Arrived just before 6 p.m. to a nearly empty restaurant; a bit busier when we left. Greeted promptly, drinks arrived, and order taken. We shared the tamale plate; they were good but served with a brown sauce that was new to us (it was good, too). Chips were warm and very good, salsa had a smokey hint to it which I liked. A bit on the expensive side.

I literally just had dinner there and let me tell you, I was not impressed with it’s staff or higher ticket food. For starters, the green chicken enchilada dinner that I chose, the chicken was extremely over peppered and the $9 queso tasted like velveeta. The "G.M'Mauricio is beyond rude and hostile. After, one of the establishment's waiters ran out to the parking lot, as we were about to drive off, approached us about the tip. Let me start off by saying, I myself have been in the service industry both waiting tables and managing the restaurant, I completely understand that waitors live off of the tip. This one however, was not our true waitor. He only took our order of waters and never spoke to us. He just so happened to put his name on our ticket. We later then called to speak with a manager about the unpleasant experience we just had. Mauricio got on the phone and became confrontational. He started arguing with us and basically making it seem as if our feedback was unimportant and the experience we had was not what we claimed it was. He then THREATENED my boyfriend! For a place that sells melted velveeta for $9, I would expect a more professional staff and better cuisine. Not some bouncer for a manager. I recommend everyone else to Mi Cocina VS this place, any day!

Food was ok. Resturant worker (maybe manager) spent our entire visit with no mask on even though it is a requirement in Dallas county. He stood near other employees, guests and passed right beside our table several times without a mask. If they can't do their part during the pandemic they will not be getting any more of our money and we have already warned friends and family to stay away.

We have heard about this place for a few years. Someone told us about the names of some of dishes paying tribute to Aggie traditions. But, I didn't know much else about it. My husband and I decided to give it a try. It felt like an upscale Mexican restaurant, nicely decorated and very attentive staff. The chips were light and crispy and the salsa was great. I got the chicken embuelto (which seemed like a chimichanga) smothered in chili sauce and queso. Oh my goodness it was delicious but it was a lot of food and I only ate half of it. It came with fantastic guacamole and yummy borracho beans. My husband got the West Texas enchiladas which are more like a lasagna stacked enchilada instead of rolled up. He loved it. We'll definitely go back and I plan on trying something else: there are so many great dishes (several of the enchiladas looked great and the smell of the fajitas at other tables was amazing!)

Been waiting years to say that. Everything I had was great: taco al carbon, puffy taco which has a generous portion of meat inside (take a hint Rafa’s!) and cheese enchiladas and cheese tacos which are soft and cheesy. Generous portions of quality food. Eating at Tupinambas on NW hwy in the 1970s was a special event!

We were at a family reunion ad after our fill of family we snuck away for some chips and salsa a quiet dinner. The service was excellent, ample food, great drinks, and a friendly atmosphere. What's not to love!

Finally real puffy tacos are available in Dallas. Not puffed tacos like many Dallas area restaurants, but authentic San Antonio style puffy tacos! My wife has been searching for these in DFW for many years to no avail, but Tupinamba Café has finally come through. Thank you, thank you, thank you. The atmosphere was nice and café was clean. Chips and salsa were great as was the attentive service.

Had a Tex Mex meal at Tupinamba Cafe in Dallas. Truly average experience with average service. Not a definite repeat experience.

This place was awesome for a Sunday morning hangover! Love the Tupi tacos and dig the salad/lettuce dressing/sauce! It's different and a great change up from regular Tex-Mex. I'll definitely be back soon!!!!

I was pleasantly surprised by the food at this cafe. I had a late dinner here one evening, and the food was extremely fresh. The rice was to die for. The one complaint I have is that more salsa options, especially for heat lovers, are needed. If you're into quality tex-mex, then Tupinambá Café will not disappoint!

My husband and I always love to sit at the bar for a quick dinner. Great service and the food never disappoints!

Because my first visit several weeks ago was so good I decided to take my son and his friend to dinner here tonight. I ordered the Lauren's Special and was extremely disappointed in the meal as the chicken was so overcooked I could barely cut it with a knife.

