Deliciously healthy!

By theloanmodguru |

I find reasons to be near Fashion Valley just to be able to eat here! Charred Cauliflower is amazing and so is the kaleaid greens drink & my personal fave ....Panang Curry with steelhead salmon & the ancient grains bowl....and don't even talk to me about the gluten free chocolate cake...ask for it with coconut whip cream...heaven... I come here every chance I get!

Top notch!

This is a great place to eat any time of day. Healthy and delicious food combinations. Check out the menu to understand what I'm talking about, and visit to reward your palate! (Not to mention, Management will treat you like royalty!)

Pleasant and new experience

By dstephenson73 |

I took my daughter-in-law to this restaurant, because my son is a complete carnivore. I'm more adventurous. I ordered a salad with salmon and fresh veggies and a flavored tea. ( I can't remember which one). We ate outside surrounded by the wonderful smelling herbs. The one draw back is the seating arrangements. It is a very busy place and not enough seats.

Pleasant Surprise

By SFOglobetrotter |

So this is an organic healthy etc restaurant. Not normally a place I would chose - but was there with a group from a conference so..... First of all, the place is in a mall - at the corner of two very busy thoroughfares...so seemingly unappealing. And yet - We sat outside (heating lamps were awesome), had organic wine/cocktails.... and then the food was absolutely amazing. Huge selection to appease all appetites. I thought I would not like this place and was very pleasantly surprised. I had the grilled chicken salad and it was to die for. Sounds boring, but I assure you, it is not!

Great food + great service = great review

By simicu |

We're staying at a nearby hotel and the front desk rep recommended this eatery and so glad she did. We really enjoyed our meal and the service was equal to the task as well. The Mrs had the summer redfish, I went with the Korean noodle bowl. Both were outstanding and reasonable in price. We finished by sharing their key lime mousse. They are very much into healthy choices and sustainability, yet doing so in a delicious and friendly manner. Highly recommended.

Good food, fair prices

By wilma v |

During a work-stay in San Diego one of my colleagues showed me this restaurant. The food was excellent and offered many options also for people with intolerance or allergies. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was great. We went there twice with colleagues. I stayed a few days more in San Diego and made sure to go back there one more time to enjoy the food. Normally I do not go to the same restaurant more then once (to keep variation and explore new things) however, this was so good that I could go there over-and over again! Besides the main courses, the drinks and deserts were also excellent. I would definitely recommend to go there.

Great food excellent service

By Sarah H |

Always good food here, interesting selection of drinks and great service. You do need to book to avoid waits on some evenings. The menu changes frequently enough to keep things fresh. The organic ethos may be a bit much for some- just go for great tasty and filling food and you’ll be fine.

Never thought I would like this...

By Wise14u |

I would not usually go to a restaurant like this but my wife recently was diagnosed with multiple food allergies. First our waitress Sonija was amazing. She took the time to educate us on the menu and help my wife select her entrée. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and knew the ingredients of every dish. They make the food fresh from fresh ingredients so that helps. I had a pizza the Margherita on half and wild mushrooms on the other half. It was delicious. The Margherita was better than I had in Italy. My wife had the teriyaki bowl and she enjoyed hers. Flourless chocolate cake was fabulous. Vegan, Vegetarian and Gluten Free options available. Great for people who want to try something new, with unique flavors.

Delicious meal

By Jennifer M |

I visited this restaurant for a sponsored lunch while at a conference. The food was served buffet style on the beautiful patio outside, and it was all delicious. They offered several different items, with plentiful choices for vegetarians. If you had other restrictions, they were happy and quick to make a modified version for you. The food was all seasonal and fresh, and I'm definitely going to visit for an actual meal the next time I'm in town.

Lunch with friends

By Emory B |

We stopped in for Sunday Brunch. A centrally located health food restaurant in Fashion Valley Plaza.. Not knowing what to expect from a health food restaurant and not recognizing much on the menu, I chose the Range Egg Scramble with veggies. A very pleasant surprise with excellent taste. Excellent service.

Great Food and Atmosphere

By JDawan |

This is truly one of San Diego hidden “gems”. I started with a appetizer which was a very tasty humus. Then I had the fish tacos. What a amazing tasteful meal!

Not recommendable.

By Aikenfans |

We were surprised at how noisy the interior of this restaurant is. It didn't help having to wait over a half hour for a table. We wound up with a table on the terrace, with a great view of cars passing by. It took over another half hour to get our food, once we had ordered. The server was very nice, and paid attention. The shrimp and the chicken pad thai were bland, and tasted nothing like the pad thai that we have had at many Thai restaurants. They had a very peculiar taste. Actually, they were not good at all. Even worse, the bill for these two items, with no drinks, was $45 - plus tip. Ridiculous for lunch at a place like this. We would never go to this restaurant again.

Healthier options

By Travel X |

The restaurant looks nice…menu was very limited and some of the options were too similar…food was ok and so was the service

Delicous farm to table food!

By Gazelle Deer |

I had Sunday Brunch at this restaurant, located in Fashion Valley. I ordered the Garden Scramble -- organic eggs, grilled asparagus, roasted pepper, sweet potato, spinach, grana padano (cheese) and fresh chicken sausage. It came in a large bowl, enough easily for two. Since I dine in this restaurant rather frequently, I have found the food to always be fresh, expertly prepared and hot. For dessert I would recommend the ginger-meyer lemon sorbet. It melted in my mouth. It was a refreshing and light finish to the entrée, also made on the premises. The wait staff are friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. The ambience is light and airy inside, and immaculately clean. The restaurant also offers outdoor dinning. A good wine list is also available. For a relaxed, unhurried meal -- weekend Brunch, lunch or dinner -- with plenty of wonderful atmosphere, I highly recommend "True Food Kitchen."

Just delicious

This venue offers good service, great healthy food choices, and generous portions. Lovely venue to have lunch with friends and shop.

Pick the Patio

By Wineman49er |

Good food and the outdoor patio was great. We had a group of 8 and got comfortably around a round elevated table. Everything tasted great and service was prompt.

Fresh & Clean

From vegan, to carnivore, to omnivore - there is something delectable for all. Even those who are gluten free. The food is organic/healthy but delicious, so not only will it make you mouth happy but your entire body. Enjoy!

If you are anywhere near the Fashion Valley Mall. Or even not so near, this is s must. Not your typical mall food place. Fresh fresh fresh. Service was outstanding

Poor Experience

By MBrown28 |

Let's just say if it wasn't for Kevin, who was the server in the bar area my rating would be Terrible. To say the least, I didn't feel welcome from the time I walked in the door. The hostess stood right in front of me, looked me in the eye and didn't offer me a table or seat and no one else was waiting or standing in the waiting area. I had to literally ask her for a table and she seem to be bothered by that. Once, I was seated at the bar... it took several minutes (15-20) to be greeted and finally Kevin came over an assisted me. He was great and made great recommendations. I truly would have left if I wasn't so hungry and my back wasn't hurting. For the first time in a long time, I truly felt that I was being discriminated against. Nevertheless, I took the opportunity to speak with the Manager and she was a poor representative of the company and true customer service. She appeared too careless. I did share the positive feedback about Kevin with the Manager as well. I will try True Food again, but absolutely not this location.

