It's not easy to find the right combination of good food, good wine, great atmosphere, and awesome staff. Once in a while you stumble in the right place at the right time where your evening event is just mesmerizing. The interior design is the right accent to distinguish Walter's form other local places, combine that with its presence in one of the finest Brooklyn's neighbors and you have a great night. I had a platter of oysters and clams followed by the salmon on my Thursday night dinner with family. The way the salmon is prepared was something unique for its tasteful appearance and consistency when eating it: a bed of delicious and juicy kale hosts the grilled fish, topped by the delicate saute beet relish. Other dishes like the Walter's Burger and the Spicy Fish Stew are a must-try.

This review is purely based on the service at this place. If you care about how you are treated at a restaurant, I highly suggest that you find some other place to go. Even if the food is great, which I do not know if it is the case, I don't think that it is worth being treated so badly and having to pay for the privilege! There are way too many restaurants out there to accept this sort of treatment. Some friends and I were going to the Brooklyn flea market and so we decided to have an early dinner close by. My friend made reservations at 6:00pm, but we got to the restaurant at 5:00pm. We were going to get a drink at the bar until our table was ready. It was fine in the beginning, but when they seated us, the booth they placed was in was much too small for 6 people. They moved us and that was when it all started going downhill. The music got turned up and so we asked (nicely) whether they could turn it down a bit. It was not even 5:30 and there were not that many people in the restaurant. So it wasn't like they wanted to keep up a hip club atmosphere. They turned it down and then the volume went back up again within a few minutes. This went on two more times and on the fourth time, the manager was EXTREMELY rude to my friend. He actually had to catch his breath! I have been to many restaurants, but this is the first time I have ever encountered anything like this. It was so bad that another friend went up to the manager and she was spoken to an unacceptable manner too. The manager refused to apologize and doubled down instead. We had just ordered another round of drinks, but we were so upset that we decided to leave. The waiter didn't make things better. He just seemed irritated with us. Then the owner, Walter, came out to talk to us and he said that he wanted to "make it right". I said we were treated so badly that we were leaving without even haven't started the second round of drinks. He didn't even say that he would comp us the drinks seeing as we were leaving because of his horrible manager. I think that is the least he could do. I am not an unreasonable person, and so for me to get this upset and write this review should be a warning to all who read it.

The pleasant atmosphere and the tasty omelettes and breakfast potatoes coupled with the attentive service made this a hit for our party of 8 in Brooklyn. Go early to avoid a line.

We chose Walter's on a recommendation from a friend and he was right! Great food and cocktails with very attentive staff! The Steamed Duck Buns appetizer was so good that we ordered another!! Our party had the fried chicken, Fisherman's stew and French Dip! Everyone enjoyed their meals and the portions were good sized. We completed the meal with the Chocolate Banana Bread pudding and Flourless Chocolate cake and both were excellent!! We'll definitely be back again!!

Recommended by a great friend and blogger I decided to check this place out for myself. I had the recommended chicken and waffles. The chicken was GREAT. It is served with honey and the honey was a real nice touch. There was a diverse fun crowd at Brunch and I can see why its popular. The place is pretty small so be prepared for a bit of a wait. The upside is Fort Green offers lots of eye candy and because Walter's is right across from Fort Green Park you will not be disappointed. I recommend putting Walter's in your list of places to brunch. It wasn't the best brunch I've ever had, but it was good.

Stopped in while I was in the area. They only had the raw bar available at the time I stopped in. I was a little upset until I tried the assortment of fresh clams and oysters they were offering. Everything was delicious and we left more than satisfied.

I met a friend from LA who is now bicoastal who suggested Walters for a quick bite. It really was an attractive place with a nice crowd. I just had a hamburger, some fries, and a soda. All delicious and really hit the spot. I finished it off with a cup of their very good coffee. All in all my friend made an excellent suggestion for our lunch. Reasonable prices with excellent service.

Who would have thought I would experience best fried chicken I have ever eaten. Simple meal chicken, mashed patatos, and brown gravy. Not greasy or over breaded. Light and perfectly cooked so chicken is moist and very tasty. And served with hot honey meaning spicy really good. Wife had spicy seafood stew. Included shimp, crab and mussels. It was to die for. Go to this place

Rum and Fig Sidecars, boneless ribs, buttermilk chicken on jalapeno mash with a maple syrup style gravy that was clearly harvested from honeydew caressed by the Gods. Staff of pure delight, better vibes than a Bob Marley appreciation society, low lighting with an ambient soundtrack from funk, to hip-hop, to Motown and everything in between. Yes this, ladies and gentlemen, is where it is most definitely at. Without a doubt. But don't go, because I may not get a table. Cheers.

We had a nice, cosy dinner at Walter's, which started out with drinks. The waiter was very happy to recommend drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. We had a starter which was the artichoke dip with toasted bread. This was a melted cheese and artichoke dip, served hot. Very good and tasty. One starter was definitely enough for two. After that we continued with the linguini with clams and the "todays special", which was lamb chops with chick peas and harisa. Both where very good dishes, excellent taste and adequate portion size without, being too much. The waiters where very attentive and gave good service. The ambience was relaxed and cheerful, dimmed lights.

We had brunch at Walter's and the food was disappontingly cold and overpriced. The orange juice cost 6 dollars plus tax and tip, which Is just too much. The only redeeming aspect was the good music.

