Chi-la-qui-les! Chi-la-qui-les!

By Alberto S |

By far the best chilaquiles north of the border (from Mexico)! A nice small, family owned restaurant. I have not been there for lunch, but many times for breakfast (tacos, queso en salsa, ...) and will be coming back for more. If you order spicy, be ready for it . . . they bring it. Local and location are not ideal, but the food is worth it. Friendly staff.

Enjoyable meal

This was my first visit to Vida Mia and it will not be my last. It is a small establishment with a really good service towards the customers. If you guys order the ceviche you will not be disappointed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Muy buena comida, buen ambiente y gran servicio. Esta fue la primera de muchas visitas más.

One of the best

Fantastic, will return!

By WildHaireAdventures |

Ate breakfast here while in the area visiting and we really loved it. We tried various different breakfast tacos and all were excellent. The tacos were very tasty and portions were nice. The bacon, egg and cheese were our favorites. I look forward to coming back to try something different. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Having lived in San Antonio for years when I was in Air Force, I’ve tried alot of breakfast places and this ranks near the top! Can’t wait to return.

Excellent breakfast location

I've been living in San Antonio for a while now and have not had the quality of chilaquiles they serve in this restaurant until now. Excellent service and the food is even better.

Authentic Mexican food

This place has great authentic Mexican food, every day the menu changes and the food is really good.

Literally, a Hidden Mexican Gem

By BarryElJefe |

Sunday brunch. A small place that seats about 60, tucked into an indescript fold in a small suburban shopping mall. Nicely but humbly decorated with wood floors and wood tables and chairs, just well done. Comfortable, clean, and rocketship service. Food...FABULOUS. This is a breakfast and lunch place. They do dinner on Friday and Saturday, but it's a breakfast and lunch place. It's a complete menu with about 12 specialty plates, several traditional breakfast selections, and a full list of real Mexican breakfast tacos. The coffee was very good, full flavored and not the usual weak stuff from the chains. The chiliquilies we had, one with green and one with red sauce were some of the best we've had in San Antonio. The Pasole? Order a bucket of it, it's that good. The bill was very reasonable, the service fast and cordial and professional. Now that we know about Vida Mia, we'll be regular patrons.

Takes me back to Mexico!

By Evans1988 |

I'm a regular to Vida Mia Restaurant, I usually go to the Bulverde location. I have several favorites but my top favorite is "Chilaquiles Verdes con Pollo," it is a tasty dish with the traditional crunchy tortilla chips, queso fresco, tomatillo green sauce and tender chicken. They also serve a chorizo and egg plate made with real chorizo! Their caldo Tlalpeno is one of my favorites; a soup with chicken broth, vegetables, chicken, queso and other seasonings it always tastes fresh!

Family owned. Friendly and attentive staff.

I just happened to see this place driving through Stone Oak Crossing early one Sunday morning before church and there were several cars there. I went the following Sunday to try it out and then returned the next Sunday as well. The food and coffee are good. They serve breakfast all day - just just Mexican, but yogurt & fruit and oatmeal. When going to a new restaurant, you never really know if one breakfast taco will be enough, so twice I have ordered two and one is definitely enough. It's a small place and gets filled up pretty quickly. The owner often greets guests and it is easy to tell there are many regulars. Have been here once for lunch and the three of us enjoyed our meal.

Real good mexican taste

Mexican food not Tex-Mex

By Joe R |

this place has been a real discovery. Less than a mile from our house we didn't try it now it is a mainstay. They only do breakfast and lunch and close at 3 PM. I like to have lunch for breakfast and you can do that here. This is a major-league change from what you would expect from Mexican restaurant. This is not Tex-Mex. Incredibly authentic Mexican food. Handles my wheelchair easily. Pretty packed with locals of Mexican heritage. One warning, they offer half portions because the portion size is absolutely huge. So if you are looking for a normal size breakfast get 1/2 portion.

Great local find

With a highly accommodating staff, spectacular good, and a quaint ambiance we found Vida Mia warm & welcoming. We will definitely be regulars.

Best Stone Oak Mexican food

By fashionphotographer1 |

Best Stone Oak Mexican food. One of the best breakfast places as well. When family comes to visit from out of town, they request this restaurant very time. It is a smaller restaurant and popular, so it can be completely full. Still worth it though. My wife says that you can randomly pick anything on the menu and it is great. The employees are nice and the manager is nice too.

