don't be turned off by the location or the look of the place. The food is great. The chicken and pork are favorites. Food so good you'll eat long past full. Enjoy

i always get the oxtail and it's always great.

If you want authentic good homestyle cuban cuisine - this is my number 1 place to go. It's casual, not upscale by any means, but I would NOT classify this as a whole-in-the-wall type place. It's large portions of well-priced (not cheap), well-made cuban food, with no pizazz. There are other Versailles that are "nicer" but this one is by far the best-- and i can tell the difference. The milk shakes are perfect, not overly sweet. They bring warm buttered bread to your table and when you're hungry this is the biggest PLUS. The yucca frita is good, and the yucca al mojo is also very good. Top two dishes hands down is the ropa Vieja (shredded beef) and the roasted pork (al mojo). Don't get too creative and venture off in the menu, stick to the basics and what's good, we've ventured and it's never really paid off. Not to say it isn't good, BUT it's nothing to special and sometimes simply not worth the money or calories. The ropa vieja is phenomenal tho, comes with rice and platanos that are cooked very authentic and plantinas are always the right level of ripeness which is key! It comes with a little bowl of beans, also cooked perfectly. Also, along the vein of not straying, keep your drinks orders simple too, milkshakes, sodas or beer. This won't be your place for amazing mojitos or sangria so don't bother being disappointed.

I have been going to this restaurant and this location for years and the taste is still the same or even better. I highly recommend this place and price is also affordable. The only thing is the parking here is a tad bit hard especially in the weekends but it's worth to wait and look for parking. You gotta try their food it is really good. My favorite is their oxtail.

I agree with the reviewer that says the food here is really hit or miss. Sometimes, I've gotten wonderful food. Sometimes its reheated rice and cold chicken. Guess it depends if they are making the food fresh in the kitchen that particular day. The restaurant has also seen better days--- there's been a notable decline in quality over the last couple years. Choices for young children are lacking. Service is adequate if indifferent.

There are times when I want a good meal an not the usual "find a restaurant" dance. This is it. I just want reliably delicious. The comfort food a Cuban family would serve. Nothing fussy. I always get the chicken with amazing garlic sauce. The pork was a little dry but was solid. This is no nonsense restaurant. No not expect linen tablecloths. Good for large parties. The cheesecake is homemade and the cake. While so many restaurants come and go this one remains consistent.

My sister took me here for lunch on a visit to town. Wow the food is fantastic! I had the chicken with yellow rice and substituted the plantains for the fries. The rice melted in your mouth, the chicken fell off the bone. I just love plantains and these did not disappoint. My sister had the shredded beef and said it was amazing. Don't let the outside discourage you. It is a wonderful mom and pop place and we can't wait to go back on Wednesday.

This was my first time going to eat Cuban food. I went to the one on Venice Blvd in Los Angels. The service and the food was fantastic. Will definitely go back again.

The food is not really amazing. But the shakes are so good and awesome. The place is not so clean and tidy. We will not come back here again. Tried it once and that's it.

After seeing Chef by Jon Favreau I felt an urge for Cuban food... we ended up in Versailles (fun fact for Frenchie;) and had a great late lunch... we missed the lunch menu because to late (3ish) anyway, we tried several things and even if it was mostly oily... it was good and we couldn't finish the plates ! Salsa was wrapping the scene and we spent a great time ! Gracias Cuba !

Having grown up around the corner in the mid-70s through mid-80s,this place is not even close to being a shadow of its formal self. This place was always packed. This place had booths and mirrors and cool customers. You see Gerardo the barber or you'd see movie stars. Either way, you would have to wait in line for the old man to let you in. The line would extend around the corner and it was always worth it. Now... It's tables are, well, tables. No booths. The lines are gone. The charm is gone. The experience just isn't the same. I guess the need to compete with Portos (when you really don't need to) shows. The food, which is really why you'd go today, is solid. The white rice and black beans are nothing special. The pollo asado, the signature dish, is solid. The Cuban sandwich is, pretty good but not great. If you've never had Cuban food in your entire life and this is your only experience then... This place is great. If you have a memory of this place and you haven't been lately or recently or in the last 20 years... Order the pollo. The rest if history.

Although it's been a while since I've been, Versailles has always been my favorite Cuban restaurant! Many friends and family that have attended more recently than me have said it's still awesome and the food still wonderful. Wish they had one where I live. Oh dare to dream..... If you get a chance to try out this jewel of a restaurant, by all means GO!!!!!!!

I would say that the place is decent. I ordered the roasted pork but didn't know that they were going to drench it with their sour orange sauce. The food was so sour that I couldn't really taste the pork that much. My cousin ordered the chicken which was better because it wasn't as sour. The parking is hard as the lot is very small. Our waiter was very friendly & the prices were descent as well. So overall experience... It was ok. Would I go back? Maybe. I'll have to remember to tell them to hold the sour orange sauce.

Very good food here. Meals come with plantains, black beans, and white rice. I like the garlic chicken and pork here. Service is very fast and portions are large.

Visited the Versailles on La Cienega in LA. Good and affordable Cuban food. The Famoso Pollo Versailles is still good but has lots of garlic (don't order if you don't like garlic). Hadn't been here in over 5 years so was really looking forward to my return visit.

We've been coming here for years. Love the cuban pork. Also love the fried plantains - which can be a little tricky to get right. The bread is very good, but don't fill up on it before you get your meal or you will be stuffed!

Unexpected large amount of food served in 4 minutes Not expensive Good atmosphere Friendly ......................................................,.......

I went to Sunday brunch with my family who have lived in Los Angeles for the past 30 years. They had not been to Versailles in many years but they had a good experience here in the past. All of the members of our party stated that the food used to be better 1 years ago and longer. The Caldo de Pollo was tasteless. We ordered the Versailles Garlic Chicken and it was tasty but too greasy for me. The others order the Arroz con Pollo and this meal was better but just OK. Good flavors and they "skimp" on the chicken. The highlight was the rice and beans.

This restaurant has a few satellites in the city. The one on Venice seems like the primary spot. Its lunch crowd includes studio workers and all sorts of customers who love the food. The waiters know the menu, and are efficient. My favorite dish is the garlic chicken, but there are many choices, and everything I've tried has been good. Black beans, rice, garlic sauce, platinos, onions are always good. The prices make this restaurant show up on best lists that highlight good food for low prices, but the food is just plain good. Take out, eat in, always worthwhile. I've been coming here monthly since the '80s. Tables are easy to get until dinner time when it can get busy. Parking is right outside and extremely convenient, right off Venice. The restaurant celebrates Cuba, and their food does that best.

