A hidden gem

By Vasanth N |

We went to dinner to Turmeric Thai Kitchen this weekend. It was a great find. It's tucked away at the corner of a small shopping complex. I saw great reviews online and decided to try it out. The ambience was great with a good outdoor setting. It had a more upscale setting than the standard Thai restaurant. Food was delicious although the menu is limited. Every item was fantastic especially the Thai fried rice. I highly recommend this restaurant to people looking for a nice low key gem in the la Jolla area.

Hidden hidaway worth looking for

Turmeric Thai Kitchen was off the beaten path. Will worth the find. I was surprised by how busy the place was. I had the Red Curry it was very good. I would recommend anyone looking for some good Thai food to try this place out.

Definitely a find!

By Barbara P |

This is a great little Thai place with wonderful food and service on the top of Mt. Soledad. You would never find on your own. Casual place wit great service. Our favorites dishes are beef jerky, chicken larb, and panang curry. Love being able to bring a bottle of wine.

Love This Thai Restaurant

By KBSLC |

Up on Mt. Soledad hill and tucked back in a small shopping center, the Thai food is fresh and delicious. Six of us ordered different appetizers and entrees. Sharing these tasty dishes was a great culinary experience. We enjoyed every mouthful from the fresh springrolls to the larb to drunken noodles to curry. All appetizers and six entrees were well worth coming back again and again. Now this is a very small restaurant run by a family and it is wise to make a reservation. They do not have wine or liquor. They only charge $5.00 for wine corkage. The prices are extremely reasonable. We will return again to this little restaurant.

Best Thai Ever!

Hidden gem! Best Thai food in town. We don’t go anywhere else. Good quality food and very tasty. Good service as well.

Great food but very slow lunch service

By CHris H |

I took three co-workers to lunch and the food was very good. The waiter brought four drinks without using a tray and he was awkward and not proficient. There were three others tables dining at the restaurant. The food was really good but the restaurant was under staffed and the one waiter was untrained . For simple food, it took over one hour for four people.

Great experience

By MexicoLucy |

This is a hidden gem in a residential area of La Jolla. Located at the entrance of a gated community, the place is cute and the food is excellent! Starting with the Tom kha soup, the curries, pineapple chicken, pad thai, everything cooked to perfection.

Good place to start

By Robert Ruesterholtz |

I was taken there by a girl friend of mine, because she loves Thai food and because I had only one previous experience and it wasn't good. I decided on what I wanted ( not a big fan of curry ) and ordered. The server was very helpful and asked me a few questions about what I expected and then asked how spicy I would like it. This was awesome as the last time I had Thai it was soooooo hot I could not enjoy it and my stomach went on strike for the next 2 days. I ordered level2 and it was delish. The rice was perfect and the service prompt and proper, I will return there often as itis close to home, but a very good dining experience.

Real deal!

Awesome food, and authentic. We typically order for take out- and it never disappoints! Love the curry dishes, and the pad Thai is to die for!

A hidden neighborhood gem

This lovely Thai restaurant is in the Windemere complex in La Jolla. It has expanded and now has outside dining and a separate bar area. Excellent Thai food.

Hidden Gem!

By EuroPeanut |

Found this gem on recent trip to LaJolla. It is kind of hidden in a small strip mall tucked in a corner on the South Side of Mt. Soledad. Thai food was great and outdoor seating had nice ambiance. Good service. Will definitely visit again on our next trip to LaJolla.

Everything way too sweet for this palate!

By asiacentury2000 |

I've lived and worked in Thailand, cooked Thai food and have sampled Thai restaurants on 3 continents. The Tumeric Thai Kitchen was highly recommended by a Southeast Asian friend (non-Thai). However, I was somewhat disappointed by the sweetness of it all. There were 3 diners in our party, ordering 3 main courses and 1 appetizer (crispy fried tofu, shrimp with asparagus, chicken green curry and a beef dish) and fried banana with ice cream for dessert. All of these dishes were sweeter than I'm used to - even by Thai sweetness standard (it's not unusual for some Thai restaurants in Thailand to have a container of sugar at the table so that diners can add sugar to their food!) Even the dipping sauce for the fried tofu was too sweet. Aside from the sweetness of the dishes, my chicken green curry would not be recognizable in Thailand. There this dish would include kafir lime and Thai eggplant. Instead of these crucial ingredients, the green curry dish at the TTK contained zucchini, red and green bell pepper.... Having said all that, this restaurant has been at this same location for several years and seems to be doing a thriving business, despite the lack of clear signage and lights. We were there for more than 2 hours on a weeknight and the turn-over of guests was impressive. I suppose the chef at TTK has found the secret to satisfy the local taste, authenticity be damned!!

Good thai place on Mount soledad

By gzau |

Turmeric is located inside the Windermere complex so it's of the main road. You have to know it's there to find it. It is very popular and the that food is good. They have both indoors and outside seating. You can also order take out. One of the better that places in the area.

