This Italian restaurant is authentic with good food at a reasonable price. The menu is very diverse, the place is spacious and relaxing. I definitively recommend it!

Attended a retirement celebration dinner there. Extremely friendly owner and staff. Outstanding wine list, and a wide variety of REAL Italian food. Deserts to die for!! Very small place, so make sure and get a reservation, as even on a Wednesday night the place did not slow down until after 9 p.m. Also, VERY proud owner has a nephew serving into the Air Force in Afghanistan, and we very much believe in doing business with those serving America and their families! Typical mid-range S.F prices.

We found this place by accident, but we were pleasantly surprised. The interior is cozy and contemporary. My wife and I both ordered fish for lunch. Both meals featured very fresh ingredients, were well prepared and attractively presented. The service was excellent. And for San Francisco, it was reasonably priced.

My wife picked the place for our son's B'Day. And, it was a great choice. My son had veal chop, his wife risotto, both special of the day. Both are foodies. They loved the food, the ambiance, and conversation with staff and the owner. My wife had tortellini, and I scalopini saltimboca. We had eggplant for starter and pear with cream and strawberry sauce for dessert. Excellent! We'll be back soon enough for another celebration.

We ate here as family of 6. Fairly last minute booking. Great welcome & great food and wine. Our 2 vegan daughters were very happy with their pasta options. Great small pasta dish for our 5 year old. The little one fell asleep but in a very Italian family friendly way we felt able to stay & enjoy our wine . A lovely evening.

Our family has been here a dozen times while visiting San Francisco and have never been disappointed. We have some vegetarians so there is plenty to choose from this menu in addition to so many good veal and seafood dishes especially the veal piccata and the risotto with shrimp which was the nightly special this week. We enjoyed the Via Veneto salad while friends shared the calamari and the soup. We brought wine and the corkage fee was reasonable at $20 but there are lots of choices by the glass or bottle. The food is very reasonably priced for San Francisco and this neighbor is very nice.

Open for dinner times daily, this cozy, authentic Italian restaurant on the hip street of Fillmore is a hidden treasure amongst the boutiques and restos in this funky hood. The prices are surprisingly (too) reasonable for the freshly prepared dishes. I ordered the linguine del pescatore as recommended by our server/owner(?) and it was a quality portion of seafood. We even split the caesar salad between us because of its size. The staff was very personable and friendly, and there are definitely regular patrons at this family-owned business that has been here for over 30 years! Great for groups, families, romantic meals, business. Lots of menu options. White tablecloths, warm, relaxing ambience. It was not busy on a Monday evening. Highly recommend!

We are near Fillmore Street for Dr. appointments regularly, and choose Via Veneto each time. The fresh pasta is lovely. The olive oil served with garlic and hot fresh bread, is a delight. The last two visits we have had linguine and clams, very very good. The tiramisu a recipe from the family, is very authentic. I can recommend this restaurant very highly, as the owner and family are a delight, and the food very very good...

I just love this restaurant. The food is so delicious. The atmosphere is such fun. It's perfect for a date night, lunch with friends, a family reunion. It's just perfect. The owner, Massimo Lavigne, is handsome, funny, and a great host. He oversees everything and visits every table. The restaurant attracts a loyal following from the neighborhood (2244 Fillmore Street, Pacific Heights) and, from time to time, well known San Franciscans looking for great food in a charming restaurant away from the big deal tourist places. I've seen people swoon over the gnocchi. I love the linguini and clams, the chicken marsala (covered with gorgeous mushrooms), the petrale sole, fettucine Norma. It's all good. I don't eat meat, but I know people who go there especially for the lamb chops. The fish dishes are always the freshest. Massimo picks the best every day. There is always a special ravioli --maybe crab meat, maybe asparagus and shrimp, mushrooms--and also a special risotto. Simple things like minestrone, sauteed spinach, the spinach salad are great on their own. A full bar. Great wines. We've enjoyed being on the enclosed patio for a private party; it's also open for dining in good weather. It is the best. I go whenever I can and try to make the experience last. I almost hesitate to share the information because it will get even more popular! but it is so terrific. I didn't even mention the desserts!

