Totally plant-based Vietnamese cuisine

By Jenmboyd |

This is located in a small plaza. You can eat in, or take out (we did take out). The interior is brightly lit, and has several tables. There are photos of menu items on the wall, and they certainly look appetizing. You have your choice of soups, salads, spring rolls, noodle dishes, subs (they seemed similar to the banh mi) and even desserts. The owner is a Vietnamese-born triathlete who is completely vegan! There is a lot to try, but I got the BBQ chicken salad. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, and despite the name, wasn't covered in sauce. The greens and vegetables in the salad were crisp and fresh. The portions are huge; I had the rest of my salad the next day.

Incredible

Whatever you have already read about this place that is good is all true. I have been going here since they were only making tofu and soy milk and their menu consisted of these rolls that I still love, love, love. I used to work just a couple of blocks away and I think I only paid $5 for two rolls back then. They are a bit more money now but still worth it. If you ask the owner to surprise you he will make you the most amazing dish you have ever had. Super filling too. My mouth is watering just thinking about Vinh Loi. If you can make it and you are in the neighborhood its definitely worth the trip. I wouldn't travel from Disneyland to Reseda to eat here but if you are in the valley, go here. You will be glad you did. And btw, be friendly. I see mean people in here sometimes. Its a vegan restaurant. If you need meat Mc Donalds is right down the street.

That really wasn't meat?

Nestled into a small strip mall a couple of blocks west of Reseda Boulevard, this no-frills vegan Vietnamese spot is definitely worth a trip. A large menu of noodle dishes, soups, salads and appetizers all using chewy, meaty tofu in a variety of colors and flavors. Very helpful family members guide you through a diverse menu. I went for lunch, ended up with a lovely salad packed with flavorful slabs of tofu, cold veggies and glass noodles and an entrée based on soba sized noodles, chunks of meaty tofu and veggies, all in a lovely sauce. Not at all pretentious, just a solid, tasty place to eat some healthy, flavorful stuff. And I am usually an unrepentent carnivore.

Delicious food and excellent service

By Mary M |

This was my first time at a vegan Vietnamese restaurant. Our server asked us questions about the kinds of food we like (spicy vs. really spicy) and then made recommendations. It was delicious and reasonably priced. I will definitely be going back again.

Many soups, fried rice, udon stir fried and appetizers. Try the sexy buns, Pho, Duck Fried Rice, Udon Stir Fried with BBQ Duck, The new Ramen Stir fried is really good as well. Don’t forget the Pudding dessert the have Taro, banana, mango and the new one is Ube. Nice simple modern decor inside,

Tasty Vegan in the Valley!

By Siam255 |

This is a pretty regular place for us. I’ve tried pretty much everything on the menu. Their menu isn’t that big, though they still have a great selection of broth, dry, and stir-fried. Spring rolls are tasty, too! Can’t go wrong at this place—whether you’re vegan or not. The owner, Kevin, is a cool and friendly guy, too!

Iron Man Keven Tran and his wife Lynn are doing Vegan Vietnamese great in Reseda!

In a little storefront on Sherman Way just west of Amiga in the Valley, Vinh Loi Tofu is a refreshing oasis of vegan food prepared with freshness, regard for proper spiciness, and ample portions that are worth the sensible prices. We had the Chicken (all faux meat made of non GMO soy)) spring roll, a delightful mint, sprouts and carrot salad, the Vegan pho soup, and an udon stir fry that left us smiling and full. Kevan, the athletic owner and his charming wife Lynn make Vinh Loi Toful a happy buzzing place to eat tasty, healthy vegan fare.

