Excellent food, service and environment. Beautiful restaurant in heart of downtown LA. Delicious fish dishes in particular.

My husband saw this restaurant when we walked past it last summer and wanted to try it, but we didn't have time. We just returned from LA again and this time we went and I really liked it. We had reservations and were seated at a booth as soon as we arrived. Our server was very attentive to us and the food was delicious and presented nicely.

It's a good seafood restaurant, its specialties the oysters. Bay water is excellent. The sea bass very well kept and to the perfect point. Only Service is not so friendly and attentive

We stumbled upon Water Grill because we were staying across the street at the Hilton Checkers hotel. The service from our waitress (I forget her name!) made us feel like royalty, and the food was incredibly fresh. The menu has a pretty wide range of options - I had the pasta with shrimp and my husband had the cioppino. The ambiance was great, too, especially for a Sunday night.

We ordered the lobster roll which was very tasty. The restaurant was nice inside and there was good, friendly service. Only con is that it was very expensive for what it was. LA is expensive in general.

We arrived relatively early on a Wednesday evening without a reservation. Not a problem.. The restaurant, on Ocean Blvd and corner of Santa Monica, has great views of the ocean. A large venue with a raw bar and other bar, tables and booths. All open with vistas to Ocean Blvd and the Pacific. We split mussels as an appetizer. They were cooked perfectly, moist and flavorful. Our Swordfish was excellent served over spaghetti squash and tapenade. Our friends had Lobster and scallops and also thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Bread served before the meal was excellent. Wait staff were efficient and professional. Good choice.

What a shame, they definetly know how to cook and have a great variety and selection of shellfish. Someone could spend a great evening there, if only there would have been many more waiters and the service would have been much, much better. We had one waiter for a table of 10 and it seems we were not the only table she had to take care of. Everything arrived late, not at once. Our wine was just put on the table, only when we asked it was cooled, but then refilling of glasses did not take place. All waiters seemed stressed and overchallenged. The restaurant is quite loud (all in one room) which would be okay, unfortunately the waiters increased the noise level by drying and sorting cutlery in front of the open kitchen so you couldn't here your own words anymore. Even when we asked them to stop this, they after a short break started again doing this. Finally, obviously the manager of this evening, a big tall guy was standing in the doors of the open kitchen and instead of bringing order into the service, just screamed around and made the whole team working even more ineffecient. So overall they have good seafood, but the staff created an atmosphere of hectic, rush and discomfort. Sorry guys we will not come back.

A well appointed classy restaurant. Loved the cheese bread for starters. Enjoyed the salmon i ordered.

We dined at the restaurant on a Thurs night, and it was full with a jovial and diverse group of diners, e.g. business colleagues, couples on dates, friends catching up, etc. Despite the busyness, service was prompt. We ordered several dishes to try in our group, and we all agreed that the Wild Alaskan Black Cod and the Chilean Sea Bass were the best. For dessert, try the Caramel Bread Pudding. You won't go wrong with those!

We got there about 3:50pm Saturday before Easter. We were told they get slammed by 4. The place was only busy in the immediate bar area. We decided we wanted a table when we arrived. We received a discouraging reply from the receptionist that it would be 20 minutes. No problem, we will wait at the bar. The bar service was very attentive. The timing was almost exact. We were seated near the open air seating inside the perimeter of the bar, but being from Az it was a little too cool so we were moved to a table on the inside area next to the bar. That’s when we “lost service “- can you hear me now. I think it was no mans land. We think we had one primary waiter. He was almost non-existent. Others that walked by did notice we were not being attended to and offered services. They have an awesome variety oysters and other shellfish. I had some of the best cioppino here, primarily due to the very rich tomato “broth “.

Just back in LA we need some good food and we came here to eat and we had the swordfish! Super tender and super tasty....Very suggested

Beautiful place and good food. The fish is nice and the place is very well decorated and good for a business meal.

Had dinner here with the hubs. He had the scallops which were cooked perfectly and quite delicious. I had the cioppino which was okay. The broth could have used a little more intense flavor but the fish and shellfish were all very good. Food was delivered quite quickly. Had a nice bottle of wine as well (Sancerre). However, there just wasn’t enough personnel in the restaurant to service all of the tables. Our water was replenished only once even though we kept requesting it. The hubs dropped his napkin on the floor and it was picked up but no replacement brought. With a few more wait staff, this could be a five star restaurant.

Fresh and tasty seafood that fills you up and leave you happy. the staffs was extremely and provided us an outstanding service. For price, quality, service, location, I am not afraid to say it's one of the best restaurant in Los Angeles considering food and extremely high quality of service!!

Great place for excellent seafood. Their seafood tower has a bit of everything and will leave you wanting more (not because it wasn't enough but because it was so good). Located right across from the Hilton Checkers it is a great place for a drink and a bite after a long day working. Great service and plenty of seating rounds up a great experience. Can't go wrong with this choice.

We really wanted to love the Water Grill and came during DIneLA Week. The menu was quite interesting and robust and the amount of food is substantial when ordering off the DineLA menu. However, the service on a Saturday night was horrible. We were seated and placed in a booth in a back corner and then forgotten about for at least 30 minutes. We were going to a play at the Music Center so it's a good thing we built in extra time for delays. We asked for a carafe of water to be left at the table when we finally saw our server but was told that that was against restaurant policy, what?? The food was good at least- shrimp for the shrimp cocktail was very fresh and firm, the mahi mahi was delicious and done well. We had the bay scallops appetizer and those were also very good. Bread pudding dessert was a let down. All in all, lots of other places to try and we hope they get their service issues resolved.

The Water Grill is a favorite. The excellent selection of fresh oysters is impressive as are the cold selections of shellfish. I always order the Chilean Seabass in butter and garlic and I’m never disappointed. The Water Grill is expensive but the food and atmosphere justify the cost.

A bit of a mixed bag. Crab cakes were uninspired. Too much filling apart from the crab. A first class crab cake should have only the bare minimum..enough to hold it together and no more. The accompanying rémoulade was fine as was the celery salad. Dover sole (yes real Dover sole flown in that day) was most correct. Properly cooked, but the brown butter was to brown so that it had some black bits. 30 seconds too long on the flame. Wine list fairly priced.

Set inside the beautiful historical PacMutual building. A great bar filled surrounded by local business people grabbing a drink or dinner after work. A lot of "suits & ties", not so much families or couples on the weekdays. I too was there for a business dinner on the corporate account, so I got to order the best of the best from the menu. The crab legs were humongous and delicious. Good service. Definitley going back for the next business dinner.

Went after the LA marathon and had a very good breakfast. The Eggs Benedict with the Lemon Hollandaise was outstanding. So good. We also ordered the lox and bagel. This entree needed to be zhuzh up, I asked for sliced tomato. Good but not nearly as good the Eggs Benedict. The service was a 10 as is the interior. Lovely place.

