A friend and I were in town for a conference recently and wanted to grab a quick dinner in the Gaslamp Quarter. We stopped in here and are so glad we did! I ordered a caesar salad with chicken and my friend ordered the gumbo with rice. Just after taking our order, our server came back and reminded me of the romaine lettuce recall, and asked if it'd be okay if my salad was made with mixed greens. I was totally okay with that, and so our food soon came and it was to. die. for. I think the caesar dressing must be homemade because it was divine. I ate every bite! And my friend did the same! Overall, we were super pleased with our meal here, and recommend this place to anyone! :)

Highly recommend the prosciutto flatbread. Egg was appropriately runny, arugula was fresh -- an all around very tasty flatbread. One of the best I've ever had!

An early dinner to avoid the crowds of Gaslamp area. The 16oz Pork Chop was fantastic. The white bean relish very tasty. The beef burger with the chili aioli was very good. Sweet potato ravioli was also extremely tasty. This restaurant deserves a return visit.

Had a very good burger and fries . Staff was very friendly. Fun ,outgoing place with large bar and lots of tv’s. Good food, good atmosphere!

The restaurant is comfortable and not too loud to hear conversations. The food was pretty good. Had a great time. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was a lot of fun. All delicious, so would recommend.

Stumbled upon this place while in the Gaslamp Quarter. Sat outside. Greeted immediately. Our selections were highly enjoyable. The blackened chicken wrap was HUGE. The hummus was awesome. Get the sweet potato fries. So tasty. Chicken wings yum. And the avocado toast was our California perfection. Loved this place and the cool atmosphere. Glad we stopped in. Picked up a scooter outside when we were done 👍🏻

My first time in San Diego and I was wallking around the Gaslight District. Happy Hour was in effect and I tried the "Principal Rooney" cocktail and the Mushroom flatbread. I didn't know what to expect as there were so many restaurants offering Happy Hour. I was pleasantly suprised with the quality of the drink and the food.

We stopped in for lunch and really enjoyed it. We were impressed with their draft beer selection and the waitress’s knowledge of the choices. The food was very good and the service was great. There staff was helpful to each other. Enjoyed this very much.

Go for a beverage on the patio and definitely stay for the flatbread. Toppings are piled high on the slightly doughy yet pleasingly crispy crust. We opted for Pesto chicken flatbread and the southern style jambalaya with bottomless mimosas. We people watched and ate and enjoyed! The service was excellent and the whole experience a must do! Prices are reasonably modest for the amount of food.

Terrible service. Sat for 20+ min before we even got water. Food ok. Several tables around us seated after us yet served before us. Very chaotic. Took another 45 min to get our food. Don’t bother, too many other restaurants in area to choose from

Decor: Rustic, woody inside. Covered patio "booths" very comfortable. Menu: During Saturday brunch, typical choices like chicken & waffles, benedict, burgers, sandwiches, & salads. Not so typical choices like gumbo & flatbreads. Many choices. Service: Friendly and attentive. Quality: Shrimp and grits was generally good, accompanied by fresh tomatoes. Not a fan of the andouille - more like a "processed" version. Nice sangria. The cheddar burger was cooked nicely - truly medium. The beer flight enjoyed with that was also good. Satisfying portions. Value: Good. For better than average bar food with a view on a nice weekend day, this is a great place to try out.

My friends and I dined at the Union Kitchen and Tap prior to the Padres game. We waited about 15 mins. before we were seated. Nice ambiance. Parking is scarce. The restaurant offers an extensive menu. We ordered the following entrees and sides: (2) shrimp and grits; (1) fisherman stew; (1) chicken tenders/fries entre; brussel sprouts and mac and cheese. We enjoyed our meal, however, the portions were small. Service was a little slow. Please be aware that the restaurant charges a 4% service charge to your bill. Food is moderately priced.

I’ve eaten at this restaurant many times in the past few years as I live just a couple blocks away. Food is reliable, service reasonably good, jambalaya particularly good for California, beer selection OK, lots of TV’s for sports. My gripe is ownership’s recent decision to fleece customers with a 4% “Gaslamp Surcharge” that you find out about when you get your bill. Staff was coached by management to try to respond to customer complaints about the charge but the several I spoke too all gave different answers, one said it was a historic city tax (it is not). It’s just a hidden price increase, like resort fees at hotels. Airlines played this game for years until federal government regulated them to show total prices with all charges on their website prices. I’d have no problem paying 4% higher prices if they would just include it in higher menu prices, but the surcharge deception is annoying and as a result they have lost a good customer that has spent thousands of dollars with many large groups at this restaurant over the years. I’m sure management will respond with some excuse about minimum wage increasing and perhaps somewhere in small font at the bottom of the menu where no one looks the fee is disclosed, but come on folks, be transparent! I own a business, my labor costs and employee benefits increase significantly too, and I have to raise my prices without resorting to hidden trickery. Union employee said all gas lamp restaurants have to pay the tax which is false, there is no special 4% tax and the restaurant across the street does not add a surcharge to customer bills. I’ve dined all over the gas lamp quarter and this is the first time I’ve run into this, although I understand some other sneaky operators do the same thing, and I won’t be dining at their restaurants either. I understand Union started adding the charge in the past several months, remove it and save your reputation!

Cool burgers at medium cook and the salad of my Girlfried - exactly in the point!! We have a great day in San Diego and enjoy a lot this part of the day.

My wife and I stopped here for lunch and got a lovely seat outside. Out server Keith was super friendly and the food was good. It's worth a stop.

I had two great experiences at Union Kitchen & Tap during a short stay in San Diego. A friend and I had a great salad, a great burger, and delicious drinks one evening. So the next evening, because I had been the salad eater--I returned in hopes of having a burger as delicious as his looked the evening before. Score. Nice service and good drinks, too.

We stopped in for a quick lunch while in the Gaslamp district. The burger was awesome, the tomato was super good on the burger giving it a great taste, good and juicy! Great personal service.

Gaslamp Restaurant with a vibe. Centrally located with airy outside seating. Great for larger groups. Everyone is pleasant.

