Napoli Style Wet Pizza

By Jim J |

This was our first time here. The staff is very accomodating and excellent customer service. This is a Napoli style pizza restaurant. They have 2 wood fired Italian Pizza Ovens. The temp is 850 degrees and they can cook a pizza in 1 to 1 1/2 minutes. The Napoli style pizza is wet (the crust is soft/mushy). Most eat with knife and fork vs. being able to fold and eat accordingly. After receiving our order and found the crust to be wet, we asked if they could cook our pizza more. They insisted on making a new pizza and cooking a little longer. Since the ovens are so hot, there is a fine line between done vs. charred/burned...seconds actually. Due to the authentic Napoli style, the variety of toppings are limited. They offer wine by the glass or bottle. Again, the staff and management are very friendly, accomodating, and customer service oriented.

Excellent pizza in a nice location

By Ichdien000 |

Enjoyed a really nice fresh pizza at this very popular place - They obviously make all their pasta and pizza fresh on the premises and the place has a really nice and relaxed atmosphere. The service is attentive and they obviously have a passion in what they do. would definitely recommend and return

Amazing place! Great service! VERY kid friendly!

By galina10 |

This was our first time - we stopped by after a visit to Botanical Gardens. Pizza is so good! Eggplant parm is absolutely the best I have ever had! Cannolis are amazing! Service and atmosphere is by far the best. Kids were loving it - watching how they make dough, pizza, etc. The pizza maker taught them how to say the names of toppings in Italian! They got to play with a piece of dough as well. Don't miss the koi pond in the back - and if possible ask for fish food to feed them! Such a great place! Marco - the manager - was making sure everything was superb! Attention to detail is fantastic. Will definitely be back!!!

Meno male (not too bad)

By Michael M |

In a busy part of Atlanta, the interior of the space has a nice modern industrial look. Lunch on a Saturday was amazingly quiet, so the (shared) pizza was delivered almost instantly. The basic Margherita pizza add sausage was decent: nice char, but bigger than VPN and cut. The dough was also under-salted, but had the proper chewiness. The bottle of 2014 Montepulciano D'Abruzzo was decently priced, a decent pizza wine (but VERY young). The bottle of wine plus the one shared sausage pizza was just under $50, so reasonably priced.

Good addition to neighborhood!

By James A |

We visited for first time last weekend. Great service and food was very tasty. The seating and décor were good and the parking was very ample. I heard the comparison to the overly popular Antico on the westside. My experience at Varuni was much better. Antico was way to busy - very difficult to get service and parking was very limited. We will return!

This Pizza is Amazing!

By Miles S |

This place is great, and I would return. The pizza was super good, and came out quickly. Once you order at the counter, they will bring the food out to your table. There is great outdoor seating as well.

Attitude is getting worse every visit

By I. M |

We always liked the pizza and we like to support our neighborhood and its businesses. Unfortunately, the terrible attitude has gotten out of hand. Today, after ordering and putting in a 20% tip, I was rewarded with nasty attitude and absolutely zero service besides bringing the pizza to our table. No plates, no water, no glasses, no silverware. Nothing. After several bad experiences, we have decided to stop sponsoring this establishment. Unfortunate.

The best pizza in Atlanta

By Diego |

Pizza really good; and in addition to the pizza itself, the choice of ingredients is also of excellent quality. At the moment I haven't tried a better pizza in town

So yummy

By Natasha B |

I love pizza and I stumbled upon this place while we were visiting Krog Street Market. I saw several people walking around with the pizza and it looked so good. I ended up getting the fried calzone. My absolute favorite calzone and my husband liked it too. All of the ingredients just tasted so fresh. My favorite pizza sauce of all time as well. When we got home we looked it up and realized they have a larger location in Midtown. We will definitely be visiting there soon!

They Do It Right

By rayboy |

I forced 3 friends to come along to help me with my addiction for Neapolitan pizza and they were all glad they did. Two of them had never had this style pizza and boy did this place set the bar high for future pizza places. The pizzas were on the larger size and ingredients were top notch. We shared 3 pizzas but I could've eat one myself they were so darn good. Order pizza and drinks at the counter and go sit anywhere, they will bring things out to you very quickly. Place is nice with cool nooks and even an outside patio as a option to the main tables. Prices were typical for this style pizza an alcohol available. The only thing wrong is I no longer live in Atlanta.

Fantastic pizza trumps atmosphere and service

By CraftBeers |

I fell in love with the Bastardo pizza. The crust was wonderful. The pork ragu sauce with slight spicy heat is fantastic. The pepperoni and pecorino cheese just sends this awesome pizza over the top. The atmosphere and service are kind of lacking. I'd give it three stars. They do have a cool walk up window to order a pizza from the street and take it with you. They also have a nice outdoor patio in the back. The employees seem to just be going through the motions. They let the greatness of the pizza speak for itself rather than try to make the experience great.

Quick Excellent Pizza

By L G |

Had pizza at Varuni Napoli and was amazed how quickly (about 3 minutes) the pizza arrived after ordering. Very thin crust and excellent ingredients. They also serve calzones. If you are eating there on Fridays late you may be able to enjoy fresh pasta on the house!

Best pizza in Atlanta

By David R |

Varuni Napoli wins for quality pies that are consistently delicious. High-heat ovens and grade-A ingredients create customers rave every time they visit.

Like Neapolitan pizza?? Just go here!

By Kevin H |

I haven’t posted in a year but I felt I had to. Amazing Neapolitan pizza, great friendly service and great atmosphere. I loved it.

Pizza at its finest!

Great pizza, fresh ingredients. Loved the simple ambiance! Who needs to go to Italy:) We will be back very soon!

Still the best pizza in Atlanta

By Bill R |

Just got back from Italy last week and I have to say that Varuni Napoli's pizza is as good as any we had while there and much better than the pie we had in Rome. We decided to try their very spicy pie and it was great. Very hot but just right for us. Love the crust and their sauce is great. Every time we go we want to go back again & again. I've seen some reviewers complain about the prices but you don't get their quality of ingredients cheaply.

Atlanta's Italian Debutant

By jovoyvanair |

Following in the footsteps of Antico, Varuni-Napoli has launched an impressive, bright and open space brimming with feelgood Italian bonhomie. Sure - a case of a proven concept now taken to Morningside in a larger, modern, comfortable and design-driven experience. The room and open-ness is great as are the choices between coffee bar, counter, communial, or table for 4 seating. Interest is created with more smaller rooms deeper into the restuarnt and an out door patio connected to the Beltway - which increasingly is becomming a home run for Atlantan neigborhoods and her active citizenry. Opening night was busy - our party was really impressed by how fast the authentic pizzas came to our table. As only Italian's can do - Varuni Napoli marries smart with casual. Sure to be a big hit.

Proper pizza

By Iannellin |

Noisy but definitely very hip. The pizzas are as genuine as you could hope to find outside Italy, made with flair and speed. There is also a good but limited choice of Italian wines that are not run of the mill. However the limitations of choice are an indication of a discerning managerial eye that does not see quality in numbers but rather in careful selection. The inside room is unfortunately very noisy with sound bouncing off all those hard surfaces but, in some ways, it's all part of the atmosphere and the outside tables are quiet and rather romantic. Overall, the place has great design, great pizza and very good wines. I found it a bit pricey but can see that most will find it value for money.

Best Pizza this side of Italy

By vickie720 |

This is the ONLY pizza place that we want to go to in ATL. Our friends from out of town want to go there each time they come into town.. We are so happy to have real pizza, brick oven and yummy so close to home. The owner makes you feel like family I would suggest you get the salad first and then order the pizza. The pizza only takes a minute or so at such a high temperature. It allows for a wonderful evening out. The drinks are great as well.

Delicious pizza

By OnAir743349 |

We had a family reunion dinner here, and the staff was very nice, the atmosphere very pleasant and the food was delicious.

ATL Pizzeria Tour

By Pcostick |

This was the second stop of our tour. For us, it was the best. Beautiful pizza made with sourdough starter (not many doing that), great service and a lovely ambience in the restaurant. Staff who care about their product and it reflects in all aspects of this Pizzeria. Will definitely return soon.

