Good food lots of fun

By Mark K |

We took my daughter, her husband and our grandson here for a late lunch, this last week. Everything was we tried was good the tamales could have used a little more stuffing and less masa. Everything was good, just not great except for the tamales which were not very good at all. Service was a little off as well had to ask every time for tea refills and several things we had to ask for several times before they were brought to the table. We had heard about the chocolate pinata and thought we would give it a try it was fun and quite good but rather expensive. Needless to say the grandson loved it. Would only do that again for a special occasion.

One of the best Tex-Mex places to visit that has been around for about 30 years

By jadore748 |

My husband and I visited this place during brunch hours (around 1130am) on a Sunday. Since it was rather early, there was no crowd and we were seated immediately. They are doing some renovations (after hours) to the place but it was just fine for us and not noticeable. Instead of brunch, we decided to have Tex-Mex dishes. My husband had the Benito's platter as he has a fondness for Chile Relleno! It was very good and quite filling. I normally love to eat Tacos Al Pastor and so ordered the closest thing I could find which was the Carnitas Tacos. The pork was crisp and well seasoned. However I like to have some sauce on it and so our wonderful waitress Kristin brought me some red sauce to add to it if I wished. In the end, I decided the meat served the way it was came out better along with the cilantro and onions on the tacos. I was also given a side of Guacamole. Everything is made fresh in the restaurant every morning including their warm salsa which they serve with fantastic thin, soft but crisp chips upon being seated. I am usually not a chips and salsa person but even I was addicted to this batch! The manager Jeremy stopped by and chatted very nicely with us. All in all, this is a lovely place with great attentive staff and we will definitely recommend to all if you are in the area of Love Field Airport in Dallas or anywhere in the heart of Dallas. They serve a great Pinata chocolate dessert which we read about but did not order this time. Will reserve for our next visit! I saw a waiter making table side guacamole for the couple seated next to us. This would be a great place to bring out of town visitors to try Tex-Mex food. Their meats are very tender and cooked to perfection outside on their grill. Give them a try - you will not regret it!

Never dissapoints

By ivycC658YD |

Their chicken fajitas are to die for!! The service wasn't great but granted they were crazy busy! Thankfully our waiter was very kind and did try his best to help as quick as possible. The food makes up for any slow service because it's so good!

Go for the fajitas and margaritas!

By rleewg01 |

We got the Guadalajara which is combo fajitas with bacon wrapped shrimp and we upgraded to the filet mignon. It was so delicious with the Mexican butter. The swirl margaritas are my favorite with the contreau floater. The best part of the meal was our server Matt. He was extremely friendly and made the overall experience great. It’s our goto restaurant for Tex-Mex!

Uncle Julio's has outstanding Cheese dip

By spurgeony |

We had lunch with two friends and everyone thought their food was excellent. The salsa and chips were excellent. The cheese dip with beef was Outstanding. The Margaritas were excellent. The beef enchiladas were also excellent.

Pricey, so-so food, loud atmosphere, chocolate pinata was a highlight

By Susan W |

With all the advertising Uncle Julio's does, I had high expectations here, and sadly, they were not met. They say the food is made from scratch, but much better standard Tex-Mex can be found at any number of restaurants in Dallas (all of Texas, for that matter). Parking is extremely limited, although valet service is available ($$$), The atmosphere is loud and the tables are too close together to be comfortable. We made a 6:30 RSVP for a party of 4 for a Tuesday night, and were seated right away. Our server was attentive and pleasant. The food was just so-so though, and I REALLY wanted to love this place. Chips were greasy and bland, beef enchiladas were greasy. One of my dining partners had the cheese enchiladas and was pleased that they were generous with the cheese. Two of our party of four ordered the fish tacos and the spicy tuna tacos and they were pleased with those. So I guess the more creative dishes get the nod here, but the standard tacos and enchiladas were disappointing. We did order guacamole with our chips, pre-meal, and it was fresh and zesty. Since this was a birthday celebration, we ordered the Chocolate Pinata, and it was fun and delicious. However, I doubt I will return to this restaurant. It was too pricey - $157 total bill for a party of 4 was a bit much (that did include 4 adult beverages and tip). Just another note: they use a tablet device to checkout, where you review your bill and adjust your tip right on the device, and slide your credit card right there. So no one walks away with your card. And you can choose to email your receipt to yourself. All in all, I was disappointed. There are better options in a big city like Dallas. They need to step up their game IMO.

Great food!

We went on a Friday night and were seated immediately. The waiter was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. Food was great. Will definitely go back the next time I go to Dallas

Nice ambiance

By asisoyyq |

I think they have free valet parking, I didn't use it. I thought the food was a little pricey, (cowboy queso to dip $11dlls). The food was good, sopa de tortilla, not so much. The service was great.

TexMex done right

By Hoosier Traveler |

Ate dinner here after recommendations from family living in Dallas. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. It was an average crowd for a Thursday night, and we did not have to wait to be seated. The waiter was friendly and patient as my party of 5 tried to get our orders together. We talked and snacked on the tasty chips and salsa while going over the menu. I decided on Juanita's Platter as it offered a variety. It was very good. It included a spicy tamale, taco, some kind of beans, rice, and enchiladas. I topped it off with a drink called The Swirl. It's a mix of frozen margarita and sangria. Delicious! Warm tortillas were brought to our table with butter. I was unable to finish my platter, but it was just as good the next day with the tortillas. Our waiter was attentive and even sparked a nice football conversation after noticing my Colts sweatshirt since it stuck out in Cowboys country, lol. It was evening filled with good food and good company.

Great Food and Service

By Diann C |

Delicious food, good service and festive. Loved the cheese enchiladas. Guac is delicious also. Excellent margaritas to meet everyones taste.

great grilled meal

By Mike and Amanda R |

I ordered the Grilled Jumbo shrimp - they were stuffed with pepper jack cheese, a slice of jalapeno, wrapped in bacon and grilled. Absolutely delicious. The sides of beans and rice were not that awesome, but didn't even need them with the delicious entree. The smoky flavor was really tasty, didn't make it taste like eating ashes, it really added to the taste. Parking area was under construction, but we were able to get in and our with a decent place to park. Yum.

Top notch Tex-Mex

By MDNied |

Everything is perfect except the parking. Love the chips and salsa. Carne asada is wonderful. Enchiladas are perfection. Service is great. One of our favorite places to dine.

Great margaritas!

By James M |

Stopped in to have a quick drink and some chips and salsa. Had a great bartender and she suggested that we try their special drinks. We ended up staying for three specials plus table side guacamole and it was incredible!!!

Great TexMex!

By GlobalExec |

I’ve eaten at this chain before (good food, great margaritas) but never in the Dallas Metroplex. With a large interior dining space and a heated outdoor patio, this was a perfect choice for a cool November night. I had the DELICIOUS carne asada and the gold margaritas are quite addicting. Outstanding, attentive service on the patio and a very pleasant dining experience.

Team visit/13 year old birthday

By Beth T |

Wow! The food was fresh and amazing! The restaurant told us we could eat as soon as we arrived —no waiting for a group of 20. The wait staff took excellent care of us. The manager stopped by to check on our table. The guacamole appetizer flavor was the best I have ever tasted! I had beef fajita nachos and they were tasty. The hot sauce was fresh and tasted as if they had just made it! Prices were very reasonable! The others at the table had drinks from the bar and did not have to wait long for any refills.

Quick sit-down tex-mex dining

Stopped in this weekend for a quick lunch. I had the shrimp quesadillia which was good. Service was prompt and efficient.

Great Tex-Mex and Great for Families

By Julie R |

My family and I had an opportunity to gather at Uncle Julio's on a Saturday night, and it was a terrific time. Everyone enjoyed their dishes, including the Chile Relleno, Crispy Tacos, new Agave Cheese Grilled Chicken, Enchiladas, and frosty Margaritas. While we didn't try it, we saw several orders of the Chocolate Pinata being delivered (and devoured), and we will definitely be ordering it the next time! We were just too full after our meals to indulge in dessert. Reservations are accepted, but they do not seat incomplete parties. Additionally, on a Saturday night, your table may or may not be ready at your reservation time so be prepared to wait. It was also very loud in the restaurant because it is a concrete floor, so keep that in mind if you really want to catch up with others. It can be difficult to hear each other, and those with hearing aids may have a hard time.

