We loved this place. We didn’t know what to expect. I asked for gluten free which means no soy. They customized my entire meal. Wonderful.

I don't even know where to start. After reading all the rave reviews, I was hopeful, but this sushi experience truly exceeded my expectations. The fish was incredibly fresh, melting in my mouth with every bite. Honestly, there’s not much to say beyond that—it lived up to my expectations. Highly recommend!

Another great meal at Uchi! Everything from the Hama Chili to Brussels Sprouts to various Nigiri are just perfection.

Incredibly loud for a Wednesday night. And no, none of our diners are elderly or need hearing aids. (I say that with no offense meant; I say that for context.) Perhaps the restaurant wants this type of vibe and energy. Our party of four had a hard time hearing each other across the table. Uchi is one of the loudest restaurants I have been to in recent memory, out of many different restaurants in many different cities. (The decibel level was comparable to The Girl and the Goat in Chicago, where in the early days diners had to shout across the table.) That said, if you want the same buzz, great, then this restaurant may be for you. Our server was very knowledgeable, but the service was very slow. We waited around 20 minutes to get our table for an early seating, even though we had a reservation. We waited over 30 minutes for the last sushi roll that we ordered, and by then we were no longer hungry. Some of the sushi dishes were interesting, but this was not the fantastic experience that we expected. We have been to many sushi restaurants across North America and abroad; in our humble opinion, the sushi here was average. I am aware while writing this that many others have had a much more positive experience. Putting aside whether or not the sushi deserves the accolades, buyer beware the noise.

We were there during the happy hours, the portion was quite small, taste is good. Service people are nice, it’s a very good place for the Japanese cousins. I would like seaweed wraps instead of the soybean wrap. I travel to Japan often, in Austin three of us for a light happy hour no drinks close to $90 each, just for your reference.

The atmosphere was very inviting at Uchi. You could feel the positive energy in the air and boy was it jamming inside. We had attended the Formula 1 race so it as a global environment inside. The staff was very friendly and you can see they take price in their work. The food quality was very high. I typically only get Nigiri or Sushi when dining out at a restaurant like this, but I decided to try some the cooked dishes and they were excellent as well. Uchi will not disappoint. I am coming back next month.

Get here before 6:30 for the “Sake Social” happy hour menu with tasty yellowtail & fresno chile, or salmon & kimchi negi hand rolls for $4! Their signature dish in my opinion is the hama chile: yellowtail, ponzu, thai chile & orange.

When we come to Austin, Uchi is a must! They serve some of the most innovative fusion Japanese restaurants in the United States. If you can get a reservation, "GO"...."GO NOW". My wife and I came with three of our adult children. When we sat at our table, the server, Omar, immediately said, "I remember you guys from last year. You ordered the vegetarian tasting menu." Not surprisingly, we were pretty shocked. As our adult children have different dietary preferences, we assured Omar that we would be ordering off of the regular menu. We ordered half of the menu. One thing was better than the next. There was nothing that we didn't love. Uchi is a really special restaurant. They've been innovating for many years and they have a very loyal following.....and we know why. If you have the opportunity to try it, don't miss it. You'll love it too.

Uchi is wondering and I far more enjoy the bar than having a table. Since no reservations are taken for the bar, arrive at 4:30 and get ready to wait. Outstanding service, great food and be prepared to have fun while you watch the chefs.

Can see why this place has a long wait. Service is friendly and food is excellent. Edamame was very tasty. Salmon belly was incredibly tender. Melted like butter in your mouth. King crab was very tasty. Pork belly mild tasting and not too fat. Salmon roll had a great spicy sauce. Most portions fairly small. Tapioca was the exception, portion was large. Honey toast was excellent. Place has excellent reputation, but it is not cheap.

It is a wonderful restaurant, the food is amazing and the service second to none.Very commensurate with its price and make you feel extremely special as a diner

Disappointing evening. The food was just ok. Fish did not seem as fresh as past visits. Service was timely but very mechanical. Restaurant was so dark it was difficult to see the dish. Afterwards, I was sick all night with stomach cramps. It’s the only place we visited last night. This was probably my 8th visit. Hope these guys can find their lane again.

Uchi was one of three recommended restaurants in the city for us to try during our short visit to Austin. Try as I might I couldn't get a reservation on short notice on Open Table. When I called and spoke with the hostess she recommended coming in close to 4PM during their happy hour. The food was insanely delicious. Jenny, our server, was patient and helpful with our selections. Please include Uchi on your must-do-Austin list.

After several years of procrastination we finally went to Uchi for dinner. Arrived about ten minutes early and had a five minute wait to be seated. Our waiter was Jodi and she was outstanding and did a great job of helping us navigate the menu and wine list and understanding the food. We had the ten course tasting menu and a bottle of Cremant d'Alsace which paired beautifully with all of the dishes. And the dishes were pretty consistently outstanding. Ingredients and preparation were consistently excellent. Plating was interesting. And service was outstanding. We were especially struck by two sauces that used mushrooms for extra body. Sadly I don't hear well in noisy environments and the detailed descriptions of most of the dishes escaped me so I will pass on describing the dishes other than to add that we had a nice diversity of food, including some beef. The biggest negative was the noise level but that calmed down as the evening progresses. It seems appropriate to note that in addition to valet parking they do have some self parking space. Highly recommended.

Uchi & Uchiko are simply the best. Food, atmosphere, service. Absolutely genius. A dining experience to remember and savor always.

This was one of my favorite Birthday dinners ever. The staff was incredible and recommending shareable plates for my birthday group. The mix of flavors and combinations are unlike any sushi experience I've ever had. I would highly recommend this place for any occasion. They also have a great patio area to have cocktails at while you wait for a table.

We arrived shortly before opening & were able to get a table pretty quickly. Their Sushi Social which is their "happy hour" was a good deal . We had both hot & raw sushi & found the dozen items to all be extremely fresh & well presented. Their way of ordering as you go keeps everyone eating & speeds up service while you can keep it coming til you've had all you want.

This is in my opinion the best sushi joint I’ve ever eaten at. Great environment coupled with great food, this is a must stop for anyone traveling through the Austin area that enjoys Sushi. Very happy we found this place. Will most certainly be a return meal on our next visit.

Delicious. Can’t say enough good things. We had a bachelorette party of 10 and they accommodated us immediately and service was great. Cocktails & apps were delicious - recommend akami te (tuna with watermelon); hama chili (yellowtail with Thai chili and oranges); pork rib & favorite app was the kinoko yabe (seasonal mushroom hot dish). All of the sushi and rolls were delicious. Would absolutely recommend and return.

Our best consulting partner visited Austin from Minneapolis for business meetings. We hosted them for dinner after a very productive year at Uchi which was a perfect end to a successful year!

Went with good friends and we all agreed it was a “magical” evening with outstanding food AND service! We asked our wonderful waiter Omar to bring out his (and the chef’s) favorites. We had a delightful experience and look forward to our next visit.

My husband and I travel often and have eaten at many fine restaurants. Uchi has to be one of the very best we have ever gone too. I never know the best items to choose at a Japanese restaurant. Our server, Lauren, quizzed us about our likes and dislikes, and then served us a number of small plates, all of them absolutely delicious. Every single one. It truly was a wonderful culinary experience and I would return in a heartbeat.

Our visit to Uchi was exceptional. We arrived at 4 when they opened and soon the place was full. Our waitress, Chloe, although 'in training', was very knowledgeable about the menu and encouraged us to try new things to share. We each ordered something different and were so pleased with our choices. The Walu Walu and Suzuki Yaki were fantastic. These two hot fish dishes featured escolar and brazino cooked perfectly. Reservations are a must and eating here should not be ignored!