I usually frequent Versailles on Venice Blvd and it is always excellent. This was the first time I’ve visited the La Cienega location and I was not very impressed. Service was slow to non-existent. We had to wait until after the end of the meal before a server came by to refill our iced teas. The salad was one of the most bland I’ve had in a long time: iceberg lettuce, a few thin slices of tomato and a little cup of awful orange “French” dressing. My friend said his chicken was as good as at the other location, but my pork was decided inferior, with many dry bits throughout. The Tres Leches cake for dessert was good, but I’ve had better. I will stick to the Venice Blvd location in future.

it's ok. i usually get their garlic chicken.

I have been to this restaurant many times over the years; while the menu seems to have shift a bit, offering more Mexican-type dishes, the Cuban fare remains very authentic and delicious. The prices have spiked up to a bit-too-high for the type of place it is, so eating there becomes a bit of a splurge.

Versailles Restaurant is located in a strip mall on La Cienega just south of Pico Boulevard in Central Los Angeles. As often happens, some of the best ethnic food is located in the neighborhoods and not on "restaurant row". I have been eating here since discovering it in the mid-nineties. The food is authentic and delicious in every way. The restaurant has undergone some facelifts but it is still a strip mall joint. Don't let that comment scare you away -- the food is excellent and the service equally good! If you're looking for authentic Cuban in Los Angeles, Versailles on LaCienega is the place.

Not that I have a problem with the atmosphere, it's a decent establishment. My issue is that I cannot devour the food in a way that would be deemed acceptable by the public (outside of a zoo setting). The BBQ chicken meal -- my mouth is watering just thinking of it. Rice, beans, plantains -- can't really go wrong here. The place can get busy, and parking can become an issue (but it's L.A. soooo -- yeah) If you want to dine in, you just need to time it correctly; otherwise, pack it to go and sit outside somewhere nice... or go home and eat with your hands void of shame. =)

My favorite is the Fried chunks of pork ( #2 on the menu), My wife loves the garlic chicken. You can't beat the plantains with garlic sauce on them. They do get very busy at night, so get there early. The staff is very quick and efficient, not the best customer service. You can also buy there Cuban mojo garlic marinade sauce and try to make your own cuban.

I have been a devotee of Versailles for 20+ years. I'm not sure how many souls were sold for their garlic lemon chicken recipe but it's that good. Succulent, flavourful, smothered in onions and that citrus jus! Oh.my.god. The fried plantains soaking in it - simply one of the best things I've ever eaten. Ever. I do like the Venice location best (they have several locations now), but that could be nostalgia as I always prefer the original. I haven't been to Cuba so can't confirm its authenticity, but can tell you, I was salivating every mile of highway between Phoenix and Los Angeles looking forward to it!

Solid Cuban fare for the masses...not exactly fine dining though. "Buttered" bread is just butter flavored oil, though, which is disconcerting.

Rice, beans, plantains, and chicken. This place has their formula and their place as an LA staple. Is it the best food you'll ever have? No. Is it cheap and cheerful and belly filling? Yes, yes, and yes.

Wow! Who knew Cuban food was this tasty? I recommend the whole Red Snapper - outstanding. At 6pm is was happy hour so cheap drinks as well. Amazing value and delicious.

I stop at Versailles every time I'm in LA. I've actually picked up a to-go order and headed to the airport so I could take the food home and have it for dinner. LA is a short 1-hour plane ride away from Phoenix so that's actually doable. The Lechon Asado makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Tender roasted pork marinated in spices and cooked till tender. I've eaten at the La Cienega location many times and once at Manhattan Beach and once at the location on Venice Blvd. Be warned that the La Cienega location is smaller and the parking lot is very, very small. Chances are you will have to park in one of the adjoining neighborhoods. Also, you will probably have to wait if you come at the peak of the dinner hour.

Good selection of unique food; everyone else I've brought there (including 2 Cubans) hasn't liked it...

I visited here with my cousins. It was my first time trying Cuban menu and I liked the taste of the food I tasted. It tasted really authentic and the dishes also beverages choices were typical of Cuba. If I have the chance to return to the US, I will definitely come back to this restaurant.

their #1 lechon asado is mouthwatering! to be honest, the parking is bad and the interior is ehh, but i go there for the pork.

Versailles has exceptional food for a reasonable price. The turn around time is quick and the food is very consistent. I always enjoy eating there and my favorite dish is the bbq chicken.

I don't love Cuban food

Lomo Saltado and a mojito and its a great dinner!

Best Cuban Food-Must try the chicken and ox-tail dish..

Always a 5 star restaurant but my last visit Feb 27, 2015 was a little disappointing , my usual favorite the Garlic Lemon chicken was rather dried out and while waiting I noticed the priced had increased on other items since my last visit,

This is one of my favorites. Casual and not expensive. The garlic chicken is to die for. A full half chicken in the best garlic sauce with rice and beans and plantains. I am not a bit banana fan so they substitute french fries for me. Has a ton of onions so if you need to be someplace later in the day or the next morning beware. My husband loves the pork as well.

Every time I visit LA, I always dine at Versailles. The Famoso Pollo Versailles (roasted garlic chicken) is unbelievable. The garlic marinate that it is prepared in can also be used as a sauce - do yourself a favor and order extra. You will thank yourself later. Dish is also served with rice and plantains. You can order a quarter or a half. Order a half, and have the left-overs for lunch. Honestly, I can't recommend anything else from the restaurant. I have always ordered the Famoso Pollo Versalles.

On our way to LAX, avoiding the jammed freeway, we passed the Versailles Restaurant on La Cienega. We looked at each other and nodded, so I pulled into the parking area. We are the kind of travellers who worry about possible delays in rental car return, security, etc, so felt we did not have enough time for a sit-down meal. So, we asked for our food to go, then ate it at the airport (after arriving with time to spare). The service was friendly and quick enough (fast food is what we were trying to avoid, after all). The beef tongue and the cuban style roasted pork were wonderful - we look forward to trying other dishes, this time with proper, leisurely dining at table.

It is like eating my family's food and enjoying it. I have been going to this location in the Venice Blvd in Los Angeles for more than 25 years and the food keeps on taking me back every time i have the opportunity. My "all time favority CHUNKS OF PORK, with mojo and rice, beans and plantains" DELICIOUS. I have recommended this place to everyone I know for cuban food, for the flavors, the service and the the sweet shakes you can enjoy, not to forget the flan,,

Different experience. Definitely the historical place where the first of the 3 restaurants is, releases a good Cuban experience and the food is almost genuine as it should be. Chicken with garlic is what you want, then Cuban sandwich.

This was a good place to eat, since my sister & I were famished when we entered. The restaurant is large, and there were many patrons, enjoying their meals. My sister is a big fan of fried plantains, and she found Versailles' plantains delicious. She was especially pleased with the bread!

