellent and the price is very fair.

Good

By Tami M |

This place is beautiful with wonderful servers. The spaghetti squash casserole was a nice smaller portioned dish. Please consider changing the ingredients in the poke bowl! I really wanted to like this dish, but the mix of crunchy and strong opposing flavors had my palate screaming for clarity! It could be incredible if the ingredients combined together well and the sauce was more of a sweet sauce like in other poke bowls. The mushrooms were too strong. It was a very odd choice to put a ton of ginger cabbage in it. If you could start with the yummy rice & albacore tuna, then build together more complimentary items, that would be great. Or have some options to chose from. Thank you for considering this for the poke lovers of the world.

Great Food! Heads up, check your credit card statement for overcharges.

By JMJ |

Have experienced great meals at this restaurant. Last visit we had a discrepancy between the signed receipt and the credit card statement. Managers very willing to address the situation.

Failure of Success

By massoudsaghafi |

riding on the heath crave fantasy, True Foods offer healthy constructs at reasonable prices. customers feel delighted with veggies an healthy looking combinations but high demand unfortunately, comes at service cost which eventually turns us away. We ordered coffee which came arrived cold and waited for a while for cream and sugar. Food showed up later with forks for curry sauce that needed a spoon which came later when food was cold and water took several request and eventually showed up with the GM who apologized for bad behavior! service is juvenile in the Las Jolla location and high demand representing success coverall faults begging for competition.

Food Love

If your looking for unique dishes with vegan and sugar-less options, this is your place. It does not dissapoint!!

Love this Food Chain Restaurant

By Xessh |

As always, you expect good food and it is what you get. Flavours can be really good and others can be average but most of what I have tried in this restaurant and other True Food restaurants in the US are very good. Staff is very kind and always making sure you are well attended. Very clean and bright enough. I definitely recommend this restaurant to all kind of clients.

Always a favorite!

By Hotelsnobb |

This visit didn't disappoint. Love that their menu changes seasonally, but standards stay year round. A great selection of healthy vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free items on the menu. The Korean noodle bowl was super tasty...even my carnivore husband loved the vegan dish (he added shrimp). The butternut squash pizza (also vegan) was delicious. Nice atmosphere, great service and the best gluten free squash pie for dessert. Wish we had a True Food in Boston!

Excellent friendly people,

Excellent friendly people, delicious healthy food and manager who showed concern when one plate was not hot enough. A whole new plate brought out. Good heaters for outside sitting during this pandemic.

Consistently good food and service

By Wesley |

This place never disappoints for quality of food and service. Same experience no matter what location you go to. Parking is a bit tough at the UTC. Park in the garage and it is free for 2 hours

Excellent food and brunch options

Dashi ramen, avocado toast, edamame dumplings were all excellent. Excellent service and drinks as well

Delightful health dishes

By SimeyTravels |

Wow, this place knows how to make healthy food taste good! My boss brought my colleague and me here to celebrate my colleague's birthday. We showed up a bit later in the day (closer to 2 than 1) and were given a table on the patio. Now, it was hot that day - it's summer, after all! - but it was comfortable out there, with a slight breeze and shade offered by the many patio umbrellas. Our server was friendly and helpful, offering her opinion on the menu items and joking with my boss, who really can't help herself. We ordered drinks - kale aid drink for our CEO, chia pomegranate lemonade for the birthday girl, and I got the honey lemonade. We then ordered the edamame dumplings to share. For our mains, I went with the highly recommended (by the waitress and my CEO) Ancient Grains bowl, with tofu. My CEO went with the Mediterranean Quinoa salad, and the birthday girl got the Korean Noodle salad. The dumplings were delightful. There were five dumplings swimming in a light and tasty broth. My CEO handed out dumplings for everyone, then liberally dashed each plate with the sauce. The dumplings were perfectly cooked, which was surprising given the amount of sauce they were presented in. I expected them to be mushy and fall apart at the slightest touch, but they held their shape and had a really good, earthy flavor. And once our plates arrived, I knew why everybody at the table raved about the Ancient Grains bowl. The bowl comes with grilled and charred vegetables, avocado, spices and a sauce. The sauce that they use to pull everything together really makes the meal, as does the flavor of the charred portobellos. I made short work of that bowl in no time at all. My two lunch companions, meanwhile, loved their meals as well, though they kept gazing longingly at my bowl. They'd tried something new, to be different from me, and I think they were regretting that decision. Not that they didn't enjoy their food - they did - but they knew the kind of heaven I was in, consuming my own meal. Our waitress brought out the flourless chocolate cake to help us celebrate the birthday girl's meal. It should surprise nobody when I say that the cake was delicious. It's served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream - which apparently they make in-house, because why not? - and a drizzle of caramel. Delightful, for sure. We'll definitely go back, but I will say that this will have to be a "special occasion" spot, as their meals are not cheap. Still, good location (in the "nice, new" part of UTC), great service and delicious food. You really can't go wrong.

