Urban Farmer is in the Nines Hotel. It is a nice place for breakfast, with a very good setting, fine food and good services. Prices were reasonable too.

5 star service, 5 star food. Pretty expensive but worth it. We shared the steak flight with wagyu and a charcuterie plate with a $120 bottle of wine. Our server knew EVERYTHING about meat and wine. It's been awhile since I've been to a restaurant this nice. Check out the bar upstairs on the roof afterwards for a spectacular view of downtown Portland.

The cocktails were wonderful, really creative! Charcuterie and cheese was fun to share, and desserts were delicious!

Great attentive wait staff. The risotto was very good as was the ice cream (toffee). They grow their own mushrooms; amazing!

The Urban Farmer at The Nines - Portland OR. Pamper your taste buds in style. They locally source ingredients such as their pork from "Tails and Trotters", fresh bakes bread / brioche / english muffins and coffee from Stumptown. Your eyes and appetite will be delighted by the "dwell style" urban decor and their chef's sublime method of melding flavors to produce a beautiful and delicious entree - time after time. Worthy of the visit whether or not you are staying at The Nines. Put Urban Farmer on your "to do" list :)

Food was good. The salad was amazing. They also had a special beef Wellington that was quite the show. Great ambiance. Service, while nice staff, was a bit on the slow side.

On the eight floor of the hotel in an interior open space at least eight stories high, it’s an interesting space. Came here for desserts after dinner at Departure on the rooftop of the building. The desserts were all first rate.

We went for dinner, late one night… It is inside the hotel of The Nines. The service was excellent and the menu, especially the steak selection was fantastic. The side dishes are to die for! They have a full wine and bar menu available. There is also a rooftop bar, and another restaurant, with incredible views of the city. Fantastic way to end the evening! We will definitely be going back to this one! And, as an added bonus, they take reservations!

We came here for drinks and live music on a Tuesday night. The atmosphere is awesome, and the singer was amazing. The wine was great but expensive. The menu didn't blow me away so we ate elsewhere. We stayed for about 45 minutes.

In Portland for business and had dinner here one night. We didn’t have reservations but we’re able to sit a a bar table. The halibut was cooked perfect and delicious. The server was also excellent.

We had one dinner and two breakfasts as we were staying in the hotel. Food was exceptionally good at dinner. We loved everything we ate. Food at breakfast was good, but nothing special. Service at all times was great.

I love farm to table, and we stayed at The Nines. It was an easy decision to eat here. The food is really good. The service is really good. I'm sure it feels more intimate during a dinner service, but that is lost in lobby's daylight.

Urban Farmer is good at what it does. The menu is heavy on meats, but with many different options to choose from. At first glance the prices seem high but the portions are large. A pork chop and grits plate was huge and flavorful. The barbecue special was fabulous, especially the sausage. The Wagyu beef was excellent as were the Caesar salads. Located in the 8th floor atrium in The Nines, the restaurant has an unusual look and feel to it. You don't feel like you are in a dark and dingy steakhouse, but rather you are sitting in a well lit atrium with very high ceilings. The other somewhat odd thing is that the restaurant area is much larger and more complicated than it might appear from some tables because of how it wraps around. The bottom line is that if you are looking for beef or pork, this place is very good.

This re-known restaurant located downtown Portland is a sure bet for a nice dinner with friends. We came for lunch and dinner in the last year and recommend the night experience without a doubt. The downside of that location are that the food is still very focus on meat and with a restaurant including the word "farm" in it, it seems odd to me that they have so little complicated vegetarian or from the ground dishes. The dishes are good but more pleasant to meat lovers if you asked me. The pour of the wine glass is also pretty light. Maybe it is a downtown Portland thing, but I do enjoy the heavier pour especially for the price paid by glass. I recommend this place to anyone. It is great. Although for a more complete and wowing experience, I do think that there are better options in Rip City.

Review for Breakfast: The Dungeness omlete is amazing, as well the egg Benedict… they run out of tow out of the three options pretty quick. You have to arrive early. French toast is ok, pancakes are good. Açaí bowl is truly excellent. Break your fast sandwich is good too. The spicy Bloody Mary is one of the best I ever tried. I tried at least a hundred. So, on Friday night, I tried another Bloody Mary at the lounge, but this one from the same bar was very mediocre…. So, I guess depends on who is making it. Very important tip. For breakfast on the weekends, make a reservation even if you stay in the hotel. Wait could be as long as one hour. The seating hostesses with dark hair and expressionless face on the morning of Sunday June 16 ….. she needs a lesson in work ethics: “I will submit an official review/comments/feedback to hospital administration, directly”. Review for Dinner: Ok for lazy/tired people like us to stay at the hotel The steak tasting the grass fed are ok, the corn fed is better, the aged steak is the best and the waygu is the same but fattier. The charcuterie is OK even with adding extra and deviled eggs. The green salad is amazing. The mushrooms are half good half not. The Mac and cheese was terrible, we had to return it. Cooked from top but not in the bottom with liquids milk/cream and not cheese. Wine: the bottle was warm, so the juice was warm, as well. Even for a red wine, there is a certain temperature degree for serving. The sommelier was useless, good enough to open the bottle. The service, slow (on a very slow weekday night) but very nice and knowledgeable. So, not worth the price, and definitely did not meet our expectations for a steak restaurant…. It is supposed to be a really good steakhouse. Try somewhere else.

So I definitely thought the pictures make this place seem outdoors - it's not, it's actually in the atrium of a hotel. Nevertheless, this was a good pick if you like steaks. Very friendly service and knowledgeable waiters. Got the Wagyu which was fun to try. Sides were very delicious as well.

I was really impressed by the seating near the check-in desk (at The Nines hotel). Our waitress was friendly and efficient. We had drinks and shared different plates off the happy hour menu and everything was so good.

Don’t get me wrong, our waitress Amy was wonderful as was the rest of the service. BUT if you want a good steak with all the fixings, go to El Gaucho or Ringside! I shared a $52 ribeye which was largely sinew - well cooked, but not enough meat for the price... Sides were fine as were the starters & salads. But if you’re spending $190 including tip, I expect it to be GREAT! It wasn’t....rather mediocre...

I've been to Urban Farmer three times now for various work lunches. Located in The Nines hotel in downtown Portland, its a gorgeous, modern restaurant. The hotel is located right across from Pioneer Square so if you're in Portland seeing the sights, it is a great place to grab a bite to eat. The food is always excellent and the staff are very accommodating. We usually have a few special requests when our team meets there for lunch and they have accommodated every single one with excellence. From which table we'd like to gluten free requests, they provide great service for every need.

Farm to table fair. I had breakfast there during my stay at the Nines. Also had a great steak with amazing mac&cheese on the side. Excellent craft whiskey selection. Knowledgeable staff. Friendly service.

We went Urban Farmer for the Easter Brunch and found the variety and quality of food to be very good. Many of the dishes weren't "traditional" brunch fare, like oysters on the half-shell or charcuterie, but there was something delicious in the buffet for everyone. The drink menu, again, had many choices from interesting cocktails to a good wine and beer list. Our server was friendly and helpful but was a little absent minded which could be due to how busy it was for the holiday dining. The setting in the glass-roofed atrium was comfortable, bright and delightful. We'd like to go back for a non-brunch meal sometime.

The restaurant is located inside the Nines Hotel, where I stayed, so it was certainly a convenient choice. The food was good, the service was nice. I especially liked the tomato soup. It was flavorful, hearty but light. The crispy mushroom and basil added a beautiful kick to the flavor; certainly the best tomato soup I have had. The grass fed ribeye was perfectly grilled medium rare as requested. I also had breakfast the following morning at the restaurant, and I liked the avocado toast as well.

