Friend's 36 Birthday Dinner

By Mrs_Sierra |

The food was good. The salmon was a little bit dry, this is what the birthday girl said. As for me, I had the Caramofongo and i loved it. We had a lot of laughs with the people that decided to ride the mechanical bull (hillarious) a good time. The DJ played mixed music mostly spanish. The only con would be it gets over crowded. Good place for adult birthday dinners.

Terrible!

By nena6769 |

I went to there for my birthday and the place was elbow to elbow crowded. There was no room to even stand around. Service was horrible, the bathroom was deplorable and the food was ok but not for the price they charge. Overall, I would not recommend this place.

Great Atmosphere

Always get the empanadas, steak and margaritas! Love this place, staff is always fantastic and the music/hookah are great

Mexican and Dominican fusion

By Thais G |

Recommended by locals, we visited Viva Toro for Sunday brunch. The brunch is a great deal, especially for NY. You get an appetizer, entree, dessert and bottomless mimosas or screwdrivers. The empanadas and calamari are excellent appetizers. The chicken & waffles and tres golpes are amazing entrees. I was full but the tres leche was so good, I ate all of it. Beyond the food, the restaurant has a club vibe with a D.J. and a mechanical bull. I strongly recommend this place if you’re in the area.

Great decor, drinks and service.

We went for dinner on a Wednesday night - had the steak, fish and chicken tacos and guacamole as an appetizer - everything was delicious. The service was excellent - wait staff checked on our table frequently throughout the night and were very friendly and ensured everything was fine. There's a mechanical bull in the back, which was being repaired at the time we visited, but it sure looked like a fun attraction and something to go back for :)

Overpriced

By Luis K B |

The place is extremely overpriced, you won't get what you pay. In other words there's plently of other good restaurants in the area that for less you will have a nice dinner or lunch. At night the place turn into a lounge, and it won't be possible for you to get any food service. Avoid going there on Friday nights long lines and horrible service. Bouncers believe they are gods in this place , so don't mess around with them if you don't want to end up in the hospital. Management take notes on that its a big issue for us the customers

One of the worst place I've been to

By Marie P |

This was a terrible place, the only okay things were the margaritas, otherwise all the food tested like no one new how to open a bag of spices. It's not really complicated food, so when you go to a restaurant and it tastes that bad (not even neutral), it irritates me! I think they think quantity instead quality. Service was okay even though they tried to rise up our bill. I do not recommend anyone to go there. We were a group of 10 with kids and none was happy with the food. Too bad, the place is huge and has potential, but to exploit it, one should start by trying the food one serves to its customers!

Fun place

By Karina |

This place has an awesome ambiance paired with a mechanical bull. The food and drinks are ok. It can be pricey, but it's always fun. They usually have the local Latin radio stations hosting parties there as well.

Great drinks!

This spot is a gem in the area. They have a mechanical bull to ride as well! Great drinks during Happy Hour!

Party Central

By Gen329 |

I had visited this establishment in the past on a Sunday afternoon but NEVER on a Friday night. SO The day after Christmas my spouse and I decided to to have dinner at here. The place was packed! After a 40 minute wait (Standing) in the crowded Bar/ entree area, we were directed upstairs. Once you reach the top of stairs the first sight to see is a Mechanical Bull ( in a restaurant? ). Dinner was good had a few appetizers only due to the time ( after 9:45 pm), they were really good. I was feeling the whole D.J. dimmed lights girls and guys taking turns on the bull while we ate experience. However, after about one (1) hour I see the tables being taken apart and converted into tall bar/ cafe tables. the lights changed from dimmed to a flashing disco type and guests started to dance while we were wrapping up our apps. In about 20 minutes this place was a CLUB...... Fog machine and all!!! I hear it's the new PARTY CENTRAL, I can do without the short dresses and sweat while I am eating. Will re-visit for BRUNCH ONLY!!!!

over priced, average food

By emcee215 |

Went here with a group of 9 so we had reservations. We were seated promptly. While looking over the menus, it was very dark and hard to read the small print. Ordered a strawberry margarita and for $12 (maybe even $10) it wasnt good at all. I can't speak on any of the other mixed drinks, but i did not enjoy mine. Service was ok, not very attentive. Had to ask for chips and salsa and with 9 people at the table, it went fast and we were not given refills. Food came out, first our appetizer, and it was ok, nothing special. Entree's came out and no one at the table was overly impressed. It's not hard to make good Mexican food, but this place was just average. With all the places nearby, and in Brooklyn in general, I would not go here again. It is very nice inside and the music was on point. They have a bull you can ride, but it's $5 a ride, which is crazy but whatever, and they will need ID, even if you look way over 18, no exceptions. The margaritas arent even that good that I'd say this would be a good place to just hang out for drinks.