Fell Short Of Expectations

By Dave S |

I heard good things about Uncle Julio's so we decided to go there for dinner. We were a party of 5. We were greeted right away and seated right away...this was a Sunday for dinner. Parking is limited at this location. 2 of us ordered "adult beverages", 2 of us ordered water and one ordered tea. One of the "adult beverages" was a frozen margarita. It was basically a frozen drink that came out of a machine and some added flavor at the end. Not very good. Ordered various dinners but two of us ordered the 3 taco plates with rice. Both of us ordered beef tacos and I specifically ordered "beef and cheese" only. I told him I didn't want any veggies on it (no lettuce, tomatoes or beans...anything). We waited a while for our meals and my daughters taco plate came out with hardly any meat on it and the first bite into mine there was all kinds of veggie (of some kind) ground into the beef and tasted awful. I tried picking thru it and did the best I could but it really didn't taste that good at all. The rest of the party seemed ok with their orders...for waiting as long as we did, thought the food would have been "hotter" but it was luke warm at best. We received the bill and it was almost $95.00 for 5 meals (mostly taco meals, one being a single taco) and 3 "paid drinks". Thought that was extremely high for what it was. Only bright spot....waiter was fantastic.

Good but could be SO MUCH BETTER

By Jon M |

First time here. They had some kind of issue with both the AC and the grill in the kitchen. You could walk thru the restaurant and feel both warm air and cold air blowing from vents... couldn’t get chicken or beef for fajitas cause the kitchen was having issues... I had the shredded chicken quesadilla with cheese which was pretty good. The gaucamole they served was really good. Service was average at best and they only had a few tables....I’m sure they were just having a off day.... The salsa was interesting. Had a “Smokey” flavor to it. Nice place inside and they have patio seating which is where we should have dat

A nice dinner

By RiceWP |

Friends of ours from Texas recommended we try this place for dinner and it was very good. We started with a pineapple guacamole that was very tasty but we had hope to have it made at the table and it was not. My wife tortilla soup which she enjoyed and I had a combination platter that allowed me to try different Mexican food also very good

Great Guacamole, Skimpy shrimp

By bouncebackmom |

My colleague picked the restaurant. Valet parking, so I had high hopes. But as soon as I saw the plastic tablecloth's I knew we were in for anything but a fiesta with class. But I gave it a try. Explained to the server that I had food allergies. She made a note and said she checked with the kitchen. We ordered the tableside guacamole because I could select what went into the dish and avoid onions and garlic which would make me ill. You may wonder what I was doing a Mexican restaurant if I have a food allergy like that but I have always found that a good restaurant can work around anything. And besides, my colleague selected the restaurant so I went with it. The avocados were fresh and ripe, but I was concerned about some of the other ingredients and asked the gentleman who was preparing the guacamole if onion or garlic were present. He barely spoke a word of English so I tried my Spanish. He assured me that there was no garlic or onion added to my guacamole. But when he presented it to me I immediately knew that it was loaded with garlic. I would be in big trouble if I ate it. He was long gone, so I flagged down the waitress and explained the dilemma. She also told me that he had prepared it without garlic. I asked her to take it to the kitchen to check. Sure enough it was confirmed that there were massive amounts of garlic. Strike one. No apology. Strike two. She seemed annoyed rather than apologetic. So she sent over a new guacamole "fixer"Who did an excellent job! Now for the entrée… After much discussion, it was determined that the only thing I could consume on the entire menu was shrimp. I colleague ordered the fajitas. She was pleased, I was not: The shrimp were overbooked, scrawny, naked and lonely on a huge fajitas platter with not even so much as a tomato to keep it company on the plate. At $17.99, the price was big but the portion was shrimpy. What a ripoff. The fruit salad that was served on the side to be a few days old and the waitress rarely showed her face. The service with some of the worst I've experienced ever. At the end of the meal, I cut my losses paid the bill, and sought out the manager to let her know about the experience. I was not looking for a refund but merely recognition. And I was trying to do them a favor because the next person with allergies might not be so lucky. A few words with her and I could tell why the service was so bad. The place was absolutely packed and she has a little interest in the missteps that nearly cost me a trip to the emergency room. So uncle Julio I have one word to say to you… Adios!!

Very good food and service!

By Metropop |

A group of 9 of us came here late one Friday evening. 5 of the 9 were children. They accommodated the group quickly, the service was excellent even though the restaurant was very busy. The bar service was quick and the drinks were cold and delicious. The table side guacamole was delicious and plentiful. The chips never stopped coming. The Spicy tuna tacos were delicious with rare tuna that wasn't too spicy. I don't remember what everyone else ate, but there were absolutely no complaints or to go boxes. We will be back next time we're in town.

Nice variety of Mexican food with good quality ingredients

By AppleStud |

They've revamped the building and now it's less loud than in the past. You can expect a short wait since it's very popular. Their drinks are great and plenty of good healthy food options along with standard fare. I'd say their variety of fajitas is stupendous.

Great customer service

By Charles B |

Was there with a large group quick service great food and I wish one of us had a birthday because they went overboard when someone had one, everybody it the place would sing. Food was great and whatever you needed they were there to take care of you. Will go back

Awesome lunch stop

By Leah M |

This place is amazing. From the fresh salsa and chips from the moment you sit down to the lunch special fajitas...just amazing. The Habanero Bacon Wrapped Shrimp is one of the best appetizers I've ever had! The service was super and atmosphere was pleasant. It gets busy so plan ahead!

Overpriced Average food

By dwebster898 |

My wife had been wanting to go here because of the "Chocolate Pinata". We decided to go for her birthday. The atmosphere was nice and comfortable. Staff was not rude but didn't go out of the way to make us feel welcome. Adult drinks are very expensive and I would question if they even had any alcohol. My mojito was tasty but not even a light buzz after two. We shared the beef fajitas. The tortillas were fresh but the meat was bland and not cooked well. We ordered the Chocolate Pinata for dessert. It is a neat idea and the fruit and chocolate tasted good, but for the price it's definitely just a one time deal. Overall, I was not impressed with Uncle Julio's. I will not go back and would not recommend it to friends.

My favorite Tex-Mex place, period!

By bfitworld |

I have been going to this particular location of Uncle Julio's for approximately 19 years, and it became my favorite on the first visit. That visit was my first taste of ceviche and my first Swirl (a frozen combination of margarita and sangria) and they won me over. The flavor of their beef fajitas are excellent. I still try other Mexican food restaurants, because I'm forced to go by unfortunate friends, but none compare. I can't say that I've tried everything on their menu, because in all this time I tend to stick with the my basics. Ceviche, tortilla soup, beef fajitas, diablos camarones, but I have tried their grilled vegetable platter and even that was excellent! Unfortunately, I do have to say that, at some point, they have changed the recipe for their tortilla soup and they have added some spice that I don't care for. So, that's disappointing. When I first started going to Uncle Julio's, the place was not quite as loud as it is now, that came with a remodel somewhere along the line. Something that many restaurants currently strive for, I assume to make it seem like a lively place. I've tried several other Uncle Julio's locations as well, several that have closed, and I always seem to get excellent food!

Excellent Tex-Mex...with great daily specials

By terrycarlson2018 |

Lover of Tex-Mex...the Uncle Julio's I love the most is on Lemmon in Dallas..the others are fine too...but for some reason the food they crank out in this restaurant is the best.

Expensive chain restaurant

By orlandofoodlover18 |

The salsa is smoky flavored, which I've never been a fan of. The table side guacamole was shockingly bland. The entree portions were pretty small for the price, especially for Mexican food. I had the pork tamales as my entree which were the best part of the meal. Others at the table thought the food was just ok. Many better Mexican options in Dallas.

"Yummel"

By Regina |

Love the food and drinks here. Service is always quick and great! Warm-Homemade tortillas!!! Love everything they serve!!! Try Sunday brunch, delicious! Also try their specialty drinks!!! My mouth is watering just thinking about it! Keep it up...your great service and delicious food Uncle Julio's!

Great food and service

By Ray S |

Have eaten at Uncle Julio's night before OU-TX game many times (for luck, so much for that). We have always had great food. Chile Rellenos are wonderful. Good Margaritas. My wife always gets pints of salsa to go for us and family. Only dish with disappointment was fish tacos. Will continue to eat there when have the opportunity.

Bad food, bad service, and overpriced.

By Eric S. |

I will start off by saying that I love TexMex food and that this had been my own experience, that might differ from others'. This place, was just a place I will not set foot on ever again. I paid around $20-$25 for one of the worst TexMex Enchiladas of my entire life and well, a beer, which helped swallow the flavor. Additionally, I've been to other TexMex restaurants where you would be served much better quality Enchiladas than these for even less. 3 Enchiladas that tasted like a scoop of blended canned food, greasy crunchy rice and not the best service. My advice, start training the staff in paying more attention to allergies or food restrictions. It takes seconds and delivers high quality service. And please, change your recipes for more genuine, less greasy and more tasteful, full ingredients, less the type that tastes processed. The atmosphere can be improved as well. I will not set foot here again. Way overpriced for that type of meal and the serving. Service was promising... I will continue trying other places in look for better quality in their food and service.

