Deeeeelicious

My husband wanted ramen during our family vacation to LA and a friend suggested this place. The service was exemplary and the abundant bowl of ramen with pork was absolutely yummy. I went to bed very full and very satisfied.

Delicious ramen - new Tsujita location serves it all day!

By Connie P |

I absolutely recommend Tsujita ramen or tsukemen to anyone who happens to be in the area. First things first: Tsujita LA is a small and cozy restaurant. This means it is almost certain there will be a wait if you go during peak lunch/dinner hours. Tsujita LA only serves ramen during lunch, but earlier this year they opened a second location across the street - Tsujita Annex which serves ramen/tsukemen for lunch AND dinner. Since I typically go to eat in the evening, I find myself at Tsujita Annex. The ramen and tsukemen at both locations are stellar, though slightly different as there are different chefs. The best time to go to avoid a wait at either location is probably right when they open for lunch or dinner. I find that around 7pm or later it gets pretty crowded. Also to note is that Tsujita Annex has even fewer seats than the LA location - it's bar space and two tables, so seating for groups of 4 can be pretty difficult and increase the wait time. I've done it before, but it's probably best to go with 2-3 people. It's delicious food in a small location so it's just one of those places you expect to wait before being seated. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has the time to go!

BROTH IS NOT THE SAME - Quality went down after Chef left!!

By Jason M |

BROTH IS NOT THE SAME It hurts to write this review after years of dining here, but I think it's my duty to give an honest review. I used to be a frequent diner at Tsujita where I knew most of the staff and they knew me. I even learned how to order with their system! I used to go at least once a week if not sometimes twice a week. Unfortunately after Hiroshi (the original chef) left to open a new location, the bowl of tsukemen is definitely not the same. The tsukemen used to be rich, hearty and flavorful. It seems like they aren't constantly simmering the broth to give the depth that ramen broth needs. Now it's WATERY and a bit bland. They've pretty much taken the love and attention that ramen broth needs. Taking shortcuts in the art of ramen may still keep tourists, but leave the true fans of ramen hungry and disappointed. I've given the place a third and fourth shot since Hiroshi left, but it's definitely not the same bowl of ramen that I've learned to love. Rumor has it, the manager has been changing how things are cooked ever since Hiroshi has left... Don't try to manage what you don't know sir... Great run, but after 2.5 amazing years, unfortunately I will no longer be coming back and be taking my tastebuds to the new place in downtown called Ramen Champ.. Check out their tan tan ramen..

more, please

Finally ame here with boyfriend and a friend on a weekend trip to LA around 11.30am on a Saturday. Our friend had been talking up the place for almost two years, and we finally were able to give it a try. The line wasn't too bad since we got there pretty (and we easily found a metered parking spot across the street). We followed our friend's recommendation to order the tsukemen, which is a type of ramen where the broth and noodles are brought out in separate bowls, and you dip the noodles into the broth before eating. The broth is like a flavor sodium bomb, but in a really good way. The noodles are thicker than the average ramen noodle, and the broth (also thicker than most ramen broths) clings to the noodles with each dip. I savored every bite. SO.DELICIOUS. But...definitely not health food. If you want to eat something light, definitely stay away. If you're looking for fatty yumminess and you love ramen, go here and try the tsukemen. Definitely visiting again the next time I'm in LA.

Salty soup, Delicious!!

Reallt delucious, noodles are so al dente, little salty soup, but when combin together, that's stunning!

The best ramen in town

By AdrianSarwono |

We have to wait about 45 minutes but it was worth it. The basic noodle that you slurp is so delicious. We love it. Highly recommended.

Stay away from dipping ramen

By Jason M |

The dipping ramen is way too thick and not by reducing the stock of bones, they definitely put corn starch in there to thicken the broth... I'll go back to try another dish..

Two things I didn't like... the rest was great

By ROG13 |

I'm new to Ramen, but it was delicious. Service good, although a lot of shouting. I guess that's the Asian way. But two demerits: 1) CASH ONLY. They do not take credit cards! What year is this? Come on! I know you want the extra 2% you get with cash, but it is a pain in the noodle not to just lay the card down and have it taken care of. Be kind to your clients and take cards. 2) No reservations. No one over the age of twenty wants to stand in the street waiting for their name to be called. A real pain in the noodle. Take names on the phone like a grown up restaurant. Respect your clients. Yes, the food is very good. But you make it harder than it should be to show up at your restaurant.

The hype is justified

By George Y |

This is supposedly THE place in LA for the sought after Tskukenmen style or dipping Ramen. Lines are always long at peak hours for a spot in it’s tiny indoor dining room or tinier outdoor patio. We went at 1:30 on a Monday and waited 15 minutes. Not bad at all. Two warnings: its cash only and the tsukenmen and tonkatsu ramen are made with pork broth. They also have rice bowls. You can get the tonkatsu but the hub is about the tsukenmen bub! And all diners who tried it agreed it was the best ramen they’d ever had. The best thing is it’s actually cheap. 5 of us ate for $100.

ramen

By sunjoe075 |

My friend who is a foodie highly recommended this place. The name is a little confused. There is an Tsujita Annex at 2050 Sawtelle which looks darker and more formal. We were directed to 2057 Sawtelle Tsujita across the street. The place is not big. But it is bright, clear and very welcoming. The staff are very Japanese like - meaning they are extremely polite and helpful. We had the typical ramen for new comers. It is very tasty. And the portions are just right for lunch. I think this is the new JapanTown in LA. We found a meter parking across the street which takes credit card for 1 hour max. My friend find a place one block away for 2 hours max.

Oily, tasty and very filling

By badwolflibrarian |

Tsukemen here is the best, better than their regular ramen. Ramen broth is probably one of the most flavorful compares to the others, but it is oily. Very filling compared to eating at other ramen joint. The worst thing about this place is the wait time, during busy lunch hours, you'd end up waste more time waiting than actually eating in, avoid busy dining hours.

Excellent Ramen

By ForeignObserver2 |

This place has a very limited menue that basically offers ramen and a thicker noodle dipping souce (Tsukemen). I tried the Char Siu Ramen with extra Chinese mushrooms. The noodles for the Ramen are thin, while the ones for the Tsukemen are thick. One can have them cooked hard, medium or soft. I went for the medium version and that worked for me. When the bowl with the soup arrived I was a bit disappointed as it is smaller than in other Ramen places but the flavor of the broth certainly made up it. Also, the broth is thick and creamy from hours of cooking fatty pork meat in it so that it ends up very filling. One can order extra noodles for a $1.50 surcharge and that comes with extra broth too in case you are not full yet, While I loved the dish I could not eat it very often as it simply is very rich. Service was friendly and efficient but expect a wait as seating is limited.

Great tsukemen, but needs a little oomph

By SpicySoulKalei |

I've been coming here for years, ever since I discovered real Tsukemen in Tokyo. In the past, this was the closest I'd ever come to that delicious, mouthwatering tsukemen I'd get in Tokyo. I was happy with it. I'd wait outside for hours in the cold sometimes waiting for my turn to come into this place. This place remains unchanged, which can be good sometimes. It's classic, consistent taste and quality. However....MANY restaurants have now "UP'd" their game and many are much better taste and noodles wise when it comes to Tsukemen. Their broth is good, not complicated, but simple, but not much depth to it. The noodles are great. My advice, try Tsujita if you're just starting out on your tsukemen journey. You won't be disappointed. Go right when they open, or actually a little before, put your name down, and hopefully you won't have to wait too long.

Cool Tsukemen Experience

By qhunnyb |

Finally got to try this much raved about noodle place in Sawtelle. I always see a long line to get in to this restaurant. We came in for dinner and was able to beat the crowd. Hubby and I ordered Char Siu Tsukemen with Spicy Tuna Don and my cousin got the regular Tsukemen with Salmon Don. The Noodle dish will fill you up but having the bowl sure help break up the flavor of this very delicious but rich sauce. I was told that you eat the tsukemen by dipping your noodles to the sauce then when you have eaten half the noodles you squeeze lime in the noodles dip it in the sauce and when the noodles are completely gone they take your sauce and make it into a broth. I followed the directions exactly and it was perfect. Squeezing the lime mid way gives the dish a depth and change in palette that you need otherwise you will get tired of the heaviness of the sauce. The spicy tuna was very fresh with the right amount of fire that also helped break up the flavor of the tsukemen.

Best Ramen I've had so far.

By sleekmr3 |

The best Ramen I have had yet. The only other good place for Ramen I can find is in Hawaii. When ever I'm in the area I must stop by here. They only serve the Ramen from 11a-2p. Dinner time is a different menu. Of 4 attempts at eating here I have only been successful 2 times. Last time I came when it barely closed for lunch and I came for dinner and found out they have a different menu for dinner. I'm not a Ramen fanatic, but this is really good.

Excellent noodle, broth a bit too salty

By CLeaf |

The texture of noodle is excellent, and has a very nice aroma, very al dente. However, the broth is very salty to my taste and spicy. Order with an egg, it is cook to perfection, the egg yolk just flow deliciously.

Nice ramen

By truffles444 |

Pretty good ramen for being on vacation. Had the spicy rice and the pork ramen. The pork was nice and tender and it’s was nice

Cooled broth jelled noodles...

By WildAsAMarchHare |

Came here with some friends, some who claimed it was the best ramen and dipping ramen in LA, but wasn't convinced. Tsujita isn't somewhere I'd come back to. Its not bad but its nothing special either. The broth wasn't all that great, which I'd heard was what they were distinguished for, and it quickly cooled down. This had the unfortunate consequence of jelling my friend's noodles, and underwhelming the rest of us. The eggs were also a little grey? We also came as a group of four and instead had to sit in sets of two or wait an additional two hours after having waited a hour already. Our waitress was nice though. Wouldn't recommend, wouldn't come back, but didn't have an awful time.

Made me unwell, avoid!

