Great Pizza / Suspect Area

By Travelaroundforfun |

Pro’s * FANTASTIC thin crust pizza * Prices are good - with low cost beer on tap * Good holidays decorating inside Con’s * In a rougher area * No-frills seating space * Unassuming exterior * They only take cash (no credit cards)

Holy smokes!

As a northsider, I don’t make it out to this area very often. But after hearing my SOUTHSIDE friends talk about this place for years, finally made a road trip down south. I walked in and was blown away by the smell and the feeling that this place has not changed in years, and in a great way. We were not able to dine in, so we took multiple pies home, par baked. The tavern style, thin crust pizza, was absolutely outstanding! I consider myself a pizza connoisseur, and I would put this as a top three pie. Hope to dine in on my next trip out.

Good pizza

By Eric |

The sauce is what makes this pizza very good (thin crust). We had the sausage pizza and it was a much better sausage topping than Lou Malnati's (who overdoes the sausage). It is cash only.

Best pizza ever

By 1Foodie |

First don't get nervous about the location, our gps took us through some pretty shady looking areas before we finally got here, But once you arrive it is in a decent area, we felt comfortable. We had the pizza, of course and it was nothing short of awesomeness. The the crust was the perfect crispy, flaky yummy crust you could ever ask for. We got ours with pepperoni and sausage, topped with the perfect amount of cheese, and I love that the sausage was in small crumbles all over the pizza so you got some in every bite. I'm pretty picky about my pizza and most places can't seem to get it right either the sauce is too sweet or too bland but boy this was perfect! the sauce was seasoned amazingly. We also really liked that the pizza was cut in small squares that way you won't be forced to have another whole in entire piece you could just have a small square if you wanted. We ordered a small for the two of us and left with half a pizza, they are huge, it was plenty. Now don't think you're going someplace fancy here, its definitely a hole in the wall complete with Christmas lights above the bar, menus that are falling apart and it's really old and beat down. One server was serving about 8 different tables but everyone was ordering pizza so it wasn't too bad we probably waited about 15 minutes for our pizza. I am so glad we went, and will stop back on our return flight.

Have been going there for over fifty years. Upbeat casual place with great pizza. Remember the cash.

Can’t believe I fill for the hope of this loser pizza joint. Worst ever. Lousy service, crappy pizza. Couldn’t wait to leave. Ruined my day because we saw the diners , drive-ins show. Did you pay Guy Fiedi to come to your place . Well I won’t trust his judgment ever again and thanks for a waste of a afternoon.

This is Chicago pizza

By jwillie13 |

The BEST pizza in Chicago. Out of towners talk about deep dish, but the best in Chicago is Vito and Nick's thin crust. You can believe that thin crust hold the toppings. Reviewers only give 3.5 for atmosphere. That's crazy. Yeah, it's crowded and a bit outdated, that's what I want. It's a true neighborhood pizza place.

Who needs selection when the pizza is this good!

By constance w |

This pizzia joint was recommended by Smoque one of our favorite places to eat. Old area rundown. We felt like we stepped back in time upon walking in here. Voices sounding like they were straight out of the godfather movies! I kinda slunked down in our booth to look around and evesdrop on all the interesting accents and interesting characters here. The manager of smoque said his parents had been going here for pizza for over 40 years...and it lived up to its reputation as a proper pizza loaded with flavor and pazzaz!

Excellent Pizza!

By Nick K |

Great thin-crust pizza. We had a pizza with half sausage and half Italian beef (they make the beef and sausage from scratch in-house). We also ordered a cheese and a pepperoni pizza. The pizza was delicious. The crust was thin and crisp but still had a little chew to it (it didn't crumble like a cracker). I know this place is out of the way, but it is worth the trip.

Amazing

By Anti-Pa |

The place is a bit of a dive but the pies are the best. It is an iconic place for south siders. My family had many a pie from here. Dine in, the pizza is better served there.

Good Pizza, cheap beer, great server, not much else

By John P |

Walked in , sign says cash only. We were seated quickly, they haven't worked on looks in a long time. Waitress was excellent. Old Style and Pabst Blue Ribbon for $1.50. Bottles also available. Pizza was good, but the crust didn't hold up anything, better off using a fork to eat. I've had much better pizza for far less money. But I had to try it.

who changed the recipe?

By SC45LLL |

we’ve been coming here for 40 years growing up in evergreen park and oak lawn. live in south carolina now and come back twice a year…..last time (before covid) 11/19. still excellent and worth the trip, but we visited this past thursday (5/20] and there was too much tomato sauce and not enough cheese 😱

Amazing

By T L |

I was visiting family in the area and had a taste for pizza and was blown away by this place. The sauce is the reason their pizza is sooo good . The service is excellent as well. This place is a must try if in the area.

Don't go out of your way like I did

By Chip B |

On my first visit to Vito & Nicks I loved the vibe, the pizza and looked forward to going back when I was in the area. Attending the Chicago Fire soccer game put me in the area and I could not wait to go back. However this time was disappointing to say the least. Service was bad as we waited 10 min before someone took our order and then she just walked up and said, "can I take your order". No greeting, my name is.. or anything. I will say that she was very busy however we still would like a greeting and preferably before 10 min. The pizza was average at best, nothing like my first visit. When the bill came the total was roughly $45 and since it is a cash only establishment, I gave her $60 (3-$20 bills). She asked if I needed change and I said "yes". My plan was to keep $5 and leave the rest with her which would be a $10 tip ( 22%). However she just said oh thank you and never came back with change. I sat for a several minutes and actually saw her watching me but never brought my change. Now $5 is not that big of deal and I was not going to say anything to her if she wanted the extra $5 but it is just the principle of the situation. Will probably not go back!

One of the best tavern style pizzas I’ve had

By 02Hoosier |

Vito and Nick’s lived up to its reputation as one of the best pizza restaurants in Chicago. The decor is legit old school pizzeria and just a great vibe. It’s south side (suburbs) Chicago at it’s finest. The restaurant is worth driving out of the way for because the pizza is absolutely worth it! If you’re looking for awesome thin crust this is the spot!

Good eats

You know reading through the reviews, there are all types of people who visit this place. Whether you stumble across it on your own accord or get motivated after watching a segment on Triple D. The one thing you can take away from this place is, that they do things there own way and without fear of negativity similar to that in these reviews. Sure the decore could use some updates but doing so would take away from what this place is and represents. Stop in grab a pizza and beer or watch the game. They will make you feel like family.

Great Pizza, Awful atmosphere/management

By spacekat_8 |

The only reason I'm giving more than one star is that the pizza was good although a large does not go very far as it is sooooo thin! For whatever reason they decided to open an hour later at 12 noon on Christmas eve day and failed to inform the staff who told us they would open at 11 when called! We decided to wait. When they did open the doors, the temperature in the dining area I'm guessing was around 55 - 60 degrees! There were elderly women in our party who were freezing and all the other guests were wearing their jackets! We asked the waitress several times to turn up the heat, she stated that she hadn't even got to that yet! The plates were literally ICE cold so when you put your pizza on them it immediately cooled to room temperature! (which is a task in itself as they cut the pie in to very small pieces and give you nothing but a fork to painstakingly scrape and serve it with pieces of wax paper stuck to the bottom!) The bar quickly filled with very loud patrons who made it difficult for us to visit and converse with one another. from a management standpoint (and I have managed several much larger entities) Cutting costs should be done elsewhere than mistreating your customers by saving on heat, Staff and serving utensils!

True Chicago Pizza!

By Wanderlust2.0 |

Delicious tavern thin crust pizza! Much better than any of the deep dish places. True Chicago grit in this place. Cash only, so keep that in mind!

Awesome as always

By Coachf72 |

Saturday night visit, only waited 15 minutes for a table. Samantha was our server and she was AWESOME. As busy as it was, she was fast and efficient. Salad was big enough to share. Pizza was awesome. Italian beef pizza is my favorite. The cold beer on tap is my favorite and is cheap. This place is a south side landmark. Friendly neighborhood place. Make sure and stop in.

Just good pie’s

By tGoNosh |

As the reviews state over and over. Great pizza, great atmosphere and great service. Must go place with the family

Believe it or not ,I got sick a second time !!!!!

By po153c |

Yes, I dont know if its me, a black guy coming into a white restaurant or just bad ingredients in their food but I was home ridden for three days after eating there..... twice !!!!! Dont get me wrong, Ive been here five times in the last couple years. The favor of the pizzas are great. But I think they have some spoiled ingredients from time to time. Ive lost time from work after eating there. Wont be back.

They lived up to their reputation

By larrycollins3 |

I went with my family for lunch. A city inspector delayed the arrival of our pizza. But shortly after he sat down to eat, pleased at his inspection. We were served one of the best pizzas. The crust was crispy and the sauce and toppings were very tasty.

Was hoping for great pizza, but got good pizza instead...

By Coach_199 |

I grew up in this neighborhood, so we had Vito and Nick's pizza regularly. I thought it was awesome pizza back then. So, many years later, I brought one of my kids here to enjoy some of Chicago's thin crust pizza. We sat down, were greeted right away, and the waitress took our order right away. Pizza didn't take too long to arrive, and it was hot. But, it was just ok. I really wanted to say it was some of the best pizza I've had, but it didn't hit that mark. Maybe it was just a bad day. Now you need to keep in mind that it's still really good pizza. This still beats out pizza that I've eaten in plenty of other cities inside of and outside of Illinois. But, as far as Chicago thin crust pizza, there are a few locations that are better. Again, very fast and friendly service, and pretty good Chicago thin crust pizza. Plus, they serve RC Cola!

