Good food for good price!

By siminb |

Randomly, I had a dinner there. I tried both salad and beef with sides. They were really delicious! I am not sure about the ambience, if you are looking for it!

Outstanding Restaurant/Cafeteria Style

By ilbert2015 |

I have been to Urban Plates on the average of once a month for the last six months. The food is very good, the ambiance friendly, parking free and the prices reasonable. The food is freshly prepared. You stand in the sandwich line, the salad line or the dinner line. My favorite is the salmon.

Organic menu

Very casual dining with an elegant feel. Wide variety of salads to full dinners. Made to order and gluten free options including desserts.

Healthy Menu

Their menu is affortable for the quality you get. I ordered a salad and it was huge and fresh, all ingredients were tasty.

Yummy comfort food!

By Dara S |

This is an order first, grab a seat later fast-casual restaurant. The cuisine included made-to-order salads, soups, carved meats, comfort foods, and lots of desserts. The large salad selection makes the food feel healthy-adjacent. The location is in the new Playa Vista shopping area. One a Sunday afternoon, this restaurant was busy, but not packed.

Cafeteria serving satisfying hearty organic meals

By Fiona Beverly |

When you're not sure what you want to eat - this place may be your answer. As it's a cafeteria, where you take a tray and slide it along the food displays, you can eyeball what looks good before making your food choice. You can also mix and match and determine the portion size you want. There is a salad bar, but meals in here tend to be hearty like Mac n' cheese, lasagne, mash potato etc.

Good food, big servings, nice location

By CTPreview |

Solid meals, big portions, and decent number of salad options. Staff were helpful and cordial. I’d not rush to go back there, or go out of my way to go there. But if you’re shopping at Whole Foods and need something dependable, fairly priced and nearby, it’s a valid option. Since there is no option between average and very good, which would be “good”, I defaulted to the better of the two.

Speedy fast lunch

By Jenny from Santa Cruz |

I was at an office nearby and stopped here while running errands at lunch time. I appreciated how quick and easy it was to order a healthy meal.

Sunday lunch

By John S |

Our family visited Urban lates for lunch on Father's Day. The food was delicious and the service was OK but not special. It's a cafeteria style restaurant where you select your main course, sides, salads etc so there was no waiting around and we all enjoyed our meals, sitting at a nice shady table outside the restaurant, where our small dog was also welcome. .

Something different

By Anal37 |

Nice place..something different. Food delicious and more than sufficient. Lot of choices whether your vegan or not. Bring the whole family.

Okay.

By Jamey D |

It's an ok place to have a meal. They have some vegetarian options, but I'm no vegetarian, so I got the Morocco chicken braise. It wasn't too bad, but may have needed a little more seasoning. It's also crowded quite a bit. Not bad, but I'm not recommending it.

In and out - and solid

By evdepaz |

Gone here multiple times in the past four weeks and we’ve had good meals. It’s like a buffet - pick up a tray and carry what you’ve selected back to your table after you pay. Big selection of fresh food - salads, sandwiches, meals, and stews. Friends had salads and they were definitely satisfied. Large salads with a great variety. The tomato soup is lovely. The beef stew was good. The chicken plate was also good and plenty of sides to choose from. The chicken is a little cold so don’t expect a hot, hot plate. There’s plenty of dessert choices! Parking is on the street or in the garage and they validate so get it for free. The staff is friendly and helpful! The place is warm and they have a fireplace outside to sit around. Good place if you want to eat and run - or if you want to just sit and chat with friends.

Tasty Selections

By MrsGees |

There were seven in our party of which three had already eaten there. The selections are great, cafeteria style. The staff serves the food, which I prefer. Salads, sandwiches, plate dinner with two sides, soups and plenty of desserts. They have these great mixed fruity lemonade drinks. The only problem with all those choices is that the line moves pretty slow. Will definitely go back.

Delicious comfort food with a great variety to choose from

By divisiblebyzero |

We enjoy dining at Urban Plates because they offer great meals - not just great food, great meals. Food is served cafeteria style reminiscent of the buffet restaurants popular in my home state of Indiana and it's every bit as good and delicious as them, too. We enjoy their food and love their selections so much that we ordered turkey dinners for takeout from them on Thanksgiving - fast, easy, and delicious. Great place, great atmosphere.

Amazing Food!!

Food was amazing! Restaurant was very nice and clean! Staff was friendly and the chef answered all my questions! And met all my dietary restrictions!! My family and I will definitely be back!