Healthy and delicious dishes

By Alexis B |

I love this chain of healthy food. This branch has opened recently and is similar to other spots. We went for Sunday brunch. The avocado toast with fried egg is absolutely delicious (especially with thyme). I tried the Ancient grains dish for the first time and it was very good. But my favorite item I had was the banana and date smoothie with almond milk. The dessert I had (summer berries) was good, but not my favorite (Flourless chocolate cake). We had a fantastic waitress, and service was very good. I definitely recommend True Food Kitchen if you haven’t been there yet.

Great Happy Hour!

By GloriaMaria0403 |

I have been here a few times. The wines are organic and delicious. Happy hour there is a great value - recently I had 2 happy hour items: hummus plate and vegetable plate each $5 - absolutely delicious, while wine is $6 a glass. I have had a regular meal there too. Personally I find the plates a small amound and a little bland for the price. However they do use fresh farm grown items.

Great place!

Great food and service! Myself and family always eat here!!!!!!! We love True Food and the staff is great!

Good lunch place

By unilsson |

A very easy-going place with good selection of nice lunch dishes like salads, bowls and sandwiches. The restaurant was rather noisy but not something that is too disturbing - discussing things across the table is no problem. The restaurant is located in outskirts of the Westfield UTC mall but still has a nice outside seating area if you fancy that. Perfect for lunch.

Wouldn't serve us

By Kirk P |

Made reservation and drove down from O.C. for a date. Upon arrival, hostess said I would have to have a mask to go from the hostess station to our table. I did not bring a mask. She brought her manager to explain. We were refused seating in an almost empty dining area (both inside and out) at 6pm. Now, the few seated patrons were all mask-free. I suggested we be allowed to go back outside and enter the patio area, which didn't require going into the restaurant to access. Again, the manager was not interested in providing service to my date, me, or the $100 I had in my pocket for our meals. They also did not offer me a mask so that I could enter their restaurant (not that I would have accepted, had they). I'm actually glad he made their priority clear, as I'm not interested in patronizing a business who puts service to the state ahead of service to their customers. So, we exited TFK and walked less than a minute to a nearby restaurant who was more than happy to seat us. Had a great meal in a restaurant I've never visited before and will happily return to in the future, knowing they are more interested in keeping their employees working and their business afloat than enforcing these made-up, draconian, mask/distancing rules from the State. You can get a great meal pretty much anywhere in SoCal. If you want to serve the State, go to TFK. If you want to promote Freedom, go elsewhere.

Fresh and tasty

By Heather M |

Stopped here for lunch with my sister and we both had a salad. Really fresh and good portion size. We sat inside which was comfortable and the service was great. Would eat here again.

Bomb food excellent down to earth staff Dylan is awesome!

Wow! As newly vegan I’m wildly impressed with the flavors here! I got the butternut smoked onion cranberry pizza it has a vegan ricotta made from almonds and it is a mess of crazy good flavors! Hubby had he sea bass with quinoa and it was soooo good and buttery! Our server Dylan is so real and down to earth he really new his stuff about the food options and recommendations, even though he’s not veg, he knew all the answers ❤️ even boxed my food. Must try!

A great surprise

By iowaer |

If you are looking for a gluten free/vegan friendly location that does not serve processed foods, this is the place! 8 of us were very pleased with the delicious food and the variety. My favorite is the edamame dumplings- a delicious surprise.

Awful!