I WILL HOLD OUT FOR VITO AND NICK'S PIZZA EVERYTIME

By Moony12 |

I think I became a foodie when I was about thirteen. I discovered Vito & Nicks pizza when I was sixteen; they were and still are in the Ashburn area of Chicago, IL where I grew up 84th & Pulaski (Crawford). They had recently moved there from the city. I know they have been at the current location some 50+ years. The first thing I ever ordered was an Italian sausage sandwich, It was the best I ever had in my short life and still is now. I told my parents about it and we started ordering pizza every weekend. It is simply the best thin crust pizza. After I was married and lived in the South Shore area briefly we would drive a half hour to have that wonderful pizza. I then moved to Tinley Park, IL and still continued to go there for pizza. It was a ritual for me to take my sister there for her birthday, treat anyone that was gracious enough to pick us up from the airport to a pizza dinner or just go there. I recently moved out of state and you guessed it, my final meal in Chicago was at Vito and Nicks. Six weeks later we returned for a visit, yup, back to Vito and Nicks. The décor is stuck in the 60’s, aqua chairs and booth seats, carpet on the wall and multi color light fixtures. Over the bar is a drop ceiling with Christmas lights of various blue colors hanging up. They took the lights down a while back and got so many complaints that they were gone, they put them back up. Old Style is on tap and they don’t sell coke or Pepsi, only Royal crown or sprite. You can get your choice of bottle beers and they are about $3.00. I am very traditional about my pizza and only order cheese and sausage. I did try a sausage and shrimp pizza that sounds pretty out there but was really good. The wait staff is great and the bartenders are excellent. They guys making the pizza are visible when you come and go and they always say thanks and tell you to have a good evening. They don’t take credit cards, but they have an ATM and they don’t deliver. Great place for two or a party. It’s a lot of fun for a sports event on TV.

Beat thin crust pizza in Chicago....

Heard about the place in "Diners, Drive Ins and Dives". What a find! Go there for the pizza and enjoy. Limited menu and limited beer selections but, with pizza like that, who cares?

Best Thin Crust On The Planet!!

By James H |

I made the trip while in town for a poker tournament at the Horseshoe in Hammond. I am so glad I took the drive to see what the hype was all about. The pizza was fantastic! The service was great, the gentlemen at the bar served me and walked me their the process being a newbie. I have to say if your anywhere near this place make the trip over to Vito and Nick's you won't leave disappointed. I told a friend the setting reminds me of when my Mom used to take me to the bar in the 1970's :) When that was still legal of course. Thank you for having me it was an honor to try your legendary pie.

Best Pizza in Chicago!

By Scott A |

Old school throw back that still only takes cash. The Old Style is cold and served in mini glasses that just add to the fun of this place. The pizza is amazing...love just getting the thin crust sausage (no need to add anything else to it, this thing is packed with flavor). Always a must if flying into Midway Airport!

LOVE

By Coachf72 |

A Chicago classic right here. Love this place and the pizza. Cash only. Don’t forget. Old Style on tap is the best. Pizza is thin and crispy. Toppings are delicious. My wife got a salad?? She loved it. Feels like stepping back into old Chicago. Be ready to wait a little bit, but just have another Old Style.

Second to none!!!

By Jkarr11 |

We were a group of 12 last night at Vito and Nick's. It was an outstanding experience. When you walk in the front door, you are greeted by the kitchen staff rolling out the dough and making pizza right in front of you. While the adults sat down, the kids pulled up chairs and spoke with the pizza makers. They were so welcoming. They gave the kids dough to touch and feel, showed us how they rolled it out. Told us a little about themselves. It was a blast for the kids!!! They loved it! They even got to watch the guys in the kitchen toss the pizza board with such speed that you almost missed it! 3 brothers from Joliet work harmoniously making pizzas. It was a treat to watch. Now to the food. The pizza has SUPER, SUPER thin crust. Our favorite was the roast beef and giardiniera pizza. We also had sausage peppers mushrooms and black olives- fantastic. My brother in law had a roast beef sandwich with crispy fries. He said it was really delicious. Decent beer list. We had a carafe of red and a carafe of white. Don't except a huge bottle list..you're in a pizza place! It was sufficient. Over all the pizza is one of the best we've ever had. We drove from the O'Hare area to check this place out, roughly 40 minute drive. Everyone agreed we will make the trek again, it was definitely worth it. This place is an institution that started in 1965. Once you try the pizza you'll know why they are still around! Cash only and they don't offer deserts so punch in Andy's custard and top the night off with a sundae.

Great cracker thin crust pizza

By jerome h |

Being a pizza connoisseur and since "Triple D" did a review of the place you know I had to give it a try. Living in Chicago's way northside I had to make a special trip for this way southside pizzeria. Pizza was great, I rate it a 8/10. We had 1/2 pepperoni and the other 1/2 was sausage, mushroom, garlic. They baked mine perfectly not one part of the crust was burnt. The ingredients: sausage, pepperoni, cheese were good maybe just a bit salty but their cracker thin crust was excellent. Staff/ waitress were polite greeting us coming in and leaving. Their pizza's only come in two sizes 14 and 16 inch - and of course very thin crust so if you come in a bigger group you may have to order another pizza / or sides. If I'm ever in the neighborhood again I would come back.

In celebration of George

By Tim M |

Known for their pizza, beer, and family gatherings.Surprising, a lot of Cub fans for this southwest Chicago pizzeria. I am a first timer for Vito and Nick's. It is a thin crisp cust pizza with an excellent sauce. I was able to sample various types of pizza, ie. veggy, pepperoni, and sausage. My personal preference is the meat. It seems to me that the meat has more of their fabulous sauce. It is a rated highly for my family that lives nearby.

Don't judge a book by its cover!

By RamblingRambler |

We'd punched "best pizza in Chicago" into Google and came across a list that included this place, and without much thought we put it into our GPS and headed here. When we arrived we thought there must have been some kind of mistake, because we were seemingly in the middle of nowhere and the place looked like it was falling apart at the seams. We seriously thought about leaving before even setting foot inside, and only ended up going in because there didn't seem to be any other options nearby. In the end, the pizza turned out to be delicious - so much so that we took all the leftovers to go and devoured them later in the car. Would definitely recommend it to anyone willing to venture off the beaten track. A large of the house special is more than enough for two!

The Best Thin Crust

By Kathy20142014 |

I have been going to Vito & Nick’s for 50 years and it is consistently wonderful! Awesome thin crust pizza with plenty of toppings!

Go For the Pizza

By Dennis C |

My wife and I are admitted, Chicago, thin crust pizza snobs. This place, known to South Siders as Nick and Vito's is the Holy Grail of pizza. Thin, crispy (we like it well done), with savory sauce and sausage. Salads are generous and the fried zucchini great as an appetizer. The only crust as good as this was at the old Santucci's by Midway airport. Don't miss it.

Iconic Southside pizza

By Tom M |

A fan for almost 50 years, but our recent visit the pizza was not what it used to be. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived, but waited an exceptionally long time for pizzas. When they arrived it was obvious they had been overcooked. The service was adequate, but not attentive. There was a cubs playoff game on tv so perhaps the entire staff was more interested in that than their customers.

World Famous Pie! Nick n' Vito's...or is it the other way around?!

By Pizza Joe aka 'hungry, man, for pizza' |

My daughter just came back from a seminar...in Europe; first meal back: sausage&cheese from Vito n' Nick's! Hasn't been able to have a REAL pie since she left Chicago for grad' school! Best pizza... anywhere! That's a reputation!!(Italy, included!!) Makes me hungry just WRITTING about it!

Yum

By drmidwife |

One of the best thin crust pizzas in Chicago. Very reasonable prices. Try the creamy garlic dressing!

For decades I have heard nothing but good things about Vito & Nick's Pizzeria; they were WRONG!

By KungFuJoe |

For decades I have heard nothing but good things about Vito & Nick's Pizzeria. So when out of town guest came in for a visit and was hungry for pasta, I suggested that we try Vito & Nick's Pizzeria; WRONG CHOICE! The ambience reminded me of a high school cafeteria gone wrong, but this cafeteria had a bar inside. The place was dark, small and dirty. The service was slow and the lady that served us, seemed that she was annoyed that customers even came into the place. When we ordered the food, that's when things went from bad to worse. We ordered the tomato bread for an appetizer, spaghetti and meatballs for dinner and a small cheese and sausage pizza as well; as for our drinks, we ordered a Coca-Cola. Well... the Coca-Cola was fantastic, it was cold, sweet and delicious, as for the other items: The tomato bread tasted like microwave tomato bread that you would buy in the freezer section at your local grocery store, but burnt. The spaghetti and meatballs were such foul tasting, that it tasted like something just died on your dish and rigor mortis set in; I still can't get that nasty taste out of my mouth, no matter how many time I brushed my teeth last night. The pizza was mediocre, it tasted like a frozen pizza that was microwaved and sent to our table. If you want to tempt your fate, try this place. If not, I recommend that you save your money and go somewhere else. Oh, by the way, they only accept cash only; no credit cards or debit cards allowed.

Over priced poor quality

By John R |

I descided to give this place a try since it was show cased on Diners and Drive in. The pizza was nothing special and definitely OVERPRICED PIZZA. I had order off there online menu and when I went to pick it up and pay I was charged another price from there online menu which is FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. The quality of pizza was NOTHING SPECIAL. The biggest reason for me to avoid this place is the fact there customer service was poor. No proper greeting and getting your food out on time despite the pizza was ready for some quite town. If your white they might treat you differently but I would NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE DUE TO WASTE OF MONEY.

