Ribs! Ribs! Yummy Ribs!!!

By ljiljan385 |

I don’t know where to begin, so I will just say that the service was AMAZING! The ribs were out of this world! The ribs have 3 different barbecue sauces and we were able to try all 3. This place was a little piece of history that, with all of the people in the place that night, so many people were enjoying and it seems will enjoy for years to come!!

First time visiting and it won't be the last!

By Linda010659 |

What a great find! First, the bread they give you when you sit down was absolutely delicious. We ordered two large Caesar salads for 6 people and it was the perfect amount. We all ordered the ribs (2 had the rib & chicken combo). The meat fell off the bones. The chicken was very good too. You had a choice of one side with your meal. They do not take reservations so good luck coming in just at the right time so you don't have a long wait for a table.

Still the same place I remember!

By Thomas W |

Had not been back here for nearly ten years. One would think that time would have taken its toll and the restaurant would be different. Not so! Same fall off the bone great ribs. I was there with our family from Michigan and we are from Florida. glad to see that old haunts in Chicago still have great food, great service and an ambience from no where else. I would highly recommend this place to native Chicagoans and Tourists as you will not be disappointed.

A Chicago Classic. Not to be missed

By Travelling with T-Rex |

One of my favorite all time meals in Chicago. Truly not to be missed. Yes, there is a wait and there are no reservations, but good things are worth waiting. Slow it down--put your name in, grab a beer and wait. Gotta love a restaurant where you can order in three words -- Full, Zesty, Fries. nuff said. only question is whther to get a slab for the table for all to share once they are done with their own. dont forget some onion rings. check out some of the history on the walls. And, as always "positively no dancing". will be back soon.

Great Throwback or Tired Concept?

By Mark S |

Until last night I had not been to Twin Anchors in at least 20 years. Little has changed since then. There are not many Budweiser signs hanging outside bars anymore. The restaurant has not lifted a finger to get in step with "modern" dining methods, so to speak. The place has not expanded- it is extremely small and the furnishings are old and tired. The mens' small washroom has an old-fashioned urinal trough like you're back at Wrigley Field. There are still no reservations taken. You are cramped in the bar waiting for a table. Yes, the ribs are great but they were not served piping-hot. Also, because of the size of the place and the waiting (people in the bar area see to be watching the diners eating their meals) the place tries to turn the tables over very quickly, giving you a hurried feel and making you anxious. Your meal is served very fast- within 10 minutes. They have everything ready. Our waiter gave us the bill shortly after our meals came, not bothering to ask us if we wanted anything else (dessert?). He was very pleasant but he wanted to turn the table as there were probably 20 to 30 people waiting for a table. One nod to the present is the fact that the place has a nice selection of varied craft beers. All-in-all this is a hurried and cramped dining experience and the ribs are great but not worth this hassle.

OK NOT GREAT

By chicagotourist_8 |

Several people recommended highly so we decided to try. Yes they claim Sinatra hung out here. But it is so loud you cannot hear yourself think. The beans are really good, slaw is really heavy. The ribs and sauce are ok: this place is expensive. And $17 to park: give me a break. The place is packed and they had a waiting list so evidently very popular. But you can get better and fantastic ribs at other places. We are not going back.

Fortune Smiles

As a Batman fan, I originally visited this bar because it’s one of the film locations for The Dark Knight (2008). I was really impressed at how much history the restaurant has, and even more impressed at the fact that Frank Sinatra was one of its patrons. It was early in the evening when we arrived and the atmosphere was very friendly. The service is as amazing the ribs. It was worth every penny. There was no noticeable delay in our food or drinks. Unlike Harvey Dent, we will definitely be returning the next time we’re back in the windy city.

Benefits of Getting a Local Recommendation

By Shane R |

I was in town visting from Toronto and my friend in Wheaton IL recommended this place for their ribs. I was given ordering instructions of "full slab, zesty with rings". Followed the instructions when Jen behind the bar asked if I liked a sauce with a little bit of spice and because I do, she suggested a side of their Prohibition Sauce. It was awesome...so awesome I bought a bottle before I left. This place is tucked away in Old Town and without a local's intel, you'd never know it was there nor think to go looking for it. It definately has a neighborhood tavern vibe to it but you can tell the locals know this place well and love it. I got there about 5pm on a Friday and by 6pm the tables were full and people were standing 6 deep behind my seat at the bar! Lots of families included. Great food, great selection of craft beers (don't bale and order a Bud!) and for a place that was slammed with patrons, the service was excellent and friendly. Get their early as they don't accept reservations! Finally, forget the cab or the Uber if you're coming from downtown, hop on the Brown Line to Sedgewick and walk the couple of blocks north. It is worth the effort!

Ribs are fantastic

By tdanowski |

Had dinner with my son here and it was a wonderful experience. It was a Friday night, so it was CROWDED and noisy, but we had a drink and some snacks while we waited for a table. The ribs were fantastic and well worth the wait! Plus it was great just to unwind and relax and watch the city life and the people.

Pretty good ribs

By Maglamb |

We arrived by 6:30 and were seated right away, but we just beat the rush. Good meal with friendly server. Five of us ordered 3 full racks of ribs (baked potato, onion rings and fries as sides) a dozen wings and pulled pork sliders. The onion rings were the best side. All the sauces were yummy and the meat fell right off the bones. The food came out very fast. Also had cheesecake and ice cream bar for dessert. They were good but nothing to rave about. It was a lot of food. Could have done a half rack or gone without the wings. Overall, I've had better BBQ in my life, but this place wasn't bad. I would definitely go back, just wouldn't say they're the best ribs I've ever had.

Good solid food at a good solid Bar and Grille.

By Patrick J |

As she who must be obeyed (wife), daughter and I were walking back from the Ginza Fest when my daughter pointed to this corner B and G and said that they had good BBQ. I turned to Her Royal Highness (wife again) and said, "Can we stop there for BBQ?" Being kind and generous she allowed it. It had a fine outdoors seating area but I am an inside man. Here is how it was. The BBQ was good. The chili was solid and good (about an 8,) the dark bread at the tan\ble was goo and the baked potato was good. This makes the whole it has good food not just a casual comment but an actual assessment.

Ribs ribs ribs!! Service was super awesome

By Murali V |

Nice small place with great ribs. Service was absolutely fantastic. Get a few beers and order ribs and you're sorted. Pricing reasonable. I'll say again, service was fantastic - you must go.

Get a taste of what Chicago ribs are all about

By pauljer |

According to its website, Twin Anchors has hosted Frank Sinatra and countless other celebrities and has been featured in both Return to Me and The Dark Knight. The baby back ribs are Chicago-style, meaning it’s not even technically considered barbecue. The ribs are slow-cooked rather than smoked, so the sweet and sloppy meat droop lifelessly in the classic Chicago fall-off-the-bone fashion. And, oh yes, I love the “zesty” (really tangy) sauce which elevates these bone shiners to finger lickin’ good. Charmingly dingy and as neighborhoodsy as can be, the space is small and it’s a no-booking restaurant, so you might have to queue. I am not sweet-natured. I’m getting old. I might be dead soon. The food really has to be worth it. Happily, at Twin Anchors, it is. If I lived in Chicago, I’d have a hard time staying away for too long. This is the true truth as I say it as it is…

Once-upon-a-time this may have been a special place

By Projournalist |

Twin Anchors is hidden on a quiet, leafy street just a few blocks from the bustling "Old Town" district of Chicago, and its walls are replete with autographs of "famous people" who have eaten there, including Helen Mirren, Frank Sinatra and a host of sports stars. The dim interior, with its dark wood walls, looks like it hasn't been updated (or even thoroughly cleaned) since Sinatra's visit. Having been advised about good BBQ ribs, we tried them. But they were disappointingly meager and flat-flavored. The uninspired sauce didn't help. Ditto for the onion rings (which seemed suspiciously like packaged ones from Sysco) or the cole slaw. Like the food, service was mediocre; our server promised our "anchovies-on-the-side" of the Caesar salad, but they never arrived - even after our follow-up. We were later informed the restaurant had run out of anchovies (at dinnertime on a Tuesday). After requesting "cream or milk and sugar" with our coffee, it arrived without any creamer or milk. We didn't bother to follow up on that. Despite the convenience of this place near our lodging, we would not return.

Lovely dinner for 2

By DWW12345 |

Lovely dinner for 2 with friendly service and lovely food. Always popular and busy so get in pre 6pm to best the rush. Very short walk from a CTA station. I had full rack of ribs with beans and prohibition sauce and would re order that :) I eat quite a lot but I’m sure some people would consider the full rack a bit much and go for a half :!

Dinner

By Mlhutch1 |

This is a local neighborhood restaurant with a long history. The waitress arrived very soon after I arrived to service the table. I had the ribs with onion rings. The meal arrived in a very timely matter. The ribs were excellent very moist, meaty, mild bbq sauce made the ribs taste great. The bread basket with the dark rye bread was an added touch. The waitress did a great job of taking care of everything.

