Amazing food, bread, kababs, qutabs, amazing people, the owners and the cook are from Azerbaijan, a must ingredient of a delicious ethnic cuisine.

Amazing ethnic dive

This place is situated off Coney Island Avenue, with parking for about ten vehicles. The place is cozy, with nice decor. Our encounters with the staff was not bad, but he wasn't particularly friendly either; pretty much all business and abruptly serious. That was more than made up for by the delicious food that came in decent portion sizes, and in a timely fashion. I had the country style roast, which was very flavorful and tender. My husband had their lamb cutlet. I took a taste of his cutlet, and it was unbelievable; tender, juicy and flavorful. I will be ordering this next time. We had an appetizer of Kutaby with meat, which was very good. I also had the salad with smoked meat, which was excellent. My husband had Dushbara soup, which he enjoyed very much. We would definitely return.

I was looking forward to our visit this azberbejani restaurant but only cared for two items . Parking is an issue.

This place was advertised in my times as one f 100 best spots to fine this year. I beg to differ. The restaurant located off of Coney Island avenue has limited parking and although it has done outdoor seating the e term heat made sitting indoors a necessity. The decor is dark snd pleasant snd the wait staff is attentive. Other than the orientation n served with f sf our cream which was top notch h snd the baked almond stuffed pastry the food was sub par . It appeared that the audio was reheated snd my lamb tbs were mostly fat snd gristle. A total downer. It dies not deserve a rating of top 100. Restaurants in ny status of the ny times. Not even the top 500 , I sad m sad potty but re heated food as snd fatty lamb ribs do not cut it for me.

A treasure in Coney Is Ave

Since our initial introduction to this restaurant it has become our kitchen. All of our guests that we've brought to dine here has nothing but rave reviews from the appetizers to the flavorful, juicy lamb chops. We had tried most of the dishes on the menu & we have yet to find one my husband & I did not like. Prices are great, fresh salad & simply great quality of food. Service from Adrian, Michaela & the rest of the staff superb. Very attentive even on busy nites. BYOB a plus. Highly recommend .

Excellent food and service

Came here with my partner's family. The staff speak both Russian and English and have menus in both languages. We started with smoked fish and a Georgian "salad" made from eggplant, tomatoes, cilantro. For the main course, lamb kebabs-2 types. The food was absolutely amazing, fresh and flavorful. The restaurant is right next to a liquor store, which makes the BYOB policy easier. Parking directly in front of the restaurant was great. We will definitely come back our next trip to NYC.

An Azerbajiani gem in Brooklyn

By CinciMyth |

My cousins and their families treated me and my daughter to dinner at the Village Cafe, and it turned out to be one of the best gastronomic evenings during my visit to New York. True, we had to travel from midtown Manhattan to Brooklyn but, boy, was it worth the trip! The cafe is unassuming and set back from Coney Island Avenue. I noticed three outdoor tables when we arrived and all were occupied. We had a table reserved for our families inside the restaurant. One thing noticeable immediately was that most of its customers are local. The service was attentive, courteous and efficient. We had some time to wait for our party to be complete so I tried their dovga (yoghurt and herb soup). it was served cold and perfect for a midsummer night. What a delicious soup! I would like to taste it again but warm on a midwinter night. Our food for the night consisted of several types of salad (my favorite was the roasted eggplant salad), followed by the turkish liver and smoked mackerel with potatoes as appetizers (definitely the latter), and then culminated by a platter of various kebabs (go for the lamb ribs, lulya and liver...they were delectable!) I preferred the liver kebab over the turkish style liver, hands down. The lamb ribs and lulya were some of the best I've tasted. We ended our fabulous meal with baklava and another dessert (name escaped me); both were perfect capstone for an enjoyable food fest. Did I neglect to say that we were there for four hours and the wait staff served us efficiently, graciously and gladly throughout the evening until we called it a night?! One tip: if you run out of wine or any apperitif/digestif, there is a wine and liquor store next door owned by the same owners of the cafe where you can buy more and consume them in the cafe without corkage fee.

