good food and atmosphere

By leslievansant |

I ate here with friends the other night. Wow, the beet salad with goat cheese is one of the best salads I've had all year. On the recommendation of our waiter, I went with "The Daily Show" option which was short ribs. I tipped well, they were excellent. We had reservations at 7:30, the place was packed when we came in. We sat down closer to 8 and it seemed to be empty, but then, went completely full again. It's got a great vibe and feels like many people from the neighborhood enjoy it. If I lived in that part of Philly, I would make it my local.

The best oyster in philly so far

By Venpenpen |

We ordered the raw oyster and the shrimp with spicy. They both perfecto. Never ever eat such a delicious fresh oyster like this. The shrimp is full of taste. Great place to have a romantic dinner or even hang out in the bar.

Delicious; great location!

We were in town for an overnight and wanted a delicious dinner in a lovely, but low-key restaurant. Twenty Manning fit the bill exactly! Our dinners were delicious and the service was just right. If I lived in Philadelphia, this could become one of my favorite restaurants!

A Ho- Hum Dining experience

By tikvah48 |

We had not had dinner in Philadelphia for many years but were invited by friends to join them. If this is indicative of the new Philly dining scene, I was very unimpressed. I ordered the special of the day- Fish and chips. The fish was crisp but spicy and greasy. The fries were tasty but sparse for a $20 entree. My wife had the pizza and was also duly unimpressed. The service was mediocre at best. The restroom was not clean and only one was functioning the night we were there. The tables were sticky. I guess the one novelty was the rolls, served in a paper bag. I doubt that we will not be returning to this restaurant but apparently Twenty Manning Grill has a loyal following of Rittenhouse Square locals.

Excellent

By Benjamin F |

I was invited to dinner at Twenty Manning by a business associate. The worst part about this establishment is trying to decide which meal to order. I ordered the rosemary chicken skillet with a side of phyllo shrimp, which was excellent. I also tried the calamari which an associate ordered. It was prepared perfectly, not rubbery like other restaurants. Then there was the dessert. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

So disappointed.

By Star |

So it's been 4 years since we are here and we are here a lot ... So excited to come back to a massive let down on all levels. I would have given it a one but for the amazing meals we have had here before ... Perhaps because it was Sunday night and the restaurant was pretty much empty the ambience was non existent. I ordered modules frites they were cold and gritty I ate three .. Didn't complain because we were with friends but the service was lack lustre and the most annoying thing was it was actually freezing .. Yes warm outside but icy inside .. The reason we left was we were all so cold we couldn't speak .. No check back on the meal no friendly goodbye but it will be for me as Philadelphia has so much more to offer eating out 🙃

Interesting food, great neighbourhood

By Toronto123K |

Incredibly interesting food and drinks at 20 manning grill. Started with the calamari, one of the best I have had. Interesting flavours, dip was great, and just the right crunch. Maryland crab and avocado was light and refreshing on a warm summer evening. Oysters...beginner oysters, but good nonetheless, and you don't see 6 for $12 anymore. Mains...Mushroom ravoli, savoury and flavourful... a must.. more like a perogy. Three big raviolis, fried, with a hint of truffle. Not overpowering at all. Scallops were wonderful. A mix of flavours, nothing that overwhelmed the delicate scallops. The berkshire porkchop was a the only so so main. A little dry and overcooked, with too much honeyed figs, which was more of a jam. which actually drowned the gorgonzola. Different cocktails, and an old fashioned with a spicy kick well worth having.

Home away

The atmosphere at Manning is a replica of eating at home. Mathew, the manager, greets you and knows your first name. The Bar tenders , Jo , Amen, Peter, are all superb. Food is yummy both in the eve and weekend brunch. When the weather is nice we all eat outside. SO much fun!!

But close to five stars

By jxx9595 |

We ended up here mostly by accident and got a table inside on a busy Friday night. It was so incredibly noisy that you couldn't be heard across the table if you shouted. Our waitress offered us a table outside, and that solved the noise problem. I'm not a fan of outdoor eating, but it was warm enough to work, and the street traffic and pedestrians kept us amused. The food was excellent all around. Appetizers came gluten free as requested, and main dishes (pork chop, duck confit, and more) were great. We didn't try desserts. Our server was excellent, but the pacing was a bit slow, and that is our only complaint other than the noise. We would love to eat here again on another visit and see if a dessert or other dish would push it over the top. Eating outside won't last much longer so come for the food and not for conversation.

Good food but noisy

By Elliot S |

Located in an old building, the venue is quite nice with vintage tin ceilings and wood floors. The food was fine. I had the salmon and my wife had the ravioli, both of which we enjoyed. Unfortunately, the bar and restaurant are located in the same room and the noise level is high. It was difficult to carry on a conversation. If you're there for the bar scene it's probably fine, but it is not the place for a calm, quiet dinner with your significant other.

Pretty good, but very noisy...

By Geoff and Jenni G |

If you like noisy places with a lot of atmosphere - this is the place for you! The food is interesting, well presented and very good. Cocktails are excellent... We've been a few times and noticed this time a few more children around, which isn't great... but hopefully that was a one off. We definitely would recommend and return...

Average food, good service but the noise level is much too high

By Waynegourmet |

My escargot had a brown sweet sauce that hid their flavor. The hanger steak was good as were the shoestring french fries. However, the noise level was so high we could not hear each other. My ears hurt for one hour after I left the restaurant.

VERY GOOD DINNER

By Giacomo C |

We didn't know this restaurant, but we went with some friends that did, and they booked for all of us. We had a very nice dinner, the menu offered meat and fish, veggies were really fresh and everything we had was delicious. The service was also very good, they were also really helpful with some food allergies. I surely recommend it!

Eclectic Menu With Some Oriental Twists

By Boris Padams |

Twenty Manning is a smaller restaurant and bar with I would think a local focus. Menu is large and unique with moderate prices. Seafood seemed to be a keen focus when we we there on a Friday evening which features a fish special (this night whole Branzino. I tried the sesame crusted Tuna but found the Wasabi salad dressing a bit overwhelming. My wife's roast chicken was simple, good but relatively ordinary. Steaks which a couple people ordered at our table were OK but not Prime. Pasta was described as good but not outstanding. The decor of the restaurant was a bit tired and the airconditioning was dripping with the humidity. Overall, if you are local want fresh food at moderate prices cooked to order Twenty Manning is worth the try.

I like the asian flare ambience and they have a wonderful wine selection with a bartender that is knowledgeable.

Interesting in this Case is the Same Thing as Good

By Jenn_in_Belgium |

My husband and I always joke that interesting is not the same thing as good but, in the case of the menu at Twenty Manning, it was. The menu has a wide range of cuisine types and the ones we had were all good. We started with the gyoza which were excellent! My husband had the Beef with Noodles and I had the Market Salad. The noodle dish was delicious and an authentic presentation. The waitress thought to make sure we knew what to expect so that he wouldn't risk disappointment. The vegetables in the salad were fresh and flavorful. The dressing was light and refreshing. Can't wait to go back!

