I stopped for a drink at the Upstairs at the Gwen. Michael O. Was very warm and made me feel welcome as a solo diner. He checked on me appropriately-timing wise to allow me to take advantage of the lux happy hour.

The cocktails at this place were very well made by the bar tender Pat Collin. He was willing to talk with our table answering questions we had about each drink on the menu. The cinnamon infused hard cider mule tasted like fall. Our server Meredith was very accommodating in being willing to move us inside when it started raining. The food was delicious. I got the smoked chicken hash. The chicken was very well prepared. The highlight was the potatoes. I don't know how they were made, but they were crispy with a great seasoning.

Kayla was really responsive to our groups needs! Had a great time celebrating a friends birthday at high tea!! Would recommend

The staff is amazing and most of the food I had was delicious- salads and chicken wings. I don't recommend the sides. I had mediocre mushrooms and grilled broccoli.

The lobby bar area in the Gwen hotel is very nice, but a bit congested. I decided to sit in a cozy spot outside of the ding area, but just steps away. I walked to the bar to order drinks and food for my group and was told I would need to wait for it, as I was out side of the service area. After a few minutes, Mayra S., a server, said she would bring us our items when they were ready. Mayra was very helpful and checked on us regularly despite the fact that we were "out of bounds". Mayra remembers us the entire weekend, as we were staying at the Gwen and always served us in the same seating location. Mayra gets my vote for best staff person at the Gwen.

The service is the reason we continue to come back. If you get a chance to be served by Daviel B. , take it. His years at the Gwen should be celebrated as his service is above and beyond. Thank you, Daviel.

Spent three nights in Chicago with our best friends. Our grand finale was beautiful cocktails and share plates on the beautiful rooftop of The Gwen. The drinks were unique the flavours carefully curated and we had beautiful service from Kayla. Highly recommend for a special evening with special friends.

Reserved the private room at Kostali for a 20 person Board of Director's dinner. With my group having a mix of vegetarians and halal/no pork diets, the private dining menu at Kostali gave me a great variety of food, that I don't believe I could've accomplished at one of our local steak spots. The service was extremely attentive, accommodating a last second dietary need, helping me find an extension cord for a projector, and just overall great service. The food was fantastic, from the starter dips and spreads to the final cookies and pastries. The wine selection was not your typical cabs, chardonnays, etc, which I loved. Able to try wines from different regions, I believe I had one from Lebanon, which was fantastic. I would highly recommend this place. We had 19 people in the room on one long table, I'd say that was a little tight, 16 might be the sweet spot for a sit down dinner, but again, that being my only "complaint" I'd go back in a heartbeat with any of my groups.

I went here with my friend and we had a phenomenal time. Zach was astounding. He answered any question we threw at him. He was incredibly charismatic and passionate about providing us with great service. Both of us are locals and adore RIver North. However, Upstairs at the Gwen stands out. The food is fantastic and drinks are KILLER. Ask your server about their favorite drinks!!!! Can’t wait to come back.

Upstairs at the Gwen restaurant had excellent food and a great server, Meredith, was great. Very professional and charming as she served.

I had the pleasure of dining at Upstairs at the Gwen last night and was thoroughly impressed by our server, Michael. He was not only attentive and responsive, but also provided excellent recommendations for our drinks. We initially decided to sit inside but he was able to tell that we wanted to move outside and accommodated us without even having to ask. He made our dining experience truly memorable. It's not often that a server makes such a good impression. The drinks were refreshing and the burrata appetizer was light and delicious.

Came here to reconnect with three people that mean the world to me. Our experience was completely wonderful. The tea service was delightful. Each item delicious and perfect. The bubbles flowed and the tea was poured. Our server, Kayla, was amazing. One of the ladies in our party had some challenges and arrived late, but Kayla and the rest of the staff creatively allowed us to continue the experience without rushing. We had an amazing afternoon. For those with allergies, please know we were contacted prior to the reservation to ask about food allergies/issues and Kayla inquired again when we arrived. I highly recommend. If you get Kayla as your server, you'll be in good hands.

Came here for restaurant week and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food was! The service was outstanding too! Everyone from our waitress ((Kayla) to the bussers, food runners, and hostess! The short rib was incredible. The winter squash soup was delicious! Highly recommend.

We had a light meal and wine on the beautiful terrace. There were luxurious couches and very comfortable chairs along with a center bar for groups. Our waiter was Gina who was very pleasant and accommodating. The menu presented a nice variety of dishes. We were enjoying our drinks and the great weather when Gina came by and told us we had to move for a group that was coming in. We had been there barely an hour and she was very apologetic. So we has to sit in the sun. Would have been nice if they had comped us a dessert or something, but it was not offered. At least the manager could have handled it.

We were out on the town last night celebrating my husband's 65th birthday and thought of checking this place out for a night cap. Even tho it was last minute, Colin and his team worked hard to find us a table for 5 with great views on the terrace. They went out of their way to make sure things were just right. It was the perfect way to end the night. The service was top-notch, the music and drinks were great and the views were amazing.

Was entirely surprised the first-class food here. I had a salmon with box choy that was superb. Staff at the bar is also wonderful.

Amongst Chicago’s finest spots! Stayed at the Gwen for two weeks and dined here every day. A very relaxing vibe with excellent eats, libations and service. A special shout out to Meredith who would remember my order and have it ready before I’d ask, and a huge shout out to the Gwen for this beautifully done up spot. Chicago, this is where you need to hang this summer! Five star food, bevs and hospitality !

Great food and awesome service, we had brunch here and bottomless mimosas. Our server was Michael and he was so personable and made sure those mimosas stayed bottomless! Great experience!

We had breakfat at Upstairs at The Gwen after a morning workout. They had what we looked for, FRESH fruit smoothie! Service was excellent. Shout out to NICOLE, our server. Very friendly and professional. We will come back for our smoothie and nice rooftop breakfast again soon!

We have formal lunch organized by conference people here. Nice set up in hotel lobby at level 5. We have asked for vegetarian course and hotel did manage it

I had an exceptional dining experience at the restaurant. The chef James culinary skills were truly impressive, crafting dishes that were both flavorful and beautifully presented. The bartender tanairy also deserves praise for creating delicious and innovative cocktails. The combination of skilled professionals in the kitchen and behind the bar made for a memorable evening. Highly recommended! I will be coming back for sure!

