Good place for Father's Day brunch

By SueBlue962 |

We selected this restaurant because the brunch menu looked good and they took reservations. My husband and I are long passed the stage of waiting around and having multiple drinks for an hour to dine anywhere. We were seated immediately after our entire party had arrived. I know it was a holiday and they want to seat as many people as possible, but our bottoms had not even hit our chairs when the waiter asked if we were ready to order. A drink? our meal? Both?? He started off brusque and pushy, but eventually got the hint that we were not going to be rushed and settled down. Since our table was literally at the front entrance, we noticed the professionalism of the hostess and owner (?), but we were also very warm ( turn on the AC please) and bothered by people overcrowding the bar waiting for their tables. The food was very good and the brunch choices had something for everyone. Including 2 hour unlimited drinks for $19.95. We did not partake as there was no way we would be there that long at the pace we were being served. And dessert was delicious.

Amazing service and cuisine

By SomebodyFlyAssTT |

I’m so upset that I didn’t get any photos. They have bottomless mimosas for a hour (for $25) and immaculate service, if felt like we had two servers because 2 people checked on our table. The food was also very tasty 10/10

Molto bene!

Dining at Verde on Smith was a very pleasant experience. Street parking is plentiful. You need to use the Munimeter before 7pm but after that it is free! The menu had a nice selection of appetizers, salads and entrees. The caprese salad had delicious mozzarella which was very fresh. The seafood salad appetizer was delicious and could be eaten as a main course. The octopus and calamari were extremely tender, cooked just right. The pastas were cooked to perfection especially the orecchieti with spinach and speck. We tried 2 desserts and they were served with ice cream and were very generous portions. They will also accommodate special dietary requests. Prices seem comparable to other Italian restaurants. With a beautiful summer breeze the setting was great! There is a back garden which looks delightful! try it some time... Buon appetito!

Everything was wonderful

The service was amazing and friendly and charming. We love this place. Outstanding food and service. Wonderful. Also, their backyard patio was so beautiful and comfortable that I could have sat there all day.

Nice neighborhood spot

By BigEandKenna |

We ate here on a Wednesday evening around 6 and got right in. Friendly staff sat us by the front window. Service was spot on and they have a well rounded menu so everyone should be able to find something for their liking. The fresh mozzarella and tomato was very good. My son ordered the lobster fri diablo and yum yum'd it all night. My veal was a little tough, hence the "very good" rating instead of excellent. 3 bar drinks, one appetizer, three main courses, three coffees and one shared desert came to $130 plus tip. Not to bad for an almost downtown restaurant.

Great food and atmosphere

By kitty567 |

We have been wanting to go to this place since 2011, but for some reason have been passing it by all this time. Hey, its NYC, there are a lot of dining options!!! Finally, 4 years later, we had an early dinner on a Saturday. It was relaxed atmosphere, the decor is great, the staff is attentive, and the food is really good. It is a bit on the pricey side (2 meals and drinks = $70) but we packed some of the dinner to go, which made for a small, tasty dinner the following day. Definitely would come back here!

Great Brunch!

Took my daughter and her friends here for brunch, was not disappointed!! Great price for mimosas or Bellini's and breakfast was wonderful! Recommend the Eggs Benedict.

Tasty

I became a regular at this restaurant. I tried a variety of meals and nothing was disappointing. Everything was fresh and they bring extra bread when ever I ask.

A delightful experience

By Gerardo R |

Nice cozy restaurant with delicious food... Order for appetizer the "Burrata" and the entree "Lobster".... Lovely place with good vibe...

Worth the visit even with the noise.

By Stefan L |

We went early to avoid the crowd (6PM), by the time we were finished all tables were full. Smith Street in Brooklyn is a happening street with 6 or 7 restaurants on every block for about 6 blocks. Plenty of dining choises. Two of us had the salmon. It was served with couscous and broccoli rabe, spiceing was a little salty but good. Penne vodka was done al dente as it should be. The service was good and waiter was attentive. 2 glasses of wine, 4 entrées and 2 coffees $58 + tip. We will be going again.

Delightful ambience and food.

By Debravt |

Being of Italian descent, I often compare the quality of Italian restaurant food to my own personal experiences with home cooking. We were so pleased with the appetizers of baked clams, fresh seafood salad, and salad nicoise. My family thoroughly enjoyed the fra divolo, clam, and marinara sauces with pasta The chicken and risotto was superb. This was topped off with fine white wine. We will definitely return.