Great place

By momma3foodie |

Great wine list, I ate the porterhouse and it was delicious. Calamari also excellent. I wd pass on oysters . Our server was very attentive and we had a blast. You should definitely go .

Loved it - my favorite Phiily restaurant

By pamkat40 |

This adorable little restaurant was a real treat. Our hotel made reservations and despite being a Friday night, we were seated in a nice booth as soon as we arrived. The service was friendly and prompt. We didn't feel shamed for not ordering drinks or entrees - Chop Chop salad was delish. Other appetizers were as well. If I lived in Philly,, I definitely go back and take my husband.

The crab cake has no crab in it

By Jimhere |

I'm surprised to see that people liked the crab cake. Four of us ordered it and none of us had crab in ours (or it was so little that it couldn't be identified). It tasted ok, but as someone who is used to real lump crab cakes in the Baltimore area, this was a HUGE disappointment. We mentioned this to the server, but got no further response from the management. If you want a real crab cake, go somewhere else. However, they have a nice cheese plate.

My second home

By rita w |

Twenty Manning is a second home to locals who live in the Rittenhouse area! The bar tenders , Amanda , Joe, Cary, Resa, and Mathew are exceptional! They know their customers but SO willing to serve new customers. The menu is comfort food and the environment is relaxed. Now that the weather is better, we sit at the outside bench and enjoy our home!

Great Pork Chop

By Bill W |

The pork chop makes this worth the trip....nice size with figs, gargonzola and brusselsprouts....friendly service....interesting cocktails....seared tuna and fish tacos also worth a look....chicken breast nice size but dry....burger barely average....you gotta try the pork chop, which I ordered medium rare...

Good drinks, plenty of seating

By James H |

We met a group of friends here for drinks after their rehearsal dinner. The kitchen was closed by the time we strolled in so cant comment on the food. Our bartender was quick to make drinks and always made sure there were never empty glasses. Very low key place and it wasnt overly crowded considering there was an Eagles game on the same night. Decent variety of wines and draft beers available. Not an abundant amount of liquors to choose from but that didn’t deter our experience. Would go here again.

Great food!

By travelernyc2012 |

Pretty space, varied menu and knowledgeable servers made for a great meal. We took our server's recommendations and he steered us right! Drinks also delicious and he gave us a recommendation as to where to go after dinner.

Delicious!

By lchorba |

We went there for a "date night" a couple of weeks ago. Made reservations through OpenTable. That was my only complaint. The guy who called from the restaurant to confirm my reservation was very rude! He barely let me say 2 words and then hung up on me. I was nervous about going there after that. Didn't need to be though. The food and service was fantastic. It is not a huge place and pretty loud but that doesn't bother us. I had crispy duck that was fantastic (though on a bit too much spinach salad for my liking). My Husband had the short ribs which I tasted and they were fantastic too. Would definitely go again.

Food was ok, the restaurant

By Teresa |

Food was ok, the restaurant decor adorable and the staff was really great. I would come back. The bar looked like it probably was fun to hang out at. The wedge salad and vegetable gnocchi were our favorite dishes. It’s a cute place.

We came here on a Saturday evening for dinner based on Trip Advisor reviews. For apps we had the mussels which were very good and the escargot which was delicious. Both broths were extraordinary - good for bread dipping. Speaking of the bread, the bread brought to the table upon arrival could have broken a tooth, it was so hard. My husband had the pork chop which was overlooked and overly sweet. Too bad as it could have been great. I had the Kenneth Square mushroom ravioli which were good but lacking the sage butter sauce. The accompanying slivered veggies were quite good however. The beery cobbler was absolutely delicious. Our server, Siobhan was nice, but the place had way too many personnel walking by.

A Great Place To Clebrate An Anniversary!

By BobWestOfPhilly |

My lovely wife of 22 years and I spent the night down in Philly celebrating our anniversary as well as her belated birthday night out celebration. Twenty Manning reserved us a lovely table out of the way of the hustle and bustle - and there was plenty of that!. This was a happening place on a Saturday evening, and while some reviewers found that to be a turn off we enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere. We started with a fruity and cheese sampler that impressed because the fruit was ripe - not just bought that day and still waiting to ripen like a lot of places do. I had a fantastic pork chop (must have been an inch and a quarter thick) while my wife had the braised short ribs (boneless it turned out). Both were excellent. And these were not meager portions - they were meant to satisfy. Prices were what you'd expect for a downtown restaurant off of Rittenhouse Square - even a tad lower. Great food for a great price! Where Twenty Manning really shined was the fact that while we did not end up having a dessert because we were just too darned full from the appetizer and entree, we learned they were going to provide her dessert gratis, but since we didn't get dessert they took the price of the fruit and cheese plate off. Nice! We don't get down to Philly that often, but I assure you that we would go back again and would recommend it to our friends, too.

Reconnecting

By gondekp |

Went for the first time in years while in town on business. I have family that lives in philly so went here for dinner one night. It was a Monday so decent availability and still about 50-70% full at 8:30pm. Found out from the front of the house that there is new ownership as of a week or so ago. Expect gradual menu changes but nothing drastic or quick. I started with the formula 46 cocktail. I liked the drink but not the cherries it came with which were on the sour side. Give me luxardos everyday and twice on Sunday. You get a hot crusty role per person in a brown bag and soft butter. I started with the tuna crudo which was a special. Not the tuna sashimi which is on the menu. Very possible the crudo is added to the menu and sashimi removed. My old reliable entree is the pork chop. Came with Gorgonzola sauce, figs, and Brussel sprouts. The blue cheese, figs, and pork and a great bite all together. I thought the pork chop itself was a little over cooked. I finished with the half baked cookie. It comes with a larger scoop of ice cream which was a bit much, I would have been fine with just the cookie. Even though it wasn’t full, it is a loud environment. I’d go back the next time I’m in town. Make reservations as it’s popular.

Trendy, Crowded, Happening Spot

By panamama |

This restaurants was hopping on a Saturday night. Every table was taken and the bar was hopping. They were still seating new tables when we left at 9:30. The beat salad was a nice opener, as was the cheese plate. The infused honey was a nice addition, but it was too runny so that eating it and not making a mess of yourself was impossible. The bison burger was rich and delicious and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The brussel sprouts were just right. The salmon was plated beautifully. The signature molten cookie dessert topped with vanilla ice cream is a must.

Three cheers for Audrey!

Excellent regular fare. No surprises. Consistently good. A true neighborhood favorite. Nicest most friendly chef and atmosphere.