This was a complete disappointment and waste of money. Most importantly, it is not curling and calling it that is a straight lie. There is a tiny plastic lane set up with curling rocks on wheels - which jam and send the rocks flying in every random direction. It’s more like a poorly made shuffle board that you play in the cold. It’s $25/person, which does include one of their excessively priced hot drinks, but even those were pretty terrible. If you are interested in a semi decent view and an $18 cocktail, then just have a drink there, don’t waste your time or money with the “curling”.

This gem of a restaurant is located on the fifth floor of the Gwen Hotel. Excellent service and location!!

Decided to take my girlfriends to Upstairs at the Gwen after their commute from out of state and it was such a great experience! We were greeted with such warm welcomes from the staff and immediately walked to our reserved table. Upon seated our waitress Maria did a great job at making sure we had everything we needed. We all started with a round of Mezcal Sours by the beautiful bartender Tanairy which were so delicious! Chef James came out and introduced himself to our group which was really nice, it made the whole experience that much more memorable. He walked us through some of the items on the menu and was very thorough with what was new and what were some house staples. I must say the Brussels sprouts and the salmon were my favorites. Chef James, Corey and Nate were all so kind and their hospitality was 10/10. Tany’s cocktails were the cherry on top of our spectacular dinner. If you ever find yourself in Chicago make sure to check out Upstairs at The Gwen, I can’t wait to return!

First time visiting the upstairs at the Gwen, while in Chicago for a girls weekend. Upon our arrival, my party of four was greeted with warm welcomes and the option of dining in doors or out on the rooftop. However even with the fire place well lit we decided to enjoy an indoor dinner. Our bartender of the evening Tanairy walked us through the cocktail menu and ultimately gave us the recommendation of a Mezcal Sour. Tany was able to take the traditional amaretto sour and transformed it into a modern day drink with a twist that catered to the taste we were looking for. The starter we ordered the Breads and Spreads and the whipped ricotta with honey was delicious. When entrees made their way to the table, each dish was presented by James the Executive Chef, Corey the Sous-Chef and Nate their additional cook. The handsome and cheerful trio introduced each entrée, and what it took in preparation of each meal. I personally enjoyed that the knowledgeable chef and his team explain the significance of each dish, it made the dinner feel that much more unique and a personalized dining experience. The dishes, just as attractive as the men were phenomenal! The star of the show was the Seared Scallops, highly recommend. The gentlemen then brought out a beautiful assortment of desserts and detailed each dish for my friends and I. The whole playful, knowledgeable, warm welcoming encounter by Tanairy, James, Corey, Nate and other behind the scenes team made this dinner monumental for my girls trip. Over all this was by far the best dining experience I have had in Chicago.

Made reservations with a group of my girls to have dinner that turned into into a whole dinning experience with exceptional service. Chef James presented every single item and brought out a fine selection for us to try from starters to entrées & even dessert! My favorite things from the menu were the bread & spreads along with the salmon entree- DELICIOUS. Our bartender Tanairy offered a selection of cocktails she recommended to try & did NOT disappoint. Usually I get a whiskey sour but she offered a twist to try a Mezcal sour instead & it has changed the game for me- my new go to drink! Last thing i want to say is the attention to detail was on par. One of the girls ordered a hot tea & i was really blown away with the way it was presented. It wasn’t what i expected- they brought out the tea as a whole set as a self pour with cute little honey jars to add to taste. Overall, the Gwen exceeded my expectations & i can’t wait to come back again. 10/10.

Stopped in to see the Curling game on the roof deck with two friends, we are all in our sixties, it was closed, but the server let us go out and walk around. We decided to have a drink in the bar/lounge. Mimi was our server and she was just delightful. She is professional, friendly and made us feel so comfortable. The Gwen is lucky to have her!

Little gem salad was far from small. Fresh and quality ingredients. Burger was cooked as requested. Substituted the fried fries on burger plate with brussel sprouts and did not disappoint. But the the best part of lunch was the service. The service was exceptional for any restaurant and was pleasantly unexpected for a restaurant at a bar. Mayra and Omar maintained the perfect balance of attentive without hovering. My husband and I discussed sharing the salad and without prompting, they split our orders for sharing. It’s hard to specify the intangibles associated with the service but the key elements were happy, efficient, collaborative and quality. Kudos to George and the entire staff that worked together to make our experience the best it could be. I am glad that the cold and wind kept us at the hotel when there are so many good options for food downtown. Btw, bar was good too but service and food stood out.

This was the best high tea I’ve ever done in Chicago…and I’ve lived here for 8 years. The food was more filling than at most teas, the boozy tea options were yummy and best of all the service was above and beyond! Kayla was our server and she ensured everything was so special. We couldn’t have asked for more. It was absolutely lovely and I can’t wait to go again!

Upstairs at The Gwen is a lobby restaurant and bar at The Gwen hotel, which is a stylish place just off Michigan Avenue in the heart of Chicago. It looked interesting online so I decided to book a table for lunch. When I arrived, the hostess seemed confused as to why I was there. Hmmmm. I always love it when a guest shows up at exactly the reserved time and the hostess wonders why they are there. Upstairs at The Gwen is sort of plopped over to the side of a large lobby area - it has no walls for intimacy - it just sits in the lobby. The room is not very inviting or warm. It's kind of like eating in an airport concourse. The restaurant has a very appealing outdoor area, with fire pits and such, but since this is Chicago in February - and they were hosting an event out there - I was seated inside at one of the few small tables. After all the confusion things got better. Servers had their act together and I enjoyed an excellent lunch. I ordered the Pan Roasted Salmon - it was delicious. I would like to return when I could sit on the outdoor patio.

First of all, these guys know a little something that you don't. They're not the whole, "trendy Mixologist" types, they're Craft Bar Tenders. They know the history of drinks, they know how drinks are fermented, they KNOW, KNOW... know what I am saying? If not, one visit is all that it'll take to solve the mystery. Super Friendly, super knowledgeable, up to the task. Go and experience these guys. No regrets. Enjoy!!!