Azerbaijan Restaurant with unique food

By retiredcanadian_wpg |

Everything here is delicious. Start with the Journey to Baku - and eggplant dish heavily laced with garlic, tomatoes and peppers. The Turkish bread is hot and very good for scooping up the appetizers. Be sure to have the kutaby, thin pastries stuffed with various things - the lamb is particularly good. The kebabs are great - there are many more interesting things on the menu - so try them all

Love in the first bite

Been to many Southern Russian / Uzbek / Tajikistan / Bukhara / Georgian ...... restaurants in Brooklyn and Queens NY over the years, its one of my favorite food style and my family and I crave this food often - First time in Village Cafe, i must say this is one must be top three, simple decor, place is clean, parking right in front or a meter parking on the street, great fresh chopped salads, few amazing soups, unique meat stuffed bread and top quality BBQ shishlik, bring your own liquor, as for the $$ 9 of us (4 adults and 5 teens all with healthy appetite) some food left to go all for $260, must be 5/5

Good food, friendly staff, good prices.

This is my favorite casual place

This is my favorite place to have a casual meal!! Food is always delicious and fresh, service is friendly, atmosphere is homey. We go there every couple of weeks!

Village deserves a second round.

As we got tired of going to same favorite restaurants, I asked a friend for a suggestion. He highly recommended the Village Café as being cozy, friendly and delicious. All that they are. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was pretty much on the level we were expecting it to be. A bit different from our regular places, but still very good. Dishes were delivered to the table at a good pace, allowing us to digest and have a moment to chat. Alcohol is not sold on premises, so BYOB. Liquor Store is just next door, as an added convenience. Chicken Tabaka was laces with garlic and nicely pressed, as requested. Khash was a bit overwhelming for my tastes, but still very nice. Piti was great. Lobio, somehow had sautéed onions which I found unnecessary in this great Georgian dish. The classic Herring and Potatoes hit the spot just right. Plov with dried fruits was very nice. Do my readers get the point? As I mentioned earlier, I am still not sure whether I liked this place more that our regular Nargis. This place deserves another round of dishes to be sampled. The prices are right too, by the way.

Best Caucasian cuisine in New York

By AZIZ M |

I was very surprised, when I had dinner in Village Café with real Azeri food. It is really wonderful, because the raw products are very different, and get the same great taste as original is not easy. But the staff of this restaurant did it. Meat and chicken kebabs which are melting in the mouth. Amazing sturgeon, in classic style Azeri cooking, big variety of the snacks and appetizers. So, if you want to enjoy a great taste of food, welcome to Village Café. Thank you very much to all staff and to the owner of this restaurant for the great pleasure which I have got there.

Yes, its average and not better then that

By bookwithus |

I would say considering the type of food, there are certainly places in Brooklyn that are stronger than this one. The place is very quaint. it is located inside a liquor store parking lot. You really have to get lucky with a parking space though inside that lot. The cafe is clean and spacious for the tables they have. The menu has good variety, though when we were ordering, a number of things were not available. Prices are decent, but when you get the portion size it proportion to the cost. Found salads to be pretty standard and decent. Entries, besides that it took a while where nothing special to rave about. Overall, it was average experience. With prices not overly high, the bill should be reasonable, and you will leave full. But not sure if you will say this is unique or the best food as others are raving about.

Cafe Village, a Treasure of a Restaurant Tucked into a Courtyard off Coney Island Avenue

By JoyChristena |

This Azerbaijanian restaurant cafe is located on Coney Island Ave. near Kings Highway. It has a pleasant decor, somewhat rustic, and a lovely ambience. There's lively ethnic music, good service, and excellent food. A favorite of mine is the hot borscht along with some excellent warm bread with fresh butter. This large cafe is filled with plenty of picnic type tables and chairs. There are lovely artifacts and homey things adorning the cafe. I just discovered the Village Cafe, but I understand it has been around for four years. I will go back again and again, as the food is so good it's almost addictive!

Do not recommend these guys for food delivery!

By Anton G |

Do not order from them for delivery. One week they say ts ok if you order 2 lunch specials for free delivery, the other week they ask you for 3 at minimum. I told the manager about it and he said it couldn't be true, like i'm lying. worst guy ever and same the delivery service. Despite that, they make good food. it was always a pleasure to visit their place and order food before. But not anymore.