Lively restaurant in the Gaslamp district, we were really in the mood for a steak and this offered an 8oz fillet steak for US$35+tax which compared to other restaurants was an amazing price. Other restaurants in the area are charging $50+ and I don't think they'd be any better than we had at Union Kitchen and Tap. The steak was fantastic we shared a fries which was sufficient for both of us along with a side of roasted Brussel sprouts with bacon, glazed with hot sauce and maple syrup, recommended by our server. They also serve the lovely Sioux City root beer which I really miss now back in the UK. Great food and service.

Great brunch. Worked perfectly for a work brunch with a large group. Good mix of food to suit everyone's tastes. If it weren't a work trip I would have partaken in the bottomless mimosa's!

Not comfortable - NO AC- in hot August afternoon , okay food , and very RUDE staff- will likely never return

First time here and it wasn't disappointing, the Chicken and Waffled is unbelievably good, made with cornbread batter that gives is an amazing flavor. Make sure to get the bottomless memosa to make it a full day. Deliscious and filling. Only real issue if I have to list one is the service moves a little slow. I had a reservation and still had to wait 15min to get a table and even then it took another 10-15min to get my order taken.

We were at the union kitchen the night of the ncaa finals. They had the game on on several TVs I had the mushroom flatbread and white sangria, both were excellent. My son loved his bison burger.

As you walk around 4th/5th/6th Street in the Gaslight area of SanDiego you are spoilt for choice of which restaurant to use. Many of them are similar in offering and you therefore are on a hit or miss approach unless you have been recommended. We stopped that this bar/restaurant by chance. It’s a sports theme that is quite lively but also has a good menu. Not cheap but we found it value for money. Service was attentive although the staff are very busy so you do need to ask for another drink from time to time. The food was good, hot and tasty. We had a portion of Gumbo and Jerk Chicken and enjoyed what we had. Give it a go.

Stopped by for a bite on a Monday afternoon. Chose this place out of the plethora of options in the Gaslamp Quarter because it seemed to be the most popular of any in the area. I had the prosciutto flatbread which was very good. Service was ok but the waitress seemed unenthusiastic.

Salmon was like rubber, pork was $27 and dry. Awful. Restaurant was not clean, everything was salty. Would not return.

We came here after a Padres games for a late dinner....was pleasantly surprised! Had the Union burger which was very good, fresh bun and perfectly cooked with bacon and cheese....a ton of fries which were very good as well. Also had the strip steak which was excellent....great beer list and very lively atmosphere. They have outdoor seating and TV's to watch sports. Service was fast and friendly. I would recommend and would come back.

Stopped at Union for dinner before a Padres game on a Monday night. We arrived pretty early, so there was no wait. The vibe was fun and has the perfect location for a pre-game dinner. Our server was OK, but not really friendly. The prices seemed especially high for the quantity that we received.....$26 burger and friends, $20 flatbread. Happy hour prices are not available on gamedays. So, overall, no major complaints, but I would try someplace else next time.

This was our favorite spot in the Gaslamp. We had appetizers and drinks here our first night on our trip. Appetizers were amazing and had a great selection. Highly recommend the cornbread. Was the best I've had anywhere! We made reservations to come back with a large group for breakfast and bottomless mimosas. We had an amazing breakfast and and the atmosphere was very accomodating to our large group of 12.

My husband and I watched a conference final football game here during our baby moon trip - we were just walking around and decided to stop in before we went to dinner. The bar tender made me two delicious mock tails. The food was surprisingly upscale and very good! Even our fries had seasoning and were cooked to perfection with garlic aioli dipping sauce. There are huge TVs everywhere and comfortable seating and the customer service was great. Highly recommend!

I walked in at about 3 PM on a Tuesday. I was here on business and my meeting got out early. I was able to get a Caesar salad with grilled salmon and an IPA for $30. Emily was the server. She was very pleasant and helpful. The salad had a variety of local tomatoes. The novelty of that made a nice treat.

This place has options for vegan people. But, I must say, Natalie, my waitress had a very pleasant cheerful demeanor. It's been awhile since I've had such a nice waitress! She was also very accommodating when I thought I wanted to change my order. Any restaurant would do good having her on their staff. I only hope Union Kitchen appreciates this. I had the mac & cheese with bacon bits inside. The noodles were very heavy. It was pretty tasty and rich. Don't let the bowl fool you, it is actually a huge portion. Overall, a pleasant experience.

After attending Art San Diego at the Convention Center, my husband and I strolled down the street to get a bit to eat and decided to try Union Kitchen & Tap. It was a fairly warm Friday night due to the Santa Ana winds and so all the outdoor seating was taken, so we sat indoors. Our waiter was friendly and talkative. There are quite a few TV screens and lots of sports watching options. I had the Padre hamburger, it was cooked as ordered and had a good spicey taste. My husband had the Union burger and enjoyed it. There are many craft beer options, especially if you like IPAs. My husband enjoyed his beer tasting flight - cleverly served in the shape of the state of California. I would have preferred some other choices beyond IPAs. The crowd seemed to be a mix of tourists and locals, which is a good thing!

Vacationing in San Diego with the family and looking for somewhere to eat Thanksgiving dinner. Union had a great one price holiday meal that was awesome. I really dont care for cranberry sauce but they had a sauce that was incredible, I ate all of it! Thanks for making out holiday memorable with a delicious meal!

Very eclectic menu from jerk chicken to gumbo. Food was better than I expected with such a wide menu. Kids menu good as well.

We were a party of 5, 6 if we include our little dog. We sat outdoors and they were very accommodating to our dog. Service was great and food was very good. Definitely a come back next time we are in town.

If you score a seat outside you can soak up the atmosphere of the Gaslight District and enjoy a great selection of meals.

I want to give a special shout out to Olivia H. I took a group of 7 business man we were 35 minutes late for our reservation through nobody's fault, Olivia was awesome still seated us took great care of us I just want you to know what kind of an outstanding employer you have their. I will definitely bring people back to the Union tap Add you have Olivia H to thank for that I think it's time to give her a review and a raise!