We love the food and people at Tupinamba Cafe! Rarely if ever do I write a review of any restaurant, but I felt compelled to do so tonight. Why? Because at Tupinambas, I find not only good food and drink, but wonderful people running the restaurant, from the owner to the wonderful greeters/hostess/hostesses to the waiter/waitresses to the entire staff. They care about us, the customers, but they seem to care about each other. To me, they are a team, a family....period! I personally love a team working together to make sure a customer receives great food, drink, and service. At Tumpinamba, my wife and I witness that. Thank you to all of you at Tumpinamba that work so hard to make the customer experience exceptional! I started to name names of all the people at Tupinamba that make for a great lunch/dinner, but I was afraid I would leave out someone. In late March, my wife and children threw a surprise birthday party for me at Tupinamba. The surprise birthday party was indeed a surprise to me, but it was no surprise that our friends loved the food, drink, and hospitality of those serving us. Kudos to my wife, kids and to Tupinamba for a great night with family and friends! Finally, call me old fashioned, but I applaud Tumpinamba for closing on holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc. so employees can spend time with their families. That is indeed special! Blessings, Brent

What can I say? Tupis' never disappoints! We used to live in Dallas but since moved away. We were in Dallas for a visit and just HAD to stop by Tupi's for dinner. I am glad we saw that they moved since we last visited in 2011. The new location is much nicer. It is clean and the staff is friendly. As usual, the food was authentic, delicious and the portions were HUGE. I highly recommend the guacamole. The Tupi tacos are also a must-have. My husband always gets the Mexican Flag and it is an absolutely delicious dish. Free home-made nacho chips and salsa come to the table when you sit down. The only down-side to this restaurant is that you leave absolutely STUFFED! Love it! We can't wait to go back to Tupi's the next time we visit.

Great tacos! If u have never had the tupy taco-just try it. Service is ok. Didn't have to ask for anything but it isn't what it should be. If the service would match the food this would be a 5.

Great for quick but good Mexican food. Everything we had was excellent. The service was good and fast. Would definitely go back.

Took my daughter here for lunch. She loved it. Food was great and service was better. Only thing was that thing they called a tamale. It had a hard shell that had to be cracked open. Inside was ? meat. Other than the surprise tamale thing food and service were wonderful. Our go to place for Mexican now (without the thing).

Best Tex-Mex I have had in Dallas, one of best in all of DFW. Tried cheese enchiladas with chili con carne, cheese taco, tupi taco, and chili relleno, all great. Top shelf margarita was excellent and strong. Anxious to try the San Antonio style puffy tacos. Will definitely be back!

Tupi's is known for it's wonderful food, friendly servers and fun atmosphere. We've been eating here for many, many years, even though they've moved several times. Their frozen margaritas are the best anywhere, hands down!

We were in town for a birthday celebration and our group of 25 had a room that allowed us to all dine together. The service was efficient and friendly and they happily gave people separate checks, which made payment super easy. The food was good and everyone enjoyed it. The salsa was tasty and the chips plentiful. I didn't have a cocktail but those in our party who did seemed to enjoy them. My husband and I had the shrimp cocktail, which came in a gigantic glass, but much of it was a very watery cocktail sauce. We also had the combo fajitas, which were abundant and tasty. We did have to ask a few times for the tortillas, but we were with a big group and there was a lot going on. There's plenty of parking out front of the restaurant.

I would say that this is some of the best Tex-Mex food that I've had in Dallas. There is nothing fancy about this food or this place, but it is worth the visit. Great flavor in the dishes, great salsa (a must in Texas) and friendly service. I would highly recommend eating here.

This cafe is a great place to have tasty mexican dishes in an authentic athmosphere. They have a wide selection of chili, fajitas etc. which is served within short time by a very friendly staff. They have as well outdide seating. Great place for a nice dinner!

We recently dined at Tupinamba for the first time. It is a lovely restaurant. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. Our server was attentive and accommodating. The food was delicious, and so were the margaritas. We will definitely return!

For over 60 years I have been eating in this Family owned place. They have moved many times and the food never changes. Tupy tacos are so oooooo Wonderful as are the cheese tacos and the enchiladas. In fact I have never gotten a bad meal EVER. My folks moved to Blue Ridge near Farmersville but when ever I come home we find an excuse to drive to the big city for a feast of the best Mexican food anywhere...

but a long time one. The new location is convenient, the space well done and inviting. The service is average to very good. The food, Lordy, the food.....its as if they don't have a chef, at least one who knows Tex-Mex. We made our third and last visit last night. Tortilla soup was the worst I've tasted. Tacos were close dry and tasteless. Re fried beans were without a doubt from a can. Kids had French fries that were cool and mushy. The highlight of the dinner were the chips, not the salsa, just the chips. Place was standing room only.....can't imagine why. Wish them well, just won't be with me.