Me and my friend went there for breakfast, we liked all what we ordered, the service was fast and the hosts were very friendly, the decoration of the restaurant is vey elegant. we regret there was not time for us (our visit was shot) to try lunch or dinner in this restaurant.

Creative menu for brunch! Housemade English Muffin…Cherry chicken sausage…yummy! The coffee is great, which is important to me.

I was having a meeting at The Nines hotel, and a friend recommended that we eat here for dinner. I had a big lunch, so we shared a steak, and I had a salad with Brussels sprouts to accompany it. The steak was tender and perfectly cooked, and the veggies were tasty. My friends had steak and the fish (can't remember which one, but it looked delicious, and she enjoyed it). Our waiter was attentive, friendly and knowledgable.

This was undeniably one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've ever encountered, marked by failures at every turn. I was the third in our group to arrive and order, and I requested coffee with steamed oat milk. After waiting for approximately 12 minutes, a friend arrived and ordered a cappuccino. Strangely, my friend's coffee arrived before mine, when it finally did, it came with premixed, milk and coffee – a clear initial misstep. While the waiter did apologize, I brushed it off and found the taste decent but not memorable. Moving on to breakfast, I ordered the honey-glazed ham Benedict. It felt like an eternity for the food to arrive, and when it did, I was served the wrong dish: an avocado spinach Benedict. I informed the waiter, who promptly apologized and took it back to the kitchen. I also requested that they ensure the egg whites weren't as runny. Twenty minutes later, I observed a waiter carrying what appeared to be a ham Benedict, but it was offered to another table, then returned to the kitchen. Finally, my food arrived, but to my dismay, I received two hard-boiled eggs Benedict, which was terrible. I fell ill shortly after eating but chose not to complain, so as not to disrupt our gathering. Later, when we ordered coffee refills it took an unreasonably long time for them to arrive, and when everyone else received their coffee, I did not. I politely asked the waitress who delivered the coffee for mine, she responded rudely, saying, "Well, I only have two hands." I replied, "No problem, I'm just asking." Finally, when I did receive my coffee, it was filled to the rim with cow's milk instead of oat milk on the side, and there was no room to add any milk to the cup. Shortly afterward, the waitress with "only two hands" dropped a tray full of plates and glasses onto the floor. A few minutes later, another waiter brought two dishes to our table that didn't belong to any of us. FAIL!

Although it’s gone through too much change in “management”, overall management hadn’t suffered too much and it’s still an amazing spot thanks to the consistency of the bartenders, Johnny, Colby, and Mike. They can concoct the most impossible and amazing creations as well as the most yummy mainstays. Johnny makes the best bourbon drinks for my friends and he is such a sweetheart. Hopefully he will ASK his sweetheart sooon.

Located in the Nines hotel on the eighth floor behind the reception area this restaurant is located beneath a soaring atrium and has noise baffling partitions to create an oasis effect while you are dining. Fresh local ingredients highlight the cuisine. We dined with a large party 10 in all and our server did a great job managing separate checks, plate sharing and other requests. My wife and I shared the rock cod on a bed or tomato sauce with small potatoes in a broth, oysters on the half shell, and creamed spinach with each dish properly prepared and large enough to share. Others enjoyed burgers, soups, salads etc. Wines and other beverages are pricey with smallish pours and entree pricing is stiff. If you are a hotel guest this is a convenient option otherwise there are many other places in the downtown.

Love their breakfast. Top 5 I have had in the area. Everything was delicious! Best English muffins ever!! Great service!

For ambience, Urban Farmer is barely half a step above McDonald's. The steak, potato tart, and mushrooms were "to die for" delicious but what happened to the salmon should be a criminal offense. The service was superb....until they apparently forgot about us as we waited 30 minutes for dessert. Don't bother to dress up...half the clientele was in T shirts. If you are under 40, you may not care about that. But we aren't and we will never go back there again. Oh, and by the way, 3% tip is added to the bill before you pay the tip.

Steak selection is amazing with all types of tastes for everyone. The service was excellent and on top of things at all times (i.e. keeping my water filled and drinks in my hand). The Brussel sprouts and various sides we tried were all excellent. Would definitely like to try other dishes my next time around.

I'm from the farm.....grew up working cattle and plenty of grass fed yummies around my household. So, when a group says they are farm to table then I take notice. This is in the Nines Hotel which is very fancy and screams service. So how'd they do you ask. They did ok. Food was good but not crazy and the environment was good but not over the top. So, if your staying at the Nines then U BET....go try it. If your not then there are plenty of good spots to check out on the corner blocks in downtown Portland

The restaurant is located in a 5 stars hotel and it is an interesting concept to combine farmers fresh products served in a elegant country style setting. Very good service in a garden like atmosphere, good food and peraphs a bit expensive, but to be considered that it is in a luxury hotel. My choice “Farm Eggs Any Style” was $15.

After hearing good things about this restaurant, I decided to stop by. The environment is great for lounging. I ordered creamed spinach appetizer and it was delish, piping hot. The only negative is the 2% surcharge. Would return if in the area.

Corn soup. Farmers salad. Steak. Mushrooms. I loved every single bite. The cornbread was heavenly also. Nice ambiance and great service.

We spent $60 for 2 for breakfast with no bloody mary even, which looked fantastic. Food was unique, very tasty and service was excellent

We have had breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner at this restaurant and it has been wonderful every time, year over year. Service, quality, taste, look, all of it is amazing.

Service was excellent. Food was not to my standard. Chicken was over size seemed like a GMO chicken. nuts were full of sugar. I have lots of allergies and the menu did not offer any choice for me to eat healthy.

Arrived at 4pm and had no problem getting a table. It’s a nice, airy space. Had the slider, the oysters, the fries, the meatballs and the drumsticks. All were excellent and we had extra orders of oysters and drumsticks. The beer (Pfriem) was also perfect for a hot summer afternoon. Not cheap, but a very pleasant family meal.

This was once one of my favorite restaurants in Portland. I’ll neverv eat there again, I won’t stay at the hotel and I’ll tell anyone who listens to do the same. It’s one thing to get a bad meal. It’s a completely different experiance to have a cook deliberately serve tainted food That’s what happened for me. Worse, what they did was specifically unhealthy/dangerous for me. I have a condition where eating too much salt make it difficult for me to breath. (One sad result is I eat out very infrequently.) Dining out used to be one of my favorite pastimes. When I do go out I assume I’ll get too much salt but I ask that if they salt food in preparation or after it’s cooked not to. I’m obnoxious about it and accept that food may be saltier than I’d like. It’s a trade off for the pleasure of a good meal. On my 20th wedding Anniversary I went to Urban Farmer. As usual I asked they not add extra salt. My salad arrived I took two bites and the salt was overpowering. My wife tried it and spit it out. I could see white salt crystals in the salad. 30 minutes later both my wife and I had salty tastes in our mouths. I was told by both the manager and my waiter this dalad got no salt in it at all. When I showed it to the manager he saw the excess salt and was furious. He went to speak with the kitchen. That was a good move but too little too late. I could not trust anything that came out of that kitchen at this point. A cook deliberately did this. The manager said as much. Would this same kitchen put peanuts in the food of a person with an allergy? Who knows. Any chef who hires a cook who is willing to taint food and serve it should never be allowed in a kitchen again. This is on the chef. His name is Matt Christianson. I’ll never eat anywhere he as any association with. Urban Farmer? Do not risk it. Who knows if that cook still works there but I know the chef does.

