After going through dining options for our short Austin getaway before starting out for lunch, I checked out area options. This one stood out in the few reviews that were available. After my wife & I were nearly finished, she said, "well, you picked a winner with this choice. The meal included an egg roll, soup and entre for just over $7.00!!! There was enough for many couples to SHARE. We didn't, as I ate ALL OF MINE! My wife was unable to finish hers though. Location is an old shopping center, but the restaurant was very clean, & didn't smell of old grease or fish like many others I've been in to dine. Very attentive server, and quiet enough to dine and carry on a conversation. We WILL Go back!

I really enjoyed the food which was made fresh to order and the customer service was fantastic. I loved the fact the waiters were very patient with me because I could not decide what to eat, there were so many good options. My family and I went for lunch and my toddler can be hard to handle but our waiter was very kind and also funny which made her smile and laugh.

Three co-workers and I had lunch on a Thursday at Twin Lion Chinese Restaurant. Between us we ordered Chicken & Garlic sauce $7, Chicken & Vegetables $7 and Almond Chicken $7.25 off the lunch menu. Our meals came with soup, egg roll and fried rice. We ordered the hot & sour soup, egg drop soup and wonton soup. All four of us loved our meals. The restaurant was nearly full at noon. The service was good and our food was delivered quick and accurate. We will return.

At lunch time this place is packed but service is quick and the food is good. Parking can be a real problem. Large selection of lunch specials.

I travel to Austin intermittently, and found Twin Lion several visits ago. I have never eaten onsite--always takeout. There is a lengthy menu--kind of old school, and I try to try different things each time. This time I had the hot and sour soup, a nice value play and very tasty. I then had the spring roll (maybe not so Chinese), the cold roll wrapped with rice sheets. It was very fresh tasting with shrimp and noodles, and was a nice sized portion with two rolls plus a peanut dipping sauce. My main course was a Szechuan Spicy Duck (12.50), a large portion served over rice--the "Duck Cooked in 3 Styles, Steamed, Deep Fried and Sautéed with Chef's Spicy Sauce-Served w/Onions". Not that spicy and a bit sweet, but delicious. Yes, I ordered a lot, and ended up enjoying it for breakfast as well. If you want down the middle Chinese food, reasonably priced, this is your place.

We eat at this restaurant quite often and have never had a bad meal. The staff is both efficient and friendly. The food is a varied menu of oriental food and everything we have tried has been good, from the noodle bowls to the soups, to the traditional Chinese dishes.

We actually got take out. It was nice when I called that the host's English was great so I could explain what I wanted. We were greeted so nicely when we arrived and enjoyed our visit while we waited for our food to be packaged up. Our host even added a complimentary cup of soup for our first visit. The food was very good, loved the garlic sauce. Would have liked a little more chicken in the chicken with vegetables but the portions were generous. Looking forward to trying some of their other entrees in the future. Mary D

We've eaten a few times at this restaurant. It's always been good. The service is efficient, the food is freshly made, and brought to your table fairly quickly. I knew what I wanted today, but wasn't familiar with some of the names of the meals. Our server quickly told me exactly what dish would suit me. She was right on target! It gets very busy during lunch time, but the service is still very good. You might ask for a table away from the entry way, because some of the tables are so close to the cash register that folks trying to check out will be standing right next to your table. I'll also mention that I seemed there were quite a few folks there who may work around the area..which is usually a good indicator that a place is easy to get in and out if regularly.

Ambience, menu and food is very traditional for non-Chinese-American diners. The menu has many spicy and non-spicy dishes to satisfy all palettes. The won ton soup was excellent. Limited wine choice.

Came here with the family after shopping at The Arboretum. Been craving Chinese food and looking for that above average spot. Twin Lion was better than average but not very good. Service was fast and friendly. Food came out fast and was hot but not great. Decent flavor and menu choices. I would rate them as good. Still searching for that great Chinese restaurant like Flo's in North Scottsdale, AZ.

satay tofu and orange peel chicken - AMAZING - ill drive way up north just to get these

I darly hot and sour soup and General Tsos chicken. Both are really good and worth the trip. It has been a few mothns since I have been there but very pleased every time.

The kids wanted a buffet, but we all left thankful to find this restaurant! Awesome food and service! No one left disappointed. Highly recommend.