Average food bad service

By Rodrigo A |

Used to come very often long time ago And this time food was not very good and the service was bad. Hope it was just one bad day

Good experience

By Frank N |

Nice decor, friendly, attentive service. Food was served quickly and professionally. Guacamole was tasty, fajitas were excellent as were the ribs. We were too full for dessert

Just a Comfortable place to eat....

By Seayeaitch |

These guys have years of experience in providing great food freshly prepared, the staff are friendly and courteous, the food is just so special beautifully presented and prepared, seamless service a joy to visit if you are not familiar with Mexican food then this is a great place to visit and be guided through the menu......

Has gone WAY down hill

By scottdfw99 |

We arrived at 11:45 on a Sunday. 7 tables were occupied. We were told we would have a 15 minute wait due to them being unable to retain servers. When we were finally seated, the salsa was very, VERY hot. I've been a customer of this location for 35 years and have always loved the salsa... not today. I ordered chicken fajitas and the chicken was so dry I could only choke half of it down. The flour tortillas were soggy and reminded me of mush a baby had teethed on. The prices are outrageous now... $20.50 for fajitas for one is WAY overpriced. When the waiter came to clear our table, he noticed I hadn't eaten much. I told him that I'd never had a bad meal at Uncle Julio's until recently, and today's meal was inedible. He said he would let the kitchen staff know. He made no offer to comp my meal or have the manager speak with me. So, they got their $20.50, but they lost a 35-year customer. I won't be back.

Great food!!

By naynay2three |

We had the table side guacamole and it was great! We had steak and chicken fajitas and they were delicious!! My favorite place to eat!

Awesome piñata dessert

By edshortt |

The food was good (steak fajitas) and the alcoholic drinks were also good (specially the swirl of margarita and Sangria) . For dessert we ordered a Piñata made out of chocolate and plenty of fruit inside and on the tray below comes with sauces of caramel, chocolate, whipped cream and others .. Everybody got a fondue fork and had fun digging through the piñata. Will come back

No.

By FamilyMan1963 |

Chips and salsa never replenished. The table was not bussed at any time. Butter ask for was acknowledged but never delivered. House margarita had little or no tequila in it. A second margarita was also seemingly void of tequila but this time had so much lime in it it was undrinkable. The food was a solid average good. Nothing excellent, nothing poor. Items that were supposed to have a jalapeno on them did not arrive with that grilled jalapeno. On a Sunday evening the restaurant was about 30% full. They may be on their way out. You can't get away with this kind of mediocrity in the Tex- Mex food space in Dallas.

Dallas Phenomenon

By ronk1000 |

The best, the best, the best Mexican restaurant on all counts. Been here since "forever". No matter what you order it's over the top. Nacho chips are always light, thin and crisp. This time we had steak quesadillas. Fabulous. Also ordered steak fajita. Equally fabulous.

The best Tex mex everything I ever ate! Can’t recommend it enough. Everything was wonderful.

By Matt T |

It was the best salsa I’ve ever had in my life the best rice and beans the bacon rack shrimp was absolutely delicious. The tacos were great Emily our server was great. The food come out quick can’t say enough about this place. You got to come try it out.

Disappointing experience

By Deanna F |

We arrived here at 4 pm to meet friends for an early dinner. There were very few people in the place but it took quite a while for someone to come take our drink order. When we ordered our food it took a long time to come out which we discussed considering how they were not busy and appeared to have enough staff. When our food finally arrived, my enchiladas were as cold as if they had been put on the plate and not heated up at all. My cheese sauce and the hatch green chili sauce were congealed and very cold. I didn't tell the waiter about it for fear of what might happen to my food when it left my sight. When we were ready for another round of drinks we literally had to flag down the waiter to make the request. I will NOT be returning to this restaurant! I've had better food at a fast food place.

The best Mexican food in DFW

By boymomdfw |

We love uncle julios. They have the best Mexican food in town. Love their fajitas! Service was excellent today. We've been here countless times and always had great food and great service!

Delicious

By Sue H |

We had carry out from here while visiting the Dallas area. We ordered filet mignon fajitas for two, with queso and guacamole. It was a delicious choice. The chips are fresh and tasty. This is a dish/restaurant we will visit again every trip to Dallas. They had great food, fast service. Very happy with our choice!

Girls night started with a bang!!

By Leticia M |

Much needed momma’s night out.. so first stop was here and we were seated quickly(reserve on opentable). Our waiter Juan was very attentive. The tableside guacamole was fantastic fresh and yummy. My dish camorones Diablo hands down tasty. Other ladies had flautas, enchiladas and let’s talk about the margaritas. If you down here this is a must stop.. enjoy!!

Ok

We went to this place for lunch, it was ok, attention was good and food was good, we will be back next time for some more don Julio

Eating at Original Uncle Julio's

By Texan1110 |

The restaurant is beautiful inside; however extremely noisy. I ordered the Juanitta's Platter and it was below average. I was looking forward to the tamale and it was so spicy i could not eat it. The rest of the food - seasoned okay, just nothing to want to repeat. I asked my husband the next day about his food and he said it was not good - he ordered beef enchiladas. Our waiter was not very attentive and we had to wait a long time on our bill. And food is very expensive.

Gross fajitas

By brownard |

This place is the man I have not been to in about three years and it has went down the tube. Ordered steak fajitas blood and they came out rare and bleeding and that is so gross. The food was overpriced and it tasted awful.

Not What It Used To Be

By Good S |

I used to enjoy this location, but it has gone downhill fast. The salsa was like water, the guy serving the food was rude, and the entrée mediocre. There is another Mexican restaurant just across the street that will get my business going forward.

Margaritas and Guacamole - the place for it!

By Lisa G |

The restaurant was busy, but clean. The service was slow. We had the table side Guacamole - defiantly worth it and we shared an order of beef fajitas which were tender and flavorful and it was enough for two.Try the Grapefruit Margarita! I don't like grapefruit, but loved it! Even with the slow service, we will go back.

Can't Miss

By Cw H |

The atmosphere is great. Very lively but we could still have a conversation at our table. The service is outstanding and the food amazing. Prices were very reasonable, especially for food that good. I'd recommend using the free valet parking as parking is a premium.

Terrific Tex-Mex

By FederalExpress |

We really loved coming to Dallas and going to Uncle Julio's for Tex-Mex. From the guacamole to the carne asada to the sopas, way to go. Wish they had one of these in Kansas City.

Delicious!

By smitk037 |

Great Tex mex experience. The table side guac is delicious and they will customize as you request for adding or deleting ingredients. The food was tasty as well as drinks. The skinny margarita was good but very small (probably why it's only 120 calories)!

Still keep coming here LOL

By AppleStud |

Very tasty and even healthy options available. A bit pricey for the portions but one always eat too many chips and salsa to make up for it LOL. Service is spotty and always a bit loud atmosphere for me. You can just eat/drink at the bar.

Very Good Food

By SouthernGal820 |

Three people at lunch, three different orders, all very good! Enchiladas, tacos, chile relenos (probably spelled incorrectly!). A good varied menu so something for most to choose from, nice inside, good service, large portions, and very good food. Would definitely eat here again.

My Favorite Uncle

By Rocco G |

I saw the sign and wondered if I was dreaming. I used to travel to Atlanta monthly 10 years ago and would always go to Uncle Julio's in Buckhead. I did not know they had opened in other places. The most delicious thin chips were there, as was the white Queso cheese dip. Great service but maybe a tad bit pricey for the casual Mexican food regular. You can't argue about the quality, extremely good food. Try the Laredo. Tell them Gandy sent you. Maybe my Queso will just show up for free next time!

Dinner on the first night in Dallas

By Christina H |

The food, service, and atmosphere were excellent. The only reason I deducted a star was bc the sides were pretty scant. However, everything tasted delicious! My favorite was the fresh plum margarita.

Very good Tex-Mex Food

By annewa2017 |

It was my first trip to Dallas. My friends who live there brought me to Uncle Julio's. I thought it was delicious and very reasonably priced. The service was good.

3-2-1 margaritas!!!!!

By Amanda M |

We tried a location in Illinois so when we attended a conference in Dallas we had to go! Get the 3-2-1 you will not regret it. Just do not take the puffs off the skewer with your fingers. It will burn you it’s so cold. The service was friendly and food was good. Portion size is enough to share.

