Cougars prowling the Cougar Room

By ofeelia9 |

My friend rented the Cougar Room (so reasonable!!!) from the *amazing* Brooke last weekend for her 40th birthday. Everything about it was perfect. The food, drinks, service, privacy. We felt like super high class broads. I have loved Vitos for a long time and can highly recommend it to anyone who wants a dark, quiet, classy place to hang out on First Hill!

Great Date Night

By Claudine S |

With our kids off on an adventure of their own, my husband and I had our first date night in several months. After a wonderful day playing around the Sound, we made a trip to Vito's for a nice meal. We were lucky enough to land there the night they were celebrating Halloween.Sitting at the bar, our bartender/waiter (a gentleman dressed as a hip 70's dude with jeans, jean jacket, bare chest and styling afro) was attentive and provided some great drinks. For starters we ordered the Vongole: clams, sausage and various veggies in an amazing broth. This was followed by the Penne Bolognese and the Famous Cannelloni. My husband enjoyed his Bolognese but agreed that it was nothing compared to the Cannelloni. It was to die for. After the first bite, I knew we'd be making the trip from Portland to Seattle again for this meal. Overall, I'm glad we wrestled with crazy Saturday night traffic in the rain for this meal. The atmosphere, food and unique Halloween experience made this an evening I won't soon forget.

Good food, retro atmosphere

By keithnewhook |

Had an early dinner here. Shared a pizza as an appetizer, which was excellent. Had the spaghetti as the entire which was also very good. Old 70s style lounge atmosphere which was pretty cool. Live piano music later that night. Large bar in the centre which tended to attract a lot of people while the tables surrounded each side.

Phenomenal Experience

By Eleanor C |

This is my third visit to Virginia Mason in the last 5 years and we discovered Vito’s on a recommendation from the nearby hotel staff. Phenomenal every time! My stays are always 2 evenings and I wind up eating here both evenings every visit so I can order the filet mignon and still explore the rest of the menu without exploding. Cheese platter paired with wine was fantastic. Our waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable with recommendations and extremely attentive. The food was even better. The low light ambiance is perfect and this latest trip I treated my father to a belated Father’s Day dinner. They were out of one of the sampler taster selections and they gave us the other 2 samples on the house because they were out of the 3rd - wonderful touch and service to the end of our evening. The cocktails I always order off menu and the bartender has nailed the custom cocktail with my preferences every time. Thank you!!! Can’t wait for my next surgery!

night out before surgery at near by hospital

By Bruce B |

Found Vito's down the street from Virginia Mason Hospital which I was to have surgery at and was staying at the Inn at Virginia Mason. The food was very good and they did have half portions. Very dark inside which makes it hard to read the menu.

A step back in Time

By alrog4 |

When you walk in the door of Vito's, you are travelling to a different time and place. This is an Era that the rest of Seattle has left behind. It has a great east coast feel. Live music, good food. The food is straightforward American Italian from thirty or forty years ago. Great, local suppliers. The Macrina bread is heaven. Spaghetti and Meatballs were a great classic. Gelato was outstanding.

A lasagna to live for.

By Leatherneck6693 |

A cozy restaurant a brisk walk away from the Paramount theater for a before-show meal. The atmosphere is inviting and the live jazz piano provided a relaxing soundtrack for dinner. Not the place for quiet conversations given the sound level and you may need the flashlight app on your phone to read the menu since the ambient lighting is very dim and a single flickering candle on the table is the only real source of useful light. Service was reasonably efficient if not very personal. But let's get to the food. Vito's has a pretty thin menu compared to your average Italian restaurant but everyone will find something they like. Salad was excellent and the wine was perfect (again a pretty short wine list). We ordered the lasagna - after all, the server and the menu said it was "famous" - and its fame ha now spread to our little town south of Tacoma because it was incredible. While in the service we were stationed in Naples for 3 years and in all that time in Italy i never tasted a lasagna better than Vito's. The pasta could be cut with my fork and the sauce? "Mamma mia!" as the TV Italians say. Perfect consistency, thick enough without lumps and not the watery mess you sometimes get. It had a tang and a taste that was transforming. Somehow it managed not to be heavy either so that a "very" hot plate of lasagna went down to the last bite without our feeling stuffed. The cannoli was pretty crunchy and had to be stabbed with the fork to break it into bite-size pieces but it was the lasagna that made this evening. Complimenti allo chef!

FUN! Like stepping back in time!

What a fun place. We were sent there for dinner by the folks at the Sorrento. Live entertainment, great drinks, friendly staff and The COUGAR ROOM! such a cool place!

Good food, live music

By Alan B |

I went to Vito's on the recommendation of the Navigator (concierge) at the Renaissance Seattle. I wanted someplace close, with live music. He said to be prepared for late-1960's ambiance. Coming from the NY area, I've seen the old-style decor before. I sat at the bar and had a house salad (large, fresh and the grapes were a nice, sweet touch). Then I had a 1/2 portion of Spaghetti Bolognese, which was really good (a little spicy and beef, veal, pork, the way it's supposed to be). At 9pm (on a Friday) a band played a mix of jazz and funk and it was a very cool vibe. If you're looking to get away from the downtown scene, Vito's is a good choice. The food is reasonably priced, not pretentious and tasty.

Mediocre Italian

By MRolfe909 |

Stopped for an early dinner, hoping to get some basic, authentic Italian food. The shrimp and polenta appetizer was tasty and unique. Our entrees were average at best. The Chicken Parm was bland and the pasta side was too oily and had way too much garlic. A simple marinara sauce would have been better. The tiramisu for dessert was great! Overall, expected the entree's to be a little better, but the service was great and the atmosphere was certainly "old school" and kind of cool.

By Charles W |

we went for dinner its a small place very old world style, with piano player, nice vibes and great lasagna.

Surprised and impressed!

By Krisinseattle |

We'd been to Vito's about 25 years ago and had written it off as an old Italian mafia bar. It's had a new life and new menu, and was quite good despite still being dark and ambient. The piano player was fabulous and came by for suggestions. We ordered the chicken Marsala, Mushroom fettuccini and spaghetti bolognese plus half salads. Wonderful food and good service! Give it a try!!

Such a fun evening

By kef1545 |

This is a fun jazz bar with live music and great Italian food. Make sure to get reservations for nights with live music, otherwise you can sit at the bar or stand. The staff was very friendly and the bartender made amazing drinks. I would definitely go back here if I'm ever in Seattle again.

Amazing

By vroselaar |

Just had a drink, but what an amazing atmosphere. And look at that well stocked bar. Loved the great service.

Great find.

By Cheryl C |

What a relief to find an ordinary restaurant.... Good food, nice atmosphere, good music. The overly hip and precious food scene in Seattle gets old after awhile- this is a great antidote.

great atmosphere

By Leslie H |

I enjoyed a nice glass of wine and some live music. Great spot to relax after a day of travel.

Good old time place

By red1990 |

My wife and I had dinner here as we told the food was good and they had a piano player. It was a wonderful dinner and evening and we enjoyed the piano player. The restaurant as been there since the 50’s.

21+ only? Thanks a lot

By Jennifer K |

It would be nice if they stated ANYWHERE on their website, trip advisor, menu, etc that you can only eat dinner there if you're over 21. Look, I get laws with bars and eating areas but it kinda sucked that my family (including 11 and 8 yr old) walked 8 blocks UPHILL just to go here. Guy was very apologetic and recommended another spot 2 blocks away-- Primo. Well, they only served pizza and we wanted Italian. Epic fail not once but twice :(

Great old school Italian restaurant.

By T G |

We have walked by a number of times and decided to give it a try. Service and food were great. Atmosphere is really interesting -- kind of like ab Italian restaurant from the 50's. Great bar!

Great food & service

By SportsMom_11 |

The menu is classic wholesome Italian. The service was excellent and atmosphere very old school and Frank Sinatra rat pack feeling. Loved the history of the establishment. The food was above average. We will definitely return.

