Blah food

By Robert R |

Just ok. We had an early dinner due to going to a show. The chipping was very bland and the seafood in the broth was mostly overcooked and tasteless. I ordered a side of hand cut fries which were tasty but not hot. The burger my wife had was good but over cooked.

Stopped for a Drink

By Al T |

Good place to stop for a drink within walking distance of Pikes Place. It was a beautiful day so we sat at the tables on the sidewalk. Inside a beautiful old wooden bar. Waiters seemed a bit rushed and indifferent.

Local fare, convenient

By sleev2085 |

Small restaurant about a block from Pike Market. Local seafood and veggies. Small portion menu before 5 pm, larger plates after. Delicious calimari appetizer, gluten free. In fact, many dishes are gluten free. One hamburger dish offered. Salmon, scallops, salads, plus chefs choice are offered. Atmosphere leaves a little to be desired, but not a game changer. Small dessert menu, but the carrot cake is to die for. Somewhat of a limited menu overall, but quality makes up for it!

Historic Eatery & Bistro

By monica h |

The place has a great neon sign. Very cool. It's been around since the early 1900's. We were looking for a place with a variety of meals away from the hub bub of Pikes Place Market and felt like we found it here. We had a sandwich and and clams. Both were very good and we had good service too.

Everything was overcooked

By DerekParsons |

My wife had fish and chips and the batter was very dark brown and when she tried tried it it was over cooked. The fish itself was fine. The chips were also over cooked. I had a burger which was fine but the French fries were over cooked.

Best fish and chips outside of London

By shelterform |

If you're at Pikes Place Market bypass the tourist traps and go up the hill one block to 1st street. There at the corner of Pike you will find the Virginia Inn, with an atmospherically old paneled dining room, and order the Fish and Chips. The beer battered fish is crispy, the fish moist and delicious and the best you will get this side of London and it won't set you back an arm and a leg especially if you order one of the generous dishes for 2 people. If it's a nice day sit at the corner of the patio and look out over Puget sound.

Excellent gluten free options

By Tina T |

Another great Seattle find and it’s my birthday😊. GF Calamari for lunch one block from Pike Place Market. Just wandered in. Accidental find.

Great value and food

By Flo G |

In our week in Seattle this was the only place we ate twice at. The service was just right, helpful and friendly but not in your face. Plenty of options to eat and all tasty. Loved the mussels and the fish. steak was cooked just as we asked. Comfortable restaurant. Plenty of room . Great value as well.

Gem in Seattle

By Rodney |

Really enjoyed lunch at this friendly and nice restaurant. My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting the owners wife and she was very hospitable. We both had a burger and must say one of the best burgers ever. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

Nice atmosphere

By BAS D |

Nice location, very friendly and attentive staff. I had the olives as a starter and mussels as an entree. Good food, tasty.

Seattle's front porch

By mjf101 |

After a couple of hours trolling Pike's Place and another couple of hours poking along First Avenue down to Pioneer Square and back, we decided to get some munchies and a cool drink at Virginia Inn on First and Virginia, just up the hill from Pike's Place Market. Lucky for us, it was Happy Hour! We particularly enjoyed the Parisian feel to this restaurant's outdoor venue. Rowland, our server and son of the owners, took our order for fries and cold beers. I know. But I am a true friend of french fries...if they are really hot and really good. These were. They tasted like potato (they're supposed to, right? And they came with a house-made garlic aoli, which sunk it for me. We were soon conversing with our neighbors next to us, who were celebrating Canada Day, and the people seated behind us, who were transplants from Minnesota. I don't know about you, but if the day is beautiful and the drinks are cold and the people are friendly, I'm a happy camper. Virginia Inn's "front porch allows for that and embraces that. The interior of Virginia Inn was much quieter (beautiful day, as I said) but it was nice. Clean, which counts big with me. Booths and tables. Nice bar. Clean bathrooms.

Hell yeah

In Seattle for a couple days and was recommended this restaurant. Great staff, quick with drinks and food was awesome. Salad and crab cakes. Sat outside and the location is great too. Highly recommend this place.

Great Crab Louie Salad

By Gwen V |

We got off the plane from NYC and wanted to have lunch at Pike Market...not happening as it was more crowded than Fifth Avenue. So we took a walk and stumbled upon this lovely restaurant. Good service, a great Crab Louie salad and reasonable prices. My husband had the fish and chips and they were lovely, too.

GREAT LUNCH SPOT

By Dennis W |

Very happy with the service, quality of the food and the prices. Had fish and chips, excellent wild caught cod! Breading not beer battered but gluten free so not prefect. Excellent fries or chips!

Fine meal, wine, service

By Eric W |

We sought out the Virginia based on reviews and were not disappointed. Our waiter was very personable and helpful in choosing food and drink. He recommended the scallops, which I am partial to, but find are too often nearly tasteless. These in fact were delicious. One outstanding feature I had to share with the waiter - all three of us had different meals with different vegetables, yet all vegetable dishes were very well thought out and prepared. A pleasant surprise to find a chef willing to expend that much energy on a "side dish." I do recommend the Virginia and plan to return.

Good "French-ish" Mid-Range Restaurant named for its Street Address, not the Cuisine

By Agnes H |

They have street tables but we chose to sit inside in a booth as the chairs at the tables did not look that comfortable (wicker). We ate there several times since it was convenient to our hotel, reasonably priced, and the food was good. They didn't have a large menu. But what they had was good and the service was good. I had seafood one meal, a seafood salad at another meal, and soup at a 3rd meal while my husband had hamburgers. They were all good. Probably not a good place for kids because they will probably only like the hamburgers. Our meals were in the $23 range each.

Good food

By Karen D |

We ate here on a busy Saturday and our first visit to Seattle. It's on the corner and just a short walk to Pikes Market. We had fish and chips and the fish was local cod ($14) and a hamburger ($14). It was a very enjoyable meal.

Relaxed atmosphere, great service

By TGrec |

Didn't stop to eat here, but was a great place to stop and have a couple brews while walking around and learning the area. They had a number of great microbrews, and the staff was more than willing to provide different suggestions

Delicious dinner overlooking the waterfront

By Neil and Andrea H |

We were a very short walk from our hotel and stopped for a final drink. There was the cutest table free (one of only 2 with a waterfront view). The food smelt so good, we decided to eat and ordered pacific rockfish and chips to share. Portion was extremely generous. Our waitress Amber was just wonderful. Highly recommended.

Gluten free heaven!!

By Reilly & Scott |

An amazing restaurant experience, especially for anyone who needs gluten-free options! I had gluten-free fish and chips and carrot cake… a combo I truly can’t remember the last time I got to enjoy. Everything was delicious, and I felt completely comfortable and taken care of the entire meal. As someone who’s gluten-free, this was such a rare and wonderful experience. Highly recommend!

Pleasantly Surprised

By david b |

Surprisingly good. Wasn’t expecting much as we were hungry, at the end of a long travel day, wandering around hoping to find a place to eat that was decent. We couldn’t have been more pleased. Very nice and relaxed service, easy going pace while appropriately attentive. We had the cheeseburger with fries and a halibut sandwich special. Both were really quite nice. Fries were good, the buns for the sandwiches were really good, side salad was a 7.8 out of ten, still good but not out of this world. Beer was great with good guidance from our server, Chardonnay was good and pricey, not a deep pour either. We sat outside and were very comfortable. The street is busy with lots of people watching. Anyway, very nice evening and more than we hoped for. Thanks!

