Great Greek food

By Roz57_13 |

My daughter and I enjoyed a flavourful Greek meal at Tuba. The tables are rather closely packed but this did not detract from one of the best Greek meals I have had outside of Greece. Well worth a visit.

GREAT resturant and reasonable prices in San Francisco

By bnelson88 |

This Turkish/Mediterranian resturant was such a lovely surprise....highly recommended. We visited after a play at the Marsh - it's only a block away. The atmosphere is delightful and the food is wonderful. Turkish and Greek classics with a few surprises thrown in. Portions are HUGE - we noticed several diners getting a couple of appetizers and salad rather than an entre and that makes perfect sense. Our feta shrimp appetizer protion included at least half a dozen large shrimp and the salad was easily a meal portion. Plus it all comes with WONDERFUL homemaid turkish bread that is addictive. Main courses focus on middle eastern standards - kebabs and classics like stuffed eggplant and mousaaka, all done very well. After the appetizers, consider sharing an entre. Prices are VERY reasonable here. A welcome change from the overpriced resturants in the neighborhood. If I have any complaint it's that services is TOO good - they could work on their pacing a bit. A definate hit for me...

Great neighborhood find!

By cja2k1 |

Came here on Valentine's Day expecting to have a low-key dinner away from all of the Valentine craziness where restaurants force a jacked-up prix fixe menu on you -- and we were very pleasantly surprised! The food was delicious, the service was efficient and friendly, and the ambience was cozy. They had red heart balloons which made it festive, but not cheesy. The owner was genuinely appreciative that we were there, and this -- plus the great value and awesome flavors -- makes me want to come back again!

Authentic and great service

Wonderful Turkish cuisine, a very interesting wine list, attentive service and a tight but comfortable physical space.

The best Turkish food outside of Turkey

By GrandTour488658 |

I have eaten at Tuba three times this past spring, and never been disappointed. The staff are friendly and always accommodating, and many are the owners' family. The food is wonderful, fresh and properly nuanced with real Turkish seasoning. The bread is authentic Turkish bread. I have spent a lot of time over many years in Turkey. Tuba's food is the real deal. I cannot wait to return.

Delicious, juicy, tender - loved it

By Thumper E |

Lamb kabobs were delicious, juicy, tender. Unfortunately for me, so was the rice so I gobbled it up. Hubby had lamb chops (marinated for 3 days - or something similar to this) and he LOVED them. I wish the portions had been a bit bigger - for the price. Definitely will go here again.

Awesome and Authentic

By JohnK_SF |

After visiting Turkey we were looking for a truly authentic experience and found it at Tuba. The recipes are flavorful and the portions fit for even the hungriest diner. If you are in a group of 4 or more I highly recommend the cold Meze sampler as an appetizer...simply awesome.

Hidden gem

By pavand |

Lines out the door arena testament to how great of a restaurant this is. I live in San Francisco and was ecstatic to discover this place on a random Friday night. The signature dishes were amazing.

First time eating Turkish: Amazing!

By somedayrainbows |

The food and service here was outstanding. Best dolmas I've ever had in my life. I ordered a Turkish tea at the end: I won't ruin the surprise, but you should do it. We ordered a little bit of everything, and the shrimp appetizer was probably our favorite. We were a table of 2, but saw several groups having a grand time with so many sharing plates as options. Go to Tuba!

Hyped up

By rajesh_the_traveller |

It's a ok palace in mission, nothing great to write about. Expensive for the potion and type of food , will skip the next time .. took ages to serve meal , the place is not air conditioned .. not a fine dining place

Lovely little place

By rabadac |

Food was excellent, service pleasant and fast. The homemade flatbread is delicious and the main dish was fresh and tasty. Would call it a little hidden gem on Guerrero street!

Very unique place

By arizona-mark |

Even though San Francisco seems to have everything you can imagine, occasionally you find one that is unique - and i believe this is it. we had the Humas, Kuku Pirzola (Lamb chop) and the Sigara Boregi (stuffed cheese potato pastry things) -- all were excellent. Lamb was very tender, surprisingly. side note: never, and i mean *NEVER* remind your dinner partner that your lamb dinner was probably a very cute animal last week, unless you want to eat the rest of her lamb chops (works every time).

If you want authentic Tirkish food with incedible service, please head to Tuba.

By EileenFitzpatrick |

The food, service and interpretation of the food we ordered was terrific. My husband and I had been to Turkey and experienced amazing food in every city we visited. We experienced it once again at Tuba (beautiful Lady) the other evening. Enjoy the warm and intimate Tuba as soon as you can. Thank you for being there when our Turkish culinary desires emerge. Eileen and Joe

Enjoyed the Turkish food

By JustAnotherTraveler1 |

My wife and I ate here our first night in SF and I enjoyed the Sabzeli Pathcan vegan meal (but be advised there is a good bit of oil with this dish), and my wife one of the lamb dishes. We had the Cevizli Ezme for an appetizer which was also delicious. The owner came to our table during the meal and was very friendly. If you are looking for great Turkish food, this is as good as I have found anywhere, and the atmosphere is friendly as well; feel like you are with family (in a good way).

A Family Run Turkish/Mediterranean Eatery

By Delbe M |

A couple blocks off Mission Street near 22nd, it a great little restaurant. (1007 Guerrero Street) Reservations are recommended (415-826-8822) because they are busy and do not have a lot of room. If there is just two of you, they can probably find a place for you. Larger groups, not so much. The prices are moderate for SF - $70 for two of us without beverages. A nice cozy place to try new foods.

