Best Whiskey Burger in Philly

By Jay B |

Had the Whiskey King Burger which was huge and had everything you could want on a burger. We also had Duck Fries, French fires fried in duck fat and fried pickles, Both excellent side dishes. The beers on Tap were also a great selection from local breweries.

Quaint Bar, great service

By marlis1014 |

My husband wanted to try this little gem while we were in the city for a couple of days. The food & service were fantastic. Of course we went on a day that the A/C died and it was quite warm in there & numerous people left because of it but we stayed & enjoyed ourselves. The drinks were great & so was the food. We've recommended it a couple of times to people who are traveling to the area. We had the turkey hot brown & the pulled pork sandwich, they were both excellent. Great hidden gem in the city.

Great Food

By Merlinandme2013 |

I took a friend here after a visit to the Mutter Museum. The service was quick and friendly. We both had burgers. I enjoyed the Whiskey Burger, and my friend ordered the burger of the month--lamb. Both were probably the best burgers in the world. We shared an order of crispy duck fries and enjoyed dessert. My friend got a milk shake, and I got the baked Alaska. It was impossible to finish the dessert with our bellies filled with fabulous burgers and fries. There is an interesting drinks menu for those who are staying in the city and taking a cab or walking. The only problem for me was very loud music. The waiter turned it down when we asked, but it still was louder than is comfortable for me. I would not miss this place if I were in Philly. The venue is small, and the seating is limited. My best hint is to get there around four. Burgers here are expensive, so be ready to pay. But they are worth the cost.

Burger Perfection - squared!!!

By AkHasan |

I wanted to treat my brother to a special lunch.....one of the best burgers...period!! I had the Quacked Pepper Burger special - it came topped with crispy duck, foie gras, pickled onion and arugula. He had the Village Burger topped with cheese and fried egg. Chris, our service was excellent

Awesome food!

By manolo93 |

Visited for brunch on a Sunday morning, they open at 10:30am. We ordered the French Toast (Pecan Stuffed Brioche, Blackberry Jam and Whipped Ricotta) and a Chicken Sandwich, which has Peppers, Mushrooms and Sharp Provolone . The food was great, good portions and perfectly prepared. The bar is beautifully designed, and the service was excellent. Definetly will visit again.

We stopped in and had a few vodkas w fresh squeezed lemonade. Kentucky hot brown was delicious. Great little spot to while away the hours

Good service. Good food.

The skinny: I '"Yelp'd", a restaurant for burgers and fries. Village Whiskey, had 5 stars and was within walking distance from my location downtown. The food was hot, fresh and prepared per my request. I recommend this spot for a solo, couples or groups. I will definitely return for another visit. The meaty: I am in Philly on business and I was craving a "gourmet" burger and fries. I asked the front desk and they pointed me to a few fast-food locations. Fast-food was not what I was looking for so I "Yelp'd" a spot for burgers and fries and Village Burger popped-up. The reveiws were good and it was within walking distance to the Lowes. I walked into the tight reception area and was greeted warmly by the hostess. I was sat at a cushioned high-boy table with plenty of space between me and the next customer. The water was fast, my Kentucky mule was timely and the burger options were awesome. I ordered the medium Village Burger with duck fat fries. The ambiance was great for reading, trolling instaagram and Facebook while I waited for my food. The wait staff did not interrupt my peace of mind and when my food arrived it was hot and fresh. The burger was thick and well prepared to my order. There were more than a handful of fries and when I asked for a second ketchup I was not met with the usual "there a ketchup ration" response I get at some restaurants. My experience was awesome. I definitely recommend Village Whisky for a solo meal, couples outing (not a first date) or a group set. I will return.

Good Selection of Booze

By Vernon F |

Big variety of scotch and bourbons, rums and food. Just went to drink, friendly place, waitress's Aunt Flo might've been in town though.

1st timer

By MMTR6 |

had a very nice business lunch here. we were 1st customers when it opened, so not to busy. nice selection of beer. had a few local ones that were very good. The signature burger was had by my companion who loved it but couldn't finish it. We split the short rib fries. very unique and plentiful. the 2 of us did not finish. I had the Hot Brown which was very good. I make my own so was interested in how this would measure up. it was very good without being overpowering with the Mornay

Worst place, disgusted!

By Safari31372073933 |

Rude staff. Dishonest. Food was terrible and smelled. Don’t go here. The restaurant also smells bad. Worst place I ever been.

Creative, Warm, Nice Experience.

By Tommy C |

Very good food, professional service, and excellent Bartenders. Easy Rittenhouse location makes this a " Don't Miss "

Excellent brunch drinks and Salmon Benedict

By nylady21 |

The restaurant is tiny but has a quite well-stocked bar, as you'd expect from the name. We started with the Bacon plate which was a curated selection of tasty bacon. The Blackbeard with rum and cold brew coffee along with bitters and orange was exceptionally tasty. The salmon Benedict with brioche was served with a single egg and was definitely on the 'small plate' side vs. a traditional Benedict serving. I would go back for lunch to try the burger and mac and cheese which I've heard are delicious.

I like the name

By bbqmaster69 |

Just wanted to find a place that might be a bit unique and I found this place and I love trying whiskey. I told the lady behind the bar what I like in whiskey and she gave me a range of 5 that she thought I would enjoy along with a fantastic burger. I did try all 5 and they were all excellent and makes going to restaurants more difficult to choose my drink.

Visit the Village

By DawgExplorer |

We visited on a Sunday night and the restaurant was a tight space and somewhat crowded. The server did the job but was less than friendly. The tater tots were crunchy and perfect. The duck fat fries were very tasty. The village burger was juicy, flavorful, and quite sizable. The baked alaska was a wonderful presentation but not one of the better baked alaskas I have ever had.

If you want a table for lunch, come a bit early

By Viajante-gigante |

A bit of a tight squeeze but good service and very good food. Great burgers and fries. And the so-called cheese puffs are absolutely delicious. But be careful about showing up at noon for lunch -- often you will not get a table.

SO GOOD

By CreativeK |

BEST BURGERS! The drinks are great, the bartenders know what they are doing any the food is soon good. You have to get the duck fat fries!

Great dinner!

By AnnaConda27 |

We had a wonderful dinner at Village Whiskey! We sat outside at the cute tables set out on the sidewalk. Service was great and everything we ate was delicious. The pickled tomatoes with olive tapenade, ricotta, and bread was a favorite, as well as the duck fat fries. I would definitely go back the next time I'm in Philadelphia.

Great food and good drinks

By Leo K |

Came here with a big party of people, after some moving and juggling we got a table outside, glad they were able to accommodate a large group, since the place is not too big. The service was a bit questionable, not sure if our big party threw the waiters' chi off but he was a bit all over the place, ill give that a pass since we had 10 people. The food: -The pickled beets with toasted bread and goat butter was amazing. Tons of flavor, veggies were pickled just the right amount and the toast and butter were perfect additions to the beets -The burgers were a bit on the pricy side even for gourmet burgers. To add almost essentially any topping cost 1 to 2 dollars more, putting your burger well above the 15 dollar mark with no side, but as long as it's good what's another buck or two. -I got the village burger with an egg and split mine with my gf who got a king burger which came with fois gras. Both burgers had tender meat and had overall good flavor, really enjoyed both. However, the one thing i would not get second time is the fois gras burger because it really did not nothing to the burger from a taste perspective. -The duck fat fries were awesome, should not be missed -They have a pretty good cocktail menu, some a but sweet but overall good

Great burger!

By Steve K |

Great burger. A bit small but was worth the wait. Decent whiskey selection but really all you need to do here is order the whiskey king burger and enjoy!

Wanting to go again

By DeegsChicago |

Short Rib Duck Fat Fries were unbelievable. Had the Whiskey Burger which was great, but once overshadowed by the fries......bartender Stan made me one of the best Manhattan's I've ever had.

Hidden Gem!

By B A |

Village Whiskey is an American style bar/bistro with outstanding food! Every bite of our lunch was delicious! The French fries fried in duck fat was heavenly as was the "burger of the month". That burger was one of the best burgers I've ever had! The hot turkey open face sandwich with a white sause was great as well!! We also had the mixed fruit pie with a homemade white chocolate ice cream!!! Simply wonderful!!! the bar was complete with everything u could think of to drink and the beer on tap was ice cold and fresh. The staff is warm and inviting. The place is a bit small but it's cozy and nostalgic. Go to Village Whiskey!!! it's really good!!!