Lot of good food for a good price on a nice patio

By Benjamin L |

If you have the opportunity to go, reserve a table on the patio which is very enjoyable. We had a lot of healthy & good food for a very good price. The service is not amazing I would say, just good enough.

My favorite family rrstaurant

By Bernhard W |

Very small. Hard to find for non locals (yes, it is in the back of the little mall just outside of Windermere). Pricing is really good for the quality of food! Outstanding food. Pasta, rice, Curry. Bring your own alcoholic beverage. They don’t have a liquor license. But, wait, there is a small deli right in front of the restaurant. And they do sell beer and wine for you to take! Life can be so simple and good!

A gem

By 625RL |

Really love their curries here especially the beef Panang. Also, like the eggplant dish. Delicious food, above average service, a little pricey for the food but overall, always have had a good meal.location is in a little strip mall right in front of a gated community.

A delightful lunch of appetizers

By GoodyTravels |

We found this little gem on Yelp and it was a great find. We went for lunch but the appetizers looked wonderful so we had 5 appetizers. All 5 were outstanding and filling. That’s why we didn’t order main courses though we wanted to. We ordered crispy spring rolls, chicken lettuce wrap, chicken satay, basil lime mussels and Larb. We will definitely go back.

I shouldn’t disclose my secret!

By Bernhard W |

This place is simply amazing and one of my local favorites! Man, I can even walk there! Anyway, a true Thai restaurant. Owned and operated by Thai. Limited food selection but all of is is superb and at fantastic pricing. Better make a reservation. They are booked most of the time. Little hard to find as it is at the end of a very small strip mall. Oh, and they don’t have a liquor license! You either bring your own, which most people do, or you buy what you want at the little deli right in front of it. But careful, they close at 8!

Best Thai Food in San Diego

By CarleighHaubach |

That's a bold title, but this amazing little restaurant deserves it. This is simply the best Thai food I have ever eaten. The lettuce wraps are delicious. The curries are fantastic and the drunken noodles is lip-smacking! The service is attentive and friendly.

Great Thai food, friendly server, loved this place!

By Dawn F |

We were pleasantly surprised with Turmeric. They have great reviews, and they deserve them. Our waiter was very friendly and accommodating. I loved that when I asked his opinion on different dishes, he told me what he thought. A lot of times it feels like people just tell you what the restaurant wants them to, or try to steer you towards the more expensive items. We are vegetarian, and they had a nice selection of items for us to choose from. For a starter, we shared tofu spring rolls, which were tasty. We then ate a bowl of tom yum and a bowl of tom kha. Both were delicious and spicy (at our request). Unlike some Thai restaurants, they actually put in more peppers to make the food spicy when you ask for a high level of heat. We were sweating and our noses were running, but we liked it! We also ate spicy basil tofu and tofu drunken noodles. Both were plentiful and delicious. They provide four different sauces (spicy) to add to your food, and additionally brought us some pickled jalapenos. I also enjoyed an awesome iced coffee that woke me right up. It was an excellent night.

Loved Turmeric Thai

By LaliBird |

We had an excellent lunch at Turmeric Thai. We had Drunken Noodle with added broccoli and Pad Thai. There was not a problem changing our order which is nice as some places will not deviate from menu. We will return

Delicious Thai Food

By Gail N |

The food here is absolutely wonderful - fresh ingredients spiced and seasoned to perfection in the classic Thai way. We specified a spice level of 2 and could still feel a bit of heat - the way we like it! We had the larb (sooooo good), chicken satay (grilled to perfection), Tom Kha soup (one of the best we ever tasted) and the Crying Tiger rib steak (very, very good). The service on Sunday evening was wonderful. The restaurant is large and was about half full when we arrived. We sat in the patio to enjoy the pleasant fall evening and the heater kept things cozy. The prices are quite reasonable considering the quality of the food. Tumeric Thai is tucked away in a small mall near the top of Mt. Soledad, not hard to find with google maps!

OK, lived in Windemere for a long time and finally got take out a couple of times. It is great and the price is right. Dining in looks fun and you can BYOB.

Great place for lunch in La Jolla!

By Camellia S |

We met here for lunch on Satuday with friends. We sat in the very pleasant and breezy outdoor seating area. We ordered 6-7 dishes to share and it was a spectacular feast! All the different flavors and aromas was just amazing. Even the salad was incredibly good. The green curry, which I've never had was so good we scraped the sauce before they took away the empty serving dish! The side sauce for the Crying Tiger was so hard to decipher. We were all guessing what the ingredients were before we finally asked the server. The fried rice was a bonus. I thought it would be too much in addition to all the variety of flavors. But no, it worked pretty well. Finally the mango sticky rice for dessert was wow! Sweet, sticky with just a hint of saltiness and crunch that brought out the great flavor of the mangoes. The prices of each dish was very reasonable between $9-12 and that is something coming from some of the most $ particular Asian friends I have. If there was anything I would say that needed tweaking, I'd say more rice to go with the dishes. Although if you ordered from the lunch entree section of the menu, rice came with it for free. Also, since it was my first time here, I thought the GPS was leading us astray because we were taken to a residential neighborhood right up to the guard shack of a gated community. I had to make a u-turn at the guard shack because i missed the entrance to the restaurant. So when you see the guard shack, make a quick right into the not so obvious parking lot.

