loved this place. newly (five months as of Feb 2018) opened in the Proper Hotel, but it's definitely not a typical hotel dining experience. start to finish, it was a fantastic experience. the space is small and you'll definitely need reservations. beautifully decorated with high ceilings, but somehow not noisy and echo-y there are some specialty cocktails, we loved the Umbrellas (vodka-based) and the Billy Le Kid (tequila). Both were excellent as mentioned many times, the Hawaiian bread is a must-have. it comes with three spreads, butter, marmalade and pate with a blood orange sweet topping. that was my favorite it's set up for sharing with mostly small plates and few entrees, but that's a good thing. there's not one thing we ordered I wouldn't have again. smoked swordfish, octopus in mole sauce, Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake with cabbage and prawns, my favorite dish of the night) and chicken. pro tip: if you see chicken on the menu at a high-end restaurant, go for it. a chef who's confident enough to serve chicken is going to take it to another level and Chef Franey doesn't disappoint. I do want to try the venison next time the only less-than-stellar dish (IMHO) was the beignets. although they were great, light, fluffy and fresh with just the right amount of sugar, the accompaniment of odd butternut/cheesy (deconstructed cheesecake?), taffy-thick crema was too rich and too large a serving. service was top-notch. although it was clear who our waiter was, it felt like there was an entire staff of people working our table (in a good way). everyone was knowledgeable about the dishes, they were all friendly and helpful, the settings were cleared and fresh dishes brought often. overall, a wonderful experience and we'll be returning!

My partner and I visited here for brunch on a Saturday a week back. Decor aside—which is a beautiful Art Deco style in a soothing blue tone—the food and pricing left me wanting more. San Francisco is expensive I know, but the food didn’t really hit the mark for me, and it wasn’t for lack of trying. The avacado toast was decent, and as expected. The Villon breakfast had a variety of options on the plate, and all were half decent, but it was an overwhelming buffet of random things that appeared to be warming out back for some time. Cocktails were a no go based on price. Service was ok. On pricing, it ain’t cheap. Also, the website appears to constantly list incorrect prices to the actual menu. As at 9/28, everything listed online was $1-2 more in store than online. I now see $28 listed for the Villon breakfast, whereas it was $20 the day I was there. It DEFINITELY isn’t worth $28–save your money folks.

This is a unique place even by San Francisco standards. Set in an older hotel that has been updated, this space stands far apart from the typical hotel restaurant. Starting with a very visually appealing place, high ceilings and modern decor but not stark. The service was good but spotty in places but nothing that upset the flow of our evening. Menu is innovative and not standard, but there is something for everyone from meat lovers to vegetarians. Good people watching too.

From the moment you walk in you know you're in for a great experience. Our server (Jas K) was friendly, professional, hospitable and truly made us feel as if he was glad we were there. All four of us ordered something different an there was nothing left on anyone's plates by the end of the meal. Do yourself a favor and stop by for a leisurely breakfast, you'll be glad you did.

We had a dinner in this newly opened restaurant The decoration of the hotel reception is worth a visit , the washrooms are downstairs enjoy for a moment the superb arrangement of the furniture as you walk on that floor On the ground floor the abundance of art pieces is enjoyable, identity the ladder for the barman to reach a bottle... so much to look at And the food we had the duck and we enjoyed every pieces of it Be ready to wait with a starter or with the delicious bread It is noisy for us Europeans but seems to be the standard in the states

First time at Villon and definitely not the last! From the most attentive service by Jim to the nice chat with the welcoming Chef, the nice ambiance and exquisite decor, our experience at Villon is unforgettable! The turkey with all its accompaniments, the creative flavors, were simply perfect and give a wonderful insight to the Chef’s mastery and talent! The smoked salmon was equally impressive. Looking forward to coming back to Villon and to recommending it to friends and family! Thank you Jim and Chef!

The Proper Hotel is a historic setting with modern chic decor. This restaurant, just off the lobby, was crowded and noisy in an energizing, not unpleasant, way. Our server was attentive and professionally friendly. We enjoyed the unique ingredient combinations, and thought ALL the food was delicious!