Best. Pizza. Ever.

By kestrel41345 |

This is the pizza that we hold up to all others. How does it compare to a sausage and jalapeño from Vito and Nick's? Living in the Caribbean now, none come close. Need that oven. But every time we come back to Chicago, we hit it. Hard.

Best Pizza in Chicago!

By Jordan MacAllister |

Absolutely the best pizzeria in the windy city! The venue has an old school cool feel to it and just so authentic. Family ran business for generations and they just do it right. Feels like grandmas house when you here. Must try when you in Chi City!

Checked off my Bucket LIST

By Sandy K |

This place has been on my pizza bucket list for awhile and last weekend I finally made the trek (yes ... over an hour from my house) with family. We knew enough to go at an off hour ( a little before 4 on a Saturday afternoon) and although the bar was full of patrons, there were plenty of table to choose from. Once you enter it's like stepping back into the past - nothing fancy about it! Yes, you can still get a pitcher of pop when seated at a table - although it's only RC products. Our server told us they'll been out of lettuce for a few days so no salads. But we were there for the pizza! And yes ... even though there were only three of us we ordered three different pizzas! After reading reviews I knew we had to try the beef/ 1/2 hot giardiniera with a side of gravy (au jus). After that we went with our favorites: one sausage/pepperoni and a sausage with half mushroom! After about a 30 minute wait the pizzas came out piping hot cut in small squares and we dug in. Wow ... just WOW! We dipped the beef pizza into the small cup of au jus and it was like a perfect marriage between pizza and Italian beef! My favorite was the sausage/mushroom - outstanding! The edges were crispy and the centers just the right amount of gooeyness! No ... we couldn't eat it all even though we gave it our best efforts with all of us being pizza lovers. But the leftovers heated up beautifully in a covered frying pan the next day. There was a part of me wistfully wishing I had ordered another sausage/mushroom to go ... it was THAT tasty! I can't wait to revisit!

The highlight of our recent visit to Chicago

By Stephen S |

We just spent 3 days in Chicago for a concert and the best experience we had was pizza & beer at Vito and Nicks. We arrived on a busy Saturday night in July, not long after the Sox game ended. The big parking lot was full but the cars turn over fast so we didnt have to wait long for a spot. The turn over for tables inside was quick but we didn't want to wait so we sat at the bar, where we had excellent service. The $1 glasses of Old Style were cold and delicious. We had the small House Special(sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, onions)pizza, which was the perfect amount of pizza for 2 people. The thin crust is crunchy and delicious. The locals were really friendly and we had a great time. The food was great, service was fast & friendly. We had a great meal at Vito & Nicks!

Pizza

By Tosh J |

This establishment is an insanely popular pizza place on the southwest side. I know a few “north siders” who drive 40 min to get it. I personally don’t understand the hype. I ordered thin crust and it appeared to be burned. While waiting in line I overheard another customer make comments/jokes about wanting his pepperonis made into the shape of a swastika. I felt extremely uncomfortable and unwanted. Lots of stares as we walked in.. we decided immediately to order out.

Great pizza, very authentic. There were 9 of us and everyone thought it was great. Easy in and out will be back next time I'm in the area.

First time diners and we were thoroughly impressed! Pizza was perfect, crust too! We will definitely be back and will recommend to family and friends! Thank you!

Delicious, but not a fan of bite size squares

By The Pedestrian |

First comfortable family style restaurant. Staff was friendly. The pizza was very tasty. It was nice having cheese over all the pizza, but somewhat charred. Missing the stringy cheese bite, because it's cut into bite size pieces? Could use more toppings spread over the pizza. Pizza Grade: C+. Thanks for reading. Avram

Went with my brother and his family the day after Thanksgiving. What great food. Pizza is truly excellent and the service was good too. It's an old neighborhood favorite with a very well deserved reputation for excellent pizza.

Pizza

Good thin crust pizza, definitely one of Chicago's, we ordered large pepperoni sausage onion green peppers extra sauce, my nephew from California loved it. We carried out but you can dine in also.

OUTSTANDING thin crust pizza.

By Field H |

The best thin crust pizza I have ever had. Restaurant is kinda dumpy, not well appointed, but the food was to die for.

Pizza No Vino

By Patricia L |

The pizza is pretty good, alto it's cut into really tiny pieces. Crust is thin with a nice char. Actually the small is quite large so 2 of us had enough for take home with, I might add, a traditional doggy bag not a styro box. I liked that. Salad was encrusted with croutons, way too many. Then there was the chianti. I like a red with my pizza but this chianti was ice cold.. I asked the waitress why they refrigerate the red. " Well that how we always do it." I don't know why, but it really spoiled it.

It pains me to write this

By Moldog81 |

I hadn’t been to Vito and nicks in probably 15 years. It was a daily hotspot for my uncle for 30 years, so we would go with him several times a year. Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon at 5:20 with a group of 7. Seated right away. Maybe half the tables were full. It took until 7:15 to get our 3 pizzas. I’d guess it takes about 3 minutes to prep a pizza, then about 12 to bake. The only thing I can think of that may have happened is that our whole group didn’t arrive at once, so I ordered for everyone, then they arrived 15 minutes later. And maybe the waitress didn’t want to enter the order until the whole group arrived, and then forgot? Regardless, no explanation was ever given. It was just this awkward thing when she finally brought to food. We had asked her and the bartender 2 or 3 times starting at about 45 minutes after the order was placed, and were told “it’s coming”. We watched as people who had come in well after us received their food - which was incredibly annoying. Th pizza itself was good, but we had a baby with us and a 2-hour drive home, so we really didn’t have that kind of time to waste. I have worked in a restaurant before, and when things like this happened (waitress forgot to enter order), they would put a “rush” on the food - basically, that order jumped to the front of the line. Confused as to why, when they were made aware there was a problem, they didn’t do this?

Love their pizza!

By kivec |

Their pizza was delicious. Too bad they don't make a family size as we gobbled up the large and wanted more. The crust is thin and cooked to perfection. The toppings are fresh and just the right amount. A pitcher of beer was only $7.50. What a bargin. Large eat in restaurant with good size bar. Service was fast and friendly. Would highly recommend this pizza joint in you are in the area.

Good neighborhood pizza

By Yuvi925 |

Small neighborhood restaurant. Cash only. Pizza was thin, crispy and tasty. We ordered sausage, green pepper, onion and mushroom. Made to order so it does take 30 min or more to get your order.

Best Thin Crust Pizza

Love their shrimp pizza!!! Have to tell them to make sure that they put a lot of shrimp on the pizza. Also had shrimp with sausage, great combination!

Chicago pizza joint

By 920cheriem |

Another taste of my childhood. Miss places like this since I left Chicago. Old fashioned bar right out of the 1960's with the best local pizza around. Thin crust, perfect sauce, great sausage. A Chicago pizza lover's dream. One thing though, they only take cash so don't forget to hit the ATM before you go.

Good Pizza

By #keenangoals |

Pizza was great. If you go here stick to the pizza they are known for this so stick with that. Other items on the menu we tried were apps and we wouldn't order again. Wait was a bit long but the pizza was worth it. No desserts if u like sweets. Pop was not the best.

Good food, awful service

By Kel071 |

Vito and NIck's is a hole in the wall restaurant with good food. The pizza was good and the atmosphere is fun. Unfortunately, our service was horrible. The waitress was completely rude to our large party (20 people) and obviously didn't like her job, She was upset because we wanted to split our checks (we asked in advance), and requested a salad without tomatoes. That request made her utter "Jesus" and roll her eyes. I've never been waited on by such a rude person. I wouldn't return.

Neighborhood Classic

By Sharon H |

If you're heading out of Midway and you're looking for good local fair, head to Vito & Nicks. The Italian Beef pizza is the best. Add hot giardineira and you will not be disappointed. This place is friendly, simple and unassuming. Bring cash because they don't take credit cards or checks. It is worth the drive over.

Vito and Nick's - Come for the Pizza and cold Old Style

By RichC583 |

We had been here before, but it's been a few years and it was great. I ordered the pizza, but my wife decided to try the "all you can eat" smelts. That was a mistake, the smelt came out looking very good served on a large bed of fries. The smelt were very salty, you could see the salt on top of the fish, too salty to eat. We asked the waitress (a fairly new one, but she was very good) for another shot of smelt with no salt on top. These came out much better, but they were very fishy tasting. Now, I know smelt can be fishy, but these were too much. She also didn't get a salad or the bread and butter as listed on the menu. We didn't complain and she really didn't want those. Probably the new waitress, just be aware. Not a lot of face coverings worn, one waitress had it below her nose and bartender had his below his chin. They were busy, but that's not an excuse. So, remember that going in. Order the pizza and the other Italian dishes and you won't be disappointed in the food. People are friendly and the servers are decent.

Still awesome 40 years later!

We went to Nick and Vito’s as kids. Went back for a visit and was our first stop. Did not disappoint. Just as delicious as we remembered. Cash only

Better than Deep Dish

By Jessica O |

Tried Chicago deep dish and we did not like it. This thin pizza was much better…. But we love our Fiori Pizza in Pittsburgh.

Solid thin crust pizza.