Best authentic Thai restaurant

By Pureza V |

Came here for Father’s with 9 people. I only made reservation for 4, but the staff made sure we were comfortably seated; and this was during the early evening rush. They serve the most authentic Thai dishes, very delicious, plus, reasonably priced.

Best Thai Spot in San Diego

By Corah |

This hidden gem has the best thai food I have had in San Diego! Located close to Mt. Soledad, their food always hits the spot! Mango sticky rice is a nice end to the tasty food journey.

Gotta go!

By DonLynski |

We were visiting SD and staying in La Jolla, went one evening without a reservation. The restaurant is up in the hills and is in a very small inconspicuous area (use a GPS) and is a little tricky to find, but when you do you will understand just how good this restaurant is. The Drunkin Noodles were amazing and the curried fish was as good as it gets!! We had our dinner " family style" so that we could share each dish.Service was friendly and attentive, and portions were larger than normal Thai servings. We took a Mango Sticky rice home for a later dessert....yummy! We were very satisfied and happy to have found this gem in the hills. Just go, you won't be sorry!!

Hidden Gem for Thai Food in La Jolla

By Globetrotter105 |

A great experience all around. Wonderful, fresh Thai food, served in a warm, family environment in a comfortable indoor or outdoor setting. A bit hard to find (although not so with a GPS or phone), but worth the trip up into the La Jolla Hills, for some of the best Thai food you'll find...Can recommend the Thai Seafood or Beef Rending, and a wonderful version of Green Papaya Salad. Food is authentically spicy (same as in Thailand), so be mindful of what spice level you enjoy and let the server know. Don't miss it!

Yum!

By donovantravelers |

This is a darling little restaurant off the beaten path! It was super clean, reasonable, and the service was very good. You can bring your own beer or wine too! We had the spicy eggplant, red curry and pad thai. Portions and food quality were excellent! Spice level was 1-10. They had a lot to choose from on the menu. We will be back again!

Wonderful tastes – falling down on the details

By TerribleIvan |

The food at Turmeric Thai tastes wonderful. Last night, I had Scallops in Green Curry, my wife ordered salmon, in the restaurant’s signature curry sauce, and her sister had a chicken stir-fry. All of the sauces were exotically delicious, but the devil is in the details. The scallop curry had precious little scallop in it. Pieces were cut to the size of a quarter, and perhaps added up to one good-sized scallop, if that much. Both the salmon and the chicken (breast) were somewhat overcooked and dry. The restaurant does not offer wine or beer. There’s a shop adjacent that sells both. But it closes at 8, which meant that, arriving at 8:15, we were out of luck. After a day of tennis and the beach, this was a disappointment. There is outdoor dining, but we were seated inside, in a room that was quite noisy till it emptied. It would not take much for Turmeric to be a top-of-the-line dining place. But they are not there yet.

Delicious food and nice atmosphere

Great new find in La Jolla

By Kathy S |

Great Thai Food. This place is hidden behing the small local deli which is already hidden from the public, unless you live in this neighborhood. It's not a big place, but the food is worth coming back for. Fresh and delicious. Their Tom Kha soup, a light coconut soup with mushrooms and other vegetables is delicious. I ordered the Basil Eggplant with Calamari and little oil in the stir fry. They accomadated my request happily and it tasted fantastic. My second and third experiences here were take out orders. I tried the Tom Kha soup with seafood this time and the seafood was perfectly cooked and delicious, and I also tried the Basil Eggplant with Shrimp. I'm hestitant to order shrimp lately because you never know where it's from and how fresh it is. I was happily surprised that the shrimp were large, fresh and tastey. This restaurant is a new family favorite. Just keep in mind that they are closed on Mondays.

Hidden Little Gem

By Lyn |

What a great find! We went with another couple on a Tues night. The food was surprisingly excellent. We ordered two appetizers and three mains and ate family style. Everything was very tasty especially the beef curry. Our waiter was engaging and attentive and the food came out quickly. Will definitely go back in the summer.

Great hidden Thai place

By gzau |

Turmeric is a well hidden Thai restaurant. It is located in the shopping mall at they entrance to the Windermere complex. The food is very good and service is good too. This is my new go to Thai place.