Healthy eating for the most part.

By ExpoNationals |

Urban Plates is one of my favorite chain restaurants. Their setup reminds me of a cafeteria. First time visitors tend to get confused. Basically you grab a tray, then go to the area where you want to order food. I tend to go straight to the sandwich area. I walk past the popular salad station and place my order with the sandwich guy. Then I wait there while my sandwich is quickly prepared. Lastly, I head to the register with my tray of food in hand. All the Urban Plate locations have the same kind of setup and ambiance which I like. The food has consistently been the same. They are a bit more expensive, but that is because the majority of food they serve is on the healthy side. They have many organic food options such as Free Range Chicken, Grass Fed Beef, Even their fish is Wild Caught. Of course, being the sweettooth I am, I have to eat dessert. Happily, they make one of the best cakes I've ever eaten. I highly recommend trying a slice of their Hummingbird Cake. You can thank me later!!

great for a quick eat

Got take out because we had somewhere to be. Practically no one in line. I got the desert BBQ chicken which was very good. The whole trip took less than 10 minutes.

My sister-in-law moved to this area in February this year. I've had the pleasure of visiting her new home three times this year. The first time we ate here I was so exhausted that I wasn't sure I was away from Cleveland ! our next two visits were fabulous. The food was fresh and appetizing . The dining room was pristine and laid back. Thank you for a great place to enjoy a delicious casual meal.

Great food and amazing service

Had lunch with the family and the manager Oscar and the rest of the workers were super helpful and nice to all clients.

Nice spot for a quick bite

Nice spot for a quick bite in a nice area. If you are looking for a healthy option, this is a place for you, although the cookie I had was delicious! Ample seating to bring a group.

Great value on tasty food

By TwoWheelExplorer |

Located in the Playa Vista complex, Urban Plates is a great lunch or dinner spot. With lots of tasty salads, soups, plates, bowls, and sandwiches, there is something on the menu sure to please anyone. I particularly appreciated the $10 meal deals, which provide a lot of food for not much money. Today I had the Grilled Portobello Mushroom Sandwich which comes on a panini roll with pesto goat cheese and a mixture of roasted vegetables. It also comes with a side of potato chips. It was delicious and quite filling. Can't wait to dine here again and try more of the extensive menu.

21st Century Cafeteria, Certainly Not Grandma's Horn & Hardhardt's

By WestSideKid |

Brand new cafeteria-restaurant in the new section of Playa Vista, which is growling very fast since Google has moved in; they now call it "Silicon Beach." In the 1950's when I was a boy, my grandmother sometimes took me to the Horn & Hardhardt's cafeteria on 105th Street and Broadway, which was fine, but Urban Plates is light years beyond that. Excellent, well prepared food, with a good variety of dishes using natural ingredients. Salads custom made. Nice wine and beer list, with two tiers of wine to request. Nice atmosphere very convenient for casual dining; take out also available. Separate kids menu that is fine. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Great Food

By Manny D |

We ordered Chicken, Steak and Salmon all dishes were great and well prepared. We even tried the housemade drinks and the lemonade was very refreshing.

Not great

Lunch with my wife and son. Had three different choices. All were bland and tasteless. I do not recommend this restaurant.

Okay but not great - cafeteria-style eatery

By Mike C |

On a recent visit to LA, friends had us meet them here for dinner. Urban Plate’s “motto” is “real food, made from scratch, at an affordable price.” That might all be true, but I am not a fan of cafeteria-style eateries such as these where you have to grab a tray, wait in line, slide your tray along the railing, wait to order at the counter, and then wait to pay at the register. The crowd here is decidedly on the younger side and perhaps they are more accustomed to, and less put off by, this sort of arrangement - it being similar to dining in a school lunchroom. My hope was that the quality of the food might compensate for the fact that this is basically a cafeteria, but I was disappointed on that count as well. The food was just “okay”: not bad - not great -decent (hence the three stars) but certainly nothing to write home about. Prices were reasonable by LA standards but by no means “cheap” for what you get. Maybe if I had known in advance the sort of place (cafeteria) and the caliber of cuisine (term used lightly), I wouldn’t have been quite so put off by my visit here. If you’re fresh out of college, on a budget and not looking for a culinary experience - this might be a place for you to try once to see if it’s for you. With a half dozen locations in the LA area, there must be a market for this sort of place - it just isn’t for me. Not my idea of a nice evening out to dinner.