One Stop Shop for a Stellar Experience

By Elizabeth Larnerd |

One of the greatest experiences of my life. As a HUGE “Return to Me” movie fan, and Frank Sinatra fan- this, was ultimate. We were first in line prior to opening at noon on a Sunday. We immediately got the booth from “Return to Me” (where David Duchovny and his hilarious, obnoxious crew sat and Minnie Driver waited on them). The sink Minnie used to fill the Aquifina bottle with tap water is there 😃. The owner was so friendly and welcoming as well. Take the time to look around at the walls. Lots of awesome things to see there. The food? Ribs were the most fall of the bone I’ve ever eaten. The sauce was absolutely delicious, fries, slaw, pulled pork- all very, VERY yummy!!! As if it couldn’t get any more perfect- the Steelers/Browns game was on, too, and right where we were sitting! Did I mention the 7 minute (adorable) walk to the gate where Minnie slaps David in the movie?!?! Wow!!!!!!!!!!!

A little bit if history with a lot of taste

By TheMichaels |

It's been 12 years since our last visit and we were looking forward to coming back to Twin Anchors. It didn't disappoint- food was great and well priced. Service was great, such friendly and informative host. Would recommend.

Local & delightful

By Dee G |

Food was good. Service was excellent. Place was thriving with a mix of families with Younglings to business & everything in between. Ordered pulled pork sandwich with zesty sauce & grilled salmon sandwich.

Great ribs and lovely people make this back to basics place really special.

By Asta P |

What a find! Totally unpretentious, back to basics place, with the rack of ribs just as good as led to believe by previous reviews. So good that we are picking up some more frozen ones tomorrow to take home with us. Good beer and truly lovely staff.

Super Find

By PEBBLEFAN |

Went late on a Wednesday night after arriving in Chicago. One of the guys in our group was given the recommendation by a friend. His friend was right. Most of us went for the Baby Back Ribs they were so damn good!! Think someone had Fish and Chips which they said were excellent. Beers were ice cold. From the outside you'd think Dive Bar but don't be fooled. Excellent food, a great waitress and great vibe. Trust me try this plave if you're in Chicago, you won't be disappointed. Highly Recommend

Nit convinced

By Nudles21 |

The placed was packed with people and they have an extensive beer list! The ribs were good but nothing special. It's an ok spot to visit with some friends when you are in the area but nothing special.

Great spot away from crowds.

By Jeff M |

Went past this place on Second City neighborhood tour. Lots of celebs in the past and part of Dark Knight filmed there. Great ribs and fantastic ice cream. Take the tour, stay for lunch.

Legendary ribs, legendary service

By Don Orlando |

Most recent visit to Twin Anchors Ribs in Chicago confirms this restaurant's legendary ribs and service. A choice of three sauces, zesty, prohibition and mild, enhances the experience of these fall off the bone baby back ribs. Sides of coleslaw and onion rings makes a visit to Twin Anchors memorable, just as it did for Frank Sinatra and other notables over its long tenure.

Legendary in every way, and still going strong.

By Dreamer2182 |

Still going strong and as good as ever! Twin Anchors has been a fixture in Old Town for over 50 years. I hadn't been there in over 30 years, but when I walked through the door, it was like time and stood still. The bar, the noise level, the casual old school bar vibe is the same. The ribs are the star of the show, but don't be shy about trying their burgers. The fries are real and the portions are decent. The mix of tourists and regulars made me laugh. Once upon a time a woman named Margie ran the place and only locals knew what a treasure it was. Definitely worth a trip to that part of town.

Great Ambiance. Meh Food

By J Crampton |

I want to love this place. It is a cool old-school neighborhood place that the tourists don't get to. It is steeped in history and lots of celebs used to come here back in the day. It's noisy and busy and not at all pretentious. Their clam to fame are the ribs. But the problem is that they are just ok. It's definitely not a BBQ joint. The ribs are not smoked. They are oven baked and then slathered with your choice of sauces, all of which are just ok (and I tried them all). If you are in the area, definitely give this place a shot. It's a landmark. Just don't expect to be wowed by the food. It's not bad, but it's nothing memorable either.

Still the best ribs ever - hands down!

By Dianne1228 |

Once again we feasted on the best ribs ever. Don't know how they achieve the perfectly cooked meat, fall off the bone, no grease or gristle but still juicy flavor! Well worth the 30 minute wait. The Prohibition sauce is second to none. Love the friendly neighborhood comfort food feel. Can't wait to go again! Every time we eat ribs elsewhere, we long for this place. From the moment you walk through the bar area, to the hostess stand to register your table request, you can smell the delicious aromas. Prices are reasonable and they offer chicken, salmon, sandwiches and salads for those who don't want to indulge in perfectly cooked ribs. Give it a try!

Where's the meat?

By PaulPrew |

I was disappointed that their go-to item, Slab of Ribs, had very little meat on them. Everything else I was very satisfied with.

Great neighborhood- and vintage vibe

By ellen b. |

What a fun place ! Feels like you are entering the 1940’s - has a very vintage vibe in the decor. Great staff- extremely friendly - I don’t care for ribs but still thought the food was good - all my dinner companions raves about the ribs and hearty portions- most of them shared a rib dinner -

Good food as always but don't like the smell of bleach!

By jazzyart |

I have been here a few times now and the food is I have to say amazing. Best ribs ever fact!!! No one comes close. But their glass cleaning, kitchen or Washrooms, not sure which but I can always smell bleach. It's quite overpowering. I wish they could sort that out. Then five starts. I think maybe where we are sat? In the back on the right. I will ask to be moved next time. I will come back though for the ribs. Yummy!!

Be Patient

By Cag3doc |

Came with a group of 9 at 5:00 on a Saturday. Tables were filled and a few people at the bar, was told the wait was 45 minutes to an hour. Enjoyed the extensive beer list at the bar and was finally seated over 90 minutes later. By that time the place was packed, but the food did not disappoint! Baby backs are the specialty, and they were amazing as always. Have been here quite a few times and they have always been great! The Prohibition sauce is sweet but has a heat that starts subtle and grows as time goes by. Left with a full belly and tingling lips. Superb!

Post Bears Game!!

By Prego51 |

After sitting for 3 hours in a very cold Soldier Field (Bears lost) we made our way to Twin Anchors for a post game meal. We called ahead and were able to secure a table. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating and the food, of course, was amazing. Most people had the ribs but I had the shrimp-amazing!!! It was great!!

A gem ! Enjoy !

By 124pilot |

It is almost like in a time capsule: This restaurant/bar catapults you right back into the 'good ole' days' of Chicago. Don't be surprised when you feel like rubbing your eyes as you think 'Ol' Blue Eyes' Frank Sinatra is walking through the door. You can literally feel how this place must have been hopping when he and his posse were in town. These days, enjoy on a drink at the bar whilst you're waiting for your table (yes, this place is busy - almost always !) and then indulge into those ribs which will melt in your mouth. The service is friendly - certainly if you are. What a place ! Enjoy !

Best ribs anywhere on Earth!

By David F |

I haven't been to Twin Acres in almost 10 years and you know what it's as good as ever ! I once also lived in old town and for the last 35 years I have been going there. Just not as often as I used to like too. Go there you will not be disappointed

Felt Like this was a Have-To--And Now We've Been There

By AmateurSpiceMan |

The food was adequate but did not live up to the hype on the menu or that I found in other reviews. They are banking on their reputation and surely they make their bucks primarily in alcohol sales not food. It's a tavern that sells food. Anyway, it was on our list partially because of its role in two movies we love, The Dark Knight and Return To Me. The baked beans were the best part of our meals, flavorful, savory, meaty, thick, not beany-tasting. The onion rings were pretty good but not overly flavorful. The chicken tenders were, well, chicken tenders. The ribs were not meaty [as the menu claims] or even seasoned very much. The multiple sauces that came with the ribs and chicken were very tasty and necessary. Take a photo by the front window and get beans to go, or plan to meet up with friends and enjoy drinks.

Great ribs!

By Ron S |

Met my son at Twin Anchors for barbeque ribs and they did not disappoint. Had a rack my self with all the trimmings. Great little tavern with well appointed bar and cold beer. Have a great place now to visit!

Batten down the hatches, it's time for ribs!