I wandered into urban farmer after work and had such a pleasant experience. Emily and Darla welcomed me in and made me feel at home. And Mike and Colby begins the bar made sure I was taken care of and made the best old fashioned I’ve had in Portland. I will definitely be back

I stayed at The Nines (hotel where Urban Farmer is located) and had breakfast here each morning. The coffee was good and breakfast was tasty... the only reason I'm giving it 4 vice 5 stars is because of the cost. I had fruit and a bagel (toasted with cream cheese) for $12 and pancakes (fabulous) for $14. If I hadn't been on per diem during a work trip, I don't think I would have chosen to eat breakfast here because of the cost. Having said all of that, everything that I had for breakfast was wonderful! My coworker had the crab omelet and really enjoyed it.

We have missed Urban Farmer as it had become one of our favorite restaurants. It's a difficult time here in Portland, COVID, protests and now forest fires. Receiving the email announcing Urban Farmer's return (in limited fashion) was fabulous news. We had dinner the second weekend it was open. Althought the menu was limited the food and the service were not. Nick was our server, he was attentive, gracious, personable (in true Urban Farmer fashion). The burger was perfect, the vibe cool, elegant but casual. Music to match. Can't wait for Urban Farmer to come back firing on all cylinders.

It’s in the 8th floor of Ninths Hotel in centre of Portland,American casual steak house, service was efficient and great, the Menu is balanced between expensive steaks and some normal dishes to meet all budget, bur you can’t resist the Steaks. A bit expensive.

When we are in Portland we Always eat either here or destination which are both in The Nines Hotel. We are big foodies so Having amazing food on our travels is very important. We had breakfast and dinner here The food and service are amazing! We will start with breakfast. For breakfast we had the farmhouse omelette which is amazing. Their in-house English muffins our heavenly. They are toasted somehow with butter and you shouldn’t miss them. If you like sweets there banana pecan Pancakes are a little crispy on the edges and they Melt in your mouth and our heavenly. Best avocado toast ever and they have a Mamosa selection that you can do huckleberry. Don’t miss that Anissa Is the best server! Definitely request her. so far all the servers have been fabulous but we especially loved her. I wanted a Mamosa and she suggested the huckleberry. Oh my goodness my new favorite Mamosa! For dinner our waiter was able to make everything happen for us even though they are still slightly in quarantine menu. If you like meat their blue cheese truffle butter is amazing. And their steaks or beyond fabulous. We all had a drink called FARM no.3 We all had two of them they were so delicious. Check that out! Apparently it’s One of their most requested drinks. we loved Joseph for being so Accommodating and Efficient Thank you urban farmhouse for making yet another of our vacations so fabulous.

We are here for breakfast. The food was fantastic. We had the steak and eggs and craft Benedict. We would come again!

Located downtown in The Nines hotel... lovely decor and atmosphere Food was very tasty and serviers prompt and attentive It was Christmas Day So downtown and restaurant were not especially busy .....it was a very Good experience

One of the best meals we had in Portland. Beautiful decor in a great location. Urban Farmer is located on the 8th floor of The Nines hotel. Staff are friendly and efficient. The short rib hash on the daily fresh sheet was to die for

Hipster Portland only semi-intrudes on what is a very good place to play carnivore. The choice of dry-aged steak is impressive and there are a range of delicious sides if you want to feel a little less guilty.

Urban Farmer serves up modern northwest fare in a country-chic restaurant in 8th-floor atrium of the Nines Hotel. We visited for brunch. Their house made english muffins were delicious--more like a crumpet. I also enjoyed the biscuits and gravy, which was actually a breakfast sandwich with egg and chicken. Great, friendly service.

We went to a trail Blazer game and was hungry after. We decided to come here and grab a burger. The burger was eh. The fries were soggy and Luke warm. I know it's late but expected more.

Vegan picks - Carrot Risotto with thyme roasted mushrooms, and Roasted Beets with chicory, watercress, banyuls, & pecan. The service is excellent here! My waiter double-checked with the kitchen to see if my carrot risotto could be veganised. It could and it was delicious!! ... So were the beets! Love this hotel and restaurant :) Always on my hit list for good eats while in Portland.

My husband and I had just checked in at The Nines and was pleased to find out this was in their atrium on the 8th floor. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. The food was great. Everything is made fresh and you can tell. I had the farmers burger. It had a tomato jam, aioli And white cheddar served in homemade English muffin. Do not let the English muffin throw you off. It’s not like anything you’ve ever had. I don’t think we can ever eat a regular one from now on. My husband had the clam chowder and kept saying how delicious it was. He ordered an English muffin as a side and oh my! The blackberry jam rocked! I’m glad this is in our hotel as I’m sure it’s not the last time we will dine here during our 3 day stay. Highly recommend. Keep in mind that the brunch/lunch menu is limited if you do t want breakfast foods though. That’s would be my only recommendation is to add a few other non breakfast options.

I typically don’t write a review unless I’ve had a positive experience. However this was such an extraordinarily bad experience I feel compelled to write in the hopes that it will reach the management of the hotel and restaurant. We ordered 2 steaks, fish and sides. After about 40 minutes our food arrived. One steak was overcooked so we sent it back. We knew it would result in everyone else being well underway with their meal but accepted that. However 20 minutes later; a medium steak doesn’t take that long to cook, a steak was served. One cut into the steak and it was obvious that the steak was quite rare. So back it went and we gave up. They deducted the steak and three sides. Why the drinks also were not comped given the markup on alcohol, is still a mystery to me. We came for a birthday dinner and memories; some of us got dinner, as for the memories, we left them at the table.

The Urban Farmer is excellent - great attention to detail. The plated meals were beautiful! Our meal & experience were fantastic. Hats off to the chef and staff.

We had just checked in and decided to ask around for some local grub. Located inside the hotel, the ambiance was great, full of everyday people, very open and welcoming. We shared deviled eggs and fries to start and then had grits and Duck confit. All we served very neat and unique...pir only complaint was that it took awhile to get our food...or maybe we were extremely hungry from our travels .

The occasion was Christmas Eve and the menu was limited. We were staying in the hotel and we wanted to dine in the hotel. We had read a lot about this restaurant and we knew they specialized in steaks. I had reviewed the menu and decided that there were sufficient selections in the starters, entrees and sides. We had martinis and an awesome cheese plate in the lobby while we were wait for our reservation time. When we were seated at our table, there was some confusion. My husband received a fixed price menu (3 courses) and I received an ala cart menu. We were not made aware of the fixed price menu, but we did not make a fuss and were each ordered 3 courses. For our main dishes, I ordered the duck breast and my husband ordered scallops. Duck was being featured and I am an avid duck fan. The duck breast was tender, but the preparation did not wow. The scallops were delicious. Of the starters and sides we ordered, the butternut squash was worth mentioning as it was outstanding. The service was good, but it became slow as the restaurant filled up.

Wether you drive and park or train to Portland Square, there is a classy lunch spots at The Nines Hotel (8th floor) that is worth the trip. For brunch I have eggs bennie with Canadian. When the dish arrived, the server explained after I asked, they don't serve Canadian bacon just ham. Well, why don't you say so on the menu? The place is very nice, spacious, artsy, and well furnished. Nothing pretentious. Might be difficult for some to easily find...be specific with your directions. I found the great value in the train stop right at Courthouse Square...and just walk across the street. Nothing easier. Portland is being trashed recently as dangerous...I had a visitor staying downtown who asked if it was safe. Gads. It has come to this. This town is far better than that fear. Have a little time...enjoy the Urban Farmer...remember the eight floor.

Three of us enjoyed an early Sunday dinner at this restaurant nestled on the eighth floor of a downtown hotel, and we were not disappointed. First the wine list was extensive with hundreds of listings ranging from two to four digit sums, yet our waiter managed to pick us a nice blend for $80, well done! Next the food, the cornbread baked in a soup can was moist, sweet and tasty, we had to ask for more. We split the NY steak tasting augmented by a wagyu cut. The four, 6oz cuts were more than enough for the three of us. All were exceptional. The sides especially the Mac n cheese were similarly delicious. Only disappointment was dessert, the oatmeal apple pie was nothing special. But the steaks and service, simply superb.