By Reviewer W |

I only ate the cold noodles that day because I didn’t get a lunch break at work. They were nice but not amazing. Fast forward to the next day and I had food poisoning! What was worse is that I had to catch a flight back to Uk with a bad stomach and feeling nauseous. Service was not great too - the waiter was hard to understand plus we had to request paper menu because the phone signal in the place wasn’t great and there was no WiFi offered. I can’t remember ever writing a bad review for a restaurant but I definitely had food poisoning from this place. Avoid.

Disappointed

By Tunaidi |

Tsujita Annex is known for their tsukemen, but I was unfortunately disappointed. There's a strong sourness in the broth, and it isn't as condensed as traditional tsukemen. The regular tonkatsu ramen was a little better. No appetizers are on the menu, and hour-long waits here make less sense. The saving grace is that the noodles are larger and chewier than at other ramen joints.

Delicious

By Anthony |

Great food!!! 1st time there and it tasted delicious. I will definitely go back again. The service was very good.

The flavor of the dipping broth is savory and like nothing I've ever tasted before.

By Rebekah H |

The rich, umani flavored tonkatsu soup is slowly simmered for 60 hours. Seafood is later added for some subtle sweetness. The result is a very condensed, uncommonly flavorful pork broth. The chasu (braised pork belly) is unbelievably tender, salty, sweet and fatty, the soft boiled egg is cooked beautifully and the noodles are prepared to perfection: served cool, al dente, bouncy and chewy. Tsujita specializes in tsukemen, which is a deconstructed ramen dish with the noodles and soup served in separate bowls. The noodles, as previously mentioned, are served cool and eaten after dipping in the bowl of soup. The purpose for eating it this way is because the tsukemen soup is prepared extremely dense and by dipping bite-size servings of the noodles into the soup, the flavor of the soup will not overpower the noodles. There is the option to order a traditional ramen dish in a further reduced tonkotsu broth. I would highly recommend trying the tsukemen, however, and savor the experience of enjoying the chewiness of noodles longer since it is not cooking in the broth. It is unequivocally one of the best ramen dishes I have had and Tsujita LA Artisan Noodle is on my very short list of must-try restaurants in Los Angeles.

Best tsukeman ramen

By jocelynlee |

Best.Tsukeman.I've.Ever.Tasted Granted, I'm not a tsukemen expert by any stretch of the imagination (vongole, yes. tsukemen, not yet), but i've had my fair share of tsukeman and ramen in general. Tsujita was highly recommended by an LA friend and I was sooo excited to try it on this trip to LA. Highlights: - The lines get CRAZY long. Don't come in a huge group. Lose the hanger-ons; come alone or with 1 friend. - Be there by 11a when it opens or risk waiting app 30 mins++; longer for bigger groups. - We stumbled around at 11.30a on a Saturday and there were tons of ppl already in line; thankfully, there were only 2 of us and our wait was app 20 mins. We were seated at the bar - Tsukemen (dipping ramen) is Only served during lunch- don't come here for dinner expecting it. - I had the Charsiu Tsukeman with a side of bamboo shoots and mushrooms- way too much food. Share your sides - The lime. Wow. I don't even know what to say about the lime on the ramen. When we first saw it, we were like...Lime? Really? Once we squeezed it onto the ramen and dipped the noodles into the broth, it was completely clear to us: The acid from the lime cuts the salty fatiness of the broth- Brilliant! Once we realized the beauty of the lime, we requested a plateful of them - The noodles were perfectly done- chewy and somewhat al dente. The bowl of noodles is huge - The broth. WOW. Evidently, they boil it for 60 hours (WHAT?!?!?!). The soup is thick, salty and very flavorful. Boiling water can be added to the broth to cut down on the saltiness. I didn't do that, but I'd say it was very salty; maybe next time i'll add water. I was just SO hungry, i didn't want to waste any time devouring the bowl of noodles. Highly recommend if you like ramen and especially if you love tsukeman ramen

Very rich!

By Karen B |

Four of us went here, taken and recommended by two, you have to wait in line but there's a good coffee shop around the corner where you can wait. You broth is good and very rich but it wasn't piping hot. Hence adding the noodles, meat etc as you go along makes it even cooler. It would be so much better if they gave you half the broth and then came and topped it up. It was very tasty but my slices of pork were very fatty, the last one being all fat so I left it. Yes I'd probably come again but it wasn't fantastic,

Tasty Ramen broth, but otherwise so-so...

By srarakawa |

Tried this place on a recommendation from a friend who knows I love Ramen. To "skip to the chase", the Ramen broth was a solid "7" (Tonkotsu base). The pork (chashu) was average as well as the noodles (advertised fresh). The noodle freshness as well as the size (a bit thinner than average), makes for a tastier experience, though. You can get a bare bones soup or order all the fixin's. The thing that was a "minus" was the portion size. It was about 2/3 of what you would normally get at most other places (which I have come to expect), but the price was "on par" of most Ramen places. Don't get me wrong, this place is not bad, but all the hype I heard about it, does not seem warranted. The service was fine, although the waitress got my order wrong (twice - maybe she was having a bad day), and the atmosphere was typical sidewalk cafe/bistro style. The parking situation is not that good because there is a lot going on there, so you might want to set aside a few minutes extra for that and a possible waiting line for a table. Finally, cleanliness could have been better, the tabletops and condiment containers were sticky and there was trash on the floor. I didn't check out the restrooms, so...

Crazy noodly goodness

By Edmund1020 |

I love ramen and now I know the best. The Tsukamen style ramen here will set the standard by which all Japanese noodles will be compared. The style gives you cold noodles to be dipping in a extremely rich broth/gravy. Add a squeeze of lime and you are approaching noodle heaven. Might be too rich for some of you. Their regular ramen is less rich but still has lots of porky goodness. An absolute must do.

Popular ramen and tsukumen spot

By Shanelle |

Popular ramen and tsukumen (dipping ramen) spot on Sawtelle. Came here on a Saturday around 12:30 to grab lunch with a friend, who absolutely loves this place. I suggest getting on the waitlist beforehand on Yelp so that you don’t have to wait for too long, otherwise you can just get on the list in the machine located inside to the right. There’s a canopy with some chairs where you can sit and there’s menus available to peruse. One of the workers will take your order while you’re outside so that when you do get seated, you’ll get your food within like 5 minutes. The tsukumen options just vary in toppings, but the broth and noodles are the same. You are able to specify medium or large noodles, but note that the medium is already very filling. Note that they do take credit cards and there’s a gender neutral bathroom available in the back. It was about a 25 minute wait, but the perfectly cooked noodles are so wonderfully chewy it’s okay to wait. The dipping sauce is super fatty and definitely not healthy, so it’s a treat yo’self type of meal. Service was friendly and I suggest parking in the lot by the Starbucks, otherwise it’s street parking.

The broth is strong in this one

By Haitwun |

Have you ever tasted pork broth that had been cooking for over a day? Cause their broth is super strong and that is what makes it good. Tsujita's ramen comes separate from the broth because the broth is so thick, so strong that it will knock the wind out of your chest. The broth is meant to be consumed as a dipping sauce for your ramen noodles. Once you are done eating the noodles, you can ask the waiting staff for some water to dilute the broth so that you can drink it without dying. I love that Tsujita offers a combo meal that includes ramen and a rice bowl. I had the broiled pork bowl. The pork was fatty, greasy and super delicious. Their pork is probably unhealthier than bacon but who cares when it tastes this good. Parking is on the street only and difficult to manage. I had to park 4 blocks away and walk. Luckily, there was no wait to be seated. Tsujita has two locations right across the street from each other.

So much noodles!!!

By sheila a |

Great place to eat! I had the tsukemen and the soft boiled egg was perfectly cooked. There is also ramen which I didn't get a chance to taste, but I'm pretty sure it's just as good. I recommend to go early because there is usually a line, especially for dinner. Great atmosphere.

Very nice staff. Not too crowded.

By luisb2452018 |

Very nice staff. Not too crowded. Had the charsiu tsukemen. Cold noodles with hot broth with 104 degree weather. First time trying this type of meal. Must say, really tasty. I enjoyed it a lot. Thank you Tsujita for the great meal.

Best tsukemen hands down

By Cyngtz |

I´m a big ramen enthusiast and this one was hands down the best ramen I´ve had in a good while, and specially the best I had during my trip to LA and SF. Even though you have to wait a little while in line, it takes you max 30 minutes to get in and about 20 minutes to eat the whole thing. I would recommend you go for the smaller size even if you are a big eater, the larger portion is just way too much.

Ramen...Ramen... .

By Jerry P |

There are many Ramen shops in LA.. .but this one has a cult following unlike any other. It is worth it though. The Noodles are made fresh for each order... and the broth (soup as it is called) is rich and smooth no bitterness at all... .just wonderful.. worth the wait at least ONCE.

One of the best

By Kristi Z |

Being Japanese I am often looking for a good ramen place. In Japan some of the best ramen I have had was actually at the hospital where my uncle worked. Of course ramen in Japan is very different from ramen here in LA. Ramen in Seattle is different than here as well, both are more clear broth with thinner noodles. Ramen here has a more heavy broth and I am always in the search for the best broth. I would say the broth is extremely important since a lousy broth means a lousy ramen. However, the noodle is equally important.Even if the broth is good, if the noodles aren't, the whole experience isn't great. Here at Tsujita the broth is heavy and thick with just a hint of heat. I am a wimp when it comes to heat. Plus my digestive system can't take it. I couldn't stop drinking the broth in the end even though I was quite full from eating the noodles. There was such a deep flavor in the broth and as good as my palate is, I didn't quite discern a couple of the seasonings. Which is as it should be. Though I tried. It was absolutely delicious! I would pass on the noodles and just eat the broth with a couple of soft boiled eggs in it. I wasn't a fan of the thick noodles. I like the more thinner noodles that have an egg base. I forgot to ask but I don't think these noodles are made fresh there. Now that would be an even better ramen dish if they did. The Tsukemen style of dipping the noodles into the broth is new for me. I love the concept of it. We got the bamboo shoots to add to the experience of our noodles and it reminded me of Japan. The woody texture of the shoots and the saltiness was just perfect to add the ramen. The soft boiled egg in the broth was perfection. I could have eaten 5 more of those. Overall we would definitely go back. Best broth so far.

Heavenly tasting experience!

