Best ramen in town

By Isabelle |

We stayed in a hotel (kabuki) that was right across the street which made us choose this restaurant. The food was delicious, way better than other restaurants in SAN FRAN. You didn’t feel like eating heavy, which is very nice considering you’re in the USA where there is fastfood all over the place :). Price range was totally fine and staff is also very friendly.

Great food! Fast service!

By Angela F |

We went here for Ramen and really enjoyed the food. Atmosphere was great and everyone was friendly. The green tea creme brûlée is also very good. I wasn't sure about it when we ordered it but ended up loving it!

Excellent food, nice hip atmosphere

By JoeCarpenterCO |

My girlfriend and I visited on a Friday night. We got in after a fairly short wait and got a comfortable table. It's a crowded place, but that only adds to the hip San Francisco noodle bar feeling it has going for it. We actually got our food much faster than I would have expected, and if anything it was a little too fast. We got our seaweed salad, then our ramen, and then our takoyaki in rapid succession, before we even got water. So that was strange, but I didn't mind so much. The food is exquisite. The servers seemed like they had their hands full, but it's Friday and the dining room is full. I don't find many faults at all with this place. Great ramen in a cool setting, right in Japantown. Would recommend any day.

Ramen that's worth the wait.

By Maria J |

I have spent several months in Japan on a couple of occasions and whenever I am visiting a new city, I always look for a ramen house with Tan Tan. This did not disappoint. The service was great and the food spoke for itself. There was a wait before the restaurant even opened. We were in that line, thank goodness, but we would have gladly waited longer should we have had to. The decor inside the restaurant is pleasant, but honestly the food was so good, I hardly looked up. The gyoza was great and you could order Saporro by the pitcher... good choice! It was great and we will go back next time we are in San Fran, for sure.

Waraku how do I love thee?

By Christopher G |

Let me count the ways… 1) You have gluten free noodles so I can eat Ramen with my gluten intolerant wife! 2) You’re open all day rather than having a break between lunch and dinner. I like to eat at strange times so this is GREAT! 3) You have shorter waits than the other Ramen restaurants around, I hate waiting 4) They have AMAZING tan tan men 5) What else matters, you should just go here.

good choice on a cold day

By David K |

stopped by here on one of those cold, damp, December days which used to be so common in the Bay Area. The ramen and broth are first rate. I had the pork bone broth. Only complaint is that I would have preferred if a smaller portion were available so that I could pair it with one of their appetizers -- the squid at another table looked great.

Average ramen

By Suwatss |

My first taste for this ramen place is not very impressive. Its ramen with Shoyu and tongkutsu soup are not very tasty and lack a rich flavor that normally will be for the Japanese ramen. It is located in the Japanese town in San Francisco. We think the ramen house in Japanese town are better.

Ramen, what a ramen!

By Peili2 |

Very nice food. Ramen was delicious and we had a few apetizers and also very good. The place is small and cozy... not Japan but close to it.

Great ramen and even better squid

By SebAndJen |

Came here to find some alternatives for all the junk food. We (4 German travelers from with a good ramen experience from Düsseldorf) were super satisfied. As a starter we shared the whole squid which was totally on point. The ramen were rich in taste and the staff was incredible polite :) On top the atmosphere is really relaxed and the lights are nice dimmed. A real shelter from the stressful city life :) The pricing is totally adequate. Would love to come back :)

excellent service, great food

By TallSH |

the appetizers were great, 5/5, pork dumplings and and a kobe beef (i think thats what it was) both very good. Had a really good, large salad - nice combination of ingredients, fish bowl (a little too rich in fish broth taste, but good none the less). the pork bowl was very tasty, highly recommend it. Went on a monday night when it was a little slower and service was excellent.

Ramen Restaurant

By Kimberly |

Delicious, fresh soup. Mostly pork based soups. We tried two soups and a rice dish and found them all to be good. The fried kalamari was especially good. Good service and comfortable restaurant. I would definitely recommend.

Food is now ruined forever after Waraku

By Teresa G |

I have to say that the Ramen I had here has killed all food for me. I could not believe how amazing the Ramen was. It was an eye opening experience and all I can think of was the smooth buttery texture of the broth, and how delicious the noodles were. If you are in Japantown, or just in San Fran for a day this is the one must hit spot! Get the Tsukemen Ramen.