Quick and Easy Organic Food

By Sally B |

This place is right by the movie theater in playa vista. It is cafeteria style and the food is organic and delicious. I usually get the steak plate with roasted rosemary potatoes and roasted carrots & beets. Excellent prices!

Good for the price

By Jerry P |

The place just opened. Kind of cafeteria service but with pretty good food - really good for the price. Perfect place after the movies or even before. No bar but wine and beer available.

Cute place, poor food, won’t go back

By LADarya |

The place is cute, outdoor fireplace. Food not good. Bland, microwaved food, soup not hot. Would not go back. 75 bucks for lunch for three. Even the Diet Coke was off.

Friendly service good food!

The cashiers and entire staff are always friendly! I dine at their multiple locations and I always get very good service and tasty food!!!! Thank you

Unique and Good

By ArtBrodsky |

Being from the East Coast,we hadn't seen Urban Plates before. We went to a newly opened branch in the Playa Vista shopping area in Los Angeles. We were impressed with the selection, the prices and the quality of the food and the flow of people through the restaurant. The only drawback is that the post-industrial-like design with metal ceiling makes the place very loud. Other than that, we'll go back next time we visit, and hope they come East at somepoint.

Something for everyone!

By Maureen L |

Urban Plates is the perfect spot if you are with a group (large or small) that are indecisive about what they want for lunch/dinner. It's situated in Playa Vista- so note that it gets really busy at noon when all the surrounding businesses are at lunch. And the parking garages is nuts (Urban Plates does validate). Selections include some amazing salads, sandwiches, soups, stews desserts and plates. You go through a commissary type line- and choose what you want as your main dish. I've enjoyed the Chicken Cobb Salad, Grilled Steak Salad, oven baked Salmon, Tomato soup and Turkey Meatloaf. All the food is fresh and portions are really generous. Lots of salads to choose from - and you can customize to your liking. If you get a main dish plate, you get to choose 2 sides- options included rosemary potatoes, mac & cheese, roasted Brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. There are also cold sides including a beet salad and fruit salad. All sides come with a huge piece of grilled bread. Like I mentioned... portions are huge so come hungry. While I've loved everything I have ever ordered, I regret getting the turkey meatloaf - it wasn't very good. Dry with chunks of carrot in it. I think meatloaf is probably one of those dishes you should just have your mom cook and never order out because you only like your moms. Desserts include several cakes and chocolate chip cookies. All look pretty scrumptious but I have never ordered anything. There is wine & beer available as well as organic soda for beverages. Urban Plates also has a kids menu and the space is open and bright. There is outdoor seating with fireplaces but you are sitting next to the garage so traffic is going in & out. Prices are reasonable- 2 people can eat well for $30.

Great organic food!

By Dunnmeister |

Went to Urban Plates on a Monday evening. The restaurant is clean and user friendly. You go through a line where the food is plated in front of you. Reminded me of going through a cafeteria but better! The food choices are organic and healthy. My husband and I both ordered the Grilled Free Range Chicken, roasted rosemary potatoes and rainbow carrots& golden beets. All of the food was delicious!!!! Beer and wine were available but we each chose a glass each of "replenishers" which were okay. We sat outside at a table that contained a fire pit. This was a great as it was a little cool outside. The cost of our meal and drinks was approximately $40. Overall we had a great time and would highly recommend it to others!

Great New place in Playa Vista

By OCDane |

Great new "healthy" restaurant in the new area in Playa Vista. The restaurant is really nice, lot of space and easy to select what you like to eat at the counter. Main dishes are Salmon, Steak, Chicken with two sites (potato, brusselsprout, cauliflower and mushrooms). beside this tehre are multiple other dishes like salad and soups. Nice juices as well.

Friday Night, Date Night!

By 305sheilan |

My husband and I were on our date night and wanted to have dinner before we went to the movies. We had dinner at this new restaurant in Playa Vista. It was really good! The food was fresh, I had the salmon w/red potatoes, grilled brussel sprouts, and a nice glass of Malbec. He had the meatloaf w/mashed potatoes and gravy, and broccolini, and a ginger ale. The food was very fresh, the ambience nice and romantic (we sat outside, near the heaters). Try it, you will like it!

Phenomenal lunch spot

Visited Urban Plates with my girlfriend after it was recommended by friends. Food was amazing, portions huge, and staff super friendly.

Good portions

By Gustavo R |

I ordered steak and two sides. the portions were big and I felt it was fair for the price paid for the meal.