By Ryan A |

After seeing Thrillist name this as Chicago's best pizza and seeing it featured on Diners Drive ins and Dives, Vito and Nick's was added to my food bucket list. We stopped here on the way to Wrigley Field to watch Jake Arieta make short work of the Pirates. Despite being on the south side (Sox territory) there were a few other Cub fans there. My wife and I ordered a large half sausage, half cheese. We expected to have leftovers, but the crust was so cracker thin that we ate every last bit. It was also cut in to many small, bite sized pieces so it was easy to just keep digging in. The sausage was good, but not the best pizza sausage I have had. Maybe top 5, but not the top. The slices with sausage on them were definitely better than the cheese pieces. The amount of sauce was a bit light for my wife's taste, but I thought it was pretty well balanced. While I would not call Vito and Nick's the best pizza I have had (or even the best in the state) it was a solid pizza and worth a visit. It's only 5 miles from Midway airport so it makes an easy stop if you are flying in or out during business hours.

Way over-rated pizza

By mike m |

Folks who rate this pizza "best" need to get around more. The pizza here is average at best. It's not baked in a wood-fired oven, which by definition places it below the top rank. The tomato sauce was so salty as to be almost inedible. Crust was good, but lacked the texture and flavor of the best. Toppings were fresh and tasty, but not better than many other average pizzerias. It's relatively inexpensive, but that should not be a factor in seeking the "best". Not worth the drive if you don't live in the neighborhood, and not worth the wait.

Good as usual

By Ninnie |

Pizza is always good. Service is also consistently good. Prices are reasonable. Wine is ok. Definitely one of the better pizza places in the area.

Chicago Thin Crust Pizza Rocks!

By blanche&milver |

This place has been in business in Chicago for over 80 years & it's obvious why. Their thin crust pizza is delicious and the place itself is full of vintage ambiance. I'd love to come back on a Friday for the smelts! They have plenty of parking in their lot too, so you have no excuse not to give it a try!

Thin crust pizza in Chicago

Found this place on Diners Drive-ins and Dives. Guy F., and the reviews on TA did not steer us wrong. The service was great. The pepperoni pizza and meat ravioli were awesome.

Great!

By Emily T |

Never been here. Came with my husband and in laws. We ordered the breaded zucchini. Was the best I have ever had. Poppers were also amazing. Pizza was cooked perfectly. Definitely will be coming back!

Great Pizza

By DaveDavis22 |

Only downfall is that they are cash only, but there is an ATM onsite. Pizza is very tin, and is full of flavor

bring some napkins

By rich c |

always hit this pizza place up when your in the neighborhood. stopped for a take out today, thinking I could make it home without opening the top box. saw the steam coming out of the box, it was opened by the first stop light. grabbed some napkins and away it went.even got stopped by a train which made the ride that much more enjoyable. best pizza, well worth the ride !!!

Yummmmmmm

By flyairdave |

I've heard about Vito & Nick's Pizzeria for years and it was worth the wait. I live north of downtown and Vito & Nick's is way, way south. But it was worth the drive. The neighborhood is not exactly somewhere I'd want to be late at night. The restaurant is stuck in the 70s, but the pizza was one of the best ever. The service was very friendly.

Best Old Fashioned Cracker Thin Crust Tavern Pizza In Chicago

By Allyson R |

I've been eating Vito/Nick's Chicago pizza since I was a child growing up in Marquette Park Chicago. It was easy then 45 years ago, right up the street. Today I drive 30-40 minutes for it and I will as long as they keep dishing it up. This is a Chicago Southside cracker thin crust tavern pizza. The pizza shines when they bring it to your table, but not from grease. It is juicy but you will find no grease on that pan and paper. Just a combination buttery, salty, sweet and spicy nuances in every bite. It is amazing what they can load up on that pizza, on that cracker crust, and that pizza is not wet and doesn't messily flop on you. No one gets hurt! That family takes pride in that old recipe. Pay with cash but you'll probably have it on you as their prices almost seem as old fashioned as their recipe. Ambiance is old school, bar, some tables, a few old booths. Once that pizza comes out you won't be thinking about your seating. Trust me!

Horrible

By ron h |

I haven’t had a Vito and nicks frozen pizza in sometime. I do remember when I did it was the best frozen pizza I had. I saw them on sale at Brookhaven in Mokena for 6.99. I bought two. The worst frozen pizza I have ever had. It was so dry I couldn’t stand it. I threw it away and the other unopened one I had in the freezer.

The best Chicago thin crust za!

By Tiffany A |

This is a must come to pizza joint in Chicago. Not fancy, but the pizza makes up for it. My family / I are addicted to this place. Wish they had more locatons, but I'll continue to drive the distance for their delicious pizzas! Yum!!!

Daughter and husband loved their pizza

By c c |

You know you're in the right place when most everyone there is a local. My daughter loves thin crust pizza and this was by far her favorite pizza. This was in the top two pizzas between my husband and daughter. Our daughter will definitely be back and if we are in town anytime soon, so will we!

Good pizza. Double check your order!

By Liz |

Throwing it back to March 2021 at Vito and Nick's Pizzeria in Chicago! Pictured is both the fried cheese ravioli appetizer, as well as the cheese ravioli pasta. There was a bit of a mix up with the order, as the ravioli options are listed as "cheese ravioli" or "cheese raviolis" on the menu. Being my first time here, I didn't notice that there were two options, and thought that I was ordering the fried ravioli appetizer. I didn't realize that I needed to specify what I wanted and the person taking my order did not ask. They did fix the mix up while I waited, though it was obviously a bit begrudgingly on their part. Also pictured, is a side salad, garlic bread, and large thin crust cheese pizza. Mostly worth the quick detour to the Southside. 👌 Vito and Nick's is a family owned restaurant, started by Sicilian immigrants over 100 years ago. Locally dubbed "the best tavern style pizza in the city," it's worth checking out if you're in the area! 🍕 Just a little FYI to plan your visit, they are cash only and do not offer delivery! 💸

Delicious crisp salad and the best pizza in Chicago topped off with a frosty Bud Light. Fuugettaboutit .

No big deal

By D-31947 |

Visited 7/28/17. Expected a really good Chicago pizza. I personally wouldn't go out of my way to have an average pie.

One of the best the South Side has to offer.

By Anti-Pa |

I will keep this brief, I have been eating pizza from this place since I was a little guy and it has only gotten better over the years. The dine in has always been solid but In the old days the carry out could be hit or miss and the staff at the carry out window were often very rude but that has changed. This place is tops now. The crust is cracker-like and the topping are plentiful and tasty. Great sauce! They really do have an awesome pie. I moved away from Chicago because of my job and miss this place but never miss a chance to eat it when I visit family. If you are a tourist, try it, it is worth the drive.

As good as thin crust gets!

By TLHKNXG |

I went with my wife, daughter, dad and two cousins last week. The Italian beef pizza is INCREDIBLE! Just like having an Italian beef sandwich in every bite. Except the shredded carrot. I don't know what that's for. The sausage pizza was tasty too. Not too spicy and plenty of toppings. The crust is crispy with a little tasty burn here and there. The place is a bit quirky as you may have heard. They only accept cash and the slices can be as small as 1" by 1". A more consistent cut would be better.

Chicago Tavern Style Pizza

By Ron S |

Count me as one of the fans of Vito & Nick's. We drove over an hour for our pilgrimage to what is touted as one of the best thin crust pizzas in Chicago. I'm inclined to agree. I love a crispy, thin crust that "crackles" as you bite into it. Let's be clear, this is not "Artisan" pizza. This is Chicago tavern-style pizza which is getting harder to find these days. We ordered a large sausage, mushroom, garlic and black olives pie and enjoyed a couple of $1.50 Old Style drafts while we waited. The pizza was well done with slightly caramelized cheese and the proportion of toppings was just right although I would have enjoyed just a bit more sausage. This pizza was addicting! I couldn't stop eating it. The blend of flavors and spices were excellent as was the crispy crust which made an audible "karunch" as we bit into it. PRO TIP: Order a large even if its just the two of you. Unlike most pizza, this pizza is great a day or two later. (As a matter of fact, that "karunch" is still there when you reheat the leftovers. Just make sure you reheat on a cookie sheet it in a hot oven.) V&N's thin crust tavern pizza was worth the long drive.

Amazing pizza!

By marianne g |

We went to this pizzeria because of our youngest sons boss. He recommended him and my husband and I to go there when we picked our son up from Midway airport in Chicago. We went there for dinner. It's only minutes from the airport. He told our son that he and his uncle would go there when he was younger and had fond memories of their pizza. The business has been there for over 90 years! When you walk in the restaurant it's like going back in time! Like the late 50's to 60's era. From half paneled walls with brown shag carpet on the upper half, to aqua covered booths and stools at the bar. The bar counter top looks like it has white Formica on it when Formica first came out! The lights above the tables have different colored lights in them that gives it a party like atmosphere. Nothing fancy about this place, but their pizza was awesome! Very thin crispy crust to a great tasting sauce on top. We ordered the Vito and Nick house special pizza. It consists of cheese, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers and onions. It was so good the three of us ate all of it! This restaurant also has pasta, shrimp, chicken, ribs, sandwiches, and on Friday they have an all-you-can-eat Smelt dinner. Guy Fieri from Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives filmed an episode there too. Hard to believe in this day and age that this restaurant only accepts cash! No checks and no credit cards! I was glad I checked their website out that clearly states this or I would of had to look for an ATM near the restaurant! When in that area again we will go to this restaurant again!

Family Favorite, Never Disappoints

By Chris M |

If you want Chicago style thin crust pizza in a neighborhood setting, this is it! It's not fancy but the biggest compliment you can give: "It's family!" We were invited by our family to meet there for dinner and had our traditional Italian sausage and not-so-traditional pizza, i.e., the breakfast pizza with egg. Both were a treat.

YUM!!