Good value and very friendly

By Ruben S |

My daughter was celebrating her birthday and we had a party of nine. The waitress, Linda, was very sweet and attentive to the needs of the group aging from 4 to 75 years old. They even gave us a complimentary birthday cake for us to share. We had a good time with excellent food, at a good price with a permanent smile from Linda and the owner.

Worth the search

By evelyn s |

This place is a small family run restaurant at the back of some other business places. You need to drive around the corner of Stone Oak Pkwy. The place is crowded every lunch time but their main attraction is their breakfast which is served all day long. Their menu has both the usual enchiladas and tacos and the authentic Monterey dishes that are very good. They are hard to pronounce but don't be intimidated by their names, try something different and you'll be surprise by how tasty it is. For the not so adventurous types they have their daily specials that come with free ice tea and the mild salsa. But if you want to be authentic ask for the hot salsa and watch out they do have a kick.

Another G-o-o-o-a-a-a-al!

By OmniEpicurean |

Spanish speakers know this place judging from the dining room conversations and for good reason. The food has a distinctive flavor whether you call it authentic Mexican or not that draws in diners like some pheromonal attractant. The queso dip tasted of mild cheese and light tomato sauce with hunks of fresh tomato. The chile relleno with picadillo had a light batter that had an unidentifiable savory quality which would probably best be described as "homemade". Same quality for the chile relleno stuffed with cheese and grilled - on the smallish side, it left you wanting more. The ranchero sauce that topped the chile was neither over tart from tomato nor too spicy, It made a perfect enhancer for the ground meat stuffing. Chicken entomatados are stuffed with moist white meat chicken but are lighter than their enchilada relative. May even set you up for a "taste great", less filling" argument with the enchilada connoisseurs in your party. Can't go wrong with the complementary fideo with beans served before the meal or one of the fruit filled empanadas for dessert. Buen Provecho!

Hecho En Mexico

By OmniEpicurean |

The food here is distinctively different. I am not about to use the "a" word (authentic), but the dishes offered are what you would more readily find deeper in the interior of Mexico than in San Antonio. A feature indicative of their effort to suit the customer's tastes is the fact that they serve breakfast all day. Started lunch with a complementary cup of fideo and bean with bacon soup. It is good enough that you will want to take some home . . . and they will sell you a container to go as well as any of the fresh salsas that they serve. Mini-tacos of steak (Arrachera) with a sprinkling of queso blanco, topped with grilled cebollas (onions) and doused with one of their excellent salsas or a generous dollop of pico de gallo are deliciously savory and filling. Enchiladas of shredded chicken in a piquant tomato sauce and topped with queso blanco were moist and satisfying. Except for one of our diners commenting on the chicken being a little dry on the sopes, nary could be heard a disparaging word. And that's saying something with respect to our usually fastidious group of diners. Try one of the dessert empanadas of apple, dulce de leche, pineapple or pumpkin. It's the Mexican version of the fried pies that I grew up enjoying and the ones they serve here are sweet and flaky. By $5.00 worth and you get a free cup of their delicious coffee!

Delicious and Wonderful People

By Heatros |

The owners are very sweet and proud of what they serve, as they should be. Everything was delicious, but the people made it even better.

Good food, not so good chilaquiles

By DTaxMan |

I have had good chilaquiles in several restaurants, but theirs is the worst. Their version of the dish is hard tortilla chips topped by eggs. Most of th ed other food is really good, but the chilaquiles are certainly not worth ordering unless you like hard tortillas.

This one is a bit peculiar.

By Mr. V |

Want authentic chilaquiles? You found your spot. Arguably the best authentic chilaquiles in town. I am from Mexico City so I can attest to this authenticity as far as taste and preparation. The food is spectacular, that´s not the problem. The problem is surprisingly the service. I have been here multiple times (25+). The worst thing about this place is the lack of consistency in respects to service. One day the food and service might be superb and the next your order will be completely incorrect and the service horrible. This has been my experience sadly. They will make you wait- especially on weekends. You will likely be upset that the food takes for ever and the two/three waitresses cluelessly walk around as if lost. You might even get a headache... BUT once the food comes it all seems better. A bit of a roller-coster ride. Is it worth it? Short answer- Yes.

Refreshing Change

By kknkrobinson |

In a town full of great Mexican food, this small mom and pop restaurant ranks high above most. The servIce is amazing and the food is wonderful. Make a point to eat here.

Great tacos!

By manuel l |

Best Barbacoa and chicharron Tacos in town, I love also the menudo. Excellent service! The best way to never forget my Country!