We walked to Walter's for a Sunday brunch, after seeing it closed the day before due to a movie shoot. It was worth the wait! We found a spot right away at the bar, and loved the retro atmosphere. Food and cocktails didn't disappoint, and service was exceptional. Thanks Alejandro!

We got there about 6 pm on a Friday night and were quickly seated. However, the waitress was a bit slow to take our drink order which we saw sitting on the bar waiting for her to pick up. After she served out drinks (by the way, DON'T order the iced tea! Really nasty taste!) she then chatted away with a couple seated two tables away while we waited to place our dinner order. While all this was going on, the restaurant was rapidly filling up and by the time we left there was a line at the door. Still, once our dinners arrived (French dip and bar steak) we were greatly impressed with the taste and quality of the food, which was, after all, our reason to go there.

I had a great meal at Walters last week. The raw bar was awesome, we had two different kinds of oysters which were both delicious. The owner brought out a free appetizer of soft shell crab. Great atmosphere and wonderful service, I would totally recommend Walters.

First off I love the theme. The restaurant is named after famous Walters - so all the framed pictures in the restaurant are Cronkite, Berry, Mattheau, etc. A small cozy spot on Dekalb directly across from park. Reminds one of a french bistro. A nice big bar and maybe twenty tables. Excellent cocktails, good wine list. I have been 3 or 4 times. Excellent seafood, great oysters, linguine and clam is A+ they throw in a lil chorizo, the hamburger and fried chicken are both delicious as is their french dip. Don't miss the artichoke dip as a starter - especially on a crisp winter's night. Food might sound low brow but it isn't just good eats, fan favorites prepared with love. Walters does take reservations and is walking distance to the Barclay's center so it is a nice spot for a pre-show dinner or after game nightcap. Prices are reasonable. Fine fare in Fort Greene.

Trying To Sample Ft Greene Eating Places. ThiS One Looked Pretty Nice On The Outside But That's About It. Food Was Average At Best As Well As Service Nothing Particularly Special Here

The menu and reviews for this restaurant are so good that we met friends there for dinner. Pros: staff is attentive and accommodating and the food is delicious. Cons: Noisy. Old shaby seats with torn cushions. Portions are minuscule and side dishes are not included. Prices for the amount of food are outrageous. I ordered soft shell crabs. I got one crab with tartar sauce with some fluffy decorative greens. My husband ordered the fishermen's stew which, while delicious, was not nearly enough food even with the included bread. We left the restaurant still actively hungry. I don't expect or want huge portions, but if I'm going out to dinner, I do expect enough to satisfy my appetite. We will never return.

We were staying in Brooklyn and friends recommended Walters and glad they did. We did get there for opening but I can imagine it does get very busy so would recommend making a reservation. The choice for breakfast was very good and worked for all food appetites in our group. Good range of diners from families, groups and couples.

My cousin and I had dinner May 24th @ 5pm...there was no wait...the food was tasty...the waitress could have been a bit more patient, but do-able. The problem I had was there was a large dog sitting next to it's owner and when they left, the dog shook himself...now the dog air is airborne and this is UNSANITARY!!

Went for drinks and appetizers. Great atmosphere. Specialty cocktails were fabulous. Nice area of Brooklyn.

Last week my wife and I visited Walters which started off promising, but unfortunately, it ended up being a major disappointment. Despite clearly communicating my dietary restrictions, I was served pork by accident. This oversight, coupled with their complete lack of response when I reached out to them, only added to my frustration. Regrettably, based on my experience, I cannot in good conscience recommend Walters to anyone. Even after my dining experience, I made multiple attempts to contact their management for a whole week, but I never received a response. This blatant disregard for customer satisfaction, combined with the overall underwhelming quality of service, clearly indicates that there are far superior dining options available elsewhere.

Three of us went there for dinner and were thoroughly impressed. Waitress. to start was very easygoing, and friendly as we sat in a booth. The meals were wonderful; starters we had dry rubbed chicken wings, fried green tomatoes and deviled eggs--all three were the bomb, especially the wings--not dripping with hot sauce ,but a fantastic not too spicy, dry rub, then fried to perfection. We had flanksteak, fried chicken, with homemade mashed and a french dip sandwich w/gruyere cheese and carmellized onions on a french baguette... Wanted to split, just a small sweet after dinner, ordered the coconut cream pie and the chocolate, banana breadpudding.;Oh,my word..both made in house, and the BEST coconut cream pie I have had ..KAtie, the manager was extremely helpful, even asking the cook, how the coconut creme pie was made, it was that good. Staff great, wonderful small place, food and drinks super. What more can I say, except, TRY IT.

The oysters are worth the visit, and the cocktails are very well made. The main courses seem good but I can do as well at home--maybe because I've only been there for brunch the two times I've gone. It's a fun place, and the wait staff is fantastic--so efficient and skillful--and there's a real friendly neighborhood feel to it.

Great burger, friendly staff, neighborhood feel, decent wine list, lively ambiance. What more could you ask for.

I went to Walter's twice during a recent weekend getaway and thoroughly enjoyed each time. First I went for appetizers and a cocktail with a friend. The food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious. The artichoke dip is a must! We had the bitter margarita for our cocktail, which was also outstanding. The next day I went to brunch solo and was pleasantly surprised to be seated straightaway although the place was really busy. I enjoyed my omelet, but I have to say my favorites were the complimentary mini muffins and the Aperol spritz I had to drink. The service was pretty friendly both times and I love the atmosphere, especially at night.