By Missy M |

Started with the bolognese bites. Ravioli stuffed with meat sauce, breaded and fried. Yummy!! We did the sliced beef think crust. It was good!! We agreed that we should've added some veggies, but we'd ordered it Guy Fieri style, so it was just meat. Crust was crisp, nice crunch. We both left happy. Our waitress was a sweet, older lady who's name I didn't catch. She was a delight. There were some regulars I'm there

Worth the Drive!

By Bobaboey |

Drove about 45 minutes with the wife and kids. Ordered the traditional sausage thin crust and it was delicious! Good prices even had beer for $1.50. Only thing stopping the 5 star review was the appetizers. Pizza bread was undercooked and garlic bread over cooked. Still a great pizza!

The best pizza anywhere is now hit or miss

By JustLale |

I grew up on this pizza and was never disappointed until last night. I ordered a large pepperoni and sausage well done to go. What I found when I opened the box at home was an almost inedible mess. Just a smear of sauce, almost no pepperoni, and slightly under done. That famous V&N cracker thin crust was replaced by an uneven, soft in the middle crust. The word in the neighborhood is that the old cooks were let go and there are all new cooks there. Do anything you can to get the other cooks back.

Underwhelmed

By Jodie B |

Best pizza in town?! I don’t think so. Ours was kind of cold, cut in a ridiculous manner... and frankly, not that good. The edges were a bit burnt, and the crust was soggy, not crisp, as a thin crust should be. The staff was very friendly and the beer was cold. Nothing stood out in flavors to make it worth the trip. May or may not be back.

Great Thin Pizza!

By puma1954 |

We came here with a group of high school friends. I'm from NYC and still love my thin plain cheese pizza. I've had many "thin" pizzas, but this place makes one of the best! The cheese is just right on top of sauce that has the right amount of seasoning, on top of a crust that is perfect. The only negative is that once the restaurant gets crowded, it's difficult to talk over the noise.

Best Pizza Ever!

By Christine A |

A trip to Chicago without Nick and Vito's Pizza would barely be tolerable. Pizza from Nick and Vito's is one of the highlights of our trip. It's just so Chicago like and delicious with fair prices. If you like thin crust, square cut pizza, you must go here! Don't expect much in the way of craft beer type choices. The only thing on top is Olde Style and PBR!

Good and Authentic

By dkirsch78 |

This is a solid Chicago thin crust style pizza joint. I loved the sauce - very good seasoning in it. Don't let the atmosphere throw you off - the food is solid and worth the wait, if there is one (it gets busy). Service can be slow during the dinner rush, but they make up for it.

Worth the wait?

By Jeff K |

Arguably the best thin crust pizza in the Chicagoland area. Cash only One waitress 1 hour wait for the pizza on a Saturday afternoon lunch Cheesey garlic bread was average

Huge disappointment!

By shirleymarsh07 |

We researched the best pizza to eat in Chicago before taking a trip there last week and noticed that Vito and Nick's had been on "Diners, Drive-Ins, and, Dives"....3 times, and it had great reviews. We rode an hour to get there, and it was a great disappointment. We wanted to love their pizza so badly! Maybe I misunderstood what Chicagoans value in a tasty pizza. Our table ordered three pizzas, all with different toppings. But we were surprised that they all looked the same when they were served on the table. Looking around the restaurant at pizzas served on other tables, thinking they may have overcooked our pizzas, everybody's pizzas looked really similar: lots and lots and lots of tomato sauce, a conservative amount of toppings, very little cheese, and all overcooked with a sprinkling of burnt edges. The restaurant's atmosphere was great, and the service was great, but to be honest with you, the pizzas tasted like dry, frozen pizzas that were overcooked. I see that other customers are raving about their pizzas in other reviews. I don't understand. As I said, maybe this style of pizza is what Chicagoans are looking for. We even ordered what Guy Fieri ate there thinking we couldn't go wrong! As a Californian, I prefer lots and lots and lots of fresh ingredients and ample bubbly, melted cheese, a minimal amount of tomato sauce....better yet white garlic sauce....with the crust cooked to a light golden brown. I don't get it, and I honestly don't understand why people are raving about Vito and Nick's Pizza. I would not eat there again. Sorry Vito and Nick's....we were looking forward to a delicious pizza and did not get it.

It's still the best.

By AntanasL |

When I read people saying "it used to be the best," I wonder where they have been eating during the time in between visits. Nothing has changed!!! It still is the best thin crust pizza in Chicago. The place is almost always packed. It is really a great neighborhood blue collar pizza parlor. No silly things like alligator or cactus pizza but what they have is what you really want. And all of their choices are mouth watering. It's so hard to force yourself to stop eating there!🍕🍕🍕😊😊😊

Favorite Place in the world

By Bill E |

I'm lucky, I get to travel a bit, and I'm an admitted food dork, so I'm always investigating where the best restaurants are in whatever town I'm in. If I'm in New York, there's places I always go. London, Paris, same thing. But Vito & Nick's is, and always will be, my favorite restaurant in the world. I admit, some of it's because I grew up on the South Side of Chicago and this was our family pizza place, so yes, I'm biased. But beyond that! Their pie is the best. They've been cooking it in that oven on 85th & Pulaski for 50 years, so the authenticity's literally cooked in. And in a sea of great pizza places on the South Side; (Fox's, Roseangelo's), it tops those, which is high praise. Anyway, if you're going to Chicago and wanna see the real thing, a real Chicago style pizzeria, go out of your way and get down to Vito & Nicks. It's not fancy. The area around it is totally unassuming, but the people inside are real and friendly, and it's cheap (they only take cash), and the pizza, the thin crust variety, cut in squares, is again, the best. Obviously, according to my subjective taste, but do check it out. The place is crowded around dinner time, so be warned. But put your name in, grab some $3 beers, and enjoy. I'm reading this and I realize it may look like cheesy insider advertising. It's not. Go and check it out. You won't regret it.

Quest for best thin crust pizza

By Sherry A |

I love to try new to us restaurants while traveling. This time while going to Chicago, I googled best thin crust pizza in Chicago and came across Vito and Nick's not knowing they were once featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. It is has a hometown bar/restaurant feel. The wait staff was very attentive and nice. The pizza was very good. We had half sausage and pepperoni and half their house special. This is a CASH ONLY restaurant, so come prepared or there is an atm at the CVS next door. It is well worth coming for their pizza.

Old school neighborhood place - Cash Only

By Corey R |

As someone from out of town I can tell you that this is not where the tourist come to get their pizza while in Chicago. That however would be a mistake unless you have to have pizza served as a pie. This is a thin crust style pizza. They serve paps blue ribbon And miller high life as fast as I’ve ever seen a place sell beer. And this is not a college bar these are grown men Sitting at the bar with their cash and their beer. They all seem to know one another and anytime they order a new drink waitress just takes the money brings back their change as of this cycle has been repeated hundreds if not thousands of times. If you’re ever staying near midway airport and want to delicious pizza it’s not going to cause you to go into a food coma after one slice this would be your place to go.

Good thin crust pizza

By TheEasternShoreBoop |

We went out of our way to find this place. It is stuck in the 50's/60's. The pizza is very good. It was hard to get to this location and I don't think I would go through all that traffic again to eat here. If I was closer I would. Waitress Michelle was so so.

Saturday afternoon lunch

Quiet atmosphere pizza was hand tossed , dining room was simple inside. Staff was friendly and had plenty of parking.

Dave Portnoy isn't wrong!

By AfterActionReport.info |

Dave Portnoy has developed what appears to be a very lucrative cottage industry of eating pizza and posting his short reviews on YouTube. More importantly, he had determined that I needed to visit Vito & Nick's Pizza. When I arrived at the bar, I had been hoping to inform the bartender that the hours listed on the website "Sun (12 pm-close)" were less than helpful, but she appeared to be too exhausted, dejected, and downright haggard. Instead, I just ordered a 12" half Cheese and half Sausage pie and 16 ounces of PBR. I did ask why there was only PBR when the place is covered in Old Style branding. She replied that she had just broken the Old Style tap, which her demeanor made clear was my cue to stop asking questions. Then an all Sausage pie was delivered some 10 minutes later. A few minutes after that, she returned and slammed her fist down on the bar, which was either a manifestation of delivering the wrong order or her anger at me for not noticing before taking a bite. Either way, I magnanimously let it all go. While I don’t agree with Portnoy's misogynist views, racist rants, or anti-union stance, his take on Vito & Nick's pizza is quite accurate ("pub style . . . they should all be like this . . . 8.1 . . . if you believe in pizza . . ."). Note he is a very tough grader, and the round pizza is cut into squares (which is just plain weird).

Your frozen pizza at walmart.

It was the worse and expensive pizza i ever had. Had hardly no cheese or sauce. The worse pizza for almost 10 dollars at walmart. I recommend it to nobody not either for your dog.

Worth the drive!

By Christine1217B |

We drove 2 hours to visit this restaurant, saw that it was on DDD, so had to go. Love the atmosphere, nothing fancy just neat. If you like thin pizza with a ton of flavor, this is a must go to place!!! This is defiantly authentic, and a big variety of toppings! It was our anniversary and what a fun day trip to drink cold beer and enjoy a big ole pizza unlike any that we've had before! Will defiantly go back again and bring friends!!

A classic thin crust

By cjschreiner |

While most people want Chicago style pizza when they visit Chicago, I decided to go against the grain and try a classic thin crust pizza. This place was well worth with a good amount of toppings on it. I’d pass on the garlic cheese bread next time but then again I didn’t go to the restaurant for that.