Very nice looking restaurant, good service, lovely fresh oysters, excellent lobster roll. My friends' main courses also looked good, if perhaps not huge in terms of portion sizes.

Overpriced. Ordered the cioppino which at $30+ you would think is a highlight of the menu. No. The fish tasted like it was boiled in a pot of water then added to the broth at the end. No salt and WAY too much pepper. Everyone knows the joy of cioppino is dipping the bread in the broth. This soup is inedible. Tasted like watered down wing sauce. Just awful. I’ve been here a few times now and the best item continues to be the fresh baked bread. Keep the baker, send the rest of the “chefs” to Subway. Not worth the price of admission. Not even close. Go to Blue Plate or Oysterette or Bruno’s or...heck, anywhere else.

We had dinner at this beautiful restaurant a few steps from our Hotel The Millenium Biltmore. Very well prepared and delicious dishes, refined environment and impeccable service with attentive but never intrusive waiters. Medium-high prices, but worth it!

Great food experience with lobster roll and Chef Louie shrimp salad. We were greeted and seated promptly. Brief introduction to menu by server and beverages ordered and served promptly. One opportunity was for the server to check back after meals were served.

We visited the restaurant twice during our week in LA, and unfortunately, both times we were charged incorrectly. Once during dinner and once during lunch. Both times we brought it to their attention and were met with condescending attitudes as if it were our fault. The food was amazing and we enjoyed the atmosphere but would recommend always checking the ticket for incorrect higher charges.

We enjoy this restaurant as we travel to Santa Monica a couple times a year. Not amazing but certainly a very cool vibe.

Very good food and of course service was excellent. A nice place for a romantic dinner, business or birthday.

Went here on recommendation and were not impressed with the food. This downtown L.A. restaurant is quite attractive and very nicely decorated, I wished the food was as good. The food was just ok a the best, really nothing special. The service was painfully slow and not very good. All in all a disappointment and a real miss.

Food was fantastic here but took a really long time to get a new drink refilled and to get our dessert at the end of the night.

Great atmosphere, good dinner. Warm Bread, Good Fish and Excellent Raw Bar. Staff was friendly, waiter was professional and did a great job. Good Wine List and full bar.

Right across the road from Hilton Checkers this was a delightful find. Steak was tender and cooked to preference. The seafood stew was heaped with fish and shell fish and my husband’s cod and chips was among the best he has had and as he is from Britain he rated it above the fish and chips in Whitby. High praise indeed. Very attentive staff.

Great ambiance. The wait staff was very nice and attentive, and our food was delicious. We knew the fish was very fresh because they ran out of two types, but there were plenty of other options!

This is a restaurant that has to be experienced. All aspects our our groups experience was special. The wine and menu selections were many. If you love oysters, the selection read like a wine list with oysters from the best places on the planet. I had the King Crab and it was superb, plump, sweet and tasty. Simple to prepare but hard to get right.. The Water Grill did.......,.,,,,

Very nice restaurant , service was superb, atmosphere was nice . The food was outstanding fresh seafood . The waitress was very helpful with suggestions on what and how much to order

A fab restaurant along the seafront of Santa Monica. We did not have a reservation but were promptly seated and was served by Stephanie who was amazing! Very efficient, helpful with the menu choices and was super friendly! A credit to your staff. The food was delicious and has a large choice of seafood. Thank you Stephanie we highly recommend.

Arrived early but got a table by the window! It was awesome. Our waiter Nick was so helpful in deciding on what to order. And it as delicious! Watched the sunset and great for people watching. Would love to go again!

Went to the Water Grill for "Great Seafood". The oysters were great. The rest of the meal was horrible. The Ciopino was luke warm at best with soggy bread on the bottom. The dungenese crab was like a leftover from another plate. The halibut was dry and also cold. We abandoned dessert because it took so long to come. The server and manager tried their best to be accommodating and they should get credit for that but all we really wanted was good food. Considering the prices, there has to be better.

Every bit of our dining experience was great, from the service to the food. Just be ready- this place is a step up, price-wise. We got:: Fritto Misto 3.5/5 -pretty large plate! Just your average fried seafood plate Jumbo Crab Cake 5/5 -just what you'd expect... a massive crab cake over a "celery root remoulade". Pretty awesome Hawaiian Swordfish 4.5/5 -had a somewhat sweet taste that didn't mesh well with the salmon we ordered. We were on a quest for swordfish that day, so it was a must order! Overall super tasty. Faroe Island Salmon 5/5 -perfectly cooked, delicious salmon. If I didn't love almost everything else we got I'd say it was my favorite dish that night. Caramel Bread Pudding & Caramel Ice Cream 6/5 -I almost cried because I was too full to finish it... A warm caramel bread pudding topped with cold caramel ice cream... and sea salt with a caramel sauce. It was actually an impulse order because of the table next to us, but dang was it worth it. Overall, It was a fantastic experience and one I'll remember for a long time.

Great understated service from arriving to leaving. Sushi, swordfish and sea bass all excellent. Great choice of wine. Next time will try the shell fish.

Good restaurant with good service. Good assortment of oysters. We ate see food fish and chips, sashimi type tuna and lobster. The desert was not high quality. Good wines.

Went after work after doing some research and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The range of seafood was excellent - different types of oysters and other shellfish, and the halibut was delicious. Would also recommend the desert menu. The staff was friendly and range of wines was great. Would return when I am in town again.

I wasn’t hungry at all after a 13-hour flight and a corporate cocktail, but colleagues invited me for a bite. What a surprise it was to have it in the Water Grill! Great selection of oysters, seafood and fish! All elegantly served and well presented. Variety of beers, cocktails and drinks. Hot bread plate would force you start eating before dishes arrive. All we had was great: sword fish, tuna and cod. We also had rolls, tuna tar tar and shell fish to share. Amazing!

After a day of viewing museums and walking till I dropped I just wanted a seafood restaurant that I could have a good drink and great food. This place blew me away. The service/professionalism the ambiance and the food will get me coming back and back again. I am not in LA all that often but this restaurant will be a must stop on every trip. I had the Cioppino my wife had the Swordfish all worth ordering again. Although, I have to admit I like my Cioppino a little spicier than they served it, I loved it and would order it again.

My wife and I were fortunate to join another couple for dinner at the Water Grill. First class service with fresh seafood, excellently cooked entrees and an incredible wine list. Only regret is that we had a performance to attend so we did not linger. I think this is a place you select as the one "event" of the evening and enjoy the high-end fine dining offered.