Best Burger in Philly?

By travlr36 |

A colleague and I visited Village Whiskey for what we were told was the best burger in Philly. I ordered the Village Burger (topped with jalapeno bacon, smokey bleu cheese and caramelized onions) and the duck fat fries. While tasty, I wouldn't consider the burger one of the best I had ever had. It was average. The jalapeno bacon tasted like regular bacon (salty, no heat), and the smokey bleu cheese was just like plain old blue cheese. The duck fat fries were good, but were over salted to the point where they were had to eat. I can't comment on the food that my colleague had, except that she said it was average, nothing special. Overall, the food is average, nothing to write home about. The whiskey menu was impressive, I would go back for a drink any day, but would probably skip dinner.

Village Whiskey

By chrisab1959 |

The food was excellent, but there's only a few tables. We had to sit at a counter next to the kitchen and restrooms

Yes I'll have some duck fat fries!

By Sweetjane0808 |

I wanted a burger for my birthday and it was a no brainer choosing Village Whiskey! I tend to visit Village Whiskey mid afternoons- late lunch so it's a nice crowd- usually no waiting for seats at tables or at the bar at that time. burger options are perfection as well as an enticing array of specialty cocktails that never disappoint!

The Best Hot Brown You'll Find!

By Joe R |

Having gone to graduate school in Louisville, Kentucky, I've eaten Hot Brown many times in the Brown Hotel, where it was invented and perfected. So, I know what it's supposed to taste like. Iron Chef Bobby Flay's Hot Brown in his NYC Bar Americain is superb, but Iron Chef José Garces has one-upped him with his version at Village Whiskey. The sauce is so good it makes you moan. We started our meal with the Crawfish Hushpuppies, which were not much like traditional hushpuppies, but were tasty nevertheless. The Deviled Eggs' seasonings elevated them to a new level. All in all, a great meal. If you've never tried Hot Brown, you NEED to go to Village Whiskey. It's definitely worth the trip!

Order a Whiskey and Burger

By Frances C |

This place is a fun smallish local spot. It has good food and a fantastic selection of whiskey and other spirits like the name would imply. The people at the bar were friendly and the bartender knowledgeable. I will definitely make a return trip.

Expensive and Not so great service.

By Stephani S |

Went for lunch after searching the internet. Service was poor had to ask for napkins when served finger foods, server looked at us as if we were nuts. We were left to sit in hot sun for 20 minutes after our plates were cleared and we had to wave down our server. Food was OK but very expensive. $7 for 8 oz glass of beer.

Best Bourbon Old Fashion and Burgers!

By Skylane_Dave |

We finally had a chance to go to Village Whiskey and it did not disappoint. I love a good bourbon old fashion, and I have to say, this was the best. Had the fried shrimp and the village burger. Everything was excellent. Best place to go if you want a really good burger. It's a small place, they do not take reservations and it fills up fast. My wife and I sat at the bar.

HOLY CRAP BACON

By oskibabeo |

We had a gift card so we went for brunch one Sunday. Two words: BACON FLIGHT If you love bacon, you must go here and you must get this. I still dream about this at night. The shrimp and grits were plate licking good as well. It's a bit pricey and I don't know if we would have been able to afford all the little extras we got. If you CAN afford this - go. Go and get the bacon.

Afternoon stop with friends

By AJ Who |

Stopped in for a few drinks and a late lunch. The staff was attentive and very professional. The whiskey and scotch selections were vast and reasonable. I was drinking manhattans and they were perfectly crafted. I had the house specialty a whisky burger. It was very good on par with a Red Robin type burger. They had some outside seating and typical Philly parking aka plenty of places but not cheap. I classify a great place to start a night or afternoon out as it sets a festive mood.

Great service and burgers.....but

By mjajjq |

My wife, son and I had been looking forward to the having lunch at what is considered one of the best burger places in Philly. We weren't disappointed with the burgers and duck fries. Very good! My wife ordered the patty melt. Make sure you like rare for the burger because if you don't say something you'll get rare. Beer selection was good and their whisky menu very good. My son and I will be back.

Good food

By 151Traveller2 |

Village Whiskey is conveniently located in the center of Philly, not far from Rittenhouse square. Has nice indoor & outdoor seating. The menu is small but good, especially if you're here with a group it will likely satisfy many tastes. Service was good, until we received the bill. We were a pretty big group and they only allowed us to pay with 3 or 4 creditcards, a little disappointed as this was a lot of hassle for us.

Jose Garces has duck fat flowing through his fingers!

By RedLyght |

If it's a Jose Garces restaurant you have high expectations when you take your first bite of anything in the establishment. Even if it's just a French fry. Nom nom nom! He didn't miss the mark with Village Whisky or with the fries. It's unfair really. Fries are already addicting then you go and make them duck fat fries. Well you gotta taste them for yourself. If you read my review on The Brindle Room in NYC which I tried because they landed on a top 25 list for their burgers...well this place is one reason why sometimes lists can't be trusted. The burgers here hands down are better.

Good burgers

By Ronen99 |

Had a nice burger there. Charred on the outside and medium on the inside just as it should be. The only downside to it was that it is a little on the small size.

We love lunch at this place.

By Susan S |

Great hamburgers and a wonderful wedge salad. We order one of each and split them between the two of us. Half of the burger is plenty of meat and the salad is delicious with wonderful creamy dressing.

Great Meal - Excellent Service

By Tammy_Hikes |

We stopped at Village Whiskey for an early dinner on a Saturday. My fiance got a burger, which he loved. I ordered the veggie burger since I don't eat meat. Unlike many other restaurants that simply serve frozen patties - this was made onsite. It was really tasty. There were many cocktails to choose from. We sat at the bar since all of the tables were full when we arrived. The bartender was very helpful and kind. We would definitely go back again. FYI - it's a very small place and the tables and seating is first come first served. Don't be discouraged if there is a wait. It was worth it.

Great place for food and drink !!!

By Tori F |

Great food, Great cocktails, great service. The fried pickles are really delicious and the burgers are cooked perfectly.

Average over-priced Burger

By GoPhilsGo |

For a place known for thier burger, I was disappointed. It was good, but I have had just as good for half the price. To be fair, my husband had the pork sammie and it was amazing. This place could also do something about the beer selection. The fried pickles and the cheese fries were both average too. Advice: Opt out of the burger for the pork sammie or go across the street to Shake Shack.

Late lunch stop in!

By MH9727 |

The place is small but worth the tight squeeze into the table or bar! The whiskey, scotch menu is extensive, however, the food is incredible. We tried: pickled cauliflower, short rib duck fat fries, cheese fries, pulled pork sandwich (superb), chicken sandwich with spicy peppers, cheeseburger. Everything was delicious and I would go back to try all of the pickled veggies! They come with toast and ricotta for spreading with the pickled item. Delicious. The short rib duck fat fries are definitely indulgent and large portion-- be prepared to share, though you may not want to!

Awesome place.

By Andyb3029 |

Saw this place on The Food Network show Burgers, Brew and Que. Amazing burgers. Great beer and whisky selection. Will definitely go back. It was pricy but let's be realistic....it's a boutique restaurant in downtown Philly. You want a cheap burger? Find a McDonalds. If you want a great dining experience in a hip cool establishment, that you will tell your friends about when you get home.... check out Village Whisky. Oh yeah, the duck fat fries and the Maker's Mark whisky milkshakes are killer additions to any meal choice! Our server was knowledgeable, friendly and very attentive. The location is small but quaint. Seriously wish we had a place like this in my city.

Got into Philly late.

By sallyg899 |

We had to be on a train at 5:40 AM the next morning so this was very close to the ArB&B where we stayed and we did not get to Philly until 8 PM, so scouting around for food was not an option. We were very pleased, the guys had burgers and were very happy with them, my daughters chicken sandwhich was good, I had a wedge salad and was happy with my choice, since eating late is not a good option for me I was cautious. The fried pickles were excellent and the regular fries the others got with their sandwiches were probably the best fries I have had in a long time in any food venue. We did sit outside because of a private party inside, but although there were people walking, we found it fine and not very noisy at all. Everyone was happy with their drinks. I would go back.

