Just had a delicious lunch - effectively a thali without the tray - at Veda. Started with the cauliflower - crunchy with a lingering, subtle spice. We shared the mushroom korma and the chicken makhani. Wonderful blend of flavors. We sopped up all the sauce with the naan - perfect amount. Loved the kheer and galab jalum for dessert. The bartender provided great guidance on the wine. Ask him what he recommends! Can't wait to go back.

This place is a treat for Indian food lovers. The food quality is great and staff is quite welcoming. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice and they have a good food menu to choose from. One must try the chicken tikka and dal makhani for sure..

Exceptional Indian Cuisine served with outstanding service in a beautiful atmosphere. Make this restaurant a must. Hayden, the General Manager made our first experience an incredible memory for our family. My husband, who was born in India even thought that the food was incredible and that is a complement of the highest order. The service was always attentive and professional and made our experience all the more enjoyable. This was a special occasion for us - a birthday and they did NOT disappoint. We can hardly wait to return to Philadelphia in December to celebrate our son's birthday. There is something for everyone here at Veda. Do yourself a big favor and make plans with family and/or friends to eat at this estabilishment.

Having eaten in a few Indian restaurants, I don't usually out seek out Indian food, but that just changed. Friends took us to Veda and it was AMAZING. Let's start with the Veda Mule. Great twist on a classic. Next stop was crispy spinach chaat and the tangy cauliflower appetizers. I literally could have eaten a big bowl of just this and left a happy man. Seriously, you have to order these. Our group ordered and shared about 5-6 different dishes and they were all delicious. My favorites were the tandoori chicken with garlic and ginger and the lamb chops. My wife couldn't stop talking about the wild mushroom korma and the tamarind fish kari. Great place to go with friends to try some amazing food and unique drinks. Can't wait to go back. These guys are bring the yummy!

tried many indian restaurants really liked the ambience food andf service definately coming back for the Seafood Bhel Lamb Chops chicken biryani overall a good place for indian food for philly

I went to Veda with my family as I had heard good things about this restaurant from some of the other friends. I have to say that it lived up to its expectation. I loved the food and service. It's authentic Indian taste. I will recommend Veda to everyone.

We went here Saturday night before our trip to the Dakotas as we stayed at the PHL Courtyard since we had an early flight on Sunday. Parking is easy and right next door on Chestnut. The only way to describe the decor is NYC chic. It's bistro all the way and not to be confused with a quiet mom and pop Indian shop. The noise level can be a little daunting until you sit and 'hear' the soundproofing that just turns the noise into a vibrant addition to this excellent restaurant that could play anywhere... NYC, Chicago, SF, LV, etc. The service is above 5 star. Everyone takes a hand in making sure that everything is OK. Then there is the food. It's high quality traditional Indian. The choice of beverages are upscale. We started with Ragda Patties (Veggie with sauce), then shared Lamb Vindaloo, which is served spicy unless you ask for a mild version, but would suggest picking a milder dish to start with... and a Veggie Biryani that was loaded with flavor. The menu is extensive and everything that we saw pass our table looked great. And the Naan is perfect. We're planning to go back before our next trip in June.

Excellent food and service. All the helping people were really good and customer centric. Food was exactly as ordered. I ordered Amritsari kulcha, garlic Naan with roganjosh and lassouni gobi. All preparation was excellent . Kulfi is a must try for dessert.

Not yo mama's Indian restaurant. Veda is beautifully decorated, very new age and cool. The food is fantastic with traditional Indian flavors and a modern flair. Great service as well. We will travel back to visit again!

We really enjoyed the food. They ask you how hot you want it on a 5-point scale. We found #2 pretty mild and #3 was what we’d call medium. Lovely appetizers. Recommend the hummus platter: curried hummus, chick peas, and an eegplant appetizer with naan. Garlic naan was wonderful. We shared a tandoori that we liked and some curries. Everything was delicious. Vegetarian friendly, too. Only one issue for us - the Tumeric Bliss mocktail at the bar was different from the Tumeric Bliss mocktail ordered at the table. Bar version was better. Highly recommend.

Excellent service, atmosphere and food. We loved loved it and will be back. So flavorful and prepared just the way we asked regarding spice level. Good cocktails, hip vibe. We will be back!

I've eaten Indian food in a number of restaurants worldwide and the dishes I sampled at Veda were among the best I've ever had. We stuck with the small plates and added a grilled lamb kabob. The lamb was so tender. The crab cakes were very flavorful as were the samosas and especially the chick pea patties. The fact that I can remember what we I ate is testament to how good the food was. The flavoring and spices were more subtle and interesting than your neighborhood curry place. There was a nice selection of beers on tap and also wines by the glass. We had room to split a gulag for desert - nicely done - with ice cream. Service was very attentive and friendly. I can't wait to go back again with friends.