Ramen!

By FuzzyCouple |

As many others have noted, this is an excellent Ramen establishment. I try to judge ramen places first by their broth, then by their noodles, and then by additional ingredients. Broth bases can very in style from place to place and I try to keep my judgements of dashi-based broths separate from shoyu-based broths, for example. Our party thoroughly enjoyed the ramen here; it was comfort food. Service was good, restaurant is clean, prices are reasonable. I recommend the spicy tan-tan noodles for an uncommon experience.

Great noodles

By Jon H |

Delicious and hearty noodle dinner. My friend and I inhaled the special of the house, with extra egg.

OMG Ramen!!

By Tim S |

Ok, for those of you who say Ramen?? Why would I pay money for a .99 cent packet of Ramen? The only answer is, visit Wakaru. I spent a year living in Korea, where Ramen is very popular. There I learned that Ramen is not just some meal that college kids cook in a hot pot for less than a dollar. Ramen done right (in the orient) is a religious experience. Waraku is no different. The restaurant had a good vibe. The employees are friendly and the place is clean. They have Japanese beers on tap and some wine and sake. The Ramen is to die for! Just trust me. Order a bowl of the spicy tan-tan noodles and see if it isn't amazing! The marriage of flavors is off the chart! We ate at some great restaurants in San Francisco during our visit (some that cost almost $300.00 for two people). I have to say that Waraku was probably my favorite (and it cost less than $35.00 for two). I wish they had one in my hometown!

Average

By myklrl |

I ordered the house special spicy ramen which was definitely unique but I found it to be very average in flavor. The meat was ground and the broth was just ok. I will give them points for a very nice establishment and prompt friendly service. Found the prices to be as expected.

Great ramen in Japantown!

By hopetoelope |

We ducked in here on a rainy, chilly night a few weeks ago on a friend's recommendation. I wasn't sure what to expect because I've never been to a restaurant who is well known for their ramen. What a great surprise! Broth was spicy but not too much heat. Noodles were perfectly done. Can't wait to go back on my next visit to San Fran!

Awesome ramen!

By Teresa B |

We stopped by Soko Hardware to buy chopsticks and asked the clerk for a dinner recommendation, specifying that we wanted to try ramen. He said he only goes to one local restaurant, Waraku, because it is so good. In fact, he ate there the night before. He cautioned us, though, to go early because it gets busy. Glad we took his suggestion! The ramen was amazing! My husband and I both had a pork-based broth, my daughter a chicken-based one. None of us were able to finish there was so much. The entire meal was reasonably priced, under $50 with tip. As the evening went on, it did begin to fill up, so heed the clerk's advice and go early if you don't want to wait.

Fabulous ramen

By AldebaranFlorida |

This trip we stayed at a hotel in Japantown across the street from Waraku. We had lunch there the first day and liked it so much we returned for our last dinner in the city. The ramen is top notch and the service is excellent. Specifically, we ordered Spicy Tan-Tan, Roasted Garlic Tonkotsu, Tonkotsu with spinach, and Spicy Tonkotsu, We also ordered the grilled squid, which was very tasty as well. We highly recommend Waraku and we will return on our next trip to San Francisco.

Ramenlicious!

By misopiso88 |

We were looking for a late lunch in Japantown and were excited to find Waraku open. So many of the restaurants close between 2:30-5 pm but Waraku serves a full menu all day. The ramen was DELISH! Friendly staff and cool ambiance. Highly recommend!

Great ramen, great service

By Happy Travels |

Our servers were always attentive and took good care of us. The ramen was very delicious as always. We recommend the Roasted Garlic Tonkatsu and the Veggie Ramen!

Awesomeness flavors

By Anthony |

Loved it!!! My nephew took my wife and I for our first time and it was excellent. I loved everything we ordered, it was so authentic tasting. Great food and service. I will definitely return for more.

Our favorite Noodle Restaurant in Japan Town

By Lucky M |

This small restaurant in Japan Town serves an excellent variety of of Ramon noodles in excellent sauces. Both the food and the service are excellent. We go there on every visit to San Francisco...take the #38 Geary bus and ask the driver for the right stop, it is only one block over.