Hollywood Nigh Club Appeal Without The Attitude

By Feedbackart |

I'm a Farmer, and I'm always searching for restaurants where I can sell my produce. I really like the idea of healthy pairings for a meal, and True Food Kitchen called out to me. I was greeted by several well dressed, and lovely Hostesses who ushered me to a spot at the bar. I really like the high ceilings and interesting layout and decor of the restaurant. The photo on this page doesn't do the decor justice. The gorgeous Bartender McKenzie was in the weeds, but was quick to greet me and take my order with great composure. I ordered a bottle of beer and the Kale salad. Two sips into the beer, with just enough time to look around and the salad was in front of me. A large portion of thinly chopped kale in an attractive bowl appeared fresh and consistent in color. A simple looking salad, heaped in the center was well covered with a fantastic garlic-heavy dressing. It really hit the spot. The Chef was wise to chop the kale thinly since kale is generally very tough to chew. There were many people of varying age and affluence surrounding me, on a Thursday night. It wasn't even dark outside, yet the place was hopping. The few remaining spots at the bar filled up quickly as I finished my salad and beer. The gorgeous Bartender, McKenzie, was quick to notice I was done, and did not hesitate to bring my check when prompted. I breezed by the Hostess podium on my way out to wish the ladies a wonderful evening and was again struck by their good looks and elegant evening attire. They were all genuine, with natural smiles and no attitude. The price of the meal didn't seem high enough to pay all of the staff, so they must have a huge volume of customers. Good, others should discover and know of this restaurant gem tacked on the side of a mall.

Yes, Healthy Food can be Good!

By slovaktoo |

I love watching the cooking competition shows on TV. And that one chef that wants to revolutionize the scene by showing healthy cooking can be good always loses early. Don't let that make you believe it can't be done. I love this place. Everything they serve if flavorful. It arrives quickly after ordering and you can really taste the freshness. The only thing different is you don't get that deep fried, overcooked richness. You won't miss it. My personal favorite is the lasagna. I go out of my way to come here just for that dish!

yummy and gluten free

By Myrrhia |

In town for a conference and had dinner. Wait staff helped me pick and i chose asparagus leek soup and Moroccan chicken. I practically licked the soup bowl. The Morocan chicken smelled so good, all my friends wanted to taste it. i guess I should have taken pix A bit pricey but worth it

Great fresh alternative

Great spot for some healthy options. Nice atmosphere with friendly service and great healthy choices for my family.

Healthy organic lunch

By TomLuke123 |

True Food Kitchen is an excellent and healthy place to stop for lunch or dinner. Bright, airy and understated, the restaurant serves the best of organic and nutritious dishes. I had stunning miso soup and a lunch salad. Everything on the menu looked good so I m fairly certain that it will please most of customers. Highly recommended.

Great ingredients

By livend |

A great place to stop by during a shopping day. The staff is very friendly and available. The food tasted very good given the quality ingredients that stand out from the average restaurant. As many have pointed out, the portions are small, especially for the price but that's the tradeoff you have to do for quality I guess.

Contemporary

By It's Me |

We had dinner at this place today and I would say this is an International cusine restaurant, specious, indoor & outdoor seating located at fashion valley area. The margarita pizza was so delicious, salad tasty too, the spaghetti made with a twist but not that great. Some food modifications don't work out and some could. Recommend, prices mid to & high.

Fresh, clean, tasty.

By Cherie P |

If you want freshly prepared whole food this place is fantastic! My quinoa bowl came piping hot and the fresh juices are fabulous, my sparkling ginger beer came with a yummy piece of crystallize ginger on top.

Horrible service

By Troy H |

Wanted something vegan, so thought I'd try True Food not too far from my hotel. The Hostess was extremely friendly. Sat down and looked over the menu while 3 different servers walked through the patio. After 15 minutes and no service, asked the hostess if a server could be sent over to our table. 5 minutes later, still no server. A couple sat at the table next to us and within a minute, a server was at their table. We decided to leave, but I spoke with the manager to let him know what horrible service we received. Went to a larger, busier restaurant a short distance away and received prompt service.

Lively restaurant

By Elaine W |

Was invited to a pre wedding get together Although staff friendly and setting unusual, the service was a little haphazard. As the venue is large it's very noisy therefore difficult to hear, meaning not all orders were fulfilled correctly. As we were guests it would appear ungracious to complain.Pretentious menu which did not deliver in taste or value for money

Great Fresh and Local

By lisaandersonma |

I had a salad with all sorts of interesting things in it: chicken, cranberries, dates, manchego, pear, farro and more that I can't even remember. I brought a book to read but ended up reading the menu instead. I didn't have the appetite to try anything other than my salad. They gave me 2 samples of their homemade refreshers that were somewhere between OK and good. Not good enough to order but I drank every last drop. Great envirment and the wait staff was excellent.

Girls golf trip

By Una A |

Everyone arrived, got settled and ready to eat. This place was close to the hotel. Since there were 7 of us , we were unsure we could get a nice table. Table was great . Menu was healthy and had something for everyone. Chopped salad was great and I was able to get a half portion. Butternut squash was wonderful. They had a great wine and drink selection. Our waitress was fantastic and friendly.

All around fabulous

By GeorgiaJael |

I had lunch here with my mother and my aunt and we were all impressed with the food. From the appetizers to the entrees to the mixed drinks, everything was superb. The wild-caught albacore tataki and sustainable sea bass were exceptional. We were all so happy with our ginger margaritas! The service was as wonderful as the food - our waitress was gracious and the manager, who came out to talk to us personally, clearly knows how to provide hospitality. Can't wait to be back in San Diego so I can eat here again!

Shopping area food

By Ian T |

Lovely building and cool environment, aircon was a bit too cool as we had to move tables. The service was quick efficient and the girl who served us was lovely. We had a turkey burger and two pizzas 🍕 quick and good quality very healthy and limited drinks for kids or non alcoholic drinkers. They pride themselves on the healthy approach which is good so some original dishes and weird looking concoction but worth a try it's not all about fast food and cola...

Great food and great server!

By Brian B |

Another tasty “clean” meal from True Food Kitchen. Veronica was great and came through with all of our requests. The chef was great also. Good way to end a long drive back from Vegas!

Loved it!!!!!

By Lesley W |

The food and atmosphere were excellent. I had one of their signature drinks. It was amazing. I had the Poke bowl. I also loved that. Sat at the bar, and sat beside a wonderful girl from San Francisco. She had the lasagna . Amy, said it was delicious. Totally Recommend

True Food Fan for Life

By Hailey C |

Had another great experience at True Food today! I live in Oregon and we do not have a TFK in our state. Had True Food for the first time back in August and couldn't wait to make it my first meal when we landed! Service was amazing and food was delicious! Very busy today but we only waited about 10 mins for a table and we were eating less than 15 mins after we ordered. The San Diego Vibe in there was amazing! I love this City and I love True Food!

Quick Healthy-ish Food

By Travelling_Bubbies |

We have been here before a few times and it's good but not over-the-top amazing. This time around we ordered the red noodle dish with shrimp, the zucchini was slightly undercooked but some people like that for the extra crunch texture-- this dish is advertised as vegetarian but if that isn't your thing, I'd definitely recommend adding some protein otherwise it would be too bland -- the dish tasted like chow mein without being too oily. The poké dish was decent but most of the fish was oddly white rather than traditionally red poké. On a Tuesday evening service was very fast and friendly

Outstanding food!! Excelent service , relaxed enviroment.

By pmedic3718 |

Many would say that is a menu more related to a vegan choice. Well not, lots of protein dishes on the menu, but to be honest is the only place where we ate none fat greasy dishes, the organic theme is the main topic for the menu, what we really liked is that they don’t have a fryer so made us feel realy eating healthy food. Price range is nothing high if considering that the dishes we feasted are signature dishes. Portions are enough and really taste full. Serve no French fries or soft drinks, instead nice cocktails and non alcoholic drinks, wine selection was ok. Service is outstanding always giving their best to treat you. Nice relaxed environment, not bad going with the family, actually the kids menu is really good too.