We had dinner at Veda with friends on Sunday October 6th. The food was delicious and plentiful. Our server was terrific; the ambiance of the restaurant is excellent. Everyone thought their orders were 1st rate, and although the portions were large, there were clean plates by the end of the meal. Dessests looked great, but by that time we were too stuffed to sample them. The whole experience was delightful. We definately will be back.

Had a fantastic dinner here at Veda tonight. I started off with the Crispy Spinach Chat and my husband had the Calcutta Pork Ribs. For entrees I had the Tofu Green Peas Curry and he had the Fish Moilee (white bass). We had great service from our waiter Khemraj. He recommended a really tasty bread that we never had before--Chili Cilantro Naan.

We very much enjoy Indian cuisine and were very happy with our excellent meals and service at Veda. It is a little expensive but worth it.

Veda is a lovely environment, beautiful and not too noisy. The food is very flavorful and the service is attentive without being too pushy.

Delicious food, awesome atmosphere, and a great staff. I will be back again! I would give 10 stars if I could! Thank you Veda!

It does not get better (OK, if we were a few feet from the water). If you happen to be in Phila. any day of the week there is cause to be happy. Top three reasons to go: 1) Best masala mussels I have ever had, the sauce was incredible.... 2) Friendly, helpful, knowledgable Bartender, he connected everyone at the bar and made a great stiff drink. 3) All the food was good and it was $5, yes. I highly rec. the food, service and atmosphere.

Less than a week before our reservation Veda canceled our reservation for a large group because they decided to close the restaurant for a private party. It's very difficult to find a place that can seat 8+ people on such little notice, so they really put us in a frustrating position. I wouldn't depend on them.

I am a vegetarian. My husband is not. We both found something to enjoy. Excellent wines. Great service. You wont be disappointed.

The place is very relaxing and the Indian food is perfect. We started with crispy spinach chaat which was delicious. Then added Kababs which were tasty and fresh. We ordered a Vegetarian Dum biryani which had just the right amount of spices with dahi. The quantity was very good and the cocktails were just right. We ended with kulfi topped with berries which was perfectly made. The service was very attentive and fast.

we always have difficulty finding a good indian restaurant in some US cities but veda was good. authentic at least. the biriyani was great. recommended

On January 1st Veda opened as a “Modern Indian Bistro” and everyone was talking about this restaurant. I decided to write a review about Veda so I started my research; some friends visited this restaurant for dinner and they say Veda was noisy, crowdy, the service was slow during the evening, and the dinner menu is more expensive than the lunch menu. Then I decided to come for lunch. It was fantastic! Variety: The lunch menu does not offer the same quantity of dishes as the dinner menu, however, the lunch menu has a decent variety. The lunch menu gives you the opportunity to try dishes from different regions of India; from “Chicken Tikka Makhani” (Punjab, Northern India) to “Goan Shrimp Curry” (Goa, Western India). You will also find famous dishes like “Lamb Roganjosh”, “Tandoori Chicken”, or “Tofu Green Peas Curry”. Inexpensive Lunch: I recommend very much coming here for lunch; the restaurant is quieter and the food is cheaper (two courses for a fixed price). Lunch includes a soup + an entrée served with Naan Bread + UNLIMITED Basmati Rice + Little Papadums + Ulli Vada (an kind of fried onion side) + your choice of Dal Makhani (lentil side) or Channa (garbanzo side). It is a lot of food for only $15! A bad thing about the lunch menu: it does not show the non-alcoholic drinks available. They have delicious drinks like the Mango Lassie and the Salty Lassie, but they don’t show it on the menu. If you go remember to order a Mango Lassie! Their website does not tell you this! They also have happy hour from 5pm to 7pm EVERY DAY: Service: Another good thing of this place is the service. This is a casual dining restaurant with table service. The staff is kind, helpful and efficient. They seem to be trained to answer all your questions about the menu, they will be able to help you to understand the Indian Food that they serve. We had a good experience with the service, the dishes came perfectly on time.

I am not too fond of eating Indian food outside but food in Veda is AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS. Such a lovely twist to Indian food. Absolutely loved it! The ambience, the hospitality, the staff - all are perfect! A long journey from Australia to Philly, but whenever I go to Philly again, I will definitely go back to Veda. Highly recommended for pampering your taste buds.

Horrible service. Our first round of drinks took 45 min and apps took even longer. Management had the audacity to stop serving us because they said we were there too long and they had another reservation. What kind of restaurant does that, it took so long because of their slow service. Would definitely not recommend it at all.

The food was excellent! Went with family and 2 kids, geared more towards adults for a night out. Weirdest thing was water had no ice, is that a thing now? Worth a visit if you love Indian food

Nice setting, waitpersons were friendly but a bit inept. Messed up our cocktail order and had to be asked to clean up rice and food morsels from table after plates cleared. The restrooms are down stairs which were badly in need of vacuuming . Food was meh.

