Great Bar with good late night food!

By jasonf1975 |

We hit this place up around 1am and they killed it with some much needed food. The late night tacos are on on point. Good drinks too. Plus the staff was super friendly.

Awesome Spot on Congress

By Lavendaret |

Great energy for new upstairs venue on Congress. We dined off food menu and received attentive service from two servers as we had several friends come & go throughout the evening, definitely a fun place to grab drinks or dine in at reasonable cost. We'll return & plan for more time to play games!

It what we thought

By Frank Q |

When seeing 4.5 stars on Trip Advisor, I expected a wonderful experience. After 3 hours I felt it was just an average experience. There are limited food choices so don’t this is a place for a nice dinner. It is mainly drinks a modest menu, a selection of games, and many televisions. It is a unique concept but we planned on eating dinner and left disappointed. A DJ came in on Saturday night and played hip hop hits. Fortunately we he volume was at a level that didn’t interfere with conversations.

Great Tacos

By LillyBee |

Stopped by cause this place looked cool and the reviews were good. Did not disappoint even though it was close to closing time. Tacos were delicious and drinks were pretty normal. The venue was pretty cool. Would have liked to have visited in the day time. Maybe next time!

Fun, cool vibe

By S4136XSdavidb |

This spot is a great place for a quick bite and a drink before or after going to the Paramount Theater which is less than a block away or just hanging out with friends The menu is limited but they had several items that were quite good. It is covered, but open to the outdoors so you can enjoy the weather without getting a sunburn. Staff is efficient and knows what they are doing. Will eat here again.

Great tacos

By LadyCinctus |

We got in fairly late, tired and hungry We were received in a friendly manner and our server tried to accommodate our picky teenager We had the chips and salsa as well as the tacos. The carnitas were outstanding. We will be back for an adult happy hour

Great taco, sauce

By Robert H |

I got the veg taco with quinoa and cauliflower with a tomatillo avocado sauce and chips. It was fantastic food, and the staff is friendly. Be sure to go there!

Fun place to celebrate!

By Mimi C |

We had a great time enjoying a brew on the roof-top bar. Dog friendly, traffic can be difficult on any afternoon and find a Parking garage!

So much better than the restaurant downstairs.

By southcarolinafam2018 |

The food was limited, but the staff and food seemed better than downstairs. I would go here and recommend to anyone.

Wine Snob

By Bobby B |

I had an organized business social with friends for a cocktail here. This a vibrant place and has some great interactive games. Right in the middle of downtown and just a few blocks away from the State Capitol. This restaurant is on the second floor of the Aloft hotel.

New Favorite spot

By Helen C |

Absolutely love Upstairs at Caroline. Drink menu had a great selection of cool cocktails and drafts for all to enjoy. I've been twice already in the past 3 days and it has a great vibe and live music too. The games are well places all around and the seating of couches to picnic tables gives it a indoor/outdoor vibe that just works perfectly in Austin. We had all the tacos and the assorted chips on the menu. Order more than one of each or you'll regret it. =)

Great, Fun Environment!

By CKTAILNERD |

We came the day after opening and had a great experience! So many games and fun cocktails. We had a great time just relaxing on the patio. Really fun space to hang out with friends!

Very Nice

By Ginger B |

It looked very nice, we did not use this place but it seemed to be a hopping spot for the younger crowd!

Great drinks & cool rooftop

By Isabelle |

The drinks and service here were really good! Our waitress was very attentive and gave good recommendations. The drinks were reasonably priced as well. The rooftop has games such as Jenga and connect 4 available as well.

Delicious Food, Great Atmosphere

By Elksmommy |

Upstairs at Caroline was delicious! Lots of taco, chips, and dip options. Prices were reasonable. Drinks were great too! The atmosphere may be one of the best parts of this place. While somewhat outdoors, it was not hot. Fun, hip, and great service.

HORRIBLE!