Fresh, healthy food!

By cjhill95 |

Stopped in for a quick lunch and had been looking for a healthier option....we found it! So many awesome sounding choices on the menu, it was so hard to choose! I think everyone in our party enjoyed their meals very much. They don't serve traditional sodas, but have fresh squeezed drink options, which tasted good, but were more expensive than a regular drink. Service was good, atmosphere was nice and the food was fabulous!

Great healthy lunch

By Hillrm |

I was meeting with some colleagues near here and we walked over for lunch. The menu has many healthy looking options and the staff was friendly and efficient. I had a red chili noodle bowl with salmon that I really enjoyed. Luckily we headed over a few minutes before noon because the place got quite busy after we ordered. All in all it was a nice environment sitting outside on a warm and sunny day.

Nice and healthy food

By Nabiscoang |

Great food, with vegan food around, they serve very healthy food with promise of no added ingredients and freshly made. Their Asian bowl was a joy to eat, their burger was great as well. Fishes were nicely baked, not too raw and not too cooked. Coffee with almond milk is tasty too!

Good food but a bit pricey for what you get

By ccrowe3 |

My daughter recently had a birthday and wanted to go to True Food. I normally avoid Mission Valley and the crowds there but the restaurant was pleasant and comfortable. We dined outside where we could people watch the mall which was interesting. The food was good although the menus is rather limited. Not the kind of place I'd normally go but I'm a long way from being a hipster!

Great fresh food and ambience

By majida1 |

After a few hours of shopping at Fashion Valley Mall I wanted a break and eat some healthy food that satisfied my meat craving. Opted for the Grass Fed Burger at the True Food Kitchen. Absolutely great food and more than anything absolutely fresh ambience !! Server Sarah was extremely friendly!! Really good coffee too!!

Lunch

By John R |

Well the wait time from ordering to getting food long waits, but well worth it food was amazing. I had the curry with chicken a must try when you visit

Nothing special

By Karen W |

The food is ok but nothing special, the restaurant is noisy so don't expect to have a conversation except with the person right next to you. We had a party of six and could not hear from one end of the table to the other. The service we had was terrible. The server either didn't remember we were there or forgot to bring out the order in a timely manner. Others around us were being served while we just sat there. And it wasn't cheap so I was sorry I took out of town guests to this place. I won't go back.

I ate quinoa and I liked it

By robdoc000 |

Lovely selection of very tasty, healthy foods. We got salads that were large and flavorful and complex, in terms of tastes and textures, which all came together perfectly. Very impressed.

Outstanding Drinks, Healthy Food and Vegan choices

By Michael W |

While visiting San Diego, my wife and I choose to eat here because it was listed as having choices for vegans. The menu contained many vegan choices and even more that can be made to be vegan. The meal was superb and the wine list was also splendid. Highly recommended. Once may choose to sit inside or outside.

Real food, no sugar added - Tasty

By ALSS-OZ |

Was looking for a restaurant that served up food in its original condition (unprocessed). Very happy with vast array of ‘real’ food options - all very tasty for our party of four. Not to pricey - a bit pretentious for us Australians who would expect no less from a cafe. Coffee was excellent also.

Very good and healthy food!

By Trip674053 |

Me and my wife visited this lovely restaurant. My pizza was amazing! A little to small for my taste, but the taste was top notch! The staff were friendly and smiling to. If you find yourself in the area, you should definetely give it a try!

amazing food with healthy (even vegan!) choices

By Morgan H |

I've been every time I visited San Diego with my Mom and still go now that I live here. The food is amazing and healthy. Many options for dietary restrictions (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free). Great, friendly service. Fresh atmosphere.

Healthy if you have the patience to wait

By Gladstone J |

Food was great and tasted very fresh! We had a party of 11, which made it difficult to serve. But they were not super busy, so they should have been more timely. The juice concoctions were great! The appetizers were spot on. And all the dinners were hot and flavorful. They should have had an alternative for the shrimp flavors in the Penang curry!

Walked in without knowing

By Garrit A |

Basically that, we were hungry and didn't know where to go, so we ended up here and, to our surprise, it was pretty freaking awesome. Service was great and the food was wonderful, Had a Turkey burger which was great and the coconut watermelon soda was as refreshing as the summer morning breeze. It's not cheap, but then again if you want cheap food you can always go to visit Mr Jack or the golden archs.

Dinner

By claudia l |

The food was very good, super fresh. A really nice place for having dinner with fiends. They have a lot of glutenfree and diaryfree meals. Even if you eat vegan you are at the perfect place to get happy:)! Enjoy!!!

An Oasis in a Wasteland

By Sarah Daggett |

As a healthy eater, vacations are usually hard. So much fake food is used in restaurants these days that it's hard to find something truly nourishing. I was so happy to go to True Food Kitchen! While their food isn't guaranteed organic, it's at least a step in the right direction. The ingredients and recipes seemed fresh and were very tasty. It was delightful to be able to order something like real, fresh guacamole and harissa roasted cauliflower. If you are a health nut, you will LOVE this restaurant.

Yummy!

By DebraEss |

We are from our of town and wanted a good, local restaurant with an interesting menu. This place filled the bill on all accounts. The menu is based on dietary reccomendations from Dr. Andrew Weil and is delicious as well as nutritious! I think there's an item for every kind of diet. Come to SLC!

First timer

By Mary R |

Stopped in with my cousin for brunch. I was really happy to see that I could get eggs, even later in the day. The place is simple and casual and the star of the place is the simple yet skillfully prepared food and the uniqueness of the menu as a whole. Saw lots of couples and families in the dining room and there was a line forming to be seated when we left. Good place and would go again.

The food and service are amazing.

By Beth S |

The food and service are amazing. I was at a conference with friends and ate here for three meals. We could not have been more impressed. The one night I didn’t eat here I regretted my decision.

Excellent quality healthy food

By btdathomson |

Very nice staf and excellent food. Stylish European furniture. Must visit when in the neighborhood. Price is is worth every penny.

Healthy and delicious!

By Kiwi000001 |

This True Food location is a very large restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. The food very good and the service was attentive.

Great choices for healthy meals!

By cunningtim |

I've been twice so far, once for lunch, and most recently for breakfast. Nice airy environment, and a health conscious menu. Even the larger, seemingly heavy meals, don't weigh you down.

Awesome Waitress! Awesome Food! Rude Hostess!

By Kind Traveler |

Had I not known and loved the concept behind the delicious food at True Food Kitchen, we would have walked away from the hostess desk without being seated. Maybe it was an off-day, but the young red-haired hostess with curly hair and glasses could not have been ruder! And we came in smiling and friendly... not combative or looking for surly arrogance. Our waitress was fabulous, and the Charred Cauliflower, Chopped Salad, and Grilled Salmon were excellent! The Sparkling Antioxidant Tea was the perfect beverage for the meal. Hats off, True Foods Kitchen!!

YES! This Is My Kind of Food!

By Jennifer H |

A friend ours recommended we go to True Food Kitchen before the U2 concert at Qualcomm stadium. We met there, ate and took the trolley to the concert from Fashion Valley. How happy was I that she chose this place? Very!! True Food Kitchen has food that is local, fresh, in season and very good for you. I wanted to get everything on the menu but my brother and I settled for sharing the mushroom/asparagus pizza and the Poke bowl. Both were absolutely outstanding. I got a local beer - Saint Archer Blonde (one of my favorites) which was super light and refreshing. The entire meal did not put me in a food coma and I felt terrific when we left. It was so much better than going some place and eating a greasy burger so I would be tired the entire concert. I love that the menu changes with the seasons and I am super excited to go back and try all the new things that will be on the next menu! LOVED this place!