Excellent Turkish Food

By Bishy42 |

We visited whilst on holiday. Food is fresh and well cooked. Atmosphere is buzzy and the service was good. We needed to book as the first time we visited there were no tables free. Would recommend if you want authentic Turkish food.

Brilliant!

By Blake M |

A completely lovely place for dinner. We arrived 20min late for our reservation and were, none the less, greeted cordially and seated in the bustling restaurant in minutes. The wait-staff could not have been nicer and the food was beautiful and delicious. My wife got all dreamy-eyed and uncommunicative at her first bite of her lamb shish. Because a lot of Turkish food is vegetarian there were plenty of options for me (a vegetarian). I chose the Muzzaka and it was brilliant with one of the Turkish reds (whose name I can neither pronounce nor recall). We had a *wonderful* time

Delicious food!

By Baigel |

Went here on a Saturday night for dinner. Food was great. I got lamb chops and gf got chicken. Both were tasty and came with vegetables on the side. We also got an appetizer for a yogurt with cucumber which was great as well.

Romantic Valentines Dinner

By Sharmistha Ghosh Das |

We were lucky to get a table for 2 late at night in the restaurant. The dinner was worth it through it burnt a hole in the pocket. They only served set menu (with entree and appetiser choices). The lamb shank and lamb chops were out of this world. The lentil soup was tasty. The red velvet cake as well as the baklava were nice. But they topped it up with a red rose, a Valentine Day balloon, a heard shaped chocolate and loads of smiles. Recommended to try next year for those who missed it this year.

Turkish hospitality is always so warm and friendly!

By matheus956 |

The best Mediterranean food I have tried. I love turkish food with all its spices and flavors. The meat is marinated to perfection and cut nicely! The Adana kebab is one of my favorites and salads are large and filling bursting with flavor! Turkish hospitality is always so warm and friendly! Wonderful staff. Good service.

Wonderful Turkish food and experience

By JulieJ8 |

This restaurant was recommended to me by a woman I found speaking Turkish in a shoe store in Hayes Valley. She said it was the best Turkish food in town! We had never had Turkish food per se, although we've had lots of Greek and so-called "Mediterranean" food. This food was different and obviously very authentic to Turkey. We started with the Civizli Esme (walnuts, red pepper puree, garlic, etc.) with very good grilled Turkish bread. Just delicious! I then had the little dumplings stuffed with ground beef and covered with a yogurt sauce with mint. This was excellent, so refreshing and tangy. My date had salmon served in a cast iron dish covered in spinach and other things. I ended with rice pudding and Turkish coffee. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. The décor was vibrant and plush. The location is easily reached from the 24th St/Mission BART station. Loved this!

Interesting and flavorful food

By bronxempress |

We had a birthday dinner for 5 and the food was consistently interesting and fresh. The service was friendly and professional. The moussaka was different from Greek moussaka, which was interesting. The marinated lamb chops were delicious, highly recommended.

Fantastic flavors!

By Karen E |

We were a party of four ordering two appetizers and four entrees to share. Everything we ordered was absolutely fantastic! I would highly recommend this restaurant; I think it is quite a gem. Keep in mind that it isn't cheap. We also ordered a bottle of wine and for all that, the bill came to roughly $210. I don't believe the bottle of wine was an expensive one. Also, because our reserved table was not quite ready when we arrived, we were given complimentary glasses of wine while we waited. I thought that was a nice touch. I will be putting this restaurant on my list of 'musts' whenever I visit my daughter in San Fran. Luckily, she is walking distance. Two of us are gluten-free and had no problem at all picking entrees and appetizers.

Run don't walk!

By drinkswellwithothers |

This place was spot on from the moment we walked in, we were greeted, immediately, seated and offered wine. The server, who was so helpful with choosing a glass of wine, brought me tastes.(HE OFFERED TO BRING ME TASTES!!) He was friendly and not at all condescending when we struggled with the pronunciation of menu items.( let's face it, service is a dying art and that is really unfortunate) he helped us choose from the menu, we hade a fantastic chilled eggplant dish, a cucumber yogurt dip with house made bread, poached prawns, and ground lamb stuffed eggplant. OH LAWD! The food was divine! Bonus for us- It was pride weekend so the people watching was top notch! I can't wait to go back!!

What a surprise (in a good way)

By EMC9393 |

My MIL made the reservation and I was already skeptical (especially of the name Tuba). The place was small/cozy. We left at 9 pm and every single table was packed. The waitress was super nice and the owner was also helping out. The only thing missing from the menu was whole fish which I usually get at a Turkish restaurant. The food was really delicious especially the Grilled Lamb Chop and the Grilled Shrimp w/ Asparagus. Dessert was excellent too but I can't remember the name of it (it was not the baklava I know) something like pressed noodles, I think it was at the top of the dessert menu. It was a very solid meal and I would go back again. Also, kid-friendly.