Tasty Food at Vinh Loi Tofu

By Jennifer A |

We live nearby, but was told about Vinh Loi Tofu from a friend who lives in Los Angeles. We were greeted by the owner Kevin. The place is small, with seating for about 18 people. There were two seats available, so Kevin sat us down. We looked through the menu. When Kevin was ready to take our order, we told him it was our first time there, and asked him a question about one of the dishes. He then told us that he would make something special for us. The first dish had vermicelli noodles with grilled beef, mixed greens, cucumber, pickle radish & carrots, peanut, and coconut sauce. We ordered it medium spicy and the heat was just right. The flavor was really good! The second dish was an udon noodle stir fry with BBQ duck, tofu, and vegetables. This was really good too. The servings were large, so we ended up taking the leftovers home. Kevin was friendly, so the service was great. He told us that "Vinh Loi" means Forever, so the name of the restaurant means Forever Tofu. The only request we have would have been ice for the water we drank. We'll definitely be back to try other dishes!

Best tasting vegan

By Jennifer Y |

I've been coming here on and off for the last twelve years. I'm not a vegan, but I love vegan food. My favorites on the menu are the ham roll and BBQ duck udon. The prices have increased throughout the years, which sucks but the food still has me coming back.

One of Our Go-to’s

By Siam255 |

We come here pretty regularly. It’s the only vegan Vietnamese joint that’s in the area... and it’s usually very tasty! Plus, the interior is pleasant inside, not a hole-in-the-wall. I love the bright colors in there! The owner is usually there and he’s super friendly and welcoming. If you’re not sure what you want, he’ll ask you what you feel like and he’ll get something whipped up for ya 👍 Definitely check it out! Even if you’re not vegan, it’s super! By the way, gave it a 4 because the last couple times we’ve been in there, the wait for our food was kind of ridiculous... we were there yesterday and took about 45 min just to get our food 😑 It was obvious the table next to ours were irked by the same especially because it was that busy when we first got there. My husband said they had a lot of phone orders/take-out... so, maybe that’s what pushed our food back? 🤷‍♀️

Fabulous

I would recommend asking them to make what they think you will like and you won't be disappointed ! Both of the owners will take care of you !

Best vegan restaurant in Los Angeles

The greatest vegan restaurant in Los Angeles. I eat lunch there everyday, and I mean everyday For the past 6 months except Tuesday when it’s closed. The owners are great, the food is spectacular and the choices are numerous.

Eat anything and everything on or off the menu!

By Ray Q |

Such a pleasure to find satisfying comfort food and a menu full of vegan food so I can eat everything offered. If you ask nicely, the kitchen can also make something customized for you! There are also plenty of to-go options if you haven’t already had enough. Yummy!

LOVE it- miss it- can't wait to go back!

By Sabrina T |

I'm actually shocked that I have never written a review for Vinh Loi. It was literally our staple and go to restaurant for years. I miss it and visit there every time I return to LA. There is a reason this tiny place in the heart of the valley has over 700 reviews! Udon chicken curry is my absolute favorite. He will make it as spicy as you like. I've tried a few dishes that Kevin suggests and have never been disappointed. Can't wait to go back. Everything is super fresh and you get Kevin-the character! What more can I say? GO!

Poor Service

By Alan C |

I've been to many vegan restaurants, including Vietnamese. Unfortunately, this is one of the worse especially when it comes to service. For example, I felt that the "waiter" was rushing us to order. Also, he forgot to bring our waters. When we reminded him, he neglected to bring us refills. Their prices are, in my opinion, a bit more expensive than the competition. The place is noisy. The Spring Rolls were OK -- but kind of bland. The other food were ordered tasted good and healthy.

Lunch with hungry, tired children

By eyalandhila |

Our children (infant and toddler) were already tired and hungry when we arrived. We hoped the meal would turn out OK. It was amazingly delicious and both children ate happily.

Superb Vietnamese cuisine that is completely vegan and affordable.

By MaureenSpiro |

Today I hunted down this vegan Vietnamese hole in the wall based on a recommendation from a nurse at the hospital where I volunteer. What an exceptional experience! The chef/owner, Kevin Tran, brought my friend and I 2 off-the-menu items, an udon stir fry 2011 with curry duck and a beautiful Vietnamese soup with tofu and chicken called IMAZ (Iron Man Arizona). Both were extremely well balanced with perfect heat and flavor. All of their menu items are completely vegan and the chef even makes his own tofu on premises. The portions are very generous and affordably priced. It's a small place in a strip mall off Sherman Way so don't expect great ambiance but the food and service well outweighs the location shortcomings. I know I've found a keeper when I'm not even to my car yet and I am already anticipating my return visit. I can't wait to come again!