VERDE on Smith

We enjoyed a delicious meal at Verde on Smith. The food is very good. We started with Baked Clams, Portobello Muchrooms Salad and Buratta Prosciutto which was really tasty, spesially the Baked Clams and Portobello Salad. For dinner we got the Lobster Fradiavolo one of the specials of the day, grilled Salmon with spinach, Lamb Shank and Crispy Gnocchi. OMG! Everything was so delicious!!!! Lamb is so tender, salmon is sooo good, lobster fradiavolo amazing, Gnocchi ohhh forget it, it is best in my life!!!!! Service was wonderful!!! I love love love this place, nice music, gorgeous outdoor seating, good service and delicious food and drinks!!!!!!!! Definitely will come back!!!!! I highly recommend checking it out!

Great value! Excellent food!

Sunday Brunch

By LisaD |

Brunch with friends and family. We walked in without reservations. Verde has a lovely patio in the back for alfresco dining. We decided to eat inside. If is a narrow restaurant but the food was excellent.

Great food fabulous brunch.

By Theresa V |

I just loved everything. The food the staff ,it was a fabulous brunch. We had the spaghetti carbonara and the steak and eggs. Their homemade cheese cake is to die for and worth every delicious bite. I will definitely return.

Lovely place

By Daria B |

Love this place! If you wanna have a relaxing dinner with amazing Italian food or you just want to hang out with friends while having amazing oysters (they are surprisingly big and very fresh for this price, love it!) and glass of wine. If you have one of these reason I totally recommend you to visit Verde on Smith. Staff is very friendly, chef is the best! I'm in love with their seafood (seafood salad, lobster and baked clams were amazing!!!). Definitely gonna come back soon. Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention about $19 unlimited drinks for 2 hours on weekend! That's a really good deal!

overall a wonderful evening

Bartender + drinks and service staff great Appetizers and desserts fabulous A bit of a let down with main courses Would return but order differently

A Great Discovery

By wanderlustcrazy2 |

After searching online for a nice restaurant for an early dinner prior to a weekday evening business event in an unfamiliar neighborhood, we went to Verde on Smith based on its menu choices and the positive reviews on this site. We arrived at 5:30 and it was fairly empty, but by the time we left, it had filled up enough for a weeknight. Food was deliciously seasoned and presented very nicely. Service was attentive and efficient. It is one of the more attractive looking restaurants along this commercial Smith Street although one cannot get the full effect from the exterior. We noted an extensive wine list although we did not partake. Two entrees we ordered were Pappardelle with Beef Ragout and Chicken Florentine. Both were very tasty and portion size was substantial. We noticed there were some “regulars” there since they were known by staff. Although we will not returning to this area in the near future, and we don’t usually go out of the way just to dine, we were happy we made this great choice and got to experience what locals enjoy in their neighborhood.

OK Place for Brunch

By smacthayer |

A friend who lives in the neighborhood recommended this place for a Sunday brunch for nine of us. We arrived right as they opened and we were seated in the back patio, which was very pleasant and quiet and we were able to talk easily. The food was just OK - nothing special but reasonably priced and the service was good. I was interested to read the reviews on Tripadvisor as they ranged wildly from raves to extremely negative. Hard to believe they were talking about the same place.

Food is good, Management needs to treat people better

By Andrew C |

We had a very nice brunch today at verde. Everything we ate was tasty and well prepared. My only complaint is that we tried to use 25 dollar restaurant.com voucher to pay a small portion of a much larger bill but was refused by management. Although the voucher claimed no hourly restrictions, the manager claimed it was good for dinner only. We expect better service and accommodation over a measly 25 dollar voucher. I would not return here or recommend Verde until such time as management changes their attitude.

Excellent food and service

By David J |

Great restaurant reasonable priced, excellent selection, willing to make any changes requested on ordered dishes. Had the Lobster Fra Diablo, excellent!!

We REALLY loved this place!

By JaimeBrooklyn |

On Friday 4 of my friends and I went to Verde for the first time. We are really happy we chose this restaurant. They had a great diversified menu and the atmosphere was excellent. Our server was very informed and did not bother us too much. The owner was sweet and interacted with us...and the food was really good. I had penne vodka with grilled chicken and it was perfect. The added chicken was just perfect. Thin and seasoned/smoky flavor. The wine selection was very good and desserts was great. I will definitely go back with my boyfriend as I keep raving about the food for the past 2 days.