Great downtown bar

By skynyrd2 |

After walking Pike Place Market we walked up the steep hill to the Virginia Inn. It's a really nice place to stop for an adult beverage. We sat inside at the bar, but there were tables outside too. We did not eat but the other customers were & their food looked really good. On our next visit we will definitely sample their menu.

Worst Foid Eaten in Seattle - Racist Owner

By Joanna T |

Do not support this racist owned restaurant in Belltown. I arrived at 5pm. Only 5 white patrons at the bar and two white couples in booths. The older man didn’t want to put me in a good seat. He suggested I sit y the door or at the table at the window at the end of the bar. I ordered sausage & chicken gumbo (cold & rainy outside) but was served thinned out tomato soup with Tabasco sauce thrown in it with tiny pieces of andouille sausage and strings of chicken (not even whole pieces). $20. The white older male who took my order & was the bartender/owner chuckled when I didn’t eat the dish but paid my bill. He has offended a University of Washington alumnus. I don’t forgive this man or this restaurant for that.

Seafood Dinner

By ChrisCDC |

Great food and great service. am sure all the food is great, we were delighted with the crab cakes, shrimp, mussels and fish & chips. A really pleasant experience all round. Highly recommended.

Delightful meal

By Hannibal611 |

Enjoyed a delicious meal and drinks on a Monday night . Great staff nothing to much of a bother for waitress and bar staff. Seafood was great

Food and service

By Christine O |

Virginia Inn, an old established restaurant in Seattle with history. French café/English pub. Relaxing atmosphere. Old world charm with character. I had the coucous salad/salmon and my friend had the quiche/salad both were very good. I would recommend the Virginia Inn.Very good service as well.

Delicious!

By Ashleigh M |

We just happened upon the Virginia Inn on our way to Pike Place Market. We were hungry and it smelled good so we stopped in and I’m very glad we did! I had the fish & chips and it was probably the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. My husband had the VI Cheeseburger and it was delicious too! I highly recommend a stop at the Virginia Inn if you’re in the area!

Fish and Chips Awesome!!!

By Tristan H |

Came in on a Wednesday around 1:30pm very few people. Had the fish and chips. It was a huge portion (3) large pieces of fish on a bed of fries. $14. A great bargain. Nice music and super friendly waitress! You have to try this Seattle classic.

Good service, nice place to stop for a drink, very clean!

By mkbruno |

Stopped at this place mostly to take a break and wet our whistle. The drinks are reasonable - it's pretty much a local stop. Very comfortable- we didn't eat but did notice the food that patrons ordered looked very good.

Nice Place for a Night Cap

By Mikeofokc |

Nice comfortable secure place for a night cap. It has a local bar feel and nice folks to chat with. Bar service was good and while we didnt sample the restaurant food it looked like good pub food at least

Great stop for a drink

By jkells_13 |

Stopped in here for a drink and snack during our grand tour of Seattle. The atmosphere is great for pulling up to the bar or grabbing a seat to people watch or just to have a nice lunch/dinner. Their beer selection is enough but the waitresses help out a lot. We ordered some soup and olives to snack on. There was nothing amazing nor bad so I can't say much about the quality of their food. It was just a nice place to stop in and take a break for a little.

Fantastic place

By Youngas75 |

I go here every Saturday when my ship is in port. I love this place. The food is amazing and the staff are excellent, nothing is too much trouble. I’ve never, ever had a bad experience here and I cannot recommend it enough.

This Is How You Seattle

By richmltn |

My first time here, and it was even better than expected. The ambiance is great, whether you're on a date, with a group or just taking a break from the Seattle weather. The staff was very friendly, and despite the lunch crowd, were impressively attentive. While the portions were on the small side, it was perfect for me. And what I thought was going to be a simple burger and fries, turned out to be wonderfully indulgent. 'Washed down with craft beer from local breweries, and being able to switch between a good book and watching the holiday crowds finishing their gift lists, made this an afternoon well-spent. I will definitely return, and bring a friend or three.

Good

By XCThinker |

Solid place for lunch. We quite enjoyed the good sized portion of smoked salmon ordered as an appetizer. It had a nice flavor and wasn't too smokey or dry. My husband's fish and chips looked very fresh and the portions were generous - the fish was flakey and moist and he really enjoyed it (which is weird because he's not really a fried fish kind of guy). I had the falafel... and it wasn't bad per se, but not something I would order again. While the fresh herb flavor was good, the coriander flavor was overwhelming and I found the tzatziki sauce too bitter for my taste. Also - worth noting that Seattle (or this area anyway) has a high concentration of bums. While I understand that is a part of any big city experience, the staff didn't seem to mind that one man was walking around asking restaurant patrons for money for booze while they were eating in the fenced patio area. I don't expect them to chase him off exactly, I found their indifference interesting.

Friendly bar Downtown

By Patrick H |

On way to Highway 99 club. Nice bar. Small wine choice. Went again and shared a nice salad nicoise. Interesting art work

A very nice meai and helpful staff

By ColinS |

An old inn in the heart of Seattle with outside dining, a helpful wait-staff and a varied menu with reasonable prices. I ordered the bowl of fish chowder and Cioppino and the wait-person advised to go with the cup of chowder, as the main course is large. She was right!

Great, quiet lunch

By TallieB |

We recently visited the Virginia Inn for a late lunch. We had been visiting the Space Needle and walking around the Fish Market and wanted a quiet place to sit and have lunch. We stumbled upon the restaurant and just decided to take a chance on it after viewing the menu outside. The bar atmosphere was nice, though, fairly busy, it was pretty quiet. I had a salmon sandwich that was delicious! Everyone else in the party had burgers and enjoyed everything. We had a great, little table tucked into a front window. Perfect spot!

Wonderful restaurant

By Terri H |

Great find for lunch. Portions were generous & delicious. Would love to return to try other entrees on a future trip to Seattle. Atmosphere was great.

Nice place but small portions and overpriced

By Jeannie D |

I came here for dinner and the scallops were very good. The issue was the portion was extremely small (only three scallops); very few green beans and way too much pepper for my liking. Service was excellent and the server filled the water often. Place has a nice ambience.

Happy, happy hour

By jandm9002 |

We stopped in at the Virginia Inn for some appies and a pint before our train trip home. We lucked out in that it was happy hour. We had mussels and received a BIG order of great quality mussels. We sat out on the sidewalk on a nice sunny hot day, had a glass of wine and a pint and were treated well by the professional and friendly staff. We also found that it was ok to have our 9 year old sit with us out on the sidewalk. We will be in Seattle again soon and plan on getting to the Virginia as our first stop for happy hour again.

Dissapointing

By Martin-GoEs |

While initially friendly greeted by a waitress as soon as we sat seemed she had not interest in helping out and rather rushed to get us out of the way. Eventually another (more friendly ) employee took care of us. Food was served quick but after receiving my pork tenderloin sandwich was over cooked burned to some extent. Dry and flavorless. Although not terrible quite disappointing to what I was hoping was going to be a gourmet sandwich

Grilled scallops were excellent

By J F |

Overall was a great meal, tasty appetizers and delicious filling entrees. They were out of mussels but there was plenty of other options. Not many restaurants offer Framboise on the drink menu so I was pleasantly surprised to see that!