My favorite restaurant of all time can't beat the food and drinks from this place atleast visit once when I go back home highly recommend if near the area

I was taken here on a dinner date, and was very impressed with the beautiful decor inside. Even with a reservation, however, we had to stand in line inside before we could be seated. I'm not sure why, because it didn't seem that crowded. Once seated, we enjoyed very good service by the young staff. Most of the patrons are older, with a sprinkling of younger folks, so I think the older set really enjoy this setting and type of food. The food is heavy, lots of butter. I ordered the Wild Ross Sea Bass, which was so tender it broke apart with a touch, and was literally soaked in butter. It came with very little else but a tiny bit of puree of squash. No vegetables to break up the heaviness of the main dish. The seafood here IS amazing, but for me, it was too heavy for my taste. They could serve some lightly steamed veggies with the main dish, as something green definitely was missing from this entre. That said, I had good company on my date, the ambience was very nice and I enjoyed my time here.

The fish served at this restaurant is truly remarkable. The sea bass leaves a lasting impression, as its light and fluffy texture melts in your mouth, offering a creamy and delightful experience.

After meeting my freind invite for small bite. We have best cocktail very firm and fresh Great music We have Mahi Mahi was very taste From bite to full Dinner Highly recommended

Seafood fine dining spot with multiple locations. Came here for dinner with my family on a weeknight before a concert and we had made a reservation online in advance. I got lucky finding a spot on the street but you might need to search for a bit or go with a paid lot. We had the calamari to share as an app; this was nicely crispy and paired well with the sauces they provided. We had an organic mixed greens salad (gotta be healthy) and they provided warm rolls with flaky salt and butter (loved that). I had the Trojan roll and the bluefin toro tartare but I may had been too ambitious after the apps ordered. Both were delicious but one would have sufficed for a meal. My dad had the soft shell crab and my sister had the lobster roll; I particularly liked the buttery roll used. For dessert, we had the chocolate cake which came with a side of ice cream. It was small but thick and rich, so the three of us easily shared it. Our waiter was super friendly and on top of things. There was an altercation with an unhoused individual who came in but security was on the premises and de-escalated the situation. Overall, a great meal for special occasions or business.

Beautiful place at the Ocean Drive. But staff less friendly as San Diego few days before. The dood is great and the view to the streets and ocean stunning. But the service was poor. Too slow and no attentions.

I took a dish of supposedly fresh halibut. I got a iper spiced small portion of halibut with roasted corn: $42. I was hungry and I had it. Limited menu. Not worth the price

If you want very fresh fish and to rub shoulders with the power suits in DTLA, then Water Grill is the place for you. Not cheap, but at least the food is good and you'll feel like you coulda been somebody. Check out the Library while you are in the area.

I was happy I stopped in. This place looked like what I needed at the time and I was not disappointed. I had shrimp cocktail and raw tuna crudo (raw - look it up). It was REALLY good! I also had good samples of some beer on tap and some solid wine suggestions. I went with the beer. Service was slow but ultimately really good and professional. The bar was very comfortable for a single dining experience. I was in LA for work and didn't want to go through reservations, etc. I can give a good rec for Water Grill in downtown LA! Enjoy!

The oysters were delicious and our waiter was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The menu has great variety. They also have an extensive cocktail selection and you can’t beat the atmosphere!

Getting ready to go to a Clippers game need to find something to eat fast, we ended up at Water Grill. Overall the restaurant was average nothing notable, but the price was high for the experience to be just average. The atmosphere was good; my steak was just OK, the mashed potatoes were good but not great. Overall, I am not sure I would go back for dinner unless I was rushing for time and the Water Grill was the only restaurant available. The bathrooms were clean. We did go back just to try the dessert because I wanted something sweet and confirmed my feelings of “Just Average.” It was just “Average.”

First, I was raised in the restaurant business & know good food & service. I don’t mind paying $$$ for good food, but Water Grill food prices are worth the finished product. The restaurant would look better with white tablecloths & dressed up servers to warrant their pricing. The bread served at the table was boring & not nearly as good as it should be. Plain butter is served with it rather than butter blended with another ingredient. Our fritter appetizer was ok. I ordered crab cakes & the polenta side. The crab cakes were so so but, were cold! I had to send them back for reheating. The polenta dish was warm but, not hot. This should never happen in a restaurant of this level. They comped my polenta...big deal you missed the whole point. My wife had sea base which said was ok but, nothing special. I’m not sure what other TP folks saw here that was worth a 4 star plus rating. We would certainly not return. I will say the host & hostess were excellent. I wish the rest of the process was this good. Oh, one more tidbit, the men’s room class door was stained & in real need of a good cleaning. This was right after the restaurant opened for dinner & everything should have been A1. My guess is this door has looked this way for sometime. Where is the pre-opening walk thru the managers should be doing!

Although I fell in love with Water Grill in Santa Monica, here I had a completely different experience. They need to change their waiters. They forgot my order. I had to order again. Not very welcoming. They suggested that I choose my place by myself.

The place is very busy and have good fresh seafood. It’d better to reserve. The black cod and sea bass was really good. The lobster roll wasn’t a good option though.

Lovely dinning experience! The bread was to die for. We had the Cold Shellfish Platter. Black Cod, and Chilean Sea Bass. They were simply outstanding. The service was also outstanding as Lexie and Christopher took excellent care of us. This dinning experience lived up to the reviews.

I went to Water Grill based on all the good reviews. It is overcrowded, noisy and I have never seen tables so close together. Ordered the highly recommended $47 sea bass which came with squash gnocchi around the plate. The fish was small but good and the gnocchi and sauce were cold and unappetizing. Ruined the plating. The man at the table next to me ordered the cioppino and his was served cold also. Service was very slow, it felt like torture sitting there, I couldn’t wait to leave.

Really great seafood and excellent service. The restaurant was really nice and the atmosphere was very welcoming and positive!

Love the food and the atmosphere. Adore the cocktails and have never had a bad meal here. The service is also great.

Coming here seeing all the good reviews, and then seeing the place, we entered with high hopes. Unfortunately, we must have ordered the wrong dishes. I had fish tacos and clams. Tacos were all fried bread, very little fish. The clams were the larger "made in china" ones that had big bellies but little flavor in spite the bright yellow curry type sauce. My daughter had the Miso soup which was so salty even the waitress said she tried it and agreed it was no good. Worst was my son orderd the filet mignon medium rare, but it came out medium well with black burned edges, even the waitress said the kitchen messed up so they brought a new one which was cooked better but the meat had little flavor and was very tough, which is odd. Overall, it's a great spot to have a beer or wine, but I wouldn't go to eat food, but maybe the oysters as they had a huge selection, but many were already wide open on ice...

We went to lunch on the way back from The Broad. I went in without making any reservations, but it was very crowded inside. I had the impression that there were many businessmen. We shared a fish taco and a roll of sushi together, and we split a piece of cheesecake between us because we thought we could still eat it, which was just fine. The atmosphere in the restaurant was also calm and nice.