Went here before catching a play at the Orpheum. The Good -Food was creative and interesting. Really enjoyed the south East Asian influences. -Waitress was attentive and kind. She was holding up her end of the deal. -Brussel sprouts were out of this world. -Proximity to theater is fantastic. The Bad -Wine ordered was not in stock. Pet peeve of mine. Update the list and/or offer another similar body wine at the same or price. Don’t waste both of our time. -Wine service was pretty rough. Bottle wasn’t correctly presented, foil removal seemed a struggle, wine poured on the table by accident, stemware was weak imho. -Main plate took about 1 hr to arrive after order. While tasty upon arrival, it was far too slow. About 40 min passed between salad and entree. Our wine was essential done by then and dessert was off the table due to time constraints. I would give it another try, but needs some improvement.

Our group of 7 had brunch last Saturday before attending “On Your Feet”. The hotel renovation is beautiful and the ambience is very pleasant. The food was nicely presented and tasty. The negatives are that the menu is rather limited for brunch and the server did not seem to understand it. Maybe she was new but when we asked for descriptions of some of the items, or if substitutions were available she was unclear and didn’t seem to know. In addition, it is rather pricey and some of the portions are small.

As we were headed to see "Hamilton" down the street, our son recommended Villon. Wow wow wow!!! First, it's gorgeous, very tasteful and interesting furnishings. The service was outstanding. The food was amazing. Between the 4 of us (one of whom is vegan), we had the gnocchi, chicken, sablefish, brussels sprouts and grain porridge. Each dish was terrific - not huge portions, but just fine - and interesting. An excellent wine list, but we had brought our own ($25 corkage). Prices aren't low, but then this is a high-end restaurant in San Francisco, isn't it. 2 enthusiastic thumbs up!!!

It’s rare to find a hotel restaurant that stands on its own — someplace you’d eat at even if you’re not staying at the hotel, just because it’s that good. Villon is that good. The space is small, but the food is creative, delicious, and would rival any other restaurant in the City. The service — from the hosts to the servers and bussers — was efficient and friendly. We even met one of the managers who made us feel welcome and eager to return. Must try dish: the Hawaiian bread with the pate´ — I’ve never had anything like it!

While the neighborhood is a bit sketchy, the restaurant is worth a visit. The menu is creative and well executed, and the service is professional yet friendly. A reservation is important, especially for dinner, since seating space is very limited. The staff works hard to schedule tables so that guests get seated in a reasonable amount of time. We split a variety of appetizers and found each delicious. I'd have never thought to order the Hawaiian bread yet that had an array of excellent spreads that made it stand out.

Called Villon to make a dinner reservation, however my call was answered by the front desk. Rojelio, this very polite guy took my request and during the conversation, gave me an overview about the historical building where Villon is located and answered every question I had about this new hotel in town. The location is very convenient, the food is great and I will definitely come back to try one of the rooms.

I had high hopes for Villon as it is one of the few restaurants close to the Orpheum Theatre. I just can't give it a high five, and that may well be due to my age (64). This is a loud, noisy, small place in a hotel. Stark and trendy. Hip-hop and other music that I cannot identify blaring from the walls. The food was creative, no doubt about it. Julie's brunch sandwich was like no other and my breakfast plate was very different: a huge portion of scrambled eggs, sourdough toast, chicken sausage (me'h), bacon, some beans and greens stuff, grilled mushrooms (I think), a "hash brown" that had cheese melted over it, etc. Way too much food and, honestly, a mixed bag. I ordered a Bloody Mary as I like to do with a Sunday brunch. The waiter said it was spicy and I said bring it on. OMG, I love spicy food but this was insane. I only sipped half of it. The waiter was very attentive and understood that we had to get out to go to the theater. Kudos there. I think that younger folks might love, love this place (which may explain why we were the oldest folks in the room), but it is not for me. Sorry.

