This restaurant has been around for 15 years or more and still has excellent food. It was one of the first to offer Mexican food beyond the typical Tex-Mex. We really enjoyed it when it opened and its first few years but had not been back for quite some time due to the fact that it is about a 45 minute drive. But we like Bishop Arts district and had a Groupon so we returned. The place has not changed much. The menu is still diverse and offers many interesting dishes. I think that the originality of the menu is less now due to the opening of Meso Maya and Gloria's. We started with queso compuesto which is queso with meat, guac, peppers, and other ingredients. The wife thought it was too salty but I enjoyed it. They use strips of sirloin instead of ground beef. The meat was tender but you get long strips of meat that don't fit on the chip so it is hard to eat. The meat needs to be cut into bite-sized pieces. I ordered the chicken enchilada with blue corn and mole. Really loved the mole and the chicken was tender ($13.95). It is just as good as at Meso Maya. The wife ordered steak carnaval ($15.50) and really enjoyed the flavors and tender meat. The atmosphere is laid back and casual. Not noisy or boisterous at all. Our service was a bit slow, especially considering that the restaurant was less than one-third full. The food has not gone downhill so it is curious why they were not busier on a Saturday night. In any event, this restaurant is still turning our first-rate traditional Mexican food. I would recommend it.

The flavor is there with less the grease. Everything we have tried on the menu has been fabulous. Wait staff is one of the best around. Parking is kinda crazy since it is in the Bishop Art District, but worth the attempt to eat there.

Food is always great, service has always been excellent for us. Have had a lot of the menu items and have not had a bad one yet. Would recommend this restaurant, they also have another location in Duncanville, Texas It is just as good.

Friends gave us a gift certificate to this restaurant a couple of years ago and, because it was a little out-of-the-way for us, we just now got around to using it. Our loss! Everything was delicious and the service was outstanding. I had the marinated steak with a blue corn cheese enchilada with mole sauce. Next time I go, I will probably just get the enchiladas. That mole sauce was amazing! My wife had the authentic Veracruz tamales. They were also very good. Big, tender, and delicious! It’s not often that we splurge on a desert, but I am so glad we did. The tres leches cake was a perfect ending to a wonderful meal. We agreed it might be worth the drive just for that! Our waitress was spot on throughout the evening. She is a native of Veracruz and had lots of great insight to the cuisine of the area.

We found this place walking around the arts district. We had 5 people in our group of varying degrees of Mexican food knowledge and everyone enjoyed their meals. I had the Mole with chicken, which was delicious (I am very picky about Mole), my husband had the fish tacos, also excellent. My daughter loved her steak Veracruzana. A main dish for each of the five of us, two margaritas and three sodas came out to just under $100 including tax and tip. The restaurant was unexpectedly attractive and the service could not have been better. I would recommend for families or groups of friends looking for a fun, inexpensive yet nice dining experience. Great area to walk around after diner.

I lived near the Cedar Hill location and have eaten there many times. In my opinion it is not only the best Mexican food in DFW it is the best restaurant. Period. My mouth waters just thinking about it. The multi-colored chips and salsa are excellent. The blue corn enchiladas are ridiculously good. Try the cactus salad or the chile rellenos. Out of this world. The few bad reviews on this site must be people who only like normal Tex-Mex. You won't find nacho cheese or canned beans when you go through these hallowed doors.

Saw the great reviews and wanted to try this place, I have to say I was pretty disappointed...service was great and friendly but food was just ok, except the appetizer quedo that was very good.

My son and I make a special outing to Bishop Arts District to have lunch at Veracruz. The food is influenced by the ancient Indian cultures. Our steak with chicken enchilada and fried plantains was a large portion, and delicious. The chips include my favorite blue corn and the salsa was excellent. Prices are fair and you are not rushed. Find a Groupon and really get a good deal.

I was in town on business and met up with my uncle and cousin, I was craving mexican and they brought me to Veracruz. We had a great time, the decorations were very unique, and the staff were attentive. The food was wonderful, delicious blue tortilla enchiladas and the best refried black beans!

Wow, we found Veracruz mentioned in a Bishop Arts Area brochure and opted for potluck. How lucky can we be. From the moment we opened the door we knew it was good. The food aromas were wafting from the kitchen and filling the place with those warm Mexican flavours and notes. We ordered margaritas and got the best we've ever tasted. Nachos and pico de gallo arrived next, very tasty and all home made. Mains were beef enchiladas mexicala with Rojas sauce. Shrimp fajitas with flour tortillas and beef carnivale. All perfectly prepared and cooked. Sublime flavours and textures. In the authors opinion this is the best food we have eaten while in Texas. First class. On another note, we asked the hostess to book us a taxi and the restaurant owner offered us a lift back to our hotel. As I say, it doesn't get better than this. Thank you to all at Veracruz, Bishop Arts District, Dallas.

The location in the Bishop Arts district could not be better matched with excellent service and an amazing array of authentic Mexican specialties. The flavor and atmosphere were excellent and high recommend this place. Definitely a go-to in this area.