The Real Thing

By David N |

Vito &Nick's is the real deal pizza. The crust is paper thin and crisp! It' easy to taste why it is considered the for Chicago pizza. Great neighborhood tavern that's been around for 95 years and about 50 at this location. Remember CASH ONLY!

Used to love their pizza

By Mary M |

We brought in guests from out of town after bragging about the best pizza on the south side. We both grew up in the neighborhood, moved away and when we come back we always get a pizza from there. How disappointed we were. A Sunday night at 7 pm, not busy and our pizzas were burnt! All three large! We were too embarrassed in front of our guests to send them back. We took more home than we ate there. It took away our taste for their pizzas and won't be back. When we were leaving, we looked in the kitchen and 4 young boys were making the pizzas and not the regular guys!

great pizza, good friends

By Corrie G |

This is the original! Thin pizza...premier pizza...Vito & Nick's on Pulaski. It's pizza, pizza, pizza here. Recipe AND decor remains uchanged for 50+ years...carpet on walls etc. They have added TVs to look at but it is NOT a sports bar. Families most welcomed. Food and beer priced to please. Warnings..Come prepared to wait for table, (last Saturday there was over 1 hour wait and place is not large so you will wait "shoulder to shoulder"...good time to make new friends).. bring cash, . credit/debit & checks not accepted. Pleasant staff, .lots of smiles, including the kitchen & cook staff. If you want updated decor and extensive menu don't come. Could use dessert menu.

Pizza Done Right

By Maria C |

It really doesn't get any better than this!! Come to the southwest side of the city for the best thin crust pizza around. It looks like you are entering someone's basement from the 1970's; but what it lacks in updated decor, it more than makes up for in good, super reasonably-priced food. So grab a table, order a pitcher of beer on tap, and savor the simple deliciousness of pizza done right. Cash only, my friend.

Disappointed

By pickytravel0r |

Have eaten here many times and been satisifed with our pizza. However yesterday we took out of town guest who had seen Vito and NICks featured on tv. Our pizza was over cooked, causing the crust to be like cardboard instead of cracker, like it usually is. We had ordered two large and ate maybe half on each pan. Waitress took them away without a second glance or question as to why we did not want it wrapped. All in all a disappointing experience, especially since we and driven about 20 miles to eat there.

A Must on every Chicago trip

By Coachf72 |

This is the pizza place where my grandpa used to stop everyday when he got off work for an Old Style on tap. This is where my dad ate pizza when he was a kid. This is where I go every time I'm in Chicago and now this is where my kids go when they are in town. Love the pizza. Love the staff. Love the different colored lights. And where else can you get an Old Style on tap for $1.50 these days. Nowhere but here!! Classic south side neighborhood spot. Cash only. Order your pizza and share a salad, it's pretty big.

Satisfying lunch

By AKzoom |

Eat where locals dine who keep this place a neighborhood classic. Cheese & sausage pizza was excellent. I didn't come for the décor, I came for great flavor and wasn't disappointed. Thin crust allows us to savor a great sauce and cheese flavor.

Foodgasm!!!

By Foodaholic Jackson |

Yes, foodgasm!!! The pizza was so good, it was like having an orgasm in my mouth, hence, "foodgasm"!!! Nice, crispy crust, flavorful stout souce, and the toppings were fantastic!!! I also love the old school ambience.

By Prfct_Fan_Food_Srvc |

We heard about this place from Triple D (Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives) and took a trip to try their pizza. Known for their thin crust pies, we ordered a large with onions and green peppers. The guys @ Triple D were right on target with this one. The crust was thin and crunchy. Love that pie! Great sauce rich with flavor. Prompt and timely service. They have a vintage decor and RC cola. You gotta give it a shot!!

OLD SCHOOL CHICAGO PLACE TO BE!

By Lila A |

Chicago has a TON of places to go and eat. What to speak of Chicago Style pizza, the choices that are out there, without question, are endless. Yet, when you want to feel like your visiting an old style Chicago Pizzeria, then you MUST visit Vito and Nick's. Great space, Great Service, Great Prices and MOST of all GREAT Pizza. Words can only say so much and actions speak louder then words. So... Please take action and go and try Vito and Nick's pizza or anything on the menu for that matter I promise you will not be disappointed.

Best thin crust pizza

By thg812 |

Vito & Nicks has been doing the same thing for a long time, making excellent thin crust pizza. Nobody ever mentions the atmosphere, customer service, the odd white t shirt guys making the pizzas or the awesome carpet on the walls....just the pizza. So if you want some of the fluff, go somewhere else. But, no doubt, it is the best "thin" crust pizza in the city. Also, the area is not bad, it has changed some...stop being so soft.

Thin crust yum

Great Pizza, cold beer friendly server. Great way to end our weekend in Chicago! Highly recommend. We had sliced beef with hot peppers that was out of this world.

Best thin crust pizza in Chicago! CASH ONLY!

By Mickie T |

If you like thin crust pizza, this is the place for you! Order it well done and your crust will be extra crispy and the cheese lightly browned. They make their own sausage and I think it's awesome. They've been here forever and not much has changed over the years but that's the best part of this place! Worth the drive and it took us 40 minutes to get here. Be aware that they accept cash only.

This place it an icon

By Twister7096 |

You know reading through the reviews, there are all types of people who visit this place. Whether you stumble across it on your own accord or get motivated after watching a segment on Triple D. The one thing you can take away from this place is, that they do things there own way and without fear of negativity similar to that in these reviews. Sure the decore could use some updates but doing so would take away from what this place is and represents. Stop in grab a pizza and beer or watch the game. They will make you feel like family.

Simply the best

By 14ll41 |

Easily the best pizza I've ever had... Thick, thin, New York, St. Louis style... Nothing comes close. Thin crispy crust, perfectly balanced sauce cheese ratio.

Great Pizza and I'm a Chicagoan!!!!

By Cecil W. |

IDK about some of the reviews about service but that was awesome too!!! And this is coming from a snobby north sider. The pizza is very thin and cut into extra small squares like pieces of crackers. SIMPLY AMAZING!!! Fresh ingredients and tasty sauce. They have two sizes, a 12 inch small and a 14 inch large. Might as well just get the large because this is the place to over indulge in. Definitely will be coming back here with more friends and family!!!!!

Pizza, as good as it gets

By larrycollins3 |

I went for pizza because I had heard so much about the place. The pizza that we ordered was perfectly cooked. The crust was crisp and the sauce was tasty. I would certainly go back again.

Still as awesome as ever

By Anti-Pa |

This place still maintains the same high level of quality food. The pizza is simply amazing, very thin crisp crust. The sauce and cheeses used are awesome. This place is a must visit if you are in Chicago. The pasta is very good too but it is the pizza that is what must be tasted.

Good pizza, worth the visit

Classic Chicago tavern with great pizza. Went for dinner and had the Italian beef pizza and it was tasty. Fried mushrooms good as well. If near Midway Airport worth carving out time to go.

FANTASTIC! AMAZING thin crust pizza!

By Gabrielle S |

I will for sure be here again! If this was downtown I would go everytime I visit Chicago! We wanted pizza and hate deep dish. All the pizza spits downtown were too "Chicago" and touristy traps! So many places say "thin" but all they mean by that is not deep dish! Not here! This is real deal, thin cracker like pizza! The sausage is SO fresh and flavorful. We saw this on The Food channel and they hit it on the head! Great small little pizzeria!

Worth the drive!

By JOHN C B |

I love Vito and Nicks. The pizza is thin which is different than most Chicagoland pies and the Italian Beef is a complete local flavor that everyone should try. So good that it might make a puppy pull a piano to get to a second slice. Been three time counting the days to the next. If you sit at the bar you can see the preparation shop. Flying paddles as featured on Triple D.

Nice find

By Mr_Review |

Was just there last week visiting from Florida. I went with a friend because he saw the place on Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives. I wanted to go to the traditional place that starts with G, but I've been there plenty of times so I figured I'd try something new. We ordered the sausage and pepperoni thin crust pizza and it was awesome. Initially I was thinking, ok it's just pizza. I realized how good it was by the fact that I couldn't stop eating. My only critique is that the place needs some TLC on the remodeling side, but they may do it for the historical appeal. (I hope) Either way, I would recommend it.

Real Chicago atmosphere

By Richard P |

I originally saw this place on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives show. So when I went to visit a friend in Chicago in February, we just had to check it out. The atmosphere was friendly; waitresses were nice and made suggestions. We went during the day, so hard core locals were the main patrons. Some nice folks. Nothing fancy as far as the furnishings, but the pizza was very, very good. I would go back.

Yummy pizza

If you like thin crust pizza, you'll love this pizza. Crust is nice and thin and crispy. It's a cozy little place with décor from the 70's

Best Thin Crust Pizza in Chicago

By warch1 |

This has been a Chicago institution for decades. The best thin crust pizza ever! The dining room is pretty average but the food/pizza is amazing to say the least. They have been featured on The Food Show Network, Diners, Drive-ins & Dives and Food Paradise. Nationally known but still a local kinda place.

Where’s The Meat?

By FhayzeB |

Man this pizza used to be the best on the southwest side of chicago. I almost could not tell there was sausage and mushrooms on the pizza! I was incredibly disappointed. Pizza is a pedestrian dish by nature, but when I eat what I know I shouldn’t, at least I want to taste it. Tomato sauce and onions was not what I expected.