Wonderful local restaurant offers good food & value

By German B |

We love supporting local businesses and one such treasure is Verde On Smith. We came for Valentine's Day dinner and were not disappointed. They have a full bar and we enjoyed some well made cocktails first. Their baked clams oreganata and zucchini fritters were very fresh and just the right amount of breadcrumbs. Our main courses were the lobster feast and chicken parm, both outstanding! For dessert, we couldn't decide between the tiramisu and the cannoli, so we had both. What a great finish to the meal! We're glad to have this great dining option nearby!

Awesome experience

By pfra |

We tried this restaurant for the first time and were so pleased The waiter Hector was so helpful pleasant and his recommendations were spot on The special pasta with shrimp and pesto was one of the best I have had even n Italy My fish was perfect My husband also raved about his choices We will definitely be returning to try more delicious food

Lovely

By MrsBrobbey |

Had dinner last night here with my husband. We loved this place. Food was delicious and the service was great. The portions are a good size. We had the lamb shank and the spaghetti w/ clams- both delish. We also enjoyed the interior design of the restaurant; well done. Go and enjoy! Have a glass of moscato too (one of the best I've had) cheers.

Hidden treasure in my backyard!!

By Do4self69 |

My neighbor and I wanted to have brunch but didn't want the typical IHOP food. Verde on Smith is the perfect spot! It is beautifully decorated with open brick, hardwood floors and soft lighting.. They also have outdoor seating in the front and a more private area in the back... The food is amazing!!! I ordered the steak and eggs and can't get enough!! I've tried to find out how they make their eggs because they are just amazing!! The Bellini and mimosa's aren't bad either lol Great place for get-together and family time

Horrible Managerial Attitude and Experience

By Sarah L |

I made a reservation for this place for Sept. 15, for 13 people, and requested outside seating. I called a few days before to confirm the reservation and outdoor seating. 30 minutes before we arrive I get a text from the restaurant asking to confirm our reservation. As I was on the subway, I got the chance to answer FIVE MINUTES later. The manager then responded saying he had given our table to someone else. When we arrived at 2 for our scheduled reservation, the manager made us wait for thirty minutes. Then proceeded to sit us at a table not for 13 AND inside. I asked why we weren’t outside and why we had to wait thirty minutes and the manager responded with “you can wait another twenty minutes if you want to sit outside”. As someone who works as a server and has been a hostess, this treatment of customers with a large table and confirmed reservation was in all honesty BS. If it wasn’t my birthday I would have left and gone somewhere else. Not respecting our reservation and being rude because they messed up was absolutely appalling and I am shocked that that man is a legitimate manager. 0/10 do not recommend at all. I wish there was someone above a manager there to speak to because I was absolutely appalled.

Serivce and Food is Fabulous!

By rollerbladerny |

I stumbled into this place after a flight from Florida for business. I sat at the bar because I was by myself and had the most wonderful beef carpaccio and small lasagna. Daria, the bartender from Siberia was terrific and the owner (who is actually from Italy) was very welcoming. When my husband arrived on Saturday for the weekend, we went back for dinner with another couple. He loved the ribeye and the red wine. Fabulous evening.

This is the kind of service I expect

By gliding_along |

We wanted to have dinner, but not indoors, and we were inclined to have Italian food. This was such a find! This place is lucky enough to have two outdoor areas, one up front essentially where park cars would otherwise be; the other is in the back. We chose the back which has a retractable canopy. I must begin with the greeting that we received. The owner or manager was standing at the door greeting us as we arrived. I truly nice touch reminiscent of little Italy in Manhattan where that is customary. We were seated an server promptly brought over a lovely crostini, compliments of the house. It's the little things like that that make a guess feel welcome. The wine menu was perfect, no big sticker shock there. Since everybody has their own opinion about food, I will not itemize each dish and what I thought, but I will only say that they were thoughtfully prepared and delicious. As I said, I think VOS was an amazing find. I intend to go back and bring other friends.

Pasta & Salad

By William C B |

We had the clam/wine sauce with spaghetti and the mussels/red sauce with linguini and split a spinach, gorgonzola, fig balsamic salad. All three excellent. House made pasta, all fresh ingredients. Would go again and recommend.

Awesome Short Ribs

By Ted M |

We went by train to Brooklyn for dinner so we could walk back across the Brooklyn Bridge at night. Got off the train at Jay Street. Jay connects to Smith so we started down Smith looking for something appealing. Eventually arrived at Verde and its street appeal won us over some other options. Long narrow room with exposed brick wall. Welcomed immediately, got the last table for 4. The waiter listed several specials plus the interesting menu. Ordered a bottle of wine (prices reasonable) and set about deciding on appetizers and mains. Two orders of the Beet and Leeks were excellent. The daily special Portobello with greens was served warm and had lots of flavour. The Shrimps were just OK. For mains we had two orders of the special Short Ribs in red wine with a side of vegetables. Slow cooked fall off the bone (one long bone) tender meat with a mushroom sauce loaded with rich flavour - so delicious and lots of fresh vegetables. The other two orders were the Spaghetti with Scallops and Shrimp. Unfortunately the scallops were not fresh and a bit chewy. All in all we had a pleasant meal with god service. Washroom clean, credit cards accepted.