Pleasant restaurant/ bar in the Rittenhouse neighborhood

By charmking |

This is a good restaurant with a lively bar near the Rittenhouse Square area. I tried the ribs and my wife the baked scallops. My ribs were tender but the spicy heat level in the BBQ sauce overwhelmed my taste buds and by the second rib I wanted to stop. My wife said her scallops were good and I must say had a good presentation. The service was great with good attention to us.

Very Disappointed

By Beth S |

I attempted to make a reservation for a group of 9 for my son's graduation from Drexel University. I was told because we were a group of 8 or more, we had to do the group dining, where we would be offered a limited tasting menu. We could choose between the 35.00 per person menu or the 45.00 per person menu, which would not include the 20% gratuity or beverages. I told the person I spoke with on the phone that the 9 of us would be coming from out of town and there were varying ages. The menu selection was appealing & it did receive good reviews. The location was good, as our hotel would be close by. The person I did speak with put me on hold twice to speak with a manager. This manager would not deviate from this group dining. I was very disappointed with the customer service. I know there are many other restaurants to choose from in Philadelphia, and we will certainly have my son's graduation dinner at a restaurant where we can be accommodated. Twenty Manning may have good food, but part of the experience is quality customer service from the start! We will take our business elsewhere.

Amazing food, great service, awesome atmosphere! As someone who has to eat gluten free I am always worried about options that may not be available. They were great at accommodating my food allergy and even had gluten free beer! We loved our time at Twenty Manning!

Really Good Food, Really Noisy Place

By Hootersville |

I went with a large group of people (25) and we were given a prix fix menu with a number of really nice selections. I chose the Pork Potstickers appetizers which were really quite delicious. It was followed by the CHARBROILED BEEF SIRLOIN NOODLES which were absolutely wonderful. It was beautifully seasoned, fresh, and generally speaking, a wonderful combination of veggies, rice noodles and seared beef. Yum. People next to me had the salmon filet which was gorgeous thick piece of salmon sitting on a beautifully colorful bed of vegetables. Needless to say, all plates were cleaned. Dessert was a sampler which included a little piece of cheesecake, dark chocolate mousse torte and cinnamon apple cake on a plate suitably drizzled in caramel (which goes with each one). Each sample was incredibly delicious. Our meal orchestrator who made the reservations had spoken with the manager earlier in the day who indicated that if we paid cash, they could manage to give us separate checks. The message obviously never got down the food chain to the waiter. But after only a millennium or two wait, he eventually figured it all out. The only thing that made this less than a fabulous dining experience was the noise. It was sort of like "fine dining in the subway station." I really don't understand the mentality of making a really excellent restaurant where the only thing higher than the prices are the decibel levels. Really, guys, why don't you bring in an acoustical engineer to help you fix this situation. Do not go with the idea of being able to hear anyone, but go nonetheless for the great food.

our server was not on her game

By ReGina G |

Like the atmosphere. We waited 10 minutes to see our server. Luckily someone else saw us looking frustrated and brought water and drinks. Our server seemed to disappear quite often, and we never saw her out with other diners. From the reviews we expected the food to be much better. Caprese had 4 huge pieces of wedged tomato on the cheese with next to no dressing. My pancake of a butternut ravioli seemed to have been fried and was dry and hard with the filling being dried up. Someone ordered the beef sirloin noodles-was the best part of the menu at our table. We decided to have dessert and coffee elsewhere.

Very good not outstanding

By ToYourHealth |

Dined here 8/23/2014. Had calamari and pot stickers apps- both very good. My wife and daughter ordered the scallops which were slightly overcooked. My steak frites was excellent- extremely tender NY strip was cooked to a perfect medium. Service was a little spotty. Apps brought to table, had to ask server to bring plates for sharing. Overall a good meal but nothing outstanding nor memorable.

Great neighborhood spot

By Cliff H |

My wife and I were having a lazy Saturday afternoon and decided to take an early reservation here. It was our 2nd time eating here and the meal again was very tasty. The decor and ambiance are great for a night out with your significant other and the food portions are huge. We started with the chop chop salad which was fresh and lightly dressed along with 1/2 dozen oysters which were rich and fresh. My wife and I both had the steak frites which were both cooked well and came with a mountain of shoestring fries. Service was adequate and not intrusive. My only gripe is that the tap water that they use is somewhat chlorinated. Overall, it's a solid place to have a good meal.

Very Average Restaurant

By snighty |

We reserved this restaurant weeks in advance and they failed to tell us that is was "Restaurant Week" in Philly. The menu was a limited prix fixe $35.00 for a 3 course meal, service was rushed and food was lousy. They basically threw our appetizers at us as well as our desserts....everything felt premade. My husband's calamari salad tasted as if the calamari was sitting around from the morning....cold and greasy. The gazpacho soup had a scoop of pineapple sorbet in it.....TERRIBLE!!! Not one of us at the table (and there were 4) said that anything was good! For a restaurant that is highly regarded and recommended by many, this dinner was a huge disappointment. There are so many other great choices in Philly and we wasted our only evening at this establishment.

Fun to sit outside

I really enjoyed sitting outside and watching the action on a pretty evening. The food was good, not great. But the service was quite good.

Tough Pork and Smelly Tuna

By Yenssy C |

Sorry to say but this meal was not great at all. Party of four, three ordered pork and one, me, ordered the ravioli. Let's start w the apps- best part were the beets while the tuna smelled like marijuana (waiter explained it was the tea leaves upon which the tuna is laid on?)- not so much. Distinct smell of marijuana. Crab cake was good according to husband but the pork... all three plates looked dry and tough. I tasted some and it was extremely rough to cut and tasted very dry but the sauce (apple and cinnamon taste) was great but please pay closer attention to cooking preparations. Finally the ravioli was the absolute worst- extremely oily. I couldn't even eat it. I felt like dabbing it with a napkin as I would a greasy pizza. Three came in a serving I ate one and a half. Sorry but I will not be returning here.

Still great food, but terrible acoustics...

By Geoff and Jenni G |

We have eaten here several times over the years and really like the cocktails and the food. The acoustics really are quite horrendous, so if you don't like noise, skip it... otherwise though, it does make for a relatively good atmosphere, provided you can hear yourself speak! ;-) Great veggie options too - the veggie curry is particularly good :-)

Crab Cake

By Natureholic |

They perhaps serve the best crab cake in the downtown. I had an unplanned dinner there with a buddy. It’s bit expensive but the service totally worth the visit. Nice and friendly service. Good place to hang out with friends.

Quality dining equal to any great restaurant in New York.

By George K |

This is an absolutely wonderful restaurant that you should put at the top of your list if you're planning a trip to Philly. Wonderful atmosphere, terrific service, great food. Can't say enough about how enjoyable it is.

Great after dinner drink

By David G |

Under the same ownership as Audrey Claire, and the service reflects that. The staff is courteous and knowledgeable about their product. The cocktail menu is creative and exciting, while the wine list provides something for everyone. I find this to be a nice location for adults to enjoy a wonderful meal or enjoy a quiet drink. I especially appreciate that the staff never rushes people out the door and does not intrude on your time in the establishment.