My wife and I stayed at the Gwen (formally the Conrad, formally Le meridian). We went to the exquisitely decorated cafe off the main lobby for breakfast and were blown away by the quiality and service and cost. Kevin was awesome as a waiter...just enough to educate us and not overstay his welcome. We own a restaurant ourselves and are always picking the menu and food apart. We had to ask the chef how the heck the eggs were so colorful and airy. Get the skillet...it was fantastic. When done, we expected a $75 tab. It was only $43! We will make a point to eat here again. Review for our hotel experience in separate posting...and yes...I gave it 5stars as well!

Dinner and service was excellent! We started with the burrata salad and had the bucatini and scallop entrees, it’s a unique experience in a hotel restaurant. Our waiter Tony was super knowledgeable about the food and made some great wine recommendations.

We sat down just before noon and Eddie immediately knew what we wanted (mimosa and old fashioned)! He was attentive and offered fantastic suggestions for apps (the Ceviche and flatbread were perfect to hold us over until dinner). We then continued with great conversation and continued friendly service and excellent suggestions for drinks (Uptown and Wildwood). When you come, ask for Eddie! 🙂

Good food. Great service. It was quite sunny and the waiter adjusted an umbrella to accommodate me. The sun was blinding me until he made the adjustment.

My wife and I came across this place during our visit to Chicago, and it is absolutely worth your time. The atmosphere inside and on the rooftop was absolutely stunning. It offers picture-worthy views of the skyline. The cocktail artist behind the bar, Pat, expertly explained and crafted the most amazing fall-oriented beverages. And the server, Meredith, was extremely attentive. And to top it all off, the food and drink was amazing. The breakfast sandwich and potatoes were to die for and the Bellini was extremely refreshing.

Stopped in with my husband for a pre-dinner drink. Jacob, the bartender, was friendly and knowledgeable -- he makes a great Paper Plane! The food was great, too. We will definitely be back.

Michael Ortiz was awesome! Came to Chicago to take my daughter shopping for her wedding dress and stayed at The Gwen. Michael took care of us and set up my reservation and was our waiter. He didn’t miss a beat! Champagne waiting at our table to toast the bride to be when we arrived. The rest of the evening was just lovely! Highly recommend!

come to Chicago often for work, and last night was the third time I hosted a client happy hour at the Rooftop Bar at The Gwen this summer. Each time I've arrived, the hostess -- Vanessa Gonzalez -- has gone above and beyond for me. She's moved tables and chairs, attended to the fire pit, makes all of my clients feel warm and welcomed, and always checks in to make sure we have everything we need. So all in all, great cocktails, fun live music, a breathtaking rooftop AND warm and friendly service to boot? The Gwen will continue to be a go to for me socially and for client entertainment.

Perfect spot for a date or a moment to catch up with friends. The outdoor patio had fire pits roaring which makes it an option even on the colder Chicago days. The drinks were fun and inventive, and Bridget was an expert in every recommendation she made.

The hostess, Kelly, made the whole experience 10x better! Very clean, spacious, outdoor patio, friendly staff, great craft cocktails and food, but Kelly stole the spotlight! My husband and I stayed at the Gwen in Chicago , beautiful hotel! We had dinner at Kostali located in the hotel. The staff was friendly , helpful and very attentive . Troy was our waiter , he was very helpful with the menu. I was impressed with his manner and service. The food was excellent and so were the cocktails. The atmosphere was cozy. We will be back.

My fiancé, close friend and I went here for happy hour. My fiancé and I were on vacation and had Kelly as our server. She was AMAZING! Kind and so helpful! The service was top notch and we had beyond a five star experience. The atmosphere is amazing and everything is so well done. The food is wonderful, the drinks are fantastic and the whole place is just a top notch experience.

We were looking forward to this new restaurant but everything was just, disappointing. I hope that it’s only because it’s newly opened and staff were not coordinated and didn’t know the restaurant well... If the restaurant stays the way it is, it’s certainly not going to last a year. As a starter, we had to wait 30 minutes after our reservation time to sit down. It’s easy to blame the customers sitting before us, but after being there for a bit, it became apparent that it was also or maybe mostly the staff’s fault. The staff are all over the place. Uncoordinated, inefficient, unaware, inattentive, and self-absorbed. For example, after trying to catch someone’s attention for a good 5 minutes, I was able to ask for the wine list. The waiter brought the full wine list. I meant the restaurant week’s special wine list, so I asked for the “other” wine list. He brought the cocktail list. No, I asked for the other “wine” list. After another 5 minutes trying to get someone’s attention, I was finally able to order “the restaurant week’s wine menu.” It took 15 min to order a stupid bottle of wine. I should have just walked over to the counter to grab the menu myself. The waiters do not remember who ordered what so they scramble around your table trying to guess who ordered what. Placing down and picking up plates uncoordinatedly. They don’t notice or they pretend not to notice that a customer is obviously trying to get attention. They do not pour more wine until the customer asks. They are horrible at explaining the dishes. They are not confident. They are running around like they are extremely busy. I mean, they are busy, but unnecessarily so. I saw so much inefficiencies and redundant movements. They need to seriously get better staff or train them ASAP. Food wasn’t bad.

Unique view of the architecture blgs in Chicago. Loved Eddie and Martell who worked up there. Funny, interesting and Eddie makes great drinks. Great people, competitive prices, nice view. Patio is nicely laid out for groups or dining alone.

I visited Upstairs At The Gwen very recently for the first time. It was the kind of Chicago experience that will stay with me forever. The open lobby dining atmosphere was equally as velvety and smooth as my delicate cocktail, Venus, made for me by a nurturing Claudia J. Pale pink under even paler pink, toasty golden brown disk instead of a twist and rich sage green in contrasting aroma. How pretty and worthy did I feel? Very, indeed. I am beyond happy to have Upstairs At The Gwen added to my roster of creative, engaging hot spots to attend in the City I call home. Beautiful. Thank you. ~ Sara J.