We had drinks and appetizers here. The beer selection was great. Many different kinds. The food was good and reasonably priced. Our server was great and we sat outside. The weather was perfect.

While menu was average bar food, this is not the place to go for gluten free dining. Just a few options and while dairy free was accommodated, it was sub par. Service left a lot to be desired and I felt that we mights as well be at a chain restaurant. All in all, not impressed and will not be back

Stay away from this place and their deceptive pricing. A group of us went there for a casual dinner and we were shocked to see a 4% add on junk fee added to our bill. Why? If their costs have gone up then don't be so cheap and simply reprint the menu but don't try a sneaky and deceptive move to add on a hidden fee. Our waitress said it was disclosed on the menu in tiny print at the bottom and that people do not notice. I'm not sure why this restaurant can't make money charging $21. for a basic burger and fries. The food was ok but nothing special. I resent a business making a political statement with my wallet and for that reason I'm rating Union Kitchen as a one star. Needless to say we will not be going back. We deducted the 4% from out tip and if our waitress doesn't like it she can take it up with the restaurant manager.

Great place to go for a night out with hubby. Great drinks and food was good. Outdoor seating on a cool night would be awesome, we sat inside and enjoyed people watching with wonderful burgers

Perfectly located in the hear of Gaslamp, the Union offers outdoor seating and great lunch options. Ate here twice and both times the food was very good and service is prompt and friendly. Nashville Hot Chicken and Blue crab cakes were standouts.

Stopped in for a dinner and everything about this place was great. Great location in the Gaslamp district. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and alot of TVs inside to watch a variety of different sporting events. The beer menu was varied with a combination of local, craft and national brews. The menu was varied. The one thing that surprised me is that I expected to see a lot of sandwiches and the menu had a few of everything. With that said I had this crazy share dish that was absolutely delicious and addictive. It was basically pulled rib meat on French fries smothered in cheese. IT WAS DELICIOUS. Probably terrible for my diet, but wonderful to eat. I would definitely come back to this place, Great beer, great food, friendly servers and good price for downtown in a city.

Choice is limited to typical American dishes. Nothing extraordinary for European tourists. Not stunning in taste. For us, the restaurant is very overrated. Very loud atmosphere.

Stopped in solo for a late lunch while attending a conference down the street at the convention center. No problem getting a seat mid weekday. Service was excellent. Cesar salad was surprisingly good. Nice selection of local beers. Hit the spot, all around.

Stopped by after the convention. We had the shrimp and grits as well as the gumbo. Both tasted wonderful and I feel are homemade. Generous portions. Wait staff was friendly and accommodating. Drinks were good. Would definitely recommend

We had a quick lunch here during trade show. We actually split a hamburger and fries that was really good. It was a late lunch so the place was pretty slow. Service was good. Pretty good atmosphere in the place. We had walked past the night before and the place was happening. So it served its purpose but probably not the best time to do a review.

Union Kitchen & Tap offers some really good pub and American style food options. The fish & chips were hot and crispy. Everything was very fresh and the service was attentive. I stopped in for lunch while in San Diego for a conference. It's walkable from nearby hotels and the convention center. Good location and great food. I would definitely visit again.

had the Local Greens salad, which was ok. also had the Avocado Toast. I barely ate it. the toast was chewy but hard. the avocado was an incredibly THIN layer of mashed avocado, as thin as a layer of butter on toast. It was topped with dry arugula (no dressing of any kind, so it was plain dry and bitter) and a sunny side up egg. I ate the egg. The rest was left nearly untouched because I never send food back... Service was terrible. I never got my drink refilled and nobody ever asked me if my food was ok.

Hip Gas-lamp remodel. Cool design...a mixture of new while preserving much of the history...nicely open to the outdoors. Really enjoyed our visit...big group well taken care of...food was excellent...good selection of beer.

I got in a lot of steps walking all up the Gas Lamp district and then over to the Midway on the waterfront, so was ready for some good food at lunchtime. Kathy up at the bar was awesome, and I fell for the gumbo poutine, which was absolutely killer ! Easily a dish for two unless you have a big appetite, it was nothing short of decadent ! I suspect there are a lot of other happy surprises on the menu as well !

I had the Union sangria and the BBQ chicken flatbread. I wanted the mushroom Flatbread but they were sold out so I tried the BBQ one instead. The sauce was nicely balanced and not overbearing. The sangria tasted more like a spritzer than a traditional sangria, but it wasn't bad. The server was attentive and overall it was a good experience.

Had one of the best burgers here. I would definitely return when I’m back in town. Great place to just hang out and have a beer with great food.

Visited with a colleague from our conference and were greeted by two very friendly hostesses. They seated us, as requested, on the patio and the seats were comfy. Friendly waitress who took good care of us. My steak and frites was tasty and cooked to order, and the crepe brûlée I had after was quite good, just not as solid as I generally like it. Had a pleasant dinner with good service.

Had lunch here during a conference and the food was amazing! The outdoor seating was so comfortable and the atmosphere was relaxing. I had the fish tacos and I have to say they are probably the best fish tacos I've ever eaten!

We visited here whilst on vacation in San Diago . It was a busy Tuesday night as the Padres were playing and this is very near to Pectco Park . I would recommend to book a table you can sit inside or out. Even though busy service excellent all night . Cocktails were good at reasonable prices good selection. Food was great highly recommend steak frites burgers cooked how you like with sweet potatoe fries . Deserts good to the giant cookie is fab as is peach crumble recommend both. Great place to eat at reasonable prices in the gaslamp

It's not far from the San Diego Convention Center and was convenient for a lunch break. It is nice trendy looking restaurant and you can sit inside or outside along 5th Ave. The vibe along the street is very vibrant and alive; a good place to be. The server was very nice and helpful. The menu had a few handcrafted burgers and sandwiches and I tried the Union Burger. Certainly a premium burger with a premium price. It was a good burger. This is one of the Gaslamp Quarter restaurants that charges a "Gaslamp Surcharge" which adds an additional 4% to your bill, which is supposedly because of the higher minimum wage requirements in San Diego. I would prefer that they just raise the price and not surprise me when the bill arrives.