By Robbie E |

This may be one of the worst experiences I have ever had. The food was ok, the drinks weren’t great and the wine is overpriced. We spend $100 on drinks upstairs that may have been flavored water. But the worst part is the service. And management. The server would not provide the check itemized receipt but required us to run our cards. My tab was higher than expected but I tipped 20% because I was ready to leave and have worked in the industry. I was paying for the food, and another at our table paid for alcohol. I called the restaurant upon returning home to get an itemized copy. Not only were the checks incorrect the server automatically added gratuity to the check of 20%, without informing us. So I was charged an additional $150 on my bill plus an additional 20% tip I left. Managers have refused to make this correct. Or make anything right. Altogether $220 too much. I will not ever visit here again or recommend this restaurant to anyone. If I could give this a zero I would.

Great atmosphere, food and drinks!

By @sheelinw |

If you are in Austin you have to check out this little treasure! Get the chips and dip!! You can choose between 4 different kind of chips and 6 different dips. I tried the Yellow Corn, Flour Tortilla and Lime Salted Plantain chips with the Cheesy Ranchero Bean dip and Creamy Street Corn dip..... and OMG these munchies were AMAZINGGGG! TRY them and you're welcome :)

yess!!

By bryanna g |

love love love the Caroline. our favorite new restaurant in Austin. got to play pool and meet new people too, so much better than where we are all locked down. all the staff were so friendly and good at their job

Terrible service

By B1364EFmikel |

What terrible service. Went in sat down, sat for a while no one came over. So not knowing how it works went over to what seemed like a nice guy in a plaid shirt , asked do we order at bar or do you wait on us. He said “ I got you man” and handed me a menu and I thought 💭 cool 😎. But then completely ignored us. After a while started to look at me tripped on a backpack and walked past and waited on another table. I was going to grab him but at that point I just wanted out of there! What a dump out front, drug addicts with 💩 over sidewalks below. Terrible experience! Drove back to San Antonio to Rosario's ComidaMex & Bar, which was busier that that place and had fantastic service and food!

Must visit even if not staying at Aloft

By Ramesh K |

Casual vibe, excellent priced happy hour menu. Must visit (either for a HH or as a night lounge) if you are staying in downtown.

Fun

By Carrie B |

Fun place with great drink menu. Good for groups with games to play, comfortable chairs to hang out in, and good view of the downtown area.

Very fun and upbeat place!

By ljrapp16 |

Went here to wait for the bats. We had a great time and enjoyed our drinks and the tuna boat salad they had. The atmosphere here is upbeat and fun. There are games and people every where. It is a rooftop bar and people with smiles all over the place. The service was good and friendly.

Great location but could be better

By Gary O |

Cool location, really enjoyed the outdoor seating. Drinks were very good but wish they had beers on tap. Food was average and overpriced. Service was difficult to get, seemed to be a bit understaffed.

Loud, Hot, and Crowded

By LonestarSpartan |

We stopped by for drinks on a Friday evening and the place was very busy. Despite being mostly outdoors, the bar was extremely hot and very loud. The Waitress gave us a drink menu, but we decided to find another spot before we ordered any drinks. I noticed that the drink prices were pretty high, but that is not the reason we left. We ended up going to the Handlebar a few blocks down and 1 block over. It was much cooler and quieter.

Best Outdoor Happy Hour Spot

By Talia Siefker |

This spot has an upbeat vibe and is great for happy hour! They have great frozen drinks, (frose, margaritas, etc.) and fun games outside like jenga. I ordered the frozen margs, had a great time and the friendly staff made the experience amazing!

Drinks & Games - Rooftop

By LRRAZ |

Very fun atmosphere- awesome for hotel guests or locals for drinks but be out of the rain weather if you needed? There is a roof even though you have the outside feel (open air) - gets drafty so bring a jacket Games, drinks and Astro turf going strong! Closes midnight in Sunday’s Prickly Pear Rita- awesome!

Great service from great people!

By Erin |

If you’re ever in town definitely stop by this bar! Yummy food & great drinks with excellent customer service!