We went on a Saturday morning. Delicious brunch menu - I had a smoked trout salad, really good. Cozy, light-filled room right next to Fort Green park and farmers market. A casual, happy vibe - full, but not oppressively crowded.

Great service. Delicious food. Nice beer for competitive prices. The restaurant was a little too dark, and we almost got charged for someone else's mojito but we spotted it and it was removed from the bill. Overall really nice dinner.

Friends and I ate dinner at Walter's restaurant in Fort Greene before going to the theater. Our reservations were honored on time and we were seated by a sweet artist-looking young man. Our waitress was friendly and cheery as was the restaurant itself. The restaurant features a lovely bar area where young professionals coalesced to socialize. The noise level was perfect for dining, even with a young family with two children sitting at the table next to us. I drank the California Chardonnay which at $10/ glass was well worth the price. We ordered appetizers of Octopus and Artichoke dip, both of which were delicious. We all agreed the Octopus was the most tender and best prepared we'd tasted anywhere. One friend ate steak which was prepared beautifully to order. Myself and my date tried the Vegetable Lasagna and were pleased with the taste. Walter's Restaurant is a friendly place to eat that will not bet your budget. The wall behind where we sat featured about thirty old and older photos of famous people (and a dog), all named Walter. We had fun trying to name them all.

I'll provide more details below, but the gist of this review is GO. If you are visiting Fort Greene/Clinton Hill and looking for a great meal, GO. If you live in the area and are trying to find a new favorite with familiar yet surprising food, GO. This was the best meal I've had in Fort Greene, and one of the best I've eaten in a very long time. You can tell upon arriving that Walter's must be good, because boy is it busy. Thankfully we went on a Tuesday around 8.30 so there was only a 5 minute wait, but I've been told that it's not uncommon for lines of 1/2 hour to 1 hour. We had a simply phenomenal meal. Each dish on it's own was incredibly delicious, and they just kept getting better as we progressed through the meal. Starting with a cold avocado and jalepeno soup which was a perfect summer starter. At first the soup seemed almost a touch too spicy, but then the creaminess of the avocado and the chill of the soup counteracted it beautifully. The grilled octopus was delicious and incredibly tender. Listen to the specials! We had the soft shell crab sandwich which was quite possibly the best sandwich I have ever eaten. My reaction after my first bite was total silence because I didn't want anything distracting me from what was going on in my mouth. Simple, but a beautiful mix of flavors, and perfect soft shell crab. For dessert, try the key lime pie, it was fantastic. The service was also very good, attentive but not overbearing. Empty dishes never stayed on our table for more than a minute or two, and despite how busy the restaurant is, our food came very quickly. The atmosphere is casual but cozy. Tables are very close together so it can get a little noisy when full. The only downside is that I wish it was a bit cheaper so I could eat there more often. Between the two of us (2 starters, 1 entree, 1 dessert, 1 two cocktails) our bill came to $75. But there's no doubt it was worth it. I've paid similar money for far less satisfying meals.

Okay food and service but extremely loud. Forget about coming here and speaking with anyone at your table! There are other spots that offer good food, service, and the capacity to have a conservation and that's where I'll be going.

We just managed to squeeze in at the bar of this place one Sunday morning whilst staying in Fort Greene. Service was a little slow to start but soon quickened up and we enjoyed some great food surrounded by great decor and refillable coffee!

We went for dinner just before a show - once we informed the staff of our time constraint they brought the food out very fast. The appetizers were great, excellent calimari, nice pita with 3 dipping sauces. The main course of scallops was superb. Pork chops were also good. The others with me also enjoyed the food. I would definitely go back again!

It’s been roughly 5-6 years since we’ve been back for a meal. This time we had a day-date, as I work at night and our daughter is in 4th grade. Took a wee bit of time to find parking, but found a spot right across the street. My wife and I sat outside, since it was summer-like weather. So I had a tasty Bloody Mary and my wife had a Talea Hazy IPA. Then was thinking of having oysters but it’s not cold in the Atlantic to indulge, will wait a few more months….so I went with the French Dip/fries, my wife had their Lobster Roll. Service was great, we had the server with a southern t’wang in her voice. Can’t wait to go back sooner than another couple of years. Cheers!

We showed up at Walter's on deKalb at about 6:20 one Friday, and were promptly seated in a booth for four. The wife does not like going to dinner without a reservation, but this place, like a lot of new joints, does not take reservations for fewer than four. The salad was so so; I think it sat in a fridge before being brought out, but I found the meatballs terrific although the wife thought they were too salty. They had a special app, which was hangar steak with tomatoes and arugula. It was one of the best steaks we have ever had, being perfectly cooked. Pie was key lime and it was just perfect, with a great graham cracker crust and whipped cream on the side. Overall a nice place but it is a bar and it is loud, especially when the kiddies scream.