Always amazing!!!!

By coralprincesscake |

We have tried it all and have ZERO complaints! Love Love Love it!!!! My husband loves it and he is a meat eater in a family of vegetarians and vegans! Kevin works hard and does a great job of getting every dish just right. Don't see what you want but have an idea in your head, just tell him and he will create something for you. It doesn't look like much from the outside and is relatively small on the inside but if there is a line, it is worth the wait! We usually visit when we are in the area, but once we were craving it so much we drove down to get it from Ventura (45 minutes) and back to enjoy with extended family. Ham rolls are our favorites as well as Udon Stir Fry with Beef, Vinh Loi subs, Mock Duck subs and Udon Stir Fry with Curry Chicken. Also try the Lemon Grass Chili Chicken in the fridge to take home. You will never be disappointed here!

Superb

By Bill K |

Vegan is never as good as regular. Now that we have that out there this restaurant proves me wrong. I got the mock Duck banh mi. The best banh mi I have had in 6 months Really really great taste. They have a huge menu from soups to sandwiches to entrees The ham vermicelli rolls are also excellent.

Great Vegetarian restaurant

By Bila66 |

I love Vietnamese food and although I am not vegetarian I do enjoy meatless meals once in a while. This restaurant does not disappoint. Everything is delicious. If you don't know what to order ask Kevin the owner, he will make sure to bring you a fantastic dish.

Best Vegan I Ever Had!

By Nari L |

Wow, everything was amazing. We got shrimp spring rolls which looked and tasted like the real shrimp. We got the BBQ duck which looked and tasted like real BBQ duck. We also got a soup dish (i can't remember the name) with vegan chicken. I would definitely come back here. The owner was so sweet and he said the next time we come back, we should trust him 100% and have him order for us. So next time I come back. I will def do that!

Most delicious pho

By lynnmin9 |

When I'm in LA my favorite place to go is Vinh Loi. The pho and rolls are absolutely delicious. The tofu is fresh and the faux meats are perfect! For a vegetarian who loves Asian food, this place is a dream come true! But not everyone who eats here is a vegetarian, the food is great for everyone.

I'd eat here EVERY DAY if I could

By DiegoGal310 |

Vinh Loi Tofu is a must go if you're vegan, and even if you're not! The restaurant isn't fancy, but the food is fresh and everything is delicious. The tofu is made in-house everyday. I usually get a noodle dish (I'm not even sure what the name is, since I always just point to the picture on the wall) with rice noodles, veggies and faux duck. The soup is fantastic too, great for when I feel under the weather. Every meat eater I've ever brought here raves about the food. I ordered a dish of noodles for a work potluck once and a totally anti-vegan coworker of mine had some without knowing it was vegan. When I told him, he was shocked and said, "That was SO good. I'm going to have to rethink this vegan thing..."

I can’t believe it’s vegan!

We found this cheery little restaurant on a recent trip to southern CA. To our delight, its menu offers traditional Vietnamese dishes 100% MSG free and completely vegan! Owner Kevin Tran proudly explained they make their own tofu using only certified non-GMO soybeans. We ordered Spicy Soup - a steamy bowl of spicy broth, shiitake mushroom, ginger, vegan beef and served with bean sprouts, lime, mint ($9.50). The vegan beef (tofu) in the soup looked just like real strips of meat! We then tried Fish Lemongrass with Noodles - rice vermicelli with grilled vegan fish marinated in lemongrass served on a bed of pickle radish and carrot, sliced cucumber and roasted peanut ($9). Again, the tofu fish looked and tasted amazingly like real fish! Both the soup and noodle dishes were big enough for two people to share. We were so intrigued that we also ordered a couple of Veggie Rolls - shredded fried tofu, lettuce, basil, cilantro, mint, rice vermicelli wrapped in rice wrappers served with a coconut dipping sauce ($5). This vegan version of the famous Vietnamese shrimp summer rolls knocked our socks off, so delicious! We enjoyed talking to Kevin - a very funny guy and health food enthusiast - who seemed to know every customer in the packed restaurant! Oh, don’t forget to try the sparkling Ginger Kombucha drink (fermented tea infused with ginger, $4/bottle), it’s very refreshing and good for your health!