By BruceSF40 |

Life altering experience! Never had ramen like this before! The Tsukemen is so well balanced with the creaminess of the broth and perfected firmness/chewiness of the ramen. Then try adding a couple of drops of lime juice to the ramen and it's another sensation for your taste buds that they will find that is truly heavenly. We found the Tonkatsu was just as pleasing. The infused soft boil egg was perfect. Char-Shui melts in your mouth. Dining area is meant for small groups. Even though there was a 20-30 min. wait, the whole experience was worth it.

Quality ramen

By Khoi N |

If you aren't sure where to dine just walk around this area and you'll see the long line outside of this location. My friends came on a weeknight and the wait was almost 45 minutes for a party of 4. I knew the quality here was going to be top notch once I saw the Sun noodle yellow crates. My friend and I shared the charsieu tsukemen and the charsiu ramen. I personally love a fatty broth and they do it right here. Not too salty and very savory. I liked my tsukemen more just because I like to dip my noodles and taste my broth separately. The charsiu is lightly torched and the cut is very thick. The broth is rich and noodles had the perfect texture with chewiness level. We really enjoyed our experience here. Seating can be tight, but its a fun place to enjoy some quality ramen, beer or sake with some friends. Prices are reasonable and I don't think you can find another noodle place in the area with the same level of They have outdoor seating with the heating lamps as well. The wait can be long for some, but there are some cafe and shops within a block to kill some time. I'll definitely be back to try their other broths and toppings.

it never gets old eating here!

By Cyngtz |

Last time we visited was a few years ago and my husband had dreams of coming again for the tsukemen. We arrived in LA after a delayed flight and came straight from the road, it is always the right choice to come to Tsujita, the ramen is one of the best and definitely worth traveling for. We did not have to wait long, maybe 10-15 minutes and we walked around japantown and visited all the little stores. Once you´re called, your steaming bowl of broth comes within 5 minutes.

Tsukoman

By Edmund1020 |

Still the best ramen in town. they amazing tsukoman style ramen is out of this world. it might be too rich for some and really filling but I gotta have it.

Does not meet expectation

By Yongki |

Seeing how popular this ramen place was, I came there with so much expectation. But after waiting in line for half an hour, I have to say that the experience was a bit of disappointment. Let's just say I have eaten better ramen in some other places before. Although the restaurant ambiance was nice, I won't likely come back there again.

Nope

By shawnCA |

I have tried many ramen restaurants, and I can say that the ramen I got here is definitely one of my least favorite. To start, the ramen noodles are not what I am used to, they are thick, more like chow mein noodles. The ramen broth is very fatty, what's worse is that it has a gamey smell and taste. The char sui is also very fatty, for me it was only only about 30% edible. I won't be returning, can't recommend.

Good Ramen

By WhateverLolaLoves |

I thought it was okay. I was very lucky in finding parking but generally speaking parking and driving around the restaurant is a nightmare. We had to wait to get seated which I don’t mind but whoever cleaned our table used a dirty, mildew-y rag. The table was wet when we sat down. And the table smelled of mildew which made my food really not palatable. For a very small place, it was pretty difficult getting our waitresses attention.

Love the Ramen

By H4917QD |

Absolutely delicious lunch at this place for 4. We were quick in and out but didn't feel rushed. Would definitely return.

Best ramen I have had so far

By sleekmr3 |

Highly recommend coming here for some Ramen. The Tsukemen ramen is only served during lunch time. I believe from 11am to 1pm. I can't compare with ramen in Japan, but I have had ramen in NorCal, Hawaii, & SoCal and this place is my favorite.

Ramen in LA? Accept no substitutes - but please note this is a CASH ONLY place

By LV_Lee |

Awesome food and terrific selections. For ramen in LA, this is the place. Please note that this restaurant is a cash-only establishment.

Delicious ramen

By Nelson K |

My daughter and I ate lunch at Tsujita on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated at the counter after about a 20 minute wait. We had studied the menu and knew what we wanted: tonkatsu ramen for me and Cha siu ramen for my daughter. We were served our drinks and within 5 minutes our steaming bowls of deliciousness arrived. Tender, unctuous pork with seaweed, tender noodles, and the best broth I have had. I also enjoyed some nice pickled ginger and spicy leaves as condiments added to the experience. I would like to try the tsukemen next time...

awful

By Victor B |

I went to Tsujita Annex, the "overflow" restaurant across the street from Tsujita. The tsukemen was absolutely awful--overwhelmingly garlicky, and the broth served lukewarm. First I told the waitress that the broth was too garlicky, and she just said "sorry". I really should have sent it back. Then I told her it needed to be warmed up and she did take it away and brought it back a little warmer, but still not hot. I ate the noodles, which were good, but I couldn't eat much of the garlic filled broth. There was no flavor at all other than overwhelming garlic. About the bottom fifth of the bowl was ground up garlic settled down. As we were leaving after paying I told the cook that the broth was much too garlicky and he just said "sorry". Neither the waitress not the cook offered any resolution such as preparing a new bowl or giving me credit towards a future visit or waiving the charge. Nothing. I was so disappointed after hearing good things about this place. Terrible customer service. Extremely unprofessional staff. And don't think that I don't know what ramen broth should be like: I lived in Japan for four years. No one in Japan would accepted a bowl like this. I shouldn't have either. In hindsight I should have had the sense to walk across the street to talk to the manager and tell him or her what had happened. I'm guessing that this cook, who is not Japanese, is inexperienced, but that's not an excuse for awful food and awful service.

Excellent Noodles

By FrequentTraveller034 |

We decided to walk down Sawtelle to find a Japanese eatery. Lines everywhere on a Sunday evening! On a whim, we decided to join the line at TsujitaLA and, once seated, ordered their vaunted Char Siu Tsukemen. There was a go-to guide on the table showing how to eat the dish. The Char Siu was plentiful and delicious, and the dipping sauce equally savory. The noodles were dense and delectable, along with the bits of goodness in the sauce bowl. The server came around mid-meal and suggested fresh chopped garlic and Thai pepper. These added another nice dimension to the dipping sauce. I’m only adept at chopsticks 101, and I needed more expertise to handle these particular noodles and their immersion in the dipping sauce. I think I got more on the table that I ate (see photo). These places on Sawtelle only seem to take cash which is a bummer, but the crowds indicate that the restaurants know that they don’t need to accept credit cards.

Very popular

By wdl |

Since the last time we have been to Tsujita, we have been to some very good ramen joints, so we are downgraded the rating a bit, even though the quality did not change, but just to reflect the tougher competition of the "ramen space." It is still a good ramen, probably the most well known in Sawtelle (they seem to own a couple of other restaurants on the street), and they even have an annex serving the same food - that is where we went last time). The environment is good, it is always crowded, but we came an hour before closing and there were no lines. Actually, we stopped at Tsujita this time even before checking in to our hotel, as it was on our way. There is a parking garage not far from the joint, but we were able to find street parking. I think the more different entry is the tsukemen, a thick ramen that comes with the sauce/soup that you actually dip and mix. But they also have the more traditional ramen bowl. The ramen is good, does not top our favorites (e.g., ramen nagi), but does a very good job, and if the lines are manageable, it's a pretty solid option and definitely a to-go place.

Disappointing and not worth the hype

By Gargleblaster42 |

Really sorry but just don't get what the fuss is all about. Went expecting something great and found the ramen to be very ordinary and dull and just way too salty. They offered to water down my broth to make it less salty but by that time I could barely stand another bite. Food edible but really dull. I've only ever eaten ramen many times in Japan and this is a poor shadow. They must be loosing touch with their roots in LA. Perhaps it's priced OK in comparison with other places here but to my mind it's too expensive for a few bits of meat floating in salt with noodles. Nice service but food sadly not oisshi-des at all.

Soo good!

Like I have stated before I am a Ramen snob! This place, "Tatsu" and "Daikokuya" are in a tie for first place. Second place is Shin Sem Gumi. Killer Noodle is another great one. Tsujita LA Artisan Noodle has the most richest broth of them all! Do not drink a lot of it as I have done before!! It is the fattiest broth I have ever had at a ramen place, but it's so worth it! The noodles are fat to absorb all the juices! The thickest noodle I have seen at any ramen place and it's good! They have the best seasoning on the table that I add in by the spoonful! It is the best seasoning that I can't find anywhere else it's called Onikasu. Great place, small and friendly and always a wait, but again worth it!! I tried some of the sides but not much that I really like, but I don't care all I need is the ramen! The ramen I get here is the Charsiu Ramen. My favorite Ramen in order and why! To be honest 1-3 are a tie but if I had to choose! 1. Daikokuya- I get the regular ramen. It has medium noodle size. Also they have the best side of fried rice and my favorite side salad ( it comes as a meal) amazing Gyoza also 2. Tatsu- The bold Ramen is my favorite! Small to medium noodle and they have the BEST Pork Bun I have ever tried. Their side of fried rice is also good just not as good as Daikokuya or Shin Sem Gumi. 3. Tsujita Annex- The fattiest broth I have ever had in a ramen, but that's what makes it so amazing. Thickest noodle I've had in a ramen and great! I didn't really like any side dishes here, but no need the ramen is it's full experience on its own. They have my fav seasoning here called Onikasu I can't find it anywhere and I add it to the ramen by the spoonfuls! 4. Shin Sem Gumi- I get the original ramen. Think noodles like angel hair. They have a great side of miso paste that I add to the ramen. They have one of the best sides of fried rice just like Daikokuya and they have THE BEST fried chicken with Goma sauce and yuzu pepper sauce ( ask for both sauces) 5. 5. Killer noodle- Tokyo style with soup is my favorite! Then their Downtown with soup style ramen my second fav of theirs! Great and amazing ramen.

Where have all the Pork fat gone in LA? Its at Tsujita!!!

By Steve C |

I do not know if Paula Deen would have ever eaten ethnic food due to her racist views, but lets focus on the Paula Deen of old. She would have promoted this restaurant just for the mere fact that they love to use pork fat. I mean the soup was filled pork fat, even the dipping sauce. I am not saying Pork fat is bad as far as taste, but for health reasons. I gave it a four star! I always say if you know what you are getting and still go. That is all that matters! Love the taste.