By PKsTrippin |

My wife and I were referred to Twin Anchors by our new friend Cathy, the concierge at Villa D' Citta. The bar was within easy walking distance from our hotel, and in a really safe and comfortable neighborhood. It was Saturday night and pretty busy. We avoided the one hour wait by eating at the bar. I had the ribs and chicken combo with their "prohibition sauce". Very tasty indeed. The side caeser salad came with anchovies and the bartender was nice enough to bring me more. The service at the bar was just as good as if we were at a table. No waiting. Great neighborhood place.

one of my best meals ever

By puppitoandtruffles |

Twin Anchors doesn't need another 5 star review but I'm going to give it anyway. GREAT location (FREE parking in the neighborhood which is also full of adorable houses), atmosphere feels old timey, lots of nostalgic Frank Sinatra and brat pack memorabilia on the walls. Our server was amazing! somebody who was proud of her work and proud of her restaurant. the food? seriously delicious. We had the Ribs, chicken wings and bbq pork sliders. what is the deal with their ranch sauce? they put some kind of cheese in it and it is the best ranch sauce we have ever eaten. we called it magic sauce. I was literally licking the bowl shamelessly. it was so good. I tried to find the recipe online but it is apparently a secret. You MUST make time to eat here when you go to Chicago!!

Food always amazing!!! The bleach smell needs to go though!

By jazzyart |

I LOVE the food at Twin Anchors and I hate to give it 4 starts. The staff in the main are great. Let's face it they are rushed off their feet. There are a couple of things I noticed this last time (we have been many many times) The smell of bleach near the bar is bad. I am not sure where it is coming from but it penetrates into the back part of the restaurant. The other thing was the wait time. The lady said it was going to be and hour and a half. We love the food so much we were prepared to wait. Anyway I think a lot of people left as our names were called after about 30 mins. By then we had sat at the bar and had ordered. We told them we were there but they still had us down on the list. I think the long wait time put people off and they left. I think be realistic of course but don't over egg it. By the time we left at 9.30 pm it was pretty empty which was unusual. Maybe just a crazy busy night early on. Anyway we will be back as the ribs are the best in the city so worth the wait!!!

Amazing ribs

By Edward D |

This restaurant is steeped in history going back to prohibition days. Was one of Sinatra’s favorite places back in the day. I had the ribs on Sunday. They were awesome! The sauce is indescribably delicious!! If you visit the area make it a point to go there..

Chicago Tradition

By Trilogy328 |

Chicago tradition since 1932. No glitz, no glamour---but place reeks of history and the glory days of the Rat Pack. Sinatra always sat in Booth #7. You can feel the stories while you sit there. Solid menu and the ribs are great (you can find better ribs but you cannot find great ribs with the history and atmosphere of Twin Anchors. Glad I listened to my friends and made this a stop on my stay in Chicago.

Great atmosphere and ribs!

By ChanimalKingdom |

All of the reviews are spot on. This is great local restaurant with a very friendly staff. We sat at the bar and talked to several people who either used to live in the neighborhood or walked to the bar for dinner. As suggested with got the whole rack zesty with rings. We also got a side of the prohibition sauce which is excellent with a little heat on the back end. If you want to go a local spot and have excellent ribs and a good time go Twin Anchors. A fun night might be to eat at the anchors and then walk to Second City.

A good ribbing

By Tim |

My wife and I used to frequent the restaurant when we lived a few blocks away. We made a return trip after the marathon and enjoyed our experience. On a Sunday afternoon after the marathon, we went at 4:30p and had to wait about 30 minutes. We knew this was likely going to happen and were fine with it. We would have gone to the bar but it was busy too. The server that waited on our table waited on us years ago. We were surprised that she was still there and as cheerful as ever. We enjoyed our ribs and sides (onion rings and coleslaw. The ribs are either baked or boiled which I get- it’s Chicago and there isn’t room to build a smoker in the back alley. We still enjoy the ribs and that they are pretty moist. We really like this place and haven’t been back in about a decade. The restaurant is about 80 years old and it seems like you’re stepping in to a different era.

A voracious consumer

By reallylikes2travel |

It’s a day that I was granting my child wishes - Things To Do in Chicago. One was to have dinner in this restaurant. We walked from Riverwalk to this Restaurant of nearly 4mi by almost one hour. Yes, we did! This got to be good, these ribs!!! I was amazed that my child was motivated. To be honest, I was the one asking her “Are we there yet?” a few times. (She’d the cellphone using the “google maps” on to guide us.) When we got there, it’s packed. The place need it to expand & provide a waiting area rather than by the bar which is awfully noisy & not a great place to wait when you have a child. It’s alright with my child and also she didn’t mind waiting of 38 minutes b4 they gave us a table, took 12 minutes to have our order arrived which we served by a lovely attentive lady, named Debbie. I wished I’d ordered two slabs of ribs rather than one coz my child had eaten 3/4 of the slab. I wasn’t that hungry though. I thought one slab of ribs was enough for us. We‘ asked for another small plate of fries. Also their softdrinks is free refill. Their sauce was delicious. Warning, don’t try their hottest sauce coz it was hot! But we did! We bear the “pain” coz it’s delicious 😋. I loved seeing my child how she enjoyed our meal. My child gave double thumbs up, my picky eater child. She said that she wanted to come back again. Because of the waiting & walking, instead of 5 star rating, 4 star instead.

Fun neighbourhood ribs place

By FoodiesAnonymous |

Had heard this was a great place to go in my BFF's 'hood, so we went and tried it. Yes, it was very good! Lively inside and pleasant outside, we had a small rack of ribs with their signature spinach. Obviously popular with the locals, it serves up beer and other hearty fare besides the ribs. Can recommend!

Not worth it

By Michelle R |

My husband and i traveled to chicago for a long weekend. After reading the reviews we decided ro give it a try. The ribs were not that good and the sauce was odd. The onion rings were blah, plentiful but greasy. I got the creamed spinach it was tasteless. While the food was edible it was not recommendable. The moral is if you are expecting bbq go to Kansas City!

The best ribs!!!!

By Doymo |

We've been to Twin Anchors multiple times. You can tell by the constant crowds that it's a favorite. Their ribs are tender and juicy. Their rib sauces are all amazing - you're sure to find one you like. Their sides are also good. The waitstaff has always been friendly. They have an outdoor patio that is nice if the weather permits.

Reviews don't lie

By WmECamp |

Stopped in here for the ribs based on the reviews. Waiting for my wife at another venue. The history in this place is amazing as well as the ribs. As others have written the staff is so friendly and helpful. It was a Sunday afternoon so the place was pretty relaxed with football games on.

Weekend Lunch

By Dawn L |

We were going somewhere nearby and always wanted to try Twin Anchors. Stopped for weekend lunch, all four of us had the fall-off-the-bone ribs. We had the zesty sauce and fries. Great time to go (no waiting), service was good and food was delicious! Can't wait to go back and we even followed up our visit with watching the movie Return To Me!

Great beer selection

By Cindy G |

Went here because the ribs were recommended. They were good (had better in Texas) but the chicken was phenomenal!! Loved the beer choices. Spinach side was heavy on the garlic but yummy. The seating outside was limited but oh so nice when we got to sit there on a lovely September evening. Neighborhood seemed safe. Walked there from the Navy Pier. Took Uber back.

Great BBQ

By James L |

Six of us went there tonight for the first time. Our meals were outstanding, but some of the beverages just didn’t make it. No ice for the water served in juice glasses. There was only pop gun iced tea, nothing freshly brewed. Great beer selection, but mixed drinks were lacking. My wife thought the ribs were the best she ever had. Everyone loved the food, because the beverages were just average.

'My kind of place (in) Chicago'

By Steve B |

I figure that Twin Anchors is the primo spot for drinks and excellent ribs, with the greatest 'Prohibition' BBQ sauce. I won't eat ribs anywhere else in Chicago and burbs.

Long wait, but well worth it.

By sunhead |

This is a very small place which gets very crowded. We had an hour plus wait. But the bartending staff was excellent. The wait staff equally so. Food came out quickly, maybe too quickly suggesting it's already prepared and just waiting to be put on a plate. But it's hard to fault the place overall for the atmosphere, people and great taste.

Pretty fab! I'd visit again.

By 3rdCoastHighlander |

I love old, historic bars. Where ever I find myself around the world, these are the places I love to visit. I love the history, the patina, and atmosphere. I really enjoyed Twin Anchors- ghosts of Sinatra and all. Two in my party ordered a 1/2 a rack of ribs. Mine were excellent. My wife's were rather dry. My daughters, both vegetarians, ordered the veggie burger if I remember correctly and enjoyed their dinners. The service was excellent, and my pints arrived soon after I ordered them. We'll return.

Very average ribs

By ssk |

I used to come here back in the 90's so I thought it would be fun to check it out again with my husband and son. The 2021 experience just doesn't measure up. We got there very early; around 5:00. My husband and I both ordered the ribs and our son got fish and fries. I will say that the fish and fries were excellent. Our ribs, on the other hand, were barely warm and had no sauce on them (the sauce was served on the side.) Yes, the ribs meat fell off the bone but they almost seemed like they were reheated and had very little flavor. I can think of a dozen other places that have better ribs. The sides were fine. I liked the creamed spinach but that too was barely warm. The service was pretty good. The best part of this "joint" is the long bar. If you're in the area and feel like stopping for a burger or fish, it's fine but don't go out of your way to try the ribs.