Delicious, beautiful setting, and a little pricey.

By KRiSTeN R |

I went here with 3 old friends for a nice dinner and night out. We split the famer's market beets for starters and they were delicious. They were fresh and perfect, and the goat cheese with balsamic was the perfect pairing. FARMERS MARKET BEETS 11 organic baby red & yellow beets, local goat cheese, lavender honey, aged balsamic We also got the spicy calamari and I missed the "spicy" note and ate one of the hot peppers by accident. I don't like heat, but I found myself going back for more with this dish. It was pretty good. SPICY CALAMARI 9 fried spinach, cherry peppers, spicy tartar make it a salad with basil, bean sprouts, napa cabbage, romaine, carrot, papaya, garlic-lime vinaigrette (add $2) For my main course I got the pork chop. It came with yummy figs and gorgonzola and brussel sprouts. My biggest issue was that the brussels were NOT COOKED enough. It was too bad, because they were really hard to get through. I had a friend try them to see if i was too critical, but when the fork had trouble getting through them, we all decided that yes, they could have used more cooking. Other than that, everything was very good! GRILLED PRIME BERKSHIRE PORK CHOP 24 maple brined bone-in chop, honey mission figs, melted gorgonzola, seared brussels sprouts

Great Rittenhouse Square restaurant

By Skylane_Dave |

If you don't mind noise, this is a nice little restaurant in Rittenhouse Square. Seems to be a local favorite. Even on a Wednesday night, it was packed. The shrimp cocktail was a great value; JUMBO shrimp. The beef and noodles were amazing and I loved the half-baked Toll House cookie and ice cream dessert. Service was great, also! When our waitress would get busy with another table, another waitress would come over and check on us. We'll definitely be back!

Very noisy, salty

By poodledoop |

Salmon, chicken, sirloin noodles, ravioli, mashed all very salty. Would have been 4 star otherwise. Dark enough that even those of us with middle aged but otherwise healthy eyes had trouble with the smaller print on the menu.

Creative Cuisine Artfully Prepared

By sammy1328 |

Went there for dinner on a Friday evening with three friends. Three of the four of us were very happy with our choices. I had the Charbroiled Beef Sirloin Noodles, which I thought was excellent, very flavorful and filling. The friend who had the beautifully presented Pan Seared Scallops cleaned her plate. The third friend who really liked her meal had the Flash seared tuna. The friend who was less satisfied with her meal had the fish tacos. In defense of the dish, however, our friend's complaint was with the tortilla; I think she was expecting a hard shell tortilla (like in beef tacos) and so was disappointed in the soft corn taco. If you love soft corn tortillas, as I do, you would like the dish. Attractive and pleasant ambiance and good service.

Great food and great service

By Evan G |

It was snowing and we didn't want to go to far from the hotel and we found this place on open table. The staff was very friendly, the service was good. The menu had a nice mix of choices that worked out well for the vegetarians and the meat eaters. The cocktail menu had some unusual choices and we all tried something new and all enjoyed what we had. Overall a great dinner.

Better than being home

By rita w |

Twenty Manning is home for many center city residents. The food is delicious and healthy However, the bar is my favorite .EVERY bar tender at Manning is at your service but Amanda is my favorite! They get to know their customers by their first name and know what they like to drink. They treat their customers with respect and love . Jill and Risa become part of your family They greet you when you bring guests and are at your service. Chef makes sure the food is fresh and menus change according to weather. Best part of Twenty Manning is the bench outside!!!Come see for yourself!

A good find!

By The_Twit |

Glad I'd just read about this place before a last-minute visit to Philly. While the place is smallish and loud, the food was incredible. It was hard to choose an entree, with all of the delicious options. I went with the Kennett Square Mushroom Ravioli as a shout-out to my current hometown. Funny thing is I'm not even a mushroom lover, but I couldn't resist the brown butter, 3 cheeses, and caramelized onions! Heavenly. (Did I just call a mushroom dish "heavenly"?!) My dinner mates enjoyed the scallops and steak frites. I want to go back and try those other menu options!

Good food...poor service.

By davidwomalley |

The food was very good...burger was rather succulent, chicken very well done and fries crunchy...also, look forward to some really good bread, they make some of the best bread I have tried in the city. In addition, the apricot beer was simply amazing. Their service did not match the food quality...We came in after they hosted a large party and the servers were quite tired...you would think they would had brought new ones in in preparation for evening dinner service. We essentially felt ignored for a while...even after we told one of them we were ready to order. However, once we got our food, they paid more attention to us. Come for the good food and drink, but dont expect much from the servers.

Nice neighborhood restaurant but waiter disappoints.

By TravlelingFlash |

Nice neighborhood restaurant -- we used to eat here all the time. Then it got SOOOO noisy we gave up. It's still noisy, but opens at 5 PM, which was what we needed. Unfortunately, it was an annoying experience. We sat and chatted over our drinks and were visited several times by our waiter, looking to take an order. So imagine our surprise when we tried to order THREE different things from the menu -- all of which they were "out of". And these weren't esoteric things (crab cakes???) So come dessert, we asked for a menu, placed an order with the same waiter and were told "Oh sorry, we're out of that". Why did he feel the need to keep frustrating our order process. Good food, bad service. So we won't go back again anytime soon.

Very Nice, but...

By mawelch |

Went to Twenty Manning this past friday night with my husband and daughter. Our first visit but our daughter has been many times as it is a neighborhood restaurant for her. We had a reservation and it was a good thing we did. We arrived at 7:00 and there were at least 6 tables with "reserved" signs on them and we sat down and the restaurant just filled up, and people who did not want to wait were leaving, a steady flow of customers. We have eaten at the Sister restaurant down the block (Audrey Clair, byob) and enjoyed the food there so we expected the same. First we ordered drinks and the mixed drink my husband and I ordered ( made with Crown Royal) was awful, had to send it back. I was not about to drink a cocktail made with Crown Royal that tasted horrible. That seemed odd to me in this type of upscale restaurant in a upscale neighboorhood. The second time was better, but not the best. We then ordered our meal. We shared the crispy Calamari and it was good, spicy and addicting, but (here is one of a few but's) very salty. My daughter and I shared the Roasted Tomato soup, that was delicious and not over salted. For main dishes, I had the Pan Fried Butternut Squash Ravioli with Burnt Sage Butter ($16.00) for 3 Ravioli's with 2 burnt sage leaves, but absolutely no sauce, and when I asked about sauce, it just does not have a sauce. Don't get me wrong they were large, 3" and delicious but no sauce and only 3? No sauce? My husband had the Chopped Salad, he din't say anything about it. My daughter had the Farm Roasted Chicken, it came with mashed potatoes and peas. The split chicken was small but the skin crispy and the chicken moist and delicious. The peas were so salty, I could not eat them. We did get a bottle of red wine, it was the cheapest on the menu, $33.00. It was good. For desert we shared the Half Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie, it came in a tiny quiche style dish and it was like a gooey warm Toll House Cookie, half baked. Could not go wrong with that! The 3 Cocktails, 1 soup, 1 app, 1 salad, 2 main dishes, 1 bottle of wine and 1 (tiny) desert total was $165.00. It was good but I think I would go to the sister restaurant Audrey Claire before I would return to Twenty Manning. Food was better and not so salty, and you can't beat BYOB. I did read some other reviews this week and noticed more than once reviewers commenting about to much salt. The next day my fingers were so swolen I could not get my rings off. If you do go, just ask to have the chef let you salt at the table! Like I said it was very good, but I can think of many other restaurants in the area that I like better.