Just so-so

By chgo919 |

The wait wasn't long on a early afternoon when other restaurants were not yet open. We were served rather quickly as well. As someone who has eaten at a number of ramen shops, I don't know that I'd even put this on a list to return to it. Broth was ok, but smelled like gym socks. Wasn't as flavorful as I've had at other places. Also a little disappointed in the lack of add-in options.

Worth the wait

By Eric L |

I argue with my wife all the time about standing in line for food. I don't blame her. She grew up in a country where you had to stand in line for toilet paper and occasionally bananas at certain times of the year. This is one of the few place she will tolerate a line because the ramen is just that darn good. The noodles are the real star, cooked al dente with just the right amount of bite. The broth is super rich and surprisingly not as hot (temperature wise) as you would expect. You can kick it up with fresh garlic or the red pepper powder. Every time I go, I tell myself, just order the regular, it's big enough. But I always get the large anyway, because I don't go that often. And really, with all the pork fat in the broth, it's not something I should be eating on a regular basis. But, oh, it is delicious, even if there is a line. The good thing is that they usually take your order while you're waiting, so once you finally sit down the wait time for your food isn't that long at all.

Amazing Ramen!

By RPK89 |

I love Ramen, and when a GF told me she would take me to the best ramen in LA, I got excited. We didn't have to wait too long for a table, which was nice, and once seated, the service was quick and friendly. I had the tsukemen (as you do when you visit Tsujita), and it was incredible... the best I've had outside Japan. The noodles were so fresh, and the flavour of the broth was heaven. If you find yourself on Sawtelle, make sure you dine at Tsujita. The price, the quality, the atmosphere. It made for an extremely memorable night. I will be back

Yummy ramen

By Palmtreeslover |

My son, who is a ramen lover, found this noodle place during our visit to Los Angeles and we are so glad we got to eat there. The line was long but it moved quickly since the menu is limited. The pork based broth was delicious and there was a lot of slurping going around. Well worth the wait.

Tsukemen was excellent!

By jlab4949 |

Waited about 30 minutes for a table, but well worth it! Tsukemen (dipping noodles with pork) was perfect with a thick savory broth and firm noodles. The broth apparently simmers for 60 hours - it achieves wonderful flavor and a thick consistency that sticks to the noodles as you dip them and slurp them up. Delicious!! Staff were super friendly and attentive too!

Best japanese noodles in town

By ChezCarrere |

The line out the door tells you the level of passion people have for this place. Basic location but the focus is all about the food. Portions are big so come with an appetite. Also, arrive at non peak hours to have a more manageable wait before being seated. We always go to the bar next door for a pre meal beverage.

Delicious noodles in a busy environment

By WahooHoward |

Their signature noodles are delicious, and promptly served. The place is quite popular, with a good number of tables plus a small counter; there's also a nearby satellite location or two.

Very tasty ramen

By JT3689NJ |

We ordered char Sui tsukemen. It came with noodle and char siu (pork) on one bowl, soup and egg with sauce on another bowl. We dipped our noodle into the sauce to eat. They can add hot water to sauce so it become soup but we were too full. The portion is very generous (lots of noodles and pork). Pork is very tender. The egg is the highlight. Egg white is like hard boiled egg and the yolk is liquid. Very tasty! The restaurant itself doesn't have air conditioning but they provide paper fan on each table for customer to use.

Huge portion

By Gudmund S |

I tried this restaurant while in LA(Sawtelle Area), and the soup was rich and tasty, made with a pork bone base(Jiro style ramen). I’ve also been to their location in Shibuya, Japan, where the seafood-based soup was amazing and went so well with the thick dipping noodles

Very flavorful!

By wanderlustRN |

Love their tsukemen! We came here late on a Friday night and this place was packed! Street parking is definitely a premium. Our party of 8 waited for about 40 minutes before being seated, but we were able to order while waiting so we got our food fairly quickly. The soup is so yummy and flavorful. Adding lime to it makes it taste even better! We've only been to this place twice, but the next time we're in SoCal, we'll come back for sure!

Best ramen... PERIOD.

By Rich S |

I've had some great ramen in my time, including a trip to Tokyo. But nothing matches the flavor to Tsujita's dipping ramen. Word on the street is that they boil their broth for 60 hours. This makes the pork unbelievably tender and flavorful. Usually, when people rave about a place before I get to try it, I always leave disappointed. Not so with Tsujita. I went in expecting a miracle of flavor... and somehow, it still exceeded my expectations. Seating inside is limited so you might be better off going during the week if you don't want to wait too long. But it's worth the wait if it comes down to that. If you're in LA and looking for great ramen, look no further than Tsujita.

Great ramen!!!

By Russ_Cathy |

Our friends took us to Little Osaka and had a late ramen which I'm not accustomed to. I just hate eating late but this hit the spot! Had the Tsukemen with soft boiled eggs and it was wonderful. The egg noodle was al dente and the broth's consistency was delicious. Adding to the taste was their home blend onikasu (red spice) if you prefer that extra heat. We enjoyed our dishes and will surely return when back in the LA area.

My favorite place!

By yokosanla |

It is my favorite Tsukemen place. The noodle is really wide like Udon noodle. I always forget about that and order "large" and die when I eat a half of them lol I understand that people saying it is too much fat but if you are not good at fat/oil, you can just order small size and eat less. I love to see cooks are cooking without any "dead movement". It is like watching dance! The only thing I don't like is serves tries to clear the table out as soon as possible and it made me to feel they want us to leave soon. However, I do understand that coz they have tons of people waiting outside and ramen shop is not the place for stay soooooo long even you finished eating.

NOT FOR THE WEAK HEART!

By dhlchung |

We have tried ramen numerous times in Japan as well as in other major cities of Asia and we found the ramen here a little too rich for our taste. On a weekend nights, the average wait is close to an hour and I am not so sure if it is worth the wait although the Angelinos seem to think it's par for the course and well worth it. The ramen with char-siu comes in a huge serving, at least 50% larger than the average restaurants. The noodle is also about 50% thicker than average ramen, quite chewy but on the heavy side. To top it off, the char-siu is on the fatty side so the serving in the very heavy fatty pork broth makes for a very high cholesterol inducing dish and definitely not for persons with heart issues! The tsukemen noodle being served do look lighter and thinner, perhaps the better selection for this restaurant. The Sawtelle neighborhood is interesting and has many other choices of Japanese restaurants.

Delicious Tsukemen

Absolutely delicious!!! Will definitely be back to eat the tsukemen again. Haven't had anything like it before. Can't wait to dine there again.

Top ramen in Sawtelle (Little tokyo part 2)

By wdl |

We haven't been in LA for a while and I was a little surprised to see a whole street with Japanese restaurants a la little tokyo on your way to Santa Monica. I thought it was quite mandatory to have a meal there, and we opt for ramen. It seems that Tsujita LA is big in Sawtelle, owning several stores. We went to the Tsujita La Artisan Noodle Annex, which has not entries in TA, but it's close enough in this entry. The ramen is very good and has a very large serving size - almost could not finish my tsukemen. As a ramen place, I will rate as a 4 - it's a bit too mass produced - but it still a very good and popular ramen - lines were very long. If you like Japanese food, I recommend doing a visit to the Sawtelle area once, it was quite entertaining.

It's good ramen

By bbbbbqqqqq |

The ramen here is good but the broth is so fatty that it might turn some people off. Because of the fat the portions look small but will fill you up quickly so you might want to share a tsukumen ramen portion if you don't enjoy feeling stuffed. Do be prepared to wait in line for 10-30 minutes if your party is larger than 1 person.

A must in L.A.

By gmbc76 |

I went to little Osaka with a Japanese friend and spotted this place and had to go to it. I'm a big fan of japanese food and ramen and must say that it felt good to be surrounded by all japanese people in this place. This is a great place to try Tsukemen. If you run out of noodles and still have soup don't be afraid to ask for more noodles. This place is the real deal. Beer is good.

Rich Rich Rich

By cnklhd |

The dipping sauce is fantastically rich and meaty - the noodles are snappy and buoyant. The combination is just about perfect. The lime and chili powder help bring liveliness and contract to the noodles. This is no a bowl of stunt noodles where they just pile on heaviness - but a real porky and richly satisfying bowl of noodles built upon great technique and ingredients. The char sui was absolutely sumptuous - best I've had in a ramen.

Great food, but stronger A/C needed

By Brooklynite_Abroad |

This is an excellent Japanese noodle bar. There will be a wait, but the food is excellent. We had the chopped spicy tuna on rice as an appetizer and the tsukemen. This was my first tsukemen experience, which was amazing! If you love ramen, try tsukemen and try it at Tsujita. One warning, the A/C at this small restaurant is not strong enough to cool it sufficiently. You will be sweating while you are eating. The food is worth it though.

The Best Ramen in LA!!

I am a vegetarian. They had vegetarian ramen!!! Right off the bat, that was a big plus. The flavors were soo amazing. I was so full but still ate the whole bowl!

Still Remembering The Deliciousness!

By 52marv |

OH MY. This is not just a bowl of Ramen Noodles. This is a multi stage discovery of how something as simple as hot soup and noodles can rise to a sublime level. In a word: YUM. My teens picked this place based on reviews and we all loved it! The broth, the noodles, the flavoring and meat, everything was amazing! We don't have places like this where we live. I'm so glad we ate here. The staff is nice, but they seem overworked and understaffed. We saw our waitress rushing around, and she tried to be as responsive as she could. I think they need more staff. Delicious food aside, there are some things to note: 1. Parking is horrendous. 2. If you have seafood allergies, there is one pork based dish you can have. Most dishes are based on a seafood/pork broth. 3. If you keep kosher, I don't believe there are dishes without pork. 4. This is a small space. We ate outside, which was pleasant, but we were pushed up against the potted plants, which was a bit uncomfortable. 5. Expect long wait times. All in all, I highly recommend Tsujita

Ramen

Good ramen on sawtelle street with many choices. Pork was very fatty so that’s why 3 stars. Menu said bbq pork that’s impossible as it clearly was boiled and was mostly fat. Other than the fatty pork the broth was yummy

NOT THE NOODLE PLACE AT NIGHT

By LovesTravel51 |

Went to Tsujita LA for dinner the other night and should have suspected something as there was no line. Seems that the ramen I was stalking had moved across the street to the ANNEX (see other review). Typical Japanese sushi bar menu and ordered some suchi and udon soup w/ tempura. The sushi was unique in that it was only vegetables. The udon and broth were not distinguishable from other udons In the area and the tempura was plentiful but very greasy. The bill was very expensive (someone noted they charged $5 for hot tea - yes they do) for what one received. The lines during the day are for the ramen, that moves at night across the street.