As guests at The Nines we had 4 breakfasts at the Urban Farmer. Both Malicahi and Audrey were exceptional servers. Helpful with the area, great servers, and attentive but not over bearing. Thank you for making our stay an enjoyable one.

We were waiting for our room to be ready at the hotel and decided to have a late afternoon bite as we had late dinner reservations. The space is set up in interesting fashion as it has regular seating, bar seating and it moves out in to the lobby where there are clusters of couches and chairs. It is located in the atrium /lobby (which is on the 7th floor) of the hotel---with great natural light working it's way in to the space in the day. Nothing beats a very pleasant and helpful server, some fresh oysters and a glass of white burgundy---taking in the light and enjoying the comfort of a plump chair.

Had their special blue cheese souffle as a starter. Beautiful as it was delicious. We almost licked the plate. My mom, sister and I split the NY Steak tasting. Amazing how three steaks can be all amazing and still taste completely different. Melt in your mouth good! What's funny is that each of us had a different favorite of the three. Creamed spinach was awesome, but the foraged mushrooms were over the top good! With crispy shallots and roasted mushrooms - delicious! Too full for dessert but wanted to try the butterscotch sundae. Next time! (Side note: I made these reservations based on TripAdvisor reviews before realizing it was our restaurant in our hotel - The Nines. Serandipitous!)

With attention to sourcing and quality, Urban Farmer has a lot to offer. From a wide selection of dishes - for vegetarians/vegans to the meat eaters - everyone can find something to like. The burger on a homemade english muffin was super tasty and the fries were crisp and not greasy. Full bar - great service.

Unless you know where to look, this bar is not easy to discover. But both the hotel and the bar/restaurant is highly recommended. The bar is like an extended lobby to the hotel, but not at the ground floor. You have to go by elevator. Modern and fun, and with a very service minded staff.

Chill, low lights, great service, middle of hotel on a cool art floor 8, craft cocktails. I had an amazing vodka/violet

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner this evening at Urban Farmer. We started off with and loved the carrot soup and the Heirloom tomato/mozzarella crostini. Both dishes were very tasty! He had the 12 oz. flat iron steak which was perfectly cooked. I can't say enough about the Day Boat Scallops with pork belly and carrots which I ordered. The scallops were the best I have ever had. We also shared a side of the Sweet Corn Maque Choux which was fresh and flavorful. All of the portions were decent size. For dessert, we shared a small Peach Melba Souffle with raspberry custard sauce. It was light, creamy and very warm. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We both thought the ambience was warm, modern and inviting. We look forward to going back again to try some of the other delicious sounding menu items.

Had two fabulous meals here. Had dinner first. Everything was outstanding, the octopus appetizer, cheese plate with honey from rooftop beehives, charcuterie, chopped salad, cornbread, steak, Yukon potato puree. The decor is amazing as well; even though it’s in the atrium of the luxe Nines hotel, its decor was perfect for its farm to table theme. Customer service was unparalleled; when a solo guest next to us continuously talked on her phone and Face-timed while eating her meal, our server apologized, even though we didn’t say anything, and comped our drinks and gave us free dessert. It was unnecessary but so thoughtful. Since dinner was so amazing, we had to return for breakfast and that was equally impressive. And so inexpensive for a hotel breakfast! We picked three breakfast classics for $15. Everything was delicious. The waitstaff both times (Nicholas and Laura) we’re friendly, unpretentious, and attentive. Perfection.

We had a fantastic Sunday brunch* Love the food selection, cocktail selection here. Had the bloody Mary with a condiments bar. Awesome! Tuna, avocado toast, crab & mushroom eggs Benedict, pears in Bubbles. The atmosphere is bright and sunny the day we visited. The staff were friendly and knowledgable of what's on the menu. Would I visit again- Yes!!

We have come here the past 2 Christmas mornings and been here for dinners as well. As for the christmas breakfast they do a great job with just a few plated menu items and sides that they offer makes it easy to choose ;). Staff here is some of the best of Portland. Looking forward to next Christmas

Nice atmosphere and good food. I’m not a fan of Al la carte steak houses. IMHO it’s insulting to pay $12+ for potatoes while being charged $50+ For a steak. While this does serve Al la carte, it was still a good meal I’ve been to plenty of steak houses where they have different aged meat choices, but this is the first where feed type was a selection. We opted for the tasting option, which was three 6oz NY strips - grass fed, corn fed, grain finished. This was a great way to experience how feed impacts the meat Good service and they have implemented farm to table practices.

Loved the ambiance, the staff, the food! It was just what we expected as we celebrated our anniversary! We will definitely comeback next time we are in town.

In the midst of downtown Portland, somewhat hidden on the 8th floor of The Nines, this place never disappoints. Especially the other night, when the menu blurred over and I asked why the menu hadn't changed in so long...only to have Johnny, the most personable bartender in town (whose smile lights up the room), pointed to several new additions. I wish I'd taken a picture of the absolutely beautifully presented heirloom tomato and mozzarella salad. It was not a basic, boring caprese! But an artistically designed blood red crescent moon splayed across the side of the plate. The English pea soup with garden flowers grown on the rooftop is also one you'd want to savor and try to replicate in your own kitchen. (Served with killer corn bread). The chef that night, whose name I wish I remembered, was from Santa Cruz (CA), and is certainly someone to be appreciated. And if you like granola, try their house made for breakfast. It's the best. A little like Cafe Fanny Granola from Berkeley BUT even BETTER!

Nice selection of food on the menu. Great service and good food. I enjoy the atmosphere as well. This place is for two or a group setting.

For the prices charged, neither the food quality nor the service was even in the ballpark. It took us a long time to even order, and we were rarely checked on. My medium steak was completely well done. There are many other steakhouses in Portland with similar pricing but a completely different level of quality. Urban Farmer needs to either dramatically improve quality or reduce prices. It's a terrible value as it is.

We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast. The ambiance is wonderful and the service could not have been better.

We reserved the Barrel Room (private event space) at Urban Farmer for our wedding dinner. It was very easy to plan our event. We really appreciated how easy it was to plan our menu and the room layout, and how flexible the guidelines were for the room rental. We also chose Urban Farmer for the space it's in withing the hotel, both because it's very pleasant and so we and our guests would have room to roam around if we felt like it. Our event went off without a hitch. When we asked for a last-minute audio hookup they provided it right away. The staff were quietly helpful all through the night. We and our guests really enjoyed the food, especially the flank steak - everyone commented how tender it was. All and all we were very satisfied with our experience.

I was in Portland again on vacation and my family and I stopped by like we usually try to do. The staff was exceptional as always and really tended to our needs. If you've never been, this cozy Portland restaurant is a must-try!

The Oregon sirloin was so tasty ! Service was really good , the corn bread In a cab was a nice touch , also the twice baked potato was on point ! Loved it favorite place of our 10 day trip In the NWP !!

Literally 3Y ago I lived in the Nines when I moved from my country to USA, I love the hotel and the Urban Farmer has been part of my new life in Portland. Today I went with my family to have our lunch and everything was terrible: the service, the attitude and the food. First of all the glasses were dirty and and smell like egg (it is really common in the urban farmer), we ordered some basic food and take so many time, like 45 minutes for a salad with salmon and a scramble eggs, we asked for our food and the attitude from the team was ... hey, as you can see we have a big table, sorry, let me talk with the manager. The manager didn’t do nothing just gave us all free, really poor service and bad attitude from the manager. The salad was dry, the salmon extra rare, the corn bread really cold and the eggs rare also... last time in my life, there are SO many new options, please go to the sentinel or the new Hilton hotel (The Porter) and the food, the service and the attitude will be much better. I will send an e-mail directly to the staff, room to improve.