Ramen!

By abaker706 |

Excellent! It is well worth the wait. If you go early you shouldn't have to wait long. The menu is short and sweet. Seemed very traditional to have the 3 broth choices and a few appetizer choices. They do one thing very well, Ramen!

Better than 25 cent pack Ramen

By mariakuiper |

This place was a lot less busy than the other ramen places in Japantown. The ramen was very good, and the portion of it was huge. The waitstaff is very sweet.

Japanese food

By Anneke V |

Ramen (broth) is quite nice. We asked for ramen without porc, which was promised by the waitress to us, but were served the porc meat. I had tuna, which was fine, but the rice was not hot and the veggies were cold.

Popular Ramen house situated in San Francisco's Japantown

By Brian W |

Recommended by the staff and conveniently located across the street from the Kabuki Hotel, this is a very popular eatery ! Expect to line up and be sure to add your name to the "waiting list". The 30 minute wait rewarded us with a grilled and very tender whole squid and 2 X delicious bowls of "Tonkotsu" style ramen, made with a very flavourful and house made pork broth. If your feeling generous also try the California artisan "Sequoia Name" sake.

Ramen

By Vanessa M |

Got here around 8 pm and there was still a wait outside of the restaurant. Place is pretty small and not a lot of seating. Waited about 40 mins for a party of 4. Ordered the tonkotsu and added corn, broth was pretty good and half egg was cooked perfectly. We also ordered the takoyaki (5 pieces) it was pretty tasty. My friends order the Dan Dan Mein (spicy) and added the Cha siu , and also ordered the deluxe ramen ($14) that had pork belly and whole egg. Would recommend this place.

Did not disappoint!

By jkwon2015 |

I recently visited San Francisco. My wife read some good reviews on the Ramen soup so we were looking forward to trying out this restaurant. The Ramen soup did not disappoint as the soup broth was extremely flavorful! We all agreed that it was MUCH better than any Ramen soup we tried in Vancouver where we live. I will definitely go back there!

Some of the best ramen I have had.

By James B |

I am not a ramen expert so let me start with that. However I really enjoyed the meal I had and so did the rest of my group. We also ordered the fried chicken and some dumplings. Great all around and really satisfied my hunger I had built up walking around the mall across the street. Beer selection kind of lacking although the wine and sake selection looked pretty good. Service was good.

Simply excellent

By MyleneM77 |

Dinner for 3 very late. Be careful, kitchen is closing at 9pm. Warm welcome, quick service and great food. For sure, we will come back before leaving ! I recommend sashimi salad, ramen, hanetsuki gyoza, karaage...

Good prices and interesting food but not well prepared

By Kent A |

I had the garlic and chicken ramen. The garlic had been badly burned and that flavor was overshadowed all the other ingredients. I could find almost no chicken in a very large bowl of ramen. It was served immediately though and the price was fair. The service was good and the beer was unique and very cold.

Very Good Ramen

By RAJ711 |

Three of us went here for dinner. One of us had been here the day before and liked it so much she returned and took us with her. We ordered the seaweed salad and monk's fish livers as appetizers. The salad was interesting in that it was a fairly standard lettuce salad with seaweed added to it. It was not the usual seaweed salad (all seaweed), but none-the-less it was good. The monk's fish livers were nicely presented and quite flavorful. They just melted in your mouth. For the main course we ordered Spicy Tan-Tan Noodle Ramen, Hanetsuki Gyoza, and Fried Scallops with smoked egg tartar sauce. The ramen was outstanding. The soup was very flavorful (and spicy) and the noodles were very well prepared. One of the best ramen dishes I've had in quite a while. The Gyoza (potstickers) were nicely prepared and all five were "fused" together, which was a nice touch. The scallops were, in my opinion, a little heavy on the breading but overall quite enjoyable. For dessert, we had the Green Tea Creme Brulee. This was a nicely prepared and flavorful dessert and was a good finish to the meal. We accompanied the appetizers and main courses with warm sake and draft Sapporo beer. These went very well with the food. We liked the restaurant enough that we are going back in two weeks to try more of their dishes.