Eat Before You Come Here

By Toa B |

Say, you just got out of prison and somehow you find yourself at Tsujita in Sawtelle of all places. You're hungry and tired and you want nothing more than a hot bowl of ramen, right this minute. It's been almost 15 years since your last bowl of Ramen. Well, I got news for you my friend. Best you commit another crime and head back to prison, because that's how long it's going to take from the time you put your name on the list to the time you actually get seated. I kid you not. Seriously, this place is packed at all times of the day. We were here around 2pm on a Saturday and there were a few people in line waiting to get in. Not feeling hungry so we decided to come back here later in the night. We had everything planned out. Put our name down on the wait list, walk along Sawtelle and grabbed some finger food. We were gonna game the system. We make it back to Tsujita around 8pm, put our name down. #28 on the list, I believe and off we went. We walked to FUGU sushi and got some sushi and then headed over to yakitoriya to pick up a few sticks of yakitori to go. We make it back to Tsujita around 8:45pm only to find that we were next on the list and one of the wait staff was taking orders. I proceeded to tell him, we're still here (They cross out people's name if you're not there when they do roll call). We rushed to eat the yakitori, thinking that we're about to be seated. Big mistake! Not even close. You see, the line here is so long that they actually take your order while you're on the wait list to expedite the 'cooking' time. Just because the waitstaff takes your order doesn't mean you're anywhere close to getting seated. So we stood there along with the other poor hungry souls. At least we weren't that hungry. Suckas!!! So how long did it take to finally get our bowl of ramen. Almost 2 hours from the time we put our name to the time we got to our seats. I know this for a fact cause the lady and I decided to have a friendly wager as to whether we'd get our seats before/after 10. I have to question all the reviews about this place having the best ramen ever. I can't help but to think after waiting a few hours for anything and you're on the brink of starvation, surely everything must taste like the best thing you've ever had. That's not to say the ramen here isn't good. Both of us ended up getting the Tsukemen. Basically cold ramen served on the side and you eat it by dipping it in the broth, which was rich and flavorful. And they're definitely not shy about garlic either. Complimentary mints are given out at the end of the meal. To sum it all up. Is the place all it's hyped up to be. Yes and No. The Ramen is definitely good but is it 2 hours good. Well, it depends if you want to eat the best thing you've ever had.

Different way of eating ramen

By Calvin S |

My cuz told me about this place while we visit LA. Me and my brother decided to give it a try. We arrived during lunch hour and waited for bout 30 minutes. When we got our table we order their signature ramen, the dipping ramen. I found it quite ok. Since the soup was too tick. However the taste was really good and portion quite big. Couldn’t finish the whole ramen tho. At least it’s worth to wait for 30 minutes.

Must try if you like ramen

By JT3689NJ |

I really like the ramen here. I ordered the one with the dipping sauce. The meat is very tender and the egg with liquid yolk is my favorite. The sauce is a little salty but after dipping the noodle in and it tastes fine. They give you a lot of noodle. They asked if we want them to add hot water to drink the soup but we were too full.

Amazing tsukemen, good & efficient service

By EricInSF |

Yes, you will have to wait for a table. And, yes, you will have to order in advance. But it's worth it when you gobble down the bowl of tsukemen. I know they have other items on the menu, but the tsukemen is so delicious, that's the only thing I've had. And I keep coming back for more! A little bare bones inside, but roomy and clean, with attentive and efficient servers. Highly recommend!

Delicious

By Anthony |

Great food!!! 1st time there and it tasted delicious. I will definitely go back again. The service was very good and tasty.

ramelicious!

By Bescheidgeber1 |

The place is small and only open for lunch. There was a line, but it moved rather quickly. It's located in Japantown in West LA; difficult to park. That all said, it was worth the visit. The broth is very flavorful. It might be deemed pricey for a noodle soup, but the broth is much more flavorful than other places. One can order another batch of ramen noodles, and they will give you separate containers for noodle and broth for takeaway; which is nice, so that the noodles don't get soggy. Highly recommendable; worth the visit (the drive, the parking and the wait)!

Loved it!!!

By Michael F |

I love ramens and I have been to a couple different spots for it in the US, including Momofuku, but here I tried the AJITAMA TSUKEMEN. This is similar to ramens, but the noodles are served separate. Ask for the noodles cold because once you dip it in the broth, the noodles will cook and absorb the flavors better. I loved the thick and strong flavored broth. They will refill your bowl with more broth but I it was watered down when they filled it from a metal type of coffee kettle. For the price you can't go wrong with this place, just know that this place is very popular and wait times can be longer than an hour, aside from that, enjoy!

Medium , review over rated

By Xiaoyu Chen |

面不够劲道,考虑到价格,还是去街对面的武藏更好。拉面很咸,慎重选择。综合来说不错,但是排队很长,考虑还是评论过分高估 The ramen is too salty. While their signature dish tsukemen have a very tasty broth, but their ramen is not tendor enough, regardless of which option u go for. Still a good restaurant, but over rated for its price and certainly not worthy for the wait.

EXCELLENT RAMEN in West Los Angeles

By LovesTravel51 |

I made the mistake of not checking Trip Advisor first and the other day went to Tsujita across the street for dinner not knowing that the ramen action shifted across the street to Tsujita LA Artisan Noodle Annex at night. The wait was about 15 - 20 minutes and they kept to that time. They explained the differenced between the ramen and I choose a full bowl of Tsukemen with a soft egg. Be warned that this ramen it the real thing (comparable to my ramen adventures Tokyo. The Tsukemen is a rich (flavor and fat) tonkotsu broth pilled with big, brawny noodles, juicy slabs of seasoned pork, and crunchy bean sprouts. Those who desire maximum flavor/spice capacity can top it off with fresh garlic and spoonful's of onikasu (spicy red pepper seasoning). If fat is not your thing, then you might want to look elsewhere, but this is the best ramen on the West side of Los Angeles (better than nest UCLA) and worth the drive and wait. All for only $15.00.

LA's best ramen?

By J A |

If there is better ramen in LA, please tell me. I've tried many places and this place is head and shoulders above the rest. Great heavy, tangy broth and thick noodles. I would be very sad if this place closes. It's almost a given that I head here every time I'm in LA (which is a lot). The only question is whether you like the Tsujita annex across the street more. I like the original. It is reasonably priced and service is typically very prompt. I like the layout of the restaurant as well. Intimate but you don't feel crowded.

Horrible experience

By Selby B |

This was the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. As someone who has eaten at many of the ramen and non-ramen restaurants up and down Sawtelle, it is no secret that I absolutely love Asian food (especially ramen). All four of us ordered ramen with pork, and two of us were served first. As we waited a couple minutes for the other two bowls to be served, the pork broth began to congeal on top. Our ramen, that was still hot, had a skin. The broth was so fatty that I couldn't eat it, and it turned my stomach. The soft boiled egg was great though. Two people liked the ramen, and another had stomach problems after because of the fat. Further, the restaurant smells really bad, as mentioned by a few other reviewers. When I spoke with the waiter, Shanon, I apologized and said that I don't like my ramen. I can't emphasize enough how polite and apologetic we were. He said "no returns or exchanges," and refused to take it off the bill OR THE TABLE. He certainly would not bring me something else instead. I jokingly asked if this happens often, and he said yes. No, really. When we asked to speak to someone else, he came over and actually got in our faces, raised his voice, and said it's too bad. We later spoke with the chef, who said, and I quote (word for word), "if you order it and don't like it we don't care. It doesn't matter. You ordered it, you pay." I also told him I would quote his words. Wow. The four of us were in utter disbelief. Not only will we never return, but as someone who herself works in customer service, I believe they owe me an apology and a refund, especially the waiter Shanon. Bad food, and exceptionally bad and insulting service.

Incredible Ramen (San Gabriel location)

By Lady Gigglemug |

This review is for their San Gabriel location. Came in for a quick lunch and discovered one of the best ramens I’ve ever had - Their broth is absolutely divine! We also tried their Tsukemen style ramen which was fun and interesting! Our server Gloria was so sweet and very attentive. The vibe is very relaxed and still felt chic even though they’re a more casual spot. We ordered their regular Tonkotsu Ramen which is a savory pork broth that comes with some chashu pieces and various other toppings. The broth is amazing - flawless, very rich umami flavor - truly one of the best I’ve tried in the area. And I loved their ramen noodles - they were much thinner than other places with a nice crispness to them - very much enjoyed the style here. The chashu was delicious and the regular portion was decent - but I will say that I think next time I’d order the Chashu Tonkotsu option that comes with extra chashu. We also ordered their traditional Tsukemen ramen style which is something I’d not ever seen before! It’s a “dipping ramen” - the noodles and soft boiled egg come in a separate bowl served cool with a warm dipping ramen broth on the side. The chashu is chopped into smaller pieces and mixed in with the broth. Again, I’d recommend getting the option that comes with the extra chashu. For what it is, it’s very yummy…the broth is savory with a strong fish flavor and slightly salted. I enjoyed it but am not typically a fan of strong fish dishes - so personally I wouldn’t order this again but that’s only bc of my preferences. My hubby absolutely loved it. And if you like that sort of flavor profile, I can honestly recommend it. I really enjoyed the added flavor of the lime squeezed on top so be sure to do that! They have booths, tables, and even bar seating that looks over the kitchen so it’s fun to watch the chefs in action. Prices are comparable to other spots in the area. The decor is very minimalist and ambiance is chill - very clean as well. My only complaint was maybe the music - it started out quite nice - Japanese style string music but it got progressively more and more hectic and loud as the lunch went on and eventually sounded like someone just banging on guitar/piano strings repeatedly lol - it was kind of jarring. But not a big deal. They’re located in one of the area shopping centers with some parking around the businesses but also extra parking in a below ground garage with elevators, so it’s handicap accessible even from the lower garage levels. They’re surrounded by lots of boba shops and bakeries and other places to explore so it’s a great location. We had a lovely lunch and will definitely be back for more of that Tonkotsu ramen!