Wonderful Bruch

Great brunch menu with a good balance of sweet and savory. Extensive Benedict offerings. Quality ingredients, good service with outdoor patio as well as outdoor curb seating.

Great food - Plenty of specials

By BNS1313 |

Everyone in our party of four enjoyed their meal. Service was very good and given NY prices, we felt it was on the more reasonable side.

A Very Nice Surprise!

By Christine K |

We met family for drinks in Brooklyn and then decided to stay for dinner. Verde was only a few doors down from the pub we were at so we picked it for proximity, not reputation. I wasn't expecting to be "wowed" but everything, from the service to the food was very good. The Baked Clams were fresh and very nicely seasoned. Seafood Salad is a favorite of my husband. He orders it whenever he sees it on a menu and he was not disappointed. For our main meals, two of us ordered the Sliced Filet Mignon over Arugula. I expected a small portion based on the very reasonable price. It was cooked to perfection and neither of us were able to finish it! The House-made Lasagna (a special) was also really good as were the Veal Piccata and the Spaghetti with Scallops & Shrimp. We didn't have dessert but the cappuccinos were frothy, large and freshly brewed. We don't get to Brooklyn often but would definitely go back just for another visit to Verde.

Just ok

By LAFAMILLEG11231 |

Really crowded and crazy loud for brunch. I had eggs benedict the hollandaise sauce was a bit strange kinda stuck to the egg didn't drip like a sauce should. Also used an open table gift card from accumulating points, they had no clue how to use it or what it was.

Fancy brunch

By Marielawall3 |

Really nice abiance. The wait was too long for cafe luluc so we stumbled into this cute restaurant for our Sunday brunch. The food was delish. Best french toast around and the chicken sandwich was good. Limited Brunch menu. But it was still good.

Kinda want to give it better review, but...

By njcycle |

Comfortable, quiet with food that's OK. It doesn't miss the mark, but it doesn't aim that high. Fried gnocchi? $24 Martini? Some things not to like.

Hidden Gem

By 20nout1 |

One of the best places I've been to in awhile. The food was outstanding and the service followed suit. Great little quite place, drinks were on point. A must try!!!!! I will go back over and over again.

NEIGHBORHOOD RELIABLE

By pandaladykk |

Been here twice for dinner. Food is consistently good, serving known Italian dishes, with a twist. Service is good without being intrusive. Warm atmosphere, with owner usually on premises and in the dining room. Try the lasagnette appetizer. It has become my neighborhood"go-to" Italian restaurant.

Great Local Restaurant

By NYCborn1944 |

If you live in Brooklyn Heights or the surrounding areas and are looking for a good little restaurant, try Verde on Smith Street. It's a good Italian style eatery with delicious specials all week. The staff is very friendly and the service is excellent. The food ranges from pasta to fish with chicken in the middle. My favorite fish is the Salmon. It comes with a special mixture of broccoli rabe and couscous that is unique and very tasty. The wine list is very good and fits in well with the food that is served. It's a comfortable place with a friendly atmosphere in the middle of the new Smith Street restaurant rival. Go there and enjoy yourself!

Still one of Brooklyn's Best Restaurants

By NYCborn1944 |

We have been going to Verde's on Smith Street off and on for many months since my last review. It still is one of the best restaurants on Smith Street in the Brooklyn Heights area. The food is outstanding and the service is excellent as always. The staff remembers us and serves us our standard wine without hesitation. They always ask if we want wine but we never have to tell them which one. Prices are a little steep but well worth the cost. My favorite is still the pappadella in a beef ragu but the salmon is just as memorable. If you are looking for an Italian style restaurant with fantastic food, go to Verde's!

Good not great

By LAFAMILLEG11231 |

Decent food, been awhile since I've been back. Consistent food but a bit high in price for the quality. Also made reservation on opentable and redeemed points for gift card, even though they had the logo of opentable all over the register the staff kept telling me they are not associated with opentable and did not want to accept my giftcard. Had to actually put opentable on the phone with them to explain the process. Should take time to train staff better, even though they told me the owner told them they werent affifliated with opentable which is impossible if i made my reservation on the site.