Wonderful dinner for 7

By Sis H |

We had several picky eaters in our group and they were all able to find something they enjoyed (what a relief!). I had HunkarBegendi and loved it! Also had a glass of Gular G Silver / Cab blend and it was so good, we ordered a bottle too :) Service top notch and the noise level was low enough to actually hear conversations- what a novelty! It's so nice to find a really good restaurant like this that's not Latin/Mexican. Great find!!!!

pleasant

By Kai C |

Tuba is a magic tree in Islamic heavens which spreads over a distance that can be covered in a hundred years and a source of all that is good and precious. The name is very a propos for this (relatively new) restaurant on Guerrero St. Had dinner there with a group of friends. As we came in, we were warmly greeted by the owner, and escorted to the table in a compartment that afforded some privacy. I liked the decor - warm reds, old wood, light coming in from the front. I wouldn;t call the food spectacular but it was certainly very good and uniquely ethnic. We ordered red wine from Turkey expecting it to be heavy and sweet but were surprised to get a dry, crisp, Pinot Noirish wine, at an affordable price (~$45). Appetizers were my favorites, we tried several and all were good as well as interesting. Coffee is served with typical Turkish sweets and should not be missed. The service was superb - courteous, friendly yet leaving a lot of time for decision making, talking etc.

Great ethnic food

By poletti4 |

I went there with my wife and two college-aged daughters. The staff was friendly and the food was very good. A small dining room but very cozy, with nice ambiance. I would recommend it.

The best Turkish in SF

By lombardpengfamily |

I sadly never venture in this area enough, but I met up with a few friends for dinner here and LOVE IT!!! It is a family run restaurant which has amazing customer service. We started with the Tuba Meze Tabagi, Kunefe, and the Sigara Boregi. The flavor of each dish was phenomenal. This is hands down the best Turkish food I have had ever!

Money!

By Ramler1 |

This place was money. Had the lamb all the food was very very fresh. Service was spot on. Small place but cozy.

Very good meal.....

By WillGray77 |

We have been here a couple times and both times were really good.... We were lucky to find a parking spot near by... We booked a reservation online... The restaurant was crowded but we were seated right away.... We tried an appetizer and a couple entrees... all were hot and tasty...... Service was fine as well.... We would go back...

Good food, accommodating staff

By Shayne O |

There are two Tuba locations in San Francisco - beware of that when making a reservation. I reserved at the other location, but this location fit me in and accommodated me. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Food was fantastic. We ordered quite a few items off the menu and they were all excellent. I would go here again in a heart beat.

Authentic is the Key Word

By John S |

In Tuba Authentic Turkish Restaurant, “authentic” is the key word. It is real Turkish food in a cozy neighborhood environment. The staff is friendly and efficient. A disappointment though is the absence of a liquor license, so no raki is available. Turkish wine and beer are available. But the next time I have Turkish food in San Francisco I’m going to find a restaurant that can serve raki with the meal. For me, that’s essential

Great for even the pickiest!

By Emily M |

I am normally a very picky eater and often shy away from restaurants like this, but I had a wonderful experience at Tuba! As a group of four we devoured the cold mezzes! Everyone throughly enjoyed their separate dinners, as well. Wine list is extensive but not too overwhelming. We had both a white and red wine that were fantastic! I'm still dreaming of Tuba's food! Highly recommend to anyone!

Nice Neighborhood Turkish in the Mission District

By Douglas T |

To meet friends from the East Bay and South Bay, we picked Tuba. Not a big menu and not repetitive of other Turkish popular restaurants. Good flavors and interesting choices. Good Turkish wines and they are good about letting you taste first. The salad which is like a Greek Salad only more tasteful was huge. We really enjoyed the meal. Parking is kind of tough though in the neighborhood.

Enjoyable and tasty

By sndovale |

Get a reservation. We always try to find something different. This is it. The food is well prepared and very good. This was our first time having Turkish and we loved it. We'll go back.

The Best Turkish Food in the Bay Area! With Great Service!

By In_Search_of_Roo |

Another dinner for two that was a most pleasurable experience. We started out with two appetizers - the Cevilizi Ezme and the Mucver - both delicious; and of course, this was coupled by the fresh warm Turkish bread that is served at each meal (and a bread neither I nor my guests can ever resist). We had the Turkish Efes Pilsner - which probably is the best beet in the world. Having, on previous occasions, tried all of the exqusite desserts, we shared the new Asure, and were delighted. And the Turkish coffee is good and well presented. Every time is a delightful and delicious experience!

Turkish Delight

By redhare54 |

From the second we were greeted this was a culinary experience unmatched by none. We were early for our reservations, no problem we were warmly greeted and promptly seated. Four women, one recovering from recent surgery, and still we were seated at a desirable table. We asked for recommendations and boy were we glad we did, the entire experience was over the top, starting with the wine (a wiine and only produced in Turkey) and ending with mouth watering desserts with Turkish coffee. Our interest and questions regarding their cuisine ignited their enthusiasm to share their culture with us. There is nothing that could have made our experience more enjoyable.

Small but mightly

By margie214 |

This restaurant is an authentic Turkish restaurant. Food and service is spot on. Wait staff was very attentive, food was very good. I just thought it was more on the pricey side. But ...that's San Francisco, so maybe it's not... It's tucked in between stores and Victorian buildings, easy to miss... but worth a try. Both our waiter and hostess spoke Turkish (my husband tried and slaughtered) in trying out his old verbiage and the pronunciation,) but they were good sports and spoke back to him. Good food, good service... If you're in the mood, try it.

Absolutely Awesome!!