Fabulous food and prices

By Treehugger14625 |

I expected a downtown restaurant within walking distance from hotels to be very expensive. But, it's kind of tucked away from the high traffic areas. I had farfalle with sausage and prawns in a spicy sauce and it was great, though i should have gotten a half order. We also had garlic bread and antipasto which was very nice. As other reviewers have noted, it is dark. Service was great and it got a little noisy before we left and there was a faint unpleasant odor in the restaurant. Prices were really good.

Living it up like the rat pack! in Seattle!

By Mylez Edward |

last year, we stopped into Vito's for a drink, and they folks were so friendly and wonderful and told us all about their entertainment and Saturday nights. So, this year, we planned ahead made a Sat night reservation! Red velvet ceilings, a group called the Tarantella's were so much fun playing the traditional Italian folks music and then, a FANTASTIC live singer and band. This guy sounded like Tom Jones and Tony Bennet's love child, and had all the swagger. The band was great! Dinner was very good and reasonably priced. We just love the atmosphere, and style. This time, the service acceptable, but wasn't as great or friendly as our last visit, and I am thinking the drink mixers are questionable, so next time I will stick to drinking something straight and neat. They could certainly use some ventilation, but it wasn't horribly warm or uncomfortable. I say, dress the part, go have a great time and enjoy a style long gone from the American landscape.

Disgusting and racist staff.

By Mark |

Turned up at 9 pm with business colleagues, after one of my associates was struggling to open the app to show proof of vaccination, as they were from abroad. Staff was very unhelpful and refused us to let us use the WiFi to open the app. Eventually with our own hotspot we showed all vaccine carts which they eventually did. At the table, ordered a bottle of wine, the waitress then refused the colleague with the app problem alcohol as she said she was intoxicated. Our colleague had a strong Scottish accent and had not been drinking. Asked to see manager, she arrived and just escalated the situation, stating, she cannot overturn her staffs assessment, without even speaking to us first. Our colleague was utterly embarrassed and we left. The attitude from waitress and manager was utterly disgusting, and so disrespectful. Terrible terrible place.

Nice Vibe, Average Food

By Mario0007 |

We were staying nearby at the Sorrento Hotel and saw Vito's on the way there. It didn't seem like much from the outside but the reviews online made it sound pretty cool as if it was some hip joint from the days of the Rat Pack.... so we decided to give it a shot. It was a Wednesday evening around 7 when we arrived and the place was fairly empty. A sign read 'live music tonight' but it clearly hadn't started yet. It's dark inside, everything appeared to be black. We sat at the bar and ordered a glass of wine to get started. Not an impressive wine list to speak of but to be fair I have to say I'm a bit surprised how many restaurants in Seattle feature barely more than 3 or 4 local red wines. There are so many great wines in the region I would've expected a serious list at every bar/restaurant. But I digress..... Sitting at the bar we were served by a very friendly bartender. I ordered the Farfalle Diavolo which was decent. Not authentic though. It does have a good amount of heat and more than a touch of cream so it was a bit rich and sweet. My friend got the spaghetti and meatballs and thought it was ok and again not quite authentic. He said he could taste added sugar in the sauce (adding sugar to marinara should never be necessary!) The place really started to pickup by 8 and as we were leaving around 9 the live music started. A female singer-songwriter had begun to play and the place took on a whole new vibe. It would've been cool to hang out longer and enjoy the music but we were exhausted. I would definitely come back for drinks, not sure about dinner though.

Outstanding food, music and atmosphere!

By MarcReview |

Very good Italian food with live music most nights with a very friendly and helpful staff. The menu offered a variety of dishes and was not expensive.

My worst restaurant experience in my entire life!

By Ana G |

We were treated with no respect, The waiter was rude. Plus the place is dark and spooky. Do not even bother visiting this overrated place.

Dark and cozy restaurant

By David R |

We had a great experience here. Mafia-style with red leather chairs and little illumination. Velvet, mirrors and a great bar in the middle. The foot was very good. Recommended!

Interesting atmosphere and great food

By expediccionado |

The place kind of dark and has an old mafia movie feel to it, but I think it adds to the experience of great italian food. The service is quick and friendly and every dish I've eaten there has been delicious. I came here every week this fall with a small group and they were always willing to accommodate us. They have good wine specials and half-orders of food are available.

Wonderful Surprise in Seattle

By Mark0313 |

We found this place on a recent vacation in Seattle and loved it. The place will remind you of a NYC style nightclub restaurant - with intimate seating, live music, a great Italian menu and an excellent atmosphere for a quiet dining experience. If you want to avoid chain restaurants and harken back to the days when dining included top notch service, white linen tablecloths, and a bit of elegance, this is the place.

Italian/American

By FloridaCursillista |

After attending mass while visiting Seattle one of the locals recommended Vito's to us and it was wonderful. Each of us ordered something different and all the meals were delicious. They were very welcoming and our waiter, Ryan, was very polite and helpful with his recommendations.

New York Style Underground

By AmiePetite |

I love Vito's for its dark decor, excellent cocktails, and delicious, generous Italian food. I've been with friends, by myself, and as a pair and it's always a pleasure. It feels like going into a New York speak easy.

a Valentine dinner

By Harvey6f |

My wife and I arrived without a reservation. The hostess kindly accommodated us. We appreciated that they require proofs of vaccination. Our entrees were excellent. The cocktails were well prepared and customized. The wine list has many diverse choices. OMG - one portion of tiramisu was more than enough for both of us. The waitstaff took good care of us. The live piano music was an added treat. It is dimly illuminated...charming and glad we had a flashlight on our cellphone to read the menu.

We Kept Going Back

By Sally S |

Stayed at a hotel nearby. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere so much we went back 4 times! Lots of standard italian food on the menu -- the most outstanding was the scallops on polenta. It was incredible. Great bar scene -- great cocktail menu. Loved listening to live music almost every night. Will definitely go again!

Good food, and...The. Cougar. Room.

By Mariemarblehead |

Vito's is a great time. Such an unexpected gem, we had heard about this place from our local coworkers. We were a large group, and they accommodated us immediately. The food was great, and the decor really does not disappoint. If I lived here, I would highly recommend renting out the cougar room. Its only used for private parties, but the staff will let you take a look if its not being used. This room is magical. Must see.

Vito's hasn't yet returned to its old glory

By tabb7118 |

We ate at Vito's on Saturday, january 15. The place was clean, the staff was friendly, but it was absolutely deserted at 5:30 when our reservations were set (so we could get to the opera). One of our group had a history with the old Vito's from 20-30 years ago, and missed the rollicking, neighborhood ambiance. The service was excellent, the food was well done and generous, but the pace was EMPTY. WE hoped it would be full later in the evening. It has new ownership and deserves to survive.

Ok American Italian

By Domi |

Ok food - very good bruschetta, pasta was okish. It doesn't taste Italian, but American Italian for sure. Service was mediocre - very angry, hence no more than 3 stars.

Wonderful food, atmosphere and great service!

By Janet O |

Went here 4 times in 6 days while in Seattle. Staying at the Hotel Sorrento and found this great place within walking distance. Loving the food and the music. Had a salad with a side of meatballs - just the BEST!. Very friendly staff!

A good experience overall

By Sheryl B |

So let me start off with this is a 21 and older restaurant. I read a lot or reviews from people who didn't know that, so there you go. The food was good. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. The service (shout out to Matt) was really awesome, but overall there was one drawback, this place is DARK! Like dark-dark. I'm not being metaphorical. Reading the menu was a real task (sad the woman with 20/20 vision) and then we had to ask for an additional candle at out table to even see our food because while the room started out dark, they went on to "dim" the lights (I use the word lights here very sparingly... which is appropriate). While the food was good, if you have eye sight issues I wouldn't dine here as you will literally not be able to see you food or the people with whom you are dining.