Beer on the Patio

By tap |

Interesting place to people watch while sitting outside on the patio. A couple of blocks from Pier 57 restaurants and the big wheel.

Nice food

By cajhm |

We ate dinner here both nights we were in Seattle. I had ceaser salad and chicken one night and salad with grilled salmon on the other. The meals were very nice. Service ok.

Fish and chips

By adrianlim1968 |

Tried the fish and chips and it’s different from the usual beer batters. It has a bit of Cajun spice so if your into that it’s good

nice surprise

By AntonioManzenetta |

We were at the Pike Place Market and went looking for a place for a small meal. We walked past the Virginia and realized we had never ate here together. It was a pleasant surprise...good food, good service and very reasonable prices. We met the owner's son who was very personable and helped us choose a couple of appetizers. It isn't famous like some other restaurants around the Market, but it is worth a meal.

Dinner on night before cruise

By Mickey J |

We chose to dine here because of the gluten-free options. It was a great experience and the food was delicious. We are used to high prices in Denver, but this seemed even higher than that. However, it was worth it. The wait staff was very helpful with my wife's dietary needs.

Perfect place for a drink

By Carina D |

Love this place for a drink. Visited here many years ago with my husband and it was one of our favorite drink spots. Just visited here again with a friend and it was still one of our favorite places we stoppefont all weekend. We just loved something about the atmosphere and drinks.

Simple, elegant offerings

By beckybob |

My husband enjoyed Fish and Chips, and I had the Beet and Arugula Salad with the addition of Grilled Salmon. All delicious. My husband said the fish in his dish was fresh and not overdone, and my salad -- what can I say. It was one of the best restaurant salads I've had: Perfect use of dressing, and the salmon was ample and, once again, fresh. The restaurant's atmosphere is classic, casual -- and you can carry on a conversation without yelling over music. Excellent service and reasonably priced. Were we in town longer we'd certainly return to the Virginia Inn!

Half priced appetizers/small plates

By Cathy S |

Everyday this convenient restaurant and bar has half priced appetizers/small plates from 4-6pm. Great way to have a quick meal if you're on the go. Has some sidewalk/outside tables. Starting at 5pm, has dinner. Not sure if they're open for lunch. I had small plate crab cakes, which were 2 large crab cakes and they were mediocre (just ok). Think they were not homede, but commercially prepared, not made on site. Very ground up crab. Another in our group had the dinner of fish and chips. Large portion. They had a few alcohol specials during the happy hour 4-6pm.

Delicious food!

By Lisa Cianci |

We got into downtown Seattle on Friday early evening and headed to Pike Place market to find some dinner. Bad idea because it was packed! We didn't have a specific place in mind, but we quickly became discouraged because there was a wait everywhere. We started heading back to our hotel on 6th Avenue and came upon the Virginia Inn. I'm so glad we did! It was a delightful find. We started with a brie quesadilla with a plum salsa, and it was excellent. My husband and son had fish and chips, which they declared "tasty." My dish, roasted chicken with potatoes, swiss chard and mushrooms in a coq au vin sauce, was really flavorful, with tender chicken. Service was casual but friendly, and the waiter kept refilling our water glasses (we were in Seattle during a heat wave with nearly 100 degree temps).

Light Fare with a French Feel

By roberin |

Looking for a bite before heading up the street to a show at the Moore Theater, we wandered into this little bistro. The menu - featuring gluten free fish and chips, burgers, etc., - delighted us with its offering of a selection of cheeses and charcuterie (in two sizes). We also enjoyed the soup of the day, potato bacon leek. A lovely wine list complemented the meal and it was, all in all, a sweet spot on a rainy evening.

Great service

By Brenda Starr |

Stopped in at this place on a whim while visiting. The service and atmosphere were terrific, and the mussels were pretty good too! Good wine and a cozy atmosphere. After I got back to the East Coast, the restaurant emailed to say I'd left my debit card and offered to mail it back. Can't beat that for service.

Seattle's Gem

By Wander_Wan |

Virginia Inn is one of my favourite gastronomic memories from Seattle. We had dinner here twice (both excellent) and even came back for lunch the day we left. Local wines and beers, fantastic service and seasonal food. As a pub it has a wonderful local atmosphere. Wish we found it sooner!

Great spot for pre-Moore theater events,

By Moss |

So much better than I expected. I feared another mediocre tourist spot and it wasn't. The best fish and chips which I have had in years. Clearly real fish, not overly breaded. The tagliatelle was delicious per my spouse. Good drink selections. The waitress killed it, she was super busy and never presented as rushed, missed name but a salmon tattoo on her left arm. She was wonderful. As much as I hate dealing with parking etc in downtown Seattle I will know that if I have to be there, at least I have a good spot to hang and eat. Well-done!

Fresh and Delicious

By SophiaRose13 |

I had lunch at the Virginia Inn and although it doesn't look like much from the outside the food was fresh and delicious. Everything is made fresh and it's not just a sandwich...it has real taste. The server was friendly and willing to share some Seattle info with weary travelers. I would highly recommend this place for lunch or early dinner.

Charming casual all-day Bistro & Bar in an Historic Spot.

By LetsStayAtHome |

The location of "The Virginia Inn" (at the corner of 1st Ave and Virginia St. -- hence the name) goes back generations. Way back to skid row days. And how lucky were are to enjoy its casually sophisticated charms as it exists in modern times. For food, their NW bistro menu is excellent (for lunch or dinner). The setting evokes cafes in Europe -- but with a lovely NW / Seattle aesthetic. Each month you'll find exhibited on the walls, the work of a different local artist --reflecting an understated casual sophistication here. I've enjoyed dropping in for just a coffee, a glass of wine, or a drink. Then, the small plates are delicious (and discounted from 4 to 6PM during Happy Hour). Highly Recommended.

creative and delicious

By pgtraveler2014 |

I went to the VI numerous times, as I have before on trips to Seattle. The crab cakes are so delicious that I had them three times on this trip alone! Once they even had lavender ice cream. Service is great, and they are very friendly to those with limited access. Don't miss this place!

Quick Stop in for some Soup

By Georgia L |

The soup was definitely home cooked and really tasty. I sat in the bar and had a bowl of soup with bread and a glass of wine. Could not have been better. The flavors were so rich and tasty!

crumpets turned into chowder and fish n chips

By barjung |

Our original plan was to grab some crumpets and tea at the Crumpet Shop in front of Pikes Place Market. The ship wasn't what I expected as we peered through the long lineup into the tiny space. We decided to pass on the Crumpet shop even though watching them make the fresh crumpets was so enticing. We decided to look into the the restaurant upstairs - Matts in the Market - which had an hour wait for lunch. Too long a wait.... so we walked and walked along Pike Place trying to find another place to eat, rest and relax away from the hoards of people. So much to choose from but we kept walking and were a bit off the beaten path until we decided upon Virginia Inn. Lots of history in that restaurant, established in 1903. There were a couple of empty tables and it was busy but definitely a more relaxing atmosphere. It was a cold day and the salmon chowder hit the spot. My wife and I also shared the Fish n chips. Crispy and tasty thick cut fries and perfectly fried fish. Great service as well!