Favorite Restuarant in San Diego

By Brandon W |

This place is amazing! Fresh, Natural and extremely delicious food. If you are looking for a place that has some tasty but healthy options this is the place to go. Great location as there is parking all over the mall and you can have a quick shop. We visit this restaurant as often as we can. I could recommend a few things on the menu, but i think you should go try it for yourself... DELICIOUS!!!! Also great service which is key to the experience

Disappointing

By Debbie H |

We have been there many times over the years and have had good experiences. It works well since there so many food options. Last night was an off night. The food quality and slow service were not up to the standard of we are used to. The dining area was not too busy but they had a lot of take away orders so i am wondering if they are catering more to outside delivery. Disappointing.

Relaxing atmosphere with delicious healthy options

By Nancy G |

This eatery has friendly staff who seem to know a little about the food they are serving ( at least our waiter Alan did). We ended up sampling 4 entrees even though there were only three of us. ( we did take a bit home for another day) my non vegan friend got the spaghetti squash casserole and loved it. We ordered the quinoa inside out burger , the pizza and the ancient grains bowl. The burger and grain bowl were both terrific. They were equally good when the leftovers were reheated a few days later. I was not impressed with the pizza as I did not like the taste or consistency of the nut based ricotta cheese. Just not my thing. They offer glasses of wine in 6 or 9 oz options which is nice. All in all an enjoyable evening. We sat outside which is fun on a warm evening.

Healthy, innovative and fun spot

By Valerie P |

GREAT menu that changes with the seasons... wonderful options for folks looking for healthy food that tastes amazing. Great cocktails, great service and overall great experience every time we visit.

Delicious and Healthy

By Ntrekker |

Beautiful outdoor dining area. Attentive and friendly staff. Food was really good. The iced tea was freshly made. A gem located in Fashion Valley Mall.

Ordered it out- very nice food

By Pepper |

We were working right next to the Fashion plaza and ordered out our food. I had the brussels sprouts and the Lasagna bolognese. I thought both were good- but of course take out , especially if you can't eat it right away, is not a true test of the kitchen.Still they did a very good job and I would give the aat least a four. Hae to say though that 23,00 for the sprouts is a bit stiff... The Lasana was reasonably priced and tasty but I thought there was more spinach in it than quite suited me.

Food is just ok, food prep is slow

By Joel B |

I’ve tried this place 3-4 times and tried to like it but: #1. It’s a little pricy #2. The kitchen is very slow getting your food out. #3. The portions aren’t generous- for instance my “bowl” of soup had about a “cups” worth of soup in it. However, the servers have ALL been very friendly and willing to do what was necessary to make your dining experience a good one - which is why I kept giving them just one more chance. But no more, there’s lots of restaurant competition out there.

Love True food’s

When ever we are shopping at Fashion Valley we eat at True Foods. Great food And now they have a restaurant at UTC

Fresh and delicious

Very nice ambiance and really good food. We had great dinner last night with my wife, just a bit pricey but worth it. I totally recommend True food👍

Inattentive Service-Good Food. 3.5

By mamat122963 |

The food here is always fresh and yummy. I had the grilled chicken salad which was a 5- my daughter had the steak tacos which were a 4. The service was a 2. We asked for ice water 3 times before we got it. I know there's a drought here, but really?

Come for the food, stay for the vibes.

By Leo F |

Had lunch at True Food Kitchen with my girlfriend. The amazing and gracious Ash was our server. The salmon I ordered was chewy; Ash was gracious enough to remake my order. The second salmon was not only perfectly cooked, the manager brought it to me. Excellent service isn't about getting everything right, it's about how responsive you are when things need to be corrected. They nailed it. I proceeded to enjoy their salmon entree. We love this place for it's friendly and welcoming atmosphere from the staff and also the patrons. It feels like a place where people gather, connect and share. We look forward to having many more meals here. Thank you Ash, the manager and everyone who is a part of the True Food Kitchen experience.

Always Great Food

By David D |

We tried the True Food KItchen at UTC and this was the first time we visited here. The food was great and will be back for more next time we're in the area.

Still trendy and pricey

By ccrowe3 |

If it weren't for my vegan daughter I would never eat at such a place. Sure it's hip and trendy, but the food is mediocre, expensive for what you get, and the menu is rather limited. The best aspect of the restaurant is watching the shoppers walk by.

Great food

By Pineapple829 |

Wide menu selection of local fresh food. Good service and atmosphere. Had the wild mushroom asparagus pizza and it was prepared just right. I would definitely eat here again

Delicious food and plenty of it; great service

By caltravelgal |

This restaurant offers something for everyone: omnivores, vegans, gf, etc. On cold days you can even stay warm in the covered outdoor seating due to fire pit and overhead heaters. Nice cocktails. Very friendly servers.

Great place for brunch

By TravelGeek26 |

We went for brunch and it was amazing. I really enjoyed the date and banana shake. The service was fantastic and our waiter was helpful and answered any questions we had. The pricing is a little high, but I think it's worth it for the quality of food. Tip: Make a reservation online if you can. This place gets busy on the weekends.

Great healthy breakfast!

By MauiScott1 |

My wife's favorite breakfast place when we are in San Diego, and she doesn't even like breakfast... they have plenty of healthy options which are very tasty. A little pricey for breakfast, but overall we'll be back.

Unexpected and incredible

By Renee S |

If you haven't had the chance to experience this place you have to go! The food is fantastic and the atmosphere matches that. Was in San Diego with friends and we decided to do some shopping. It came time for lunch and nobody wanted food court or Cheesecake Factory so we decided to give this a try. We were seated outside in an enclosed area heated well on a beautiful sunny day. Our server was great from the start engaging in conversation and taking us through the menu. We each ordered some incredible mimosa's to start and moved on to share a Brussels sprout and wild mushroom pizza.... It was so good! I ordered the Spicy Panang Curry bowl which was also amazing and we all had more mimosa's! All the while our server engaged, checked in, and made us feel great about our lunch choice. If you are visiting the area I highly recommend True Food Kitchen. Great in all areas!

Great lunch!

We tried the branch at the Westfield Shopping Center. Great food. Loved the watermelon lemonade and the quinoa burger was great. Good with the sweet potato hash. Prices were good for a good amount of food. Enjoyed the experience and highly recommend.

True to its name

By Angela1250 |

Located at one end of Fashion Valley Mall a great place for lunch in the middle of a shopping weekend True to the statement that healthy food can also taste great. A lot of choices. Can recommend the grilled chicken salad with apple, cranberries, almonds and lots more Very reasonably priced Restaurant was full but Bar seating and communal tables are a great choice if you don't want to wait Great choice

Great food

By Nazanine B |

This is such a cozy little place. Love the light wight, healthy food they offer. The staff is always kind and gives you great suggestions on what to pick if it's your first time. I go there at least once a month with friends. It has a great ambiance and it doesn't take that long to be seated.

Delicious Food

By LindseyWPB |

I lunched here with my friend who recommended TFK because of my gluten sensitivity. The staff were very nice and we received our orders in a timely manner. I got a grilled chicken avocado wrap with gluten-free pita bread and sweet potato hash. Absolutely delicious!!

Excellent for every food profile

By CleopatraBunny |

We came as a large group with a variety of food restrictions but they handled it all with ease. Awesome, fresh and innovative. Parking is a problem so just use the valet out front!