UK would ideally be a crowd-pleaser, but if it wasn’t for a group decision, I would not have returned for another meal. I stopped by for brunch, then dinner, and experienced highs and lows. Like an awesome Bloody Mary and a delicious kale salad - but the salad cost an extra few dollars just so we could share it. Or my breakfast order - on which they would not accommodate any gluten-free substitutions (but they did add fruit, which I appreciated). My husband’s burger (requested medium) was served to him rare, and my Brussels sprouts weren’t cooked thoroughly. They also had karaoke at night which was odd because it was quiet in the restaurant. Anyway - you might have a good average American meal here, just prepare for sub-par service, or go somewhere else with more consistent reviews.

Just got into San Diego and needed a bite. Well more than just a bite for sure. The original burger was great and wife’s Avo toast yummy! A must for a great meal!

This wonderful restaurant has very comfortable outdoor seating, great service, excellent fresh beer selection, delicious food and very good prices. Highly recommend!

Great spot, delicious food, and polite and attentive server. BUT I won't be going back due to the addition of a 4% "Gaslamp surcharge" which the server told me a) was not optional and b) was disclosed on the menu. Disclosed maybe but obvious for sure not, as there were three of us and none of us noticed it when we ordered. Why not just be transparent with the price of the menu? Or put a really big bright disclosure insert in the menu? I am voting with my $ and will support restaurants that price honestly up front. (For those wondering, I did not reduce my tip because I did not want the server to be shorted on their tip).

Nice place and appears popular. Such was pretty good with upscale pub grub. We tried the BLTA sandwich, the Short Rib Sandwich and the Prosciutto Flatbread. Hard to pick which restaurant to eat at thee in the Gaslamp district, but this is worth the try.

Located right on “Main Street” of the Gaslamp district, this restaurant offers very comfortable outdoor seating. It is mainly a burger and beer restaurant, not many options beyond that. The staff is kind but not necessarily efficient. It is a very busy and noisy place, food is decent. Expensive for what you're getting. Just a place to stop for a drink and a quick meal to keep on touring.

Stopped in for early drinks before nearby restaurants opened. Sat at bar for about half hour. Great drinks and friendly service!

Was walking by and hungry, so I stopped to give it a go. The fish and chips were good. Clearly not pre-made boxed fish, it was battered in the kitchen. The fries were good and hot, not steak fries so bonus there. The cole slaw was unique and worthy as well.

After a long day of enjoying the sights and walking we were looking for a happy hour spot. I did enjoy my Voodoo Ranger Juicy Haze which was not "happy hour price," good, little pricey; surprise.

The food is okay. Meatballs were really good, but burgers and other food was just average. Drinks were okay.

I had dinner at this place with some American colleagues while attending a conference at a nearby hotel. We were seated in a big table with tall but very confortable chairs. Our server was very nice and he recommended me the Ballast point IPA and the spicy burger with jalapeños. The IPA was awesome, the burger was a bit spicy but cooked to perfection. The place is really well appointed and the music was great (Red hot Chilli Peppers, Pearl Jam, etc...). Everybody seem very happy with their food and we had a great time talking politics, gossip and catching up...

Had to pop in and say the wings where great here. But what made it the best was the bartenders. Cant remember her name but both where attentive and knew their craft well. Next time in SD I will be back!

Well I chose not to get the union burger and selected the fish and chips instead. Pretty good but wish I had gotten the union burger. Really nice to sit outside in February and eat.

My date wanted to get his karaoke on, so we ended up here and had a very fun, jovial night of loud singing over drinks. The staff were friendly and made sure our glasses were kept full. Regrettably I didn't eat anything from the menu, The small crowd that gathered there (it was a weeknight), merged together to singalongs, and it became a very supportive, happily drunk convergence of strangers.

With indoor and outdoor seating this pub provides a flexible dining experience. The food was decent in price and mediocre in taste. They did have some game day specials on the menu.

Enjoyed a relaxing lunch including beer and wings at Union Kitchen. Ate at the outdoor seating area, live band. Recommended 👍

We came into this place with 30 minutes til closing and we were served just as if they had just opened. The food was very good and the service was great. I done remember the waiter’s name but that is only because I waited too long to write this and my memory is at fault. LOL.

We came here for lunch and really enjoyed our meals. The bill for 5 people though came to $100 with tip, but no drinks. So, the prices may be a bit higher than one would normally want to spend for lunch.

In town for a convention and ate at many restaurants in the Gas Lamp district. Union Kitchen is easily within walking distance to grab a quick lunch as an option to what they sell in the convention center itself. I don’t drink but heard that they have a nice selection of beers on tap. Nice outdoor seating as well.

Stayed in the Gaslamp Quarter for 3 nights and ate 2 out of our 3 dinners here AND ordered the same meal. The sweet potato and pesto ravioli with pomegranate was out of this world. There were bursts of color and flavor as I enjoyed every single bite. Wine was delicious and service was stellar. The outside booth allowed us to enjoy the historic district’s eclectic atmosphere. Shout out to our servers Jessica and Junior who were excellent, friendly and made our visits quite enjoyable.

After going into another restaurant nearby and no server showing up, we choose this one instead and so glad we did. There was football on the TVs, it wasn’t overly loud, the service was excellent, the food was very good. At our table we had the hummus appetizer - very good. We had an order of the meatball and pasta appetizer (ordered as a meal) and it was definitely enough for a dinner. Also ordered the BBQ chicken flatbread - it was excellent! Best I’ve had - loved the peach BBQ sauce and the crunchy crust!

Great place ! Interesting dishes, for sure get the. Hummus. Wines are 1/2 off on Wednesday, even the cellar bottles..

Had a night out in the Gaslamp district this Saturday night. Went here for a drink to find out that they were out of Kahlua or Tia Maria to make a Kahlua and cream or a Black Russian. I know these may not be popular drinks but if you are a full bar and you are out of these liquors then it directly reflects on poor management in ordering. The service was good but not great. Saw are waitress twice in about an hour. Once to order and once to pay. More drinks may have been ordered had they been more attentive. Not likely to ever return considering there are so many places to choose from.