We will be back!!!

By Olga S |

Took my boyfriend for his Bday, and will definitely be back with friends and family! The food was supreme, as was the service. Very cozy environment. The staff was awesome, and super friendly! Thank you, Verde!

Great Brunch Spot

By Foodie Sunny ☀️ |

Brought family for a Friday morning Brunch. Service was great and food as well. French Toast, Crepes and Pancakes were table favorites. They serve breakfast and lunch. Nice quaint place.

very nice

By Lino S |

Went here for dinner i was very happy with food and service. Had lobster and filet mignion. Desert was excellent as was the wine

A fab surprise!

By BostonJake |

Went later on mother's day and got the only open table though most were finishing up. A patron catching a smokeon the street told us it was excellent as we scanned the menu outside and we took her recommendation - much to our delight. The four of us (mom & dad, kids in late 20's) are picky foodies who have travelled extensively in Italy. We loved Verde and will return. Excellent steamed mussels and an A++ eggplant apps. Main dishes were also excellent as we're the wines. The owner apologized for the kitchen being worn out from a busy mothers day but we did not find the food lacking at all. We'll be back and highly recommend it.

Pleasant surprise

By MaryAnne K |

Delicious. Lovely. Tasteful. We ordered the lobster la Diablo ......fabuloso!!!!! Small and quaint. Prosecco was very nice. There were so many items available beyond the menu, that it was hard to keep them straight when the waiter recited them, but he happily repeated it all. Recommended.

Fabulous brunch

By Isabelle K |

There's no shortage of brunches in Brooklyn but this must be one of the best. The French toast, steak and eggs and salade Nicoise are all to die for. Even better thanks to the bottomless bellinis and mimosas AND the lovely patio. I'll definitely be back!

A lovely surprise

By Cay Wan |

Stumbled upon the place and ended up having such a wonderful time. Delicious food and drinks, served by such kind waiters. Got the tasty Linguine with Seared Tuna, with a fruity white sangria. Perfect summer dinner. Highly recommend and plan on going again!

Decent

By LAFAMILLEG11231 |

Not bad, nice place with friendly service and decent food. But also nothing to brag about. Busy for brunch

Average yet pricey

By BFAT |

Went for dinner with a small group of friends. Across the board the food was good but not stellar compared to the reviews we've read on the place. If the food was great the rating would be great. Unfortunately, for the price, the food was not 5 star. The restaurant is nicely designed, plus there's an outdoor patio in the back for those beautiful weather days. I've heard they have a great Sunday brunch. Maybe worth trying on a nice sunny day.

Brunch for a Bunch

By powel6 |

We had a reservation for 8 for Sunday Brunch and were seated promptly. We ordered the two hour drink deal for $16 each which was a decent deal if you were having more than two drinks. We were. We often scour NYC for a great "bottomless" brunch place but often feel we are served very weak drinks. Here there is no skimping so watch yourself! The food was also delicious. Our party tried many variations of eggs benedict, sausage and broccoli rabe sandwich, french toast, etc., and our very loud group got very quiet while we savored our food. The place is packed and we did eventually wear out our welcome and were reminded that there were people waiting for our table. We stayed over two hours and left happily! Great place. We will be back!

Great Brunch!

By Christine S |

There are so many brunch options in NY it's hard to distinguish what's a worthy stop for some scrambled eggs and potatoes. Fortunately Verde was a great choice for a brunch with family and friends. In particular I loved my ricotta and pepper omelette. The service was prompt and accommodating when I asked to be seated inside instead of in the back patio, which I'm sure is a nice experience on a cooler day. Would definitely return.

Friendly, Neighborhood Southern Italian

By Peter L |

A lovely addition to Smith St. Wonderfully inventive Italian dishes that are fresh tasting and moderately priced. The Lobster Plate is a bargain, and you must try the Eggplant Lasagnette appetizer. The Pastas are also delicious. The small wine list has mostly reasonably-priced Italian standards that compliment the food. Also several wines by the glass. The owner is very gracious and accommodating. This place is a keeper.

Brunch with unlimited Bellinis & Mimosas

By Judy N |

Such a great place, friendly staff and atmosphere, food was on point I had the steak and eggs and the unlimited raspberry Bellinis which I had were so good and a little too good because I got drunk hahaha which rarely happens at unlimited bottomless brunch for me!!! Check this place out and you won’t be disappointed

Great Brunch for a reasonable price.