Hamburger Heaven - and Excellent Appetizers

By RPMPhilly |

We usually go to Village Whiskey for the outstanding burgers. I love the classic burger with the egg, special sauce, avocado, and cheese, LT. Don't wear a suit like I did the first time. You wanna go there understanding you might need a few extra napkins. It's a laid back place. This time tonight I felt I had to get something healthy since I'm on a quest to lose some more LBs. I tried the Cobb Salad and was not disappointed. The iced tea was not glurpy and hence it was fresh and I had a big fat lemon that could produce real juice for my drink, a plus. The staff there is fine, experienced, and they clearly try to make you feel at home. If you have to wait to be seated, as is often the case on the weekends, you can wait next door at Tinto and have a drink (same owners) and they will notify you via text. I enjoy the menu and have tried several of the appetizers over the past three years and find the creative options quite fun. Yes, the tables are small and the bar is crowded. However, once you get settled in, it's easy to get cozy and lose track of the tight space. This is, after all, a burger joint and it's in a large city with limited elbow room and the ambient noise is just part of the experience and culture.

Good burger place

By Nancy G |

We came here on Sunday 10/16/22 for lunch. We split the popcorn shrimp to start. It was good, but very spicy. For entrees I had the smash burger with one patty. My husband had the same with two Pattie’s. We also had the fries. I enjoyed my burger. My husband thought it was so-so. The fries were very good. Our waiter was extremely friendly and efficient. He was the only one working the room, but handled it well.

Great Bar with Ambience

By montereydream |

Met a friend on a weekend afternoon for a leisurely lunch. Great wait staff and ambience. A bit pricey, but it was worth it. We never felt rushed. The menu is limited and the amount of whiskey brands they have is unbelievable. My friend enjoyed the porter beer and a whiskey. I absolutely adored the Bee Charmer. Delicious! The food was really good and we shared the duck fries. Delicious without being greasy. I would go back in a heart beat!

Worth the struggle to get in

By Philip N |

Go for lunch....or go early because it's a small place and you'll end up waiting over an hour otherwise. Awesome bourbon / whiskey selection, insane duck fat fries, and the burgers are ridiculously good. They are large burgers, so if that's not your thing, you can go to Shake Shack next door, but Village Whiskey is in contention for best burger in Philadelphia. If you like Foie Gras you can even get that on your burger

Great Lunch Spot!

By shellyz |

Village Whiskey does it right from start to finish! The apps and entrees are amazing! The portions are big and tasty. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable in assisting with entrée selections. I would definitely stop here again for lunch!

Neat and fine ... Good Burgers and great selection of Whiskey

By JUW65 |

Just to mention here, once in Phllie you may stop by here for a good burger and great selection of single malts. Its a small (very small) bar - but the outside seats are nice watching the people passing by while you enjoy foods and drinks. Cosy place in parallel to the crowded Chestnut street. Definitely a recommendtaion - that's why I post this here.

Killer food

By Edward K |

While visiting the two couples that went shared brisket smothered fries cooked in duck fat, duck fat fries ,I had the chicken sandwich with sharp provolone mushrooms and long hots, everyone else enjoyed the burgers, The service was awesome the food was quick and done to perfection, I highly recommend a lunch visit.

MMMM....Duck Fat Fries & Hot Brown!

By jkp1930 |

Came here after happy hour w/ friends. We each ordered a little something different to get a taste for the place. Duck fat fries, hot brown, bbq pork sammy, and chicken sandwich. All 3 of us loved our meal. Service was excellent, and sitting outside on a crisp evening was a nice experience.

Good burger, nice place

By prcgian |

Nice atmosphere and great selection of burgers. I stayed at the bar and the service was good and quite fast. The burgers are of an high quality.

Whiskey bar with great food

By Hiro S |

A small place in Philly for whiskey and some great food. Can't go wrong with French fries made in duck fat. Nice sandwiches and burgers.

Fantastic burgers!

By Chris K |

Well worth finding your way through Philadelphia to eat here. Simply one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. The featured burger for July was the All-American burger with cheddar, bacon, and carmelized onions. The Whiskey King is also a popular and delicious choice, or you can customize your burger the way you want. The duck fat fries are also worth a try. It is a little pricey - a burger alone is going to run you $18-20 before adding fries and drink - but it is worth it.

Drinks!

By Dallas D |

Came in with a friend for a drink after a conference. Very extensive list of whiskeys available. I opted for a Bulleit 10 year and then a house old fashioned. Great service and warm atmosphere.

Wait for it..wait for it...... wait wait wait

By jjkirby |

Waited 40 min for a scotch!!! No blender needed nor muddling, ice, or garnish. Just a glass and someone to pour it. 5 of us went last night after work. It took a reasonable amount of time for three manhattans to arrive, & the kitchen was cranking out the food quickly. Food even arrived before any cocktails. However after 25 min I was still waiting for a neat scotch to arrive when I was informed they were out of what I ordered. So I gave a 2nd & a 3rd option just in case. We ordered more food and waited. About 40 min and a neat scotch finally arrived (my third choice) w/ a standard “sorry about the wait.” I asked for the check and we went around the corner to an Irish bar instead. Village WAIT has a nice selection of scotch as you would expect and It’s a small place so I could see so many of my favorites sitting on the shelves as I waited. The place wasn’t even packed during the entire time of our stay seats were consistently available.

A Sunday Burger in the Big City!

By Mike A |

The Village Whiskey is a really cool and fun place to be for lunch or dinner. The burgers and their different toppings were out of this world. I am not a big meat eater, but the beef grade was quite impressive and fresh. The Duck Fat fries are an added bonus! Great bar with a variety of good beers and cocktails. The restaurant staff were a delight!

WOW - It's gone downhill

By Cheryl C |

What a huge disappointment - we used to frequent this establishment when we lived in the area. We moved to FL last year and came back excited to stop in for a drink after the comedy show at Helium. The place was not it's usual packed and lively atmosphere at all. This was a FRIDAY night! They did last call at the bar at 10:00 pm? We were sure this was some sort of mistake - but NO - they informed us the owner has told them to shut down if less than "x" number of people were there. We saw them turn away a party of 6 who wanted to come in for drinks because they were closing. This is such a terrible way to do business. We walked further down the block and spent our money elsewhere. My husband is a true whisky connoisseur and it was a shame that after 2 drams of good whisky we were basically told we had to leave???

Date Lunch

By Dale L |

We came for some much needed alone time. Our lunch was perfect! We sat at the bar and the bartendress was the nicest! She made a great Bloody Mary and poured a healthy beer. We really indulged. We began with ordering asparagus and shishito pepper pickle. It was presented so lovely. The pickles were accompanied by ricotta cheese, olive tapenade and perfectly toasted bread. The flavors were incredible! We each ordered a burger and mine was topped with truffle mushrooms. The burger was juicy and delicious and the brioche bun was delectable. We ordered duck fat fries which were addicting. The food and the service were truly special and we will be back!

Good food, okay service

By Alex S |

Super disappointed in the service tonight. I want to qualify this review by saying that my girlfriend and I are both servers in NYC. She serves at a three Michelin star restaurant and I serve at an upscale restaurant in Chelsea. We both understand that working in food service is tough and we hate it when people weaponize their reviews. That said, our server Elizabeth was awful tonight. We had come in for happy hour and left thinking that we were going to have dinner elsewhere. Our dinner plans fell through so we decided to come back to Village Whiskey for dinner. When we came back almost two hours later, our original bill and dishes were still sitting there on the table. Kind of odd that nobody would buss the table after such a long time but no big deal.. once we sat down again, she was incredibly short with us because she couldn’t wait to get back to the back of the restaurant to talk with her coworkers and text, charged us for fried pickles which we did not order, and lied to us about what their well vodka was. She said it was Tito’s… nobody’s well vodka is Tito’s and, since we are servers we thought that sounded suspicious so, before leaving, we asked the bartender what the well vodka was and he confirmed that it is NOT Tito’s but is New Amsterdam… again, we get it, serving tables on New Years Day is probably one of the last things you want to do and the difference in price between New Amsterdam and Tito’s isn’t a big deal.. but at least pretend to care about your customers and definitely don’t lie to them in an attempt to upsell… not a good look. Also, she cleared our dishes when we weren’t done eating. We had almost half of a Cobb salad left, she grabbed it and, as she was holding it said “oh were you done with this?” And we felt odd saying “no” so we just let her take it..That said, the food is pretty good and we had a lovely server the day before for happy hour.. which was why we came back today..