Completely found by accident after a long day walking around San Diego.. Another great find, the food was delicious ..Union Burger was huge and mouth watering, my son had the Union Gumbo which was unique... still raving about that one... food was plentiful and delicious ... highly recommend if you are in the area... Thanks Maya for the great recommendations...

We needed a mid priced place downtown to meet my son and his Navy buddies. This place ended up being perfect. We were able to make reservations for 8. Great selection of beers, cocktails and wine. Limited menu but we had no problems finding something to order. Food was all good and service was great.

Good menu with many favorites. Fantastic chicken soup. Not salty and generous serving. We both had the house salad. A heaping bowl with crisp cold greens and different types of small tomatoes. Fried egg on top.k We also had grilled chicken on it. Berry vinaigrette dressing was tasty. Pleasant server.

Went there 2 weeks ago for drinks with a group of friends and even though we didn't make a reservation upfront, we manage to get a nice table outside on the terrace. The fresh juice was great and so were the beers. The staff was really friendly too. Would certainly recommend this place!

First visit here and one of the best venues for food and drink since arriving in San Diego. Excellent friendly and attentive service. Good quality food and craft beers and reasonable prices as San Diego can be a bit on the expensive side. I had a burger, my wife a steak and all two meals were pretty much perfection. Would happily recommend.

We stopped in for a burger and beer one afternoon and were able to sit at one of the outdoor booths. There was a block party setting up outside and we were told that the kitchen would only be open for another half hour due to someone renting out the entire restaurant for the party. They didn’t make us feel rushed and we were able to enjoy our meal other than having to listen to the constant beeping of the scissor lift that was creeping around on the sidewalk next to us. This was not the fault of the restaurant though. We got a Union Burger and Bacon Mac & Cheese, both of which were really good. The burger had a fried egg on it, which I didn’t realize or I would have asked that it be cooked fully. As it was the yolk went everywhere and I had to end up eating the last half of the burger with a fork which wasn’t the end of the world. I think that we would have enjoyed this place more on a regular night where we could have taken our time and had a few more drinks, but the block party set up seemed to be interrupting the normal operation of many of the restaurants up and down the street. I guess it was just bad timing on our part. Also they add 4% to your bill as a surcharge so just be aware of that.

Love this place!!! Great place to hang out. Perfect location!! Order the wings!! Goes great with an IPA

The drinks were decent, the food was not. We ordered Wings (they burned them up) and fries (soggy little things). On top of that, our server was very grumpy - rarely came by, seemed annoyed when we asked for something (napkins for the Wings, for example, because he didn't bring any), was even annoyed when we asked for the tab. It was clear he had better things to do! Haha! Won't be going back for sure!

We visited Union for some post baseball drinks when we were in San Diego in August 2019. As we were walking away from Petco Park we found Union and it looked really chilled and a nice place to get out of the sun and have a drink. The choice of draft beers was great as I love a draft beer. But being in San Diego you have to expect a great range of beers. Many were on deals as well which was a bonus. My wife loved the cocktails on offer, and sampled a couple. My 6 year old loved the chocolate milkshakes. The staff were really friendly and chatty. A nice vibe, good quality drinks, and a nice setting

Beer, Burgers, and TVs turned to sports channels. But it’s in a cool location in San Diego’s Gaslamp District, the wait staff is friendly and efficient, and the vibe is good. I liked my Union Burger very much and my colleague’s dinner salad with shrimp looked great. However the coleslaw that came with my burger was strangely not coleslawy—and I couldn’t get with it no matter how hard I tried. Based on purple cabbage plus what might have been kale, plus lots of poppy seeds, all of which added up to a dryish raw salad that wasn’t coleslaw. Still, it was a pleasant meal in a pleasant location, that was a bit too expensive for what we ordered.

Dark and grandiose open dining room with tall ceilings. We, three, ordered the pork chop, tuna, and tofu dishes. The person ordering the tofu said her dish was excellent and so did the one ordering the tuna. My pork chop dish had a lot going on, perhaps, too much, with apples, kale, and onion as toppings but the pork was not seasoned.

We had a lovely meal here when staying in San Diego. We were worried with it being a Friday night it would be too busy, but we turned up early and no problem. We started with the homemade hummus, which was divine, careful though it’s heavy on the garlic. I then went for the bison and blue burger, which was very rich and tasty. My partner had one of the flatbreads which he said was delicious. We both had a couple of glasses of wine, which did push the price of the bill up, I think it may have been cheaper if we had bought the full bottle. However a great and tasty meal, with very friendly staff.

This is a great place to enjoy a relaxing dinner, while having a beer and watching a game. Indoor outdoor dining, good vibe. Will return. Check it out when your at Gaslamp District. Food and beer delicious.

By far, this is my favorite place to hangout with my coworkers, eat a nice dinner and have some drinks. Good service and fantastic food.

Beautiful pub in the heart of Gaslamp. Service not exactly fast, but more than acceptable, good quality dishes. Costs a wire higher than average. But you're on gaslamp

This was simply one of the best burgers I've had in a very long time. Truly delicious. The waitress was from the East Coast and we chatted a bit. She suggested the 805 beer which is now on my list of beers to repeat. If you have short legs, you may want to skip the high tables outside. My guest struggled with it as her legs dangled the entire meal (not remotely comfy).

Stopped by while looking around the gaslamp district, hoping to find a place for light dinner or even just tapas. Stumbled on this place and what a gem. The flat breads were great, the poke was terrific, service excellent, and wine choices great! Couldn't ask for anything better

We came in and we’re sat immediately which was awesome. We sat there for almost 10 minutes before someone came to greet us. Our food was really good. We arrived for brunch and had the chicken and waffles (excellent), breakfast flatbread (exceptional) and a biscuit... man did that biscuit look and smell good. Unfortunately the outside was done, the inside was almost raw dough still. When our server came back we let her know. Though she was extremely kind she offered no remedy. This place could’ve easily gotten 5 stars if the service wasn’t so slow and the biscuit raw. Cool place though.