Superb night at Vitos

By FruitMonsters |

Great bar, good drink selection and the entertainment was excellent. The atmosphere was just what you want from an evening out. We sat at the bar and the bar tenders were very nice and attentive. No cover charge (at least when we went). A recommended evening out in Seattle.

A top 5 Restaurant

By Jessica S |

The BESY Italian food accompanied by friendly service, creative drinks, and live jazz! This has to be my all-time favourite restaurant. You feel like you have taken a time machine back to the Jazz lounge of the mid-century. It's dark and a bit hard to see your food, but it lends to the romantic atmosphere. Walking out we felt honoured to have experienced the beautiful music created steps away from us, the best bruschetta and caprese salad of my life, and attentive service. I will definitely go back!

AH-mazing food!

By Janice M |

Found this place after searching for a restaurant within walking distance of our downtown hotel. It’s not easy to spot on the street but we are SO glad we did. It is dim inside with a pleasant New York style ambiance. We ordered drinks and happy hour appetizers and proceeded to enjoy the best meal of the entire trip! The Caesar salad is quite simply the best I’ve ever tasted. Sliders, pasta and meatballs rounded out the menu and each out tried to outdo the other. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced. Staff is very friendly. We can’t WAIT to go back!

Old school good

By ColbertGD |

The place is old style dark and wood. Its ambiance matches. Very pleasant. Courtney and Julie as bartenders were great. Courtney is very calm, smooth, professional and attentive. Julie took over and kept the style going. First, they have an excellent choice of rums, and dark rums, which in this whiskey crazed age is unusual. The wine list of Italian choices was very impressive. The Mushroom Fettuccine was excellent, fresh crimini mushrooms in a lighter sauce over the noodles. The 2014 Tenuta Valpolicella Ripasso matched very well.

Throwback lounge

By axs666 |

Visit yesteryear when lounges were lounges and lounge lizards were lounge lizards. All they had to do to be hipster in 2014 was wait and not redecorate for 40 years. Think of a dive bar combined with a 70's Italian lounge, mix in some live jazz and hipsters with beards and there you have it. An OK place to chill with a few drinks.

Solo Dinner in Lounge at 4:01 on Tuesday

By locallogic |

I wanted decent food and cheap wine. I wanted to be in and out in under an hour. I wanted to be left alone. Vitos fit the bill. Ryan at the bar was attentive but not chatty. He took my request for a pasta substitution with aplomb (the angel hair - marinara - crab dish with diavolo sauce instead); he was quick to serve the house wine. No complaints, and the pasta was terrific. Not a huge fan of the garlic bread though - too crusty, and the sauce too glompy and sweet.

Throwback, Italian supper club, restaurant-bar - live music

By Steve S |

Our visit to Vito's was fabulous. We enjoyed a jazz trio with wonderful female vocalist and had some drinks at the bar. Service was super. The atmosphere with subdued lighting was great - just people enjoying great live music in a relaxed setting. Perfect place to get away from your schedule and work routine. We didn't have food, but people all around seemed to be enjoying their's. And the aromas from the kitchen made me want to go back for dinner!

Great dinner

By Diane w |

Great little neighborhood italian restaurant with red velvet on the ceiling and a disco ball in the corner. Loved the pasta and atmosphere! Friendly service too. Strawberry gelato was excellent way to top off dinner.

Don't let the interior fool you.

By loisk244 |

We almost left after arriving but stayed after realizing the place was packed on a Tuesday night. We were not disappointed. I had the lasagna and it was so good. Someone else had the filet mignon and my was is heavenly. My only complaint was that it was so dark we couldn't see the food we were eating. We had to use the table candle to be able to sign our checks.

Great evening

By Hal72 |

We came here with friends to listen to their son/grandson play jazz piano. Great place to listen to him. We had wine and dinner, too. Good house wine, wonderful pizzas and pastas. I suspect that a full meal would be as good. It was a comfortable place with an "old" homey feel. Not too loud.

Cool time warp spot, great vibe, reheated frozen food.

By dannymangold |

Right on Madison Ave. up on First Hill by the Sorrento Hotel is Vitos. it is a really cool throwback kind of place that is pretty genuine in atmosphere and service. Not to sound like some Gordon Ramsey wanna-be, but 90% of all the food tastes microwaved and pretty average. The bar is pretty hip as is the crowd around it.

Love this place

By cinann |

We stumbled upon this restaurant and loved it. We had a great meal with great service and atmosphere.

One of. Seattle''s Finest!!

By soosihongkong |

Vito''s is one of Seattle's classic restaurants frequented by the rich and famous, as well as travelers and locals who are looking for fine Italian food and memorable atmosphere. Wide menu choice, fine dining. Can be noisy and a little dark.

Go for the ambiance, the music, and the drinks!

By Crystal T |

It's difficult to review places that fill many genres of business. For instance, Vito's gets 5 stars from me for ambiance and music. But my entree was not good. The restaurant is cozy and dark, the jazz is smooth, the martini is dry. Just the type of Jazz club you picture from the movies and want to see while in Seattle. Our server was not great. He seemed to think it strange that we wanted to prolong the time between our courses so we could stay and enjoy the music. We ordered an appetizer, salads, mains, and desserts (as well as drinks and coffee). When we were finished a course we just wanted to wait a bit before ordering the next course. The place was not busy by any means and so we weren't hogging a table. The server acted like we were space aliens for not wanting to whip through the meal. One would think it would be common practice for people to take their time in order to enjoy the band as well. For an appetizer we ordered the fruit/cheese platter. This was great! What a nice light choice for an appetizer! We then had the house salad. This too was quite inspired! Slivers of grapefruit and shallot dressing on mixed greens and pepitas. Delish! For our mains my husband ordered the tarragon gnocchi and it was quite good. I ordered the eggplant with ricotta and it was SO salty I couldn't finish it.When you prepare eggplant you put salt on it to draw the moisture out...but then you RINSE it before you continue on with the preparation. It was clear the chefs at Vito's missed that step/lesson. For dessert I had the in-house made tiramasu which was delightful, and my husband had the cannoli which was even better than the tiramasu. All in all, other than my entree, the food was quite good. However, none of it was SPECTACULAR. If you have another restaurant you are more interested in trying the night you want to go to Vito's, eat there and then head to Vito's for dessert, drinks, and jazz.

Expected to see Tony Saprano there!

By kalamazootx |

This was a true Italian restaurant with the nostalgia to go along with it. It looked like a scene from the Sapranos. The lasagna was amazing. The atmosphere perfect. Only drawback: musty weird smell.

Great tiramisu

By gabriellap |

Lovely old school restaurant. Great food, excellent tiramisu. Serve is friendly and efficient. We will definitely go back.

Close to Sorrento Hotel

By NVCBJ |

One block from Sorrento Hotel. As other reviews mention, it is quite dark inside - more like a bar than a restaurant. Red leatherette upholstery and dark wood takes one back to earlier times, Food was fine, but nothing special. Other reviews mention slow service, but if anything our service was too fast.

Hate to share this find...

By bl1416 |

We love Vitos. If it wasn't such a large place I wouldn't review it. Excellent old Italian ambiance. Consistently excellent food, great drinks, lots of locals. Plenty of live music. We've sat at the bar and in a dark booth, both are equally enjoyable.

Antipasto dinner at the bar

By skal_1110 |

Attended a concert at the Town Hall and all the nearby restaurants were full. We ended up having antipasto platters at the bar. It was good but we didn't have enough time to have a meal so the circumstances were less than ideal. The bartender was our server.

Excellent food within two minutes walking from Sorrento!

By William M |

Outstanding italian food, great staff and service. Recommend reservations becuase the place gets packed after 8PM!

Good music - too dark restaurant

By RobertaCar |

We went because of the live music - super nice piano. However, the waitress Didn’t allow us to seat where we wanted because the table was reserved for8:30. But it was 6:10!!! Good food - super small portion. Ordered a Grilled ceasar salad with chicken with dressing on the side. It came with a lot of pepper - although dressing was on the side

Entertainment

By Melanie N |

We were looking for a good / decent Italian restaurant in the city . Most places needs reservation , long wait on a Friday nite . They had a few table for dinner and most are having cocktails . Food was good . And service was great . My group had spaghetti with meatballs . Meatballs was smoked which my kids didn't like but husband loved . Didn't know if it's typical . While dining an entertainer played he was good , so it made the nite enjoyable

A Jem InThe City!