This, alongside Chateau Carbide, was my favourite rooftop experience in Chicago. The Gwen Hotel is a classy joint, & this was reflected in the sophisticated clientele & presentation of their ‘Upstairs at the Gwen’ bar/restaurant. It has a gorgeous outdoor space, with lots of fire pits & heaters which you can get up close to, revelling in the toasty glow & burning heat on your face on a chilly winters night. The rooftop is beautifully lit, with a quite magical ambience, & of course, has stupendous skyline views. Bit of a novelty, but they also have a mini curling rink during the season. Cocktails were stunning, especially the one named ‘Stay Gold Pony Boy’, & the wine selection was also tip top. The menu features light bites & sharing plates & my charcuterie board was fine, & service polished & friendly.

Had a great time with my group and an outstanding meal all thanks to Troy and his team! Troy was super attentive to all our group's needs and was very thoughtful to make sure I had a vegan meal. I can tell the staff all work very well together to provide a fulfilling and exceptional experience for customers. Troy also embraced his team members and was encouraging to them which was very warming to see. Overall Troy and the entire staff was professional and made for a perfect dinner. I had the campanelle pasta with pesto made special as vegan request. The pasta itself was smooth and delicious, and everything on the plate came together very nicely. The sorbet was a great treat and had lovely silky texture.

I went with my mother to eat breakfast at a so called “luxury hotel” the hostess mentioned that the breakfast was almost over but we had a few minutes to order. As we looked through the menu a male server with a very unsanitary beard took forever to take care of us. When he got to our table he yanked the menus out of our hands. And brought us the lunch menus and rudely said it was no longer breakfast hour. Even though the manager was very apologetic about the situation and gave us free food I wanted to share the experience about this awful male server with a horrible attitude. It’s a very nice hotel but servers like this should not be hired at luxury hotels if they can’t give out a luxury service

Perfect winter rooftop retreat! Dymaond took such good care of us while we were there and his pride in his work was truly impressive. His hospitality, recommendations and knowledge of the Gwen were top notch. We will be back!

Enjoyed drinks and appetizers before going to the theater with my family. Wonderful server, I believe her name was Ari. Offered help ordering a wine that paired with our appetizers. Delightful and warm atmosphere.. Would definitely visit again. The outside terrace is a plus even in the winter.

Kostali restaurant provided a warm atmosphere, delicious meal, and enjoyable wine. Talking with Kayla, bartender, server, host, was a very pleasant experience. She knew what to recommend as an entree, starter, and the perfect wine pairing.

We didn't eat in the bar but stopped for drinks many times. The patio has a very good view out to Michigan Avenue. The service is very friendly and the drinks are tasty. This is an excellent lobby bar and well worth the elevator ride to the 5th floor to check it out.

Just ok. When you've had a good experience with a concierge employee over the phone you hope in-person would align. Unfortunately the Rooftop terrace lacked a bit in this category. While it was eventually worked out by 2 nice host, I'm not sure I would return, especially given that followed instructions, made & paid for reservations in advance.

I stopped in here for a snack and a cocktail one afternoon. The smoked cauliflower claimed to be a house specialty and the cocktail list held noting of interest for me, so I ordered a corona instead. The cauliflower was really good, very tasty, cooked just to the point where it still had a little crunch but still not raw. The flavors were unique and very tasty. The bar area was bustling for a Monday afternoon and while it was busy it wasn't too loud. I was surprised this place was billed as a rooftop bar since it seems like it hangs over the portico below. Overall, I really enjoyed this quick stop off.

First of all, We walked into this location and it was so classy. We were then greeted by the lovely Mimi, Jason, Chris, and Ari. The service was superior to anything I've ever experienced. I felt so at home with their friendliness and their expertise is insurmountable. I would definitely return and tip them at least 50%. I can't wait to come back!

We went as a larger group of 7 last night. Service was good - Food was a bit hit or miss. Bread was Publican -so wonderful. Lamb ribs tasty. Cod great- Chicken just ok- Lamb shank was flavorful and juicy Atmosphere- hotel dining room- needs some artwork and pizzazz~ I will give it another try..

While visiting Chicago for a long weekend - wedding we stayed at The Gwen. The concierge, Ramon, helped to arrange a special reservation for a large group around multiple fire pits on the terrace as our “last hurrah!” Bridget took very good care of us as we ate and drank our way through the entire menu (literally) of craft drinks and small plates to share . What a perfect way to end the festivities among family and friends. Thank you Ramon and Bridget for your kind assistance and excellent customer service.

Eddie at the bar was fantastic! Very attentive, speedy service. He was knowledgeable about the area and seemed to have a genuine interest in customers. The facilities were clean, fashionable and well-kept as well. I would definitely return!

The Kostali restaurant in the Gwen Hotel is such a gem! The food is outstanding and we had wonderful service from Troy, our waiter. He also made perfect drinks for us!

Went here for drinks the other night. Had an Amazing experience! Great service! Great views of the City. You can truly tell that the staff cares and loves working at the place. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great place to have a drink to go here!

Eddie was exceptional at the lobby bar. A true professional and makes me want to come back with my friends and colleagues. He provided a great environment for after work chilling and was very insightful about the menu and was willing to customize cocktails throughout the night. Awesome!

Just stopped by the restaurant at The Gwen hotel. One word - phenomenal! Eddie was a very gracious host that ensured my fiancé and I were sat right away. Sergio had excellent cocktail recommendations. We ordered the crudo as an appetizer and it was amazing! Sergio paired the crudo with a Sauvignon Blanc. Since we weren’t that hungry we ordered a charcuterie plate. For dessert we had mango sorbet. All in all a great experience! Thank you everyone!

Everyone's food was good but service not great, server disappeared. The "curling" is a waste of money. It's more like shuffleboard on a fiberglass surface with the "rocks" having wheels. No ice, no sweepers. And surface is terribly bowed so nearly all shots, even ones roughly down center, veer to right or left and go to boards, do it was impossible to aim at people's rocks.

My friend and I came for Tipsy Tea service at Kostali - and it did not disappoint! We walked in to the beats played by the live DJ and enjoyed our drinks and tower full of treats. I especially loved the avocado toast and scones - they were delicious! Kayla provided excellent service --- she even brought out a piece of cake to celebrate my birthday! Highly recommend!

My friend and I stopped by Upstairs at the Gwen on a whim and it was the best decision we’ve made this trip! Our server Michael Ortiz was perfectly attentive, made wonderful suggestions and was just a blast to spend the afternoon with. Cannot recommend highly enough!