Not for everyone

By srvtx |

I see many good reviews but I wasnt impressed. I ate at the Bulverde rd location. I did not like the food. It is very different from the typical Mexican food. I have been to many authentic places from El Paso to Houston and this just wasnt very good. I know the difference between Mexican and Tex Mex. Service was super slow. Place was not.crowded. several open tables. Beef in the enchiladas was mushy, rice and beans were very bland. Prices are a bit on the high side but not extreme.

Regular customer

By Mr. V |

You might see a one star review by a regular customer and be a bit confused. I’ve been going to this restaurant at least once a week since it had opened. The chilaquiles are great. The service and management (especially owner) are horrible. I’m the type to go to a restaurant in a Saturday/Sunday morning and expect good food, good service, at a great price. This place is extremely disorganized. 45m to 1h + wait is insane. They SOMETIMES keep a list of who’s turn it is - yes, seriously. Other times, it’s wait and fight for the next table. The owner, meanwhile, stands in the register very nonchalant while madness ensues a few feet in front of him. He then has the audacity to come to our table and argue with paying regular customers. This restaurant has a lot of potential of growing past the two small locations in San Antonio. The food is great. The problem is the owner and disorganized chaos. There is another Mexican restaurant right around the corner called Sabrositas (I’m not affiliated to in any way) that is spacious and the food is probably better. Let the owner of Vida Mia sink his ship by himself. Not coming back.

Tasty Breakfast

By Musician3523 |

It was a beautiful, sunny February Saturday morning, a little on the nippy side of perfect, so it seemed right to go in search for a spicy plate of Chilaquiles. 2.9 miles and less than 10 minutes from my door I discovered the place to get them, Vida Mia. I chose the "Speedy Gonzalez' version from several different variations offered of this typical breakfast dish because it promised to be the spiciest, and indeed it was, and ordered it topped with a couple of Sunnyside-Uo eggs. Service was a little slower as the place filled up, but friendly and efficient nonetheless. Every now and then it is good to have a breakfast that sticks with you the whole morning while you're working. Highly recommended!

nice little hole in the wall

By monica_k840 |

Went at lunch. The place was packed and buzzing loudly with conversations. The food is good, not spectacular. No cumin! Yeah! The food was a little bland, could have used more chile (fresh). Overall good food. I will return.

Omg good!

By teresahughes65 |

Absolutely love this restaurant!! It was recommended to us by the hotel concierge and, wow, we couldn’t have been more impressed. We had the breakfast tacos: barbacoa, Nortenja, and chiliquilina. Just delicious. Server was so pleasant. Made me wish that I live in San Antonio! ❤️

Fideo, Tortas, & Albondigas - VM Definitely Speaks My Language

By OmniEpicurean |

We met one of the owner's daughters, Maria, when we were here for lunch recently. She, and our waitress Patty, were so cordial and affable that we could have been a family relation and not fared any better. Patty is from Guadalajara and just glows when asked about her home town and the food there. She convinced me that if I ever visit, I must try a local sandwich that is spicey but delicious, called a torta ahogada. Ahogada means choked or drowned and it refers to the hot chile sauce that one can choose to immerse the sandwich in. Sounds like a good excuse for a couple dozen ice cold Minervas, the local craft beer. Anyway, that led to her suggestion to try the Torta de Pierna that is offered on the VM menu which I ordered. We had the Chicharron de Queso again for an appetizer because it is so good with the fried cheese and homemade chorizo eaten with chips and guacamole. You won't see anything like this at your local taqueria or Tex-Mex restaurant! The Torta de Pierna, which is made with roast leg of pork, is one of the better tortas I have had with tender shredded pork and slices of avocado on a toasted bun. My wife's Albondigas are a Monday lunch special, but they obligingly prepared them upon request. These "porcupine" meatballs in broth are served with hunks of squash, tomato and onion in the soup. Although the three meatballs are large, they are relatively light due to the amount of rice that erratically protrudes ever so slightly from the surface of the meatball to form the imaginary spines of a porcupine, hence the name given by some to this dish. Along with their wonderful fideo soup, this is a comfort food recipe from the VM family cookbook. One of these future visits, I am going to have to get the recipe for that fideo with bean soup that is definitely good enough to make a meal of by itself. Maria described the recipe and the nature of its creation when she was a little girl and a difficult eater. She said this is a dish that her mother could always get her to eat and I surely understand why!

Monterrey flavored awesomeness

By SAHouPete |

Wow!! This Mexican food is unlike that offered in most other places. It is not TexMex and therefore the taste is different and by different I mean better. We had the chicharron de queso. We were expecting fried pork rind but what we got was a delicious blend of fried Chihuahua cheese with Mexican chorizo. Uniquely tasty! We will definitely be sampling all of their dishes on their menu to explore what other new flavors there are.