LA's best ramen

By Tim B |

To be clear, there are two different ramen bars owned by Tsujita that are across the street from each other, on this block. The one located at 2057 is simply Tsujita LA, and they offer a wider variety of ramen noodles and broths. Across the street at 2050 is a smaller more casual ramen bar called "Tsujita ANNEX" and for whatever reason they both share the same profile on TA. The Annex is more of a traditional ramen bar ambience but it's serving non-ramen noodles (they're much thicker) in what is some of the richest, saltiest, mouth-watering ramen broths I've ever tasted. But Tsujita LA is more of a restaurant (with alcohol) that serves traditional ramen noodles with a lighter, creamier broth. There is always a line no matter which one you choose, so be prepared to wait unless you come here by yourself (there always seems to be one empty seat at both bars). I would not advise you bring a large group to the Annex, but Tsujita LA can fit up to six comfortably in one of their booths. No matter where you go, you won't need to eat for the rest of the day if you lunch there.

Amazing food and worth the price

By em-2115 |

They have regular ramen and another type of ramen where you dip the noodles into the sauce. That was amazing and rich in flavor. Not only was the soup base delicious, but the noodles were also perfectly made and the pork melt It was an extraordinary taste for me and well worth the price, leaving me completely full and satisfied. Ultimately, this place is definitely worth the wait.

Ramen is rich

By iamgioiag |

We were originally going to Santa Monica for ramen, but wanted to try the selections at Sawtelle. We heard good things about Tsujita, and the long line didn't deter us. We waited about 15-20 and it's a small restaurant with outdoor seating too. Pretty clean place and ramen was delicious. The broth was creamy and tsukemen was delicious too.

If you know about ramen, this place will disappoint you...

By Darekana |

I have been eating ramen for over many years mostly in Japan and in a few LA places. Tsujita is the most recent. I had the tonkotsu ramen and it was truly disappointing. The noodles were of the completely wrong type. Instead of ramen noodles, they were very thin, almost white; they were like somen noodles used for a completely different purposes. In general ramen noodles are supposed to be slightly chewy, but for tonkotsu, they should be especially firm. These were completely soft. The broth, however, was decent, although it could have had more umami flavour. Another issue is the photo in the menu. One gets the impression of a large serving bowl which is traditional in Japan. The serving size was definitely smaller than normal. To get authentic ramen, there are better places in LA.

Tsukemen then soup wari...a different take on ramen

By Eddie Travels |

QUICKIE REVIEW CASH ONLY. Now get in here and get some of this dipping ramen goodness. FOOD This is what I tried: -Charsiu Tsukemen The thick broth is full of rich flavor. Every dip and bite is just delightful. The egg and its golden runny yolk looks textbook. If you are spice lover and wanting to kick things up a notch, there are spice condiments on the table. Best part is that after you are done with your tsukemen, you can get soup wari (your broth is diluted so that it becomes drinkable). If you were not full from before, you should be after the soup. PARKING No. Street parking if you can find it. If not, there is a paid parking structure roughly a block away. SERVICE Fast. Our waitress took our order while we were waiting outside in line. When we sat down, we had our food brought to us two minutes later. That might very well be the fastest I have ever been served fresh tsukemen. PRICE For two, you can expect to pay around $25. TIP/OTHER THOUGHTS I knew this place would be good when I saw the line. Get there early or come later in the evening (like past 9 pm). It is always nice to be seated right away.

Mehhhhhhh

I don't like to give bad review but this restaurant is overrated. We arrived around 6:30pm and got a table right away but as soon as we came inside we smelled strong odor and it was bad. I ordered Tonkotsu Ramen and my friend had Negi Ramen. Mine was acceptable but my friend's ramen was not good at all especially the broth so yucky. After a few hours, we both got stomach ache. It was a huge mistake coming here. I'm giving 2 stars because George gave a good service otherwise i would give one star only.

I love it!

By savvyjwtravler |

Seems to be a lot of negative reviews, but I love this place. Perhaps I'm not a ramen snob and haven't gone all over Japan in search of the best ramen, but I say this place beats out many Ramen places in LA. The noodles are the right thickness, cooked al dente with just the right amount of chewiness. Granted, the restaurant does reek, but that's the pork broth. Service is fast and they get your order before you sit down, so its in and out. I'm glad they now accept credit cards! We love taking our out of town guests here, they always love it.

I highly recommend

By Maria G |

I highly recommend this place without hesitation. Every aspect of the experience was fantastic. I opted for spice level 3, and it was delightfully flavorful. They even have a level higher, which I plan to try on my next visit. Given the limited parking in the area, it's advisable to park one block south and pay for parking there. The majority of the seating is outdoors, allowing for a pleasant dining experience. If you have a hearty appetite, I suggest ordering an extra portion of noodles or a rice bowl.

Come for the lunch

By Carol01887 |

The menu is simple, noodle with meat and hard boiled egg, or just with egg or nothing at all. The hard boiled egg actually has a soft center, so it is not dry. The focus point is the dipping sauce, very flavorful and tasty. The menu said it took them 60 hours to prepare the sauce. The noodle is only available during the lunch time. So come for the lunch and try this very unique noodle.

Worth a try

By Erika W |

Normally there is a huge wait for Tsujita but my party of 4 got lucky and waited nearly 5 minutes! I ordered the dipping ramen with pretty high expectations based upon what yelp reviews give them. The soup base was pork and fish tasting with a pretty heavy fish taste. I also ordered the spicy tuna don which i thought was way more amazing than the ramen itself. I had Annex ramen across the street a few weeks ago which I thought was even better, but yelp gives it lower ratings. Overall I think Tsujita is worth a try but prefer the ramen across the street! OH and normally Tsujita only serves their famous dipping ramen at lunch but as a few weeks ago they are serving it for dinner.

Super Delicious Ramen but Longest Wait

By Rachelle W |

This place serves super delicious ramen for an affordable price. There are two types of noodle to be chosen from - regular ramen in broth or dipping ramen with broth on the side. Under each type, there are three kinds to choose from - regular, with green onion, and with cha shu (spell?) pork. Cha shu pork, to me, is like grilled char pork aka awesomeness. Regular goes around $10, green onion bowl goes around $11, and the ones with cha shu pork goes about $14-15. Good portion! I ordered regular size and couldnt finish. There are also side rice dishes - cha shu rice bowl, spicy tuna bowl, tuna bowl, and salmon bowl. Each of them goes for $3.99 if one bowl of ramen is ordered but $5.99 if ordered alone. Really really good food but the wait was insane! My husband I went around 11pm on Thursday, and we didnt get to sit down until 12:10am. For the quality of food, I say the wait is worth it. Be prepared =)

delicious

By LMOverby |

We ate at the small "annex" across the street, which is less formal, but delicious. The place seats only about 20, so be prepared for a lengthy wait outside (there are chairs and heaters). The noodles, broth, and pork are obscenely good, served in very authentic setting, where you can watch the guys behind the counter making the dishes. Regular sizes were more than enough for us. Three of us ate for ~$50.

Too much fat

By Robert S |

Perhaps I am uneducated in the appropriate ratio of fat to meat in the pork, but the char siu was way too fatty for my taste. The broth was quite good, but I would much rather go to Asahi Ramen across the street.

Traditional and Excellent Ramen

By Kyle K |

Arguably the best tsukamen ramen I have ever had in the US. The char sui (pork) dipping noodle ramen rivaled one of the best known and awarded ramen shops that I visited in Tokyo. Outstanding and less than $14.

Best Ramen I've ever had!

By Nicholas G |

We lack the same quality of ramen on the East Coast, and this is certainly the best Ramen restaurant I've ever been to. The main downside, as has been mentioned, is the long wait, but of course that's a good sign -- a sign that it's worth the wait!

Declining Ramen

By Jay Y |

Came to Tsujita for the first time for dinner, after many a lunch here, although not in a while. Usually a bowl of tonkotsu ramen hits the spot, but i really think this place's popularity has caught up to it. The noodles were just OK, the broth wasn't as flavorful, but the egg was still cooked perfectly. Maybe extending ramen to dinner has forced them to sacrifice a bit of quality? Or run down the broth? I remember for lunch, i would drain the whole bowl, This experience, i barely finished. We did arrive early for dinner, so we didn't have to wait, which was good. Also the place smelled really bad this visit. Would rather go to Santouka. Remember: Cash Only Parking Level : Nightmare Wait Times: Can be huge.

Really yummy noodles. Limited seating.

By Michael Y |

The noodles are delicious. Either the ramen or tsukemen, you can't go wrong. One of the best around!! The service was friendly and efficient. Long lines and limited seating, so if you have a large party then you will likely get split up. Street parking.

Ramen...dipping ramen

By Summerasalifestyle |

It always seems to have a line here or across the street at the annex. I got lucky. Seated immediately at the bar. Notwithstanding a little heat/humidity, I like sitting at a food/ prep bar. I like seeing my chefs. Tsukeman is ramen. Ramen that you dip. The ramen is separate from the broth. Ramen is room temperature and thick Broth is like a thin gravy Dipping ramen makes it totally different and it also makes it totally challenging-- especially for me since I'm not so good with chopsticks. Way tasty and I understand why there's always a line. Be aware: Cash only Yes yes

Excellent food and inviting setting

By Brooklynite_Abroad |

We signed up for a table for four, in the mid-afternoon, on a Saturday. The wait was 20-30 minutes, during which we walked over to check out the Tsujita Annex across the street. There is patio and indoor seating available, ours was a spacious interior table. We opted for a spicy tuna and an ikura bowls as tasty, fresh appetizers, and each of us indulged in personal orders of rich tsukemen with tasty noodles. The servings here are large, and no one opted for extra noodles. If you enjoy Japanese noodles, don't miss enjoying a meal here.