Healthy food at reasonable prices

By packedandready2go |

The healthy food is ordered buffet style. Each main plate comes with two side orders (you get to choose) which were quite tasty. The staff is very friendly. The prices are very reasonable for what you get.

Love this place

Awesome restaurant with great choices and really good food. Mix and match your meals, try some samples and bring an appetite

Urban Anger!

By Calgrove |

I took my family to dinner tonight at “Urban Plates” and was shocked by the staff and management incompetence. I did not feel comfortable and feared for the safety of my family. Here is what happened... I was not familiar with the ordering process for sandwiches and salads (my wife wanted a salad and the rest of us wanted a sandwich). A very nice young woman was patient and let my family go in front of her and explained the process (as a side note, there are no signs or staff explaining what the process is). Unfortunately, this Good Samaritan was faced with an extremely rude woman who took her aggressive bad attitude out on her. Apparently her life was more important than anyone else in line. She screamed at the young lady telling her that she needed to order her salad. The staff making sandwiches/salads honored her behavior. The staff actually joked with the rude woman and ridiculed the young lady - who was in tears - while she proceeded to make a salad for the aggressive, rude woman. The staff then ignored the young lady for several minutes - making items for several others cutting in front of her, forcing her to go to another staff to get a sandwich made. I know - my family also waited. The rude woman aggressively pounded her wallet on the counter to intimidate the young lady and others. I made my family stand back - in fear of a confrontation with the screaming rude woman. This was tolerated by the staff - and actually encouraged by their behavior. When I brought this to the attention of the cashier - asking for a manager, I was completely brushed off. Either no manager was available, or this horrible attitude is tolerated by management. I find it incredibly frustrating that a business encourages this behavior. Clearly, there were other issues at play (e.g. - the rude woman was friends with the staff), for which I did not understand - although I was shocked by the attitude of the staff/management. If there is an expectation that all NEW patrons understand the ordering process, there should be helpful staff explaining the process or, at a minimum, some visual aids. Having a helpful person get treated so rudely, makes me lose faith in humanity. I will never, ever go back to “Urban Plates” - life is too short to face the negativity which is encouraged by the staff. Not what I wanted my family to experience on Valentines Day.

Cozy and informal

By Kay O |

Organic green tea and meatloaf with harissa cauliflower/zucchini, miso mushroom and sweet potato saute in a casual setting or outside with heat lamps. Choose your selections, they're prepared, then brought to your table. In the popular "Silicon Beach" area of Playa Vista.

Quick bite good food

By Jim N |

This is upscale cafeteria. Stand in line and choose from fresh, gourmet selections. Food is not standing around for long and constantly cooked. Very nice.

Good variety, flavor, reasonable

By Katy S |

This place just opened in Playa Vista and becoming a new go-to. Seems to be a hybrid of Lemonade and Tender Greens (if you're familiar), where you choose your main and how you want it (e.g. Chicken/steak/ahí Tuna/salmon/turkey meatloaf in a sandwich, salad, wrap, or plate and your 2 sides ($11!!) Sides have both hot and cold options and soup can count as one. The soups are delicious! All ingredients listed. Samples allowed! They also have pizzas or flatbreads, which I have not tried yet. Amazing dessert case with all kinds of options. They serve beer, wine, lemonade, kombucha to name a few. Clean, nice location, many tasty options, reasonable price, validates parking for 90 mins, $1 per hour hereafter.

Looking for someplace different to eat besides the big chain places. Daughter has eaten here. Fish, chicken, steak & veggies available as plates or ala carte. Average about $11-14 per plate. Fresh tasting. also small beer & wine selection too. Recommend!

Mauro and staff were awesome!

By Monica C |

I recently visited this location in Playa Vista and the staff were great! I invited a friend out to have dinner with me. She decided to switch out her meal twice and without hesitation, they accommodated her and were very patient! Mauro our server brought us 2 complimentary cookies before we left. Anytime I have visited this location, they were awesome and the food was very good. =)

On the beet

By Swedishtomcat |

TIA (thanks in advance) to Tia for recommending this place. Started with a clam chowder, which was so-so. The main event was a hand-tossed salad comprising chimichurri steak on their mixed beet & goat’s cheese salad with a side of asparagus. Nothing flash but very good and healthy.

Nice healthy fresh food.