Consistently excellent

By unhappytraveller123 |

My husband has been raving about the eggs you can only get on the weekends at True Food so finally I deviate from my chicken with dates, cranberries and other delights to order the smashed avocado on toast. On their delicious bread is placed a sunny side up egg, slice of cheese, black sea same seeds, thyme and mashed avocado.and it all works together, lightly. It's not guacamole that overpowers but a light layer of perfect avocado. The egg deserves its star power as it's like no egg I've ever tasted. The year me is yellow and it is so lovely get, it practically flows off the plate. There are a few greens that catch the egg juices, and truly it is simply delicious. I order the medicine man drink which has buckthorns, twice brewed black tea, cranberry and pomegranate and I'm very happy. But those eggs...the way all eggs should taste.

True Food has Fries!

By Hailey C |

It's been a long time since I've been to True Food. Use to go here a lot when I was vegan and always enjoyed the quality of food. The other day I went back because I heard they have fries and they did not disappoint! I thought True Food would never fry their food and they still don't! These were air-fried to perfection! Staff and service team were all super nice and accommodating. I had brought in my furry friend and we had a wonderful time on the patio. I'll be back!

Best in San Diego

Best service and food in San Diego. The management team is amazing and will make sure your dining experience is memorable.

Lunch which on a shopping trip

By clare w |

My husband and I had been shopping for Christmas all morning. We decided to try this restaurant instead of P F Chang’s where we usually go . I had said we should try to start eating a little bit more healthy and so he said ok to a new place ...although a bit reluctantly .. We were greeted by a very pleasant hostess who seated us . Our waitress gave us menus and explained several of the items in great detail and was very helpful ... We both had a delicious butternut squash soup to start followed by a really wonderful salad which we split ... it was certainly large enough to do so . Salad was baby greens, pepperadew , cherry tomatoes, quinoa, whole almonds, Persian cucumbers and green beans and olives. You could add several Protein choices if you wanted .. We then split a small pizza of arugula , marinara sauce and mozzarella. Also very good... Amazingly all of the above was surprisingly low in calories. It is very helpful that the calorie count is listed for each item! We loved the whole experience and will definitely go back ..my husband who loves nothing better than a big fat burger with extra fries said he loved it !

Best Salad Anywhere

By Seetheworld |

My first experience with this restaurant was with its Scottsdale location years ago. When they opened in San Diego I was elated. Now, they have just changed their 'chicken chopped salad' to just 'chopped salad'. P-E-R-F-E-C-T......no longer do I have to say "less chicken...more dates". It comes that way - no chicken and more dates. They just changed near-perfect to perfect.

An okay meal

By CityHiker73 |

We needed a place for dinner, and our favorite spot had too long a wait. This place seemed to have a number of high schoolers dining together, maybe after a school event. We were seated promptly, and our server eventually come over and explained that menu items marked with an avocado were in season. My companion had a simple pizza, which was fine. I had a chicken wrap with a special ranch dressing. It too was fine though not very filling. It came with a totally kale salad, which was a bit bitter. Service was a little slow, but okay.

Excellent food and service

By jawms |

Staying nearby for a conference, a colleague and I walked to Fashion Valley Mall and ate here on impulse. We had a nice outdoor table. Great service, nice wine selection, fun food options. Our server was great - attentive but not rushed or pushy. We enjoyed our meal.

LOVE IT!

By maryaling |

My husband and I love this place. We find the food to be very fresh and healthy and unique. The service is friendly, albeit a little slow at times. They brought the wrong order to my husband today, but they gladly took it back and got it changed for the correct order with no problem. The HUMMUS is the most delicious we have ever had!! Seriously, it's that good!!! If you're ever in the area stop by for lunch or dinner. It's delicious.

Very good, very pricey.

By Murph211 |

Our fish tacos, cauliflower polenta bowl, asparagus and beverages cost $65 including tip and it was on the early afternoon menu. Good food? Yes. Pricey? You bet.

Truly tasty food with kind people

By Sherpa786526 |

I was looking for a birthday restaurant when we were in San Diego. I booked a table online for 8.30 pm but we got delayed due to our baby. I called at 8.50 and asked if we can still come in and they were able to accommodate us and keep the kitchen open for longer. The food itself was fantastic. We are vegetarian, so we ordered almost all the veggie options on the menu. Most of the dishes were things we never tried and we were pleasantly surprised! We loved the butternut squash pizza, the edamame dumplings and the OG drink. Our server was also very pleasant and also brought my wife a cake when we told him that it was her birthday. Will definitely recommend due to their tasty vegetarian options!

Awesome

By cja2k1 |

This is the third True Food Kitchen I've experienced (Scottsdale and Newport Beach are the others), and their consistency is great: the food always tastes delicious, the drinks are always terrific, and the servers are always friendly and knowledgeable. We loved this branch so much that we came for lunch the day after we had dinner there. Highly recommended!

Delicious Southern California food

By mshbnyehud |

Organic. Natural. Healthy. I liked this restaurant so much I ate lunch here two times back to back! Lots of goodness in a very large space that, nonetheless, manages to make you feel like it's a bistro. Service is exceptional all around, starting with their very efficient greeters. We were immediately offered drinks (a large number of interesting choices), and even if you order iced tea, you're offered a choice of black tea or green tea. Nice! Or, you can order an Arnold Palmer, and the lemonade will come on the side for you to mix in yourself, to taste. Also nice! One day I ordered the black lentil soup which was phenomenal, and then followed it with hummus and pita. Equally delicious, but with a fairly strong garlic taste. Large portion and quite filling. The next day I skipped the starters and ordered the chicken sandwich in pita bread. Fantastic! The chicken was moist, hot, and the vegetable fixin's created a wonderful taste. It comes with a kale salad which I personally don't love. There's many unique items on the menu which are much more common to a So. Cal. restaurant than probably anywhere else. But hey, if you want to truly eat healthy, this is one of the best.

Horrible customer service

By Keith H |

I live near the fashion Valley Friars Road location. Customer service is horrible especially the bar staff very unfriendly. I will drive the 15 extra miles to the UTC location much better.

Amazing food appalling service

By david p |

Went to this establishment, as I have said the food is very very good and the service is very very bad. After giving out order, we had to ask four times to get water, and they brought our wine, fine, and bottle of beer with no glass, again three times I asked for a glass before it arrived. There were other people around us that had arrived after us and they had food and were finished, and we were still left waiting, the staff all gathered to adjust umbrellas in the restaurant they would be better place to attend to the CUSTOMERS in the establishment. Appalling service, will not return.

A nice place in the mall

By Semsema |

This is a nice restaurant to grab a decent meal when at the mall and not into fast food The staff is very friendly The place has an interesting unique menu either in the options they offer or in the ingredients of each dish If you don’t eat pork, this is a pork free place

Disappointing experience after Santa Monica and Fairfax

By Silvita |

Granted, the experience in Santa Monica was outstanding, the experience in Fairfax a little less...so I was very intrigued in what I would experience here... Unfortunately, this is the least good experience of all 3 places. First: It took ages to take our order Second: the server was not really friendly (yes, she smiled but...) Third: the portions were much smaller than in Fairfax and Santa Monica, the pizza not as crunchy as in Fairfax and the flourless chocolate cake with icecream lacked the coconut and spices of one of the other locations. A pity you cannot rely on what you get and that quality of food and people are so dependent on the restaurant you visit despite this being a "chain"...

Great stuff!

By Erik M |

We stopped in, after some shopping in Fashion Village, to have a lunch. The service was OK and the food was the usual goodness associated with the other True Food places we have been before. They were busy and the servers managed well but it seemed to take a bit too long. Overall, the restaurant was beautiful and had a great location. We will be back and likely make this a regular lunch spot when shopping at this mall.

Outstanding spot for vegans and vegetarians!