This place is awesome. Crazy full views of the city with great staff and prices. I almost don't want to say how perfect it is so it stays wide open for me. It's the best kept secret in town. The aim I'm told by the bartender is to keep things easy and comfortable, not trendy and stiff, like a lot of other rooftop establishments. Love it!

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel restaurant. Amazing food. Fine dining Mediterranean in a relaxing setting. I recommend the burrata salad with bread and the scallops. They have a very long wine list. Kayla was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about all the offerings. It was unique to get to sample wine from Greece and Lebanon.

Check out Upstairs at the Gwen for a great dining and entertainment experience. Live music on Wednesday and a hopping roof top make it a great place to unwind after work or meet up for business meetings. Ask Eddie or Jason to whip up one of the signature cocktails!

What an amazing day. 25 women for a Tipsy Bridal Tea. The food was so delicious and beautifully presented. The Prosecco added Sparkle to the occasion and the hand crafted cocktails were well thought out with the menu. Shout out to Jason , Troy, Roberto and Kayla for great service. We will definitely do that again!!

We recently stopped in to Upstairs at the Gwen and let me tell you ,AMAZING!! Our Server Mimi made a simple stop for drinks and appetizers into an experience we will not forget! She was hands down the best server we have ever had. Mimi made us feel like family and turned our time her into something we will remember forever!! I hope The Gwen appreciates Mimi because we sure did!! Next time we come to Chicago from Atlanta we will definitely come here again!

This was pricey but just beautiful. The food was very fresh, of excellent quality and delicious. The view cannot be beat! Our server was excellent, very attentive and also very helpful as we worked out what we wanted to do and see that day. What a fun way to start the day!

Had a small dinner and drinks at the Gwen on Tuesday. The burger was delicious. And Diamond our waiter was exceptional. Diamond is worth the visit.

If you wish to sit on the terrace it's lovely with private sitting areas, firepits, patio heaters etc. Great spot or just eat inside in the bar area as it's just as lovely.

Great roof top, with very good service and drink menu. It is hard to get a big party in, but if patient you will enjoy.

Upstairs at the Gwen has a magnificent staff, view, and ambiance to the place with great open layouts where families can bring their kids and still feel welcomed. My host Kevin was exceptional and made s my family feel special. I will be back again soon.

Winter, Curl & Chill We loved the ambience and view of the terrace area. The seats, cushions, blankets, fire pits and lights were nicely done. The service was slow to start with, to sit down and then to order drinks, but it did pick up. We only had an hour for our booking so only had time for 1 drink in the end . The live (pitchy) violinist on the upper terrace clashed with the music on our terrace, which ruined part of the ambience. We were very confused as to why we struggled to book a table as we were the only ones there for most of our reservation. The value is very over priced, $25pp to sit down and $20 per cocktail, plus tax and convenience fee. Overall this 1 hour, 1 drink experience cost over $100!

Me and my husband stayed at the Gwen hotel over the weekend and it was a very pleasant stay. Super luxurious from the decor to the full size luxurious Molton Brown toiletries provided but the best of the best was the Kostali restaurant in the hotel. Patrick B was our waiter/bartender and he was amazing. Very polite, professional and super attentive of our needs and wants. Patrick provided a super pleasant service to me and my husband. We started with some Chardonnay and oysters plenty of sparkling water followed by small plates such as the super delicious sourdough bread, lavash bread and three dips such as tzatziki dip, spicy kefalotyri ,zatar butter and a delicious bowl of mussels. We ended our dinner with some delicious espresso and Amaro for me and espresso and Remy Martin for my husband. It was so good. We love small plates rather than one big dinner dish so we enjoyed our dinner a lot. Everything tasted so delicious. Everyone that visits the Gwen hotel should stop by the Kostali restaurant to see Patrick. You will leave the place very happy and satisfied. My friends and I have been craving a space to go for a decent drink and good company. I was met with Grace who’s stunningly charismatic energy put me in a relaxing mood from work’s stress and I was promptly and effectively served by the equally inviting Kate. The two made sure our glasses were never left unattended and that the worries of the dreary Tuesday was left back at the ground floor. The three of us truly hope to make this our new hang out spot after work. Please let Grace and Kate know they truly made our day.

Mira was amazing!!! Everything she recommended food and drink wise was amazing! Super nice girl will recommend anyone to come here. The views are ridiculously good. The ambiance is the best in the city! Colon the Manager also checked on us and was very nice and accommodating thank you guys so much!

We ate here last minute. Surprisingly empty for a Friday night. Kayla, our server was the perfect blend of informative, attentive, but never intrusive. Food was outstanding and sommelier was very gracious and accommodating when we sent back the wine. I would definitely return. Lovely unrushed atmosphere.

We celebrated our 35th wedding Anniversary at Kostali last night. We had a marvelous dinner there. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. Kayla and Jason took excellent care of us. Kayla made several great suggestions for food choices and was attentive without being intrusive. Jason did an excellent job with wine recommendations. The wine list is quite interesting and varied with many Mediterranean wines all of good value and not readily know to me. Jason did a fabulous job of selecting a perfect wine to accompany our dinner. All in all we had a great dining experience.

Meredith was amazingly attentive and friendly each morning as the breakfast waitress. Her recommendations for someone who has never been to chicago was perfect for me. I highly recommend this place for breakfast

Had lunch/dinner inside at Upstairs. Great service each time from Eddie. He remembered me and my preferences, and provided an off-menu item when the menu didn’t meet my needs. Good selection at the bar as well.