Go only if you want to be disrespected.

By Juliana G |

Went on 11/12/19 to show my best friend a great time. Some co-workers recommended the place as a great place to eat and party. I have never been so disrespected in a venue. Here are all the awful things that happened: 1. The male and female security guards were overzealous in checking our small handbags. I was humiliated when the female guard touched me all over. The experience with the female guard left me with a very bitter taste. It only made the things that happened less tolerable. 2. My friend and I go in and are told there is a table available, but we can’t stay there more than an hour and 30 minutes. 3. My friend gets dirty from a filthy chair seat. 4. They take forever to bring the menu and water. Doesn’t help that we have limited time on the table. My friend and I decided to leave and go to a nearby venue called Cantina Royal, where we were treated with nothing but respect. I don’t know how the food and drinks are in the venue, but it’s not worth paying to be treated like a criminal.

Good for group brunches!

By amrisab |

I'd really rate this a 3.5 since I consider the food a little better than average, but the service and refilling speed bump that up a little! I think if I lived closer to Williamsburg I would probably come here more. I've been once for dinner and maybe 3 times for brunch. They have a pre-fixe brunch menu that's about $35 and totally worth it. They refill your drinks so fast and we usually over drink and overeat since the portions are generous, as well! It's a cool place to catch up with friends and the food is good. Not mind blowing, but it's hearty. You will be stuffed after this meal, guaranteed.

Don't waste your money!

I drove an hour from NJ to try this place and it was a complete disappointment. The only thing mexican about this place was the name. Even though they have mexican dishes on the menu it feels more like a Dominican bar. The drinks were watered down, people were constantly coming to remove things from our table which I found odd since we were still waiting for our dinner which by the way took about an hour to come out. After waiting a long time for our food we were being rushed to finish because to my surprise it turns into a nightclub and they needed to remove our table. They told us that in order to stay on a table we had to purchase a bottle service which I found extremely expensive being that we had just spent close to $400 for dinner but ok we got the bottle service but the table they gave us was a standing table and they refused to give us chairs after being promised that if we bought a bottle service we would get. Long story short the so called manager which gave us two different names Audrey and victor was extremely rude and not helpful at all. After expending over $600 at this disappointment of a place we ended up leaving because of the rude and terrible service.

A Place Where You Want To Visit

By Jay F |

Viva Toro is a lot of things. Its in a great neighborhood. I had celebrated my sisters bday at viva toro and it was an amazing experience. Bottle service was excellent. Affordable and fast. The food there is GREAT!!!!!! They have a mechanical bull rider which is a lot of fun especially when you have a few drinks in hahaha :) great spanish crowd, music is great, a lot of space to dance if you like to dance, the place is nice and cozy and well air conditioned, bottom line, its a great place to be. If you wanna hang out with friends or even with family, i highly recommend viva toro. Please go try it out and let me know what you think. Thanks.

Great family place! And awesome music!

We took my boyfriend here as a surprise for his birthday and he loved it!! It was a bit crowded but that only means the food is really great! We loved our food and the service was awesome. They really made my boyfriend feel special on his day. After 11pm it turns into a 21+ lounge scene. They have awesome bottle specials and hookah available. It was literally the best of ideas. Highly recommended if anyone wants to knock two birds with one stone. Def worth the time and the money!!!!

Wish we discovered this sooner

We had a late reservation for another restaurant when we decided to try Viva Toro for a quick appetizer and a beer. From the moment we tried our nachitos, we had regrets we actually had a reservation at another place. So good! We'll definitely come back here.

Good food

By Alex M |

Came here for a friend's birthday party. We couldn't sit, until we were all there, although our table was setup, and we can put our jackets on the chairs...so that kind of didn't make sense. Service was ok, the waitress seemed slightly overwhelmed. Food was good though, and drinks were excellent.

Great food and drinks

We were in Brooklyn to bring my daughter to college. Our hotel recommended this restaurant. It has really good Mexican food!!!!