Well worth the drive / search to find this hidden gem

By PhiloFarnsworth |

I had the tom yum soup and a chili basil squid dish. Excellent, and spice level 10 was very legit. So much better than anything I have found on the east coast. Be sure to bring your own beer and wine!!!!

Pretty Good

By Karen S |

The food was delicious. My only. problem was they ask for the degree of hotness 1-10. I said 5 and for me it was too hot and therefore you lost the taste of their delicious food. If you are not use to real heat try 3. My companion said 8 and thought it wasn't spicy enough. Palate makes a difference. Howevet, the food is clean and fresh. Spring rolls were fantastic.

Word of Mouth Gets You Here

By World Traveler Reviews |

My husband's mom told us about this place. She is the Queen of the Foodies so when we were in the area, we traveled up the mountain and found Turmeric Thai tucked into an itsy-bitsy mall. In all the years I've lived in San Diego I had never been to that neighborhood. We all ordered from the "Lunch Specials" menu. After the first bite, we only wished the place was closer to where we live. I had the Eggplant dish with brown rice; my companions had Chicken Pad Thai and a spicy Noodle dish. Instead of soup OR salad as a side dish, Turmeric gives you both a soup AND a salad. Everyone was very pleased. I love eggplant, and the portion was just right. It looks like the restaurant has plans for expansion which is a good idea because once word of mouth gets around, there will be no stopping the hungry fans. Aroy mach mach!! (Very Delicious)

By Agandcg |

My wife and I lived in Thailand and we know good Thai food when we see it! This place is one of the best! We ordered the papaya salad and Tom kha soup, Drunken noodles and green curry and every single dish was out of this world! It is also very clean and the service was great. I could eat at this place every day.

Great outdoor space - excellent food.

By doctor206 |

We love Thai food and as this was nearby we took the winding hill up to the restaurant. Not so easy to find, but with the help of the adjacent private community guard we got there! Spicy Basil (4/10 spice level) - excellent, Tom Kha - big chunks of fresh veg, Pineapple Rice - tasty but no spice, Yellow Curry (3/10 spice level) - lots of flavors. Two indoor areas and a lovely outdoor patio. BYOB - wine/ beer store next to it but possible closes at 7pm, check before you go. Definitely a place to go back to next time we are in La Jolla.

Delicious Thai food, take out was great

By Buffalogirl41 |

Delicious, affordable, interesting decorations! We really enjoyed the food, the Tom yum soup was spicy and delicious!

Turmeric

Don't let the small shopping center location scare you off, Turmeric has terrific, fresh Thai dishes. My lunch group has recently added it to our preferred locations.

A Hidden Gem

Delicious thai food tucked away in a very small strip center at entrance of a gated community. Friendly and courteous staff. All food was freshly prepared. Will definitely go again when in the area.

Best Thai food

By Amrita R |

I'm a vegetarian and I have not as many choices when I go to restaurants. This place had a lot of veg options and I'm glad I visited this place on my San Diego trip. The ambience is cozy and warm. The food is prepared based on your spicy levels and other preferences. The soup tasted heavenly and the curries were no exception. Highly recommended.

Awesome thai food experience

By mcs_ashish |

Visited place on a weekday, and found to be quite quiet. :) The place is simple but has quite good options. liked Thai tea, and one of lot of options from veg. noodles. Not even a single person in group complained about food. The is really kind of hidden gem.. :) After Spices Thai cafe this is only other place where I like and enjoyed thai food. Both restaurants has quite good difference in taste and gives you different compisition possibility of food.

An outstanding Thai restaurant.

By Alan G |

A great little find in La Jolla, this restaurant has exceptionally fresh, well prepared food with indoor/outdoor dining. The staff is very courteous and friendly and I will put this restaurant on my "FAVORITE" list.

Consistently delicious

By ltakarich |

We frequently eat at this local Thai restaurant. I love the Thai fried rice, my husband loves the turmeric seafood entree and my kids love both pad Thai noodles and drunken noodles. Service is good and carry out is convenient too. You can bring your own wine for a small corkage fee. The spring salad is also a family favorite.

Thai in a strip mall.. Yes please!!

By shmishig |

Preface : I'm VERY picky when it comes to Thai food. My friend and I were on vacation and this restaurant had really good reviews and boasted my favorite thing... a gem in an unsuspecting place... we had to try it. It was definitely in a random place - we followed GPS and I thought it was wrong because it literally was taking us into a gated community until the last minute when we were directed to turn into a small strip mall.. so random. What a cute setting! We sat outside and while it was a little chilly (a full day in the sun can do that to you) we were warmed up by their soups. We each had a curry dish which is comparable to my favorite place back home. Their spice level is 1-10. I asked for a 4 since I wasn't sure what to expect.. I ended up adding a lot of spice so if you like spicy do not hesitate to order up. The Beef Panang was the best I've ever tried.