By Linda T |

So this year we are hosting a young man from Turkey and he wanted to go to San Francisco and he was missing Turkish food so we did some research on restaurants specializing in Turkish food and found Tuba. When we went to San Francisco this weekend we ate at Tuba. They were very friendly from the moment we walked in the door. When our Turkish son went to go talk with the people to see who was from Turkey, we discovered that two of the people were the owners who are both from Turkey. One of the waiters was also from Turkey. Since it was still slow (they are not usually open before 5 on Sunday - this was their 2nd Sunday of serving Sunday brunch) we had wonderful conversations with both the owners and their wait staff. So before we even got our food it was being a wonderful time. We ordered and our Turkish son was helping us to know what we should order. Having someone from Turkey made it easy to know if we were getting authentic Turkish food and what would be good. Our food arrived very quickly, it was so good. Our son said it was just like home (high praise indeed!!). We finished our meal off with Baklava and ice cream. It was the best Baklava I have ever eaten (I have a friend who makes her own Baklava and it is very good, this was much better). One of the wait staff was from Mexico but he served our Turkish coffee just like they do in Turkey according to both him and our son (swirled it around on the tray using centrifugal force - I did not think it was real coffee when he did that but it was!!). I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. If you go in the evening, especially on the weekend, you will need a reservation - make it the day before. We tried to go on Saturday evening, called at 5 p.m. and they were completely full until 9:00 p.m. We decided to try lunch and because people are not use to them being open early on a Sunday we had no problem. That will not be the case soon - I would be willing to bet that as soon as people figure out that they are open, they will be busy on Sunday afternoons as well. We were thankful it was slow as it gave us time to talk quite a lot with the owners, we felt like we made new friends. We do not go to San Francisco often, but when we do you can bet that we will be eating at Tuba!

This is the best Turkish restaurant I've ever eaten at stateside.

By ajhorse21 |

Cok, cok, cok guzel!! This is the best Turkish restaurant I've ever eaten at stateside. We started with the cold mezze platter, which was so, so worth it. The hummus, cevizli ezme, and kizartma were all to-die-for, although it was all so, so good. The table polished off every last lettuce leaf garnish on the plate. Phenomenal. My fiance and I are pescatarians/vegetarians so for our main entree we split the musakka and the somon. Both were melt-in-your-mouth candidates for best meal in a restaurant. The musakka especially was for me, truly exceptional. The restaurant surely isn't perfect; it's small, for one thing, which meant that our table wasn't ready when we arrived for our reservation at 8:00 pm on Saturday. Still, they let us go across the street and have a beer; when the table became ready they held it for us, which mostly made up for the delay. Mostly. Although I can resent them for putting off my life-changing experience of tasting that musakka...

Amazing food

By Otavio V |

The cold plate mix was really good and the lamb shank was simply perfect. Tender and with a very tasty gravy. We had baklava for dessert. Moist and not super sweet as it usually is in other places. It was one of the best Turkish restaurant I've ever been.

Turkish food done really well & at a great price

By Sharen |

The food was fabulous, lots of fresh salad and really interesting vegetable dishes. For 2, we ordered a salad and two entrees. They were all excellent and we were quite full; which is a shame cos the desserts looked great and I'd love to have had one. The girls serving are lovely too.

good food and wine

By Lina R |

Good but no extra ordinary vegetarian food and good wine too. Many people go there so there were à bit to noisy when we were there. Good service.

Good Turkish food

By JMVNewYork |

Although this was my first experience of a Turkish restaurant, we were assured by our friends that the food is authentic. I can attest that it's delicious. The staff was welcoming and very helpful in describing unfamiliar dishes. I'd be happy to eat there again.

food here was great!

By tsubakisanjyuro |

The food at Tuba was great! I tried Kuzu Sis, and Baklava & Cream Brule for desert. I really liked their Turkish coffee.

Very authentic Turkish cuisine

By Travelnut1022 |

We dined again at Tuba restaurant recently and had a very nice meal. The food is very authentic and quite close to food that we ate in Istanbul. Everything we had was delicious, service is very warm and attentive and their corkage is very low . We brought a nice bottle of Tempranillo which paired well with the spicy and varied items that we chose. The also offer a very authentic Turkish coffee that went well with our sweet dessert. Overall, a very warm, inviting meal at a reasonable price!

Fantastic food and great service.

By TF13 |

Our group of 4 had dinner here on a Saturday night. The place seems small, upon entering, but we did not feel cramped at all. We ordered 2 different appetizers, a cucumber salad and a bread basket with different topping for the bread. Both were very extremely good. For dinner we ended up ordering 4 different meat type of dishes to try "family" style and the food was outstanding. For desert we tried the Baklava and a warm pastry that was filled with some sort of cheese, nuts and honey. I cant begin to describe how good they were and highly recommend you try them both. On a side note, they serve Turkish beer here "Efes". Both the light and dark version. The dark version seems to be very hard to find, but has a full bodied taste and very smooth with no after taste. I highly recommend it.

Nice Turkish food

By Bhanik S |

Very good food. The cold meza consisting of spicy red pepper (forgot the name) is amazing. The bread which they gave also was yummy We also ordered the Musakka and it was very nice creamy and rich with flavor and taste. The kunafi (dessert) is a bit disappointing (way too sweet)

Friendly service, great food

By George C |

This restaurant was a real find, amongst the expensive mainstream restaurants in Mission Dolores. Fine and tasty Turkish food are served in a lively but not overwhelming ambiance by friendly and helpful staff

Great food and fantastic hospitality!