Lunch and cocktails which were all very delicious! Included fries were cooked perfected and shouldn't be missed if you are a french fry fan. Our server Nikki was topnotch. Very attentive and pleasant to visit with. We were there to participate in the roof top curling that is being offered this time of year. If you are a curler as I am you won't be impressed but none the less my son and I had fun. Small stones very light on castors. We prefered the true sized ones which also had castors but more accurate weight wise. If you go with a group smaller are best as there are only 4 of the bigger ones. If you are looking to have fun and not play true Curling it is worth the $25

This pan Mediterranean restaurant by chef Cari Nahabedian opened recently and I got the chance to try the cuisine during a recent stay at the Gwen. This is a chef driven restaurant that happens to be attached to a hotel and the decor and vibe was pleasant - it felt like a locals spot and not a sterotypical hotel dining experience. In addition to starters and wonderful bread service (slices from Publican and delicious house made tahini rolls), the main courses are a combination of large sharing plates and individual portions. My server was very helpful explaining the menu and providing recommendations. Main course of roasted Chicken tagine was especially memorable - having dined at Moroccan restaurants in Europe before and enjoyed the traditional preparation and presentation, this hearty plate went to the next level with especially tender roasted baby chicken and crispy anise seed carrots along with the traditional accompaniments of couscous, garbanzo beans, and citrus rind. The starter salad with roasted pear and ashed goat cheese had a nice blend of flavors and was beautifully presented, and the wine list featured many exotic choices by the glass curated from Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean. If you appreciate quality and creativity, Kostali is an excellent choice to see an established chef’s approach to Mediterranean cuisine and I look forward to trying more of the menu next time I am back in Chicago.

We were walking by and noticed a nice open air lounge, so we stopped for drinks and appetizers. It was a nice place to stay with good ambiance and fire pits. The prices were quite expensive but it was a good place to splurge for a fun time.

Stopped in for breakfast before a business meeting. Clean, relaxing, prompt. Everything about my visit from the host and her manners to through the end of the meal with Meredith was top notch. Staff is thorough and friendly. The food was unique and delicious. I will be back.

Our server Troy was exceptional! Very pleasant and professional. I will absolutely look for Troy next time I am here again.

Great Saturday morning at the Gwen! We had such a good experience we decided to write our first TripAdvisor review. We read about the winter curling at Upstairs at the Gwen and wanted to check it out. We couldn’t get a reservation but decided to still go on a Saturday at 11am when they opened to see if we might get in. We were told that curling was booked for the day but if we wanted to hang out they would let us know if they had any last minute cancellations and could squeeze us in. We took a seat at the bar and ordered a few cocktails. The bartender Mimi was great! Everything she made was fantastic and was happy to talk with us about some of the other specialty cocktails she was making and others that were on the menu. After about 45 minutes sitting at the bar, the manager let us know that there was an opening for us to try the curling. It’s not ice and you don’t get to sweep like you see on the olympics but still enjoyable and a fun way to spend a chilly Saturday. Great drinks, beautiful bar and outside rooftop section, and incredibly friendly and helpful staff. If we are ever in Chicago again we will definitely be back!

My wife and I initially stopped by for a drink at the bar, came back later that night and again the next day for the tipsy tea experience and some food. Bartender Jakob was absolutely amazing (find him when you’re going). If you like to try some different twists on drinks and spirits, he’s your guy.

Visited Chicago to celebrate wife's birthday. All of the places we attempted to visit or inquired about were completely sold out or booked for the night. We happened to stumble across this gem. The food was delicious! Even better was the ambience as we had a booth in the back giving us a very private feel. Our waiter, Chris Young was super attentive and did an amazing job of explaining the different food choices as we were not totally familiar with Greek/Mediterranean cuisine. If you happen to be in Chicago and want a delicious meal, I'd definitely recommend. The restaurant is located in The Gwen, a luxury hotel in Chicago!

Yeah, we’ve all been to Cindy’s Rooftop and London House Rooftop. Lots of people with lots of noise and hard to even find a railing to get near, let alone a table. But, if you want a quieter more relaxed atmosphere with a fabulous view, The Gwen Rooftop is a must do. Our server, Dymond, couldn’t have been better. Best service we had the whole time we were in Chicago. And never tried rushing us out. I hate to recommend The Gwen because I want to keep it a secret. But it was fantastic!

I was asked to rate my experience of Upstairs at the GWEN. These comments below are my own experience and account of the impression I had of dining at your establishment: My brother and I took my Mom out on Wednesday May 10th for her 59th Birthday that day. It was a beautiful day outside, the food was good, the staff were hospitable and possessed a friendly demeanor while registering and escorting us to our seat. However, the main impetus to take the time to write this longer review is because of our Dining Server Ms. Meredith. Ms. Meredith was outstanding and understood the true essence of customer service in my opinion. As a medical professional, I believe service is key in my line of work and I'm sure it is key in the Restaurant and Hospitality industry. Ms. Meredith's demeanor was very kind, thorough, and composed. Simply put, upon first meeting her, I was impressed with these attributes as they are rare sometimes in society. Ms. Meredith quickly adjusted to the many questions my party had of the dining menu by offering a meal recommendation to purchase based off what I told her about the foods we wanted to experience. Once made aware of the occasion to visit the GWEN Upstairs, Meredith wished my Mom a genuine Happy Birthday. Meredith often came by our table to ask if we had any particular needs for dining and asked about how we liked the food. And Finally.... When I privately asked Meredith if The GWEN does complimentary dessert for Birthday individuals, she went out of her way to ask her chefs/manager about bringing my Mom something. Meredith surprised us all that day by bringing out a nicely plated small chocolate dessert arrangement that said Happy Birthday on the plate. This really sealed the deal and made our experience of celebrating Mom's Birthday Fantastic as Meredith didn't have to do that. Please Give High Regards to Meredith's superiors and Meredith herself for a job well done in customer service and thoroughness. My first time meeting her that day left me with a good impression and I WILL DEFINITELY be coming back to your establishment with my work/ training colleagues. I recommend you train all of your staff on how to make a customer feel good about patronizing your business through the attributes, resourcefulness, and work ethic Ms. Meredith displayed that day. I had to find a venue that could accommodate 30 people. They made it work for us on a short notice, four days notice. Thank you Eddie, Batuhan, Amy, Peter and the servers that took great care of us. Everyone enjoyed the Terrance setting, everything was AMAZING! The Terrace, food, cocktails, staff, view and (the weather)!! I'm a huge fan of The Gwen, they exceeded our expectations! Will definitely host future functions there again.

Aire at the front desk and Mimi at circle bar were exceptionally friendly. I was waiting for my room to be ready because a lot of the guests ended up staying as long as they could due to hurricane Irma back in their home towns. Aire and Mimi made the wait enjoyable and pleasant. Highly recommend visiting this hotel and bar but also asking for their service! 5 stars.