By Arthur225NYC |

Had the Kobe hamburger with swiss, was amazing! Cost a little over $15.00. For an additional 16.95 you get unlimited mimosa's, etc for 2 hours. Great place to go with a friend or a group.

Favorite place

By canebrook |

Always amazed by how uncrowded this place is, considering the great food and the busy street. So especially good for a quiet conversation.

Not Just Another Italian Restaurant

By JillJill11 |

My first thought was that this was going to be another generic NYC Italian upscale eatery. I was delighted to be mistaken. The menu was approachable and familiar, yet just with enough twist to make it intriguing. The bread-which is an important factor to me, was crunchy and soft in the right places. My companion had Veal Marsala. It was tender and flavorful and generously portioned. I ordered the Bucatini Amatriciana. It was prepared al dente-which is crucial to pasta lovers. and had just enough kick to be exciting but not too spicy. The service was more than helpful and seemed to truly enjoy their job. Please note: while it can be visited on a date, it can be a bit noisy and is not an 'intimate experience" unless you sit at one of the tables for two along the wall. I will returning to Verde on Smith frequently.

Very Impressed

By ItalyLovers4Ever_10 |

We don't often frequent the restaurants on Smith Street because we no longer live in Brooklyn, but if we did, Verde Cafe would definitely be a 'regular'. We visited recently with friends and it was a lovely meal, and we were all, including the friend who recommended it, and had been there before for lunch, very impressed. It was a Saturday night, and surprisingly quiet, but this storefront of a restaurant was very accommodating. The service was great, very attentive, and the food was very tasty, nicely prepared, and ample in size. We started with the eggplant spread, a greek salad, and a goat cheese salad, all very good. The entrees ordered included the Tliapia Puttanesca, the Napoli style Branzino, and the Chicken Portobello special. All the dishes were flavorful, and there were no complaints among the diners as we devoured the food, and still had leftovers to take home. Prices are very reasonable as well (low $20s for most of the entrees), including the wines by the glass (around $9 - $10). We finished with delicious coffee and shared a delightful mixed berry cake. Definitely a return-to kind of place.

RElaxing and yummy

By Araceli C |

great place to have dinner or brunch the service is fast and food is good!!! i love the place because it doesn't feel crowed and it has a garden area to dine.

Just average

By jnycake |

We were in town for a family get together and came here for dinner. It was a group of 14 and they accommodated us with a reservation. The complimentary bread with chopped tomatoes (similar to focaccia) was very good, but they only give one serving. When we asked for more bread, it was just a basic sliced roll at room temperature with butter on the side. I ordered calamari as my appetizer and I didn’t like it. It was too rubbery and seemed overcooked. I had seafood Alfredo with red sauce for my entrée as opposed to the white garlic sauce. The sauce was subpar. The jumbo shrimp and chunks of salmon were good, but included the calamari which wasn’t. I opted for tiramisu as my dessert. I’ve tasted better. Our waiter, bless his heart, seemed overwhelmed. We had to ask for stuff 2, 3 or even 4 times as he kept forgetting. Overall, I left disappointed. I was not impressed with the food or service and will not come back again.

Food is okay, better options nearby

By dpakman91 |

Have been here several times for brunch. Good selection. The dishes are very good, not THE BEST, but you won't be disappointed. They have a bottomless brunch option for drinks. Cafe Luluc next door is better, but cash only.

A true neighborhood spot.

By Lukus |

My husband and I can be found at brunch here most every weekend at Verde. The food is consistent and reliably good. They have options on the menu for the entire spectrum of weekend appetite... from keeping it light because you just left the gym all the way to crawling out of bed hungover. Throw in the boozy brunch option and you may go entirely from one end of the spectrum to the other in 2 hours. The staff is kind, responsive, and quick. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting. Over the years we have brought in nearly all our family and friends at one time or another. This is our neighborhood spot and we're glad to have them around.

Good but need service with a smile:)

By Sue P |

We went here on our first night in Brooklyn and had a good meal! This restaurant caters for different tastes as we had pizzas, lobster and a salad! Went back so that is a positive but felt waiter was not all that enthusiastic?

Wonderful dinner in comfortable setting

By Judy G |

Tried this for the first time and had a wonderful dinner. The food was delicious- great branzino and excellent chicken parm. The service was wonderful. And the atmosphere was welcoming. Best of all- we could hear each other.