Like a Trip To Italy

By Bill R |

I follow Varuni on Facebook and this week the special pizza was a calzone. We ordered one along with a Varuni salad and a 1/2 price bottle of Pinot Grigio (Wednesday special). We love the house salad with candied pecans and the prosciutto tossed with just a little dressing. The calzone was fabulous! They described it in their post and it sounded great but the actual calzone was even better! I wish I was young with my old metabolism so I could eat at Varuni every night. They also have an excellent staff.

Great pizza in a casual, fun atmosphere

By sbgum |

The pizza is really delicious; and that comes from someone who really doesn't love all pizza. The salads were excellent, also; there were several other menus items that I would like to try another time. The atmosphere was fun and casual. It was open until 10:00 on a Thursday night, which is an additional plus!

Authentic Neapolitan Pizza

By snpfister |

Having been to Naples many times, I can say this was one of the more authentic Neapolitan pizza restaurants we have eaten at. The dough was very authentic and resembled Naples quality. The restaurant is a bit pricey, but reasonable considering the fact that all the ingredients are imported (according to their website). Varuni has a unique ordering style. You order your drink at the counter then proceed to the register and order your food and pay, you are given a number and seat yourself. The food is then brought to your table. Overall, this was a very good restaurant and we would most certainly return. We visited on August 3rd 2014.

Possibly the Best Pizza in Atlanta

By chefluee |

Have dined here about six times since they opened and have had wonderful experiences each and every time. The pizza is wonderful and we have tried quite a few. This weekend we ordered the margherita with pepperoni and mushrooms. It was perfect in every way. I think their crust is the best because it has more taste than most in Atlanta and the ingredients are so fresh. The salad with it looked and tasted like heirloom tomatoes and prosciutto was outstanding. Every morsel of all dishes were gone in moments. The staff at Varuni are great and attentive. Can't wait to return.

First visit

By K R |

We had the Maradona pizza. Peppers were sweet and a little tangy. Crust and Italian sausage perfect. Thin enough for two of us to finish. Best pizza in town. Rather than order at the counter, we went for full service at the bar. Excellent service.

With an Italian wife, the pizza had better be good!

By weparkerjr |

A very pleasant small neighborhood restaurant near Ansley Park, Varuni Napoli is the real thing. The pizza is authentic Neopolitan and truly excellent. Good, inexpensive wine and beer choices, family style tables or bar seating, a very nice outside patio and a private room available for events, and overall nice modern decor make this our first choice. But, a pizza place is all about the pizza, right? Well, this place knows how to make great pizza!

Great food. Noise level unacceptable.

By Jim B |

great food. great service. nice staff. unbearably loud music. why go to a restaurant where you literally have to scream across the table to be heard ? this is insane. what’s wrong with soft italian violin music ?? i will be back but only for delivery! i’ll never eat in there again. !

Go ahead close ur DOORS

By Angela P |

ya ll used to be so good , our 30.00 pizza sucked tonight and before COVID ya ll were great but now, noooo Overpriced and our pizza was disgustingly RAW and nasty spoiled looking pepperoni which is probably cheap turkey cuts ick.. we ll be lucky if we dont get sick, GOOD BYE VARUNI

Great experience all around.

By Charles W |

Our party of three came for dinner on a Tues. night in mid-December 'round 6:30. First ever visit. Restaurant sits at the edge of a shopping center, so there was ample parking around back as businesses adjoining the restaurant closed at 5ish. Exterior was well-lit and safe, though the place fronts a busy road. Great first visual impression upon walking in. Very open layout, nice decor & lights, lots of wine bottles and big bay windows up front and a delicious wood-baked pizza smell. Probably 8 or 9 eight-ten top tables in their front dining room. You'll likely end up sitting at a table with another party you won't know, but it's all good--tables were plenty big enough to leave some space. The place was about 80% filled to capacity, though many seats along a nice bar were open. (The bar actually fronts the pizza assembly area. So, as you sit there, you look through glass at the cooks making your pies, tossing the dough, etc.--pretty neat.) There was no line at all, so we walked right up to the register to order. All pies are one size, I gather, and ran around $21 each. We ordered two pies, the "Bastardo" (basically pep & saus) and the "Bianca" (white cheeses). No alcoholic drinks, apps, etc. Pies came out hot & fresh only about 10 minutes later. Very, very tasty. Ingredients seemed fresh, toppings were ample. Spiced meats were especially savory. Pies were probably around 18" in diameter and we were pretty hungry after a full day of sight-seeing, so we didn't take more than a couple slices home. Service was good. There wasn't a server assigned to us; rather, several waiters roamed and tended. Don't recall them much anticipating water refills, but they'd get you squared-away quick when you requested a top off. The highlight of the evening came when the manager (I believe his name was Marco) stopped by to check in. Very pleasant fellow. I mentioned that we had tried Antico Pizza a few months back and liked it, and that while we esteemed both restaurants to have very good pizza, the atmosphere at his place appealed more to us. (BTW, he mentioned--I believe--that their head chef had been somehow affiliated with Antico at one time.) We conversed with him for several minutes and, apparently, struck a right note. He very kindly brought us a delicious little slice of tiramisu on the house. (It probably helped that I mentioned it was my 12 year old daughter's birthday and that she was particularly polite this evening.) The place had filled up and was on a bit of a wait as we left, but, even packed with families with small kids, the noise wasn't bad at all. I got the feeling that many of the patrons were neighborhood regulars as there was quite a bit of cheery conversation buzzing all around. Overall, a terrific experience. If I had to find a fault, I'd say that I regretted a bit that they didn't serve soft drinks via fountain. (Indeed, I can't even recall if they had canned Coke and what-not...) I think most of their patrons probably drank wine and so wouldn't miss some bottomless soda, but I kinda did. This, though, isn't anything of a blemish to speak of, so we'll definitely return next time we're in ATL and craving some very good pizza in a pleasant environment.

Genuine article

By SavvyTraveller04 |

My husband and have been about a dozen times and always enjoy. We prefer it to Antico because of overall experience-you do stand in line to order but you don't have to wait an inordinate time like is possible there. And Varuni's ambiance is great with fun mix of Italian classics and more standard tunes which you can enjoy with a nice glass of wine. Not inexpensive but always a treat. The pizza does get cold quickly but that's because it's so lovely and thin. Great quality ingredients. Don't skip the salad and divine tiramisu! Ample parking behind the restaurant with an entry from that side.

Jones satisfied

By Ted M |

Went there to satisfy my jones(pizza) rice balls arancini the Kroger market was packed to the gills I placed my order it was ready in 5 minutes I had Margarita pie well done almost but not exactly burnt the oven is so hot it cooks within minutes the owner I did not get his name is from Napoli Italy and when I spoke to him in my native tounge he responded with enthusiasm The arancini (rice balls) are great I love e the suse they are perfect The pizza is a very thin Itailian style that you find in Napoli What can I say it not your Dominoes or the other run of the mill cheap gas station pizza I will go back for more good thing it's far for me to go to I would be there every other night

Incredibly fresh, good tasting food

By William T |

There’s quite a buzz about this new pizza restaurant from an alumnus of Antico Pizza, regarded as Atlanta’s best. It was with much anticipation that we experienced it for ourselves. There are lots of great things to love about Varuni Napoli, but I came away with mixed feelings. First, the design is eye-catching, especially the blue tile pizza ovens inlaid with red tiles spelling out Varuni Napoli. The restaurant name and logo is also stamped on plates and glassware, a fun personal touch. And with the all glass façade on Monroe Dr., the space feels airy and inviting. Second, the flavor and taste of fresh ingredients is incredible. We ordered a Pako with fresh buffalo mozzarella, roasted smoked peppers, Italian sausage, mushrooms, onions, Pecorino Romano and basil. Is your mouth watering yet? I’ve never experienced a pizza that tasted this fresh where the ingredients shone individually and in combination with each other. The char on the crust is sublime. We also sampled the arancini and it was a stunner. The crisp on the outside was perfect and the sauce offered an explosion of fresh taste. There was also a server offering samples of a newly created pizza, a nice touch. So, what’s not to like? It struck me that more than a handful of pizzas contain spicy ingredients (spicy pork sausage, spicy ragu, hot salami). It’s hard to know how spicy that means, but if you’re not into spicy, your choices might be limited. And I get that this is thin crust Neopolitan pizza. But, when I’d pick up a piece it hung there like a wet noodle with ingredients sliding off. I quickly learned to slide it onto my plate and eat it with a knife and fork. I want my pizza crust to be firmer so I can pick it up and eat it with my hands. Prices are not cheap. Our pizza, arancini, one beer and soda totaled $35, not a cheap night out for pizza. But, it’s a fun place and worth experiencing.