My wife and I had drinks and dinner while spending the weekend in Chicago in route to India and Asia. The venue was great with an unbelievable ambiance. The food was wonderful and the service was even better. We were waited on by Nara. She was extremely nice and gave us some ideas of things to do that night and nearby. Again, great venue, ambiance, food and service (Thanks again Nara)... You must have the Spanish octopus. We devoured it before getting to take a picture.

We walked here because someone recommended their rooftop. This is a swanky bar up on top of a hotel. It was pretty empty, drinks over priced. Bummed to find out rooftop closed for season. We had one drink and left.

The rooftop patio at The Gwen is terrific day or night. Call ahead for fireplace at night. Convenient for drinks or meals while staying at the hotel or just visiting the rooftop. Service was excellent.

This is a great place to chill when staying at The Gwen. Eddie is especially a great host.. great wine and drink selection. And the food is always excellent. The last time I ate here I ordered the brussel sprouts extra crispy and they were amazing!! Have had their Caesar, Pork Sliders are to die for, and their Chicken Wings with mole rub. Also, as a female traveler, it's a comfortable spot. Only great things to say!!

I stopped by for Lunch with the team at the Gwen. First off, beautiful hotel and lobby. Secondly the caesar salad was spectacular! And lastly Mimi was a pleasure to speak with! She was very attentive and nice to us.

If you're in Chicago and you want some amazingly delicious cocktails go see Chris at The Gwen. He makes some of the most delicious and beautiful cocktails and he serves them with a winning smile. All of the hotels I have visited in The Luxury Collection have been nothing short of amazing. The hotels, the staff, the decor, the food, the drinks... This collection of hotels does it right.

Service at the Gwen was exceptional. Just the right balance of attentiveness without smothering. The bartender, Patrick, was amazing making drinks and also recommending things like which IPA was the hoppiest. Michael was our server and added positively to our experience. The outside patio fires do a nice job warming you during a chilly Chicago evening.

I’m not one to write reviews, however I wanted to compliment Ari, who was our server at the bar. Her attention to detail was the best. Anytime our table needed refreshing she was there in a flash to help us out.

We were just wanting to have some drinks and light appetizers, we were welcomed at the bar, where Jacob was our bar tender. He made this experience very memorable with all the recommendations he had on what to order. For drinks, we had the dog and the cook! And that was such a refreshing good drink! Was just perfectly balanced and the cucumber wasn’t too empowering. We had the Whipped Kefalotyri with Walnut & Honey, and the Broccoli & Cauliflower Fritto Misto and then there was a halloumi appetizer that was SO good. Then we Ended with some pistachio desert that was to die for. The service was amazing, Jacob was super friendly and helpful and the food was amazing!

Not too overpriced. Food selection and quality was pretty OK. Service was acceptable. Not too bad for hotel guests to have breakfast. Didn't get a chance to go outdoor since it was raining.

I never expect much from a hotel for work travel. The Gwen changed that, or Esther its staff did. I cannot speak highly enough for how pleasant, professional and prompt everyone was. In a past live I spent years working in fine dining, restaurants, and bars both as an employee, management and a level 2 Som. I’ve been in their shoes and can honestly say they have an exemplary staff. From breakfast for our large group with Meredith, going over the great cocktail menu with the long beaded bartender, to dinner for my team with Jacob Ansar making us feel incredible after a reservation confusion with my director. At no point did I feel like a bother, that I had to wait, a question was dumb or anyone was anything but happy to be here. Good staff is not just hard working and prompt. If they are not treated right, it shows in their demeanor. When I see a staff from day one who does not look or act defected, it shows great ability not just in their ability to do a job, but their ability to want to be doing and enjoying their job. Please keep up the incredible work and give your staff a raise. They made a hotel restaurant/bar feel like a true fine dining and top tier lounge experience.

Upstairs at the Gwen is a great little oasis in the heart of Chicago. It has a very relaxing vibe but you still feel the buzz of the city. The cocktails are fantastic. I especially liked the Margarita Oscuro and the Gwen Luxe, but they also made a great martini. For food, the bucatini was a personal favorite, but everything I tasted was good. We absolutely loved the live music they had - especially a female artist who played her own keyboard/guitar. She got many rounds of applause. Finally, the service was great once we found Batu. Thank you again Batu for making our experience so positive. Also, Diamond was the best server we had all weekend. He took care of our large party with not one hiccup. He was knowledgeable, fast, and super friendly. I would definitely highly recommend this place! Make a reservation in advance if you're not a hotel guest (and even if you are a hotel guest).

Love Eddie & team at the bar. Great service and recommendations....decent bourbon selection too. However, sensitive, world music just a tad too loud for watching the games and chatting. Come on, it's a restaurant/bar, not a lounge.

We heard that the terrace had great views. It's a beautiful terrace, but I wouldn't necessarily say the views were great at breakfast. I'm sure it's much nicer in the evening. Pricey for breakfast. The food was very good and the service was excellent.

We went here for a college graduation dinner for my daughter. We had a party of 8, and out of those 8, one was in a wheelchair..and the other had difficulty walking. Well, the staff could not have been nicer. They were so accommodating and generous with their time. 2 of the older adults were from Florida, and although to us Chicagoans it was a very pleasant night on the rooftop, it was not for the Miamians. Dyamond was our server, and could not do enough to accommodate us. I asked for a blanket for the 2 that were shivering, he got it!! Our drinks were never empty, he was kind and patient with us...which is not alway easy when dealing with senior citizens. Everyone raved about the food. Truly, my daughter had a wonderful experience...as did we all. Thank you to Dyamond who was just great. And to the Gwen...we will be back.

The cocktail I tried was a good one: with Proseco, Rom, rosemary and pear pure. Comfortable sofas and comfortable lighting. Highly recommended.

I cannot wait to come back to visit this rooftop bar! It is open year round and offers warm drinks and heaters for winter. The best part during the cold months, curling! I’ve never played before but had a blast and Nolan was willing to help. Drinks are delicious and Angel and Mimi are willing to offer amazing suggestions.