By Deb1028 |

A great restaurant, lounge and a special added extra of live music! Proudly serving since the 1950's it is an old school setting of dark woods, white table clothes and intimate seating. You would think you were transported back to a nightclub. A truly wonderful Italian Restaurant with home made pasta's, chicken parmesan and chicken marsala which all were delicious . Service was top notch and the surprising addition of live piano music was just perfect!

Dark Dining with OK Food

By Joshua R |

We came as a group to eat here after a work event and it looked good from the reviews. We went on a Monday night and it was not busy at all. As others have said the dining room is very dark, so dark in fact I had to hold my menu over the candle to see it. Others used their phones to see it as well. We had their house red wine which was very good and I would recommend it. I ordered the Cavatappi Bolognese and was not too impressed. It was ok but did not knock my socks off by any means. Others had the same reaction to their meals as well, not great but not bad either. The neat thing is that you can order the pasta dishes as 1/2 portions which were great since we were eating a little later than I normally would like. I split the cannoli dessert with a friend and it was by far the best thing I had there. I probably would not go back again but they were starting live music as we left which may be good.

Like being in Little Italy

By Ricmar60 |

This restaurant is a few blocks outside of the downtown area, but an easy walk. It's also just a block or so from St James Cathedral. You will have no doubt that you are in an Italian restaurant. Red tufted leather booths, and a mandolin and accordion player. We had the spaghetti and meatballs and Chicken Marsala, both very good. The place gets very crowded (at least when we were there on a Saturday), but they do take reservations. If you like Italian food, give this place a try.

Cool place.

By SarJen80 |

The food was delicious. The service was good. The drinks are AMAZING. Surprised to not find a wait on a Saturday night, but was grateful we found this little hidden gem!

" Old Seattle "

By cyprusbeachgirl6 |

This place is old and when I say old it's been around for over 60+ years. Of course they have new owners & it's been modernized to hipster status . It's a perfectly dark place to hide from anyone you may know , maybe perfect place to have an affair , drink , eat , listen to great music and enjoy a little piece of history that's original seattle . The decor is lovely compared to the outside & they do have a private room in case you want to host a small party . Food consist of Pizza & Italian and it's mediocre though it's not bad . Service was nice & staff are friendly and helpful Drinks are great I love this place , it's been years since I've been and it's somewhere I will return because I miss my old city . This reminds me of why I've never chosen to live elsewhere . Some things should never change If you want a fun night out , check it out !

Dinner near downtown Seattle.

By William T |

We were staying downtown at a Seattle hotel The night before we were scheduled to board a ship for a cruise. Did not want hotel food. A local resident recommended Vito's which was within walking distance of our hotel. It was a steep walk up the hill to the restaurant but is was worth it. It is an old retro Italian neighborhood restaurant. The food and service was excellent. Try the chicken marsala or the lasagna, There was live music on the Friday we were there. Very relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. A little expensive but manageable.

Fun place

By Jim A |

Popped in here on a whim about 10:30 pm on a Saturday night with two friends and enjoyed the hipster energy. The woman torch singer was great and enjoyed the classic old school lounge decor. Also enjoyed that the place was only about 80% full so we could easily get a comfortable place to sit. Negatives which cost them a star or two in my rating: street parking in this area is horrendous and when it's raining out, you don't enjoy walking two blocks from a pay lot. Expecting a great old school martini, the one I received was not at all chilled and seemed to be straight gin. The server had zero personality and had a permanent scowl, said nothing to make us feel welcome. Then when we were ready to leave, he brought us our bill but never returned to get my credit card and close out the tab. After waiting for 10 minutes, I finally took it up to the bar and found someone who would take my money. A nice place to hang out with friends which could be amazing with a few tweaks.

Fantastic cocktails

By Dawn J |

My daughter and I dropped in for a drink at the end of a really hectic day and ended up having a light dinner. The cheese appetizer plate was delicious and perfect for two and I HIGHLY recommend the Sister Golden Hair cocktail. Delicious and it packed a nice little punch that made sleep later that much better.

Nice Romantic Feel.

By maggiemg |

We stopped off here after a long Tourist day, and enjoyed the atmosphere, def feels like a authentic Italian restaurant. The hubby and I enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine and shared a pasta plate. We had salads also, but they were ok. Overall I would try it again when I wasn't so tired, they had a jazz trio playing and made for an even better experience!

It seemed nearly impossible one night during our vacation in Seattle for my wife and I to find a place to eat that was both reasonably priced and a quality sit down restaurant until we stumbled upon Vito's. The service was great and the food was amazing. Even though there is a large bar that seems to take up a majority of the restaurant, it does not diminish the dining experience. The ambiance was very nice and there was a live piano player as an added treat. After two starters, two entrees, and a glass of wine I could not believe that the bill was a little over $60. From my experience in the city that is an amazing price point for what they offer. If I ever return to Seattle I will definitely be dropping in for a plate of their spaghetti and meatballs.

Great food, a little noisy

By Boygirl34 |

We booked Vito’s on a Friday night. It’s a great place with really nice food and friendly staff, very busy and the history of the place is clear. My only recommendation would be to ask for a table away from the band if playing. We didn’t realise this and were unable to chat when they were on.

Decent food. A little dreary in atmosphere and service.

By Pete M |

We ate here because we saw live music advertised, so we booked a time around that and wandered (climbed) up the hill to the restaurant from the water. Turns out, the particular artist wasn't playing -- apparently she's elderly and often cancelled, but we stayed for dinner anyway. The atmosphere is dark, but not in a particularly romantic way. The service was fair at best -- mostly inattentiveness. We split a bottle of Super Tuscan and had a decent meal (I had lasagna -- it was good, but most lasagna is). Overall, we were a bit underwhelmed. Wouldn't seek it out again, though I wouldn't turn it down if I was hungry and it was nearby.

Old School Italian

By cburnsesq |

This place is about 4 blocks from the Renaissance so we walked down. Started with the Carpaccio which was a little pricey and not my favorite. However the chicken Parm and Mushroom Fettucine we had were excellent and somewhat reasonably priced. Its a little loud but the food is authentic and well flavored. Service was attentive. I'd go back.

Very dark interior

By ALS200858736 |

Coming inside this bar from the bright sunlight was a big daunting because of the lighting. Rather like entering a cave. Couldn't see much of the place but the gin and tonics were great. Good service, friendly staff. I would recommend this place for intimate encounters or serious discussions where you don't want to reveal your body language.

Solid old school

By Eric O |

Two blocks from Renaissance hotel, an easy walk. Old school Italian restaurant, with early 60's feel. Pasta, steaks, seafood all respectable, no trendiness here! Music many nights.

Old School Italian with a Touch of Hipster!

By CourtneySeattle_WA |

Here is what I mean, upon walking into the restaurant I felt like I was on the set of Soprano's or Goodfellas. However, wait staff was very much hipster crowd. I have driven by this restaurant many times but never stopped. What finally got me here was live music. We were there on a Saturday night and they had piano music (which is very hard to find in Seattle nowadays). We showed up a bit after 7pm and the place was packed. By 7:45pm most of the happy hour crowd had departed. Great old school vibe. We had the antipasto which was fine. Service was great! My only complaint was bar tables were a bit small. We had to pull two tables together so we had space for our appetizer and drinks. I am looking forward to visiting next time I am in the area.

Wonderful !!!!