This was the second time I have eaten at the Encino location. Service was quick and soft drinks were offered to be refilled without asking. The bread is brought out and is called garlic bread but our basket had 5-6 small pieces of thick French bread that had some drizzled butter (?) and small pieces of garlic but that covered only 1/3 of the bread and left the rest of the pieces dry. That is really the first time in years I didn't finish the first piece and didn't need to ask for a second basket. After reading the reviews I decided to go with the Chicken with garlic and it was a huge piece of chicken and cooked well but I found the white breast meat to be a bit dry. It comes with beans and rice and as I had seen someone mention brown rice, I ordered that but it isn't what most of us know as brown rice. They mix the beans with the rice and it colors the rice a darkish brown but had little taste to me. Our friend ordered the fish which came alone on a plate and looked delicious and he said it was good - not great. I will go again and try something different - perhaps a sandwich or a pork dish. To me chicken and garlic is better at Stonefire Grill so won't order that again. The restaurant on a Sunday at 5:00 was fairly empty but by 6:00 it was full up. Parking is limited but being there early we had no problem getting two spots right in front.

I visited this same place many years ago, when my sister lived just around the corner. now I live around the other corner, so it was time to revisit. Versailles serves authentic Caribbean food. the menu is not too extensive, but it is a good survey of different typical dishes. try the tostones, instead of french fries!

Me and my husband enjoy cuban food. so when we get a chance we go to versailles in los angels on La cienega. The food is always good and service is good. I alwaya have the grilled chicken breast with rice and black beans. And there is some much food that you can't eat it all. And they start it off with there great bread.

I have been eating at the Encino and the Culver City locations for years. You can't go wrong with Versailles Famous Garlic Chicken or the Grilled Pork Chops.

This place is a keeper. Was very disappointed in the food when I went there year's ago. Tried it again about 6 months ago and have been back many times since. Not sure what changed, but it worked. Pork is tender and flavorful.

Great food , great atmosphere service simply awesome . Very homestyle cooking with gracious service lots of parking .

Very busy spot with lots of people. Not sure what to expect because google review was high. However food was very mediocre. Service was ok, on the slow side.

Not what I expected at all. A very large diner. Easy parking outside, we did not book in advance. Lovely waitress, who was patient and guided us through the menu. Excellent food. Between we shared half a chicken, beef and pork that came with beans and rice and plantain. I thought the pork was the best. My husband had to have flan. He declared it excellent. It reminded him of his time in Cuba. The meal came quickly. We were not rushed away when we finished.

My aunt took us here because I wantef to try Cuban fare while in Miami.. OMG!! This place os amazing.. 1st off, we came on a sunday after church so half of the church congregation was there and there was a line out the door. I figured when you have that many people outside, it must be worth the wait. Well, looks are deceiving because our wait was only 15min and when we walked in, the restaurant wrapped around to the other side and a whole new side appeared and is even bigger.. no wonder the wait was only 15 min for a party of 7.. we got lucky and got Wilma serving us amd what an amazing smile, service and very knowledgeable regarding there menu. I ordered the Cuban mojito.. OMG, i have been drinking mojitos for a long time but this was by far, the BEST mojito I've ever had. It was refreshing with just the right amount of rum and mint and to top off, it had a sucar cane stick. I ordered not 1 but 2.. I ordered the chicken Versailles and my husband had a cuban sandwich, Wow.. my parents thought it was awesome but just a tad salty, i thought it was just part of the seasoning and i loved it.. AMAZING service, food and MOJITOS.. a MUST!!!

Upon leaving a business across the street I suddenly needed to eat! Then I caught the aroma, Cuban pork!! Following my nose I came to Versailles. I am forever spoiled. My server, Henry was one of the best, and, he worked as part of a team. I love team work, especially in a restaurant! After waffling for only a minute I ordered the traditional roast pork dinner! A mounds served hot. The black beans were very good but just warm. The white rice was cool and clumpy, I could break it up and mix with the beans. Raw onions completed the dish. The only down side of my experience was the presentation, very sloppy!!! The menu is a nice mix of finger food, salads, sandwiches and dinners. I already know what I will order next time!! The restaurant is very casual, folks working in their computers, a small B'Day party and families. The restaurant is handicap and child friendly. If you love Cuban food or want to try a new delicious adventure I highly recommend Versailles. On site parking too.

This was just what I needed. Some good Cuban food makes me feel as I am back home. I can only say parking is terrible, if not I would have given this restaurant 5 Stars.

Versailles has been the "Go To" Cuban restaurant in the Valley for Years. Always delicious and always well priced. Although Steak and Seafood are offered Chicken and Pork are the crowd favorites. Not a place for Vegerarians as the menu is seriously limited. Dishes marinated in garlic and citrus dominate and most are served with black beans, white rice , sliced onion and the obligatory fried plantains "Plantanos'. Not a place for a first date as the garlic and onions permeate, of course why dine here if your not indulging. I can never decide between the Garlic chicken , with onions ! Or the Roasted pork. Thankfully they serve a combination plate. Mix the rice and beans together order extra onion and enjoy "Cubana Authentico"

My sister convinced me to try Versailles Cuban restaurant in LA. I got the garlic chicken (half a chicken) and it was great! The waiter was very friendly and our food came out quickly. Their black beans and rice mix is also very good. The waiter got me to try a traditional Cuban soda called Ironbeer, it was ok, too sweet for my taste.

Never having tried cuban food before, this food is definitely easy to like. The place is simple, yet the charm comes from the buzzing atmosphere and the friendly service. Definitly share rather than have a whole plate to yourself, as servings here are rather on the large side. Had the simple salad (just lettuce and onions) good as a palate cleanser, or a refresher from all the meats, the chicken soup had big pieces of tender chicken and it with a tomatoey base. Now the famous chicken has its merits, first of all the portion they give you is huge, the fried bananas, along with black beans all go very well together, all mixed in with the garlic lemon sauce. Not the best chicken I've had, but as a complete meal it was great.

Great prices, great smells

You cannot beat this place for a big plate full of delicious food. Come hungry and expect leftovers. Everything is so delicious it's hard to decide...garlic chicken, of course...but I got that last time...I should try something new...hmmm...proud of myself, I RESISTED the garlic chicken and went with pork macetas, now that's my new favorite. We led off with beef empanadas (could make a meal out of those wonderful things), and my wife and daughter both got the beef Palomilla. It was my picky teenage daughter's first time and her impressed reaction when she tasted the food was priceless. It was my wife's birthday so we went big--appetizer, 3 entrees, flan dessert, mojito, and a pitcher of sangria. All that for 100 bucks. Impeccable service from the minute you step in the door. Parking sucks...after 7 you can park on La Cienega, but you might have to park in the residential behind the restaurant. The crappy parking is probably the reason we've never had to wait to be seated at a table.