By JCHIII |

Having returned from a recent trip to Istanbul, we decided on Tuba for a birthday dinner with the family (two teenagers). It was great. The food was outstanding and made us feel like we were back in Turkey. Well prepared and seasoned, but not too much. The meze platter was just right. Main courses of adana kabab, chicken kebab, lamb cubes, eggplant. Everything was great. But what distinguished Tuba was the delightful hospitality. The host and servers were so nice to our family. You could see it in their casual pleasantness as new folks entered the restaurant. It felt like being welcomed into someone's home. It's these little extras that make things special, and Tuba has it.

Treat yourself to a memorable meal

By Paul R |

We have been to Tuba four or five times now - and we will will return. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The seating and lighting is for comfort of eye and body - neither overdone nor austere. As to the food, I don't believe that you can go wrong here. The food you like is cooked beautifully and served as though it came from the home kitchen of a very fine cook. The staff are calm, professional, and competent. Neither intrusive nor aloof. For us, a special place.

Frozen / canned vegetables

By Susie W |

Terrible experience. They used canned / frozen vegetables for their main vegan dish. Food quality was cheap, very bad quality. Bathroom was filthy.

Very good Turkish food experience

By Angelo P |

The venue is run by Turkish people, and that's definetely a plus 'cause they can cook something that is REAL turkish food! I've been there several times and never regreted to try something different: they never disappoint my taste! Other pleasant note is the service: always nice, ready to explain the content of the plates and to suggest something different. Give 'em a try, it is definetely worth of it!

Simply delicious

By FreqTrvl75 |

I was born and raised in the Middle East so needless to say very familiar (and picky) with that type of cuisine. We went to the restaurant based on a friend's recommendation and glad we did. The food was absolutely incredible. We ordered the Mezze platter since it included all the items in the cold appetizer section. That's the best route to go since you get the best of everything. We also ordered 2 main dishes for the 3 of us since the Mezze platter does fill you up. The meats are well seasoned and prepared. The service was very friendly and knowledgeable.

De- "light full " food!

By cavw1791 |

We went here in a recommendation from son and his Turkish girlfriend. Our eyes were bigger than our stomach though! We had two different appetizers; çli Köfte and Sigara Böreği and they were good! Then we had Manti, which wasn't in the menu, PLUS eggplant! I know! Oink, 🐷. I felt like I needed to be rolled out after finishing with Turkish coffee and Turkish delight...... except we were delightfully full. It's a small place, so I'd make reservations. We did.

Just OK......expected more.

By adriannecady |

After reading the many excellent reviews, I booked a table for two prior to my trip to San Francisco earlier this month. My father was born in Istanbul, and I grew up on Middle Eastern food in the home and have since made many Turkish dishes at home. We ordered the meze platter. The dolma..which we also call yalanchi...was only passable because the grape leaves were a bit tough. The piaz was just so-so, but the walnut spread was out of this world. The bread served was delicious. We shared the lamb shish kebab. It was plentiful, particularly after the large mezze platter, but I found the lamb was overcooked. I was also disappointed that they had run out of Efes beer. I had some on my trip to Turkey and loved it. I settled for my usual Stella, instead. The service was attentive, and our server was very sweet and accommodating. Perhaps it was an off-night. I know from experience that sometimes grape leaves are tough and it all depends on the vine or the soil or the weather. I would return to try other entrees as the ambiance and most of what we ordered was fine.

Exceptional Turkish cuisine and service

By Bill J |

Exceptional Turkish cuisine, efficiently served, attractively priced, with above average selection. Vegetarian and vegan dishes. Particularly enjoyed: Cevizli ezme cold appetizer or meze(outstanding), Mercimek corbasi salad, Falafel Salatasi salad, and Sebzeli Patican entree. While Kavaklidere Pendore red wine was pleasant enough it didn’t seem to have any particular taste worth trying again. Servers were a pleasure to work with. For those who enjoy Turkish music, it is played discreetly in the background.

Fabulous Turkish Dishes

By Rose O |

3 of us went here for dinner and were delighted with the mezzes and main dishes. We were in Turkey earlier this year and food was definitely Turkish. Highly recommend and would go back.

Lovely evening

By Lars Ö |

We found this restaurant since we stayed in the neighborhood and the whole family likes Turkish food. Already when we arrived there we got a feeling that it would be something extra. The staff was very friendly, professional and helpful and we ordered a big meze platter to share as a starter and it was really amazing. The main dish and dessert was also very good. We have had dinner in many Turkish restaurants (also in Turkey), but this was one of the best! Also the best food we had during our stay in San Francisco.

Hidden Gem Stone in San Francisco.

By lankershim |

A lot of people want travel to TURKEY. Some of people want travel for meet peoples who lives in there, someone get experince there food and someone see there scenry. If you travel turkey for taste Turkish food you don't have to travel to Turkey go to San Francisco and follow your navigation to TUBA restaurant. Not fancy not big not dirty. Small and clean friendly waiting staff's welcoming smile. Mostly turkish people not smile not but here. As you know FALAFEL is middle eastern food. Every middle eastern restaurant can eat FALAFEL but this place is not. FALAFEL on bed of HUMMUS is great!!!!!!!! TURKISH COFFEE also. No need explain go and get in AUTHENTIC TURKISH food.