Yum!

By KTandLee |

Hit the spot. Delicious combination of flavours and textures. We had the spicy noodle bowl for lunch, it was yummy! We would return.

Excellent food with unfortunately mediocre service

By Z1559BDsams |

If you don’t mind mediocre service, I highly recommend you to give it a try. The food is amazingly delicious. The broth is the best I have ever had, truly feels from 16 hours of cooking. Ramen tastes fresh. We both love the pork belly and octopus balls. Service is very mediocre, to say the least. We had an infant, they did not even come over to check on how we like our food, nor offered water refill. I had to ask her.

Very good ramen

By jasoncwlee |

Fried chicken, tonkatsu ramen and spicy tonkatsu ramen are very good, just don't order the kobe beef.

Not Japan, but pretty good

By astaplet82 |

At here just a few weeks after a trip to Japan. Its pretty authentic, and well worth the stop. Wasn't quite as good as some of the places we'd eaten in Japan, but was pretty cheap, big bowls, and much better than the stuff you ate in college. Gyoza were great.

Flavorful, fresh, good service: A great lunch

By writer48 |

This place is busy and we can understand why. Three of us went here for lunch and we were fortunate to be seated near the window. Our server appeared, brought us tea and took our order. We all chose different items and we were all pleased. The bowls arrived steaming, and every broth was different ... chicken bones, pork bones and simmered pork ... and very tasty. The meats and noodles were plentiful and every bowl came with some corn and a smoked soft-boiled egg. We had a terrific lunch and enjoyed every mouthful. This is a great place for a quick lunch and we saw many shoppers and business people there. We will return and we will recommend Waraku to others.

Food was good

By Christine M |

Restaurant was pretty small. I ordered the Deluxe Tonkotsu Ramen. Ramen was good, but not something I'd go out of my way for. I liked the kakuni in my ramen. They only have Water, Calpico, OiOcha, and Coke for their non-alcoholic beverages. Was surprised they didn't provide hot/iced tea. Staff was friendly.

Great Food!

By Denise_edm |

We got Karaage and Gyoza as appetizers and Ramen for mains. It was absolutely amazing! The staff was very friendly too. The only thing is that it would've been better if they played Japanese songs to make it more authentic.

Excellent

By Max H |

Ramen was packed with ingredients and full of flavor. Can't wait to return. Easy on street parking and near several public lots. Staff was attentive and courteous. Very clean establishment.

A great place on a rainy night

By Jkwusa |

Or a sunny Sunday for that matter, as I’ve done both. There are places close by where you can wait for 45’, or much longer for a table but I think Waraku is just as good. The ramen is fresh and very well prepared. Tonkotsu ramen highly recommended. No reflection on the restaurant, but my car parked right around the corner on a recent Sunday afternoon was broken into. A sadly familiar event in SF.

Great ramen dinner

By catherine r |

We got the garlic ramen bowl and loved it. We also got the Japanese style fried chicken which we would pass on getting again in the future. Fast friendly service!

Good service and good noodles and salad

By Colin H |

Went for a quick evening meal, split a bowl of ramen and a salad between us, quite adequate for a small appetite, tasty and good service. Recommended, although many other options to try out in the Japantown mall.

Good ramen place. Just ramen though.

By GS-Newish |

I stopped in here for lunch. The menu has a nice selection of Ramen and mine was very good. Decent prices too.

Yum

By jank1959 |

Make a reservation, you can walk around while your waiting to go in. They seemed short on help , but food came at normal speed ... The noodle bowl was good as well as edamame, was crowded on a thurs nite ... It was a very popular place

Very good ramen

By Abycats |

Walked around Japantown for a bit and the stopped in here for ramen. We were not disappointed. There was something on the menu for every one and even the kids enjoyed it.

Great ramen in a nice place

By Esteban Angel |

This place located in SF Japantown serves great ramen in a cozy environment. The Tonkotsu and the gyozas were amazing!