I love this place, the staff, the decor, the bar area is beautiful. The barman dresses up in a bow tie. It feels a little bit old school and glamorous. The food is always good, we've been here several times. The fried chicken with garlic mashed potatoes, bacon gravy and spicy honey is delicious and so is the French Dip; wagyu beef on a baguette with fresh horseradish cream, jus and fries. The coconut pie dessert is so good they could run a restaurant on this dish alone - we never eat coconut pie from anywhere else now because the one served at Walter's is sublime. Seating is good, the booths especially. You have to reserve most days or you won't get in or will have to wait 20-30 minutes for a table if you just show up. It's a really popular spot with locals. Book in advance and go, it's a fabulous place. In the back there's another door leading to another restaurant, Japanese I think...they've styled that part like a speakeasy. We've taken so many friends here and they all love it...and I had my birthday dinner here in December.

Food and staff should share the same top billing here. Food is better than what I hoped for with a menu not so big that it was hard to make a decision. Started with the watermelon feta salad - so fresh and light. Fried shrimp and grilled octopus appetizers were amazing. The octopus was the best EVER eaten. The seafood stew entree was perfect and the pork chop was even gorgeous to look at. Served with jalapeno grits - enough to take some home. Key Lime Pie was authentic. Key lime rind in the pie and a touch in the fresh whipped cream on top. Wine great, coffee great. So the staff: Pampered service is the term. Attentive to all customers. Greeted you as a guest and not just people occupying tables. Such a busy restaurant but everyone took the time to say goodbye and thank! Executive chef visited the table to make sure we were happy.

Went into a packed place with a friend and the atmosphere was nice. Service was good, and we ordered a burger and half chicken. While the burger was fair, the chicken was a true delight! Heard this place is also good for brunch but had no chance to try it out. I'd give this place a 4 star review if only they had draught beer...

This was an excellent find - a great place for brunch and well worth the 20 minute wait for a table. Great atmosphere, healthy portions of yummy food and super friendly staff. Dinner was equally yummy the next day.

I like this quaint little unique food and bar spot. The decor is old school and gives such good vibe, the staff and could smile a little and not be so “cool”. The breakfast was nice and I was in love with the home fries! Worth a visit

We tried this location of Walter's on a recent visit to NYC, based on our daughter's recommendation (she hadn't eaten there but knew the wife of the owner) and our visit to Walter's other location about a year ago. Although we arrived on the early side for dinner, the place was already full but luckily we did not have to wait more than about 10 minutes for a table. It seemed like a popular local place, and soon after we sat down there were quite a few people standing around the bar (which is right next to the front dining area) socializing and waiting for tables. The menu is not huge but is quite varied, with options for meat and fish eaters as well as vegetarians (but not much for vegans, since most vegetarian items had cheese). Everything we ordered was fresh, nicely presented, and tasty. From the raw bar we ordered 8 assorted oysters. My husband had the endive salad (with pear, hazelnut, and blue cheese), my daughter had the winter vegetables main (cauliflower, kale, pepper, onion, radish, pine nuts, raisins, jalapeno grits), and I had the special soft shell crab salad Vietnamese style, which was an interesting combination of flavors. We also enjoyed the refreshing drinks--cucumber mint lemonade (I loved it so much that I ordered a second one), and ginger beer. Service was friendly and helpful, and we didn't feel rushed even though there were people waiting for tables. The place has a hipsterish vibe, but we felt welcome despite being very far from hipsterdom. (The good service had nothing to do with our daughter's presence, since her friend was not at the restaurant and didn't know she was coming.) It is fairly expensive, though probably not out of line with similar NYC restaurants. We would go there again if we were in the area.

Was in town visit son. Was cleaner t g an most. Friendly staff. Quick services. Wad a very hot day just nice to get out of the sun for a bit.

We go here all of the time!!! I always get the catfish sandwich and a Bloody Mary for brunch and it never disappoints. I literally love this place.

A friendly place with a lively atmosphere. The wait staff was helpful, efficient, and friendly. The food could not have been better. A nice variety to choose from. In fact it was hard to choose. They had soft shell crab with ramps the night we were there as a special. It was fabulous. As good as we have had in South Carolina where they know how to do soft shell crab. In the back is an asian inspired room and bar. We did not eat there but did peek in the room. People appeared to be enjoying themselves.

Walter's restaurant in Brooklyn, New York, is described as a "hipster friendly American eatery" located at 166 De Kalb Avenue, at Cumberland, in the Fort Greene neighborhood, facing Fort Greene Park. Whatever that means. It also is described as a spinoff from Walter's original restaurant in Williamsburg, that it is "riding the coattails" of the old man's success. Well, my wife and I haven't dined at the original and Walter's is just fine, thank you very much. Open from 11 to 11 Monday through Thursday, 11 to midnight on Friday, 9 to midnight on Saturday and 9 to 10 on Sunday, Walter's offers the meat-and-potatoes brand of comfort food that we appreciate. When we travel, we usually skip lunch so we can schedule as much sight-seeing between an early breakfast and a late dinner as we can. But during our weeklong visit to New York City, we managed to slip in a few lunches because we wanted to sample as many restaurants as possible. At Walter's, we started with deviled eggs, shrimp cocktail and a kale Caesar salad with croutons, parmesan cheese, white anchovies and grilled chicken. For her entree, my wife chose fried chicken with garlic mashed potatoes, bacon gravy and spicy honey. I couldn't resist a dry-aged burger with lettuce, tomato and pickled onion on a sesame seed bun with cheddar cheese and fries. Hipster friendly? Good food in any language.