Love it!

For some reason, I was hesitant on coming here. I have been here a few times and I had bahn mi and duck rice. The food here is never disappointing and always good. There is nothing here that comes from mean, it is all vegan. The food is so tasty you completely forget you are not eating meat. The menu has many options for what your stomach wants at the moment. Because there are may items on the menu they staff does a great job with helping you pick out something. It can get packed on peak hours so you can do pick-up orders.

Great lunch

Portion is big, enough for sharing. Fried tofu is very nice. Owner very helpful to recommend dishes. A great experience and tasty food.

Delish!

By Poetrydancer |

I had the barbecued duck, which was served with noodles and vegetables. It was totally delicious, although the "meat" did not have the texture of duck. My cousin had hot and sour soup, which he ordered medium hot and it was way hot! Kevin offered to replace it. This is a fantastic place, very reasonable. The service is very personal and the owner is very friendly. The food is wonderful.

Delights each time

By Sandhya S |

I visited this vegan place about a year ago. As a veggie, it was delightful to have up to a hundred things to choose from! We went back a year later and the choice is as big and the food really good. They make tofu based texturized "meat" in the form of beef, chicken and fish. Normally I don't like this ya all. I am a vegetarian and don't want fake meat. But the cuisine is Vietnamese and the spicing delectable. So I had a medium spicy Bun soup with shitake etc. and my partner has the coconut based soup. Both were very good. They come with brown rice and loads of fresh sprouts and lime, mint and coriander. Freshness! I love Khombucha - they had three different flavours. Reasonably priced, freshly made and totally vegan. What's not to like? The owner does the Iron Man - which is a fair testimonial for veganism!!!!

Best Food Ever!

This place has unbelievably amazing food, delicious, healthy, and everyone I know that has been there once is now a life long customer!

Delicious pho, excellent service

By TravelRobs |

The service at this restaurant was exceptional. The staff was attentive and helpful. The pho was spectacular! Highly recommended restaurant.

You can stop searching, we've found it!

By gython |

As a former die hard OMNIVORE, I can happily say that if you were blind and no one told you, you would NEVER know that EVERYTHING on the menu is VEGAN. Not to mention everything tastes great here, especially the DUCK SUB Sandwich and Ham Spring rolls - keep in mind they are vegan using a Tofu that tastes like the real thing. If you can't decide, Kevin, the owner, is a great guy and will help you decide on the numerous dishes. You MOST DEFINITELY get what you pay for here!!!

Wow... Just, Wow...

By Siam255 |

The very first time I ever went here was a couple years ago, before they renovated the interior. Even though the food was good back then, I didn't go but a few times. It had that homey, hole-in-the-wall type of feel. Next thing I know... BOOM! Revisited just a few months ago and have been averaging 2-3 times per week (gasp!)! They renovated the inside and it's feels and looks "cleaner," fresh, updated, and inviting. The only thing I consider a con is their AC--when it got hot here (last few weeks or so), I can't imagine anybody wanting to order any of their broth based soups. And especially, to walk inside somewhere expecting it to be cool and it turns out to be stuffy... ugh... As for the pros, there are many! Number 1 being the food--tasty, amazing, non-GMO soy, and just the right amount (I'm still learning portion control, haha)! The owner, Kevin, is friendly and easy-going--speaks to everybody like he's known them :D It's like walking into Cheers, haha! This is definitely a place that can't be missed... you must come at least once and then you'll be hooked! Hahaha!

You don't have to be vegan to love it!

By Andieji |

Vegetarians (me) and omnivores (my father) alike love this place! Let the owner, Kevin, order for you and you will not be disappointed. My favorite dishes are anything with yam noodles and the spring rolls with their addictive dipping sauce. This is my favorite restaurant in the valley and both my father and I consider ourselves regulars!