Poor customer service

By Momic888 |

I went there with my friend girl because she had some other friends that had been there and heard it was a fun place. We weren't acknowledged when we entered so we walked upstairs and asked a waitress if the mechanical was operable. She ignored the question and asked if we were at least going to sit and buy drinks. We were there for dinner and drinks we told her and she seemed impatient. The manager was introduced to us after we said we were referred to his restaurant and he was rude and didn't seem to care. And just sat us at a table that was already occupied. We waited for a table to be ready as they had most of the section closed off. Our waiter and buss boy were very attentive and polite. They answered questions about the menu eagerly. That part of the service was great. The food was good. I ordered chicken empanadas and chicken flautas ... They were small in size but very good. I wasn't to excited about the avocado fries though. Their drinks were horrible. After our first drinks, the bar girl had said she put everything away (11pm) so all she would serve were frozen drinks. Their bottles of liquor just sit on the shelf right behind her....so it's not out of reach... :/ Don't get the green 'mojito' drink ..it's gross.! The atmosphere was fun because the customers got together and encouraged each other when the manager decided to let people use the bull for a little while. That's $5....... Maybe it was just a bad night...or maybe the manager is a jerk every night. I don't know. I will not go back to find out!

VERY FUN NIGHT

By Dalia M |

I had a party of 12 to celebrate my god daughters birthday. The food is very good and the drinks are as well. They have a mechanical bull wich adds to the fun. I believe its 15.00 to ride the bull. If you get the pre-fix menu the bull ride is free. The DJ was awesome he played everything even old school music. The best advice I give is they have a happy hr of $5 drinks (that is only at the bar!) if you get a table upstairs the drinks will be regular price. It is quite a distance I did not see public transportation in site, so it is best to drive no MTA...This is great for couples, friends, family and parties just researve your table. Best appetizer is the PINONO.....Enjoy

STAY AWAY FROM VIVA TORO

By Jennifer H |

DO NOT COME HERE. SERVICE : NON EXISTENT We had a birthday RSVP for 8pm. We did not get seated and order our food until close to 11pm. This resturant turns into a "club" at night so they were moving chairs and tables while we were still eating! They could not accomdate us because we were a group of 7 ppl and they only have small tables for like 2 or 4 ppl. WHAT THEY SHOULDVE DONE IS PUT TWO SMALL TABLES TOGETHER TO SEAT OUR LARGE TABLE. Instead they kept taking in small groups of 2 or 4 parties. The girl at the front who takes down names is a dumb broad. She did not know how long we will have to wait, she did not know how many large tables they had upstairs. she did not know how they manage to take in so many ppl that came in AFTER US who did not have RSVPS. The only thing she knew how to do was go wash her hair after a parton who was seated upstairs accidently spilled a drink all over her. FOOD: ONLY REASON I DIDNT THROW A FIT INSIDE THE RESTAURANT The food here is actually good. They have good chefs as opposed to their horrible service. BUT THEN AGAIN I would NEVER come back here to give them another dime. Their only attraction is their mechanical bull, $5 to get throw of it in 10 seconds because the douche who controls it cannot stand to let riders stay on the bull for a pleasant 1 minute. SPEND YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Big Disappointment

By TeeMa J |

Never, ever should my calamari be soggy. Never, ever should it take more than 2 minutes for me to be acknowledged at the bar when it is NOT crowded. I waited 6 minutes. Very unacceptable. Highly doubt I'll be returning.

Great steak

This place is a bit small, but the food is great and the drinks are even better. They have a mechanical bull and it's super funny to watch the guests get on it. The music is also good and they often have live Latin bands perform.

we loved it!

Very friendly staff, the food was good(specially the guacamole), loved the drinks. Everything was great!

Celebrated a birthday @ Viva Toro.

By AdvisingTripperNYC |

We all came here as a family to celebrate my brothers birthday and we all haf a grrat time. The food was very good, the customer service was excellent and the DJ had a nice mix of music. This is a mexican restaurant, you can expect the spanish music to be playing (we didn't mind, we liked it) Their passion fruit frozen margaritas were very good. The prices were mid range. We ordered guacamole for starters (very good), plantains that came with a white sauce (AMAZING Sauce 😍). Shrimp with yellow rice was my choice of dinner and it was very tasty. The bulldog drink is a great choice if youre looking for a nice drink (frozen margarita with a corona on top of it). Highly recommend checking out this mexican restaurant.