I haven't been to Cuba (yet), so I have nothing to compare it to, but this food is great. We're in love with the Garlic Chicken.

Party of 5. I ate at a Versailles in Miami, FL. It was outstanding. This place was just meh! Chicken was edible. Plantains were excellent as were the rice and beans. We had it in a combo with roast pork. The bread that everyone else got was missing. We also had yucca which was yummy but their signature dish was lacking. Crappy service too, not that you go to a restaurant like this for the service. Dopey waiter. I would have liked him to be Cuban too but can't ding them for this.

The portions were huge so everyone took some home to enjoy the next day. The Chicken with the onions and garlic sauce is out favorite. The meals come with beans and rice - and for a small charge you can substitute one of these for a very large side-salad. Smallish parking lot.

I think 90 percent of the customers here order the garlic chicken. There is a good reason for that. It is excellent and cheap. Barbecue chicken is good also. Other menu items are ok. Stick to the garlic chicken or barbecue chicken. It's not fancy but the food is good.

I didn't like this restaurant at all. Food was not good, very acid (too much lemon instead of bitter oranges). The tamales were terrible! Six cubans in the table and nobody liked the food. Make your own judgement.

Amazing food with super fast & friendly service and so very authentic!!! My husband and I loved eating here recently. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because the restaurant is a little old & bedraggled.

I really wanted to love this place, but unfortunately I didn't. This place is always pretty busy so I was expecting a very good meal. The bread they bring out before the meal was my favorite part. Soft and garlicky, just delicious. The beer was cold as well. That is where the good ends. Ordered the Cuban sandwich and the 1/2 garlic chicken plate. The sandwich was beyond dry, so much so that I actually had to dip it in ketchup of all things. The fries that came with the sandwich were another highlight of the meal. As for the chicken plate, ran into the same issue as the sandwich, the chicken was very dry and the beans that came with it were flavorless. The service was pretty slow as well. It took quite a while to get our order taken. Maybe this was just a blip in the matrix. I am not sure if I will try this place again, but with my favorite Cuban place being 20 miles further than this one, it is a possibility.

My son and I went there for dinner and had an excellent dining experience. I had the ropa vieja which was so tender and a generous portion. The black beans and rice were authentic and delicious, too. Plantains on the side were outstanding as well. My son had the Cubano sandwich. It was huge, perfectly grilled and came with a large amount if fries. The service was efficient and friendly. I highly recommend Versailles!

oh how yummy it is. i'm sure everything is good but i can't stop getting the pork and chicken combo. it is so yummy i would take a human life to get to it. the platano are the nectar of the gods. Don't come here on second thought the line already too long.

Funny name for a cuban place, but the food was good. The service left something to be desired, but overall it was an okay experience. We may be back when we're in the area.

Haven’t ate here in years. The restaurant seems to have changed but the delishious garlic flavor in their go to Garlic Chicken is still there!!! ✔️So tasty - The rice & beans, the plantain〰️Mmmmmm

Excelent option. Delicious food, good prices, food taste like brazilian food, inclusive the rice and beans. Excelent option to run away from junk American food.

I sure miss this place living across the country now- I've enjoyed Cuban cuisine far and wide, but all places are measured against Versailles. Have the half chicken with garlic sauce, black beans, yellow rice, plantanos maduros... Versailles won't disappoint.

We have been eating here for 20 years & the food has remained consistent, tasty & authentic. It's a local hangout but also frequented by people working in LA.....the garlic chicken is yummy as are the Cuban sandwiches....not much in the way of atmosphere but who cares with the good food, enjoy!

I really like Versailles restaurant. Both the food and service are excellent. Place is very popular, so expect to wait, especially at dinner. Many different cuban dishes to choose from, and all are excellent. Parking is free, but depending on crowds, can be a little challenging. Overall this is an excellent restaurant to eat great Cuban food, so I recommend this place.

I have been frequenting this restaurant for more than 15 years. Best garlic chicken in the world! Comes with rice, onion rings and black beans. Then the magical fried plantains on the side. Always too much, so it makes two meals. I must confess I have pretty much just had this meal every time, as it is so good. The prices are very reasonable if you compare to the other prices in LA. When I travel there, I always go to Versailles, unless I have to give training the next day........garlic breath :) They have their own parking on the side of the building. Address: Versailles Cuban Food CULVER CITY 10319 Venice Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90034 (310) 558-3168 Enjoy indeed!

My sister chose this restaurant to meet for her birthday lunch, since she passes it often, and wondered how the food was. We decided on the sweet fried plantains, versailles pork and moros y cristianos (black beans and rice). The servings are generous, the wait staff efficient and attentive.

My sister and I decided to have lunch at Versailles Cuban Restaurant in Los Angeles. She loves the Classic Lechon Asado (Cuban style roasted pork) and plantains. I tried the Arroz con Pollo (chicken with yellow rice). We both enjoyed our choices.

My fiance and I ate here for a late lunch/early dinner. The food was very good- we both liked ours a lot. The portions were very large. I ordered the whole chicken with garlic sauce- very good- lemony, garlicky, moist chicken with yummy skin. It came with a black bean soup which I thought was pretty good, rice, and I got the french fries. My fiance ordered a pork sandwich and fries which was really good too. Our server was eh, the busser was really friendly and helped box our food. The food came out very fast and the restaurant and restrooms were clean. Yum yum.

Very great experience with this Cuban Restaurant. I have visited both the Manhattan Beach location and the one on Venice Blvd, and this restaurant on La Cienega just wins. The portions are plentiful and the food service was lightning quick. Definitely reccommend

best garlic chicken and black beans

We Visited this landmark restaurant tonight. Our party of six enjoyed Cuban sandwiches, Cuban pork and chicken. The service was fast and the beans and rice were perfect! We saw lots of smiles and friendly faces. We will go back when in this part of LA.

Food tasted great. They didn't have all beer selection. Looks more like a fast food restaurant. No AC when we were there very hot. Lechon asado was great. Pork meat very soft and shredded in a tangy sauce. Would recommend.

Good restaurant, on the smaller side in terms of site size, bad parking. We were lucky to find a spot down the street.

While the chicken and plantains are always good, the oxtail stew and beef tongue stew are fantastic. I've never been disappointed at Versailles. Service is friendly and the parking at the Culver City store makes the visit well worth it.

Went to our reliable Versaille for a Cuban food fix but it was just okay this go round. Our orders were served very quickly but my wife's meal was only warm, not hot off the range. They took it back and warmed re-heated or cooked it again. I think the sauce they poured over the pork was the culprit (luke warm) that cooled the dish down. When they brought it back out they served the sauce on the side, with the meal hot. Everything was still tasty but not fabulous. Hoping the next visit is a bit more wonderful.