By 214LisaB |

A friend took us to dinner here and we both loved it. A flat-out carnivore, a gluten-free sometime carnivore, and an almost vegan; we all found something delicious on the menu to eat. There's a large outside dining area and an equally spacious inside area with a full bar. Hubby had the salmon which he said was perfect. I had a beet salad -- very good. Our friend had a curry bowl which she proclaimed "perfect." We will definitely be back to this place.

Delicious and healthy!

By Budoor UAE |

healthy food, great service and amazing ambiance.... smoked turkey wrap was one of the best I jad so far.

Great Food, Service Could Improve

By Cristina O |

Had some trouble getting our table (party of 10). They gave out a table for another big party before us, even though they came later. Felt a little ignored, even thought of going to another restaurant. Other than that... Food was delicious! Had the Red Chili Noodles with Grass Fed Stake, and the Chocolate Cake, yum! Tried the Edemame Dumpligs, Margherita Pizza, Mushroom Pizza, Chicken Sausage Pizza, and everything was great! Serving sizes are enough, and the flavors are well balanced. Will be coming back for sure!

Had better

By JimUtd |

This place models itself on been "green" and that's fine but if that's the case get the food right. I had a chicken salad dish that although was clearly cooked freshly wasn't filling or tasty. Portion size was also an issue. On the flip side my partner is gluten free and she enjoyed her pasta dish. Had a whisky sour cocktail which was awful as well. Admittedly that's my fault for ordering it! Price wasn't great, service was good though. Go to the Cheesecake Factory instead!

Healthy can still taste good

By Thehandsometraveler1 |

We are here for lunch and the service was efficient and friendly. We all ordered some nice California Pinot and the wine was good but a little high in price. We ordered the tacos and the lasagna and all were very good and quite tasty. I would go again.

THE BEST VEGETABLE SALAD I'VE EVER TASTED

By traveltheworldcs |

I've eaten here a long time ago and it was good. But this time I had the seasonal vegetable salad and a ginger drink and both were outstanding. SO GOOD I went to the store to buy everything to try to make it myself. My son had the fish tacos and loved his dish as well. Bravo True Food. You hit it out of the ballpark.

Sustainable and Locally Sourced

By MapleLeafGirl123 |

This was a lovely place. Great food and great atmosphere. Our server was very good, kept us informed about the fresh and locally sourced vegetables. I know many are on the bandwagon of clean and sustainable foods. But all in all, the food was tasty.

Greatly improved menu

By Helen K |

It has been a few years since I last visited this restaurant, basically since my first experience wasn't fabulous. The menu items were okay but very limited for vegans. I met a friend here for dinner and was delighted to find the menu had changed significantly and we had a hard time making a choice. We both selected a wonderful soup and added tofu to it. It was scrumptious! Will be returning!

Healthy, delicious food for the entire family - bring this restaurant to our ciy (Seattle)!

By Jennifer F |

Our family of 5 loved this - including our kids ages 8, 10, and 12. I had the roasted chicken and squash and the broth was simply divine! The food we had here was better than some of the higher-end places we ate during our trip.

Paleo Friendly with options

By MonroeWise |

By far my favorite lunch/dinner spot to eat. I love the food selection. You can taste that everything is fresh (not frozen) and cooked to perfection. The drink menu is even awesome. I recommend the Kale-Aid drink and the turkey burger (on lettuce, no cheese) with sweet potato hash. The lasagna is EVERYTHING too. A must experience. I'll post pictures, enjoy!

Excellent Cuisine - Vegetarians Delight!

By Joanie2030 |

A colleague took treated me to dinner at True Food Kitchen. Wow! There were so many options for vegetarians and vegans, and non-vegetarians can enjoy healthy meat dishes. Atmosphere is appropriate for any business dinner or lunch.

Great food but so so service

By Warrior44 |

We have eaten here twice. The first time there was an older woman hostess and she was absolute pill thank God the server was nice otherwise we were going to be out of there. The server was slow. Second time the male hostess was amazing from the start. The server was nice but slow. The food was fantastic both times.

Healthy restaurant

By Emily B |

Healthy restaurant. If you're looking for clean food, this is the place to go. I came here for brunch with my friends and there were options for all of us. One of my friend's was doing whole30, another girl didn't eat meat. All 4 of us got the avocado toast. It was tasty but small. I highly recommend their juices. I got the Bright Eyes juice.

An excellent choice for healthy and delicious food!

By Michael A |

We had a great experience at True Food! We ordered the bowls and a drink that was recommended by Rachel! Beside being healthy, it was also delicious even though we would have preferred a little bigger portions. The service was truly excellent! Rachel was super nice and very helpful!

Not up to the hype

By leavingAZ2011 |

I had high hopes based on the reviews of True Food kitchen when went to dinner last Wednesday. The restaurant was buzzing and was one of the more attractive mall based restaurants, especially given that it was right next to the parking lot and road. They had done a nice job creating a nice atmosphere. However, the service and food were another story. It took my server forever to get my drink order, in fact my appetizers came out before my beer. While the apps we OK, my main course (sea bass) was dried out and unimaginative. While I requested a second drink, I had to wait again for quite a while and ended up waiting to finish my main course until I flagged down my waiter again to get my drink. By then, the fish was not only dried out, but cold.

Great food

By Juan José |

It is a restaurant that meets hunger, the place is pleasant and the food is very good. Don't expect extraordinary waiter service because they don't know how to serve a glass of wine and only take orders and don't recommend anything. The pizza is very good!

Fresh wholesome food!

By medical |

Stopped for a takeaway without seeing any reviews. Delicious, non greasy, wholesome and fresh. Just the right quantity too. Will highly recommend this place. My daughter must visit when she comes to California!

Questionable Practices.

By jaybarak |

Average to good enough food, appropriate prices for the food, so a fair enough deal on food. Drinks are another story - either watered down in the bottle, or watered down after the pour. This is a common tactic with some bars. The bartender will deny it, but he/she would be lying. If management is aware if this, they are unethical and this place should be avoided. If they are unaware of this, they should fire their bartenders and start with properly trained, honest and ethical employees. Do not assume your customers are stupid. Many are, many are not. I’ve been in the business, I know this trick.

Great in all aspects!

By Maria Letícia M |

Natural and healthy, fancy decoration, friendly staff. Prices are a bit high from average, but concerning the concept and atmosphere, it's ok. I've been there twice in my visit to SD, first I had a veggie burger and second a grass fed meat burger, both were delicious and amazing. Go for their "hang over" juice, even without hang over, tastes delicious and has a beautiful presentation.

Perfect balance of healthy and flavorful; good for special dietary needs

By teptravels |

Visiting the area from out of town, I found myself going to True Food more than once. Folks with special dietary needs like gluten free or vegan will find clearly marked options and friendly, accommodating staff. It's real, filling food (and drinks--including great boozy cocktails) that tastes great and is much more healthy than the kind of heavier, more processed food that's more common at mall restaurants.

Slowest Service Ever

By riceburnergrace |

The food? Really healthy, delicious food. I would love this restaurant if the service wasn't some of the slowest service I've ever had. It took THREE hours to have dinner here. They didn't even take the drink order for 45 minutes after we arrived. Yes, it was a Friday night but three hours is unacceptable. And we had to ask for the check since they weren't in any rush to bring it to us. Unless I have all afternoon to burn, I'm not going back.

healthy foods, great atmosphere

By dnj77 |

Many fresh, healthy, organic options. Vegan, Vegetarian or Gluten Free choices. Great coffee & desserts. It's a large restaurant with space in between the tables .Love the decor & the plants. Awesome plant wall on the outside of the building. Roasted chicken dish was disappointing. The pizza & salads are good.

Nice but could be better.