Not good

By Spud577 |

I ordered the pan seared spicy tuna tacos. The tuna was ice cold- clearly pan seared sometime in the last 3 days and then held in cold holding until ready for use. I removed the tuna from the tacos it was so gross. Spicy? Not at all. Well, unless you consider mayonnaise spicy. Which was the better part of the sauce on the tacos. Service at the bar was abysmal as the servers attempted to tag team the length of the bar. Which equated to one server telling the other one what we wanted and the other one forgetting. Gross food. Terrible service. We tipped $10 on a $90 check. That's how poor the experience was. Having been in food service we like to tip...but this?? Nah. When it stinks it stinks.

Forgettable at best

By cheeder |

I stay in the area quite often and this was my first visit to Uncle Julio's. The place was crawling with waiting guests; I sat at the bar. My meal was mediocre at best. The Tortilla soup was tasty but the taco salad was close to awful. Margarita was so-so. Chips ere good but salsa and almost everything else was smoky flavored, maybe considered a good thing but a bit wearing for me. Although I asked fo the soup first then the salad, they came almost simultaneously. The tack salad was in a sort of cornucopia shape. But the taco shell was clearly stale. Nope, not for me, thanks....

Delicious!!!!!

By mol8008 |

My friends and I were in Dallas this past weekend. We went to Uncle Julio's for dinner. We were able to get reservations for 9 at 7:30. We were seated right away. The place was packed! Our server was really nice, we all ordered something different and everything was delicious! If go - get their Swirl, it's the bomb. Here's a tip: if you can - get reservations, this a popular restaurant and packed all the time.

Arlington VA location

Great food and service! The fajitas are always on point as is the salsa. Always enjoy the visit when we’re here.

Great service!

By I Like Food |

I love Uncle Julio's but have not been in a long while since we live out of state. We dined here early on a Saturday evening and not only was the food outstanding but, the service was superb. I haven't had such nice service since pre-Covid.

Sketchy valet

My family and I visited this place on a Friday night. When we drove up the place was packed with no parking, only in the valet. I hate letting valet park my vehicle. When I asked where the free self parking was i was told only the few taken spots in the front were available. Finally I gave in and asked if I could pay they valet and park myself and I was told no. I had no choice and let them park it for me. Once inside we were told there would be a 25 min wait, which was expected since it was a Friday night. A few minutes later they came back and said, "sorry we made a mistake it's 45min not 25 min wait." Of course we were frustrated and I told the host, "well we are already paying for valet we might as well stay". She then said it was complimentary for customers. By this time I was upset that the valet guy outside was charging for what should be a free service. I was told by a manager I could park anywhere I want and even park my own vehicle. They really need to fix these kind of issues. Just proved how they really don't know what's going on outside.

Great Tex-Mex lunch.

By micstebou |

We went here for lunch while in town for some meetings. First time we ate at one of these restaurants. The good: The service was top notch. The food excellent. Best, freshest tortillas. The charred salsa and beans were excellent. The shrimp fajitas with the garlic butter sauce was great. So were the enchilada, tamale, and taco had as a trio. The not so good: The chili con queso needs some work, not bad, but nothing special. Otherwise it was a great meal, great experience. We will definitely eat here again.

Excellent salsa!

By Doryv |

This place is huge and loud. And cold. Bring a sweater. Chips and salsa are good—you get your own individual salsa, which I like!! The chips were a bit stale but not extremely. The salsa is a beautiful dark red color, not really spicy but flavorful. It is what I most remember and liked of my meal!! We ordered a guacamole and queso appetizer. The guacamole was a bit too black for my taste and served over lettuce. The serving was a lot smaller than I expected. The queso is that americanized yellow cheese—not a mexican white queso, but the flavor is good. Next time though I will skip this appetizer. We shared the Guadalajara (fajitas that include shrimp, chicken and beef). It was all super good!! The tortillas are small but delicious. Rice and beans weren’t noteworthy. I ordered water but yuck! Dallas doesn’t have good water. So I ordered some strawberry lemonade drink and it was yummy. All in all, a good Mexican food dining experience!

Hand down the best tex-mex ever

By Lola M |

I lived in Dallas for 8 years and this is the place that I crave the most. The chips (home made) and salsa are delicious and the nachos...oh well, nachos are something out of this world, they are made individually, with a bean sauce, melted cheese and fresh grilled pieces of chicken or beef (my favorites) to then add cream souce, guac and jalapeno...also don't forger to order guacamole that is made in a beautiful molcajete- Margaritas are just the perfect pair to the nachos...will for sure come back-

Quick happy hour visit

By ans6c |

We stopped in for a quick happy hour visit. The chips and guacamole are awesome. The Swirl Margarita combines frozen margarita and frozen sangria - excellent! Great service and atmosphere and good happy hour prices. Close to Dallas Love.

Birthday. Over priced.

By Alice K |

I know Good Mexican food when I eat it. Very disappointed in the quac and Quesa combination app. it was more like a scoop and a a tiny cup (on a bed of soggy lettuce.). It’s been a long time that I’ve eaten here - now I know why I haven’t been here recently and probably won’t come back. Adios

Great first experience!!

By GLucas759 |

Very great experience from the food to the staff. Omar who we found out was very new did a outstanding job! We even called management over to tell them. Watching them make the tortillas right in front of you was awesome!! And then having the guacamole made right at table fresh to order.... Wonderful.. Best margaritas you have ever had!! We will for sure be back!!!

Fresh Mexican food

By Deb P |

Fun and festive Mexican restaurant with the very best homemade chips and roasted tomatoe salsa. I visit this restaurant every time I visit Dallas, and it consistently pleases! If you like Chili Rellenos, these are some of the best!

Good Tex Mex

By travelin77 |

Liked the table side guacamole. Some of the best I have ever had. You can tell they serve it a lot by the two carts set up with all the fresh ingredients chopped up and ready to put together.

Consistently awesome

By LanceRyan |

Pork tamales with New Mexico red sauce. Pork ribs. (Yes ribs at a Mexican restaurant.) 1 stacked beef enchilada. Do this. Seriously do it. But don't eat it all. You will be miserable. Everything is great here, but the above has been my go to for the last few months.

Great food

By Beverly O |

We had guacamole, salmon and fajitas with queso as a side. And glazed shrimp. Food was great and service was real good

Excellent Food Great Service

By ddmullis |

I had a business dinner recently at Uncle Julios. I started with the soup which was excellent. The chips and salsa was very tasty as well. For my entree I had the fajita tacos which was top notch Great choice for Tex Mex dinner

Out of town visitor. Wish I lived here to come again

By David T |

Several colleagues and I gave this place a try. We were so happy we did. They have free valet parking just tip them. Fun atmosphere. Great for adults or kids of any age. Looks like they can handle large parties. You can sit inside or out. You have to have the guacamole. Possibly the best I have ever had. The margaritas were really good. I had the honey chipotle chicken fajitas and they were amazing. The fajita skirt steak my teammate had was awesome. The rest of the group loved their food as well. Whether you’re out with your family, friends or someone from out of town like myself, you won’t go wrong with this place. Enjoy

Food is below average, cleanliness is a problem

By russkwtx |

Our experience was less than enthralling. I can't say there is anything particularly captivating about the atmosphere or ambience. We were seated and the waitress proceeded to drop our menu on the ground and then step on it as she tried to pick it up. When I opened my cloth napkin it was dirty. I grabbed another from a nearby table and in it was dirty silverware. The complimentary chips and salsa: the salsa was smoky but the chips were way too greasy (glistening with grease) so we could not really enjoy the above-average salsa. We started with a small order of guacamole ($5.99) and it tasted like it was out of a box that you buy at the store. Very ordinary. My margarita was ok but at $8.49 it was overpriced. Her glass of zinfandel was $9.99 which is rather ridiculous considering you can get a large bottle for $7.99 at a liquor store. The wife got the roasted vegetable tamales ($9.99) and they were the star of the dinner until she found a bug baked into the masa. I ordered nachos with skirt steak ($13.99) and they were ok but nothing special and at that price way overpriced. I would say that they were at the lower end of nachos I have had. By the end of the meal we could not wait to leave. I have no plans to return. Too bad, Uncle Julio used to be a really good, reliable place.

A classic! Excellent service and food

By Beth is TallLadyTX |

We had a large family gathering here and every meal we had we shared because it was all so good. Our waitress was a pro, always back to our table before we could think of anything we needed. All the staff were very friendly and we hope to visit again very soon!