This place was one of the few around that wasn't full. We were greater by a friendly guy who took us to our table. My boyfriend and I really wanted to have the ribeye steak but they had just ran out.. :( our waitress was really apologetic about it. We then opted for the roast chicken and the pork chops. We also shared the asparagus, the fries and the corn on the cob. It was a lot of food but it was so good that we managed to eat it all!! If I had a small complain it would be that the chicken might have been a little spicy for me but overall great experience!

This place has the best bloody Mary's! They are so horseradish-y and delicious! We love coming here for brunch (the catfish sandwich is my fav while my boyfriend always gets the chicken and waffles and loves it!) but we went for dinner recently and it did not disappoint either! The staff is great and it has a great vibe. I love this place.

We went after seeing a Yelp email mentioning places in Brooklyn for steak but was blown away by their Fried Chicken dinner and Brussels Sprouts side dish. Both were some of the best tasting I have had in a restaurant. I have been there twice in the last two weeks and food and service was consistent and top notch. Cant wait to try the Brunch if I can get in...!

We have had many great brunches and dinners at Walter's. I think they only take reservations if you have 4 or more people, so be prepared to wait a little during busy weekend nights/brunch times. However, if you have to wait, it is a fantastic chance to have a swell cocktail from one of the bartenders (who wear bow ties). Cocktail faves: include Fig Sidecar, Pimm's Cup and Ramos Gin Fizz (at brunch). Brunch faves include huevos ranchero and the side of bacon. Dinner faves include steamed duck buns, gazpacho, meatballs, shaves brussel sprouts with hazelnuts, and the shortrib burger. Last night we had the daily fish special, which was excellent. Branzino lightly fried with a corn/red pepper salad, which was super fresh. The coffee is really yummy here as well. Conveniently located at the corner of Fort Greene Park.

We stopped into Walter's at the request of a friend. So glad we did - we had an excellent dinner with great service. Recommend the fried chicken! Not within walking distance of the bridge, but a relatively cheap cab ride.

My wife, son and I had breakfast here recently. Excellent breakfast accompanied by a very nice Bloody Mary. Great ambience and very friendly helpful staff. Reasonable value.

I discovered Walter’s while looking for a good restaurant close to BAM for a pre-concert light dinner. Success! We were graciously welcomed and permitted to sit at our table of choice which was booked for just after we were leaving. Our little nook worked nicely, so we could hear in this bustling restaurant. There were a variety choices both in food and wine. We shared the delicious artichoke dip and I had the wonderful grilled baby octopus with a good glass of rose. A great find and we shall return. The women next to us were also dining pre-theater and their special of the day, a grilled whole dorade looked great!

The artichoke dip was cheesy and delicious. The last word cocktail was just right. Fisherman stew was very tasty and a large portion. And the coconut cream pie was the best I have ever had. Service was excellent.

It was my second time visiting Walter's! The food is so fresh and delish! The first time I went was for dinner -- which i recommend. The second time I visited, I went for Sunday. The brunch was so good! I loved the homemade blueberry muffins that bring to the table.

Landed in JFK and came straight here! Burger and beers! Amazing and just what we needed after a long flight! The menu did other stuff which all looked great but I'd say try the burger!!

A cosy atmosphere, nice seafood, good selection of wine, friendly staff and decent prices. If you want to dine in a good quality Brooklyn restaurant, I would give it a try...

if you are looking for fresh oysters, Walters is a classic you should not miss. best oysters in Brooklyn, no doubt.

Four of us enjoyed a simple lunch on a weekday afternoon-and, because it was early, noise was a non-issue, and service was attentive. Oysters were excellent, Caesar salads average, sandwiches on excellent bread- the decor was pleasant and service was fine.

Here during the week after work. We finished our day late, around 10P. We were able to get a table no problem (6 people). The oyster selection was amazing. Really enjoyed the margarita!! Would totally come back again.

This restaurant was recommended by a local. She said it was a walk but it was worth it. And we agree the salad with tuna grilled and fish tacos later we are content. The waffles and chicken looked tempting.

My wife, my son, and his wife ate breakfast here while visiting from Kansas City. We were ahead of the brunch crowd, so it was very relaxed. Service and food was second to none. Being a former waiter at a 4 star restaurant, I usually take note of details and this place does it right. Highly recommend!

Great food, decent service - but the noise level is unbearable. We literally fled the place immediately after we had emptied our plates.

There were 5 in our party for dinner. No reservations but only had to wait about 20 mins for a table. Very enjoyable with some unique menu items. Octopus, "Duck Rolls" Service was above par and the food quality- value ratio was reasonable.

Tucked away in one of Brooklyn's finest neighborhood, this gem is not to be missed. Great ambience and mixed crowd gives a warm vibe to this spot. There's a wide array of Oysters and will not disappoint. If you have room for dessert, Key Lime Pie is the way to go.

Our daughter recommened it. it was packed on a easter sunday night. we got a small table by the door but has a wonerful evening. Our waiter was excellent. We both had fried chicken washed down with a decent bottle of Cote du Rhone. host asked how we heard about it as obviously we were outsiders... and welcomde us. Live the life of Fort Greene. limited menu but all fresh produce. Our best dinner of our easter week end! we will definitively be back... adn could live in fort greene

The cocktails and food are well prepared. Nothing was spectacular, but nothing was disappointing. A good option for a pre-show dinner and a short walk to BAM.