Stopped by here recently while at a conference. The place is really cool inside. They also have outdoor seating. I got a hamburger that was so good. Meat was very fresh with crispy bacon on it. Lots of beers and liquors to choose from too. Great atmosphere. I really enjoyed it.

Awesome atmosphere, music, watch a game plus amazing entree selection. Pretty good selection of craft brews, tried a beer flight and had the shrimp and grits. Everything was great!

Straight out PATHETIC! Ordered chicken tenders ( 4 according to their menu) , waited 45 minutes until they showed up with a plate of fried bread crumbs with barely any sign of meat. I sent the plate back and they apologized saying they run out of chicken!!! Any normal restaurant would have suggest a different meal, but no, they tried to sell me a plate of fried crumbs. Cherry on the cake: my wife ordered a vegan plate with quinoa… no luck there either. They showed up with a plate of boiled white rice. Too bad I have to give at least one star, ZERO would have been more appropriate.

Love this place. Great beer selection and great outside seating. Sit, drink and soak up the sunshine, whilst watching life on 5th go by. Very close to Convention Centre so gets busy + is a popular eatery.

I enjoyed my lunch at Union Kitchen & Tap. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, and the food was delicious! Grilled shrimp were huge and well seasoned, and the baby kale salad was incredible. The pickled bing cherries were so unique. The portions were so large that there could easily be leftovers (my one disappointment was that I don't have a fridge to store anything while traveling). I would visit here again if in the area.

Stopped in for a quick lunch while shopping in the area. The salads were great. The bartender waited on us (although we sat at a table) and was very accommodating. He kept our drinks refilled.

Sat out on the patio for some great people watching. Good breakfast and great service. Closet to convention center and everything else.

Great food, large portions, good service. Sat outside for brunch in October - very pleasant. Sat inside for dinner - good atmosphere.

Very cool atmosphere, the food was ok, but huge portions! In the middle of the Gaslamp District with outdoor seating right on the street which is really cool.

What a joke of a place. Sit you at a table and several waiters just walk by and do their best not to look at you. Sit for their for 10 minuets and this keep going on. We get up and leave and tell the hostess about it and she looks at us like so. Don’t waste your time going to this place .

Came in with my son looking for a great meal after a day at the beach. Very welcoming and casual with comfort seating/plenty of TV’s. Ordered the gumbo with added crawfish, which was delicious. Son ordered wings with fries and he loved them both.

The gals at the hostess station were very accommodating for our group of 13. We got to sit in the back dining room, and when we finally got a server, the service was excellent and friendly. The Avocado Toast plate and omelette was terrific! Didn't do the unlimited mimosas but ordered two with cranberry and they don't use cheap champagne like other places. We all enjoyed our food and they were very friendly. Will be back for sure!

We had lunch of fish tacos and a blackened chicken wrap. Both were good, service was friendly and we were lucky to beat the crowds. close to convention center in gaslamp area.

Union Kitchen & Tap serves good burgers and fries in a relaxing atmosphere. The restaurant has a nice decor and is very clean. The service is good. We had house salads with Union burgers which were so big that I had to eat mine with a knife and fork! The sweet potato fries were hot and tasty!

I enjoy this place enough that I pretty much make it a point to visit it when I am in downtown San Diego. Great beers, great service, and great food. You have a lot of choices here, this one is a good one!

Wonderful salads. Daily soup was Tomato Bisque, it was sooo good. Avocado Toast was perfect. A little pricey but would definitely come back.

The burger I had (the Union Burger ordered medium) was burnt, while the two slices of bacon were cold and half cooked. The service was great. The food was not.

Had lunch here whilst visiting San Diego. Very pleasant setting. We sat outside. Wide selection of beers. Great pineapple margarita. Food was good. Service only reason 4*, wasn’t overly friendly and a bit abrupt.

Bottom line first: Nice place to eat at, totally worth the $. Nice burgers, and the chef actually knows the difference between medium and medium-well done hamburger. The place also has a nice Irish Stout (finally found a decent stout in San Diego. My heart goes to you all, Stout drinkers, San Diego doesn't offer much beyond pale ales and unfiltered Belgian beers). Location: Historical Gas Lamp District. Service: kind. Music: Not annoying. Prices: Well, California is expensive, so yeah, expect Beer and Burger to cost you about 25$+. Oh and note that prices in menu do nit include taxes, which they gave no less than 3. Sell tax, Gas Lamp District thing and food serving thing. Frankly I find this annoying - I'd prefer to see hiw much stuff will cost in the advance in the menu, but it would appear it's 'normal' here. Suggested: Alehouse Burger with fries + Irish Stout.

Stopped in for Saturday brunch and was pleasantly surprised to learn about bottomless mimosas for $15 - and they were great! Generous with the champagne, just like we make them at home! Also had the green omelet which was good, but nothing great and hubby had a burger which he said was pretty good. Service was good, refills were timely and overall pretty attentive. The location is perfect, in the heart of Gaslamp, with lots of people watching, TVs and a nice patio with comfy seats! We sat out on the patio which I'd highly recommend (dogs are allowed on the patio). Definitely recommend for the atmosphere!

Great food and service. Nice spot for brunch and bottomless mimosas. Watch the people going by and enjoy the sun.

Enjoyed a casual dinner here and despite being a large group, the meals arrived promptly and everyone enjoyed their choices. Very good selection of all kinds of beers also delighted the group.

Great location in the Gaslamp Quarter. Has outside tables, a large dining area, and a large bar. Bar service was good, with regular prices for the area. Has lots of craft beers and samplers. Good variety on tap. Lots of tvs and lots of specialty drinks. Nice urban hip place.

Kind of went in for a late night bite with a group of 6. We were seated quick and service was prompt. Even though our visit will not stand out as the high lite of our trip, I will say we all enjoyed the food. I had the char- burger and it was really tasty. Also came with sweet potato fries that were very good. Definitely would go back.

If for any reason you need to charge an extra 4% due to increased costs, just add it to the prices already in your menu. At least it was disclosed in the menu, which saves this place from getting an automatic terrible. Also, serve Prosecco in the proper glass.