I got to Uchi every few months. Hands down the best restaurant in Austin. We eat so much food but never leave feeling like we’ve eaten too much. Neither my wife or I eat fish, except at Uchi because it’s that good. And the 72 hour short rib is like butter melting in your mouth.

Totally deserves the hype. Food is excellent as is the service. Great for a large group to do the tasting menu together to try a little bit of all the best dishes. It’s more interactive that way and fun! Some of the items melted in your mouth leaving you wondering how the next dish would outdo the previous. It is a tiny restaurant with tables close together and it is loud.

Quality of the food is good but overpriced. Service was so so, the dishes comes out very slow, a lot of down time. Had a bottle of white and had to request for a chiller to keep it cold. For a restaurant that pricey, that should be automatic. Everyone is raving about how every dish comes out, the presentation, etc. Well, thats Japanese food, Japanese food is art, period. It does not have to be cheesy, VERY little serving for the price, you'll leave the place hungry. I guess for people who lived in the States all their life, its impressive but listen everyone, they all got you fooled! For someone who travels a lot and have lived in Asia (and frequent in Japan), its definitely a rip off. For the price I paid dining here, it should have been a Michelin star restaurant, but sadly, its far from that. We won't come back!

This was my fourth visit to Uchi even though we don’t live in Texas! You cannot go wrong with any of their signature dishes such as the machi cure or the hamachi nabe and every single thing we ordered was excellent. We got very lucky as Tyson was in the restaurant last night when we visited so we were able to meet him briefly- he was incredibly welcoming and friendly it was a nice top to a fantastic meal.

Plan ahead to dine here ..it’s popular and most of the time 8:30 pm or later on a Monday night is all you will find . It’s one of those places that calls emails and texts you 14 times to confirm you are coming because they can sell your table 5 times over if you no show. ? I don’t know why they places do this..it’s a pet peeve. You can walk in for the sushi bar but we have heard it can be 2 hour wait? Who does that? Anyway. Valet wasn’t good, slow , unorganized , unclear where to go and I was afraid we would be hit from the traffic on Lamar whole time we waited . See valet at odd duck..they do quite an amazing job there . Table wasn’t ready when we arrived after the 14 reminders..another pet peeve.. so we were asked to sit in wine bar.. it’s the corner of the sushi bar-cute area. No drink to be had..too busy, we were ignored. Finally someone came for us but we were ignored again for 15-20 Min so I had to flag down someone for water and a waiter . Once we got our waiter ..things started to improve.. the uchi salad was so interesting..eat w your hands daikon radish wrapped wonder-excellent. King crab was wonderfully done, hot stone w wagu beef at table was fun to cook Yourself and delish, Tuna sushi was about the only thing we had that was remotely something you know from reg sushi place but it was still original flavors w its own sauce. The deep sea trout presented like salmon but tasted mild and wonderful, we had a chili something wonderful. They were out of the cilantro chicken. We also tried a brioche toast desert w cashews , honey and praline which was divine. We were in and out in an hour despite some long lags to be seated and originally discovered and another decent lag for desert. We are not late night Monday night diners ..we had called to try and come earlier.. nope..so we wanted to keep it moving and go home. Food here was 10 In my opinion…and I liked how quickly and constantly food ordered would show up at the table with an nice description of each item and suggested way to eat( fish on tongue , while hot, with fruit) service solid 3…ambiance,wait, parking needed work. Loro is a favorite of ours ..easy to see how the collaboration yields such wonderful Food creations. Love to come again or go to uchicko but it’s a commitment and I will need an AARP time :)

Let's be honest. There are many fabulous restaurants out there and chefs who can make amazing and inventive meals but what really sets a place apart from the rest is the service. From the moment she greeted us Molly made us feel like we were VIP's and it never waned even after about 100 questions. She suggested we try the tasting menu. Great idea at a sushi restaurant whose menu can be so expansive and overwhelming. Each course was unique and delicious. She convinced the "sake haters" in us to experiment with her suggestions and wow were we transformed in to sake lovers! They serve them to you in a small, square box. So fun! All in all, a wonderful place to dine while visiting Austin for the first time. It is definitely the hip place to "see and be seen".

I have been a patron of Uchi for many years and always take my out of town business clients there for dinner. The fish is always very fresh, ingredients that can be locally sourced are. The days menu of specials are always fantastic and keep me coming back for more. The service is always wonderful even with the normal wall to wall crowd.

We went on a Sunday night with our 4 year old. Ambiance is very nice. We sat toward the front so we could see them making the sushi. Our waitress was nice and answered all of our questions. Only thing I didnt really care for was the amount of time between each plate. We ordered all at once and they slowly trickled out. Maybe waited 10-15 min between each plate. Overall it was a good experience.

I always think about eating at home before going out for sushi, but doing so ruins the experience. You want all your senses working when you walk into Uchi. It's like no other Asian cuisine you'll experience. Even the most discriminating palates walk out of Uchi, pleasantly satisfied. I recommend trying many items from the menu. Everyone order something different and everyone dive in. This way you'll know why you want to come back. You will not be disappointed. It's a culture of flavorful foods that pulls you in and you don't want to leave.

This was the best food in Austin from my recent visit! Amazing food and fantastic service. High quality and interesting dishes--will not disappoint. Make reservations far in advance!

It was a hot and steamy, August Sunday afternoon in Austin, The pool was crowded with beautiful people celebrating bachelorette parties and bridal showers. I was only in town for 24 hours but wanted to make the most of my time in town. Upon a glowing reco from the bartender at the JW Marriott, I headed out on my Lime motorized scooter to Uchi. I arrived slightly before 5:30 PM to find the place jamming with People and having to wait a brief time for single seat at the sushi bar. From the moment I sat down and looked around, I knew it would be worth the wait. The bar is well staffed with over six sushi chefs, each working in concert with one another at their respective specialties to deliver award winning and creative cuisine. My chef, Mark who is originally from Houston and spend time in the Chicago culinary seem, was terrific and guided me through the restaurant specialties including the foie gras sushi time Dinah my meal. Everything he selected for me, from the raw fish to the poached to the seared foie gras was exquisitely prepared and exceeded my expectations to deliver a gastronomical experience like those I’ve only had in San Francisco, New York and South Beach. Austin is at the peak of a culinary scene and Uchi is certainly not to be missed.

The food at Uchi is always spectacular. Regardless of whether you sit at the sushi bar or an individual table, you feel the buzz in the establishment---everyone is enjoying their food and having a good time. They have a few servers that have been there for awhile, and when you get one of them, it adds to the experience. This last visit, Samantha was our server and her knowledge of the menu and the dishes adds an additional positive element to the experience--I will ask for her again our next visit. We always appreciate the nigiri choices that you can get here that few others carry. Also, do not forget dessert---the Chocolate Candy Bar is divine.

Some of the best sushi in Austin. If you are staying at a hotel in downtown, it’s about a $10 Uber Ride to the restaurant. They offer a full menu of sushi as well as warm food. It’s very busy so get there early.

Amazing restaurant. Many wonderful options. Lives up to the hype. Service is knowledgeable and superb. Highly recommend. Call way ahead because of popularity

One of the best ❤️ Sushi Restaurants in ATX. Fresh and Unique. The wine selection is also premier. Highly recommend Uchi

Have been to Uchi 3 times, and will keep returning. As good as sushi gets in Austin, sake social is incredible as well. So many positives I could sit here talking about them all day. Only thing I would change: the Nigiri is too small, having been to some of the finest Sushi restaurants in Tokyo, the sushi pieces here are around 50-70% the size you would find at Tokyos best sushi bars.

