Cute little Taqueria

By Kathryn L |

Friendly place in the market with indoor and outdoor seating. The decor is original and is a family friendly place. It is tucked away in a corner along side the street.

TACO HEAVEN

By BKB7315 |

Their pineapple pork street tacos are what dreams are made of💜🌮. We have never been disappointed!!

Great food, not enough tables.

By ecfontenot |

The food was delicious, and the counter style ordering gets you through the line quick. This is where the problem begins...nowhere to sit. All tables were full and the patio isn't enclosed. So on a windy 40 degree night we weren't going to brave the patio. We finally snagged a 4 top for our party of 5 after waiting 30 minutes.

Disappointed

By Rachel D |

Poor customer service, short staffed, barely given the time of day by any employee (not even a "we'll be with you in a moment"), and had to wait 20 minutes at the bar to have our appetizers order taken with a less-than-half-full restaurant. We were told we could only order appetizers. Ordering 3 appetizers for a family of 5 at 5:30 pm in a largely empty place should not have taken so long. Very disappointed. Will not return.

Good food, and good alternative to avoid the other restaurant's crowds.

By Norma D |

We visited San Antonio on Spring Break, 2019 - We stop at this place for a late lunch, nice atmosphere, not crowded, restaurant is in very good condition, well kept and clean, nicely decorated. All food tasted very good, but as other review states, it is a bit pricey for the serving size, if you are a good eater and looking for a enchilada plate with generous sides, you might be disappointed. My young daughter ordered a "Virgin Piña Colada" from the kids menu, yummy! Staff members are nice. Good experience overall.

Excellent atmosphere, food and reasonably priced!

By Adriana R |

Excellent atmosphere, food and reasonably priced! This is my first visit to Viva Villa, on a fun Fiesta Sunday in San Antonio, Texas. I’ve been here one week, relocating to this amazing city. Viva Villa’s staff is friendly and professional. They quickly accommodated an elderly friend that was with me, the food presentation is colorful and delightful. Food is well prepared, tasty and affordable. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Quite good, better than expected.

By Andrew Rodney |

We wanted to eat near our hotel on our first night here, saw this large complex of stores and restaurants nearby. Friday night at 6:30, the wait to get into Margaritas was 40 minutes so we tried Viva Villa instead. Then we learned all the restaurants in the complex are owned by the same people. Anyway the taco’s were quite good and that’s coming from a fellow who lives in a town that has great taco’s. We were somewhat in the mood for adventure so we tried the Ceviche and it was far better than expected with lots of tender fish (tilapia), and a lovely pineapple salsa. My wife and I both had the Tacos De Mexico which come with two each selections of tacos. We decided to try four different kinds: The Cochinita Pibil (roared pig) was actually superb and our favorite. As good as I’ve tried anywhere. We had the Brisket Taco which was our second fav and it was also very good. Next up was Fish Taco’s. Pretty good, not the best by far (Oscars in San Diego is the place for those) but certainly respectable. The Pancho with Chicken was a bit on the bland side, but good. Adding some of the supplied salsa that came with the chips helped. We got two kinds of beans; Refried and Charro, I think the Refried were a bit more successful. By the time we finished, the place was packed. Service was excellent (Isabella was lovely and helpful), the kitchen was quick to serve our food. The prices were reasonable for the quality and amount of food serviced, we had no room or desire for desert. So considering we stumbled on this place, I can say our expectations were more than met. I’m giving this place a 4.5 out of 5 stars overall.

Wow!!

By Jackiechard |

This was our 1st time here, and if we would ever travel this way again, we would definitely make this a must stop! The tacos were fresh, the Mexican corn was Amazing, and the service was top notch!! The prices also were extremely wallet friendly!

Not a good choice

By bacrowe |

1/1/2020 Mi Tierra was a 2hr wait so we waited 30 mintues for this place out of desperation. We can't understand why there was a wait since there were at least 3 tables available. I must say the restrooms were clean. But we should have know the food would not be that could when we say the chips(looked and tastes like they were from a bag) and the salsa( straight from a jar and not that great). They got my order wrong twice and if it wasn't for being able to see the open grill from our seats I would have ordered NOTHING since I was still on the wait list for La Margarita. Our server was nice and that's about it. My food was not that great and my husband said his fajitas was just ok. What a DISAPPOINTMENT!!!

"Terrible Tourist Taco Taqueria!"