I came here based on positive reviews by others. I showed up here at 7:30pm on a Saturday (they are open until 11pm) and they had already run out of Cuban sandwiches! Poor planning. I ended up ordering a chicken sandwich and fries. The sandwich had no real flavor except the bread was amazing but the service was very slow, 30 mins to get a sandwich. It left me wondering how good the Cuban sandwich could have been. Tried to order flan for dessert and was told that they were out of that too. I didn't try to order anything else for fear of more disappointment.

This Restaurant has been there for over 30 years and has with stand the test of time. It is a little pricey but the food is normally very good, at times the taste will differ a little bit, but not enough to change the taste of a first timer there, as a regular you will be able to se the difference otherwise this is a very good choice for Cuban food or simply to try another Country's food. You will not be disappointed.

Visited with some friends after a day at LA County Museum of Art. The dining area is one open space with lots of tables; don't come for the atmosphere but the food and service are fantastic. Had the cuban pollo dinner which was enough for two to share; came with with moros (black beans). Very attentive service, no complaints at all!

Great food, great service, it's hard to find good Cuban food however this place has it! Not sure what happened to the spot of Venice I used to frequent the spot when I lived on the West side in College.

Versailles is hit or miss. It's pretty good Cuban food on good nights, mediocre on others. The Ropa Vieja is great, but they lose me with their black beans. Most of the time they're either under or over-cooked. And broken beans is a cardinal sin. Also, the arroz con camarones is damn tasty...most of the time.

Versailles was highly recommended by some locals. It is OK. The garlic chicken is what they are famous for and that is what I got (too many onions, in my opinion, but you don't have to eat them all). It is super casual, could use a sprucing up. The food was good, but did not live up to the hype that those who recommended it made it out to be.

what more can you ask for? Their Chicken is the most popular, but their crispy pork chunks will make your mouth water and smile.

I like latin food, cuban is a great cuisine. This is a great place to try if you are new in the Cuban kitchen; either way if you already enjoy this type of food is great option, great service just a little bit slow when they have to bring the check... tasty.

The garlic chicken dinner can't be beat! We usually go there at least once every other week! The portions are very generous. I particularly love the plantains!

Excellent food, they offer a variety of dishes for every one, highly recommend the chicken and pork combo

Cheap great eat! Try the garlic chicken!

10 pm Saturday night, we were hungry. In LA, this means limited options- but Versailles was open and busy. Delicious smell of garlic, savory meats ,loud chatter, salsa music blaring, couples laughing, kids still up--- its just an easy fun place. Food came quickly- I had the palomilla steak with black beans ,rice, plantains.I filled up on the buttery bread but I made room for almost the entire steak! Was it greasy? Yes, was it fattening? yes, but so delicious and hearty.. Parking is easy, food is fast, reasonable and ALOT! Arrive hungry. Recommend for family ,couples, it's satisfying!

It was between the garlic chicken and pulled pork sandwich, the chicken won! Half a chicken served with rice and beans was ideal. Next time i'm getting the pork sandwich with a glass of sangria! Definitely recommend when you are in the mood for good Cuban food. Nothing fancy either so go casual and comfortable.

We love to go to Versailles whenever we are in LA... the food is consistently yummy. Sweet Plantains, Tostones, Beans & Rice, Garlic Chicken... I could go on and on! The waitstaff was helpful and the service was prompt! Prices are reasonable and servings are large.

The chicken with garlic is amazing. the plantains amazing. the yucca amazing. finnish it with flan and cuban coffee

I've been to two different locations. I prefer the smaller one on La Cienga Blvd to the largers one on Venice Blvd. The food always comes out fast and hot and tastes quite good. If you are a food snob, be advised this is not the real deal, at least according to Cuban food experts. However, I've never had a bad meal there. Everything tastes fresh. Yes, they can overdo the butter or oil here and there, but I'm certain you can request a reduction, but why bother? It really does taste good and it's not a rip off.

We went to the Venice Blvd one the original , we went again a couple,of weeks ago, my partner said it wasn't good, this time we went we both agreed it wasn't a good meal, we ordered the combo special for $23 chicken and pork original .sadly it's lost the spark of the good old days. I received supposedly a quarter chicken, it was a wing with a small piece of breast, and some pork, mostly a fatty mass, the chicken was really dry, it had almost a rancid flavor , not nice. Pork like I said was mostly fat and a very small portion. The whole meal, was very disappointing not the Versailles I remember , we started with the croquets , they had a weird taste too. I gave it a second chance, I don't think we will be going back. A big disappointment . Sad.

Took my colleagues here for lunch because it sounded interesting. The staff was friendly and the food hit the mark. Authentic Cuban cooking with all the fixins. My Cubano sandwich was very good and the plantains were freshly made. The Flan tasted old and not too fresh, either that or maybe just overcooked.

Five of us visited this Cuban restaurant in ENCINO, CA. It had been a couple years since we got together here, and our memories of it were good. Since none of us were drinkers, we did not have any drinks, but did order appetitizers of Empanadas, one chicken and one beef. Both were very good. We each ordered something different and shared. Our ratings for the entrees were: 1. Oxtail stew - Excellent! 2. Stewed Beef Tongue - also Excellent; hard to tell if this was better or the Oxtail 3. Calamari Steak - Excellent, but definitely #3, but so close to the other 2 above it 4. Garlic Chicken - just barely good, though it's supposed to be one of their specialities. Borderline of being TOO overcooked. We've had this dish before, and it was a huge disappointment. 5. Fried Pork Chunk - definitely overcooked and very dry. Huge disappointment. All entrees came with fried plaintain bananas and rice. I agree that there isn't much atmosphere, but good food, very good service.

I frequently this restaurant often when I lived in LA 10 years ago. After a recent visit, I understand why it's legendary. They still have many of the same wait staff as they did in previous years. And the food is still top-notch - some of the best Cuban food I've ever had.

I had booked a room at the Residence Inn Marriott in Manhattan Beach, LA. I was hungry and searched for a restaurant in the internet. I chose the Versailles Cuban Restaurant, I stopped for directions at a Toyota Dealer next door and the guy I asked said that they really liked that restaurant and go there "all the time". I went there to get some simple, decent food to go. The restaurant was pretty empty, but the guys who worked there seemed friendly enough. I ordered some black bean soup, a salad and some tostones (fried green plantain). It took a while to get it and when they gave me the bag I paid and left. I can't remember the exact price but it was surprisingly expensive. I went back to the hotel to eat and what a disappointment, The portions were small, the salad was nothing but some tasteless iceberg lettuce (the told me it was a garden greens salad), I specifically asked them for no iceberg lettuce.. Oh well, I went to eat the black bean soup and it was not as good as opening a $1.10 can of Goya Black beans and heating it on the stove. The tostones tasted stale and very oily and were cold to boot. I considered it a complete ripoff. The food was barely edible taste wise and I should have thrown it away. I got nothing more that lousy tasting food and a case of indigestion. If I ever find myself in that area, I'll definitely choose MacDonalds or any other fast food restaurant over the Versailles Cuban Restaurant. At least the fast food restaurant fare is of consistent quality and the price is in line with the value. Plus they have free WIFI.