First off, I knew I should have cancelled my reservation when I was told by phone that we had 90 minutes to eat, even though we were a party of 6 for a birthday party. When we arrived, 4 of us were there, and we were told that we wouldn't be seated until everyone was there. Fine, I understand. Then when we finally sat down, we discovered our table was a highly cramped one, actually for a party of 4! We get our menus , (1 drink menu for all), and immediately are pushed by the waitress to order our food , without even ordering drinks yet. This was actually the theme for the evening, a constant pushing to finish our food as fast as possible. When we finally got our drinks, I had the most watered down old fashioned I ever had in my life. So I commented to the waitress, and she talked to the manager who said he would personally remake it. She came back to inform me that they had discovered that they had inadvertently put less bourbon in the drink, and instead of a new one as promised, put a splash of bourbon on top of the drink that we were drinking and reserved it! When the apps came, the corn soup tasted more like a broth , like boiled water with some corn chunks inside! (Again, watery !). We ordered some other apps including cauliflower and ragda Patties (again small portions, but not bad in taste). While we were eating our apps, the waiters tried at least twice to take them away to move on to the next course! I twice refused them. Finally the entrees came, and they weren't bad in taste. What I found to be a stunner was that the Paneer Makhni and the mushroom entree that my wife and I ordered were mostly just liquid, with a rare chunk of mushroom or paneer! The taste wasn't bad, but nothing special. Also, the naans were microscopic in size. Now I do understand that a fine restaurant can have smaller portions, but at least the portion that you get should have some substance in it! When we finally got to the dessert, although being pushed all night to finish our meal, it took over a half hour for the dessert to come out! The waitress left the bill right after serving, and asked us twice to settle up even though we were still chatting. By the way, the restaurant was not full at this time and there was no one waiting to get seated. Of course they had a beer on the bill which we didn't even order (which we had them rectify). then there is a mandatory 21% tip (not 20, but it had to be 21%!). For me that level of tipping implies that everything was perfect , and this was far from that. The overall problem with this restaurant is that customers are treated like cattle and a commodity, and just being pushed to keep moving right when seated. Also, all food and drink are concocted in a way to maximize profit and spend the least amount of money on ingredients. And they are so blatant about it! I have never in 30 years of eating out been asked to settle a bill after a check was placed on the table (a waitress always waits until we pull out our credit card) and this happened not even close to closing time! I suppose if you are desperate for Indian food, and can tolerate being treated like this, then go ahead. For me and my party, we won't be returning.

I went to this restaurant, to which the hotel concierge sent us, with a friend from Hyderabad. I can't comment on authenticity, but Deepa could and did. She was very pleased about that. As for me, the food was winderful, service was nice, prices very reasonable. I wish I had a picture of the Chicken Biryani dish, so pleasing to the eye. And the flavors!!! We also had an eggplant dish that was nice and spicey ... perfecto! Highly recommend this place to those who love good Indian food!

Can be good or very bad and you never know. Three visits that ranged from tasty to over salted and under cooked and tasted like leftovers.

I have eaten here twice. The first time for my birthday a couple of years ago. I would rate 5 stars for taste. The food is excellent. One of the tastiest Indian restaurants I have ever dined at. This time I had the onion and sage naan, which was nicely seasoned and tasty. The chicken tikka dish I had was also exceptional. The creamy sauce was delicious. I removed two stars because of the outdoor seating. In attempt to prevent Covid19, the chairs were covered with plastic bags, similar to what you get with dry cleaning. This was very uncomfortable. Luckily, I had on jeans, because if I had worn shorts, my skin would have been sticking to the bags. It was a very hot day. This practice is not only unsightly, but uncomfortable. Please invest in another alternative. Cheap plastic chairs are easy to clean.

Veda calls themselves a Modern Indian Bistro. I would call them a Delicious Indian Restaurant. Beautiful furnishings and art. Nice menu without a 1,000 choices and it is all very good. Some classical Indian dishes like Tandoori chicken and Chicken Makhani but also some unusual things like an okra salad--okra was crispy and delicious --not at all slimy. we went for lunch and they offer a reasonably priced prix fix lunch that includes a variety of side dishes along with an entree and an appetizer. Everything was delicious, well-prepared. An excellent addition to the Rittenhouse neighborhood in Philadelphia.

I stopped by to try a drink at the bar and I was very pleased! I did not eat, but I intend to come back for dinner! Every smelled and looked delicious and all the customers appeared to be very happy! I ordered a "morning kamasutra" martini and it was very delicious!

A fun and vibrant location. We loved the specialty drinks at the bar. Everything was delicious and we can't wait to go back!

Went ther yesterday...Food was gud but the quantity was very less compared with the other same category restaurants in the Philly city center. very less options in the vegetarian main course curries.