It is a great place to eat.

By Travel Notes |

I went there because my Love wanted pizza, I am not a pizza lover but I picked lunch, we always compromise and meet in the middle. The place looked great, very charming, the service is excellent and the food, I loved it, I really liked their pizza, it was unforgettable. The Coca Cola comes in a glass bottle. I will definitively be back. It is a couples, family, friends, place.

Never again

By ALFRED N |

I'm not young and not hip as most of the guests are at this place. But, I do know good food, service and value and in my opinion, this outing was a disaster. As you can tell from other reviews, you get on line and get drinks and order food which is then brought to your table. Two pies, an antipasto, and rice balls. Within two minutes of being seated, one pie arrives. Room temperature, not good. The second pie arrives ten minutes later piping hot. Odd, was the first just sitting around? Ok, ok... Where is the antipasto and rice balls? The waiter said he would check.... After the pizza was eaten, the antipasto arrives. Are you kidding? $18 for a few pieces of cheese, salami and olives? No way. What a rip. the rice balls finally arrive as we are prepared to leave. I just don't get it.. The place is packed and I thought it was a total failure. Never again!

Free Pasta on Fridays at 9

By Maria G |

I have been to Varuni Napoli numerous times but never on Friday night. The pasta was delicious and free. They do not sell pasta there. The pizza is fabulous and the atmosphere Friday nights great!!!

Artisan pizzas and so much more

By sogo |

I've been several times now and have enjoyed it each and every time. Upon entering, I am always welcomed by the friendly and helpful staff including the manager Marco. There is a bar that serves cocktails as well as a limited wine and beer selection. You must wait in line to order prior to selecting a seat but I've never had to wait very long. There is indoor (sometimes warm. Heated by the ovens and constantly opening doors and A/C not able to keep up) and outdoor ( there are fans)seating. There is also ample free parking to the rear and side of the Monroe entrance. Eggplant parmesan starter is delectable. The kind of food that keeps you wanting more!! The arugula salad is light, refreshing and an ample serving for more than one person. The pizzas are very thin crust made with San Marzano tomatoes and high quality mozzarella cheese. I've yet taste the desserts or coffee but feel confident they are top notch. On Tues. evenings, they feature something called pop up pasta where the chef gives the patrons a sample of a special pasta made that day. It's quite a treat!! I'm a frequent attender which I think is the greatest compliment I can give.

Another great place for Neapolitan pizza

By Erika V |

We sat at the bar area and watched the chefs assemble our pizza and cook them in their beautifully-tiled ovens. Good service, taking fast-casual dining to a whole other level.

Great place to eat and spend the evening

By Bill R |

We love this place! The pizza is the best in the city, great crust and very tasty toppings. The salads & desserts are also 1st rate. We had the caprese salad was wonderful. The tomatoes were heirloom and the mozzarella melted in our mouths. Ordering is very fast and easy and service was prompt and helpful. It's hard to think of eating pizza anywhere else in Atlanta.

Ottima!

By Climber259598 |

Pizza- location - service are all very good. Patio is nice. Price is reasonable. Really great spot -will return to soon.

Could be so much better

By jetmech669 |

The taste is very good. Problem is the texture. Under-cooked. I will be back to try it again and request "well done" to see if it becomes crispy. 20 buck for a pizza of this size is a lot, for the price it needs to be perfect. Too mushy !

The real deal

By drlongo |

Being born and raised in Italy I guess qualifies me to judge what a good pizza should taste like. And yes, Varuni Napoli does deliver the kind of pizza I would expect to eat in Italy. Also yes, it costs more than it does in Italy which does not surprise me at all. With what life costs in Atlanta compared to a small town in Italy? I can't say 100% but if you went downtown Milan or Rome and tried to have a pizza in a similar neighborhood to where Varuni Napoli is located in Atlanta you'd be paying somewhat if not more than here. So, enjoy your pizza knowing it's as good as it comes.

Best pizza in town!

By S E |

Best pizza in town…and best pizza makers! Creative choices of flavors—must get at least two pies! Lemon spritz was on point. The tiramisu is divine—so fresh and light.

Good pizza and nice space

By atltiger |

We enjoyed our 'Bastardo' pizza very much, which included a spicy sauce. The space is minimally decorated, but does not seem barren or boring. It was busy when we went (a Friday night), but we had no problem getting a table inside. Would like to go back and sit on the back patio sometimes. I've read that some people don't like the 'soggy' crust... it says right on the menu that pizza from the Naples region is 'wet' and eaten with knife & fork.

Very Good Take-Out

By Traveler1959-123 |

They have a take-out window outside, making it very convenient in the current pandemic situation. Pizzas are good, particularly the white pizzas. Salads are excellent, with enough to share.

Best Pizza & Great Customer Service

By gina m |

Wonderful menu, great wine selection, beautiful interior and a cozy back patio. Luca the owner was walking around making sure all the customers were happy with their meal and very friendly as were the others on his Team. This is a great addition to my neighborhood!

Fine ingredients

By travellerfromatown |

We were happy with the pizza we shared for a light dinner. The crust was tasty and nicely textured. The toppings were all of good quality, which they should be for the price. I wish the tomato sauce had a bit more flavor though.

Loved the bianca, porecca picante pizzas!

By kurokitty |

We ordered takeout and were extremely happy we did so -- we ordered the porecca picante, which has a very spicy hot soppressata (salami) that you can't find everyday on other pizzas! The bianca has three different cheeses (including ricotta) and basil and was deliciously creamy and one that I didn't think my 3-year-old would be interested in but he loved it! When I went to pick up the pizzas, I was prepared to wait a bit -- the website says they do not fire the pizzas until you come in to the restaurant. It took eight minutes, all the while I was admiring the trendy and bright restaurant, with a dessert case that won me over (we tried the torta del nonna, or "Grandmother's favorite," a delicious lemon and almond tart, and the chocolate fondant cake). We definitely will be back, especially to dine in!

Great pizza!

By Joe |

This is the second time I had my family here for a meal and it is an awesome place to eat. The food is good and served in a timely manner. Will come back again when in the area.

One of the Best Pizza's In Town

By soitgoes14 |

We stopped in last night for the first time and we were not disappointed! You can park in the large parking lot on the side or back of the building (same lot Ru Sans is in). They have a large bar area you can sit at and watch the folks make the pizzas which is pretty cool. Plenty of tables inside and a very nice patio area outside with several tables. It was just the two of us so we ordered one pizza. We ordered the Porreca Piccante. The pizza is easily enough for two people and I could see three or even four depending on their appetites enjoying one pie. Immediately the freshness of all the ingrediants jump out at you. The basil was great and the peppers were very good. The hot soppressata and capicolla were fantastic. The dough was so nice. I can’t say enough good things about the pizza. Of the places I’ve been in town I think when I start talking about the best pizza places this one has to be in the discussion.

These Guys & Gals are simply the BEST - Pizza - Eggplant Parm

By uda-11 |

My Wife and I have been here many times and have brought our entire family in the past. We tried it again on 8/9/2020 around 12:30 PM, Covid19 might be around but they are well on board with protecting you and themselves, so go and enjoy. I thought at first that they weren't open because when I looked for their website on Trip Advisor I ended up with a blank page, so you should go directly to their website for an update on hours etc. Our food experience: First off remember this is not a cheap pizza joint this is a first class place with very high quality food prepared in an authentic Italian style. There is a difference and you can truly taste it. So if you are reading some of the reviews that I have seen, take this statement to heart. This time we had the Margherita and added mushrooms and hot Italian peppers. The pizza is thin and was done to perfection, just like I would expect from and authentic Italian pizza place. In Italy you would either use a knife and fork or fold the end over to the edge and eat it. We also had a serving of Eggplant Parmesan, the eggplant was sliced thin, the cheese was just right and the sauce can not be beat. This dish takes a little bit longer to get because it is freshly made, worth the wait though. We also had the Arugula Salad with fresh cheese slices, the first bite is a little bitter but that is just the Arugula, you will acquire a taste for it very quickly and enjoy. All of the staff checked on us including the owner and chef Luca Varuni. They really want you to have a good experience. I last reviewed Varuni Napolia in 2015 and have been enjoying every since then.