We enjoyed a pleasant and delicious lunch on the weekend. The petrale sole was excellent - light, flavorful, and just the right amount of seasoning. The bonus for our party of six was the peacefulness and relaxed ambience that afforded conversation to be enjoyed among our group of retired friends. It was refreshing not to have to compete with a noisy bar crowd or intrusive elevator music.

We were looking for some good honest italian food, we found this place and immediately liked the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service. No faults with the food or beer and great valie. Recommended!

Visited friends in SF who frequent this restaurant weekly and have for many years. We were guests of theirs and the food, services, ambiance were all top notch. One of the most pleasant features is it's a local neighborhood establishment so the quality and service far exceeds the typical tourist trap or "corporate kitchen." If you have the chance make this an upper Filmore destination for dining.......and shopping too!

Wine list is good, service was pleasant, the restaurant was very noisy, and the Gnocchi was way over cooked. Try a different restaurant.

On our first night in San Francisco we stumbled upon this place. The wine list was ok, but not extensive and contained no other whites apart from Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio. Our starters of capriccio and bruschetta were very nice and good sized portions. Our mains of veal and roast vegetables and prawns and roast vegetables were not spectacular. I had the prawns and while they were nice enough (slightly too chewy, so probably a bit over cooked) the vegetables with it were undercooked (especially the roast potatoes). The wait staff were good, but we left feeling a bit underwhelmed.

Step into Italy when you enter the door of this fine Italian restaurant. The food was amazing. The pastas were suberb. I had the chicken and spinach and another in our party had the Cacciucco. All of our entrees were amazing! Great wine list -- and very warm welcome. When it was time to leave, the owner run into the street to get us a cab. Love this restaurant!

We ate here last night. I now see the restaurant is only in the top 25%. I am really surprised it is as low as that. The price/quality/value ratio says it should be higher. Sure Via Veneto doesn't have fancy dishes at high prices but it does Italian standards well in a welcoming atmosphere with good staff. The wine list is short but, again, value for what you order. It has a reasonable international selection. We took the waiter's suggestion for a Pinot Grigio and were well pleased with it, at a very reasonable price.

Excellent restaurant to go. Nice charming and the food taste like italy. I took fried calamare . They were good. I also took Gnocchi pasta . They were very good and homemade. For dessert, i choosed the Limoncello ice cream . This was very good. Service was great despite they were only 2 (waiter and the owner to serve). I recommend this restaurant for your stay in SFO

We have eaten here several times on visits to San Francisco and the food is consistently good. Some of our family are vegetarian so there were lots of options for everyone. Restaurants in San Francisco can be very expensive but Via Veneto is very reasonable with a varied menu and excellent service. The restaurant is on Fillmore street which is truly charming area. We have never been disappointed with the food or the wine.

When we lived in SF in the 90’s and early 2000’s we had but a 5 block walk to be greeted by Massimo like we were family. Coming back now for a seminar and visit with family it was like I never left. To watch Massimo and Carlos work the tables is like a symphony. I order the cacciucco, enjoy the calimari and shrimp frite and bruschetta and let Massimo pick the wine. The food is fresh, hot and well prepared. My older two kids are half Italian and sense the cultural welcome of “come, sit, eat and enjoy.” Cannot say enough good. Massimo you have once again been home away from home and I thank you.

We visited our son and girl friend for a long weekend in San Francisco. Our son picked this restaurant which is close by to his apartment. We arrived about 7:30 on a Saturday night and were promptly seated. By 8:00pm the restaurant was filled. The service was good. We asked the waiter to recommend a wine. He selected an excellent Malbec for us. It was moderately priced and quite good. Two of us had the Oso Buco, which was excellent. My wife had the Scaloppine Saltimbocca. It was good as well. Only con was the restaurant was noisy - probably due to a larger group near our table.