First clue was when we walked in and were “greeted” by the host, Arrogant is the only word that describes this guy. Gave him my name and our reservation time, he directed us to the corner and said he had other people to deal with that had reservations before ours. So we waited while he did whatever he does, we were called back up and shown to a booth, I requested a table but I was informed they were all taken even though we walked by numerous empty tables. My wife and I ordered a cocktail (which took awhile) ,only one drink showed up and the waiter acted offended when asked to deliver the other drink we ordered. Waitress couldn’t remember who had still or sparkling water, ended up with both in our glasses.service in general was slow and choppy. Food was just ok, awfully pricey for ordinary food. King crab nuggets were sawed up crab legs, small ones at that. Sea bass and halibut were both fine but nothing special. Best dish of the meal was my daughters scallops. So in summary; slow/bad service, ordinary food, premium prices. Pass on Water Grille

Three of us went here for lunch. Pleasant service, long wine list and first class seafood. we all had different starters and entrees and all were good.

if I have a chance to come back to LA I will be visiting the Water Grill again, excellent choice in dishes, very light and I absolutely loved it:)

if you want seafood and you are in DTLA, this has to be one of your stops. the staff are very attentive and very knowledgeable of the menu. and great to suggest the freshest and newest selections on and not on the menu. it was a bit pricey but well worth if....i went for a business meal/meeting and it prompted me to bring my wife for date nite the next week....go, enjoy yourselves you wont regret it

I visited Water Grill and had a nice experience. The restaurant has a fancy vibe and the seafood dishes were delicious. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. the prices are a bit high and it can get noisy. I recommend it for a special occasion but suggest adding more affordable options and addressing the noise level.

We came here for a few drinks on a day where they were very busy. They were more than happy to accommodate us at a bar of our choice. The view was fantastic, the staff were super friendly and the drinks were lovely. It was extremely popular and the food looked really good.

A fabulous lunch, close to Biltmore hotel. Lobster roll was fabulous as was the oysters Rockefeller, and fresh shallops. Together with outstanding fresh warm bread rolls and a nice bottle of wine ..... a perfect holiday late lunch. Attentive server and management . Bright nicely done atmosphere . Worth a visit.

A rich and tasteful menu right form the ocean; competent service, the right atmosphere; a perfect spot for lunch or dinner when on business or leisure. Go there!

Perfect combination of food and service....Celebrating our anniversary and the staff went to extra lengths to make the experience special. My wife had the sea bass and I the new york strip. We were both very satisfied with the quality and presentation of the meal. Complementary champagne and desert topped off the meal. This wasn't my first time at the Water Grill and it won't be the last.....

If you are looking for fresh seafood and shell fish, this is the place! Amazing side dishes as well! Polenta was Ammazing! Beware, it is quite pricy and all fish dishes are relatively small (and I mean really small) .

We stopped in for lunch and were shocked by the quality! My salad with ahi tuna had canned cannelloni beans and canned harticort vert. It also had sardines with tuna. None of the flavors went together. It was disgusting! My daughter’s food tasted as though it was out of an instant package. Stay away! There are so many great options in Santa Monica. This isn’t one of them.

Water Grill is a top seafood restaurant offering a high end dining experience in an upscale setting. The menu features a variety of fresh and quality seafood dishes prepared with precision. The exemplary service and elegant ambiance create a luxurious dining atmosphere. prices may be on the higher side, and the restaurant can get busy during peak hours. It is a great choice for seafood enthusiasts looking for a special dining experience.

Every single aspect of our visit was exceptional! Champagne was icy cold and bubbly! Salads were "tossed" not doused! Fish expertly prepared. All sides were excellent. AC worked great. SERVICE WAS PERFECT. One member of our party has severe food allergies and our server took them very seriously! Not enough room for dessert but I would bet it was perfect too!

The choice of oysters was outstanding. And taste was the best I have ever experienced. The sea bass was phenomenal and the giant crab claws were something of legendary proportion. The service was top notch and all in all, we had an amazing experience. Highly recommended A*

We were very impressed with this restaurant. We were made to feel welcomed when we arrived, The service was exceptional through out the meal. The menu had plenty of variety BUT without doubt the "piece de resistance" is the Oyster sample plate. It was superb!. Ignore the rest of the menu and feast on the oysters.

I had heard this was a good restaurant. I was excited to go with my husband to enjoy a nice lunch. There were many issues with the menu and the staff. Without going into details we finally ordered and I was very disappointed with the quality of the fish. It was either frozen or old but I know Chilean sea bass is very soft and flaky. This fish was hard and not tasty. I was very disappointed.

This is a lovely looking restaurant but I did have trouble finding the hostess desk as did numerous others I saw arriving. Service started off really well with a friendly waiter making recommendations. I ordered a crab cake. It had a generous amount of crab but it tasted greasy. The halibut was very good, seriously good. The portion was large, well cooked and it was simply a delicious plate. I had a lot of food so I opted with encouragement opt to take dessert back to the hotel with ma. I am not sure why but I had difficulty obtaining a check. The waiter was very busy with numerous tables. I did see some managers or the like but could not catch their attention: I was able to get some attention finally. My hotel was about 3 minutes walk away and by the time I got there my a la mode was pure liquid. Proof I waited ages for the bill. The bread pudding was delicious. I would go back just for that. Pity about the service, the halibut and pudding would be worth a second visit.

Had dinner at the water grill on a Saturday night. The restaurant was super crowded. We were seated by the kitchen. Tables so close to each other I almost felt like I was part of the next table, family of 8 or 10! The back and forth by waiters to kitchen coupled the less than ideal dining experience. We ordered the bacon cheeseburger and lobster roll. Both were delicious. Barman makes great cocktails. I gave a 4 star for the lack of privacy and overcrowdedness.

Visited this restaurant for dinner on May 16th 2023 when I was in LA, USA 🇺🇸 I liked the ambience and though it is renowned and was crowded but the service was very courteous and fortunately that day newly weds had come there with there friends and family. The choice of their sa food is vast and have fresh sea food as you can see their giant crabs 🦀 swimming in their sea tanks. Their choice of fish 🐟 prawns 🦐 lobsters 🦞 are vast and for sea food lovers it was a real treat to the palate and a visit here is really worth it Dr. Javed Rasheed

Sometimes I think I eat out too much... then I stumble on places like this and am grateful I hate cooking Had an excellent experience from start to finish. I got the New England clam chowder and the pan-seared sea bass, and both were outstanding. The service was attentive without feeling rushed, and the atmosphere was upscale but still comfortable. This is easily one of the best seafood meals I’ve had in a while and a spot I’d highly recommend for a nice dinner out.