By Martin G |

Thanks to some very good reviews of Vito's on Trip Advisor, we decided to give it a try and are we ever glad. Yes the atmosphere is dark, but the food was terrific. The service was excellent as was the overall feeling of the place. Each one of our party of four was very happy with their choice of entree. If you find yourself looking for a place to enjoy a good meal in Seattle, check out Vito's. You will not be sorry

Special place. Iconic mid-century modern Italian “joint”

By JerryJurkovich |

The description on open table is spot on. Great piano the night we were there. Live music most nights. Italian family food plus. — more special then “comfort food” but generous, tasty, well served. Great bar. A great conversation table. Dark and red ambiance. go. You Will love it’s feel

good food but very dark

By familyman9000 |

We ate here with a group. The food was good, but the restaurant was very dark inside. We used flashlights on our phones to read the menu

Great food and service

By Michelle Z |

My parents and I came here after hearing about the live music, Italian mandolin and the second group, jazz. We had excellent service. We ordered beet salad, half Caesar, garlic bread, baked gnocchi, spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna and shared cannoli. The garlic bread was great and had real garlic cloves and a punch of flavor. Each of our entrees were excellent. I’ve had cannoli at highly rated specialty places in Little Italy in Boston and New York City. I liked this one even better. We also appreciate the live music.

Happy Hour

By Michele G |

Wonderful food and cheap drinks at happy hour. Try the sliders and garlic bread ! Wish we could have stayed for the piano playing later

Close to the Hospital very nice, nicer than outside portrays

By billolywa |

My wife and I went to dinner there during their 'Happy Hour' as we wanted to get back to the hospital to be with our daughter. The menu was complete with lots of nice choices, I had two very cold and delicious local Ciders, my wife's house Red was not up to par but the white was quite nice. Service was good, food was tasty and as expected. We had anticipated returning for a 'Dinner' dinner the next night but our daughter was released early. The lounge and bar area was filled with happy locals, off from work and close to home. We would return again .

Dinne With Friends

By Paul M |

A true NYC style Italian restaurant in downtown Seattle. If you need a great east coast Italian meal when you are in the great northwest this is the place Food very good, wine list was also very complimentary to the menu.

Sinatra

By William M |

The bar maid was squeezing orange juice as we arrived. They were playing Frank on the background. Live music on Wednesday. Charm of another era. Great tile work in the men’s room too

Only good things to say...

By ToddBass |

We came here on a night we planned to be spontaneous, we decided to come here because they had live music before 8pm. The music was great, traditional Italian style music, two older gentleman, very classy, not too loud and can still converse. We were there with my cousin and his wife, we got lucky because we had no reservations, but it was happy hour too. The dark atmosphere was perfect, I would not say it was too dark like others have said, but it is a little dark. The waiter was great, recommended a certain delectable dish, and was on top of our requests. Now for the food... It was AWESOME! Soo good, we couldn't stop talking about how good it was while we ate it. Whomever does not think this food is good is a fool in my opinion, but what I know, I'm just a guy who loves food, I'm no critic but I certainly have had my fair share of Italian food (I do consider myself a Mexican food connoisseur). Great! We will be back, no doubt, if for nothing else at least drinks and music. And I am so glad our spontaneity worked out, we were after all celebrating my cousins wife's birthday and having a last hurrah before my cousin gets sent off for duty in the navy.

Great lounge

By t c |

Place was recommended to us by a great bartender at another plqce after he found out we were staying at the Sorreno Hotel. After doing a foodie tour today, we trusged back toward our hotel. Vitos is the block away. Trule a throw back lounge. Can see why we were told this was a mob hangout years ago. Great happy hour wines and cava. Bourbon and ginger came with real ginger ale. Live music, great bartender and good drinks.

Best Italian restaurant in Seattle

By Bailey C |

I LOVE this place. Everything about it is great. The prices are great compared to other Italian restaurants in the city and the food is delicious. You must get the bruschetta. Great happy hour and a great selection of whiskeys plus a great cocktail menu. Not to mention the atmosphere. Extremely romantic with very low lighting and frequently has live music. When my boyfriend and I went with friends, there was a pianist and a man tap dancing around the room and singing like we were in the 1950s. I felt like I might run into Tony Soprano. I swear I do not work here I just love it so much I felt the need to share. I believe it is a 21+ establishement.

As good as it was

By Bob & Mary |

We were excited to be able to visit Vito's. We lived across the street for many years and it was one of our favorite restaurants. The food was always good and for newlyweds on a budget, it was a great value. We had the chance to get back to Seattle and Vito's was first on the list to eat. The new owners and made some changes but also kept much of the character of the original and have done a wonderful job. The menu was a little leaner than we remember but the quality of the food and service were still top notch. My scallops were amazing-I'd never thought scallops could be that savory...but they can! My wife ordered her favorite, lasagna. When it was delivered she was worried it was too much. Funny thing about great food, wine and atmosphere...you do what you think you can't, and she finished the lasagna. I had a bit and quickly realized why she loved it. The middle layer of pasta had been replaces with sausage! Yep...a whole layer of sausage! It was one of the best I've ever tasted. Our server was great...just enough attitude to make it fun. We were glad we'd made a reservation...because it got busy pretty quickly. It's still a great neighborhood restaurant but also worth a drive. I can't wait to get back again. Hope it doesn't take 30 years though!

Classic Italian food and atmosphere

By World H |

This was one of the closest places to my hotel, so I tried it. This restaurant is dark, with red and mirrored decor - it could be in New Jersey. Friendly and helpful Holly waited on me, and I had her recommendation for pasta (prawn, sausage, bow tie pasta). It was delicious and filling. I recommend this for your dining pleasure.

Great Italian food and awesome ambience

By Luisa T |

I love the ambience here. It is dark, very comfortable, and it has an old school Italian charm. My friend and I sat at the bar and had some drinks. The bartender was nice, quick, and helped us with our order. We got a cheese plate to start, which was delicious. The onion compote on the cheese board was a great addition (although I wish they had the option of gluten free crackers, which are not hard to find these days). I ordered the fettuccini mushroom dish. They say all their pasta dishes are available as gluten free, so I was looking forward to gluten free fettuccini, but instead it seems like they have the same penne pasta for all the gluten free orders. This was disappointing because had I known this, I would have opted for a red sauce. It was nonetheless tasty. Also wish they had gnocchi gluten free (which is a super easy pasta to make gluten free - just use rice flour and potatoes!) My friend had the margarita pizza, which she said was good, but it was very small for the price. It was the size of a small plate. Definitely enough for 1, but not enough to share. Will definitely be back, although will choose a different pasta this time!

Thoroughly enjoyable

By Cheechako2 |

I just had dinner here for the first time in 10 years, It hasn't changed much, and that's the appeal. I'm in my sixties and remember good authentic Italian restaurants - ones that were based in the work and talent of real Italian families. And this feels like one. It has an intimate old feel to it. The current wait staff and bar tenders are real pros. They know how to please customers and keep the service going at the right pace. Plus on the night I was there they had a local jazz trio playing beginning at 8:00 PM, which added greatly to the atmosphere. If you go, the antipasti cheese appetizer is highly recommended. The ingredients were first rate.

Worst Tiramisu ever

By Daryl H |

The garlic chicken pizza was very good. However, they need a whole new recipe for their tiramisu. For several years now, every time I go to a restaurant that serves tiramisu, I have to have a piece to see who's is the best. Well, now I know who's is the worst. The custard had a very odd flavor. Even Ruby Tuesday's tiramisu is better...and theirs is not very good.

Do not go here! Basic management problems!