Best seafood Mexican food. Guacamole is good too. Had chicken that was outstanding. Our favorite place

I don't often choose Latin food, for a variety of reasons. I love it, but it is often hard to digest and unhealthy. This was an assortment of Latin favors including Aztec, Mayan, and more- not all Tex Mex and can be very a smart choice when it's done well in the right venue. Veracruz did it well. It was tasty, a bit spicy, reasonably priced (lunch choices at $10.) with great service from Luis, too. It was our first visit and are glad we gave it a chance.

Veracruz in Bishop Arts has been on our top ten list for many years. It offers authentic Meso American cuisine, Aztec and Mayan influenced dishes, like chicken pipian, Pumpkin seed sauce and some of the best mole we've had graces several dishes. The have a great lunch menu which they honor on Tuesday nights. Always good friendly service, nice cocktails, and a cozy homey atmosphere make this a perfect place for a relaxed lunch or dinner at a great value.

Great staff mediocre food. With such a great location I was expecting a lot better. The salsa and chips were the best thing we had.

My husband and adult daughter and I enjoyed a very nice lunch at the Vera Cruz on August 26. The cactus salad was very good and Roberto's soup was very light and flavorful. Out waitperson was very friendly and helpful. I recommend this restaurant highly!

This restaurant is pretty good. It's a small & pleasant ambience to be in. The food was really good & they have such a wide variety to choose from. The service was really fast & quick. From the outside the place looks run down & old but the inside is so clean, & decorated really well. This is the perfect spot to go have a nice dinner with friends and family. I will definitely return back to try other great food from here.

Parking can be tricky in the Bishop Arts District... or not. Staff was efficient and attentive, the food was incredible. I had brunch, the Vera cruz tamales were moist, meaty and authentically prepared in banana leaves accompanied by eggs over easy and perfect rice, gleaned from my friend's plate. When you see natives eating there regularly, you know the food is authentic. The only thing missing was a mariachi serenade... that might have been a little trickier than parking for the smaller rooms.

Super flavor. Super service. Nice ambiance. Don’t walk by because it says cafe- it is a full service cozy but sophisticated restaurant .

This is hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant. It is authentic Mexican (Mayan, Aztec, Mesoamerican food). There are a couple of Tex-Mex entrees though. I go here every year for my birthday dinner. The sangria swirl margaritas are excellent, and strong! Highly recommended. The Bishop Arts District is a jewel as well, great atmosphere to walk around after dinner. Lots of independent shops and restaurants. It's a safe area, just keep the doors locked when you drive through the rest of Oak Cliff to get there ;)

Had lunch here recently. Excellent food, excellent service, great ambiance, gracious owner. Cool artsy area of Dallas. Would highly recoomend. Outstanding tacos, beans....generous portions, cool presentation.

A nice change of pace. Don't expect the standard and basic tex mex. Varied menu and wonderful decor. Fresh salsa and chips were abundant. Reasonably priced for lunch

In the Bishop Arts District, interior mexico cuisine. Yes, they also service some tex-mex if you just have to have it, the food and service was fabulous. The Bishop Arts District is full of little shops.

Hot sunny Dallas day (93 balmy degrees) 😳, was in the Bishop Art District and needed to beat the heat. Came across the Veracruz and walked in on a whim. After some guacamole, jalapeño slices, salsa, and chips, washed down with a couple of margaritas, we stumbled out completely satisfied!

Almost hate to write this review for fear that one of my favorite restaurants will be "found" and trampled to death, but Veracruz Cafe serves simply the best real Mexican food in Dallas in my opinion. However, Veracruz Café is not for everyone. First, it is tiny, so don't go expecting to find tables that will accommodate more than four diners. Second, it is not really a Tex-Mex place although it has a few Tex-Mex items on the menu. Third, parking is a challenge at best. Shh !!! Don't let the word out.

Veracruz Cafe in the Oak Cliff's Bishop Arts District should your next destination for authentic Old Mexico cuisine. The ambiance is romantically cosy, the service is fast, friendly and comforting. The food is delicious. You will be happy to recommend it to other's as a place you have "discovered". My taste buds relished in the kick of their crispy Bottle Cap Jalapeno hand dipped in panko and their almond-crusted oysters served with Crema Totonaca. Roberto's Desert Soup is overflowing with cactus, squash, beans, cheese, cumin, epazote and more. For entres I keep going back for their Chicken Mole Xiqueno, Steak Carnaval (topped with fundido, mushrooms escabeceh and pickled jalapenos, and their Adobo de Puerco (tender pork bites relaxing in an excitingly spicy red tomato, ancho and chili seco sauce (oh my!). Next time I am going to experience thier Pescado Xanath (fresh crab and shrimp stuffed white fish with enchilades). And then...their various blue corn enchilada selections are inspired (Huasteca red sauce, mole Xiqueno, Queso Fundido, sour cream). The Mayan style tamales and Azteca/Texan fusion tacos and tostados are tasty. Are you hungry yet? Plan time to shop the district with its eclectic mix of small neighborly stores.

The food and service are good. I had the Pipian pollo. Unfortunately the screaming children ruined the atmosphere and it appeared that this is acceptable by the management. If you're a young couple with undesciplined children this is the place for you.