Best brunch spot

By Vanessa N |

Looooove this place, I go again and again and their service, food and BOTTOMLESS brunch never disappoints. The food quality is great and has remained since the first time there. Our glasses were never empty during the bottomless brunch. It’s 60 well served minutes, totally worth it

A Brooklyn Hideway

By BKtheRetiree |

Is it possible to go to a restaurant on busy Smith Street in downtown Brooklyn and feel as if you are in a quiet hideaway? Yes, at Verde on Smith, a lovely little restaurant on Smith Street, just blocks from the bustle of Atlantic Avenue and the Brooklyn Bridge. We had a group of 11 to celebrate a friend's 65th birthday, and we were graced with perfect early summer weather, which allowed us to sit outdoors in a beautiful little garden setting. Food and service were outstanding. A wide variety of appetizers, including salads (Caesar, Spinach, Strawberry, Nicoise) and hot choices (baked clams, mussels, eggplant lasagnetta - layered eggplant served just like it sounds). High marks for all. Main courses were also aplenty, including lobster, zuppa di pesce, veal piccata, lamb shank, shrimp scampi. The food arrived hot and delicious. Also a nice selection of desserts including fresh fruit sorbets, ice creams (the hazelnut was dee-lish), chocolate lava cake, and Runny Chip cookies (baked dough sandwiching vanilla ice cream). We couldn't have asked for better weather, better food, or a better atmosphere to enjoy being with old friends.

Great restaurant

By 17onthego |

We booked this restaurant based on reviews from trip advisor. We were not disappointed. It's small but comfortable. Service was great . Food was excellent. I would definitely go back.

Went for the clams, glad we did.

By foodhobbyist |

Moved out of NYC many years ago but went back for an anniversary. Decided to skip Manhattan and went to Brooklyn. Picked Verde because Clams Oreganata is offered and the wife hadn't had them in years (lots of Clams Casino in Virginia but no Oreganata). Glad we did. Clams were not quite what she was looking for but still very good, The Veal Piccata she had was excellent. I chose two specials, grilled calamari (squid) drizzled with olive oil, lemon and capers, and pan seared encrusted whole Branzino. Calarmari was perfectly cooked, no toughness. Branzino was flavorful, moist and flaky. Both quite satisfying. Nice wine list also. Would have had dessert but nothing different offered, went to a bakery cafe in Manhattan instead. Overall, very pleased with Verde and do recommend.

Excellent restaurant

This restaurant has the best Italian food. I've been here a couple of times and I can always tell how fresh the food is. What I like the most -besides the food of course- is that you can come on a date, with your friends for a couple of drinks and food or with your family. Everybody is welcome in Verde on smith and the service is awesome

Good food, Good service

By Michael C |

Walked by and decided to try it out. I was seated in the front where I could watch the foot traffic. I ordered the Spnich Gorgonzola Salad which was ample and good. The Lobster Feast looked tempting but I had the chicken marsala for the entre and again, it was a good size portion and very flavorful. The service was attentive without being intrusive. The prices were reasonable ($9 for the salad and $19 for the Marsala) I will definately return here in the future.

Have eaten dinner here which was very nice but I really enjoyed their brunch! Delicious dishes, amazing drinks and they have an outdoor area in the back is well which is great in the summer!

Excellence.

The food is consistently excellent. The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. These folks are great at what they're doing - all that and somehow the price is very reasonable. The brunch is lively and fun, with great drink specials. Good mix of sweet and savoury menu items.

Crispy Gnocchi with Broccoli & Sausage to Die For

By Steven C |

Verde on Smith is a quaint Italian Restaraunt that offers a quiet place for a romantic dinner for two or a friendly dinner for four. The food was excellent, I had the Mozarella with Prosciutto for starters and the Gnocchi with Broccoli Rob and Sausage was fantastic. The Gnocchi was served crispy which was unique, after the pasta was boiled it was lightly fired in a pan, great idea! Others in my party had the Brozini with vegetables. The fish was fresh and cooked to perfection, we finsihed off the meal with a nice selection of desserts and coffee. I higghly reccomend thsi restaraunt and the Smith Street area of Brooklyn in general.

A Neighborhood Gem

I have visited this restaurant many, many times and never have been disappointed. The food and service are outstanding. Pastas are great. In the spring and summer, the back garden is a great place to eat . Our last meal was as good as always. Try the Veal Piccata with the best sautéed spinach!

'IT WAS A GREAT DINNER'

By Chrisssy C |

We came here for a friends birthday and we drove in from NJ and it was worth it. The restaurant is beautiful, brick walls and mirrors and candles. The owner and staff were courteous and helpful. The food was DELICIOUS,and they have a great bar and the bartender was very nice as well. It was worth the drive to Brooklyn, next year I want my birthday here and I was told they have a great brunch too.