Good Ramen

By Heidi D |

This ramen house located close to the Japanese mall in Japan Town offers fresh and flavorful ramen dishes keeping up with the popularity of a dish that was once only found in 25 cent boil in bag packets. There are some few choices including one vegetarian (good) and a garlic one my husband really enjoyed. Good service. There were also a couple appetizers and a few beverages. I would have preferred the veggie broth to bring more highly favored and added seasonings but did appreciate the spinach and tofu. A few more selections would have been nice but all in all a solid meal.

Not Your College Raman!

By BayTwo |

This trendy and intimate noodle house in Japantown is worth the trip. It is across the street from the Kabuki Hotel and the JapanTown Center. The goyza (pan-fried pork dumplings) are delicious. Don’t miss the Tonkotsu Raman Deluxe (go for the deluxe at only $5 extra – it is worth it!). The Sapporo pitcher of draft beer is a savings over ordering separate bottle beer. The restaurant décor is attractive, inviting and “warm.” The service is friendly and responsive.

oily

By blk213 |

had the tonkatsu ramen and the tsukemen noodles, both were more oily than expected and affected the taste; portions were good, had all the usual ingredients expected but just too oily. the Tsukemen I hadn't tried before and same, the dipping broth had too much oil..hadn't ordered this before and wouldn't order again, noodles were on side with other ingredients and you 'dip' it into broth…service was fine, in Japantown….wasn't impressed.

Flavorful Ramen for Lunch..Cold?

By Zu S |

I walked around Japantown checking out the different ramen restaurants. After checking out the various menus, I overheard a cashier at the hardware store recommend this place. I asked her about a couple of other places and she assured me that this is the place to go. She was right. My husband got the Spicy Tan Tan Noodles and I got the Tsukemen. My husbands was served hot while mine was served with a hot broth but all the noodles and ingredients were on the side, cold. It was fun to add the ingredients. We both enjoyed our meals. His had the spicy kick he likes, while I had the fish broth that I just loved. I was going to order the one with vegetable broth, but the waitress suggested the fish broth as it is more flavorful. She was right. We enjoyed all the ingredients added to our bowls. However, my pork pieces were a lil on the soft side and with the fat along the edge, I gave them to my husband. Having looked around, the price was good. We would definitely go back.

Beautiful Decor and Great Noodles

By Kwazimotosan |

Stopped at this Japantown restaurant for an early dinner. Ordered the very good seaweed salad and edamame to start. Note that the seaweed salad is more of a mixed salad made with seaweed salad as an ingredient. Not what we expected but very good. Then had the tonkotsu ramen. Came with chashu pork and smoked egg. The egg was perfectly flavored and cooked. The pork was a bit ordinary. Broth was excellent - and they offer fresh garlic to press into the soup - never seen that before but it was a nice added flavor and probably will keep me healthy all week. Best part was the noodles. A bit sweet and toothy - very good. Surprisingly reasonable prices. Really nice decor. And great service.

Tonkatsu!

By Provo8 |

Best ramen. Enjoyed the tonkatsu..loved the medley of flavors.. still thinking about it! Relaxed, casual atmosphere and friendly service. Right across from the Kabuki hotel which is a plus. Can’t wait to return!

Worth Every Noodle!

By Lisa Y |

Exceptional Ramen! The portion of pork is super generous and oh so tender. . Lucky I didn't go for the deluxe size! The pork bone broth is a nice savory rich flavor. My mouth is watering just thinking of it! Service is excellent too! The only downside is two of the three of us literally had to run to the washroom several hours later. (And we hadn't eaten anything else that day). Even so, we would still go back there, it was just THAT good.

Loads of flavor

By Ferry U |

Need to come several times to taste different ramen styles. They all seem so good. Or just come with many friends and have them order different dishes and try them all.

Killer Ramen

By Foodcritic11_11_11 |

We had the Tonkotsu and it had great depth and silky smoothness. Very traditional brew. I would order it again.

Good for lunch

By John A |

Stopped here for lunch with some co-workers. We are all from out of town. Service was polite, fast. Food was good and the price was not bad.

Tonkatsu ramen was excellent

By christinek152 |

Husband and I had dinner here before a show at the Fillmore. We had the takoyaki appetizer which was very good. Large chunks of octopus. He had the tonkatsu ramen and I had shoyu, the tonkatsu broth was divine. Not that my shoyu was bad, it's just blander. The noodles were cooked to al dente which was great. Service was active and not distant. Very enjoyable meal.