Very Popular

By Michael S |

We had figured it would be tough to get a seat a the bar. We really wanted to experimet and try new whiskeys. We started at the back and as it got later and the bar started to open up we were lucky to get a good spot. The bartenders were helpful and made the wait worth it.

Whiskey, Beer & Burgers in a Cramped Setting

By B-Rent |

Pros: - OUTSTANDING Whiskey and Scotch selection - Incredible Burgers (Great tasting & fairly large) - Very good Duck Fat Fried French Fries (could use a tiny bit more salt) - Nice atmosphere/decor - Very knowledgeable bartenders. The first thing I noticed was that the bartender tasted every drink before he sent it out (by dipping a straw in the drink, removing it and then tasting the straw). The mark of a true professional. - Efficient servers Cons: - Extremely tight surroundings: We had to wait 20 minutes for a seat and attempting to stand around the bar and not get into the wait staff's way was nearly impossible - Tables are very small & packed close together. Our table was bumped numerous times by the people next to us each time they got up from their seats. - Could use better signage out front. Can be hard to find if you haven't been there before Will definitely return because of the great food and whiskey selection. However with most things in life, timing is key. While it was pretty busy at 5 pm on a Saturday, I imagine it would unbearable during peak times.

As good as they say!

By arettberg |

Excellent food. We had the short rib fries, burger special, and village burger and everything was delicious. The food was flavorful and the perfect lunch. We sat at the bar and were able to watch the bartender make some very interesting cocktails for other patrons. He also make a few for us that were spot on. We hope to visit again soon!

Can't wait to go back

By Denise |

Loved the vibe, and the bourbon flights were super tasty. The pimm's cup was also great, every gin drink I tried I would order again. The duck fat fries with cheese sauce are an absolute must. I also had the lentil and black bean veggie burger topped with caramelized onions and goat cheese... unreal.

Great feel!

By Melissa M |

the atmosphere was lively, and they lived up to their name--extensive list of whiskey and scotch. The meal choice seemed to be the burger, which was also quite good. Really enjoyed the experience.

Service good but tiny place

By GSQrider |

Very tiny place Most tables were for two and therefore wait for table for 6 was very long Two of our party left and despite the remaining four willing to squeeze in a table for 3, hostess refused our request. We ended up eating at bar. Pull pork sandwich was very good and bartender was excellent.

Amazing food!

By Capsfan007 |

We go here every time we visit Philly. Have not been disappointed yet. Burgers, duck fat fries with cheese, pickled beets and clam bake are awesome. Small but very cool spot. Great whiskey selection.

Must eat here!

By Michelle Wacker |

Loved everything about this place. Two of my friends are vegetarian so we decided to go here for their highly acclaimed veggie burger. Wow! Best one I have ever had. Beans corn lentil combine in this mouth watering delight. The picketed cauliflower with tapenade was spot on perfect! I ate the pulled pork sandwich but I added on a fried egg and the jalapeño bacon. So good. Our bartender Chris was fascinating to watch. He can make any drink out there. Perfect place with great ambiance.

Great time eating at the bar

By SDS769 |

Stopped in for brunch during Labor Day weekend with our nephew. We were planning to try Day by Day but the line was out the door so ducked into the bar at Village Whiskey. We thoroughly enjoyed chicken and waffles, the Village breakfast and the Rittenhouse Benedict. Great service from the bartender and fantastic cocktails. Highly recommend the old fashioned and the Brown Derby. We'll be back!

Trendy & Tiny

we went for their Pope menu which was just one special burger for $22.00. The food was good, but not for the prices charged. It is tiny and you have to like the person with whom you are dinning and hope that you don't get seated by a rude diner. The bathroom is unisex & wasn't the cleanest. Not at all what I expected. The decor was neat and no TVs was wonderful. I'm not disappointed we went, but I won't be going back. My burger was good, but nothing special. As one person put it, "A $22 burger and a unisex bathroom do not go together." It's trying to be very trendy and high class, but misses the mark.

Great burger and whiskeys

By Scott M |

If you want a really really tasty burger made with fresh flavorful high quality meat on a very nice roll, and you want to pair it with one of maybe 50 carefully selected whiskeys, this is the place to go in Philly. Had really good service. The place has a very pleasant vibe. Hope to go back many times.

Upscale for Bar Food

By Thomas C |

Our party of four met for dinner and we were all happy with this restaurant. Two had burgers; one raved that it was the best burger ever, and the other raked their burger in their all-time top three. Another had pulled pork and also ranked it her her all-time top three. I order what turned out to be an open-faced turkey club. While it was tasty, it was not very filling due to its small size. The french fries were absolutely delicious. The only criticism is that this place is more of a bar than a restaurant. As such, our party of four was seated with two round pub-tables pushed together forming a figure-8 configuration, the length of which was then slid parallel to some bench seating. While our wives sat on the long-side bench seating, the opposite side had to remain open as it was the main aisle way for the bar. This forced the two men to sit at the top and bottom sides of the figure-8 with about 6' distance between the two. Consequently, dinner conversation was difficult to say the least.

Great Burgers

Had a short wait for a seat but the food was terrific. Had the Whiskey King burger with the Foie Gras, expensive but awesome. And the duck fat fries are to die for.

No show

By kathyms102016 |

Arrived yesterday for our confirmed 12:00 lunch reservation at Village Whiskey only to find it closed. While my group stood in the rain outside I called and was told they had decided not to open until 3:00! No call, text or email to alert me. I don't care how good the food might be I would never consider returning. Not only is it bad business it's rude.

Soooo yummy!

By BStraiton |

A burger with foie gras! So good I can't even explain. Everything is tasty from the drinks to the burgers and must have fries. Make sure you have a reservation as seating is tight.

Great spot near Rittenhouse square.

By Rich V |

Met friends for an overnight in Philadelphia. Went to Village Whiskey for a bite. Lots of great craft beers and you have to get fried pickles as an appetizer. Shared a burger and the duck fat fries with short rib. Both were outstanding and the burger was cooked to perfection. As the name suggests they also have quite an extensive Whiskey selection and Patrick at the bar was very knowledgeable about the spirits. Highly recommend it.

Best Burger

By BWLtravels |

A Village burger cooked medium so the juices just ooze all over with the first bite. Add blue cheese and a touch of California with creamy avocado. Hold that picture and savor the mouth watering deliciousness. Now add a round tin of crispy duck fat fries accompanied by cheddar sauce. Next to it on a cozy marble top table is an ice cold beer. Perfect summer lunch at the Village Whiskey one of my two favorite places in Philly.

Whiskey flight

By maxpaste |

We came here for the whiskey after dinner and were not disappointed. They have some interesting flights plus a huge list of singles. They seated us at a table even though they normally require you to order food. This is a very small but fun place.

Great bar...and great food (duck fat French fries) WOW

By Foodie |

Went with a buddy, great service, quiet night mets at phillies so not rush or push to eat and run. Great food and beverages with a flair of style.

AVERAGE

By mct12 |

We met another couple on a week night at 6:00 for dinner. Unfortunately the establishment has only a few booth seating & tables. Our wait time took 2 hours, they do not take reservations. This night many tables were occupied by people who had already eaten but stayed talking for the evening. By the time we ordered dinner we were so hungry & annoyed. The food was just very average. It may have just been a bad night for all. Too bad they can't find a way to get the booth sitters who have finished & paid the bill to get up for others.

Delicious!

By stlouistraveler007 |

This is a small bar with delicious food. There's not a lot of room to spread out and relax, but you will be rewarded by upscale, delicious bar food with unusual twists, with creative toppings, appetizers, marinated and pickled veggies. Servers very attentive. Great drinks. Burgers wonderful. Would love to go here anytime!

yes.