Very Delicious Pizza and Tremendous Service

By BillBixby219 |

I visited on a Saturday evening, roughly 630pm in mid February. As expected, very crowded. I sat at the bar and grabbed a seat almost immediately, which was preferred because the cold Old Style drafts kept flowing and I had a great view of the TV for when the Hawks puck dropped a little later in the evening. I ordered a MED sausage, green pepper and giardiniera on the side. I have to admit, very very good. Tremendous sauce, flavorful toppings, everything you would expect from the ratings. One downfall, although the crust was cracker-thin, it was not as crispy as I would have hoped. I saw the pizza come out of the oven so it wasn't an issue of it sitting for too long, it just wasn't that crispy. This is the reason for a 4 star ranking and my slight disagreement with some of the rankings I have read of the best in Chicago. However, I want to add that in some reviews I have read of poor service. My bartender Ann Marie was an absolute jewel. Nice, attentive, kept my beer full and cold, she even ordered cheesesticks and lemonades for a father who had his two small children with him who were getting quite hungry with the extended wait. I can say that the service was every bit of a 5 star rating and she was awesome. Ann Marie also recommended a beef for the road. I didn't wait until the next day to dig into the fries that were deep friend and delicious. The beef the next day was amazing with all the trimmings (hot and sweet peppers, gravy and red sauce). Very, Very good I just don't want to say that it is the best in the City. Absolutely loved the south side working class ambiance, my kind of people. Make a trip and dine in if you haven't done so already.

Pizza on a Cracker!

By Robert L |

An out of town friend suggested that we go to this over 100-yr Pizza establishment on the far south side during a recent visit. I was game and ready to try this icon restaurant. The vibe was definitely neighborhoody and casual. The server was welcoming, prompt and helpful. The pizza was interesting... Extremely thing crust Cheese, Sausage & Onion and it came out a bit on the overdone/burnt side. (I am not sure if this is the way it is supposed to be because of the extremely thin crust?) But for my taste the pizza could have used a more generous portion of Sauce-Cheese-Sausage. There was little flavor but the crust was an interesting texture that reminded me of Saltine Crackers. Interesting to try if you are in the area but if you are more downtown I'd still opt for Girodanos, Ginos East, Lou Malnati's or Home Run Inn.

Chicago's best thin crust pizza?

By Taylor B |

I'm a creature of habit. I favor Oberweis' skim milk, White Castle's original sliders, Tropicana's 50-calorie orange juice with some pulp, veal scallopini from Gepperth's Meat Market, Joe Gambino's haircuts, Oreo cookies and Bella Luna's thin crust pizza with lots of extra sausage. My wife and I spent several years sampling and evaluating pizza on Chicago's Gold Coast before settling on Bella Luna. So when I read a recent article in the Chicago Tribune that rated Vito and Nick's pizza as the best in Chicago...well, we wanted to see for ourselves. South Side friends had recommended Vito and Nick's at 8433 South Pulaski Road several months ago and we tried it out. Yes, we agreed, it is exceptionally good pizza. But better than Bella Luna? Vito and Nick's is a family-owned business that opened in 1923 and whose roots originated in Sicily. Very traditional, they don't take credit cards, cash only, and they don't deliver, pickup or dine-in only. That's why the place is always so crowded. I must admit that fresh out of the oven is the best way to enjoy pizza. So we showed up for dinner. We prefer thin crust to deep dish or stuffed or pan and Vito and Nick's original Sicilian-style version is hard to beat, paper-thin crust, crispy, carefully seasoned Italian sausage that is ground in-house daily, pure cheese and high-quality tomato sauce that is applied generously with gusto. If it isn't the best pizza in Chicago, it has to rank among the top five. Consistency is what separates good pizza from great pizza, producing 4-star pizza time after time, order after order. Bella Luna does that for us. Obviously, with its longer track record, Vito and Nick's has been doing the same thing for its devoted customers for an even longer period of time. Hey, the spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread ain't bad, either.

Still delicious

In town visiting family, my sister and I went to Nick and Vito's -- we haven't been here together in about 20 years. New tables and chairs, but the same ambiance. Busy on a Sunday early evening. Ordered a large sausage pizza and a couple Old Styles on tap. My favorite pizza in all of Chicagoland.

Best thin crust pizza in the world.

Order more pizza than you can eat as it will be even better the next day for breakfast. Vito and Nicks is the best.

The best pizza in Chicago

By Flyby0161 |

Old school excellence. This place has weathered time as it’s consistently great. The pizza is cooked well done to give the thin crust extra crunch. Perfect ingredients, outstanding food - it’s busy, that’s what you would expect for great food.

Great Pizza but come with some patience and good company

By Lauren5050 |

After reading about this place on Yahoo News for the best thin crust pizza, we decided to take a drive out for New Year’s Eve. We ordered a large (14”) House Special, large cheese and sausage, small (12”) cheese, sausage and mushroom, along with 5 bottled beers and a Coke. The bill was $73+ - not bad. Be sure to bring CASH, they do not accept credit cards. Our server was prompt, nice and efficient. We did have to wait a bit for our pizza and one came out first, which was a little odd, but we expected on New Year’s Eve, it may be busy so we came with patience. The pizza crust is very thin with a wonderful, very tasty pizza sauce and simply amazing tasting Italian Sausage. The sauce and sausage are the highlights. My friend and I thought the crust was a bit “cardboard-y” in the middle but the outside was wonderfully crispy… so I think if it had a few more minutes in the oven, the whole thing would’ve been been perfect. Our husbands both thought the crust was good on their pizzas, so I think it was just ours. The beers came to $2.75 each, a good deal in a bar these days, otherwise it’s PBR or Old Style on tap for a pitcher and I wasn’t quite up for that. I did read reviews on the place prior to going, and there were some complaints about the décor. I really don’t get the complaints? I guess maybe I’m a little old, grew up in the 60’s and 70’s so I would describe the décor as “retro”. It gave me the feel of a bar or supper club up in the northwoods of Wisconsin or Michigan’s U.P. and I just love that! So I suppose if you care more about the atmosphere of where you're eating, and retro's not your thing, then I guess you should stick with a pizza place downtown or something, but you'll be missing some good pizza! The kitchen where they make the pizzas is right there by the entry door, you can see exactly what they’re doing as they’re making the pizzas. As we were standing by the door zipping our coats up to leave, the guy making pizzas looked up and acknowledged us smiling, and said "have a nice evening". I thought that was real nice. I’d come here again for pizza and would recommend it to anyone. It’s just pretty far from where we live but it was a nice night out for pizza and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Two thumbs up!

Pizza Fantastic!

By Amy K |

So visiting our son in Chicago, we wanted a good pizza and a super casual environment- we tried Vito and Nick's for the first time last night. It's a thin crust pizza and all I can say is WOW!!!!! Flavor town! The sauce is so good, and we had sausage and pepperoni- it was the best I have ever had! Truth, I am not a fan of sausage on pizza, but theirs has something different in the seasoning it is so so good, you probably won't leave any for leftovers (we didn't). Great price, truly friendly service, just a truly great pizza night!

No Better Pizza in all Chicago

By Eric v |

You hear that Chicago is famous for its deep dish pizza. This certainly is true. There are a lot of good deep dish pizza restaurants in Chicago. But if pizza is one of your basic food groups, none of the deep dishes comes close to the thin crust pizza at Vito and Nicks. Seriously. Let's be clear. This is no fancy restaurant. Nor it it some corporate pizza chain. This is just a classic pizza joint where you can get the best pizza in all Chicago for a very reasonable price. It also has Old Style on tap. Mike drop.

Best thin crust pizza in Chicago!

By Chris D |

I've been going to Vito and Nick's since I was 10 years old and not much has changed. This is real Chicago pizza. The decor will make you feel like your in your grandmother's Southside basement. This pizza us worth the trip.

Burnt every time i order.

By derrick G |

I know they're racist but I still gave em a try and i have to agree that there is no other place in Chicago that is as in your face racist as Vito and Nick's. The pizza was burnt on more than one occasion and they don't do anything to remedy any issues because they don't have to, being cash only but I'll stick to Vito and nick 2. Where I get great treatment, good pizza and better service.

Pizza consumer in mass quantities.

Pizza was awesome couldn't eat it fast enough and when it was gone I wanted more so I ordered a second pie for the road!

Great, very thin pizza, but cash only

By Terryl D |

If you like thin pizza, you can't get it any thinner than this. First, visit we had their World Pizza and divided the pizza in half for individual tastes. Crumbly sausage was bester than most sausage. It has the feel of an old, local restaurant…almost VFW feel. We had a great time sitting at the bar and talking with the bartender. The second time the bar was packed. We were surprised to learn that was cash only and happy we had enough cash on hand. Second time, we got separate small pizzas, one with olive oil instead of sauce. We had plenty to take home. We actually froze some and when rewarmed it was almost as good as out of their oven. Both times we had their great fried zucchini as an appetizer. Both times were Saturday afternoons and the place was hopping.

Best damn pizza in Chicago!

By Cavin A |

Walked in and didn't know what to expect. I was greeted by Mary who is a bartender. She took my order and I waited patiently. You may have to wait for a while if it's on a Saturday during a cubs game. But totally worth the wait. I ordered a small sausage, pepperoni, black olives, and mushroom pizza. It was so good!!! I would come Back!

Best Sausage Pizza EVER!!

By Amandak0219 |

We got a sausage pizza and a pepperoni pizza. The pepperoni pizza was good, but the sausage pizza was amazing. Super thin crispy crust, perfectly tangy sauce and flavorful sausage made this pizza so good. And their tap beer is CHEAP!! Great place for pizza, will definitely go back.

Great as usual.....with a few ideas.