By ShawnSmith2458 |

I have wanted to go to Vito's for years. Me and my partner live a few blocks away on First Hill. Both of us were excited to finally make reservations and check out this long standing restaurant in our neighborhood. Unfortunately, our excitement was quelled by a less than desirable experience. After thinking about our experience, I am certain that this is a management issue. First off, the wait to be greeted and get a seat is ridiculous. Not only for us, but as I watched guests enter the restaurant, they were confused and put off by the fact that no one acknowledged and greeted them. Many times, we witnessed as guests would slowly walk into the dining room and hail a server to be seated. The first day I walked in to make a reservation, I was wearing my bicycle helmet and a bright red rain jacket. I could not have stood out more. But I still waited for over 5 minutes before I was greeted to take the initial reservation. And as we sat there eating, I saw a few people turn around and leave because of the lack of a host/hostess. First impressions are crucial! Dear management, please spend the extra $$$ to hire a proper host/hostess like most restaurants. You are losing business, and it looks very bad. Second thing, the online menu on their website is outdated. We researched eating here for Valentine's, and had our hearts set on a couple tasty looking cocktails, only to find out that this menu has been replaced by a new menu a while ago. It wasn't the server's fault, but it put her in a bad position to tell me, "respectfully sir, many of these specialty liquors are not available." This was annoying. Dear management, please spend the appropriate $$$ to keep your online menu up to date. Thirdly, they ran out of bread. We were there at 6 pm, and by 6:45 pm they had ran out of bread for the tables. I overheard the server tell the guest next to us that they had ran out. They were annoyed, as were many people who did not have any bread to go with their meal. Who runs out of bread on Valentine's Day?! And all the tables were not filled. It was not packed. Dear management, spend more $$$ to have the basics, namely bread. Fourthly, when I went to cut my pork chop, my plate slid all over the glass table like a fresh salmon at the fish market. The meal was very good, but I should not have to chase my plate around the table trying to cut my pork chop. If I was older and weaker, I would have had two bites, and given up. I shouldn't have to fight for my food. Dear management, spend a few $$$ to get placemats, or plates that don't slide around. Fifth, the portion sizes for the pasta were embarrassingly small. It may have fed a child, but not an adult. For the price of the meal, there should have been salad or something to go with the pasta. We couldn't have bread, because they ran out. We all know how cheap pasta is. Please serve larger portions of the pasta, it really doesn't cost that much more. We should not have to leave hungry after spending over $100. Dear management, please spend a few more $$$ to serve larger portions of pasta. Your portions are just embarrassing. I would make the 6th point to be the dim lighting. But that's a minor thing. Romantic lighting only goes so far until you can't read the menu without a flashlight. You should make it easier for us to spend more money. Do not go to this restaurant! I truly wanted to like it because of the history and location. But I cannot endorse this restaurant or recommend it to anyone. Terrible service and an overall bad experience. The food tasted decent, other than the hard garlic bread. Save your money and go to Olympic Pizza and get their pasta or lasagna. You will spend a lot less money, and you will actually feel happy and FULL when you leave.

Staten Island In Seattle

By Philip G |

This is not truly an accurate review. We stopped into Vito's late on a Friday night. A throwback 1980s band was playing, and the place was packed with a middle aged horny crowd looking to hook up. Saturday Night Fever was alive and well on this particular Friday night. It was vintage Staten Island, if you get my reference. It was entertaining to observe, but not what I expected from a purported jazz club. Bartenders were nice, there was no cover, and food was fine. My guess is the atmosphere and ambiance would be different if a jazz band was playing. None the less, go Bee Gees!

Prawns and sausage?

By Terry Q |

Stayinf near Virginia Mason Hospital to go to an appointment the next day, I decided to go back to Vito's. I had the Farfalle Diavolo, a pasta dish with sausage, 3 large prawns, and bow tie pasta in a creamy tomato sauce. Who would have that prawns and sausage would go together so well? It was nicely spicy, absolutely delicious, and inexpensive. Ask for bread on the side, which has a crunchy crust and moist interior. An additional improvement would be to shave fresh parmesan over the top.

Nothing special

By jazger |

I went here because it was close to my hotel. It was ok. Nothing great. Easy to get a seat on a friday night, if that is any indication. The service was ok, the food, ok. I wouldn't go again.

A wonderful hidden gem

By mtheobald |

This restaurant was amazing, you wouldn’t tell from the outside but once you walk in it is a hidden gem. The food was amazing, loved the zesty sauce. It was a little dark inside and they lowered the lights a little more but was a very romantic atmosphere. They had live music which was a little too loud I was unable to hear my conversation with my significant other across from me. Overall we had an amazing experience and would recommend it!

Great place for food and drink.

By eatintheclaw |

Our doctor recommended this place for happy hour. Great find in Seattle. The drinks were spot on and the happy hour menu small but adequate. They had great service without the attitude of some places. Even the restroom was spotless. Couldn't ask for a better place to dine.

I haven't stopped thinking about this food!

By Stefanie C |

My hotel concierge suggested Vitos when I asked for a nearby place where adults might go for entertainment. Seattle is too full of venues that cater to 20-somethings, so this was a nice change for me. It was the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, and I sat at the bar and ordered a drink and the Pan-Seared Tuna. Absolutely delicious! I don't usually eat much pasta, but I couldn't stop until I was forced to stop because there was nothing left on my plate. I was alone, and it would have been nice to chit chat a bit more with the bartenders, but I think Seattleites are a little more reserved than most of us from the Midwest. On my next trip to Seattle, I will be back for more of that tuna! Compliments to the Chef!

Dust off your Zoot Suit!

By Nick R |

Vito's on Seattle's capital hill has all the ambience of an old speakeasy or zoot suit jazz joint feel of the 1940s. Vito's live music and dimly lit dining room are of a true relic of the days gone by. It is easy to pretend that the bartender has a Tommy stashed next to the Bourbon, ya know, just in case! (Just kidding) Prices are reasonable, good food and service. Nitpick: Too dark to read menu.

great for jazz and cocktails

By turkergirl |

Bartender extraordinaire! We sat at the bar and ordered after-dinner cocktails. The bartender was attentive, but not intrusive. She also made excellent suggestions, and I may have had the best Limoncello of my life! Wednesdays and Sundays are great nights for the music!!

Old School Italian Restaurant

By TheFarkman |

All the place needed was red and white tablecloths. Food was very tasty old fashioned Italian food that I used to enjoy 30 - 40 years ago. Nothing fancy, just good pasta dishes and friendly staff. Reasonably priced, good sized, but not huge portions. I would return.

Nice hideaway Resturaunt

By Jesse Z |

Good food and full well stocked bar, this Resturaunt delivers good food with a very sixties vibe. The place is dark so it's hard to read the menu but the ambiance works well. Good place to go during a convention.

Don't Overlook This Spot On First Hill

By FlyingCapricorn |

Last night my boyfriend and I wandered over to this neighborhood spot after a seven year or so absence of my last dining experience there. The interior has been changed but the atmosphere was still dark and romantic in an old-school classic sort of way. We ate at the bar since the dining room was full on this cool autumn Friday night. This seating actually allowed us to interact with a very attentive and giving bartender. She poured us a few sips of various liquors we had not tried before which was very much appreciated. She also was able to interact with us from time to time on various topics (music, travel, food and server/bartender dynamics) that kept us engaged with her throughout the night. The menu was revised recently and some entree items we wanted to enjoy were not available. Never to be defeated with food, we both decided to try some similar entrees that were on the spot. Chicken Caponata, Chicken Marsala, Penne Bolognese were in front of us. Yes, we threw in a third entree because there was Bolognese (Wouldn't you?). All three entrees were well prepared without any pretense. Straight forward and portioned correctly. Our appetizers were grilled mushrooms and sausages that actually came from the sides menu. A cool autumn night just had us hungry for comfort food and this place delivered. Dessert was cheesecake. It was no nonsense and traditional. Nothing special but just plain good. The romantic environment and the food just may have me back a little sooner than a seven year gap.