Within the spectacular and new San Francisco Proper Hotel, you will find the restaurant Villon featuring delicious progressive American Cuisine. Great service and beautiful designed space. Still an well kept secret in San Francisco. But I guarantee - not for long! So worthy to go to if you are or live in the Bay Area

Breakfast is outstanding at Villons. Two of us shared the Villon's Platter and their oatmeal. Both were heavenly. We watched other breakfast's come out and get consumed clean plate style. We highly suggest grabbing breakfast here.

The Hawaiian bread was spectacular. Served warm with a unique jam and gourmet butter, it was some of the best bread I’ve had in a while. It’s a shame that two small rolls were priced at $8, and meant to serve our family of three. The quality of our meal was exceptional, but portions were offensively small. On account of the sky high pricing, this came off as very pretentious and prevented us from enjoying our meal.

This review starts with a bad experience I had at the hotel rooftop bar at Proper. After expressing my bad experience the hotel management went out of their way to make things right and let me know how sincerely they understood my issue. So often times the character of a place only shines through in when things don’t go as intended. The management at Proper show professionalism and a sincere desire for a great guest experience. The facility is great, the food is great and the customer experience is great even when things don’t go well the first time.

Tried everything. Everything was amazing! The huevos rancheros are sooo good. The waffle is delicious.

Exceeded all expectations. Beautiful atmosphere, great service and most importantly delicious & innovative dishes. We had the wine pairing and enjoyed very tasty salads, main courses and super sweet desserts. The baked Alaska was a real highlight!

I ate here for two meals while staying at the Proper. Breakfast was delicious and fresh. Service was great. Dinner was even better! The okinomiyaki pancake was SO good we had to order extra. Loved it!

The Rolls! Make sure you order the Hawaiian Rolls. The restaurant is in the very cool Proper Hotel. We went for a pre theatre meal. We really enjoyed our meal from start to finish. The food was inventive and presented with an artistic flair. The desserts are amazing. It’s a quick walk to the Orpheum. I’m really happy we tried it.

I'm a local, solo traveler, and non-hipster and can't rave enough about the service at Villon bar (Jason) and fabulous food. Chic and fun interiors, every detail matters, like brand imprinted ice cubes and incredible real art. Embrace gentrification my friends, and walk a couple blocks off the typical tourist path in SF for a swell sophisticated time at this restored gem.

We were totally impressed with the cocktail menu at Villon. It's not every day you see a Clover Club on the menu. Good on you, Villon! We also enjoyed our dinner, service was on point and the atmosphere is cozy. I would most definitely recommend this spot and if I lived in San Francisco, this would be a regular stop for me.

Great place for foodies! Ambience exotic, very urban but chill. I enjoyed tasting menu which the chef complimented additional courses. Wine list awesome! I’ll return!

I absolutely adored going to Villon. It's a beautiful place and they have very unique, and yet tasty options in their menu. The menu at first can be a bit intimidating, just because it doesn't have the usual breakfast choices, but whatever you choose will be delicious.

Had drinks in the lobby on an early Friday evening before the crowds came in, and it was relaxing and energetic, but not too much of a scene. When I walked by the lobby later that night, it was more crowded but still seemed pretty chill. Next morning, we had breakfast here. I had the smoked salmon dish, my husband had the Villon breakfast; both were excellent. Mine had labneh on it, which went very well with the salmon. Coffee was great too.

While staying at the Proper, we ate at Villon four times (three for breakfast, once for drinks). The menu is perfectly varied and has something for everyone. The service is impeccable -- we absolutely loved our server, Ricardo, who we had three mornings in a row! Overall, a fantastic dining experience!

Not only was the food refined and interesting, but moreover after a 6 hour flight from NY I was so comforted by Andrew, Jim and the entire staff as they took care of me. They were kind, down to earth and seemed to truly care about people.

The atmosphere is a little noisy, but the food is delicious and worth the value. Great for dinner before the show. The staff will asked if you need to be somewhere and the time. We were not rushed through our dinner. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable.