By flyinthemilk |

Foie gras on a burger?! yes. Fries that are fried in duck fat?! yes. They pricey but absolutely amazing house special burger with blue cheese, foie gras, applewood bacon plus fries will run you some money, but are pretty damn amazing. If you're not willing to commit, the fries alone though are amazing. (if you opt for the cheese sauce you might want to get the cheese on the side in order to maintain the crunch.)... top notch selection of bourbon, scotch, etc... can't wait to come back.

Best Burger in Philly!

By cruiser911 |

Amazing little place with some really good food! Had the burger with cheese fries and it was perfect - stop and check out the great scotch assortment also.

The Tater Tots were delicious!

By DolceVita123 |

I was excited to eat here, all the reviews had good things to say. Had to high of expectations, it was mediocre at best... The place is really cramped. The burger was waay salty.. The tater tots with their sauce was sure tasty though!!

YUMM!!!!

By LAHK |

Nothing bad to say! Just be prepared to wait about an hour on the weekend. There is a restaruant right next door where you can have a drink, so it is no big deal. My husband had one of the specialty burgers, and said it was amazing. I had the veggie burger, and enjoyed mine as well. Nice cozy place with great food!

A fine burger

By Gordon175 |

I was told that they're known for their burger so I ordered one with blue cheese. I also ordered the duck fat fries. Their was a very long wait for my food, which I was later told was due to their computer system needing to be re-booted. The burger was good but not really exceptional. The duck fat fries were OK. I didn't find the duck fat as noticeable as I had expected. I wound up getting the fries for free due to the delay due to their technical problems.

Fun and energetic place for small small bites and big favored cocktails!

By Chuck S |

In town for business and met 2 business colleagues for a drink and snack. The bar had a great vibe and cool ambiance and filled up very quickly and by 5 pm, completely full with a great sense of energy. We share a few appetizers which were quite nice - particularly the homemade pickles. Great place for friends to meet!

Good food great cocktails

By aerogirl59 |

Perfect portion sizes of good food, extensive whisky list and lovely cocktails, good service. Burgers enjoyed by those in our party who had them. My chicken milanese with spaetzle was really good.

Excellent Burger

By Lsbtravel1 |

Village Whisky is known for their decadent burger and Duck Fries. However the seating is either at a crowded bar or else in very uncomfortable small booths. Even if your party is only two the people in the next booth will be seated right alongside you. Better to go to Cafe Rouge which is two blocks away has as good a burger and very comfortable seating.

Just had to leave

By John_M_1999 |

Stopped in at 4:30 on a Friday. Nobody sitting down but told only available table was outside at corner. Smelled bad and after waiting 10 minutes for someone to come back we found a better place down street.

Burger Bomb!

By Bobpierson |

No doubt best high end burgers in the city. Gets crowded try an off time. Try the pickled veggies especially the beets. Great except the duck fat fries. They always disappoint . Never crispy. They are supposed to be ? Right?

Best BURGER in Philly

By Sammy B |

First this was one of the best dining experiences in Philly. We drove down to holiday shop and went for fun food burgers sides and the service made it t fun dining experience. Our server Jenny was one of the best servers we have ever had she made our dining experience fun, timed our salads, apps and main course perfectly and have to tell her she is the best. Now for the food we started with the short rib duck fat fries which were a life changing experience, the kale salad was worth the ride and our burgers were done perfectly with an amazing brioche bun, cheddar cheese and sunny side up egg,.......mmmmmmmm What a happy holiday VILLAGE WHISKEY IS THE TRUTH!!!!!!

Omg

By bmesservy |

You're gonna have to roll me outta here. Duck fat fries and pork Sammy are amazing! Raspberry space beer is fantastic.

Excellent burger

By RittSq |

Not clean. Dusty blinds. Server forgot salt and pepper and silverware. No mustard other than yellow. Diet Coke was not that product and had little fizz or taste. Fries better than average. Burger excellent. This is part of the Garces chain. They always seem to come up short. Recommend going to one of the Starr properties instead, like Parc, or for something fancier, the Prime Rib.

Great whiskey menu

By Julie K |

Came to Philly for a quick weekend and came here for a late lunch due to the attraction of the 'best burger' and extensive whiskey/bourbon list. I have to say the burger was overdone, but still flavorful. The whiskey menu is great with the option of either a 1 oz or 2 oz pour. They also do whiskey flights which are nice for people just getting into bourbon.

The Very Best Burger

By Merlinandme2013 |

If you are ready to indulge in the burger to end all burgers hurry to Village Whisky. The special burger, topped with a slice of creamy foie gras, is incomparable. The fries are crispy and delicious, cooked in duck fat. Village Whiskey is small and popular, so get there early to find a table. We did not drink, but as the name implies, the bar offered a wide assortment of excellent whiskies. The servers were prompt and kind. I would go again in a heartbeat.

Nice Bar/Restaurant with good food

By Johannes |

The Village Whiskey is a small bar/restaurant. Therefore you should reserve a table upfront or with some luck, you can get a seat at the bar. The „whiskey king“ burger is really delicious. The foie gras does perfectly fit to it. The blue cheese might be too strong, so maybe you can just substitute the cheese. I can also recommend the duck fat fries.

Great burgers & fries in a cool atmosphere

By Magnificent_U2 |

Friends & I had dinner at Village Whiskey based on the recommendation of our hotel staff. We all enjoyed our burgers. They have a very good vegetarian burger & while their fries are regularly cooked in duck fat, they also prepare vegetarian fries which were delicious. We would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Best whiskey collection in Philly

By FrequentTravellerUAE |

My husband is a whiskey connoisseur, so on our trip to USA we had a long list of bourbons to get through. Not only do they have a huge collection, the bar tenders know what they’re talking about! Great drinks, great guys. Can’t fault this place at all!

Overrated

By JessMacB |

I had heard so much about Village Whiskey and was very excited to try it. I was disappointed however. Nothing really wowed me. I had a burger and their "famous" fries and both were pedestrian. I'm glad I went but won't be back

Not family friendly

By millostar |

I called in advance and asked if they take reservations and was told no. Asked if it was a family friendly establishment and was told yes. Went there with a hungry 7 year old only to be told there is an hour and a half wait... you should train your staff to answer honestly and not try to bring people in to wait.... very disappointed

All about the burgers

By Tripletmom96 |

The five star rating above comes entirely from the unparalleled burgers at Village Whiskey. The service was fine, atmosphere was similar to that in many other Philadelphia bar/restaurants on a Friday night, cocktails before dinner were a mixed bag, appetizers were good, and the duck fat fries didn’t quite live up to the hype. The customizable burgers, however, made the trip worthwhile and drew rave reviews from three of the four diners in our group (the fourth, a vegetarian, said her veggie burger was unremarkable). All three of our beef burgers were different (two were “build your own” with different combinations of toppings and one was the special of the day), all were ordered to different cooking specifications, and all three were exceptional. If you are a burger person, this is a “Must do” stop in Philly.

Perfection

By Debra C |

Love this place. Great atmosphere. Long narrow restaurant with bar down one side & tables down the other. Dimly lit & nicely appointed. On the smaller side but quaint & less noisy. The staff are incredibly friendly. We arrived at 6:15pm & were very lucky to get seats at the bar. The Whiskey menu is incredible. More choices than you can imagine. We had three of their craft cocktails. Great innovative choices as well as some more traditional ones. Wonderful blend of fresh ingredients with top quality liqueur. I actually chose Village Whiskey for their burger & it did not disappoint. Pick one of their house specialty burgers or create your own with a wonderful choice of toppings. The burgers are made very thick using Angus meat from the north east. The burger was so juicy, flavorful & cooked perfectly. The thick cut bacon, mushrooms & Gruyere cheese were the perfect toppings. So delicious. The home made pickle had a great garlic flavor. The duck fat fries were incredible. Enjoy!

A comfortable space with a solid whiskey selection

By Alan304 |

A person at the Helium Comedy Club suggested that we walk around the corner to the Village Whiskey. It was a solid suggestion. The drinks and fried pickles are good, and very reasonably priced during happy hour. The service was helpful and attentive.