We stopped with a group of friends after a movie for a late lunch. It took a while to figure out the system and they just let us wander around until we figured it out. It is cafateria style so you go up, get a tray and go to the different stations and order what you want then go on to the cashear to pay then find a table to eat at. Quite confusing the first time. I still do not know what about half of the stations were or what you could order. It all looked good and freshly made. I stopped at the first station which had a nice selection of salads. They hand make each salad to order. I ordered a Chinese Chicken Salad, the chicken brest was tasty, the dressing and noodles were good and the salad was fresh but not shreaded to bite size so be sure you get a knife at the cashear. I have had better but it was a good salad overall, at $13.50 it is on the high side for a quarter chicken brest and some greens. My wife went to the sanwitch station and ordered a chicken club sanwitch that came with bacon. It was very good and was $11.50, she could only eat half so that was a good value as she had the other half the next day. The guy makink the sanwitches seamed like he did not wont to be there and his attitude showed but he did a good job putting it together. A glass of beer was $6.25, pudding $3.50 and a cookie $2.75. So this is not a cheap place to eat, our lunch came to $41.00 But it had a lot of healthy selections to choose from. Out of our group of eight half had some sort of salad and the other half had a sanwitch. Every one was happy which is hard to do. We were there at about 3:00 on a monday so the resturant was almost empty and there was not anyone in line which was good so we could figure how the system of getting our food without interupting the line, otherwise we may have had to move on to another resturant. If I am in the area again I will most likely try one of the other eating places that are all around there as this was not that memorable of a meal.

Quick and delicious

By GiantsFanLosAngeles |

Dropped by around 7pm on a Tuesday after a movie. Only one couple in front of us. Cafeteria style, you ask the staff to prepare your plate while waiting in line. Had the steak and turkey meatloaf. Food tasted fresh. Veggie sides were good, too. Also got a pudding dessert. Price was moderate. I like this location better than some other Urban Plates.

Value Food

I like to eat at this spot, one of my new favorites is the fried spicy chicken sandwich... Sooo GOOD!

Casually good food in casual atmosphere.

By SuperACamille |

Fun, tasty food with a great staff and relaxing atmosphere. Great for dine in or takeout and very family friendly something for everyone. Special shout out to Geo !

Cafetiere style

By pauljalessi |

Urban Plates is a cafetiere style place that has a much nicer feel and vibe. It has a good ambiance with outdoor seating and a fire pit with a trendy decor. The staff are friendly and the food is pretty good for the price. Good size portions for the sides, but the Steak, Chicken and Fish portions are a but skimpy.

$10.00 promo

By 747goodlife |

My husband and I went for early dinner to avail of their $10 promo (sent us their flyer with photos of food) for a limited time. I took the flyer with me and ordered the Grilled Cage free chicken wt roasted tomato Pesto. I even showed the person preparing the dish the photo of the dish. When we got the bill,we were charged extra for the broccolini ($1.50) and the roasted carrots and beets ($1.50) thats supposed to be part of the dish. The chicken taste good, even the white beans and collards side. $10 is supposed to be the price, their cashier should get on with the program. I’ve always thought their prices were a bit high for such small portions, but thats because their food taste fresh and good,i give them that.

Healthy Food

By Felipe G |

I ordered a salad and it was huge but most importantly it was at a great price for the healthy meal.

Good food, nice atmosphere

By MelvinPusfinger |

This restaurant is beside the Cinemark Cinema in Playa Vista. We shared a portobello sandwich and that was very tasty. There also some good options for kids, including chicken tenders and fries. The portions are good. The service was good and efficient. We also liked the atmosphere. It is a good dining option if you are going to the movies here.

Very good customer service

By Manny D |

It was a little confusing at the start because we didn't know where to order but the Manager helped us and made sure our visit was a great one.

Great Value, Great Good

By Clark121777 |

My family and I love coming in to eat at this location. Food is always on point and service is very consistent

Healthy food for everyone!

By Jeane141 |

Everyone will be able to find something on this menu. I had a great Portobello mushroom sandwich. It was so delicious that I will order it again which came with a handful of chips. I also tasted some sweet potato soup which was also delicious. Vegetarian, vegan or meat eating diets will find something on this menu. Plenty of seating inside and also some seating outside. Validated parking for 90 minutes is also available. Located in the newly built Playa Vista community, movie theatre, Whole Foods, CVS, and a number of eating establishments can be found here.