Outstanding for a good price

By BigA1999 |

We found this place online and after different and expensive places in S.F., I was positively surprised how good it was. The ramen was outstanding, the service super friendly and the price normal. Next time I will visit this place again

Popular clean Ramen place with lots of menu choices

By Kangamom |

Ate here with some friends that live in San Francisco. They love this place and seemed to order the Spicy Tan-Tan Noodles as this is the speciality? I'm a bit of a ramen snob and although the ramen was acceptable, I didn't think the flavor of the broth was anything to write home about. I did think the fried chicken and the donburi was quite good. Overall atmosphere was nice and it is a very popular place. The service was efficient and helpful. I would go again, but would probably order a rice dish next time!

AMAZING Ramen

By triathlete1969 |

TripAdvisor led me to this place, and while I was standing outside reviewing the menu board, two patrons came out and enthusiastically endorsed it as "the best ramen place in SF". So in I went, and it was delicious! Tonkotsu (deluxe) and a shochu on ice. Perfect!

Best Ramen house ever!

By Richard S |

My dinner was fabulous, as was the service. I went alone and felt quite comfortable. The staff made sure I was noticed and had the very best service!

Yummy broth!

By LaChinois |

Was staying at the Hotel kabuki and the young man at the front desk recommended Waraku for their Pork Tonkatsu ramen. He was right - delicious!

Favorite ramen in town.

By Asher M |

We go often. Great for take out. Love all the offerings for ramen and appetizers. Great sake as well. The place is well designed open for lunch and dinner. Love the friendly fast customized service and usually the chef comes out to personally serve the ramen. Thanks Waraku!

The Best Ramen in Japantown

By sonchar |

So many choices for ramen in San Francisco’s Japantown. Don’t waste your time and money on an average bowl of noodles - just choose Waraku and you’re getting the best! First of all, this place has the best ambiance of any of the Japanese restaurants you’ll find in the mall and on Buchanan St here. It’s modern and clean. And the service is always 5 stars. They are nice and attentive here every single time. The noodles are tasty and cooked al dente - and you get the right amount of noodles so you won’t run out before you finish the broth. The broth choices are tonkatsu (pork bones) and shoyu (chicken bones). The tonkatsu is creamy in texture and tastes a little on the sweet side (it looks and tastes like they add cream to the soup but they don’t). Shoyu is more savory - soy sauce based - and my favorite. All bowls of ramen come with a variety of goodies - bamboo shoots, seaweed, spinach, sliced pork, etc. if you get the shoyu ramen add the spicy miso (it costs extra) but it gives the broth more flavor. And it isn’t hot spicy at all so don’t let that scare you - it’s very mild. They offer a lot of appetizers here too. So it’s a good choice to come here if you’re not into ramen or noodles. The fried tofu (agedashitofu) and fried chicken (karaage) are more than enough for two people to share and taste really good. If you want to eat healthy (which is hard to do at most of the Japanese restaurants here) - this is the only place in Japantown with a good mixed green salad.

Would Be Good With a Few Improvements

By waikikisun |

The ramen Hubby and I tried here at lunch had a decent broth and good noodles at a reasonable price. I liked the smoked egg, too. What we didn't like were the meatless pork slices. That's right, meatless, because it was only fat. Biting into it and having to spit it out kind of added an unpleasant nuance to the meal. Also, the gyoza we ordered were all stuck together in one long clump. Looked like the dumplings had been fried together in a giant egg white. The filling was average. Is it common to serve stuck gyoza? Is this something that unbeknownst to us is a Japanese tradition, or perhaps a new trend taking the foodie world by storm? We may never know, but we didn't enjoy it. However, Waraku does get points for having a clean bathroom and for conveniently being open when our favorite ramen joint was closed.

My first ramen

By spzusman |

We had lunch. It was my first ramen, so I have no comparison. I saw the movie :-). The place is nice and clean. The service prompt and courteous. The choice is wide and the ramen was tasty.

One of the best places to eat in the neighborhood

By Dave P |

One of the better meals I've had in this neighborhood while staying across the street at the Kabuki.