Group of 7 if us attended having a mixture of seafood to begin and steaks or pasta for mains I had the Mac N Cheese side which was awful and at $16 was an utter waste of money. I have eaten better microwave ready meals My $39 piece of salmon was also undercooked and a terrible waste of money. At $850 for 7 of us I expected more and left underwhelmed

What a super place to eat! Water Grill serves there guests the best fish I have eaten in years.. Oysters from various countries and areas. The Wellfleet one was the best! Small size and very tastfull. We had a wonderful dinner with the 4 of us. Great steaks as well and good children menu! Everybody happy. The quality and informal atmosphere makes this place a must be.

Our party of four visited the Water Grill for an early Friday evening dinner, ahead of theater at the nearby Ahmanson. Once known and respected as one of downtown LA’s better restaurants, our dining experience at the Water Grill was sadly disappointing. Our server seemed knowledgable and attentive. Unfortunately, the kitchen seemed not to pay attention to details. The signature house Mac ‘N Cheese, ordered as a side dish, was initially delivered as an appetizer, was sent back to the kitchen, never to return with our entrees. The shrimp in the Cioppino arrived with heads, tails, and legs: appropriate, perhaps, for steamed shrimp eaten at the bar or as an appetizer, but truly difficult and messy when submerged the tomato broth of a fish stew. Only the fish ‘n chips seemed satisfactory to our group. We talked with the server and manager about our disappointing dining experience and received the usual apologies and pro forma offer not to charge us for the Cioppino.

One of the best seafood restaurants; a great wine collection; they have another location in Santa Monica as well; highly recommended.

I am not big on seafood but Water Grill could turn me into one. Our party of four ordered lots of oysters. Fresh, briny, delicious. We ended up eating a dozen each. Then we had stone crab claws, Santa Barbara spotted prawns, Dover sole. Everything was delicious, served courteously and promptly.

Staying at The Biltmore Hotel and decided to come here for dinner - which is just next door . The place was crowded for dinner but we managed to get a seat at the bar which was nice too seeing how the seafood was prepared. Ordered a seafood platter for 2, an addition half crab and sashimi. The seafood was Super fresh !! The raw scallops especially naturally ‘sweet, not a fab of oysters usually but the ones prepared were just fresh with no strong ‘taste’ . Crab was also meaty. Had an excellent dinner and the prices are value for this standard of seafood . The cheese bread was also nice . A place to visit if you are In DTLA and love seafood .

Water Grill is very loud. We had reservations for 8 pm and they were running an hour and a half or more behind with no place to sit in the bar or wait for our table. Since they had taken our charge ahead of time to guarantee their payment, we were stuck waiting. It was New Year’s Eve, they should have spaced the reservations out. The hostess was really curt. When we finally secured a seat at the bar, it took 10 minutes for the bartender to ask if we wanted anything and another 10 for him to bring us a bar menu. Our table server never brought us water or bread until we asked. We understand them being busy, but it was not gracious hospitality. For the price they charged, service should have been better along with the attitudes. This was a $400 dinner for two with a couple of glasses of wine. It wasn't worth that. The food was fine.

Awesome fresh seafoods were served! Much appreciated for the introduction and good service from the waiters

Absolutely fantastic, the meal was one of the best I’ve had in a long time, the bread at the start is gorgeous. Staff were helpful and patient as we were not sure what to choose. If I lived here I’d absolutely be back regularly. Cocktails are good too. Totally recommend

Very good atmosphere and food, but the prices are extravagant. Depending on the event/meeting, this may be a great option or it may be overpriced.

The service was excellent throughout the entire evening. Our waiter was helpful and the wine steward helped us pick a great wine to pair with my wife's cioppino and my sea bass. Would highly recommend.

Checked into our hotel (Omni) and asked for recommendations- didn't really like anything we were given, so checked our trusty, go-to TripAdvisor! This restaurant was less than I mile walk, so got lucky and snagged an early reservation and took a chance! GREAT! Just wonderful food, and a very pleasant and efficient waiter. Would highly recommend if you are in the area.

You’re in Orange County. You want to feel like you’re in Orange County, surrounded by beautiful people drinking fancy cocktails, poking at Poke. You want to come here. Just saying....

We went for dinner and the location is very nice and next to the Biltmore Hotel. The service was good the food was very good but the prices were somewhat high. Oysters were fresh and the fish cooked very well. Not sure would be a special attempt to return.

I had a great night tonight. I am here passing through Los Angeles from Italy. For us, the quality of the food is fundamental. Well this evening I ate divinely, drank incredibly and the quality of service is unparalleled. Thank you

A great seafood experience. Oysters prepared to perfection. A loud and busy place but worth it. Great Bar menu and wine selection.

Every time I visit my daughter in DTLA, i have to eat here. Its becoming to be a tradition. Each time, I would order the Cioppino, it's the best! We have probably eaten most of the cooked menu here like sea bass, lobster roll (my son-in-law's favorite), salmon, calamari, etc. All are fresh and delicious. Of course our meal will not be complete without the cocktails, which are all delicious paired with the seafood meal. We always go for the Castaway, maritime Mule, Grand Avenue. Can't wait for my next visit.

Great business dinner spot and even for family gatherings over the weekend. To start, Icelandic Cod Fish tacos, Spanish Wild Octopus, Spicy Lobster Roll, Trojan Roll. Prime New York Steak Strip for the non-seafood foodie in the group, to share Atlantic Cod Fish & Chips, and Roasted Brussel Sprouts. We also heard that Seafood Platter is a good selection for lunch, which we had to try on our next visit.

Centrally located in a beautifil building. Service was superior. Fresh seafood with a very comprehensive menu.

Our party of 3 couldn’t ask for a better evening, atmosphere, service and food. Located in downtown LA, it was an easy walk from our hotel that we were staying at. The restaurant was fairly busy for a Sunday 7:00 reservation. Tyler was our server, very personable and efficient made our evening very enjoyable. We ordered cocktails while perusing the extensive 4 page menu. Cocktails were spot on! We ended up wanting to try a little of everything so we ordered appetizers to share: Fried Calamari, Oysters Rockefeller and a Caesar Salad. Entree ordered were the Chilean Sea Bass, 1/2 dozen Chincoteagu Oysters with 1 Honeymooner. All the food came out, presentation very nice, hot or very chilled and all tasting excellent. The Calamari fried to a perfect golden with 2 delicious sauces. Oyster Rockefeller was good. Chilean Sea Bass was fantastic! The 1/2 Chincoteagu Oysters were so fresh and good along with the Honeymooner. Atmosphere: very nice. Service: excellent. Food: excellent.

The atmosphere was great. The host & the waiter/server were very amicable, energetic & friendly. Overall I’d highly recommend this restaurant. A little pricey but worth every penny. My wife and I had a clam chowder soup and a crab cake appetizer. First time ever having a clam chowder with real clams and shells. It was very tasty. The crab cake was also delicious.