Great Food and Service

By Jeff W |

During a recent visit to Playa Vista, my family enjoyed a very nice lunch at Urban Plates. I had the Braised Moroccan Chicken, which was perfectly prepared. The chicken was tender and the flavor was excellent. The other family members had the Oven Baked Salmon and a House Salad. Both of these items were excellent as well. This is a self serve restaurant, however, the service was excellent. Each of the employees at the different food stations were very helpful and pleasant. The cashier, Ledis, saw that my daughter had her baby and came around to carry her food to the table. The managers checked on us and were very professional. A very nice experience.

Tastes Great...Very Filling

By hoosier63 |

We came to visit my son in Los Angeles. He suggested we eat at Urban Plates. I’ve never been here before. The chef was very accommodating he let me try several types of food to see if I liked it. I settled on the chicken club sandwich with chips. I got a bowl of lentil soup which was also fabulous. I thought the sandwich was great, very big alot of meat on it. We got the strawberry cake for dessert which was really good and moist. I would definitely come back here. I would classify it as somewhere between fast food and fine dining. Not quite fine dining but… The taste was very good. Don’t be put off by the cafeteria style choose your item... the food itself was very good. I would come back here.

Loud and fast

By Allan P |

Had lunch here at 1:00 pm with an Asian chicken salad, seafood soup, chicken sandwich and tomato soup. The chicken was the same barely warm white and dark chunks on both dishes and not very appetizing. Seafood soup was good and tomato soup was like tomato sauce. Bread was good and salad OK. Very loud and not pleasant for dining. Fast cafeteria style ordering added to the frenetic atmosphere.

Very Unusual, but Very Fresh & Tasty

By David Miller |

My family visited the Urban Plates restaurant in Playa Vista Ca., last week and had a nice lunch experience. When you walk into the Urban Plates your eyes are wondering all over the place, because this is not a normal restaurant setup. Urban Plates is a good place if looking for some simple lunch/ dinner options. It follows a cafeteria concept where you line up with a tray in different stations. They have sandwiches, salads, hot plates, sides, and specialty items. They have a good variety of protein options for salads and hot plates, and good amount of hot/cold sides. We had the BBQ beef Chipotle BBQ braised beef & coleslaw on grilled brioche bun, which was very tasty. I also had a side of their macaroni & cheese which was delicious. They also have healthy drink options which include organic lemonade, sweetened with organic sugar, organic ginseng mint green tea, sweetened with local raw honey. They also have craft Beers and wine. A very different place to enjoy some different variety dishes.

Nice addition to this community

By sworrels |

Urban Plates offers healthy and tasty food choices. There are several salad choices and you can "customize" them. They also have other meats, fish, veggies, soups, desserts and "fancy" lemonades and drinks. They serve wine (yeah!). Nice clean restaurant with outdoor seating. The staff were super nice and helpful. I sampled a few soups before I decided on my choice. The same with the drinks. Prices are reasonable. Its a "go to" place when I'm in the mood for light, healthy lunch or dinner.

Fresh fast casual

By elainetravels |

It was chilly so soup was the number one thing I wanted, and I was hopeful when I saw their tomato soup had a drizzle of pesto. It was more of a tomato sauce than soup, with the overpowering flavor of fresh basil. I would either add some heat to this from their condiment bar, or get it as a side cup accompaniment next time. Their grass fed steak salad was excellent, from the medium rare steak, to the crunchy roasted cashews, contrasting with the fresh flavors of jicama and mint with mango pineapple salsa in a jalapeno lime dressing for $14.50 this was a hearty salad, but for an even heartier meal, you can add another side of protein. Because it had been awhile since I had eaten mashed potatoes and it was a chilly day, the comfort of a side of mashed organic potatoes with gravy was a welcome side dish. Having had a good experience dining in, I was happy to find their salads also traveled well ordering from one of the delivery services. The wild line caught ahi salad niçoise had fantastic tuna, green beans, organic egg, organic tomatoes, potatoes, green beans, marinated olives, and a mustard champagne vinaigrette. All the ingredients were fresh, and the dressing was ok, but I found the individual components bland and lacking any seasoning or flavor on their own. The dressing helped perk it up a bit, but I ended up eating this with salt and pepper instead of the dressing. The delivery BBQ chicken salad for $13.50 included grilled cage-free chicken, corn, black beans, grilled onions, avocado, organic cheese blend, crispy wonton strips, red bell pepper, with a chipotle lime dressing. The BBQ sauce was a bit too sweet, and like the tune niçoise, the individual ingredient were fresh but boring on their own. The Moroccan chicken braise for $10.50 was a warm comforting hearty bowl of free range chicken, slow cooked with squash, onions, preserved lemons, olives, turmeric, paprika, cumin, ginger, cinnamon, parsley and cilantro. This is also offered as a side, and one of my favorite meals at Urban Plates. The Asian chicken salad for $13.50 was a wonderful medley of grilled cage free chicken, organic carrots, green onions, oranges, spicy roasted peanuts, red bell peppers, wonton strips, in a spicy peanut dressing. I found the dressing much too thick, sweet and cloying, but used sparsely it was fine. Overall, the ingredients were wonderful, but if you are looking for a fresh light salad, have the dressing on the side or choose another dressing. I prefer to eat at the location, especially with their very professional personable staff, but getting a delivery on a chilly or rainy day from a solid option for fresh ingredients can be priceless.