Yummy tacos and sangria

By Rjmathers |

It was warm on an August evening, but the white wine sangria was quenching and the tacos were outstanding. I had carnitas and also chicken tacos, I like the chicken a little better but they were both very good. Service was great, prices very reasonable ($4 tacos with a lot of meat, two filled me up). There wasn't much more food selection besides tacos, if that is important to you.

Cool bar

By Martyjojo |

We came here for a soft drink, ended up with 2 cocktails! I had the Hipster one which I really liked, rum based with mint, lime & coconut. My husband had the Bombs away, refreshing but sour to me. The terrace area is large & I imagine great in the balmy evenings with the fans going.

Super cool

By austinteri |

This place is so cool. Games, good cocktails, bar food, bring your dog. And it is well done funky comfortable. It is a mixture of inside and outside. It was a hot day when we were there, but you can escape the heat and still feel like you are outside if you need to cool down. The place is happening. One of my new favs.

Funky rooftop bar

By LizWaz |

Funky rooftop bar with firepits, oversized jenga and connect four, cornhole and good music. Excellent margaritas and a creative drink list. The bartenders were great and we really enjoyed hanging out there. Very dog friendly so beware if that's not your thing. The only sour note was our server, who seemed pained by our requests for cocktails, water, and the check...hope her day got better.

Tacos and margaritas

By drmader |

It was too hot Tuesday but not much was open. Downtown was a bit isolated and we were dead tired so we sat a while and enjoyed happy hour $2 tacos which were delicious and cold pear margaritas-also good. We have been here before and it’s a great vibe. Service good. Trickier w social Distancing to find a space to sit and stay cool in an extremely humid day.

Expensive and Exceedingly Noisy

By Bill M |

Won’t be back! Went there with two other couples for Happy Hour a few weeks ago. Service was decent — but noise level so high we were unable to carry on any sort of conversation. To our disappointment, menu was all Mexican. Chose variety of items. Reasonably tasty. I don’t drink — others had one or two glasses of wine. Bill was outrageously expensive. Will never return. Vastly better choices in downtown Austin. And vastly better prices.

Yum for the tacos

By NancyMangino |

Great vibe! Stopped for a quick bite before live music tour. I can only speak for the tacos. Had the adobo chicken and quinoa cauliflower. Both very good but cauliflower one had more flavors. Hubby had pork one and said chicken one was better. Service was good and it was quick which is what we needed.

Fun time and good prices

By TravellingTex |

All the staff we encountered were friendly and welcoming. The happy hour specials change daily and on the day we visited one of the drink specials was a key lime fizz (Tito’s vodka, club soda, and fruit juice), a good deal at $7. We also had one of the snacks of the day, the walking taco ($4). It was a small bag of Fritos cut in half, standing up, topped with chili, sour cream, cheese, and pickled onions. It was surprisingly tasty and reminded me of the Frito pie we used to eat as kids. The music was nice and not too loud, and the place was great for people watching. In our 60s we were definitely the oldest people there, but no problem at all.

Fun atmosphere. Fun food.

By MBarb10 |

Happy hour goes to 7:00 pm. Four people consuming margs, tacos and guac for a tab less than $70 is the best value in downtown. Fun outdoor environment, attentive service. Will become a new go to place for my friends.

Drinks On The Rooftop!

By misopiso88 |

We were meeting friends for drinks so opted for Upstairs at Caroline. Hip, fun atmosphere. We got there around 3 and it was pretty mellow but quickly got very crowded so plan accordingly.

Backyard upstairs

By tamsterd |

Trendy, fun location upstairs, with lots of games & lounge feels. we just stopped for an app and drinks so it was a fun atmosphere. Service was slow & we had to hunt sown the server to get a menu and take our drinks. I think they were understaffed for the crowd that night. Drinks were good, Appetizers were small, but tasty.

Fun place and good food

By Christian J |

Very good staff and great chips and salsa. Christina gave us good drink recommendations and quick service. Will be coming back soon.