Best Turkish meal in San Francisco

By David F |

First time at Tuba to celebrate my wife's birthday, and we really enjoyed the meal. We were immediately welcomed and felt at home. The appetizers all looked great, so rather than making a decision we ordered the Tuba Meze Tabağı, which included all the cold appetizers. We enjoyed sampling everything, with our favorite being the Patlıcan Salatası (pureed eggplant, very much like Baba Ganoush with a smokey flavor). This was way too much for the two of us so about half of it ended up in a to-go box. For the main course I ordered the Tavuk Şiş, a tender chicken skewered chicken. I'm always worried when I order a dish with small chunks of meat that are broiled that the meat will be dried out. That definitely wasn't the case here, with the chicken being juicy and flavorful. My wife ordered the Karnıyarık, an eggplant stuffed with ground beef. It was also really tasty. We ended up taking a lot of our food home to enjoy the next evening (between the huge appetizer plate and our generous portions). We opted not to have dessert, but were happily surprised when the entire staff encircled our table and sang happy birthday to my wife, delivering a wonderful chocolate mouse surrounded by a hard chocolate shell (I don't know the name of the dish, I don't see it on their menu). See photo... really special. Service was very good, but we had several people serving us, so a few times communications were crossed. We'll definitely return. It was a very special night, made better by the great food and helpful staff.

If you would like to eat Mediterranean food anytime you want with high standart taste it is the right place in LA. I really feel great when I come here with my colleagues the best. The real thing is here is the cozy and yummy together. I'll what I gotta do trying to get here with the family of my own in the future.

Tuba serves delicious Turkish food. Make sure to try the hot appetizer platter, manti, and kabobs.

Great breakfast

By Steven B |

Cute creperie/ café, great for breakfast, brunch & lunch for sure. Lots of menu choices that look great. Nice attentive staff. Order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Very casual. Would definitely come back again.

Friendly staff and flavorful kebabs

By Familytravelmaven |

We tried two meses- cucumber mint yogurt and the signature walnut/red pepper/cumin spread. They served it with some flatbread and other light toppings. Both were delicious in their own way- one cool and the other spicy. For dinner we shared the lamb/beef kebab and it was served with several vegetable sides that satisfied everyone. We then shared the cheese dessert which was a special pistachio topped sweet crunchy treat. Delicious flavors and warm friendly surrounding!

A gem in SF!

Our love for Tuba never ends! This place is amazing.. great food, quality with fabulous service. What's not to love? I've tried most of their appetizers here and my favorites are haydari ( which is the yogurt with dill) Icli kofta (on the hot mezzas) and their signature mezza( it's a mix of crushed walnuts, As for the entrees, we usually get the Adana kebab. It's spicy but very tasty. Their lamb shank is also wonderful. It comes with 4 large pieces of lamb shank, side rice, veggies, yogurt and pickles. These are the same sides for the Adana kabab. They bring their home made bread as well along with a bit of butter, olive oil and feta cheese. It's so good! They have highlighted their gluten free items on their menu. ( that's an added bonus for us)

I would rate it a 6 if I could!

We met 2 local friends here, and had such a good meal and a wonderful time. The best Turkish food we've had outside of Turkey! It was reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. We also had good wines along with our mezes.

Turkish, indeed!

I have to admit that I was not expecting what I found at Tuba. The place is small and tight. The service is well intended and courteous…but the food…ohhh the food….that is all that matters. If you have ever been to Turkey you will appreciate the flavors and the overall experience. The food is authentic, for sure! I couldn’t get enough of the prawns sautéed with tomatoes and garlic in pepperoncini sauce topped with feta cheese (Peynirli Karides). Dipping the pita bread (which is incredibly fresh and tasty) into that sauce was to die for. I would go back just for that! When the bulgur stuffed with spicy ground beef and crushed walnuts (İçli Köfte) came along I swore that I would return just for that as well. But when we tried the Lamb Chops marinated for 3 days and flame-broiled (Kuzu Pirzola), that is when we decided that we would come back for it all…repeatedly! Portions are big. Don’t expect luxury. Most importantly, make a reservation.

Best Turkish / Mediterranean food in San Francisco!

Best Turkish / Mediterranean food in San Francisco! Good quality great menu I would recommend the hot and cold mezes and the dolma - grape leaves stuffed with rice, pine nuts and currants. so very tasty. Good service

Great San Francisco neighborhood restaurant

By Jennifer-of-SF |

If you'd like to get off the beaten path and experience a restaurant that exemplifies the unique culinary and cultural experiences you can have in SF then I recommend Tuba. It's in the Mission neighborhood but not on Valencia Street where lots of tourist go. It's at an intersection that has a couple restaurants & bars, which is very SF (no chain restaurants). They have a couple tables outside & if it's warm enough it's lovely to sit out there. The Turkish food is flavorful and well made. It's unique and interesting and just plain yummy. The owner was super friendly and came out to talk to us. He even remembered us and said hi when we say him the next day out in the neighborhoods. It's easy to get to. Take the bart to 24th & Mission. Head east on 24th. Turn right on Guerrero and walk to 22nd. Tuba is about 3 doors from the intersection.