In preparation for a trip to Cuba in February, this is the third Cuban restaurant I've been to in about 4 weeks. The first item brought to my table was a complementary basket with 3 slices of mediocre garlic bread. It was not warm or crispy. I only ate one piece. I wasn't very hungry, so ordered 2 appetizers and dessert, rather than a meal. The dough on the empanadas was nowhere near as tasty as those at Habana in Costa Mesa. The crust was too dry, for one thing. The beef empanada was greasy, and the filling was average. The spinach and cheese empanada was not much better--the spinach was overcooked. The waiter was kind enough to point out to me that empanadas were on the lunch special board, $2.50 each, while the regular price on the menu was 2 for $6.50. The plantains were the best thing I had. There was a large amount on the plate. I enjoyed these, and took half home. The flan was so subpar, that I left a third of it. And I love flan! It didn't have the creamy taste of my favorite flan so far, again from Habana in Costa Mesa. Please see my accompanying photos.

food's kind of greasy

Versailles has authentic Cuban food. that's saying a lot right there. I took a friend here a couple weeks ago. he'd never had Cuban cuisine, and now, this is his favorite restaurant. I've tried several of the menu items, but the craving that draws me back is the tostones. but an authentic cubano sandwich on the west coast is a great thing to have, not to mention ropa vieja and camarones al ajillo... it's pricier than in Miami, but that's California. unfortunately, they don't have Presidente beer, which would make it perfect.

This is a fabulous restaurant. If you've never eaten Cuban food before, the employees will be happy to explain their offerings and make suggestions regarding what to order. The garlic chicken and the pork dishes are favorites. You'll also love the plantains and the beans. The portions are big and the prices are extremely reasonable. This is a casual, restaurant located in a nondescript strip mall. It is all about good, authentic food.

Awesome authentic Cuban food (try the famous Garlic Chicken) and a very lively vibe. Great authentic cocktails as well.

I gadget the famous cuban chicken an unfortunately it was overcooked and dry . The servers were nice and pleasent. I am sure its a nice place since its rated very high. Hopefully next time will be better.

This is the premiere Cuban restaurant located in west Los Angeles. Truly authentic Cuban food. The wait staff is fast polite and attentive..Igbo you love garlic and perfectly cooked chicken or pork, this is the place for you

We drove by this place during our visit and wondered "how will it compare to the Cuban food back home in Miami?". Well, this was excellent, some of the best black beans I have had in my long cuban life! My wife mentioned the Vaca Frita was the best she ever had too. Everything was great tasting and fast service. Just need some mariquitas on the menu to make it complete for me. But we strongly recommend it.

We love this place, their chicken, ropa vieja, etc etc, everything is really yummi. Love fried plantains and fried yuca!! Feels very homy!

I can't say how good the food is here as I"ve only been to one Cuban resturant, but this was very good.

One of my first favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. Garlic chicken at its best. The beans and rice are aight.

Long-standing Cuban restaurant with delicious chicken. I’ve been coming here for years for the chicken with onions with rice and black beans on the side ($2 more for yellow rice. It is good, but not a must-do). The plantains are my favorite part - sweet, nicely crisped on the outside with a caramelized outer layer and soft and sweet on the inside, they contrast nicely against the sharp saltiness of the sauce and chicken. I always order that, but the roast pork is also a safe bet and is very tender. In fact, I like the food at Versailles more than I like the actual food in Cuba (go figure). They are on grub hub/seamless, and also take credit card. It’s a small lot, but parking is available. The food comes out within 15-20 minutes and it’s always bustling, but not overwhelming. Bathrooms are available, and they do take credit card.

Nothing to write home about. Mediocre food. Service is good and staff very friendly, but it is really really hard to hear. Difficult place to have a conversation and hear each other.

Went to Versailles restaurant on a return visit to Los Angeles. Last time I ate there was 20+ years ago and it was great. This time it wasn't as great as I recalled. Perhaps it was because I went around 3:00 in the afternoon. I ordered the garlic chicken and it was dry. The restaurant itself looked run down. Just sad to see what time did to this place.

Loved Rabo Enscendido, Batido de Mamey y yuca con mojo. Was not particularly fond of the Chuletas de Puerco...they put honey glaze onions on top of it and in Miami onions are never glazed but garlic is added. Wish they had Batido made of cereal..common in Miami but overall very good. Prices are good and try the arroz con leche dessert. Parking is very difficult.

I had heard great reviews about this place but finally went on a surprise Monday dinner date. Definitely not your mundane Monday meal! I could smell the delicious food as soon as we opened the door. The place is casual but serves alcohol, the garlic bread appetizers are yummy and the entrees, delicioso! I ordered the chicken rotisserie special but also tasted the pork. Yum, yum, yum! Garlic-y, juicy, and cooked to perfection. What's not to love?

My last dinner in LA. I loved the food, service n environment. It was my first time to go to Cuban Restaurant. I also loved the dessert cheese cake n also my daughters favourite CHHUROS.

One of my favorite Cuban spots in LA. I always get the #6 garlic chicken which comes with rice, black beans, and plantains (I love the plantains). I have enough for leftovers the following day as the portion size is generous. They give you free garlic bread to munch on while waiting but the food comes out quickly. There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. There’s a free parking lot. Credit cards are accepted. I tried the tres leches cake ($8) on this visit as I came with two other friends who were down to split; it was very moist but I would try the dulce de leche cheesecake next time instead.

Great Cuban food in a nostalgic setting. Make sure to get the roast chicken, roast pork or the Cuban sandwich. Fried plantains and moros are great with any meal!

Months ago, my son and his fiancée, my husband and I met with the manager of Versailles to schedule the welcome dinner for 35-40 people on April 7 before their wedding the following day. I confirmed the guest count, date and time on Tuesday April 4. On Friday April 7, I arrived a half hour early to decorate the tables. I was told that we were scheduled for the following evening. What followed was an impressive display of customer service. Salvador and the Versailles staff sprang into action, immediately arranging tables in the section of the restaurant we had agreed to, gently ushering diners into another part of the restaurant. The drinks started flowing, the appetizers and food arrived hot and correctly, and all was handled with a smile. Five stars plus plus plus!! Thank you to Salvador and the entire staff of Versailles for turning what could have been a terrible disappointment into a fun and memorable evening.