Best service in Austin

By kaila |

We came to Austin for vacation and stayed at the A loft hotel which is connected to upstairs at Caroline. I cannot express how awesome our experience was there on multiple occasions throughout the week. Adrian and Manny, the two bartenders, give excellent service. Both were very attentive and extremely personable. Adrian had a lot of suggestions on what to do in Austin and really helped with our visit. The drinks were delicious as well. If we do make it back to Austin we will definitely becoming to upstairs at Caroline!

Connect Four

By pdSixty8 |

On a steamy June day I came here to meet up with my wife. There are two ways to get here where one is from first floor lobby and the second from Congress Ave. I walked up some industrial stairs from the lobby to enter patio bar. Behind it was an outside patio but mostly covered. There were a lot of outdoor games and activities for young millennials. The place was busy with people socializing and drinking. I located my wife seated a modern chair and joined her. In the far corner you will find checkin desk and restrooms. The place was loud with music which may not suit older folks who like their hotels quiet. The only negative note is a bar server never came by to ask me if I wanted a drink. Other than that it is pretty cool and everyone here were having a great time.

Busy But Fun

By JULIE M |

This place is ALWAYS busy, but that's because it's just full of fun! The drink and food menus are really fun! They have all kinds of games, nice seating areas, the staff is really nice and takes care of you as quickly as they can! If you are looking for a place to relax and have a cocktail, or play some pool, or have some great tacos this is a great place to land!

Cool Cocktails

By LizJaquez |

Creative drinks - I loved the Bad Life Choices draft cocktail w/ a shot of everclear & the Pop, Rock & Drop It w/ pop rocks

Their indoor/outdoor bar / kid and pet friendly.

By whydoineed30242 |

The outdoor/indoor bar is always a good place to relax, eat, drink and play some games. The outdoor area is kid and pet friendly as there is room to spread out and keep them entertained. In additions to table games, they have several TVs and pool tables. Thu-Sat evenings are not necessarily good for children and pets as there are large number of people drinking and having a good time.

Great drinks! Great service!

By 123caitliny |

I really enjoyed my visit to this venue. The service at the bar was quick and efficient. My waitress Denise was very lovely and knowledgeable about the drinks and food on the menu. I highly recommend this place to everyone to come on their night out!

Great service and availabilty

By James M |

Upstairs at the Caroline is very user friendly to everyone. Pets and adults allowed to relax, enjoy the view and have a cold drink and or great food.

Gorgeous spot with indoor and outdoor spaces, cool games like pool, cornhole, backgammon, etc., great drinks and specials

Very fun rooftop bar!

By Chrissyike9307 |

What a fun vibe here! Lots of seating choices. Different games to play while hanging out. We were able to catch happy hour and had some delicious drinks! Convenient location.

Fun atmosphere on the rooftop

By SheLovesWanderlust |

What a cool and fun place to hang out at with friends over some food or drinks and games! It's perfect for the warm weather in Austin and I wish London had something like that for sunny days.

Great Atmosphere!

By AnnieBella123 |

A fabulous indoor/outdoor "roof top type" bar and lounge. Great place to have cocktails, meet friends or just hang out!

Cute but Sad

By Ryan K |

The atmosphere is pretty great and super well put together but the drinks are horrible. I don’t know if it’s the bartenders or the quality of their house liquor but the gin tonic and vodka tonics are subpar and taste of only tonic water. Come here and chill, but don’t expect good drinks.

Not quite what we thought!

By Michael C |

We went upstairs after brunch and were a little disappointed by the atmosphere and quality of drinks from the bar. The view was semi decent but I wouldn’t recommend this place based off the service and drinks. Look around, you’ll find somewhere else downtown.