Service was good but food was average!! We usually eat at pizza place across street which is amazing!!!!! But we wanted to try something different the food was just ok we wouldn't go out of the way to eat here again

Superfriendly attentive service. Excellent margaritas. Try queso compuesto for appetizer. Varied menu of Mesoamerican fare. I highly recommend.

Quaint little restaurant with eclectic decor and excellent food. Best Chicken Pipian (roasted pumpkin seed sauce) we have had. Not your typical Tex Mex.

Food was excellent, service was great, what a wonderful atmosphere. Sidewalk tables if you choose to sit outside. The almond crusted oysters were out of this world, Best tamales ever, pork melted in mouth. Highly recommend. We went to the Oak Cliff location.

I suggested Vera Cruz as a place to meet for a business lunch. I love that you can have a conversation without having to talk over the rest of the patrons! The food was excellent, and the service was top notch. This was not my first visit to Vera Cruz, and it certainly won't be my last!

Great time enjoying a very nice dinner here! Totally authentic! The best Mexican food that I had ever had! Don't pass by this one! So good!

Excellent Mexican food, great atmosphere, service. We have been coming for more than 15 years. We love Pescado Xanath!

In an older, historic building in the Bishop Arts district, this restaurant serves some good food. Their "non traditional" chili relleno is amazing. Weekend brunch menu is also good.

I've lived in Texas and New Mexico for most of my life. I've eaten more than my share of Mexican food in those years, but I'm not sure I've ever had it prepared quite this well. The flavor combinations were fresh and sophisticated without being too overdone. The mid-price menu offered a good variety and the service was gracious and efficient. I definitely plan to return next time I'm in the Big D.

We have a good time with friends, and family, little over charge but is ok, hard to find parking, had to park one block away, we like it.

This restaurant has an awesome combination of traditional Mexican dishes mixed with a little of the expected Tex-Mex food. The food is fresh and full of flavors that take you back to Veracruz. The "Jarochitas" appetizer is a nice option and "El Borracho del Pueblo" gives you a little bit of everything. Great place and greater food!

Very authentic Mexican food! We will come back. Service was quick. Atmosphere was very casual which is typical for most Mexican Restaurants.

I've eaten here several times and always enjoy it. The service is great and the food is consistently good. The almond crusted fish is a favorite, but I have also had the chicken pipian and it was really good too. The other night I tried the chicken mole and definitely plan to order that again as well. I've eaten at both locations -- Cedar Hill and Bishop Arts -- and the food is consistent across both and I've never had a bad meal or bad service.

The atmosphere is beautiful from the moment you walk in. The hostess was pleasant and attentive. Our service was impeccable. We had several margarita flavors. Frozen mango was DIVINE! The Queso fondido with chorizo was amazing. I will return again and again.

The Veracruz food is rich with flavors from the Aztec, combined with Mayan and Mesoamerican. What does all that mean? Veracruz Cafe is a must visit. We had the tamale which was moist with the right mix of spices. The side of black beans were fantastic. As if all of this is not enough, the star of our lunch was the mole sauce. I asked for a bowl on the side and we savoured every bite. The atmosphere and staff added just the perfect accent.

We had appetizers here as part of this walking/eating tour. The food is more Aztec/Mexican than traditional Mexican so it's a little different variety than you're used to seeing. They have a chicken with sunflower seeds and sauce that's very interesting. They also have an egg roll type of appetizer that's also very good.

first time visit but not to be the last. Not your typical tex-mex which was a welcome relief. The service is just fantastic. Our drinks never got less than half full. Server was friendly and aware to make sure we we're taken care of without being overly intrusive. Fajitas had the right amount of onions, peppers , and sides. My only one slight issue is that the tortillas were a little too stiff so I had more of a taco than a fajita wrap. When in bishop arts district it is worth the visit.

One of our new favorite places. The menu has a bit of everything and everything we've had is very good. They have margarita flavors you've never even heard of. Very accommodating staff as well. I'd recommend it!

Really hefty portions. Great guacamole. Margaritas weren't that large, but tasted good. That might've gotten them an excellent rating from me, because I'm a Margarita fan. Pleasant servers and atmosphere. Nice scenic spot with seating outside in Historic district. I sat inside.

We went there this afternoon because today is "National Margarita Day" and they have the best margaritas we've ever had. And, in addition, the food & service is awesome. Our server, Andres met our every request promptly & with a smile & Pedro, one of the owners, always makes us feel special!! Great experience.

Three of us enjoyed Sunday lunch. The restaurant was moderately busy; we were seated right away. The salsa was flavorful, the margaritas tasty (no mixes; real ingredients). We shared enchiladas with three superb central Mexican sauces and great fish tacos. Two of us are vegetarians, but our third companion enjoyed his red-peppered pork. Service was prompt and courteous, prices reasonable, the decor festive. Bishop Arts District is one of Dallas’ hidden treasures. I highly recommend a visit to it and a meal at Cafe Veracruz!

While in the Bishop Arts District we decided to try this restaurant for lunch. The menu is quite extensive, and it takes a bit of effort to read through all the choices. My son chose the carne texolo, my husband had the el conquistador, and I had the molé enchiladas. Wonderful authentic flavours, fresh salsa and chips, pretty attentive service - who could ask for anything more?