Do You Love Old Town Flavor and Service???

By Doug D |

I went to this famous bar restaruant before the Cubs playoff game at a recommendation from a very good friend. This place is awesome. The ribs are to die for... So much for Portillos or or other large chain's ribs.. These melt in your mouth. A must see if you ar in or near Old Town!! The service is extremely good as well!! Small and quaint place from the 1930's... A must go to!!!

Still the best rib place in Chicago

By James H |

I have been coming to Chicago for the last 20+ years and every time I come I make a pilgrimage to Twin Anchors . A place that never lets me down . Ribs, Onion Rings and prohibition sauce is all you need to know. They also have a great craft beer selection.

We Traveled all the Way from Florida for Twin Anchors

By Ali |

My husband and I run a boat charter company in Sarasota, Florida and some of our charter guests highly recommended Twin Anchors if we ever traveled to Chicago. They said it was the best Bar-B-Q in town and you have to try the Prohibition Sauce - it is too die for! Well, we decided to take a vacay to the windy city to celebrate my husband’s 40th Birthday and we added this place to “the list.” Great Decision! I wasn’t sure how busy it was going to be on a Tuesday night, so we got there around 5:30pm for an early dinner. It was busy, but there were plenty of tables, so we were good. This place is a typical, northern, neighborhood “house type” restaurant/bar in an adorable area of town. The restaurant is on the bottom of the house and it looks like there might even be an apartment on the top. Inside was homey, older, loved and full of life, but with no fluff. The employees were all friendly and you could tell that some of them might have worked there a long time. Our server was cool and she did a fantastic job! She immediately took our orders, answered all of our questions and the drinks & bread were brought right out. Warning - Do Not fill up on the bread! We decided on the ribs with baked beans, crinkle cut French Fries and cream spinach as our sides...oh, and don’t forget the prohibition sauce please. The ribs were really fantastic and slid right off the bone, the spinach was delicious and yes, creamy, crinkle cut fries are always yummy and the baked beans were so tasty with the pork mixed in, they were sinful. Now on to the sauce...so they do offer a few different selections, but we only tried the Prohibition. It was soooooo good and definitely had a spicy kick - it is a winner for sure! Prices are average for the city, they have a full bar available (even had my fave beer on tap - Allegash White) and it is walking distance to a lot of things to do. We decided to pair the restaurant with a comedy show at Second City (10 minute walk) for a fun date night. So glad we were able to check this place out and pretty impressive your “word of mouth” raves have made it down south into Florida! You guys are doing it right for sure! Iconic Destination....Average Food!

By Mr.Buffett |

Enjoyed visiting this 70's decor classic and it's ambiance! The portions are small,a full slab is necessary if you are hungry. Their 3 choices of sauces are all good,I preferred the zesty sauce. Not the greatest ribs, not the greatest onion rings but they do pour a nice drink!

Still the Best ...

By Kenton K |

Came here 35 years ago when I lived in Chicago. Even though the inside was still a classic Tavern, we sat outside on a beautiful day! Prohibition sauce was the favorite at our table.Ribs were wonderful waitress was nice and craft beers selection was fun to sample. I'm an old man, and miss FRANK SINATRA Music!' They played music to a younger crowd and I understand that but I heard more classics in a Sports bar than Twin Anchors!

Classic chocolate cake

By pingaroo |

We came here for dinner upon recommendation from a friend. We arrived around 7pm on a Friday in September without a reservation and were seated promptly. My husband and I decided to share the full slab of baby back ribs and chocolate cake. We chose onion rings, baked beans, and cole slaw as our sides. While the ribs were tasty, they were not the best that we've had (Smokin' Dave in Colorado is still the winner). However, the chocolate cake was classic - moist, spongy and not too heavy. We loved the bar ambiance and historical photos. Service was very good, and prices were very reasonable. Our meal for two costs $40.

Best ribs ever! Love the vintage, supper club atmospher!

By Fodder4B |

I've been wanting to come here for years. So glad I finally did. They really do have the best ribs, Waitress - Surass - was wonderful, very friendly and attentive. I will definitely return - often!!!

All about the ribs

The ribs were as good as I remembered them being 20 years ago when I lived in Chicago. The place has not changed - a good thing!!

Old School Restaurant with Great Ribs

By kcbindy |

My daughter and I stopped into Twin Anchors after the Second City ETC show. The place has a rich history and it just takes you back to restaurants that give good service and make sure you are taken care of in a family way. My daughter and I both had the baby back ribs. We enjoyed the Zesty sauce with its great tomato flavor. The meat comes right off the bone and is cooked just right. Twin Anchors isn't flashy. It just does things well with good food and good service.

Wouldn't return

By SamAdamsGhost |

Nothing special Chili style ribs. The chicken was dry. Onion rings were the best by far! Excellent service from waitress who's worked there for 20 years. Not recommended.

Neighborhood joint with the BEST pork ribs

By fanthailand |

A friend who’s a Chicago native took us to this joint in October. 6 of us waited about 45 minutes for a table. The pork ribs are wonderful. One of the group is a vegan, and they have a vegetarian sandwich on the menu. The sides were good. The atmosphere is a neighborhood joint with TV’s showing local sports and lots of happy patrons. It has been there for decades and is a place to try when in Chicago, We will go back next trip.

Great food!!!

By thesnurgs |

We had the ribs and they were the best I have ever had in my life! Each bite just melted in my mouth and the flavor was incredible. Do not miss this place!

Great ribs!

By spurs5 |

Had a great visit to this restaurant - we all had the ribs (3 adults and 2 teens) - everyone was happy with a half rack. Sauces were great - original and special both good.

Absolutely wonderful!

By Gary S |

I’ve been wanting to go here since seeing RETURN TO ME! This place is a hidden gem. Located on a corner is a great neighborhood. It’s a place you know the locals go to. The food was fantastic! Our server was amazing! The atmosphere was cinematic! This is definitely a place I would go back to again and again.

Great BBQ

By Smoke1YO |

That Prohibition and Zesty Sauce bought life to the BBQ. I bought a case and took it back to DFW. I recommend this spot if you in the Chi.

Best post marathon meal ever!

By MakemycakePenny |

Managed to get a table here post Chicago marathon, best ribs in the city - all went down a treat with a complimentary cocktail for finishing the race! Lovely.

An Old Standard. Good Food. Great Service.

By Bonnie T |

This 85 year old Red is one of the four oldest restaurants in Chicago. The decor has changed little. But the food is pretty good (ribs are their specialty), and the service is great. Avoid weekends if possible. This is not a big restaurant, and it gets very crowded.

My new favorite place for ribs in Chicago

By Follow2Me |

Had a great evening with my colleague and the Twin Anchor underlined it with a very friendly service, great beer, lovely ice cream (homemade?!) and tender ribs. I promise next RSNA I will be back.

Love the history of this place!

By Tash918 |

We were excited to eat at the restaurant setting of one of our favorite movies"Return to me". It was a small, quaint place with lots of fun memorabilia. The only reason I gave it a 4 is that for the price for lunch, the portions were kind of small. Other than that, we will be back for sure!

Great Chicago local restaurant!

By Leslie F |

We loved the atmosphere - very chicago and local! The pulled pork sandwich was delicious. Prices were reasonable. Overall, we had a great experience!

Best bar, best ribs

By McWett |

It was thirty eight years since my Lat visit. Nice to know some things don't change they just remain perfect. A great and I mean great neighborhood place bar that happens to serve up the best ribs and sides in all of Chicago. Known as the place to go by locals it is worth seeking out if your visiting. They don't take reservations but if you put your name in for a table, belly up to the bar for a drink and look around you will soon find yourself in a lively discussion with locals about the Cubs, Sox, Bears, Hawks or Bulls or what city has the best whatever. You will be made to feel at home and wish that you don't have to wait so long to come back.

Best BBQ Ribs in the world!

By Luis R |

This place is a hidden gem in Chicago, little known by tourists! Really the best BBQ ribs I've ever tried! The beer selection is amazing too! You can't go wrong with this place. There I guarantee you won't regret it! Final advice: Don't judge the place by it's looks!

The locals don't lie

By Anthony B |

Upon walking in the bar and restaurant were packed. Luckily I managed to get a stool at the bar after about 5 minutes wait. Settling in I was recommended the ribs with the hotter of the available sauces. Accompanied with an Old Fashioned. The ribs were fall of the bone delicious, and the sauce certainly had a kick. I ended up having a good chat with some locals, and another Old Fashioned. The drinks were expertly made by the bar man, who clearly knew what he was doing.

Still the Best Ribs in Chicago

By Thom |

Never disappoints. Still the best ribs in town by far. Great atmosphere, excellent services, nothing has changed in forty years.