My buddy and I decided we needed a night to crush ourselves in delicious food and celebrate the gift of friendship. Uchi was his choice ... but neither of us were prepared for the spectacular flavors and textures that graced our table. Sushi fan? In Austin. Treat yourself. Treat yourself well!

Uchi is simply the premier Japanese/suchi restaurant in Austin, with its sister restaurant Uchiko a close second. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. Reservations are a must and the prices are elevated. The atmosphere is vibrant but noise levels permit conversation

Food was really good, just think prices were high for the amount of food you got. Long lines and was a little loud in there.

Prices over too high lacking customer service and staff. Was not treated the way I was supposed to be treated. Almost cried because I was discriminated and was treated horrible.

Went last night to Uchi and what an experience!! John Sizemore, our waiter, was beyond excellent! He took over and navigated the menu for us. He especially treated me, a non-sushi eating person, like royalty. Picked dishes for us and pushed me out of my comfort zone gently. I trusted him and tried foie gras and butter fish. Both were delicious! Everything was outstanding so to the chef/chefs, job well done!! Thank you all for an unbelievable night with great friends and a new favorite restaurant! Too bad we are from the East Coast, but we’ll be back!!!

This is a special occasion place where it is easy to spend $200 pp on some of the fresh fish (and other more conventionally cooked dishes). If you care about the planet you will not be happy here, as just about everything they serve and the way they serve it is not sustainable. But, if you close your eyes and pretend it is 1983 (before we knew any better), you'll do ok. Bar is limited to beer and wine only but they do have some imported from Japan craft beers. Desserts were Asian influenced, but definitely american in style

My friend brought me here during what we're calling a "food tour" of Austin on a recent girls weekend trip. She made the reservations for us one month in advance and she ordered almost everything on the menu. I remember that we got the Brussel sprouts which I LOVED how they were prepared.... lightly fried and sweet with a glaze on them. Phenomenal - be sure to try those if you do nothing else. She also ordered tuna otoro which I had never had - the most prized part of the tuna belly and it's also the fattiest part of the tuna. It did literally melt in our mouth - I think it's something like $20 a piece and is market price. Everything comes 1-2 at a time on small plates and felt like tapas from the sashimi and sushi menu - unless you order a traditional sushi roll. So we had a rolling bevy of items to eat over about 1.5 hours. Our eel took the longest and ended up being removed from the menu (it took an hour). We both ordered dessert with my friend choosing a special item from the daily menu while I went with the trusted "Candy Bar" always on the menu. It was much larger than expected but wasn't amazing. The ambiance inside is small but cute, with a few seats at the sushi bar and booths and tables throughout. It's not large inside and so it felt a bit crowded and cramped. The bathrooms were nice and well-kept and clean and there is a really nice outside seating patio with heat lamps for you to wait by a small water pond for your table to be ready. Valet parking is also available. Our bill was about $200 at the end for the two of us and we did try a lot of sushi - but my friend ended up saying she'll stick to Uchiko in the future which has almost the same menu, more space, and is easier to get a table at. I'm glad we had this experience and I very much enjoyed it. This is a nice spot for really good sushi for a special occasion or date night.

Went look3for a sushi place. My colleague lived in Japan and we did a few stops where just a look at the fish and we truned around. So we ended up at this place. Full on a Wednesday night. We only waited 20 min a d were seated. Great staff, tried cold sake for the first and was good. We neded up trying quite a few plates. Only the first one was not quite what we liked but the rest was very impressive. Even the foie gras sushi was quite delightful. I thoroughly enjoyed this place. Quite worth it.

Best restaurant ever in Austin Texas, service and food where amazing, our host unfortunately i do not remember his name but he selected some options and we loved his opinion better than our own selection 😃

We got a res when they opened at 4:00 and coming during the hair hour time ended up being perfect. Got ton try a wonderful mix of sushi and fusion dishes that were exceptional

We've been to Uchi many times but not in a while. We returned for our son's birthday and had many of their delicacies and all were terrific. My personal favorite is Shag. The wait staff was top notch as are all of the staff right out into the parking lot. One of the best and consistently outstanding restaurants we've been to anywhere.

Uchi was firmly on my dinner wishlist for our Texas trip so we made advance reservations for Halloween. It's being described as modern, non-traditional Japanese though to me it seemed like Japanese fusion cookery with broader Asian and Western influences. Despite this being one of the swankier places the feel is casual. Staff were dressed up in hilarious Halloween costumes and customers, a young crowd in the main, were pretty casual, too. Decor is pretty minimalist though there is some floral wallpaper and it is rather dark. They were handing out free sushi canapes while we were waiting to be seated. The menu (s) is a bit overwhelming to begin with. Lots of choices, lots of unfamiliar ingredients. There was a huge separate vegetarian menu. Fortunately, the server was very knowledgeable and helpful. We had booked a 5 pm booking, which was eligible for the (sake social) happy hour dishes. We also got two complementary dishes - a type of mushroom ceviche and some yellowtail sashimi with chilli and orange. Food was good. The standout dishes for me were the deliciously meaty oak grilled escolar with candied citrus and the grilled romaine handroll with boquerones. Some of the dishes relied too much on rich sauces I thought: the yucca chips came with a heavy bbq style sauce, the prawn tempura came with a mayo mix, which is ok but tasted somewhat unrefined. More delicate flavours would have wowed me more. My cocktail with yuzu and sake was reminiscent of punch but a very tasty one. Dessert super tasty. We tried the honey toast with brioche, cashew praline and honey ice cream as well as the banana okashi with chocolate ganache and passionfruit-filled chocolate globe. Overall a lovely experience. Not the best food I have ever eaten but still a memorable dinner. I'm toying with the idea of heading to Uchiko, the sister restaurant, to give that a try. Free valet parking at the restaurant.

Went here for a birthday dinner, we had a reservation but ended up sitting at the bar for a richer experience. We ordered the chefs’ tasting menu- was excellent!! Was offered a few extra items for no extra charge. I highly recommend the Brussels Sprouts.

I always love eating at Uchi it’s so fresh and has a great atmosphere. It’s always fun to eat and drink at this restaurant.

I think I might be insulting Uchi by mentioning Nobu in the title. Not even close, Uchi is hands down better. What an experience! Great knowledgeable staff that can create a culinary experience to remember. We had a table of 9 and were truly amazed with all the courses. Put the courses in the hands of our server and she killed it. Try Uchi without a menu and you will be amazed. Put your experience in the hands of the experts.

What more can you say. This place is fantastic. We sat outside where it was nice and quiet. The service was top-notch. The waitress knew to bring one dish at a time and allowed us to finish each one before the next warm dish came. Everything we tried was fantastic.

I love tasting menus!! And i do it when ever a restaurant has one. I love smaller bites and sampling the chefs/restaurants stars!! But, this was my first at a Japanese/sushi restaurant and it was well worth it!! One thing to note... the way they do the tasting plates is a hybrid of family style and individual plates!! Would absolutely go back. Also, our waiter, a 4 year veteran, was terrific and noted that he was one of the newer ones. That tells me a lot of the culture of the business!! Well done!

Highly recommend Omakase which allows chef to have total control of your dining selections and the order they are served. The Austin location is like no other, the ambiance is authentic, service is highly attentive and not pretentious. High quality unexpected ingredients and flavors presented as art, wakes up tastes buds you didn’t know you had.