Authentic !

By mrmoparhemi |

We just moved to San Antonio and after I joined the neighborhood app I asked my neighbors for restaurant recommendations . Vida mia was at the top of the list . Being hispanic and growing up in the border town of Mission TX , I can Truly authentic Mexican food . The chilaquiles are you excellent and their menudo and pozole are on par with the best of them .

Crisp & Tasty

By Sausheim |

Stumbled upon the Bulverde location by accident but pleased that I did. Very good food. The bean/spaghetti soup served with my lunch was a nice touch along with the chips and three sauces. Had the beef tostadas which were above average. Everything tasted very fresh as opposed to many similar dishes at other restaurants. Would like to return and try some of the other dishes on the menu.

My Kind of Mexican Restaurant

By Immigrationdiva |

WOW- great Mexican food and not Tex-Mex but REAL Mexican cuisine. Wonderful ambiance, friendly and professional staff, excellent traditional selections and reasonably priced. This little gem on the north side of San Antonio is WORTH the visit, You will not be disappointed.

Good Mexican food in the Stone Oak area

By Patricia M |

The decor is nice and the service was excellent. We went during lunch. I had the chicken enchiladas nortenas and my son had the chilaquiles. Both were very good. Reminded us of the true Mexican food we have had in the Mexico and not the Tex-Mex food we are usually served. The tostadas and mild salsa they serve were also good. We went during lunch, and although we did not order from the lunch menu, they do have one available.

Authentic Mexican as it gets!

By Jorgec881 |

We have been patrons here since it opened. Family owned. The owners are from Monterrey, Mexico and are culinary trained. Take it from me, this is very authentic. It has nothing to do with Texas regional Tex-Mex cuisine that San Antonio is littered with.

a real taste of Mexico!

By RodWS |

This is truly Mexican, not Tex-Mex at all. Here you wont find burritos or enchiladas topped with cheddar...instead you find the real deal. I ordered the "divorced chilaquiles", delicious corn tortilla chips with melted white queso and sour cream smothered in red and green salsas, topped with 2 over easy eggs and pico de gallo. My wife had the same but with shredded chicken instead of the eggs. Both were heart filling and perfectly seasoned. Their coffee is also really good, full with flavor, unlike many other places were coffee is almost tasteless. The total bill came under $20 with taxes! it is really good for what you get! I will definitely go back very soon to try more dishes!

Great Breakfast!

By oldranger81 |

Some friends took me to Vida Mia for breakfast while visiting on a business trip - they were insistent on taking me so I could have some 'real Mexican food' and they were right! The menu is simple, while offering a good selection of authentic Mexican dishes - we had tacos, Molletes, and Soap De Fideo with fresh coffee - a yummy breakfast! The portions were large and freshly made and the service was great! Will be returning on my next trip to San Antonio.

Authentic mexican

By Ptownpinkster |

This is not your typical Tex-Mex restaurant it serves very authentic Mexican food, which I love! The restaurant itself is small but cozy and clean, the staff was very attentive and friendly. We got breakfast here, I was honestly disappointed with the portion size when I got the plate, but quickly realized it was more than enough, I wasn't even able to finish it! The food was delicous and flavorful and reasonably priced. I am definitely going to make a point to return to try their lunch and dinner!!

FI -DAY - O! It's a soup . . .It's a soup . . .It's a soup . . . It's as s-o-o-o-o-o-u-p

By OmniEpicurean |

Count on the lunch specials if you need introduction into the type of Monterey Mexican food they serve here. They have a different entree special for each day of the week. We have had a number of them and they have all been very tasty. The bean and fideo soup remains a favorite. Have a taste of the mild broth and cooked just right fideo with small beans. It's about as close to comfort food as you can get here. The fajitas, both beef and chicken, are good though a little extra meat would not be out of line. Always intensely friendly service from Patty or one of the other servers.here. This little Mom and Pop shop should be around for a good long while with the steady clientele, fresh food with some unique twists, and staff that seems to truly appreciate your business.

Business visit

By Thomas S |

Vida Mia was a quick visit with business associates. Before going to the restaurants they told me it would be busy, and it was bustling. The meal was good and for the number of patrons, timely.

Great lunch!

By Susan W |

Super happy to find real Mexican! Moved here a year ago and am surprised at how hard it is to find good Mexican vs. Texmex. This is very fresh tasting. Loved the different soups especially.