Very small portions, very expensive. We had the short ribs. It was a tiny bit if meat rolled into two pieces of pastry, taquito style and the pastry was burnt. We also ordered the sashimi. Two very small pieces and 0 flavor. The we had the filet mignon. Very small portion at a high price. The potatoes were the best part of the meal. We left hungry but did not want to keep ordering food we could not enjoy.

Relatively small venue inside the Proper Hotel. Extensive Cocktail menu inspired by cities of the world. Having two appetizers, soup for each person, sharing one main and one desert was more than ample.

Highly recommend. Service with Terry? (I am so sorry - mask was on so I may be wrong) was amazing and super friendly and accommodating. Our daughter eats cereal for breakfast so we travel with our own - he was super accommodating and we even joked over the cereal - as I felt it was kinda odd to bring cereal to an upscale place. Drinks are delicious too and the food is just phenomenal. The proper breakfast was my go to for the time that we stayed there.

My experience here was overall amazing and I will definitely be coming back from the warm greeting from the manager Emilio to our waiter Jim. The vibe was great not to mention the food. OMG!!! The Hawaiian Bread, King Salmon, and the Peach and Almond Churro was amazing. This restaurant really made my night.

On my last day visiting my daughter in San Francisco, we enjoyed a wonderful brunch at this restaurant. Service was amazing..best coffee in San Francisco. Both of our breakfast choices were amazing. Several other things on the menu that I want to try. Can’t wait to go back. Perfect ending to my trip.

We went here with another couple. We had a reservation but our table wait was still 20 minutes. The "restaurant" is essentially in the bar. The ambiance a little sketchy, the neighborhood definitely edgy. Valet parking is expensive and they only take credit card no cash. The menu is kind of weird, the food not so good. The drinks were short poured, I mean you need 3 drinks to get what comparable "real" restaurants give for a drink. Overall a major disappointment, we won't be back.

This was my first tea experience in America, and it was awesome; prior to this, I had only had tea in London and France so as you can see the expectations were set pretty high. First off, the hotel that Villon is located is gorgeous. Loved the vintage décor, the bar was really nice and the hotel itself was centrally located. The tea experience itself was wonderful. They have it from 2-5pm just outside the restaurant. The tea sandwiches and pastries were delish and of good quality, tea selection was nice and the ambiance a delight, however I would say the only thing that took away from the tea ‘experience’ is that they mixed it with other patrons having just a drink and/or lunch. I would’ve much preferred have all those doing tea in one area bc it just takes away from the ‘tea’ ambiance. Other than that, everything was great. Oh, service was also awesome; everyone was attentive to our needs.

We were looking for a good restaurant to celebrate a friend's 50th Anniversary and Villon was recommended by another excellent eating establishment as they were full. Eclectic assortment of small plate servings...all excellent and followed by an excellent shared steak cooked to perfection.

…in the name, which sounds slightly French, being a small town in the Department of Yonne, near Tonnerre in central France, but no, it has nothing to do with anything much and nobody – at least nobody I asked – could enlighten me. No matter, but I suspect there is a strong Korean element somewhere in the kitchen. Whatever it is, it is very good and understands ‘umami’ after sweet, sour, salty and bitter, fresh ingredients, spare and tight flavours, good ranges of texture and nicely presented. But don’t go if you are looking for a chat with friends, a romantic, cosy ‘a deux’ or just trying to avoid a thumping headache – the noise is terrible. Loud music engenders loud conversation, which quickly turns to shouting to a point where even the waiters can’t hear a thing. Hard walls, hard floors and no table-cloths don’t help, but evidence that it is a problem can be seen in the felt undersides of all the tables, a rather lame effort to reduce decibels.