I don't often go to fancy steakhouses, but my brother and his wife were in town and we like to go out for a treat. The ambiance is just slightly strange, being as it's in the glassed in atrium well of the old Meier and Frank historic building, now converted into offices and a fancy hotel. The food was excellent. The steaks are the named varietal sort (Brandt, Painted Hills, Wagyu, etc.). I had a Painted Hills NY cut. It was prepared perfectly, and I think in the top 3 steaks I've ever had. For sides we had Brussels Sprouts, which I don't like but I did sample one and it was tasty, just the right amount of seasoning. Also the creamiest macaroni and cheese I've ever had, and a Ceaser salad. Some excellent and interesting cocktails too. The place is not cheap, but it's not ridiculously high either. I think of it as a more affordable version of a high end steakhouse. I don't know if I shall ever spring for Ruth's Chris, but I will come here again.

Delicious breakfast after a weekend at The Nines. Our server, Nick, was so wonderful and really finished off our weekend in the best way.

We love coming to this restaurant when we are in Portland because the food is so fresh and well prepared and the servers are so knowledgeable and service oriented. They did not disappoint tonight except for not having any NA beer. We had the rocket salad with cherries and blue cheese, and it was scrumptious. We shared the pork special (shank with summer vegetable cassoulet). It is enough for more than two and it was so satisfying! A great dinner again!

Amazing space and service. In the atrium of The Nines Hotel. Food was amazing ( farm to table). House made sausages were off the charts as well as house made English muffins. So much food I could only finish half. Share !

Great staff and food for breakfast. The night staff knew their drinks and spirits. Top whiskey selections in a hotel I have seen in a long time

Located in The Nines hotel with beautiful atmosphere breakfast was delightful. We wanted a quick bite and shared the Break-Your-Fast sandwich. Our server divided it for us which was top notch. Erik was efficient in service The atmosphere was electric as it was Sunday after the St. Patrick's Day race.

We visited this restaurant for dinner before a concert. The decor and ambience was very good but the service wasn't. We were not promptly greeted upon sitting at the bar. The bartender could have some classes on customer service to help improve his attitude. Our food arrived in a timely manner and was good. Bad service here would prevent me coming back in the future.

Super Expensive. Honey in every single dish (I am allergic to honey). doesn't make sense to take anything else but the stake, all other stuff is quite tasteless. Great service though.

Unless you're staying at the Nine Hotel~ you'll probably miss this place. Located on the eight floor, the restaurant is in an atrium and is very pretty. The food was very good and the waitress was very friendly and efficient. A nice place to eat.

We were staying at The Nines and decided on dinner here. The food, service, location was great! We shared the steak sample plate and sides. The steamed spinach was great!

Went to dinner and had a wonderful steak that was cooked to perfection. Also had twice baked fingerling potatoes that were awesome. The meal is not cheap but worth it- you will not be disappointed. Very attentive service.

This is a great restaurant for farm to table dining. They offer wonderful and filling dishes. The service is generally good unless they get busy. They do open at 6:30 am for breakfast. The serve brunch, lunch, and dinner as well. Nice ambience. Can be loud at times.

People rave about the steaks! I rave about the grits and poached eggs, the chestnut soup, the corn soup (when in season), the perfect freshly made French fries, and so many other perfectly prepared morsels. Chef Matt does an amazing job. And if you get a chance to try their superb Urban Farmer wine, the honey from the roof top garden, or some delicacy from the cellar...don’t be shy, go for it. And always a pleasure to talk with Jeff Brown, who oversees this terrific Sage Restaurant.

I went for a nice steak and it was great!!! It is pretty expensive but quality deserves it!! Nice variety of meat to chose for type of steak you go for! The place is a patio in a hotel which is very cosy

You can really tell that this place has a farm to table philosophy with many of their food items being made on site. We were there for breakfast but the menu offered both lunch and traditional breakfast items. We shared the crab eggs Benedict because of the home made English muffins which were fantastic but we also ordered a side of the potato which also did not disappoint. While the restaurant is situated in the atrium of a busy hotel, the space was designed to maintain privacy and a quiet dinning atmosphere. A must try.

Friendy service, and the steaks are some of the best you will find in Portland! It is situated in a patio space in the nines hotel: it misses the intimacy a bit, but very friendly service!

Family of four. We had breakfast here and it was superb. Must try the chicken cherry sausage. I had the honey biscuit pictured. It was heavenly. Definately worth it.

I have a generally dim view of hotel restaurants. I travel a lot and most hotel restaurants leave a lot to be desired. My experience in Portland was quite the opposite, starting with Urban Farmer. I checked in late, and I was on east coast time. So I was tired but hungry. I decided I didn’t want to wait for room service, so I went down to the restaurant, which is on the lobby floor. Sat at the bar. Very friendly bar man. I am over the farm to table trend. All restaurants are farm to table at some point. This place tries too hard from a decor standpoint. It’s pleasant enough, but I’m the last thing from a hipster, so that effort is lost on me. I started with a surprisingly good Caesar, then got a perfectly temped filet. But the unquestionable hit was the charred carrot and sugar pea side. It had a terrific nose, a wonderful and multi-faceted flavor profile, offsetting textural elements...what a dish. It wasn’t a cheap meal, but I was satisfied. Outstanding whiskey menu, too.

This was a great meal. We shared the New York Strip tastings with a side of the Mac n cheese and Fingerling potatoes. The steaks were hands down excellent along with the Mac n cheese. We did try the charcuterie board but would not recommend. Thai restaurant is inside a Hotel on the 8th floor. I would imagine it could get pretty loud since it is part of the lobby of the hotel.

I have to say, this was superb! The food was high quality, the service superb, the staff so friendly. One had a choice of several appetizers, entrees and dessert. Will definitely return for dinners all year.

We had a late night dinner in the Urban Farm bar. The hamburger was delicious. Pretty setting. Nick our waiter provided excellent service and made the meal special.

My husband and I went here for dinner last week when we were visiting Portland on a couples vacation. Neither of us normally likes anything fancy, but we enjoy a treat now and then. We had the chilled shrimp appetizer which was very delicious. For dinner my husband had the duck and I had the scallops. Both dishes literally melted in your mouth, I was in food heaven.

If you have a big group and you are looking for more than drinks and dinner, this is your place. Located on the 8th Floor of the Nines Hotel, Urban Farmer has good drinks, good service, and a nice billiards room. Great to check out for late now family, friends, or business dinner.

We ate breakfast there both mornings in Portland and enjoyed everything with great service and a great bar in the afternoon! Local well-sourced ingredients and in-house cultivated mushrooms!

Local farm fresh, got the 3 for $15 2 mornings while I stayed there, a bread sides is only $2 additional (I enjoyed the massive english muffin BTW). serving sizes are large enough to support a 10 mile hike! wonderful atmosphere, friendly service

Amazing restaurant and experience over all. Had the filet mignon with sautéed shrooms and mash potatoes. Was delicious down to every bite and cooked to perfection in every aspect. Our server, Zack, was amazing out going and energetic. He capped off the night by giving us some great suggestions for late night shenanigans as well. Will 100% be going back, taking clients, family, or friends.

We were pleasantly surprised at the incredible quality of the brunch at this typical “hotel” resturant. The service is amazing and the food was delish!! I had the steak and eggs and everything was perfectly presented and prepared!

Using only the freshest, finest ingredients, prepared expertly and simply and perfectly every time, with attention to detail at all levels including service, why would you go anywhere else for Fine Dining?

I expected higher quality steaks priced around $60. We had a party of four. We all ordered medium rare steaks. Two came through medium and two came through raw (not rare, but raw on the inside). Numerous back and forth trips to the kitchen did not fix things. Still not satisfied with the food. Service was "meh".