This place was recommended to us by a local. It was outstanding. The Neapolitan proprietor waited on us, personally, and told us of entrees available in addition to the menu. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My lamb chops were perfectly cooked and accompanied by seasonable vegetables. Wine list was carefully chosen and good value - not always true in San Francisco.

I've eaten at Via Veneto when it open in North Beach 20 + years ago and followed it to Pacific Heights when it moved. It's my favorite Italian restaurant in San Francisco. The food is authentic and varied. Always perfectly prepared and presented. The prices are reasonable and the amount of food is such that you never leave hungry. I've always enjoyed the friendly Italian staff and the neighborhood is great. I've moved from San Francisco and every time I return (yearly) I MUST eat at Via Veneto. No way I can be in SF and not dine at my favorite! Ciao Massimo!

It's a small neighborhood-feel style restaurant, the food was fairly good. The bread is not warm which is the only complaint.

I AM Italian...I know Italian food. This is good,, unpretentious and even slightly gourmet. The dishes, both pastas and meats and sea food are prepared well. /the atmosphere is also excellent. Not too noisy not too quiet.n Love love love it. Went the first time on a Friday and back again on a Tues. and back again on a Sat. And I live 37 miles away!!!

A real home run! We discovered this place yesterday, and realized, looking at the menu, it had the lowest pasta prices of any good Italian restaurant in San Francisco. I compare it to great restaurants in North Beach. The revive was impeccable: there was no rush, and we totally enjoyed the homemade pasta.

We had a reservation for a Sunday night and glad we had it. This is a popular place on busy Fillmore St. White tablecloths are an indication of the good meal to follow but not at all pretentious. We were 4 people and started with appetizers of Caesar salad and mozzarella caprese. Entrées were delicious grilled chicken and sautéed calamari. The bread was warm and very good with a nice crisp crust. A California wine enhanced the meal. Prices for the food were more than reasonable, prices for wine were, by California standards, not too bad. Service was prompt, polite and friendly. Definitely a place to go back to.

Adventure into Fillmore Street, near Japantown in San Francisco--walk up the hill and you will find boutiques, coffeehouses, original vendors and the best of all, Massimo and his utterly charming restaurant, Via Veneto. This little, softly-lit oasis from the street is a local favorite and many know just how good the food and service are here. Do not miss the pefect, little spinach stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer--soak up the delicious garlic sauce with bread you want to keep and take home! Then any of the three different veal dishes will satisfy your need for non-tomato based dishes. Their lobster-stuffed ravioli with the micro-tiny shrimp and finely chopped tomatoes on top is a masterpiece. Massimo, the owner, will come by to say hello and make sure you are happy. He is so proud of his long-standing restaurant and excellent reputation as a restauranteur and he is always dressed impeccably. Small wine list that Massimo chooses personally changes from time to time and quite reasonable.

(Would give it another "half" if I could. Wish the rating system was a bit more flexible.) This sunny/yellow dining room on Fillmore Street makes for an interesting contrast to the somewhat costlier, funkier options up and down the block. Good wine list, nice salads and perfectly decent pastas and entrees make for a perfectly pleasant and refreshingly unpretentious Italian meal. The veal and chicken dishes were pounded awfully thin (even for a cutlet/paillard) -- but the sauces were good. "Al dente" veggies and roast potatoes come with all proteins -- not terribly imaginative but definitely satisfying. Gnocchi was fine. (And our neighbors' rotini and fettuccine were complimented by those diners, too.) Overall a good if not great dinner -- and in pricey SF this is no small feat.

We had a lovely evening at this bustling restaurant, my husband had a New York steak cooked to his liking and I had grilled salmon also cooked perfectly, both meals came with fresh vegetables and sautéed potato and were delicious. We decided to try the chocolate and the lemon tartufos with the intention of having half each but as my husband was enjoying the chic one so much he refused to swap half way. I didn't complain as the lemon tartufo was fantastic. All reasonably priced and coffee was good, I recommend this restaurant.