My Cuban husband and I ate here for lunch. We both had a Cuban Sandwich. They were tasteless. We are sorry to say we won't eat here again.

Black beans, rice, plantains! I have trouble ordering anything else. The papaya mango shake - also delicious and perfect with the Cuban cuisine! Not fancy - bit totally worth it!

I have eaten cuban everywhere (except Havana) and this place is truly authentic and delicious. Its cheaper than most restaurants in Los Angeles and the food is better! Good service, great food.

Come on. We don't understand why this place gets such great reviews. You leave smelling of garlic, which would be ok if you got a great garlicky meal to remember. All we got was a belly ache!

Good cubano but the signature dish is the garlic mojo sauce with chicken, onions, and sweet plantains and black beans and rice. I like the sauce with the pork also. If you've never tried this you need to try it at least once to make sure you're not missing out on something you really like.

I only get the garlic chicken. It seems to be what they are famous for. It's really great. I love onions and it comes covered with them. Great plantains too. I smell like garlic for at last a day afterwards. It comes out of my pores. Good thing I love garlic.

I went in more than one opportunity because I like Cuban food. The chicken was unpleasant and also the pork... white rice with black beans ("moros y cristiamos") was the only tasty thing, the tostones were very bad. The flan for dessert was very good.

overrated.

This is a must-visit spot in L.A. if you're looking to experience AUTHENTIC CUBAN FOOD. Their Garlic Chicken is the signature dish-It is amazing-if this is your first visit, try this first. Thy give you healthy portions-so bring your appetite. The black beans and rice/plantains are exceptional. Aways good service.

the food is bland and all the dishes taste the same.

Cuban food is so rich in flavor and so unique. The Versailles is the place to enjoy this culinary cuisine. As a vegetarian, I was unsure if there would be anything to eat, but the menu offered several delicious choices. The Beans and rice and fried plantains were so incredible and an avocado salad was the perfect compliment. And don't pass up the amazing Tres Leches cake for dessert.

This is one of my favorite restaurants. The garlic chicken is the dish to have! I also love the plantains and black beans and rice. The staff was efficient and friendly as always. I never miss the chance to visit this restaurant whenever I am in LA.

The Versailles is somewhat of an institution in Culver City. Always attracts a crowd. While busy service is Ok....not great. Waited over 10 min. to pay the bill. The menu is extensive offering a full range of Cuban delicacies. However the sauces are very conservative bordering on bland. I ordered the Carne Con Papas - Beef Stew "Tender boneless chunks of beef with potatoes cooked in a tomato basil sauce to create the perfect beef stew". The preparation and presentation was wonderful. The meat was tender. The potatoes were cooked to perfection. the fried plantains were soft and sweet. However the sauce was bland. My wife ordered the Ropa Vieja - Shredded Beef. Her comment was that the food was good but bland. Not up to the best of Cuban food she has had.

Six of us visited Versailles for an early dinner at about 5 pm. No waiting and a welcoming waiter. Seating is a bit tight. Dining room shows its age. Restrooms could use a renovation. Food was good - I sampled my sister's chcken barbacoa and I had a salmon salad. Salmon was overdone.

We stopped in for a mid-afternoon lunch -- good service and the food was excellent. I chose #1 Lechon Asado -- roast pork marinated in the house specialty (garlic sauce). Definitely try for a dish with the "versailles" sauce -- there will be no regrets. They have a nice wine selection, but I would choose beer (negra modelo).

Was in L.A. for the weekend and my sister took me to this place, she said it's a must try since I was in town. We ordered their bestseller, the 1/2 Garlic Chicken with fried plantains(bananas) & black Beans. The chicken was tangy, great blend of garlic & lemon. And the plantains & beans was a perfect combination. The dishes in this place are affordable, they have pork & beef as well. The service is ok,no ambience at all, so if you come here, it's just for the food. It's worth a try.

I'd been here once before and had a very good lunch. My recent dinner was quite disappointing. Chicken was dry and tough, and shredded pork also stringy. Bread served with dinner was soggy. Disappointing since I was expecting far better based on my prior visit.

No frills, just excellent Cuban fare at all three locations. My fave is the original in Culver City. Best Cuban Chicken outside of Havana. A spirited place with loyal followers. You go, you'll know why.

Our friend took us to the La Cienega location as she has been there before and liked the chicken. After a long day we were hungry and looking forward to a hot savory meal. What we got was cold chicken, and cold gummy rice. My son ordered a chicken sandwich, the chicken had no flavor, but that was not worst part under the chicken sandwich he found rice and bean leftover which made us think the plate was "recycled" we were so disgusted and upset. My daughter wanted to throw up. The waiter was rude but the manager was even rudder arguing that there was nothing wrong with food, screaming that the food was hot! We just paid and left. No desire to argue, we were hungry and tired. I had been to many restaurants some good some not so good, but this was the worse food experience ever! If you ever go to this restaurant please check that your plate is not a 'recycled plate" no stars for this place

This place is famous for it's chicken and several of our party enjoyed the huge half chicken portions served in a variety of ways. I had the Mahi Mahi special which was served in garlic butter with a side of fried plantains. It was delicious. The restaurant was very noisy making conversation extremely difficult. Dinner for 4 with tax, tips and drinks came to $80.

We always try to eat at Versailles when we visit LA. Now living in SF we still miss it. We get the roast chicken and the roast pork which has extremely garlicky, lime-y marinade. If you have a cold and really can't taste your food - you can taste this. Comes w rice, black beans, plantains. Reasonable prices - nice sized potions. Big menu, fairly loud and so it's find if you have kids. Some of the locations get quite a crowd at peak so we try to avoid the peak times if possible.

I went to the restaurant to try to famous Cuban chicken. The food was good but the service can defiantly be better. Nothing to special about the restaurant. An average mid-range restaurant

Come for the food because its ambiance has all the charm of a Motel 6. In warmer months your taste of the “Cuban Heat” may be due to this store’s lack of air conditioning in its tightly enclosed room making for a sweltering experience. Their Garlic Chicken smothered in stewed onions and garlic sauce is a family favorite. The larger pieces of chicken can dry out despite all the juice, so eat them first. And be sure to order extra Plantains, as they quickly disappear. Look around because sometimes Specials are posted on the wallboard; asking for them seems to annoy the servers. They don’t listen much to special requests or dietary restrictions, either; rather they will usually bring you what they want you to have. Again, their food is usually delicious and worth the oddities. If you take anything to go (including large party trays), make sure it is held securely in place preferably with something underneath. Spill it and your car will smell like garlic for eternity. Parking can be found in their small lot (except when busy) or you can usually find something on the adjacent streets. Just read the meters / signs. Don’t park in spaces of the adjacent businesses, however, even after-hours, or you will regret it.