Great restaurant, fantastic atmosphere

By trentmum63 |

We recently had an evening at 20 Manning during a visit to Philly. We were very impressed with the food we had. The staff were attentive and helpful and the food was suitable for all members of our party. It had a nice atmosphere, and as we visited during a heatwave, it was nice to see the mist being sprayed through their awnings onto their outside diners. Very welcome as it was in the high 90's. We would definitely return.

Even though it was a very hot summer evening, we snagged an outside table as the awnings were dispersing cool mist. A great place to people watch. Not really sure what's up with selling a "good pickle" for .50 on the menu. Had the spicy calamari and pizza (love fresh basil). People around us were having burgers and seem just as happy.I would suspect that the entrees are good but didn't want to eat more.

A bit away from the madding crowd around Rittenhouse Square - but lively and great tastes

By Marshall B |

All the restaurants in the immediate Rittenhouse Square area on a nice Saturday night were over-packed and lots of traffic going up and down, so we hunted for a place that would offer outdoor seating plus good food, and found - fortunately - Twenty Manning. Very good service, very attentive and responsive, and interesting menu offerings - we had fish tacos, sirloin noodles, and escargot, with a Founders All Day IPA and Dock Street Summer in Berlin. The only mildly disappointing dish was the escargot, but the presentation and flavor were creative, and the description of the dish in the menu was accurate - we had expected something more classical and had not examined the menu carefully enough - all the ingredients are well explained. There seems to be a bit of Asian spice in each dish - especially the sirloin noodles - and it really makes a huge difference in what otherwise could be a routine dish. Outdoor seating was enjoyable - not too much traffic on South 20th, and we were seated along the one-way side street, with only three cars passing by over the course of about 90 minutes. Even though the weather was pleasant, a table outdoors was readily available, within minutes; most people seem to prefer the bar and dining area indoors, which was quite lively on a Saturday evening.

What a delicious evening!

By Tina Rappaport |

My goodness, what a foodie restaurant in such a great foodie town! The salmon could not have been more delicious, and the beef sirloin noodles was great too and a nice change. The drinks were really well made well (and strong). Great atmosphere...everyone at the table (8) was saying how good their food was.

Food was Delicious

By Debbie A |

This is a nice small restaurant near Rittenhouse Square. Pretty inside and food was very good. Biggest complaint was how loud it was. Even though we had a corner table by the windows, it was still very hard to hear our friends and the waiter. The short ribs were great with mashed potatoes and the pork chop was also a great choice. Tender and very buttery tasting. I'd go back, but only when it wouldn't be so crowded.

Deliciouss and Phenomenal Service

By Mindy D |

We had a work dinner last night at Twenty Manning and it was fantastic! I realize service has been tough lately...but I can say that this staff was amazing. Best service I've had in far too long. So attentive and great personalities. Warm and welcoming. And the food...OMG! So yummy. We ate family style and tried so many tasty dishes. Mmmmm. And did I mention the delicious herbaceous cocktails?

Catered to our group. Fun menu fun restaurant!

By Spirit7759 |

I had crab cakes and a beef noodle bowl. What a delicious dinner! Serving sizes were generous. Servers handled our large group of 25 people with ease. Would definitely eat there again!

Good food and nice location

By phdwhites |

I've been here with a friend for a dinner few days ago. I've been surprised by the quality of the food. I got the chicken breast and was really good, although portions are somehow small. The location is also nice. Prices are ok (Philly is a bit expensive indeed). We paid around 60$ for two main dishes, one fries and two beers + tips. Staff is kind and polite although a little bit insistent in keeping asking if everything is ok (I should say this is the case in most places in the U.S. however). I recommend the place if you visit downtown Philly. I guess I will come back next time I'll stop by.

Reliably Good

By George M |

Although this is not one of Philadelphia's greatest restaurants (of which there are many, many), it is very good ... and, no small feat, very consistent. We no longer live in Philadelphia, so our recent visit came after two years away. The menu had changed some, of course, but still featured many of the reliables--like the Chop Chop Salad, which is still as good as we remembered.

Great Pizza

With a "Super Bowl" Hangover off we went to Twenty Manning! Service and food was excellent The Chop Chop salad was a fresh and delicious, had the beef shank was fall ff the bone tender... outstanding!

Great dinner spot after a day at the Franklin Institute

By Paul D |

Just a 15 minute walk from the Franklin Institute. Family friendly with food choices for all ages/preferences. Accommodating of special diets (as most places claim to be these days). Very friendly staff. The kitchen knows what it's doing - the menu is not extensive, therefore the selections should be done well every time. All the dishes we had were excellent. Proper serving sizes for individuals and well presented. The atmosphere is a step above casual, but I didn't feel out of place in shorts.

Good....Nice atmosphere.

By TravelinManPA |

Checked it out first time about a week ago...during restaurant week. May not have been the best time to try it. Not a 'wow' but, good overall. Limited menu (during the restaurant week), decent service, and cool atmosphere. Would try it again.

Great place for my birthday

By Al W |

Friends took me here for my birthday. Food was great. Ambiance lovely. We had a great time. Great place to go

Great outdoor dining spot!

By mwagnerwoodshop |

Food was hit or miss. Apps were excellent (crab cakes, pot stickers, tuna). Main courses were avg, pork overcooked and chix was bland. Veg stir fry was spicy but delicious and veggies were fresh. Dessert was uninspired. Loved the outdoor atmosphere and service was excellent!

Neighborhood Comfort

By lr147281 |

A couple of blocks off Rittenhouse Square and you'll find this gem tucked away from all the hustle. A blend of neighborhood types and a few like me who seek out the best a city has to offer when traveling. Twenty Manning has a full bar with a good wine selection. The owners have done a great job of blending comfort food with a spark. Nothing we had was bland. Great flavors, lively bar!

Restaurant has nice seating that has privacy and space between tables. Menu was diverse but my salmon was dry and tasteless. Service was excellent. Maybe just a bad night?