And if you’re a Cowboys fan, it’s San Diego’s official Dallas Cowboys Bar! Super Brunch menu. Good atmosphere, service, food.

Met friends there to hang out and watch the football game. Nice sports bar great atmosphere. Had a lot of fun. Great time. The food wasn't the greatest but it's a sports bar so you get what you get. The staff and waitresses were extremely friendly.

We arrived looking forward to good American food. Ordered drinks and happily waited for our food. After 30 minutes we discussed how it was taking a long time but we were happy to wait for good, freshly cooked food. Both of our dishes arrived cold! I think what was ‘the icing on the cake’ was that no member of staff apologised!! We paid for our drinks and left.

Food was a bit pricey but good. Place is quite busy but very convenient to San Diego Convention Center.

We were there with a group but that didn't matter, the staff was attentive to the details and very friendly. The food all came out with impeckable timing and was delicious! Flatbread, fries with spicy mustard and the Jamacian jerk chicken was great and the drinks were good and monitored very well by the staff at all of our tables.

Had the wings as a starter and the wild boar ragu as my meal with a side of fries. The fries are good, and drink specials were good too.

Lots of seating but crowded so wait can be long. Service was friendly. Food was good. Place is casual. The family started with wings and cornbread. They had salads and other items and I had the açai bowl. Not a lot of vegan and gf options but my bowl was good.

My husband and I were looking for a bar/restaurant to watch the World Cup (Croatia vs. Russia)..anyhow, we noticed that the restaurant was practically empty. We had 2 orders of breakfast...eggs...potatoes,, bread, bacon, 1 coffee, and 1 beer. Total was about 40.00. Yes, kind of expensive but restaurant is located in the heart of downtown San Diego. Our bartender was friendly and talked to us for a while (while still working). I really enjoyed my time here..will be back.

Fun stop for a group dinner. Good apps, food, and drinks. Got a kick out of the theme. Reservations easy on Open Table. Thank you very much!

Great food & atmosphere We had an evening meal out here & thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was very good and not too expensive as were the drinks. I tried selection of small beers ì think they called them flights or something similar & I would recommend this as you get to try several different ones. The staff were helpful attentive and fun. I would definitely return

This restaurant is in the Gaslamp Quarter, and easy to find. Their menu is typical American style. I ordered .”Union burger” that they recommend on the menu. I have to confess it was just an average burger. I don’t understand why it is their signature burger. Not bad, though. But not superb.

We ate here as a family of four (2 adults and two kids under 5). Service was friendly and efficient and the food was tasty. Our kids shared a kids pizza which was enough for them. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area.

The food was good and service was good as well. But... There was a 4% Gaslamp Surcharge on the bill. When I looked at what the charge is for, its a surcharge for the cost of doing business. Instead of raising prices 4%, they tack on a 4% fee. I checked, and this is noted on the menu - in very small print. Seriously??? Because of these financial shenanigans, I won't be back. Patronize business with honest prices.

Definitely recommend it. We were looking for dinner and found this place on open table. The gumbo on the menu is what drew us here. We booked a table through open table and were seated promptly upon arrival. When we arrived they weren't busy at all. They asked if we wanted to be seated inside or outside. We chose outside with the heat lamps. Didn't catch our server's name, however, she was great. She gave us some good drink recommendations. I recommend the Maritime Mule. It was pretty strong. I had the Blueberry Mojito and it wasn't that good. My Lady enjoyed the Hot Blooded and recommends this too. We came for the Gumbo and they didn't disappoint. Honey enjoyed her gumbo and being from the south she knows good gumbo. I had the shrimp and grits and it was worth every grain. I was torn between this and the burger; our server recommended the burger. I will try the burger next time. We had quite a few drinks and our bill was about $200 before tip and it was worth it. Our server was great, the lady who looked like she was a manager came to our table to check on us, the bar was quick, the atmosphere was a casual and young professional crowd. They were playing some good music, but there was a DJ across the street that was overpowering their playlist. Will definitely return if I'm in the San Diego Area.

Very close to Petco Park, Union Kitchen &Tap is a fantastic place to go before a Padres game. The wings are outstanding and the beer is cold. Best yet, they always have specials on game days!

We were staying around the corner at the Hilton Gaslamp and came here because of the reviews. It’s not the restaurants fault that the Clemson/Alabama game was on tonight, so it was a little loud in there. We sat in the back dining room, which was quieter, until a table of young ladies celebrating someone’s birthday came in next to us. Noah, our waiter, was helpful with the menu. I had the brussels sprouts appetizer with the local green salad as my dinner. The Brussels were nicely charred with bacon (makes everything better). The local green salad was nice and fresh, with a “crispy egg“ which was a soft egg which was then deep-fried. It came with candied pecans and some cheese. My coworker had the shrimp and grits, which she said was really good. I didn’t get to try it, but she ate most of it, happily.

Been wanting to try this place out for a long time and finally made it over. We started with the Crabcakes as a sharable and split a BBQ Chicken Flatbread. Both tasted excellent. For dinner we split a burger and the gumbo. Burger was so tasty but the gumbo was kind of bland and boring. Service was a little hit and miss but overall it was a good experience. Everything was a bit pricy for what you get but likely due to being in Gaslamp they can get away with the pricing.

Their burgers were AMAZING!! They were juicy not greasy and the flavor of the meat was awesome!!! Great place to grab lunch or dinner and the service was great. Added bonus was they had great Mexican street corn as well!!

The quality of the food was very disappointing. We took buffalo wings with blue cheese. It was too spicy even for buffalo, the cheese was drowning in pieces at the bottom of the plate (tasting nothing like blue cheese) and the chicken itself was chewy. We also didn’t like the drinks. In the end the price also didn’t match the quality or service.

I was in town for a combination of conference and family holiday, so decided to revisit this relaxed restaurant/bar. The service was the usual professional and friendly. The selection of drinks was good, but if you like beer go for one of the flight selections. Most of our party had the burgers, which are always tasty and filling. Couldn't fault this place and I will be back.