We visited for breakfast during our stay in Portland, food was amazing, great coffee and super friendly staff... The entire restaurant is lovely decorated and has a very chilled vibe.. Loved it

Stayed at The Nines Hotel. Urban Farmer located inside on the 8th floor. Good food, good bar selection and a friendly bartender. A little pricey (one entree, salad and drink was about $77.00). its of choices and a good place to meet friends.

The Urban Farmer did an outstanding job hosting our company's holiday party! This is our 3rd year at the UF and this year was exceptional. The service, the food the venue exceeded expectation. Thank you!

This is a beautiful restaurant that will make you feel special and indulged. However, on my last review I said my eggs Benedict arrived cold. Since then I've eaten here 2 more times. Once I had a crab omelette that was divine. Then I tried the eggs Benedict again--and they arrived luke warm. Sad.

Eaten here twice with good food and atmosphere both times. Steak and other choices are top-end, but the feel is more Portland "neauveau cuisine" than chop house. Not cheap, but nither was the quality. Choices of sides is tough as there were 4-5 that we wanted when 1 was enough.

The complete experience is great!! Steak tartare was amazing, and my wife’s BBQ Salmon was tasty/delicious!! No room for desert!

We had been out wine tasting all day and just wanted some appetizers and wine instead of a full blown steak dinner for which Urban Farmer is known. Our server Nick was very knowledgeable and attentive. We ordered the shrimp avocado appetizer, steak tartare (very very good), and half order of charcuterie and cheese, it was too much food but it was all really good, including the warm cornbread in a soup an with soft butter...yum.

We were looking for a spot where we could relax with a drink and some light fare. Urban Farmer proved to be the perfect choice. Located in the atrium of The Nines hotel, we were seated in the "living room". Within a roomy glass and curtained "private" space, we sat on comfortable chairs surrounding a large round coffee table perfect for placing our drinks and sharing food. We ordered the cheese selection, a flatbread, fries, and oysters. The relaxing atmosphere and attentive but casual waitstaff were just what we had hoped for. Highly recommend it you are looking for a great place to gather.

I’ve had breakfast here before...the eggs Benedict is the best I ever had. Dinner was up to par with breakfast. Had the grilled octopus as an appetizer-can be over or under cooked easily but they did it perfectly. Had the grass-fed New York and twice baked potato dish and both were outstanding. Good wine by the glass list as well as bottle. Service was equal to the meal. Very nice decor and atmosphere...

We came in for brunch on a very busy holiday weekend. We were greeted with a smile despite the obvious stress on the limited waitstaff during the hectic time we were there. Azurrea was attentive, friendly and knowledable. She answered all of our annoying questions. We really appreciate that level of service. The food was good too! My husband’s steak was perfectly cooked. The drinks are always on point as well. I decided to be slightly more adventurous and tried the Farmer 3. We will come in again and make sure that we’re seated in Azurrea’s area.

Located inside The Nines hotel. We were staying at The Nines and our friends met us for dinner. Great food, wonderful service!!! Will return when we are back in the area! Highly recommend!!

I brought a couple friends here for a small get together, and we didn't plan on staying long but the décor was so inviting and service so on point that we stayed hours longer than we had anticipated. It was a busy night but we weren't in a hurry, we started with a few drinks and they were all made perfectly. I started with a Vieux Carré, and it was probably the best I have ever had. The steaks were cooked to perfection, I ordered mine rare and it was on point. The appetizers were amazing, but the Creamed Spinach really stole the show there. The server was friendly and very accommodating, every recommendation he gave us was exact and much appreciated. I will definitely be coming back and HIGHLY recommending Urban Farmer at any point, easily the best steakhouse in Portland. I guess I do have to mention it was expensive, but well worth it, and we all felt the value. Thank you Urban Farmer for a wonderful experience!

My wife and I had an early dinner at Urban Farmer, and were seated slightly before the kitchen opened. We explored the cocktail menu and had some wonderful drinks. Our meals were very flavorful, and the cuts of meat were fantastic. The portions were very filling. They didn't quite make it to a 5, however; I ordered my steak medium rare, but it came out medium. Rather than point this out to the waiter and ask the kitchen to prepare a new steak, I chose to focus on my time with my wife. The steak remained very flavorful, and at any restaurant other than one that specializes in steaks, this wouldn't even rate a mention, but for a steak house, they kind of missed the mark.

When you pay $200 per person for a meal, you deserve a professional and TaylorMade service, that’s the way I see things. This was not the case the other night. I couldn’t access WiFi, asked the waiter who said he’ll check it which he never did. Asking him again I got a mere answer it doesn’t work (he didn’t even check) and provided no alternative (the hotel being on the same site, I’m sure there was one). In hm général the guy looked bored. Food was good but no better than other steakhouses in town

We made reservations for dinner, arrived at the Nines Hotel, took the elevator up, and was greeted by the hostess. Were were promptly seated at our table. Restaurant was fairly busy. Looked at the menu, and noticed that prices had gone up from before. But that was OK. We started to order. Some of the items, I never tasted as I'm not a fan of some of the dishes that the other members of our party ordered. But I did eat or have a taste of the main ones. The grilled mushrooms were excellent, the truffle risotto was really good, very rich with the truffle accent. Foie gras was excellent. The duck confit was one of the best duck confits I've ever had. Really tender and flavorful. I didn't try the Ahi tuna that someone had ordered, but I did try a piece of the two wagyu steaks our party ordered. The ribeye was really well flavored and very tender. And the New York was similarly well-flavored and tender as well. In fact, one of my fellow diners said that the only wagyu steak that was better, was a A5 wagyu steak grilled in front of us at an teppanyaki place in Tokyo. And I had to agree. The steaks at Urban Farmer was pretty close to those pieces of steak heaven. The desserts and other items such as sides and appetizers that we had, such as the Slab Apple pie and the Butterscotch sundae, were also delicious. I commented to my wife that everything we had was really good and was really well-executed. The food was just really flawless on this visit. So my wife left with the kids to walk around the lobby of the restaurant/hotel while I was stuck with the bill. The damage was substantial but it was a special occasion dinner. However, I noticed that they incorrectly billed me for two New York cuts of wagyu instead of one New York and one rib-eye, the latter which was correct and would have cost slightly less. I pointed this out to the server and she insisted that we had two New York cuts and thus the higher price. And then there was this 3% SRF surcharges the bottom of the bill. I asked the server what this was and I got an answer that this was about "hydroponic gardens" and all sorts of vague explanations. I rolled my eyes, paid the bill, since I didn't want to ruin the occasion, and left. I later Googled the SRF surcharge and it likely relates to the minimum wage hike in Oregon. Philosophically, I support the higher minimum wage, but adding a surcharge when the final bill is presented and you're stuck with the bill instead of reflecting the costs in the menu items seems a bit dishonest to me. Or if they had printed legibly somewhere in the menu that they were going to add a surcharge and stated the reasons why that would have been OK. Instead of some weird explanation related to "hydroponic gardens" given by the server. Would it have affected our ordering? Probably not.

If this were a stand alone resturant, be that not in a hotel lobby, rating would be a top rating of 5. I say this only thing because getting to the resturant itself can be trialing if not staying at the hotel. We have dined here a number of times for breakfast dinner and solely just for dessert. The atmosphere is impressive, a great use of space and great terrace feel. The staff have always been very friendly, accommodating and on it! The food and desserts are excellent! The steaks are truly amazing! As stated above this place deserves all of a perfect rating minus having to get to it. But once seated, I yet to be disappointed.

Really liked having a Friday business breakfast with a contact at this facility. Staff let me arrive early and give me a table, and then track down my contact. Very, very classy facility and staff with many a friendly coffee refill plus great stack of iron skillet pancakes, definitely want to come back.