There is a lot of hype these days about the “cool” factor of downtown and all of the great new restaurants. True—there are many new offerings, but most are trendy without substance. The Water Grill is as wonderful as it was when it opened 30 years ago. Superb seafood, lovely surroundings, great cocktails and professional staff. Try the rest—you’ll come back for the best.

Too bad, since the decor here is classicly nice. During several visits the service has been very slow and the food took way too long with no explanation or apology. The seafood is of good quality, but not worth the aggravation of the bad service. There are plenty of better places downtown now.

We met a friends who works near there for lunch. First, the service was excellent. We arrived early and the fellow who took care of us brought bread as we waited. Once our friend arrived we had lots of help with the menu. There s an extensive raw but we weren't interested in that menu. My friend and I got the Shrimp Bahn Mi. We both loved it. My husband got the grilled halibut. Perfectly cooked but had a good bit of spicy seasoning. If you're sensitive to that, you might want to let your server know, Still, I'd say if you're in downtown LA and love seafood, go for it!

Ohhh my god!!!!!! The best lobster and the best king crab, the place is amazing and the ambient is just perfect, but the service is incredible, I was in the bar by muself and Danny did my day, all I can say is thank god to have this experience

Our first visit was for dinner, food was pretty good and the server was excellent. I had the Sea Bass and my wife the salmon both were well presented and tasty, also reasonably priced. We had been so impressed that we decided to return a couple of days later for lunch. This time not so good, my better half had the halibut cheeks, it appeared to be one "cheek" cut into small pieces and overwhelmed with parmesan cheese and basil. I had the full Dungeness crab, definitely the worst crab I have ever had, very dry, old and salty. In retrospect I should have sent it right back not sure why I didn't it was really awful. I would go here again but don't hesitate to complain if you aren't happy

This is a wonderful place for a Saturday lunch. Try the oyster sampler. The service was excellent and not intrusive.

Excellent seafood restaurant and really friendly service I didn’t have a reservation but was quickly seated. The menu is extensive and predominantly seafood. I chose oysters, halibut cheeks in a delicious fennel and cream sauce and, on the advice of the server, red king crab legs with w butter and coleslaw- not cheap but absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend the Water Grill.

Fantastic food I had the mixed green salad and whole Black Sea bass, others at my table had king crab legs, mashed potatoes and lobster and Stella beer. Accommodated us without a reservation and short wait time. Thanks for the experience

If there was a seafood heaven... this would be it! And the bread my lord. Not just a dinner spot. Had the most amazing lunch for business. Yes they have more than seafood but why would you order anything but. The price not nuts but not cheap. Worth every penny. Come on you deserve it

We went here with a large group of friends on a Thursday night and the place was buzzing with young and trendy people. The oysters for starters are great, and we were surprised to see our vegetarian friend could also be taken care of. Good wine menu, good desserts, great salds.

this is an amazing seafood restaurant with great service, a bit expensive but worth the money if you are in tthe neighborhood!

This great restaurant checked all of our criteria for outstanding restaurants. Flawless and fun service, great ambiance, and of course the seafood was as good as it gets. Expensive, but worth every penny for a great experience.

Water Grill is a culinary gem that offers an unparalleled seafood dining experience in the heart of the city. From the impeccable service to the exquisite menu offerings, every aspect of the dining experience is designed to delight and impress. Whether you're a seafood aficionado or simply looking for an unforgettable meal, Water Grill is sure to exceed your expectations.

We keep coming back to Water Grill and there is a reason for that - Great Food, great location, great service and great service. We love the incredibly large menu choices that also go beyond seafood. We loved our server, Veronica and Patrick Milbourne, the manager, stopped by our table to introduce himself.

I had heard great things about the Water Grill so, I decided to get them a try... The atmosphere was pleasant, service was attentive, and food was well prepared but portion size was a bit skimpy. Even after ordering additional salad with bread before my main entree, I still went away from my lunch feeling hungry. I think this restaurant merits another try because they have all the components of an outstanding establishment!

Was very good food and service, we really enjoyed it. Had the lobster roll which was very tasty. Slightly more expensive than expected but was fine.

We went for dinner: crab cakes and fish and chips! Both were very nice, particularly the crab cakes. The cod looked small but was really thick. Very nice. Wine was expensive. Service was very good and a nice atmosphere.

All the way around best I have seen in a long time. Sergio at the bar friendly, Knowledgeable and professional. Atmosphere just say class. Oysters fresh and very good. Halibut was cooked perfect and tasted out of this world. Priced right for the quality and service. Only downside as with most west coast oyster bars no crackers guess it a east coast thing to eat oysters on saltine crackers. All in all one of the best dining experiences I have had in several months. I do not rate many 5s but this place is a FIVE!!

This downtown standard was a delight. To have excellent service should be a given (but since it is so rare it should be noted). Amber was so intuitively personal with her top notch recommendations that dining finally became a joy again. The simplicity of the sourdough rolls with a dash of sea salt made the glass of Tattinger reminiscent of an Arcachon summer. The California Monterey Black spot prawns were heaven. Oyster sampler selections on point. Perhaps it is the shadow of Cimarusti that keeps this place one of excellence. While one could be tempted to compare it to Farallon (RIP) in SF - Water Grill is eminently more accessible and truly delicious (plus the interiors are handsome).

Back after 8 years and found this place as memorable as the last time. We happened to go for dinner the opening night of Dine LA week, the special menu was already presented and we had a wonderful meal and excellent service. The restaurant was pretty full, and it looked like everyone was ordering off the a la carte menu, we saw lobster and crab legs among other delicious dinners at the tables. Water Grill is a little on the pricey side but entirely worth it.

Great dinner here! Environment, service and food were all excellent. Swordfish entre was great. My wife got two appetizers for her meal (octopus and mussels); these were great and each was almost a meal in itself.

The food was very good but our waitress wasn’t professional and the restaurant itself was very loud and talking was very hard

Service, ambiance and THE best scallops we have ever had. Cooked to perfection! Warm, friend space and bar. Well lit, but cozy.

We were visiting our son who lives in LA, and he had the Water Grill in his wishlist. I must say that I was disappointed by it. The menu is very complete and the ambiance is great. However, the quality of the food and the service is not what I was expecting. The food is simply okay and the service was very slow. Our dishes came at different times and not cooked how we wanted.

welcomes it very positively , the service is impeccable, very good sushi and especially the bread which is surprising sweet and salty. the only thing I will notice is the Awards a little high and the dessert a little too sweet... otherwise everything else is good

This was a great spot to celebrate our anniversary. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The food was prepared perfectly. Excellent scallops for me and sea bass for the wife. Very good wine selections. Tasty and delicious desserts. Special thanks to our waiter Carlos. Can’t wait to return for more.