After a few hours at rhe SD Auto Show, we headed across the street to the Union Kitchen & Tap in the Gaslamp. Good place with TVs, large bar selection, delicious food, and lots of space to hang out or hold special events. I ordered the Blue Lump Crab Cakes, Shelly had the Bacon Mac and Cheese, Kylee had the Union Jack Burger.

We aren’t fussy, but the service was horrible. There was a big group watching a sport game- we went there as atmosphere seemed buzzing. Woman at door seemed annoyed to see us, then table cleared but no menu, no water. We were just about to leave then our Our server came and was polite, but huge delay in getting drinks. We were served by two other people after that. Food was great, esp jerk chicken, and people watching fun. Prices good. When game ended large group were leaving, server made it clear we had to wait for all of them despite staff standing around and us asking for bill first. One person snapped at us in a rude way that when the cowboys leave everyone wants their bill. We had to sit there for at least another half hour effectively held hostage by the bill. I sympathize with busy nights, but if you can’t handle the crowd hire more staff, or only take the function and no one else. Also standing around talking while telling people they have to wait for the bill is not a good look!

Love the location, really nice interior. Friendly and attentive staff. We had the union burger and the flat bread with prosciutto, both delicious! Can recommend if you want to eat at a very cool place.

Had dinner here with a group of about 10 coworkers. We didn't have a reservation, but they quickly assembled a space for us. Beer selection was good with several IPA's. I had the steak/frites and it was perfectly done.

Came for lunch after a conference. I enjoyed the shrimp and grits. Service was good and the shrimp and grits had a nice flavor with a bit of spice.

We came here back in 2017 so decided we would visit again for old time sake. Outside seating is good and service also. Good menu, good prices and food is good too.

The service is very good and the outside tables are nice, great drinks, good food, very generous portions. The beer selection is weak for a tap house.

Very popular spot in the Gaslamp District. I was on my own and wanted something casual with some atmosphere and this was perfect. The staff is very professional but friendly. Regular checks to see that you are taken care of. I ordered the sesame tuna and it was excellent. Pricing is similar or below some other places in the area. It was busy when I was there so you may need to consider avoiding peak hours. Yes I would go back.

The reason for the rating is the noise level on the night we went. There was a large party in the bar that then moved to long tables. We were not the only other guests who found the noise off putting. The food was good but we had intended to order a bottle if champagne and decided not when the waiter said the noise would likely continue. The restaurant did have another section that was not being used, it was further away and would have allowed conversation at our table and those of other patrons.

Cold fries. Stale bun and no tomato jam on burger. Service was fine yet not that friendly for a pub environment.

To end our stayin the Gas Lamp District, we ate at this restaurant. We were seated right away and the waitress was very friendly and helpful. The food was awesome. My granddaughter had a blueberry pancake, I had a basic egg breakfast, my daughter had a great salad and my husband had a BBQ sandwich. He's an expert on BBQ and he said it was delicious. We would definately eat here again. There is outside seating as well.

Was ready to give our experience a thumbs up . Happy Hour menu drew us in and Jennifer, our server, was very good. Lagunitas IPA was SUPPOSED to be $6 during Happy Hour and check shows $8 … and WTF is ‘Gaslamp surcharge’ 4% tacked on ($1.68)????. With a tip we paid $54. $3.68 , + tax, and tip based on over-charge make me furious.

My colleagues and I were looking for a lunch place during a conference and this place was close to convention center by Gaslamp Quarter. We all had salads and were made with fresh ingredients and very tasty. It was so good that we went back for drinks after 5 and stay for dinner. Portions are generous. Their burger and pork chop were a hit! . Place is very popular, especially at night. Expect crowds in particular if there is an event at the convention center.

We had a lovely evening with friends. An incredible selection of beers and wine and the appetizers were delicious and filling. We had no need for dinner.

Had mid afternoon lunch here the last day of a week long conference. Wanted to unwind, and have a lite meal. So the street side seating and flatbread pizza were perfect. Good beer selection and great service made UKT a perfect choice. Pizza was far better than I expected. Grated parma and lots of 'shrooms were a welcomed treat. The waitress, perhaps named Brie, was among the most pleasant restaurant staff members that I encountered during the entire week, efficiently and cordially providing excellent service for the table.

Stopped here for a cold beer after touring Petco Park. Tasted so good and the ambiance at the street side table was so nice we stayed for two! Can't comment on the food, we just had the beers, but the people around us who were eating seemed satisfied. Great way to spend a sunny afternoon

Enjoyed this restaurant...grabbed a couple ice cold beers here and a delicious burger smothered with cheese and bacon. Fries, a large amount, were nicely seasoned and asked for a side of tartar sauce. The tartar sauce came complete with capers, diced pickle, and garlic chips....soooo good. Wonderful service...really friendly and helpful.

Nice patio area and plenty of space in the restaurant..we stopped for lunch and i saw this place was the Official Dallas Cowboy Bar of San Diego...being a huge fan, went back Sunday to watch the game....bru ch menu looked amazing and the mimosas were quite good. Great food and atmosphere

We had been traveling all day and walked from our hotel to Gaslamp. Saw this place and decided to give it a try. I can't tell you how far over backward they went to make our dinner enjoyable. The place was slammed and so we were helped by multiple staff to ensure all guests were taken care of, drinks brought - food ordered! I didn't realize their heat lamps didn't have a gas tank in them when I asked for it to be lit. We were a bit chilly. They didn't even hesitate and got a tank and lit it for us. I was just floored. I felt bad when I realized the lengths they had to go to for my request. It was just overall above and beyond! Highly recommend the fries, meatballs, shrimp and grits were amazing! Good drinks - bacon mac and cheese. What more do you need?

After last day of convention 6 of us ate in here and had some good beers and some nice food and the menu was good so I’d eat here again for sure, nice staff but was rather busy so not so fast but really good and not bad value for money
Go elsewhere
3 stars is generous. Lots of people on the clock, 2 people working. Sat without drinks for 45 minutes. Food looked good but we didn't get the chance to order any. There's a reason we were able to get a reservation easily.