Excellent place for dinner, always full, that speaks of the extraordinary quality in the preparation of the dishes. We tried many dishes, each and every one of them excellent presentation and better flavor. The cool tasting dishes or the hot tasting or vegetarian testing dishes or which one is better. Extraordinary attention, unbeatable service and unmatched food. Negitoro, shag,Brussel sprouts of excellence. As I mentioned, we tried many dishes and they were all exquisite. The prices are quite reasonable. A place that I recommend with closed eyes. HE WILL LOVE IT. They don't carry diet sodas and they brought me one with a label written in the waiter's hand that said DIET. Great stitch!!!

Excellent service and food. For this you pay dearly. Outstanding place! A good one time place for a special occasion.

We went to Uchi for my husband’s birthday and it’s a small plate, share among the table type of place and everything on the menu looked good. Our server suggested we try the 10 course tasting menu. Sounds like a lot, but it’s not because the plates are very small. Our server went above and beyond throughout the night and we are quite confident we had way more than 10 dishes - likely closer to 14, plus dessert. First, let me say this is not a typical sushi place - it is a culinary experience and it is sublime. Every single thing we ate was absolutely delicious. The chefs here know what they are doing and they are doing it right. The wines we had were excellent and the Belgian beer was killer. Everything about this meal was perfect. Excellent service, excellent food and excellent drinks. Just make sure to make a reservation in advance because it’s busy. And definitely check out Uchi - you will be glad you did.

Perfect in every way... Crowded noisey and pricey but do it at least once. The food combinations are amazing. Everything fresh. Yummy

My wife and I love sushi. This restaurant is at the top of our list now. Lots of variation in their sushi. Server, John, was outstanding. He made great suggestions and each dish was great! Expensive, but worth it.

Dining at Uchi Austin was a culinary journey into the art of Japanese cuisine and innovative flavors. The restaurant’s modern and inviting ambiance set the stage for an exceptional meal. The menu was a fusion of traditional Japanese dishes with a creative twist, showcasing the freshness of ingredients and unique combinations. The tasting menu was an exploration of textures and flavors, leaving a lasting impression. The staff’s knowledge of the menu and their dedication to culinary excellence made the dining experience truly extraordinary. Pairing the dishes with sake and Japanese whiskey from the extensive list added to the overall delight. Uchi Austin is not just a restaurant; it’s a celebration of culinary artistry and a must-visit for anyone seeking an exceptional dining experience in Austin.

Stupid good. I am not a sushi person however I wanted to lean in and try something new. WOW. I was so impressed with the service and the flavors! I tried the pork belly (insert chef’s kiss!) and the wagyu! Would DEFINITELY go back!

We visited for dinner prior to Saxon Pub. I was unable to get a reservation so waited for about 30 minutes. Had a glass of wine while waiting , although server did forget our appetizer. We sat at sushi bar and had a personal chef. Each dish comes out individually, so meant to savor and enjoy without mixing flavors. We basically shared everything and it was incredible. We let the server and chef give us their recommendations and they didn’t disappoint. Not a dinner for a quick bite or standard sushi. Go to savor and enjoy.

Doesn't get much better than this - anywhere in the world. Each dish is superb. The way that they pair fresh fish with fresh fruit remains innovative, original, and delicious. By now, I've tried just about everything on their menu, and nothing has been disappointing. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are high, but well worth it.

My boyfriend and I were absolutely blown away by the food here. Each dish was completely unique and extremely light yet bursting with flavor. On top of that, our waitress was incredible. She gave the best recommendations and never felt rushed.

Uchi has great creative sushi and top level team service. You have your own waiter, but they all work as a team to clear your plates, etc. and ensure a wonderful experience. As a former waiter it was impressive, and seemed authentic too. Ambiance is a bit noisy but the noise then does ironically create some privacy. We’re always happy with our visits and despite being a long standing Austin institution, the quality in food and service is still definitely there.

My wife and I came to Austin and decided to go for something upscale. Love sushi so seemed like a great match. Arrived and complementary valet parking. Didn't have a reservation and had to wait about hour to be sat down. During that time, we were outside drinking. One of the staff members came around once and gave us a tasting of their brussel sprouts. Very good! They eventually transferred us to our tabel. Decided to go with the chef's selection. It's Market Price. It's a 10 course meal that's selected for you. We had a bit of trouble deciding what to get so we went with that. All 10 courses were great and some of the tastings we wouldn't have tried out on their own. Some of the dishes were a bit different and we were advised how to eat it. The fish in general tasted clean and fresh. Never had sushi like this before. Last meal was dessert and we were asked for preferences. Overall enjoyed the experience and meal.

I have been 3 times now, I am a huge fan of their authentic sushi dishes. As someone who lived on the coast near San Francisco, it is great to experience such fine fish inland. It is not cheap, but extremely authentic.

This is the place to go if you want to experience tasty, healthy, and authentic sushi; thoughtful service; and art of sushi making altogether. They offer exquisite desserts and drinks too!

My husband and I made a reservation at 5:00 pm on a Wednesday to experience happy hour/Sake Social. Great idea! As we arrived 15 minutes early, the restaurant was still setting up so we waited in the bar area. As an inviting touch, free hors d’oeuvres we’re passed while we waited. We sat at a booth in the back and the noise level increased steadily when 2 large parties we placed near us. The restaurant has attempted to mitigate noise with ceiling tiles and flooring. We didn’t have a real noise issue since we sat next to one another. Just a heads up if you have those hearing challenged in your party. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. We enjoyed the happy hour menu items including tempura fish (perfectly crunchy), market fish nigiri selection (trout and tuna), and $3 hot sake. The miso soup came out Luke warm but was efficiently replaced. I really enjoyed the Hama Chili with a subtle heat with several glasses of Prosecco. My husband enjoyed the mackerel sashimi. We topped off with the decadent chocolate candy bar. Overall bill $135 pre-tip. We highly recommend!

My husband took me here on our first date. We have loved this place for many years, it has never once disappointed us. The food is consistently amazing. We have taken every visitor from interstate or overseas here for dinner, and they have always noted how it is one of the best meals they have ever had.

It’s a little on the fancy side and slightly elevated in price, but the value for cost is amazing. Delicious and unique dishes along with a nice ambiance make it superb for both a casual dinner with friends or a meal for a special occasion.

Uchi has a great atmosphere for a (fancy) date night. I enjoyed a night of excellent service, and very thoughtful small plates. Each dish my date & I shared was better than the previous one, and an absolute delight to eat. The mixed drinks were also really great! Prices are high, but the atmosphere and quality & creativity of the food are as well.

I was at Uchi, with my daughter, in late December. Booked a table and living in south Texas, where good Japanese food is hard to find, I was looking forward to an authentic meal, as was my daughter who, in fact, was born in Tokyo. I won't bother with details but, I will never go back. The food was disappointing, very disappointing.

We discovered Uchi about 5 years ago while our daughter was studying at UT. This place is amazing! Believe it or not it’s better and better each time!! Also... I don’t know why, but the Houston Uchi is not even close.. Everything we had was out of this world!! GO PAY THE EXTRA $ It’s totally WORTH IT!!!

This is always voted one of the best restaurants in Austin. ...and for good reason. Amazing sushi and menu. Everything taste fresh and high quality. The service is impeccable and they know their stuff. If you want a good reservation put it in far in advance. If you can’t get in..their sister restaurant UCHIKO is delish also. Great with group of people to try a lot of different kinds of stuff.