Not the typical Indian fare. The food is very tasty with just the right amount of spice. They prepare okra and spinach with a crunch that is delightful. The service is spectacular. They have a bar. The restaurant is not too loud and is great for business or romantic dinners.

My husband and I had delicious drinks last weekend at Veda, our food was a mixed bag. It was a very hot weekend and the Lassoni Gobi- deep fried cauliflower tasted stiff or like it had been sitting around, same with the pork ribs, they were flavorful but tasted leftover. The garlic nan was delicious as were the Chicken Murmuri Rolls-- crisp, flavorful and served at a perfect temperature. Our Chicken Tikka Makhani was rich, too much cream, not enough chicken and very small amount of rice. Our servers were professional and fast. The hostess was welcoming. Drinks were delicious, white wine and a lovely vodka drink, my husband had a terrific glass of red wine and also a great gin and tonic. I would like to try it again and see if we hit it on a better night.

Happened to find this rare gem in Philli. Staff was courteous to let us dine in 15 mon before they close. Gabbar drink (old fasioned whiskey) , Tandoori Shrimp and Khubani Koftas were my favorite.

Had dinner. Am a pure Vegetarian and the starters were real tasty. Good Veggie Options for the main course too. Fairly quick service Not sure about the Aircon though felt stifling hot inside. Ambience and sense of space can certainly do with a little improvement. But the flavor and taste may just bring me back again

Good ambience ! Visited with kids. Achari Chicken for apppetizer is delicious and crisp; with a must try "lingering taste " Chicken biryani is a good sized pirtion for 4 . The kids loved the flavors and the spice level with a slew of welcoming staff. A very well presented and sumptuous Non Veg Platter is a good sampler for variety. We improvised the gulab jamun with ice cream .It was wonderful!

The restaurant is having a very tasty , traditional and authentic South Indian food of both vegetarian and non vegetarian food. The dining experience here is excellent.

The absolutely worst experience in Philly that I have has in the past two years while working in Philadelphia. The sad part of it was the lack of concern and willingness to solve the issue by Management. Things happen but when the restaurant fails to correct the issue or even address the table then you have no other option but to go elsewhere. Veda has a good atmosphere and the food that we did receive was good but many people did not get what they wanted or ordered and the attention from the waiter was terrible. Until they change the manager, we will not go back.

Its really a wonderful place to eat Indian food and celebrate your lovely occasions with your loved ones. I loved it :).

Food was great and the atmosphere was even better. I have been here many times but it was my friends first time. He loved it and complimented the server

Great atmosphere great food. Under rated cool spot Friendly staff happy hour weekdays from 5 to 7. 5 to 8 weekends. Where do you find happy hour on weekends.

Was recommended by a friend to go and Veda did not disappoint! Amazingly friendly and attentive service but we never felt rushed. Food came out piping hot and the chicken biryani was the best I have ever had! Drink were made well and very reasonable bill. Will definitely be returning with my family (at least the wife for a night out)!

We cook Indian at home, have eaten Indian in India and in Jackson Heights Queens, but VEDA is the BEST Indian food we ever ate! The chef rocks it out with delectable Indian food that is served hot (temperature wise), the way it should be. The food was so good here that we will return for a weekend just to have it again. WE LOVE YOU VEDA!!!!

Delicious food. Charming place. Make a reservation so you don’t miss out! The staff is very attentive and dishes can be adjusted to your spice liking.

My wife and I came here during Valentine's day. Knowing alot of restaurants serve special menu and nothing else we expected that. but they were also serving their normal menu that anyone could order from. No one told us that the normal menu was available otherwise we would have ordered other items from there and would also have been cheaper. the food and drinks were good and we will probably go here but not pick a special event.

As being Indian, I was amazed by theme of the restaurant, Veda - (4 books of God for humanity). And they have a bar counter just at entrance, how ironic. Anyways, the theme was catchy and ambience was fine. We ordered lasooni Gobi (garlic cauliflower dish) as starter, and biryani as main course. Both were very well prepared. Authentic Indian taste. Veg biryani was bit spicy, I think it will be too spicy for local people as they are not habituated with that much spice. Biryani came with Raita (yogurt mixed with cucumber onion), it was not enough for one biryani so we ordered one more, I will get this absolutely free in any part of India as much as I want, but here they charged me $3. This is just not fair, its just takes 2 mins to prepare and cost not more then 50 cents. Biryani was $17, its just rice and vegetables, should not be more then $10 cause making cost will be less then $3. Same with Gobi lassoni $9 is bit much but it was very tasty. But I will look fwd to visiting again.