Good fast And a lot of beer

By Evelfett |

I like a lot I was there for lunch clean and music was on point food was very good price point for SF very quick service that’s great of lunch in SF

Great ramen!

By TwinMom1995 |

We asked the desk clerk at the hotel where to eat that was close to the hotel. He suggested Waraku saying it had the best Ramen around. It was delicious. We both had the Tonkotsu Ramen (the #1) and enjoyed it. We also shared an order of the Karaage (fried chicken) but didn't find it particularly good. For all that food and two beers our bill, including tip, was less than $60. This is a small restaurant and we had to wait for a table (it was a Friday night) but it's first come first served and we didn't have to wait too long. The servers were pleasant and working very hard. Would recommend if you like a great ramen meal. NOTE: For those of you that don't like spicy only 2 of the ramen dishes were spicy.

We keep coming back

By MLAbug |

We’ve come back to Waraku every time we are in San Francisco. It had a small dining space so be prepared to wait outside. They are good with sitting you down once your name is on the waitlist. Out of respect for the other patrons - wait outside instead of hovering by the inside door. We love the grilled squid- shareable! We also tried the tokoyaki - shareable as well- very moist with chunks in it! For the smaller appetite patron like me- I ordered the small bowl of chicken don buri and between the squid and tokoyaki - I was in food coma. Any of the ramen on the list is two thumbs up! My favorite is the garlic oil ramen- garlic smell love love love it! Perfect place for small groups to gather - love their furniture too!

Absolutely Phenomenal

By Railey H |

Quite possibly the best, most above and beyond customer service experience I may ever have in my entire life. I placed a delivery order on toast and no delivery driver ever came to the restaurant to pick it up. Waraku was closing for the night sooner than I would have been able to walk there and pick it up myself. Instead of what most places would have done and just refund the order and leave it at that; the manager, Scott personally delivered it to me. The food was also as excellent as their customer service. I sincerely can not reccomend this place enough

Good ramen. Not the best EVER though.

By Sapphire M |

Mmm... I thought this location was a great ramen choice. I'm sure SF has a lot of great eateries. The ramen broth was packed with flavor! The noodles home made and yummy! The service was just okay, the restaurant wasn't really packed either. This however will not stop me from recommending this place. The ramen was good but not the best I've ever had so next time I might try somewhere else.

Great food and not expensive!

By Wilfried C |

We picked the place randomly and were so happy we did! The ramens were very tasty, copious, heartwarming and rapidly served despite loads of customers. Plus this is really not expensive, definitely worth the price! We will come back for sure.

Great Ramen

By Darnell C |

We decided to try this place on impulse and was not disappointed! The service was friendly and efficient, and we were both very satisfied with the Tonkotsu Ramen. The broth was spot on, with a perfect serving size for us.

Delicious, Fresh Ramen!

By CreateSF |

I normally try Hinodaya Ramen on Buchanan Alley, but their quality has really diminished this past year. I gave Waraku's TONKOTSU RAMEN DX (PORK) a try and it was absolutely wonderful. I did take out and although it was busy, it took less than 15 minutes to get my order. The broth was out of this world and the meat was so tender and delicious. I will definitely return!

Yum Yum!!!

By Crazycatlady |

I've never had ramen other than the stuff you live on in college that costs 30 cents a package. This place was soooooo good!! I had the Tonkotsu Ramen. The broth was so interesting and tasty. The egg was perfect. The pork was perfect. The service was prompt and courteous. My husband had the Spicy Tan-tan noodles. He had a bit of a stuffy nose from a cold he's fighting, so this worked wonders on his sinuses and throat. The best part actually wasn't the ramen, which was awesome, but the green tea creme brule. Oh my lord, this was so good I think my eyes rolled back in my head. Do yourself a kindness and eat this dessert. Its insanely good.

Warm Soup on a Cool Day

Took my wife here for her birthday (along with a friend) and had an amazing Pho that my wife can not stop raving about. The appetizers are delish, the pho is delish - it's a great place to be.

Great place to slurp a bowl of savory ramen!

I had the shoya miso ramen at Waraku recently. The noodles were perfectly chewy and hot, the broth was salty and rich. The menu is straightforward with a variety of ramen options. The only thing my vegan friend could eat was edamame--but my ramen was wonderful!