Good food; high noise level

By Stacy B |

Had dinner over the weekend with another couple at Twenty Manning. The restaurant is very small and cozy. You weren't on top of another table but it did make for a high noise level. I definitely had to shout at my friends for them to hear me. We still had a good meal and can overlook the noise as this plagues many small restaurants. The scallop ceviche was small, but flavorful although I did not care for the corn chips that accompanied it. I had the tuna entree and it was cooked perfectly rare. My husband and our friend split the bison burger as an appetizer which they both loved. The duck confit entree was average. It really was just a piece of duck on a bed of greens so if you want a side, order that a la carte. We all had dessert and 3/4 were delicious: Apple cake, half baked cookie and the berry cobbler. The tiramisu was just alright. The drinks were well made and our service was excellent. There was a long time between the appetizers and the entrees overall but we didn't feel forgotten. I would go back to Twenty Manning again.

Wonderful night

By Christine M |

This was our first visit to 20 Manning and we really, really enjoyed it. It was a fun date night for my husband and I. We had a cozy corner seat We made a reservation on line for Friday night at 7:00. We walked in a little early and were seated immediately. The service we received was great throughout our visit. Our water glasses were filled immediately and refilled throughout the dinner. We ordered a couple of drinks from the bar, which were delivered quickly and were quite good. We enjoyed the tuna sashimi and pork dumplings as an appetizer. My husband ordered the rib eye and said it was perfectly cooked. I had a taste and it was indeed delicious. I ordered the lobster roll, which was very good. Both meals came with fries, which were quite good. For desert, we shared the half baked Toll House cookie and did not regret it one bit. We had great service -- felt well cared for, but weren't overly pestered. Just the right level of support. We will definitely go back.

A highlight of Philly weekend

Excellent food, service, ambience, location. Reasonable prices for Philly. Bottles of wine are half-off on Sunday evening! What else is there to say?

Business dinner

By seanmT4053GU |

Visited on a Wednesday night as a party of 8. It’s a small restaurant with high noise level as it was quite full. Service is mediocre and not very efficient, but not terrible either. It was restaurant week so menu was $35 pri fixe menu. Food portions were very good and so was the quality and taste. Good wine list as well.

Fabulous burger!

By 480Sue |

The food is very good - we all had burgers. I had the bacon cheddar and it was perfect. My friends had the bison burger and the veggie burger, we were all very happy. Great fries. It is a little loud for normal conversation, at least on a Friday night. Service was excellent. And oh the warm chocolate chip cookie with ice cream!

Great dining for the foodie

By Amy L |

Twenty Manning was great. If you are a foodie this is the place for you. The menu had really great, different fare and the dining area was bright and pleasant. You got a farm to table feel and the waitstaff was on the ball. We didn't experience the loud volume that others did, but I have noticed in the "newer" restaurants they don't take into account acoustics, so most restaurants with their high ceilings showing the plumbing pipes tend to be loud. Loud is the new normal unfortunately. Regardless, the food makes up for the noise.

What a find!

By Karol B |

I know this restaurant has been open for some time, but I just hadn't gotten to it until last week. What a find! Great service, great food, lovely decor. We dropped in midweek at 5:30 before an evening meeting. The short rib over mashed potatoes and bok choy was excellent!

POOR SERVICE - DONT BOTHER

By hawaiigirl68 |

WE HAD A 6:30 pm reservation. They sat us at a small table for two near the bar. After we sat down, no one came to bring us even water for at least 10 minutes. Yet a table for 4 was seated and the server was there immediately! We finally got water, but even though we were looking seriously at the wine list no one came to take our wine order, which would have been a bottle. After another five minutes, we got frustrated and left. We DID NOT cancel the reservation - we arrived on time but no one seemed to want to serve us. Believe me, there are better choices out there at similar prices - don't waste your time and money.

2nd time here

By mugzy |

I may be a little harsh with my overall score, but there were a couple of issues with my meal that I feel I need to dock some points. This was my 2nd time at 20 Manning and it's a good restaurant. I was there with a fairly large group, mixed with some kids, and the service was very good. Two issues: 1) I had the duck confit. I haven't eaten duck confit since I had it at Parc because it blew my mind and I was afraid to be let down. Here the duck confit was good, not awesome, but my issue is it was served over, what seemed to be, an entire bag of spinach, and really nothing else. I can eat some greens, but after a few mouthful of spinach leaves, it gets a bit old. No starch, no sauce.. just a big ol bowl of leaves. We had a couple of orders of fries for the kids on the table and they were really spicey. Seriously, I go to Han Dynasty, and these fries would rank a solid (6). When asked the server kind of dismissed saying sometimes the spicy calamari infuses the fry oil with spice. It would have been nice knowing that beforehand (considering it was known it was for little kids)... and if there was some way to get fries that are not spiced. So anyway, the cocktails were very good, the apps good, most seemed to enjoy their meals, but I was pretty disappointed in the above 2 issues.

Nice place to sit at the bar

By scubed0127 |

I wandered out with a bottle of wine on a Monday night. Headed to Audrey Claire, but they were full. Meritage was closed. The host at Audrey Claire suggested their "sister" restaurant Twenty Manning. I haven't loved it in the past, but what the heck. Sat at the bar (excellent basketball game was on). Found that they did have a corkage policy, so for $25 got to open my own bottle of Greenock Alices Shiraz instead of paying fairly stiff per glass prices for their wine. The food was surprisingly good and the atmosphere was great. Lots of local/regulars, friendly conversation and great service. I'll go back, especially when I'm on my own for the evening and want some pleasant company and good food

Tasty and Pleasant

By alwoh |

We visited on a Sunday evening in Feb. So while the restaurant was busy it was not packed. The duck pasta special was very aptly described by our waiter and delicious, as we're our salads. Good wine and beer selection. We were entertained by the patience with which a nearby waitress responded to a multitude of questions about the menu from one of her guests. This place could be noisy if packed. Nice bar area.

Neighborhood Delight

By Joseph W |

We traveled to Twenty Manning on a busy Friday night. We had a reservation and were seated right away. The restaurant is small with a loud bar scene. It was difficult to hear others in our party of 6. Service was brisk and our drink and "snack" orders were taken promptly. Appetizers were great: raw tuna, pot stickers, marinated olives and a cheese board were big hits. The dinners were Ok, but not great. A bone in roasted chicken dish was WAY overcooked. Overall, a good neighborhood place in a very good neighborhood.

Dinner was good service was pleasant slow

By See_it_to_believe_it |

The food was great... we all ordered something different my father had the gazpacho he said was was awesome I had the Maryland crab and avocado appetizer... sooooo good! My sister had the ceviche she said it was good... we also had the oysters which were fresh and the sauce that came with them was awesome. For dinner I had the steak Frits. My steak "medium" was cooked perfect. The portion was large. Enough to take home for seconds. My aunt ordered the same thing and her steak was cooked perfectly also. Everyone got something different from the chicken to the salmon to the daily special of the brisket sandwich. All the food was awesome. Service was a touch slow and they knew it they kept apologizing so maybe not the waiters fault but I wouldn't let this deter me from returning.

wonderful

Loved this restaurant, located right off Rittenhouse square.. each bite of everything we ordered was delicious, staff great, portions plentiful..