Frank would be disappointed

By Charlene M |

A landmark in Old Town Chicago, Twin Anchors used to be a favourite place for Frank Sinatra. It also has been purported to be the basis for the "Adam's Rib" episode of MASH. I first went in 2002 and was not disappointed. Being from Canada I don't get to Chicago often but have always made a point of going to TA whenever I'm in town and last night was no exception. This was the first time I'd get to go with my husband as well. I won't be back. The ribs are now "okay". Nothing wrong with them but no longer as tasty as before and the portion size has shrunk. The unique place I used to go to is no longer unique, it's just a rib joint and a rather expensive one for what you get. On the positive side, the beans are still out of this world and the wait staff is friendly, polite and efficient.

Not What I Thought

By Missbiggun |

Reviews were fabulous on Trip Advisors and frankly from work colleagues that said I NEED to go...best BBQ in town. So we called up an Uber car and went. Ambience is fun...kinda of a hole but lots of history displayed and the have a theme with a sign and the waiters shorts that say No Dancing Allowed. Not very many tables.i totally get it when they say long waits due to his. We went on a Sunday afternoon and tables were open. We ordered their classic because why not! 1/2 plate of ribs with their standard zesty sauce and sides were Cole slaw, pickles and one choice. I got onion rings and my hubby got baked beans. None of it was good. The ribs disappointed. Not flavorful, little vinegar like so maybe we should have gotten the HOT special sauce? I don't think that they had any rub on the ribs either. Onion rings were soggy and kinda cold. Baked beans lacked flavor. The ribs though were really tender. Not sure what else to say...leaving my husband said we won't come back here again. I was hoping to try an iconic restaurant that we could visit over and over while in town but guess not......what's the saying first impressions are lasting impressions?

If you like ribs, you have to come here.

By JimDel10 |

Went there on a Thursday evening. Bar area was crowded, but tables were readily available. Hadn't been there in years. Their ribs are still the best in Chicago. The sauce is good, not great. But the meat on the ribs were just so damn tasty! You don't need a lot of BBQ sauce on them. Service was very good. We didn't have a lot of time to eat, as we had to go to a concert. We let the server know and he had us out of there in plenty of time. I didn't like the fact that the bread was already sitting on the table when we were seated. This is definitely a place where you can come in jeans or a suit. Unpretentious. Family friendly.

Best Ribs Ever

By MI6Reviewer |

A great old school restaurant with amazing food and quick service once seated. If you go at peak times expect to wait at least an hour at the bar, however the bar staff are very accommodating and there is plenty of room to stand or sit. The wait is definitely worth it

Isn't what it used to be

By Zarilla |

The waitress took our orders pretty well, but that is where the quality stopped. The ribs arrived luke warm at best. Probably had been cooked that afternoon and put in the fridge, then thrown on the grill for a couple of minutes and brought to the table. The sauces were okay and the onion rings tasted like they came from the local supermarket. Couldn't find our waitress to even pay the check. Not a place to go back to!

Best ribs in town. A Chicago institution.

By GSQrider |

We were regulars here when we lived in Chicago 20 years ago and made a special stop during our cross country road trip to introduce my son to rein anchors. I forbade him to order anything but the ribs and there was no complaint. Prohibition sauce is a must. Half pony brew also good. Deb our server was fantastic. Welcoming attentive but not hovering. We got there early eg 530 to avoid the usual long waits. Half order ribs was fine for me (woman) but not enough for my 20 year old son.

Ribs Baby!!!!

By Dude Man |

Excellent Ribs!! Love the prohibition sauce!! The creamed spinach and onion rings are awesome!! The Cole slaw is bomb!! Definitely will not be disappointed!!! Really solid spot!! You will crave the ribs after eating here!! Frank Sinatra loved going to Twin Anchors like I do!!

Iconic Restaurant - Food Just OK

By Reba B |

Loved the restaurant and its' history. The food was nothing special. Great neighborhood bar/restaurant. I am glad we got to experience it!

A Classic!!

By OBXTKN2 |

If you like the feeling of a northern Wisconsin tavern in downtown Chicago with some of the best ribs and burgers on the planet then this is the spot for you. Fun in the summer and cozy and festive in the winter. Just get there early if you don't want to wait.

More Than Just Pub Food

By Tom F |

Visited with another couple. We ordered a burger and ribs. Both were excellent and worth every penny. The atmosphere was wonderful.

Fabulous ribs, English like pub

By kaadmorten |

Fabulous place. Reminds me of an English pub. Very good service very nice beer anchor steam. The best ribs in town The burger, chicken and fish and chips were also good Definitely a little jewel hidden away in northern Chicago city

Fabulous 10+++

By Yves M |

Absolutely fabulous place. Best ribs I have had in a long long time. No reservation, so you have to go and wait a little. The wait is absolutely worth it. This place is truly excellent. Great service, friendly. Fantastic food. A+++.

Wow! Best Ribs Ever!

By Chris B |

Lean meat. Slow cook. Great sauce. What could be better? Nothing. Great draft beer selection and terrific home made desserts.

I cannot understand why

By James C |

everyone loves this place. The room- reminds me of a Wisconsin tavern. Which is cool. But the ribs....ugh. Steamed I would guess- and the sweet cloying sauce- not for me. If you want some real BBQ- this is not the place

Great place for ribs and other fantastic meals

By TrevorCanberra |

Celebrated a birthday here and was our best meal on a four week trip around the US. Great service, great atmosphere and great food. Do yourself a favour and make sure you visit when in Chicago.

Old Town Chicago Favorite

By Dave S |

Twin Anchors is a little off the beaten track in the Old Town neighborhood on Sedgwick in a residential area. But if you are looking for a neighborhood haunt and local favorite this is the place. According to their website, they are one of the oldest restaurants in Chicago, dating to 1932, and a favorite haunt for Frank Sinatra. Twin Anchors has also been featured on any number of local and international Chicago must do lists, two movies, and a host to Conan O'Brian. According to their website. The food is good regardless of what you order but the ribs are hands down the favorite and what you should get. There is a vegetarian option but if you don't like meat/comfort foods this is probably not the restaurant for you. Also a number of old school cocktails and a good selection of beers. Twin Anchors is not very large and gets REAL busy regardless of the night but weekends are worse. There is patio seating on the sidewalk during the warmer months. Two things to keep in mind if you are going... 1 - THEY DO NOT ACCEPT RESERVATIONS 2 - THEY WON'T SEAT YOU UNTIL EVERYBODY ARRIVES Located a few blocks off of North Avenue the best way to get to Twin Anchors is by the Brown Line L-train (Sedgwick station) or by cab/ride share. Parking in the area is zoned residential with a $90 parking ticket so you have to use valet, around $12 or pay to park on the street which is $4/hour.

Absolutely Great Ribs

By Alamills |

We went there for lunch a couple of days before Christmas. No reservations but luckily we got a table (booth) pretty quickly. The restaurant filled up soon after and when I say filled up, I really mean it. This place attracts a lot of people. The ribs were fantastic ... perhaps the best I've ever had. Service at the start was very good but as the restaurant became more crowded, it became harder to get our server's attention. However, she was great - very friendly..

So disappointing

By jamespoconor |

Dry ribs; slow service; awful fries; expensive. Clearly milking history and tourists. We could have done better from frozen section at supermarket

Best ribs in Windy City

By Vance D. |

Once upon a time my Chicago friend wanted me to taste their favorite ribs place and spontaneously took us to this tiny north side neighborhood gem of a restaurant and tavern. Frank Sinatra memorabilia is in one corner, chapel-like, which who can purview while awaiting a table, a regular feature here. Enjoy it, because the Baby Back ribs are more than worth the wait. Prohibition sauce is the house favorite, tasty on both the entrees and favorite onion rings. There are a dozen quality micro-breweries on tap and in bottles. Parking is the challenge here; an Uber is your best bet. Twin Anchors is sure to become one of your favorites too.

Great Ribs

By Davidfromllinois |

Ordered ribs and chicken for carryout...as always, you can't beat the ribs and the chicken and zesty sauce was yummy...the only issue was they didn't get the order correct...we had too many orders to check in the restaurant so had to trust it was all there but one item missing and other wrong...so, if possible, I'd suggest double checking before departing if you get carryout...however, they were extremely busy so mistakes happen...classic rib joint so would highly recommend!

Neighborhood Bar and Grill

By mctacco |

One of my wife's favorite movies, "Return to Me" was partially filmed here. We were in town to to see the Giants play the Cubs at Wrigley, so I surprised my wife with a visit to the Twin Anchors. It has that definite neighborhood feel to it and the staff makes you feel right at home. The menu is varied enough for even the pickiest of eaters. Service was great and the atmoshpere was what I was hoping for, too. I hope to go back to both Chicago and the Twin Anchors.

Great place for ribs

By Matt C |

We were recommended this place by a local and it didn't disappoint. More a bar than a restaurant but the food and service was outstanding. Fantastic ribs at a reasonable price.