We had a delightful lunch (served thali style with an appetizer) at this new Indian restaurant with a stylish mid-century modern decor, in the building where the former Le Castagne was located. Everything was delicious, but highlights included the sweet, spicy, crunchy cauliflower appetizer, the Punjabi chicken curry, and the dal makhani. For lunch, you choose an appetizer and a thali platter (served in bowls on a striking hammered silver arc carrier ) with choice of entree and dal or channa, also comes with naan and rice (both were excellent). Very reasonably priced, less than $20 with tax and tip, and, at least for now, a complimentary beer. My friend loved the cardamom wheat beer. Interesting selection of bottle and draft -- someone is a beer afficianado. Service was very friendly. My new favorite Indian!

Best indian restaurant that I ever been too hands down also really good staff Will be visiting again

The food was really good and the atmosphere was a modern take of India. Interesting location and set up. Try the mushroom or spinach/cheese dishes.

Food was just ok but service was not. Our server had never opened a bottle of wine before (do they train their staff?) and the lights were turned up bright at 9:30, sending the message the staff were ready to go home. Won’t go back.

We enjoyed our food and cocktails at Veda but I am not sure the experience is worth the price. The location was convenient (just off Rittenhouse Sq) and I am sure that real estate doesn't come cheap. The menu was tasty but relatively small. If it's Indian you are after I am sure there are cheaper options that are just as good if it better.

It was alright. If you are used to real Indian food; this will not please you. Everything was very blend. There are better choices in city.

Our family of 5 was keen to taste authentic Indian food after several weekends spent in Vietnamese Chinese and Italian styled restaurants. We were vegetarians and so felt that this restaurant would be good, reading the reviews and ratings. We had no reservations but were received well on arrival and seated at a comfortable table. The menu had an assortment of veggie dishes which should satisfy the Indian palate.. We ordered some starters drinks and the main course together. Starters were good and appreciated. Then came the main course of tofu green peas curry and dal making along with a bread basket. The problems were clearly tastable from here. The bread basket had garlic Nan that had no salt and the curries seemed to have the different masalas cooked separately and added together very late into the preparation. They tasted veggiees separate from tomato puree, onions and Masalas. The integration did not happen. The dishes and the bread basket were a disappointment . We walked away feeling for the poor choice of selection. Hope the management and the chefs will rectify this soon getting back the Indianness expected in the cuisine.

Tasteful decor which was comfortably modern with soft, welcoming touches such as the bookshelf in the entrance area and the soft ambient lighting. Our server was friendly, very informative about the menu and with a delightful sense of humor which matched ours family's perfectly. The food was delicious and we were able to choose our degree of spiciness for every dish. A very enjoyable evening.

Hands down the best Indian food I've ever had, not to mention a fantastic atmosphere. Check it out!!

My husband and I went to Veda for restaurant week in Philly and everything was wonderful. Staff were very pleasant and attentive. Food was amazing. RW menu included 4 courses plus we ordered drinks (beer and & wine) and the goat cheese Naan. Portions were not large but we left feeling full and satisfied. Especially loved the Crispy spinach Chaat (1st course) and the ricotta pistachio cheese cake for dessert. Everything was fresh and flavorful. We highly recommend Veda.

Great discovery of a modern, fine dining Indian restaurant in the heart of Philadelphia. Very warm, inviting and comfortable vibe here. The staff are very attentive, and friendly. Unfortunately I wasn't able to explore many items on the menu. I just had a few delicious appetisers. I must say, you have to try the Lasooni Gobi - which is a lightly battered and flash-fried Cauliflower tossed in a Ginger-Garlic sauce. This was amazing! I'm looking forward to coming back to explore additional items on the very enticing menu. Veda sells a beer call Rupee. It's a Indian beer carefully made to pair very well with curry. I'm not a beer drinker per se, but I found the taste and overall balance very good. I also had their Old Fashioned, named Old Fashioned Gabor. It consists of wild turkey whiskey, orange liqueur, bitters and turbinado sugar. This was so good!! I should've had another! Check Veda out! It's a delight!

We were walking by looking for a place to have lunch, as we were spending the weekend in Philly, and we saw Veda, read some reviews before walking in and decided to try it. It was GREAT, they had a prefixed menu, appetizer and entree and we loved it! Food was absolutely yummy, service was great and decoration of the place makes it a very good experience overall. My husband had the tofu green peas curry and I had the chicken tickka Makhani, both were delicious! If you want a place with character and have excellent Indian food, you will enjoy this one for sure!

Veda was a 4 from me but our group voted it up to a 5 on average. Upon arriving (early) for our reservation, we were informed the kitchen was closing and needed to rush our selections. Kinda started us off on the wrong foot. We also weren’t offered dessert (I assume because of the time - they might consider adjusting what seatings they accept). However, following that hiccup, the service and the meal was very good. The flavors of the meals were delicious. The spicy corn soup was the highlight - per its name, it’s very spicy if that’s a consideration for you - but the Goan shrimp curry and pindi channa masala were also worth returning for. I loved the Desi Mule cocktail. I wouldn’t say it’s the best Indian food I’ve ever had (we’ve been blessed in this regard) but certainly close. Definitely a regular spot if we lived in Philly.