Quickie Good - Urban Plates

By DAVID L |

We often eat at Urban Plates before going to the Cineplex & the Plates has nice food choices in an upscale open kitchen atmosphere. The arrangement is cafeteria style, but the food choices are nice interesting mostly health conscious ones. Quickie Good food - at Urban Plates. Enjoy!

Not So Great

By D_W_10017 |

Urban Plates in Playa Vista has a nice atmosphere with a semi-buffet style setup, but the food wasn’t that great on our visit. The caesar salad was average and the caprese sandwich was not enjoyable.

My favorite place

By Eva |

The food couldn't be any better! It's organic and delicious. The quality of the meat and fishes is just beyond normal. I recommend any plate there! The staff is nice and helpful and the design is lovely too.

Good Concept, Nice Desirn

By John W |

This is a Chipoltle type place where you order at the counter to get what you want then pay at the cashier. Lots of tables and bar stools. Even has outside seating with a fire pit for warmth. I had a Chicken Caesar Salad which was huge and very fresh. Nice place, friendly service!

All around nice place

Beet salad isn't for everyone, which is a pity, especially when it's this good. The food is excellent at this fast casual chain. We were fortunate to arrive before the lunch crowd, so had fast service and quiet time. Besides the salad I had a nice -- not exceptional -- chicken soup and lemonade. Surroundings are extremely attractive. Short review with short advice: go. You won't regret it.

Healthy and fantastic flavored carry out lunch

By Sarah | makesmewander.com |

I have eaten at urban plates twice now, but never actually been in the restaurant. Both times my coworker has gone to pick up lunch from their restaurant. It’s super convenient because I could just order and pay for mine separately and she just picks it up. Having said that, my goal is to try to get in and eat at the restaurant sometime soon so I can smell the smells and see everything in full living color. So this time I went for the salmon salad and I had fennel and lots of other goodness in the salad I don’t even remember everything that was there but it just all went together beautifully and melted into these amazing flavors. I remember loving the croutons as well. Although it was a pick up order, I had them pre-mix the salad with the dressing because I knew that they would be able to do it way better than I would. I also had to try the brussels sprouts and bacon on the side because who doesn’t Love bacon and I am a unicorn, I love brussels sprouts. In my book, they are two for two with winning flavors and I highly recommend them and will definitely return soon. I really like the fact that you can get amazingly flavored food and know that it’s healthy as well. #makesmewander

Disappointed

Met friends who live in Playa a Vista. Made the huge mistake of ordering a chicken sandwich but who knew. Basically think about a small drumstick and use 1/4 of the chicken off of it and that's about the amount of chicken you get. It was a joke; a bread sandwich for $11.00. I saw a steak sandwich being made that had the same tiny amount of meat. Had it not been for my friends, I would have shown the management. Come on, put some protein in between the bread. It took me 3 min to eat the thing. The other drawback is that the place is quite loud and with 4 people and we had a hard time hearing each other.

Health Food with Many Optional Sides

Sure enjoyed the format of the restaurant with ordering mains and then the options of a breadth of sides so efficiently at the counter.. The food was delivered to your table fairly soon afterwards. Lots of healthy food options too. The mango pie was excellent. It was not too hard to find parking on the street close to the restaurant. In my two visits I had some of the fruit flavored drinks, and they were quite good. How nice to see first responders around the restaurant.

Absolutely love the sandwiches

I lived next door to this place for over a year and would end up stopping by at least once a week. Peak times there can be a line out the door for with good reason. Staff are friendly and quality is consistent.