By Jann F |

It's one of about four restaurants in a place called Market Square. It's someones concept of Mexican tacos that fails to deliver. It is ALL self serve which does not save you $ by not paying servers. The selection of beers was good but there wasn't anyone there to serve you. Four men were drinking beers and said the bartender comes and goes. She was apparently doing double duty because she was also the cashier. First you order your taco and there are a million questions that go with placing your order. Then you proceed down the line and choose whatever else you want to eat. The ingredients have been made in advance and who knows how long they have been sitting out. I have NEVER been in a Mexican restaurant that does not have chips and salsa for you after you sit down before your meal arrives. Well, here, you can order them but you also get to pay for them! There were no instructions about how this place works and I was a little pissed off because the help was few and far between. The wait staff knew that I was not enamored with the place, service or concept and one server immediately said I could talk with the manager. A young woman came out and offered no help whatsoever but reiterated the concept. She delivered a bowl of chips and salsa and kindly told us they they "usually" charge for it. Well, they SHOULD be giving it away for free. The salsa was some of the worse I have ever eaten! They do deliver your food to the table but you have to have picked up your knife, fork and napkins before you sit down. The salsa for the tacos is available IF you know what to look for and you put it in little plastic containers and then put a top on it and take it to your table. The staff is very young. The man making the meat for the taco on the stove was older. They didn't appear to be overstaffed because there was hardly anyone in this huge restaurant. Now I know why!!! We ordered 2 El Pancho Chicken tacos (2 @ $3.50 ea), side of refried beans and rice (no flavor at all), Baja fish taco which just included one piece of fish that looked unappetizing and pickled red cabbage slaw, 1 soda and 1 Dos XX (small). The total bill came to $21.27. How stupid am I to pay $20. for three tacos?! We are on our way to San Miguel de Allende and are staying overnight in San Antonio. I can only hope the food is better in SMA. They sell street food at the Market Square and you should avail yourself of that and by all means PASS on the Viva Villa Taqueria! What a waste of my time, energy and it did nothing to relieve the stress of a five hour drive to San Antonio. I give this place a total thumbs down!

Service was a bit slow.

By 1RaiderFan |

We were expecting just a bit more....food was decent. I recommend the tacos Al Pastor and the Mexican street corn. Margaritas were on point.

Newest Restaurant in Market Square

By Wesley C |

All of the restaurants in Market Square are owned by the same family. Viva Villa is their newest creation. Fast casual Mexican restaurant specializing in tacos, tortas, enchiladas, etc. I wanted a light dinner before the game. Had the Alambre Torta (Grilled carne asada, grilled onions, poblano peppers, bacon, melted cheese and our special poblano crema). It was very good & exactly what I was looking for. Better quality food and cheaper prices than stadium food.

San Antonio Vacation

By cynthiakovatch |

Really delicious and flavorful food! Very reasonable prices. We were there for lunch and left full and happy. Their homemade balsamic vinaigrette dressing is the best I have had. The sandwiches were so big we couldn’t finish them all. Authentic Mexican flavor. Great and very accommodating wait staff.

Delicious!

By Hillary W |

If you're anywhere downtown San Antonio or in the Marketplace area you must try the Viva Villa Tacqueria. The owner and the staff are so kind, the food is fresh and healthy and everything is modifiable to fit your health needs. I recommend this to anyone going to San Antonio.

Exceptionally good Mexican food

By Sachin K |

This restaurant serves exceptionally good Mexican food. The Salsa and Nachos are freshly made and have a unique appetizing aroma. Conveniently located near the market square area, this restaurant has a unique ambiance. Service is extremely courteous and food is authentic Mexican and delicious. Pricing is reasonable. Would very highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the market square area in San Antonio.

Cold Tacos, Hot Restaurant, HARD Seats

By Robert M |

Sunday evening the place was not busy... so you’d expect HOT food - but instead the tacos were lukewarm and the thin corn tortillas wouldn’t hold the contents - they fell apart. It was a beautiful evening - outdoors. But inside it was uncomfortable and too warm. To top it off, the chairs have hard wood seats - very uncomfortable after a few minutes. The service was very good, but next time we will go someplace else.

Great eats.

By Maricela G |

I love this place. The food is amazing and the whole concept is creative. Fun food presentation and located in the famous San Antonio Market Square. The bathrooms are sooooo beautiful.