Wow. This restaurant is amazing. So many delicious menu items that are out if this world. Do yourself a favor and please try this establishment out.

My daughter and I were visiting UT (Law) and went to Uchi as a treat after a long day. Incredible food, incredible service! We did the six course vegetarian tasting and didn't regret a single bite. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. I highly recommend Uchi!

I can honestly say this is some of the best sushi I have had! I went with my boyfriend and his parents, and we all shared a variety of their items on the menu. I am convinced that there is nothing on the menu I wouldn’t like! This place is pricey, but it is definitely worth it if you are visiting or for special occasions!

This restaurant was highly recommended to us from friends. We love sushi and this a James Beard Award winner. We were told they do not take reservations so get there when they open or be prepared to wait. Good information and spot on. We arrived at 4:30 with hopes of being seated a 5:00. Perfect.

Great vibe, experienced staff chose various menu items for us that kept coming in waves. Flavorful choices were made after we told the staff about our taste and they were SPOT ON plus we did not have to make tough menu choices . The food was excellent and I see why they are rated so highly. I would do it again in a second just like I did this time being a somewhat inexperienced Japanese foodie. No knife juggling, egg/shrimp tossing show here, thank goodness.

Visiting Austin with 2 friends from New York- as one is in the restaurant business she came with a recommendation for Uchi - We were told it would be a Life changing experience- It was - We sat out under a tree and had great wine while waiting on our table - every so often someone would show up with a taste treat from the chef - We were soon ushered in to the restaurant and greeted by Lauren- our server - after a quick discussion we opted to start with oysters and trust Lauren to order for us - best decision ever - food was unbelievable - so fresh and tasty - can not even tell you what all we tried- every thing was fantastic- if ever in Austin again- I will be back!!!! Yes it was a life changing experience-

If you want a special experience definitely go with the Omakase. You can work with the staff to let them know what you might want/prefer. Ask for the wine/sake pairing too! Went for an intimate birthday experience and exceeded our expectations!

I finally had the opportunity to try the famed Uchi and the short is it was okay. Coming from Southern California and having been all over Japan, I can say this is not as good as I've heard. They do have some good signature dishes, but for general overall great sushi... this is not the place. Difficult to get reservations, we just came at opening and fortunately they were able to seat us at the sushi bar. They are very friendly/attentive... a bit intrusive. It was nice how three different people introduced themselves and tried to go over the menu with us, but honestly, maybe back off a bit. Give us a chance to take in the ambiance. It feels very mechanical and aside from the sushi chef, the rest of the staff seriously lacks any authenticity. Everyone who came by just kept interrupting our conversation. To the wait staff... learn to be more subtle and read your guests. We started off with some simple nigiri - salmon, yellowtail and tuna. I feel this is the surest way to determine if the rest of the food will be good. The sushi was good... but not great. Most definitely not good enough to warrant the exorbitant prices. And have had sushi literally all over the world, I can't ever say I have had tuna nigiri with garlic. Not a good combination. The garlic completely killed the taste of the tuna. We did try the "Hot Rock" wagyu beef, "Hama Chili" yellowtail with thai chili and orange supreme as well as the "Hirame Usuzukuri" founder with candied quinoa. All were quite good. To finish the evening out, we had the "Honey Toast", a brioche, cashew praline with ice cream and the Jasmine Swiss Roll. Okay, simply skip the honey toast. It might look good, but there is nothing special about it. Far too salty. The Jasmine Swiss Roll was good. Overall, it was an interesting experience but not one I would repeat. First and foremost, inexcusably expensive. I've been to some very fine sushi restaurants with amazing fresh fish for half the price. And for the hoovering staff who couldn't seem to give us five minutes of peace and when they are bothering you, it's incredibly disingenuous. The sushi chef was amazing. He never said anything to us, but the moment I would look up to him to ask something, he was available. Otherwise, he just left us alone. Too bad the rest of the staff couldn't be that way. My server must have asked me five times if I wanted more beer even after I told him I didn't want any more. I feel "Uchi" is more like the story of the emperor's new clothes. Everyone wants to say it's good because everyone else raves about it. But it's simply okay at best. I have been to other sushi restaurants in Austin that are phenomenal so I know there is exceptional sushi in Austin... just not here.

This place lived up to its billing. The atmosphere and food was out-of-this-world fantastic! Old world Japan meets new world Austin. A must for any special person in your life to impress. I loved everything about the place and my business partner did as well. I will be back. Jason

I expected the food to be good, and it did not disappoint! The service was the best I have experienced in a restaurant in a long time! From the moment I sat down at the the bar to wait for my friend, to getting our check, the staff was amazing. My friend has extensive allergies and the staff was able to make recommendation and substitutions so that she could enjoy dinner. First class all the way!

An absolutely incredible experience. Complex and creative flavors in every bite, every dish we tried was perfect. Fresh and unique combinations in every bite, wonderful service and ambiance.

My husband and I have had this on our list of Austin restaurants to visit for years. Why did we wait?! One of the most memorable meals we've ever had in the United States, it was that special. Every dish was fresh and unique. It is on the higher side price-wise but we felt it was worth every penny. At Uchi you don't just get a meal, you get an experience that you will not forget.

We had a perfectly marvelous meal at Uchi last night. We've eaten at many Japanese restaurants in our life, and this place is definitely top-notch, unquestionably among the very best we've tried. We loved the tapas style, which meant we got to taste many things. Our server was very helpful, very friendly, and gave us great advice about what to try. The atmosphere is lively without being too loud. We are eager to go back again and thought every aspect of this experience was fabulous, fun, and amazingly tasty!

We love sushi! We try it wherever we travel. A friend told us to go to Uchi and so we did and it was WOW! I rarely even say wow once when I go out to eat and Uchi was a 5 wower! 5 WOWS! We had the chef's tasting, I think it was called and man o man I just feel so lucky to have trusted Uchi to deliver the goods. I cannot wait to come back the next time we visit Austin.

This place never disappoints. Made reservations for the wrong day and they were able to fit is in. The food is amazing. We will be back.

Excellent twist on high end sushi, had thé happy hour tasting menu, It was outstànding. Service was friendly. Really Nice balance of Flavors texture dishes. Good drinks too.

The food was fantastic. It was a well thought out menu. Wine selection was good. Lacks the fifth star as our seat (reserved well in advance) was in the bar area that was busy with curbside deliveries.

Personally I think this restaurant is just a bit overrated. For the prices I would expect good size portions of sushi but I thought they were on the mean side. We have eaten sushi in many places and this does not compare to the best in LA or NY. Some of the flavour combinations were good but overall it fell short.

The best part of the restaurant is the authenticity of the dishes. A huge selection and not tasteless duplicates of the real deal!! Love the lighting, the certificates of excellence and awards on the walls, and most especially the bar where you wait for your seat. Word of caution: book before you come!! Always packed and hard to get a table if you just walk in. Soothing outside seating area nice touches

We had an amazing evening at Uchi celebrating my husband's birthday! Even though we could only get a late reservation time the staff worked so hard while we waited to be sure we were updated on our table's status, brought by tasting bites and were so polite-great service. And the dinner was top-notch, each bite was better than the last! A perfect chorus of flavor that created excitement at the table as each course came! Can't recommend enough!

One of the best places in Austin. I loved the fried milk and the Zere Sen roll. The Walu Walu is also amazing. Will definitely be back!

Literally the worst sushi of my life. Disgusting horrible! I like the sushi at China buffer better! I took a date here and we got what the waiter recommended. We both hated everything we got and I spent $150. Like four roles and they all tasted like crap. Never again

Especially nice for sushi happy hour. Very incredible chefs. Very amazing creative menu creations. Always an awesome choice.