This lovely restaurant has fine Italian food and authentic and friendly (very Italian) service at good prices. It's right in the middle of the terrific Upper Fillmore shopping and cafe area (great thrift shops too!) and has a lovely outdoor seating patio in the back.

Via Veneto is one of the uncommon restaurants that combines high end food and preparation with a wonderful home cooked experience and ambiance. We were graciously welcomed and ate at the large table near the front window. Our servers were patient and helpful. The specials of the day were great, as were the cocktails that several of us chose. The bread served to the table was fresh and crisp. All of the appetizers and entrees were delicious and distinctive. Roxanne made the evening extra special. Our desserts were light and flavorful but not overly sweet. I highly recommend a dinner here.

I wanted a quiet place for lunch as I was reconnecting with a college friend I had not seen in many years. I selected Via Veneto because of a few good reviews I had read on Trip Advisor. The restaurant was quiet, the food was excellent, and the service was prompt and friendly. We both ordered the main course chicken salad which was topped with crumbled blue cheese. It was delicious. I'd go back again without any hesitation.

Great food and service with very reasonable prices!

We have been coming here for a number of years now whenever we feel like real Italian food. Their clamari fritti is crisp but tender and fresh, the best in the Bay area. Also, their calamari salad is fresh, succulent, and delicious. We always get those for appetizers. The last time we were there last week, we had their specials - rack of lamb and haddock. They were excellent - the rack of lamb was rare as requested, and very tasty sauce. The haddock my wife had was also outstanding and succulent. In addition, steamed mussles and veal saltimboca, their menu items, are excellent. This is also one of the very few restaurants that knows how to make an East Coast style dry martini (ironic in that martini originated in SF and named after Martinez). Massimo, the owner, is gregarious but friendly and keeps the restaurant in shape and flourishing. The only downside is that this restaurant is not on Open Table (the Via Veneto's on Open Table are in Chicago or Los Angeles), and you have to call to make reservations

We dined at Via Veneto this past week and really enjoyed the ambiance. The service was great and we found the menu and wine selection delightful- A great meal- It is in a great location on Fillmore street - We will return again

I first dined at Via Veneto in 1954, fell in love with the food, was introduced to a wonderful Charles Krug light white, traded bad Italian jokes with the wait staff, and have looked forward to my next visit to this charming restaurant through its various regenerations over the years when I infrequently visit that gorgeous city by the bay Over the years as I became the very suave and sophisticated being I now am, my tastes developed and improved but I still find Via Veneto's vitello dishes welcome and delicious. This is the kind of restaurant one would come back to visit forever, though I am reasonably certain the original family operation long ago disappeared and that some corporate entity owns ands runs the establishment. Whatever, the current owners have done a good job of training and directing staff, including cooks, and this is still a charming place for family dining in a city where there is virtually no end of outstanding eateries even with Ernie's and the Blue Fox, among so many other old favorites, no longer available. I look forward to my next visit no matter where the restaurant may have moved.

Once in a life, i reserved a table in a italian restaurant abroad. Excellent choice. Fresh veggies (that we missed a lot in USA), good choice of main italian dishes (mainly pasta) well..”contaminated” with californian style. Massimo, the owner, combine italian attention to details with Anglo-Saxon discretion. If you’re looking for excellent, healthy cuisine in San Francisco, you cannot miss Via Veneto.

Good atmosphere Service-minded and sweet staff Really delicious italian food Gluten free pasta, too I have many allergies and they tackled it very well A MUST TRY

This is another North Beach Italian restaurant. I love Italian food, owners, restaurants, etc. Via is Not great but well above average. I went with friends who are regulars here. It's nice to be greeted by name by staff. Quiet suggestions as to better choices and off-menu items. Well above average food and service. Good just not gonna be great. Having said that, can't go wrong dining here. Enjoy.

Recommended by one of the staff at our Hotel, as we wanted a family friendly Italian without too much of a walk. Via Veneto was welcoming, full of character and good food. Service was slightly slow between courses as it got a bit busier, but that didn't detract from the evening. Enjoyed by us.