Pretentious but average restaurant

By eldosokyjl |

We stopped into the Virginia Inn after mulling around Pike Place Market for an afternoon. It did not look too busy for a Monday afternoon, but looked nice and quiets we went in. We ordered carrot cake and 2 different beers. The carrot cake tasted stale and had no flavor (it was a joke), but the beer was good. I would not go back.

Lovely food and vibe

By Mark0987654321 |

4 meals - 2 x burgers 1 x Turkey club and Sausage and chicken Gumbo! Which is AMAZING. It was lovely and the waiters are friendly. = 4 x empty plates! I’d definitely recommend this place :-)

Terrific old inn

By Zippy P |

We had the best sandwiches / meal here. My brother had the turkey club, and I had the halibut sandwich. I ordered it without the bun so I could have fries on the side (it's a carb thing) and it was yummy! The only problem is that because we ordered fries we were both charged $4 for the "switch". This was on the menu, but it seems like a lot. And my unsweetened ice tea was another $4. But, you know, nothing's cheap in Seattle, so go knowing that. I'd eat here again.

Relaxed and Friendly

By TommyBoy94 |

We just went here for drinks a couple of times, but I liked the place. The atmosphere was relaxed and cordial, the bartender was very cool and the whole restaurant was welcoming and inviting. Food looked pretty good, too.

Feeling like you're in the 90s

By MT W |

Northwest French style Bistro. I can’t think of a place more homey and kind, if I can say so, than this one. First came here back in 2008 just for a cup of tea and some snacks – keep on coming back every time when in Seattle. Situated in downtown, 3 min walk for the Pike Place Market and beautiful bay. It’s small and very cozy inside – booths or tables and outside patio in summer. Tiny rose on each table – seat yourself where you like. And dimmed light at night with candles on the tables. It’s on the hill, so if you sit at the window and look out of it seems that the ground is inclining and leaning like you can roll down. As for me - the best time for stop there is lunch time, though for a light dinner it’s not bad either. I love their mussels and smoked salmon... Quiche du Jour is amazing. Sandwiches or burgers. Wine list is more than simple, but you’ll find what you want eventually or some other drink, they have full bar. Desserts are amazing – carrot cake or a cheese cake with a glass of port. Always attentive, complaisant and alive servers. Feels like you’re in the 90s or in a movie of that era, “I thought that such kind of life has vanished from earth, but it’s still there”…

Great quick lunch

By thewanderingsailor31 |

I stopped in here with a coworker and the seating was quick and service efficient for an easy lunch meeting. I had the Reuben, which was very well prepared with a generous serving of satisfying house made potato chips. My co-worker has the gumbo and was also well satisfied with his meal. Nothing out of the box or life-changing here, but a solid meal without too much fuss.

Really Good Kale sautéed!

By teamSTW |

We stopped here before seeing a show on a Wed. night. Pleasantly surprised with the food. Rock fish with kale was awesome, my 14 year old loved the fish and chips. Would recommend!

It all came together!

By Chris D |

Have driven by the Virginian Inn many times, wondering if it was a 'dive', or a 'find'. It is definitely a 'find'! We were going to the Moore theater and needed a close restaurant we could walk to. I called the Virginian and was directed to a perfect parking lot by the person on the phone...he even gave me a tip to save some money on parking. We were late for our reservation and they graciously held our table (Seattle traffic!), suggesting menu items that could be quickly served so we could make it to the theater on time. The place is charming, reminiscent of a French bistro. We'll return when we can savor the atmosphere and dive deeper into the menu. Service was attentive and friendly, prices reasonable, and the wine was excellent.

Great food and service

By Zelda H |

We were seated outside on the side of the building with a gorgeous view of Elliot Bay. The view and the people watching were great. We each ordered a cocktail and I had the steak salad and my husband had the fish and chips. I also had the chocolate dessert which was out of this world. The food was delicious and prices were reasonable. Our server was super friendly and the manager checked on us a few times. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience.

The only good thing was the service

By Colourqueen |

Served by Jacklyn, and I'll start on a high here and say the service was very good and she was lovely and friendly. I ordered the burger, which came with French fries. Burger was fine, but I have never, ever in my life been served up French fries or chips this bad. Now keep in mind it was just a burger and fries, that means the fries were half the meal. I was actually shocked when it arrived. The fries were dark brown from being over cooked (not burnt) and they were soggy from not having the oil drained out of them. Completely disgusting to look at and to taste. I wasn't able to eat them as they were so disgusting. Have you ever picked up a French fry and had it just go limp in your fingers and bend? Definately not good enough. You can find a better restaurant nearby, there are plenty in the area. Skip this one.

Classic neighborhood gem

By VArelatives |

We stopped here on a whim since we were staying in a condo nearby and are from Virginia. It was a really happy coincidence. It serves wonderful French bistro-type food with local ingredients. The ambiance is casual bistro/bar - not too noisy, friendly servers, delicious food. There is a rotating monthly show of local artists on the walls - just the type of spot we wish we had at home. We would be regulars.

Really enjoyed it here......

By Jan M |

On the corner of Virginia and 1st Avenue, just up from Pike Markets. Go for happy hour and stay on for dinner. A great place for a drink and has a nice ambience......sit inside or out. The food is excellent, the beer is cold and the staff very attentive.

Great place for beer and a sandwich ..

By LondonLockwood |

A short walk from Pike Place finds you at Virginia Inn, a nice, homely cafe/bar/restaurant . The menu here is simple but delicious . We had a turkey and sweet corn quiche and a turkey club sandwich accompanied by some terrific skin on fries. Just what was needed ! Service was super efficient to boot ! If your in the area I would recommend here for sure .. Simple but nice ! Enjoy !

Great Place

By Ken P |

A great place for food just one block away from the hectic Pike Street Market. Located on a nice tree lined street corner. I sat at the bar and had great service and a very very good cheeseburger. A fun place place to people watch too.

Best steak ever and great beers

By Enrico P |

We stopped here for a beer and some oli es. Then we decided to have dinner. We had the best steak of our US trip.

Delicious dinner

By Jo H |

We enjoyed a delicious dinner in a wonderful atmosphere of this restaurant. Staff were friendly and attentive and the food was great! Small and large plates for individuals or sharing. Everything we had tasted amazing!

Fantastic restaurant in downtown Seattle!

By TMACH |

The food was top notch, and the service was fantastic! The location is great, and we had a chance to sit outside on a nice summer day. I also enjoyed their great selection of local beers. We had a wonderful chat with the owner who is very friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend a visit to the Virginia Inn!

Great place to eat by Pike Marketplace

We were served by Amber, who was kind and warm. The food was amazing, especially the lentil soup. Stop by if you have time!

Excellent Lunch at the Virginia Inn

By AlandRoberta |

We hadn't been to the VI in many years until dropping in for lunch today. What a pleasant surprise! First off, the place has expanded, which is great, while still managing to hold on to a good bit of the "neighborhood joint" feel from the old days. A very nice job was done. We loved the feel of the space. Second, the food was excellent! My moules frites offered a generous portion of some of the best mussels I've had in a long time. Fresh tasting, plump, not overcooked, and not crapped up with curry, excessive garlic, heavy cream, etc. My wife's Nicoise salad was likewise outstanding. There was a nice sized portion of perfectly seared ahi. Quality fish, not full of unpleasant connective tissue like too many other places offer. My only reason for not giving five stars is that I thought the glass pours of wine could have been a bit more generous. Closer too six ounces than to four. Over all, a delightful experience. We'll be back!!