We ate on the patio. By a busy road , so it is noisy. Valet parking offered. Very innovative fusion Japanese dishes. The fatty tuna was like butter. Hama Chili a highlight but WAY over-priced for the amount you get. Four of us ate and the bill was over 300.00 and we left a little hungry. Great quality , great service, just be prepared for the bill

So we have been eating at Uchi in Dallas for the past couple years and have never been disappointed. Figured it was time to try the original. Very busy place. We made qa reservation two weeks out on the Saturday after Thanksgiving and 9:15 was the earliest we could get. We sat at the sushi bar, which is always fun. The food of course was fabulous. As always, we made our way through the menu looking for things we had not tried before. It was easy to do here as they had a more extensive menu of specials. We always seem to start with the brussel sprouts because they are just too good to pass up. We tried the oysters for the first time and they were good, although a little difficult to eat with chopsticks as they were covered in some sort of Asian ham. Tuna, Amberjack, Bream. All good. Had the fatty tuna and it was unlike your everyday tuna. Of course, finished with a piece of foie gras sushi with a sip of sauterene. Fabulous last bite. So on to the service. We found it to be just a little too laid back. This is not an inexpensive place to eat and we hoped for a little better. Just like the way the Dallas location is run and the way the staff there is trained.

This restaurant is very good, especially with the sushi, which is a delight for the palate and there is nothing the same or similar to this magnificent and glorious flavor.

Superb every respect. We are vegetarians. The meals are always great. They are creative and provide excellent service. Although we don’t splurge on this very often the saying, “you get what you pay for applies here“.

Simply amazing and perfect in every way. We had a large-ish group of 7 and enjoyed a relaxed dinner on a saturday night when the restaurant was busy. The service was impeccable and we felt we were treated like we were the only table in the place. The staff were incredibly generous and personable. The food was nothing short of extraordinary.

John their manager was absolutely disgusting to me. I was already having a rough day with my grandmother in the hospital and having a disability. He mocked me and treated me super poorly. I will never dine here again, this was one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. I always come here and it was always a pleasant experience, but not with him. AWFUL EXPERIENCE. He asked me in front of EVERYONE why I did not tip, after he treated me poorly. This man. Wow. You ruined an iconic place for me in Austin.

I don't eat raw fish but I had some amazing dishes in the restaurant. Definitely worth every penny! One of the best, if not, the best restaurant in Austin. And this is coming from a hard core New Yorker!

Massively popular sushi spot in a hip spot on South Lamar. Family of four had the perfect start with kyra kyuri's at the bar. Outstanding barman! Once seated, the appetizers hriame usuzukuri, wagyu carpaccio, suzuki yaki, pork belly and brussels sprouts kept the party going. Wrapped up with an ungodly amount of sushi. Not cheap but certainly worth the price.

This was one of the best meals we’ve ever had. We were 2 couples - the men ordered the chef’s tasting and the women (one who isn’t a sushi lover) ordered al a cart. Every dish was fabulous; the drinks and service were also incredible. We had to dine late to get in at the last minute, but were thrilled that we experienced it!

We went out for a special occasion and wanted something 'different'. We chose Uchi and were we ever rewarded! The food was outstanding, selection totally unexpected and service impeccable!

Our excellent server, Sam, was ready to answer our menu questions, however as soon as she mentioned the Omakase option, we were sold. Omakase is a 10 course chefs-choice selection of the most delectable, unusual, creative, sublime tastes arriving one by one at a leisurely pace. Sam asked some specific questions to direct the chef either towards or away from specific ingredients. We had favorites (shima aji crudo) but everything we tasted was delicious. Champagne was a delightfully clean companion to this memorable meal.

Not really sure what all the hype is about this place. We’ve tried to dine here many times while in town but have never been able to get a reservation. I’ve eaten a ton of sushi in my life and this was good it just wasn’t exceptional......especially considering the price. Service was very good as was ambiance I just wasn’t blown away. Maybe my expectations were high. Portions were small and price high. If I’m going to spend big $$$ for a dinning experience in Austin I’d prefer dinning at Eddy V’s

Delicious food, excellent service, very nice music. I definitely recommend it. Delicious coconut chicken just like shrimp roll

Extremely well presented and amazingly good quality sushi. Innovative menu. It's always busy and sometimes hard to get in so I recommend a reservation and/or you can show up at 4.45 and go for Happy Hour which starts at 5pm. I highly recommend!

I visited Uchi based on my clients recommendation, and I quickly discovered that neither had ever tried sushi. My two clients were spoiled with Uchi’s sushi, the fish quality is some of the best I’ve experienced, and the flavorings and presentations were delicious and unique. My clients are local to Uchi are they’re now fans of sushi and plan to come back with their friends and family. I didn’t have the heart to tell them that few sushi’s places will ever compare with Uchi. And I almost forgot, the service was extremely attentive and helpful with recommendations, ensuring the sushi virgins received the perfect pairings for their first experience. I highly recommend!

I have lived in Austin for 17ish as years and can say, without a doubt, that Uchi is by far my favorite restaurant in Austin. The service, the atmosphere and, of course, the unforgettable food is so melt in your mouth delicious you will remember what you ate until your next lucky visit.

During our first visit to Austin, TX, me and my sister wanted to find a place to get high end sushi service. Uchi was at the top of the search, and for good reason. We arrived in a pretty packed restaurant but didn't have to wait long to be seated. The atmosphere is low light with red accents, as most Asian restaurants are wont to incorporate. The prices were expected of this level of service and cuisine, but sometimes, the service went above and beyond. Our server, Omar, was very knowledgeable with each dish we had a question about. We ordered quite a lot, but each dish was a lovely tasting experience. This menu is for the adventurous and it inspired the palate as well as the eyes with its elegant presentation. The timing in between each dish being served was perfectly paced. There's a tendency to present all the dishes you've ordered so that you have a smorgasbord of options in front of you, but this way of pacing was greatly appreciated. It allows patrons to enjoy and digest and reset their anticipation and appetites for the next dish. We even got an extra dish; a delightful surprise compliments of Omar. And he even included a Hungarian dessert wine to go with our dessert order, informing us how well it pairs with the sweetness. Uchi - a Japanese word that connotates the meaning of 'Home' - is well named, as this restaurant gave us that feeling of having amazing food in the welcoming comfort of home, albeit a very luxurious one. One of the very best dining experiences in Austin, and we recommend it to anyone visiting ATX.

My visit in his place after reading the reviews and many of various Austin publications you’ll realize how far off they are. This place is ridiculously expensive, entirely unconventional, and not worth the effort or the wait. From the moment you walk in the door you will experience a level of rudeness that you will find nowhere else at least in my book. Drastically overrated. Don’t believe the hype.

Chef's "just trust me" was delightful and delicious. With perfect pairings of wine, beer and sake. Every dish was a surprising treat.

Overall, my experience at Uchi restaurant was mixed. The ambiance and service were commendable, with a waiter who tried to accommodate my preferences despite the unavailability of certain items like the Asian plum vine. However, the substitution with sake felt mismatched, and the absence of soy sauce with the sushi was unexpected. The classic unagi dish was disappointingly dry, reminiscent of being baked rather than the expected succulence. While the restaurant's contemporary twist may appeal to some, particularly those fond of sushi with mayonnaise, it fell short of delivering a truly traditional asian dining experience.