Burgers, Bourbon... and Mac&Cheese

By Paula |

Although Village Whiskey is known for its ridiculously good burgers and its vast assortment of whiskey, my favorite dish there is the Lobster Mac. Instead of cheddar, they use Fontina and Mascarpone, which results in a rich, creamy texture and bold flavor. For appetizers, I strongly recommend the Duck Fat fries with short ribs and cheddar. It's amazing!!!! The service is superb and the location, one block from the Rittenhouse Square, is extremely convenient.

A Better Burger

By Jovanni B |

We were told by a couple of friends, that while in Philadelphia, we needed to go to Village Whiskey. At first I was skeptical, Miami has a ton of great Burger joints, but when they mentioned fries in duck fat, I was sold. Village Whiskey is small, we're talking a bar with a few tables. But it's the size and atmosphere which make it so charming. The service was friendly and quick which was very nice. Now for the food, the prices are a little high for a burger place. I shelled $21 for a burger they had on special. It was delicious, quite good, but not worth $21. Additionally the burger patty itself wasn't very big. My wife had the Village Burger which was cheaper, and also very tasty. Lastly, we had the duck fries. The fries were delicious. Could I tell they were cooked in duck fat? Nope! Nevertheless they were very good, and I wanted a second batch. So would I go back to Village Whiskey? Yes, I would. But I would probably stick with one of the cheaper burgers. I don't think the high price is worth shelling out for one of the fancier burgers. Especially since there are so many other burger joints in the area. If you're in Philly, give this place a look. Yeah it's pricy, but the taste, atmosphere, and experience is worth it.

Love this place

By Howboutafresca |

Always a good time at Village Whiskey. It is a small place, and we were fortunate to get a table right away (often there is a long wait, but they will call you when the table will be ready in 10-15 mins). Speakeasy feel. Great craft beer selection and of course, every conceivable kind of whiskey, bourbon, rye, or scotch you can imagine. Had some oysters, fried shrimp and the star of the show - the burger. You won't find a better burger in Philly. Duck fat fries too, with the optional short rib or cheese topping. It is a bit pricey but so worth it. Outdoor seating too. Have been about 10 times and can't wait to go back! Definitely try this if you are a burger, beer or whiskey fan.

Tasty Burger

By Tim W |

Now that's a tasty burger! Only issue was we waited almost 2 hours to get a burger at a bar. Yes, it was above par, but hardly worth the wait. Top Knot (door guy with weak man bun) at the door was a little snooty, acting like he was head maitre'd at French Laundry. So, that being said; I had the fries with pulled pork which were smothered in cheese and a tasty burger with a long hot on it. I couldn't enjoy any of there fine spirits because I spent the 2 hour wait boozing. If the wait is over 20 minutes don't bother.

Came here during the afternoon...

By siggyiggy |

And it was aweosme. They have a great whiskey selection if your into that. Food was great and came out very quickly. . We came in hungry and left full.. great quick spot to see and enjoy..

Veggie Burger and Bourbon Flight!

By adamcohenil1 |

Place is a bar with some booths, and a counter in the back. They also have outdoor seating, but it was too hot to sit outside. Veggie burger was outstanding; perhaps the best I've had. It had a mixture of beans and veggies. Tasted very fresh. Tater tots were really good. Burgers were really good as well. Good flavor mixtures. We had them topped with guacamole, and I had chèvre on it! Finally, enjoyed a bourbon flight, with a nice variety. They had a very long list of whiskeys, including a large selection of single malt Scotch. Tasty, quick and worth it. A bit pricey, but still worth a visit.

I like big burgers and I cannot lie

By JimK454 |

If it's an "off the hook" burger you are looking for, this is the place. We sat at a table outside since we had a dog with us and the weather was great. The service was very good. They brought a bowl of water for the dog, and happily answered several questions about the menu. The beer is cold and they have a long list of Whiskeys to choose from. There burgers are awesome. Large and flavorful. You can add a variety of items to suit your taste. I will go back the next time I am in Philly.

Very Nice

By 860Vetman |

Reading other reviews I'm guessing this restaurant is questionable. Having lunch just recently we couldn't have had a better experience, maybe the time of day or Covid ( staffing ) has it's obstacles. Our drinks and food couldn't have been better. As soon as we were seated, Marcellis our server gave us waters and took our drink orders. Our food came out in a timely manner and was very good. The smoked Salmon BLT was my favorite although no one else at our table had any complaints regarding their food.

Good food slow service

By Valuerocks |

The food was good the prices were a little expensive for a burger although the quality of the food was excellent. It was interesting to watch the bartenders make such intricate drinks. Although I didn't want to spend my whole time watching the bartender make drinks for other people while waiting for my check for over half an hour

Best Burger in Philly

By JLB10314 |

Hands down the BEST burger in Philly... The restaurant itself is TINY and can feel crammed and you can almost never get in when you want, but as long as you know that going in, you will love it. The pork sandwich is AMAZING as are the short rib fries, tater tots and cobb salad. They have a great selection of bourbons, but their drinks are certainly pricey. I had a Basil Hayden's Manhattan that was $18... ALL WORTH IT...

Delicious drinks

By Jennifer S |

This place is awesome even for the non-whiskey drinker. I'm a vodka drinker and they make a killer Grey Goose Cosmo. They also have a seemingly endless selection of whiskeys to choose from and the bar tenders all know their stuff. Highly recommended

Best Veggie burger in town!

By Jazrck |

If you are looking for a burger and some bourbon, this is it! This place has the best veggie burger in town with a HUGE selection of drinks.

Amazing

By Jasmineaf1 |

Definitely a hippie eatery. Walk in and there is a huge wall of nothing but at least 100 different types of whiskey (of course). We were immediately seated which was funny great because every single time I call they usually are packed and have a wait list. We sat at the bar and the bartender was really friendly and had amazing service, he made the best mint julep and mojitos we had ever had! Make sure when you go you order the short rib and cheddar cheese duck fat fries, they are AMAZING! Trust me the portion is enough to be a meal. I also had the pulled pork sandwich also AMAZINGLY. This place is an all around And++++. No wonder they're always packed.

Delicious

By Kelsey D |

Sat at the bar in this quaint restaurant. I ordered the duck fat fries with short rib and a Bloody Mary. They were so worth the price! Such a large portion and I couldn't even finish them all by myself. They were super cheesy and the short rib was very tender. The Bloody Mary was probably one of the best, spicy and handmade. Even for a price of $26 for two items, I'd go back next time I'm in Philly for sure.

Awesome whiskey selection (duh) & Great service

By aesmith3 |

I appreciate a good whiskey selection and this place nails it. Fun atmosphere and good food. Hush puppies were cool and my burger was fantastic.

Nice burgers

By Neon_Blue |

Good choice of burgers plus the monthly special. Great selection of whiskeys, draught & bottled beers. We all had different burgers which were cooked to perfection and served by very helpful and nice friendly staff. The bar vas very busy & there was a great atmosphere which made our lunch all the more enjoyable.

Not the BEST but good

By John M |

I was told that this place had the best Burgers in America.... so of course, I was going to be let down. Tables are really small, service is blah, and waitress' could care less that they are there. The Burgers are pretty good I choose avocado, mushroom, and cheddar and was very satisfied. Messy as hell but darn good. Their fries were something different; ok nothing to go crazy over. Ok atmosphere, nothing really unique. If I am back in town and have a craving for a burger, I would consider them again but not a guarantee shoe-in.

More than whisky and burgers!

By Brads P |

I have wanted to come here for the last year after seeing it on the Food Network’s Burgers, Brew, and Que. The food and ambience looked amazing. I came in for Restaurant Week and tried the $20 lunch which is a bargain. They have about 100 whiskeys ranging from $6 - $120 per shot. I went for a cask version of the Yard’s IPA, which was $6 and was really good, although the pours are well under a pint. I ordered a hot brown even though I came for the famous Village burger, but I always wanted a hot brown so went for it. As it was Restaurant Week I also got a starter with pickled beets, olive spread, cheese spread, and sourdough - this was all amazing. The hot brown came and was served in a classic skillet and was huge. It really could not have been better and the toast in the bottom had soaked up all the mornay sauce and was my favorite part. It also came with duck fat fries which were amazing. I had to get the dessert to go as I could hardly walk. The whole thing cost $28. I can’t wait to go back.