I knew we were in for a wonderful evening and dinner when the owner of Via Veneto waved at us from the front of his restaurant as we walked up Fillmore Street. This restaurant was recommended to us by someone at O'Hare Airport waiting to board the same flight as us to San Francisco. We struck up a conversation and he urged us to dine at Via Veneto. When we arrived at Via Veneto, Massimo, the owner, invited us to wait about 5 minutes for the sidewalk table to clear. We then were treated to a delightful dinner - as my girlfriend described it - "the best dinner of my life". Fresh Italian bread arrived quickly with a small dipping bowl filled with garlic cloves and olive oil. Next, Massimo surprised us with a complimentary serving of bruschetta. My girlfriend and I next shared the spinach, gorgonzola cheese and walnuts salad - scrumptious. We next shared the "special" risotto with prawns that ended up filling us up more than we expected. So by the time the sauteed wild caught salmon "special" arrived (in a delicate lemon, wine, capers sauce) and we could only make "a small dent" - and end up having to take home the rest of this absolutely yummy entree. Massimo's wife, Roxanne, checked on us frequently during the meal and the man busing our table also checked several times. While there is enough room inside the restaurant for large parties - Via Veneto is clearly the perfect place for a quiet, romantic dinner.

Had a really great evening here in Via Veneto.in May. We could have been in Italy - we were visiting from Ireland...! Massimo is the quintessential Italian both in his effusive advice about the food and wine and the flourish in how he serves the food - a true delight! Our food was also excellent, can well recommend the Via Veneto, you will be very happy with this choice of venue.

We go here every time we vacation in San Francisco. There is a varied menu, salads, antipasti, pasta, veal, fish and nightly specials and everything is delicious from the fresh bread with roasted garlic olive oil dip on. Salads are a nice size and can be shared, the bruschetta is a large portion and we ended up taking pasta and gnocchi home. We also tried the grilled salmon and the scaloppine with lemon. Their prices are very reasonable and on a Sunday night it was very crowded but service was still good. We would recommend a reservation as some people who walked in had to wait a little while.

This is our favorite Italian restaurant in San Francisco. It serves excellent, authentic Italian fare, and is flexible to accommodate special requests such as linguine pescatore with white sauce (the menu indicates a red sauce), which is my favorite. The calamari fritti here is perhaps the best I have ever had - very lightly breaded, perfectly cooked, with a wonderful, mildly spicy sauce. I always also have the calamari salad, which is fresh and tasty. My wife usually has Caesar salad, which is also excellent. Her favorite main course is one and a half portions of the steamed mussels, which are wonderful. My favorite is the linguine pescatore with white sauce as is the veal saltimboca, both of which are wonderfully tasty. For dessert, I find the crepes excellent, especially the orange flavored one. Overall, an excellent, intimate, friendly restaurant serving excellent authentic Italian food.

Friends took me here and it was excellent and very authentic. From the bread and olive oil to the lamb shank entree to the creme brulee dessert it was top flight. Will return in the future when in SF.

This restaurant seems to have stopped bothering. We had a delightful meal here on our last visit to SF 6 years ago. But it has lost it's zing. Staff half-hearted. Tables set haphazardly on paper tablecloth without glassware or any flowers candles or decoration. Menu formulaic. Pasta from a packet. Fish of day strange and unseemly combination of salmon and sea bass. Ice cream cheap and flavourless. Italian dining should be fun... This was humourless and not a little sad.

One of the best places to eat in San Francisco, fresh food and excellent quality! The welcome of Massimo then makes the experience really pleasant Highly recommended to all

For 15 years my favorite restaurant. I left SF10 years ago, and it was wonderful to return and find Massimo still at the center of this bustling wonderful restaurant. The cacciucco is still my favorite - tender, fresh and perfectly seasoned. On busy Fillmore, Taxi or Uber there and be sure to make reservations. We like to have Massimo choose the wine based upon what we are all eating. Very fair pricing for excellent food. You will feel as if you had been welcomed into an an Italian household as a favorite friend.