I've lived in North Oak Cliff for almost four years. All of the restaurants in the Bishop Arts Districts are pretty darn good. But, Veracruz is my favorite. Perfect up-scale casual Mexican food with an emphasis on the Veracruz area. Recommendations: Fish Tacos Desert Soup Mole and they have my favorite coffee in the world. Lovely slight, natural coconut flavor. It's a a desert unto itself. This is the best, but you really should try Bolsa, Haddies, Hunky's etc....

Really great Mexican food, tasty and very fresh. Large selection of traditional and some unique dishes. Very friendly service.

We have enjoyed Vera Cruz, in Cedar Hill, Texas for a few years now. Not only do they have good Tex Mex but a good portion of their menu offerings are inspired El Salvadorian recipes. My absolute favorite are the Mole enchiladas. They have Mole chicken as well. The margaritas are great but be careful, although small, they pack a punch. Please drink responsibly!

Beautiful decor, decent service, average food. The salsa was very delicious with just the right kick. Judging by other previous reviews maybe we just chose the less tasty entrees. I had the almond crusted fish that I thought would be coated and pan fried. It was obviously deep fried and was a bit greasy. My date had a chicken dish with a spicy cream sauce. He also ordered an enchilada that he described as average tasting. I may give it another try and stick to more traditional Mexican dishes.

I went to a lot of tex-mex places here in Dallas, but I really wanted to try an authentic Mexican place. I was curious about the Central and South-American cuisine, so I went there after have been told that Veracruz is one of the few real Mexican restaurant in the big D. The area is really nice, Oak Cliff is a wonderful neighborhood and the place itself is really well set up. I ordered blue corn tortillas enchilada with mole and that was really good. Plus, the place is not expensive at all, therefore I'd really go there if I were you!

Was passing through Dallas and decided to stop for lunch. Great lunch. Had the Pipian enchiladas which were very good. My partner had the mole enchiladas which were even better. Their mole is homemade and delicious!!! Very good service in a casual atmosphere. Great Mexican music in the background.

I met a couple of friends here for dinner. I loved the cozy, casual atmosphere. Our server was sweet and charming. The food was great! The queso was tasty (yellow not white) I had the chicken enchiladas with molé. My friends had shredded chicken tacos and fish tacos. We all loved our entrees. The flan was flantastic too!

Always enjoy dinner at Veracruz, tried one of the special Shrimp plate which were very spicy, delicious. Yummy Margaritas!

Mole is my test dish at a Mexican restaurant. And Veracruz makes a terrific one. All our meals were great, and the margaritas were equally wonderful. Nice atmosphere too. Service was very friendly, and not intrusive. Will definitely be back.

A very nicely decorated Mexican restaurant, but I must say I have tasted better Mexican food in Dallas and will not be rushing back there.

Absolutely love their flautas. Homemade, spicey, and tasty. I love coming here. The location in perfect. Everyone in this place works hard. Great salsa and chips as well.

Being a group of English people on Vacation in Texas we wanted to try some authentic Mexican food, for no other reason other than the restaurant was just around the corner from our lodgings we decided to try it. When we went in we told our server we were new to this type of food. We were then given Tacos with different dips and more importantly to bowls of sauces they use on their food to try. This we found very useful as some of the food is quite hot and we were able to gauge the heat so as not to eat something to hot!! Once we knew what we were eating the food was very tasty and well cooked, the staff looked after us very well and made our visit very enjoyable. So if you not lucky enough to live in a area where there are Mexican Restaurants whether you are American or like us on a great tour of Texas give this place a try you won't be disappointed

While strolling around the district, the Veracruz Cafe appeared promising. Nice settings and a very complete menu going beyond basic Mexican food. As I had been on a two restaurants per day diet for most of the week, I settled for their Dulce y Verde salad. Only vegetables and fruit (baby spinash, tomatoes, mango and pecans) with a hint of grated cheese and a delicious balsamic vinaigrette. Efficient staff and reasonable prices.

Love the carne asada - delicious coffee! Very attentive servers. Great place for friends, family or business meals.

We found the Veracruz just by flipping through a local magazine. It lived up to the hype. It was a real treat.

In the Bishop Arts district, you expect something a little different. It could be the character of the district itself, or the cultural differences that you find in the food and shops in the area. This was our first visit to Veracruz and it was an interesting change from the usual Tex-Mex that you find in many of the Mexican restaurants. We had heard about, and came for, the fish dishes. I was not disappointed in the crispy fish tacos. It did not fall apart in your hands and there were plenty of pieces of very tasty fish inside. I did not care for the sauce so much, but that could be due to many years of the typical red Tex-Mex sauce. What I did enjoy very much was the frijole-style black beans. I think I could have made a meal from them. Service was excellent, and the prices very good considering the location. We would definitely go again.