Trendy atmosphere. Great food. Vegan and vegetarian friendly. Non alcoholic cocktails available.definitely worth a visit for quality food in a relaxed atmosphere.

Just had dinner last night at Veda. The food was incredible!! This was my first time dinning at this restaurant. Loved the drinks, service, and decor. Very cool place!! I suggest having dinner at Veda and enjoying an array of awesome food. Make sure you order the crispy-spinach-chaat which is gluten-free and tandoori-chicken. You will not be disappointed.

We had booked Veda for our daughter's wedding welcome dinner on 5/3/24. The whole process from the time we contacted them till we had our function was smooth. They were very accommodating to our requirements and went beyond our expectations. If you are looking to have a large gathering I will definitely recommend doing a buyout. We decided on the menu and then we were guests at our own dinner. It is full service. The ambience was good and our guests enjoyed both the food and their awesome selection of cocktails. Gaurav Bhardwaj and Brazil provided excellent service. Did I mention Food? Very Good and Flavorful. We are from Delhi and big foodies, and I must tell you that they superseded our expectations. The décor is very pleasant and we didn't need to do anything additional They provided us two stations for our henna ladies. Our function was a big hit. Check them out for your next baby shower, engagement, birthday function!!!!!

On our visit to Philadelphia we wanted a restaurant close to our hotel and Veda fitted the bill being only a five minute walk. It was quite busy but fortunately we had booked ahead. Service was good and the food was delicious.. The portions were generous and we were unable to finish everything. Would certainly go back if we were staying in Philadelphia again.

Beautiful place for dinner..I am not a huge fan of Indian food but i wanted to give Veda a try. It was wonderful..Loved all the dishes and the service was great. The manager checked on us a couple of times. He could not have been nicer!

Was in Philadelphia for a conference at the Convention Center and was invited to join a group for dinner at Veda. From the outside the appears to be a run of the mill small Indian restaurant but when you walk through the front door you enter a beautiful large, open dining area. The sound level was ideal for having a business conversation and the staff was excellent. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and provided great recommendations. Crispy Spinach Chaat was awesome and the hummus & naan was perhaps the best I've ever had. I ordered the Shrimp Curry which was great. Just the right level of heat, flavors were perfect and the Jasmine rice made a nice side to balance the heat. When in Philly, skip the cheese steak and try Veda!

We stopped here on a whim and wow! We were blown away. We only ordered the crispy okra salad —you MUST get it! Then we had the crab cakes and the Mirch murg Tikka. Both of these were wonderful. We defiantly will come back!

I visited as a guest of friends and was delighted. I grew up eating Indian food in the UK and this was excellent. I would definitely go again. We shared several different dishes and there was not one that disappointed. Spicing could maybe have been a little stronger for me. But any Indian restaurant filled with Indian diners is an indication of the quality.

We had a lunch buffet on a Sunday and enjoyed all the appetizers and main course. The dishes had a variety of flavors and didn’t overlap in spices (common observation with Indian cuisine). The Bacardi lassi was bit too strong for our liking and the rice kheer could be seasoned a bit more with nuts and cardamom? Definitely will come again in our next trip to Philly

Good food, but they gave me a tiny amount of rice--a small dish that was 2/3 full. I was almost finished and asked for a little more rice, They charged me $5 for another small dish! I generally only review places that I would recommend highly. But that was a straight up ripoff. When the MO is ripping off the customers, it's a bad sign overall.

A few associates and myself decided to try this place as we were heading to the airport to fly out after a business trip. Just on a whim, I found myself one of my favorite restaurants in the country. When the wait staff mentioned this was one of Mike Trouts favorite restaurants, I knew I was in a place I could trust. We decided to do a family style offering and just ask the server to pick our fare. What he brought out was easily the best Indian offerings I've had. We had our fill and the only disappointment we faced was the fact we couldn't take our unfinished meals with us since we were schedule to fly back to Utah soon after. Not only is the food exceptional, the cocktails are really something to admire. I had the rum mango lassi, and (I can't remember the name) a green chile "moscow mule" style drink. I wish I had the skills to recreate either. I guess I'll just have to make a point to go back, huh? Ambiance was A+, food was A+, service was A+, cocktails A+. I don't have a single complaint. I can't WAIT until we can go back for another trip out there I will definitely make a point to return here each and every time I'm able.

Went here during the Restaurant week while I am in Philly, the food is awesome and nicely cooked. Loved the Paneer dishes and deserts.