Unique rooftop bar with games

By TheAboutExperience |

This was a really great and unique spot near 6th Street. We stumbled upon this place while looking for a spot to have small meal. While the Guacamole Especial and the Mexican Shrimp Cocktail was a bit of a disappointment, the street tacos and Prickly Pear margaritas more than made up for it. The atmosphere was fantastic with a DJ spinning records and the lounging furniture made you enjoy the food and music even more. Try this place out next time your in Austin if you want a unique experience with some great drinks and friends.

WOW! Love this Unique Spot!

By fmm92il |

Came expecting to have one drink and was sucked in by the amazing staff (Demetrius), the indoor/outdoor vibe, and the FOOD! We will be back very soon!!!

Excellent Venue for Corporate Events!!

By Rachel K |

We had a corporate event for around 175 people and it was an excellent spot! Kelsey was great to work with throughout the planning process. They were flexible with our group needs and executed an enjoyable event for our group. Food was absolutely amazing and the space was perfect for the group to flow throughout the evening. Lawn games were a great addition and I never saw a line at the bar or buffet. The wait staff service was VERY attentive throughout the evening. It was a pretty hot Texas evening and the air flow throughout the venue was perfect and comfortable. Our group had a blast!! I hope to bring another group here!

Great food and Lively atmosphere

By Samantha M |

This was my first time at Caroline's and it was a great experience. It was a bit crowded but it was a Friday night. I loved the decor and the functional layout of the bar. The waitress was very nice and I think the manager came to our table which shows great hospitality! The food and drinks were good and not too pricey. I will definitely be coming back!

Nice looking space but need better bar staff

By TriMeat |

I loathe a bartender that is forced to use a jigger (I assume he was forced). An experienced bartender can pour an accurate ounce all night long. Using a jigger is for amateurs or short-pourers. My margarita was the worst I can remember ever getting. Need a more engaging, hip and skilled bar staff. Was so disappointed, as the bar area looked upscale and trendy, but the drinks and bar staff wouldn't make it at a low quality bar.

Good for drinks after work!

By bkp21 |

Stayed at the new Aloft, had cocktails at the end of the day. Cool vibe inside with some outdoor area as well.

I Heart concert 2019

By Kathyzaic |

Great atmosphere, open air bar, games cozy furniture, great music, attentive service and Delicious Refreshing Cocktails, what more do you need.

great rooftop bar - pet friendly

By sharonearly |

We stopped Upstairs at Caroline in the afternoon with our dog while walking around downtown. I did not plan to have a cocktail but saw an interesting frozen concoction which looked really good and it was. Maybe prickly pear rita? We went back that night after our pub crawl and had another of those yummy drinks. The bar is very interesting with "open" roof and games such as giant jenga and cornhole. Also several flat screen tvs, sofas and comfy chairs in addition to high top tables and picnic tables. Something for everyone. Good service.

Really fun

By Ruth S |

I really liked this place. It was open to the outside (sometimes too warm), lots of games for people looking for fun. Great cocktails, great service, yummy dips with the chips (try the tomatillo guacamole). I would happily go back.

Harold

By IfAndyCantHelpYou |

Harold held it down, make sure you come to the bar and hang out with Harold he will definitely hold it down for a good time, the entire rooftop is awesome a great place to enjoy great food and drinks especially happy hour 12pm - 2pm half off.

Great to drop in for a beer

By Harry The International Man of Leisure |

Sports bar with a great vibe, a happening place with good music. Californian Sauvignon blank and Pearl Snap were our tipples of choice. ( about $22 a round) Great decor with fire pits outside, inside very stylish and comfortable. Great bar staff are quick and friendly Lots of games to keep you entertained such as table football, pool and life sized connect four and Jenga.

Fun Atmosphere; So-So Service

By dctravel |

Visit Upstairs at Caroline with my son to visit with a colleague. It is a very cool space, with games available (giant Jenga, cornhole, giant Connect Four, foosball). It was the perfect atmosphere to get a snack, drink, and to talk a bit. The issue was the service. It was busy, but not crazy and we had a very hard time finding a server to order, getting her to come back for a refill, and then getting the bill.