Late lunch

By DennisMissouri |

We were looking for a spot to eat after a fun day of exploring Seattle and we stumbled upon the Virginia Inn. You seat yourself and grab a menu which strikes me as rather strange. The service however was very quick and we received our drinks in a timely manner. My son and I split the Fish&Chips (we wanted room for dessert) and we each had plenty to eat. My husband ordered the hamburger and was pleased with his selection.

Not impressed

By trevlynntour15 |

Lovely external view, noticed lots of travellers just walking in off the street. They had an offer on with wine - you get half price olives. Chose this for starters, the olives were awful very hard with lots of vinegar, really bitter. I informed the waiter we had eaten two of them and he actually removed them from the table but still added them to the bill. My husband had the duck and kale which he said was very tasty. As I love Paella this is what I chose, however it was extremely salty and greasy. I felt for what we paid it was expensive for 2 main 2 beers and 1 nasty wine. Wouldnt recommend. Server wasn't friendly or helpful

Nice place to stop in for a few beers.

By Tom S |

I stopped in for a couple beers while on my way to Pike Place Market. Very nice place inside and a few tables outside. The food menu did look appetizing though.

Great value and meal

By Randy E |

Recommended to us by hotel. Walking distance to our hotel. Solid food, friendly service, comfortable atmosphere. Very pleasant evening, great value

Good food, good service!

By Wendy G |

For our one free night in Seattle, several restaurants had been recommended to us with celebrity chefs or magnificent views- none of them really appealed to us...then we wandered by this restaurant/bar/grill during the day and stopped for a beer. Every plate of food that went past us looked good- so we decided to go there for dinner. I had 2 appetizers for dinner- mussels- plump and perfectly cooked in a tasty broth- and roasted asparagus with a sunny side up goose egg- yum! My husband had a very good Caesar salad followed by black cod for dinner. The service was friendly and attentive- but not annoyingly so.

Okay

By snworb |

I was hoping for a better meal. The portions of seafood were much smaller than other restaurants in the same price range. Service was friendly

Mussels the Best in Town (and the service fantastic)

By Christine C |

We recently moved to downtown Seattle and started visiting the Virginia Inn, a Seattle long-time institution. I remembered it as a great local bar, but the owners (since 1981) redid it a few years ago, and it is now a wonderful restaurant and bar. We go whenever we can for the mussels (local, Taylor shellfish) in a wonderful savory broth and the burger, served on Macrina bakery brioche (yes, seriously). We try to stray from those menu items, and everything we've tried is excellent, but we keep going back for the great beer, mussels, and burgers. Try it all, watch the world go by just up from Pike Market - and if you happen to get Roland or Masando as wait staff, say hi from us.

Great range of beers

By colin_p_everett |

For an impromptu mid-afternoon stop-off for a beer I came across the Virginia Inn. A range of local brews is on offer and the waitresses were knowledgable in guiding you through your selection. A solid and tasty food menu on offer too. This bar had a welcoming atmosphere and was not off putting for a 'lone drifter'.

Great Meeting Place and Food

By twin123185 |

Came here on a crazy busy night - the entire Pike’s Market area was nuts. Was seated quickly and had good service. Good sink selection. The fish and chips (rockfish( was excellent. The restaurants also was not too kind and my group was able to hear each other speaking..

100% we all Enjoyed Our Lunch!

By Steve B |

We had a group of 5. We had one reuben, two fish and chips, one Waldorf salad one special couscous salad. Everyone gave a thumbs up, an those who had fries were pleased they were thick and if not fresh cut a close second....nicely done. Service was pleasant and efficient. Nice casual atmosphere and feel.

Friendly Place, Good Food

By Susan Ear |

We were 3 travelers, starving, and this place was close by Seattle's Pike Market. We were a little early for dinner so ordered a small platter of 3 cheeses and one of smoked salmon which came with a crusty bread and a glass of wine and beers which cut the small plates half price. Always a good thing! For dinner we had fish and chips, tuna, and a spinach salad with peas and couscous. We were satisfied with everything except for the smoked salmon which was a little dry. The cheese plate was exceptionally good. The wait staff was helpful and friendly.

Excellent

By pghcheeseman |

The food, service, and atmosphere were all fantastic. The crab cakes were super, maybe the best I’ve had and the server was friendly

Excellent food and atmosphere

By Where2N3xt |

Stopped here for lunch after visiting Pike Place Market. The food was delicious, the service was prompt, and the atmosphere was nice and calm, which was much appreciated after experiencing the chaos of Pike Place Market. Definitely worth a visit.

Nice place for lunch and dinner.

By Inga B |

The food is always good. Mussels and fries will remind you of Brussels. Carrot cake is to die for. You will enjoy the place for both lunches and dinners.

Great place for Lunch!

By MBJ1515 |

Walking around Seattle we came upon The Virginia Inn and we are so happy we stopped. We got a small salad and the fish and chips were outstanding. Be sure to try their ice tea, it is so good. We loved the service and the atmosphere. We set outside on a beautiful day. Worth the walk and good decision to stop.

Delicious

By Remipolo |

We recently visited the Virginia Inn. The service was great, the food great. I had a Cobb salad with crab! It was so good! The others in our party had the scallops and the salmon. No one was disappointed!

Fabulous

By Judy T |

It was awesome. Good food and lovely waiter people!! It was a "quiet" very friendly pub. And just a block away from our hotel.

Average Food

By Angela H |

We stopped by this place on Saturday as it was one of just a few places we could get into without reservations downtown. The food was meh. It wasn’t bad but it was nothing to rave over. It seemed very average to me. The service was good. Our server was very nice. The restaurant was clean. If you only have a limited amount of time in Seattle, I wouldn’t suggest wasting a meal here. However if you’re in a hurry and can’t get in anywhere else, it wasn’t awful.

We got takeout after a long day

By gordsgal |

These guys were very accommodating letting me pick up an order to go since my friend had already crashed for the day. Got her the squash risotto and I had the crab louie - yum! Enough for 2 meals each!

Worth a visit

By Anne H |

We had a great lunch here yesterday. The selection of small plates we found were perfect to share and the service was friendly, informed and efficient. There is inside and outside sitting and it is within easy walking distance of most hotels

Good but not special

By Shels4ever |

While looking for a restaurant while on vacation, we were persuaded to go in here by a patron sitting outside. Service was friendly and good (although my drinks order was completely forgotten about) We had their burger which was good and which we enjoyed but at the same time not so good that we would be rushing back especially. However, if passing by we would probably still return as there was nothing to fault the restaurant.

Two fun dishes

By Lee B |

Great food. Delightful al fresco setting. Had a great time people watching. Amanda had crispy Brussels sprouts. Excellent, hint of natural sweetness, I’m guessing from the caramelization. I had watermelon gazpacho. Two distinct conversations. First, there’s the sweet fruity, and then an entirely different warm specimens. Fun stuff!