If it's good enough for Frank, well...

By Taylor B |

In the 1950s, so the story goes, legendary singer Frank Sinatra was persuaded to have dinner at Twin Anchors. He loved the baby back ribs and the atmosphere and the experience. Afterward, whenever Sinatra was in Chicago, he'd return to the restaurant and tavern at 1655 North Sedgwick Street and often would bring a cadre of friends with him. He even had packages of ribs shipped to his home in Palm Springs or to Las Vegas when he was starring in a show at one of the casinos. Well, Sinatra is gone now. But celebrities continue to enjoy the ribs at Twin Anchors. It is an old-school tavern and barbecue restaurant that has been doing business at the corner of Sedgwick and Eugenie since 1932. In fact, the building dates to 1881 and once was a speakeasy during the Prohibition era. By most accounts, the ribs are as tangy and tasty and tender as ever. My wife and I enjoy the old-time environment, as if Sinatra will walk in the door at any minute. At our most recent visit, we started with some old favorites, Caesar salad with chicken, a bowl of home-made chili with cheese and chicken tenders. For entrees, we chose a plate of barbecue ribs with a mild sauce and giant grilled shrimp. Other favorites on the menu are the barbecue pork sandwich, battered cod and the cheese Anchor burger. It seems everyone in the neighborhood shows up at Twin Anchors, perhaps to see which celebrities will be there. Maybe Frank himself.

Outstanding

By runnerdave60 |

Went here after Second City Comedy show. This is not where the tourists go. Chicken and ribs. Great staff. They knew we were tourists and treated us great.

Great place! A lot of history!

By Eduardo M |

Really very kind attention! Delicious ribs! Very comfortable place with a lot of history! We sat at the table where Frank Sinatra used to sit! With your phone line at your side! A Batman scene was filmed in the bar. In short, it was a very pleasant experience!

chicago classic

By Charles D |

they push alot of ribs in this old chicago classic. expect long waits from 5-8 pm on weekends. Reasonably priced and a good plate of food, rib lovers will flock to their wet rub/sauce ribs. I found them good after a 1:45 min wait but was in and out after that in an hour. Service is friendly but would never go back on a weekend at those hours.

Ribs and beer

By EsquireMan |

Fall off the bone St. Louis style ribs with three sauce choices. Good beer selection. Friendly and efficient service. Felt lucky to get a seat at the bar. Wish this place was near me - could envision hanging out here often.

Great Ribs

By Francy P |

I have no idea on any of the other food, but the ribs are fall off the bone good. We went early and had no problem getting in, but the place was packed at dinner time. Service was very friendly, and prices are fairly reasonable for Chicago

One of Frank Sinatra's favorite Chicago hangouts

By Taylor B |

Whenever Frank Sinatra visited Chicago, he always found time to sample the baby back ribs at Twin Anchors Restaurant & Tavern at 1655 North Sedgwick Street in the city's historic Old Town neighborhood. One of the oldest restaurants in Chicago, Twin Anchors occupies a building that dates to 1881. The restaurant/tavern opened in 1932 and has forever been known for its slow cooked, tender, meaty, barbecued baby back ribs. Open from 4:30 to 10 Monday through Friday and noon to 10 Saturday and Sunday, Twin Anchors offers ribs lovers a choice of three sauces to give their ribs a down home taste. What'll you have? The zesty sauce, introduced 40 years ago, is most popular with its tangy tomato base. The prohibition sauce, the latest style, developed in Kansas City in 2010, is a blend of brown sugar, cracked black pepper and ghost pepper. The mild sauce, which dates to the 1930s, features a mild tomato base with mustard powder, cumin and white pepper. On our most recent visit, we started with bowls of home-made chili with shredded cheese, chopped onion and sour cream and Caesar salad with Romaine lettuce, parmesan cheese, croutons and anchovy garnish with chicken breast. The main course, of course, was a full slab of baby back ribs with a side of baked beans with hand-pulled pork, diced onions and zesty sauce. For dessert, my wife chose a slice of cheesecake while I opted for a slice of carrot cake. Sinatra would have been proud.

A Must.

By shanmcken |

Best ribs outside of Memphis, Tennessee. Good mix of locals and tourists. Another Chicago eatery I visit when I'm in town. Can't wait to come back!!!

Fond memories of this place - enjoyed sharing with kids

By MomTaxiDriver |

Old memories of this place. It was a good as we remembered. We were told 30-60 minutes and for a table in @ 20 minutes. We found a spot to relax in the bar area while we waited. Based in reviews I got the spinach side for the first time - yummy! We all enjoyed ribs for dinner and for a variety of sides.

Chicago's Hidden Gem

By ChgoLvr2 |

How could I have lived in Chicago my whole life and missed Twin Anchors until now? Thank goodness my friends recommended we try it. It is a down home kind of place where if you go a few times everyone will know your name. Our waitress has been there for many years, in fact, she used to live above the place. She was happy to share the origin story of the restaurant. Why ribs rather than seafood with a name like Twin Anchors? It was a loving nod to the owner's two merchant marine sons. We started with the spinach artichoke dip, which was ok, but in need of more flavor. Hot sauce was a welcome suggestion. We really looked forward to the creamy garlic salad dressing, since you don't find that too often, but it didn't offer the traditional taste we were expecting. As disappointed as we were with the appetizers, the ribs more than made up for it. They were skinny fall off the bone tender baby back ribs with three types of sauces. The regular sauce was too tomatoey and blah for me, but the spicy and prohibition sauces offered the right amount of heat and sweet. We loved the chunks of succulent pork in the baked beans and the cool crisp cole slaw. Next time I'll try the crinkle cut fries. We were stuffed, but were tempted to try the wedge of carrot cake that was just the right ratio of cream cheese frosting and cake. We're so glad to have discovered this Chicago hidden gem of a restaurant.

Friendly with a local feel

By RRamanan |

We arrived just as the Chicago Cubs had won the national league so there was a real sports buzz in the place but not too hectic or loud. This a low key kind of friendly diner with a choice of burgers, ribs, chicken and spicy baked beans. I opted for the burger which was cooked how I wanted and was very tasty. The zesty beans with pulled pork were flavoursome but like a lot of US food had too much sugar in it for my taste. Very good selection of beers. Thinking of going back for the ribs.

Warm and welcoming restaurant in a residential area

By karl b |

We arrived at 6:00 p.m. and seated within minutes even thought the place was filling up quickly. For a Tuesday, we were surprised at how full it was. Very good meal with friendly server. We had a slab of ribs and an excellent salad. Would go again.

Eat like Frank Sinatra

By Carolina |

The place is magical! the food is amazing, and the staff is so friendly. I really enjoyed eating ribs, "keep em coming!" as Sinatra would say. There's a mystical/historic vibe that is only found there. Try all three the ribs sauces, all so delicious!

Nostalgia went south

By Michelle C |

I’m all for trying out local dives, sometimes they have the best food. This place only delivered on the dive and great wait staff. The food was NOTHING special. My steak was over cooked and the only thing that saved it was the garlic butter. For $30 I was a little surprised to have my baked potato served wrapped in foil and a dill pickle but okay... my husband ordered the ribs but the sauce was overpowered by vinegar. Incredibly disappointed to have wasted our last night in Chicago and $80 bucks on this place.

Rude Owner

By dthomas525 |

The Owner Paul was very rude the last time we dined there and made us feel unwelcomed. We went to Twin Anchors weekly during the height of the pandemic to help keep them in business. We have always had great service at Twin Anchors, Gina, Mary Kay, Surass, and all the other servers have always been cordial and made us feel welcome. I have recommended many people here and will cease if this is the way Twin Anchors chooses to treat clients. It a shame, the ribs are so good.

Fantastic food and great service

By Jeanne U |

Fantastic food and great service with friendly atmosphere. Best ribs in Chicago! We will definitely go back!

A must for visitors

By eddie0t |

Classic old-school joint. Strong drinks, fresh food, good service, solid draft beer selection. Ribs are why you come here. They are not traditional southern ribs so if you're a BBQ purist it's probably not your thing. These are uniquely Chicago style. But the babybacks are young, tender and fall of the bone delicious. Dry-rubbed with your choice of BBQ sauce on the side. The Prohibition sauce is sweet, spicy perfection. Onion rings are top-notch! Racks tend to be small so do yourself a favor and order a whole slab. Nice locals. Sit at the bar if you want to be entertained. Everyone talks to everyone. Best jukebox in Chicago.