Had a miserable experience on a Friday night. Super loud, took over 20 minutes to get 2 drinks. When they came, one was undrinkable. Too sweet, too strong, too too. It might have been good if you mixed it with an equal amount of club soda. Won’t be returning.

Kostali provided the perfect atmosphere and flavors for reconnecting with dear friends. Thank you, Kayla for allowing us to dine slowly, drink heartily, talk, and laugh. When old friends get together, it can take awhile. Kayla was a gracious host that gave us the space and time we needed while providing excellent service. Kostali's food is wonderful. This is not a meal we will soon forget.

Not only have I found my perfect hotel in The Gwen, but the perfect little refuge in Upstairs at The Gwen. Eddie at the bar is the quintessential professional, makes the perfect cocktail, and can answer just about any question one might have about Chicago. The cabin and curling outside are quaint, and the food is delicious. Whenever I'm visiting Chicago, I'll be at The Gwen.

We heard about the Bar at the Gwen and the rooftop view, and also the Curling. We were so excited! It was December and cold outside but that was fine. We arrived to find a lovely indoor bar, pretentious, but lovely. We headed outside to the outdoor bar. It was way smaller than we expected and there isn't really a view, well not a good view of Chicago. The Curling area was so small and not really curling in the technical sense. The little Alpine hut is very cute and the fire pit is awesome. Service was marginal at best...Slow and civil, but not terribly friendly. I have to say it was ok, but we were disappointed. There was alot of hype, but the reality did not live up to the hype.

My daughter and I had a most memorable evening at this trendy and charming rooftop. The atmosphere was so relaxing and perfect. Our drinks were unique and delicious, and the burgers we had were the best! Highly recommend.

Staying at the hotel and Sunday brunch was delicious. Very accommodating to switching sides to salad instead of potatoes with my yummy avocado toast. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. We sat outside under an umbrella. Service was good too!

We came to this spot for pre-dinner drinks for a bachelorette weekend and Kelly and Kayla were AMAZING! Their service was wonderful and they made the start of our weekend so fun by being incredibly kind and welcoming! The bride was very happy with the experience.

Wonderful meal. One of the best meals we have had in a long time. Chick pea beignets over smoked lentils so good!!! Creative and delicious. Kayla was an attentive and kind server. Had a great Israeli wine too.

We stopped in for a drink and cannot say enough good things about the property and staff. Shout out to Mary Claire, Jason, Kelli, and Daviel! Everyone was so friendly and accommodating and the rooftop terrace was a great way to end our night.

I visited the Gwen with some friends on October 5th and it was EVERYTHING! Such a classy place with reasonable prices. Our waitress was very sweet! The hostess Kyle was amazing. He was so friendly and catered to our needs and concerns alike. Josè was rude but I will still give this place a 5! I will be visiting again for sure. The food was delicious as well.

My mom came into town and stayed at the Gwen and got us reservations to have dinner together. From the second I checked in with Micheal at the host stand, he gave us outstanding customer service. He remembered my mom immediately, went and prepped our space on the rooftop with some glasses of champagne and checked back on us frequently. He made our whole evening so lovely and made us feel so special and cared for! He’s such an asset to the Gwen, we would come back because of him!

Exquisite and delectable, the meal, the furnishings and the service! Troy was simply the best. If you’re in Chicago it’s a must see. I’m excited for my next trip as I understand the menu is always changing. Everything we ordered was wonderful

I truly enjoyed my breakfast at the Gwen! Charles and Ari were great! Charles was so welcoming with his greeting, and Ari was the perfect server. It was my first time dining here. They both assisted when needed and made me feel welcome. Thank you Charles for superb service with a smile. Thank you Ari for the small talk.

If I was rating the staff, it’d be a five star review. The pub/restaurant itself, not so much. Am unsure of it’s high rating and 2022 award. Was it good? Yes. Great? Not really. Exceptional? No way. Menu is adequate, not very expansive, boarding on small. No fresh squeezed juices. Food was prepared okay, yet just okay. Again, the staff is awesome, though for location and prices charged, that’s just par for the course. I’m still wondering where the high ratings came from, exactly. Enjoy.

The atmosphere is really good, they have a plenty options of beers, wine and spirits. But the cocktails are really good, I had the Zigzag and is really good, I’m not fan of the cocktails, but definitely this is one of my top 3 best cocktails. The food also is really good, I had the Burrata and the Tuna Tartare and both were delicious. Also they have a very friendly and helpful staff.

This is an awesome rooftop bar located inside The Gwen hotel; they offer good drinks and a cool ambiance. Service is great and the drinks are delish. Can sit outside for a view or indoors for some privacy. Been here a few times and it’s always a hoot.

We loved the Gwen! We had such great service from everyone especially Nicole in the restaurant circa. She was the best waitress we’ve ever had. She was professional and kind. I highly recommend the Gwen and especially Nicole the waitress.

The Upstairs at the Gwen has a fabulous rooftop, with plenty of fire tables for warmth! Service is phenomenal, Bridget is the warmest (pun-intended!) server, offering up great riddles and conversation alongside the expertly crafted cocktails. Highly recommend!

a little hard to find but one of the best mediteranean fusion menus i've tasted. Check it out on a weekday and you can get a table without a reservation.

Had a great first experience in Chicago! Judie the Hostess was very accommodating in seating us at a fantastic sunny location on the terrace and was only topped by Michael’s superb service and attitude. Excellent experience, great drinks and excellent food! Will be back!!

Stopped by The Gwen bar last week. The bartender, Eddie, is simply amazing! I was the former GM for Nordstrom, attached to The Gwen, years ago, and occasionally would go and have a drink after work. It was then when I met Eddie. I subsequently got promoted to our Seattle headquarters, and was there for four years. Recently, I returned to Chicago, and decided to have a drinks with some former colleagues. As soon as I entered the bar area, there was Eddie, with a broad smile and open arms! He addressed me by name, and offered me my “usual drink”. How he remembered me is crazy! He is, in a word, amazing! Hats off to Eddie, and The Gwen’s wherewithal to employ him!!

Really enjoyed our time at the Gwen. Our server Bridget was especially helpful and gave us great recommendations for the bar bites and drinks.

Troy was our server and super attentive. Todd loved his Nduja, was super tasty. I definitely would recommend the food and atmosphere for a nice night out.