Our first visit to Uchi. We were not disappointed. High quality Sushi and Sashimi. Beautiful presentation. Interesting Sake Cocktails. We particularly enjoyed the Uni, Eel, and Yellowtail. Good servuce, although it seemed the kitchen was a bit overloaded. Our only complaint is pricing. Just a tad overpriced, even for quality Sushi and Sashimi. Worth the experience, but not to be a regular stop. Parking available. Reservations a must.

I love Uchi, and I'm not even that into fresh fish. They have so many delightful tastes, and every dish is unique in its own way. It's the perfrct date setting, not too fancy (after all, we are in Austin!) but definitely a romantic scene. Grab a cocktail and sit outside while you wait for your table, they even have nice heat lamps in the winter. I highly recommend trying as many smaller bites as possible so you can get the full experience. Go raw, even if you don't like seafood. I was shocked at how tasty fresh, quality seafood can be when prepared properly! Yes, it's pricey, but I believe they have a decent happy hour. Bottom line: it's so worth the splurge, everyone needs to experience Uchi at least once!

We had the Chef's Tasting which is a 10 course (I think that's how many). Each course came out timely and by the end of the course, we were quite full. The service was great too! The only downside is, it was so loud and busy.

My wife and I celebrated her birthday yesterday at this restaurant. I don't even know how to describe the experience because calling it great would be an understatement. Mike was our server and he was just fantastic. This is one of the first times that we were as overwhelmed with the experience as we were with the food. The pride that the Uchi team takes in taking care of its customers is spectacular and I'll say it again...the food was, well the best sushi experience out of hundreds we've tried. Kudos to you Uchi Austin.

I went to school in Austin and visit frequently not only to see friends but to come here. Tyson Cole is a genius. His protege Paul Qui won Top Chef handily and has opened his own set of restaurants. For all those who say it was not enough food- sounds like you are more the burger and fries type anyway. This is not that. I recommend going from cold to hot when ordering up your culinary adventure. They often do a fun spin on seasonal oysters and their wine and sake list is impeccable. Plates are shareable- about an order per 2 people. The service is something all restaurants should aspire to. I believe you need approximately 10 years experience before even getting an interview. The lighting, ambiance and attention to detail even make waiting an enjoyable experience.

Finally dined here after many attempts with no availability. It was a pleasant experience but food and service only average. Not bad at all just underwhelming. UChi has long been the number 1 restaurant in Austin but we did not discover what all the hype is about. The prices were RIDICULOUSLY expensive. I have enjoyed much better sushi for 1/3 of the price.

Food is awesome ! Veggie options Joe the waiter is warm, knowledgeable and the best recomendator of great dishes ever. The restaurant is wonderful and the service impecable !

Lucky enough to be in Austin Texas for a couple of hours and visited this amazing sushi restaurant. The middle of Texas might seem a peculiar place for a great sushi restaurant but Uchi real delivers. Awesome food. Great service. Can’t fault it.

4 days in Austin, a real surprise, so good we went back again and now have the recipe book back in London.

Edamame was great but the service was so bad. We would never come back...poor man agent. Poor service.

Not sure why a couple of reviews thought it did not live up to the hype. I thought it was well worth it!!! High end sake, amazing food, and John was an excellent server who set us up with a meal of a lifetime. Everything was fabulous, but our table’s favorites were the beef cooking stone, snapper, and butter fish. If you can afford a high end dinner, GO TO UCHI!

Quite simply incredible, chef has an amazing pallet, the best sushi we’ve had outside of Japan . Great service too, and not pretentious

Super loud but Molly made up for it! We got to the restaurant and we’re seated at the back near the bathrooms at a two top table. There were two groups of 8+ people that sat around us. One table was completely drunk and loud as ever. We were really disgusted and almost contemplating getting up and leaving. When Molly came to our table she apologize profusely. We had never been here so wanted to try different things. She recommended the chef‘s tasting six course. It was unbelievable. We are kind of picky fish eaters and everything was absolutely phenomenal. Molly brought us an extra or two For her apologize in our dining experience. We would probably not be back if it wasn’t for Molly. We drink sake and let her pick our sake and she did not disappoint. The sake was interesting because it came in a wooden box. We did not know it was Japanese traditional thank you to overflow your cup so sake runs into the wooden box. We gave away two wooden boxes that we didn’t drink our sake out of LOL It was a fun night but definitely not a place you would go for a date or a romantic dinner.

We were excited to try this restaurant - not disappointed! The menu is complicated. We were lucky to have one of the most professional and helpful servers ever - Jessica. She was more of a "dinner guide". Our group included a vegetarian, pescatarian, and omnivore - I won't list our dishes but I will say we all loved everything we had, including dessert. The decor is modern, seating comfortable, we were seated just a few minutes after we arrived for our 7pm reservation. The restaurant was completely full but service was timed perfectly - service was basically flawless. Not inexpensive but priced very well given the quality and complexity of the food. Wish we lived closer!

I had a 5:45am flight connecting to Costa Rica the next morning. But this was my birthday and we were at Uchi. Great sushi and my vegetarian friend always likes the options available to her also. Wonderful dinner. Apparently 2 bottles of champagne (highly recommended with sushi) and I still caught that flight. Consistently great sushi. Pricey but the liquor tab skewed the bill. Worth it.

My first time was almost perfect, with just 1 or 2 things holding it back from a 5/5. Fast-forward to 2 years later, I go again, this time with my family, and man, what a meal. I got the "Server's Tasting", which is essentially a system where the server keeps bringing you portions based on parameters that you set at the beginning, until you tell them to stop. Everything she brought me was delicious, tasted like nothing I had ever had before. I have never had to THINK about the food I was eating, to really slow down and process all the different nuances and flavors. I've also never been told HOW to eat something, in the sense that the food was meant to be experienced in a very particular way in order to maximize enjoyment. And I will say, the price was not as high and I was expecting. High end cuisine with excellent service, I can't say enough good things about this meal. Even better than last time I was here, 5/5.

Truly memorable food -- unless you arrive before 6:30 pm when the noise is so mind-numbing you can't remember your name, much less the food.

Uchi is one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The ambiance is a relaxed luxury. The decor is elegant yet not stuffy. The staff tends to every need. Tyson Cole the executive chef will exceed your expectations in every way. It is almost impossible to create a space that is perfect for a date or a business dinner with out of town execs. If in Austin this has to be at the top of your dining list. On yea, did I mention it is the best sushi this side of Tokyo?

We travel to Japan frequently and eat sushi all over that country. If you cannot afford to go to Japan, eat at Uchi! For our money, some of the best sushi outside of Japan. Exceptional service, they know the menu and are helpful if you are not certain what you want. Each item is separate so you can run up a bill easily - but it is worth it. Get there about 4:30 p.m., check in with front desk, the get first come first serve - with a limited "Happy hour" menu; you can also order off the main menu. You can also do reservations. The sushi is simply delicious! Try the saki. Nice atmosphere, quiet background conversations (once in a while someone gets loud), but overall great experience.

One of the best restaurants, hands down, in the world. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with Uchi. Unhesitatingly recommend, and they are doing well even through COVID. I had my concerns, as they (what I've heard and fits the freshness) receive much of their product fresh shipped in from Japan. Last time we went was just like the first!

We were visiting from Houston and the place was very busy on a holiday weekend. The staff at the front door were incredibly rude and arrogant. In particular, an individual by the name of Christian had an appalling attitude and sarcastically stated that we would have to wait an hour and forty five minutes for seating when the restaurant in fact closed within the hour. There was open seating at the bar that we should have been able to occupy as it was first come first served, but the staff refused to allow us to sit down. In Houston this kind of attitude would never fly. I would never return to this establishment again. Outrageous!