Decent Italian food in a quaint spot. Pasta dishes are fresh and simple.

My husband and I went to dinner here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was excellent, the waiter/owner was a very nice Italian gentleman who treated us well! It was highly recommended by our airbnb host.

I was visiting San Francisco and shopping with a friend near the Fillmore area. It was close to lunch time and we both wanted a place to sit, have a nice glass of wine and something lovely to eat. We found it at this little gem of a neighborhood restaurant. We ordered wine, then a plate of calamari, which was delicious. I settled for a lovely entrée salad and my friend had pasta. We didn't have dessert, just coffee. The quality of the food was unsurpassed and a great value. I loved the unrushed atmosphere. It truly reminded me of Italy with the clean white table cloths and well presented waiters. There was even a small outside eating area with scenes from Italy painted on the walls. This venue will definitely be on my itinerary during my next visit to San Francisco.

We were a party of 11 looking for an nearby reservation locally within the Fillmore St area and connected with Via Veneto shortly after opening at 6pm. I was first skeptical because of the prices, very reasonable, but lost that feeling after the first appetizers arrived. The usual calamari, very well prepared, accompanied by Caesar and mozzarella and tomato salads, all as good at the higher priced SF restaurants. Entrees varied between the petrale sole, various pastas, fish stew (generous shell fish in a tasty tomato broth), and veal. All positive comments, no complaints (which is unusual from a diverse party of 11). Good wine list leaning Italian; we enjoyed an Ischia white; again pricing on the wines was very reasonable. You can have a great time at the various San Francisco neighborhood restaurants in Fillmore, Union, North Beach, etc. I rank Via Veneto as one of the better choices especially with their easy on the wallet prices. It's a smallish sized restaurant so reservations would be recommended.

I've been here several times. They have a fun wine list and the food is always good. The staff are very friendly and willing to make suggestions.

Location is fine. We were seated quickly and the hostess was delightful. Orders taken promptly. Carpaccio as bland. Ceasar Salad I requested extra anchovies. I didn't get any. I had to ask for them again. The salad was bland without them. Main course was a penne pasta dish with panchetta. I had maybe three bites that had any panchetta. The pasta is not house made. There was a lack of checking back to see if everything is okay. The menu promised an amazing amount of tasty choices. We will not be back to explore further.

We shared the Gnocchi, Bruschetta, and stuffed Mushrooms. Wonderful food for a great price. Wait staff was friendly and attentive.

We went there late on a Sunday. My dining companions had seafood, which they liked quite a bit. I had gnocchi with spinach and gorgonzola. The gnocchi were very gluey. But the prices were reasonable, and the wait staff was friendly.

We came across Via Veneto while scouting Fillmore Street restaurants, and dined there on a Monday noon. It soon became apparent that locals love it: we were about the only tourists. That in itself is a recommendation. Service was fine and the food very fresh and good; salad, soup-du-jour white bean, and two veal dishes - piccata with lemon and with mushrooms, both delicious. The granite limoncello for dessert was light and fabulous, just the thing for having ordered more than a normal lunch. Wine by the glass servings were generous. A place to return to.

Our food and service was excellent. It was honestly the best Italian food we've ever tasted. The cheerful atmosphere made our dining experience one we will never forget!

We ate at Via Veneto after the Fillmore Jazz Festival and Street Fair. We have eaten there before and returning was a sign of trust. The three with me were very happy with their meals. For my part, I wish there were more vegetarian dishes. My salad the Via Veneto salad was quite good My zucchini soup was okay. I wish the lasagna was vegetarian or at least the offer of a vegetarian lasagna was available. The bread was not outstanding (that's not good in San Francisco, which has excellent bread), but the olive oil and garlic was quite good. The coffee was great.