Trash experience

By Misty W |

Tyler personally went around to every table and ask everyone how there food was and how they doing except me my table I felt violated and racial profiles the food wasn’t exceptional and the waiter Jose was slow and rude at the same time

Excellent! Hasn't changed a bit

By Dogontour |

I used to come here in the 90's and loved it. I am pleased to say it is still great with the best fajitas and quesadillas. The 'swirl' which is frozen Sangria and frozen margarita mixed together is a 'must drink' . Nice service too! $120 for three with a few drinks is excellent value. Uncle Julio we still love you! Back in august...:)

Good referral from a local

By Doug w |

I asked a friend who was a long time resident of the Dallas area for a recommendation for a good restaurant. Uncle Julios looks to have been here a long time and the service, culture and everything clicks like a long time establishment. The guacamole dip prepared table side with fresh ingredients was excellent. I had the fajita quesadilla (steak) and it was hot and tasty! Good restaurant choice near downtown

Saturday Morning Breakfast

By bjb4715 |

Meet some friends traveling thru town via Love Field. Convenient place to meet. Food & drinks were overpriced & just ok. Nothing to brag about especially for the price. Service was slow. Will probably go someplace else next time.

Birthday celebration w/family and friends

By euniceindallas |

Large party but the waiter handled it fast and efficient. The chicken was very fresh and tasty in my chicken fajitas and the tortillas were yummy. The Chocolate Piñata was very cool - we had a chocolate syrup Piñata tray and a berry syrup Piñata tray

Good food but sneaky way to get bigger tips and better reviews

By carlj2605 |

Good food but lousy waiter. The worst was when it was time to pay via an electronic device the waiter has you sign. Surprise - a 20% tip was pre-selected as the waiter watches to see if you change the percentage. And then a section comes to rate your waiter as the waiter again looks on. What a mean way to force customers to leave a bigger tip and better review than is warranted. I just really dislike being manipulated this way.

Melt your face off good.

By Stephanie C |

I am not a big fan of Tex/Mex in general. This was epic … in a good way. I would highly recommend Uncle Julio's for their overall fare and "home cooked" tortillas, chips and dips. It is a refreshing departure from restaurant chain style cuisine.

My Car Was Towed As Well!

By superstarsocialw2016 |

Horrible experience with my children! Went to Uncle Julio's after a day of school shopping with my kids (we're from East Texas--about two hours away from Dallas). The parking lot was full, so I parked next door (to the left of the restaurant.....I did NOT see a sign in regards to towing). My kids and I had a decent meal (the salsa was great). When we left, there was a guy towing away a jeep. I didn't see my car, so I asked the guy if he had towed by car as well. He very rudely said that he did "about an hour ago." I had to ask him three times where the "towing sign" was located. I called the number on the sign and got the rudest woman on the face of the planet who told me it would cost $174 to get my car from their lot in West Dallas. She went on to say that if I would have paid the $10 to have valet service at Uncle Julio's it would have been cheaper than $174. She did not care that I was from out of town. She did not care that I had my children with me. She did not care that I know NO ONE in Dallas. I then went into the Vitamin Shoppe and the clerk gave me the number to a cab. He said that there were approximately 10 cars towed that very evening, that the valet service should warn customers, and that the restaurant should post a sign (needless to say, I agree!). Furthermore, the clerk stated that "there are people in the parking lot and across the street taking pictures of people parking their cars." Anyway...I got a cab for my children and me to go get my car in a VERY SHADY and SCARY part of Dallas. I had to pay $164 on my MasterCard and $10 cash for the affidavit. The lady at the impound would not allow my children or me to go inside. She was behind black glass. We were stuck outside, in the dark, in a BAD part of town. After I finally got my car, I called the manager at Uncle Julio's and reported my experience. He had no empathy. It's not like I knew the lay-out. It's not like I purposely parked in a lot where I wasn't suppose to park (btw, there were VERY few cars in that lot when I arrived, it was around 7:00 on a Saturday night). Needless to say, I will NEVER go back to Uncle Julio's!

Great Tableside Quac

By Livies Yorkies & Biewers |

Welcome to a great dinner ! From the minute we walked in the door we felt welcomed. Our waiter did a great job . We had the table side guacamole and it was delicious! The lady who made the quac was friendly and worked very hard to make sure she made it just to our liking . Fijitas were great also !

Pretty good Tex-Mex

By Ashley Hobgood |

My uncle and I came here for lunch. We both had the chicken enchiladas. We thought the entrees were delicious. The service of the staff was great. We may come back again.

Fresh TEx Mex

By lynnem583 |

In town for the College semi final Cotton Bowl Clemson vs Notre Dam. Wanted some good Tex Mex. Went straight to uncle Julio’s from airport. It was delicious, reasonably priced and service outstanding. My husband got bacon wrapped shrimp and I got tamales one with red sauce and one with sour cream sauce! Delicious!! Highly recommend! Atmosphere was great too!

Good lunch

By Shannon B |

Our 2 kids and 2 adults enjoyed lunch here. Kids ordered off the children's menu. I had 2 chicken soft tacos and my husband had the fish tacos. Portions were good sized. We liked the salsa and also the homemade flour tortillas.. Prices slightly high for lunch. Our bill was $45 before tip and we only had water. Would definately come again though.

always great

By Joe P |

we try to eat here every market. Best guac, and the platter degordo is the best! the margaritas with a floater are killer too but be careful, they're deadly!

Changed and NOT for the better!

By Neil-from-Dallas |

We've been going here for years but change has come and its not good.. Chips are totally inedible..we se t them back as they were stale and waiter brought us another basket but candidly told us that just like the change I the salsa, they have changed the chips and not good. Fatitas..tortillas while still warm and good are now half size they were before along with everything else like the cheese and guacamole..all very small portions Beans were cold Wife's order of chicken enchiladas turned out to be 1 chicken and one beef Margaritas, esp wife's special one, didnt have much tequila. Kids running and screeching didn't help matters any! Not going back..there are plenty of mexican restaurants in Dallas. Sad

Good service, mediocre food

By Marcus L |

My friends and I went here the night before the Texas-ou game and were underwhelmed. The chips were ok, but the hot sauce was a weak, watery chipotle concoction. My friends had fajitas, and they said they were ok. The beef was of good quality but the taste was average and below expectations. I had the Juanita’s plate, which had a good chicken enchilada, a fair beef enchilada and an inedible tamale with a very strange tasting sauce. The beef taco was ok. The bright spot was the service. Our waiter was excellent. Our group used to eat here regularly in the 90’s - it was our go-to place for Mexican food. However, it is now a mediocre, run of the mill chain restaurant. We sadly won’t be back.

It was good not Great

By Denice M |

Didn't have to wait for a table that was a plus. Our waiter was very nice. The hot sauce and Queso were OK. I had the Juanitas Platter, the pork tamale was the best thing on the plate. The enchiladas didn't have much taste and dry. It wasn't cheap to eat there.

Good chips and sauce, good service, good entree's - recommend it

By Gary H |

we stopped in after our flights to Love Field for a quick bite to eat before a Dallas Stars game. We were worried we may not have enough time to eat before trying to park, but the service was great and got us in and out very quickly. The chips and sauce were very tasty which was a great start. Then everyone said their food was great. I would recommend them.

...another good experience !!!!

By Edwin R |

....we've gone to Uncle Julio's a few times & it's always been a good experience. The service is usually good & our food has always tasted great. This location stays packed, but usually you can be seated quickly. The few times there has been an issue with the food, they have taken care of it immediately & offered some type of compensation. The drinks are always good also, just in case you're looking for a good margarita

Fast service

By S10UXK |

We visited the restaurant before heading out to the bar/club and the service was pretty quick. Ask for the table side guacamole and frozen margaritas. Not a bad choice for a family of 14!!!

Good Mexican Food!

Better than a chain for sure! The expected atmosphere....hopping with locals = a good bet. Service was good and food was too!

Best fajitas in Dallas

By Robert W |

I try and eat at uncle Julio's once a month. They have the best chicken and steak fajitas in Dallas. The swirls always help make the meal complete. Excellent service and all the staff are very pleasant for a great customer experience. I recommend it for all who like a good tex-mex meal. I miss the flan.

Dinner @ Uncle Julio's

By derondah |

Date Night @ Uncle Julio's was not what I expected. When we walked in there was no greeting, the staff just stood there looking & finally asked how many. We were taken to our seats & our waitress wasn't much better in terms of greeting. The chips were super bland w/no taste, salsa wasn't good & the chicken enchiladas were okay. Uncle Julio's is considered upscale dining but I've had much better Tex-Mex @ other restaurants. The swirl margarita was the best thing that I had.

Nice!

By Anthony L |

Meeting up with relatives in Dallas and he suggested this place. Guacamole made fresh at the table. I shared the Guadalajara with my wife and it was amazing. Would return next time visiting Dallas.