By gariupamg |

Very good pizza on every visit including this weekend. Great attentive staff. Cozy old school atmosphere. Wonderful history. Couple things for bosses to check into. Whoever was manning the deep fryer when I visited didnt leave the fried zucchini in long enough.....were delivered mushy and cold in the center. Quite certain this was an isolated event. Maybe a new employee? The men's restroom really needs a complete remodel. Terribly small- quite dirty/falling apart/very bad. As customers and kitchen staff use the same facility.....something drastic needs to be done. For as long as th restaurant has been there and as popular as it is.....with future longevity pretty certain.....this is an investment that needs to happen.

Pizza good but the atmosphere was definitely lacking!!

By kerker123 |

Luckily the day we went wasn't a 90 degree day, since the air conditioner wasn't working. The waitress said it had been out for 1 1/2 weeks!! Totally unacceptable. We will not be returning!! Gave it a 3 only because of the pizza.

First and Last

By bpdogs |

I know one visit can't base a restaurant on. A kitchen can have a bad day/night. However, there is no excuse to serve a pizza with burned and brown cheese. They overcooked it and all the cheese was burnt. How do you possible serve this? Apologize and tell us they are cooking another. My friend didn't want to send it back so we ate it. I thought the pepperonis were good but his beef tasted bland. The sauce was average and the crust was average, The best was all you can drink RC cola and friendly service. Never again.

Good place went bad

Don't Make Our Tourist Mistake!

By WanderingToesTiger |

My husband and I read about Vito and Nick's on several foodie websites, so we placed it on our Chicago itinerary for a recent long weekend trip. We were so excited! Since the train did not come close to Vito and Nick's we opted to pay around $40 ($20 each way) for an Uber from the River North area down to Vito and Nick's neighborhood. Once we got there, we sat down and ordered. As we looked around, we realized that no one else in the restaurant had any food on their tables. The bartender (a very loud man who appeared to be in management) complained about the servers and/or hostess calling in sick...for the entire 1.5 hours that we were there. Once we got our food, it was not worth eating...and I LOVE pizza...especially super thin crust! The pictures I saw online drew me in, but the taste left me so disappointed. I didn't even eat my half of the pizza, and that says a lot because I will eat almost any pizza. Don't make the same tourist mistake we did by reading great things online about this place. It's either lost its edge or someone out there is spreading lies on the Internet! I've traveled across 4 continents and eaten at (and reviewed!) a ton of restaurants, hotels, and things to do. I would love to continue to share my knowledge about restaurants, things to do, and hotels with you as I travel to new places. Be sure to follow me on Trip Advisor to get my latest updates! Enjoy the REAL Chicago-style pizza

By dmbia |

Vito and Nick's serves tavern-style pizza, which has a thin, cracker-like crust cut into small squares rather than slices. While people outside Chicago know the city for deep-dish pizza, Chicagoans most often prefer this thin and extremely crispy crust. The tavern-style here is probably the best in the city, and it's worth a trip down to south Pulaski to enjoy it. The staff is friendly without being intrusive. While it's a bit on the pricey side, it is a very nice place for a meal. Be sure to bring cash. They don't take cards, and the nearest ATMs are about a quarter mile away.

Fantastic Thin Crust Pizza

By jessengee |

After having their frozen pizzas for couple of years, my family wanted to try the "real deal" straight from the oven, so off we went to this true neighborhood pizzaria. We were not disappointed; which we should have known because the frozen pizzas are also fantastic. We had both a sausage and cheese pizza and both were great. The restaurant was quite full, even on an early Sunday afternoon. The staff was friendly and helpful. Make sure you bring CASH, because that is the only way to pay.

Great Pizza

By Ninnie |

Pizza is alway great. Price is good and service is fine. We go here at least once a month and rate their pizza as the best in the local area.

Awesome Pizza

By Rick188 |

The family and I flew into Midway and the first place we visited was Vito and Nick's. It was a great experience all around. The atmosphere, the pizza, the service and Old Style. I saw a tv show listing them as a place to visit and we wanted to see if these tv shows are true to their word. It was all that. The thin pizza is the best.

Great thing crust pizza

By AndyO49 |

We were in the Loop so we decided to make the trek down to Tinley Park. I had wanted to go here for a while. It is a bar but family friendly. We showed up at about 3:30 on a Saturday. We had no problem getting a table. Later on the wait can get to be 1 hour to sit and another hour to get your pizza. I'm not into that so getting there early was good for us. The service was pretty good. We didn't wait to long for our waitress to take our order. Drinks came pretty quickly and my wife got a refill on her diet cola without a hassle. We ordered a cheese pizza and one of their specials. The cheese came out about 10 minutes before the special. The only problem with that was we had to control ourselves lest we be full when the other pizza came. The crust was crispy. The cheese pizza had a slightly different taste to it than other cheese pizzas I've eaten. I couldn't figure out what it was but it sure was tasty! The special pizza had sausage, mushrooms, green peppers and onions. It was delicious. We ate as much as we could and took the rest home. It is cash only but that's not a problem. The only downside for us is the 1 hour drive without traffic and the long wait times during peak hours. So, if we are close to there in the afternoon we will certainly go back.

Tip from triple D

By BigSteveHD |

Started with questionable service but they pulled through. We ordered two smalls and both were excellent and big. I think they take a Chicago style small and roll it into a thin crust. I would return, good place

The best THIN CRUST in Chicagoland!

By emailsynn |

Love the sausage they make home made and have never been disappointed with any of the food. The guys in the see-thru kitchen are comedians, and you can catch them throwing the wood spatula across the room to each other. They yell your name 'hello' when you come in to pick up your order and a big 'thank you' when you leave a tip. The restaurant has left me not as enthusiastic. The service has been ok at times. This is very old-school, from the tables and chairs, to the linoleum floors, to CASH ONLY so be prepared! So I just stick to taking my order home and eating it comfortably. But the food here has kept me coming back for years and I will, for sure, be coming back for years to come!

Classic thin crust

By C F |

Restaurant hasn't changed in 40 years. Beer was cold, appetizer sampler was okay, but we came for the pizza and left disappointed. Had been looking forward to a visit to this Chicago classic pizzeria, but was disappointed when our pizza arrived well done.

We agree with The Prez, Dave Portney!

We picked this place after watching Dave Portney’s One Bite Pizza Review. This did not disappoint! The pizza is excellent!

Thin crust rules at Vito and Nick’s

By Terry L |

This old school pizza spot has it all going on - 4 TVs with college basketball games playing (Don’t Touch), turquoise seats at the bar, carpeting on the ceiling and Christmas lights over the bar - a perfect ambience for wonderful thin crust pizza. They passed my first test - they had anchovies. Delicious hot out of the oven. The staff is terrific - keeping all the customers, regulars and newbies happy. Many special pizzas to look forward to at future visits. Easy parking in their exclusive lot.

Good, but not legendary by any stretch

By Michael U |

With roots in Sicily, the story of Vito & Nick’s Pizzeria starts around 1923, first a tavern and then another from Vito Barraco before the addition of Pizza when son Nick joined the business after being discharged from the US Air Force. Starting as thick squares, but eventually developing the thin Dough that typifies Chicago’s signature “Tavern Style,” it is currently at 84th and Pulaski that guests can experience what many consider to be one of Chi-town’s best Pies – a rumor undoubtedly benefitted from Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives. At this point a South Side institution, and still operating at limited capacity amidst COVID-19, guests visiting Vito & Nick’s can expect brusque greetings and cash-only sales, Nick Barraco’s 1965 quote that "We will never deliver, if they want a truly great pizza, they will come in for it" still standing today. Known for using housemade Italian Sausage and Giardiniera, the latter with Italian Beef something of a signature, it was instead from a middle-age waitress who smelled of cigarettes that an $18.25 “Half Sausage/Half Cheese” was served, a slightly charred edge and plenty of Herbs enjoyable though the Crust was neither as thin or crackling as that of Pat’s on North Lincoln.

Best thin crust pizza in Chicago?

By Taylor B |

I asked a friend, a longtime resident of the south suburbs, to recommend the best pizza he has ever had. "Vito and Nick's," he said without hesitation. "Never heard of it," I said. "Trust me, you'll love it," he responded. So I asked some other south suburban acquaintances if they were aware of Vito and Nick's. "The best thin-crust pizza I've ever had," one said. Vito and Nick's has been a family-owned business at 8433 South Pulaski Road in southwest Chicago since 1932 so they must be doing something right. And they aren't a big secret. Guy Fieri, the host of cable TV's "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives," stopped by to praise the restaurant. And it was given favorable reviews on Catherine De Orio's Check, Please! show on Chicago public television's WTTW. It's a cash only, no delivery operation that has earned a reputation for "the best thin-crust pizza" in Chicago by its loyal followers. It reminds of a 1950s neighborhood sports bar, nothing fancy. "It's kind of dumpy, not well appointed," one critic said. "But the food is to die for." The menu is limited. So are the beer selections. But nobody is trying to fool anyone. "It's all about the thin-crust pizza," is Vito and Nick's motto. Try the sausage pizza but always ask for extra, extra sausage. The House Special is mushroom, onion, green peppers and sausage. But I'm not big on toppings, just sausage. Spaghetti or meat ravioli with garlic bread is another option. Or take home a sandwich or two for later--beef, sausage, combo, broiled chicken, brat, hamburger or cheeseburger. Or try a specialty sandwich like The Big Nicky (8 ounces of sausage on pizza bread) or the V & N steak sandwich (8 ounces of steak served on garlic bread with lettuce, tomato and onion). Chicago prides itself on great pizza, thin-crust or deep dish, and Vito and Nick's has been producing one of the best pizzas for over 80 years. How many other pizza parlors can make that claim?