During my visit to see friends in Dallas we ate at the Veracruz Cafe and had the most fabulous tasty Mexican food I've had since the last time I was in Dallas!! The interior of the restaurant is quite dark, but really suits the Mexican style and vibe and the service was great and was very friendly. We had frozen Margharita's to drink and chips and drips to share as starters, and then a variety of burritos and other similar dishes with black beans and delicious sauces. It was perfect comfort food and I would love to go back next time I'm in Dallas. Highly recommended and definitely worth checking it out.

Came here for brunch. Our waiter and the manager took good care of us. Very good food. Made our trip to bishop art district worth it. Kudos to Omar and pedro and young lady with curly hair.

They've expanded several times from their original small space in Bishop Arts. Truthfully, I think the food was better when it was a smaller place.

The staff really try hard, and the menu is varied and interesting. Chips and salsa are fresh and they give refills quickly. I had some sort of dark meat chicken dish and it was ok. Awesome michelada. Very authentic with outstanding service, but may need to tweak menu to get to next level in very trendy Bishop Arts area.

I had lunch here, not my first visit, and it was very good. Opted for lunch L8, Adobo de puerco, which is tender chunks of pork in an adobo pepper sauce. It came with refried black beans in a tortilla shell and thinly sliced fried potatoes. The pork didn't seem spicy but did have a cumulative effect. Service was very good and the atmosphere is electic and colorful. Good luck with the parking, or lack thereof, in the Bishop Arts District.

Love this place.

Went for girls day out and tried for first time. Loved it! Flautas, quesadillas, omelette with potatoes and other good stuff. Would definitely eat here again next time in BAD. Staff was great and didn't rush us. Nice decor too.

I was impressed with the variety of the menu! The service was one of the best I have had in a long time. The ambiance was very cozy and very relaxed. The flavor of the food was exquisite and the presentation was great! I would recommend this restaurant if you are searching for real Mexican food and want to have a great time! Oh and the Passion Margarita ... WOW!!!

There is nothing subtle about the decor of this cool little restaurant but there is a great deal of subtlety in the food. The crowd is eclectic and obviously happy to have discovered this little restaurant on the back side of the Bishop Arts District. The Chicken Pipian is well above average and the fish tacos are better than that. Top it all off with a fresh squeezed lemonade or adult beverage of your choice.

I went to the Cedar Hill location for lunch today and WOW, was I blown away! The service was outstanding and the food was amazing. Everything from the salsa to the queso to my entree'...amazing! I cannot recommend Veracruz enough, it is worth trying and then you will be hooked!

The food took a long time to arrive but was pretty good. I think it's better at the Cedar Hill location, though both venues are a little pricey for what you get. The service was very attentive, but it was a dead Monday night, so I don't know how it is when there are actually more customers than employees. They were very nice and even brought out complimentary flan for our anniversary. I probably won't go back since there really wasn't anything extra special or unique about it, but it's definitely worth trying if you're already in the neighborhood.

Brought there by a local for good Tex Mex. It did not disappoint!! Spicy Pork dish (Adobo De Puerco) and Enchalada's were great! Just the right amount of spicy. We had a special Margarita that was way better than the typical float of Grand Marnier, so don't miss that (I can't remember the name, but it will be obvious when you look over the drinks!)

My wife and I went to Veracruz Cafe recently for lunch. We went on New Year's Eve and the restaurant was not too busy. The restaurant is in the Bishop Arts District of Dallas which is trendy area of shops and restaurants. We started with the queso which was excellent and very large portion. I had the blue corn mole enchiladas and they were very tasty. I loved the mole. My wife had cactus salad and she said it was very good. The service was very attentive and friendly. The menu is not your typical Mexican or Tex-Mex - there is more of a very regional feel that includes multiple seafood dishes. It is very good choice if you like different flavors of Mexico.

Had late lunch there after business meeting. Since I'm addicted to guacamole:) I was expecting bigger portion. The rest of food was very good.

No loud music or mariachis A small intimate restaurant in the bishop arts district of dallas Ask to sit in the original restaurant area so you can see how tiny the place was when it opened.. Jarochitas (Mexican egg rolls) with the huasteco sauce are a good start Try the chicken pipian, chicken breast with a tasty pumpkin seed sauce Or the adobo de puerco, pork with a spicy chili pepper sauce The tamales are larger and wrapped in banana leaves so they are softer and have a different flavor from your typical Mexican tamale The arrecheritas (fajitas) are delicious. I like the pork or steak best. They also have some really good seafood offerings Cactus soup is tasty as well They make some pretty stout margaritas and mojitos too Absolutely one of my favorite dallas restaurants

Are you serious? Food that great for the cost! Fish to die for! Andres your wings were hidden! But I know your an angel! Service beyond words! And the chicken! Flan d vine! Atmosphere was magical!!! We must all wake up!! And demand this medium for dining out. I do! Gladly drive from Ft. Worth to Dallas for this.

Veracruz Cafe specializes in food from the interior of Mexico which is very good, but also offers a limited selection of Tex-Mex food. My favorite dish without a doubt is their Chicken Mole, which is probably the best in Dallas. Veracruz Cafe is a relatively small place in a funky old building in the Bishop Arts District, so groups of more than four adults is pushing your luck.

Great space, very good dishes, and solid service make this a "can't-miss" place to dine with friends.