By Tommy Deen |

A nice sit down venue at the mall. Nice menu with interesting and varied choices. Couldn’t help but get the feeling we were being rushed though. Never before have I ever been asked if I wanted to see the dessert menu mid-mouthful of my main to then have the bill plonked on the table shortly after saying “no thanks” (with a mouthful of food).

nice brasserie in a shopping mall

By nicolas s |

good food, nice service, just gets quite noisy when full. a lovely lunch top in a day of shopping. pleasant tables also outside

My favorite restaurant!

By Rebekah E |

I love true food kitchen! They serve organic food from local farmers. I've never had anything I don't like from here. They make their own drinks as well and they are delicious!

As the banner on the wall says:s. "If it grows together, it goes together!"

By SrGrammyLinda |

On this visit we tried the Sharitake Noodle Soup which the chef split in the kitchen for us. This had a full, rich broth and bountiful noodles, chicken and veggies. The chef also split the Seasonal Ingredient Salad for us which highlighted fresh asparagus, broccolini, roasted cauliflower, chickpeas, pistachios and raisins with a Manchego Sicilian Vinaigrette. True Foods can set the model for making healthy food really taste good.

Amazing - wish there was one near us

By ljr2612 |

We couldn't get into the Cheesecake Factory so decided to come here. Best decision! Our waiter explained the different dishes to us, he was friendly, knowledgeable and excited about what they were offering and the philosophy behind it. We absolutely loved the food - we have two fussy eaters and I was worried our youngest son would not find anything on the menu. We were blown away with the quality and the taste of the food. There wasn't anything that we had we were disappointed with. The menu offers many vegan and vegetarian options - meat eaters won't even notice they are not eating copious amounts of meat - it is that good! The service was outstanding. If you ever get the opportunity to eat at one of these restaurants you should go - you won't be disappointed!

Yum!

By GlobalTutu |

Delicious and healthy food, a really fine wine, and eye candy behind the bar! I arrived via Uber, jet-lagged and hungry (concierge recommendation), and this place did not disappoint. Would definitely come again.

Pricy and quite tasty

By culdesacSanDiego |

I would give this place four stars but deducted a star for high prices and smallish servings. Our group of three had edamame dumplings, great grains bowl, butternut squash soup and turkey burger. My grains bowl was delicious - seasoned nicely, and I could have eaten a second bowl, it was that good. I usually prefer a less expensive restaurant but would consider returning for a special occasion.

Delicious

By sweetpeasue |

Went eat lunch and sat outside. It was a beautiful cool day so outdoor seating was ideal. Our server was fantastic accommodating and friendly. I have a gluten allergy and this restaurant catered to my issue. I ordered a delicious gluten pizza with the intentions of eating only half. I ended up eating the entire pizza. Very yummy!

Must visit

By mjay1989 |

The place is open and clean . It is so interesting . Has very healthy eating options. The service was excellent. We will most probably go again tonight.

Beyond Expectations!

By Nancy P |

When I looked at the menu, I was extremely hesitant, thinking there is no way the food could be good. It was healthy and there really was no way. I was sooooo wrong! In fact, I could not believe how EXCELLENT it was that I went back again within a day! Our waiter, Grant was not only informative and knowledgeable but was very patient! I will find a True Food Kitchen by me as I was from out of state! It was fantastic!

Nice Dîner!

By Cbastien76 |

As usual In USA servers were nice. The place is beautiful. And the food is fresh, simple and food. The Salmon i tried was perfectly cooked (rare) . This restaurant is excellent !

Waste of money and appetite

By cetecea |

First experience at True Food and it was a special occasion celebrating TWO birthdays. True Food knew that it was a special occasion from the reservation. Yet they did NOTHING to acknowledge it or make it special in ANY way. The $13 two ounce mimosa that the server spilled on the table was a terrible way to start the meal. The food was tasty but overpriced. The restaurant is open, airy and clean. The shared sinks for the men's and women's bathrooms are bizarre especially with no door, in view of diners. This was NOT a special meal or experience celebrating TWO birthdays. It was a VERY expensive, disappointing and dissatisfying experience for four guests.

Safe for gluten-free and delicious too

By John K |

They really understand the gluten-free needs of celiacs. Tasty and healthy food with welcoming personnel. A delight to eat outside in the shade. A large venue inside too.

Great Atmosphere

By Maria Letícia M |

Huge variety of healthy food, juices, smoothies, good quality ingredients, nice atmosphere and decor.

Healthy food but expensive

By Amar K |

Good service. Server was very accommodating with our requests. Urban decor Our seating gave us view of entire restaurant Pizza was awesome and we loved to eat it even next day. Panag curry was too light for my taste. We would probably go to Thai restaurant for it

A Day Without True Food is like a day without sunshine’

By David B |

Great place, extensive food and alcohol menu, vibrant ‘kitchen’ atmosphere. I had the poke bowl and mango beer. Interesting tropical combination.

Excellent and healthy

By West1 |

Unique and delicious food and drinks with an emphasis on healthy ingredients. We've been several times and it's always excellent.

Enjoyed our dinner!

By Treeless L |

Friendly, attentive staff. Food was delicious! I had corn tortilla soup. Very different. I expected tortilla strips in the soup but they had ground them up into the soup. I also had Teriyaki Quinoa bowl with shrimp. It was excellent. I wasn't sure what to expect but it turned out delicious. It had shrimp, quinoa, brown rice, broccoli, sugar peas, and other vegetables. Would recommend this place!

Loved the unique menu items.

By Murph211 |

Our first time visiting True Food Kitchen was a treat. Great food, including the cauliflower polenta bowl, fish tacos and more. Slightly more expensive than others, but it's all fresh and presented in a boisterous atmosphere. Loved it!

Open Air Fresh Garden Delights

By John R |

This inside outside restaurant with Semi-circle eat at bar serves up some really great salads with the likes of fresh picked items. We sat at the bar and had excellent service , great pour of chardonnay at a reasonable price. We tried the edamame dumplings. WOW! Nice tasty broth with soft and chewy tender edamame cream inside. It was a nice size for 2 as a snack between shopping..Definitely try some of their large fresh salads because they all looked good. Everyone seems happy and in good moods so I am sure you will enjoy your visit. We did. Cheers,

Dinner on my biz trip

Very modern but classy atmosphere. Nice staffs and tasty but very health savvy foods. I've ordered Grilled Salmon and Grilled Chicken salad. Both were excellen. This restaurant could be excellent choice for those who's really care of organic diets as well as regular guy like myself.

The best healthy food in San Diego!

By Samuel M |

This place is Amazing, the food is great, the service is very good. The poke bowl is fantastic!!!!!! I never thought healthy food could taste this good!!!! The chocolate cake is really amazing!!!

Service excellent, Food OK

By 31Extensivetraveller |

This is a large restaurant with an airy and pleasant atmosphere, lovely and friendly reception and super-friendly waitress by the name of Elisabeth. The light food we had was fresh and well presented, while the chicken-soup is doused with the ever present tomato sauce. I wonder why food can't be had without it.

Healthy favorite

By Alohaoe808 |

Fave place ever! Food is phenomenal, service is great! Had the dashi ramen, a change from the teriyaki quinoa, it wasn’t like traditional ramen, the flavors were intense! A fan of Asian food, this is a healthy spin, flavorful, I added chicken, it was fabulous! My favorite thing here is the edamame dumplings, I could drink the sauce, it’s truffle enhanced and to die for! They offer green juice, kombucha, Matcha horchata, and a ton of organic alcohol, cocktails, and I always feel like I’m getting a healthy, fresh version of anything I order! Definitely recommend!