The Real Thing!

By Dave B |

Real Neapolitan Pizza! Gino moved from Italy where he had a restaurant for 20 years. This is authentic pizza. Wood fired ovens, perfectly cooked. The ingredients are fresh! No canned mushrooms or peppers here-check out the photo of Gino cooking the peppers.! We got two Pizzas $15 each. The are cooked very quickly because of oven's temperature. This a gem hidden in busy Krog Street Market.

Another great pizza joint

By Mamagrunge |

The pizza here is delicious, the staff is friendly, and the service quick. Many different options spots for dining. They came around and gave out samples of some of their menu items, which is a nice bonus. The "mac & cheese" actually satisfied my youngest hunger. Parking was not a problem.

Yummy 😋

By 679liznty |

My husband & I love this place. Their cheese is made fresh in the restaurant. The eggplant parm is delicious. It’s made as an appetizer but it melts in your mouth. The margarita pizza is awesome!!! We haven’t tried any other pizza yet but the margarita pizza is just so good!!!

Wet and undercooked

By asmac65 |

Today was the second time I’ve referred out of town friends to this place and they all said the same thing. The place was busy, and I know they have a lot of pizzas to cook. However, my friends said the pizzas came out under cooked and very wet. The ingredients were of good quality, but the cooks had better learn to do their jobs better if this place place is to survive. I’ve never experienced this at Antico. If you’re going to charge these prices, you need to get your stuff together.

Excellent Pizza in Atlanta

By Timothy F |

This is the nicest pizza restaurant in Georgia. I have tried almost every one of the top rated pizza places in Georgia. Yes even Anticos. This place has a beautiful atmosphere and the feel of Italy along with the Best pizza around. The customer experience is just awesome they have a great product great quality and at a decent price winner winner chicken dinner. The only set back is the line can get long quickly but they will come out and give those waiting something to keep your mind off the wait. They will even take a picture with you or take a picture for you. Just Awesome place to eat.

A very nice pizza restaurant

By Romex-Romex |

It is a very nice place to enjoy a glass of wine while watching the pizzaiolo making you pizza. It is entertaining, to say the least. The two wood fire ovens are running at all times and everybody looks busy. The pizza is very good, way above your average pizza place

Great

By Eb42 |

Really good food. Good for kids. Pizza was excellent and the atmosphere was cool. Wish it would be closer to my home in Charlotte but can't win em all. 2 pizza and bottle of wine was $75 - each pizza about $20-$25. Thanks

This place rocks!

By CORT71 |

Holy cow! The pizza at this restaurant is STELLAR. Varuni Napoli is a family friendly, fun atmosphere, with really, really good pizza. Kudos and thanks to the people working here. I give it my highest recommendation.

Best pizza in the neighborhood

By Michaela S |

We live in VAHI and this is definitely the favorite pizza joint to come to, easy parking in the back, great pizza choices and very nice staff, especially the owner. Can get a bit harder to get seat on busy nights but that is just proof that food is great ! Definitely a keeper with authentic Italian pizza

Great restaurant, one of my new favorites

By Tyler O |

The arancini appetizer was great, I could have eaten them as a meal if there were more. We saw Varuni Napoli on "Atlanta Eats". So glad we did, we been two weeks in a row and have enjoyed it just as much each time. The Bastardo pizza was great, not too spicy. I like that you can get small cups with extra Parmesan cheese, peppers, and basil. The pizza is just as good as Anticos, the restaurant just has a different atmosphere. Very nice staff, going to go again on a Tue or Fri night. They have free pasta brought to the table with your meals.

GREAT PIZZA. That's all you need to know, but if you want to read on...

By alexisrachelletx |

OMG. THIS is pizza. The restaurant's owner - Chef Luca Varuni - is from Italy and brought his pizza ovens from Italy. And you can tell. You know it's good pizza when the crust is as delicious as everything on it. And that's what the pizza at Varuni Napoli is like. I arrived on a Friday night (around 7:30 pm), and it was crowded but not crazy crowded. I grabbed a seat at the bar, because I was eating solo. I ordered a glass of wine (a Montepulciano they had for $7/glass). The service at the bar was excellent, and I even ended up chatting with the woman sitting next to me at the bar who eats at Varuni all the time. I ordered the Oro Bianco (fresh buffalo mozzarella, buffalo ricotta, Taleggio cheese, pancetta, pecorino romano, basil, and black pepper - I asked for it without the truffle oil - because if it's not real truffle, I don't want it - that stuff is so pungent!). Without the truffle oil on top, this pizza was one of the best I've had in years. The crust was to die for - light and fluffy and full of air pockets. The cheeses on the pizza were amazing, and they did not skimp on the pancetta. I'm more of a white pizza girl myself, and this one was great. Their desserts looked amazing, but I couldn't even finish my wonderful pizza. If I lived in Atlanta, this would be a regular spot for me. I told my cousin who lives in Atlanta that she needs to go ASAP. Delicious, great service, great ambiance. Two thumbs up.

A " Pizza Experience" not just a slice

By ssatl1948 |

Don't expect a NY slice here... enjoy the ovens, 2 specially built glowing temples to pizza heaven, the gregarious hospitality of the owner, Luca, and a short list of other Italian dishes for the non pizza fan in your group. Crispy crusty and imbued with that wood fired flavor that means an occasional burnt spot on the crust. Order a glass of red and site inside or outside and think imagine you are in Naples....

Excellent Italian food in the heart of Atlanta's Midtown

By SpanishteacherMD |

I met a friend for dinner, we hadn't seen each other in 25 years. He suggested this "pretty good pizza place" in Midtown. I said "Let's go". What a cool place. Eclectic and unique, step up to the counter to order your unbelievably yummy dinner. Pizza, pasta, meats, salads, antipasta concoctions. Unreal how extensive the menu is, and the desserts are also plentiful. We didn't have room for dessert, but everything was fresh. After you order, take a seat and the staff will bring your dinner to your table. The service was excellent, the food even better. I would highly recommend Varuni Napoli if you are in the mood for an intimate dinner for two, an informal business meeting, taking the family out for a fun evening, whatever. This place will meet all of your needs and the staff was by far, simply excellent. I'll be back the next time I'm in Atlanta. Check this place out.

Taste of Italy!

Nice trendy place with good space and comfortable accommodation. Serves a tasty Italian style pizza. Also serves imported bottled Coke, raising the bar on sodas.

Perfect Neapolitan pizza in GA

By AzadTF |

Great pizza, nice place! Woodfired oven and perfect ingredients = delicious pizza! The place to go if you are a pizza lover!

Crust is Perfection

By Tagalong71Atlanta |

The salad was substantial. Pizza was outstanding. Crust was perfection. Not too thin, not too thick. Everything seemed very fresh. Requested red pepper and received delicious fresh red peppers. Wine-$5 for NICE pour. Topped meal off with gelato. Just as good as Florence. Service was GREAT (sat at the bar).

Bad service

By nmlodzi |

Wanted to try this location because we love the Krog St Market location. Was very disappointed with the service. First off, we were told we cannot have a side of marinara sauce because the kitchen was closed (at 8:54pm) and they won’t be making more marinara sauce until the next day. A few moments later, another individual asked for marinara and received a large side dish of marinara immediately. In addition, we finished our meal around 9:20 pm and had beverages to finish before leaving the restaurant. We asked for boxes and shortly after were asked to leave by the manager because the employees were cleaning the restaurant (again 9:20pm). As a paying customer, I am deeply disappointed. Was very excited to try this location but won’t returning.

Well Crafted Pizza a Treat

By Alex S |

I live in Florida and went to Atlanta for a short stay. My significant has taught me to enjoy pizza (I know it sounds difficult to believe since most it is most people's favorite food.) My preference is light on the cheese and with 2-3 toppings as most. We tried the margherita pie along with a salad. It was evident the ingredients were respected along with the craft. Quite the expense taken via the ovens visible from the counter. I am glad we visited and if I find myself in the area once more, not to be missed. There is another well known place doing quite the volume yet I much preferred the simple wonderful taste of Varuni.