Savory dishes, small space

By EditorCJP |

People have been lining up since Day 1 to eat Tsujita’s noodles. We get it. We finally braved the line, got our little table next to the kitchen and ordered one noodle and one rice dish to share. We got the restaurant’s signature dish: Charsiu Tsukemen, which are the dipping noodles with a rich broth, pork slices and seasoned egg. The noodles were cooked perfectly, the broth tasted as if it were simmering for days (it was so rich), and the seasoned egg was a revelation. Our rice dish was also topped with pork (aka charsiu). It was good but surprisingly small and not big enough as the solo meal for someone who’s hungry. Service was prompt and the meal served quickly. So don’t worry if there’s a line to get in; you’ll probably have a table relatively quickly.

Excellent Ramen

By Pureum K |

Came here because my friend wanted to eat ramen. I was surprised such great ramen place existed in Sawtelle. Usually, I go for ramen in Little Tokyo. The ramen was amazing! We devoured it. The price is ok for good ramen. However, just know that the wait can be long. So come on odd hours, like 4 pm that is when we came. If you have to wait, put your name on the wait list and then go shopping at Daiso nearby :D 15-30 min will pass by quickly :D

Amazing Japanese Noodle Experience

By KevinPH1 |

I wanted to have some Japanese Style Noodles, and had always wanted to try this place. It was a terrific experience. It measured up to the experience I had in my head. I recommend this place to everyone. I had the CHAR SIU TSUKEMEN, pork noodles, with the noodles in one bowl and the the gravy in another. you did the noodles into the gravy and slurp them. delicious and fun!

Great Tsukemmen

By Julia A |

Loved this place. Great food and good prices. Good service. The food was super filling and tasty. Would recommend for lunch.

Nice noodles

By snowyyz |

Tsujita offers two types of noodles - tsukeman and ramen. Tsukeman is the type where you dip your noodles in a dipping sauce as you eat. Ramen is the regular soup ramen. While I'm a ramen regular at other joints, it's my first time trying tsukeman. I like the dipping sauce - it's rich and flavourful. The only downside as others have pointed out is that your sauce won't remain hot as you dip the room temperature noodle in with every bite. However, I didn't find it to be a big problem given that I came here for lunch on a hot LA afternoon.

Worth crossing town for

By Bodi L |

Our host said that this was the ramen we should try, and he was absolutely right. Three of us tried their signature dipping ramen, while our fourth tried the killer tonkatsu broth. (And at the lowest heat level, it was indeed killer).

Slurp, Slurp

By GeorgeLinCPA |

This noodle place is pretty good. I was filled with my entree that I ordered. If you like the noise of the slurping of noodles you will be disappointed. I did not hear that annoying sound, but then again I was dining outside. The noodles are fresh and the soup base is tasty. The they oils and condiments that you can add to your noodle entree so you can make your entree spicier if it is not already spicy enough. This is a nice place to visit and is always crowded. On the weekend expect to wait at least 30-40 min. I say this is a noodle place that should be visited. It is located in an area called Little Osaka which is in West Los Angeles.

OMG AMAZING Ramen 😍

By SaraDISH |

Love ramen. Experienced Tsujita LA Annex on my most recent visit to LA and omg I'm hooked. The Tsukwmen with original Negi is to die for. The ramen is cooked perfectly. The spiciness is pure heaven. The tea egg is stuff dreams are made of. I also ordered the spicy tuna bowl on the side. So delicious. I'm very sad to admit that I couldn't finish my meal however our server was so sweet and offered to pack it up to go. There's no reservations or takeout. However they are rather quick with turning seats at the ramen bar. I can't wait to return to LA just to experience those delectable noodles.

The best ramen in California, not just LA

By 33andfree |

This is the Tsujita location not the Tsujita Annex. That is different. This place is SOLID. My husband first took me to this place in 2012. At that time we waited about 35 minutes in the rain (this place is actually a turn and burn place it goes quite fast) and then it took us 20 to eat. Fast forward 4.5 years and it is the same thing. Minus the rain. You order before you sit down and so within minutes you are eating. You will seriously wait in line longer than eating. This place is seriously the best. They only serve ramen at lunch and then more japanese rolls and sushi for dinner. I can't review dinner but I will be back as much as possible at lunch. They have a few things on the menu other than ramen, but really, YOU ARE THERE FOR THE RAMEN. Their menu is simple. One page of explanation and then another page of what you can order. Simply put you get thin noodles in the broth (tonkatsu) or thicker noodles on the side of your broth (tsukemen). My favorite: tsukemen) The flavors of the broth (60 hrs to make) are intense and spectacular. The dish is ($9.95), not cheap but oh so worth it. I devoured it. Plus then with the left over broth they add hot water (free) and then you have a soup afterwards (helps with the digestion, personal opinion). The meat in the broth is the moistest flavorful meat I have ever had in ramen and the quality is a lot better also. The serving size is perfect and you don't feel over stuffed at the end. But if you want more noodles they only charge you $1.50 more. The place is very small and intimate so if you are a person that is freaked out by sitting almost shoulder to shoulder with the next table you're missing out if you don't get past that phobia. This is a must must must must for your list on Sawtelle in Little Osaka. While you wait you can go get a cup of coffee right around the corner or just walk the small block of little Osaka. After get some shaved ice cream around the corner. Metered parking everywhere, there is free valet behind it. We have been to ramen all over LA and this still is our favorite and go to spot. We would drive all the way from Encino, just to have lunch here. it is really that good.

Wonderful food!

By DeborahandAndy |

We've visited several times- great noodles - more ramen choices at lunch- At dinner there are many tasty dishes - we especially love the black cod, roast beef, and mushroom salad. Great service- easy to have conversations at a booth for 6 people- come early at dinner or lunch as there is a line up.

Decent Noodles, Bad Smells

By XrayShopper |

There's always a huge line in front of this place. Not at all an expert in this other kind of noodle dish call tsukemen. More familiar with ramen. It was an interesting experience, marred by the terrible smell inside it. The offerings are very limited, centered mostly around the flabby and fatty pork and the noodle dishes. Not sure I'll ever need to return, but it was a mostly good experience. If you feel anxious with new and confusing dining contexts, I would stay away. But if you like a challenge, might be for you. If you're noodle-averse, though, it's really nothing but noodles.

Love the noodles!

By winenutt |

I finally had a chance to try this place, after seeing long lines outside for months on end. We actually went to the Annex across the street, because it is open longer, but their menu is limited however. We were able to try their Tsukeman, which was amazing! The noodles, and soup base were so tasty, but my favorite was the char siu! It was the best I've ever eaten! Really great food, if you love ramen! If you want a broader menu, then visit their main restaurant across the street! You'll love it!

Pretty good Ramen

By veronicali |

I'm not much of a ramen person, but I enjoyed this very much. The soup was very tasty and the noodles was done just right. The place is small , but cozy. Service was also good.

best ramen. ever!

By teresa |

went here as a recommendation from a local. the broth was so creamy and savoury! i got their special, where the noddles and the broth came separately and ate it the way they recommended...1st dip it in broth. 2nd eat them together. and 3rd add seasoning. the service wass superb also. possibily the best ramen i ever had!

BEST RAMEN AND TSUKERAMEN IN LA - NO BS ABOUT IT!

By Lee C |

When it is cold in LA this place is the place to go to for the best ramen and tsukeramen experience. Nothing else in LA comes close to the depth of the broth for both dishes. There is an art form going on here and these guys are the masters. For the simple, get the ramen. It's savory, easy and comes with anything. But for the foodies get the tsukemen with shar siu (pork). Key to their broth is that they cook the meat in it prior so it has amazing flavor. Add chopped garlic and onikasu red spice (2 scoops). Dip your side tsukeramen noodles in the main bowl, mix in the spoon with the pork and start drooling for more. Just amazing rich deep flavor. If you eat some of the soup they will add more to the bowl for free - which makes it an even different flavor. Super Bonus! The place is small and gets crowded, so go at 11a or in an off hour if you don't want to wait outside. But the wait is worth it. We never finish our meal and take it home, so essentially 2 meals in one. They don't have take out so you have to sit first. Five stars out of five! Yummmmmm

Amazing and authentic ramen

By raymondwlw |

A friend brought us here. I had to say the ramen here is pretty authentic! We were also here early so we skipped the queue. A definite must visit if you're in the area! Being from Asia, the food here definitely reminded me of home.

bring cash

By E S |

Great noodles and soup. We arrived soon after they opened and within a few minutes there was a long line. They accept cash only but there is an ATM at the Tomato Bank (is that a real thing?) across the street. Service is pretty quick and tables turned around pretty quickly also.

TSUKEMEN HEAVEN.

By Missy |

ALL DAY LONG I DREAM ABOUT TSUJITA. I first visited Tsujita with my boyfriend a couple months back in October. I ordered the standard ramen, and my boyfriend kind of looked at me like I was nuts for not ordering the tsukemen. I had never even heard of tsukemen before so I was like "Meh...my ramen will be just fine." I'M AN IDIOT. My boyfriend gave me a spoonful of his tsukemen to try, and it CHANGED MY LIFE. Oh man, it was de-freakin'-licious. I'm not saying my ramen wasn't excellent, because it was very tasty. I'm just saying this tsukemen blew my mind. I had the pleasure of visiting Tsujita again the other weekend with a couple friends. The place was poppin' late on a Friday night. We put our name down, and I would say that we waited about an hour until our name was called. The wait was definitely worth it for their tsukemen - once it hits your lips...it's so good... I like to think that in the afterlife in Heaven I will be surrounded by big delicious bowls of Tsujita tsukemen all for myself. And also unlimited pizza...but I digress. FYI - This place is CASH ONLY. I am not a huge fan of that, but I am still giving Tsujita five stars because it would be crazy not to.