Loved it

By Jaime C |

Hands down my favorite dinner while visiting Philly. Made reservations and were seated promptly. Our waitress was attentive and personable without being overbearing. Drinks were strong. We shared 4 dishes and they were all great. Duck fries- get these if you go here SO GOOD. Buffalo shrimp, gold wings and Cobb salad. All delicious.

Good place for an informal meal and a drink

By Hampsteader |

This place is fairly small, and it's noisy (even when empty because the music is always too loud) but despite that, I like the place and have been twice in past month or so. To me it feels like a cross between a gastro-pub and a cocktail bar (the traditional kind, not nightclub or sports bar). Even though I am not a big drinker, I love to see the huge well-stocked bar and watch the bartenders make some unusual concoctions. I've gone more for the food. I love the pulled pork sandwich and the burgers have been highly rated by friends. The selection of "pickled starters" is really good, too, (they come with crusty bread, tapenade and honey ricotta) as are the duck fat fries. The menu isn't big, but so far everything has been good and the service is very good too. It's the kind of place to go with only one other person, as the seating is either at tables for two or along the bar, so it's not good for conversation with a group. Late afternoon (between 4 and 6) is a good time to go on weekends, after that it gets packed. I would give the place 5 stars if it had more seating for bigger groups and they turned the music down a bit. Definitely worth a try!

One of the BEST....

By FloridaTraveler |

..... hamburgers anywhere! Add to that fried pickles and hand cut fries cooked in Duck Fat and it's THE best combo!

Excellent burgers

By P H |

If you like a good burger, this is the place to go. Good service but it's very small. Makers Milkshake was excellent for dessert. Go at an off time if you don't want a wait. Only suggestion for improvement I would have is offer a few more non-alcoholic beverages for the designated driver in the group. Philly water is HORRIBLE and only a few choices to drink that aren't alcohol (root beer and ginger beer). If anyone plans on enjoying the offerings from the huge whiskey selection, someone has to stay sober to drive. Filter the water to get rid of the chlorine for the drivers who take care of the drinkers!

Good burger, FANTASTIC fries with short ribs and cheese.

By bzmd53 |

I've been here a few times, and although the burger is good, it should be.... it's not cheap and this is a Garces place....but it isn't the best burger I ever had. The fries cooked in duck fat and covered with melt in your mouth short ribs and yummy cheese is the ticket.

By far, the best burger in town.

By Toba64 |

While other restaurants win accolades for their burgers, having relied on "extras" like bacon, pickles and s partridge in a pear tree, Village Whiskey does it on best beef, best roll, etc. That's just the way I like it! And if you like scotch or whiskey, Village Whiskey's selection is beyond compare.

Nice atmosphere

By WESxwb |

The place is very good, food is very good, not an extensive menu though. Draft beer was excellent. Service is very good, fast and friendly. Recommended if you want to have good relaxed time.

The Best

By Taylor |

Village Whiskey is probably our favorite restaurant in Philadelphia. The burger is amazing, and we've had that many times. I tried the melt this time and it was just as good, and we also tried short rib fries for the first time which were also amazing and they were given in a large portion. We shared them and still did not finish them. Great spot!

We'll need to be back for the burgers

By phoebendan |

You'll want to stop by for the whiskey cocktail of the month, beer on tap, burgers (dan thinks they look good, I agree) and pickled things (for me). We had drinks at the bar before a comedy show at Helium Comedy Club. Perfect! If you can get a seat. We'll be putting this in a to-do list for our next visit.

Popped in

By Serendipity1701 |

Stopped in after seeing the extensive menu of whiskey and scotches they offered. Sat at the bar and it just happens to be a Happy hour. Had an Old Fashioned which was made perfectly, deviled eggs which were good and the shrimp slider which was good. You only got one slider and it only had the bottom bun which I thought was weird. Atmosphere was nice and the staff were very friendly and just made an evening better. So glad we stopped in.

Average

By Michele M |

I was looking forward to visiting this restaurant being that it was a Jose Garces restaurant. I was a but disappointed. We were placed in the bar area which we were ok with but we were near the bathroom. As a matter of fact, there were 2 Tables near the bathrooms, when two other couples arrived, and saw where their table was located they turned around and left. My husband got the Mac burger and I got the steak frites. My husband ordered the french fries for an extra cost which by the way were $12. All of the food items were extremely salty. Since we are at a whiskey bar, my husband ordered the old fashion which also was very average. It was fine for the experience but I’m not sure if I would go again.

visting the flower show

By Ann D |

great beets app. and the bread, olive and ricotta spread was amazing. We had a wonderful burger and a great current cider beverage was really good. Nice atmosphere, great wait staff and host person. can't wait to go again next year when I vist the flower show

Rude and ignorant !

By Joe61_11 |

Stopped in on a rainy Friday night. We were told it would be a 15 minute wait and the next available table would be ours. After being ignored for approximately 20 minutes we were asked if we would like to sit at the bar. When I asked about the table that had opened up we were told it was for another party. The hostesses were very rude and ignorant!

All Around Great Time

By Wander |

Came here with a couple friends for dinner and loved every minute of it. Our waiter was very attentive and checked up on us often. Burgers were fantastic, including the special. I had a whiskey sour which would have been a tragedy given this is a whiskey bar but luckily it was very good. The chocolate cake is a great size to share with a couple friends to top off your meal.

Great drinks

By Jon |

Nice atmosphere, great drinks. Very friendly and knowledgeable bartender. Good food also. Gets pretty crowded do go early of going at lunch time.

I came here with a big party for lunch on a Sunday.

By TennisStar602 |

I was a member of a decently-sized party when we decided to dine here on a Sunday afternoon. We did make a reservation. I had the Italian chicken sandwich; it was absolutely delicious and largely-portioned for thirteen dollars ($13.00). I thought that the waiter did a great job, but I do wish that fries were included with the meal. The duck fries were amazing. There was parallel parking outside.

Too slow too expensive

By Lior Bar |

We went there after recommendation from friends . The place was dark and empty . We waited more then 30m to get the drinks but not the one we ordered simplly because they were lack of them. The burger were so, so ok but surly don’t worth 26$.

poor service, and surprisingly limited drink menu

By TravelDoc356 |

We thought that a 1:30 in the afternoon reservation would be fairly easy, and efficient. However, despite the restaurant being nearly empty, there was still delays in getting seated, and took almost 20 minutes for a server to acknowledge us at our outdoor seating area. We proceeded to order appetizers, and reviewed the drink menu. However after another 15 minutes they brought us the wrong food, and when asked about the drinks, they did not have any significant whiskey to speak of on the menu. Add that to no Cabernet sauvignon for my wife, we had to abort the meal and go elsewhere. Unfortunate, as I had high expectations based on the name and the location.

Nice bar

By krys_k |

But nothing more to it than that. A long room, with a bar along one side and a few high tables and seats along part of the other. At night, suitably dark and moody. Huge whiskey collection and I was trying to think of ones that they might not have, not too many is the answer. Friend had a burger, and was pleased; we had hotdogs, that came as a small pair. The pickled cauliflower, that usually tasteless beast, was great with truffle oil. I think the sort of place to come for after work drinks or alone with a book to read at the bar.

Great meal

By Kim N |

We went around 4:00 and got a table. This is a small place so was glad not to be elbow to elbow. Both of us had a burger and duck fat fries. Hands down the best burger we've ever had. Service was prompt and professional. Would come back.

Lunch in the city

Stopped in for lunch two weeks ago. It is surprisingly small. We did have reservations as there were 6 of us. We arrived early. Service was good. We had the bacon variety appetizer which was yummy. Also tried the beet appetizer w ricotta very yummy. I tried the burger if the month, too many onions. And hubby tried the whiskey burger which was better. Burgers are huge so bring your appetite.

Best burger

Whiskey is a bit over priced but the burgers were amazing. Fries and cheese sauce were great too. It's a small joint so expect to wait.

Great food!

Small place and can sometimes be a long wait but so worth it! Excellent food and beverages! My favorite is the pickled beets served with a whipped ricotta! Delicious!