Our new favorite pizza place

By Dean-ATL-USA |

We love Neapolitan pizza and the Amore Mio did not disappoint. The pickled vegetable app was also excellent. Wine selections are good and less expensive than expected. I like the no substitutions policy on artisan pizzas since there is a build your own option. Order at the counter and find a seat, which may not be a private table. Noise level is very high.

Its all about quality ingredients

By 0989087 |

Varuni is a very nice european atmosphere pizzeria. We ordered the Bastardo pie and it was an excellent spicy choice. Outstanding sauce an very good ingredients.

Eh I expected more

By Stacey O |

Came with some friends to finally try this place out. We love Pizza! I was disappointed, while the pizza crust was great the pizza itself was a little runny (watery). Overpriced as well

Poor Covid protocols

By I. M |

Pizza is always good. What really shocked me is the poor Covid protocols. When orderIng, your credit card needs to be handed to the cashier for processing. Further, receipt needs to be signed and you are offered a can with several pens to grab and sign. If you’re looking for a safe, touchless experience, this is not your spot.

This brings the east coast flavors to the south

By FVStrona |

Being allergic to Hazelnuts mean I've never had the pleasre of trying Nutella. But of course anything with chocolate I'm always drawn to. the fact that they have got tubs of it around here is amazing. I wish I'd run into this place when I first got here for this temporary work assignment but would have come much more often. I liked the off-beat and quirky fast-paced friendly vib of the place. Not to mention, it smells great when you walk in. In a way only open wood fired kitchens can be. The pizzas have nice crust and flavor all the way around. The antipasto plate was a nice suprise find on the menu. I like the fact that they try unusual combinations, so overall definitely a fun place to go from date night to boys (or gals) night out.

Very good Pizza!

By miltonereyes |

One of the best Pizza in Atlanta! During Atlanta United games the have the Atlanta United specialty ( Margherita pizza and a pitcher of beer for $ 28.00) also the Pako pizza is really good. Good space with a full bar a Top on my list.

OMG - Pizza and so much more!

By uda-11 |

My wife and I decided to try Varuni Napoli today, 1/25/2015 @ 1:00 PM. The location is great the area is great the setting is just right for this great Italian restaurant. You can park in the small shopping center directly behind Varuni's, it's free. Chef Luca Varuni checked on us while we were enjoying our pizza, what a great youngman he is. Okay I know that you want to know about the food, we had the Amore Mio minus the soppressata, $18, large bottle San Bennedetto, $3, Cappuccino $3 each and Tiramisu $6. It was so good and the quality was very very very good, the best pizza that I have ever had even better that Antico's in downtown Atlanta. We thought that we were in Italy with all the great taste and smells. the Tiramisu was fantastic. The service and servers were very caring and there to help you. The eating area was very open and CLEAN. The bathrooms were the cleanest that I have seen. You want go wrong if you go here to eat - EJOY.

Simply delucious!

By flipper0211 |

The pizzas were great, other items on the menu was delicious. The tiramasu was yummy. The ambiance was fun and relaxed, the staff delivered such a pleasant service.

Great atmosphere, terrible pizza

By OutnAboutForUs |

Free parking in lot next to the building, but it's tight. Bright, clean communal dining room of reasonable size. Order at the counter and delivered to table pretty quickly. Staff, while efficient, have an air to them. Pizza with very thin, soggy crust. Sauce is sweet. The ratio of sauce to cheese is poor. Minimal toppings. Price about 1/3 too high for the quality of the pizza. Was very excited to try Veruni's and left very disappointed.

Stay away!!! Soppy mess of a pie

By sladeatlanta |

After reading all the positive reviews of Varuni, we were positively chomping at the bit to experience the restaurant! We headed over and found parking to be surprisingly easy. There is indoor and outdoor dining, and even on a warm summer evening, dining outdoors was very pleasant. You are advised to order before taking a table. No problem, we joined the line but there were no menus available to peruse for quite some time. We did have sufficient time to examine the offerings before we had to order. Our group of four ordered 3 separate pizzas, one white and two red. We had no problem locating a table that was to our satisfaction. The red wine we ordered was quite satisfactory. Surprisingly, the pizzas came out within just a few minutes after we poured our wine. Stop there. The experience going forward was AWFUL. I love a good thin crust pizza and Napoli pizza does NOT mean that they should come out sopping wet in the middle. All three of our pizzas were a wet mess in the center. The pizza thrower obviously gets the crust way too thin in the center when he is throwing. The chefs were obviously in quite a hurry because the ingredients were not spread evenly across the dough. The outside of the crusts and underside of the pizzas were quite browned but NOT pleasantly crispy. How can that be with the high heat of these ovens but for an inferior crust recipe? The consistency of the crust resembled pita bread. Doughy but not pleasantly crispy. As a PS, By the way, the pizzas here are extremely expensive. $20 and 21. (and BTW, no substitutions to menu pizzas) You would think at these prices that there might be a manager coming around to enquire as to the clients' satisfaction. There is NO management in evidence at this restaurant. Their website touts the high quality of their ingredients and preparation. Pshaw. Wish we had gone to Fritti or Brezza.

Great place highly recommending

By DessertLover22 |

This place was so great. Talk about pizza. Service was great and the canolis were so good. The decor is modern as I was a huge fan of it.

Excellent Food

By ConstantTravelerSE |

Fantastic, genuine regional food. Everyone talks about the pizza, but the calzones and desserts should not be missed either.

Decent pizza but not sure about their business practices

By A C R |

I personally like this style of pizza as a break from the Americanized pizza of most places. Their was inventive, fresh and pretty tasty. My issue came in using the Atlanta Passport. I have never had trouble in the past using it, but here they did not honor the full value. When challenged first we got "that is just how our system does it" and then from the manager "we are in dispute with the Atlanta Eats Magazine and the owner has said to put it in at 40% as opposed to 50%". He proceeded to say we should be happy they honored it at all. I pointed out that if they had not we would have taken our business elsewhere. On the whole the outdoor eating setting was nice and the food was decent, but we will not be back. Oh, they do have excellent cannoli's.

Best pizza in town

By Tigers8932 |

Hands down best pizza in town. The Italian street food, arancini, rice balls are also very good. Their antipasto selection is excellent. Luca, the owner, is very friendly and the atmosphere is very friendly. Treated like an old friend. I like the location. Plenty of parking.

Italian experience

By Vinicius M |

I've been to the top listed pizza places in ATL on Tripadvisor and they don't come close to what I tried in here. They have a lot of their ingredients imported from Italy so it just tastes so much better. The service is also great. I'm on a streak of 7 weeks going once a week.

Good Job!!!

By elisadebaggis |

A hole in the wall , but what a great surprise , it was simple good, really authentic, a original Italian style all the little detail , the staff wardrobe, the lighting, the plates and the silverware, the water bottles on the table. The place is alive and vibrant with all the pizza tossing and the two majestic pizza ovens, Italian products everywhere, from the original Italian soft drinks, the wine display...but did I mention the food simple to the origin, the ingredients are all so fresh as Italian in USA

NO THANK YOU!

By Yarsajor |

Descrimination all the way around for such a thing like good Pizza. Antico all the way better. Dress properly and show a thick wallet otherwise you are not welcome. With that being said, who cares about your "Best Pizza" in town or "Best lay out" or blackmailing other restaurants to put yourself on top. Earn and own a good reputation on your own instead off putting other ones down. I would say to this place: NO THANK YOU!

👌🏼

By Montana |

we’ve always ordered online and picked up. Never had an issue & it’s amazingggg pizza!! The Bastardo is a favorite. :)

Not tasty

By gingerc c |

I don't understand what all the rage is about. The decor is fabulous. The staff friendly and helpful. Great parking. Food not so tasty. It's blah. The black olives were sweet. The tomato sauce bland. The dough tasted burnt

Fancy pizza - the best in Atlanta

By HLandP |

Large selection of fancy pizzas with various types of hams or vegetarian options. They even have brunch pizzas. They've got large tables for groups or you could sit at the "bar" and watch the pizza assembly line. The staff is professional and very friendly. You can order pick up or I believe uberEats does delivery. Parking in the large parking lot behind the building.

One of the best in the city

By LilGoBlue |

Love pizza? Don't miss this place! The crust is bubbly, service is fast and patio is awesome! True Naples style pizza.

Nothing out of the ordinary and pricey!