Wow! There are Indian restaurants and then there are Indian restaurants. This one absolutely checks all the boxes: Lovely décor and ambiance; experienced and friendly staff members (thank you, Morgan!); extensive and thoughtful menu and really fabulous food! Our meal included both chicken and shrimp dishes, and both were amazing, as were the starters and naan. We returned to our hotel and immediately made a reservation for a second trip! If you like excellent Indian food, Veda is definitely the place to go!

Was a let down from the start. We asked the waiter some questions regarding the dishes and requested a few min to decide what to order. He disappears for a long time. We had to request another waiter to come take our order. The naan was burnt and like toast. The lamb shank was cold with the sauce having no flavor. The biryani was ice cold and more like pulao. The Chicken Lababdar was described by our girls as reminding them of chicken Parmesan. All in all a very disappointing experience on New Year’s Eve. Possibly because there’s no one to supervise, place is run by waiters and staff that are trained to follow recipes and obviously have no idea how to prepare a delectable Indian fare which they are claiming to do. Sorry state of affairs. Will not recommend and will not return.

Last week, my wife, Ellen, and I enjoyed a wonderful four course dinner at Veda during Restaurant Week. All of the dishes we ordered were delicious. Our server, Mani, was outstanding. He explained each of our selections in detail. He even described how many of the dishes were prepared. The atmosphere in the restaurant was warm and inviting. In sum, this was a very fine dining experience. We look forward to returning soon with friends! Bill H.

I'm really beginning to love Indian food but don't like eating in strip malls or in small dining rooms that smell of curry and nothing else. Enter Veda-- great food and even a better atmosphere. If you go you must get the Cauliflower app and any of the tandoori dishes

As Someone who eats Indian food often, I was pleasantly surprised that a new Indian restaurant opened up on Chestnut Street. The closest place downtown is Philadelphia chutney company which is more fast food Indian. This restaurant to go over a former Italian restaurant that I’ve been there for almost 15 years. I was expecting a little bit more of an ambience when I went in with my family, they were playing modern pop music and there wasn’t much Indian cultural Decour on the walls. You couldn’t even really tell that you were in an Indian themed restaurant. The food was tasty although a little bit pricier than expected. The food came out in smaller bowls then a few of the other Indian restaurant in Philadelphia. I enjoyed the tofu green pea curry and the Dal Makhani. My brothers had the Lamb Vindaloo and the Tandori chicken. We ordered both Garlic and Onion Naan. The food was tasty and the service was pleasant. I can’t speak on the drink menu as I only ordered a beer and none of the well named cocktails. The least expensive bottle of wine was $39. I would like to come back here. I hear their lunch buffet is reasonably priced. But I would suggest making a little bit more of an improvement on the ambience and make it feel more like an Indian restaurant and less like a stoic restaurant in a suburban mall.

This is my go-to spot for Indian buffet in Center City. The service and ambiance are very good and I’ve used this location for informal business lunches. Food is high quality, especially for a buffet, and is relatively affordable. Because of decor and quality service, it has the feel of a high end restaurant, not a typical buffet restaurant. I’ve always made reservations but reservations have never seemed necessary - doesn’t get super crowded at lunch.

Nice evening ,great music and ambiance ,ordered bread basket and chicken chettinad, chicken biryani , Mushrrom Korma , Ragda chaat , Tandoori chicken Great service and good food Very disappointed with the Biryani 🙃🙃 Not at all a Biryani it's curry mixed with rice and does not have flavor of any spices of Biryani

The one after is for the only good thing of our visit which was the Old fashioned ordered by hubby. But the rest of the things were all thumbs down including the mojito which hardly had any alcohol and asked why I don't taste the alcohol, the overly smart bartender Raul said it's cause it was blended which kept me wondering why make excuses for drinks that you can't make well. For one of the drink, this Raul.must have tasted the drink for 8-10 times before sending it for the customer. Why would ugly need to drop that for a drink that's been on their menu for ever. The food was ok ok. The Ragda pattice was not authentic as the Ragda is made with white dried peas and not chickpeas like fine at Veda, you lose a star for not being authentic. Pork ribs were everything but Indian, missing on spices and heat, it was way took sweet. Overall not a good evening where food is concerned and to make it worse we had to experience this unprofessional bartenders drinks, not impressive at all. Earlier this restaurant was saw quite good and I would have gotten it 4 stars but now no way

Do not miss Veda on Chestnut St in Philadelphia....an Indian fusion modern approach to Indian food. Relax in a cozy atmosphere, and try the soups....spiced just right, then move on to the entrees with exactly your own level of "picante" from 1-5. The crispy spinach chaat is to die for! Ghobi Mutter cauliflower with a light coating of rice flour is another suburb appetizer. We enjoyed the Wild Mushroom Korma, and Nilgiri Fish Korma.....I would put up against any fare in Taj Hotels! The crispy mint paratha was a real treat..... Disregard the grouchy reviews you might find here..and try for yourself. I have indulged my delight for Indian food in all corners of the world...and Veda stands out as one of my five favorites!