Without going into petty and spiteful detail, everything that could have been wrong, was wrong. I love the Cedar Hill location (10/10), which made it especially disappointing. If you're in OC and want Tex-Mex, hit either Herrera's or Gonzalez'. If you're craving the fusion dishes here, make the 12 minute drive to Cedar Hill.

Eaten here twice and both times it was great. Good food, good service, great location. Only negative is they don't have sweet tea.

I am not sure what it is i did not like but it just felt off a little. The drinks were great the food was good but it did not ring my bell.

We enjoyed sitting out on the street on a really nice day! I had the chicken mole -- it was wonderful! And the margaritas were really good, too!

We had a great dinner on our last night in Dallas. The staff were friendly and helpful. Everything was delicious from drinks to dessert. We had the Chille Rellano and blue corn enchiladas. Flan for dessert was delicious and very pretty.

You have to try the queso with chorizo when you go to Veracruz. Then the enchis. It is Mexican/Mexican food - not Tex Mex. But it is still wonderful

This was our first stop on a food tour, and I had to keep myself from eating too much since we had 4 more stops to make! We had appetizers and margaritas. The Jarochitas (Mexican egg rolls - with chicken, cheeses and spinach) were delicious and the sauce with them (Crema Hausteca) was so good that I asked if they bottled and sold it (they don't). The Pipian chicken was moist and the red sauce on it was delicious. The chips were crispy and tasty and the salsa was delicious and not too spicy. Several people in our party enjoyed margaritas - the pomegranate and Lulo (?) got good ratings. The walls and ceilings have some really cool features and the atmosphere is fun.

Seriously, they serve the best Chicken Mole enchiladas I've ever tasted. I've brought many friends and chefs here and everyone says the same thing. Try their pumpkin seed dishes too.

Food was fantastic, Limeades were outstanding and free refills! Service was excellent. I will be going back several times!

When this place was small we loved it. Then it expanded and became like every other big bad TexMex place. From the loud and drunk patrons to being seated next to the kitchen (despite our being a party of eight that made reservations 3 weeks in advance) to dishes served to the wrong people to weak drinks, this was meal run amok. They need to close and start over but too many people from small towns with no standards for great dining enjoy the place. We don't anymore.

Big menu, all well-executed. Really good mole. Salsa is addictive. Lots of seafood dishes, echoing Veracruz roots. Highly highly recommend. As a bonus, best margarita in town IMO.

This was our second trip to Veracruz and once again it was amazing. The food is very traditional Mexican not Tex-Mex so some of the cooking techniques are little different and some of the flavors a little more exotic but it's one o the best Mexican Restaurants we've ever been to. We started off with "Mexican Eggrolls" that were crazy good. The flour tortillas were fried perfectly and were filled with juicy chicken, spinach and cheese. My entree was a thin sliced sirloin steak cooked to perfection with sautéed onions and a grilled plantain on top along with two blue corn chicken enchiladas that were incredibly tasty. My wife had the chicken mole which consisted of a chicken breast smothered in very traditional mole sauce with perfectly cooked rice and sautéed vegetables. The beers were served ice cold and the Flan we had for dessert lasted all of two seconds. It was so rich and creamy we will be sure to order it next time too.

I've been to the Cedar Hill location many times. Every item I've gotten off the menu is great, to die for even! Highlights include Mayan Chicken Breast, Lomo Norteño, Carne Asada Veracruzana!

This is not a Tex-Mex place, but rather, its menu highlights food with unique spices and sauces that are indigenous to Mexico and the Caribbean. Brunch is particularly interesting. The ambiance is quiet but the walls are colorful, as are the paintings from a local artist.

Located in the Bishops Arts District, a charming enclave of trendy shops and restaurants in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas, this is true Mexican food. Not the Tex Mex that many of us may assume is Mexican, but the coastal cuisine of Vera Cruz and it's vicinity. The food, which tilts heavily toward seafood, is excellent, the spices noticeable - but not so "hot" as to be off putting, and the atmosphere quite welcoming. Just as in Mexico, don't be in a hurry. Even if not busy, the service is slow by American standards, and the wait staff, while seemingly very busy, and quite attentive, don't seem to be terribly efficient. Our drinks were constantly refreshed (tea, and it was quite nice, clearly not instant), and the waiter checked up on us several times during the meal. But it did take quite a bit to get our order, our food, and our check. Worth it? Absolutely. I'd return again in a heartbeat!

I must admit, I'm slow to try new Mexican places in this city, as I've got my favorites and well... I'm stubborn. Needless to say, I'm glad I ventured down to Veracruz because I've never had blue corn enchiladas like these. They were divine. I opted for the sour cream version, and heard the mole ones were spectacular from friends. It was a great experience and well worth venturing out!