Ramen lunch

By James S |

Well, we came here during mid day. The place was really hot and glaring, the music played here was quite loud which affected our dining mood. To be fair in the first place, I am not a fan of ramen. The ramen here taste alright and the portion is quite generous. Recommended to come here during nighttime and for those who likes ramen.

Pretty good but still disappointing

By Nari L |

We came upon this place not intending on eating here. We were supposed to eat at Seoul Sausage Co but when we parked and went in, it was 932 and they told us they were closed. They close at 930. So we were bummed and walked around the corner and ended up here. Well, maybe because it was so late but almost everything I ordered here the waitress would come back and tell me they were out of it. :( So in the end we settled on the spicy tuna salad and the spicy tuna rice bowl and fried chicken. Everything was pretty good but it just sucked not being able to order the stuff that originally wanted to order. Not sure if I would come back here. Maybe I would to try the ramen since that's what everyone is raving about. But they don't serve ramen for dinner.

Best Ramen LA

By Natasha |

Over the course of our 2 week vacation Tsujita was by far the best ramen place we visited. The broth was complex and incredibly flavorful, the noodles were al denté and the perfect consistency, and there were enough vegetables to add a nice crunch. There was a line up, but the staff came out to take our order prior to being seated and brought out ice teas. Definitely worth the wait!!!! We will be back the next time we visit Los Angeles.

good ramen in LA

By lpm300 |

be prepared for a long line---the place is quite small that you will really have to wait. Ramen was flavourful but too oily for my taste. service is excellent

Artisan? Hardly

By melobeam |

The Skinny: Parking- metered street Decor- hip Restroom- sort of clean single Coke Factor- in a can Service- average Food- no good I love ramen but I will be honest and say that this was a truly disappointing meal. I ordered what they call "Dipping" ramen. You get a cold bowl of noodles that is not really ramen sized. It's slightly smaller than udon noodles which are super thick. And though you are dipping them in hot broth, the broth soon becomes lukewarm to cold with a few dippings. The broth which is simmered for hours was also super salty and not flavorful. I ordered bamboo to go with it and that was the only thing I liked. I did ask of them to give me a bowl of hot broth when mine went cold but after a few bites I gave up. It just didn't taste good. There was a line but don't be fooled, it doesn't always mean its good, it is just a fad.

Don't eat pork ? STAY AWAY

By Zain V |

We waited almost 2 hours in the freezing cold only to find the main famous dish was pork based. We were led to believe we could have it vegetarian. Alas we could not. The broth is made with pork. We promptly left. But also told our rushed server, they should let people know this before making them wait 2 hours. He replied "we don't want to put up a sign saying stay away if you don't eat pork." I'll say it, STAY AWAY!

Surprisingly, the noodles were grossly under-cooked.

By khnry |

I've had both the regular bowl ramen as well as the tsukemen at the Tsujita across the street from this "Annex". Absolutely loved the tsukemen over there (had it multiple times), while the regular bowl ramen was just alright (you can pass on that one). When I heard that the Annex offered a different style of ramen, I had to try. Ramen with Char siu - 3/5 Ordered the large bowl and added an egg. The bowl comes piled high with bean sprouts (?) with little specks of black pepper on top. The egg was perfectly cooked and the char siu is served cold. It was a bit difficult to eat because they pile everything on top and the bowl is pretty much filled to the brim. The broth definitely gets a 5/5 from me. It is incredibly rich, intense, and flavorful. Added a lot of fresh garlic and onikasu. The noodles get a 1/5 from me. I know the noodles are supposed to be served al dente, and in fact I prefer noodles cooked al dente. However, this was NOT al dente. They were without a doubt, under-cooked. The noodles were not chewy, but hard. Now, I've had the tsukemen at the Tsujita across the street multiple times and each time I consistently enjoyed the texture of the noodles there. I've been to many ramen shops and this was the first time I encountered this kind of texture from the noodles, and it was just not enjoyable at all. I'm still wondering if this was just an unfortunate anomaly... I'm actually hoping that it was just an unfortunate anomaly, I was surprised that Tsujita would produce such an unsatisfactory product. I think I would have to go back and try it again.

Solid choice for ramen

By Rather_Nomadic |

You heard it here: they are cash only. Limited options but they make great ramen. The broth was amazing and the noodles were fresh. Friendly and efficient staff. Kids are fine but the dining area is small and crowded. They do have an annex across the road if this location is crowded. Watch their hours too to make sure they are open.

Great noodles!

By RedPanFan |

The best tsukemen and ramen noodles in L.A.! Seriously. The noodles are fresh and cooked just right, not too soft, not too hard. The chasu is tender and yummy and they give just the right amount (not skimpy like some other ramen places). The soft boiled egg is seasoned just right. The broth is really flavorful, especially for the tsukemen. Too bad I don’t live in the area else I’ll be eating here every week.

Terribly oily ramen

By Alvin V |

Was here due to many recommendations from different people telling me it is the best ramen in LA. I came with a very high expectation but was utterly disappointed. We ordered both the typical tonkotsu ramen and the dipping tsukemen. For both ramen, the broth is way too oily and there is just too many lards in the soups. There is a thick layer of oil slick floating on our soups. Even the meat (chashu) is 70-80% fat. All my parties were left nauseating from the amount of oil intake we had from the ramen and its soup. Not a very pleasant experience. I come from Toronto, Canada and I personally think the ramen shops in Toronto do a much better job than Tsujita.

Popular ramen stop on Sawtelle

By Shanelle |

Popular ramen shop with tsukumen (dipping ramen) options. Came here on a Wednesday night around 7pm and put our name down on the list. We got seated around 20 minutes later, but I’ve had to wait longer during weekends. Metered street parking. Credit cards are accepted. They do have vegan options available. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. It’s best for groups of two to four. I always go for a tsukumen, regular size. Even with the regular size, there’s still a small amount leftover. They forgot my chashu pork this time around, but the waiter just brought it to the kitchen to quickly add them in. The noodles are very chewy and the broth is rich and fatty. Once you’re finished, the waiter brings out the credit card reader so you can pay at the table. You’re around plenty of good dessert spots on Sawtelle, so be sure to save room!

still great ramen!!

By Russ_Cathy |

Went to visit some friends in LA and from the airport headed straight to this establishment. Since my last review, I must say it's like the first time. Ramen here is awesome!! My friends who lives in the area tried the other ramen place and the others are no equal.

Great experience

By RobChills |

Great experience here! The ramen, dipping style, is off the hook. Great porky, sensual, salty, thick both. The price is very good and the noodles are cooked to your likeness. Not much in terms of other choices, but you didn't come here to NOT eat ramen. Pork Belly was done perfectly. Best of all, we had 4 adults and 4 children in our party...and the bill was only $85!!!

Transcendent Tsujita

By floh1203 |

I'm not a ramen expert, but not a novice. This was the best bowl of ramen in my experience. The broth unsurpassed and only made better by the garlic and pepper condiments. I see the complaints about the wait, but it was not bad for me (10 minutes) during a Friday evening. They took my order while I was waiting outside and the ramen was being simultaneously put together for me as I sat down at the bar - nice service. I see the last reviewer complained of cooled broth, which I find hard to believe, because you can see them constructing the components and serving the hot bowl right in front of you. My only complaint is that after a great bowl or ramen, I would have like a beer.

Tasty sushi, noodles, and Japanese food

By CentralCATraveler |

Had dinner in this small, but cozy Japanese restaurant in this nouveau pan-Asian area of L.A. The food was fresh and flavorful, from the udon noodles to the sashimi to the cooked cod. Server made good recommendations upon request. Small sushi bar area with a couple of booths and tables, cool ceiling. You can make reservations. Gratuity only parking in the back. Boba tea shop across the street and other Asian shops and restaurants nearby.

Ramen worth the wait

By Jane M |

Even on google streetview you can see this place has a line out the door. Do not give in and try the annex next door, stick it out for a decadent simple bowl of the original ramen and a cold coca cola. Heaven.

Ramen!!!

By walkabout56 |

Went to the Annex having very high expectations for the ramen and they delivered! The noodles, the tonkotsu broth, the char siu and vegetables were all spot on. Next time I will ask for the onikasu on the side as it tended to over power the tonkotsu flavor. Five for the ramen, only detractor was the meguro in the meguro-don which was not as fresh as it could have been. However, that will not deter us from coming back - good ramen can be hard to find and this is it!

Yum!

By j r |

Came here for weekend brunch and it was fantastic. Both ramen and udon dishes were delicious. We had a short wait for a table but there is a lot of turnover so it went quickly.

Worth waiting in the line

By Anthony M |

My partner had gone here once before taking me. He raved about how good it was and I was game to try something new. You have to wait, outside. There's no getting around this. The wait goes by quickly as they seem to turn around tables very fast. We had just returned from SE Asia and wanted to enjoy some noodles prepared a different way. I ordered Char Siu Tsukemen. This has everything except mushrooms I was told but there seems to be some mushrooms and bacon in the broth along with bits of beef and a whole hard boiled egg. The noodles are served in a separate bowl, cold. You have a few condiments you can add but it's not necessary as the broth has loads of flavor. There are instructions given on how to enjoy the meal, too. I slurped up every last noodle!

Lived up to the hype

By Solana711 |

I had been wanting to come here for some time. I'm new to this authentic style of ramen. I tried one place in Culver City, and I thought that it was too salty so I wanted to give it one more try before writing off it off. I heard how difficult it is to get into this place so I planned an outing during a day we both had off, after the lunch hour, around 2:30 or 3:00 p.m. We had cash in hand, ready to go since they do not take credit cards. We got seated quickly with barely a wait at the bar. I had the plain noodles and my fiance had the char siu ramen. We got the noodles cold, and dipped it into the rich broth/sauce. They have a fun way of eating the noodles and give you directions of how to do it, by adding lime later on and then by getting more soup added to your remaining broth (I think they call it wari). Oh my gosh. Not too salty. Not too rich. It had the egg in it, and I was blown away. My fiance was not as much of a fan. I don't know if it's because he had the char siu version, but I loved it. I can't wait to go back. This time I will try the noodles warm. I think that will be even better.