Love this place

By Shufey227 |

I had the quinoa burger, kale salad and sweet potato hash, pretty good! Burger was different and awkward to eat. Kale salad- awesome! Last time I had the salmon and loved it. I hear the spaghetti squash casserole is amazing and I plan to try it next!

Excellent food, plus healthy!

By E_Panama |

Found this place at the Mall. We were very impressed with everything. The service was great, the menu varied, and the food outstanding. We had the bowls and the pizza, and they were great. The dumplings were also a great appetizer.

Clean Living

By brazilgirl |

My husband and I are not on the "clean eating" bandwagon. We stopped at this restaurant on a whim and were pleasantly surprised by the delightfully fresh flavors and variety. I had a very, very spicy red curry with prawns that was quite memorable. I really enjoyed the dish. My husband had the homemade lasagna, which was comfort food at its best. We had some unusual organic cocktails with ginger , which were refreshing and relaxing. The ambience was casual but nice, as was the service. An outstanding meal.

Outstanding for a Chain

By RealW0rldTraveller |

Decided to go for dinner at True Kitchen based on excellent reviews and we weren’t disappointed. Food is fresh, unique and seasonal. The turkey burger is a highlight and definitely worthwhile trying. The seasonal mushroom and spinach pizza was very nice, but be aware of the heavy garlic.

Up to the hype but still disappointing

By Teren E |

I looked forward to going to True Food Kitchen, believing as I do that healthy food well prepared is the first, most important step to good health. I also admire Dr. Weil's dedication to promoting this through his restaurants. But I was disappointed overall. PROS: The food was delicious. The Green Curry Thai Cauliflower Soup was perfectly balanced with herbs, coconut milk and a touch of spicy heat, putting every other cauliflower soup I've had to shame. The Grilled Vegetable Salad was also delicious, though the selection of vegetables extremely limited. CONS: 1) The salad dressings we asked for on the side were uninspired and too acidic for my tastes. (Besides, the grilled veggies were fine without, having been grilled with olive oil and seasoning). 2) The prices are high given that the portions are actually appropriate and not gargantuan as we've come to expect. 3) The service from all was initially "enthusiastic" but never followed up. We had to ask several times for the salad dressings as well as for a spill near our table being cleaned up. Very unprofessional. 4) The ambience, while tasteful aesthetically, is uninviting and noisy. There is nothing about it that makes me want to return except the delicious soup. Even then, do I really want to spend that much money to feel as though I'm in an upscale cafeteria? Not sure.

Restaurant with a fresh atmosphere!

By Oliveiro R |

What reached out to me at this outlet is the service. It is the benchmark of what should be expected in hospitality. The maitre'd is very friendly and welcoming, even on an extremely busy night where they have made a table available for my family. The waitress Joyce was superb; she understood food and drink flavor and explained it in a way that you share some of her sensory experience. I don't see many people that do that. The food was very good. It was served piping hot in ceramic crockery ... and it was delicious! Most of the food is prepared with fresh produce from the local area. We had the chicken noodle soup which had a different texture because of puréed veggies being used, then I had a teriyaki quinoa with beef, my wife red chili noodles with shrimp and the kids each had chicken with brown rice and quinoa. Oh and my wife LOVED her cucumber martini! The bill was quite reasonable too. I would love to see a similar restaurant in my city!

Then worst disgusting food and servixe

By Der Picknicker |

First time and last time for sure. Nasty food, service zero attention and lastly they refuse their own rewards from inKind and refused to honor $30 of $90 and asked me to call customer service and blamed the problem on third party app. Nothing below one star!!! Kids pizza and adults Pizza same size kids &10 adults &18 and when i asked waitress said oh well u get 8 pieces kids and adults WTH. Hummus side with kids meal has jalapeno for $8 years old and waitress again well one size fit all menu. Kids crisp chicken red on the inside the same waitress nothing I can since it is her first day literally

First visit and definitely not the last

By THE BOTHY M |

The restaurant has lots of open spaces and has views of the kitchen and bars There are lots of veggie and vegan choices as well as a few meat and fish options, Great fresh drinks with ginger and honey, All our food tasted fresh and full of flavour and the service was efficient and friendly

Fresh and unique flavors. Great beverages. Excellent service. Clean restaurant.

By Cassandra C |

We stopped in around 3 so there was hardly anyone inside. Service was great. Audrey was on top of everything and very knowledgeable about the different drinks and food selections. Everything is seasonal, so what we ordered may not be on the menu when you visit. We loved the teriyaki quinoa bowl, but I wasn't a fan of the "fall ingredient salad" - too much raw shredded Brussels sprouts and not enough dressing. The fig and onion tart was great. We also tried their non-alcoholic Pom Chia Limeade and Medicine Man drinks and both were excellent. The squash pie was delicious. There were a lot of great vegetarian dishes available. It's a big place located in the Fashion Valley Mall. Very clean. Even though we are not anywhere near a senior age bracket, we like to dine during the off-times: avoiding crowds/rushes. The service is always way better, the food is always hotter, and the waitstaff is always way more pleasant. We would eat here again.

Great vegetarian selection!

This is a great place to eat for great vegetarian dishes that are fresh, organic, and have an edge. The food and presentation is the best!

Food for the Health Conscience

By Joanie2030 |

Vegetarians, vegans, and gluten-free diners can find plenty of dishes to satisfy any palette. The classy and chic atmosphere is appropriate for business meetings, celebrations with friends, or date night.

Tasty real food.

The restaurant can accommodate large groups. Juices are great and the food is really tasty. The burger is a delicious surprise!

You will love the modern atmosphere of this eatery. The place is open and airy. The menu is varied and everything is fresh. Their drinks are different combinations but very good. From simple fish tacos to pizzas it is all great!

College drop off

We brought our very picky daughter here for lunch while dropping her off at college. She loved it. Great menu. Yummy food.

Delicious food, great patio, perfect choice!

By Laura R |

We almost changed our mind and went elsewhere, but so glad we did not. The pictures made me think it was super casual, more like a sidewalk cafe, but it was perfectly modern and comfortable. We opted for the patio, which is totally heated and has a perfect huge fire pit. The table was warm from the overhead heaters so it was actually more comfortable than inside. Lighting was subdued and the music was pleasantly not overbearing. Service was attentive and our waitress, Becca, delightful, like a family friend--and all the runners, hostess, and almost-waiter when I tried inside first--were genuinely pleasant and on it. Love the menu! I mean, meats like sustainable salmon and grass-fed beef, tofu and vegetarian and gluten free options (pizza crust, pita, tortilla) make it perfect for everyone! All the fresh and healthy options made it hard to choose...so we tried several dishes and all the portions were plenty: Brussel sprouts starter -- sweet and perfectly spicy! Half bowl of curry -- could have been a tad warmer (in reference to both the dish and curry) but totally forgiven because of how yummy it was (plops of black rice and sweet potato cubes both perfectly cooked) Chicken sausage pizza -- lovely tomato sauce (it gets it's own explanation paragraph on the menu!) and the right amount of toppings and brick oven taste on the crust. Spaghetti squash casserole -- that delicious red sauce again with veggies and squash cooked right, not mushy. Couldn't try dessert because we seriously licked the plates clean. Ok, not seriously, but wanted to! Only disappointment is we live out of state so it will be a long time before we get back. Bonus--it's right in fashion valley so we walked around the great shops afterward!

Solid place

Great service food and ambiance, minus the music being extremely boring; nearly put me to sleep. Gloomy SD day, so I sat at the fire pit and enjoyed a burger and a beer for my lunch break from the conference.

Not impressed

By Adrienne V |

Their food is delicious, but I was extremely disappointed with the time it took to get every course of our meal. It was ridiculous how insignificant they made us feel. Not one person apologized.