We have been coming here for years before BA was popular when Veracruz was tiny. We love Pescado Xanath. We've always parked in the lot next to Veracruz but they changed it to valet parking only. We were able to park on the street 2 times but this last Saturday, no luck, so we went to the shopping center where Cafer Brazil is. There were plenty of spaces there (there are 2 other businesses but they were closed at that time) Our plan was to eat at Veracruz and have coffee and dessert at C Brazil. So, we ate at Veracruz and head back to C Brazil, My husband says let's put the leftover in the trunk first, well our car was gone! We asked inside and they told us they are very aggresive about towing and to call the # on the wall outside. When our friend came to take us to the tow place we exited on the other side of the shopping center and it had a big sign about not parking there. There was no sign like that from the side that we entered. We had to pay $164 to get our car back. Obviously, we didn't have dessert and it ruined the evening. We've been coming to Bishop arts for years but We're NEVER going back to Bishop Arts unless they build parking lots or fix the parking problem.

My husband and I went to the Veracruz Cafe in Dallas for dinner using a groupon, and we were so impressed with the service and the quality of the food. From the moment we walked in the door, every person who greated us was friendly and helpful. The server's recommendations were terrific. The service was as quick as possible for food that is cooked fresh and to-order, and not sitting under a heat lamp. Our water glasses were kept refilled, which we appreciated on a hot July evening. The salsa has a garlic base to it, and is wonderful. Be sure to save room for the Tres Leches Cake. Never had it with chocolate instead of fruit, but it was great! We will definitely be going back to this restaurant!

We enjoyed our lunch tacos and received very fast service. The sauce for my fish tacos was very tasty. I would definitely order again.

We came here on a Sunday night for dinner. This is a great location in the Bishop Arts District in a historic building. Although we were seated immediately, it took a good while to get served and even longer to get our food - over 45 minutes. The food was worth the wait; enchiladas, burritos and a great cactus salad. The server was apologetic and we had the time, so the dinner was enjoyable.

Love this place! We had dinner with friends and I am glad that I had someone who could translate the specifics of each entree. Very authentic, very good ambience. If you like a unique experience, I would suggest you make a reservation soon!

I had Ubereats deliver this food, so this review is strictly on the food. The food was excellent, I ordered a Gimmi a Chimi it was huge and stuffed with the best flavored fajita meat ever. It was covered in mouthwatering queso. Did I mention it was HUGE? The rice & beans we great too. You must try the ‘bottle caps’ they are amazing!!! The food was seriously perfect, even though it was delivered by Uber. A must try 😊

Bishop Arts District, always hip and cool! A great place for families, couples, or friends. We used a Groupon and it was our first time to eat at Veracruz Cafe. Great service, Miguel made sure our chips and water were filled. We had the mango margarita, the (Jarochitas) Mexican egg-roll appetizer and a meal called the El Borracho del Pueblo (Town Drunk). Everything was delicious. A great flavor! Food was great as well as the service. Always an adventure in the Bishop Arts District! Parking can be difficult. It may be easier to use the valet parking.

Ate there on Valentines Day and thoroughly enjoyed everything. The almond-encrusted oysters were exceptionally delicious. Service was excellent also

Based upon prior TripAdvisor reviews, we ventured into Veracruz early on a Saturday evening, before the bigger crowds showed up, and oh so glad we did. Veracruz received a 2014 Certificate of Excellence and, based upon our meal experience, deserves the same level of recognition again. Fresh warm corn chips (blue and regular) and two kinds of salsa (medium and hot) show up even before your bottom is fixed in the seat, followed immediately with ice water. The spicy salsa, if you can manage it, has a robust flavor -- make sure you have a margarita or beer handy to douse the "flames" in your mouth. Speaking of margaritas, Veracruz offers a very nice assortment of tequilas, and they are quite generous with the pours. The 12 oz margarita is fairly priced and well made. I ordered Montezuma's fish tacos, which came just jam packed with tasty grilled white in fresh blue corn tortilla shells. Best fish tacos I've had anywhere! Could hardly finish all three, accompanied by a very nice scoop of Mexican rice and refried black beans in a turquoise colored tortilla shell. The beans were also fabulous! If you go early, you will encounter families with young children who will likely be distracting, that is if you're looking for a more romantic setting. Otherwise we liked the atmosphere and welcomed the friendly interaction with our waiter. We had no room for dessert but based upon prior reviews, when we mentioned the tres leches cake, our waiter smartly suggested we consider taking home a piece to go. Great idea, and two hours later, we thoroughly enjoyed a split portion which was just as fresh tasting as it would have been in the restaurant. Can't wait to return to try another one of many, many options available on their diverse, interesting menu. Kudos Veracruz!

The food was INCREDIBLE! Probably the best tex-mex I've had. The service was just as good as the food, our waiter was friendly and attentive. You'll love the block where the restaurant is too! Looks very pretty at night.

Stopped in for a cocktail, coming back for the food that looked awesome as it passed by us. Very cool spot, cozy, warm and friendly service. Have some chips and salsa at the bar, and just leave the day behind you. Fair prices, nice people, and a clean comfortable atmosphere. Loved our visit here

Love going to Veracruz Cafe for authentic interior Mexican food, although they serve a little Tex-Mex to satisfy all diners. Many great dishes, and their Chicken Mole is arguably the best in Dallas. (Fernando’s mole is the other contender.) Strolling around the Bishop Arts District is fun too but parking is tight so consider Uber or Lyft.