OMG

I am very serious when it come to ramen. This is the 2nd time I had ramen in SF. The first one was at Izakayagoku and it was good. However, this Tonkatsu deluxe here is a gem!! Very good broth, very good ramen!! Highly recommended!!

Large portions at reasonable prices

Modern looking restaurant with people waiting for tables, but we got in w/o a wait. The decor was modern and sleek, so I expected the prices to be much higher than they were and thought it was a fancy restaurant. it was very casual, and prices were incredibly reasonable, so we figured each dish was be rather small. We were wrong and we were stuffed! Food preparation was good and food was delicious. Will dine here again.

longing for their ramen!

The broth and chewy ramen noodles will keep you coming back for more! I always get the Tonkatsu flavor, it has pork in it with a milky broth. If you're really hungry, order an extra side of noodles to share. You'll be happy you did! The wait on a Friday/Saturday night can be 20-30 minutes so drop off someone to put your name on the list while you find parking.

Tasty ramen!

Since I have been to Japan, ramen is one of my favorite dish. So, on our visit in San Francisco we decided to hop into this restaurant As we were really hungry from all the walking we did. We tried two different ramen and my favorite one was the spicy one (there is only one spicy on the menu) - very tasty, strength re-bringing ramen. I enjoyed our lunch

Good but not perfect

We were looking for a good japanese restaurant and found Waraku through TripAdvisor. Having lived in Japan we can say that the food was satisfying. We had Tsukemen and shoyu ramen. Service was fast but otherwise nothing special. We got the check without asking for it, that was unusual but we have learned that this is how it is done here.

I Never Knew Ramen Could Be This Good.

By Mel C |

This place is great. I'm amazed the hipsters haven't discovered it yet and overwhelmed it. But, it's still a great "secret find." Because the crowd does not know of them yet, then the prices are still very, very good for San Francisco. I had the main pork ramen dish with the 16-hour-preparation noodles with the bits of mushroom, onions, egg and other veggies, plus the dark, roasted green tea, which they didn't even charge for, (and I had a refill). Between the tea and the noodle bowl, I was totally full for ten dollars and change right in the heart of San Francisco with the highest quality food imaginable. I'd not got to travel the world too much when I was younger due to airplane phobia; but lately I've gotten over that and been in several other countries; and I can tell you that there is no meal equal to this in 90% of those places at anything like this price. I'm simply knocked out by the prices and the food . . . simply perfect.

Good ramen

Went for dinner, really busy had to wait for a table but was well worth it. First time for eating ramen and really enjoyed it. Was very tasty and loads of it, my partner had the spicy one and it was spicy. Very good price most dished around $10, we had a great time and place was very busy every time we passed.

Good ramen

We found this restaurant after trying to get into a different restaurant, where the wait was just too long. We started with some great sake and tasty gyoza. The ramen was delicious and the portions were big. We definitely were full at the end of the night.

hearty ramen

We nibbled on hot and salty edamame while waiting for our tonkotsu ramen - huge steaming bowls of spicy and full-flavoured pork broth with udon noodles, kikurage mushrooms, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, nori seaweed, miso, and a smoked egg oozing its yellow goodness into the broth. It was so delicious we almost finished it. They also serve seafood dishes such as takoyaki (octopus balls) and monkfish liver, sashimi, salads, donburi and barbecued Kobe beef. But if I go again I won't be able to resist the ramen. It is licensed and open for lunch and dinner with slightly different menus. They serve sake, wine and beer and their prices are cheap for San Francisco (the ramen is only USD9). Heartily recommended.

Great choice in Japantown

Great service and very good ramen selection. The ambience is great and they the service is extremely friendly and efficient. Was surprised to find a small but nice selection of california wines.

Good but not for vegetetian

By very-sunny |

This little popular place offers in fact great ramen and only ramen from a very short menu but no options for vegetetian ! All soups are based on pork or chicken soup. Even if you ask for not putting a pork meat in the bowl and change it for other vege ingridians the staff is not easy with that. Staff is very diffetent can be profesional and nice or rude like i had. Place gets busy in the evening so try to book a table ahead .