Went here with some friends and were seated right away, it is pretty small so you might want to call ahead. The meal was fabulous, we split some deviled eggs and brussel sprouts to start. I had the chicken for dinner and it was out of this world. I have measure all other restaurant chickens to this one and they all fall short. It was a great meal with affordable prices.

If you do not mind a very lively atmosphere while you eat, this place is pretty good. I ate there with my wife, daughter/husband/grandson. We all had an artichoke dip which was excellent. My wife had fried chicken which she said was very good. My son-in-law had a cheeseburger with skinny french fries which he also called very good. My daughter and I both had roasted chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and string beans. This chicken was the best I have had in a restaurant in a long time. I would rate it a 5 out of 5. Very tasty and juicy! The mashed potatoes were great as were the beans. Our grandson ate from his mother's chicken. Finally my wife, grandson and I shared a wonderful apple pie a la mode. No one else ate dessert We sat next to the bar because it was the only table available at 6:30 PM on a Friday. The crowd was in great spirits and the music loud. There is another room which I presume is quieter. But we did not mind. Our service was fine. The prices are somewhat stiff, call it a $$$ restaurant but worth it in my opinion. The entire bill came to $125 with tip. All in all, a very enjoyable meal.

I visited Walters initially on a freezing cold weekday March afternoon for a coffee. The coffee turned out to be the best I had tasted in Brooklyn and, encouraged by this and the super friendly staff, we went for dinner that very night. The place was buzzing - and packed with what seemed to be a local, young, trendy crowd. Some people were drinking cocktails and eating oysters and seafood platters (Walter's speciality is seafood) and some were just drinking...the rest were eating dinner, from a varied and delicious menu. Everything we ate was fresh and full of flavour and served with style and charm. The tables were a bit crowded, as is often the case in New York, but it was not a problem. Definitely a great place to eat and drink in Brooklyn - Walter's wasn't taking reservations when I went as it was newly opened but hopefully they will now as I don't think you could get in otherwise!

A full place on Saturday but was able to get the last booth. Had chicken waffle, Huevos Rancheros and the Omelette plus a Ramos Fizz. The food was very good and Charlie the server was very helpful and professional. Would definitely go back again

Visited local Brooklyn family who took us there. Very pleasant and welcoming staff. Excellent food and good wine selection. Highly recommend the grilled octopus appetizer and the "orange Manhattan" cocktail.

Walters was in easy reach of our accommodation providing a small varied menu. Small dining area, popular place for friends and couple to dine. Relaxed atmosphere. Meals were of good quality and prompt service. We had the burgers.

I love this restaurant, I live nearby and I go all the time, the cocktails are great and the food is reliably very good. The atmosphere is romantic and very Brooklyn, though it can be loud from all the people talking and having a good time.

Our group of 4 arrived on a Friday night, fortunately we'd made a reservation as the restaurant was crowded. Lucky for us, we were shown to a comfortable large booth right away. We enjoyed the deviled eggs, oysters and mixed drinks to start, but as the evening wore on, we could hardly hear each other due to the loud music, even the twenty something waitress had to lean in to hear our orders. My husband loved his fried chicken and I liked my burger, but I'm not sure we'll go back.

I love finding places like this in New York, and by that I mean places that are effortlessly cool and serve good food. From the beautiful bar to the natural light flowing in through the windows to the stunning floor tiles, this is a place that is pleasing to the eye. Not to mention the fact that it felt like everyone in there was good looking! The food was just as pleasing, with a combination of healthy and "decadent" options that are sure to hit the spot. I had the kale caesar salad, which was just the right amount of caeser dressing for it to be tasty but not heavy, and a side of roasted beets (yum) and brussel sprouts (double yum). My friend had the burger which was heavenly and accompanied with the perfect portion of crispy, salty fries. All in all, it was the perfect place for an early night out with friends spent catching up and people watching. If you find yourself in Fort Greene (or not), I would definitely consider Walter's for your next meal!

Seafood was very good. Nice presentation. Staff was courteous and helpful. The place is small and was crowded on a Sunday. It was a little too noisy for me.

I was taken here by a friend and it was super busy on our arrival but the staff were very accommodating, taking our names and asking to enjoy a drink at the bar whilst we waited for a table. We didn't have to wait long and we were shown to our table. The service was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Given that they were busy, there was no rush, so we could enjoy ourselves and our food. Our brunch was delicious, it was a shame to see an empty plate as we wanted more.

Always thought it was the best place for oysters, except this last time. Some of the oysters (from Maine I believe) tasted really bad and fishy. The rest was ok but I was disappointed.

Had lunch here on a recent Saturday, mid afternoon. They were offering both brunch & lunch, which worked well for our group. Nice bar while you wait for a table. The bartender and staff were very friendly and so accommodating. They forgot to transfer our bar bill to our lunch bill. When we pointed that out, they comped our bar bill since they said it was their mistake. Great food, great crowd and friendly vibe.

Party of six had great service and food - but little conversation because the place is so loud. (We went prime time Saturday night.) Selection of three different raw oysters was enjoyed as was the heirloom tomato/watermelon salad. Two of our group enjoyed the very large pork chop, two the excellent fried chicken served with a spicy honey, yum!. One had the fish stew and one had mushroom, noodle, cheese dish. All good. Will probably go back - but on a weeknight, earlier.