Better than average food

By 60745Mary |

This restaurant is loud! Our table was very small and very close to the next. Food was better than average but not special or spectacular. Scallops were a bit over marinated and then overcooked.

Great couples date

By Yorky M |

My boyfriend and I came here with his two friends, another couple. We did have to wait 30 minutes even though we did have a 9:30 p.m. reservation. Once we were seated, we ordered: Oysters by the half shell, Charcuterie, SEAFOOD BOUILLABAISSE, CHARBROILED BEEF SIRLOIN NOODLES, Short Ribs, and PAN ROASTED SCOTTISH SALMON. Everyone liked their dishes and we did continue to order more drinks as dinner progressed. The only issue we had was that our waitress was not very attentive. We did have another waiter help her out. I would come back again, if I'm in the area.

An excellent meal in a pleasant location

By Mike Swindley |

We visited on Memorial Day. The restaurant is located in a pleasant, interesting area and is comfortable. My wife, our friend and I all thought that the food was very good. I had oysters and the steak which was perfectly cooked and the best I have had for some time. The others had the crab and avocado and then one pork chop and the duck. My wife raved about the chop. The service was pleasant and we were not put under any pressure. All in all it was a very enjoyable end to the day We also love Philadelphia despite its association with a rebellion against the Crown which cannot be condoned!

Nice neighborhood place, but bring your earplugs

By love2trave09 |

Twenty Manning is in the Rittenhouse area of Phily, which is a great area to wander and stay. This smallish corner restaurant is a local favorite, and gets quite a lively bar crowd on the weekend, and I assume during the week as well. The floors and ceilings are hard surfaces, so the noise is a definite factor. The food was good, but not great. The calamari was spicy and crisp, but the margarita pizza was bland and soggy. Our friend was not impressed with his steak, which he said was a bit tough. The cheese plate had three cheeses. One was soft and creamy, the other two were hard and crumblier; they were not the best selection for getting things to stay on the spreader or the crackers. Our service was great, on the other hand. The server was helpful with suggestions, and efficient. I would certainly go back to twenty Manning, since it is such a neighborhood, upbeat place. It is a good place to meet friends and hang for dinner, just know that it has some limitations.

Delicious food and good atmosphere

By Stuart H |

Dined on a Wednesday evening and the place was packed, so would recommend booking beforehand. We had a very enjoyable meal and the service was spot on. Didn’t find it too expensive at all, particularly in comparison to other similar quality eateries in Rittenhouse Square. Highly recommend a visit.

Excellent food and environment

By steveandmary401 |

Spent four un-rushed hours having an excellent meal (tuna), great wine list and service. Window seats much preferably to two-place tables more in the middle of the room. Bustling bar and a "bistro" environment - still possible for a quiet conversation if near the windows.

Convivial & Casual

By pookala |

Twenty Manning has a charming ambience & lovely servers. And If you don’t mind noise, you’ll be fine sitting in their inside dining room. If you want a quieter and more relaxing drink and/or meal you should sit outside. The food is good but not oh my gosh wonderful. I’d recommend sticking to the small plates & snacks. We sampled the mixed olives, south philly wonton, chicken satay, fingerling potatoes and the Brussels sprouts to start. Out of our main courses the roast chicken was the winner. The spaghetti bolognese was a bit dry & the edamame mixed salad with tuna was coated with a very watery dressing. I would skip dessert as there wasn’t anything tasty enough to justify the calories. Very good French Presse coffee though. Prices are moderate.

Restaurant Week Visit

By Geoffrey S |

My wife and I went here during Philadelphia's Restaurant Week and really enjoyed our meal. In particular, we loved the tomato bisque and the pork chop with blue cheese. The atmosphere was high-energy, and seems to be a great environment for dinner with a group of friends. I'd definitely go back.

Cut Back on the Salt

By TheTraveler609 |

I dined at 20 Manning over the break. My girlfriend and I both got the fish special which I cannot honestly remember the exact type of fish. It was virtually inedible. It was just saturated with salt. I had to stop at a CVS pharmacy on the way home to get some Tums and Pepto. For a $150 meal (including wine) for two people, my expectations were not met.

Fab food & ambiance

By J91 |

This place is just off the beaten track off Rittenhouse square. I had been running past it and thought it looked nice. We arrived with no reservations but were welcomed and seated quickly. It has a great atmosphere with beautiful photographs of the local dogs on the walls (it's that kind of nice neighbourhood, reminded me of south Ken or Chelsea in London). The service was superb and the food was great. As most readers will know I am the worlds fussiest vegetarian but do eat a little white fish (selectively). They had great salad and veggie options (yippee) and I had the fish taco, hubbie had the traditional burger, both superb. We followed it with a cheese plate and two types of port, nice.... This place was also a little less pricey than those in the centre. I highly recommend it for all types of groups, meat lovers and veggies and those that like dining in a nice place. Would definitely go back.

Excellent neighborhood gem

By funtripster |

Wonderful restaurant near Rittenhouse Square. Food and drink selections are outstanding and the service is wonderful. Recently enjoyed a dinner meal there with one of the most pleasant wait staff ever! Specialty house drinks are spectacular and the mixed cheese appetizer plate is a lovely complement to any meal. Reservations are a good idea. Only downside - very noisy if crowded - and it usually is.

Loud Restaurant/Bar

By otrs |

I am surprised at all the fab reviews. I was a little disappointed in this place. It is a nice looking place and we went originally for dinner on a Sunday with adult family. In all fairness, I was still full from lunch but I thought the menu choices were an odd mix. It is a loud restaurant so group conversation was challenging also. The guys all got hamburgers (bison) which they really liked and the girls got appetizers. The oysters were very good but the Lamb chemise was dry & overcooked. Service was fine but will not be rushing back to this place.

Would be Very Good Anywhere but Philly

By TBD |

I went for a visit after some glowing recommendations from coworkers. While TMG is a solid restaurant, it can't compete with some of the amazing restaurants in this city. Pros: Montalcino by the glass. A comfortable and nice atmosphere. Cons: Food and service were mediocre. Citrus thyme shrimp with black bean hummus was tasty so long as you avoided the random salsa. Brussels sprouts had no flavor except for the char from cooking. Service was mildly attentive despite the restaurant being pretty empty.

Excellent food and fun place to eat!