One of my favorite Tex-Mex restaurants

By Tom C |

I've been coming here for years and just had another good experience. Servings are large and the food and service are reliable. Limited parking; use the valet.

Best Salsa Ever!

By Phyllis J |

My husband and I happened to choose Uncle Julio's by chance after leaving Love Field. The food was wonderful and the salsa was the best I ever had! I will be back my next trip to Dallas.

Tex-mex in a hurry

By MI6Reviewer |

I was told this is the best mexican place going before we got there so it had a lot to live up to. I must say it didnt disappoint; the food was amazing. We started with chips, queso and guac and then for main i had the steak fajitas and if i had to eat that for the rest of my life i wouldnt be mad about it. My only complaint is how quickly the food comes and how slowly the drinks come. We asked 3 separate waiters for water and it took them over 10 minutes to bring it over even though clearly one of our guests was coughing and needed water. The whole thing seemed kind of rushed (minus the drinks) and we were in and out in less than 45 minutes but the food is delicious and I would go back in a heartbeat.

Chocolate Pinata in Uncle Julio's

By Tillies |

We had a wonderful dinner with friends. We were in time for happy hour and the the Swirl was delicious. Go for the table side guacamole too. But save room for the most amazing desert....the chocolate piñata. Amazing...

Average Mexican fare for twice the price. Something wrong with this pictures?

By Randy Thompson |

Hadn't been to an Uncle Julio's since around 2005, but was in the neighborhood around lunch time on a Sunday, spotted the sign and thought, why not. In this location they had apparently just finished an extensive renovation because the place looked pretty much brand new inside. When I got the menu I scanned for my favorites and was floored by the costs of their entrees. My son wound up picking a grilled chicken dish with rice and beans and it was $18 dollars! For lunch! Oh, and a $7 margarita. If you are concluding from this that my son takes advantage of me at lunch time, yes, I will concede that. But given there were no options at all under $10, and it was a strain to find any under $14, Uncle Julio's is simply put, pricey. In all, this lunch set me back some $50 and honestly, it wasn't worth it. Not even close There was a Gloria's right across the street and thinking about it now, I should have gone over there. Or better still, make a little longer drive and dine at Ozona or hit up a nearby Torchy's.

Good food, nice atmosphere

By Mindi M |

I ate here for the first time recently. The atmosphere is casual, but nice. Their salsa is delicious. It has a smoky flavor I’ve never tasted in salsa. We also ordered the cheese dip off the menu. I can’t remember the name of it, but it was also very good. I had the fish tacos, which were good, but a little too spicy in my opinion. The waitress told us they were spicy, but only as spicy as the salsa, which I didn’t think was spicy at all. The tacos were WAY spicier. But again, they were still good. I was disappointed that the sopapillas were $5 because I’m used to free sopapillas at other Mexican restaurants. We decided not to order any. The service was also good. I would probably go back, mostly for the salsa!

Dinner at Uncle Julios

By E6845LSjerrys |

Uncle Julios Mexican Restaurant in Dallas is consistently excellent. The food is great and service outstanding. We took our grandchildren with us and completed dinner with the chocolate pinata. It was a huge hit with the kids.

Every thing was fresh and delicious

By bobalicia1950 |

We shared tamales, gucamole, rice, quesadilla's, beans, chicken tacos, salsa & chips & cheese sauce. They gave us so much food we took alot of it to go.

The smoking drink was fabulous. Try the beef enchiladas. Great atmosphere, parking is a little tight, use the valet. Will be going back real soon for a night out with the girls.

HORRIBLE Customer Service, Rude valet, not impressed with the food, Pinata was great!

By Jenny R |

This was my first experience at this location on Lemmon Avenue. We arrived at 7 and were told we would have to wait 2.5 hours for a table. Instead we claimed tables in the bar area. It took over 20 minutes for someone to come by and clean the tables for us to even sit down. Once the tables were cleaned it took another 35 minutes to get our drinks. We ordered guacamole and queso for appetizers and when it arrived we did not have chips. Chips were brought to the table after asking numerous times, several minutes later. We also had to ask for drink refills numerous times. At one point I got up to serve a couple of people in my group more water since I was able to see the pitcher. I tried to make the best of the visit since we were there for a birthday. The only thing that we enjoyed was the chocolate piñata. If we do go back it will not be to this location and I will only be ordering a piñata. Our total visit time was 4 hours. To make this visit any worse when we left we realized our cars had been towed! We parked next door at the Vitamin World shopping strip which was closed at the time. Our cars were the only cars towed. There were 7 other cars around ours and they picked ours out of the middle to tow?! It seemed suspicious as if the valet was involved in the towing process. We greeted the valet guys when we arrived and they watched us park and they were not courteous enough to warn us about the strict towing rules associated with that empty parking lot. I did speak to valet and asked why they did not warn us. His response was "You're not my customer. My customers are valet". I then spoke to the manager and explained we had just spent over 400.00 and told him my situation and he did not seem to care and only said he would speak to the valets. No apology for the horrible service or food. **DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY AT THIS LOCATION!!**

Downhill sliide

By BSterling |

I hate to write this review. I’ve been going to Uncle Julio’s for 40 years and a loyal disciple. I’ve gone to countless locations to get my fix. Off the top of my head, they include Reston, Richmond (now closed), Bethesda, Brentwood, Lombard, Mckinney, Mesquite, Flower Mound, and of course Lemmon. I quit going to McKinney after COVID. It was not the same, but Lemmon seemed to hold it’s on. However, now Lemmon has lost its edge. A big restaurant with only 10% of the tables occupied tells you all. This is second time in 2 months. Cold chips, cold beans, a different salsa, and a revamped menu that has lost several of the old favorites. A big restaurant needs to be busy to keep the food fresh and the staff on their toes.

Always tasty!!

By Lindaburkhart |

We actually have been here many times because it's in our neighborhood. By far one of our favorite Mexican food restaurants. We've both enjoyed many menu items and drinks. Everything is always fantastic as is the service!! Highly recommend !

Michellin star tacos!

By Lola M |

Hands down these remain the best tacos that I have ever tried. The chips and salsa are a bonus, but please order the beef (or if you prefer chicken) nachos, you will not regret it. They are prepared individually with bean paste, sour cream, a bit of pico de gallo and guac and on top a slice of medium cooked beef strips...delicious!!!!!

Carnitas tacos

The meat for these tacos was the toughest i’ve ever had.. Worst tacos ever! So bad in fact that I had an upset stomach all night and into the next day.

The group approved of my choice of Uncle Julio's

By bobtheplanner |

Three guys in search of a good Mexican meal within our per diem of $26 inclusive of tax and tip. We knew this was a great choice in Austin, and it turns out this Dallas location was the original. It didnt disappoint us- tableside guac was prepared to our taste, and 2 of us had the Jalisco fajitas- grilled chicken, steak and shrimp- and the 3rd guy had 2 chicken enchiladas with a killer creamy hatch sauce. Homemade tortillas were irresistible. Always a line so reserve ahead.

Very Disappointed in Customer service

By satkins1958 |

Planned a birthday dinner with 14 family members. Made reservation the day before. Got to restaurant and was told I did not make a reservation. I said I did and was told "well it isn't on here so..." Very rude hostess. Asked for a large table and was told they didn't do that. Always have in the past and a group that came in well past our arrival received a large table. Hmmm. Have always liked the Lemmon Ave. Uncle Julio's in the past. Must have new management. Service was horrible and no one seemed to care. Will not return.

Great Service, Tex-Mex and Atmosphere

By ElDoradoGeorge |

This was my first time visiting and it did not dissapoint. Arrived around 8:30p on a Friday night and was promptly taken to be seated. The chips and salsa were great; they don't have verde salsa but brought their hot salsa. It was actually mild to us, but still good. We got the fajitas (shrimp and beef) fpor two with flour tortillas and the mini churros for dessert were a pleasant suprise. All the tables in the area were occupied but we never felt crowded. Had the watermelon and gold margaritas...perfect drinks. Highly recomment for a night out.

Needs a refresh

By jdramsey504 |

Used to be one of my favorites. Frequented it quite a bit when we lived in Dallas 30 years ago and have visited annually since. I can't put my finger on exactly what's happening but it seems to have a lot of new staff. We went this week on Tuesday (our first visit after landing at DFW!) and saw the "Taco Tuesday for 2" or whatever it's actually called. The table next to us had it so we ordered as well. The waiter told us there were four meats to choose from...shredded chicken, ground beef, fajita chicken or fajita beef. We could choose two. We picked the fajitas and were surprised to see a $6-8 upcharge on our final bill PER ITEM because we chose fajitas. I would have liked to have known this earlier, of course. Overall, the waiter was friendly enough but it took a few minutes for him to initially greet us (he apologized), a few more minutes for chips/salsa/water and about 5 minutes for two bottled beer. Doesn't sound that long, I know, but the restaurant was 1/2 full and the bar was literally 40 feet away. Maybe my expectations are too high?