Wonderful Beef Bourguignon

By mshbnyehud |

On a cold Seattle winter night, nothing tastes better than a rich, piping hot bowl of Beef Bourguignon, perfectly cooked and loaded with flavor. I sat at the bar and had a wonderful chat with Roland, who's a real pro bartender. Enjoyed a couple glasses of Cote du Rhone wine, and great french bread accompanying the stew. Virginia Inn is a cozy neighborhood location very near the Pike Place Market -- loaded with locals, always a good indication of how good it is. Reasonably priced too.

GF fish and chips

By Wayne-Librarian |

Yes, the fish and chips are gf and they are excellent, gf or not. Lots of good draft beer on tap in this venerable spot. We received attentive service, an excellent soup of the day (roasted corn), and topped things off with a piece of carrot cake (gf, too, although not the freshest).

Fabulous portabello risotto

By MelissaScottkk58 |

We loved the homey atmosphere in this corner neighborhood eatery. Both my husband and I ordered the portabello risotto and LOVED it! Others in our party had the crab louie which he said was one of the best ever. The other couple in our party live nearby and have been there 4x in about 6 weeks...what does that tell you?

OK Food, Good Service

By DaveStLouis |

We dropped in to this restaurant because we were visiting Pike's Market. The food is fine -- not great but not bad either. Service was very good.

Nice spot with a few challenges

By sabos93 |

A nice venue in a great location that will lure you in with its charm. The menu has an good variety and the food is generally good though some items miss the mark. In my experience some of their soups lack depth and flavor, their salads need an extra touch, and their small plates need some pizzazz. This service can also be hit or miss. It's almost always friendly but they seem be be pretty slow from time to time.

Very enjoyable evening!

By Elizabeth C |

We enjoyed our Saturday evening at the Virginia Inn. While on vacation we were worried about going out if we did not have a reservation. Reservation made! The fish special was Halibut which my husband ordered. One of the best seafood entrees ever - outstanding. We shared a Caesar salad and I ordered the small plate of Dungeness crab cakes, delicious. GREAT service and a very enjoyable evening.

Close to the action

By Richard S |

Nice little bar and sidewalk cafe near the waterfront and Pike Market area. Outside dining is a good opportunity for people-watching. The Reuben sandwich was very good.

Great food and happy hour pricing.

By Chloe F |

We went during the half off small plates happy hour, and ordered the calamari, the pork belly, and the artisan cheese plate. The calamari was some of the best I've ever had and the pork belly and artisan were exceptional as well

Perfect to Stop in for a Drink and Food

By Lori H |

My husband loves this place as he remembers it when it was much smaller than it is now. The woodwork in this establishment is impressive. The service is great and they have a big selection of spirits and beers. We only stopped in for drinks on previous trips but this time, we had an appetizer. I have food allergies (soy, dairy, sesame) and asked about the calamari. I love it but most places use buttermilk and sometimes fry it in soybean oil. This was not the case here. They just use flour and didn't bat an eye at accommodating me. And it was delicious. Can't wait to go back!

Nice little bar

By Traveller52GM |

Called in here for a drink one afternoon and it was good. Loved their local pear cider and as it was happy hour I ordered their oyster Rockefeller for $6. Received 4 huge oysters with Rockefeller covering and 4 slices of roll and butter- how good was that. Cider was $4 and $6 staff were very nice and our waitress told us that it was one of the oldest bars in Seattle and that "Singles" was filmed there so it was a well known bar

Likely the most overpriced meal we’ve ever had

By Chris S |

Likely the most overpriced meal we’ve ever had. The food was good, but my kids shared a plate and my wife and I shared a plate. Plus we ordered a salad. The plates were absolutely tiny. After tip we spent $90. I get location, but I’ve been to expensive, niche places before.

Surprisingly good

By PeterHarg |

We walked by this place several times while visiting Seattle. Always crowded but assumed it was just another tourist spot. Amazing fresh and great tasting fish and chips and my cheeseburger was excellent. I would definitely go back.

Food was wonderful

By Marcia E |

The food was wonderful has been around since 1903. A must visit if you are in the seatle area. Each meal prepared presented was so very delicious from appetizers to desert.

Just what we needed

By Maria M |

After a 10 hour flight and too much airline food this was just what we needed. Fish and chips were great, Caesar salad nice and fresh and the Salad Nicoise with fresh tuna cooked perfectly. Nice and clean, lovely serving staff and priced just right. Stands out from all the fast food restaurants.

Best Caesar Salad I’ve ever had

By Cathy G |

I was in town on business and just wanted a quiet table to myself. I ordered the Caesar salad and added smoked salmon. The salad came with gorgeous croutons, huge pieces of shaved Parmesan and a two generous pieces of amazing salmon. Service was super friendly and I felt well cared for and comfortable. Not much to look at but the food was amazing.

Unpretentious bistro with great food!

By mamamichele2015 |

Had a lovely Birthday dinner before a show at Moore Theater (just a block away, so very convenient). Al 5 in our party LOVED their meals: Beef Bourguignon, Steak, Salmon....and the bonus for me was being able to have fantastic, fresh GLUTEN-FREE fish and chips. The best GF fish & chips I have ever had in 9+ years! The drinks were great too. TIP: go for Happy Hour and get in on some creative drinks and an imaginative appetizer menu.

Sidewalk Cafe Feel

By haroldtoronto |

Dropped in around the supper hour for a drink and supper around 5 pm. Beer list was decent and the menu was as well. We both ordered the fish and chips as well as a couple of pints of beer each. Fish was over done and the fries / chips excellent. Beer select was great and the ones we ordered tasted great as they local beers. Our waitress was very welcoming and attentive to our needs during our stay. The sideway are of the Inn gives you that Paris feel.

Great food and friendly service

By PacCoastTravel |

Stopped in after shopping and strolling around the market. I'm from Seattle but had never been to the Virginia Inn. Apparently a scene in Singles was filmed here? Who knew. Fish and chips (gluten free!) were excellent and a huge portion. The fries were fantastic. We also split a halibut sandwich and loved it. Solid beer selection. Staff was super friendly and attentive. Will definitely return.

IT'S #1 - The BEST CRAB CHOWDER EVER (I tried 8 during WA & OR road trip)

By Chris M |

We were on a road trip to complete our VISIT ALL THE US STATES, with an Alaskan Cruise and then WA and OR! In Alaska, I started my "find the best crab chowder" quest. The Virginia Inn was recommended by "locals" and I have to say (after trying 8 WA & OR chowders, it is #1. WHY - excellent flavor, creamy, chuck full of CRAB not big with potatoes. Hubby had fish and chips with Pacific Rockfish (now his favorite) and which was not heavily breaded.

Private party

By lady58_11 |

A friend was moving to Mexico and had his going away party at the V-Inn. It was all apps from the menu and the option of staying for dinner. Everything was fresh and tasty. Despite the warm evening and the noise level raising as it got more crowed the waitstaff was easy and welcoming.

2nd Annual pub crawl

By dmgonzales |

The happy hour appetizers are amazing! The mussels and crab cakes are to die for.. we'll be back again next year for sure.

Late dinner - slow service

By tahinton2016 |

We flew into Seattle Friday evening and by the time we got to our room and back out on the street, it was 10PM. The only place open was Virginia Inn - lucky us! No really! The food was delicious - the service was good, when they came around.

Great location, better food!