Broke on of my cardinal rules and ate where I slept. Excellent atmosphere and the breakfast menu / food is excellent - beats walking the streets for medicority. Good value for quality

Villon is the best option for dining close to the Orpheum or Golden Gate Theaters. They get a ton of people going to shows so that's one of the first questions they ask. The restaurant is in the lobby of the Proper Hotel which is a pretty cool property. We didn't stay there but, from our short visit, I'd consider it. The servers in the restaurant were some of the best we've had in a while. Very helpful and friendly. The menu isn't extensive but it does offer some good options. The quality of the food is great with fresh ingredients and presentation. But the consensus was that, other than the brussel sprouts, we could have used a bit more flavor. The brussels sprouts were the unanimous winner. Great flavor. The halibut and salmon were very fresh but not too exciting. As was the rabbit. It's clearly top quality and the flavor is good. We'd just like to see more of it.

Nestled in the Proper Hotel, Villon offers an exquisite selection of finely prepared food underscored by superb service. For an excellent lunch or dinner out, give this a try. My wife and I recently had a lovely meal here as an early anniversary celebration and look forward to a return visit soon.

We stopped in for a drink after a performance at the Orpheum and ended up having 3 drinks each and an appetizer. What kept us there so long was the bartender, Andrew. What a great person! He made our evening! The ambiance is also quite nice but a constructive suggestion to management would be to replace the current uniform (totally don't get it!) with something that makes sense :)

Really loved this place. The food was amazing, especially for breakfast. Highly recommend the Avocado on toast and the French Toast.

I really like the feel of this restaurant’s atmosphere and bar area. You can also sit in the lounge area with chairs & sofas. A very limited menu but what we tasted was very good. We had the ceviche tostada and split the skirt steak. Both were delicious. For dessert we sampled the chocolate pudding and the kulfti. Great wines as well. Great service too.

Ate here with five people. Not a single complaint. Lots of items to choose from including pasta and seafood dishes. Service was good too.

“Villon”..... more like HERO! I had an amazing experience tonight that left a smile on my face. The manager Emilio gave us a great greeting and checked on us often. Jim was a great host. He took us on a journey through the history of some of the drinks on the menu and even recommended possibly the BEST nachos I’ve had in San Francisco. I will definitely be recommending and returning.

I had the pork chop, amaaaaaazing. She had the short rib, delicious! The Hawaiian bread though...we ordered another one for at the end of the meal. Service was great. Wonderful ambiance. Would go there again for a special night out.

Stopped in for craft cocktails, our drinks were amazing and the service was excellent! The bartender was attentive, knowledgeable and very friendly.

Friends had come into town, and we planned a theater trip. They were staying at the Proper, where Villon is located, so it was a logical choice. The Proper is an older hotel that has been remodeled in an eclectic and entertaining way. Villon, just off the lobby on the Market St side, reflects the hotel style in a modest sized restaurant that spills into the lobby. Service is excellent, we were greeted and seated quickly and the server asked us if we were going to a show and what the show time was. The menu was somewhat limited, but interesting. The wine list was also modest but had some nice selections, although pricey at $17 and up per glass. I went with a lovely "local fish'" in this case halibut, in broth with shiitake mushrooms and greens. The was a flaw, no starch. Thinking I needed some bread to soak up the broth, I requested a slice of bread and received a bowl of grilled bread ($8) that the table loved. So, at this price point one would think a) a starch would be provided and b) bread should be included. Regardless, the grilled bread, which I had not noticed on the menu, was a nice addition you might want to consider. My dinning companions all enjoyed their dishes, which were the steak and chicken rice bowl. I did tasted my wife's chicken rice and found the tomato sauce too sweet for my taste, but my wife disagreed. So, if you are looking to enjoy lunch before a matinee in trendy and tasty restaurant and are not on a budget, I think you will have an enjoyable experience. Consider ordering the grilled bread though! Word of advice, Villon is close to SF theaters, but it is a funky part of town, so if you are not headed to Market St area for a reason, you may want to look elsewhere.