By e e |

The reputation of this place was good so we tried it. Unfortunately it did not impress. The pizza was good but no better we can find elsewhere for less money. Overall the service was fine. But for a pizza place, you can spend your money better elsewhere.

Absolutely the BEST pizza EVER!

By DBL_12 |

Luca Varuni hails from Naples, Italy. His family ran a successful restaurant business in Naples. Atlanta is extraordinarily lucky that Luca moved his family to Atlanta and opened his own authentic Italian pizza restaurant. By far, the BEST pizza in town. Try it, you'll be a fan for life!!!

Delicious pizza, great atmosphere

By Rebecca H |

We stopped here for lunch based on other great reviews and we were not disappointed!! The pizza is delicious, we ordered the margarita pizza and added pepperoni. Very cool, bright atmosphere. Would definitely return when we're in the area.

Fantastic authentic pizza

By patricktm2017 |

Easily some of the best Italian pizza in Atlanta, with delicious fresh toppings and crust you can watch them throw. Will definitely be coming back.

Two Pizzas and Four Beers... $75

By Jan_from_Atlanta |

Tasty pizza served by enthusiastic staff in a most pleasant room. The décor is simple and clean in appearance with lots of places to sit. Order at the counter and the food is brought to your table. Like predecessor Antico, the draw here is authenticity of ingredients and preparation, which comes with a price tag. Most pizzas or calzones are roughly $20 each. Get a couple of pizzas and add some beer or wine and the check will run about $75 for four. Plenty of free parking. Bring the kids.

Where's the sauce????

By rai473 |

I've been to Italy several times and this pizza is not even close to the taste. Many people like this type of pizza but my four friends and I were not a fan. We felt it was almost like a fast food pizza joint. You have to stand in line at the counter to order which made us feel rushed. We immediately found out that you could not substitute or order a half and half pizza. I wanted a Cesar salad but the dressing had anchovies (traditional) in it which I do not like. Our two large pizzas came quickly. Neither pizza had enough sauce, cheese or ingredients on it and it was soggy. I'm not sure how thin crust gets soggy without sauce. The pizza was not filling. We felt it was over priced ($21.00) for what we got. The soft drink prices seemed like they were imported too at $3.24 for an 8 ounce coke and no refills. The servers were taking anything (napkins, plates, even my water glass before I was finished)they could find off the table before we were finished. They want you to leave as fast as you can. I prefer to sit down and order and sit at the table as long as I want when I am finishing especially if I am paying so much. We will not be back.

The best Pizza in Atlanta

By The_Guanacos |

Great Pizza Great service Great atmosphere..... can't wait to go back We used to go to Antico but that place is going down and service has always been horrible there.

Lively Location

By klmaestra |

I wanted to love Varuni Napoli but I prefer a crisper crust. I vacillated between 3 or 4 stars as the pizza is definitely tasty but it has a softer crust than I like. We shared the Bastardo & Spacca Napoli pies, one is red and meaty and the other white with mushrooms. Good taste but crust is softer and not crunchy. The char on the crust is tasty. The place does a good business so I guess the crust works better for some than others.

Liked the pizza!

By Marian L |

Too noisy, and it was a battle to find a table to sit down to eat at. The pizza is good, the arancini had no flavor. I asked for bread to eat with my antipasto but they did not bring it.

take out

By ted e h |

online or phone in order is a joke. They do not "fire up" your order until you are there. The couple in front of me received their order before mine even though I had placed my order 20 min earlier. When asked why anyone should place an order in advance they shrugged their shoulders and said, "that's what we're told to do".

This place says authentic and they mean it!

By CrankyTravler |

This was described as serious Italian pizza and it was an understatement. We shared a pizza and salad. Both were great, as was the service and timing. Thin crust and wood fired. Some of the best I've ever had.

Real Italian Pizza

By Claudio |

As every time, we test the good pizza by taking the Margherita to understand if the products behind it are truly Italian and if there is talent. Here, the guys from Varuni took us back to Naples in an instant with genuine products, the environment they managed to create in a "dull" Atlanta in mid-August and the talent of two brothers who have never seen Italy left. Well done!

Great pizza

By littlerocky5 |

Sit at the bar to watch the guys making the pizza, it's dinner and a show! All the staff are really friendly and the simple menu is well executed.

Maybe the best pizza in Atlanta!

By ATLgirl911 |

We order Varuni Napoli's pizza on Uber Eats at least once a month! It is a very authentic Neopolitan pie with perfect wood-fired crust! We typically order a white pizza with extra garlic and a margherita pizza - the spicy on is also supposed to be excellent! This is making me hungry for one as a type this review. . .

Keep it simple

By Nick C |

When you come in grab a menu, look it over, and be ready to wait a little. I will tell you now, it will be well worth it. I ordered a simple Margherita pizza and it was one of the best pizza I have had in Atl.

Varuni NOTpoli - as in not so good

By taopiglet |

First off you are greeted with a line that snakes around the front of the restaurant (around tables) with no real organization to it (you order at the counter, they give you a number and bring it to your table). The main dining area is really LOUD. However, there is a quieter outside area and a back dining room that's also quiet. Their number system also seems to confuse the staff as we saw many dishes being carried around the restaurant numerous times as they tried to find the table it belonged to. As far as the food goes...very lackluster. A couple of reviewers have mentioned how close it is to pizza they have had in Italy. It is closer to real Italian pizza than a Pizza Hut or Domino's is...but definitely not quite up to par (having lived in Italy for a year). What we had: Cuoppo - 3 Arancini (Fried seasoned rice and meat balls) and 3 Panzerotti (fried potato croquettes). The Panzerotti were the best thing we had all night...light and tasty. The Arancini were just OK. However, both the Arancini (very little if any meat...mostly rice) and Panzerotti were extremely small....think Ping Pong Ball sized on the Arancini. It was served with a very small serving of marinara sauce (not even enough for the overly small items). It also came with a handful of micro greens which I guess made the plate prettier, but served no other purpose. They could have at least drizzled a little Olive Oil/Vinegar over them. This was WAY OVERPRICED at $10. The Bastardo - Pretty Basic Pepperoni/Sausage Pizza. The sauce was tasty...but that's where it ends. I know that true Italian Pizza is supposed to have a slightly charred crust...but ours was a little ridiculous. Pretty much outright burned on the bottom on one half and no char at all on the other half. On top of that, the steam from the pizza left it sitting in a puddle of water that made the whole thing soggy after a couple of minutes. This is one of the first pizzas where we actually left about a third uneaten. Also, WAY OVERPRICED at $19. Total Bill (we had one bottled tea....no fresh tea here) was $34. Wow! For one approximately 15 inch pizza and a very small appetizer. These gourmet "better than Italy" pizza places seem to be popping up all over the city. Unfortunately, Atlantans seem to be buying the hype (at least for now). I would say...save your money. On top of that - the following appears right on their menu - "No Custom Pizzas or Calzones: Our pizzas and calzones are carefully crafted to represent the true flavors of Naples. We cannot make any additions or substitutions. We will happily remove a topping if desired and will do our best to accommodate any food allergies." I am not sure if they are calling me stupid by the above (pretty much saying they know better) or they are just too lazy/disorganized to customize their pizzas - and cloaking it in a "true flavor of Naples" comment.

excellent Neapolitan Pizza

By TMSPCUT |

The Neapolitan pizza is the best in Atlanta. Nice, friendly atmosphere. This is authentic Italian and everything I've tried has been delicious. This is our favorite neighborhood restaurant.

A+++

By Jamie P |

Visiting Atlanta for the day, and we were ready for lunch. A quick Google search later, and we found this near where we were visiting. The food was amazing! Real pizza, real ingredients. This is not your fast food delivery pizza. If you're in the area, go!

Great Pizza

By Bruce T |

Great service for a great price. The pizza could have been cooked a little longer to make the crust a little crispier and cheese warmer , but it was delicious and we are looking forward to going back soon.

go for the pizza but ignore dessert

By CJN |

Probably the best pizza in Atlanta with nice staff and a funky set up. The only dark spot is dessert. Their gelato is sad, pre-made frozen crap in a cup. A cannolo shouldn't be filled hours before and left sitting in the display case. Their tiramisu is lack-luster too. I'll always be back for the pizza, but they need to give their desserts attention the same attention.