Great Food...Service So So

By ImGregB |

Just a short few block walk from the Renaissance on Madison and found the place with no problem on a Monday evening. When we walked in we saw it was a seat yourself policy in either the dining area or the lounge area. The two areas are separated by a bar and there is a small area for live acts. This evening there was a talented gentleman playing piano. The place was approximately 75% full, and we soon discovered there was only one server working the entire place. She was practically running from one table to the other. When she got to us to take our order there was no introduction and no explanation about the menu or anything else. I ordered the Cioppino for my female friend and the Lasagna for myself. I would have liked to have ordered some spinach and maybe some type of appetizer, but she just kind of turned and ran off. I saw the orders arrive for the table next to us and the portion sizes were quite ample. When my Lasagna arrived it was a good sized portion and was delicious. The Cioppino was in my opinion just a little small on the portion size, and was better than average on the tastiness scale. You can tell everything was made on the premises. I had to ask for bread for my lady friend to eat with the Cioppino to soak up the juices, and we could not get our water glasses refilled enough due to the lack of service. We had ordered a glass of the house red with our meals which was okay. We split an order of Tiramisu. It was a good sized portion for two and it too was delish. Overall great food, but found the service lacking. I would definitely recommend. Maybe they had a server absent that evening or another reasonable explanation for the difficulties they were experiencing.

Dark and with a sense of danger

By L_Sellers-Earl |

Their website says it all. They claim mobsters and "private parties" and seem to deliver. Happy hour prices are groovy, although my non-listed beverage was mid- to high-priced. We went there as a group of journalists after a training day and were mostly able to converse. The piano man (on a Thursday night) was enjoyable. It's so dark that it was hard to recognize others in our group, but that's kindof fun, right? The appetizers we had were tasty and I suspect their meals measure up. The servers were overly concerned that you only dealt with one, so tabbing out took longer than it should, but he was a good guy, prompt on asking about refills, but hesitant about bringing water when we had some with our group appetizers. I'll go back for the atmosphere.

Classic Italian

By tjq2014 |

This feels like a classic Italian restaurant, with all common Italian foods. The decor is "friendly", the staff are great and attentive, and it is easily accessible from downtown (if you don't mind a steep uphill walk!). I had a filling and delicious sausage and garlic pizza along with an olve and pita appetizer.

The service was very bad.

By Htfshtfs |

Very noisy. Food was average, but the service was awful. We waited a very long time to get our meal while other people were served their food even though we were there before them.

Lively entertainment, great food, great wait staff and cool old school atmosphere

By TikiTravels |

The restaurant is like stepping into an old school martini bar with red booths, bar stools and a grand piano. There are pictures of all the cusotmers that date back to the 70's. The bar is the centerpoint of the restaurant and lfull of lively people. This is a great restaurant for people watching. We went here on New Years and ate their 5 course dinner. The servers were friendly and the food was great. I have eaten here before and would recommend their antipasto platter, any pasta and one of their specialty cocktails. The restaurant had a grand piano player performing for most of the night playing old jazz classics and more. I would recommend this place on any night.

Absolutely Terrible

By TravelerMax |

When I called to make a reservation, the lady on the phone told me all guests were required to provide proof of vaccination. This policy is ridiculous, unlawful, and should not be tolerated.

Loved the concert, crowd and bartenders!

By Gee687 |

Came in by chance one night with a female band playing all sorts of music - fantastic voice, great drinx and athmosphere - can only recommend it !

Vito's had a great neighborhood vibe....

By James M |

I knew from when I first entered that there was a great sense of tradition here. The menu is everything one would expect. Many patrons seemed to know each other and were familiar with the piano player. We had a delightful meal and enjoyed the feel of this place. It was the perfect and unpretentious way to end our Seattle visit.

meh!

By Jinna_11 |

It was very cute that the wait staff were dressed in 30's attire. The staff were mediocre, the service was ok. I don't want to make this review sound too bad. It would be great place for college students to be. It was similar to a pub. The food was not too bad, I had the cannelloni and the caprese salad.

Classic, solid Italian fare

By CurtKwak |

Excellent food & unique experience.. you just have to see it to believe it. I found it a bit too dark for my taste, but it's a lively environment that serves excellent food.

Ridiculously good pasta

By Jennifer K |

Was in the mood for some good italian food and read good reviews for Vito's. The restaurant looked like an old dark jazz bar. The hostess and waiter gave good recommendations on wine and food, and they were very attentive. The pasta bolognese was outstanding! ! Probably the best I've had and I come from a picky Italian family! I would definitely recommend to those craving good italian food.

not for kids

By Melissa634 |

This looked like a great place - dark and cool but we couldn't get in because three of our family were under 21, even though it's a restaurant (but attached to a bar) so bear that in mind if you're with minors.

Convenient on First Hill

By Orangulu |

I'd driven by Vito's many times. to/fro doctor's appointments at Swedish Hospital. On a recent Saturday night we were in that area for a concert and our preferred restaurant had gone out of business, so for lack of anything else open nearby that evening that might provide a quick dinner, we popped into Vito's. It proved to be a pleasant meal, quickly and well prepared and served. I had an lovely and unusual potato and truffles soup and a house salad; my partner ordered the evening special, a grilled steelhead filet. While my salad was limp and uninteresting, the soup was outstanding. My partner reported that the fish was delicious; it was presented well. Happy hour was running until 7PM [unusual] and the house wins by the glass (Pinot Gris and Sangiovese) were just fine. The price was right ($45 w/tip) and we easily made our concert. The ambiance is low lighting and too-loud music. I have a hunch they are busy later in the evening. All-in-all, a positive experience.

The Remake Works

By Delmerson |

Vito's had a reputation as a run down joint until new owners renovated a few years ago. The renovation appears to have kept most of the classic restaurant and bar atmosphere intact but freshened up the offerings. The food and service are very good and reasonably priced. Well worth considering.

East meets West

By Razamataza1 |

We love little out of the way places, that the locals like to call their own. Since we did not have a lot of time to go exploring, we found this to be near our downtown hotel, so decided to give it a try. Originally from Boston, we found this to be much like the restaurants we loved in the North end of Boston. Dark and down-under, we slipped in to join the rest of the patrons enjoying wine and dinner. We loved the subtle music, but mostly the food. I had Penne Bolognese, my husband--Eggplant Parmesan, & we shared a grilled Caesar salad, which could have been a stand alone meal in itself. We look forward to dining here again when back in the area.

Excellent service, music and cocktails

By catalytic |

Birthday dinner and cocktails for a friend. The four of us raved about the cocktails and the food. The music was excellent, very good view. I asked the bartender to create a special "birthday" cocktail round for us based on general ideas (not sweet, bourbon-based, something that would pair well with what we were eating). He delivered in spades. Would definitely return again. I wish I had something comparable in Toronto.

Great find!

By Lizperr |

It's hard to find atmosphere like Vito's - a complete throwback to the 50s and 60s, and we almost expected to see the Rat Pack walk in. We weren't sure what to expect fairly early on a Sunday evening when we walked in and found the place doused in red leather, lots of wood, mirrors, and low lighting. A terrific pianist - an long-time piano bar guy - helped set the mood. Fare was standard, delicious Italian, and service was wonderful. Stephanie was knowledgeable and friendly, and overall service was right on-time but not rushed. The bill was moderate, considering that we had drinks and dessert. I wouldn't hesitate going back or meeting friends, as the experience was wonderful and it looked like lots of locals were there. Relaxing and tasty.

Late snack after long flight

By Mike-n-Matt_Trippin |

Upon recommendation of our hotel clerk, we made the short walk up the hill for a snack. Was unsure at the foyer, looked closed but certainly was open. Like stepping back into an Italian family-owned ristorante in the 1960s, there was a live jazz trio and vocalist entertaining an intimate crowd. A perfect introduction to Seattle. Drinks were fabulous, and the food on point. Pizza is traditional as you would find in Italy.

the food was great

By DaveMargs |

Arrived with six people no reservation, treated like we were regulars. The wait staff very nice, made sure we wanted nothing. Friend dropped silverware staff there before 5 second rule and replaced it. That's service.

Great Piano Bar

By Cowboy |

We went to Vito's because it was an easy walk from our hotel. The place looks a bit like a dive, but we were pleasantly surprised. We walked in at 9:50 pm and the server was very accommodating.Warm bread and butter was served up promptly. I started with a caprese salad which was made with nice greens, wonderful tomatoes and fresh mozzerella. I then ordered the gnocchi, my wife tried the cannelloni, everything was fresh and delicious. The adjoining lounge had a pianist playing a variety of pleasant music. Overall, we had a great experience and will return to Vito's again

Good portions, Fair prices, Live Music, Good ambience.