Casual neighborhood Chinese restaurant that offers consistently well-prepared dishes. Clean interior with friendly service. Our family favorites: Steamed dumplings are made by hand -these are not the same as the wontons in the soup. These dumplings have wrappers made by hand with a doughy-exterior with yummy pork/veggie interior. Note: You can call ahead and order these in advance since the steaming time is 30minutes. I also like their spicy green bean dish with white steamed rice. My husband usually orders the wonderful chicken and sometimes tries their curry specials.

Did not like the wonderful chicken. It was really sesame chicken. Too much breading and fried too hard. Sauce was too sweet. Hot and sour soup was so so.

Shared the $32 family dinner. Pu-pu platter, wonton soup, Kung Pao Beef and Moo Shu Pork entrees. Delicious wonton soup and the pu-pu platter was plentiful, hot, tasty. Good beef. My husband said the moo shu pork was great.

The three of us went there for dinner. The food was good, very typical Americanized Chinese food, with lots of fried stuff, strong sauce and color. The quantity was quite large. Nothing stands out.

We arrived and had to wait quite awhile. The baby grew fussy so, as soon as our waitress came over, I ordered an egg roll so he would have something to munch on. My daughter ordered flat noodles w/beef. She said these were not cut properly or had just stuck together but the beef was very tender. My son-in-law ordered chicken w/broccoli, which was average. I ordered chicken w/garlic sauce. My dish contained way too many bamboo shoots, many of which were tough & fibrous. Our egg rolls seemed to contain nothing but cabbage. The complimentary soup we chose was hot & sour. When we tried it, it seemed more like an egg drop soup w/touch of spice, not the hot & sour soup we are used to.I ordered plain tea, and I marveled at how bad it was. Really...how do you make bad tea? The waitress was busy and did not come by often. I had been looking forward to a terrific Chinese meal but did not get it. The children's meal of chicken nuggets seemed almost inedible so we left it entirely. The restaurant itself is traditional and very lovely.

Simply put, Twin Lion is the best Chinese restaurant my family and I have ever been to. The selection is amazing, delicious, and the prices are unbelievable. There is virtually nothing on the lunch menu over 6 dollars. For that price, you can get a bowl of soup, an entree with fried or steamed rice, an egg roll, and a fortune cookie. The portions are more than generous and the waitstaff is extremely kind. We have never gotten a bad meal from Twin Lion. I recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Stopped for a quick bite before heading into the city for our Haunted ATX tour (see that review on Trip Advisor, too). We chose this place because we wanted a sit down menu, and not a buffet. The food here is authentic, and fairly priced, even for the Austin area. The service was family-like, and we had plenty of leftovers for a midnight snack and breakfast. They are located in a strip mall, but my phone had no problem finding it. Try the egg drop soup, General Tso chicken and sweet and sour chicken.

Very good, small Chinese restaurant in NW Austin that has been there as long as i can recall... always good food, consistent, and very good service. Lunch specials very reasonable ($6 - $7 for most), and the Sesame chicken was very good; really liked that you can order brown rice for $1 extra... most nearby places don't offer that. Very friendly staff . A local favorite.

We've been here several times and have never been disappointed. The dinner for 2... $32.00. A meal you can't go wrong with. Everything included for this price. 2 main entrees, soup, pu pu platter, drinks and dessert. Food is fresh and piping hot. Flavors are wonderful and not lacking. Bring your appetite and when your full be sure to take the rest for later. A must stop if your cruzing down 183.

great lunch prices

Being quite a distance from my favorite Chinese restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area, I feel quite at home at The Twin Lion. I love Chow Fun (wide rice noodle), my staple whilst visiting the San Francisco Bay Area. Today, I had the Beef Chow Fun which was perfect, not dry nor flooded heavily with gravy. The won-ton soup had a very flavorful broth with a delectably delightful won-ton filling. When I walk through the doors of The Twin Lion, it is automatically assumed that I will order the Chow Fun but I will surprise them next time, I plan to order the Dragon and Lion Fight lunch special, served with soup, egg roll, fried rice or steamed white rice & fortune cookies. The Dragon and Lion (Shrimp and Chicken) intrigues me. The Twin Lion will be without a doubt on my favorite and most visited list.