Ok food. Poor service

By flori-texan |

Waited 15 minutes at the bar getting ignored. Essentially service is non existent even though the place isn't full. Might give it another try another time...might not.

36 degrees outside and had the larrge window open.

By Frank V |

We went in for a drink, sat at the bar and they opened a large window when it was 36 degrees outside. Needless to say, we finished our drink and left...Unbelievable

Must stop

By kathmcg |

This little spot in market square is a must dine! Dont expect big, commercial plates of Mexican food. This is big flavor, upscale plating at reasonable prices. Ordered al pastor mini tacos, corn truffle quesadilla and sopas. Everything was absolutely delicious. Cute place, friendly staff. Will be on our revisit list!

Great food!!

By Teri B |

We were planning to eat at Mi Tierra but the wait was very long. We decided to see what else we could find. We ran across this place and glad we are here instead. Very helpful with ordering questions. Be sure and try the prime rib tacos. They're excellent. They sell the sides separate so be sure and ask for them. The cashier wasn't helpful in up selling anything. We even forgot to order chips and salsa and she never asked if we wanted any. Great selection of craft beers and have regular soft drinks as well. We received great service and the food was fabulous. Street tacos, great selection of meat. Highly recommend.

Awful Visit

By ali_b_slim |

We popped into Viva Villa for a drink. After waiting for ages the waitress took my order followed by 2 other people's order which she then filled before seeing to my order. When I complained she had a bad attitude and said "what can she do they are short staffed". Obviously she doesn't know about customer care After ordering drinks I wanted to order something to take away so I order street tacos. On ordering it seemed there were only 2 or 3 orders in front of mine but we waited approx 20 mins before I got up and complained and told them if didn't come in the next 5 mins I was going to cancel. When the food eventually arrived I was offered a free ice cream as compensation. I got back to my hotel to enjoy my long awaited dinner but it was absolutely disgusting and I only ate one taco out of hunger and threw the remainder (4) in the bin. This has to be one of the worst experiences ever and I would suggest you avoid it with a barge pole.

Trying something new

By Kevin N |

Good tacos, but a little pricey (to be expected in Market Square). Not too crowded and found a table fairly quickly. Close to downtown.

Mango Margaritas

By PaBirddog |

Stopped here for a quick drink. Mango Margaritas very refreshing and smooth. Outdoor & indoor seating available

Pancho taco was great

By Bill L |

My wife and I enjoy and appreciate the three long-time Cortez family restaurants downtown. Now they added a fourth and, waiting several months for everything to get normalized, we tried Viva Villa (revolutionary) Tacos last night. She had brisket. I had steak Pancho (it also comes in chicken) and we shared a fish taco. The fish taco was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. The beef tacos were incredible! We eat lots of tacos in San Antonio (we had very good puffy tacos for lunch today, away from downtown). We both think Viva Villa makes the best ever. We are not natives, but we've been here for over 35 years. From now on we will head for Viva Villa whenever he visit El Mercado. Mi Tierra is now #2.

Viva los tacos !!

By rodriguezjesser65 |

The mini street style tacos are so delicious, you gotta try them if you go there. If you do get the asada ones their the best ones. With an ice cold pina colada

Not Recommend For Breakfast

By Jlvargas1121 |

I first heard of this place through Instagram and let me tell you the food looked delicious! So I convinced my husband to go, the parking situation is not great since it shares a parking lot with Mi Tierra and that place is always packed. It's kinda small inside but had a great look to it. The menu is hanging from the ceiling and you get in line to order the. The food is taken to your table. The place was completing empty, and it took the staff about 10 minutes to acknowledge us. We finally ordered the chilaquiles plate, a torta, 2 drinks and a Girl Scout candy thing they make out of Samoa Cookies. It was roughly $28 and for that price we were expecting something great. It was mediocre at best. The plate was very small with not much flavor and the torta I could have made at home and it would have been better. It was all incredibly bland and a huge disappointment. I may try it for dinner and drinks one day but I doubt it. Not worth it.

Nice little joint

By Ricardo R |

The place itself was really good. Nice location, wide variety in food and drinks. The tacos are really good. I had the 5 mini Tacos am Pastro and they were on point. My friends had the regular tacos, they ate all of their food so I'm assuming it was good. The only reason I'm giving this a 4/5 is their Tres Leche was really bad. Tres Leche is my favorite dessert but this was just a dry cake with some of the "leches" on the bottom. Other than that food was good which is guess is the most important part.