The Proper Hotel on Market street houses this hip new restaurant that is open for breakfast , lunch and dinner. We came here for brunch. We shared 3 dishes to start, Avacado Toast, (that came on a thick slice of bread with a slices of Brie, green apple and Avacado), Labneh( yogurt with melon balls and granola), ricotta Pancakes( came with strawberries and whipped cream) excellent. I had a eggs Benedict and the rest had white egg frittata, kale salad, smoked salmon ( also very good) We also had a Bloody Mary, some black tea and some juices. Villon has a good sized bar and funky decor. Place is small so make reservations. Food is very good

The food was tasty and quite instagrammable. Service was friendly and the space superb. Overall a nice evening. Just nice, nothing special or memorable, except for the high prices.

Very cool place, worth your time and money. The place is tastefully designed, just like the hotel, despite one staff member in the morning shift, the crew is super nutcase and attentive. Good idea good although I misheard the best part which is the evening menu. Looks like they kacie what they're doing. Had a wonderful-super-thick-even-the-straw-couldn't-take-it smoothie, and enjoyed a french toast breakfast (my sweet tooth crave was answered in full). Very good managing work (took immediate action once knew about the dysfunctional host).

Good flavors, but very small portions at high prices. We were disappointed in general. No issues with service, but the tables were crowded in and not very romantic. Considering the prices, it was just average.

I flew in from NYC for a getaway weekend. I was staying with friends in the afternoon and decided to stop for lunch before getting to my friends place. I had one suit case with me and was told no one could hold the case for me while I have a meal. . I didnt want my suit case next to me while eating so I left. Not a great level of service.

The food is superb. The portions are adequate but not abundant, so if you feel hungry enough to get appetizer and first course and main course, go for it. We had the chicken liver pate and the mushrooms for appetizer, skipped first course, and had sablefish and roasted chicken for dinner, with Brussels sprouts on the side. Every bit was divine. Make a reservation if you want to sit in the dining room, but they offer the same menu at the little tables in the lobby.

Fantastic selection on non-alcoholic drinks in addition to the extensive selection of alcoholic drinks. The chef’s menu was amazing. Every dish was outstanding. Professional and informative staff. Ideal for a luxury pre-theatre dining experience.

Weekend lunch without reservation is hard to get a seat here. Sausage muffin - I know the look is not attractive thou, but taste is surprisingly good. Avocado toast - recommended, especially come with the onset egg on top. No one can say no to this classic combo. Excellent service with fancy backdrop, I plan to revisit again!

The staff was very accommodating. Our friends arrived early, before us, and they were seated. They didn’t rush us through our meal, which pleased me, especially because I know they were booked up. The overnight oats are really Muesli. It’s a cold dish and absolutely delicious with all the toppings.

Dined with a group before the theatre. Located in the Tenderloin, take a cab/car the neighboring area is not pleasant. But once inside the hotel it’s a whole different world. Inside I was greeted by a very haughty hostess, but it’s good thing we had a reservation. Plenty to see in the lobby, tastefully decorated with a lot of art. Wonderful what they did to the building. The food was delicious. They explain the menu and which dishes are shareable (perhaps because of our group size), but I felt choosing an appetizer and a main course is sufficient. The tuna tartare on crispy chicken skin sounded wonderful, but for me they worked best separate. There’s a beautiful beet salad. The falafel is really good and it comes with a wonderful yogurt dip. I had the gnudi, it’s a small portion, but lots of flavor. The passion fruit dessert is tasty. The servers were great, it’s a little loud so it’s hard to hear at times, but the atmosphere is so alive and vibrant. Cocktails are also very good, do look at the entire cocktail menu it’s a fun read.