By Brayette |

Went for early dinner before Seattle Symphony performance. Ordered house salad and Caesar salad ( both very good), Fettuccine Alfredo, Chicken Parmesan, and Diavolo pasta. All meals were very good and good portions. Had the house wine and draft beer (both $4 at Happy Hour). Enjoyed the casual ambience and the live Italian music near the end of our meal. Recommend this place for early dinner!

Great People Watching, OK food and Service

By EndofNinth |

Vito's is a classic. The atmosphere has the right level of "dive" to it and there always seems to be interesting people there. The food is ok and the staff don't seem to like being in the service industry- kinda act annoyed to be getting you food and drinks. Go for the people watching/ atmosphere. A good time as long as you don't expect great food or friendly service.

This restaurant has traditional Italian fare but the unexpected part is that it appears to have gone unchanged since the '50's. You really feel like you have been transported back in time when you enter. On most nights there is a very talented piano player that entertains the room throughout the evening. They have happy hour every night from 4-7 every evening. If you are into nostalgia and good italian food then give this place a shot.

Dark and Datey....A great place for you and your boo

By thelookforless |

the place is downstairs and you honestly feel like you walk into a bygone era of the 1950s. live jazz played on Sunday night. i felt like this is probably what las vegas probably felt like in its heyday of the rat pack....it seemed like this is where the cool kids probably hung out back during that era of martinis "shaken not stirred" and sports coats. you could feel the life that used to be there and sadly it seemed as though (at least the night i was there), the life had been sucked out of the place. not that many people were there. the jazz was good. there were people either in their 20s there on dates or 55+ listening to the jazz. one server to manage the whole floor. one lady behind the bar. they did a great job though. i would come again and the food was a bit pricey but good.

Nostalgic feel

A quick visit to the Emerald City afforded us the time to catch some modern jazz with dinner. We enjoyed a great night with friends listening to a local jazz quartet and appreciated a dinner menu with something to suit everyone's tastes!

Great Italian foodwith entertainment

Vito's is a great local Italian restaurant with outstanding entertainment most nights. Pasta is fresh and gravy is wonderful.

Dimly lit Italian Restaurant

By Shanelle |

Dim Italian spot with hefty portions and live music. Walked-in on a Sunday around 7pm and snagged the one available table (everything else was for reservations). Indoor dining only. You show your vaccination card and ID at the hostess stand before being seated. Credit cards are accepted. They had a live band begin to perform starting around 8:30sh, but unfortunately we were on our way out by that point. Good spot for a date night or to catch up with a friend. The pasta alla vodka was generous in portion and our waitress provided us with an ample amount of cheese to top it. The texture of the pasta was al dente and the sauce had a good flavor. The spaghetti with meatballs is another good choice, and is similarly large in size.

Excellent Italian

Great space for dinner with a group or for a couple. The waitstaff was wonderful and knowledgeable. The pasta with meatballs is outstanding.

Our go-to near Virginia Mason

By Ken A |

For medical reasons we often come from across the state to stay near Virginia Mason Medical Center. For dinner it's a short downhill walk to Vito's, which is always relaxing, satisfying, and filling. The food is classic American/Italian done exactly right. We'll be there next week and the whole family is looking forward to the experience.

Seriously old school... and worth it

By Adam Z |

This place really does feel like it's been transplanted from the 1950s to modern - day Seattle. Great atmosphere, great food, nice staff... I took a side trip to come back here when I was in neighbouring town on business.

the last old school place on earth?

By MovinMovin |

Piano bar with 90 year old jazz player, dark lighting, red leather(?) seats, and the ability to order anything on menu made how you want. No portion control here. All fresh, albeit over-seasoned food. Its old place and a bit of a dive, but has a cult following of sorts. Prices are reasonable. I go because its very local, but there better Italian fare places to go.

Great dinner

Went here after ECCC. I called at 7 to try to get an 8pm reservation and got in. That was on a Thursday night so I recommend a reservation. We started with a rum and coke and a murder mystery cocktail, both were good and strong. I got the mushroom fettuccine which was very good but my boyfriend got the lasagna which was even better. Service was good and a nice atmosphere. It is also a 21 and over establishment.

Cozy Italian restaurant

Close to Virginia Mason. Unbelievably dark inside. Needed a flashlight to read menu. Live piano that was nice. Food fair to good. Nice service.

Good ambiance, basic Italian without surprises

By barcodeVegas |

We love trying out restaurants when we travel having a strict rule not to dine anywhere we could dine at home. In exploring Seattle, I found Vito’s about three blocks east of the Renaissance, our hotel. The restaurant is nice, the ambiance better than normal. We got there as the three-piece band was setting up. This place has been around since 1953. The food is basic Italian fare. My wife’s chicken dish was a bit spicier than she is used to having. Fair warning: do not order the Brussels sprouts they were inedible and chewy like rubber. They came with her meal but had we known she would have asked for a substitute. When we mentioned it to our server, she told us she had heard that a lot. (duh) this should be a red flag. However, she did not offer to make it right. The prices were fair and the band a jazz trio was okay. Would we go back? Due to the Brussels sprout fiasco, no we would not.

Charming Neighborhood Restaurant

By Griz90 |

Vito's is a great little neighborhood restaurant just 2 blocks north of I-5 and close to downtown hotels. Recommended by Executive Lounge at Renaissance Hotel. Quick 5 minute walk. Great food and reasonably priced. We went on a Sunday evening and enjoyed piano jazz throughout our meal. Perfect spot for a quiet, intimate dinner.

Cool pub

Vito's is a cool old style bar with live music. The band playing was very good and fitted perfectly into the bars ambiente. Prices are moderate. A reservation was not necessary, there where less people than expected and the entry was free.

Old style eating

By vicguy45 |

Went here while looking for a nice plain, solid meal. It is brilliantly old style, like something out of a movie, except all the waiters are hipsters. I enjoyed the spaghetti with meatballs. It is very dark, which made reading difficult, but that was really my only complaint.

Excellent Italian in an iconic local place

Vito’s has been around forever...it’s dark, with live Italian music and homey, delicious Italian food. It’s totally worth going, as long as you are 21 and over (no kids allowed).

Wish I lived in Seattle

By SirNose |

Yes, if I lived up here, I would certainly be a regular at Vito's. Killer selection of Amaro, Bourbon, etc, and a very inventive cocktail menu. Went in with some friends before heading out to dinner, so I didn't get a chance to eat, however the menu looked really good. Old school dishes like Veal Saltimbocca, Pamigiano and Vitello. Crab and Spaghetti, Linguini with clams and Cioppino. Main courses in the high teens and amazing cocktails with good brand name booze under $10. What really sets this place apart is the decor. With dark leather booths, mirrored walls and low ceilings, you definitely feel like you walked into an old mob speakeasy. Great music and friendly service. This place is a real winner!

Piano bar & authentic Italian fare - belissimo!

By melindae91 |

The food was A-mazing. My caprese salad was composed of gigantic ripe tomatoes and a lovely slab of mozzarella. Prawn appetizer with fresh herbs. Delish. Pianist Jerry Zimmerman played for 3 hours. Everything from Pink Floyd to show tunes. Billy Joel to Burt Bacharach. Simple and dark decor. Feels like an Italian bar from the 50s or a Godfather movie. Loved it.

Contrived

By EmeraldMoon |

My dad loves this place because of the 'mobster' feel. Personally, I thought it was beyond tired, and the food totally marginal. It is so dark that you cannot see across the table, and so loud we couldn't talk either. The menu is completely bizarre, nothing seems to fit together and they didn't even have a fresh seafood option. Maybe the Italian in me doesn't like posers, but save your money and skip this place.