A friend and I found this and tried it out. Great atmosphere, quiet dining and the Chinese food was authentic. Service was excellent. Egg drop soup delish and egg rolls freshly made. We shared sesame chicken and couldn't finish it. Servings were plentiful.

My family has been coming here for years. The service is always outstanding and the food is consistently tasty. I see lots of people take advantage of take out orders as well.

This is a really great Chinese restaurant! The fried/boiled dumplings are made to order and take 30 minutes (well worth the wait). The special Cantonese wonton soup is brimming with fresh veggies, chicken, pork, and shrimp - a meal in itself. And they really know how to cook fish. The sesame fried fish (tilapia) is yummy. They will adjust spiciness to your taste. Service is friendly and efficient, particularly during the week.

The food is good but not phenomenal, They take pride and truly care for the customers. The food is your average americanized food Literally, no Asian people were dining at the restaurant. That is how I usually measure the authenticity and overall taste of ethnic food at first impression. After the first few bites my suspensions were authenticated.

This is a nice little spot for lunch. I had the pepper steak with steamed rice and it was really good. Food came out hot and fresh. Highly recommend if you are looking for good Chinese food.

Perfectly fine, typical Chinese style food, tailored for Texans. Came for lunch and was not disappointed. The exterior of the restaurant could do well with a makeover to appear more attractive for hungry office workers.

A quaint, out of the way restaurant in north Austin, with really good Chinese food and fabulous service!

Searching for a Chinese restaurant in Austin, we selected the Twin Lion based on the number of excellent reviews on Tripadvisor. The decor in this this stripmall eatery is traditional Chinese-American, what you'd find in just about any such restaurant catering to those folks searching for standard fare. Service was good, although our server noted that it would take fifteen minutes to prepare the special eggrolls (I'll grant that we were having an early dinner, and thus the eggrolls were just being prepared). The eggrolls themselves come with a sweet dipping sauce, but they were neither the best nor the worst I've ever had. The three of us each had a different dish, all of which were plentiful, and the diner who isn't particularly fond of Asian food finished his meal and said it was good. I had the moo shu pork, which was flavorful and didn't require a side of rice. The menu is extensive, with lots of seafood, pork, beef, chicken, duck, and vegetarian choices, so diners should be able to find something to suit their moods. If you're in search of Chinese-American fare, Twin Lion will suffice, but for more "authentic" cooking, there's always Austin's Chinatown.

The Homemade Egg Rolls are so tasty. They recommend for you to wrap it around with Cilantro, lettuce then dip it in a sauce. Best eggrolls I have ever tried. I had the Chicken Almond fresh tasting the sauce is great. The service is good didn't want for nothing. I'm so glad we found it. I will come back for more.

All dishes we ordered were served so fast and the taste was as good as other Chinese restaurants, nothing extraordinary there. But the prices were really good.

We eat here at least once a week. It's close by and it's become our favorite back-up plan when we don't feel like cooking. The egg drop soup is good and consistent. We always order the chicken wings and they're delicious! I wish they delivered...but it hasn't stopped us from ordering.

Loved it the food Ashley is amazing and she is funny and nice beer is cold and ya it is clean and easy to get to

Your standard family owned Chinese restaurant. Tasty food, promptly prepared. Reasonably priced lunch specials

First, it took forever to be waited on, close to 20 minutes just to start with water. Once we ordered, our food arrived quickly. The Mongolian beef had more carrots than beef. The chicken with vegetables was limp and tasteless. Most of the food seemed like something you'd buy in the freezer section and heat up. It didn't seem fresh at all. The place is decorated in typical Chinese American fashion with white walls and no ambiance whatsoever. The floor near our table was covered in rice and crumbs, probably from the party before us. Our waiter was sniffling and wiping his nose. Need I say more?

We stopped in for a quick lunch, and found Twin Lion's lunch specials and the service were both very good. This is a small Chinese restaurant in a strip center in front of the HEB grocery store (at Braker and 183 N ); It's a long-time local favorite, and very reasonable prices (many lunches are $7 - $8.00, and include soup , egg roll, and the entree. I notice they have several Thai entree choices that are not on the menu, but written on a board (was tempted by the Pad Thai) . Also, daily specials are on a board when you walk in. Instead, we had Shrimp Fried Rice, and it had lots of large, fresh shrimp . It's just a very "comfortable" place for lunch... not fancy inside, but pleasant.