We were back in SF and could not pass up an opportunity to eat at Via Veneto. It is in a cute neighborhood and is authentic and reasonably priced. We had the veal scaloppine, fish special which was salmon and sea bass, and some pasta dishes. As always, everything was nicely prepared and delicious. The garlic olive oil with bread was a wonderful accent to the caprese and house salad. We had a nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc from Sonoma that was perfect with the food. Service is attentive and the staff is very nice. We will return when we are back in San Francisco.

We were walking by early in the day when a stranger said we should eat there as it had great food. We actually sat down at a French restaurant that evening but left because of a screaming baby. As we were walking, we passed by Via Veneto and decided to give it a try. The food was amazing, the staff was overwhelmed, but was extremely pleasant. I highly recommend eating there. Be ready for some waiting and make reservations.

Came across this quaint authentic restaurant close to where I was staying. The service was spot on and the food was excellent. I had the special which was a salmon and risotto with tomato sand mushroom. It was outstanding. Also had the calamari appetizer. It was some of the best I have ever had. My mom had the linguini with seafood and she said it was wonderful. This was a great find and would definitely return.

We were greeted my Massimo, the owner! He is friendly and gracious and so adorable! The wine and the food and the great service all added up to a fantastic dinner!!!

What a welcome! The atmosphere is bright , cheerful and cozy, the service is impeccable, the food is DELICIOUS! Massimo and his beautiful family of staff made me feel like I was a very special guest in their home.

Wandered up Fillmore and decided to try this. Good Italian menu and a few tables in. Had saltimbocca and the seafood linguine. Both were excellent as was the wine. Good service too and value for money. Well worth a visit.

I love this restaurant. My father-in-law was Italian and this restaurant brings back memories of family dinners. One secret is to ask for recommendations and go with them. The owners truly care that you have an enjoyable experience.

This is the first time I write a comment on TA. Our family visited this restaurant of Nobhill in after the recommendation of the concierge of our hotel. Area is very nice, cable car not far, nice part of SF. That dinner was a total disaster. We are allergic to garlic, almost all the food includes garlic (I had a plate of bad simple noodles in a lake of oil), we opened 3 bottles of different wines, 2 were corked and one very acid (the owner asked other clients to taste the wines, thank you for the confidence....), himself having dinner with other clients and not taking care of anyone else... Bad food, bad wines, Obnoxious attitude...the owner should perhaps consider doing another job...A disaster. Finally the concierge who knows me well was very sorry and will never recommend this restaurant anymore. Pouark

As they say - those who are closest to the church are often farthest from the church. Via Veneto - in the neighbourhood, almost round the corner from where we live - was a chance discovery. One of the finest Italian place in San Francisco we have visited. Massilmo, the owner, is a charmer - who pied us with some choicest Single Malt Scotch and a fabulous Cabernet-Sauvignon. Their signature Rack of Lamb in Port Wine Sauce was divine and the Chicken Risotto near perfect. Great service to add to the experience.

I can't say this restaurant's food was very memorable. It was just ok, but I think it is rather expensive for the quality of food you receive.

My wife and I had dinner here on a Friday evening right after we got into town. Having just returned from a trip to Italy, we were excited to try some "Italian" food in the U.S. The food was good - we had pasta with seafood which of course was fresh. The poached pear for desert was divine. Overall was an enjoyable meal, the price was a little pricy though.

The owner is almost always there, lots of Italian spoken in the kitchen. Always try the specials. They have great salads and sandwiches during lunch, and wonderful pasta, seafood, and meat dishes during dinner. We often order their ravioli special ( sometimes lobster and crab with asparagus and tomatoes in a cream sauce ). When they have the meat lasagna I always order it. The steak dishes and pastas are always well received. We love popping in for dinner or often reserve tables for business dinners or when family is in town.
Cozy
While recently revisiting San Francisco, we wanted a restaurant that was a easy walk from our hotel & not too much of a fuss - Via Veneto was perfect. A comfortable atmosphere, pretty good food - great desserts! Nothing fancy or overly memorable - just a nice little restaurant - good way to spend an evening!