Amazing street tacos- great staff-atmosphere

By Chuck N |

Excellent food and service. Very cool bar and atmosphere. Outside seating weather permitting. Easy walk from Riverwalk Market Square.

Amazing!

By Laurel M |

Very different then any Mexican I've tried during my time living in the south. I decided to try the pork street tacos with pineapple onion and cilantro, and it was to die for! Staff was accommodating and the outside seating was superb. It's slightly off of the main mart street, so it was less crowded and a breath of fresh air. Defiantly try their selection of frozen margaritas!

A Very Good Lunch and Excellent Service......

By pparrothead |

My wife and I recently visited San Antonio for vacation and headed over to the Mercado/Market Square area for shopping and lunch. There are many shops and a few restaurants in the Mercado. We decided on Viva Villa after having a problem and walking out of La Margarita restaurant...And we are both glad we did. Our server was Ciro and he was helpful, polite, and very attentive...The inside of Viva Villa was attractive and very clean. Plus you can watch the cooks preparing the meals right in front of you...I really liked the way the restaurant was decorated and their slogan, "Revolutionary Tacos For the People"....Poncho Villa would have been proud....:) We ordered a couple of beers, Dos Equis and a Bud Light and our meals were the Tacos de Mexico Pancho with chicken and rice and beans and the Chicken Mini Tacos (4)... Both were well prepared and very tasty.... Our drinks were both large and cold and the chips and salsa was also good. All in all we both liked and would recommend Viva Villa Tacqeria to anyone in the Mercado area of San Juan.

The way Tacos should be!

By mtaylor1118 |

My wife and I stumbled upon this place on our way to Mi Tierra, we are both Taco fans so decide to try it. We were more than impressed. Price was right, the food was on point. Definitely a new favorite.

Best Taco!!

By Carlsbadhappy |

This restaurant is in the old Market Square about 4 blocks off of the Riverwalk in downtown. We wanted to try a restaurant out of the very touristy part of the Riverwalk and found this place. Viva Villa had an attractive outdoor patio plus a rather basic indoor eating area. You stand in line to order your food at a counter. Service at the ordering counter was rather slow but they were training a new employee so maybe that is not typical. Your food is delivered to you but there is a self-serve salsa setup and you get your own utensils, etc. They serve beer and wine-based cocktails at but no drinks with hard liquor. Prices were very reasonable. I had a taco with chicken, Mexican cheese, and pinto beans that was probably the best taco I have ever eaten! That coming from a life long resident of Southern California! My husband ordered a trio of carne asada street tacos and they were good but not great. This place was a perfect respite from the expensive , crowded eateries along the downtown Riverwalk and I would recommend a visit. Plus enjoy the old Market Square shops while there.

Great food!

By Steve W |

I had the Chicken Mole and it was fabulous. Enjoyed my lunch so much I went back for dinner for Fish Tacos.

Excellent service and food

By Mike N |

This place is authentic. Home made tortillas, excellent beans, savory grilled sweet corn with queso, and amazing salsa! I enjoyed the pineapple carnitas that also had very nice flavor. The ambiance outside on the patio was perfect with some sounds of Mexico in the background. Service was courteous and fast. I will be back for sure!

Goat Rope comes to mind!

By Darrell H |

Ordering our lunch meal was confusing, made worse because it is Mexican A La Carte. We gave our order with some effort, then a young girl walked up to the man we gave the order to, and he repeated it to her. In the order was chips & salsa (not free). He pointed to where I would get the salsa and the chips were to be brought to me. So my wife got our drinks and a table, I got the salsa and placed the number on a small stand on our table. Chips didn't come. While waiting for the chips, we noticed the guy delivering the food kept going to wrong tables and asking if 'this food was theres"? We were wondering, what is the purpose of placing numbers on our tables? Strange. Finally, tired of waiting I went to the same guy and asked if he was going to bring our chips. He said he would but we had to pay for them first. I told him I did pay for them, but the receipt wasn't itemized, so you really couldn't tell. He came back and said I didn't pay for them. So, wanting chips, I went back up to the cashier and told her I had ordered chips but didn't get them. She said that will be $2.71. So, now a bit irritated, I just paid it. With no word, she disappeared and left me standing. So I went to the guy and said when you bring my chips, will you bring me the receipt. Starting for my seat, she reappears with my chips. Due to all this mess, I asked her for my receipt. My wife had Veggie Taco, I had the Fish Taco, beans & rice, and roasted squash. Portions are quite small, and everything we had was very bland, almost as if it was straight our of a can. We could not find any salt or pepper to doctor it up. My fish taco had the piece of breaded cod, a few pieces of cold cold slaw, and cold raw onions, and that was it. This was the worst fish taco I've ever had anywhere to be frank. The salsa was very good, maybe exceptional, and they have a few different flavors. But overall, San Antonio has much better options, especially at their price point. The only reason I gave it the second star; it was maybe the cleanest restaurant I've ever been in which is important to me. But then again, there was very little business during what should have been a busy lunch rush. I'm sorry, but on this day, two stars is a stretch, and four stars is way to high for this very clean restaurant, unless you just want chips & salsa, but beware, there are not many chips in one order, about enough for one person only.