By RayBux |

The food and staff at Twenty Manning are both so excellent! My wife and I had dinner there and thoroughly enjoyed our experience! The meat and cheese platters for an appetizer are a must do and for dinner we had the pan seared butternut squash raviolis and the grilled prime Berkshire pork chop. We had the cheesecake and berry tort for dessert. We will be coming back when we are in Philly again for sure!

Noisy, overpriced, tiny chairs, and small quantities of food.

By Lynn C |

We could barely hear each other talk. The chairs were ok for small people, but they were ice cream parlor-type chairs...no booths. This is a pricey place and the food (what little there was of it) was really delicioiius. Also, the waitstaff was excellent. We were visiting Philadelphia and wanted to try a new place. Not worth it.

Our hotel recommended this to us. The crab cakes were excellent. Different than what I’m used to but I liked them a lot. I’m not a salmon person but I liked my husbands salmon. The desserts looked good but we were full.

Twenty Manning Nice Place

By PhillyFan2019 |

We tried this restaurant on a Saturday evening with a group of four people. They are only open for dinner. Everyone liked the decor and atmosphere. We all thought the food was excellent. The appetizer selection was unique and varied. The menu had some standard fare items and some eclectic, cosmopolitan selections. The chef did a really great job bringing together flavors and seasonings. The service was good but nothing special. The seating was a little tight. The place got very crowded and it was so loud you could barely hold a conversation with the person next to you, and I like busy, loud places. It is located in a nice neighborhood just off of Rittenhouse Square. The menu and food preparation make this restaurant a place to visit at least once.

Great Vibe plus Great Food

By Carol N |

What a great little place, loved the vibe. The staff was on point and the portions were plentiful. I wasnt sure which wine to order so our waiter offered to bring me a tasting of two to decide which was fabulous. The menu had so many delightful selections, we kept looking around at what other people were eating and it all looked wonderful. My friend and I decided to share the Thursday night special of Fish & Chips plus the Steak Frites, and we were thrilled with our choices. The fries were perfection. If I am lucky enough to get back to Philly soon, I will definitely return, we forgot to order dessert!

20 Manning Never Disappoints!

By EP1229 |

I've been going here for years but am finally writing a review. Went again last night and the service, food and cocktails were amazing. Both vegetarians and non-vegetarians have plenty of choices. They cook food to order, handle substitutions without any problem and the bartending staff is second to none. I love this place!

It was fine

By Alexandra7457 |

Three of us for dinner. We started with cocktails - which got good reviews from our group. I had a non-alcoholic margarita and was happy that it was not a bottled mix. Two of us started with beet and goat cheese salads which were pleasant. I had the pan-seared wild mushroom raviloi - which was a little tough and sparse on the plate. Others had the lobster roll and the pork chops - which they reported were quite nice. No dessert, no wine. Service was fine - they did a nice job of keeping my water glass full. The food came promptly and we were asked how everything was. I was disappoined, however, when they took my plate away before the other diners were finished. I hate that. My husband is trying to tell me that removing plates before everyone is done is the new 'normal'; that most people don't want to have an empty plate in front of them. I think it's just rude and poor manners. But I can't knock this place for it - so many restaurants do it nowadays. The atmosphere was VERY noisy. Seems to be a mixed age crowd - no kids in sight - lots of dates and probably a local favorite. People were eating outside on last night's pleasat night.

One of my favorites in Philadelphia

By Ameena |

My husband, daughter and I had dinner at Twenty Manning Grill last night and I have to say, this was a great way to kick off our first trip to Philadelphia. Ambiance: Welcome, modern, inviting - an overall nice place Service: Our server was friendly and fast. Food came out quickly. Food: I am a huge fan of salmon, but it's not easy to find the wild variety. Twenty Manning not only had the wild variety but prepared it perfectly. The accompany vegetables were fantastic too. My husband had the chicken and ate every bite. My daughter had a pizza with a side of green beans. She loved both. And the chocolate fondant (oddly named as it's more of a lava cake) was a huge hit with the husband and daughter. Overall this place is reasonably priced, had excellent, organic food, and good service. If I'm in Philly again I'll definitely return.

Good Food and Drinks

By jdjay |

Met friends here for dinner. It is conveniently located off of Rittenhouse Square. Our table was ready per our reservation. A nice menu with specialty cocktails and good food. We started with the beet salad, and chopped salad. As entrees, we had the scallops, yellow fin tuna, and the fish of the day which was a branzino. Everything was expertly prepared and presented, and our service was very good and not rushed. A pleasant meal. Atmosphere was a bit loud, but it was a Friday night.

Very Good Food and Lively Atmosphere near Rittenhouse Square

By Martin R |

This was our first visit to Twenty Manning Grill, and we will certainly be back. The food was excellent; the atmosphere was lively, and the service was prompt and attentive. I had a plate of large, succulent scallops, accompanied with a squash purée and sautéed spinach, and everything was delicious. My wife had a very tasty duck dish. We finished off the meal with a luscious chocolate fondant. If you are in the mood for an excellent meal, prepared simply and well, in a lively Bistro atmosphere, give Twenty Manning a try.

Great Atmosphere-Great food-Great Night!

By Julie S |

What a fun night we had here! First of all-huge shout out to the hostess. We were driving to Philly from another state and ended up in horrible traffic. We were going to be so late that I had to call twice. When we finally arrived, (so late!) the hostess acted as if it wasn't a big deal and had saved a great table for us!! So many places would just make you feel horrible, but the evening started out great with her greeting!! We had a great waiter named Gabe. You know when someone is just really good at what they do? This would be Gabe. His awareness of when to come by, when to ask if you were in need, and when to just stay back and be observant was perfect. It wasn't just for our table. I watched him serve all his tables with this natural knowledge of how to truly "serve". We ended up eating during restaurant week so we had a few courses. All of them just fantastic food! Well done kitchen! Loved the atmosphere- can't wait to go back again sometime!! p.s. we ended up finding street parking and felt completely safe walking back and forth.

Varied Menu, Local Haunt

By Mali |

Twenty Manning is clearly a popular local spot, judging from the crowds that kept piling in. I would definitely recommend making a reservation. The menu was nicely varied and we all enjoyed our meals. The food did take a while, and the acoustics are not great, as we really had to raise our voices to have a conversation, which was a little tiring after a while. Overall, however, this was an enjoyable experience!

Unremarkable food, unremarkable service

A group of 9 of us ate here after a business meeting. This restaurant, near Rittenhouse square, is surrounded by a plethora of outstanding food establishments, and to survive in this environment, you need to stand out. Unfortunately, Twenty Manning Grill does not. The service staff is young, poorly trained and although seemingly well intentioned not able or willing to help out across the restaurant. The food is standard fare. The chop-chop salad was barely chopped at all, in reality was really a tossed salad. Entrees had no flare. The ravioli, which are three tasteless lumps fried in butter with no other sauce should avoided at all costs. When in Philadelphia, there are so many wonderful restaurants to chose from. Choose another one.