By April7901 |

After a long touristy day in Seattle, the last thing I wanted was to delve into the Pike Place Market and find a restaurant there. I stumbled onto the Virginia Inn, which is super close but not right in the thick of the Market. Lovely atmosphere, and great staff. Delicious food. Not super crowded when I was there (Monday evening around 7).

Just a couple blocks from Pike Street Market

By Bill O |

In town on business. First, I visited for solo dinner at the bar. Menu is higher end than normal bar food and good value. Around a dozen beers on tap with a list of mainly local beers and types appealing to all palates. I liked it so much that I returned for lunch the next day. The burger was amazing with a fresh bun and toasted onions to my surprise.

Great afternoon rest stop

By Angela P |

We stopped in to recharge from the Pike Place market craziness. Sat at the bar. Had wonderful service. Enjoyed some beer and a plate of charcuterie. Delicious sample plate, great for sharing. Wonderful spot for visiting and people watching. Seating inside, outside and at the bar.

Very rude owner

By David Ramirez Vadillo |

They made a huge deal out of an international ID to order an alcoholic drink. The server argued he did not know how to read it and refused to serve me. He called the owner, who was quite rude to both us and a third party who was trying to help us after noticing we were being mistreated. The owner seems to be one of those people who enjoy feeling important by crushing other people. We had to stop at the drinks and walk away. We will never dine here again. It was a very frustrating experience.

European vibe

By Jo S |

Bustling venue with attentive service. A variety of dietary needs catered to for those requiring them. We went at 6.30pmish for a quick drink and nibble before our next adventure. European feel to the decor, some wobbly tables.

Top food, affordable price.

By srirava |

GReat service, fresh food, friendly and helpful staff. tables on the street or cosy inside. recommend virginia inn if you are in the Pike Place area

Last evening meal but not the best

By helenandpaul13 |

we popped in here on our last night in Seattle. We had searched round for a good quality restaurant but somehow ended up here and couldn't bothered to walk any further. It's situated by first avenue and a short walk from the Pike Market. There are tables ousted but we sat inside because it was just too hot. I sat inside and started with a bowl of clam chowder. I persuaded my daughter to try some too as she had not eaten it before. We both thought it was delicious but it could have been better it served in a bread roll. She then had fish and chips and I had the Risotto. Mum did not have a starter but tried the beef bourguignon which she said was sumptuous. The steak was cooked OK but not up with the best of them and my Risotto was ok but had a very strong lemon zest, which was not as described on the menu and could not be eradicated even with lots of black pepper. This was a pity as it was cooked just the way I like it. Can't remember how must it cost but it was about $70 for the lot, which was more that it was worth really.

Gluten Free Paradise

By Carol H |

I was looking for a restaurant near the Moore Theatre. I searched and many came up. I started looking at menus and this one came up with gluten free fish and chips. I eat out a lot and have never seen this. Since getting Celiac disease several years ago, I have missed fish and chips. It was delicious. My two friends had Gumbo and enjoyed it very much. They had three gluten free desserts and we could not decide which one to share so we ordered all three. The carrot cake was the best! I wish it were not in Bell Town because I never get down there.

Great dinner-Reasonably Priced

By Christina M |

My mom and I wandered around looking for a place for dinner during our last night I. Seattle. We wanted seafood that was good and well-priced. That is exactly what we found. The service was great and so was the food. This is classic Seattle and worth a visit. We both had the salmon which was flavorful and paired nicely with the sauce and veggies. I had tiramisu for dessert.

Business Group Dinner Gathering

By Lawrence H |

Our group met for dinner and drinks after a full day of meetings while we were in town. The service was very good and staff was attentive to our needs. The food was good and no one had a complaint with any of the wide variety we had ordered. I would recommend giving this one a try if you are in the City. No delays, good food and friendly staff....can't go wrong right!?

New Years Eve

By normsp |

I had dinner at The Virginia Inn on new years ever this year and all I can say is WOW! My wife and I joined some new friends who had made this into a yearly tradition and we had a fantastic time. The food was excellent and as folks left the restaurant the staff cleared the table and cranked up the dance music so we could dance. It was a short walk up the street to see the fireworks at the Space Needle at midnight. All in all a great evening.

Very disappointed with the service and the food was on the verge of acceptable

By Suliman C |

Very disappointed with the service and the food was on the verge of acceptable. :( We had a server that was out of it completely. You make your own judgment. I think the owner should prohibit staff from being intoxicated while working. We were a party of 5, and asked for appetizers and mains. The order was delayed by 45 min. the soups, and salads were placed on the table at the same time with the stakes and fish. I complained to the waitress that the order took too long, and why I am having the soup at the same time as my main meal? I said that the food will get cold. She told me that NEXT time, I should ask HER to get my soup in advance of the meal. I told her that no restaurant does that and dropped the subject. So basically it was my fault, for not being specific. The food was acceptable but not what you expect from a French restaurant. May be there are a lot of tourists in Pike Market, and the chef thinks that the average client does not know how French dished should taste. I am sorry that I spend my money there.

Great location, service, food and price

By jacknval97 |

We ate outside and our kind waiter sat us where we had a view down to the waterfront. We watched a protest go by, watched people climb up the steep hill, had a great meal and enjoyed our evening very much. A recommend it!

Convenient Spot with Character

By Augietown |

Very friendly and accommodating staff -- we were in a hurry -- and incredible cod fish and chips. Full bar.

Great fish and chips!

By bloomingidiot |

I'm a sucker for fish and chips, and Virginia Inn has one of the best I've tried. This is a great place for fresh, local food and good beer. It's casual and reasonably priced, too. Our server, Jackelyn, took good care of us. Others in our group had the halibut sandwich and the gumbo, both yummy choices.

Good food, great service

By DeanMurphy2020 |

Virginia Inn “took flight” in 1903, the same year as the Wright Brothers’ experiment at Kitty Hawk. I had the Classic Fish & Chips ($15), and for $6, a dark ale called Ridgetop Red Ale. I didn’t realize how warm it was in Seattle, and that ale evaporated rather quickly☺, so I had to have another Irish Anesthesia, the Nine Pound Porter ($6). It’s described as “chocolaty” but this robust dark ale has no resemblance to my favorite sweet treat. With a name like Murphy, the Irish ancestry is evident and the appreciation of the gift of the gods that goes with it. I highly recommend this, if you prefer dark ale. Service at Virginia Inn is superior. The server provided much information about Seattle and its local flavor. I was referred by registration staff at Moore Hotel on Second Avenue near Virginia Street (recommended), and glad I walked the two blocks to enjoy this respite in one of my favorite cities.

Too much salt!

By R&D |

It seems that American restaurants have a serious love affair with salt. And, the Virginia Inn's fish and chips is a prime example of this love affair. The fish was flaky with a crisp crust and looked like it would be fantastic...until you ate it and all you tasted was salt. The chips were also loaded with salt. Two of us ordered this dish and both experienced the same over-salting, so this was not a one-off issue. For what we got, the meal was certainly overpriced.

We loved it

By Sula |

Amazing to get really excellent food in such an historic place. Service was fast, friendly and efficient, scallops and crab cakes excellent, french fries top.

Delicious Food!

By Shawn P |

Happened to stop here for lunch. I had the halibut special with home made chips which was yummy! Husband had fish and chips with really good fries! A great lunch and comfortable sit down!