I ate at Veracruz in Oak Cliff with my boyfriend during our recent trip to Dallas. We had a nice, leisurely lunch in this cute spot. The ambiance of the restaurant is very cool. It's vibrant and colorful and has some beautiful art decorating the walls. I had the Mole Enchilada lunch special. It came with rice and some black beans. The inside of the enchilada was very good, with tender chicken and a great spice. The mole sauce was a little sweet for my taste and didn't have as much chile flavor as I would have wanted. But it was still a very tasty dish. My boyfriend had the Jalapa-style Chile Relleno and his was very good. Both of our choices were also a nice lunch portion so we didn't leave stuffed. I also had a margarita and it was strong enough to give me a good mid-afternoon mini-buzz. We would happily come back again.

I eat here a lot, so I've had many different dishes. The fish tacos are my favorite and the mushroom queso flameado is over the top good. Service can be spotty, but seems to be much more consistent lately.

Fast service, great food and very friendly staff. They attentive but not bothersome. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

I don't understand why this place is so small. This is a great place to eat and very unique (Aztec, Mayan food). I recommend eating: El Borracho del Pueblo.

Cool Mexican hacienda style restaurant offering great food and excellent service! I have to say the girls were amazing with us and the coconut flavored coffee was delicious. Try Mi Tio's Favorite for breakfast it's a delicious dish with a pork tamale, eggs, and beans. Don't forget to ask for the serano salsa it's delicious!!!!

Visiting our son's family in Dallas they took us for a good Mexican Lunch. HONESTLY: the best Mexican food I have had in over 30 years in the USA. Not TexMex, not CalMex, not Noveau Mexican cuisine. Good simple Mexican cuisine with "no melted cheddar cheese on everything"!!!!! We will be back before we return to NJ. By the way, our kids, my wife and I are born Mexicans,

One of my best friends favorite restaurant. I am more simple minded for Tex Mex and this is not Tex Mex. Food was good and the service was great. Atmosphere is also great - but boring old me still likes regular Tex Mex better. I still recommend for those that like your food a bit out of the box.

good food. good people. intimate. good date place.

Great latin food with a different flare. The atmosphere is unique and enjoyable. A friend recommended this restraunt to me. I really enjoyed it.

Pleasant surprise in The Bishop Arts District. Quaint, cozy, relaxing, attentive & delicious!!! We had the cerviche tostadas & the tamales & they were both amazing!!

Everything we had was great. I love the fresh made chips. The salsa was spicy but great. We had their margaritas and unlike many places they did not spare the tequila.

The Shrimp: great. The steak covered in cheese and sauces: Great. What more can I say. Great servers.

Presentation & taste of food was excellent. Generous portions. Only a few other customers there, but service staff just couldn't get it together. Too long a wait to take order. After flagging down our waitress that we were finished, it took 3 trips to get check & had to go back next day for my chargecard.

The staff here at Veracruz Cafe are friendly, informative and accommodating! You literally had your basket of chips swept away and replaced with a fresh basket before you even ate the last chip. The servers were super accommodating to my dairy allergy and the food was excellent and house made. No fast food Mexican here! The portion sizes were perfect; not too big but large enough for myself and my mom to split a meal. Highly recommend coming here!

I've been to Veracruz for lunch a few times. They aren't that busy at lunch so you can usually get right it. It is in the Bishop Arts district so sometimes you have to look a little for parking but it's never too bad. The food is always delicious & it's different than other tex-mex places in Dallas if you're looking for a change.

Not Tex-Mex. the food here was among the best I've ever had. The margueritas were great. We were a party of 4 and everyone's dish was quite delicious. Small intimate atmosphere, near the dlink bus stop too!

We've had lunch here a couple of times when visiting relatives who live in Oak Cliff. Last time we had a toddler along. The restaurant has a large area somewhat separate from the main dining area which they let us take over so the little one could make all the noise she wanted. The food is very good with mostly interior Mexico dishes and some "Veratex" choices. Nice decor, friendly staff and reasonable prices.

Went with my sister and brother-in-law from out of town. They always like to check out privately owned, different restaurants. He had beer, my sis had a mango margarita, I had a passion fruit margaritas--great drinks! Chips were fabulous--crisp, not thick, not salty. Every gets your own small salsa bowl which is mild. Sis want hot so they bought her a different salsa that was HOT! The 3 of us shared the Cactus Salad of the Desert with gerilled chicken--the pieces of cactus and mango added a great taste as did the house dressing. Then we shared one of the specials--a grillled poblano pepper (not at all hot) filled with lean ground beef, potatoes, apples and topped with a pecan cream sauce with a side of refried b;lack beans and rice--this was to die for!!! Service was attentive but not intrusive from the minute we walked in until we left. Wait staff knew the menu and could describe flavors. These 2 dishes were enough for 3 people. Great service, fabulous food! We would have tried their mole but were too full.

This place is great for Veracruz style Seafood. Their prices are pricey but worth every penny. Their dishes are superb!!!!
Margaritas
One of the best margaritas in town. Every dish we had was good. My chili relleno was fabulous. My daughter had a shrimp quesadilla,my son in law had fajitas, and my sister had gorditas. Everyone was happy with their meal.