This place is a good value for the $$$. I had the special - Halibut with Garlic Sauce - my daughter had the steak. My fish was a little dry (not too bad) but OK. Most entrees are priced in the $10 to $12 range and gave large portions. The sides were always the traditional plantains and beans and rice (I love both) so I was happy with the overall experience. Service was exceptional. I'll go back on my next visit.

This is an LA institution and afficianados debate which location is better - Venice is big and crowded La Cienega is small and intimate but I've always managed to get a table; Encino is pretty utilitarian but plenty of room. And the food is fabulous in all three - I'm a HUGE fan of the roast pork with black beans and rice and plantain and pickled onions.

Been coming here for years, used to be great, yesterday was not so great. We had the combo plate chicken and pork , the chicken was very dry , hard to swallow and had an odd almost rancid flavor, I was given a portion of the breast with the wing, very small chicken. The pork was minimal , very fatty and extra lemony this time, didn't care for it. Service was almost non existent, other than bring water, take order bring order, no interaction as to is every thing ok or to check back, nothing. Took a doggy bag and ate the small portion for dinner, around 1 am, I barely made it to the bathroom to vomit, violent projectile vomit. It had done a number on me. I guess we won't be going to Versailles on Venice anymore. Will have to find another Cuban restaurant to quench that yearning, but it won't be for a while, my stomach won't allow me to, Gone are the good days with atmosphere and Cuban music, sad. A generous 2 stars ..

This was by far one of our favorite restaurants in L.A. We always get the garlic chicken (Pollo famosa de Versailles) which is their signature dish. At any one time over 50% of diners at the restaurant will be ordering this dish. Over the years we have gotten the distinct impression that they have stumbled a little. The chicken is somewhat rubbery now and has lost the incredible juicy texture that it once had. Also, they have changed somewhat the way they cook the yucca frita and I suspect that it is possibly frozen or refrigerated. On the good side, the citrus garlic sauce is still outstanding and I am hopeful that they can rectify their problems. We have also noticed that it is much less busy than it used to be ie: we can now walk in on a Friday evening and still hope to find a table (as opposed to a line). Hopefully the owners will see this review and re-evaluate what is going on with the quality of their most important and signature dish.

Lots of people - Original Cuban food - very fresh - chicken, red beans, rice - the tres leches cake is good

If you like good food in a non-pretentious setting, then Versailles is a good choice. The menu is 100% Cuban and the prices are economical. Service was friendly and efficient and the food was very tasty.

This place is the best place to eat in all of LA. My husband and I have eaten all over LA and this place is seriously the best. The service is fantastic as we struggled to get good service at most places. The food is fantastic and I highly recommend it. Make sure you get the sample appetiser plate to share which gives you a bit of everything.

I grew up eating Cuban food, and Versailles is definitely the real deal. It's very similar to the interpretation of Cuban food that you will find in Tampa and Miami. Come hungry, because the portions are massive and you don't want to skip on croquettas or other appetizers. We had fantastic picadillo and lome soltado. Plantains were lovely, too. Versailles can be extremely loud if you come at a busy time. They are also able to accommodate large groups. I would love to return.

I eat there often, and love the rich taste of the food. For a quick bite, with not much atmosphere this is the place for Cuban food. The plantains and beans are great.

These restaurants (4 in total) are delightful. The food is delicious and plentiful. While my favorite is the half chicken, the pork is great as well. I've tried the calamari steak and friends have loved the steak and beans and rice. Each dinner comes complete with rice, beans, and plantains. I usually get extra plantains as they are wonderful. Their garlic bread is crispy and, if you're not careful, you'll fill up on it.

I am sure that every dish you try will be more than satisfactory. My friend and her family went for dinner. We got the fried fish, garlic chicken, ropa vieja, and the oxtail and they were all fantastic. (I only took a photo of 2 of the dishes). Every dish comes with a side of rice and beans and plantains. The portions are great and the price is right. You can't go wrong. Our tour guide recommended this place, and we were so thankful.

What can I say? I would guess this is probably the very best Cuban restaurant in the Los Angeles area. I happen to be Cuban-American and I was brought up on Cuban food while living and growing up in Miami. With that said, I really wanted to like this palace..I mean restaurant. I thought it would be like Varsailles in Miami. The restaurant Varsailles in Miami is a typical Cuban restaurant that has been visited by every sitting president since it was built. I thought, "jackpot!". Was I correct? Nah! I brought my best friend who had never had Cuban food. While she was asking the waiter for salsa and chips, I perished the menu with scrutiny. She asked for spicy sauce, and I advised her politely the Cubans do not typically use spicy sauce. I ordered the breaded chicken breast, congris and plantains! Hey, it was my birthday dinner! The breaded chicken breast was pretty good. Not great, no onions on top, just good! The plantains were okay also but not great either. The only thing they got correct was the congris! So what about authenticity at this Cuban restaurant? No offense to other countries but the waiter who waited on us was from Central America and had to keep asking the kitchen about typical Cuban food questions. So off to other things. In the desert department, that's a total skip! They did not have bunuellos (he didn't know what they were) and as a distant second choice I thought we would have hot chocolate and churros. Major setback! The hot chocolate is made with regular milk and not evaporated milk like any real Cuban establishment would serve! What the... Okay, this was definitely a disappointment. I have come to the conclusion that Cuban food in Los Angeles at a restaurant is just a fantasy! I went to Versailles! I know we're not in a palace outside of Paris but at least one would think they would be comparable to the Miami flagship restaurant. I don't think it's a coincidence they chose the name of Versailles to attract people familiar with the Miami staple! Was it too much to expect authentic Cuban food? Sadly, yes, but it's likely to be the best choice in LA. Sigh!

I've never been to Cuba, so I can't claim 1st hand knowledge of it's authentic Cuban style. I can however say that the food here is excellent! I think they started out with one restaurant on Venice Blvd. in Culver City, but have expanded to another on La Cienega, and perhaps more. The roasted chicken is sublime. The pork, amazing! I think no matter what you order here, it will be good. Not unusual to have to stand in line to get in, at least in the old days in Culver City. With your meal you get plantains and rice/beans. I want to eat here every time I drive by, and often do stop in for some takeout!

You must try the famous #6 chicken and ox tail! Their garlic sauce is legendary and you can ask for a side of it too. Prices are reasonable (10-15 for most dishes).
Great
Excellent service and superb food. I had the roast pork lunch special, which came with rice, the best plantains in the world, and incredible, melt-in-your-mouth black beans. This is a homey, diner-ish feel restaurant that is no frills but perfectly comfortable and very clean. Service was friendly, attentive, and efficient. Price can't be beat.