Wonderful Brunch

Verde serves nutritious light meals that are fulfilling and delicious. The waiters and waitresses are aware of their customers, but not pushy while serving them. It was overall and wonderful meal and experience.

Delicious, would go back

Beautiful intimate feeling restaurant, long and narrow. We ate outside on the back patio which was nicely shaded. Walked in with no reservation. Service was immediate, and attentive. Ordered an appetizer, while trying to figure out what to eat. Our table ordered the crispy gnocchi, lasagna, and spaghetti w/ scallops/shrimp. I was afraid the shrimp would be the tiny shrimp, but they were good sized shrimp. I sampled my husbands lasagna, and it was simply the best I've ever had. He thought my shrimp were fabulous. They also give you bread, with olive oil. The only bad thing I can say is, that a young man other than our waiter cleared our plates rapidly after each course with a little left on our plates that I would have liked to save to nibble on. But then again I could've spoke up. I had a drink called fiori blue, which is now my favorite drink to order back home. Would definitely go back!

Valentine’s Day Massacre

By Dean K |

Horrible, Appalling, Dreadful, Terrible, Nasty, Revolting.... just a few adjectives to describe our Valentine Day dinner. I booked a week in advance. The place was full at 7:30 pm and we were escorted to a rear annex that was so cold people wore top coats, hats and anoraks with hoods throughout their “dining experience.” Had I remembered my gloves, I’d have worn them too. I actually began shivering. My wife, too “understanding” ” to complain and too “tolerant” to walk out joined my in ice-berg hell. So is this what dinning on the Titanic was like I asked myself. Our entrees were eventually dumped at our table by an obviously stressed waiter a good hour after we arrived. Wisely no one ever asked us that standard restaurant ice-breaker: “is everything alright.” My side veggies were barely warm and had, I assume, not been fully microwaved into table readiness. The ingredients in the $18 chicken Alfredo may have cost as much as $1.50 and the $10 a glass wine was surely from a bottle that wholesaled for less than $10 - a bottle or perhaps even a case! Verde was once excellent, it then fell from Grace under new management but made a come-back. It’s latest incarnation obviously places volume and profit over comfort and service. Luluc, next door is far and away, superior. Bye bye Verde.

Pretty good.

The muscles did not taste particular fresh, but the eggplant appetizer was absolutely delicious. The prices were also reasonable, the crowd on the older side, but the staff very attentive.

Love Trying a New Restaurant....and it's GREAT!

By Jaynyc2 |

Three friends and I have a monthly dinner together...usually in Brooklyn. We usually try a new restaurant. Someplace that has something for everyone (one person is VERY picky about what he eats). The online menu met that criteria. The waiter told us about that day's specials. Two of us ordered the fish special, Branzini. We were given the choice of the whole fish or filet. Both of us requested Filet. The waiter told us that the fish takes a while, about 15-20 minutes. We appreciated being 'warned' that our food would not be ready very quickly. About 20 minutes later, the server came out with two WHOLE fish. We informed him that we had ordered Filet. No argument. He went back to the kitchen and about 10-15 minutes later he returned with the correctly prepared dish. The other two entrees were held back until ours were ready. All of our dishes came out hot. And they were all DELICIOUS! While we usually look for new eateries there is no doubt we will be returning to Verde on Smith!

The Lobster Feast here is outrageously good!

Located in Brooklyn's Cobble Hill, this place is outstanding! I had the seafood zuppa (soup) which was ztupendous. Others had pasta and salad and no one was disappointed...in fact everyone loved it!

Hello Brooklyn! What took us so long?

By Kim M |

For all the time we spend in NYC, I can count on one hand the number of times I've dined in Brooklyn - but that's about to change. We happened upon Verde today and had the tastiest, loveliest meal! From the olives and olive oil that arrived with the bread and the superb margaritas ... we knew immediately we'd made a good choice. Our veal and beef entrees were superbly prepared from the finest ingredients - my filet mignon over a bed of spicy fresh greens with big slices of fresh parmesan was also big enough to share. We ate too much to go for desert, but I did manage an excellent cappucicno - perfectly frothed and delicious. With the top shelf specialty margaritas we both had, and the cappuccino and a beer later, and two generously portioned entrees... and a generous tip reflective of the excellent service throughout the meal... we spent less than $100. Can't wait to go back for lunch and try a Kobe Beef Burger. The place is quite family friendly too - from toddlers to elementary school age kids, we saw several families dining with kids clearly welcomed.