Flavors galore!

By cedar4604 |

Did not want to wait for a table in a sit down restaurant, and saw this tacqueria with fewer people in it. We loved the food. There were two couples and we ordered only two orders of the meat that comes in little skillets with tortillas on the side. Ran out of tortillas but had plenty of meat, so we ordered more tortillas and kept eating! The employees were so helpful in picking out which meats to choose. They gave us samples and told us their favorites. No rush. We don't go to San Antonio very often, but when we do, it is always with international guests who want to see all the tourist sites. This will definitely be on our agenda for the next trip into town!

Enjoyable

By jybarra75 |

Viva Villa is a great place to grab a drink while you are in the Mercado. They have a great draft beer selection and their mangonada is delicious. The patio is a great place to enjoy food, drinks, and socializing.

STREET TACOS

By BKB7315 |

The grilled pineapple and pork tacos are hands down the absolute best tacos EVER! I love everything about this place!

Great food, great service and reasonable prices!

By Denise K |

What a pleasant surprise to find this place in Market Square! The tacos were really good, and we enjoyed dining al fresco on the patio. They even brought ice cream and sang Happy Birthday to my husband! To top it off, they thanked us for coming and invited us back again soon! How refreshing! I highly recommend Viva Villa!

Refreshing Happy

By Hobnail |

After looking about the Market Square, stumbled in to Revolution Tacos and was warmly greeted. Great food, although some may say not "accurate", but I was delighted and satisfied. Good selection of beers and knowledgeable servers. Something for everyone. Price is actually lower than than the tourist normal. Good atmosphere. Saw families seated and seemed to be working well. Menu has many different items that I would have wanted to try. Perhaps next time. Service was fast and accurate. They seem to help one another out when needed. Recommended!

Good tacos but pricier than “cheap eats”

By JulietheCruiseDir |

Walked here from Riverwalk area while attending a conference. Very good charro beans and good tacos and a nice atmosphere with the game on but not monopolizing the place with sports. A taco plate and soda were $14.00 together which I should have expected since in the Marketplace District. Would recommend if in the area but nothing locals would go to for food alone.

Much better than I had anticipated

By Jon S |

We had a walk away lunch and one of my coworkers dragged us down to a place that he had had some luck with. I ordered 2 of the chicken tacos with an iced tea. The iced tea was great. Fresh brewed and super strong. As it should be. The chicken tacos were great. They had fresh made corn tortillas with melted cheese, tasty chicken, and an avocado. I added a little bit of salsa from the the salsa bar to top it off. I loved it. Everyone that was working there was very friendly and helpful. Pricing was about $10 for my 2 tacos and iced tea. This is not a waiter service place. You walk up to a counter, place your order and pay, and then they deliver the food to you.

Mexican, Mexicon Not, But good Texmex

By Rogelio5150 |

At first i look at the menu ans it was not what i was expecting, but since the place was nice and clean i decide to give it a try, and it was good,,the tortillas were delicious , i tried both corn and flour,, the beef fajitas and the chicken fajitas taco that are called Pancho Special, pancho pollo and adelita were good, MUCH BETTER than Taco bell or taco cabana,,

Overpriced

By Gemma S |

Food was nice, but overpriced for the serving size. The cocktails were nice, but very weak. Servers nice.

A Unique, Funky little Sit Down Taco Joint

By SledMan |

Near the Mercado, a fun little place that serves a variety of great tacos, there is a also a full bar with several beers on tap. Service is very good, ample indoor seating. Great food.