Walter's has the look of an early 20th century watering hole with ceiling fans, semi-flush ball lighting, and colours mostly in black and white (including old black and white photos on a wall in the back). When you step in, there are a bunch of tables to your left that are too close together, in my opinion, and, on the right, three tables with a bit more space in between. There are three booths in the back area. And they have a long bar. It was a hot day and Walter’s has A/C, so the interior was comfortable. The lunch menu wasn't too exiting, but if you like fish tacos, pulled pork sandwiches or grilled shrimp salad, you might disagree. I had the “7 oz. Short Rib Burger” (a hamburger) for $14, with fries included. Despite Walter’s interesting beer offerings - which include Helles Schlenkerla Lager and Firestone Union Jack IPA - I ordered a Bud for $4. The burger was very good, and the fries were the really thin kind and tasted great with the beer. I had a good lunch experience and will, no doubt, be coming back.

Perfectly spicy Bloody Mary with a touch of horseradish, classic eggs Benedict, cooked dactyl as it should be and no superfluous additives like truffle dust or caviar paste.... Also available chicken and waffles that pleased. Well done. Thanks. Bill for two was around $50 with ne drink each, one full plate. Not a quiet place but yo can hear each other and eat well. Bar seating and ordering was not an issue. Few tables. Better call ahead. Well air-conditioned.

My friends & I started and ended our trip to NYC with a meal at Walter's! The food & cocktails were fabulous, and I loved the atmosphere. I highly recommend the artichoke dip! We also enjoyed there oyster selection & you must try their "Manhattan" drink. The staff were wonderfully gracious. Walter's will absolutely be on our "must dine at" list for all future return trips to NYC.

I had never tried this combination before and the contrast sounded most interesting. I just loved it, it is a pity I live so far away as I would love to try it again.

We loved the brunch at this spot. We tried the French Toast and the Smoked Salmon Benedict and they were amazing. The service was great and the interior has lots of natural light so it doesn't feel cramped. It looks like they have a great happy hour too.

A very American atmosphere (dinner at the bar, fast service, lots of noise, not unpleasant at all) but the salad ordered with a lot of salad and very little accompaniment at a prohibitive price spoils the evening a little... There is just as good in the neighborhood for less!

Warm welcoming staff, surprisingly good food. We had a great time. I had a great steak and excellent desert. I hadn't been back to this neighborhood in 40 years and was quite happy to find such a good choice.

I like restaurants where you can carry on a conversation without yelling across the table. Unfortunately Walters, even late on a Sunday night, is so noisy that leaving and getting onto the quiet street is a happy relief. It is not a big restaurant. And they have booths which I like. But they play the music too loudly that requires diners to either eat in silence or, as everyone seemed to do that that night, yell across the table. Not pleasant. It would have been annoying but forgivable had the food been better. The menu is limited and heavy on the meats. There was only one main entree choice for a vegetarian - the garganelli pasta with vegetable - so I ordered that. The size of the pasta portion, which came in a large bowl, was meager by even sharing proportions. There was, perhaps, five spoonfuls of pasta in the bowl. Pasta as an ingredient is not expensive, though $14 for a dusting of pasta as an entree is. And it was very heavy on the garlic. My dining partner had the hamburger which he said was average. Not returning ever. BTW too dark to take a photo of the food.

I dined at Walter's the afternoon of Dec. 24, 2012 with four other family members, including a 1-month old baby. Even though the restaurant is cramped on space, they still happily cleared a space for the stroller and set up a high chair so that it'd fit the baby carrier - very family-friendly! The menu doesn't include a ton of description on the various ingredients in the entrees, drinks, etc., which resulted in us having to send a cocktail back (ordered a Dark and Stormy - rum and ginger beer on the menu- but had lots of lemonade, which one of us can't drink). However, they were completely accommodating and got us a fresh drink quickly. Another person ordered an Oban whiskey on ice and he was pretty sure they watered it down (no bite to it). Our guests ordered the fried chicken, which was good, but the mustard coleslaw was a miss. We ordered the fish tacos and they were excellent. I've never been, but I hear the brunch is fantastic - I have family who used to go every Sunday and love it. We'd probably go again of we lived in Brooklyn, though it'd largely be for the atmosphere. Great place to just hang out over cocktails, though make sure you know what's in it, first.

Lovely to go with friends and have drinks and food but hard to see as it was so dark! Friendly service and quick! Seated immediately (we had reserved) and nice choice of food but all on the more expensive end. Variety of dishes and all of our party enjoyed the meal although couldn't finish as portions were very large. A nice dinner out for our only night in Brooklyn.

I really enjoy this place -- great atmosphere, the food is fabulous, and her staff is so friendly. I love the fried chicken. Great place for groups and families! Well done.