We have not had a chance to dine in Portland for awhile and were in town to see Wicked this past Saturday. We had brunch at Urban Farmer which I love! Delicious Crab Omelet served with a small potato cake and a homemade English muffin. I had an Elderberry Spritzer that was refreshing. Great service and contemporary ambiance. I’ve missed Portland dining, such a great foodie town.

If you visit or if you live in Portland this is truly one of the finest of all the City's restaurants. On the eight floor, the restaurant is in located within an atrium and is gorgeous. It's so very elegant at the same time very, very comfortable with intimate nooks here and there. I've never had a better meal - the halibut with risotto and chanterelles - nor better service. While there may be restaurants with a setting, menu, service and ambience just as great, I cannot think of a better one. My only regret is that I did not have dessert. High recommend.

We stayed at the nines so when I was looking for a breakfast place was pleasantly happy to find the Urban Farmer as one of the recommended breakfast spots in town. We ate here in our last morning. I had the eggs Benedict and my husband had the house made English muffin with sausage. Both were very good just waaaayyyy too much food for us. We could have both done with a half order so you will get plenty of food to fuel up on for the day. I cannot recommend the coffee but get that’s an individuals taste. Service was good and the seating was nice with little niches. Then on our way to airport our driver shared with us that he use to be the chef there and raved about the management and how well they treated their employees. I felt it definitely showed in how well they worked together and all seemed happy from the hostess who sat us and made sure to keep us in order of arrival to our server and the other staff who helped her. We were also told afterward about a basement farm that if you ask your server about will give you a tour. We were bummed we didn’t get to see this so sharing here incase someone else might get to see. We would recommend this restaurant for breakfast for sure. Hope you enjoy as much as we did.

I ate here for breakfast, lunch & dinner while staying at The Nines. My favorite items were the conversation piece cocktail, a chicken sandwich at lunch and the prime rib Benedict at breakfast. Least favorite - mechanical animal cocktail. I don’t think this place is a good value for the money and would not come again if not staying on site.

Food was amazing until I found a hair at the bottom of my meal; gross. The server was awesome unfortunately the manager did not take responsibility- still made me pay full price for a meal that was ruined by kitchen staffs hair, so I’m writing this review. Beware!

After a couple hours of shopping, we stopped into The Nines to have a drink & a snack. Since the roof-top bar doesn’t open until 4:00, we went to the bar in Urban Farmer and were very pleased. Service was prompt and friendly. Best of all were the craft drinks prepared by Richard, the Master Mixer.

We ate delicious snacks in the afternoon on the 8th floor of the Nines Hotel. The Mushroom Risotto was the best I have ever had and the Ceaser Salad Dressing and Chicken was incredible. The ambiance is great. we sat on the sofas adjacent to the restaurant to relax more.

We had breakfast at the Urban farmer after staying at the Nines during the first night of our wine tour. The breakfast menu had a great selection of items that we both enjoyed.

Needed to get something into my stomach after just arriving in Portland. I was headed to my friend’s home for a party that evening. I asked if I could get in and out in 30 minutes and was assured that it was possible. The message got passed to my waiter who got me the menu immediately and brought me my beer while I was looking at the menu. I ate the fresh fish and found it to be outstanding. It deserved better than to be eating in a rush! I loved it the nonetheless. This place had been recommended by people I know that live in Portland and told me it was their favorite restaurant. Not only was the food excellent, but the service was attentive and friendly. After my experience, I highly recommend it.

We stayed at The Nines Hotel for about a week and we frequented this restaurant often. We had breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks there. Most of the time McKenzie was our server and she was a joy. She always referred to us by name and provided top notch service. The food and drinks here were pricey, but you pay for convenience. If you love a good Pinot Noir, the J.K. Carriere is a REALLY good one that they serve.

Wonderful variety of vegetables: seared greens and mushrooms were amazing. Ordered a salmon that was quite large and delicious.

Just arrived in Portland and selected this place from the guide book. I did not appreciate that it was a restaurant inside the atrium at a hotel...when I got there I felt like I was at 'one of those ' steak houses at LHR. WINE LIST extensive but they didn't have my first choice...so had a safe fall-back position with a local red. It was nice enough and added to the meal experience. Had the lobster bisque to start. Quite a fancy twist on the theme of soup. Tasted ok. Steak for main...again just ok. Huge slab that was slightly overdone for me. Staff were jolly and engaging. Pleasant enough. In all an ok experience. However , I would not eat here again.

I was looking for a big brunch and misstepped with this place. My fault. It is very hip, service superb and the food excellent. But for my mini piece of toast, coffee and eggs, it was expensive.

My husband and I were in town for the weekend and looking for a nice steakhouse with a waterfront view. We were fortunate enough to get early evening reservations for this restaurant a few days in advance. The atmosphere is very relaxing and quiet, the staff greeted us promptly as we entered the area and we were seated immediately even though we were about 10 minutes early for our reservation. The wait staff was very informative and answered all our questions in great detail. Food was served quickly but didn't sacrifice quality and taste. I would recommend the scallops to anyone who may have the pleasure of dining here, along with the potato start and grass fed ribeye. All mouthwatering, to die for selections!

This restaurant is located in the atrium of the Nines hotel. It's a restaurant and bar. You can book your own library room, (which includes a pool table) , that can fit about 15 people in there. The food is fantastic, menu changes, but there is always steaks and staples that they keep. Drinks are good as well. Reservations is recommended for dinner. Pros: Great for dates, friends, and family. Cons: No reservation, can be a wait if just walkin.

This restaurant has great food and there is something for all. There are great options for Steak eaters, vegetarians and Pescatarian. This place has a nice atmosphere for dinner with adults or a romantic dinner for two.

Hostess and servers seemed unhappy and disinterested. They got orders wrong and were unapologetic. Their response was to leave the table and not return: no water refill; no coffee refills; no checking in at all. My overall impression: a staff of unhappy children who did not want to be waiting tables. The Nines is a great hotel, my #1 choice in Portland; but the hotel should take a look at replacing Urban Farmer with a different restaurant.

The space is beautiful, we had reservations and were 25 min early, and despite numerous tables being unoccupied, we had to wait 20 min. The host was quite dismissive and somewhat arrogant. Once we sat down, suddenly loud 80’s music blared from speakers above our table. We requested it be turned down and we’re minimally accommodated. Sunday brunch has never been, nor will it ever be, an appropriate time for loud ‘80s music. The Jam, Soft Cell, The Fix, Psychedelic Furs, it was like being at a club in my 20’s. Food was good, atmosphere was made horrible. Won’t be going back for sure, too many other options to want to return.

The restaurant is inside the Nines hotel. It is a covered interior courtyard that goes thru the center of the hotel. The good and service in the main restaurant were tasty. We also had a group meal in a special room off the bar. The food quality and service for the limited option menu were wonderful. Room could fit 40.

I was in Portland for a conference and a large group of us went to dinner at the Urban Farmer. It's not easy to find it is on an upper floor of a hotel. Not a fan of the decor when you walk in but you can't please everyone. Waiter was great he was friendly and very knowledgeable. Drinks were good, food was fantastic very wonderful flavor on the aged steaks. Only issue, getting the food took what seemed like forever. If you want great food if however you want to get your food quickly after you order this may not be the place. I would go back if I was back in town I would just be prepared for the length of time it takes to get your food.