Good food

By TexasGal1227 |

Came across Viva Villa when we were looking for a place to have a late dinner. The tacos were really good. We had an order of mini tacos, chips & cheese and lemonade. They have a variety to choose from. I do recommend it only if you order the tacos. Lemonade is fresh but it was too sweet and the chips are good but the cheese not so much. Ask for sautéed onions for the tacos. Overall it was a good meal if you're looking for a place to have dinner after 9pm.

Not terrible

By jaic.tx |

Visited this place last weekend. Good service and ok food. Not what I was hoping for but edible. Cant say I'd never go again.

Delicious and unique tacos!

By 308jennifer |

This is my favorite restaurant in Market Square! The pork street tacos and the rib-eye panela cheese tacos are amazing! Also looks like a nice bar for the evening.

Not Good

By Anne |

Wow of all the amazing food in San Antonio I would NOT add this place to the list. The service was so so bad! We waited for a good hour, no idea why because the place was not full. Then we waited for our drinks, two of them never came at all. The server had no clue what he was doing. We all go street tacos, a table of 4, we waited for our food for close to an hour and then it was cold? I was at a loss. Seriously don't waste your time on this place.

The food was incredible!!

By Sanantexas |

We stumbled into this unimposing looking taqueria during the Fiesta celebration at Market Square in San Antonio, TX....and boy am I glad we did! The atmosphere was comfortable and inviting, the staff, and our waiter Michael were welcoming, helpful, and friendly, despite having to deal with the large fiesta crowds! And the food....well, the food was possibly some of the best Mexican food I have ever eaten! The Cortez family has done it again!

Confusing but fun

By thefixerfixer |

Came on a Friday night live music you know if we see herself or had to wait to be seated so we took it upon herself just to go to the bar food was plentiful and very good had a great bartender she took very good care of us the music was a little loud inside so we were dining outside was definitely good

Very good!

By Melinda F |

Salsa is fire-roasted with a little heat. We really liked the green, avocado salsa the best. Tacos were extremely tasty and well worth the price. My husband enjoyed an Alamo beer on tap and I had a frozen sangria. Very good, would definitely recommend.

Took out of state friends to eat Mexican Food and have drinks

By Cat M |

Wanted to have a drink here while waiting for out table to be ready at the restaurant next door. Very disappointed, was closed. No sign or message.

Stick with the tacos. Avoid the refried beans.

By Michele W |

We tried a variety of tacos. They were so good we went for seconds! Pancho de Pollo and Brisket taco was my fav. Not a fan of their refried beans though. Tasted like they came from a can.

Great tacos!

By Tommie Sue M |

I needed a quick lunch and they obliged: two chicken tacos on wheat tortillas with fresh guacamole....plus chips and salsa.

Nice experience, a little different, worth trying

By AlnStel |

Saw it advertised on the morning news, decided to give it a try. Overall, our experience was very good. Very nice ambience, although seating was a little tight. We hoped to get a booth, but there was only about three of them, and they were all taken. But the weather was gorgeous, so we opted to sit out on the patio. We went during the week, after the lunch rush. All of the staff were extremely courteous and helpful. Ordering is cafeteria style, but you're given a number and your food is brought to your table when ready. I ordered a local draft beer and a strawberry margarita for the wife. Lunch was a variety of different tacos to share. We really enjoyed everything, maybe with a small exception of the tacos "al pastor". The meat was diced so small, it dried out and was a little tough. The ribeye taco and baja fish taco stood out above the rest. Having lived in Southern California, we spent time traveling through Baja and LOVED sampling the varieties of street food. It was usually very affordable and delicious. So of course, this food seemed well overpriced, but of course you are paying for the prime tourist location and nice atmosphere. We probably will go back when we're in the area, it's worth giving it a try.

Just Ok!

By Kathy C |

Our experience started with a hostess who was not happy to see us. We had to sit outside and wait for a table (lunch) for about 45 minutes. When we were finally seated service was very slow not sure if they were short staffed or if it is always like this. The tacos were just ok. I wouldn't visit again.

great recommendation and we went back twice!

By Nancy M |

On our way to check out Market Square a local told us about his favorite spot! THANK GOODNESS! Best tacos ever and Ryan, the manager, gave us personal service which exceeded five star restaurants. Beer flight is worth doing so you can pick your favorite brew for your next visit...ours was two days later. Couldn't get on the plane home without another five street tacos from here!