Dinner Out Turned Takeout

When the babysitter couldn’t make it, we changed our reservation to a takeaway order. The food was ready right when we were told it would be. The woman who brought it to us and took payment was very pleasant and efficient and the room was warm and inviting. The food was great though we didn’t realize that the entrees all come with salads so we ordered salads and had way too much salad in the end. The appetizers were our favorites. We loved the cigars, the bulgar kofte with ground beef filling, the mucver (amazing vegetable patties), the pepper walnut pate, and the prawns (though the promised mango was very sparse). The smokey eggplant salad was nice as was the Turkish Salad. The main dishes were also good - chicken skewers and the beef patties - but the real gems are the starters, and you can easily make a meal out of only those.

Better than Istanbul food

We always have to accommodate our daughter who is vegan and we found this place that has vegan options. The place is popular so make a reservation in advance. The service and the many dishes we picked were very delicious, kind of pricy but good for a group outing.

Wonderful and Authentic!

By Sandra S |

This is a small restaurant, big on great food, great service and wonderful ambiance! We started with the Dolma and Hummas, both really delicious. We then had the Lamb Shank and the Kuzu Sis (Lamb Shish Kebab), both really delicious and cooked to perfection. We ended our meal with a wonderful dessert of layered phyllo dough, melted sweet cheese in the middle and a sweet sauce. Turkish coffee topped the meal completely and we are so glad that we tried this little gem of a restaurant. It was the best meal we had during our weekend stay in the City!

Wow...authentic Turkish food. It was Excellent. What a Gem

By Dakotagirl777 |

We are from SD...so when we travel we really enjoy trying new things. The food was beyond excellent. The service was superb...they explained everything on the menu and both my husband and I were very happy with our selections. It is very reasonably priced, extremely clean and comfortable. When they found out it was our 30th wedding anniversary trip we were given a complimentary dessert. I highly recommend this restaurant. Many locals eat here...that say a lot!!

affordable dining

Great service, terrific Turkish food, family owned, affordable and nearby to Noe's Nest, clean with nice ambience

Delightful food, staff, & atmosphere

By ycomtom |

Tuba is wonderful in it's small space at 1007 Guerrero in San Francisco. A charming and efficient staff manages the tight quarters beautifully. The menu is Turkish mediterranean with lovely presentations of flavorsome recipes. The appetizer plate presented a nice variety of hummus and tapenades for our table of six. Lamb Shanks, fresh salmon and salads were excellent. We chose red and white Turkish varietal wines which matched the food well. In house desserts were accompanied with traditional Turkish coffees served in specialty china. Reservations are wise due to the small capacity. Street parking. Offering comfortable and delicious dining. Don't miss this one. It's a winner!

simple but genuine middle eastern food

By marrei |

In the more quiet and less crazy part of the Mission, this tiny restaurant offers genuine fresh middle eastern food in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere The prices are honest and the service friendly and good

Delicious Turkish affair

By adelZman |

Nice location on reasonably quiet street. If you're lucky you may find parking on the street right outside the door (we did)! The appetizers were great. Try the combo plate. Also the icli kifteh (like kibbeh) was very tasty. The complimentary bread was fresh and great. The main courses we tried were great. Names were all in Turkish so can't recall them but they all had adequate description attached that you can easily figure it out. Desserts were great.

BIG portions low prices

By haydenmlh |

The food is very good. It is a cute place. The wine list is reasonable. The portions are HUGE. For two we ordered the sampler appetizer plate, moussaka and mixed grill plate. we took the entire mixed grill plate home with us.

Always Wonderful

By Burney A |

My partner and I love this restaurant for many reasons and go at least once a month. We have taken many friends with us over the months and the reaction is always the same: great food, wonderful service, and a charming atmosphere to dine in. The menu is oriented toward Turkish/Mediterranean cuisine so there is a little of the exotic in the plates. The various grilled meats kabob-style are prepared wonderfully. My personal favorite is the chicken kabob done with onions and green peppers. Because of its location in a non-tourist frequented part of the city you have mostly SF neighborhood locals so you know it's got to be doing something good to keep them coming back for more.

Amazing food and service!

The food is to die for!! Best Turkish food we've ever had and we've been to Turkey many times. The service was amazing. The staff are so friendly!

$15 corkage, get a reservation as it was packed at 7 on a tuesday night!

By Magnamosa |

first experience with Turkish food and it was fantastic. 2-3 blocks from the 24th/mission bart station. felt a bit silly with our 6:15 reservation as we were the first ones there but by 7 pm there was a line out the door. food was creative, really delish and we were stuffed when we left. had the Cevizli Ezme (a touch spicy and so good with their homemade bread) Karidesli Salata (really good size bowl of salad perfectly dressed with 4 huge shrimp) Adana Kebab (very tasty with variety of enhancements such as a yogurt sauce, pickles, peppers and finally Hünkar Beğendi (absolutely intoxicating eggplant, a few chunks of peppers and a nice sauce. the food was a bit slow to come out at first but they got busy so fast! excellent friendly staff. can't wait to go back!

Toot Toot for Tuba

By SanFranciscoGuy634 |

This restaurant is definitely a neighborhood place. It's a medium walk from Mission Dolores and Dolores Park, so dinner here can be easily combined with some cultural wanderings. We happened upon Tuba one day when we were making our way from the Mission to Bi-Rite grocery store. It looked so good that we decided to come back for dinner. We did. Yum yum were the first words that came to mind. Really good Turkish food. A very warm welcome from the host/owner. Great service. It's nice to eat someplace that just does everything well in a very genuine way. Not a destination for the obsessive foodies. Just a very enjoyable dinner with good food. Try it.