My mother and I recently ate here, it was so good, we ate here twice in one week. I grew up on Mexican food in west Texas, so for me, this is the type of Mexican food I love. The tortilla chips were crispy, not to light, not to heavy. The salsa was perfect just the right amount of heat and great consistency. We ordered the "Shelby" dip and it was a huge portion for two, but we took the rest home with fresh flour tortillas. I had the sour cream chicken enchiladas, which were very good. Lastly the rice and beans were, not to runny, not to thick and the rice had a nice flavor without a lot of extras (I personally don't care for the rice at some places with added vegetables.) On the second visit, I had the Pollo Pechuga which was excellent as well, very tender with an amazing flavor. The decor was bright and spacious and the staff was very friendly. The parking was easy. I will definitely be back.

Go here all the time ,very good. Lately it’s been better than Mi Cochin, or El Fenix. Consistently Good. If you haven’t gone give it a try.

My family and I dined at Tupinamba Café with some friends last week. I always thought that it was a hole in the wall and never had it on my radar. I am very particular about Mexican food, and if you have read any of my other reviews, I am particular about food in general. I was pleasantly surprised. My kids even asked when we are going back. I am not a big drinker - but, I'll have to tell you, the margarita was amazing. Salsa and chips were fresh, service was great and food was excellent (we had fajitas, enchiladas and a tostada). The restaurant is very nice and new - just a pleasant place to dine. We will definitely go back.

"This place is awesome, it's actually the second time that we have hosted his birthday dinner there. The first time was in 2016. The atmosphere is great, the waiter's are friendly when, and the people that come there are like no other! Everyone speaks to you which makes you feel welcome. Our dinner guest started singing happy birthday to my husband and the next thing we knew the whole intire restaurant was singing...it was awesome! The food is great and the drinks of choice are plenty. You won't be disappointed at this place! If you happen to go on a Saturday night I suggest you make dinner reservations. The place may be packed and you may have a 30 minute wait on a table, but it's worth it!

We have frequented Tupinamba for years and are happy to now have them close by. The food and service are typically excellent. Puffed tacos are usually my go to along with margarita/sangria swirl. It's a favorite spot for our extended family gatherings. We loves the chips and salsa although last night we experienced a first.. terribly stale chips. We asked for fresh batch and waiter said they were cold. He took basket, heated, returned with warm stale chips. Hopefully this was a one time fluke so we'll be back.

Great surprise; stop just for fun with low expectations but food and whole experience was quite good. Traditional Mexican Food very well presented and prepared. Fajitas are great..

Had a surprise birthday party at Tupinamba Café in August 2016. They placed us in a private room with a large screen TV. Everything was great, the people and the food.

Solid, old-school Tex-Mex done well. The Tupy Tacos are a must — crispy, satisfying, and kind of nostalgic. Service is friendly, portions generous, and you can tell this place has history. Not fancy, but reliable and comforting every time.

Having lived in Dallas for 25 years from the 70's to the mid-90's we feel we have cultivated a taste for good authentic Mexican food. While living in Dallas, Tupinamba's was on our weekly "go to" list of places to eat. The food is always fresh and delicious. To name a few menu items, their puffy taco, fajitas, beef enchiladas with chili con carne are all divine! The list could go on and on.... these are a just few we ordered this weekend while in Dallas attending our daughter's wedding. Sorry Florida, you just can't compete when it comes to good old Tex Mex.

Had been wanting to go here for quite sometime. I actually went twice this past week. The Chilie Reino is excellent. Great service ... friendly staff!

I have been there several times, but this is the first time I write a review. I ordered veggie quesadillas and my friend spinach enchiladas. Botha were very good and very generous portions. The salsa and chips are good and service was very great and prompt. The have a very nice patio. I recommend this place . Prices may seem a little high but when you see your large portions it is worth it.

To start, the wife says that their margarita game is legendary. The Puffy Tacos were good. Enchiladas and fajita quesadillas all got high marks from everyone around the table. We'll be back - and next time we'll bring our largest appetites. Lots to eat. Pretty reasonably priced - not "cheap eats", but felt like we paid for what we got.

This is one of my brother's "go-to" Mexican places in Dallas. We went with his family and had the usual Mexican delights from Queso to Taco Salads to Quesadillas to Fajitas to Puff Tacos to Spinach Enchiladas, to Bohemias and Wine. All was good and our service was good, too.
Great service, home made chips/salsa and all entrees!
Great service, home made chips/salsa and all entrees! Loved the queso dip, pork, chicken enchiladas, grilled shrimp and more.