Delicious Lunch

By Peggy044 |

My girlfriend and I decided to have lunch here while visiting downtown. I mentioned that I had seen it online. She had enchiladas and I had tacos. Both of our meals were good. Our meal included a drink and ice cream. I would recommend this restaurant for lunch for sure.

Good place for tacos.

By Olsalt1 |

This place was recommended and it turned out to be the best place that was recommended to us. the pork street tacos are phenomenal. but watch the sauces they are hot hot hot.

Really Great Food

By KrystalElizabeth |

I would highly recommend coming here for dinner! The mini street tacos are delicious. We also loved the cheese fondue with chorizo. Staff was very friendly and service was fast. We will definitely come back here.

My daughter and I ate here

By Scott K |

My daughter and I ate here today. Food was fantastic. Fresh, hot and quite tasty. Fresh Mexican food. Not spicy. Clean tasting food. Even the iced tea was great. I had beef enchiladas and a fajita taco. Daughter had grilled chicken breast with Avacado and beans. Priced right for the food.

AMAZING TACOS!!!

By Marcos C |

By far one of the best locations for tacos in San Antonio! I have seen many taqueria locations in San Antonio, but Viva Villa is one unique location! The different flavors make it a place you will want to go to over and over again and make sure you try all the tacos!

Viva Villa Taqueria, the home of Revolutionary Tacos.

By surelyacollectible |

Spent a weekend downtown to discover our city. Found this great taco restaurant at El Mercado. You walk in and look at the menu (which is somewhat difficult to figure out what the meals are). I ordered the Alhambra ... thought it was a bit expensive but it it huge. LOTZ of beef with bacon. There were five small corn tortillas that I used to make tacos. I don't usually like corn but these were relish. They offer two avocado sauces - one is REALLY hot with jalepeno.....My picture was taken AFTER eating...it was to delish to stop eating and take a picture...Check the Yelp site for a great picture of the Alhambra.. Newly opened; clean; very helpful staff....

Get in from the cold

By Brichford |

We came on a cold wintry day so getting a chance to sit inside and enjoy some street tacos was a pleasure. Nice al pastor although I prefer my onions chopped really small like food trucks. Guacamole is excellent. Beer is ice cold but my wife's mango Margarita was not good... almost candy-like. Still, Viva Villa was welcome from the chaos "around the corner" (same owners?)

The other Mexican restaurant at the Market Square

By Cathy A |

We visited San Antonio the weekend of Mardi Gras 2019 and there were the usual crowds and wait times at the restaurants, however, we stopped in Viva Villa for a quick bite. No wait time here. We had the appetizer nachos and the Mexican corn. Both were delicious. The corn was on the cobb so it was a bit messy. Viva’s margarita was also very refreshing. Keep in mind that the Market Square is a tourist destination. Next time we visit the Market Square, we will definitely come back and avoid the crowds.

Lots of fun on a Wednesday night

We popped in for a quick marguarita during happy hour and stayed for dinner. Did not know that it was Bingo night which was fun and we won a prize. Staff were super friendly and prices were good.

Food much better than the Cheap Eats Restaurant Appearance.

By Traflagar |

The food was fabulous. Menu is many taco style dishes & in more Spanish than we were familiar with but the servers are very helpful. You line up & order but it is brought out to your table. They serve wine & beer. The wine is pricey for the establishment. It looks cheap eats. We had no trouble with seating at 2 pm on a Saturday. Would recommend for the food.

Best Tacos Ever

By Ron J |

The best taco's I have ever had. They offer up a ribeye steak taco that just plain melts in your mouth. I also found the brisket as well as the chicken taco to be wonderful. The service can be slow at times but the wait is more than worth it. Atmosphere is nicely casual but welcoming.

What a gem!

We stopped in here on our last trip to San Antonio and we absolutely loved this place. The vibe in here was so relaxed and fun and we had a blast. The tacos and queso fundido were amazing and we would come here probably once a month if it was closer to home. It's a shame to see that they've temporarily closed due to the pandemic and I hope they can reopen soon!

Lunch hour walk thru

By Melissa F |

I went there today and I was very impressed with the decor and the ambience. Lets keep in mind that we went during our lunch hour and it was not busy at all, which was a good thing for us. But I can only imagine how busy it will be during Fiesta and during Summer time. The food is a little bit pricey but considering it is like gourmet then its an okay price. Unlike La Gloria that it is very pricey for small tapas-like food. I was very satisfied with what I ate, I had the carnitas in salsa verde and a side of rice, it came with tortillas, pretty decent size. Oh yea and I had coconut 3 leches cake. They also have big red soft serve, which I will try next time because I will be back. I recommend this place.