Villon is the latest addition to the bustling San Francisco restaurant scene. Located in the completely renovated former Hotel Renoir that is now named the Proper Hotel, it offers an upscale experience with downscale prices. Being in a transitional area of the city may make it less appealing and perhaps the reason the entrance is confusingly located on McAllister St, opposite to its Market Street address. On the other hand, it is trivially accessible by BART or Metro Muni; largely negating whatever the area downside may be. The restaurant is cocktail-centric with an extensive list of offerings. The California weighted wine and beer lists, while relatively small, offer sufficient choices. The cuisine bills itself as New American. I’d call it slightly heavier Californian. Whatever you may call it; it’s interesting, flavorful, and at times truly exciting. The main menu is divided into three sections – small bites (which are actually smaller starters), appetizers, and main dishes. Portions in all categories are ample and I would definitely not order more than one of each as a single diner. Most are quite shareable. My favorites were the Merguez and Octopus (though the Octopus was a bit unevenly cooked), Kuri Squash soup (absolutely delightful), and Baby Beet Salad (a wonderful combination of plums, beets, and Ricotta). I also had the Tai Snapper which was a relative disappointment compared to the on-point flavors that preceded it. While there was nothing wrong with it; it just wasn’t what the build-up made you anticipate. Service is very good though needs more training to match the atmosphere. The kitchen appears to use a complete order technique. That means you may wait a while before the first dish arrives but afterwards everything will be well paced. The restaurant is small with only 8 bar seats and room for no more than 40 diners; so reservations are highly recommended. The center banquet tables offer a more interesting experience. If you just want drinks, there is an ample lounge just outside the restaurant. Villon is a great addition to the SF scene and is well worth a visit.

Staying at the hotel I had several chances to try Villon, and was never disappointed! Breakfast is just great, and for dinner I tried different things and they were all very tasty, particularly the meat dishes! Dinner here and drinks at the rooftop bar upstairs.. 5 star combination! :)

Great decor, excellent food, attentive staff. Restaurant blends into the lobby and other common areas of the hotel. Odd walking in from the street where there is palpable suffering to go indoors to another world but this is by no means a social comment regarding the venue, just the position.

You must have a couple different cocktails, their menu is out of this world. AND don't MISS the Hawaiian Bread!

I just spent the evening at the new Proper Hotel in San Francisco at the Villon. The steak tartare and falafel were absolutely delicious...not to mention the craft cocktails. You must try the Earthquake Proof...tequila, coca cola, lime and creme de cacao...great staff...totally accommodating and very attentive. The lobby (looking much more like a very comfortable living room) is bustling with couples and friends, gathering for a drink or bite to eat. FUN VIBE!

Dinner tonight at Villon. The district is very unsafe. Nice dining room in Proper Hotel. Unpleasant welcome from the girl at entrance. Unable to give an advice for parking. No Smile. Nice cocktail list, expensive wine. Good food but too expensive. We select the Chef’s menu at 95USD. Good food but duck is cold. Wine is never served. We have to do it by ourselves. At the end the bill is at 470 USD plus service. Really too much. And last surprise: the parking with Valet is at 56 USD for 2 hours, just a joke. Never again.

A flowing social space, the Villon restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, drawing inspiration from San Francisco’s culinary culture and seasonal ingredients. With beautiful blue walls and touches of copper and gold the decor at Villon was another beautiful space created by Kelly Wearstler. We ordered fresh orange juice, cappuccino, avocado toasts, ricotta cheese pancakes for breakfast. Everything came prettily plated and was delicious – the lemon zest on top of the avo toast was a great touch.

Pricy and Upscale. We stopped by and grabbed the last two seats at the bar at 5:30 before our 7:00 Hamilton performance. We spent $100 on two crab appetizers, one shared entree and a glass of wine. The crab appetizer was interesting and worth trying, but tiny.... not the “shareable salad” it was described as. My husband had a large piece of crab shell in his. The fish entree was very well prepared. The chef is creative. The bartender was entertaining and knowledgeable in his craft... stop by for that is you’re into it. We left hungry.

Excellent service and delicious food. Interesting choices. The short rib was superb. The desserts were great. The wine list was good, but expensive. Service was attentive and prompt. This is an excellent choice in the mid-Market area. It is expensive, but the pre-theater dinner choices in this area are very limited. This would be a good choice for dining in any neighborhood.
Delicious!
What a fun place. Though they have a short menu, it’s full of flavor. Highly recommend the Hawaiian bread. They make their own bread and butter and jam. Superb.