Good addition to the neighborhood!!

By MMG07 |

Great space, beautiful decor and good service. We ordered the oro bianco and although the favors were great we felt that they could have put a little bit more toppings. All in all we enjoyed it and we will probably be back to try other favors.

Good pizza, just like the motherland.

By mdjonesaia |

Went for our first time and will definitely go back. Very much like in Italy, great flavor, ingredients, and presentation. Love the wine by the glass too. Busy place so be patient.

Good Pizza For Atlanta

By riceland |

This is one of the best pizza places in Atlanta. It is not Antico; but the equal of Double Zero. Varuni offers more menu options then Antico, less then Double Zero and the dining decor/experience is better, far better then Antico; but not as nice as Double Zero. So if you want good pizza with a salad, dessert and a drink in a comfortable and casual dining situation then Varuni is your place. It's location behind Hobnob on the corner of Piedmont & Monore works well for visitors not just folks from the neighborhood. The counter area has all the tech plug in options which is a very nice option.

Thin pizza

By goodfoodnut |

Very tasty food. Thin crust pizza, not much cheese, not a lot of sauce, but good. One of my party had eggplant parmesan, the best I've ever tasted. The pizza was regular price. And skimpy, but delicious. I recommend this restaurant, but not on a tight budget. Cool old neighborhood, half mile from botanical garden.

One Of Atlanta's Best Pizza

By toyman111 |

Having been to Antico a few times we decided to try Varuna. The setting is much nicer than Antico and the staff was very friendly. Had the Margherita Pizza, meatballs and salad. The pizza was one of Atlanta's best. The sauce is fresh and tasty. The meatballs were some of the best we had in Atlanta. Three meatballs in sauce with two large slices of toasted bread. Too bad they don't have pasta to go with it. The Ceasar salad is average at best. When we asked for water they give you a real glass with crushed ice. A bottle of water is on the table at no charge. They have ample parking and an outside patio. While this was our first time it will not be our last. Having been to Italy several times, Varuni's food is very similar to what we had in Italy.

Get the Nutella Calzone!

By Danniogirl12 |

Delicious, traditional brick oven, Italian style pizza. So good! Staff is friendly, and pizzas are prepped and cooked in front of you. Busy little place, but food was prompt and staff helpful. The Nutella Calzone was the cherry on top of the cake! Soooo Good!

Just as good as Antico, with more seating

By HonestAtlanta |

The pizza here is phenomenal, though you need to be a fan of NY style and appreciate fresh, organic ingredients. (If you're not willing to pay extra for organic and hormone free, skip it and enjoy yourself at Pizza Hut.) All the pizzas I've tried are excellent and there are lots of options for seating, and ample parking outside too. I've tried the Varuni salad and liked that too, although my friend did not. Also loved the Tiramisu.

Great pizza

One of Atlanta's best thin crust pizza..need to wait while they make it but they're pretty quick and the wine is good

Best Authentic Italian Pizza in Atlanta

By nfkld |

I recently visited Varuni Napoli with my husband and my son and we LOVED it. I must point out a couple of things - I love pizza and I have been to Italy to eat the "real deal" pizza. I have visited Antico Pizza in Midtown, where the Owner and head chef use to work and I didn't love it - the pizza or atmosphere so I was hoping for a better experience with Varuni and boy did they ever impress! The restaurant is wonderful - it's bright and modern and you can see the pizza being made if you sit at the counter. It also has a family style setting, a small bar with great Italian wine and beer (great prices, I must add) and also a back area and small deck. Now to the food - seriously, best pizza in Atlanta! It was so fresh and light that I ate 5 slices and was full but not stuffed. The owner, Luca's mother even was walking around offering fresh pastries she just made that are not on the menu. The overall vibe and service of this restaurant is top notch and I highly recommend for anyone to put this on their must try list. The only challenge is the place is on the corner of Monroe and Piedmont and is confusing to find at first but once you do, there is plenty of parking.

Absolutely delicious pizza

By Vida y Viajes |

Came here based on positive reviews and even it being mentioned in reviews for other pizza places. I visited on a Saturday early afternoon and there was a decent crowd and we were able to find a table. You order when you arrive and they deliver to your table. This is a pizza place with two brick ovens and pizza is their specialty. We ordered a margherita pizza. It arrived fairly quickly and it was absolutely delicious! The sauce and crust were so flavorful. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Parking is in a lot and at no cost. There is a nice outdoor seating area as well. Great pizza experience!

Great Pizza!

By MRM1655 |

We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Between an outdoor temperature in the upper 80s and the ovens, I thought the restaurant might be warm. No worries... It was a cool oasis on a hot day. Varuni Napoli is attractively decorated. Service was friendly and helpful. The pizza is terrific - among the best crusts I've had. Lots of interesting options for toppings, too... They have a short, thoughtful list of beers and wines to accompany the pizza.

Best Pizza in Atlanta

By Dham5254 |

I think Varuni’s has the best pizza in Atlanta. No doubt about it. Parking is in the back and I have not had a problem doing so on any visit. Prices are fair and you order at the counter and pay before they bring it to you. It is seat yourself. Try this place if you love great pizza!

yum!!!

By candykeeper |

Such good pizza! Was a very long line but they brought free slices while you wait which was a very nice touch. Salad was delicious, good wine selection, great service. They also brought mini donut pieces while we waited. Our pizza was yummy can't remember which one now but so good and can't wait ti go back! Also the nutella cannoli was good, just wish it was bigger!

Just keeps getting better

By Maria G |

Varuni Napali just keeps getting better. My daughter and I both swear the pizzas are larger than they used to be when they opened several years ago. The margarita was enough for two people. We used to have to order two pizzas.

Not a fan

By Glenn B |

Not a fan of thin crust esspecilly if it is a bit soggy. The place was packed so a lot of people like the pizza. I think it was well overpriced but any body who puts the words organic and hormone free feels that it is O K to jack up the price on everything including drink prices. Doubt I will be back.

Fantastic Pizza

By Classicsmjr |

If you like thin, crispy pizza, then this is the place for you. It is delicious. I met a friend, and we sat at the bar. We had a salad which was delicious and shared a pizza. Service was good and food was even better-will definitely go back.

Napoli

By TravelLightly |

True Napoli Pizza with unbelievable quality. Please understand it is meant to be different than Roman style pizza, hence some find it soggy -- I find it remarkably flavorful. Prosecco on tap is a plus. Try a sfogliatella for dessert to complete the experience.

My husband's favorite pizza place

By littlerocky5 |

Be ready to stand in line to place your order like a cafeteria. The pizza taste is worth that inconvenience though, and you can sit and watch the guys man the pizza ovens which is entertaining in itsrlf

Taste of Italy in Atlanta

By Charles G |

Varuni's pizzeria is the best pizza next to being in Italy. Luca is always a perfect gentleman friendly and willing to help you with anything that you need. The staff is always friendly and the food is always awesome. Although I still love Antico pizzeria I like Varuni's better. The food is consistently great, I've never had to wait more than five minutes for a seat and that was only because I was placing my order and the space is just beautifully designed. Luca always has time to come from behind the counter to greet his customers with a hug and ,of course, the ladies with the kiss on the cheek, he is a charmer. Everything about this place is awesome I highly recommend it if you are into Neapolitan style pizza.

Saw this place on "Atlanta Eats" and tried it on a Sunday. The eggplant appetizer was amazing and the pizza was perfect. Let's qualify perfect: This is Napoli style pizza baked in a high temp oven. It's not Chicago pizza. It's not New York pizza. I love all pizza and found this delightful. Everything was fresh and delicious. Great décor and atmosphere. The service was quick and friendly.

Delicioso

Excellent pizza, one of the best we've ever had in the U.S. Superb ingredients, perfectly fired crust. Add a pleasant greeting when you walk in the door and service that was impeccable. A small slice of dolce vita. Gracie!

Great Neopolitan pizza here!

If you want TRUE Italian pizza - thin crispy crust - and delicious flavor.....search no more!! Varuni delivers the best pizza! I always eat in but also get food to go for the week......eggplant lasagna plus all their other dishes are very good!

Bella....moto Bella!!!

The closest thing to the street pizza that you can find in Italia. The best hands down for Atlanta. Great fun atmosphere, families, young locals, die hard pizza fans of all ages. Love the outdoor patio...just waiting for the summer steam to move on...