Cheap & fast American chinese food.

This restrauant was disappointing. Its a good value but bland. That suits kids but not adults looking for a firey dish. Siracha saved the day on these. They do include some extras with larger groups. We had crab rangoons for everyone and amazing fried dough to finish the meal.

We are regulars here, and eat here at least once a week. Their steamed dumplings are awesome...they take 30 minutes...so call ahead or be prepared to wait...New item menus are a yellow curry (try it with the shrimp) and it is incredible...my twin daughters (12) luv, luv, luv it! Then theres the beef flat noodle and the chicken pad thai...all of these three new dishes are served with a cup of your choice of soup...and are abut $10...Enough for 2-3 people with an extra rice or soup...there are three of us...we usually order 1 dish and an extra soup and that is perfect for us...anything else and we definitely have leftovers for my lunch...Twin Lion is one of our favorites...it is inexpensive, service (Chin) is very nice and always takes great care of us...It is a neighborhood restaurant, usually full, and I would recommend...highly...It is not a 'fancy' restaurant...but definitely worth going back (as we do often). So, give it a shot...

a little neighborhood restaurant lacking decor but very clean and great dishes. Would go here any day over PF Chang. Friendly service reasonable prices. It is a great find.

My husband found this restaurant at lunch one day and loved it. He and I went one night for dinner. The food is fresh cooked served hot and steaming. I had the Wonderful Shrimp and he had the Wonderful Chicken. Both are great. The egg roll was hot and crispy and delicious. The wonton soup was one of the best I've had. The staff was friendly and helpful. We now have a new Favorite Chinese restaurant.

We eat here a lot and find that the food is consistently high in quality and in taste. Wait staff is excellent and attentive. Their egg rolls are some of the best in town along with their hot and sour soup. Their entrees are not expensive(in the 7-8 dollar range), but provide a lot of quality for a small price. The kitchen has your food out to you very quickly and has always been hot on arrival. Sauces on various dishes are all well prepared and very tasty depending on whether the dish for beef, chicken or seafood. Try it, you won't be disappointed...

This is my friend's favorite local Chinese restaurant. I was excited to try it. I found the food to be average. I started with a cup of Wonton soup. The broth was tasty and wontons were good. As an entree, I had the Moo Shu Chicken. The plum sauce was delicious. The filling was average. Since I was the only person who was eating this dish, there was plenty to take home. I'm not sure that I will be back anytime soon as I would rather try other places first.

This restaurant is a hidden diamond. The food was delicious and the customer service was great, even though the facade don't say much. We asked for several dishes for sharing and all of them were really good, and the service was fast too. The waitress was also very friendly, and provided good recommendations for the dishes. He even offered to take a group picture from us. Definitely coming back!

This is mine and my family's favorite Chinese place. We absolutely love the Wonderful Chicken. I haven't found anything else like it across the US. Good food and excellent service.

Extensive menu featuring well priced fresh and flavorful food. Try the Wonderful chicken which is like a Sesame chicken. All white meat and tender. Also order Hunan Chicken which was very good. Best won ton soup but found the egg roll uninspiring.

Usually have at least one meal here when I am visiting Austin and I am never disappointed. The food is good, well cooked and arrives promptly. Nether do they have the nasty habit of bulking out meals with cheaper vegetables. The service is also well above average and everyone seems to be welcomed like an old friend.Writing this, I am already looking forward to my next visit!!

We were craving Chinese when in town, and this was a great stop. Very quick lunch, and most entrees were $7 (included soup, eggroll, and rice). Meat and veggies were both good (chicken wasn't gristly like it is in many Chinese places). Only downside would be the amount of sauce used- lots of brown sauce, too much really.
Still great, after all these years
Twin Lion has been operated by the same family for 30 years. We first went to Twin Lion many years ago but had not eaten there in quite some time. We got Twin Lion takeout recently and were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The Yang Fried Rice had lots of meat, the General Tso's was tasty, and the portions were generous. We will be returning to Twin Lion soon.