Expensive and okay

By JONC777 |

The food was good but the atmosphere was loud. My strawberry daiquiri was great. The food very expensive for what you get , honestly unless your there for a party and you don't mind it being loud, I'd find another place to go.

Uncle Juli'NO

By The A Team |

We went there with a big group for dinner. We came in pretty early, 6:00. The service was terrible, the food is average at best, it was loud, and drinks were small. Otherwise, it was awesome!..... We had one waitress who seemed somewhat emo and was in too deep. She couldn't handle it. The service was so slow. We ran out of tortillas and we had to get up ourselves to get them. We ordered a second round of drinks and they took over 10 minutes to get. The bill took forever. You get the drift. For an encore, the waitress slammed down the empty tortilla bins to make a huge "bang" and for a second encore, she dumped an entire serving tray of food on a customers back, by accident, and then onto the floor. It was a huge mess. That said, it is entirely managements fault that there is no one helping out their staff. I feel for the waitress since the restaurant business is tough. It's up to management to make sure the customers are taken care of. The food is ok there but somewhat expensive. $85 for 2 with fajitas for 2 (chicken) and 2 margaritas.

Table side guacamole!

By Carol M |

Never had anything here I didn't like! My husband loves the fajitas and the fajita quesadillas. I like to get the table side guacamole. The chips and salsa are what I miss when I'm away.

Meh. Food was good, but it's not really my scene.

By MrAndMrsC_2005 |

It was late on a Saturday evening, and we got a table quickly. I didn't realize that Uncle Julio's was "fine" Mexican or we would have gone somewhere else. We were really looking for more of a local homey Tex Mex place, and this wasn't that. My mistake. Our service was prompt, but not overly friendly, and the place was dark and super loud, kind of had a club feeling to me. The food was really good, but I felt like it was overpriced for tacos and cheese dip. Just didn't fit the bill.

Too expensive for tex-mex

By kortina |

Went here for dinner tonight. Great atmosphere, great servers. A little too expensive but tex max. Spent $66 for nachos and enchiladas

Sad and Disappointed

By Michelle H |

I have been a huge fan of Uncle Julio’s on Lemmon in Dallas for over 30 years. In all those years, I have never been disappointed. Until today. While our server was very nice, he was very incompetent. We ordered steak fajitas, no pepper, ditto chicken fajitas. Both came with peppers and when we told our server, he said that he had put the order in correct and started to walk off. We had to explain (several times) that we ordered no peppers. We finally got him to send them back only to receive them again, without peppers, but very dry, and burned. If I had to guess, they took the meat off the original order and cooked it again. This was after our server had forgotten to put our order in. Took way too long for refills, got the wrong refills, and took over 30 minutes to get our check (which was another ordeal). Our server actually came back to the table and asked for a “card so I can split the check.” (Ummmm….what?? I’m not giving you a card without a check…) Finally, after two hours and extreme disappointment in my beloved Uncle Julio’s, we left. 😢😢

Awesome Food!

Had the cheese dip and then the mixed fajitas. Everything was wonderful! Enjoyed the light as air tortilla chips and salsa (and the cheese dip)! The fajitas were excellent! Chicken was just right. Steak was tasty and not over cooked. The beans and rice was also excellent. I'll be back when I'm in Dallas again. The service was also friendly and quick.

Margaritas and Skirt Steak!

By Climber783431 |

Uncle Julio's truly excels particularly in the Margarita's department and their fabulous skirt steak. Eating solo, I took the advice of the bartender when I asked which dish he likes most. Wonderfully marinated and perfectly cooked medium rare (to truly capture the flavor and tenderness), it was so much more than I imagined. And too much for one sitting -- I ended up taking half home for lunch. Margarita's are potent and delicious -- a nice portion as well, and so many varieties and choices. Just another reason to come back and enjoy some of the alternatives I missed. Prices are fair for quality and service. They have some nice HDTVs in the bar area to enjoy sports events which savoring the oh so light chips and delicious salsa. Did I forget to mention how wonderful the homemade flour tortillas are? There's only one caution: Do use valet parking. Don't park in the strip mall parking lot next door, anytime. You will get towed and it's a hefty price to recover your vehicle.

food not too bad, zero service at the bar

By maxxboy |

Too many good places for Tex Mex to go here, And the good is okay. The service is just so consistently bad.

Plate Pop

By CalP0ly |

I found the food mediocre, It's all about plate pop here, a term that refers to the shock and awe when your food comes at the size of the portions and presentation. The table side prepared Guacamole was so beyond bland it tasted like some pre-packaged supermarket guac, very disappointing.

Fun a flavorful

By Lynne A |

I've held two luncheons in this franchise in the past six months. A group of women. We find the service energetic - making a genuine effort to please their customers! The mexican food is typical Tex-Mex which is fine and the Chocolate Pinata is fun and provides a small dessert for everyone without overdoing dessert! Previous guests have requested we return there because the energy, prices and food are all positive!

Negative first impression

By AHS64 |

First time at this Tex-Amex restaurant with a friend from out of town. Valet parking available but no more parking space was available. Made reservation for 4 but they said they didn’t know when we will get a table. Asked to speak to a manager and got seated 15 min after our reserved time. It was so loud we all had a hard time hearing each other. Food was ok. The server was nice but forgot tortillas for the fajitas. Super busy, slow service. Not a good first experience and will not return to this restaurant.

In love with the chips and salsa

By Jer Bear |

This is a great restaurant, the food is really delicious. The fresh crispy homemade chips and salsa are my favorite, my husband enjoyed the tableside guacamole. Both of our meals were outstanding, I had the enchiladas and my husband had the taquitos. We experienced the chocolate pinata filled with charros, pineapple, strawberries and chocolate truffles, with caramel and chocolate sauce with whip cream. A truly delicious treat to experience.

Not what it used to be

By Gary B |

Uncle Julios has lost it's original appeal...food quality is poor and the staff turns over so often that no one really seems to know what they're doing.

great food, table side guacamole

By Tara H |

love it.. great tex mex and table side guacamole . Service was great, margaritas were yummy and it was priced right too.

Made from Scratch

By adventuresrgreat |

You know immediately that the food is made from scratch. All tortillas, chips, tableside guacamole, sizzling fajitas, and chocolate pinatas filled with fruit are fresh. You will not be disappointed!

Real Tex-mex

By Robyn F |

Amazing food, attentive service and a great atmosphere. You have to try the swirl! The tableside guacamole is fun and the chocolate piñata at the end is a treat no one will forget.

Dining Fail

By Karen R |

Overpriced food and one has to BEG for service. Tables are set so close together that I could not even enjoy a quiet conversation with my table. Others' conversation volume dominated ours. The tab was high and I got sick when I got home.

A Dallas tradition

By Glen S |

If you enjoy a little higher quality texmex in the true tradition of Texas try Uncle Julios. Large portions, good quality ingredients and spicy hot sauce served with wonder thin and light tortilla chips. This is not a trendy place, this is upscale Mexican food at a reasonable price. My favorite is the cheese enchiladas served with onions and chili con carne on top. You rarely find enchiladas served like this, most of the time they just have sauce and cheese. Their fajitas are also very good and have a wide variety to choose from. The only reason I am giving them a 4 is because the rice was not hot when served and the waitress took my plate away without asking me if I was a through.

The Best Tex Mex

By Charles A |

There are probably over 1,000 Tex-Mex restaurants in Dallas Fort Worth, but there is only one number one, and that is Uncle Julio's. There is a reason they have been around for over thirty years. Get yourself an order of Mama's Nachos, and an order of chicken quesadillas topped off with a swirl to drink, and you are in heaven.

good place

By Joe M |

Okay, i have to downgrade them a bit because they had taken the quail dish off of he menu last time I was thee, but still quite good.

Never Disappoints Me

By Ashton B |

I’ve been coming here for over 20 years, it is consistently excellent. The food, the service and location is very convenient to where I always stay in Dallas. Every time I am Dallas, Uncle Julio’s is always a must place to eat.

Gringo Tex Mex

By Elana56 |

The food is just okay. Guacamole with no lime, cilantro or onion and thus tasteless. Salsa was better than just pico de gallo but the mesquite grilled chicken had minimal spices. As best as I can tell, tex mex food is gringo Mexican food eaten in Texas. Now if you're into huge plates of food, as in Texas sized, yes, you'll get your money's worth. Fresh corn tortillas were substituted for the flour without a problem but the waiter, as hard as he tried, still could not make the kitchen understand that no dairy means no cheese and no sour creme. Would I go back? Probably not.