What a cool idea... Revolution Tacos food for the people. Amazing food and services. The staff is very attentive to all of your needs. My two fish tacos were like so fresh and it seems like if it was part of the catch of the day. Totally recommend this place.

Best place in the Market Square

By Michelle H |

I tried the other two, La Margarita and Mi Tierra and this one was the best, even though I heard they were all affiliated. I had the chicken street tacos with charro beans. So great! It might look like a small meal, but it was very filling, tasty and would order it again. Salsa is the very best I've had. I really could not believe this place was the least busy of the three restaurants. If you walk by it, don't judge it by that, go in, and have an amazing meal!

Great Tacos

By 2adventurers2 |

We had lunch on a recommendation from a local. We had fish tacos (the best I've eaten) and a plate of street tacos. Everything was delicious with nice presentation. People walked in for carry outs as it was lunchtime. We would highly recommend this little restaurant when near the Marketplace.

Very good food and service, recommended

We love the Market Square but on Sunday, the long lines at other eating places put us off, so this time, we walked around and found this delightful "tacqueria". There were 7 of us, and we ordered a wide variety of dishes. The two desserts that we ordered were large enough for several people. The food was well prepared, and the service excellent.

Stopped for lunch. The menu is a bit confusing, but the staff were great working me through. Good food, good beers on tap, outside patio to watch the world. What more is needed?

Stopped by for lunch. Reasonably good food. Great service. Music is very loud and not Mexican music.

Kicked out never to return

By Lois T |

We had approx. 16 people in our group. We did not care if we all sat together. One employee said they were short of help and could not seat us. We said we are ok not to sit together. There was plenty of empty tables. After standing in line for a while. (You have to order at counter). The employee came over and asked us to go outside because the noise was to loud. We were not being loud. There was know one in line ahead of us. We all turned around and left for good. Rude. They lost some big bucks.

Basic Mexican food

I love Mexican food, and here again I was disappointed. Too bad really, I liked the open kitchen where you can see the cooks preparing Tacos and fajitas: and it is true they were busy...too much maybe, so the service was very slow. 25 minutes for our tacos, between the order and the delivery onto the table. The poor guy who was serving us was sorry indeed, but it was not his fault. And half the food served, beans and rice were cold...? The bar service was very poor too: 25 minutes to prepare a fruit mule!? And in the glass the 2 thirds were ice!! A total rip off. Cheap and not great at all. Banditos!

Market Square Tacqeria

By JOHN T |

I have visited Viva Villa three times and it seems that the service is slow. Seems to me that they have too many meat choices on the lunch menu. The meats that I ordered were very good and the add-on's were tasty too. market area many many times and know what kind of crowds will come during Tejano Fan Fare (March) and Fiesta Week (April). They need to step-up their game to capitalize during this period and the summer months. The restuarant is very nice with indoor and outdoor seating. Bar inside and a walkup bar outside.

Great place to eat at market square

By Cookie8186 |

Great place to eat tacos and relax after shopping at market square. Many types of tacos available on the menu. My son had the mini street taco plate and finished all 4. My daughter had the two taco plate (1 fish and 1 ribeye) and enjoyed both tacos. I had the chicken enchilada with the green sauce which was very good. My husband had one of the torta sandwicheswhich he enjoyed. The waitress also brought him three different types of hot sauce to try. We all enjoyed our meals.

Attitude instead of service

By MysteryPoodle |

We ordered 4 tacos and a side of squash. It came to $21 and we never actually got the squash. Although there were few diners present, our to-go order took almost 20 minutes to prepare. The food we got was good, but the order taker seemed impatient and irritated by our questions and lack of familiarity with the menu.

Our second choice turned out to be a winner

We went to Mi Tierra Cafe for brunch on New Years Day but it was so busy we were facing a wait of about an hour. The lady on reception told us about Viva Villa, which is owned in the same interests. Even though they did not have a breakfast or brunch menu we thought we would give it a try. We had the best tacos we have ever eaten and really enjoyed our meal. The service was prompt and the whole experience was a very pleasant surprise. If I am ever back in San Antonio again I would go to Viva Villa before going to Mi Tierra.