Great burger joint, well-crafted cocktails and delicious milkshakes

By Christine M |

The menu here is impressive - it has everything indulgent you could imagine from fried pickles, to alcoholic milkshakes (the smores one is the best), chicken and waffles, duck fat fries with short ribs on top, and a burger made with foie gois, bacon, and gruyere. I was so excited to sit down here for brunch with so many delicious options. The burgers are cooked well, the brioche bun is perfect, and the cocktails are really well-made and unique. I would definitely go back here to try another one of the burgers and more of the drinks. Its a small space so there was an hour wait but it was well worth it and there are plenty of bars to wait in the area.

Interesting Dining Experience, Good Variety of Food

By Dionges1 |

In town for a medical school graduation with family. Had dinner on a week night, and since the restaurant is not large, can be a wait--they do take reservations. Food items are reasonably priced with the most expensive items the Whiskey King Burger and oysters if ordering a dozen. Service was excellent and the explanations of the menu items was greatly appreciated. If you are not concerned about the calories and/or cholesterol, order the Whiskey King Burger that has glazed cipollini (onions), bleu cheese, bacon and foie gras. Also order the Duck Fat Fries. The BBQ Pork Sandwich came with very good cole slaw and fried pickles--latter interesting, try at least once. Tip--If there is a wait and the bar is full, go next door to Tinto Philadelphia, same owner as the Whiskey Village, for drinks. Tinto specializes in Spanish food and drinks.

Decent drinks and great food and service

By Dhinesh M |

Village Whiskey gives you everything for a nice evening: an expansive whiskey list, great appetizers (duck fat fries were good - so were crawfish hush puppies - my personal favorite!) and great mains (had the village burger with a few add ons - can't clearly say is the best but is def big messy, juicy goodness!), and great service. It may be small but this place has a lot to offer when you visit philly. Patrick at the bar was amazing - ask I for him to fix your poison of choice. Great service, food and drinks - they got the equation right.

Great burgers and good other Bar-Casual food

By KevinBphilly |

I thought it was great casual food and attentive service. There was an large array of alcoholic beverages and beers if you wanted to drink too...

Great Whiskey Selection

By Sierra A |

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday because he loves whiskey and even he was impressed by the number of fine options this place had to offer! We stayed for dinner as well and ordered the whiskey burger (the #1 prize winning selection of the Philly Burger Brawl) and I ordered the burger of the month and we were both practically drooling at the burgers and duck fat fries served. Not too much food so it left room for more bourbon and whiskey drinks! A little pricey but definitely worthwhile for the quality of food and drinks in a lovely atmosphere.

The best burger ever! We came in town for the day and made a bee line here to try the burgers. We were not disappointed! Great service too.

Not all of that!

By Nancy L |

For a whiskey lover this one is not all of that! The first one we ordered they did not have. The deviled eggs were not good! The popcorn shrimp was so over done!! The cheese curds we just ok. Very small place. Service pretty fast. Don’t think I would do it again. Very dark inside.

Excellent Brunch

By TBalthrop |

My husband and I went here while in town for a little weekend get-a-way and had a fantastic Saturday brunch. It's kind of small, so get there early. I had breakfast, and my husband had the burger. There was nothing left on either of our plates. As other's have said, it has a great ambience, I just can't put my finger on exactly how to describe it except that it's a bar, yes, but nicer and with fancier food than just an average bar! I would say great for brunch/ lunch/ or a casual evening out.

Always eat here

By Michelle Wacker |

This restaurant never fails to impress. When I visit Philadelphia I must come here. They change specials every month so there will always be something exciting to eat. Bartender Chris is kind and informative. This place is a no brainer.

Awesome Burgers

By Hubeco |

Guy waiters nice to see men. Very polite excellent service. Burgers are to die for. Gotta go there I. Your in the philly area. The place is a bit small so it gets crowded and the wait is a tad bit long but well worth the wait.

Love this place!

By Mark M |

The Pickled Truffled Cauliflower alone make this a must visit place. (See pic) Burgers are phenominal and the cocktails are some of the best in the city! It's not a place I'd bring kids and if you're coming for lunch, make reservations. Unfortunately there are no reservations at dinner.

Great Atmosphere

By update2 |

My husband and I went to the Mutter Museum and decided to have lunch here. We loved the atmosphere of this place. We were seat promptly and my husband order a drink which I drank most of it. I had the Village Burger with the caramelized onion and Blue Cheese. Delicious. It wasn't overcooked and I enjoyed it. My husband had the Chicken Sandwich. He stated that there was plenty of meat on the sandwich and it wasn't dried. What we will order the next time we are there is the Short Ribs of duck fat cheese fries. Everyone who was there stated it was the best item on the menu!

good drinks

By HeidiMarie3 |

my husband and I disagree about their burger. He loves it, I'm so so. The quality of the burger is excellent and flavorful, but the bun is too big for the burger. I ended up with half of a bun after I ran out of burger. Drinks were good and atmosphere fun, but small.

Perfect wiskey bar with delicious burgers!

By Morris |

I had been wanting to try Village Whiskey for a couple months and finally had the chance. The atmosphere is exactly what from a good whiskey bar, comfortable, crowded and active. We visited during lunch and there never seemed to be an empty bar stool or table during the hour and a half that we were there and most of the time there were people standing and waiting. The collection of whiskey and liquors were impressive and certainly vast enough to accommodate almost any request. The food menu stressed great bar food, many hamburger selections, all with a contemporary twist while not straying too far from traditional. They even had a nice selection of milk shakes for dessert, we had a toasted marshmallow flavor that was amazing. If I lived closer I would be a regular at this establishment. I highly recommend to anyone whom likes a classic bar and doesn't mind a crowd.

Good food but very crowder

Very small places with booths and a large bar where people stand two deep at night especially after work. They have one of best burgers in town and festure Duck Fat Fries

Burger/Fries

By Ron J |

The place is obviously know for its variety of whiskeys and great bar but I think it serves the very best burger and fries in town. Burgers are big and juicy with a variety of toppings, the fries are done in duck fat. Cannot find better! Perfect place for lunch or after work meal. No parking but plenty of parking in the immediate area. Not handicapped accessible. Small venue, reservations suggested. Friendly helpful staff. Outside tables in nice weather.

Village Whiskey it is

By FlubberW |

The wait to get in was long, we had no reservations and our party was rather large at 6. Once in though, it was pretty cramped in for my taste. The service was good, helpful and willing to explain all the brunch menu items. His recommended plates were great! The burgers and breakfast burgers were 8/10, so overall very good. A little over cooked but very tasty and good ingredients including the bun (bacon slabs are so good). The duck fat fries were just too rich for me so 6/10. The French toasts were ordered and they had good taste and texture to them, but no something that would be mind boggling, so 7/10. The drinks, and home made lemonade were worth it. Not a cheap eats place, but you know that when you come in. Would come back with smaller group.

Not what I expected

By Christina S |

This restaurant is in the heart of Philly. The inside is extremely confined, so we opted for outside seating. The outside seating area is on the side street and although not a busy street, it still was loud and smelled like exhaust -dirty. Some of food was not as American fare as I had expected. It was a strange mix of traditional and nontraditional - trying to differentiate themselves. One of the girls got a burger and loved it, the other just got the duck fat fries and did not eat them, and I got a cobb salad. The portion of the salad was very large and all in all it was a good and filling salad. The drink menu was hit or miss also and very pricey. The other girls liked their drinks, whereas I was told my drink was sweeter and the whiskey taste would not be noticed. That was not true. I told the waitress I did not care for it, and she got the manager. The manager was kind and took it off the bill. It was a good place to try, but I’m ok with not going back.

You can't call it a burger. It was a meal.

By Michael F |

The atmosphere was comfortable. The service was great. I had the Whiskey special burger. It was big, tasty, fresh, and delicious. It was a bit expensive but the cost reflected the quality.

Good, but seating is cramped and front-of-the-house staff can be unhelpful.

By George K |

If you're on the hunt for a good burger, you won't be disappointed by the food here, but don't miss Shake Shack across Sansom Street. Better value, friendlier staff, and no attitude from the people at the reception desk.