Landmark in Seattle

By warren D |

The first time I was in Seattle I’ve visited this eatery And it has been a favorite stop ever since. Oh very nice stop to chill on first Avenue.

Overpriced, hungry and mildly begrudging

By chris_w01 |

struggle to see how this places keeps going with Pike Place market on its doorstep. Can only be because most places in the market shut by 8pm. Food quality is decent, fish cake and asparagus but $13 for 1 medium fish cake is overpriced. So hungry had to have a dessert (a poor pecan pie) which is say something for US eateries. Service good but the place was quiet (devoid of atmosphere a buzzing Inn should have). Gordon Ramsey next stop to reinvigorate.

good choice

By MissMez |

Stopped in here for lunch because it was conveniently located and ended up really enjoying the food. Nice sandwiches, crab cakes, salads, local beers. Good service too. Bonus: you can actually carry on a conversation without having to shout over the music.

Downtown Lunch

Good location, good food, enjoyed small plates menu. Nice glass of wine. Perfect place to take a break and rest while enjoying the shopping and sights downtown.

Great find!

By 2013traveldoc |

Great find, around the corner but far enough from the overcrowding and hustle of the marketplace. Lagers amazing and good delicious. Staff nice too! Shame we are only here for a cruise stop, otherwise we would be back tomorrow!

GLUTEN FREE HEAVEN

By WaywardGringa |

Delicious food and so very happy to have so many wonderful gluten free choices. The staff was great, owner is very personable. We enjoyed a delightful lunch! Also clearly adhering to covid safety protocols, which is awesome. I HIGHLY recommend Virginia Inn!

What a find

By curranvjim |

Very cool spot. Hot food. Very tasty and perfect temp on the Ridgetop! Well run. Historical. Lots of wood on the bar. Nice and friendly. I like it an I will be back.

Better places to go in Seattle

By Seán Donegan |

Over all I would say this experience was average. We ordered Caesar salads which were just okay. I also found the service to be a little lacking. Would recommend going for food elsewhere as there are many other options.

Interesting Lunch Spot

By Rebekajean |

Food was good, atmosphere was relaxing, wait staff was friendly. Choices were a bit limited but everything was well presented. The seating was uncomfortable for me. Hard benches and bad backs don't mix. Hubby had crab cakes and said they were OK but a bit too much breading. Friends had haddock and shrimp. Both said it was good. I had haddock and it was flavorful and cooked nice and tender. Salad was fresh tasting. The place was not crowded yet a little noisy but we enjoyed the decor. We would dine here again when in Seattle

A real slice of Seattle!

By travelwithmorealoha |

The perfect Seattle moment. The warm and cozy atmosphere, as the wind and rain pelted the windows made me feel like I had found a home, if only for the afternoon. We had just visited the Northwest Woodworkers Gallery down the street and asked were we might eat lunch and they both wholeheartedly recommended The Virginia Inn Restaurant & Bar. A true vintage spot established back in 1903, it has retained much of its charm and quirky independence, and the chef has elevated it's menu into the 21st century while still keeping its historic roots. It was fun to see people, smile and share a bite of each others meals as the wind whipped up a frenzy outdoors. I had a wonderful homemade smoked Salmon filet on a bed of wild greens with marinated Beets and Feta salad and warm fresh bread. It was a wonderful lunch and an unforgettable memory of my day in Seattle. I will definitely return.

A Real Gem

By Gay N |

We happened upon this place while visiting with friends. What a find! Interesting and varied menu. Food was exceptional! So were the Bloody Mary’s! One block up the hill from Pike Market. Historic building and warm casual atmosphere. Loved it.

Good, fast, service

By jinnes |

This was the closest restaurant to our hotel, so we gave it a try. It has seats both inside and out, with outside seats facing 1st Avenue. The service was friendly and efficient. They have a good range of local beers on tap. The food was good - nothing fancy, but very satisfying after a six hour drive to get to Seattle.

Yummy kinch

By Bernie G |

I had the gumbo - it had a good depth of flavour, but I could t help but feel, where is the other half of my meal? It’s a very small portion for $14. Thank goodness they served some sourdough bread on the side, or i’d have left hungry. My partner had the fish n chips. Those were good, and the fish was light and fluffy and delicately breaded. Funky bistro atmosphere. Good location. Swift service. Solid.

Great food

By Stopfoodie |

Just got back from very good meal got there at 4:30 so enjoyed happy hour starter waited till 5:00 for dinner it was great burger best yet , New York strip very tasty and the beer excellent.

Terrible service

By Robert H |

We had a big group and was very disappointed. Would not recommend. The fish was overcooked and the prices were very high for what you get. Ordered two crab cakes and it was $22 with tips. The fries were good but most of the other foods were over cooked

Good food, great service, nice simple wine selection. Recommended.

By Tom W |

Wandered along 1st Ave. looking for food on a weekday. We stopped to read all the menus and the VI's looked good. It is an inviting place, which is unusual along 1st street, as it is populated with many cool bars for well-paid singles, mixing acidic $16 cocktails. For us, the VI offered a delicious grilled sockeye salmon and a charcuterie plate that were excellent. The service was attentive, friendly, upbeat. Recommended.

We were completely happy

By Paula_GSantaMonica |

This is a lovely place. The menu has a strong French bistro influence (fabulous moules frites) and is relaxed with excellent service. The room is historical, beautiful and warm with a great old wooden bar and original old white tile floors. The Virginia Inn is next to a popular small strictly French restaurant, we were wondering if they share a kitchen. Everything we ordered, including the drinks and wine, was excellent.

Loved the service and location

By Trvl1961 |

Out of our group of six, five ordered the fish and chips. Nice hand cut fries and three chunks of fish. The batter on the fish looked crisp and brown but it was too greasy. The first clue was the small pool that formed on the plate under each piece. The server was friendly and our orders arrived quickly. I'd return but would try something else.

Excellent place near pike place market

By Karim Maarouf |

We came here for dinner as we were close to pike place market at the time. The restaurant is small but very cozy and we were seated outside. I had a chowder as a starter and then fish and chips. Both were excellent. The servers were very attentive and knowledgeable as well. Would definitely recommend coming here.

Nice informal place to eat, good food at a decent price

By PaulCvdB |

Had dinner here with some colleagues, party of 4. The ambiance and service were informal and quite pleasant. The food was remarkably good for such a rather low profile place. And nicely priced too. Not a very wide choice, but broad enough for fish lovers and meat lovers etc. Good choice of wines and beers also.

What a great find

By Ben L |

We were at Pike place markets looking for a drink and something to eat and what a find the Virginia Inn was ........ Amazing food and the bar/wait staff were brilliant ..... You have to try the sautéed prawns.

Handy

By Wayne K |

First night in Seattle and the hotel recommended the Virginia. Good location for us but is away from the main eats. Still close though. Friendly staff but took a while for them to pop back to take the order. Good options for food, beer and wine. Seems to average prices for Seattle. Sitting outside (when it isn't raining or about to rain) is nice but be warned that street is busy and not quiet at all.

Nice Pitstop for drinks

We stopped here on a few occasions and sat outside in the sunshine - watching people struggle up the steep hill from Pike Place Market (which we had also done ourselves). We shared fish and chips one of the days but usually we only had drinks. Staff friendly. Nice inside area too.