While staying in downtown Portland I came here one evening for dinner… I found out about it based on so many positive reviews online. I sat at the bar and the dining room area on the evening of my visit was moderately busy, but not too busy. But evidently there were three large parties going on in separate dining rooms which seemed too take up much of the kitchen’s resources. This played out in serious delays in me getting my appetizer and then my entrée. The décor in the entire place is very nice, somewhat upscale. The restaurant is inside of a VERY nice Marriott Luxury Collection hotel and the furnishings in the lobby area are stunning. Service was really nice and friendly and ultimately, even though I had such a crazy wait for my food, they gave a discount, which helped make the wait palatable. The food was outstanding! Their grilled shrimp appetizer was perfectly prepared and very tasty and there was enough there to share between three people. The burger was unbelievable! The quality of the beef on it was outstanding and the bun was their homemade English muffin, with the perfect amount of density to handle the burger without falling apart. The tomato jam and cheese on the burger really pulled the whole thing together nicely! I’d highly recommend stopping in here for a very nice dinner!

Urban Farmer is one of the best steakhouses in Downtown portland located on the 8th floor of the ultra hip Nines Hotel - NOT on the roof as the main photo as shown here. Appealing decor. Nice ambiance for downtown business meetings or that special occasion. All the steaks are fresh farm to table with a wide variety of wagyu steaks. Sides are best ordered and served family-style for the table, they bring out cornbread cooked in a can that was quite good. the creme Brule was unique and very tasty

Wow! CHECK OUT THE HAPPY HOUR AT URBAN FARMER at the NINES! 3-5 pm LEAVE WORK EARLY, sez Jack's Jaunts! Order the Stallion Safari ... if you like single barrel bourbon, you will NOT be disappointed in this delightful concoction invented by Joe, the bartender! And the happy hour sliders are heavenly!!

Breakfast is great at Urban Farmer. The English Muffins and french toast are the best that I have ever eaten.

Proud Portland design friends were happy to show-off this brilliant spot in an atrium in a clever, very stylish hotel "the Nines". Also an amazing rooftop bar with interior/exterior spaces and unbelievable views. Having only had brunch we have not sampled the advanced menus but have a feeling it would more than satisfy. Returned just for drinks later as the diverse spaces and design pulled us back! Special, unique, need more!

The service was horrible from the minute we arrived. General manager was a jerk and judgmental. Such a poor experience we didn’t even stick around for the main course. Don’t waste an evening out on this place.

Walked in for a quick lunch. Restaurant was pretty much empty (3 tables). The waitress was in short, terrible. It took her 10 minutes to answer a simple question about the menu. We ordered and waited and waited and waited. We managed to receive some meatballs, 2 sliders and some ‘chicken pops’ (awful do not order). However the rest of the meal, the Benedict, the fries and the salad were never delivered. The next table had no problems getting their meals. When we asked (after an hour) where our meals were they told us there were ‘problems in the kitchen’ and they ‘had to make the béarnaise’ - the meatballs we ordered had hollandaise on so this was blatantly untrue. I am unsure how this delayed the salad and fries. The waitress and the worlds most useless manager came over and told us they had ‘taken half off our bill’, only failed to mention this was for ALL the food, even the food we did not receive. It came to the same price as the food we had received. Absolutely terrible. Do not go, even McDonalds is better, I do not say this lightly and just wanted a nice lunch.

The food was all very average. I had a pea soup as a starter, which was pretty tasty, and others seems to like their salads starters. The evening menu is basically all meat, not many vegetarian / vegan options. Even myself who occasionally wants something a little lighter didn't have many options. The steaks were pretty average for a $60 check. Service was pretty good and the ambiance in the restaurant is good. I've eaten here at lunch before and found it much better balanced. I stay a lot in the Nines hotel and will give it one more try.

Well, it’s after 5 and they gave me exactly what I was craving. A soft poached egg on a 1/2 order of grits in pretty much a steak house. But Portland is certainly not adverse to creativity especially when Colby Blade... asks. This place is the most lovely architecturally lovely space in all of Portland. Great any time of day or night! Sadly Darla is retiring to go back to School...but she will be here til September 8!

I really want to like Urban Farmer due to its emphasis on farm-to-table cuisine; however, I just can't after my most recent meal there. I first ordered the steak tartare which was pretty good. The steaks that came after, however, were not. Both my partner and I ordered the same dry aged steak -- cooked at the same temperature: medium. When the steaks came out, mine was rare while my partner's was medium-well. Disappointed, we sent them back and waited another 30 minutes for a new pair of steaks. Yet again, we were in the same predicament: my partner's steak was medium-well while mine was rare. At 60 dollars each, I was expecting way better, especially since we gave the cook TWICE to cook a medium steak. Service was fine, and I could tell the waiter wanted to try to the fix situation to the best of his abilities. Overall, my complaint is geared more against the kitchen staff than the actual service.

Menu has ample choices, service is great, and daily specials are truly special. Cubano sandwich was just right.

We visited this place to celebrate a victory at work. This restaurant is located on the 8th floor of The Nines Hotel and the DECOR is BEAUTIFUL. The SERVICE is SUPERB! The waiter (Jason) asked us if we had been there before and since mostly of us weren’t, he proceeded to explain all types of meat cuts available in the menu: Which ranches did meat come from, how fatty they were, how tender, salty they tasted, etc. We ordered a cheese plate for the table (Chef's Selection, $21 USD) and it was a new experience seeing a cheese 🧀 specialist bring a large cart with big pieces of cheese, accompanied by apple 🍎, almonds, honey 🍯 and some long thin crackers. They served some corn bread 🍞 that apparently was cooked in some sort of cans. It’s hard to find corn bread as good as in the south but it was Ok. The SIDES are for SHARING and these were DELICIOUS! We tried the Brussels Sprouts (with citrus and maple-walnut, $14 USD), the Baked Mac N' Cheese (with cured tomato and brioche crumbs, $11 USD). We also ordered other sides that were good, just not as amazing: Yukon Gold Potato Puree ($8 USD) The STEAK was HUGE! I ordered a 24 oz Laney Family Farms Ribeye (From Oregon, corn-finished and with the bone in, for $58 USD) cooked medium rare. It was cooked perfectly and so delicious that I ate everything minus the bone. Does this mean that gluttony is justified when the steak is so good? 😊 #ruizmedina⭐️

For $55 for 2 people for breakfast I expect something pretty special. Avocado Benedict was tasteless, over cooked and over priced. To add potatoes was an additional charge and was an undercooked frozen hash brown patty. Staff was uppity...I hate uppity. Never again...oh...bonus...got to see a lady undress in her room above us.

Good selection of steaks and a pleasant restaurant to eat in. Staff and service is always good. I’ve tried a few different steaks now, and all have always been cooked to perfection.

My husband and I went for a nice dinner date. This was the best steak in Portland! We will definitely be back

Wonderful staff and the fromagiere (not sure of the spelling) was so informative and helpful. One dinner had to be sent back for being overdone but they agreed without question and added an additional item to apologize. Overall great ambiance and friendly staff.

We would love to try Urban Farmer for dinner or lunch after eating breakfast here. The homemade English muffins are to die for. Locally made marionberry jam also made an impression. We ordered both of the breakfast sausages and loved the homemade flavors and freshness. Hubby ordered farm vegetable frittata and he enjoyed it. the decor is modern and refreshing. Comfortable, large booths. We will be back.

Def not tasty - clunky breakfast that I couldn’t eat. House made English muffin was really thick and banal. Service was slow and scattered. Would avoid - in a city that has really yummy food, this will surely dissapoint. We ate here as we were staying at the hotel.

We have visited The Urban Farmer for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. The food has been consistently good. The Bar area is nice if one wants to enjoy a cocktail, beer or glass of wine. The restaurant is located inside The Nines Hotel. Service was good and friendly.
Argh, what a disappointment!
I was too tired after meetings and drive to walk to one of my favorite restaurants, so I thought I would try this- as I was staying at The Nines. Great service, poor food. The cornbread was kind of nice, but the meal went downhill from there. I ordered the aged steak. It was really sour. The a la Carte potatoes were inedible. Good Brussels Sprouts though!