Two $18.00 glasses of wine warm. Dinner entre just barely warm. Very few customers in the restaurant. Need more be said! To add insult the directions-signage to parking lot was awful. Never going back!

Terrible food, salty, absurd presentation (just food on a plate), really really terrible experience, worst of all is expensive, not going again

Beautiful dining experience but dishes widely vary

By ksgsbooks |

The atmosphere is very nice and both the inside and outside of the restaurant are gorgeous. There's a window inside that runs the length of the kitchen so you can watch your food being prepared, which is pretty cool. There was a 30 minute wait without a reservation, but we didn't mind waiting. However, there were several visibly empty tables being turned over and only 2 parties ahead of us, so it seemed like they were moving a little slow. There were a few seats and we wandered outside to the shops too, waited for the text they sent to tell us our table was ready. We were seated and all the staff was very friendly and energetic. All seemed happy and attentive. Ordered a bowl of the house soup (minestrone with sausage and tuscan kale) and a Medicine Man tea drink. Both of these arrived promptly and were absolutely delicious. The chicken pita was really tasty too. However, the rest of the meal was not as good. The turkey burger was large and hot but somewhat lacking in flavor (was there really jalapeño in the remoulade?). Meanwhile, the sweet potatoes were undercooked and the kale side salad tasted like it was swimming in lemon juice. Sweet potatoes were replaced but didn't arrive for 20 minutes. On the whole, it was a perfectly pleasant experience but some of the food was rather hit-or-miss. Maybe ask the server to recommend a dish? Prices were reasonable for UTC.

Excellent Food and Great Atmosphere

By David D |

This was our first visit here. We were there for an early dinner. We found out that they have a "happy hour" (3-6pm, M-F) where you can get 3 food items for $20. This special is only at this location. It's a great deal. They have pizza, soup, salad and a large vegetable plate to choose from. The environment was very good and I like the way the whole kitchen is behind glass so you can seen everything being made. This restaurant was co-founded by Dr. Andrew Weil who is well known for healthy and natural food. Everything on their menu tastes great and is made of healthy ingredients.

A Lunch on the Balcony

By Cheri W |

We were anxious to try this new restaurant because our condo faces the Westfield Mall, and we knew it would be a quick walk across the street. We first ordered the Edamame Dumplings ($11) which were delicious (5 flat, round ravioli-type appetizers filled with Edamame puree). They were devoured quickly, and were a healthy treat. My husband ordered the Pad Thai noodle dish ($19) which he loved and shared with me. I ordered the Chicken Salad ($15) which was tasty but had very little in it. Everything was chopped into extremely small pieces and mixed with a small bowl of lettuce .I guess I am used to The California Pizza Kitchen salads which are much bigger and have more food in them.I ordered pita bread ($1 extra) which was toasted and cut into triangles.Good also. For dessert I had the Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp ($9). It seemed that I waited forever to get it, and when it came, I knew it had been thrown together and put under the broiler. It wasn't cooked properly. The Rhubarb was hard and under-cooked and the strawberries were not fresh-tasting.Not a good dessert. My husband ordered the Chia Pudding and liked it.I tasted it and found it to be fairly good, but glutenous.I cook a lot, so I may be overly critical of these dishes. The service was very slow and I felt they were understaffed. Our lunch cost $67 plus a $10 tip and I felt that there needs to be some improvements made before we return. Some of the dishes offer very little food for a high price. Other dishes are not good recipes. The service needs to speed up.Of course there is ample parking in the parking garage.

Healthy and Delicious

By Mark W |

Unquestionably, True Food Kitchen offers superb, fresh and healthy food at a modest price. The choices are ample. I loved the squash soup and the steak tacos. Perfect for lunch or informal supper.

New location, same great flavors

By unhappytraveller123 |

This is one of the new restaurants to open at the renovated UTC mall. Besides the same menu as the one in Fashion Valley are lovely patios on either side of the restaurant. I always order the “ medicine man” drink with hawthorn, pomegranate, cranberry juice and my spirt lifts. So does my friend’s, I have the guacamole toast which features two perfect sunny side up eggs with a slather of quack. Fresh and delicious.she has the egg scrabble that also features yummy bites of field fresh ingredients. A great additional the mall and the chain.