I have lunch at the water Grill regularly (work downtown). It is generally good and reliable. Today was disappointing. Had the Lobster Roll with fries. The fries came out cold. I sent them back. Instead of bringing fresh fries back, they threw the old ones back in the fryer, and brought them back (overly cooked). Wouldn't even expect this at a Waffle House

We decided to splurge a bit and attend a nice dinner while in Los Angeles. The Water Grill did not disappoint. The inside of the restaurant is very nice and the restaurant is in a great location in downtown LA. The food was excellent and the service was very good as well. The restaurant was a bit noisy but we did not mind. Overall it was a great experience.

This is the most beautiful hotel! It was built in 1923, fell into disrepair in the '70's, was renovated. It is like being in the Sistine Chapel! Enormously tall ceilings, all of which are painted or host intricate arches and beams. It is magnificent. Every hallway, lobby, ballroom is a thing of beauty. Our room was classically furnished, gorgeous crown molding around the ceilings. It is not the hippest, most modern hotel you'll ever stay in but the CHARACTER it oozes is amazing. It is also famous for the many movies and TV shows there. There are photos along the walls starting in the 30's when they hosted the first Academy Awards. Vintage shots of Bette Davis, Gary Cooper, etc etc at the hotel, and in the upstairs halls photos of current movies shot there (Austin Powers, Ghostbusters, etc.) Not a lot of shops in the area but there were some cute lunch places. It is one of a kind.

Gotta love this place! The staff was so friendly and amazing, the food is super fresh and really well thought out, a wonderful experience, each time.

Its been a while since I visited Water Grill's first location in Downtown LA next to the Biltmore Hotel. First there is a valet parking lot that adjoins the building so its very easy in and out where you don't even have to access the sidewalk or outside. Once inside the restaurant, you will experience the ultimate customer service as they really want to win you over as a frequent diner and it shows. The entire staff are very outgoing, friendly, informed and accommodating. What more can you ask for? I loved that my server knew all the ingredients and helped me navigate around the veal juices that the chef adds to some fish dishes (for some reason, wish he/she didn't use meat!), I ordered the Mahi Mahi which was served Caponata style and was so darn delicious. The fish itself was perhaps the best I've had in a very long time. We also ordered the wedge salad (sans bacon of course!) which was wonderful and the Brussel Sprouts side dish which they were also able to make sans bacon (thankfully!). Every bite was a burst of flavor. The pairing to a fine Riesling capped off the meal. I will be back often both here and in SaMo as the experience was A+ all around. Its a classy downtown location good for family, friends, romantic or even business meals.

Excellent fish restaurant. Super recommended for its elegant environment and the kind staff. Wide choice of catch of the day cooked in many different succulent styles

The meal was pretty pricey. We had two fillets, which we ordered as medium. One was a little over cooked and the other was undercooked, almost raw. The manager offered to reheat the steak that was under cooked. However that would disrupt the flow of our meal and usually when meat is reheated it comes back over cooked. Wished the manager had offered two drinks or deserts on the house to show good faith, as reheating as he suggested was not a solution to something that needed to be done correctly the first time. The place smelled like days old fish. Because of that we elected not to order seafood.

Great seafood. Close to the Biltmore, this Grill also served me a great steak. The restaurant is linked to other Water Grill restaurants. The waiter gave us good insights into the sourcing practices which they have to provide fressh ingredients.

A compliment for the palate: fresh seafood restaurant combined with very pleasant service. The oyster varieties are extremely varied!

I was deployed to LA with the Red Cross, and the Water Grill was close by. I remembered I had been before. As an Alaskan seafood lover I was in heaven. I must of visited the restaurant 5-6 times over 2 weeks as it was within walking distance to the hotel. Chef Peter, Manger Olivia, and bartenders Chima and Johnny were terrific. I had oysters, shrimp, fish, salads, sushi rolls, wine, and beer over my visits. The king salmon with farro risotto - that risotto was a new one for me - and the fish cooked perfectly. Chef Peter recommended the sea bass - incredible and cooked to again to perfection.. Two Red Cross volunteers came in as I was finishing my dinner there my last night in LA, sat with me, ordered their meals, and Oliva came over to say hello. To my friend’s delight, Chef Peter came out to talk to them. They were over the over the moon.

Popped in and really surprised, huge selection of fresh seafood! With a fruits da mer to die for! Wished I would have read the whole menu first, before choosing my main course!

Water Grill is an upscale seafood restaurant located in downtown Los Angeles. I have eaten there before and have been impressed by the quality of their seafood preparation. I returned recently for dinner and had a somewhat less successful experience. I started with Manila clams which were excellent; properly cooked in a very flavorful broth, they could not have been better. I followed that with a sea bass entree. The bass did not come as a whole entity, but rather in three nugget-like and nugget-sized pieces, one larger than the other two. I don't know if this presentation was intentional or if they were left-overs. Whatever the reason the result was that the pieces cooked unevenly, the larger being under-cooked and the smaller two being over-cooked. There is not much room for error with sea bass and whoever cooked this missed the mark. Service was excellent. The restaurant is fairly expensive and the entree left me with mixed feelings, not nearly as positive as prior meals.

Went yesterday to meet friends. If you are looking for an elegant restaurant in the middle of downtown this is it. The food is fresh and wonderfully presented. There is an oyster bar. The staff are lovely, from the greeter to the servers (thanks Mo). Expensive yes but worth it. We had the Ahi salad, Shrimp Louie, and sea bass. Although I’m not a sea bass person the fish was tasty and not fishy. The rolls that came with it were soft and delicious. We did not have wine but their selection is incredible and showcased in a decorative way. Need an island of good food and elegant dining in the downtown area..this is it.

Food was delicious, our waitress was very nice. Dessert was so good. The food runner has a poor attitude, never picked up empty dishes. He placed our dishes at edge of table and walked away, found out later he’s been working for near 20 years. Poor attitude, lousy service, that’s why he’s still a runner. I just can’t believe it happened at Water Grill.

Best oysters ever! The rest of the menue also interesting and dishes really nice! Good selection of wine!!!

The food was absolutely delicious. Wine was great and they even offered a glass of champagne on the house because I was celebrating my birthday. However the highlight of the night was our waitress Rowan. She was exceptional. Based on the service and food, I highly recommend. I will be returning the next time I am in LA.

This place wildly overestimated their abilities to serve customers and double booked the amount of reservations they should have taken for Valentine's dinner. That means that most people who thought they were going to enjoy a nice Valentine's Day meal with their significant other wound up getting there, having to wait in a huge line just to check in, only to be told that even with a reservation the wait was then up to 45 minutes. Tons of disgruntled couples and groups were standing around in their minimal waiting area (or outside) grumbling about the terrible service by the hostesses (who didn't seem to know anything about when reservations would be honored), and the lack of awareness by management that they were screwing up so many peoples' Valentine's plans in their apparent greed to take every reservation anyone tried to make regardless of if they could actually handle them or not. We left without even having a Valentine's Day dinner, thanks for nothing Water Grill - we won't be back again and I wouldn't recommend them for ANY night if they are such screw ups on an important night like Valentine's.