I went to Veda a few days ago while attending a conference. I found the experience very enjoyable from the minute we arrived. The cocktails were creative. My friend recommended a change to the cocktail (switching gin for vodka I believe) and they were very accommodating. I got one as well and it was delicious. I think it was named "Laila". I got the grilled shrimp. My colleagues ordered a lamb dish and the other ordered a chicken dish. Sorry, I don't recall the names, but they both liked their dishes and I did as well. Everything was properly cooked, served in nice, eclectic dishes and served with a smile. It was a very nice experience...one that I highly recommend.

Went here for dinner about 8 pm on Friday night after place we booked up the street had wait, was very crowded and sat us by door on a very cold night. No reservations and no wait. Spacious for Center City. The menu is a bit different from usual Indian fare. Food was very good. I had corn soup and shrimp curry dish. Both were delicious. Beware though food can be spicy hot. They will ask you for your preference. Potato dish was also very good. Service was friendly and good. I will return.

We had a wonderful meal at Veba. The samosas were not greasy, and were very tasty (not spicy). The tandoori salmon was outstanding The chicken dish was like a tiki masala but had a different name-it was outstanding. The naan was great Mango lassi was wonderful The restaurant was clean and up scale Excellent service If you like Indian food this is not to be missed

I called Veda a day before and it went on voicemail. However, they called me back in a few hours and confirmed my table for 9. We reached on time and had our table ready ! It was a perfect table for family, being away from all the crowd and just perfect for our family get together. The presentation was perfect and the taste was up to the mark. It was a wonderful experience especially for my father in law who hardly goes out to eat. The service was up to the mark and very prompt and courteous staff. I just felt there was a little too much oil for the gravies which could have been avoided for a little more healthy option. We loved the taste though and I would give 4/5 rating as I just wanted a little bit more kick for Aloo Gobi sabji and though the presentation of deserts was great, I expected them to taste better. It is surely a must visit for the ambience and a great experience.

My family loves Indian food, and my oldest daughter specifically loves Chicken Tikka Masala, which this restaurant does not make. I asked them if they could make this meal, and they said that they could. I mentioned that my daughter has a nut allergy, and they said that was no problem, so we decided to go there. But when it was time to order, they told us that they couldn't make the Chicken Tikka Masala, so this was a very unpleasant experience for my oldest daughter. But my wife, my youngest daughter, and I absolutely loved our meals. The food was wonderful, the atmosphere spectacular, and the service acceptable. Therefore, I would recommend this restaurant. But I must say that I felt deceived. To get us to dine there, they misrepresented who they are and what they do, and this resulted in an unpleasant experience for my oldest daughter.

Indian food is one of my favorites and the food quality here was very good. Went with a few co-workers so we ordered a few different selections and shared. ALL the food, from the chicken to the lamb, was delicious. The bar was jam packed as it was happy hour I think. Service was a little over the top we almost felt like the waiters were hovering. Food was prompt and hot. Price was a little more than expected. As expected the wine selection was small but i found a nice Grenache to go with the meal.

We know and like Indian food, so were excited to try a new place during restaurant week. We knew it might be busy, so reserved early for 6 PM. We were seated promptly, but it took quite a while to get menus and order. And we were told we could not get the restaurant week specials unless the whole table had them, and one of us 4 had dietary restrictions so we could not - though we could see no logical reason behind this. We each had a different dish and I tried all four. The only one with any Indian flavor was chicken; I can't recall the exact name. One had an old favorite, murgh masalam with lamb - and it might as well have been beef stew. I couldn't taste any spices, hot or savory. Another had shrimp that was boring and I forget the forgettable fourth. I did have a crispy lettuce appetizer that was good. The service was lackadaisical, and the noise level was AWFUL! We could barely hear each other talk. I'll never go back.

First visit. Very impressed. Just really really good high quality Indian food, staff that cooperate and coordinate with each other, comfortable chairs and tables, elbow room, and good live music. Basically what every restaurant should have but most miserably fail at. Thank you Veda. I am a fan of Indian and now I’m a fan of Veda. We will return! Was not intended as a special occasion but Veda made it one. Recommend chana masala and dal makhani. Or anything really.

Went to Veda for brunch. The lamb sliders were overcooked and dry. The shrimp tacos were OK. The chicken Kathi was good. My daughter's summer tea beverage had hair in it but they responded quickly, removed it from the bill, and made her another one. The waiter service was very good.
Good food, excellent service
Food very tasty and well-presented. Friday night was very busy and there wasn't a table in the house, but the kitchen was not slow and we dined and were out in about an hour. The wait person was excellent and answered our questions about how the food was prepared. Despite crowd, noise level was moderate. Very nice place.