Solid food but not worth the hype

By Alex H |

My stepdad, who lives in Chicago, wanted to take me to Twin Anchors while I was in town, before he moved back to Seattle. We had the chicken wings to start then a full rack of ribs, mine with a side of baked beans. The service was very friendly and they were on top of refills and anything you needed. The menu said the the wings would be crispy but they were far from it. Tasted baked and the skin was not crispy at all. The ribs were also baked, not smoked, which is my preference. They were mostly tender and pulled nicely off of the bone, but lacked any character from any other ribs. The baked beans were well seasoned and not too sweet but for some reason, had pulled pork, not in chunks but strings. The pork had broken down so much that it took me a second to figure out what it was. Totally not necessary to add the pork in my opinion. I get that it's a historic institution and I'm sure the food quality is consistent. However, I would not go again on my own.

Quite a surprise

By SFBzoo |

While on a walking tour with 2nd City it stopped in front of this tavern. We decided-to go back and give it a try for lunch. So glad we did. The ribs were outstanding, service great and try the rye bread. Tried the Primm cocktail, very refreshing.

Ribs and a speak easy all in one?? It's a win win!

By dcostopoulos |

Ribs... Ribs... Ribs. Nuff' said. When you hear people talking about Twin Anchors, one thing comes to mind. Did I mention the ribs? Yes, the ribs. With your choice of sauce to accompany the fall off the bone meaty indulgence, you can create your own little heaven of finger licking good rib goodness. Now for those of you who might be or have friends who tell you, "well, I do not eat meat." That's fine. I have to say I was one of those who took advantage of the Fish and Chips on the menu. While everyone else was mmmmmm'ing on ribs, I was quietly enjoying a great piece of battered fish in my own sea of goodness. Top it off with a great drink selection and to finish it off with a smooth, dense piece of homemade chocolate cake... Leave with a full belly and very, very happy. Twin Anchors is a good place to sit at the bar, nice date spot and a great spot for a group of friends to get together. Remember, no reservations and limited street parking in the area. You can either Spot Hero it or take advantage of their valet service. If you are visiting Chicago and taking in a nearby comedy club, local resident who has never been or just looking for that place where you ask yourself, "Where can we eat where we haven't been to yet?" Twin Anchors is the spot!

No ribs for us but the beer selection is very good

By houghielizzie |

We popped in as we wandered the old town having heard a famous person has frequented here including Frank Sinatra. Food looked excellent but we had a couple of beers and the choice was super. Great IPA's and ciders too. Will come back for a meal next time

Bar Restaurant

By gary19191 |

This is a bar/eatery specialising in ribs, burgers and other staples. There is a very wide range of drinks and we enjoyed the draught cider. The ribs were ok, but nothing special, but the burger and fries were tasty and nicely cooked. The staff were friendly and helpful although very busy. I would recommend it for a basic no-frills meal.

Twin Anchors - Excellent Food!!

By Tiffany M |

We love Twin Anchors, the food is delicious! The ribs are excellent!! The restaurant does not take reservations so we usually try to get there fairly early for dinner so we can be seated right away. Service is great and I would return over and over again!

Wow what a great place

By cons18 |

Visiting friends in Chicago and they said this was a must see. Had the ribs and the onion rings. One my favorite restaurants in Chicago now. The people are so friendly, made new friends and they were all local people. Long wait but worth it. Ask for the special sauce (not on the menus) if you like spicy.

Damn good meal.

By Rohrbach |

I used to live nearby, so I was happy to have a chance to go back to Twin Anchors on my recent stay in Chicago - it made up for getting stuck on a missed connection through O'Hare. Anchor Steam on tap, friendly vibe in the bar, and a really tasty steak. Maybe should have had ribs, but was in a steak kinda mood. Not a frilly place, but VERY good food and friendly people, lots of locals. Sinatra liked to eat there, and I imagine he would still like it today.

Fantastic Ribs

By GB218 |

Ribs were absolutely delicious. Have heard great things about the restaurant and finally had the chance to check the place out. We showed up for a late dinner (9pm) on a Wednesday night and although the place was nearly empty, the food was great! The ribs were flavorful with a nice smoky taste to them and came with a plentiful side of onion rings. Free toast and biscuits were accompanied with the meal. Will be back!

Best Ribs in town!

You want to try the best Chicago style ribs? This is the place! Ribs are cooked for hours, they become really tender and tasty. You have different choices of sauces and sides. Parking not easy, only resident permit....

Tried and True

Everything about Twin Anchors is a trip back in time. It’s cosy neighborhood atmosphere makes this a favorite spot. Ribs are outstanding along w burgers, pulled pork sandwich and the fish and chips. I have never been disappointed.

Best Ribs Ever

By Tomathy_Dalton |

Visited here on a Monday evening after a long journey over from Ireland and after having a few beers. It's a Chicago institution in Lincoln Park. The place itself is understated and is a proper bar with tables inside close together. Our server was very friendly. There's a good collection of local craft beers. I can't recall the name of what I had but it was nice. I went for the full rack with Prohibition sauce. My wife went for half rack with zesty sauce. I got fries, wife got sweet potato fries. I didn't care for the Zesty sauce (too sweet for my liking) but the Prohibiton sauce was amazing.. lovely smoky flavour but a nice kick from the chillis its made with. The meat literally falls off the bone when you break away a rib and it melts in your mouth. You don't need a starter! My only regret is I live on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. Will be back next time I'm in town.

A Chicago Establishment

Twin Anchors is a traditional Chicago restaurant with delicious food at reasonable prices. If you visit you have to get the rib and chicken combo. Amazing!

A five-star restaurant, in disguise

By David G |

Really amazing food, in a lively atmosphere, with solid service. We had a group of six on a Friday night, and we were accommodated nicely. I ordered the half-rack of ribs, and two of my friends were hungry, so they ordered the full rack, but neither of them could finish it, and they are big guys. I also ordered Manhattan and Old Fashioned cocktails, and both were solid and well made. My only gripe is parking... holy smokes, don't even try to drive here. Just rideshare. There was a sign for valet parking out front, but we never saw the valet. We ended up parking a couple of blocks away. The service was really attentive and spot-on, and much more on point than an expensive, fancy restaurant we had eaten at the night before. The only reason I can't give five stars is because in a town with Michelin starred restaurants, I don't want to give a false impression, but Twin Anchors is five stars in its category.

Awesome ribs, welcoming bar

By kellycollins1987 |

Found this on Yelp. Bartender picked me a beer based on my preference. I asked him if the ribs were good. He said "order them". I did and was not disappointed. He even let me upgrade later to a full rack. I liked their regular sauce. Not a fan of their spicy option. Too sweet. Love the ambience. Not the ritziest of places, but clean and the employees are super nice. Bathrooms were spotless clean. Bartender was the bomb. Guy with a beard but can't remember his name. Awesome dude. Going back tomorrow because I am here on business. TRY THE RIBS, PEOPLE!

Good, but not Blown Away in the Windy City

Getting to Twin Anchors from the loop is quite easy..take the Brown line to Sedgwick St., then walk north on Sedgwick for a few minutes. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon, and sat ourselves without a wait. Our server was prompt and courteous. The ribs (topped with the prohibition sauce), did indeed fall off the bone. The prohibition sauce and the ribs were good. Sides were baked potato and french fries, (both ok). A half rack is not worth the price. We enjoyed the historic past of the place, but our food expectations were set high because of reviews we had read prior to out visit. We would not seek it out again, but yet would not discourage the reader from doing so.

Great atmosphere - friendly locals

By s66blade |

We came both nights of our stay in Chicago - the first night we couldn’t get a table so just drank at the bar with the locals who could not be more accommodating. Having secured a table for the following night we went back early and drank with some more locals prior to our meal. The food was fantastic and the beer choice is wide. It really felt like a proper bar full of normal people - no poseurs wanting to be seen.

Unfair to judge due to take-out!

By Karyn M |

Fast and quick to pick up! Sauces are great and homemade. I truly prefer to eat in, but we were in a rush. Ribs were definitely not that meaty and were on the very small side-disappointing. Truly if we were eating there, I’m sure the rack of ribs would not have been served. Onion rings and coleslaw are always good, as were the boneless chicken tenders. I will be back in person!

A chicago classic

By mfs387 |

This place is Chicago. It is no frills just plain and simple, its just a place to drink an old style and eat some ribs. You cannot go wrong

Yum!

By Elizabeth K |

Food was delicious. I had the pulled pork sandwich and a side of creamed spinach; both were excellent. Also, I don’t know why more restrooms don’t have bifold stall doors – such an excellent idea for small spaces. That’s a small detail, I know, but I was impressed. Friendly service too. Overall, restaurant was a hit!

Great ribs

Failed to get in on first night we tried as too busy. We returned slightly earlier on another night and were not disappointed. The ribs were great.

Get the Prohibition Sauce

By Here2Sea |

The ribs here fall off the bone and are the best ribs in Chicago. Try the chicken also and don't forget the Prohibition Sauce. It's zesty and sweet. A little kick and just delicious. Try the pepperjack creamed spinach for an appetizer to share. It goes great with beer and wine. This is a very small place. Come to expect very fast food service and to sit very close to others. Check out the history of the films and celeb visits that have been here at this famous restaurant and bar. You'll find some really good craft beer on tap and they have a full bar to mix your favs. Right off the brown line and also offers super convenient valet for $10. Leave the car for a bit and walk down the street for a nightcap at Sedgwick Bar and catch the night games on thier TV's.