Years ago, we frequented this restaurant often. It had the best seafood in an elegant setting in L.A. Now that we're living nearby, we decided to go back, knowing that changes had been made. Reservation was promptly acknowledged. Seated in the middle of a VERY noisy room that was not even completely filled. It was difficult talking to my guest sitting right next to me, requiring both of us, as well as everyone around us, to have to shout at each other to be heard. Waiter was attentive and helpful. Bread was served almost immediately, even before the nicely prepared cocktails. We were a party of 2. Shared a "Shellfish Platter-Grand". It took at least 30 minutes (probably more but I wasn't counting) to get the Platter. Well-sized for 2, it came with multiple dipping sauces but no explanation of what each sauce was. Good start to the meal. We had 2 entrees: Scallop Succotash and Black Cod Kabayaki. The scallops were the better of the 2 but neither was particularly memorable, not bad but not special. We had a side of fries that were good. Throughout the evening another waiter hovered over the table next to us loudly discussing metaphysics with the customers: not professional. I really enjoy desserts but was in no mood to extend the evening here. Sad.

Water Grill in Los Angeles exceeded all expectations. The sophisticated ambiance and attentive service set the stage for a memorable evening. The highlight was the impeccably prepared seafood dishes, bursting with flavor. The wine selection was impressive, and the staff provided excellent recommendations. Overall, Water Grill offers a top-notch dining experience that I highly recommend for any occasion.

Great restaurant if you could afford the prices. Be careful when ordering any salad that include heirloom tomatoes. 90% of the time the tomatoes that came out in the salad is just vine tomatoes

Had a decent light dinner which was so-so when it came to the food. We had a few apps and none were 'amazing', at best OK. I was told that the place was great, but I wouldn't put it there. I will say that we were not rushed and that was delightful.

Very friendly staff and good services. Super tasty and fresh oysters. Big size of little neck clams. Wine list is big too.

We had a great meal. Our seating was delayed, but the staff kept us informed and even had food ready when sat down. The food was very good. All of the appetizers and main courses were well received. We had exceptional service throughout the night.

Water Grill is an upscale seafood restaurant in downtown Los Angeles. It is comfortable with the right amount of energy. I had an early dinner there on a Friday evening. I asked for a half-circle booth and the hostess was kindly gave me one. She had a friendly smile. My server Brandan was friendly and attentive. He patiently explained their menu. The king crab legs were above average, yet still slightly salty for me. I tried three types of oysters including Kumamoto, John’s River, and Carlsbad Blondes. These oysters were below average. The New England Clam Chowder was average. The clams were with shells. It was interesting but had very few clam meats. Overall, it was a nice dinner and I certainly will visit again.

I stopped in for dinner during a recent business meeting as this looked like my kind of place. It is. I had the Sable fish (pacific black cot or Hawaiian butterfish- all the same I believe) in a spicy miso over soba noodles. Yum. A side of grilled asparagus with fresh garlic and herbs completed a perfect meal. The broth is just a bit too spicy for most people, but I enjoyed it thoroughly! Topped off with Odette Estate Cabernet Sauvignon (yes I know you’re supposed to have white wine, but this paired well with the spicy broth on the sable fish, and it’s Odette Estate by the glass! Wow), it was one of my more perfect meals.

Not a lot of choices for pre-theater dinner venue at the time we needed. This is old school, yes, but the fresh fish is terrific and the choices wide. The menu is up there in complicated, disorganized and downright confusing, and the wait person was not at all helpful...she just wanted to get the job done. Not impressed by service. Took forever to get our cocktails, but the rest of the meal was served well. I had the salmon which was quite a large piece with a wonderful crust, was undercooked but no one came by to ask. Fresh tuna and lupe de mare also good. Sides are pretty skimpy but enjoyed the broccolini, mashed potatoes. Disappointing Caesar salad starter...wasn’t mixed adequately leaving gobs of dressing stuck to too many now inedible pieces, but the Romaine was the bottom leaf, so what I could eat had crunch; the croutons were not good...too big and too dry. Yes, good fish, and yes, convenient to the theater, but lots of missteps make good quality food compromised.

Cosy location even if not very bright. Good staff and service. The wine was not good and the fried squid, breaded badly and super fried, with a disgusting flavour. Sea bream and lobster soup, on the other hand, very good. All in all, not bad.

This is one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in a long time. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. Carlos is more of a concierge than a server. He’s got a passion for the menu and made the meal an experience by making some great recommendations. The Chilean Sea Bass, Black Cod and Dover Sole were all incredible. The Salmon and the lobster sushi rolls were a great way to kick off our dinner and set the tone for the evening. Kudos to Carlos and all that assisted with the service we received. Cheers to the the kitchen staff because we all enjoyed every bite.

Oyster where superb. As were the two seafood entrees I had on back-to-back visits. Great service, nice atmosphere.

Came for my husband's birthday and had extremely excellent service from waiter Rowan. She was a delight, very friendly and accomodating. One of the best waiters we have ever had.

Met up with my girlfriend while I was in town working, what a great place, a little pricey but honestly quality service, food and atmosphere made it worth it. Extra dirty martini=check, amazing appetizers=check, fantastic bartender=check! I'll be back soon!

My husband has eaten here before so no surprises for him, I however was blown away by the freshness of the seafood on offer. The Selction of oysters, scallops, clams etc. is extrodinary and I’ve never had better urchin, anywhere. Good selection of raw, chilled and cooked dishes on the menu, extensive seating, and fast friendly wait staff ensure you will be glad you stopped by The Watergrill.

To begin, the atmosphere is elegant and beautiful. It is definitely more of a place for adults than families with young kids, but they do have something for everyone. All of the food we had was of very high quality, and it all tasted delicious. However, service was a bit slow and nothing was mind-blowing. In a city of such diverse food and dining opportunities, this restaurant would not be the first to mind when recommending incredible seafood. (hint: try Son of a Gun on W 3rd Street). Watergrill can be found and enjoyed in a lot of places; it is not a unique hidden gem. If you are looking for a beautiful meal in downtown LA, this is a good choice. If you are looking for a revolutionary meal in Los Angeles, I would maybe try elsewhere. Watergrill is always solid and delivers consistently good meals.
Very good dinner
This place was right across from mine and my wife's hotel so we stopped in one night for dinner. Service was very good and we both enjoyed our meals. I had the swordfish and it was as tender as any swordfish I have ever had. My wife is a lite eater and ordered the crab cake appetizer for her meal and she enjoyed that as well.