The best meal we ate while visiting SF

By Mindi P |

We chose Tuba based on Yelp reviews and we were not disappointed. We were a party of 7, and each of us tried something different and loved what they ordered. The wait staff was very attentive and the service was excellent. Though we were not planning to order dessert , the waiter heard us drinking a toast to my MIL for her birthday and brought her a slice of chocolate cake with a candle and the plate had Happy Birthday written in chocolate sauce. What a wonderful surprise and a great way to finish off a fabulous meal!

Delicious kebabs and mezes

By MohitaJ |

Came to this little neighborhood place in the Mission and loved it. We had excellent mezes to start, in particular the walnut/red pepper paste. It's deeply flavored and slightly crunchy, goes really well wtih their fresh bread. My dinner was the eggplant covered with ground meat, again a very savory dish. My husband had the Donar (sp?) kebab which was completely juicy. Great food. Desserts were a little too sticky sweet - I would recommend sticking with the Turkish coffee or tea instead. Service was very personable - the waitress made recommendations quickly and confidently. Only issue - it was a warm day (unusual for SF) and felt very uncomfortable inside the restaurant. We were able to sit outside but bewarned there is no air conditioning.

Turkish Restaurant without Doner?

By Arrastape |

Being a big fan of Turkish cuisine, I was disappointed to find that the menu at Tuba did not offer the delights of Doner Kebab. But of course, this is a more upscale Turkish restaurant located in a less traveled part of the Mission District that would shy away from being associated with the "fast-food" karma of Doners. I was especially impressed with "Cevizli Esme", a purée of roasted red bell peppers, walnuts, tomato paste, garlic and olive oil served with fresh Turkish bread. However, the Adana Kebab fell short of expectations perhaps because the blend of lamb and beef tasted as if they went through a food processor instead of being ground therefore lacking texture to chew on. Nevertheless, the service was friendly and attentive.

Get the sea bream

By Michelle J |

The food was okay. The sea bream definitely stood out though. For the prices, I would say it’s expensive and most likely would not go back.

Great Turkish meal and quite nice wine

By Sherwood S |

Two of us enjoyed a fine meal. Nice Turkish spices in the Haydari (yogurt with cucumber and spices) and in the marinated lamb chops! The falafel salad was nice too, with a light (not overpowering) dressing. We asked for recommendations for Turkish wine by the glass, one dry white and one full-bodied, dry red. Both were very nice. The host and our waiter were friendly and the service was very good. This was better than most of the Turkish food that I have enjoyed on my many trips to Germany (a few were comparable). The place was busy, with a moderate noise level. Both the Haydari and the lamb chops were just a bit salty, but I did not mind (those more sensitive to salt may wish to ask for less salt).

Halal Turkish Food

By WorldTraveler Z |

This place serves Turkish food. The venue is small, but I've noticed that it's a common thing in SF. Food is extremely delicious, service is excellent and prices are average. The ambiance is nice, very Turkish. We called an hour before we go because we didn't know if we needed any reservation, good that we did, because the place was very busy, looks like a popular place in the area, so call before you move.

Great dinner

By Adam M |

Grabbed a quick dinner with biz partner on way to airport. Service was fast as we had a deadline and they helped us meet the time constraint. I had the chicken sis. Very tender and the mix of veggies was great. Partner has the beef kabob. Delicious. I had a couple bites and it had a nice spicy kick. Good bread service and soup was spot on. I wish we didn’t have to rush but such is travel.

what a surprise...turkish food!

By Janet P |

and it was excellent. the meze is especially wonderful and the portions are large. any meze is delicious and one could make a meal of meze! yet unlike other restaurants that wow you with the appetizers and then fall flat, the main courses were also excellent and varied, time was taken with each preparation and it showed. desserts were ok but the two we tried were not outstanding...we will try the traditional baklava when we go back...because we will go back! and the staff is outstanding, the pace was excellent and they work together as a team...we never felt we were sitting and waiting at all.

Warm, comforting atmosphere, with delightful Turkish cuisine

By Jim B |

If you're looking for a different dining experience in San Francisco's Mission District, you won't find a better place than Tuba. Like the name implies, the restaurant serves authentic Turkish cuisine and it is outstanding! I went there with some friends for dinner last night and we couldn't have been more pleased. The lamb chops are delicious; some of the best I have ever tasted. My wife ordered Adana Kabab (spicy ground meat) which also was wonderful. The service is friendly and efficient; the ambience low key and very welcoming. Prices are moderate. The only downside I might say is the wine list. A bottle of Turkish wine is priced at $59, which in my opinion is rather high. You might be better off to forget about authenticity stick with a basic California white or red. But, what really makes Tuba such a pleasant place to have dinner are the servers. The entire staff is wonderful!

High prices make it very good instead of excellent

By travel2findoneself |

The Turkish food is really good and the wait staff good at explaining the entrees. Great options for vegetarians and food comes out sizzling...However the prices are way too exorbitant... They need to be slightly more affordable...

Off the tourist track, best Turkish in the Bay Area

By William B |

We inadvertently wandered by (actually induced by a coupon) and found gracious service, a marvelous menu, and the best Turkish food in the Bay Area if not most of the U.S. The appetizers were reminiscent of what we've had in Turkey -- very attentively prepared and served. The lamb dishes were also spectacular.