Good food but limited outdoor seating options

By travelingCAgal |

We came here for lunch after not having been here since before the pandemic. First, we were disappointed that we were not allowed to sit in our favorite place (the west facing patio with long booth, tables and chairs and umbrellas) because a server was not available for that area. (What happened to the practice of satisfying the customer so that they become a repeat patron?) Second, we were disappointed to see that an enormous high rise has been built west of True Foods blocking all of the sunshine that used to pour into that lovely side patio! So we sat in the patio in front of the restaurant in the shade (when we’d hoped to be sitting in the sun). I’ll cut the restaurant some slack only because I admire their efforts to serve healthy food which is the real reason we came here! The food IS good & HEALTHY!

Good choice for group with vegans and gluten avoiders

By GuyA473 |

Large open seating with fairly high noise level. I ordered the Quinoa salad and mediterranean chicken. Portions were very large for both. The salad was interesting with olives, nuts, cheese, a fairly overdressed vinaigrette, and TONS of Quinoa. The Chicken was four large pieces of breast that was nicely grilled with a crispy skin. Nice sauce of chickpeas and carrots. An interesting figgy jam on top. All was prepared well but the chicken was industrial flavorless meat. Dark meat would have been a better pairing with the sauce. Adequate wine list. I would only go back if I were taking a group out that had picky eaters/vegans/gluten avoiders.

Fresh food but not the greatest and too expensive for what it is

By Julieanne H |

There are so many places to go for a poke bowl, but for the cost and quality, I’d pass on True Food Kitchen. The Korean glass noodle bowl is way overpriced for what it is and it was quite salty. The chicken sandwich was pretty good. The $5 ice tea does not come with refills and tastes a bit like flavored Lipton instant tea. The ambiance is nice and the service is ok. Don’t think I’d choose to eat here again.

True Flavors at True Food: A La Jolla Dining Experience

By Mike S |

Having dined at True Food Kitchen in other locations before, I was excited to experience its offerings in the scenic La Jolla, California. If you're considering a visit, I hope my insights will guide you! Location and Ambiance: Navigating the parking situation here can be a bit of a challenge – patience is your friend. But don’t let that deter you because what lies ahead is a delightful gastronomic experience in a wonderfully picturesque setting. The venue boasts abundant outdoor seating, letting you soak in the pleasant La Jolla vibes. Cuisine: True Food Kitchen consistently delivers on its promise of fresh and flavorful dishes, and this trip was no different. I went for the Ancient Grain bowl with grilled shrimp. Each bite was a delightful play of textures and flavors - the softness of the miso sesame glazed sweet potato, the aromatic hint of turmeric, the freshness of snap peas, and the creamy goodness of avocado. The cilantro pumpkin seed pesto dressing tied it all together in a harmonious blend. My partner's choice, the Wild Caught Tuna Tostada, was a display of culinary craftsmanship. The rich taste of the tuna was beautifully complemented by the creaminess of avocado, the slight kick of jalapeño pepper, the crunchiness of the umami cracker, and the zesty notes of citrus ponzu. Service: The service at True Food Kitchen is worth a mention. The staff here maintains a high standard, ensuring diners feel valued and taken care of. I have always had great service, but on this occasion our server kept us waiting several times and never came by to let us know how our meal was. She was however very personable. Final Thoughts: While the parking situation might be a minor hiccup, and the service not up to par, the overall dining experience at True Food Kitchen in La Jolla is worth every bit of effort. Whether you're a seasoned patron like me or a first-timer, the quality of the food and the ambiance will undoubtedly keep you coming back. 4 out of 5 stars for the slight inconvenience with parking, the service on this visit and the higher than normal prices, but overall a hearty recommendation for everything else! 🍽️🥂

Had lunch for my son in law. This is the second time I have eaten here. Love this restaurant. Food is always good, staff nice and the restaurant is gorgeous. I always want to add something different that is not on the menu and they never say no we can’t do that. They are always accommodating. I will be back.

This was our second visit. Everything was fabulous. Try the lasagna... out of this world. Amber provided excellent service. We had the squash toast appetizer, and everyone loved it. Fun place. Gotta go!!!