Quality Food in a Fun Atmosphere

By WanderingToesTiger |

Twin Anchors could be considered a historical landmark in Chicago by some. My husband and I visited just to experience it, and it was well worth the train ride. The neighborhood around Twin Anchors has a cool vibe, and the restaurant just feels like you are in a part of history. The food is quality (not wowing, but good). It's worth a visit for the experience. The restaurant is super close to Second City, so it's a good place to eat before or after a show. I've traveled across 4 continents and eaten at (and reviewed!) a ton of restaurants, hotels, and things to do. I would love to continue to share my knowledge about restaurants, things to do, and hotels with you as I travel to new places. Be sure to follow me on Trip Advisor to get my latest updates! Chicago Landmark

By LABill75225 |

We ate at Twin Anchors for the first time last night. We liked it and can see why it is a Chicago landmark. The place is small so you might have to wait. Good beers on tap. Good was solid. Ribs are good but not as good as you might find in places like Texas Service was excellent. Ambiance was fun. We will return.

Best Ribs Ever!

By MFC31 |

Twin Anchors do the best ribs! Let's not even bother debating that! It doesn't matter what sauce you get with them, they'll be so tender and full of flavour you'll be licking your fingers clean! The one negative of our experience was the baked potato as a side dish. It was dry and didn't add anything to rest of the plate. I had fries with mine and they were excellent. This place has some amazing history! Read the walls if you get a chance.

The very best ribs in Chicago

By Robert G |

It is no wonder that Frank Sinatra and many other celebrities visit this place when in Chicago. The ribs at this place are out of this world! I had the full rack with the prohibition sauce the ribs were unbelievably tender and the sauce had just the right amount of heat. The sides were the coleslaw and the onion rings which I highly recommend. The are addictive and I could not stop dipping them in the sauce. If you are in Chicago and like ribs this is a MUST!

Full. Zesty. Fries. Three words to Nirvana.

Just checking in since last review. Still our #1 casual go-to in Chicago. Have eaten here several times since...whenever we can. Actually drive down from northern burbs to either dine here or just pick up and go home. Clear friend and family favorite. The take-out travels well--and comes with all the fixings you love from the restaurant. If you are traveling to Chicago--eat here. No reservations, just show up, put your name in and grab a drink. Enjoy the history and ambiance of this true Chicago institution. True story: during COVID pandemic, we picked up and brought it up north to an outdoor beer garden where we could bring in food. Bartender from a good 15 feet away calls out---"Oh, man, is that Twin Anchors? I love that smell!" Mind you, we were 40 minutes away....distinctive. Stop reading, just go.

Great Local Pitstop

This place has so much history. Many famous people have eaten there and all of their pictures are hung on the wall, with their signature! The bar has a wonderful selection of local Chicago beers.

Great food

Great ribs as always. Sauces excellent. Family friendly. Arrive before 5 to avoid a wait. Great server, good recommendations for the kids.

Old school BBQ bar and tavern

By christian m |

The ribs were some of the most tender I have ever eaten. Meat literally falling off the bone. You could have eaten them with a spoon. Cooked absolutely perfectly. That said I didnt much care for their BBQ sauce - too vinegar-y Chicken wings were good. Cole slaw was delicious and baked beans were perfect. This is an old school sports bar. We went on a Sunday and the place was full, folks already drinking, eating and watching their Chicago Bears. Football is serious business in Chicago. I loved this place. Its a lil worn around the edges and the lighting is dark. But what a spot.

One of Sinatra's watering holes

By AndMH |

Came across the place by chance when using Trip Advisor to find a nearby restaurant. Quite a nice surprise. Unique old school interior. Seems to be best known for its ribs and bbq sauces. Since it was lunchtime I just had a burger, which was good but a little more done than expected. Next time will go for dinner and try the ribs. Service was very slow, they apologized, but I don't know if it was unusual and they were short staffed or not.

Great little place

By alainLondon44 |

We decided to go to Twin Anchors for some ribs. The place was very busy and we decided to have a drink a the bar while waiting. The barman was a bit grumpy and not very welcoming. The staff in the restaurant was lovely and very friendly. The ribs were very good. They could have been a bit warmer.

The best ribs ever

By supergordita |

It was recommended and sure ir was a very good recommendation. I am nite very fan of ribs but sure this were the best I ever eat. Nice place with a los of pictures of famous people that were there. A little bit overcrowded but you can also eat at the bar.

Awesome ribs but awful wait.

By KoalaBlue01 |

No one does ribs and wings as good as this place. Their prohibition sauce is liquid dynamite. 5 star good American fare at its best, but its popularity makes it often a long wait hence 4 stars. We were told 45mins but we waited almost 2 hours. At least there is a bar but it does get very crowded with people waiting. The management could do a much better job of managing expectations as the wait just got longer and longer and their timings estimates are generally pretty bad. I have been here 3 times so must be a glutton for punishment and their food. However just be warned that you could wait much longer than you are told. They don't take bookings.

Legendary ribs!

By Edward D |

This restaurant is famous for ribs and it’s reputation goes back to the days of Prohibition and even before that. Frank Sinatra liked to eat here with his pals back in the day. The ribs and chili are absolutely DELICIOUS. We will be back again soon..👍👍

An Institution

By Caroline B |

This is a neighborhood favorite. The pulled pork and creamed spinach were delicious. We loved checking out the autographed menus on the wall!

One of our favorites!

By imagine65 |

This place is known for its ribs, which are delicious. There is a choice of three sauces for the ribs (we always get zesty). But don't overlook the other offerings. My daughter doesn't eat ribs, but she has been pleased with the grilled shrimp dinner and the roasted chicken. I think the baked potatoes are the best around. Service is quick and friendly, and there are lots of micro brewery beer choices. Aces all around!

Fall-off-the-bone ribs

This restaurant seems to always be busy. Obviously because the food is sooo good! Service is fast and friendly.

Great barbecue

By Andyblueboy |

Recently visited with friends. We all had great barbecue dinners. Ribs and chicken were excellent with good variety of sauces and sides.... I particularly loved the spinach. Good selection of beers. Would return in a heartbeat. Great place.

Cool history and the best ribs

By guyboyd |

I love good ribs and so when I was about to take a trip for work to Chicago from California, I researched where I should go to get the best ribs in Chicago. I found great reviews on Twin Anchors so that is where I went, and I was not disappointed! The ribs are amazing, and I love the atmosphere in the restaurant. It is a small place, but with lots of cool history. Notably, Sinatra liked to come there. I sat in his booth the last time I went there (been twice so far). I will continue to eat there when traveling out to Chicago. Really fantastic ribs!

It was good, but.....

By Stuart B |

The food (specifically the ribs) were fall off the bone tender as described. The ambience was exactly what you'll have read in other reviews. It's literally a neighborhood restaurant and tavern that is packed to the gills to accommodate the constant stream of traffic. Service was efficient and friendly. However, if you're asked if you want to sit outside, do all you can to avoid the table for two immediately outside the side door. There's an awful lot of traffic, but what's worse, is that the dirty dishes trolley is right there as well. Our entire dinner was marred with the busy boy crashing plates while bent over with his bum practically touching our table. We could've stood not to see and hear that during the meal. It really does ruin the experience.

Worth the weight gain

By DiscerningDC |

Best ribs I've ever had and relatively well priced. Great place, Sinatra's favorite ribs, hole in the wall, fast service, great bbq - need I say any more.

Great place for Ribs

By John&Dese |

After reading a few reviews about this restaurant my wife and I decided to go there for dinner. The place was very full when we arrived around 7pm. It was going to be a 10 minute wait for us to get a table so we enjoyed a drink at the bar. We chose to sit outside as it was a lovely evening. We ordered a full rack of ribs to share with an order of fries and onion rings and a serve of their famous prohibition sauce. The ribs were great and the onion rings and prohibition sauce were fantastic. In fact we bought a bottle of the sauce to bring back to Australia. Needless to say we enjoyed our meal very much and the service was very good.

Hidden gem!

By Kathryn B |

Such a great hidden gem! My husband liked the ribs so much he ordered another round!! Loved the service and all the food! Also great with kids!

Reservations Highly Suggested

By Tinythefrog |

This is a very nice sit down dinner place but families are welcome. The food is priced according to the neighborhood which is just on the outskirts of downtown and so is pricier than a normal city neighborhood. That said, the food doesn't disappoint. The room drips with atmosphere. Pictures hang on the walls of famous visitors. This is a place to visit if you are a Sinatra Lover as it was known to be his favorite restaurant in the city.