The food was good, some of the menu item listed were not provided as described. Gem salad was suppose to have been made of baby romain, but was served on red leaf. The duck bun was good, although a little too much mayonnaise, and first bite tasted like tuna fish. But as you got into it the duck became more pronounced. Nice location across from the corner of Ft. Green Park. The photo of the inside of the restaurant pictured here on Trip Advisor is similar to the inside of Walters I experienced yesterday 5/2/13. But I don't think this is the actual inside of the restaurant; Walters door is on the corner where you enter and at the intersection of Dekalb Ave. and a cross street. Also more significantly the inside of Walter's currently has tin ceilings, not wood beams, plaster walls, and a stone tile floor. Combined these 3 hard surfaces make for a very very loud room, particularly as the front door was open to allow in the fresh spring air. There may have been 3 or 4 other tables of diners and about 15 people at the bar. It was really difficult to hear the waiter as well as my dinner companion. I could only begin to imagine what the noise level would be if the dinning room was full and the bar area had 2 or 3 times as many people at it. Tighten up the menu, put updated photos of the restaurant, add some sort of sound baffling devices to the space: would greatly improve the overall dining experience from good to very good or great.

We had a simple lunch. i had a plain omlette just what I needed and JOhn had a tuna melt. The drinks- cucumber lemonade and and an Arnold Palmer were delicious.Service was good. They are open all afternoon,

Had an enjoyable dinner here, though the service was somewhat slow. The appetizers were delicious-artichoke dip and popcorn shrimp with bacon mousse. The fried chicken was very good, if slightly overfried. I guess I don't understand charging high prices for fried chicken that's cut with bones in it-a couple of us in our party cut our white meat carefully and still had some bone in it. I would prefer boneless breast myself.

Cute space with vintage furniture and lots of outdoor seating. I had a simple scramble with prosciutto on top of an airy sourdough miche, and very tasty cheesy potatoes.

The accustic of this restaurant is really really bad. If you want to discuss with the person you are there with, you have to shout. Personel was unwilling to move us to an other table too. Will NOT return. Horrible.

The place is simply super and perfect for Sunday brunch/lunch. Delicious food and friendly staff. Place to recommend at Brooklyn 😄 ....and they have good Mimosa 😄

Had the fisherman's stew and brussel sprouts and they were both amazing! Wanted the chicken and waffles victors only available during brunch. Highly recommend you come here if nearby or after a Brooklyn Nets game like I just did!

This place has amazing food!! I went here with my wife and two of our friends in May and Walter's had just opened up recently on the corner right down the road from our apartment rental. Well we decided to give it a try because of how close it was and man o man am I glad we did! You walk into the place and it has this really cool old diner look with the staff wearing all white with little black bow ties. We sat down and looked around and all the photos on the walls seemed to be of famous Walters throughout history. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a ginger beer. Being from the south I had to see what a bbq sandwich was like in NYC. It was amazing! I dare to say one of the best I had ever had. The ginger beer was excellent as well. My wife and the girls went back the next night and had some oysters that had been flown in and they swear they were the most amazing oysters they had ever eaten, really, they wouldn't shut up about it. This place is right by Fort Green park in Brooklyn. If you are in the neighborhood you really should stop by.

We arrived in Brooklyn on a Thursday afternoon. My husband was searching for nearby restaurants and Walter's came up. On arrival it was a bit fancier then expected. The staff was really nice. There was a wait and luckily a reservation no showed so we got their table. My husband got the fried chicken which he really enjoyed, both kids got cheeseburgers which they devoured. I had an entree salad which was filling but cool and refreshing on a hot day They had a large selection of drinks and expensive appetizers. We obviously were not spending the most money in the place but the server treated us like we were. We wouldn't hesitate to eat here again if we are ever in the area again.

This has become my favorite Clinton Hill/Ft. Greene restaurant. Try the octopus appetizer, the key lime pie. Only caveat? The music could be softer.

Great Waffles. Good spot for breakfast on the weekends. Ft. Greene park is right across the street so it's a good stop for families who want to bring the kids out after a great breakfast!

We just discovered Walter's and it's officially our new favorite place. Fantastic ambiance, delicious food, attentive and relaxed servers. The music was a bit louder than it needed to be, but the young hipster crowd didn't seem phased by it at all. Sweet corner bistro!

Went here with a group of friends for lunch. 5 of us sat comfortably at a booth (room for 6). We got a combination of brunch/lunch foods. All were tasty. Ambiance was comfortable and welcoming. One friend ordered a burger cooked medium but received it rare; sent it back and received a delicious burger done perfectly, along with an apology. Would eat there again.
"I would have had seconds," ....said the girl who cleaned her plate
Just had dinner at Walter's and thoroughly enjoyed myself. 1. Decor: was really nice, loved the big mirror behind the bar. 2. Drinks: I tried Walter's Punch (rum punch). In the time between ordering and my drink's arrival I got very nervous I might have just ordered a Malibu Bay Breeze, luckily I didn't. Walter's Punch was balanced and delicious and I was super happy. 3. Service: our waiter was great. He had a nice ring and I'm pretty sure a bow tie. I don't remember his name but I really enjoyed him. He was just the right amount of attentive. 4. Food = Yum. We tried the duck buns. Buns, fluffy and light. My fiance ordered the French dip, I had two bites and both get a thumbs up. I ordered the fried chicken with the garlic mash. It's been a while since I've been so pleased with a food order. So satisfying (I would have had seconds) We also ordered a side of the brussel sprouts and really enjoyed having them prepared without bacon or balsamic, it seems that's all anybody ever does with them anymore. So thanks for mixing things up on the brussel sprout front. We don't live in that part of Brooklyn but would make the effort to eat there again.