I’ve heard great things about this place but I was not so sold initially. I love Japanese cuisine and seeing other Asian ingredients/style and dishes on the menu was a little unsettling. I tend to be a purist, you see but I decided to give it a try anyway. It did not disappoint. They have an extensive food and drink menu but I mostly ordered sushi plus their scallop crudo and the walu-walu. Everything was terrific but the walu-walu was a standout! It’s on the pricey side but very well worth it.

We're sushi lovers, and this food was the most unusual and creative we've ever had. While waiting at the bar for a table, we chatted with the very friendly bartender, Nicolette. When we asked what dishes she would recommend, she actually whipped out a menu and began marking her favorite items. We followed some of her suggestions and were not disappointed. Once at our table, our server, Felipe was very knowledgeable and professional. The service was timed well, as there were many small plates. Our suggestions would be: the spcy crunchy tuna makimono with cucumber avocado and chili, the black and white sea bream sushi, and the negitoro usa maki, which is fatty tuna with salsa macha, and tosa zu. Actually, everything we had was excellent, and we would definitely return to Uchi if we're ever in Austin again.

I think I suffered from too high of expectation. I was expecting amazing sushi, and I got a lot of stuff that was not about the sushi at all, but about everything but the sushi. They rely too much on sauces (and a lot of mayo, which I hate), Rather than let the sushi shine, it is buried in other stuff, which becomes the main event, vs a flavor enhancer. The atmosphere is great, and the wait staff friendly, but if you are looking for a sushi experience, this is not it.

Service was slow, food was delivered randomly with no thought to flavours (sashimi came with sticky meat) and just didn’t live up to expectation after reading all the reviews. It was so loud that it was hard to have a conversation, the water tasted of chlorine and there was no bottled alternatives.

Wonderful experience & yes our waiter was John Sizemore. (We did not request him, but my husband knew of him through the reviews.)He is Wonderfully entertaining & very knowledge about the menu. We took every suggestion we recommended & were very happy with all of his choices! Also, the interior decorating was very comfortable & pleasing to the eye.

Over the top great food and service . Top quality was evident with every bite. Everything we had was great . A must visit if you are in Austin .

I’m not one to experiment with crazy fish. But I accepted the servers recommendations and loved every bit of what we ordered. We liked the shishito peppers, crunchy tuna, shrimp sushi. Definitely need reservations if you will wait for at least an hour.

This place was an incredible experience. Make sure you make reservations way in advance! Brussels and Hana appetizers are delicious! So incredibly flavorful. The spicy crunchy tuna roll along with the shag roll were my favorites! The server was friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was low key and enjoyable. I definitely recommend this place for the sushi lover! Warning: do not come expecting to get California rolls. This is a culinary experience!

My favorite aspect of a visit here is the presentation. The food is wonderful, although a bit overpriced, but it’s the way it’s presented that is always a joy.

First time dining here. Three in our party. We tried a very wide range of items. All the food ranged from very good to incredible. The short rib was sublime. The foie gras was incredible! The chu-toro and o-toro were excellent. Service was fair to poor. 30 min in between drinks. In no rush for much of anything. Food was great but after $600 in sushi we left and went to Shack Shake because we were hungry. Still worth the effort and money to do it once. Once.

Weary of Texan BBQ, I ventured to Uchi looking desperately for reprieve. Despite its inland location, this Austin delight serves smashingly fresh sushi and a diligently prepared array of savoury japanese treats. Sit kitchen side on the stools, and you will interact with your own dedicated 'chef' who will engineer a balanced menu based on your fancies. I was seriously impressed. Well worth a visit.

The interior looked nice but due to COVID all of the seating was outdoors, which was fine. The menu is extensive and a bit confusing for a first visit but the staff was very helpful. They have a happy hour menu which is a good value. The hand rolls with snow crab were excellent. All of the food was beautifully presented and the staff explained each selection in detail. Very creative sushi, lots of menu options. Some locals consider it pricey but I thought the food was fairly priced compared to other Austin restaurants, especially considering the quality of the food.

To listen to the hype, you would would think this is the best sushi restaurant between New York and LA. It is almost as if no one dares to say that the king has no clothes. The sushi was barely edible-second tier restaurants in New York are far superior. The dipping sauces were bland. The service was spotty. Our server brought the courses in a haphazard fashion. Sometimes we would get a course without our dining partners getting theirs and vice versa. Extremely disappointing.

My husband loves food. He just does. And he loves Sushi. Me, not so much. A friend recommended this place and when we walked in I was like " Great, sushi. I thought we were going to a Japenese place." But like a good sport, I decided I would give it a try. Our waiter was excellent. I explained my concerns and told him I did not know what to order. He said, "Let me order for you." So I did. He was right on point with my taste, the food he selected was awesome. My husband was in heaven. He is very discriminating when it comes to food. He said that was one of the best meals he has ever had. And our waiter was so entertaining as he kept bringing more selections. We spent two hours there. The portions of each selection are small, but this allows a sampling of several items. The place is not cheap, but we felt it was worth the price for the experience.

Another fantastic visit to Uchi in Austin. Food was fantastic, service was excellent and the overall feeling from our evening was one of satisfaction. Choice of food on menu is great, food is impeccably presented and has such great flavors.

Very very very overpriced for very small portions, and not that good. Very tiny pieces of salmon with a cucumber, not any better than HEB sushi, but triple the price and half the size with real long wait times. The waiter was nice though.

Every bite is a surprise. The flavors, the combinations, all perfectly balanced. The service is top notch, we enjoyed eating at the bar and ordered vegetarian and fresh fish dishes. Be sure to reserve in advance, excellent value and a most memorable experience.

Was visiting friends who had just moved from San Francisco to Austin. I had recently read an interesting article about this restaurant and was excited to try to go. My Austin friends secured a reservation and were excited to go as this is one of their favorite places. SF folks were giving me a hard time that I was going to Austin to eat Sushi and not Barbecue? I argued what could be better than raw fish, chilled sake, and ice cold beer in June while visiting Austin. I am glad I followed my instinct as we had an absolutely fantastic evening. Excellent and friendly serrvice...well curated Sake list, and impeccably prepared and innovative sushi menu. Will definitely go back next time I am in Austin. Highly Recommended!

Uchi is an unbelievable Sushi restaurant. We had the 6 course Omakase and added 2 additional courses. Service...excellent. Food....outstanding!!!

My boyfriend and I have gone to Uchi an embarrassing amount of time in the span of only a few months. Which says enough. I thought I didn’t even like fish until Uchi! Yes it’s pricey but do yourself a favor and treat yoself.

Best sushi ever. Get there early if you wanna seat at the bar to watch the show. You will not go wrong

Our favorite restaurant in Austin. Also great for vegetarians!! Expensive but worth an occasional splurge. Good service. I highly recommend it!!! Valet parking attendant was rude during this visit.
Best meal of my life
We had the best possible experience at Uchi! David was our server and was super knowledgeable, but so was every single person who interacted with us there. Everyone was also very, very friendly and kind! Happy hour is a great value, and the restaurant feels very laid back. No snobbery. It was our anniversary and they even gave us each an extra piece of nigiri as a gift. I would go back in a heartbeat. This restaurant definitely lives up to all its hype-- the food and service are both incredible!! The pacing is meant to be slower-- each piece you order is like its own course. The whole place is an experience. If you're wanting to be in and out in half an hour or so this isn't the right place. Relax and enjoy the people you're dining with!