Outstanding!!!

By GLucas759 |

Words can not express the experience we had this evening at this restaurant!! Tyler who waited on us was wonderful and couldn't ask for anything more! Chris who was making the Frozen desserts and drinks with liquid nitrogen did great to let us try the new rave hitting the restaurant on Monday!! Which is gonna blow this restaurant away. But Cliff the General Manager went way above and beyond making our evening. Thank you for the pinata dessert it was delicious!! Completely blew me away for the 2nd time. Thank you all so much for treating us to a wonderful business meeting.

Ver nice service at a TexMex restaurant

By Eduard P |

Very delicious enchiladas and salad. We received an excellent service from Mrs. Joy. Very kind and helpful person. Meals are at very good prices.

Graduation Celebration

By einuh |

The service is ok, but this is Tex-Mex that is made by someone that has just learned to cook Mexican food. The Piñata is good for a celebration, but that's it. Sorry.. wanted so much to like this place.

Dinner in Dallas

By trooper198 |

Stopped in for dinner after JFK museum. Complementary valet parking. Even though parking lot was packed we got right in. The atmosphere is authentic. The salsa served with warm chips is fantastic. The queso dip is best we'd ever had. The Chipotle chicken dish is beyond delicious. The red snapper fajitas were also very good. The 4 of us enjoyed every aspect of this place. They even make thier own warm corn tortillas.

Best Tex Mex

By John C |

Hands down the best TexMex there is, one at the tollway and keller springs in Dallas is my favorite. You can go to Atlanta,DC, and feels like home.

Terrible Customer Service

By LSaints |

For a pricey restaurant you would expect better service. I didn't get the name of the waiter. He was the tall guy w a goofy look like the guy on mad magazine. He didn't refill our waters. He didn't check up on us until he wanted to know who gets the check. After we paid we stayed talking catching up since we hadn't seen each other in a while & he didn't come back to see if we wanted anything else. Had he done so he would've found out we wanted dessert. Not the waiter nor anyone else came by to check on us. I gave him more than 20% tip because I just normally do that but now I wish I hadnt. I haven't been to an uncle julios since they opened because I haven't lived in Dallas since the mid 80s & service has gone downhill. What a shame.

My favorite place to eat in Dallas!!

By Quin W |

This place is the best all the way to their chips and salsa. Pechuga de Pollo with the Mexican butter to die for!

always my first stop when flying in to Love Field

By Kristin S |

Uncle Julio's was my first stop off the plan and my last stop before heading to the airport to leave Dallas on a recent trip. It's just that delicious. We had so-so service on my first stop but stellar service on my second. As we headed to the airport, we realized I had a few extra minutes. We detoured to Uncle Julio's, found a spot at one of the bar area tables, and ordered. Our server was so helpful with our order and so speedy. We downed our last Tex Mex for a while and were on our way. I miss the old tortilla soup recipe but the chips and salsa simply can't be beaten.

Authentic Ambiance

By TonyG1974 |

First let me say that this place exudes the heritage and culture of Mexico, from the giant vases and tapestry that adorns this place to the earth town colors of stones and pillars. The place has the feel of a great restaurant! The food was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My brother ordered the shrimp diablo which were huge succulent shrimp wrapped with bacon with a bit of Jalepeno pepper. DELICOUS! The menu offers a number of Authentic dishes from ,tamales, burritos, to seafood and steak . Can't go wrong at this place. If you love Mexican food with a upscale feel then I would definitely try this place. Big portions, family style round tables and full bar makes this my number one Latin restaurant in Texas!

Parking nightmare

By David C |

o NOT go to Uncle Julio's on Lemmon Street in Dallas, Texas. They have a small parking lot and the valet parking is always full on Friday and Saturday nights. I parked in the part lot next door. No one at Uncle Julio's, the valet people, the greeter at the front nor the waiter, warned me that if you park in the lot next door that your vehicle will be towed. I pulled in the lot next door, there WAS a sign that cars will be towed but the sign was partially covered by a tree. I spoke to the customer service manager at Uncle Julio's by they would not help me. They would NOT even my $97.00 I paid for the meal. It is my opinion but I believe Uncle Julio's get a kick back from the towing company. When I went back the next day to take pictures, Uncle Julio's has the same sign on their pole, in their parking lot. That would explain why I was not warned. It cost my $174.00, plus an uber ride to the towing company, to get my vehicle back. While waiting on Uber, I saw the towing company tow every car for customers walking next door to Uncle Julio's. I asked the tow truck driver about this and he said as soon as they see you walk away from your car, it is towed. While at the towiing company, I saw four tow trucks bringing in cars. When I went in the back to get my vehicle, there must have been 100 cars that had been towed. Most from the lot next to Uncle Julio's. Don't go there! Oh, the food was average. FYI, the parking lot had reserved signs next to each business but nothing on the pavement and no signs at the end of the parking spot for parking next to the road. This is some sort of scam.

High prices

By Aurora M |

The restaurant looks very nice. For me there are not many choices in the menu, and it is expensive. Also the drinks. Only one visit.

Warning: Lots of PDA

By Mike R |

Just stopped in for appetizers and drinks while awaiting a flight to arrive at Love Field nearby. Our service here was just OK... Our waiter had good intentions but in all honestly had a difficult time keeping up, and we only ordered 2 rounds of margaritas and 2 appetizers over the course of an hour. Also, my wife and I have never seen so much PDA in a public restaurant -- at 6:00 pm by the way. The "orientation" of the couples is irrelevant, sincerely. The non-stop petting and rubbing and kissing is simply tasteless and inappropriate in a restaurant. Based on this visit, I would not take my children into this particular Uncle Julio's location.

dinner

food was great drinks were great very authenic mexican had a great time we had tamalas, fish tacos, burritos, chips and salsa were great too

Birthday Gathering

By Rodney M |

Second time that I've eaten at this location, both times for family gatherings for birthday. For my taste the food is just average, a bit overpriced. Had the fajitas this time, they were okay, but I like mine with a bit more seasoning.

Seems to have lost it flair. Not as good as I remember.

By betty b |

I recently had lunch with a large group at the Uncle Julio's on Lemmon in Dallas. The service was rather slow and the food was not like aI remembered in the past. The lunch portion of quesadillas left something to be desired. The Soup and Tacos al Carbon were good but for $11.99 rice and/or beans would have been nice. The queso was good but slightly bland as was the salsa. The lunch was good.. just not outstanding.

Great time!!!!!!!

By Roy H |

Ate dinner here with my friends and had a great time. The food was excellent and the staff was very friendly. We splurged and had the Chocolate pinata and my group was very excited and impressed by the desert. We all decided next time we come to Carrollton in a few weeks we would return again. Excellent Mexican food.

Great Mexican Food

A total lack of responsive management while toilets overflowed into our eating area, doors left open in freezing weather

By riadared |

Visiting our son from Seattle, we left this restaurant shocked at the lack of sensitivity to our family when a toilet overflowed into our eating area, which in and of itself was bad enough. Cleanup lasted 15 minutes when they left the back door wide open during freezing windy weather, blowing onto our family and our little girl who was fevered and chilled at the time, and directly in harm's way from the biting wind. Our dinner experience was greatly reduced without regard! No one even attempted to accommodate us with a free drink, discount or even an apology until we expressed that this was totally unnacceptable, and then they only said, "were are working on it. " Hey, accidents happen but it is how a restaurant chooses to handle mis-haps like this one that sets one restaurant apart from the mundane and the derelict. As a business owner myself, I can say a round of free drinks is so much cheaper than a bad review, but it was obvious there was a lack of understanding and training of the managing staff to this end. In addition, one bottled drink was delayed to the point of annoyance, when others at our table had been served, and we had to ask for coffee warm-ups more than once. I would think a tex-mex chain would have been better trained to handle their customers and turn negative issues into positive ones before a customer is so compelled to provide a review like this one.

Genuine From Scratch Mexican

By Haley914 |

This food is amazing and home made and they deliver. We had the tacos, and covered the rice with queso and ground beef for a yummy meal. The taco shells are made, not from a box. The guacamole is fresh and the queso was so creamy and flavorful. The chips are thin and crispy. We also ordered a taco salad. The taco shell, again, homemade and they give you separate ingredients to mix with the produce the way you want it. Everything is cooked to perfection. You have some crunch in the onions, the cheese is the real shredded deal. We love this place and will definitely be ordering from there again.