Awesome thin crust type Italian pizza

By AtlantaGuy J |

This place is awesome for a casual but still nice dinner experience. I dislike communal dining. But, they have enough tables and a bar area where you can get enough privacy to enjoy your meal, without having to be invaded by strangers in your space. I've heard this place is owned by the same family as the frathouse experience known as Antico pizza...This place is SO much classier and adult, and pizza is definitely better here. Love it and have been here multiple times...wouldn't go back to the Antico mess, where you have to stand to eat! Tip: sit at the bar so you can have good service and avoid having to stand in line to order your food and then (hopefully) find a table. Only way they could improve: Develop a full-service style place where you can be seated and order -- who wants to stand in line like a fast food restaurant, and then (sometimes) scramble to find a table to eat it?

Fantastic

Food tasted excellent. Pizza easily rivaled antico and amazza. The tiramisu dessert was top notch. Great location, owner was very friendly and sat down to chat with us at length. Plenty of seating, outdoor and indoor. Could see this place blowing up before long.

Nice, comfortable, ok pizza

By Barnesms |

Nice place, comfortable, good choice, ok pizza, worth a trip (back). Went for the first time. Interesting layout, quite comfortable. Order at the front, not table service (kind,of) with fresh made pizza, place. Amazing ovens BTW. Good wine, had the Montepulchiano, (forgive the spelling), great wine for $32 a bottle. Pizza, fresh made, I think ours was a little undercooked (talked to “the front”, but not listening), but still OK. Veggie, make your own was great. Good arancini appetizer. They offered a great taster, pasta, sausage, that was great, hope they keep it. All in all good. Yes, I’d go back. Hoping the pizza is cooked a few minutes longer next time.

Long Lines, Bad Service, Mediocre Food

By YoungOpa |

Hard to understand the popularity, unless we are sheep. This place is good if you like long lines and Pizza the way they want to make it, not the way you prefer it. We ordered 2 pizzas, and customized one. The order arrived wrong, and when we asked for it to be fixed, they told us "it is not our policy to make it the way you asked" We were offered a refund but told we could not have our pizza the way we ordered it (and the way they charged us for it!) The other pizza was soggy in the center. We won't waste our time or money going back.

One of the best in Atl

There are several often spoken about "great pizza" places in Atlanta. Some deserve this type of hype some don't. Varuna, I believe earns that type in of praise. I have found not only does the pizza and other specialties continually meet and exceed my expectations, It brings a little midtown flare to the staid pizza dining experience. Located at the crossroads of the midtown park area, it is a great place to eat then experience the Park, the Beltline, or the Botanical Gardens. Everyone has there own idea for what makes pizza great to them. That said, I would find it hard for anyone to eat here and leave not saying "that was a damn good pie".

Good Ingredients Way Over Priced

By Patrick B |

This guys make a decent pizza, and they import all there ingredients from Italy. But, let be honest, flour, water and yeast don't cost that much money. Even Italian tomatoes which can be pricer doesn't mean that you pizza is worth $25 - $28 dollars. Mellow Mushroom is pricey too, but this is at a new level of expensive for pizza.

Love Veruni!

This is an authentic Neapolitan pizzeria. They do a wonderful job baking proper pizza of Naples. We Had a margherita and a Bianca. Both were well baked, with excellent soft texture and tasty crust. Cool place with friendly staff and good pizza!

Excellent pizza

We were impressed by the prompt service and the excellent pizza. I had the Bastardo. We also had a nice bottle of red wine but I've forgotten the name of it. The only downside of this restaurant is it's a little pricey, but there is free parking.

Perfect Pizza

Varuni Napoli is another hidden gem within close proximity of a number of fantastic restaurants. Varuni's is my top choice for pizza in Atlanta. It is definitely a top ranked restaurant. All the ingredients are very fresh.

Nice Pizza

By Vtm R |

Almost like the pizza in Italy. Very high quality ingredients. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Very wide selection. You have to order at a counter and the interior seems a little cheap and simple.....no backrests at the chairs. But way to pricey. More than $20 for a pizza for a medium sized pizza....too much even for the quality.

It's ok

By Traveling4Change |

It was ok. The pizza is not authentic in my opinion. They undercook them and the toppings are sub par. We went for a birthday and all pizza is good, this just wasn't great.

BEST PIZZA !!!

By Mary-Jo D |

We tried Varuni Napoli for the first time & it was fantastic!! The pizza was like a trip back to Italy, the freshest ingredients & cooked just perfectly! The desserts are not to be missed ---amazing cannoli & tiramisu! It is a really fun place with great food & really fun atmosphere! The staff were all really friendly. They also have wonderful patio when the weather is nice. We all can't wait to go back!! I really think it is much better than Antico.

Great pizza!

Had dinner here before a concert at smiths olde bar and was perfect! The smell when you walk in the door is incredible - big open kitchen so you can see all the activity. Cool deck area out back. Very comfortable place and the pizza is amazing!

As good as NY!

What a great find! I saw this place in the hotel info "Eat Atlanta" segment. A huge variety of delicious pizzas, appetizers and delicious gelato. Communal tables are fun and the crowd is young families and young couples and friends. Pizza are pretty big and cooked in beautiful blue ovens. Service was fast and friendly. A must when in Atlanta!!

Delicious true Napoletana Pizza

By Michael M |

The Monroe location (the original) has wood-fired ovens manned by people that know and (as importantly) understand the artisanal aspect of great pizza. In addition to traditional Napoletana pizzas, other toppings make for great eats (the Maradona is a favorite with sausage, pepadew peppers, & mushrooms). The crust is deliciously flavorful, with the appropriate char to the bottom. My wife’s favorite dish, however, is the meatballs appetizer. The meatballs are light and tasty, and accompanied by a nice marinara sauce. The cannoli are also a great way to end the meal. The main dining area can be quite noisy during busy times, but the back room is quite. There is a nice outdoor patio for pleasant weather seating. There is a full-service bar, as well as several bottles of (pizza) wine to choose from. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Prices are as one should expect for high quality Neapolitan artisanal pizzas. Highly recommended.

That's some Great Pizza!

By step511 |

I'm gonna be honest--I was hesitant, my expectations were low. Well wow, wow, wow--we loved the pizza! It has to be the ovens...or maybe the ingredients...I only wish I lived closer, but this pizza is worth the drive (and the traffic). The employees were also very friendly and worked efficiently--so service was great as well.

Awesome Pizza – Great Place!

By Ryan M |

The pizza is excellent – I would say better than Antico. I’ve been here three times with my wife and our friends over the past couple of weeks. We’ve all thoroughly enjoyed the food (pizza, salads, cannoli) each time. - Friendly staff – the chef, Luca Varuni, frequently exits the kitchen to intact with guests, asking about their meals - Ample seating (tables, typical bar seating, pizza bar seating, and an outdoor area) - Parking lot behind the restaurant makes finding a spot easy - Try sitting at the pizza bar to watch how everything is made…it’s pretty interesting Recommendations (or at last items I/we have tried and really enjoyed)… Pizza: Pako, Porreca Piccante, Margherita, Mastu Nicola, Oro Bianco Salad: Varuni Salad Desserts: cannoli

Outside dining

By flossem |

At this restaurant you order at the front and your food is delivered to your table. Since it was a nice day we sat outside on a very pleasant patio. There is plenty of seating indoors too. Staff was efficient and we were satisfied with the limited service offered. The food was good.

Great pizza!

Great pizza!!! We had this pizza delivered via Uber eats and it was fantastic. It was a little spicy but I liked it. We also ordered a cannoli with pistachios.

Don't miss the gelato!

By BStrickland12 |

Enjoyed dinner here after the Atlanta Jazz Festival. Sat outside on the back deck - delightful! Ordered upfront then retreated to our table with wine in hand. This is traditional handmade pizza - very thin crust with fresh ingredients- served speedily by friendly staff. We also treated ourselves to Caesar salad (fresh anchovies) and two saucy meatballs beforehand. All scrumptious but leaving room for some Honeysuckle chocolate hazelnut gelato. We got the pint sized serving and did not leave a drop.

authentic Neopolitan Pizza

I enjoyed delicious, authentic Neopolitan Pizza from Varuni Napoli. They also serve beer, wine, and cocktails.
